Case Study Of Carley s Angels
Carley s Angels Carley s Angels is a organization to financially help families with children in need of
life saving treatments and therapies. Carley Allison passed away with Clear Cell Sarcoma in her
trachea on March 31st, 2015, she was only 19 years old when she died. Clear Cell Sarcoma is a rare
cancer that only affects one in every 3.5 billion, said ireport.cnn.com. When Carley had found out
what she had and why she was sick, she didn t care, she still prospered like nothing ever happened.
She was a competitive figure skater that traveled, a singer and songwriter and was noticed by many,
including Selena Gomez, who told her to Stay strong and don t give up. Carley had gone through a lot
but the one thing she never did was give up. Carley s Angels should be supported because we all need
to raise awareness for what has happened, and help the doctors and families by donating to this
charity. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When she had got diagnosed, she was only the second known case. The doctors didn t really know
what to do and when they first seen her they passed her with asthma. They only figured out that she
had Clear Cell Sarcoma when she got worse and eventually fainted because she couldn t breathe, we
shouldn t want that to happen to anybody else. Clear Cell Sarcoma might be rare but it can happen to
anybody, they don t know really what caused her to get the cancer, and they didn t know what to give
her to help her. Carley had went through remission and they said that all the cancer was gone, but it
wasn t it grew back and it got worse. She had went through six rounds of chemo, tracheal surgery, and
had 32 days of high intensity radiation to try and cure the cancer (Carley, teamcarley.ca). Cancer does

The Attack Of Pearl Harbor
On December 7, 1941 the world was embroiled into the attack of Pearl Harbor in Hawaii. Japan
attacked Pearl Harbor with their ally, Nazi Germany. It started with Japan being a bit suspicious and
not so thrilled with the Treaty of Versailles as it was seen as a way to keep everything in ship shape
even if there were some disagreements in the world. The attack of Pearl Harbor could have been
prevented if America had not forced them to trade, had not moved the Pacific Fleet in California, and
by not provoking them by doing terrible things to Japan. To start off, the attack could have been
prevented if America did not force them to trade. In document B it states, Japan believed in
isolationism until pressured by the United States to open ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In document C, it says President Roosevelt moves US Pacific fleet from California to Pearl Harbor .
This was on the timeline in 1940. Also on the timeline just one year later was the attack on Pearl
Harbor. This proves that by them moving the Fleet it helped them be able to attack because it was
even closer to them now, and at easy reach. In document E it reads How can we let the United States
do as she pleases, even though there is some uneasiness? This shows how Japan infact did have a
problem with America s behavior and was trying to stop it, because it was not fair for them. Overall, if
America had kept their Pacific Fleet in the same place, it would have been harder for Japan to start
war with them and actually fulfil their wishes of not having America controlling them with such things
as trade, and actually much more... Some people might say the war couldn t be stopped because Japan
already had a lot on western imperialism, however, sure they did not agree with it but they wanted to
stay pure and isolated, so they didn t really care what was happening outside of Japan. Once again,
document B states, Japan believed in isolationism until pressured by the United States to open itself up
to trade . America caused Japan to be disrupted and brought the war on themselves. To conclude, if
The U.S. didn t mess with Japan to start off, there wouldn t have been a war because Japan did not
care about the United States until then.
Lastly, if America stopped

The Environmental Consequences And Effects Of Climate Change
Climate change is a serious environmental issue which influences changes in temperature, humidity,
air quality, precipitation, and land surface wetness across the globe (Institute of Medicine [IOM],
2011). Small changes in these factors can snowball into larger and potentially disastrous outcomes in
climate and weather. For example, the 1.5°F increase in the average global temperature during the past
century has been accompanied by serious environmental consequences such as an increase in floods,
droughts, heavy rainfall, and more frequent and intense heat waves (Environmental Protection Agency
[EPA], n.d.). Over the next century, the increase in the Earth s average temperature is predicted to rise
by another 0.5 to 8.6°F (EPA, n.d.). The risk for additional severe changes to the Earth s system is
projected to increase, as well as the potential harm to the health of the global population (World
Health Organization [WHO], 2009). One way through which this is expected to occur is through
climate change affecting the indoor environment by creating favorable conditions for the growth of
mold, ultimately harming inhabitants respiratory health (IOM, 2011). According to a report by the
Institute of Medicine s Committee on the Effect of Climate Change on Indoor Air Quality and Public
Health, climate change induced alterations to the outdoor environment are likely to affect the indoor
environment, and as a result, the health of its inhabitants (2011). Climate change has increased the
frequency and intensity of heavy rainfall and hurricane events, leading to more breakdown of
buildings, leaks and infiltration of water into the indoor environment, and flooding (IOM, 2011). The
issue of indoor dampness and flooding lies in the creation of favorable conditions for the growth of
mold. Moisture level has been shown to be the primary factor responsible for indoor mold growth
(IOM, 2011). Exposure to mold is associated with various respiratory symptoms, such as coughing,
wheezing, asthma exacerbation, and shortness of breath in vulnerable individuals (IOM, 2011). This
combination of climate change and the subsequent increase in mold growth and exposure raises
concerns for health, particularly the health of those with existing

Lab Report On The Heat Of Neutralization
Introduction: Every chemical change is accompanied by a change in energy usually in the form of
heat. If heat is evolved, the reaction is exothermic, and if heat is absorbed, the reaction is endothermic.
The energy change of a reaction that occurs at constant pressure is called the heat of reaction or the
enthalpy of reaction (ΔHr). This quantity of heat is measured experimentally by allowing the reaction
to occur in a calorimeter. In this experiment you will determine the heat of neutralization when an acid
and a base react to form 1 mole of water. In a perfect calorimeter, heat is exchanged only between the
reaction and the calorimeters water. Technically, some heat may may be absorbed the calorimeter. All
calorimeters exchange some heat with its environment. This amount of heat is called the calorimeters
heat capacity (the amount of of heat required to raise its temperature 1∘Celsius). We are going to
pretend that our calorimeter is the perfect calorimeter.
Purpose: You will determine the molar heat of neutralization of 1.00 M HCL and 1.00 M NaOH in
Kilojoules.
Materials:
Goggles Graduated cylinder Drying wand Calorimeter Acid and base Thermometer Beaker to transfer
liquids Paper cups
Procedure:
Carefully measure 75 of 1.0 M NaOH in a 100 ml graduated cylinder and pour it into the calorimeter.
Leaving the thermometer out, place the top on the calorimeter. Rinse the graduated cylinder with some
tap water. Then rinse the graduated cylinder with some about 10.0 ml of the 1.0 M HCl. Completely
dry the graduated cylinder with a paper towel drying wand. Carefully measure 6.25 ml of the 1.0 M
HCl. Leaving the HCl in the graduated cylinder measure the initial temperature of acid. 27.8∘C Rinse
the thermometer with tap water and dry. Insert the thermometer in the calorimeters top and measure
the initial temperature of the base 28.2∘C Carefully add all of the acid to the base in the calorimeter
being careful not to splash any acid on the upper sides of the calorimeter. Stir the mixture gently with
the thermometer observing the temperature every 15 seconds for the next 2 minutes. Seconds: 15s: 31,

