Textual Analysis Of The Martian
Last quarter I took a class called Psychology of Gender that I really enjoyed. The topics that we
discussed were all very interesting and had me wanting to go to every class for engaging discussions.
We were put into groups at the very beginning of the quarter. We had the same group throughout the
entire quarter, with these groups we lead class discussions and presented our final presentations. The
final assignment for this class was for each group to choose a film and watch it. While watching the
film we were to look and see if we could identify any particular discourses about gender that the film,
intentionally or unintentionally, displayed. We were tasked with looking back at some of the ideas we
had discussed in class, some of which ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As a psychological minded individual I have been given a great vocabulary both from the Psychology
of Gender class and many others to describe gender issues and power issues reflected in the world. I
had not however, written an assignment on gender and power issues in the world and in the media
before. Approaching this assignment with a sense of openness and excitement really reflects how
much of a difference it makes when you feel connected to the material you are learning in a class.
Since this assignment, not much has changed about me as a student. I find that if I am engaged with
the material of classes and with my classmates I will have a lot to discuss in class. My Psychology of
Gender class further proved to me that professors who are very open to different ideas and veering off
the planned topic promote the greatest learning and reflecting. I was able to reflect about societal
issues and norms more in the class than any other class before it because of the great atmosphere that

Why Mexico And Not Canada
How do people feel when something completely biased is not in their favor? When people are
specifically targeted against for doing nothing wrong, is a horrible feeling. This is what happens every
day to Mexicans. Mexicans are practically hated if they try to come in our country compared to the
Canadians we enjoy having. People are shocked with the eye opening question, why Mexico and not
Canada . This is not because Mexicans are any worse but because there is a stereotype problem. . . .
This is a major problem buried in our country about the unjust discrepancy between the acceptance of
Mexican and Canadian Immigrants. . . This discrepancy is a biased view about what immigrants can
come into the U.S. It is huge problem how blatant racism in America is (insert ). . . News stories flash
about more border patrol agents going to protect our Mexican American border are on all of the time.
People receive a false feeling that Mexican immigrants are horrible. On the other side, we hear little
about our neighbor north of us. There is no focus on them because the U.S already feels the only
problem is Mexico. This places judgment about not being as good as the Canadians. This because a
problem of fairness; it is unfair. Mexicans are blamed for the bulk of why U.S. has immigration
problems. A study at the Migration Policy Institute shows immigrants are 13 percent of the American
population (INSERT ). Of this, less than two percent is made up of Hispanics. I conducted my own

Does Childhood Personality Affect Longevity Essay example
Psychology of Aging
Research Paper
Say you re the teacher of a fourth grade elementary class. The class consists of about forty kids, each
with different personalities and characteristics that make them extremely unique. Throughout the
school year you learn more about each kid. How they do in social situations? Who is the hard worker,
or leader? Through observation you identify the more optimistic students compared to the pessimistic
ones. Or introverted compared to extroverted. These are all different dispositional traits that you have
noticed through the students in your class. Now, what if I were to tell you that these dispositional traits
could play a huge role on your student s longevity? This is a question that psychologists ... Show more

Gender differences also had to be dealt with accordingly also. Reason being, females average life
expectancy is roughly 6 10 more years (Data ranges over different countries) than males. Beginning
the experiment, one of the subject s parents was asked to sit down with the subject s teacher at that
time and together rate the subjects personality with a given 25 trait dimension. Now that all of the
participant s dispositions were categorized accordingly, the next step was to create equations that
would evaluate a person s life expectancy at different points in their lives. Although several analyses
were made during this experiment, the focal one was the hazard regression analysis. This analysis
calculated mortality rate at all different ages by closely relating it to the personality dimension of the
participant (Friedman, Tucker, Tomlinson Keasey, Schwartz amp; Wingard, 1993). After running
through all the data and placing it in the appropriate equations, astounding results were revealed. As
expected woman had a greater life expectancy then men, along with showing a mortality hazard rate
that was two thirds the rate of men. Out of the six different personalities that a subject could have
been, two tested positive to being strong predictors on influencing longevity, whether it be longer or
shorter life expectancy. These dispositions were Conscientiousness and Cheerfulness.
Conscientiousness predicted longer longevity and cheerfulness predicted a

How Did Buddy Holly Influence Popular Music
Even Though Bob Dylan and Buddy Holly are both singer/song writers, their journeys have taken
them down completely different paths. One has had a long career in the industry and the other has
unfortunately has had a short career. Both have had wonderful and successful lives and are still well
known for what they accomplished with their music. Buddy Holly played rock n roll for a few short
year but the music he recorded in that time has made a major and forever lasting impact on popular
music. Not only did he write his own music, but he was also the first to exploit advanced studio
techniques such as double tracking, (rockhall.com). Bob Dylan on the other hand is a recognized poet
laureate of the rock n roll era and the pre eminent singer/songwriter of modern times. No matter if he
is singing topical folk songs, exploring rootsy rock and blues, or delivering one of his abstract,
allegorical compositions, he is always demonstrating a rare ability to reach listeners with his lyrics,
(rockhall.com).
Buddy Holly was born on September 7th, 1936 in Lubbock, Texas. His birth name was Charles Hardin
Holley, he is the youngest out of four children. He got the name Buddy from his mother, who felt his
birth name was too big for a young boy. Holly learned to play the piano and the fiddle when he was
pretty young, and his brothers taught him how to play the guitar. After Buddy graduated High School,
he formed a band that played country and western songs on the radio. He occasionally

Market Structure of the Carbonated Drinks Industry
The carbonated drink industry is a very extensive worldwide and has also encouraged an increase in
similar industries such as the packaging field that handles the production of cans, glass, and plastic
bottles for example, and at the same time is generating significant revenue for additional service
industries like advertising. The carbonated drink industry consists of the raw material retailers and

