Joan Of Arc Legend
One day wizard named Merlin came down to France and told them. Told them about a maiden who
would one day ______________. This was a legend. A legend that one day came true. A legend that
took place in France 1412. Have you ever heard the name Jeanne D Arc while how about Joan of Arc?
You may not know who she is but let me tell you she was important. Why was she important because
Joan of Arc heard voices, she went into battle, and she was burned alive.
When Joan of Arc was just 13 she started hearing voices and seeing for what she said were from god,
saints, and angels. She grew up in the town of Domremy and was very religious. At first the voices
would tell her to go to church regularly. Later the voices would tell her to go fight the ... Show more

Now she couldn t go and be a woman fighting war. Woman could not fight in the 15th century. She
had to dress as a boy. Joan of Arc went and had many victories a book said she was Holding her
standard high, she rallied the men and was first to place a scaling ladder against the bridge. (Tracy
Christopher, 39). Joan of Arc won she actually did it and After such a miraculous victory, Joan s
reputation spread far and wide among French forces. (History.com staff). Now you think Joan of Arc
would be a hero to France, except France thought otherwise.
When she returned to France they would not let her in. The English captured her and she was
imprisoned. After waiting in Jail she was burned at stake because they through is wrong she dressed
like a boy and for witchcraft. She was 19 and died from smoke filling up in her lungs.
In the end Joan of Arc was later named a saint and she still is today. Joan of Arc was a wonderful and
brave woman who has a big impact on France because she hears voices from Angels, She won many
wars, and was burned at stake.

The Problem Of Plastic Surgery
Valeria Lukyanova, a Romanian young woman had more than a hundred surgeries in order to look like
Barbie. She decided to have a huge number of plastic surgeries, regardless of the price, just to reach
her ideal physical appearance. As shocking as it can be, these examples make people realize that looks
are very important in our society and that plastic surgery is therefore becoming a little too common.
Today a real addiction to plastic surgery might be threatening our world.
Plastic surgery is spreading more and more nowadays due to better knowledge in medicine but also to
the changes in people s attitudes and state of mind. It used to be a way to help people in real need but
is now used for small details people want to change, because their look mostly determines their level
of self esteem. In fact, beauty is taking a lot of importance and so does sexiness . The image of the
perfect human given by the media has been changing the way people see themselves. Plastic surgery
has become more common because it is an easy way to change physical appearance. However, the
number of eating disorders has also increased but for people who can afford it, it is always more
convenient to get an operation.
Plastic surgery should not be as common because it makes people fake in a way. It occurs when
people are obsessed with their looks and will have as many surgeries as they can to be as close to their
perfection as they can be. It can be said that there is an addiction to plastic surgery

Katha Pollitt s Why Boys Don T Play With Dolls
The article I chose to read was the Why Boys Don t Play with Dolls by Katha Pollitt. In the article the
author explains research that suggests boys and girls prefer certain toys. For instance, studies have
shown that a boy will most likely pick a toy car or play sports compared to playing dress up or with a
doll. Also, that girls will play dress up instead of playing with a toy car. IN the reading, Pollitt gives an
example on the theory of why that is, she states Increasingly, we are told that the source of these
robust preferences must lie outside society in prenatal hormonal influences, brain chemistry, genes and
that feminism has reached its natural limits (par. 1). In the quote, Pollitt is questioning how children s
preferences come about, whether it s genetic or if society has an influence. ... Show more content on

In the example, the son is extremely athletic and loves sports, the mother completely supports the son,
even if she has no interest in sports. She supports her son because both her son and husband are
extreme sports fans. So, the mother would never discourage the child no matter how foolish she things
sports are because she loves and will always support both her husband and son manliness. However,
Pollitt brings up a valuable point which states That if their sons wanted to spend the weekend writing
up their diaries, or reading, or baking, they d find it disturbing? Too antisocial? Too lonely? Too gay?
(par. 9). Pollitt informs us about the double standard that can occur in the family, such as if the son

Essay On Cancer Treatment
Cancer Treatment Patients with cancer are in for a long course of treatment. A typical course of
treatment involves chemotherapy, radiation and surgery. After any of these treatments, it will not be
safe for the patient to drive themselves home. This means the patient will need transportation both to
and from the treatment center. During treatment, the cancer patient s immune system is compromised.
They aren t even supposed to consume raw eggs because of the higher than normal risk of getting ill.
This is no time to take the bus or even a cab. They need clean medical transport, not public
transportation. Public transportation is downright dangerous for someone who is very ill, possibly
recently stitched up, and who has an impaired ability ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Taking public transit exposes you to crowds, germs, the possibility of being injured, the possibility of
getting lost and other serious risks during a vulnerable time in your life. Neither of these options
makes sense. If something goes wrong, they can both lead to very serious problems. These serious
problems can add up to much bigger expenses than the cost of medical transportation. The cost of
medical transportation can be though of as a small price to pay to protect yourself from a long list of
risks. It can buy you peace of mind and a better recovery. The value of that cannot be overstated.
When you are having such a serious health event, it makes no sense to cut corners. You need to do a
cost benefit analysis that looks at getting you the best possible outcome for a reasonable price, not
what has the lowest initial sticker price. At a time like this, trying to cut costs in a way that
undermines your health and recovery process is likely to be the most expensive answer in the long
run. The cheapest solution will be the one that helps you recover both well and rapidly, so you can get
back in the game. For a great many people, medical transportation is part of that optimal