Pro Abortion (Anti Abortion Rebuttal) Essay
Pro Abortion
Abortion is defined as the expulsion of a fetus by a pregnant female before the normal end of a
pregnancy. Many times and in most cases, specifically in the article titled ABORTION by
Jimmyissmart on oppapers.com, abortion is seen as an act of violence and inhumane murder. It is
mainly for this reason why people who are anti abortion support their point of view. However, to
murder the victim must first be alive, but what is the meaning of life? According to dictionary.com life
is defined as the sum of the distinguishing phenomena of organisms, esp. metabolism, growth,
reproduction and adaptation to environment. Hence, a fetus can not be alive because it lacks the ability
to adapt to its environment, a fetus does not have ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In some cases women who abort pregnancies do it because at that specific moment in their life they
are just not ready for a baby but look forward to having one at a later date in their life. Surgery for one
is costly and secondly and most importantly once a sterilization of a female is complete it is highly
unlikely for this process to be reversed. In the case that a responsible female takes the proper
precautions by using a condom or taking a pill and still ends up with an unwanted pregnancy should
she drop out of school get a job at McDonalds work for minimum wage and raise a baby in poverty or
should she post pone her getting a baby get an education first then, when she is more capable to raise
and manage a happy and healthy baby do so?
Thirdly, Rape is a big excuse for people who are for abortion. Women who become pregnant through
rape and even incest rape suffer the most severe form of emotional tragedy. Should they still go
through with having that child even though they may be at a time in their life where a child may
completely destroy their life and also the fact that, that child will be the embodiment of that one
moment in their life that they try to forget? One of the underlying themes in Jimmyissmart s paper is
humanity. However, how ironic is

How To Teach Literacy
When it comes to teaching literacy, there can be some confusion because there are several things this
one little word encompasses. Literacy has long been known as the ability to read and write but it has
recently expanded to include things like computer literacy and competence of other things as well.
For most, the process of becoming literate begins in early childhood. It starts by parents and siblings
and sometimes even babysitters, nannies or teachers who speak to and around an individual,
introducing them to the language of their people. Sometimes this talking to takes place in the form of
reading aloud, which is a great way to instill a love of reading, but still does not teach the child how to
read.
In teaching literacy, there

Throughout women in colonial America, Anne Bradstreet was one of the strongest and influential
figures of the time. Mrs. Bradstreet lived from the years 1612 through 1672 not knowing she would

Managers Or Leaders For Hospitality Industry Face Diverse...
Managers or leaders in hospitality industry face diverse challenges in today challenges and changing
environment. They represent a kind of bridge bringing closer people in workplace and involve the
ability to reach the business s goals and success. While multitudes of researches show that managers
or leaders exhibit of certain traits alone does not guarantee leadership success, there are some key
characteristics that draw an effective leader: drive, charismatic, inspirational motivation, intellectually

These five aspects show that certain trait alone do not guarantee leadership success. Leaders, who
have the achievement trait, engages the passion to complete challenging tasks, attaining standards of
excellence and drive individual team members from inner levels. High achievers obtain establishing a
set or a system of technical expertise regarding the significance due to which the results are to be
achieved. Achievement in hospitality allow establishment to improve the profit as well as business
goal. Intercontinental goals are focusing on making their brands as the first choice for guests and hotel
owners. Similarly, Hilton goal is the preeminent global hospitality company . Moreover, Walt Disney
the founder of Walt Disney Production has been described as a dogged determination to succeed
(Kirkpatrick Locke, 1991), brings us to another important trait: ambition. Some researches define
ambition as a strong desire to achieve, the persistent and generalized striving for success. This differs
from the high achievement people because ambitious people value more the rewards of their
competencies in task performance and this allows leaders to perform hard and challenging goals for
themselves. The third aspect of drive trait is energy. The effective leader is capable of working in
conditions that are ranked among complex situations and long working hours. This not only requires
individual to have physically strong but also

Sugar Hill Gang Rapper s Delight
The first item I searched was a popular hip hop album Sugar Hill Gang Rapper s Delight. I
immediately noticed John Fryer had a more subjective way to selling this item. In the description, he

objective, offering only facts about said album lacking personality, in turn, feeling cold. Listing things
to include the credits and company in which originally recorded what some call the album to start it

insight to his personality. The seller on eBay only offered hard facts nothing to grab the reader I would

Reality television is suggesting that surveillance can be fun! .
Voyeurism. A voyeur is a peeping tom. Many commentators believe that reality television has moved
beyond surveillance into voyeurism. Audiences are positioned as peeping toms who gain pleasure

Short Sale Is The Sale Of A Stock
According to the provisions of the US Securities and Exchange Commission, A short sale is the sale of
a stock that an investor does not own or a sale which is consummated by the delivery of a stock
borrowed by, or for the account of, the investor. It is usually performed to profit from an expected
decline in the price of a financial instrument. Typically, the short seller will borrow the securities to be
sold, and later repurchase identical securities for return to the lender. Short selling can be divided into
two types: covered short selling where the seller has made arrangements to borrow the securities
before the sale and naked short selling where the seller has not borrowed the securities when the short

The lack of information on short positions also means that regulators cannot properly monitor short

actions on restrictions on short sale. After 2008 financial crisis, most countries introduced in
emergency measures of intervention in the short selling. Among these measures, information

have more attention by the public.
For example, UK has taken actions with regard to short selling restrictions and disclosure

Comparing The Iliad And The Odyssey
This short essay will identify five traditional epic characteristics that are evident in both the Iliad and
the Odyssey.
The first epic characteristic evident in both epics is catalogs and genealogies. For instance, Book VIII
of the Odyssey features a list of participants in the game (115 125) and the Iliad Book II features a
catalog of ships (484 759).
Secondly, both epics start in media res. The Odyssey starts ten years after the Trojan War and the Illiad
starts nine years after the start of the war.
Thirdly, the Muses are prayed to for inspiration to tell the story, which can be observed in the Iliad
Book I (1 9) and in the Odyssey Book I (1 31).
Fourthly, the main characters also give long formal speeches. For instance, in Book XI of the Iliad,
Hector rallies his men with a long speech after Agamemnon is carried off the field (248 291).
Similarly, there are extended speeches between Telemachus and the suitors, which compile Book II of
the Odyssey.
Finally, there is intervention of gods or machinery in both epics. For Odysseus , Poseidon s divine
intervention kept him from returning home for several years. Similarly, one of many examples of
divine intervention exists fairly in the beginning of the Iliad, when Apollo responds to Chryses appeal
to strike the Greek armies with plague.
In conclusion, five traditional epic characteristics that are evident in both the Iliad and the Odyssey
have been identified in the paragraphs above.

