All Men Are Created Equal Dbq
All men are created equal , though this would be a fact of the Western World society today, it was
certainly not always that way. With the beginning of slavery in the 1600s, to becoming the main cause
of the Civil War and abolishment of it, here is slavery; from the Union s point of view.
The earliest form of slavery in North America can be traced back to Jamestown, Virginia in 1619.
There, they were called the Twenty and Odd and considered servants rather than slaves. Though little
is known about this infamous event, this trade continued of capturing Africans from Africa and
bringing them to the colonies of Britain. The usage of slaves increased and were often used as field
laborers on plantations, house workers, blacksmiths ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They had more supplies, better outfits and an efficient way to make weapons compared to the South.
By the end of the war, there were roughly 198,000 African Americans in the Civil War. This was a
controversy for not only some of the Union who refused to fight alongside an African American, but
also for the South who would see them in combat. There were disputes among both sides over the
Union taking slaves from the South and ultimately rescuing them. Though the North claimed it was
legal, considering slaves were property and both sides were allowed to raid and confiscate property
from each other. This was particular accomplishment on the Union s half, for it took the Confederate s
words and used them against them.
The Union won the war and slavery was officially abolished with the thirteenth amendment in 1865.
This great accomplishment brought America one step closer to equality, though there is still work to
be done today in the Western World. Though this resolution leaves the future bright for all places in

Speech About Magallanes
Magallanes is one of the reasons why the city of Makati is constantly on the move. Its roads are
pivotal access ways that bring commuters from EDSA and the South Expressway to and from the
business district. Though it is a far cry from Philippine s numerous beaches, Magallanes is the perfect
destination for individuals who are into the fast paced lifestyle. At a Glance Magallanes presents itself
like any typical city. Because of its proximity to Makati, its views are dominated by lofty buildings,
concrete highways, and abundant cars. Magallanes also has a residential area, due to its barangay
status, so there are a handful of villages and houses sprawling around. However, Magallanes does
have a couple of nearby locations that take you away from the urban landscape momentarily. And the
great thing about it is that, they are all easy to get to. As one of Makati s wealthier barangays, some

What It Means To Be Grateful
What does it mean to be grateful? Why do we need to be grateful? As a Christian why is it important
to be grateful? Based on what we have done for the past week, which is writing down what we were
grateful each day, I have learned to look at life a little differently. Gratitude is not just an expression. It
is not temporary feeling. I have learned that gratitude is something much more permanent and
everlasting. Gratitude is a genuine feeling that can help you look at the world in a whole new beautiful
world. Gratitude can make this ugly world beautiful. In the week where I was inputting into a journal
what I am grateful for, has been a week of pure joy and amazement. I was able to look at my day and
really reflect on what effect of what people have on me and what effect I have on them. For example,
on Saturday I wrote that someone held my door without me realizing it. I was just really grateful that
someone took their time out of their day just to provide that act of service in my life. It makes me look
at the little things and appreciate people in a different way. I was able to stop looking at the big picture
but look for little details. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Cultural Competence And The Media
Cultural competence has been a heavy topic throughout class, the way we view different races,
cultures, and walks of life generates from the way these groups are portrayed in the media. If we never
get a chance to have direct contact with those from other walks of life, we began to group these
different races or cultures together and think everyone is the same way as those we see in movies and
on television. Although, we heavily discussed Latinos who have migrated to the states, we rarely
touched on the third and largest immigrant group to come from Europe. The Italian Americans who
came to the U.S. and made a way for not only themselves, but for their families as well. Their stories
are not as picture perfect as some we see today and if the media has the chance to tell the story, they
all have in some way had a hand in organized crime. Over the years, the media has taken the success
and profits that have come from mob movies and have turned the Italian mob lifestyle into a money
making gimmick. The making of mob movies is not as prominent during today s time in comparison
to previous years, but with the lack of movies has come an increase in television shows that are based
on the true stories of famous mobsters from the past. With shows like Making the Mob: New York
Chicago , Mafia s Greatest Hits , and the fictional show The Sopranos just to name a few, it shows that
a fascination for the mobster lifestyle is still very strong today. Much like the other cultures we

Western World Religion
Although there were many different aspects that played into the shaping of Western society, religion
was the most influential. That s not to say that religion was able to do that alone, but it seems that no
matter what was happening during the course of the last several hundred years, religion played a part.
Without the efforts of Luther, Zwingli, Calvin, and many others who were willing to stick their necks
out for religious freedom. Bucking the system and questioning the status quo was exactly the theme of
every major development in the Western world. The following words from Martin Luther help to bring
together an idea that sparked progression and reform that began in the early 1500s and is still in
motion today:

God s right, or the divine right of kings, led to many civilizations under the direction of rule by those
who were only in that position because of religious standing. Thanks to the actions of political
reformers, many nations began adopting policies that were more representative of their inhabitants.
They weren t perfect to begin with, and many countries were ruled by emperors who claimed to be
progressive but were clinging on to ideas that would further their own agendas. They were called
enlightened despots. Catherine the Great was one of those rulers. She had many great ideas and was
seen by most of her people as a friend of Enlightenment. However, she had a greater desire to be
views as an enlightened leader, rather than actually being one. When Catherine suspended meetings of
a Legislative Committee aimed at giving a voice to all due to her lack of order, it led many to believe
that there were aspects of her persona that were simply for show (Boeve, Schrijvers, Stoker, Vroom,
2006). However, even a glimmer of progression showed that the once unheard of actions of religious
reformists was beginning to have an impact on all facets of

Misandry Feminism
Feminism. In today s modern age, when most people hear that word, they cringe and think of ugly,
hairy women ejecting hatred towards men, women that think they are subordinate and higher than
every man out there, and women that desire nothing more than to emasculate the opposite sex. If they
took the time to educate themselves, they could learn that feminism and misandry are two very
different words. As Oxford dictionary describes it, Misandry is a hatred of men while Feminism is the
equality of the sexes. With phrases like Women s turn to dominate! and All men are pigs! I can
understand why some people think that misandry equates to feminism. To encourage dialogue between
men and women in addressing these issues, there must be an end in viewing feminists as misandrists.
Instead of empowering all genders, it puts them down. The misconception about feminism comes
from a lack of understanding what feminists goals are. The main goal being gender equality. To
achieve economic and social equality, we must acknowledge the three reasons why it is still relevant
today; gender roles, the wage gap, and rape culture. Ever since the Seneca Falls Convention in 1848,
the first convention for women s rights in the Unites States, feminism has become an essential
movement that our world needs to progress. This convention was a movement that was organized by
two abolitionists who met at the 1840 World Anti Slavery Convention in London, Lucretia Mott and

