Postpartum Hemorrhage
Postpartum Hemorrhage
Introduction
Postpartum hemorrhage (PPH) is a significantly life threatening complication that can occur after both
vaginal and caesarean births (Ricci Kyle, 2009). Simpson and Creehan (2008) define PPH as the
amount of blood loss after vaginal birth, usually more than 500mL, or after a caesarean birth, normally
more than 1000mL. However, the definition is arbitrary, attributed to the fact that loss of blood during
birth is intuitive and widely inaccurate (Ricci Kyle, 2009). In line with this, studies have suggested
that health care providers consistently underestimate actual blood loss, thus, an objective definition of
PPH would be any amount of bleeding that exposes a mother in hemodynamic jeopardy (Ricci ...

The sign and symptoms of PPH include; the apparent excessive bleeding, hematocrit reduction of the
number of red blood cells, reduced blood pressure, development of symptoms of shock and anaemia,
and severe pain and swelling of tissues and muscles of the vagina, vulva, pelvic and perineum
(Simpson Creehan, 2008). Besides, Ricci Kyle (2009) avow that there are different factors that place a
mother at risk for PPH, and they comprise; prolonged first, second or third stage of labour, previous
history of PPH, foetal macrosomia, uterine infection, arrest of descent and multiple gestation. Other
risk factors may include; mediolateral episiotomy, coagulation abnormalities, maternal hypertension,
maternal exhaustion, malnutrition or anaemia, preeclampsia, precipitous birth, polyhydramnios and
previous placenta previa (Ricci Kyle, 2009).
Diagnosis and Assessment
The principal mode of diagnosis is a differential diagnosis, and it includes a plethora of facets;
bleeding from implantation site, which may be due to uterine atony, with predisposing factors such as
infections, and retained placenta or abnormal placentation (Sheiner, 2011). Coagulation disorders and
trauma are also essential facets considered during diagnosis (Sheiner, 2011). Conventionally, there are
different methods used for the estimation of blood loss during diagnosis, and they are majorly
classified as clinical and quantitative methods (Ricci Kyle, 2009). Clinical method remains the
primary means to

Decision Making On Black Carbon Mitigation
Decision Making on Black Carbon Mitigation
Introduction
There have been myriad of findings over the past couple of years suggesting that climate change may
be happening far faster than we originally anticipated. Climate change has the potential to trigger
abrupt transitions such as the release of carbon from thawing permafrost, ocean acidification, sea level
rise, and biodiversity loss. The world has warmed by about 1.5°F, and by 2100 it is projected to rise
another 2 to 11.5°F (Karl et al., 2009). Scientists conclude that greenhouse gases (GHG) from
anthropogenic sources are the most significant driver of observed climate change (IPCC 2013). GHG
have the property of absorbing the infrared radiation given off by the Earth and re emitting ... Show

BC has a short atmospheric residence time of days to weeks, while long‐lived GHGs can persist in the
atmosphere for centuries. Therefore, reductions in GHG emissions will take longer to influence
atmospheric concentrations and will have less impact on climate on a short timescale, whereas
reductions in current BC emissions are immediate (Bice et al., 2009). Apart from that, some scientists
(Shindell Faluvegi 2009, Ramanathan Feng 2009, Quinn et al. 2008, Jacobson 2010) attribute up to
50% of arctic ice melting to BC emissions, therefore its emissions reductions can substantially
decrease the rate at which arctic ice is melting. Thus, initiatives focused on lowering BC will help
offset the impact of decades of GHG emissions and give efforts to reduce carbon dioxide (CO2)
emissions time to get off the ground. It s worth mentioning that BC also has adverse effect on human
health, such as premature mortality, cardiovascular and respiratory diseases, and development of
chronic respiratory disease, so targeting BC emissions will be beneficial from the public health
standpoint (EPA 2011).
Bringing black carbon into climate strategy offers a complementary route to act on climate change, but
the scientific understanding of black carbon climate effects isn t fully complete to support this
proposition. On the one hand, there s a group of scientists who conclude that BC is one of the most
important human emission in terms of its climate forcing in current atmosphere, as it

Understanding Colorado s DMV System Tips for Denver Residents
Few mundane tasks strike fear and loathing into one s heart like the need to visit the Colorado
Department of Motor Vehicles. Long lines, limited locations, staffing shortages, and a convoluted
system that requires multiple visits to multiple offices can make putting off a visit to the DMV seem
like a very good idea.
Unfortunately, driving an improperly registered vehicle or without a valid driving license in Colorado
can subject you to hefty fines and penalties. So getting to the DMV to register or renew your license

Jesse Owens Biography
At the 1939 Big Ten Championships, the Buckeye Bullet, as he was called , overcame a sever tailbone
injury and tied a world record in the 100 yard dash and set a long jump record of 26 8 ¼ that would
stand for 25 years. Owens also set new world marks in the 220 yard dash and in the 220 yard low
hurdles. American track and field athlete Jesse Owens won 4 gold medals at the 1936 Berlin Olympic
Games. The dormitory used by Jesse during the Olympics has been fully restored into a living

a horse, but what was I to do? I had 4 gold medals , but you can t eat 4 gold medals. Jesse ran a dry
cleaning business and worked as a gas station attendant to earn a living ; he eventually filed for