The Mechanics And Technicality Based Conceptual...
Module three was probably the most complex modules that we have encountered this semester for me.
I viewed this module as the mechanics and technicality based conceptual understanding of consumer
behavior. We recognize that consumer behavior isn t just static, but is much more in tune with the
complexity that is the Human mind. This module to me represented the consumer coming to the final
stage of the consumption process and becoming aware that a final decision is eminent. When I look
back at my purchases I think how much went into buying an item or service and actually getting to
that point where I have made that final purchase. It s interesting the one thing that spurs my whole
consumption process is when I have told myself that I really want something, I need something, or I
have to have something. This self awareness is what even allows the consumer to know what
specifically they want to purchase. If we don t have this identifying behavior then product selection
ends up being a moot point. My purchases are filled with items that were to serve a specific need or
want. I usually identified this need and began the evaluative process. This process can be easily
influenced through a multitude of different situational characteristics that are both intended and
unintended. There are characteristics that the store or organization will try to put out and the portion
that comes from product and consumer habits. I think for me as I look at the products I buy and the
places I go

Positive Illusions And Negative Illusions
Positive illusions are unrealistic, biased attitudes that individuals have about themselves and towards
other individuals, normally close friends or family members. Positive illusions is a perception that
represents what is perceived in a way different from the way it is in reality. An illusion is a false
mental image or conception which may be a misinterpretation of a real appearance or may be
something imagined. It may be pleasing, harmless or even useful (Stein, 1982, p 662). The more
positive illusions the higher self esteem an individual has. It should be noted that positive illusions are
more common in western countries than other parts of the world. Research has found that positive
illusions promote a better mental health. There ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Illusion of control is the distorted opinion of the individual s personal control over different types of
situations. These individuals believe they have control over the roll of a dice or the flip of a coin. An
example of illusion of control is when a gambler thinks they can control the dice being rolled or the
next card to be flipped over.
Question 2
Approximately 117 Americans die every day to suicide and for every suicide there is 25 other
unsuccessful attempts (Suicide Statistics, 2016). The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention
says that suicide is the 10th leading cause of deaths in the USA and that 42773 American dies every
year. Research shows that suicide happens to any race, gender or age.
The belief is that people who talk about suicided aren t really going to go through with it; this belief is
completely false. Often suicidal people make subtle hints leading up to the event. Some subtle hints
include: I know where my dad s gun is if I ever need it, I have the perfect plan to end it all, I wonder
what that chemical taste like or, I wonder what it feels like to bleed out and leave forever. Others often
discuss their depression and how there isn t anything to live for. Another false belief is suicide cannot
be prevented. If an individual gets help early enough for the depression and suicidal thought Suicide

Race To Equality Essay
Race to Equality
In 1959, 55.1% of the black population were living in poverty. (Historical Statistics of the United
States: Millennial Edition) It is known that colored people were not privileged, or even treated
respectably as human, until the civil rights movement took place. Many situations were found where
judgment among humans of a different race, other than white, were unfair. Three cases in the Supreme
Court concerning colored races were unjustly ruled during the Civil Rights movement: Swann v.
Charlotte Mecklenburg Board of Education, Loving v. Virginia, Regents of the University of

Regents of the University of California v. Bakke was a case that encouraged equality throughout the

Essay On Old Man s Cave
Old Man s Cave
This intrinsic formation of expansive foliage, stone and soil showcase what can be offered in the form
of natural beauty bolstered in part by a creation of a seamlessly interwoven trail, taking many forms it
will follow throughout the musty voids of cool stone, past the crashing flow of waterfalls, and into the
expanse of lumbering cedar giants. Natural formations of rock with stunning depth and size introduce
a smooth, chiseled out staircase, of solid gray stone, which leads downward into grooved out tunnel of
stone running through the earth. The solid walls are rough and uneven, with an oozing stability.
Running a finger across may yield a feeling of minor abrasion, with a small, distinct scraping heard.

Some small trees are toward the top, growing out from the cracks in the side of the wall, they defy the
comforts that the ground may bring. As the the path starts to decline, it begins shifting toward the
direction of the valley. Running water can be heard, flowing in a manner of constant control and
power, slowing only at certain times of the seasons. To the left, a waterfall can be partially seen
roaring with a vigorous energy, cascading down the rock, plummeting into a shallow pool of water.
The pool attempts to engulf three large boulders sitting on the outskirts, only able to claim their
undersides. Further, a bridge comes into view, standing proud, with a solid construction of rock and
mortar. On each side it offers a wall, both of which rise to protect from the drop below, with the left
side forming a connection to the stone wall that preceded them. The path continues on, its convex
shape of smooth stone created, suspended in the air. It finds little to care about the stream below,
which meekly runs off to connect to the main pool. As the waterfall finds itself in full view, it is
proudly able to show off the full might it possesses. Continuing, the path soon finds itself at the
beginning of a new set of stairs. The stairs are a bit more deteriorated and uneven, showing lots of
cracks and moss. They hug around a corner of exposed rock with a smaller, aging stone wall built to
its right side. The stone wall, built mostly by a past construction, was

White Noise Religion
Don DeLillo s novel White Noise explores the relativity of religion in the modern world by
conceiving a world in which religion is entirely changed. Traditional aspects of religion, specifically
Christianity, are rarely, if at all, present in this novel. Does DeLillo believe that religion is relativity in
our modern society? Or is he pushing the boundaries by creating a distorted reality in which American
culture is the primary religion? This question is initially exemplified in White Noise when it states: It s
not what I believe that counts. It s what you believe (318). This paper will analyze White Noise s
introduction and examination into religion; in an attempt uncover an answer to the question, is

Jack distances himself from traditional religion when he states: Watching children sleep makes me feel
devout, part of a spiritual system. It is the closest I can come to God (141). By stating this, Jack
identities traditional religion as an obscure practice that he has no access to. Modern society proves
not only unconquerable but also unconditionally opposed to the practices and ideals of traditional
religion, which encourages humans that it is possible to believe in a higher power. Even the clergy,
who are supposedly the most devout followers of religion, only pretend to believe. In turn, the clergy s
acceptance of religion exaggerates and evolves into a form of resigned impersonation. This notion
becomes evident when Jack discusses religion with Sister Hermann Marie: To abandon such beliefs
completely, the human race would die. This is why we are here. A tiny minority. To embody old
things, old beliefs... If we did not pretend to believe these things, the world would collapse (318). Jack
s absurd encounters with the clergy, illustrate DeLillo perspective that traditional is a laughable
illusion. Religion is no longer seen as something revered and adored. Even the clergy s connection to
God is not highly emphasized; there is a clear gap between traditional religion and its relativity in our

reasons behind why each man is considered a hero in his own right and who the rightful owner to the
title of the play truly belongs to. There have been countless tragic heroes in the works of William

The French New Wave Cinema
French New Wave cinema is widely considered one of the most influential periods in cinematic
history. The filmmaking techniques and ideas utilized during the French New Wave period can still be
seen in modern cinema, with some films uses them more than others. Two films that more obviously
been influenced by the era are Quentin Tarantino s 1992 film Reservoir Dogs and Christopher Nolan s
2000 film Memento. These films exude many traits and styles synonymous with French New Wave
cinema such as jump cuts and non continuity editing, a low budget, anti heroic main characters, as
well as others.
French New Wave was a cinematic movement that was active between the late 1950 s and the late
1960 s though the origins go back to german occupied France from the early 1940 s. Following the
liberation of 1944, France saw the end of restrictions of media imposed by german occupation and the
cinema became more popular than ever, with a stockpile of banned American films starting to flow in
and France ramping up film production once again. Despite this by the early 1950 s it became more
popular opinion by both critics and audiences that had become, for a lack of a better word, stale,
getting bogged down in an endless cycle of generic historical reconstructions and uninspired literary
adaptations... French Cinema was said to be in desperate need of a new direction (Neupert, 17).
During this time the film magazine, Cahiers du Cinema, was founded. Some of its young writers, such

The Great Depression And Its Effects On America
The Great Depression was an incredibly dull time in the historical backdrop of the United States,
impacting all the financial assets of the American lifestyle. The Great Depression shattered the
financial status of the United States. President Roosevelt has been known for sparing the U.S out of
the financial turmoil it found itself in from the Great Depression. The causative components of the
Great Depression are still up for debate by many students of history and economics. For some
individuals, the period s decline is credited to the stock market crash of 1929. The Great Depression
started in 1929 and went on until 1939. This monetary collapse influenced Western industrialized
economies but its effects ranged across different countries. The Great Depression started in the United
States, which unfortunately encountered the worst repercussions. Conversely, many contend that the
Depression began about 10 years prior in Europe however the United States foreseen that it was
insusceptible to such a recession. Thus, the American government around that time did not generate
laws to guarantee that the nation did not encounter the same collapse as Europe. The most important
causes of the Great Depression were the stock market crash, bank failures, environmental disasters,
and international trade. This paper should examine the possible clarifications of the Great Depression
and its impact.