Racism And Discrimination On Tv. Is The American Media
Racism and Discrimination on TV Is the American media racist? Watch American television and you
might think so. It s been over fifty years since the civil rights movement and unfortunately American
television, at times, keeps racism and discrimination alive. Some of America s longest running and
most favorite television shows are riddled with negative stereotypes, hidden prejudices, and outright
discrimination. Even worse, is the commercials that are on everyday television that demoralized and
debase a whole race of people. Sadly, these companies and corporations sometimes don t even realize
that there is anything wrong with what they are showing on television. This shows how sad the state of
our race relations are in this country. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The fact that they used an African American kid for this commercial is highly prejudice. Prejudice is
when a negative attitude is felt against an entire group of people (Schaefer 2015). This advertisement
gives that image that all African Americans are drug dealing monsters. This type of imagery has led to
discrimination against African Americans because they are looked at like they are criminals when that
is not the case. Discrimination is when a group of people is denied the same rights and opportunities
because of prejudice (Schaefer 2015). Something that is disturbing about this advertisement and the
group that was behind making it, Partnership for a drug free America, is that they were funded by over
two hundred major American corporations. These types of images that were played on television and
backed by so many large companies show that institutional discrimination is a problem in this nation.
Institutional discrimination is when a group of people are denied opportunities and their rights are
taken away during the normal operations of society. Lastly, that brings me to my last example of
racism in the media and that is the Willie Horton and the revolving door ads. Willie Horton was a
prisoner in the Massachusetts prison system for murder. In 1986, he was released as part of a weekend
furlough program but did not return and a year later he raped a woman and physically

There are two of three radish farms in Ensi county, IN have gone through crop failure. The study of
the crop failure is being experimented on so the reason for the failure can be stated. The investigation
was on how well the radish seeds grew in five different types of water taken from different locations
within a five day period. Site A was the control of the experiment so the data taken on the other sites
could be compared to site A. Sites A, C, and E grew while sites B and D did not grow at all. The salt

Free Will Essay
Many people in the western world hold very dear the idea of independence, that they can think freely,
choose freely, and express themselves freely. This all is connected to the idea of free will that many
believe is what makes us human. Many people cannot, however, define free will. There is always the
feeling that one can do whatever he/she wants. That is probably why this idea is such a pleasing
concept. There is just one serious flaw in the free will concept. People cannot determine everything;
there are some things, even before one is born, that determines who he will be in the future. Since
people do not choose their parents, or the nationality of their family this creates a serious flaw in the
free will concept. Now if people were ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
On another note, the Qur an is often wrongly interpreted as being based on determinism. This is false;
if a life of a Muslim was determined for him/her at birth there would be no point in him/her trying to
find out the nature of his sin, Allah would not have had to send prophets to teach his people the way,
because all their actions would be already determined by them (Gorjian 2010). This suggests that, as
far a religion goes people are free to do as they feel is right. This however does not justify the fact that
governments take away this freedom from their citizens. Governments taking away freedom from
their subjects can be traced back in history, and one the greatest examples for this would be the war of
ideologies known as World War II. Political systems are based on ideas like fascism which helped
Germans in their economic crisis, communism overthrew the Tzars in Russia which gave the
proletariat all the influence they needed, while liberalism promised freedom. This all seems perfect,
however, as it is all well known, there were flaws in each of those systems. Nazis under Hitler were
only nice to a great portion of Germans as they were trying to create the master race. All others: Slavs,
Roma, Jews were hated and discriminated against. In occupied Poland Nazis closed schools, denied
access to education, confiscated automobiles, (Cosby 2010) houses, land and riches.

experimentation on dwarfs, babies, and twins. The brains behind the medical branch was a man who
wanted nothing but to multiply the German race, through twins. Josef Mengele s life wasn t an ideal
life, but one of life and death, knowledge and experimentation, hatred and escape. Mengele s life was
a path led straight to the Nazi party. Mengele was born on March 16, 1911, in Germany. Being the

At her trial during January and February 1984, on a charge of murdering Chelsea McClellan, Genene
Jones was found guilty and sentenced to ninety nine years in prison. Key factors of this diagnosis
include the definition of a personality disorder: a persistent pattern of maladaptive behavior that
causes dysfunction in relationships or at work. NPD is also very common is serial killers. Other
characteristics of this diagnosis include: requiring constant admiration, having an inability or
unwillingness to recognize the needs and feelings of others, and also behaving in an arrogant or
haughty manner. I would treat Genene with psychotherapy (talk therapy). There are currently no
medications specifically used to treat NPD. However, if they have symptoms of depression, anxiety or
other conditions, medications such as antidepressants or anti anxiety drugs may be helpful to the
individual. The End of the Story Genene is now in a Texas prison and is up for parole again in 2018.

Women In The Handmaid s Tale
The display of a dystopian society is distinctively shown in The Handmaid s Tale, by Margaret
Atwood. Featuring the Republic of Gilead, women are categorized by their differing statuses and
readers get an insight into this twisted society through the lenses of the narrator; Offred. Categorized
as a handmaid, Offred s sole purpose in living is to simply and continuously play the role of a child
bearing vessel. That being the case, there is a persistent notion that is relatively brought up by those
leading the Gileadean regime; women have gained more than they have lost. Yet, this is a clearly
distorted idea being that women in this society are excessively restricted from freedom. Women are
restricted to the freedoms that they once had. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Handmaids are no longer able to identify with the name they had lived by throughout their lifetimes.
In a sense, this was also the erasure of their previous past and who they used to be. To hear the names
of others, handmaids learn discrete ways to communicate with one another. We learned to lip
read...watching each other s mouths. In this way, we exchanged names, from bed to bed. Alma. Janine.
Dolores. Moira. June. (4) Ultimately, this exhibits the desperation of women to preserve the aspects of
their lives before the creation of the new society. In a way, it serves as a reminder that they were once
someone and it s a way of reliving their past. Women no longer have the privilege of even choosing
their own name of whom they want to be identify as. From my understanding, women do not have a
choice but to forget their past as it was a taboo, along with their previous name. Freedom was once a
familiar ideal but the Republic of Gilead has normalized the notion in which women are restricted and
watched of their every movement. It is a common move, as noted in history, to resist the education of
the oppressed. Applying this idea to the Gilead society, women were restricted from reading to halt
their need for education. They decided that even the names of shops were too much temptation for us.
Now places are known by their signs alone. (25) This extreme method of suppression reveals the true
intentions of the oppressors. In what way does this protect women? It