When launching into this industry the new product needs to be admired by consumers, retailers and
wholesalers. The advertising campaign must be able to convince merchants and retailers to stock the
new brand. With the existence of Coca Cola, Pepsi and Cadbury Schweppes the new brand will have
to compete for shelf space. These top competitors have already established a strong image in the
customer s mind. Merchants or retailers will acquire many risks in dedicating shelf space to the new
brand. Therefore, the new brand or product must be able to provide compensation for space.
Price elasticity of demand
Elasticity plays an important part when carbonated soft drink when companies are trying to determine
how to price its product, and order attributes. These companies will need to understand how quantity
responds to a change in price in order to achieve their revenue and margin goals. This research can be
collected from customers, products, and competition. With more decisions that consumers can pick
from, pricing will have a larger effect on the quantity demanded by the consumer. A large array of
satisfactory substitutes that consumers can choose from such as Coca Cola, Pepsi, Ritz and Publix

would only be once choice that consumers could buy from (for example, Pepsi) then this would be

Arthritis And Treatment Of Rheumatoid Arthritis Essay
Rheumatoid arthritis is one of the incurable diseases and turns chronic with progressive inflammatory
of the synovial lining of peripheral joins. It is characterized by symmetric, chronic, and deforming
polyatrhitis that causes long term joint disability when not controlled early. Considering there is no
cure for this disease, management focuses on pain and inflammation reduction in order to prevent
destruction of joints while at the same time preserving and improving on the functionality of the
patient (Varatharajan et al, 2009).
The type of treatment chosen depends on the type of arthritis and the effects it has on the patient as
well as the severity of the disease. Other factors to consider are the age of the patient and the joints
affected. Bearing in mind that different people exhibit different reactions to different medications,
treatment in this case is individualized but includes a combination of joint protection methods and
medication. For rheumatoid arthritis, the Initial treatment starts with non steroidal ant inflammatory
drugs and other simple analgesic but as the inflammation progresses, slow acting anti rheumatoid
drugs which are aimed at modifying the disease are introduced. They are added progressively as the
inflammation progresses in order to suppress the process that leads to chronic inflammation (Amin
1995).
After the analgesics or the non steroidal anti inflammatory drug commonly referred to as (NSAIDs)
have proven non responsive, disease modifying

Activity 1 (Report of 750 words)
This report identifies and assess factors that affect an organisations approach to both attracting talent
and recruitment and selection. It also identifies and explains benefits of attracting and retaining a
diverse workforce, describes methods of recruitment and methods of selection.
Factors that affect an organisations approach to attracting talent
For an organisation to attract talent successfully, as part of the talent planning policy it needs to
identify and assess what factors affect its approach to attracting talent. For example:
1. Economic Environment An organisation needs to consider what money is available to spend and

approach needs to show fairness by not discriminating (e.g. Age, gender) in any way. For example, in
adverts or interviews.
2. Organisational context Recruiting and selecting talent who s attitude that matches the organisations
culture, is a factor that influences recruitment and selection. For example, the right person for the
organisation, can then develop a job around their skills and capabilities.
3. Equal opportunities Approach should be ethical and legitimate by ensuring discrimination does not
occur. For example, all candidates should receive the same treatment and the process structured the
same way for each candidate.
4. Criteria Suitability criteria should be relevant to the job. This ensures that rational decisions based
on evidence are made about a candidate s suitability for the job. Therefore, the approach should be
professional, organised and decisions recorded in accordance with legal aspects and equal
opportunities as described above.

For this week, you need to find a case that deals with Due Process, the Equal Protection Clause or
Delegation.
Plessy v. Ferguson (1896)
What are the important and relevant faces of the case?
The Case is based upon The Equal Protection Clause, in which, this case occurred one hundred and
nineteen years ago, but it was very interesting as to see what has changed during the century. In 1890,
Louisiana State passed laws prohibited races to sit together on railroads; something in common with

Reflecting the common bias of the majority of the country at the time, Brown argued that If the civil
and political rights of both races be equal, one cannot be inferior to the other civilly or politically. If
one race be inferior to the other socially, the Constitution of the United States cannot put them upon
the same plane. The Court declared the Louisiana law a reasonable exercise of the State s police
power, enacted for the promotion of the public good.
In the key passage of the opinion, the Court stated that segregation was legal and constitutional as
long as facilities were equal. Thus the separate but equal doctrine that would keep America divided
along racial lines for over half a century longer came into being.
Somewhat ironically, while Brown, a Northerner, justified the segregation of the races, Justice John
Marshall Harlan, a Southerner from Kentucky, made a lone, resounding, and prophetic dissent. The
Thirteenth Amendment...struck down the institution of slavery [and]...decreed universal civil freedom,
Harlan declared. Our Constitution is color blind and neither knows nor tolerates classes among
citizens. Harlan s dissent became the main theme of the unanimous decision of the Court in Brown v.
Board of Education in 1954.
No great national protest followed in the wake of the Plessy decision. Segregation was an

The Massachusetts General Orthopedic Associates Essay
In 1998, the Massachusetts General Orthopedic Associates (MGOA), a specialized unit within
Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH), hired Dr. Harry Rubash and Dr. James Herndon, respectively,
to help to remedy the annual financial deficits, which were financed by dipping into endowment and
borrowings from MGH. These financial deficits have been continually getting into MGOA s mission
of providing high quality patient care, research, and teaching (Barro 3). In the immediate months after
accepting their positions of leadership, both Rubash and Herndon steered the hospital into the green
turning a modest profit. However, it was clear that their new initiatives wouldn t be viable for the long
term. To do so, Rubash and Herndon proposed a new physician compensation plan. This plan included
a development fund tax, a bonus, in addition to periodic adjustments to a base salary based on
individual physician performance in regards to how profitable the physician was for MGOA. Initial
physicians reaction to the proposed plan varied, however, if the case study was an indication, Rubash
and Herndon were determined to implement their plan.
The performance pay compensation plan that was proposed implemented a number of aspects of the
Expectancy Theory to encourage intrinsic and extrinsic motivation in order to make positive gains for
both the MGOA and the MGH. There were four main aspects of the plan that had changes
implemented: Physician Base Salary, Development Fund Tax, Bonus, and