The Winter s Tale By William Shakespeare
In the play The Winter s Tale by William Shakespeare, exists two different types of characters:
dynamic characters, meaning characters who change throughout the play by learning and growing
through their experiences, and static characters, meaning characters that stagnate from the beginning
to end. In particular, the most dynamic character in the play is King Leontes of Sicilia. In the
beginning, Leontes believes in the self assumed belief that his wife, Queen Hermione, is having affairs
with his childhood friend, King Polixenes of Bohemia. This belief was conspired by Leontes when he
requested Hermione to convince Polixenes to prolong his visit in Sicilia after he himself had failed.
When she did succeed, Leontes became diseased with jealousy and came to the assumption that
Hermione and Polixenes have a special relationship together. With the authorial power he possesses as
king, he sentenced his pregnant wife to prison for adultery. Though Hermione persists that he is wrong
and there is a misunderstanding, Leontes, however, denies everything she says. In this, Leontes is seen
as a stubborn tyrant who abuses his divine power as king to treat his wife as a lower being. He denies
her right to speak and punishes her severely. Leontes says: You, my lords, Look on her, mark her well;

Essay on Prion Diseases
Prion Diseases
Abstract
Transmissible spongiform encephalopathies (TSEs) are neurodegenerative diseases that are thought to
be caused by the misfolding of prion proteins. Prions are able to replicate in the absence of nucleic
acids. TSEs include: scrapie, bovine spongiform encephalopathy, Creutzfeldt Jakob disease, kuru,
Gerstmann Straussler Scheinker disease, and Fatal Familial Insomnia. They can affect many different
animals, including humans. Currently, there are no ways to diagnose, treat, or cure TSEs, as much
more research is needed before these diseases are completely understood.

2. The Prion Protein and Its Function
The prion protein (PrP) is unusual in that it has two stable isoforms. The cellular or normal form of the
prion protein is termed PrPC, while the disease form is termed PrPSC. Sharing the same sequence of
amino acids, or primary structure, PrPC and PrPSC differ in their secondary, tertiary, and quaternary
structures. The normal prion protein has N and C terminals, three alpha helices, and two beta sheets
(Soto, 2006, 40). Its function is still not completely understood. However, scientists have found
evidence that point to various possibilities. 1) Because most PrPC are located in lipid rafts, membrane
structures involved in signaling, it is suggested that PrPC may also be a mediator in neuroprotective
signaling pathways. 2) Interaction between PrPC and Bcl 2, a ligand involved in protecting neurons
from apoptosis, suggests the possibility that PrPC may be an antiapoptotic protein. 3) PrPC has also
been linked to copper metabolism in the brain. In one particular study, PrP knockout mice, or mice
that were genetically altered to not express PrP, were found to have lower levels of copper in their
brains and higher levels in their serum (Soto, 2006, 42). However, in other studies with PrP knockout
mice, most of the animals did not display any obvious disorders, and those that did were found to have
been affected by the increase in concentration of another protein known as doppel.

and we need to embrace this movement. As the population grows, our demands on Earth s resources

and natural resources to support our society in the near future. Each day, we incur more and more
damage through the demands of consumerism, and this must come to an end. We must, as a society,

However, composting also has many other substantial environmental benefits. Composting is a very
efficient sustainable process that achieves its goal of being environmentally friendly by enriching soil,
remediating contaminated soil, and preventing pollution.
One of the main environmental benefits of compost is that it enriches the soil. The compost helps bind
the sand, silt, and clay particles in the soil together, resulting in improved storage capacity for
nutrients and water (Davies 41). This also results in a secondary benefit less water is needed to water
plants fertilized by compost. Compost is also very nutrient rich, so rich that gardeners commonly refer
to it as black gold ( Evanston... 3). It improves soil fertility as the composting process encourages the
growth of beneficial bacteria and fungi, which in turn break down organic matter to create humus, a
rich nutrient filled material. Kate Stewart, a student at Northwestern University and member of
GREEN House, has had extended experience with using compost to enrich poor Texas soil and says
that adding rich compost can make a huge difference... this means we can garden. This ability of
compost to enrich infertile soil is a profound environmental benefit.
Another important environmental impact of composting is its ability to remediate contaminated soil.

reason for the development of the new appetite of the stomach. Communal interaction also presents
the opportunity to aid in recovery if the right individuals are involved. Augustine provides evidence to
his thievery companionship by stating that he would not have committed that theft alone (34). Having
peers that can push others to improve their character is a key element in the search for positive

Atomic theory is the idea that matter is made up of small particles made of atoms. The atomic theory
first had 5 points which were stated by John Dalton who came up with it. The first one was that all
elements were made up of small units called atoms. The second one was that all atoms of a given

Verbal Irony In Nathaniel Hawthorne s The Scarlet Letter
The crooked toothed dentist looks downward upon his fearful client. Wait, a crooked toothed dentist?
Ironic, isn t it. Irony is a clever literary device that many authors use to make the audience stop and
ponder what has been said, emphasize a central topic or idea, or do both. Nathaniel Hawthorne, being
the exceptional author that he is,uses each of the three types of irony, verbal, dramatic, and situational,
to affirm his simple truth, Be true! Be true! Be true! throughout his novel. This chair is as comfortable
as sitting on nails. Verbal irony is when a character or narrator says something the expresses the
opposite of what is actually meant and, moreover, it is quite effortless to incorporate into a novel.
Sarcasm and verbal irony ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If he had simply confessed to his crime earlier, Chillingworth may not have chosen to seek vengeance
seeing that the reverend has already reaped what he sowed. While the firefighters of New York City
are out on duty, their fire station burns down. Situational irony is when what happens directly
contradicts what was expected to happen. In the case of Hawthorne s novel, situational irony is shown
predominantly in the final scaffold scene. Dimmesdale, on the scaffold with Hester and Pearl,
confesses his sin to the onlookers below and he assumes that his guilty conscience will be cleansed
and he will live on a happy life. Conversely, though, he collapses on the scaffold and promptly dies.
To quote the bible, from John 8:32 Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.
Dimmesdale s confession to the community set him free of Chillingworth s grasp, as well as his
human binds. As the reverend, he must believe in the Christian s version of the afterlife, so his death
brought to him arguably by God himself, frees him of the terrible puritan community. Irony has been a
staple in literature centuries before Hawthorne s time and continues to work centuries later in today s
writing. The first