The Catholic Church During The Middle Ages And Through The...
Beginning in the Middle Ages and through the seventeenth centuries, witch trials occurred in Europe.
Many people were accused of being witches some of these people were accused of being witches for
not following Christian beliefs at that time and others followed witch prosecutions for goods and
money. Furthermore, the stereotypes of witches at this period also had a role in causing witch
prosecutions. In this essay I argue how these three components led to the death of so called witches.
Firstly, I will discuss how the Catholic Church had an impact on most prosecutions. Secondly, I will
explain how social stereotypes of that period have also influenced with the causes of prosecution of
many alleged witches. Thirdly, I will discuss how ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is important to understand the meaning of witchcraft to be able to identify what caused the massive
witch hunt in Europe. During the medieval to the early modern period witchcraft was identified as the
practice of harmful, black or maleficent magic caused by a witch (Levack, 1987, p. 4). They also
describe them as evildoers that associate with the Devil, kidnap children, and murder others. These
accusations were untrue rumors made by the Catholic Church to promote Christianity and punish
those who did not follow the church beliefs. (Levack, 1987, p. 7)
Furthermore, Witches were commonplace all over the world with different stigmas and stereotypes
attached to them from each respectful culture that contained them (Girard, 1986). It was not until the
rise of the Catholic Church that witches soon became associated with black magic and the Devil,
leading to mass prosecutions. In the Middle Ages there was a popular belief that demons walked the
Earth, leaving disease and devastation in their wake. The church, feeling threatened by the ideologies
of Witchcraft, decided to link the old Pagan religion with that of Satanism (Levack, 1987). By doing
so, they were able to gather favor from the masses by taking advantage of the fear of the Devil by the
public and using it to prosecute those who

The Empty Tomb
Between how the empty tomb was discovered, who discovered it, who told the discoverers where
Jesus had gone, there were many differences in these stories details pertaining to this. Another vast
difference came in the reactions to what the storytellers told the disciples and who Jesus appeared to in
regards to getting others to believe what has happened. Matthew 27, the crucifixion was one that is
very familiar to many Christians; this story doesn t often stray from its basis. The one new thing I did
learn was that two rebels were executed with Him and even they cursed Jesus name at the time. One
of my favorite differences between Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John were when the message of Jesus
resurrection was told to people. Between the angel, the young man with a white robe, two men in
gleaming robes, or Jesus himself, the stories all came from a different perspective but for the most part
were very similar and that specifically was interesting to research. The angel said to the women, Do
not be afraid, for I know that you are looking for Jesus, who was crucified. He is not here; He has
risen, just as He said. Come and see the place where He lay.... In this encounter, Mary and Mary
Magdalene both approached the tomb but was confronted by this angel on the closed tomb who told
them the fate of Jesus. In their quest to inform the disciples of this great news they met with the
presence of Jesus who told them not to be afraid and to tell his brothers to go to Galilee and

Gestational Diagnostic Essay
Gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) is a type of diabetes which usually occurs around 24th to 28th
weeks of pregnancy. [1] A pregnant woman is diagnosed with GDM when her blood glucose level is
higher than normal. Therefore, there are several treatment options available to treat GDM patient.
The main aim of treatment of GDM patient is to ensure the blood glucose level of a GDM pregnant
woman is equal to those normal pregnant women that do not have GDM. The first line therapy in the
management of GDM involves lifestyle modification and medical nutrition therapy. Based on the
trigger, the patient is overweight. Thus, she needs nutritional counseling from a registered dietitian in
order to help her to manage her weight. She should follow a healthy eating plan to keep her blood
glucose level within the target value, provide enough nutrition and achieve appropriate weight changes
during her pregnancy. Furthermore, she should keep physically active by doing some light exercise
such as brisk walking which can help to prevent further gaining of weight. Plus, exercise can also help
to reduce blood sugar level by stimulating body to move glucose into the cells, where it is used for
energy [2].
Insulin therapy should be considered if the GDM patient fails to reach the target ... Show more content

and the use of metformin alone or as adjunct to insulin is not related with the increased perinatal

acceptable to use metformin than insulin as metformin helps to increase the insulin sensitivity in both

Franz Kafka s A Hunger Artist And The Metamorphosis
Self insertion, a literary device in which a character who is the real author of a work of fiction appears
as a character within fiction, either overtly or in disguise. Imagine yourself being unable to obtain the
recognition of your parents your whole life and leaving this world as a nobody. The writings of Franz
Kafka not only spoke of the absurdity of life, but also about who he was. They told about what type of
human being he was, and how he was feeling. You can see this in both of his well known short stories,
A Hunger Artist and The Metamorphosis. I believe that there is a personal link between author and
character and that it can be found in most of his works.
Franz Kafka was born on July 3, 1883, in Prague. The writer grew up in a middle class Jewish family
and studied law at the University of Prague. By the time Kafka was six he had lost his two younger
brothers, they were only infants, leaving Franz as the only boy in the family. This tragedy shaped the
family for the rest of their lives. Growing up Kafka s relationship with his parents suffered, neither of
them supporting his desire of become a writer. Hermann Kafka, Franz s father, was a forceful man and
made it apparent throughout the household. Kafka s father had a profound impact on both Kafka s life
and writing. He was a tyrant of sorts, with a wicked temper and little appreciation for his son s
creative side ( Franz Kafka. Bio. A E Television Networks). Although it was difficult to get along with

Government Corruption In Liberia
Liberia has a multi party system, with seventeen total parties. The government is modeled after the
United States government. The legislature seems to hold the most power in the country, while the
president is immune from suits, proceedings, and arrests, the president can still be impeached from the
office for treason or bribery. There is a national and a local government, though the local government
is appointed by the president until each county can afford to hold their own elections.
The elections are comparatively free, fair, and peaceful, though there were isolated incidents of
violence before and after voting, and the government shut down radio and television stations before
the vote. The president is directly elected by absolute majority in two rounds for a six year term and
are eligible for a second term. The most recent election was October 10, 2017. Although the run off
election that was scheduled for November 7 was put on hold due to fraud allegations. The current
president in office is Ellen Johnson Sirleaf. She was the first elected female head of state in Africa.
She is the role of both chief of state and head of government.
The legislature has a senate and a house of representatives. The senate has thirty members and they
serve nine year terms. The House of representative has seventy three members and has a six year term.
The last elections were due to be in 2014 but were delayed to the outbreak of Ebola.