Canada s New Laws Regarding Doctor Assisted Suicide
According to the Criminal Code of Canada, physician assisted suicide is illegal in Canada. However,
due to the changing minds of Canadians and their values over a course of time, Canada created new
laws that directed the act of assisted suicide by a physician. However, it is an ongoing debate whether
these laws are problematic or beneficial. Canada s new laws regarding doctor assisted suicide are
effective because patients can die with dignity, there are benefits to the healthcare system and there
will be less emotional turmoil for patients and their families. To begin, patients can die with dignity.
Dying with dignity is the philosophical concept that a terminally ill individual should be allowed to
die naturally and comfortably instead of experiencing a life of deep unconsciousness prolonged by
mechanical support systems. (Death with Dignity) In 1993, Sue Rodriguez, a sufferer of ALS,
believed that the time and manner of her death should not be determined by her illness or by the law.
She expressed that it should be legal for a physician to end her life for her at a time she has chosen.
(Fenton) Rodriguez took her case to the Supreme Court of British Columbia, she argued that Section
241(b) of the Criminal Code, everyone who aids or abets a person in committing suicide commits an
indictable offence, violates her rights in the Charter under Section 7, that everyone has the right to life,
liberty, and security, 12, that everyone has the right not to be subjected to any

Proximity is the way we view things which are close together as a group or look closer than they
actually are. Continuity is taking more of an interest in a straight smooth lines rather than rigid and
rapidly changing lines. Symmetry is when a shape or object is repeated on both sides to make it a
mirror image. We see symmetrical shapes easily than unsymmetrical shapes. Similarity is objects and
shapes placed together as they look similar, where as dissimilar objects are likely to be viewed

Middle School Athletics Staffing Essay
Middle School Athletics Staffing
In the business world, each year is different from the other, same goes for the academic division. It is a
fact that people come and people go for all types of reasons. Change is forever arising, sometimes for
the better or worse. Within the middle school athletics level there are 13 Athletic Directors (AD)
positions and 160 or more coaching positions, dependent on each teams participation. AD s and
coaches are paid employees of the district. The AD s supervise the coaches at their individual school
buildings or act as a sports liaison within their assigned school. The coaches simply coach. Many of
our coaches have experience in the sport they are coaching, but sometimes we need a warm body or
parent/volunteer to coach a team. In the area of Athletics you are always asked to work or volunteer
more than you get paid. In most cases if you put in 40 hours weeks then you are paid for 40 hours. In
athletics you may put in 40 hours and are only compensated 15 hours. The middle school AD position
is part time and pays 10 12 hours per week. So you can imagine the high turnover rate for AD s.
Coaches are paid based on their experience in the sport they are coaching. The coaches is pay is a
percentage of the teacher s contract. It can range from 3 5% of $37,600 and the teacher s contract

Bob Dylan Impact on Society
Bob Dylan: An Impact on American Society in the 1960 s

racism. From this generation spawned some of the greatest musical artists of all time one in particular,
Bob Dylan. Bob Dylan is considered to be the greatest influence on popular culture of all time.
However, Bob Dylan was not born an idol his legacy was a result of his surroundings. Throughout

Bob Dylan, was becoming an increasingly popular musician. Despite Dylan s goal to become a
famous rock n roll star, he soon became known as a folk singer. Most of his influences were from
country, folk, and rhythm and blues. One of his biggest role models was folk musician Woody Guthrie
Bob even adopted Guthrie s Okie accent. That was the tradition of folk music borrowing from other
artists. Dylan
4 borrowed from just about every blues or folk performer he ever saw; the music belonged to no
one. 12 In 1961, Dylan s dreams were becoming a reality he was finally going to become a star.
Columbia Records offered Dylan a contract, and in March of 1962, he released his first album, Bob
Dylan, and his second, The Freewheelin Bob Dylan, in 1963. It was around this time that Bob started
writing his protest songs (also called finger pointing songs sincere expressions of frustration towards
leaders who opposed change13), in response to the beginning of the civil rights movement. There are
several catalysts that led up to the civil rights movement. The integration of major league baseball in
1947 and Truman s proposal to integrate the armed forces were both pawns in starting the movement.
Also, the integration of schools in 1954 was a major event in history; the Supreme Court ruled that

Chaucer s Canterbury Tales: The General Prologue portrays the newly formed social division in
Medieval England by having people from the noble, gentry, church, and working social groups come
together on a journey to the Canterbury Chapel. A modern day American version of this poem would
also include a diverse group of people. The nobility in The Canterbury Tales is represented by the
knight, which Chaucer describes as loving, trouthe and honour, freedom and curteisye (46). Since the
knight is a worthy defender and protector of the people, the modern day equivalent would be our