For The Statement Of Purpose For Mechanical Engineering
Statement of Purpose
What is common between a simple linear actuator and a modern F 16 fighter jet? Many might
instantly quote the most conspicuous features. But one aspect of great influence in building systems
ranging from an actuator to a jet is the hidden technology (as stated by Prof. Richard Murray) being
controls. The future of mechanical engineering, when I envision it, is a world of smart, efficient
mechanical systems: self driving cars, autonomous robots, intelligent manufacturing lines and smart
energy grids. The ability of Control theory to manage and regulate behavior of systems in multiple
domains of Mechanical Engineering is appealing to me. It supplements my tendency to be versatile.
With a desire to learn advanced concepts in control theory and to apply them to a real world problem,
I want to pursue a MS degree in Mechanical Engineering with an emphasis in Controls. An
exploration into IC engines in my sophomore year, helped me secure an internship at Ashok Leyland
R D center. This gave me an industrial insight into engine assembly techniques, sensor systems and
had a hands on opportunity to install an EGR and Turbocharger module. I was awed by the interplay
of various minute components in an IC engine coming together to work in unison. Watching how

Essay On Becoming A Republican
The way that I grew up was out in rural Memphis, Tennessee. Therefore, I was raised to be a Christian

did not raise me to be a right winged republican. Instead, they took to heart what both democrats and

vote for someone just because they are a republican. If there is a person that is democrat, but brings to
the table more ideas that I agree with then I am more likely to vote for them. It depends on what the

How Does Dr. Heidegger s Experiment Symbolism
The Secret behind the Doors An allegory, also known as an analogy, is a short story that can have
hidden meanings using symbols and characters. Dr. Heidegger s Experiment by Nathaniel Hawthorne
is an example of this because when being read, the reader can see that the symbols are out of the
ordinary and not just a plain rose, or skeleton. The symbols throughout this short story represent
events that occur in the story, as foreshadow to the end. The characters are used to show emotions
people contain, and to prove a point by Hawthorne. Hawthorne represents hidden meanings by using a
series of symbols, and characters to appeal to the reader s common sense in hopes that they will

The Party Exited the Courtyard
Minister Mike s party included Skylar, Ethan, Mr Pisher and a meager handful of the remaining
students each of whom tolerated the midday sun as they walked single file around the massive Palace
structure. The once magnificent lush grounds had turned into withering vegetation. Water was scarce.
The new Government could not afford this luxurious expensive. Those who lived in the region did not
know why the devoted groundskeepers had recently abandoned their post. Soon, it would become
evident as Minister Mike s party continued around Egyptian style Palace.
The Babylon summer Palace was shaped in a U design, so when Minister Mike saw the balcony above
the first wing; he noticed Giselle by herself clutching the railing. She looked nauseated. He wanted to
say something. However, Mike felt it best to leave her alone.
Mike did not see Daniel ducking behind the balcony French door.

Misrepresentation Black Men
The media s representation on ethical/racial and colonial illustration is not always accurate; there are
many stereotypes and critics always find something to be false. Realism also plays a big role in
representing in what critics believe. (Shothat 178)
The sensitivity around stereotypes and distortions largely arises, then, form the powerlessness of
historically marginalized groups to control their own representation. Since Black people are the
minority, they have no control over how they are represented in the media. As Shothat had mentioned
in his article, In the media there is a tendency to represent Black males as potential delinquents. The
misrepresentation of most Black males, affects them significantly; therefore, since they

Investigating The Behaviour Of Equipotential And Electric...
E1 Electrostatics (Potential Field)
Date: 26th of August 2014
Partners: Luke Silveira and Tivanka Anandappa
Introduction:
This practical involved investigating the behaviour of equipotential and electric field lines between
two electrodes (which represented the a parallel plate capacitor). Furthermore the effect of adding a
conductor and an insulator between the two electrodes was explored to determine the electric potential
produced from these configurations.
The setup involved three of paper with low conducting teledeltos paper on top to allow the marker to
locate the potential at different points between the parallel plate. The power supply provided the
potential difference of 10V between the two plates and thus etched marks ... Show more content on

From this relationship, it insinuates that potential decrease linearly with distance.
Equipment2: Power supply to supply power to the electrodes Multimeter measure the potential
difference Wooden box base for the parallel plate Two stainless steel clamps used as the two
electrodes Marking probe to sketch the equipotential lines Stainless steel disc used as the insulator and
conductor Three types of paper Plain A4 photocopy paper to record equipotential line markings
Carbon paper imprint the markings onto plain A4 Teledeltos paper low electrical conducting material
Results and Analysis
Part A:
Ideal parallel plate capacitor has electric field lines that are perpendicular to the plates surface
(between the two plates) and also perpendicular to the equipotential lines.
Diagram 1 (expected)
Uncertainties
This value was determined based on numerous measurements of the fluctuating voltages and 0.1V was
deemed a suitable value.
U(V) Multimeter: + 0.1V
Distances were measured using a 30 cm ruler with 1mm increments. Thus the uncertainty involved is
U(d) Distance: + 0.0005m
U(E)=U(V)/U(d) =0.1/10/0.005/0.168 =0.339 =+ 0.3 V/m
From linest, the total uncertainty =+ 3V/m
Theoretically calculated
The linear equation [2] E = ∆Vc/d can be used to calculate the theoretical electric field by subbing in
the values of ∆Vc as 10V and the