The Case Of Salron V. Salomon Co Ltd.
PART A
The issue is whether Mr Kenneth Lay is liable to contribute to the company s debts or not.
Mr Lay is a separate legal entity under s.16 (2) Companies Act 2006. This is similar to the case of
Salomon v Salomon Co Ltd (1897) where Mr Salomon was held to be a separate legal identity from
the company. However, according to company law there are exceptions in which the court is willing to
lift the corporate veil. The court will lift the corporate veil where certain circumstances occur such as
fraud, improper or wrongful acts.
Mr Lay gambled away all of the company s assets and reserves which is a wrongdoing under s.361
Insolvency Act 1986. He knew that there was no reasonable prospect of avoiding insolvency as the
company was bankrupt and failed to minimise the potential loss to the company s creditors. Therefore,
s.214 (2) IA 1986 applies in this case and the court may declare that Mr Lay is to be liable to
contribute to the company s debts as this is a wrongful trading under s.214 IA 1986. This is similar to
the case of Brooks v Armstrong (2015) where the three principle conditions for wrongful trading were
outlined. Furthermore, he carried on business affairs with no intent to pay the company s debts and for
fraudulent purposes. This is an offence under s.993 CA 2006 and s.213 IA 1986. This is similar to the
case of Contex Drouzhbu Ltd v Wisemen And Another Ca (2007) where the representation was made
fraudulently as the director knew the company was insolvent and

A Perfect Day For Bananafish Summary
A Perfect Day for Bananafish, a short story by J. D. Salinger, was written in 1948, a harsh time for
Americans; men were back in their homes, the women were able to see their husbands again, and the
VA s were full. Only, the war hadn t just ended. It had ended 3 years earlier. This was still too early for
many men returning from the war. These men still had such terrible, mostly untreated, PTSD, that the
VA hospitals released them before they were ready to return to the general population. This is what the
story addresses; this is what Salinger was trying to show to all Americans. This isn t just any story;
this is actually an anti war propaganda showing how PTS and PTSD negatively affect veterans, the
lack of support from the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), and the misunderstanding of the
civilian population. It shows the terrible effect of war on both veterans and their loved ones. It shows
what happens when our government doesn t show appreciation to the defenders of our freedoms.

After returning home, many veterans, even if they have not been diagnosed with PTSD, have
nightmares of the war. They may wake up screaming in the middle of the night, unable to go back to
sleep. This may go on for years if untreated; in some cases, it never goes away, yet they continue to
stay undiagnosed. In many cases, civilians will set off fireworks, often in celebration, that will trigger
certain memories or flashbacks of their time in combat. Some brave veterans may choose to complain
about the fireworks, but most people will ignore their requests to stop the fireworks simply because
the don t truly understand what veterans experience. This is the thing that upsets veterans the most; an

Verbal Mediums And Music And Song Provide A Holistic...
In language and literature, verbal mediums such as music and song provide a holistic reflection of the
culture of a given community. Songs are products and practices that are able to shed light on the
philosophical, political, socio cultural norms, and perspectives of a particular society.1 Thus, these
products shape the worldview of a cultural group. Within patriarchal subcultures, such as fraternities,
song lyrics reflect socially constructed dominant masculinities that members are encouraged to adopt
and engage in. From Rugby Road to Vinegar Hill, a drinking song made prominent by U.Va s Glee
Club in the late 1940 s, captures the socially constructed masculinities portrayed in leisure alcohol use
and the cultural masculine preferences of the members. Music and song are often used as an
instrument to influence and amplify the hidden cultural values at the associated audience. Hence,
preferred elements of masculinity such as heavy drinking, comradery and non relational sexual
encounters with women in the fraternal society are reinforced.2 From Rugby Road to Vinegar Hill
emphasizes how the expectations of hyper masculinity are facilitated in the fraternity culture and how
gender violence in particular, sexual assault, is promoted and perpetuated in association with alcohol
while affirming a masculine mentality of power and privilege within the group dynamic. In many
patriarchal subgroups including fraternities, the drinking culture provides a channel through

a. Many researchers have evidence of that tennis was played among the ancient Greeks, Egyptians,
and Romans just in different formats. http://www.worldatlas.com/articles/where did tennis

12th centuries. In that time French monks played handball on improvised court yards, and the game

Bailey And Casey
Question: Bailey and Casey spend a lot of time interacting online. They re Facebook friends and
follow each other on Twitter and Instagram, as well as playing online games together. Unbeknownst to
Casey, though, Bailey is not a human being. Bailey is a computer program. Given that Bailey is
maintaining this sort of complex relationship with not just Casey, but an entire network of online
friends (none of whom suspect that Bailey is not human), are we justified in concluding that Bailey
has a mind? Antithesis: No, Bailey does not have a mind. Objection 1: Because Bailey is a computer

stored on a chip. Bailey s entity occupies no physical space, has no body, and has no actual brain. Due
to this, Bailey is not able to be conscious because ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

a being s mind is vastly different from its matter. In Bailey s case, she has no physical body but is
apparently still capable of entertaining and conveying many human like emotions using her artificial
mind. The 2013 film Her explored much of this same territory in the sense that artificially intelligent
software programs are capable of having emotions and complex relationships with human beings.