During the fourteenth century, the control of the church weakened, and the church officials were no
longer seen as nobility. Despite being poor, the parson in The Canterbury Tales displayed a
hardworking and caring demeanor. Chaucer further explains the parson s character by mentioning, that
first he wroughte, and afterward he taught (499). The parson s involvement in society can be mirrored
by not only modern day preachers and church leaders, but by teachers as well. Teachers take the
knowledge from their education and convey this wisdom onto students, much like the parson. The
qualities of today s working class can be seen through Chaucer s depiction of the plowman. Indicating
the importance and humility of the plowman s work, Chaucer establishes his significance in society.
Our farmers, factory workers, and construction workers show the same persistent work ethic as the
plowman, which exemplifies that they are the foundation of the American society. Where class and
social status does not determine acceptability, the Canterbury Chapel is common ground for all the
pilgrims to pray and make what they want out of the experience. A

Symbols In Forrest Gump
Traversing Through the Unknown
People tend to find meaning in all aspects of life, and they rely and examine symbols to gain further

helps Forrest and his general outlook on life. Through all these obstacles, he is an all star football,

Through many symbols the audience is exposed to the realities of life and we are left to interpret the
underlying meaning and power behind such objects and concepts. Robert Zemeckis, makes us ponder
about life throughout the film, and most importantly, through objects such as a box of chocolates. The
box of chocolates represents the uncertainty of life and how we must take risks, that we must
experiment with life, more so, life is embodied through the feather. The concept of destiny and the
cycle of life is explored upon and portrayed through the feather. Adversity and overcoming is a
constant theme in the film and is depicted through running, that while we can sometimes run away
from our problems we must also take action. Forrest Gump can teach us a lot about life, but we must

The Origin Of The Word Dna And The Science World Is Well...
Introduction The acronym DNA in the science world is well known. Many would even be able to say
what it stands for: Deoxyribonucleic Acid . What is not as well known is who discovered DNA and
what went on behind the scenes. Early life and Education Born in London on July 25, 1920 to a well
known Jewish family, Rosalind Franklin was noted for her cleverness and outspokenness. She was
sent to St Paul s Girls School which was known for its strict and demanding academics, which
included amongst its subjects, physics and chemistry. School friends later recalled that she was best in
science, best at maths, best in everything. http://www.livescience.com/39804 rosalind franklin.html
Rosalind s father wanted her to go into the line of social work, but at age fifteen, she had decided to
become a scientist. In 1938, aged 18, she graduated from Newnham College at Cambridge. Career
leading up to major discovery Rosalind s first job (1938) was with the British Coal Utilisation
Research Association. Her work there contributed to the war effort as she did investigations into the
structures as well as uses of graphite and coal. Her discoveries were used to develop gas masks which
helped in the safety of Britain s soldiers. In return for her efforts in this line of study, Cambridge
University in 1945 conferred on her a Ph.D. in Physical Chemistry. Rosalind next worked in Paris at
the Laboratoire Central with Jacques Merling honing in on the science of X ray

Specific Word Analysis
Specific words can drastically change someone else s perspective. While some words are heard and
spread around, you don t know its true meaning until it is directed at you.
For me, the word that means so much to me is rejection . It was never really spoken about when I was
young, but it didn t mean I knew what it meant. I constantly felt rejected, whether it was at school or
in society itself. It took control of my childhood; I always kept my mouth shut along with my ideas in
my head. I believed that as soon as I opened my mouth, it would lead me into instant rejection. My
feelings towards this word was highly unhealthy.
I begun to feel this way when I signed up for kindergarten here in the United States. I didn t know any
english at all, which made it difficult for me to understand my teachers and classmates. I felt alienated,

He was always busy working or hanging out with his new girlfriend. When I asked for help on my

Overall, my childhood was a disaster. Rejection defined my life as it was,and it was terrible. It
continued being like this, until I finally opened up to my mother when I was 7. Instead of yelling at
me, she handled me with calm. She made me perceive things differently.
I won t go much into detail about what my mother s speech was about. It was your regular, the world
is a cruel place kind of pep talk. By any means, it still affected me, because I was feeling the warmth
of my mother s words. As cliché as that sounds, it is the truth.
Things started to get better for me. I somewhat let go of the idea of rejection and went on with my life.
I was rejected at first for not knowing any english at all, but as the years went by, I was soon praised
for reading at a high level. My teachers were very proud of me, whereas my classmates were very

Question 1. Consider two individuals who derive utility from leisure and food (and no other goods).
Both individuals have 100 hours of time to divide between leisure and work (labour), and no other
form of income. Further, both individuals receive the same money wage (and face the same money
price for food). Using income and substitution effects, explain why we might see one individual
respond to an increase in the wage rate by increasing their supply of labour, while the other individual
might decrease their labour supply. Question 2. Consider an individual who derives utility from leisure

Compare And Contrast Pearson And John Diefenbaker
Prime Ministers of Change: Lester Pearson vs John Diefenbaker
Gandhi once said, We must be the change we wish to see in the world. Lester Pearson and John
Diefenbaker are two of countless individuals who have put this advice to action. These two influential
Prime Ministers have made multiple important changes to Canada and the world. Despite having
different goals and priorities, both Prime Ministers have improved the lives of many and are
considered important in Canadian history. Though John Diefenbaker has made numerous contributions
that benefited the country, Lester Pearson made extensive and constructive changes that not only
bettered Canada, but that also shaped our future and our identity, making him the more significant
Prime Minister. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One of Pearson s goal was to strengthen relationships between French and English Canadians. On
April 21 1963 when Quebec separatists placed a bomb in a Canadian army recruiting office killing a
janitor, Pearson called for a royal commission to investigate bilingualism and biculturalism in Canada.
From the recommendations made during the royal commission, Pearson created the Official
Languages Act, which states that federal services such as federal courts and government ministries,
must be offered in both English and French. This makes him significant, because bilingualism in
Canada still exists today and is still an important part of our culture. On the other hand, Diefenbaker s
Bill of Rights got replaced in 1984, and none of his contributions reflect Canada s culture or identity
the way Pearson s does. Though Canada is often regarded as the United States little brother , one thing
that differentiates Canada from the US is their free health care system. Medicare, Canada s universal
health insurance, is only one of the changes Pearson introduced to Canada s welfare state. Pearson
also established the Canada Pension Plan in 1966 to support retired citizens, as well as the Canada
Assistance Plan which funded welfare programs for the disabled and injured. At the time, Canada had
a strong economy, making additions such as the Canada Student Loans Program and increased funding
for university research possible. Not only did