Mary Maloney In Roald Dahl s Lamb To The Slaughter
Everyone does something at some point in their life that can be considered insane. Sometimes it s
simple things like trying a new food or a new hobby. However, other times it can be more extreme
such as stepping outside of the status quo or jumping out of an airplane. The story, Lamb to the
Slaughter by Roald Dahl takes the term insane a bit farther. The story depicts the life of Mary
Maloney and describes the event in which she hit and killed her husband with a leg of lamb after
receiving unfortunate news from husband when he returned home from work. However, Mary
Maloney is innocent due to reason of Insanity due to her inability of being aware of her actions
throughout the story. She does this by portraying the symptoms of a person with schizophrenia,
attempting to maintain to the forced conformity of gender roles, and her over attachment or jealousy
for her husband.
In many of Roald Dahl s storys, his characters have a tend to have an underlying trait to them that is
not always prevalent throughout the story . For instance, in this story, Mary Maloney struggles with
the trait of schizophrenia. A person with schizophrenia tends to exhibit some noticeable symptoms.
According to The Internet Mental Health Initiative, some of the symptoms can be sometimes feeling
nothing at all, feeling detached from your own body, and replaying or rehearsing conversations out
loud. Throughout the story, Mary Maloney has a tendency to display all of these symptoms as she
goes through the pre and post events that occurred after she received the unfortunate news. Lamb to
the Slaughter elaborates on the symptom of body detachment by quoting , The violence of the crash,
the noise, the small table overturning, helped bring her out of the shock (Dahl 382) . At this point in
the story, Mary Maloney has just hit her husband with a leg of lamb which then caused him to fall
over dead. This quote shows that during the point in time when she hit him, she was having an bodily
detachment due to the fact she was in shock from the news she had recently received. By the time she
had became fully aware of what she was doing and was awoken from her bodily detachment, he had
already hit the ground. Mary Maloney also portrays the mutual

The Views of Rupert Brooke and Wilfred Owen on War Essay
The Views of Rupert Brooke and Wil
My selected poems are The Soldier by Rupert Brooke and Dulce et
Decorum est by Wilfred Owen. Both war poems but conveying their different feelings and presenting
their views of war in radically different ways.
The poets have polarized views of war with Rupert Brooke writing his poem in a romanticized and
patriotic way referring to the possibility of death as a noble cause, for England the land that gave him
life.
This is at odds to how Wilfred Owen views the reality and horror of war. The poets choice of title
Dulce et Decorum est which translated means It is lovely and honourable to die for your country

The rest of the stanza continues to describe the men and the things they saw and sounds they heard:
Drunk with fatigue, deaf even to the hoots
Of Gas shells dropping softly behind
The use of the word Drunk is trying to emphasise that the soldier s were acting oblivious to the
happenings around them as if they weren t conscious and even deaf to the sounds of bombs.
In the second stanza the poet portrays an ecstasy of fumbling meaning he creates a huge panic of all
the men trying to apply their gas masks in time and illustrates the image of one soldier who didn t get
his mask on in time.
Gas! Gas! Quick boys An ecstasy of fumbling,
Fitting the clumsy helmets
This is the only quote of one of the men saying something and adds to the image of the rush they were
in. The adjective clumsy is used trying to describe how awkward the helmets were to put on, and how
much of a hassle they were to put on.
One of the men in this poem didn t get his mask on in time and was left by the rest in pain, screaming
and becoming weak:
But someone was still yelling out and stumbling
The word someone is used there because Owen is trying to show the man as being just another soldier.
He was nothing special in that he died for his country but no one remembers him as a hero, just one of
the thousands of men who died.
Owen then says how the someone was yelling out for help, for a soldier to come and rescue him and

Arranged Marriages In The United States
For thousands of years, parents have chosen their children s spouses; hopefully with some success.
Some countries still practice the tradition today. India turn most, if not all, of the wedding decision
over to the Patriarchs of the groom. In other countries only a portion of the country s population
practice it: even though the urban areas are controlled by the government many chinese dwelling in
rural farming areas still practice arranged marriages. In the United States of America people have
moved on to the idea of letting the young adults choose their own marriages, but do children make the

Though not as important as personality, and not as well seen as appearance education is apart of who a
person is. Its is often seen as learning in school, but education is how a person learns and what they
enjoy learning about. I love to read. It is one of my favorite things to do, and when given a little free
time I go read a book. My mom agreed with that attribute for a perfect mate for me, and adding that
the should like to discuss the books as well. Another trait we agreed on is having the love of learning.
I love to learn and am always trying to learn more things. A person who is perfect for me would
always be trying to learn new things, and be able to explore things with me. Part of this is not wanting
to have the same thing repeat over and over again. It is important to me to be with someone who is
willing to try new things and do something different than they did yesterday. What a person wants in
education is important to me in a perfect mate.
Music is a large part of my life not because I play a musical instrument, but because those around me
do. I often times have problems with this because they can be a nuisance to me, and because of this
my mom said that a perfect mate for me would not be a person who loves music. She also decided on
someone who is interested in many subjects, and as mentioned before especially english and reading.