Tenets Of Confucianism
The military classics of China represent a long and historical culture of the Chinese people. They
represent the societal concerns and developments of China and within these texts are recurring tenets
that occupied the philosophy of China. Five tenets will be analyzed to show the Confucian

Chinese history and society beginning with Han Wudi s reign. Confucian influence found within the

Confucianism can be found once more in this strategy as the goal was to kill as few people as
possible, since the goal of warfare wasn t to kill people. Sun tzu favored a primary objective of
subjugating other states without fighting thus diplomatic coercion was the idea method. He stressed
avoiding prolonged warfare. He wrote, Thus the army values being victorious; it does not value
prolonged warfare. This meant maximizing the results with minimum destruction that is inflicted. The
writers like Wei Liao tzu focused on speed, deception, concentration of force, assaulting weak points
while avoiding strengths as strategic ways of forcing the opponent to acquiesce. Brute force warfare
was disdain for a maneuver that provided a quick end to a conflict thus achieving the desired goals
without excess killing.
Confucian ideals permeate through the military texts and the five tenets analyzed as examples of the
relationship between the military texts and Confucianism. The writers of these texts were bound
culturally to the Confucian ideals as they wrote the texts. This relationship emphasized peace more
than pacifism. Benevolence and righteousness can be seen through the various examples showing how

Insanity In The Black Cat By Edgar Allan Poe
Poe s The Black Cat is essentially an extended metaphor for insanity, specifically resulting from
obsession, and the psychopathic complexity of human nature. Through the narrator s reactions to and
Poe s incorporation of various symbols, the struggle the narrator faces with his conscience and moral
surface. The symbols that Poe employs, especially those relating to the black cats, work together to
form the convention of horror and suspense, as well as to convey the alteration of morality through
factors such as substance abuse and perverseness (Lazim 60). For example, the color of the cats,
black, is typically associated with aspects such as evil and death, both of which are embedded within
the narrator and his story. Black cats, themselves, are usually associated with bad luck and superstition
as well; this idea is even alluded to by the narrator s wife, although the narrator claims his wife was
never serious (Poe 4). Furthermore, there were specific instances that occurred that related primarily
to the narrator and his mental stability, motives, and emotions. For example, the hanging of his
companion, Pluto, is symbolic of the narrator s inability to accept love as a result of his increasing
irritability as well as his deteriorating stability and mental well being.

Puritan Ideology In Early America
Puritan ideology had a profound effect upon early America. Though they came to the New World

obviously led to the Puritan s having a dramatic effect on the literature The whole life of a Puritan was
dedicated to God, as He was the only one who could offer salvation from eternal damnation. They
believed that humans are sinners incapable of earning God s merit on their own, and for that reason
they observed strict moral codes in order to ensure that they may receive God s grace. This central

One of his sermons, A Model of Christian Charity espouses central Puritan ideals. As stated before the
Puritans believed in a strict moral code in order to gain God s grace. One means of living up to this
code was helping those who were less fortunate. Winthrop not only recommended charity towards
others but stated it was a Christian duty saying, When there is no other means by whereby our
Christian brother may be relieved in his distress, we must help him beyond our ability (208). In other
words, he believed that as Christians the people should go through drastic measures in order to help
his common man. This lends itself to Puritan ideals, as he personally believed this was a way of
completing one s covenant with God and later suggested that if all Christians can strive to practice the
morals expressed in the Bible that they could perhaps create a utopian community as a safe haven for
all including the Native Americans. This in particular was important at the time as the writings of
Winthrop can perhaps be attributed to improving relationships between the colonist and their

Impact Of Adolf Hitler The Leader Of The Nazi Party
HITLER BECOMES LEADER OF THE NAZI PARTY
On July 29th, 1921 Adolf Hitler becomes the leader of the NAZI party. In early 1921 the aspiring
leader had become good at giving speeches in front of large crowds. In February earlier that year, in
Munich, Hitler spoke in front of around six thousand people. At this point Hitler was starting to get
noticed outside of the NAZI party for his extreme views and powerful speeches. Slowly the many
extreme right wing in Munich started looking toward the rising politician and the NAZI movement as
the only person who would do something. Already Hitler was looking to carry his movement to the
rest of Germany, he then travelled to Berlin near the middle of 1921 to meet a nationalist group. In his
absence there was a revolt in the NAZI party leadership in Munich. At that point of time the Party was
still run by an executive committee whose members saw Hitler as arrogant and dictatorial. To weaken
Hitler s position, they formed an alliance with a group of socialists from Augsburg. July 11th, 1921,
Hitler made it back to Munich where he announced his resignation from the NAZI party. The leaders
of the party realised that the loss of Hitler would mean the end of the NAZIs. Hitler announced that he
would return to the party if the chairman gave him dictatorial powers. The committee members where

Personal Responsibility and the Gods’ Role in the Odyssey...
The gods play an important part in Odysseus journey home, bringing him closer and farther from his
homeland. They constantly intervene in the lives of the many characters in The Odyssey. Though
Odysseus is a hero, the gods control his life. It is as if he were the main character in a video game and
the gods are fighting over who controls his life. Personal responsibility is overshadowed by the gods
eagerness to grab the controller. Homer disregards personal responsibility by showing how the gods
take care of everything for Odysseus. It was ultimately Athena who begged Zeus to let Odysseus go
home by saying

She kept the controller away from Poseidon, protected Odysseus, and sped his journey home fully
realizing that Poseidon wanted Odysseus to pay for the many injuries he committed against himself
and his son, Polyphemus. Athena s navigational skills and quick thinking made Odysseus victory
feasible. She provided a disguise for Odysseus, came up with a battle plan, and kept his anger in check
by letting the suitors continue their taunts against him. Athena had no mind to let the brazen suitors
hold back now from their heart rending insults she meant to make the anguish cut still deeper into the
core of Laertes son Odysseus (Homer page 419). Additionally, she helped Odysseus battle the suitors,
looming out of the rafters high above them, brandished her man destroying shield of thunder,
terrifying the suitors out of their minds, and down the hall they panicked (Homer page 448). Saving
Odysseus and his servants lives, Athena acted against the suitors and, undoubtedly, won the battle for
him by scaring off the suitors who were not already dead. Though Athena takes the prize for
interfering with Odysseus life the most out of the rest of the gods, Poseidon also fights and claims the
controller, but he prevents Odysseus from reaching Ithaca instead of helping him (please refer to the
quote from page 78). Because of Odysseus actions against Poseidon s