Critique of Title IX
What if you were told that a law was made to remove discrimination of sexes in sports and education,
or that man and woman are both given equal opportunities as far as an athletic or educational career?
Would you then agree or disagree with the ideology that both sexes are still treated different even
though this law was created and the opportunities that were promised aren t precisely
indistinguishable? Title IX does not accurately protect sexual discrimination; it doesn t give equal
opportunities, and is unjust as far as benefits between male and female sports. Although this law
allows men and women to participate in the same sports and educational fields it does not efficiently
take care of those who feel sexes should be separate ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In order to comply with Title IX the schools had to effectuate with what s called proportionality. (CBS
news) Proportionality states that the portion of the school that is female must also be the portion of
athletes that is female. Therefore setting a balance between the schools ratio and the athletic ratios and
also enforcing Title IX. The problem that balancing caused was that the school had to add more
women sports which cost more money to the school, or choose to cancel some of the schools male
sports. Subsequently, the schools had to do what was best for the school and to avoid going into debt
for sports the male sports had to be put on the burner. Many schools cut male wrestling, track and
field, tennis, and gymnastics teams instead of adding women sports. Jason Lewis a gymnasts whose
team was eliminated said that the number of men s teams are dwindling because colleges are dropping
what are called the minor men s sports, the ones that don t draw crowds or make money, and investing
more and more in just one sport football. The Fact that just twenty three years ago, there was 107 men
s gymnastics teams in this nation, now there are only 20 teams left just so happens to prove Lewis s
statement to be true.(CBS news) Finally, Title IX says that equal benefits should be given to both men
and women in the sports and education industries, but there are people who disagree with this
statement. Title IX was not made for the intent of giving women a beneficial

Gratification And How It Is Learned
In the textbook the authors talk about delay of gratification and how it is learned. The authors refer to
delay of gratification as controlling impulsive reactions for long term benefits (Cervone Pervin, 2013).
They relate delay of gratification to self control due to the fact that delaying gratification generally
means putting off something enjoyable in the present in order to get something even better in the
future (Cervone Pervin, 2013). For example, not going to your friend s house tonight so that you can
practice the speech you have tomorrow in your English class so you can get a better grade. The
textbook also posits that there are two components to delays of gratification. The first component is
the impulsive desire to get a reward, and the second component is the cognitive tactics that people use
to avoid acting on that impulse (Cervone Pervin, 2013). Research in the area of social cognitive theory
even shows that children can learn to withstand greater delays of gratification when they witness
models displaying such delay behavior (Cervone Pervin, 2013). The textbook also talks about self
efficacy, which was a component in this particular study. Self efficacy can be defined as an individual
s perceptions about their own capabilities for performing some act in the future (Cervone Pervin,
2013). It has been found that self efficacy perceptions impact various types of behavior that are
essential for human achievement (Cervone Pervin, 2013). Self efficacy

Economic Benefits Of Wolf Packs
In the first scenario wolf pack are able to hunt reindeers easily, because there are less wolf packs
competing for a limited number of resources. This would mean that the wolf pack would use less
energy in hunting by using ambush tactics that require more time and are usually less effective than
the traditional hunting methods, but it would offset this with an economic gain in terms of calories.
Another reason might be just the fact that prey is more readily available and wolves have the
opportunity to hunt more. Both scenarios produce an economic benefit for the wolves because they are
going to acquire more calories than they spent. The described situation is not a perfect competition.
However, as previously mentioned other wolf packs can enter the valley without any restriction and
they are going to seize this arbitrage opportunity until there is no economic profit and the cost of
hunting equals its benefits. The behavior of the wolf packs will be the same in the perfect competition
market and there will be no readjustment. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There are too much wolf packs and some of them are unable to prey on reindeers on a regular basis.
On a general level this would mean that the costs of hunting ( producing ) are higher than equilibrium
price (calories gained). As a result some firms are going to exit the market (Again, there are no
barriers to entry/exit). The wolf packs will be underfed and some will either die out of hunger or
decide to leave the valley. This will decrease the number of sellers, hence the supply and drive the
equilibrium price up only to the point at which all wolf packs in the valley are able to gather enough
calories to maintain

Research Paper On Russo-Japanese War
Parker Zellem International Relations: Psci 2223 Kim lee Tuxhorn Russo Japanese War If there is one
war that truly set an example of what the world was to experience in the 20th century, that would have
to be the Russo Japanese War. The war, while simply between two nations, had far reaching
consequences for both nations involved. While Russia was faced with large internal unrest the war
became a temporary distraction, which returned at a much heightened level following the war. Japan
on the other hand, desired to be an Asian imperial power, and was increasingly making advances onto
the mainland seeking control over Manchuria and the Korean Peninsula, bringing direct conflict with
Russia who bordered those territories. With both nations fighting for such different reasons no single
political theory can explain why the war broke out. The war is often looked at and used to explain
many of the events that occurred in the 20th century. The Russian defeat by the Japanese increased