Monsters In Anne Rice s Interview With The Vampire
Every year millions of children lose sleep over the fear of a monster laying underneath their beds. This
fear is not irrational, as monsters are dangerous and deadly. Although some would argue that there is
an attraction factor which comes from the fear of monsters, this attraction is only limited to the
modern vampire. Their unique ability to step outside the realm of society and break boundaries which
only some could imagine tearing through is exactly what makes them so intriguing to the public. The
common theme of vampires in early literature, which captured the public s attention, has always

It Is Estimated That About 17% Of The Worldwide Population
It is estimated that about 17% of the worldwide population is at risk of developing zinc deficiency
(Wessells KR and Brown KH 2012 7). Zinc as a biologically essential micronutrient, is important for a
proper functioning of human and animals. The human body contains 2 3 g of zinc located mainly in
the muscle and bone (Vela G. 2015 2015:972791). In the brain, the highest levels of zinc are found in
the cortex, hippocampus and amygdala (Takeda A. 2009 11;62(1):33 44; Swardfager W. 37 2013 911
929; Grabrucker AM 2011 1(1):13 23). On a cellular level, 50% of zinc is localized in the cytosol, 30
40% in the nucleus and 10% in the membrane. The total Zn2+ concentrations are extremely low in
both the extracellular (100 μM) compartments. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Also rodent studies showed a relationship between dietary zinc deficiency and the development of
depressive behavior. It was found that zinc deficient mice exhibit pro depressive behavior observed as
increased immobility time in the forced swim test (FST) and tail suspension test (TST) (Whittle N.
2009 36(1):147 58; Mlyniec K. 2012 64(2):249 55; Mlyniec K. 2012 64(3):567 75). Furthermore,
these effects were reversed by chronic administration of desipramine (Tamano H. 2009 55,536 541;
Whittle N. 2009 36(1):147 58). Studies performed in rats showed that dietary zinc deficiency induces
anhedonia, social impairments and anxiety like behavior, which are common, co morbid symptoms of
depression (Takeda A. 2007 12;177(1):1 6; Tassabehji NM. 2008 95,365 369) (Doboszewska.......).
Zinc homeostasis is thus important for the proper functioning of the whole organism and zinc levels
must be adjusted properly to keep the cellular processes and biological responses necessary for life.
Zinc transporters are one group of the proteins responsible for the maintaining the adequate level of
zinc in the brain (Hara T 67 2017). Zinc transporters regulate zinc levels by controlling zinc transport
from the extracellular space or from intracellular vesicles to the cytoplasm (ZIP family) or transport of
Zn from the cytosol or influx into intracellular vesicles (ZnT family) (Liuzzi JP., 2004 24:151 72;

Essay about Film Analysis of All That Heaven Allows
Film Analysis of All That Heaven Allows
Chosen sequence: Golden Rain Tree/Cary s bedroom scene.
Before the emergence of auteur theory the director Douglas Sirk was a renowned exponent of classical
Hollywood narrative, particularly in the genre of romantic melodrama, of which his film All That
Heaven Allows is a classic example. However, he is now regarded as a master of mise en scene, one of
the few tools left to a director working within the constraints of the Hollywood studio/institutional
system who is now thought to have been highly critical of American mainstream culture and society in
this prosperous era. 1, 2

But the narrative and mise en scene has already established that she is looking for an alternative
solution, foretelling the problems that lie ahead.
The Golden Rain Tree sequence starts in Cary s bedroom with a match cut on the small branch which
Ron just presented. In itself, this is a typical example of continuity editing used to reinforce the
developing classical narrative the viewer immediately understands that the token from Ron has
assumed a position close to Cary s heart and she has now effectively placed Ron on her dressing table.
This is the type of mise en scene that you would expect to see in this particular genre. The branch
represents not just Ron but also all that he stands for, given his outspoken love of nature and anything
to do with plants. Also, in accordance with a classical narrative, there is a direct cause effect logic in
showing the branch. The viewer knows exactly why the branch is there and who it is from. If the film
had started with this scene, there would be an element of mystery around the branch and who, if
anyone, had presented it. But the film always maintains a classical narrative, with omniscient narration
whereby the viewer always understands the cause effect logic, consolidated by standard continuity
editing with a coherent sequencing of events across space and time.
Having already set out the main protagonists,

Most of us like to think that we are reasonable, rational, and independent thinkers and actors. Thus, we
believe that we have a good enough reason for our choices. However, we often erroneously buy
products succumbing to strange compulsion. It is a power of consumerism. The term consumerism is
defined as the tendency of people to identify strongly with products they consume, particularly of

way of thinking leads to a more is better attitude, the fundamental of materialism. These people are

how marijuana is a drug that only causes harm to ourselves, others, and the nation. We are told that

Hockey Violence Essay
Ice in our Blood and Blood on our Ice
Ice in our Blood and Blood on our Ice
I went to a fight the other night and a hockey game broke out. Rodney Dangerfield. Ever since the
start to the game of hockey, violence has always played a role in the sport. While that role both
contributing positive and negative aspects to the game, violence has taken its toll on not only the
players but the fans as well. As violence in hockey is as many fans say part of the game and what
makes hockey hockey, the negative outcomes overweigh the positive. From fights to brawls, slashes to
high sticks, boarding to head contact the violence surrounds the entire game. As fans cheer and rant at
their full potential when a fight breaks out during a hockey ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Nevertheless, it is difficult to accept that violence is incidental when NHL players who specialize in
fighting, goons or enforcers, are paid a premium for this behavior even though their hockey skills are
marginal and those who refuse to fight are consigned to the minor leagues as punishment.
However, when looking specifically at the economic value that violence is an attribute of the product
intentionally promoted by leagues and teams to increase attendance and profits. The underlying
assumption is that fans have a taste for violence, and violence attracts larger crowds, larger crowds
increase revenue, which, given costs, increases profits. This hypothesis is compatible with the
response of successive NHL presidents when the question of violence is raised: that the league is in
the entertainment business and therefore has to put on a spectacle. It is also consistent with the act of
paying players a premium to fight and the statistical finding that violence and NHL attendance are
positively correlated. While it is quite clear that violence was widespread in hockey before and during
the early years of the NHL, when it was strictly a Canadian game, as some of the classic NHL brawls
have taken place in Canada between Canadian teams, and the largest NHL fan riot occurred in
Montreal.