Downtown Victoria Architectural Analysis
Downtown Victoria is filled with a great deal of architectural structures that vary in style from old
Eurocentric to modern. As you walk the streets of Downtown Victoria it is hard not to notice the
beautiful Eurocentric inspired buildings that make you feel as if you are touring an old city in Europe.
Although many of the more unique buildings are small, they display plenty of character through their
colours, shape and materials. Victoria has modernized some aspects of its architecture but it has
managed to keep many of its aged and Eurocentric inspired buildings that capture Victoria s character.
As I roam the streets of Downtown Victoria what catches my eye instantly are the Eurocentric looking
buildings. There is something especially about ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I took a sunny afternoon to take a walking tour of Downtown Victoria and there were various
buildings that gave me different feelings as well as having my mind make connections to buildings I
ve seen elsewhere. First being 560 Yates Street s Oriental Building, where I was reminded of a New
York City style apartment which was short, made of rustic red brick, displaying rounded window
followed by having that tinted brown giving it that old and dirty look. Then there was a sudden switch
as I came across 1675 Douglas Street s Terasen Gas Building. The Terasen Gas building was very
generic and modern office looking building. This type of building was one where if you came across a
photo of it, you wouldn t be able to pin point where it came from, meaning it could be anywhere in the
world. The last and top favourite building that struck out to me was Centennial Square s City Hall
building. This building was my favourite for various reasons one being able to capture that
Eurocentric feel that happens to be one of my favourite styles of buildings. It also really captured the
eye with its bold red brick colour and unique shape; it s almost impossible to miss. The outstanding
thing about Victoria is the fact that its kept so many of its older structures and is still able to give the
small city character. Often with big cities there is constant

Evil Vs Probabilism
The problem of evil, if one believes in the great and powerful God, is something that most will think
about at some point in their life. It s one of the greatest objections to the existence of God. It s
basically the problem of figuring out to what extent does the existence of evil count against the
existence of God or if it even does at all. First and foremost, we can most likely come to an agreement
that when thinking of the sufferings and evil in the world we think of either inhumane acts or natural
disaster, both of which we d assume God could prevent being that he s the creator of everything. With
that being said, most will agree that there are two types of the problem of evil, the emotional and
intellectual. A lot of people will experience ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He says if free will does exist then the above claims can not be true. Which destroys that whole
argument. God created the circumstance in which a person is able to make a free choice he can not
determine the choice they will choose. God doesn t create evil but it can t be avoided without giving
us free will. This supports the all knowing, all powerful, and all good God. This only solves the
inhumane acts though. The evil committed on purpose by human beings. It doesn t solve the natural
evil which is the things we can not be blamed for, such as the plates below the surface moving.
Therefore, the problem of evil still goes

Theme Of Sex In The Sun Also Rises
The Sun Also Rises is a novel by Ernest Hemingway, which explores the post World War I life of a
group of American and British expatriates. The story follows these expatriates as they journey from
Paris to Pamplona for the Festival of San Fermin. The group indulges in wild nightlife, which includes
drinking, dancing, and watching bullfights. This lifestyle takes the characters through the emotions of
anger, fear, and regret. The lone female character of the group, Lady Brett Ashley, is an attractive,
intelligent, and carefree divorcée that the men in the circle constantly lust for. Her appeal to the men
causes a great deal of sexual jealousy. The concept of sex is a devastating force that damages the
group. Sex is able to destroy relationships, people internally, and the purpose of life for the characters.
There are many relationships in The Sun Also Rises, each one having similar qualities to the others.
Most of the relationships revolve around Lady Brett Ashley, who is very outspoken about her love life.
She has had sexual relations with many men, and has even had affairs, but does not feel guilty about
her lifestyle. The narrator of the story, Jake Barnes, is very attracted to Brett, and Brett has mutual
feelings about Jake. However, Jake is impotent, because of a wound he received from serving in
World War I. Although Jake and Brett love each other, Brett s sexual desire is too strong for her to
abandon for Jake. She would not be able to leave her sex life, not even for

Essay The future of the Film and Television industry with the effect of pay tv and streaming services
Since the 1950 s the use of new technologies in the Film and Television industry has increased
dramatically. From the equipment used to create the moving pictures, the technology we use to view
these scenes and the techniques used to capture or produce the animated films and live shots,
technology is forever expanding and growing. The Film and Television industry is a major contributor
to the Australian economy, directly contributing $5.8 billion to Australia s GPD (Gross Domestic
Product). In this essay I will discuss the positive and negative effects of paid television and streaming
services on the industry and whether those effects will be positive for the industry s future. The key
features I will be looking at are;
The contribution made by the industry, directly and indirectly, to the economy, by looking at the value

Buck v. Bell: State Eugenics
On May 2, 1927, the U.S. Supreme Court, by a vote of 8 to 1, decided the case of Buck v. Bell. This
decision gave affirmation to the constitutionality of Virginia s law which allowed state enforced
sterilization and determined that compulsory sterilization laws did not violate due process given by the
14th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution. This decision established the legal authority for sterilizing a
toll of U.S. citizens that would grow to more than 60,000 in over thirty states until as late as the 1970
s. Carrie Elizabeth Buck, who would end up being the appellant in this case, was born on July 2, 1906,

Bell s sterilization of Buck relied on a false diagnosis which could have come about through the
embarrassment and the shame that was brought upon her adopted family as a result of the rape. There
was also testimony from doctors and other officials at the time of the trial that Vivian was
feebleminded and, after the trial had been delayed several weeks in an effort to gather additional
evidence, another testimony came forth. Caroline Wilhelm, a social worker who had previously
asserted several times that she could find no defects in Vivian, asserted that Vivian was not quite a
normal baby. In actuality, both girls received adequate marks in school and Vivian was even placed on
the honor roll in her elementary school a year before she

The Causes Of Urbanization And Poverty
Urbanization causes financial problems to the overwhelming majority of the people. This is because
problems with money are widespread in urban areas. First of all, urbanization leads to the extreme
growth of unemployment. For instance, as reported by the International Labour Organization,
International unemployment rose to 210 million people in 2010 (David Vicente 2012, p.154).
According to David Vicente (2012, p.156) vast amounts of unemployment results in human resources
not being used efficiently across cities which cause social inequality. This evidence shows that
urbanization causes unemployment. Urbanization leads to significant overpopulation in the central
cities, which causes high competition and as a result lower job opportunities for most people in the
labor market. As businesses and governments cannot produce enough jobs to meet the demand of a
fast growing population, a lot of individuals are faced with a shortage of employment and deprived of
a vital source of income. As a result, lack of revenue leads to inequality in society. Secondly,
urbanization leads to a lack of affordable housing for the overwhelming majority of urban people.
According to Gan (et al., 2017, p.427) in the forthcoming future, the global urban population will
reach around 6.3 billion people in 2050, and about 94% of them will be in developing countries.
Furthermore, approximately 828 million people from developing countries currently live in inadequate
housing and this number will rise

Who Is John The Transferer
Space. That cold void between the stars. A gateway to adventure, and oblivion. A home to many, and a
grave for countless others.
John doe though of these things as he looked out into the stars. Suddenly a shrill beep rang across his
comm. The airlock status lights turned green, flashing as the airlock slowly opened. When the doors
were fully open John began walking forward. He walked past the usual stop, the airlock tether locker,
and looked out into space.
Walker Clear he said into his comm as he readied himself on the edge of the platform. From the
vantage point of the airlock he could see his target. The dilapidated wreck of a Telisian freighter.