The most promising of proposals for a diplomatic resolution would have been Russia s recognition of
Japanese control over Korea, and Japanese recognition of Russia s control over Manchuria. Both
nations would ve effectively split the territory the were vying for, satisfying Japanese imperialist goals
and presenting Nicholas II in good light as a diplomat able to peacefully expand the territory of his
empire. Diplomacy however wasn t achieved and history took a very different turn from what could
have happened. That change resulted in two nations becoming focal points that lasted throughout the
century, with both nations being major players in the World Wars. Each nation was traveling on

Top manufacturers in advanced countries normally have high environmental awareness and gadget
practical environmental management observes such as green supply chain management (GSCM). Still,
it is uncertain if lesser manufacturers in established coun tries are more practical than all

To decrease pollution, advanced countries, monitored by unindustrialized countries, have enacted
rules to control environmental effects
Over the whole life series of products. Classic examples are two European Union advices, namely, the
Re strictions of Hazardous Substances (RoHS) from the sellers side, and the Excess Electrical and
Electronic Equipment (WEEE) for end of life products. Also these specific principles, further general
rules such as Chinese circular economy promotion laws have been indorsed (Geng and Doberstein,
2008). At the same time, additional general programs such as eco industrial park enterprises have been
implemented in both developed countries (Conticelli and Tondelli, 2013, Romero and Ruiz, 2013) and
developing countries (Zhu et al., 2010a). All these regulations and plans mostly target manufacturers,
which are energy intensive and old fashioned polluters. As a outcome, manufacturers in both
industrialized countries and unindustrialized countries have struggled to implement innovative
conservational management practices to understand energy saving and smog reduction.
Factor Analysis
An experimental factor analysis (EFA) is employed to identify the theoretical dimensions (factors) of

The Captivity Of Orcas Within Institutions Like Seaworld...
I. Overview of the Issue The topic at hand is the captivity of orcas in institutions like SeaWorld. This
issue has been popularized recently because of the documentary, Blackfish, which sets out to build
opposition to whale captivity. Orca captivity involves many stakeholders, including trainers, business
executives, park visitors, and, of course, the orcas themselves. The ethics and dangers behind orca
captivity are what make this topic controversial, especially in light of trainer deaths, specifically that
of Dawn Brancheau, which is addressed in Blackfish and various other sources on the issue. These
scandals also prompted the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) to begin a legal
battle with SeaWorld over orca captivity, a case that might change this institution permanently. Due to
these current events, as well as the basic nature of the issue which involves a mesmerizing animal and
its proposed right to freedom, the topic of orca captivity is one that captivates and demands debate. II.
Specific Guiding Question I decided to research the question Should orcas be kept in captivity?
Researching orca captivity in depth interested me, personally, because I consider myself a lover of
animals and, being spurred by watching the previously mentioned documentary, I came to question
whether orcas should be in captivity, at all. Ultimately, the case against orca captivity far outweighed
the institution s benefits, prompting me to

The Best Selling Garment Of All Time
Marked the best selling garment of all time , denim has been a key participant in the evolution of
popular culture (Weber 2006). Originally making its public debut appearance within the mining
sectors in the mid 1800s, denim has become a product of globalization, as it gained both attention and
wear by billions (Foreman 2015). As various styles have evolved from denim, jeans have deemed
consistency throughout popular culture movements, withstanding the test of time. Not only has denim
broken barriers of age, class, and race, but the way in which jeans have been altered is a direct product
of popular culture, carried out via youth subcultures.
Why study something as acquisitive as denim when examining theories of popular culture, particularly
when trends come and go? British media theorist and sociologist Dick Hebdige is distinguished for his
popular culture studies, as he is labeled as the primary popular culture reference maker. His research
via sociological analysis has paved the way for proceeding theorists to further explore the complexity
of popular culture movements. Denim, however, is unique in the sense that the evolution of this single
garment has disrupted orthodox societal structures not only in its country of origin, but also globally.
Its invention and circulation epitomize the exchange and intersection of cultural studies, allure a wide
audience, and exemplify both political and economic societal shifts.
In order to understand how jeans have gained status as