Economic Inequality And Its Effects On Economic Growth
The rich get richer, and the poor get poorer is an aphorism elicited from the topic of economic
inequality. Over the past decades, economic inequality has been rising and at an increasing rate,
expanding the gap between the rich and the poor. The direct relationship between inequality and
poverty has shown that while inequality increases, so too does poverty. Increased inequality is harmful
for economic growth and its effects also bear social implications. Although there are arguments on the
consequences of wealth redistribution and its unintended impact on economic growth, wealth should
be redistributed to reduce inequality and poverty, sequentially leading to more economic development
and a higher standard of living for society.
Economic inequality occurs in two forms: income inequality and wealth inequality. There remains a
dispute between whether income inequality or wealth inequality should be the focus to reducing
economic inequality. Considerable attention has been given to income disparities, however, it is
important to realize that simply addressing income inequality will not adequately address the gross
disparity between the poor and the ultra rich. For example, Bill Gates is estimated to earn around $7
billion per year (estimates vary wildly depending on how his income is calculated). However, even if
this income was taxed at 100%, Gates would still have in excess of $70 billion in accumulated wealth.
Gates could continue spending a million dollars per day,

Childhood Bulimia Nervosa
Background: Eating disorders such as anorexia, bulimia, and binge eating are life threatening
conditions that affect a person s emotional and physical health. Anorexia nervosa is the intense fear of
gaining weight and having an abnormally low body weight. Individuals restrict the amount of food
they consume. Bulimia Nervosa is eating large amounts of food and getting rid of the extra calories by
force vomiting or misusing laxatives. Abuse during childhood has long been hypothesized to be a risk
factor for the development of eating disorders (Harlow, Rayworth, and Wise, 2004). The purpose of
this study was to assess the association between childhood violence, victimization, and eating
disorders.

Rayworth and others (Rayworth, et al (2004)), the researchers conducted a case control study from
Harvard Study of Moods and Cycles. Women between the age of 36 and 44 in the years of 1995
through 1997 were sampled. The women returned questionnaires providing information on their
menstrual characteristics, current depressive symptoms, and history of major depression. Most studies

without physical abuse was not associated with eating disorders. Women with histories of anorexia or
bulimia and those who met the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, 4th edition,
reported some childhood abuse. Sexual abuse without physical abuse was not associated with eating
disorders, whereas physical abuse without sexual abuse was still associated with a 2 fold increased
risk of eating disorders. The joint effect of both physical and sexual abuse resulted in a 3 fold
increased risk of eating disorder symptoms and a nearly 4 fold increased risk of eating disorders that
met DSM IV criteria. (Rayworth, et all

The Swastika Symbol In The Holocaust
The Swastika; a symbol that is mostly known for its connection to Hitler and the terrible events that
occurred in the Holocaust. The symbol, which has been used for over three thousand years to represent
life, strength, and good luck by Hindus, Buddhists and Jains, started to be used by Germany in the
1800s. In 1920, Adolf Hitler used the symbol of the Swastika to represent his movement, making the
symbol their official flag. Since the use of the flag the swastika has since became a symbol of hate,
violence, death, and murder. People s perspectives of the Swastika symbol have dramatically changed
over the course of many years, leaving people in modern times to question what it really symbolizes.

To a normal tourist or residence from India, the presence of the sacred Hindu symbol would be a well
known figure of well being. But in fact it is almost unimaginable that any individual or group in
another country would use the swastika today without intentionally meaning to draw on the Nazi. In
fact, a court in central Russia has recently ordered a local man to now start covering up during
summertime to conceal his swastika tattoo from public view, which is a public offense under Russian
law, punishable by sanctions that range from a fine to 15 days in prison (Russian, 2014). It is not only
the ordinary person who has caused concern about the symbol in recent years. In 2005, Prince Harry
of Britain created a great amount of controversy when he wore a swastika armband as part of his
Halloween costume which was what initially resulted in the motion for the total ban of the swastika
across Europe (Schmidt, 2005). Companies may not use the simple anymore in fear of similar

Dialogue of Personal Identity and Immortality
In Perry s Dialogue on Personal Identity and Immortality there is a conversation between three
characters that lasted over a period of three nights. The way the dialogue of the conversation was set
up was that each night the topic of the argument will get more intense , tricky and complicated. The
argument against and for immortality between two characters, Gretchen and Sam, and the argument of
Personal Identity, is in a way inviting the reader or audience to the discussion to create their own
thoughts in this discussion. Gretchen doesn t find life after death as possible and challenges Sam to
prove her wrong. In Perry s Dialogue on Personal Identity and Immortality , Gretchen is dying and
used her last days engaging in a philosophical debate with Sam over immortality or life after death.
In this essay , I will present and compare both sides of the debating argument of immortality.
Gretchen Weirob was a philosophy teacher and Sam Miller is her friend. Gretchen decided to spend
her last days debating on whether life after death is possible and on personal identity. There were two
debatable topics involved in this philosophical argument between Sam and Gretchen. They were
immortality and personal identity.
On the First Night, Gretchen challenged Sam to prove to her that life after death is possible, not
probable or likely. According to Gretchen , she believes life after death is impossible based on the
bodily identity theory of Personal identity in which a person is

The Subculture Of Craft Beer
1. What is the subculture s core purpose? What motivates, unifies and drives the members?
It s Friday night in the cosmopolitan city of Cape Town and all the cool, hip young professionals are
out to celebrate the start of the weekend. After doing a tour of the most popular and crowded bars, I
found that all of these partygoers are drinking the same drink: Craft Beer.
As a student of ethnography I was interested in this social phenomenon of craft beer in Cape Town,
and even more so about this subculture of drinkers that would pay more for a craft beer, then a
standard, regular, cheaper beer.
Craft beer in this context refers to beer that has been brewed locally and has not been distributed by

can sample beer and then buy a pint to drink while they shop. This was such a success that they
implemented the same strategy in Whole Foods. The in store taps enable customers to taste different
beers and provide opportunities for customers to meet the brewer; a strategy I believe will work well
in South Africa.
Adventure stores such as Cape Union Mart, Outdoor Warehouse and Due South could also partner