Self Destruction In The Black Cat By Edgar Allen Poe
By analyzing The Black Cat by Edgar Allen Poe, we can see that the main character in the story makes
exceptionally perverse choices. The motive for his actions can be found in clues given throughout the
story. We can investigate what happened to the man, and see exactly what caused him to respond in
such a violent manner. To further look into the motives for the characters actions, we must inspect and
evaluate whether it was self destruction that turned him mad, or an effect of outside events.
The narrator acts in a way that shows us that he has self destructive tendencies. We can assume this
after we see him kill his cat, and in other parts of the story. He regrets killing his cat almost
instantaneously. He says, I experienced a sentiment half of horror, half of remorse, for the crime of
which I had been guilty (Poe 5). He deeply regrets cutting the cats eye out. He decided to kill the cat
because he was so emotionally guilty. He tells us, One night, returning home, much intoxicated, from
one of my haunts about town. (Poe 5). He was drunk, and this means that alcohol played an essential
part in his perverse decisions. The fact that his house burned down the night of the murder is
symbolic. The night of the day that he killed Pluto, he says, The curtains of my bed were in flames.
The whole house was blazing (Poe 6). His house is all of his achievements and worldly wealth, and it
was burned to the ground in flames. It is a direct result of his sin of murdering the innocent cat. It
could be seen as a symbol of his eternal destiny. It is a punishment for killing the cat.
While alcohol is a killer, outside influences could be the main reason for the characters perverse
actions. The character mentions his childhood briefly in the beginning of the story. I view the act as
the climax of inner, suppressed anxieties that are contained in how the narrator goes back to when he
was a young boy. His friends made fun of him for being so nice and docile. My tenderness of heart
was even so conspicuous as to make me the jest of my companions (Poe 3). His friends seem to have
made fun of him because he was a good person. He spent most of his time with his animals. His time
he spent could have been because his

The Height Of Colonialism Between The 18th And 20th Century
During the height of colonialism between the 17th and 20th century, almost all of Asia was at one
point either directly taken as a colonial possession, or was strongly influenced politically and
economically by a colonial power. The exception to this was Siam (now Thailand) which has
remained largely independent despite colonial pressure on all its borders (with the exception of the
concession of what is now Laos and Burma). For the sake of brevity and consistency, this essay will
only be dealing with events from between the early 19th century to the beginning of the 20th century.
During this period, the biggest threats to Siamese independence were the British to the west, and the
French to the east. As seen by the map below, by 1901, British influence (indicated by the red) had
extended to encompass the north and west of Siam (indicated by the bottom right green), while French
influence (indicated by the blue) covered the east of Siam. As Siam was surrounded by either French
or British colonies, it meant that other Western colonial powers would need to contest French or
British territories before it would be able to consider colonising Siam. Figure 1 part of a larger map of
Asia, World East Siam s geopolitical position would prove to be extremely beneficial, as its role as a
buffer between France and Britain would allow it room to maneuver in diplomatic relations, even in
the face of aggression and unfair treaties. The treaties would make up part of the

Roman Empire Problems
Rome was one of the greatest empires in the world. Rome was massive and they had powerful armies,
but Rome had to deal with many diseases. Additionally, the citizens hated their kings, because they
were unfit and greedy. Rome also had economical problems inside their borders and were threatened
from the outside. Rome was a great empire, yet simultaneously Rome had four major problems that
led to its destruction.
One of the most common issues that led to the fall of the western Roman empire was the emperors
who ruled that part of the ancient world. Many of them were greedy and unfit for the position to the
degree that they neglected their own country s needs. The reason was that they initially had inherited

The Roman empire was gigantic, so it was difficult to protect. The Romans used unprotected walls
and natural borders like rivers that were impossible to control or to protect. Roman legions were not
enough to protect the frontier boundaries and most of the legions were composed of mercenaries,
whose allegiance was only to the side that paid more. All these reasons contributed to the success of
the Germanic tribes invasion of Rome. The Romans used the Rhine and Danube Rivers as natural
borders with those tribes. The fact that made the Germanic invasion possible is that those rivers were
frozen when the invasion took place. At the time the legions were distracted with salaries and throne
control so they lost focus on their main job, protecting the empire. The Germanic tribes didn t only
invade Rome, but also destroyed the aqueducts, which caused a lack of fresh water and a lot of

Water Management Approaches And Techniques For Sustainable...
1.0 Sustainable Hydrology Sustainability is a way of meeting the needs of people and enhancing
human well being without negatively impacting the environment. Sustainable hydrology therefore
involves series of water management practices and infrastructural designs that ensure general public
have access to clean and safe water (EPA, 2015). It involves all aspects of projects and practices
related to management of water resources and storm water management. 2.0 What can the society do
to achieve sustainable hydrology? Our freshwater resources are limited and face mounting pressures
from drought, flooding, pollution, population growth, and competition from many uses (e.g.,
ecosystem protection, drinking water, agriculture, energy production, recreation) (EPA, 2014). There
is a need therefore for governments at all levels, partnering with communities to develop, encourage
and implement new technologies and other water conservation practices that can help protect, improve
the condition of our water resources. This paper focused on some widely accepted innovative
technologies, water management approaches and techniques for sustainable use of water resources.
Discussed in the following sections are some widely used water conservation and wastewater
management practices to achieving sustainable hydrology. 3.0. Source Protection This involves taking
essential actions to ensure that source water is as clean as possible in order to reduce the risk of

Haynes et al (1995) describe content validity as the degree of relevance from each elements to their

construct that build the model. Since the questionnaire in this research is based on previous research
from experts in this field of study, the statements should have at least acceptable level of content
validity.