Examples Of Misrepresentations In Haitian Poetry
Poetry have been a major tool for many Haitian writers to express the triumphs that they have and are
recently faced with, addressing misrepresentations that may have developed about Haiti, and to give
them a sense of hope and encouragement. In most Haitian poems you see the correlation of these
actions taking place in the defense of Haiti. Haiti has been a country who overcame many obstacles
such as; slavery, the Haitian revolution, recently the earthquake are continuing to go through many
more obstacles. Haiti as a whole have been a country for many years that have been up lifting each
other in various way, and poetry have been one of many of those ways. Patrick Sylvain, Emmanuel
Ejen, Devorah Major, and Rudwaan are examples of Haitian poets who paint a picture in a positive
light or even to portray a message of truth. In their poems Ports of Sorrow , We be Spirit People ,
Haiti: Statistics of loss and WONGOL all are poems with similar messages in different aspects of
light. The poem Ports of Sorrow by Patrick Sylvain is a poem about the pain that was developed from
the earthquake in Haiti and morn the lives of the people that were lost and a beautiful country that was
destroyed. We be Spirit People by Rudwaan is based on the Haitian revolutionary war, which was a
war fought by enslaved Haitian who defeated Napoleons army, Spanish and English as well and as a
result in 1804 Haiti became the first black independent country in the world. This poem sheds light on

Stereotypes And Conpects Of Cinderella In The Movie...
Fairy tales can be interesting but do we really know the message behind them ? Cinderella is about a
girl who is trying to achieve her dreams but she has a step mother that is greedy and cruel with her
,whom she treats cinderella as a slave. Cinderella is getting abused by her own sisters and stepmother ,
but she doesn t say anything. The story shows us that society expects women to be passive. It s not
only about the behavior but women s goals themselves that are being dictated by the fairy tales. The
women in this story is expected to be cleaning as a maid for her stepmother although the stepmother
encourages her own daughters for marriage so they can depend on a man preferably rich. In the
twentieth century the society has changed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the other hand, every girl in the kingdom wanted to marry the prince and be able to marry him . The
next day the two sisters went to the ball, and so did Cinderella, but dressed more magnificently than
before (9). The message this movie conveys is that the only way to escape from her abusive sister and
mother is to marry someone she has only knew for a few short hours. Marriage shouldn t be a choice
just because they want to get away from abuse but unfortunately it may be the only option woman
may have. Another message behind the story is that to be able to be good , a girl needs to have gender
behaviors and also goals for herself . In the beginning of the book , the book states, Once upon a time
there was a beautiful girl called Cinderella and she had two ugly stepsisters who were very unkind
who made her do all the hard work (1) . This shows that Anastasia and Drizella are very evil and very
selfish . So there attitudes and behavior make them seem unpretty. In the other hand, Cinderella is
different , the gentleman had also a young daughter, of rare goodness and sweetness of temper, which
she took from her mother, who was the best creature in the world (5). Cinderella had a very good
behavior and does everything for her stepsister and stepmother. This shows that she is loved for
qualities which are sweet, kind, and gentle. Gender roles can be dangerous

Essay on Effects Of Video Games On Youth
Excessive video game playing has been a problem with today s youth they have had more influences
over the youth than ever before. That brings to my attention a question, how do video games affect the
youth of our society? Excessive video game playing, especially violent video games, can lead to youth
violence, a decrease in academic success and many other negative things. I realize that some parents
believe that they can be good for children, I agree but I also disagree in some cases. Some parents
allow their children to play video games to keep a social life and to learn how to use strategies. This is
true in some cases but not in all cases. For instance, other children that play video games alone and are
in their rooms constantly can ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
On the other hand, considering a specific violent video game may have the reverse effect and actually
reduce perceptions of negative effects if it is difficult to generate arguments for negative effects of the
specific game (Ivory, Kalyanaraman 4). Although you may believe that violent video games increase
the youth violence rates, in actuality some violent video games can have separate effects on youth
depending on the child for instance, one child could become more violent whereas another child will
not have the urge to be violent.
Playing video games for hours at a time in one day, every day of the week can lead to another major
problem, gaming addiction. Youth may become obsessed with the game and think they have to beat it
before they do anything else and never want to leave their rooms because they want to consistently
play the game. Dr. Russell A. Sabella states in his article on Education.com that: for most people,
computer use and video game play is integrated into their lives as a balanced manner. For others, time
spent on the computer or video games is out of balance and has displaced work, school, friends, even
family (Sabella). Becoming addicted to video games can cause a lot of problems in the family because
some parents like to have family dinners and they have to literally fight with their kid to get

According to Howard Zinn it was for the Gold. Zinn claims that it was money and power that were
driving forces behind Columbus. He tells us that Spain promised him a 10% cut of all the gold found,
governorship of any new found lands, and the new title of Admiral.[2] Gold and the regulation thereof
are the primary focuses of Columbus letter to the King and Queen of Spain, thought to have been
written around the year 1492, but definitely written after the his initial discovery.[3] So whether
wholly or in part it appears that riches and power were factors contributing to Columbus decision to
risk so much. After all he made multiple trips across the Atlantic not just one. So apparently he was
concerned with more than just the discovery of a trade route. Columbus discovery was made possible
by the Spanish Crown therefore all new found lands were claimed in the name of Spain and a Spanish
flag planted on the soil thereof in testament to this fact. Spain was still a catholic nation at this time
and the Spanish monarchy still acknowledged the Pope as the dominant spiritual authority on the
Earth. However it would not be long after Columbus discovery that all of Europe would be shaken to
its very foundation and set ablaze in what we now call the Protestant Reformation. This revolution in
spiritual thought was the result of a simple