Part B Integrated Summary- Surgical Safety
PART B INTEGRATED SUMMARY SURGICAL SAFETY
The World Health Organisation (WHO) implemented the surgical safety checklist, to minimise the
discrepancies that occur as a result of improper identification of the patient (appendix O post 3).
Improper identification leads to wrong procedure, hence complication and possibly death (Position
Statement Surgical Safety 2015). The WHO checklist helps to improve surgical safety through
confirming safety practices are upheld and developing better communication within the
multidisciplinary team (Position Statement Surgical Safety 2015), thus providing optimum patient
care (ACORN Competency standard 5). Surgery related complication and mortality was reduce by
33%, through a study of eight hospitals from 2007 to 2008 (Position Statement Surgical Safety 2015).
Therefore proving that compliance with safety measure were increased as a result of endorsing the
SSC, and obliges to competency standard 3.3. Through briefing and debriefing, standard of care is
improved, as the whole multidisciplinary team is made aware of the procedure, and allows for optimal
performance, which decrease surgery time, thus improve surgical safety (ACORN Competency
Standard 9). Furthermore it is important that each hospital adapt their own policy in regards to the
type of facility, such as in the occurrence of near miss episode (appendix 1,), institutions must refine
their policy to provide the best care for the patients (Position Statement Surgical Safety 2015).

Definition Of Corporate Social Responsibility
Rogers Telecom s definition of corporate social responsibility is similar to the ISO 26000 in
addressing the seven principle subjects, organizational governance, human rights, labour practices, the
environment, fair operating practices, consumer issues, and community involvement and
development. Although, not all issues belonging to these principles were addressed. The strongest
attributes of the Rogers CSR definition supported by their 2013 CSR report are organizational
governance, fair operating practices, consumer issues, community involvement and development, and
the environment. The weaker attributes of the Rogers CSR definition supported by their 2013 CSR
report are human rights and labour practices. Organizational governance and fair operating practices
were evident in both Rogers Telecom s CSR definition and report as they were frequently mentioned
as an important factor in all business activities. Specifically, Rogers addressed two issues under the
fair operating practices principle, anti corruption and fair competition. Rogers approach in addressing
the issue of anti corruption is to adhere to the Rogers Business Conduct Guidelines, guidelines that
define the expected behaviour from all employees in standards of business conduct, integrity and
ethical behaviour. In addition, Rogers Board of Directors must also comply with these guidelines as
well as a separate, Directors Code of Conduct and Ethics. Furthermore, Roger s combats anti

I m going to compare the use of the poetic devices to portray fear and confusion in 3 different types of
poems, they are; On the Train by Gillian Clarke, Patrolling Barnegat by Walt Whitman, and the poem
Storm on the Island by the one and only Seamus Heaney. These poems all portray the feeling of
confusion, often it is linked within a theme of some war. Walt Whitman uses some repetition to
enhance the power of the storm he is trying to describe. Wild, Wild the storm, and the sea high

The repetition of the word wild in this line helps to enforce the power of the deadly storm and nature.

The wolves howl into silent telephones Here Gillian Clarke is talking about the people that have lost
someone in the crash. She uses a metaphor of a wolf to describe the people trying to contact their
loved ones, only to get silence, or an answer to voice mail. The use of the word howl is vividly
describing the people crying into the phones, desperate to find out how their friends and family are
doing. Gillian Clarke s use of language helps a lot of people who may not have been in the situation
themselves to understand the emotional distress involved. Also, the one thing people think of when
they think of wolves is their distinctive way of howling, which makes this line even more effective.
Walt Whitman uses Personification numerous amount of times in his poem; his clever use of the
technique helps the reader understand his descriptions more easily.
Shouts of demoniac laughter fitfully piercing and pealing In this Whitman compares a storm to one of
the most fear provoking things possible, the words demoniac laughter instantly make you think of
some sort of an evil being, laughing at some destruction that he has caused. This then ties in with the
theme of the storm being uncontrollable. Walt Whitman also uses personification; he says that the
storm is laughing . Obviously a storm cannot laugh, so Whitman is portraying an assumption that the
way the storm seems to enjoy being totally omnipotent. Also Whitman also uses two

The Church As The Good News Of Salvation Essay
Persecution was a continuous problem for the early church as the good news of salvation through
Jesus Christ began to spread. One of the most zealous persecutors of the early church determined to
stop the proliferation of this message was a Pharisee named Saul of Tarsus. Therefore, to demonstrate
that salvation and redemption are for everyone, Jesus called Saul to help spread the Gospel. This
calling was so important that Luke described it three times in Acts. First, in Acts 9:1 30, then again as
Paul speaks before a Jewish crowd in Acts 22:3 21, and finally before Jewish King Agrippa as a
defense given by Paul in Acts 26:2 23. Luke wanted his readers to understand that while Saul of
Tarsus was a zealous persecutor of Christians, his calling/conversion to Christianity causes an
enormous growth in the Christian church.
Saul was born in the city of Tarsus in Cilicia (in modern day Turkey). His parents were Jewish who
possessed Roman citizenship. According to Harrer, his father, or some more distant male ascendant,
must have been made Roman either by the grant of freedom, if he were a slave, or by naturalization, if
he were a free provincial or foreigner This coveted privilege would also extend to Saul. In addition to
being a Roman citizen, Saul s father was a Pharisee which Saul would also eventually become.
It is believed that Saul and his family moved to Jerusalem at some point during Saul s childhood. In
Acts 22:3, Saul comments about Jerusalem being his boyhood home.