(incremental fit index 0.9, goodness of fit index 0.9), low root mean square residuals and high

item and composite reliabilities.
Before implementing model fit evaluation, Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA) is adopted in this
research because according to Chiou in Wu et al. (2011), if the number of sample did not exceed 200,
then the model need to have ideal covariance matrix coefficients. As shown on appendix 6 2, all factor

highly significance level.

variances and also reached level of highly statistically significance. Thus, passing the preliminary fit
criteria. Meanwhile on the overall model fit criteria, as can be seen in table , the proposed model is
achieving almost all of the ideal results. Only two indicators that the model didn t achieved, the

Pro-Consent Essay
The three main aspects of politics, religion and the women s right to choose go into the different
arguments over the debates of abortion. One of the movements which is pro life which is against the
legalization of abortion. Another main movement is pro choice which believes that if the fetus is a
person then the women can t if the abortion. However, pro consent believes that the women have a
right to choose to consent to the condition of pregnancy or obtain an abortion (McDonagh, 23). Pro
consent supports the rights of all living beings. People in the general public in non similar situations

The reality becomes that all of Americans and most Catholics are in favor of legal abortions. However,
81% want abortion reduction which seems odd; but proves how religious views influence politics
(Cahill, 188). In the Supreme Court ruling Roe vs. Wade made abortion legal because of single
minded determination being questioned. Meanwhile, that may be the very thing that will reverse it
(Cahill, 188 89). Political candidate have to relate to the catholic bipartisan party in order to win an
election. This undermines the idea of the separation of church and state.
The general public believes that no child should live in unsafe circumstances. That means no fetus
should be knowingly born into an unhealthy environment. George Tiller stated that, Abortion is a
matter of survival for women (Young, 416). For example, a father raped and impregnated his nine year
old daughter. The clarity that the nine year old would be unfit mother and not developed enough to go
through pregnancy is evident (Young, 416 17). This coincides with Judith Jarvis Thomson s opinion of
Pro Consent.
A very vocal anti abortion protester stated for a video camera that he believed all fetuses should be
born, although, he was divorced and legally found as an unfit parent (Young, 419). This is a prime
example of unknowledgeable activists who argue that women should be forced to keep the babies by
the state should take care of the babies they could not support. However, a