If change is forced on people normally problems occur. Change must be realistic, achievable and
measurable, so as managing director it is extremely important to understand how to engage
employees, and lead the business, in working around this change (TFG 2014). Change management
enables employees to adopt a change so that business objectives and outcomes can be achieved.
Whenever there is some sort of organizational change employees can experience varied levels of
discomfort. As managing director leading change requires juggling a number of psychological factors,
such as how employees think, how they perceive their current situation, how they will perceive a new
change (Price and Lawson 2008). To ensure the success of any change initiative, manager s efforts
should go first towards considering how your employees will perceive the change and approaching
this in the best way. Planning, leading organizing, negotiating and controlling are four management
functions that can be used and implemented to keep employees motivated towards company goals and
reassured about the businesses direction in a time of change.
Organizations are continually faced with a changing environment, therefore a need for a shift in
strategic direction, must be implemented. The successes of major organizational change initiatives are
almost always dependent on the incorporation of its workers and employees to help implement these
changes.

The advantages of debt financing are that: bond investors are generally willing to accept a lower rate
of return as compared to equity investors, the debt interest is tax deductible, and bond investors do not
have voting rights on company issues. (Anthony 243) General Motors times interest earned ratio has
generally stayed on course except for 1998. This shows that GM needs strong sales volumes to pay its
on its liabilities due to the low profit margin. If a long term decline in worldwide auto sales occurs,
GM may have difficulty paying on its debt.
In February 1998, GM announced a four billion dollar stock buyback program to decrease the number
of outstanding shares and lower the amount of dividend payments. This corporate action was
completed in December 1999 and they used over 2.6 billion dollars in cash to finalize the program in
1999.(GM 1999 77) This action shows that GM is committed to primarily issuing new debt to finance
any capital needs. The one benefit of this action is the amount of dividends that GM will have to pay
out to the current shareholders. In 1998, GM had to pay out 47% of its earnings to keep its fixed
dividend policy of $2.00 for the year. When companies are paying out that much of earnings that can

Ethical Dilemma Of The Oil Spill
Ethical Dilemma British petroleum has experienced a series of oil spill accidents since it was
established, however, the 2010 oil spill was considered the worst oil spill accident in the company s
history. The drilling rig in the Deepwater Horizon exploded and killed 11 workers and released
thousands of barrels of oil into the Gulf of Mexico (Arnold McKay 16). The accident affected
different states along the coastline including Texas, Mississippi, Florida, Alabama and Louisiana. In
addition, the oil spill affected the wild life as it killed birds, fish and destroyed nearby ecosystems and
economies including tourism and fishing. Several factors contributed to the oil spill accident including
cost saving and failure to put in place safety ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The organizational culture of arrogance, noncompliance and risk taking contributed to the accident.
The company did not consider corporate social responsibility important and hence it did not drill the
oil in a sustainable way to protect the stakeholders and the environment. Instead, the company
considered profit making a priority instead of the safety of the stakeholders and the public (Arnold
McKay 20). Whistle blowers were laid off and intimidated if they exposed the company s unethical
activities. As a result, the company undertook many projects and it was focused on working on the
frontiers and managing the risk. Besides, the organization protected itself from stakeholder who
questioned the firm s decision to take the risks. The executive managers did not entertain opposing
views. In addition to that, failure to put in place safety measures and risk management policies
contributed to the accident. The OSHA identified flaws in the company s regulations after the
explosion at the Texas oil refinery, but the firm did not address the issues. Instead, the organization
continued to take risks and cut costs and violated the United States law in order to reduce the costs of
producing oil. De Maria identified different strategies that the company should implement to address
the issue and prevent future crises. De Maria believed the organization should be victim focused and
accept the responsibility for the oil spill. BP accepted the responsibility for the oil spill

She had never been able to understand the laws of a universe which was so ready to leave her out of
its calculations (Wharton). Lily Bart, an unlucky woman who went from riches to rags, fights to retain
her position in high class society. Unfortunately, her lack of wealth and status as an unmarried 29 year
old woman makes her vulnerable to that same society. This novel explores the dark sides of humanity
and depicts the lesson that life is never fair. Lily makes her own choices, however, they are not
entirely made of her own volition. The heavy influence and expectations of Lily s environment

borrowed money from him; she is rumored to be ruined sexually because she was ruined financially.
Of course, women can t be ruined financially, as men can; in the case of House of Mirth, Lily s father:

The round robin is a livestock show at the Brown County Fair where kids 7th grade and older show a
variety of different animals. It s a large showmanship contest where a person is judged on how they
show the animal. My best friend had signed me up for it. I signed you and Abby up for the round

Ugh, I complained, I m terrible at showmanship.
Well too bad. she laughed.
This year had a new twist to the contest. We had to show beef, sheep, swine, and rabbits, but we
couldn t show our own animals. Abby, Mikayla, and I walked around the barns to find animals to
show. We went to beef first. Hey Brooke, can we show three of your cows for round robin? we asked

Norma Rae Analysis
Many great movies have the opportunity to change public opinion or perspective on various issues.
From politics and violence, to relationships and identity, cinema can offer poignant commentary on
many social and cultural issues. The 1979 Oscar winning film Norma Rae adds to this tradition with
its messages about women, labor and other aspects of 1970s life. When it was released this movie was
ground breaking. Its strong female protagonist inspired people all over the nation. As time has gone
on, the film continues to stand as a beacon women, as well as for working class families and their
attitudes toward life. Additional commentary on the film comes from Jefferson Cowie s book Stayin