This process is started when the patient is still a child, often before any other orthodontic treatment
has begun. However, it can still be performed during later stages of treatment.
Dentofacial orthopedic therapy usually focuses on correcting potential bite and spacial problems by
guiding the growth and development of the jaw. We do this by using orthodontic appliances such as
mouthguards, space maintainers, retainers, expanders, and other devices.
This process is important because it helps to ensure the success of later orthodontic treatment. In some
cases, it can even prevent the need for braces down the road! For instance, if a child s spacing issues
can be resolved while their jaw is still developing and their permanent teeth are still coming in, it may
prevent teeth from becoming crowded and needing braces to straighten them. Even if it doesn t
prevent crowding completely, it will certainly help the later orthodontic treatment to work faster and
more efficiently.

Personal Journey Of Equality In Ayn Rand s Anthem
Anthem by Ayn Rand is a narrative about a young man, named Equality 7 2521, who lives in a
collectivist society. This book is about the personal journey of Equality 7 2521 in a future version of
our society. In this novel, the reader reads about an environment in which everyone is considered as
one, meaning that no one is meant to be an individual. Each person in this society is assigned a certain
job to benefit their brothers and is expected to follow a certain order throughout their lifetime. Helping
their fellow members is also an important rule to their society because it promotes the concept of

Individuality is not tolerated by the society because it represents inequality, which the society does not
wish to be associated with. We are nothing. Mankind is all. By the grace of our brothers are we

kept equal through most of the dialogue and feelings towards the other men. Another example of
equality shown in the novel is that all of the people in the society are expected to follow the rules and
have a part in the same activities as one another. We are one in all and all in one... only the great WE...

which is to exhibit equality by treating everyone equal to the other members. ... there is no

society treat each other equal by acknowledging the transgression of individuality. Their society
believes that individualism is dangerous to their community which results with everything in their life
being based on plurals. For example, everyone in their society is meant to address themselves with the

Age of Exploration Essay 4
The Age of Exploration was a period from the early 1400s and continuing into the early 1600s, during
which European ships traveled around the world to search for new trade routes to feed growing
capitalism in Europe. The most commonly sought after new trade route was to the Spice Islands,
which are now the Indonesian archipelago, in southern Asia. Spices were originally brought to
Western Europe by land routes, but because of a lack cargo space and extremely long travel times the
prices were very high. The advantages of ships were that they had much larger cargo capacities and
were faster than caravans. The obvious solution to get cheaper spices was to carry them by ships.

The Factors Of The Great Fog Of 1952
THE GREAT SMOG OF 1952

A thick fog engulfed London from December 5 to December 9, 1952. It mixed with black smoke
emitted from homes and factories to create a deadly smog. This smog killed approximately 12,000
people and was the catalyst for the introduction of environmental laws.
Smog was a regular occurrence in London, but the smog that formed from Friday 5 December to
Tuesday 9 December 1952 was different. On 5 December during the day, the fog was not particularly
dense. However, during the night it thickened greatly resulting in very low visibility. On the 6th
December, there was not sufficient sunlight to clear the fog. The fog proceeded to intensify its

The problem comes about because both the polluter and the victim think they are justified in their
opinions and actions. As a result of this impasse, the market doesn t find a solution because no one has
the property rights to something like air or noise pollution. The role of the legal system in the Coase
Theorem is to simply decide who gets the property rights. Because bargaining is assumed to be free, it
doesn t matter who gets the property rights. If they are assigned to either the polluter or the victim, the
market will always find an efficient outcome.
IV. APPLYING COASE THEOREM TO THE GREAT SMOG OF 1952
There is a negative externality because the smog clearly causes external damage that is inflicted upon
the general public of London. The factories are not bearing the entire cost of producing their goods
because they are not paying for proper waste disposal. Factories were emitting harmful pollutants into
the atmosphere which has a negative social cost because it was making people ill and causing deaths.
The pollution (smog) is an externality, as the pollution from the factories imposed a cost on people
who may have been neither consumers nor producers of these items. This is a legitimate externality
because the property rights of air are not assigned to anyone. It would be efficient to allow the
factories to pollute if the value of operating the factory was greater than the pollution cost imposed on
the general public in

Examples Of Existentialism In The Blade Runner

Philosophy 2513
26 September 2016
The Metaphysical Problem of Blade Runner Philosophy can be applied to numerous aspects of
existence and life. Existentialism is a popular type of dialogue in philosophy, and it is seen in many
current and past films. Film is a way to present philosophical problems to the general public without
them actually having to put much thought into it. And it is done in a way that entertains them, so
people will be thinking more hypothetically or theoretically than before. Metaphysics is branch of
philosophy and it deals with questions about the nature of reality and the nature of human reality.
Those questions are easily seen in the blade runner. The mind body problem and the problems of
artificial intelligence are also important problems in the blade runner. There are scenes where the the
audience is unsure if the main character, Harrison Ford, is really a human or a replicant himself. There
are also scenes where the replicants are unaware that they are in fact replicants. Of the many

Cultural Heritage And Cultural Culture
Cultural heritage is a testimony to reflect the distinctiveness of a place made by human (English
Heritage, 2009; United Nations of Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization World Heritage
Centre [WHC], 2008). According to Macau Cultural Affairs Bureau (n.d.), Macau has a wealth of
cultural heritage which illustrates the interchange between China and the West such as knowledge,
religions, and social trends. Thus, Macau is listed as Historic Centre of Macau in the World Heritage
List since there is a significant number of cultural heritage built in western style as well as local style
in China. (Macau Cultural Affairs Bureau, n.d.). In 2014, tourist arrival amounts to 31,525,632 and
total spending of visitors is MOP 61.75 billion (Documentation and Information Centre of Statistics
and Census Service, 2015). As a result, cultural tourism promotes the growth of the economy as the
well as the living environment. Therefore, the essay examines the importance of place identity in
heritage conservation and some benefits of cultural tourism. Then, it reflects some challenges in the
sustainability of heritage management. Finally, it explains how community engagement contributes
the viability of heritage conservation. Heritage conservation illustrates the place diversity of the place
which convinces the community to recognise their place identity. According to the World Heritage

The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), the National Security Agency (NSA), the military, and
others collaborate on many issues and concerns, counterintelligence being an example. The CIA has
no judicial or law enforcement powers, and is not allowed to perform domestic intelligence gathering.
The CIA is absolutely prohibited from any internal security functions. In addition, it is imperative to
understand that the CIA has no hand in policy making; it only provides information and action on
specific policies (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Central_Intelligence_Agency). An excerpt from the
Values statement of the CIA, from www.cia.gov, states: Our success depends on our ability to act with
total discretion and an ability to protect sources and methods. The CIA also states, We provide
objective, unbiased information and analysis. We stand by one another and behind one another.
Service, sacrifice, flexibility, teamwork, and quiet patriotism are our hallmarks. (www.cia.gov).