  • 2. Joan Of Arc Legend One day wizard named Merlin came down to France and told them. Told them about a maiden who would one day ______________. This was a legend. A legend that one day came true. A legend that took place in France 1412. Have you ever heard the name Jeanne D Arc while how about Joan of Arc? You may not know who she is but let me tell you she was important. Why was she important because Joan of Arc heard voices, she went into battle, and she was burned alive. When Joan of Arc was just 13 she started hearing voices and seeing for what she said were from god, saints, and angels. She grew up in the town of Domremy and was very religious. At first the voices would tell her to go to church regularly. Later the voices would tell her to go fight the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Joan of Arc went and had many victories a book said she was Holding her standard high, she rallied the men and was first to place a scaling ladder against the bridge. (Tracy Christopher, 39). Joan of Arc won she actually did it and After such a miraculous victory, Joan s reputation spread far and wide among French forces. (History.com staff). • 3. The Problem Of Plastic Surgery Valeria Lukyanova, a Romanian young woman had more than a hundred surgeries in order to look like Barbie. She decided to have a huge number of plastic surgeries, regardless of the price, just to reach her ideal physical appearance. As shocking as it can be, these examples make people realize that looks are very important in our society and that plastic surgery is therefore becoming a little too common. Today a real addiction to plastic surgery might be threatening our world. Plastic surgery is spreading more and more nowadays due to better knowledge in medicine but also to the changes in people s attitudes and state of mind. It used to be a way to help people in real need but is now used for small details people want to change, because their look mostly determines their level of self esteem. In fact, beauty is taking a lot of importance and so does sexiness . The image of the perfect human given by the media has been changing the way people see themselves. Plastic surgery has become more common because it is an easy way to change physical appearance. However, the number of eating disorders has also increased but for people who can afford it, it is always more convenient to get an operation. Plastic surgery should not be as common because it makes people fake in a way. It occurs when people are obsessed with their looks and will have as many surgeries as they can to be as close to their perfection as they can be. It can be said that there is an addiction to plastic surgery ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Katha Pollitt s Why Boys Don T Play With Dolls The article I chose to read was the Why Boys Don t Play with Dolls by Katha Pollitt. In the article the author explains research that suggests boys and girls prefer certain toys. For instance, studies have shown that a boy will most likely pick a toy car or play sports compared to playing dress up or with a doll. Also, that girls will play dress up instead of playing with a toy car. IN the reading, Pollitt gives an example on the theory of why that is, she states Increasingly, we are told that the source of these robust preferences must lie outside society in prenatal hormonal influences, brain chemistry, genes and that feminism has reached its natural limits (par. 1). In the quote, Pollitt is questioning how children s preferences come about, whether it s genetic or if society has an influence. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the example, the son is extremely athletic and loves sports, the mother completely supports the son, even if she has no interest in sports. She supports her son because both her son and husband are extreme sports fans. So, the mother would never discourage the child no matter how foolish she things sports are because she loves and will always support both her husband and son manliness. However, Pollitt brings up a valuable point which states That if their sons wanted to spend the weekend writing up their diaries, or reading, or baking, they d find it disturbing? Too antisocial? Too lonely? Too gay? (par. 9). Pollitt informs us about the double standard that can occur in the family, such as if the son liked to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Essay On Cancer Treatment Cancer Treatment Patients with cancer are in for a long course of treatment. A typical course of treatment involves chemotherapy, radiation and surgery. After any of these treatments, it will not be safe for the patient to drive themselves home. This means the patient will need transportation both to and from the treatment center. During treatment, the cancer patient s immune system is compromised. They aren t even supposed to consume raw eggs because of the higher than normal risk of getting ill. This is no time to take the bus or even a cab. They need clean medical transport, not public transportation. Public transportation is downright dangerous for someone who is very ill, possibly recently stitched up, and who has an impaired ability ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Taking public transit exposes you to crowds, germs, the possibility of being injured, the possibility of getting lost and other serious risks during a vulnerable time in your life. Neither of these options makes sense. If something goes wrong, they can both lead to very serious problems. These serious problems can add up to much bigger expenses than the cost of medical transportation. The cost of medical transportation can be though of as a small price to pay to protect yourself from a long list of risks. It can buy you peace of mind and a better recovery. The value of that cannot be overstated. When you are having such a serious health event, it makes no sense to cut corners. You need to do a cost benefit analysis that looks at getting you the best possible outcome for a reasonable price, not what has the lowest initial sticker price. At a time like this, trying to cut costs in a way that undermines your health and recovery process is likely to be the most expensive answer in the long run. The cheapest solution will be the one that helps you recover both well and rapidly, so you can get back in the game. For a great many people, medical transportation is part of that optimal ... • 6. Racism And Discrimination On Tv. Is The American Media Racism and Discrimination on TV Is the American media racist? Watch American television and you might think so. It s been over fifty years since the civil rights movement and unfortunately American television, at times, keeps racism and discrimination alive. Some of America s longest running and most favorite television shows are riddled with negative stereotypes, hidden prejudices, and outright discrimination. Even worse, is the commercials that are on everyday television that demoralized and debase a whole race of people. Sadly, these companies and corporations sometimes don t even realize that there is anything wrong with what they are showing on television. This shows how sad the state of our race relations are in this country. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The fact that they used an African American kid for this commercial is highly prejudice. Prejudice is when a negative attitude is felt against an entire group of people (Schaefer 2015). This advertisement gives that image that all African Americans are drug dealing monsters. This type of imagery has led to discrimination against African Americans because they are looked at like they are criminals when that is not the case. Discrimination is when a group of people is denied the same rights and opportunities because of prejudice (Schaefer 2015). Something that is disturbing about this advertisement and the group that was behind making it, Partnership for a drug free America, is that they were funded by over two hundred major American corporations. These types of images that were played on television and backed by so many large companies show that institutional discrimination is a problem in this nation. Institutional discrimination is when a group of people are denied opportunities and their rights are taken away during the normal operations of society. Lastly, that brings me to my last example of racism in the media and that is the Willie Horton and the revolving door ads. Willie Horton was a prisoner in the Massachusetts prison system for murder. In 1986, he was released as part of a weekend furlough program but did not return and a year later he raped a woman and physically ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 8. Free Will Essay Many people in the western world hold very dear the idea of independence, that they can think freely, choose freely, and express themselves freely. This all is connected to the idea of free will that