The community depicted in the film consists of textile workers in the south and the film was even shot
in a real textile mill using workers as extras. This realism and accuracy gives an authentic depiction of
working class life in the late 1970s. This realism gives the audience of the time an ability to relate to
the events and ideas of the movie. Some working communities begin to realize that the fight to
unionize was literally a fight for the lives of working people. As workers of the time saw the movie
and saw the power of both individual effort and collaboration, they likely took these values back to
their home town. While some of the events in the movie do not relate to all communities, the emphasis
on thinking in new ways and taking new approaches to fair labor practices had a great impact on
people in the late 1970s. If a small southern town could overcome oppressive business forces and
unionize to seek better treatment, then all working towns should be able to do the same. The film s
influence on common working folks was not as significant as Norma Rae s impact on women, but still

Music Literacy And Its Influence On Music
Although technique and natural talent are big factors in music performing, it is suggested that a major
skill needed for a developing music performer is the ability to sight read (Paul), which is an important
factor in acquiring and expanding music literacy (Gromko). However, music literacy is a
compositional ability that requires many different abilities (Gromko, Lehmann and Ericson).
In relation to studies on English literacy acquisition techniques, little research has been conducted on
music literacy. In what research has been done, it is shown that music literacy and sight reading ability
acquisition has not an exact pedagogical technique or theory (Hodges). Given this, a review that
examines the research of variables and predictors of sight reading abilities and music literacy
knowledge acquisition has yet to be done. The purpose of this review is to synthesize published
articles on the research of music literacy to help give a better perspective on the variables that affect
the acquisition of music reading skills. Experiments, a national survey, and general observations were
used in this review.
First, the techniques and observations that are used to teach music literacy to musicians will be
evaluated. Next, eye pattern movements that have been observed while reading music will be
reviewed. Lastly, variables that affect the acquisition of music literacy and the success of sight reading
will be introduced.

It is hard to implement Lean in food industries
There is a basic assumption that Lean Production and associated continuous enhancement companies
do not provide themselves to very easy application in sectors that have large batch processes, like the
food and also refreshment industries. Normally these business kinds sell their items from huge