  • 2. Textual Analysis Of The Martian Last quarter I took a class called Psychology of Gender that I really enjoyed. The topics that we discussed were all very interesting and had me wanting to go to every class for engaging discussions. We were put into groups at the very beginning of the quarter. We had the same group throughout the entire quarter, with these groups we lead class discussions and presented our final presentations. The final assignment for this class was for each group to choose a film and watch it. While watching the film we were to look and see if we could identify any particular discourses about gender that the film, intentionally or unintentionally, displayed. We were tasked with looking back at some of the ideas we had discussed in class, some of which ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As a psychological minded individual I have been given a great vocabulary both from the Psychology of Gender class and many others to describe gender issues and power issues reflected in the world. I had not however, written an assignment on gender and power issues in the world and in the media before. Approaching this assignment with a sense of openness and excitement really reflects how much of a difference it makes when you feel connected to the material you are learning in a class. Since this assignment, not much has changed about me as a student. I find that if I am engaged with the material of classes and with my classmates I will have a lot to discuss in class. My Psychology of Gender class further proved to me that professors who are very open to different ideas and veering off the planned topic promote the greatest learning and reflecting. I was able to reflect about societal issues and norms more in the class than any other class before it because of the great atmosphere that the professor ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Why Mexico And Not Canada How do people feel when something completely biased is not in their favor? When people are specifically targeted against for doing nothing wrong, is a horrible feeling. This is what happens every day to Mexicans. Mexicans are practically hated if they try to come in our country compared to the Canadians we enjoy having. People are shocked with the eye opening question, why Mexico and not Canada . This is not because Mexicans are any worse but because there is a stereotype problem. . . . This is a major problem buried in our country about the unjust discrepancy between the acceptance of Mexican and Canadian Immigrants. . . This discrepancy is a biased view about what immigrants can come into the U.S. It is huge problem how blatant racism in America is (insert ). . . News stories flash about more border patrol agents going to protect our Mexican American border are on all of the time. People receive a false feeling that Mexican immigrants are horrible. On the other side, we hear little about our neighbor north of us. There is no focus on them because the U.S already feels the only problem is Mexico. This places judgment about not being as good as the Canadians. This because a problem of fairness; it is unfair. Mexicans are blamed for the bulk of why U.S. has immigration problems. A study at the Migration Policy Institute shows immigrants are 13 percent of the American population (INSERT ). Of this, less than two percent is made up of Hispanics. I conducted my own ... The class consists of about forty kids, each with different personalities and characteristics that make them extremely unique. Throughout the school year you learn more about each kid. How they do in social situations? Who is the hard worker, or leader? Through observation you identify the more optimistic students compared to the pessimistic ones. Or introverted compared to extroverted. These are all different dispositional traits that you have noticed through the students in your class. Now, what if I were to tell you that these dispositional traits could play a huge role on your student s longevity? This is a question that psychologists ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Gender differences also had to be dealt with accordingly also. Reason being, females average life expectancy is roughly 6 10 more years (Data ranges over different countries) than males. Beginning the experiment, one of the subject s parents was asked to sit down with the subject s teacher at that time and together rate the subjects personality with a given 25 trait dimension. Now that all of the participant s dispositions were categorized accordingly, the next step was to create equations that would evaluate a person s life expectancy at different points in their lives. Although several analyses were made during this experiment, the focal one was the hazard regression analysis. This analysis calculated mortality rate at all different ages by closely relating it to the personality dimension of the participant (Friedman, Tucker, Tomlinson Keasey, Schwartz amp; Wingard, 1993). After running through all the data and placing it in the appropriate equations, astounding results were revealed. As expected woman had a greater life expectancy then men, along with showing a mortality hazard rate that was two thirds the rate of men. Out of the six different personalities that a subject could have been, two tested positive to being strong predictors on influencing longevity, whether it be longer or shorter life expectancy. These dispositions were Conscientiousness and Cheerfulness. Conscientiousness predicted longer longevity and cheerfulness predicted a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. How Did Buddy Holly Influence Popular Music Even Though Bob Dylan and Buddy Holly are both singer/song writers, their journeys have taken them down completely different paths. One has had a long career in the industry and the other has unfortunately has had a short career. Both have had wonderful and successful lives and are still well known for what they accomplished with their music. Buddy Holly played rock n roll for a few short year but the music he recorded in that time has made a major and forever lasting impact on popular music. Not only did he write his own music, but he was also the first to exploit advanced studio techniques such as double tracking, (rockhall.com). Bob Dylan on the other hand is a recognized poet laureate of the rock n roll era and the pre eminent singer/songwriter of modern times. No matter if he is singing topical folk songs, exploring rootsy rock and blues, or delivering one of his abstract, allegorical compositions, he is always demonstrating a rare ability to reach listeners with his lyrics, (rockhall.com). Buddy Holly was born on September 7th, 1936 in Lubbock, Texas. His birth name was Charles Hardin Holley, he is the youngest out of four children. He got the name Buddy from his mother, who felt his birth name was too big for a young boy. Holly learned to play the piano and the fiddle when he was pretty young, and his brothers taught him how to play the guitar. After Buddy graduated High School, he formed a band that played country and western songs on the radio. He occasionally ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Considering there is no cure for this disease, management focuses on pain and inflammation reduction in order to prevent destruction of joints while at the same time preserving and improving on the functionality of the patient (Varatharajan et al, 2009). The type of treatment chosen depends on the type of arthritis and the effects it has on the patient as well as the severity of the disease. Other factors to consider are the age of the patient and the joints affected. Bearing in mind that different people exhibit different reactions to different medications, treatment in this case is individualized but includes a combination of joint protection methods and medication. For rheumatoid arthritis, the Initial treatment starts with non steroidal ant inflammatory drugs and other simple analgesic but as the inflammation progresses, slow acting anti rheumatoid drugs which are aimed at modifying the disease are introduced. They are added progressively as the inflammation progresses in order to suppress the process that leads to chronic inflammation (Amin 1995). After the analgesics or the non steroidal anti inflammatory drug commonly referred to as (NSAIDs) have proven non responsive, disease modifying ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Court declared the Louisiana law a reasonable exercise of the State s police power, enacted for the promotion of the public good. In the key passage of the opinion, the Court stated that segregation was legal and constitutional as long as facilities were equal. Thus the separate but equal doctrine that would keep America divided along racial lines for over half a century longer came into being. Somewhat ironically, while Brown, a Northerner, justified the segregation of the races, Justice John Marshall Harlan, a Southerner from Kentucky, made a lone, resounding, and prophetic dissent. The Thirteenth Amendment...struck down the institution of slavery [and]...decreed universal civil freedom, Harlan declared. The Massachusetts General Orthopedic Associates Essay In 1998, the Massachusetts General Orthopedic Associates (MGOA), a specialized unit within Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH), hired Dr. Harry Rubash and Dr. James Herndon, respectively, to help to remedy the annual financial deficits, which were financed by dipping into endowment and borrowings from MGH. These financial deficits have been continually getting into MGOA s mission of providing high quality patient care, research, and teaching (Barro 3). In the immediate months after accepting their positions of leadership, both Rubash and Herndon steered the hospital into the green turning a modest profit. This plan included a development fund tax, a bonus, in addition to periodic adjustments to a base salary based on individual physician performance in regards to how profitable the physician was for MGOA. Initial physicians reaction to the proposed plan varied, however, if the case study was an indication, Rubash and Herndon were determined to implement their plan. The performance pay compensation plan that was proposed implemented a number of aspects of the Expectancy Theory to encourage intrinsic and extrinsic motivation in order to make positive gains