It would have been salvaged years ago if not for the fact that the reigning sector authority granted all
salvaging rights to the Atari Salvaging guild, and like most of the guilds claims, the freighter had just
sat in space ever since.
As he approached the cargo hold of the freighter he quickly eased back on the thrusters of his suit.
Scanner is live he said as he pressed another few buttons on his sleeve. The scanner mounted on the
side of his helmet came to life as it scanned the surrounding area. A glowing HUD popped up on his
helmet indicating the results of the scan. A large portion of the cargo hold had been breached in the
evacuation however the 3 crates he was looking for were still intact. Looks like the cargo s still in one
piece he said as he deactivated the scanner while simultaneously starting forward again with the suit
thrusters set to quarter power.
Good. Get the cargo and get back here. I don t like siting still this long jack said nervousness in his
voice. That was jack for you, always afraid of getting caught doing something less then legal.
You worry to much john said. He maneuvered aft toward the nearest hole in the cargo hold hull.
Arriving moments latter he disengaged his thrusters and slowly drifted inside the abandoned ship.
Once he was floating over the metallic floor of the cargo hold he pressed a different button on his
sleeve and suddenly fell to the floor, magnetically sealed to its surface.

Spiritual Journey Reflection Paper
I have been into the practicum for two months now. It is an appropriate time for me to reflect on my
learning and practice in spiritual direction in the past few weeks in the areas of the journey of faith,
emotion in spiritual direction, the purgative way, triads, meeting with directees in the sessions and
supervision. I appreciate working on the exercise in one of the classes on recalling one of my religious
spiritual experience prior to the end of high school and one of my religious of spiritual experience
since then. My journey and my story belong uniquely to me and it provides the starting place from
which to understand further the Critical Journey. Therefore the identification of the stages of my
journey of faith assists me to discover where I may be along the way and recognize where I have been.
This knowledge of the different stages of the journey of faith allows me to appreciate where others are
on their journey of faith in similar or different stages. I notice that one of my directees struggles with
noticing the presence of God in his life. In one of the sessions I invited him to recall one incident of
his previous journey where he felt there was the presence of God. This helped him to reflect on his
past experience and in turn, it provided encouragement for him to move forward. He probably is still
at stage two in the journey of faith where he needs to find the meaning of belonging. There are a lot of
things to learn from Fischer s guiding principles for working with emotion in spiritual direction. These
principles aid me to understand directee s emotion and language and thy allow me listen to the
directee deeply. I know one of her guiding principles bringing hidden and unacknowledged emotions
to awareness always leads to breakthrough on the spiritual journey. Hence in one of my sessions I
used that principle to help me to listen to the directee s issue by providing a safe space to allow the
directee to feel secure to explore his or her own emotions without the feeling of being judged by the
director. During that session, the directee seemed to feel relief and he was at the point of seeing an
appropriate path to move forward with the guidance of the Holy Spirit. The