  • 2. Postpartum Hemorrhage Postpartum Hemorrhage Introduction Postpartum hemorrhage (PPH) is a significantly life threatening complication that can occur after both vaginal and caesarean births (Ricci Kyle, 2009). Simpson and Creehan (2008) define PPH as the amount of blood loss after vaginal birth, usually more than 500mL, or after a caesarean birth, normally more than 1000mL. However, the definition is arbitrary, attributed to the fact that loss of blood during birth is intuitive and widely inaccurate (Ricci Kyle, 2009). In line with this, studies have suggested that health care providers consistently underestimate actual blood loss, thus, an objective definition of PPH would be any amount of bleeding that exposes a mother in hemodynamic jeopardy (Ricci ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The sign and symptoms of PPH include; the apparent excessive bleeding, hematocrit reduction of the number of red blood cells, reduced blood pressure, development of symptoms of shock and anaemia, and severe pain and swelling of tissues and muscles of the vagina, vulva, pelvic and perineum (Simpson Creehan, 2008). Besides, Ricci Kyle (2009) avow that there are different factors that place a mother at risk for PPH, and they comprise; prolonged first, second or third stage of labour, previous history of PPH, foetal macrosomia, uterine infection, arrest of descent and multiple gestation. Other risk factors may include; mediolateral episiotomy, coagulation abnormalities, maternal hypertension, maternal exhaustion, malnutrition or anaemia, preeclampsia, precipitous birth, polyhydramnios and previous placenta previa (Ricci Kyle, 2009). Diagnosis and Assessment The principal mode of diagnosis is a differential diagnosis, and it includes a plethora of facets; bleeding from implantation site, which may be due to uterine atony, with predisposing factors such as infections, and retained placenta or abnormal placentation (Sheiner, 2011). Coagulation disorders and trauma are also essential facets considered during diagnosis (Sheiner, 2011). Conventionally, there are different methods used for the estimation of blood loss during diagnosis, and they are majorly classified as clinical and quantitative methods (Ricci Kyle, 2009). Clinical method remains the primary means to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Decision Making On Black Carbon Mitigation Decision Making on Black Carbon Mitigation Introduction There have been myriad of findings over the past couple of years suggesting that climate change may be happening far faster than we originally anticipated. Climate change has the potential to trigger abrupt transitions such as the release of carbon from thawing permafrost, ocean acidification, sea level rise, and biodiversity loss. The world has warmed by about 1.5°F, and by 2100 it is projected to rise another 2 to 11.5°F (Karl et al., 2009). Scientists conclude that greenhouse gases (GHG) from anthropogenic sources are the most significant driver of observed climate change (IPCC 2013). GHG have the property of absorbing the infrared radiation given off by the Earth and re emitting ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... BC has a short atmospheric residence time of days to weeks, while long‐lived GHGs can persist in the atmosphere for centuries. Therefore, reductions in GHG emissions will take longer to influence atmospheric concentrations and will have less impact on climate on a short timescale, whereas reductions in current BC emissions are immediate (Bice et al., 2009). Apart from that, some scientists (Shindell Faluvegi 2009, Ramanathan Feng 2009, Quinn et al. 2008, Jacobson 2010) attribute up to 50% of arctic ice melting to BC emissions, therefore its emissions reductions can substantially decrease the rate at which arctic ice is melting. Thus, initiatives focused on lowering BC will help offset the impact of decades of GHG emissions and give efforts to reduce carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions time to get off the ground. It s worth mentioning that BC also has adverse effect on human health, such as premature mortality, cardiovascular and respiratory diseases, and development of chronic respiratory disease, so targeting BC emissions will be beneficial from the public health standpoint (EPA 2011). Bringing black carbon into climate strategy offers a complementary route to act on climate change, but the scientific understanding of black carbon climate effects isn t fully complete to support this proposition. On the one hand, there s a group of scientists who conclude that BC is one of the most important human emission in terms of its climate forcing in current atmosphere, as it ... • 7. The Case Of Salron V. Salomon Co Ltd. PART A The issue is whether Mr Kenneth Lay is liable to contribute to the company s debts or not. Mr Lay is a separate legal entity under s.16 (2) Companies Act 2006. This is similar to the case of Salomon v Salomon Co Ltd (1897) where Mr Salomon was held to be a separate legal identity from the company. However, according to company law there are exceptions in which the court is willing to lift the corporate veil. The court will lift the corporate veil where certain circumstances occur such as fraud, improper or wrongful acts. Mr Lay gambled away all of the company s assets and reserves which is a wrongdoing under s.361 Insolvency Act 1986. He knew that there was no reasonable prospect of avoiding insolvency as the company was bankrupt and failed to minimise the potential loss to the company s creditors. Therefore, s.214 (2) IA 1986 applies in this case and the court may declare that Mr Lay is to be liable to contribute to the company s debts as this is a wrongful trading under s.214 IA 1986. This is similar to the case of Brooks v Armstrong (2015) where the three principle conditions for wrongful trading were outlined. Furthermore, he carried on business affairs with no intent to pay the company s debts and for fraudulent purposes. This is an offence under s.993 CA 2006 and s.213 IA 1986. This is similar to the case of Contex Drouzhbu Ltd v Wisemen And Another Ca (2007) where the representation was made fraudulently as the director knew the company was insolvent and ... • 8. A Perfect Day For Bananafish Summary A Perfect Day for Bananafish, a short story by J. D. Salinger, was written in 1948, a harsh time for Americans; men were back in their homes, the women were able to see their husbands again, and the VA s were full. Only, the war hadn t just ended. It had ended 3 years earlier. This was still too early for many men returning from the war. These men still had such terrible, mostly untreated, PTSD, that the VA hospitals released them before they were ready to return to the general population. This is what the story addresses; this is what Salinger was trying to show to all Americans. This isn t just any story; this is actually an anti war propaganda showing how PTS and PTSD negatively affect veterans, the lack of support from the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), and the misunderstanding of the civilian population. It shows the terrible effect of war on both veterans and their loved ones. It shows what happens when our government doesn t show appreciation to the defenders of our freedoms. Throughout all of history, humans have gone to war with each other. They may fight over land, food, social status, power, or simply over wrong and right. Many people take it for ... They may wake up screaming in the middle of the night, unable to go back to sleep. This may go on for years if untreated; in some cases, it never goes away, yet they continue to stay undiagnosed. In many cases, civilians will set off fireworks, often in celebration, that will trigger certain memories or flashbacks of their time in combat. Some brave veterans may choose to complain about the fireworks, but most people will ignore their requests to stop the fireworks simply because the don t truly understand what veterans experience. Songs are products and practices that are able to shed light on the philosophical, political, socio cultural norms, and perspectives of a particular society.1 Thus, these products shape the worldview of a cultural group. Within patriarchal subcultures, such as fraternities, song lyrics reflect socially constructed dominant masculinities that members are encouraged to adopt and engage in. From Rugby Road to Vinegar Hill, a drinking song made prominent by U.Va s Glee Club in the late 1940 s, captures the socially constructed masculinities portrayed in leisure alcohol use and the cultural masculine preferences of the members. Music and song are often used as an instrument to influence and amplify the hidden cultural values at the associated audience. Hence, preferred elements of masculinity such as heavy drinking, comradery and non relational sexual encounters with women in the fraternal society are reinforced.2 From Rugby Road to Vinegar Hill emphasizes how the expectations of hyper masculinity are facilitated in the fraternity culture and how gender violence in particular, sexual assault, is promoted and perpetuated in association with alcohol while affirming a masculine mentality of power and privilege within the group dynamic. Given that Bailey is maintaining this sort of complex relationship with not just Casey, but an entire network of online friends (none of whom suspect