many believe is what makes us human. Many people cannot, however, define free will. There is always the feeling that one can do whatever he/she wants. That is probably why this idea is such a pleasing concept. There is just one serious flaw in the free will concept. People cannot determine everything; there are some things, even before one is born, that determines who he will be in the future. Since people do not choose their parents, or the nationality of their family this creates a serious flaw in the free will concept. Now if people were ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... On another note, the Qur an is often wrongly interpreted as being based on determinism. This is false; if a life of a Muslim was determined for him/her at birth there would be no point in him/her trying to find out the nature of his sin, Allah would not have had to send prophets to teach his people the way, because all their actions would be already determined by them (Gorjian 2010). This suggests that, as far a religion goes people are free to do as they feel is right. This however does not justify the fact that governments take away this freedom from their citizens. Governments taking away freedom from their subjects can be traced back in history, and one the greatest examples for this would be the war of ideologies known as World War II. Political systems are based on ideas like fascism which helped Germans in their economic crisis, communism overthrew the Tzars in Russia which gave the proletariat all the influence they needed, while liberalism promised freedom. This all seems perfect, however, as it is all well known, there were flaws in each of those systems. Nazis under Hitler were only nice to a great portion of Germans as they were trying to create the master race. All others: Slavs, Roma, Jews were hated and discriminated against. In occupied Poland Nazis closed schools, denied access to education, confiscated automobiles, (Cosby 2010) houses, land and riches. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Schutzstaffel, the Nazi German military, doctors found that they could allow unusual people into medical camps. Allowing the doctors to do experimentation on dwarfs, babies, and twins. The brains behind the medical branch was a man who wanted nothing but to multiply the German race, through twins. Josef Mengele s life wasn t an ideal life, but one of life and death, knowledge and experimentation, hatred and escape. Mengele s life was a path led straight to the Nazi party. Josef Mengele was then given the name Helmut Greggor by the Red Cross program to let Germans get away from their past lives. (Wiedemann, E. 2004.) Mengele was not the typical human. • 11. Women In The Handmaid s Tale The display of a dystopian society is distinctively shown in The Handmaid s Tale, by Margaret Atwood. Featuring the Republic of Gilead, women are categorized by their differing statuses and readers get an insight into this twisted society through the lenses of the narrator; Offred. Categorized as a handmaid, Offred s sole purpose in living is to simply and continuously play the role of a child bearing vessel. That being the case, there is a persistent notion that is relatively brought up by those leading the Gileadean regime; women have gained more than they have lost. Yet, this is a clearly distorted idea being that women in this society are excessively restricted from freedom. Women are restricted to the freedoms that they once had. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Handmaids are no longer able to identify with the name they had lived by throughout their lifetimes. In a sense, this was also the erasure of their previous past and who they used to be. To hear the names of others, handmaids learn discrete ways to communicate with one another. We learned to lip read...watching each other s mouths. In this way, we exchanged names, from bed to bed. Alma. Janine. Dolores. Moira. June. (4) Ultimately, this exhibits the desperation of women to preserve the aspects of their lives before the creation of the new society. In a way, it serves as a reminder that they were once someone and it s a way of reliving their past. Women no longer have the privilege of even choosing their own name of whom they want to be identify as. From my understanding, women do not have a choice but to forget their past as it was a taboo, along with their previous name. Freedom was once a familiar ideal but the Republic of Gilead has normalized the notion in which women are restricted and watched of their every movement. It is a common move, as noted in history, to resist the education of the oppressed. Applying this idea to the Gilead society, women were restricted from reading to halt their need for education. They decided that even the names of shops were too much temptation for us. Now places are known by their signs alone. However, due to the changing minds of Canadians and their values over a course of time, Canada created new laws that directed the act of assisted suicide by a physician. However, it is an ongoing debate whether these laws are problematic or beneficial. Canada s new laws regarding doctor assisted suicide are effective because patients can die with dignity, there are benefits to the healthcare system and there will be less emotional turmoil for patients and their families. To begin, patients can die with dignity. Dying with dignity is the philosophical concept that a terminally ill individual should be allowed to die naturally and comfortably instead of experiencing a life of deep unconsciousness prolonged by mechanical support systems. (Death with Dignity) In 1993, Sue Rodriguez, a sufferer of ALS, believed that the time and manner of her death should not be determined by her illness or by the law. She expressed that it should be legal for a physician to end her life for her at a time she has chosen. (Fenton) Rodriguez took her case to the Supreme Court of British Columbia, she argued that Section 241(b) of the Criminal Code, everyone who aids or abets a person in committing suicide commits an indictable offence, violates her rights in the Charter under Section 7, that everyone has the right to life, liberty, and security, 12, that everyone has the right not to be subjected to any ... A modern day American version of this poem would also include a diverse group of people. The nobility in The Canterbury Tales is represented by the knight, which Chaucer describes as loving, trouthe and honour, freedom and curteisye (46). The parson s involvement in society can be mirrored by not only modern day preachers and church leaders, but by teachers as well. The authors refer to delay of gratification as controlling impulsive reactions for long term benefits (Cervone Pervin, 2013). They relate delay of gratification to self control due to the fact that delaying gratification generally means putting off something enjoyable in the present in order to get something even better in the future (Cervone Pervin, 2013). For example, not going to your friend s house tonight so that you can practice the speech you have tomorrow in your English class so you can get a better grade. The first component is the impulsive desire to get a reward, and the second component is the cognitive tactics that people use to avoid acting on that impulse (Cervone Pervin, 2013). Research in the area of social cognitive theory even shows that children can learn to withstand greater delays of gratification when they witness models displaying such delay behavior (Cervone Pervin, 2013). This would mean that the wolf pack would use less energy in hunting by using ambush tactics that require more time and are usually less effective than the traditional hunting methods, but it would offset this with an economic gain in terms of calories. Another reason might be just the fact that prey is more readily available and wolves have the opportunity to hunt more. Both scenarios produce an economic benefit for the wolves because they are going to acquire more calories than they spent. The described situation is not a perfect competition. However, as previously mentioned other wolf packs can enter the valley without any restriction and they are going to seize this arbitrage opportunity until there is no economic profit and the cost of hunting equals its benefits. This issue has been popularized recently because of the documentary, Blackfish, which sets out to build opposition to whale captivity. Orca captivity involves many stakeholders, including trainers, business executives, park visitors, and, of course, the orcas themselves. These scandals also prompted the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) to begin a legal battle with SeaWorld over orca captivity, a case that might change this institution permanently. Ultimately, the case against orca captivity far outweighed the institution s benefits, prompting me to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