Carley Allison passed away with Clear Cell Sarcoma in her trachea on March 31st, 2015, she was only 19 years old when she died. Clear Cell Sarcoma is a rare cancer that only affects one in every 3.5 billion, said ireport.cnn.com. When Carley had found out what she had and why she was sick, she didn t care, she still prospered like nothing ever happened. She was a competitive figure skater that traveled, a singer and songwriter and was noticed by many, including Selena Gomez, who told her to Stay strong and don t give up. Carley had gone through a lot but the one thing she never did was give up. Carley s Angels should be supported because we all need to raise awareness for what has happened, and help the doctors and families by donating to this charity. ... Clear Cell Sarcoma might be rare but it can happen to anybody, they don t know really what caused her to get the cancer, and they didn t know what to give her to help her. Carley had went through remission and they said that all the cancer was gone, but it wasn t it grew back and it got worse. • 3. The Attack Of Pearl Harbor On December 7, 1941 the world was embroiled into the attack of Pearl Harbor in Hawaii. Japan attacked Pearl Harbor with their ally, Nazi Germany. It started with Japan being a bit suspicious and not so thrilled with the Treaty of Versailles as it was seen as a way to keep everything in ship shape even if there were some disagreements in the world. The attack of Pearl Harbor could have been prevented if America had not forced them to trade, had not moved the Pacific Fleet in California, and by not provoking them by doing terrible things to Japan. To start off, the attack could have been prevented if America did not force them to trade. In document B it states, Japan believed in isolationism until pressured by the United States to open ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In document C, it says President Roosevelt moves US Pacific fleet from California to Pearl Harbor . This was on the timeline in 1940. Also on the timeline just one year later was the attack on Pearl Harbor. This proves that by them moving the Fleet it helped them be able to attack because it was even closer to them now, and at easy reach. In document E it reads How can we let the United States do as she pleases, even though there is some uneasiness? This shows how Japan infact did have a problem with America s behavior and was trying to stop it, because it was not fair for them. Overall, if America had kept their Pacific Fleet in the same place, it would have been harder for Japan to start war with them and actually fulfil their wishes of not having America controlling them with such things as trade, and actually much more... Some people might say the war couldn t be stopped because Japan already had a lot on western imperialism, however, sure they did not agree with it but they wanted to stay pure and isolated, so they didn t really care what was happening outside of Japan. Once again, document B states, Japan believed in isolationism until pressured by the United States to open itself up to trade . America caused Japan to be disrupted and brought the war on themselves. To conclude, if The U.S. didn t mess with Japan to start off, there wouldn t have been a war because Japan did not care about the United States until then. Lastly, if America stopped ... • 4. The Environmental Consequences And Effects Of Climate Change Climate change is a serious environmental issue which influences changes in temperature, humidity, air quality, precipitation, and land surface wetness across the globe (Institute of Medicine [IOM], 2011). Small changes in these factors can snowball into larger and potentially disastrous outcomes in climate and weather. For example, the 1.5°F increase in the average global temperature during the past century has been accompanied by serious environmental consequences such as an increase in floods, droughts, heavy rainfall, and more frequent and intense heat waves (Environmental Protection Agency [EPA], n.d.). Over the next century, the increase in the Earth s average temperature is predicted to rise by another 0.5 to 8.6°F (EPA, n.d.). The risk for additional severe changes to the Earth s system is projected to increase, as well as the potential harm to the health of the global population (World Health Organization [WHO], 2009). One way through which this is expected to occur is through climate change affecting the indoor environment by creating favorable conditions for the growth of mold, ultimately harming inhabitants respiratory health (IOM, 2011). According to a report by the Institute of Medicine s Committee on the Effect of Climate Change on Indoor Air Quality and Public Health, climate change induced alterations to the outdoor environment are likely to affect the indoor environment, and as a result, the health of its inhabitants (2011). Climate change has increased the frequency and intensity of heavy rainfall and hurricane events, leading to more breakdown of buildings, leaks and infiltration of water into the indoor environment, and flooding (IOM, 2011). The issue of indoor dampness and flooding lies in the creation of favorable conditions for the growth of mold. Moisture level has been shown to be the primary factor responsible for indoor mold growth (IOM, 2011). Exposure to mold is associated with various respiratory symptoms, such as coughing, wheezing, asthma exacerbation, and shortness of breath in vulnerable individuals (IOM, 2011). This combination of climate change and the subsequent increase in mold growth and exposure raises concerns for health, particularly the health of those with existing ... • 5. Lab Report On The Heat Of Neutralization Introduction: Every chemical change is accompanied by a change in energy usually in the form of heat. If heat is evolved, the reaction is exothermic, and if heat is absorbed, the reaction is endothermic. The energy change of a reaction that occurs at constant pressure is called the heat of reaction or the enthalpy of reaction (ΔHr). This quantity of heat is measured experimentally by allowing the reaction to occur in a calorimeter. In this experiment you will determine the heat of neutralization when an acid and a base react to form 1 mole of water. In a perfect calorimeter, heat is exchanged only between the reaction and the calorimeters water. Technically, some heat may may be absorbed the calorimeter. All calorimeters exchange some heat with its environment. This amount of heat is called the calorimeters heat capacity (the amount of of heat required to raise its temperature 1∘Celsius). We are going to pretend that our calorimeter is the perfect calorimeter. Purpose: You will determine the molar heat of neutralization of 1.00 M HCL and 1.00 M NaOH in Kilojoules. Materials: Goggles Graduated cylinder Drying wand Calorimeter Acid and base Thermometer Beaker to transfer liquids Paper cups Procedure: Carefully measure 75 of 1.0 M NaOH in a 100 ml graduated cylinder and pour it into the calorimeter. Leaving the thermometer out, place the top on the calorimeter. Rinse the graduated cylinder with some tap water. Then rinse the graduated cylinder with some about 10.0 ml of the 1.0 M HCl. Completely dry the graduated cylinder with a paper towel drying wand. Carefully measure 6.25 ml of the 1.0 M HCl. Leaving the HCl in the graduated cylinder measure the initial temperature of acid. 27.8∘C Rinse the thermometer with tap water and dry. Insert the thermometer in the calorimeters top and measure the initial temperature of the base 28.2∘C Carefully add all of the acid to the base in the calorimeter being careful not to splash any acid on the upper sides of the calorimeter. Many times and in most cases, specifically in the article titled ABORTION by Jimmyissmart on oppapers.com, abortion is seen as an act of violence and inhumane murder. It is mainly for this reason why people who are anti abortion support their point of view. However, to murder the victim must first be alive, but what is the meaning of life? In the case that a responsible female takes the proper precautions by using a condom or taking a pill and still ends up with an unwanted pregnancy should she drop out of school get a job at McDonalds work for minimum wage and raise a baby in poverty or should she post pone her getting a baby get an education first then, when she is more capable to raise and manage a happy and healthy baby do so? Thirdly, Rape is a big excuse for people who are for abortion. Women who become pregnant through rape and even incest rape suffer the most severe form of emotional tragedy. Should they still go through with having that child even though they may be at a time in their life where a child may completely destroy their life and also the fact that, that child will be the embodiment of that one moment in their life that they try to forget? Literacy has long been known as the ability to read and write but it has recently expanded to include things like computer literacy and competence of other things as well. For most, the process of becoming literate begins in early childhood. It starts by parents and siblings and sometimes even babysitters, nannies or teachers who speak to and around an individual, introducing them to the language of their people. Sometimes this talking to takes place in the form of reading aloud, which is a great way to instill a love of reading, but still does not teach the child how to read. In teaching literacy, there ... • 15. Comparing The Iliad And The Odyssey This short essay will identify five traditional epic characteristics that are evident in both the Iliad and the Odyssey. The first epic characteristic evident in both epics is catalogs and genealogies. For instance, Book VIII of the Odyssey features a list of participants in the game (115 125) and the Iliad Book II features a catalog of ships (484 759). Secondly, both epics start in media res. The Odyssey starts ten years after the Trojan War and the Illiad starts nine years after the start of the war. Thirdly, the Muses are prayed to for inspiration to tell the story, which can be observed in the Iliad Book I (1 9) and in the Odyssey Book I (1 31). Fourthly, the main characters also give long formal speeches. For instance, in Book XI of the Iliad, Hector rallies his men with a long speech after Agamemnon is carried off the field (248 291). Similarly, there are extended speeches between Telemachus and the suitors, which compile Book II of the Odyssey. Finally, there is intervention of gods or machinery in both epics. For Odysseus , Poseidon s divine intervention kept him from returning home for several years. Similarly, one of many examples of divine intervention exists fairly in the beginning of the Iliad, when Apollo responds to Chryses appeal to strike the Greek armies with plague. In conclusion, five traditional epic characteristics that are evident in both the Iliad and the Odyssey have been identified in the paragraphs above. 