for both the MGOA and the MGH. To further look into the motives for the characters actions, we must inspect and evaluate whether it was self destruction that turned him mad, or an effect of outside events. The narrator acts in a way that shows us that he has self destructive tendencies. We can assume this after we see him kill his cat, and in other parts of the story. He regrets killing his cat almost instantaneously. He says, I experienced a sentiment half of horror, half of remorse, for the crime of which I had been guilty (Poe 5). He deeply regrets cutting the cats eye out. He decided to kill the cat because he was so emotionally guilty. He tells us, One night, returning home, much intoxicated, from one of my haunts about town. (Poe 5). He was drunk, and this means that alcohol played an essential part in his perverse decisions. The fact that his house burned down the night of the murder is symbolic. The night of the day that he killed Pluto, he says, The curtains of my bed were in flames. The whole house was blazing (Poe 6). His house is all of his achievements and worldly wealth, and it was burned to the ground in flames. It is a direct result of his sin of murdering the innocent cat. It could be seen as a symbol of his eternal destiny. It is a punishment for killing the cat. While alcohol is a killer, outside influences could be the main reason for the characters perverse actions. The character mentions his childhood briefly in the beginning of the story. I view the act as the climax of inner, suppressed anxieties that are contained in how the narrator goes back to when he was a young boy. His friends made fun of him for being so nice and docile. My tenderness of heart was even so conspicuous as to make me the jest of my companions (Poe 3). His friends seem to have made fun of him because he was a good person. He spent most of his time with his animals. His time he spent could have been because his ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 32. The Height Of Colonialism Between The 18th And 20th Century During the height of colonialism between the 17th and 20th century, almost all of Asia was at one point either directly taken as a colonial possession, or was strongly influenced politically and economically by a colonial power. The exception to this was Siam (now Thailand) which has remained largely independent despite colonial pressure on all its borders (with the exception of the concession of what is now Laos and Burma). For the sake of brevity and consistency, this essay will only be dealing with events from between the early 19th century to the beginning of the 20th century. During this period, the biggest threats to Siamese independence were the British to the west, and the French to the east. As seen by the map below, by 1901, British influence (indicated by the red) had extended to encompass the north and west of Siam (indicated by the bottom right green), while French influence (indicated by the blue) covered the east of Siam. As Siam was surrounded by either French or British colonies, it meant that other Western colonial powers would need to contest French or British territories before it would be able to consider colonising Siam. Figure 1 part of a larger map of Asia, World East Siam s geopolitical position would prove to be extremely beneficial, as its role as a buffer between France and Britain would allow it room to maneuver in diplomatic relations, even in the face of aggression and unfair treaties. The treaties would make up part of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 33. Roman Empire Problems Rome was one of the greatest empires in the world. Rome was massive and they had powerful armies, but Rome had to deal with many diseases. Additionally, the citizens hated their kings, because they were unfit and greedy. Rome also had economical problems inside their borders and were threatened from the outside. Rome was a great empire, yet simultaneously Rome had four major problems that led to its destruction. One of the most common issues that led to the fall of the western Roman empire was the emperors who ruled that part of the ancient world. Many of them were greedy and unfit for the position to the degree that they neglected their own country s needs. The reason was that they initially had inherited the throne and did not rise to power ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Roman empire was gigantic, so it was difficult to protect. The Romans used unprotected walls and natural borders like rivers that were impossible to control or to protect. Roman legions were not enough to protect the frontier boundaries and most of the legions were composed of mercenaries, whose allegiance was only to the side that paid more. All these reasons contributed to the success of the Germanic tribes invasion of Rome. The Romans used the Rhine and Danube Rivers as natural borders with those tribes. The fact that made the Germanic invasion possible is that those rivers were frozen when the invasion took place. At the time the legions were distracted with salaries and throne control so they lost focus on their main job, protecting the empire. • 34. Water Management Approaches And Techniques For Sustainable... 1.0 Sustainable Hydrology Sustainability is a way of meeting the needs of people and enhancing human well being without negatively impacting the environment. Sustainable hydrology therefore involves series of water management practices and infrastructural designs that ensure general public have access to clean and safe water (EPA, 2015). It involves all aspects of projects and practices related to management of water resources and storm water management. 2.0 What can the society do to achieve sustainable hydrology? Our freshwater resources are limited and face mounting pressures from drought, flooding, pollution, population growth, and competition from many uses (e.g., ecosystem protection, drinking water, agriculture, energy production, recreation) (EPA, 2014). There is a need therefore for governments at all levels, partnering with communities to develop, encourage and implement new technologies and other water conservation practices that can help protect, improve the condition of our water resources. This paper focused on some widely accepted innovative technologies, water management approaches and techniques for sustainable use of water resources. Discussed in the following sections are some widely used water conservation and wastewater management practices to achieving sustainable hydrology. 3.0. Source Protection This involves taking essential actions to ensure that source water is as clean as possible in order to reduce the risk of contaminants and pathogens in ... • 35. Content Validity And Its Effects On The Research Instrument 5.3. Content validity Haynes et al (1995) describe content validity as the degree of relevance from each elements to their research instrument. In this research, content validity relates to the relevance of the statements to the construct that build the model. Since the questionnaire in this research is based on previous research from experts in this field of study, the statements should have at least acceptable level of content validity. 5.4. Structural Equation Modelling Structural Equation Modelling (SEM) is a common approach in behavioural sciences to measure relationships between latent factors or theoretical constructs of observed elements. This model is known as a mixture of factor analysis and regression or path analysis and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The next criteria requires the model to achieve very low value of chi square, satisfactory indices (incremental fit index 0.9, goodness of fit index 0.9), low root mean square residuals and high coefficient of determination. Lastly, the final criteria requires the accomplishment of high individual item and composite reliabilities. Before implementing model fit evaluation, Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA) is adopted in this research because according to Chiou in Wu et al. (2011), if the number of sample did not exceed 200, then the model need to have ideal covariance matrix coefficients. As shown on appendix 6 2, all factor loadings are between 0.26 and 0.98, all error variances are non negative and achieved statistically highly significance level. Model fit evaluation For the model fit evaluation, the model has factor loading between 0.26 and 0.96, positive error variances and also reached level of highly statistically significance. Thus, passing the preliminary fit criteria. Meanwhile on the overall model fit criteria, as can be seen in table , the proposed model is achieving almost all of the ideal results. Only two indicators that the model didn t achieved, the goodness of fit index (GFI) and Adjusted GFI (AGFI). However, pro consent believes that the women have a right to choose to consent to the condition of pregnancy or obtain an abortion (McDonagh, 23). The reality becomes that all of Americans and most Catholics are in favor of legal abortions. However, 81% want abortion reduction which seems odd; but proves how religious views influence politics (Cahill, 188). In the Supreme Court ruling Roe vs. Wade made abortion legal because of single minded determination being questioned. Meanwhile, that may be the very thing that will reverse it (Cahill, 188 89). Political candidate have to relate to the catholic bipartisan party in order to win an election. This undermines the idea of the separation of church and state. The general public believes that no child should live in unsafe circumstances. That means no fetus should be knowingly born into an unhealthy environment. George Tiller stated that, Abortion is a matter of survival for women (Young, 416). For example, a father raped and impregnated his nine year old daughter. The clarity that the nine year old would be unfit mother and not developed enough to go through pregnancy is evident (Young, 416 17). This coincides with Judith Jarvis Thomson s opinion of Pro Consent. A very vocal anti abortion protester stated for a video camera that he believed all fetuses should be born, although, he was divorced and legally found as an unfit parent (Young, 419). This is a prime example of unknowledgeable activists who argue that women should be forced to keep the babies by the state should take care of the babies they could not support. However, a ...