With the beginning of slavery in the 1600s, to becoming the main cause of the Civil War and abolishment of it, here is slavery; from the Union s point of view. The earliest form of slavery in North America can be traced back to Jamestown, Virginia in 1619. There, they were called the Twenty and Odd and considered servants rather than slaves. Though little is known about this infamous event, this trade continued of capturing Africans from Africa and bringing them to the colonies of Britain. The usage of slaves increased and were often used as field laborers on plantations, house workers, blacksmiths ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... They had more supplies, better outfits and an efficient way to make weapons compared to the South. By the end of the war, there were roughly 198,000 African Americans in the Civil War. This was a controversy for not only some of the Union who refused to fight alongside an African American, but also for the South who would see them in combat. There were disputes among both sides over the Union taking slaves from the South and ultimately rescuing them. Though the North claimed it was legal, considering slaves were property and both sides were allowed to raid and confiscate property from each other. This was particular accomplishment on the Union s half, for it took the Confederate s words and used them against them. The Union won the war and slavery was officially abolished with the thirteenth amendment in 1865. This great accomplishment brought America one step closer to equality, though there is still work to be done today in the Western World. • 4. What It Means To Be Grateful What does it mean to be grateful? Why do we need to be grateful? As a Christian why is it important to be grateful? Based on what we have done for the past week, which is writing down what we were grateful each day, I have learned to look at life a little differently. Gratitude is not just an expression. It is not temporary feeling. I have learned that gratitude is something much more permanent and everlasting. Gratitude is a genuine feeling that can help you look at the world in a whole new beautiful world. Gratitude can make this ugly world beautiful. In the week where I was inputting into a journal what I am grateful for, has been a week of pure joy and amazement. I was able to look at my day and really reflect on what effect of what people have on me and what effect I have on them. For example, on Saturday I wrote that someone held my door without me realizing it. I was just really grateful that someone took their time out of their day just to provide that act of service in my life. • 5. Cultural Competence And The Media Cultural competence has been a heavy topic throughout class, the way we view different races, cultures, and walks of life generates from the way these groups are portrayed in the media. If we never get a chance to have direct contact with those from other walks of life, we began to group these different races or cultures together and think everyone is the same way as those we see in movies and on television. Although, we heavily discussed Latinos who have migrated to the states, we rarely touched on the third and largest immigrant group to come from Europe. The Italian Americans who came to the U.S. and made a way for not only themselves, but for their families as well. Their stories are not as picture perfect as some we see today and if the media has the chance to tell the story, they all have in some way had a hand in organized crime. Over the years, the media has taken the success and profits that have come from mob movies and have turned the Italian mob lifestyle into a money making gimmick. The making of mob movies is not as prominent during today s time in comparison to previous years, but with the lack of movies has come an increase in television shows that are based on the true stories of famous mobsters from the past. With shows like Making the Mob: New York Chicago , Mafia s Greatest Hits , and the fictional show The Sopranos just to name a few, it shows that a fascination for the mobster lifestyle is still very strong today. They were called enlightened despots. Catherine the Great was one of those rulers. She had many great ideas and was seen by most of her people as a friend of Enlightenment. However, she had a greater desire to be views as an enlightened leader, rather than actually being one. • 7. Misandry Feminism Feminism. In today s modern age, when most people hear that word, they cringe and think of ugly, hairy women ejecting hatred towards men, women that think they are subordinate and higher than every man out there, and women that desire nothing more than to emasculate the opposite sex. If they took the time to educate themselves, they could learn that feminism and misandry are two very different words. As Oxford dictionary describes it, Misandry is a hatred of men while Feminism is the equality of the sexes. With phrases like Women s turn to dominate! and All men are pigs! I can understand why some people think that misandry equates to feminism. To encourage dialogue between men and women in addressing these issues, there must be an end in viewing feminists as misandrists. Instead of empowering all genders, it puts them down. The misconception about feminism comes from a lack of understanding what feminists goals are. The main goal being gender equality. To achieve economic and social equality, we must acknowledge the three reasons why it is still relevant today; gender roles, the wage gap, and rape culture. Ever since the Seneca Falls Convention in 1848, the first convention for women s rights in the Unites States, feminism has become an essential movement that our world needs to progress. This convention was a movement that was organized by two abolitionists who met at the 1840 World Anti Slavery Convention in London, Lucretia Mott and Elizabeth Cady ... Many people were accused of being witches some of these people were accused of being witches for not following Christian beliefs at that time and others followed witch prosecutions for goods and money. Furthermore, the stereotypes of witches at this period also had a role in causing witch prosecutions. In this essay I argue how these three components led to the death of so called witches. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is important to understand the meaning of witchcraft to be able to identify what caused the massive witch hunt in Europe. During the medieval to the early modern period witchcraft was identified as the practice of harmful, black or maleficent magic caused by a witch (Levack, 1987, p. 4). They also describe them as evildoers that associate with the Devil, kidnap children, and murder others. These accusations were untrue rumors made by the Catholic Church to promote Christianity and punish those who did not follow the church beliefs. (Levack, 1987, p. 7) Furthermore, Witches were commonplace all over the world with different stigmas and stereotypes attached to them from each respectful culture that contained them (Girard, 1986). It was not until the rise of the Catholic Church that witches soon became associated with black magic and the Devil, leading to mass prosecutions. In the Middle Ages there was a popular belief that demons walked the Earth, leaving disease and devastation in their wake. The church, feeling threatened by the ideologies of Witchcraft, decided to link the old Pagan religion with that of Satanism (Levack, 1987). By doing so, they were able to gather favor from the masses by taking advantage of the fear of the Devil by the public and using it to prosecute those who ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Empty Tomb Between how the empty tomb was discovered, who discovered it, who told the discoverers where Jesus had gone, there were many differences in these stories details pertaining to this. Another vast difference came in the reactions to what the storytellers told the disciples and who Jesus appeared to in regards to getting others to believe what has happened. Matthew 27, the crucifixion was one that