that Bailey is not human), are we justified in concluding that Bailey has a mind? The symbols that Poe employs, especially those relating to the black cats, work together to form the convention of horror and suspense, as well as to convey the alteration of morality through factors such as substance abuse and perverseness (Lazim 60). For example, the color of the cats, black, is typically associated with aspects such as evil and death, both of which are embedded within the narrator and his story. Black cats, themselves, are usually associated with bad luck and superstition as well; this idea is even alluded to by the narrator s wife, although the narrator claims his wife was never serious (Poe 4). Furthermore, there were specific instances that occurred that related primarily to the narrator and his mental stability, motives, and emotions. In other words, he believed that as Christians the people should go through drastic measures in order to help his common man. This lends itself to Puritan ideals, as he personally believed this was a way of completing one s covenant with God and later suggested that if all Christians can strive to practice the morals expressed in the Bible that they could perhaps create a utopian community as a safe haven for all including the Native Americans. As managing director leading change requires juggling a number of psychological factors, such as how employees think, how they perceive their current situation, how they will perceive a new change (Price and Lawson 2008). To ensure the success of any change initiative, manager s efforts should go first towards considering how your employees will perceive the change and approaching this in the best way. (Anthony 243) General Motors times interest earned ratio has generally stayed on course except for 1998. This shows that GM needs strong sales volumes to pay its on its liabilities due to the low profit margin. If a long term decline in worldwide auto sales occurs, GM may have difficulty paying on its debt. In February 1998, GM announced a four billion dollar stock buyback program to decrease the number of outstanding shares and lower the amount of dividend payments. This corporate action was completed in December 1999 and they used over 2.6 billion dollars in cash to finalize the program in 1999.(GM 1999 77) This action shows that GM is committed to primarily issuing new debt to finance any capital needs. The organizational culture of arrogance, noncompliance and risk taking contributed to the accident. The company did not consider corporate social responsibility important and hence it did not drill the oil in a sustainable way to protect the stakeholders and the environment. Instead, the company considered profit making a priority instead of the safety of the stakeholders and the public (Arnold McKay 20). Whistle blowers were laid off and intimidated if they exposed the company s unethical activities. As a result, the company undertook many projects and it was focused on working on the frontiers and managing the risk. Besides, the organization protected itself from stakeholder who questioned the firm s decision to take the risks. The executive managers did not entertain opposing views. In addition to that, failure to put in place safety measures and risk management policies contributed to the accident. The OSHA identified flaws in the company s regulations after the explosion at the Texas oil refinery, but the firm did not address the issues. Instead, the organization continued to take risks and cut costs and violated the United States law in order to reduce the costs of producing oil. De Maria identified different strategies that the company should implement to address the issue and prevent future crises. De Maria believed the organization should be victim focused and accept the responsibility for the oil spill. BP accepted the responsibility for the oil spill ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Lily Bart, an unlucky woman who went from riches to rags, fights to retain her position in high class society. Unfortunately, her lack of wealth and status as an unmarried 29 year old woman makes her vulnerable to that same society. This novel explores the dark sides of humanity and depicts the lesson that life is never fair. Lily makes her own choices, however, they are not entirely made of her own volition. The heavy influence and expectations of Lily s environment captures her in a deterministic system, therefore House of Mirth is a naturalist novel. Strangely, Lily is never described as ruined in the novel, perhaps because she is never physically ruined but only rumored to have been ruined, by virtue of her connection to a married man, Gus Trenor. Her connection to Trenor is of course provable because she borrowed money from him; she is rumored to be ruined sexually because she was ruined financially. Of course, women can t be ruined financially, as men can; in the case of House of Mirth, Lily s father: I m ruined he says, when the fortune fails (34). The round robin is a livestock show at the Brown County Fair where kids 7th grade and older show a variety of different animals. It s a large showmanship contest where a person is judged on how they show the animal. My best friend had signed me up for it. I signed you and Abby up for the round robin. she said. We had to show beef, sheep, swine, and rabbits, but we couldn t show our own animals. Abby, Mikayla, and I walked around the barns to find animals to show. We went to beef first. Hey Brooke, can we show three of your cows for round robin? we asked in unison. Of course. They re all pretty tame. Thanks! We practice for about 30 minutes and then moved to our next animals. We didn t have to practice with sheep and swine because we already know how to show them, so we went to rabbits, Hey Winston, can we show your rabbits for round robin? • 35. Norma Rae Analysis Many great movies have the opportunity to change public opinion or perspective on various issues. From politics and violence, to relationships and identity, cinema can offer poignant commentary on many social and cultural issues. The 1979 Oscar winning film Norma Rae adds to this tradition with its messages about women, labor and other aspects of 1970s life. When it was released this movie was ground breaking. Its strong female protagonist inspired people all over the nation. As time has gone on, the film continues to stand as a beacon women, as well as for working class families and their attitudes toward life. Additional commentary on the film comes from Jefferson Cowie s book Stayin Alive. In this book Cowie focuses on Sally Field s depiction ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The community depicted in the film consists of textile workers in the south and the film was even shot in a real textile mill using workers as extras. This realism and accuracy gives an authentic depiction of working class life in the late 1970s. This realism gives the audience of the time an ability to relate to the events and ideas of the movie. Some working communities begin to realize that the fight to unionize was literally a fight for the lives of working people. As workers of the time saw the movie and saw the power of both individual effort and collaboration, they likely took these values back to their home town. While some of the events in the movie do not relate to all communities, the emphasis on thinking in new ways and taking new approaches to fair labor practices had a great impact on people in the late 1970s. If a small southern town could overcome oppressive business forces and unionize to seek better treatment, then all working towns should be able to do the same. The film s influence on common working folks was not as significant as Norma Rae s impact on women, but still should not be ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 36. Music Literacy And Its Influence On Music Although technique and natural talent are big factors in music performing, it is suggested that a major skill needed for a developing music performer is the ability to sight read (Paul), which is an important factor in acquiring and expanding music literacy (Gromko). However, music literacy is a compositional ability that requires many different abilities (Gromko, Lehmann and Ericson). In relation to studies on English literacy acquisition techniques, little research has been conducted on music literacy. In what research has been done, it is shown that music literacy and sight reading ability acquisition has not an exact pedagogical technique or theory (Hodges). Given this, a review that examines the research of variables and predictors of sight reading abilities and music literacy knowledge acquisition has yet to be done. The purpose of this review is to synthesize published articles on the research of music literacy to help give a better perspective on the variables that affect the acquisition of music reading skills. Experiments, a national survey, and general observations were used in this review. First, the techniques and observations that are used to teach music literacy to musicians will be evaluated. Next, eye pattern movements that have been observed while reading music will be reviewed. Lastly, variables that affect the acquisition of music literacy and the success of sight reading will be introduced. Teaching and Acquiring Music Literacy Over the years, many ...