2. Scholars claim Homeric ... I viewed this module as the mechanics and technicality based conceptual understanding of consumer behavior. We recognize that consumer behavior isn t just static, but is much more in tune with the complexity that is the Human mind. This module to me represented the consumer coming to the final stage of the consumption process and becoming aware that a final decision is eminent. When I look back at my purchases I think how much went into buying an item or service and actually getting to that point where I have made that final purchase. It s interesting the one thing that spurs my whole consumption process is when I have told myself that I really want something, I need something, or I have to have something. This self awareness is what even allows the consumer to know what specifically they want to purchase. If we don t have this identifying behavior then product selection ends up being a moot point. My purchases are filled with items that were to serve a specific need or want. I usually identified this need and began the evaluative process. This process can be easily influenced through a multitude of different situational characteristics that are both intended and unintended. There are characteristics that the store or organization will try to put out and the portion that comes from product and consumer habits. I think for me as I look at the products I buy and the places I go ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The normal prion protein has N and C terminals, three alpha helices, and two beta sheets (Soto, 2006, 40). Its function is still not completely understood. In one particular study, PrP knockout mice, or mice that were genetically altered to not express PrP, were found to have lower levels of copper in their brains and higher levels in their serum (Soto, 2006, 42). The order of gene and the relative distance between them is essential for mapping. Genetic markers are used to determine the location on the DNA. The study of gene mapping on humans allows understanding the structure, function and organization of DNA. Whereas on non humans will provide the basic knowledge for comparative studies, that is critical to understand for more complex systems. Gene maps are relevant for industrial and medical senses. This is also known as much cost effective way to follow generations in short period. Genes involved in genetic inherited diseases will be identified and also they contribution to the diseases. • 37. Augustine s Confessions Augustine presents his Confessions through a detailed narrative of the negative and positive outcomes of the decisions that shaped his life. Conversely, Augustine decides to indulge himself in actions representing evil throughout the younger years of his life. Avenues of his evil actions are presented as his sexual thoughts and other sinful actions. His mother, Monica, decides to keep him from receiving baptism as a child so that he can freely participate in sin prior to affirming his commitment to God. Due to Monica s decision, Augustine descends from his initial holiness to the impurities he has involved himself in. Monica still hopes and prays that he will find God as an adult, and make the decision to become baptized. While analyzing Augustine s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Considering the descent of Augustine in mind and soul, communal interaction presents a noticeable reason for the development of the new appetite of the stomach. Communal interaction also presents the opportunity to aid in recovery if the right individuals are involved. Augustine provides evidence to his thievery companionship by stating that he would not have committed that theft alone (34). Having peers that can push others to improve their character is a key element in the search for positive fulfillment of the mind and soul. Later in his confessions, Augustine experiences the true nature of companionship through his conversion to Christ with Alypius. Augustine has difficulty in an initial conversion first. He must devote to fulfilling the appetites of his mind and soul before the appetites of his stomach. Realization of his difficult quest to ascend appears when he describes the lower condition as growing habitually more powerful than the better condition which he had not yet tried (157). Appetites of the stomach are translated as the lower condition, and the appetites of the mind and soul are translated as the better condition. Henceforth, Augustine has decided to make the effort to try the better condition with the hope of filling the empty hole with a more spiritual ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 38. How Does Natasha Romanoff Present The Russian Language In... As the first female Avenger, Natasha Romanoff s physical attractiveness and her Russian heritage have been emphasized most in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. In the beginning of The Avengers, she is interrogated by Russian thugs in a Russian warehouse. Donned in a short, revealing black cocktail dress, Romanoff slyly gains information from the thugs, while feigning ignorance. Thus, the film suggests that she is untrustworthy because she can easily trick others. In addition, Romanoff s spoken Russian in this scene reflects the misrepresentation of the Russian language in The Avengers. For a woman born and raised in the Soviet Russia, Natasha Romanoff has a notably American accent in comparison to the thug speaking Russian. Minor, yet explicitly antagonistic and foolish Russian characters are cast with Slavic actors who can properly speak the language, yet when ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Therefore, The Avengers uses the vilified Russian identity for entertainment. Furthermore, the scene emphasizes Romanoff s characterization as a Russian beauty. During the conversation, the thug comments on Romanoff s beauty: she is just a pretty face. Romanoff appears to question this statement, with a quipped retort: You really think that I m pretty? However, the visual depiction of an ensuing fight suggests that the one of the most important components of Romanoff s characterization is her attractive face and bust. As she throws punches, including one seemingly from her bright red hair, the camera angles frame to flaunt Romanoff s upper body. The final shot of the fight features her glistening face and bust in the middle of the frame. Just as the dialogue suggests, Romanoff s physical beauty is emphasized. Therefore, being a distinctly Russian woman in The Avengers entails the highlighting of an appealing visual aesthetic, the misrepresentation of language, and an ability to trick ... The first one was that all elements were made up of small units called atoms. The second one was that all atoms of a given element are identical to each other. Third, all the atoms were different from all the other atoms. Fourth, atoms of different elements combined together in equal numbers to form compounds. Fifth and final, atoms cannot be broken down, created or divided. John Dalton was a chemist in the early 19th century and his work was focused on the behavior and properties of gases. • 40. Verbal Irony In Nathaniel Hawthorne s The Scarlet Letter The crooked toothed dentist looks downward upon his fearful client. Wait, a crooked toothed dentist? Ironic, isn t it. Irony is a clever literary device that many authors use to make the audience stop and ponder what has been said, emphasize a central topic or idea, or do both. Nathaniel Hawthorne, being the exceptional author that he is,uses each of the three types of irony, verbal, dramatic, and situational, to affirm his simple truth, Be true! Be true! Be true! throughout his novel. This chair is as comfortable as sitting on nails. While the firefighters of New York City are out on duty, their fire station burns down. Situational irony is when what happens directly contradicts what was expected to happen. In the case of Hawthorne s novel, situational irony is shown predominantly in the final scaffold scene. Dimmesdale, on the scaffold with Hester and Pearl, confesses his sin to the onlookers below and he assumes that his guilty conscience will be cleansed and he will live on a happy life. Conversely, though, he collapses on the scaffold and promptly dies. To quote the bible, from John 8:32 Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free. Dimmesdale s confession to the community set him free of Chillingworth s grasp, as well as his human binds. As the reverend, he must believe in the Christian s version of the afterlife, so his death brought to him arguably by God himself, frees him of the terrible puritan community. It s one of the greatest objections to the existence of God. It s basically the problem of figuring out to what extent does the existence of evil count against the existence of God or if it even does at all. First and foremost, we can most likely come to an agreement that when thinking of the sufferings and evil in the world we think of either inhumane acts or natural disaster, both of which we d assume God could prevent being that he s the creator of everything. With that being said, most will agree that there are two types of the problem of evil, the emotional and intellectual. A lot of people will experience ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 46. The Causes Of Urbanization And Poverty Urbanization causes financial problems to the overwhelming majority of the people. This is because problems with money are widespread in urban areas. First of all, urbanization leads to the extreme growth of unemployment. For instance, as reported by the International Labour Organization, International unemployment rose to 210 million people in 2010 (David Vicente 2012, p.154). According to David Vicente (2012, p.156) vast amounts of unemployment results in human resources not being used efficiently across cities which cause social inequality. This evidence shows that urbanization causes unemployment. Urbanization leads to significant overpopulation in the central cities, which causes high competition and as a result lower job opportunities for most people in the labor market. As businesses and governments cannot produce enough jobs to meet the demand of a fast growing population, a lot of individuals are faced with a shortage of employment and deprived of a vital source of income. As a result, lack of revenue leads to inequality in society. Secondly, urbanization leads to a lack of affordable housing for the overwhelming majority of urban people. According to Gan (et al., 2017, p.427) in the forthcoming future, the global urban population will reach around 6.3 billion people in 2050, and about 94% of them will be in developing countries. Furthermore, approximately 828 million people from developing countries currently live in inadequate housing and this number will rise ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 48. Spiritual Journey Reflection Paper I have been into the practicum for two months now. It is an appropriate time for me to reflect on my learning and practice in spiritual direction in the past few weeks in the areas of the journey of faith, emotion in spiritual direction, the purgative way, triads, meeting with directees in the sessions and supervision. I appreciate working on the exercise in one of the classes on recalling one of my religious spiritual experience prior to the end of high school and one of my religious of spiritual experience since then. My journey and my story belong uniquely to me and it provides the starting place from which to understand further the Critical Journey. Therefore the identification of the stages of my journey of faith assists me to discover where I may be along the way and recognize where I have been. This knowledge of the different stages of the journey of faith allows me to appreciate where others are on their journey of faith in similar or different stages. I notice that one of my directees struggles with noticing the presence of God in his life. In one of the sessions I invited him to recall one incident of his previous journey where he felt there was the presence of God. This helped him to reflect on his past experience and in turn, it provided encouragement for him to move forward. He probably is still at stage two in the journey of faith where he needs to find the meaning of belonging. There are a lot of things to learn from Fischer s guiding principles for working with emotion in spiritual direction. These principles aid me to understand directee s emotion and language and thy allow me listen to the directee deeply. I know one of her guiding principles bringing hidden and unacknowledged emotions to awareness always leads to breakthrough on the spiritual journey. Hence in one of my sessions I used that principle to help me to listen to the directee s issue by providing a safe space to allow the directee to feel secure to explore his or her own emotions without the feeling of being judged by the director. During that session, the directee seemed to feel relief and he was at the point of seeing an appropriate path to move forward with the guidance of the Holy Spirit. The ...