is very familiar to many Christians; this story doesn t often stray from its basis. The one new thing I did learn was that two rebels were executed with Him and even they cursed Jesus name at the time. One of my favorite differences between Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John were when the message of Jesus resurrection was told to people. Between the angel, the young man with a white robe, two men in gleaming robes, or Jesus himself, the stories all came from a different perspective but for the most part were very similar and that specifically was interesting to research. The angel said to the women, Do not be afraid, for I know that you are looking for Jesus, who was crucified. He is not here; He has risen, just as He said. Come and see the place where He lay.... In this encounter, Mary and Mary Magdalene both approached the tomb but was confronted by this angel on the closed tomb who told them the fate of Jesus. The main aim of treatment of GDM patient is to ensure the blood glucose level of a GDM pregnant woman is equal to those normal pregnant women that do not have GDM. The first line therapy in the management of GDM involves lifestyle modification and medical nutrition therapy. Based on the trigger, the patient is overweight. Thus, she needs nutritional counseling from a registered dietitian in order to help her to manage her weight. Imagine yourself being unable to obtain the recognition of your parents your whole life and leaving this world as a nobody. The writings of Franz Kafka not only spoke of the absurdity of life, but also about who he was. They told about what type of human being he was, and how he was feeling. You can see this in both of his well known short stories, A Hunger Artist and The Metamorphosis. I believe that there is a personal link between author and character and that it can be found in most of his works. Franz Kafka was born on July 3, 1883, in Prague. The writer grew up in a middle class Jewish family and studied law at the University of Prague. By the time Kafka was six he had lost his two younger brothers, they were only infants, leaving Franz as the only boy in the family. This tragedy shaped the family for the rest of their lives. The underlying assumption is that fans have a taste for violence, and violence attracts larger crowds, larger crowds increase revenue, which, given costs, increases profits. This hypothesis is compatible with the response of successive NHL presidents when the question of violence is raised: that the league is in the entertainment business and therefore has to put on a spectacle. Over the past decades, economic inequality has been rising and at an increasing rate, expanding the gap between the rich and the poor. The direct relationship between inequality and poverty has shown that while inequality increases, so too does poverty. Increased inequality is harmful for economic growth and its effects also bear social implications. Although there are arguments on the consequences of wealth redistribution and its unintended impact on economic growth, wealth should be redistributed to reduce inequality and poverty, sequentially leading to more economic development and a higher standard of living for society. Economic inequality occurs in two forms: income inequality and wealth inequality. There remains a dispute between whether income inequality or wealth inequality should be the focus to reducing economic inequality. Considerable attention has been given to income disparities, however, it is important to realize that simply addressing income inequality will not adequately address the gross disparity between the poor and the ultra rich. For example, Bill Gates is estimated to earn around $7 billion per year (estimates vary wildly depending on how his income is calculated). Dialogue of Personal Identity and Immortality In Perry s Dialogue on Personal Identity and Immortality there is a conversation between three characters that lasted over a period of three nights. The way the dialogue of the conversation was set up was that each night the topic of the argument will get more intense , tricky and complicated. The argument against and for immortality between two characters, Gretchen and Sam, and the argument of Personal Identity, is in a way inviting the reader or audience to the discussion to create their own thoughts in this discussion. Gretchen doesn t find life after death as possible and challenges Sam to prove her wrong. In Perry s Dialogue on Personal Identity and Immortality , Gretchen is dying and used her last days engaging in a philosophical debate with Sam over immortality or life after death. In this essay , I will present and compare both sides of the debating argument of immortality. Gretchen Weirob was a philosophy teacher and Sam Miller is her friend. Gretchen decided to spend her last days debating on whether life after death is possible and on personal identity. There were two debatable topics involved in this philosophical argument between Sam and Gretchen. They were immortality and personal identity. On the First Night, Gretchen challenged Sam to prove to her that life after death is possible, not probable or likely. It s Friday night in the cosmopolitan city of Cape Town and all the cool, hip young professionals are out to celebrate the start of the weekend. After doing a tour of the most popular and crowded bars, I found that all of these partygoers are drinking the same drink: Craft Beer. As a student of ethnography I was interested in this social phenomenon of craft beer in Cape Town, and even more so about this subculture of drinkers that would pay more for a craft beer, then a standard, regular, cheaper beer. The in store taps enable customers to taste different beers and provide opportunities for customers to meet the brewer; a strategy I believe will work well in South Africa. Part B Integrated Summary- Surgical Safety PART B INTEGRATED SUMMARY SURGICAL SAFETY The World Health Organisation (WHO) implemented the surgical safety checklist, to minimise the discrepancies that occur as a result of improper identification of the patient (appendix O post 3). The WHO checklist helps to improve surgical safety through confirming safety practices are upheld and developing better communication within the multidisciplinary team (Position Statement Surgical Safety 2015), thus providing optimum patient care (ACORN Competency standard 5). Surgery related complication and mortality was reduce by 33%, through a study of eight hospitals from 2007 to 2008 (Position Statement Surgical Safety 2015). • 31. The Church As The Good News Of Salvation Essay Persecution was a continuous problem for the early church as the good news of salvation through Jesus Christ began to spread. One of the most zealous persecutors of the early church determined to stop the proliferation of this message was a Pharisee named Saul of Tarsus. Therefore, to demonstrate that salvation and redemption are for everyone, Jesus called Saul to help spread the Gospel. This calling was so important that Luke described it three times in Acts. First, in Acts 9:1 30, then again as Paul speaks before a Jewish crowd in Acts 22:3 21, and finally before Jewish King Agrippa as a defense given by Paul in Acts 26:2 23. Luke wanted his readers to understand that while Saul of Tarsus was a zealous persecutor of Christians, his calling/conversion to Christianity causes an enormous growth in the Christian church. Saul was born in the city of Tarsus in Cilicia (in modern day Turkey). His parents were Jewish who possessed Roman citizenship. According to Harrer, his father, or some more distant male ascendant, must have been made Roman either by the grant of freedom, if he were a slave, or by naturalization, if he were a free provincial or foreigner This coveted privilege would also extend to Saul. In addition to being a Roman citizen, Saul s father was a Pharisee which Saul would also eventually become. Spices were originally brought to Western Europe by land routes, but because of a lack cargo space and extremely long travel times the prices were very high.
