Madeleine Vionnet s Madeleine
Madeleine Vionnet Background: Madeleine Vionnet was born in Chilleurs aux bois, Paris on
June 22, 1876. Though she was born in Chilleurs aux bois, Madeleine childhood was spent in
Aubervilliers, France. Her father worked as to toll collector, and her parents had separated
when Vionnet was very young in age. Madeleine s family was originally from the Jura and
where known for being of the working class. Because of this Madeleine s father put her to work
before even hitting 12 years of age. Starting her work in the fashion industry, she became an
apprentice for a lace make when she was 11 years old. Working long hours, with minimal pay,
Madeleine was remind focused on her work. By the time Vionnet had turned 18 years old she
had been married with a child and quickly divorced. During that time her child had passed away
in infancy. Rushing into a marriage at such a young age and dealing with the death of a child,
Madeleine felt as though something in her life was missing. As a result she traveled to London
to take a position as a hospital seamstress. She was also able to find a job in London, working for
a dress maker named Kate Reilly. After working as the hospital seamstress in London. Ms. Vionnet
later made her return to Paris and began her training in the fashion houses of Jacques Doucet and

Ethical Issues In Sully
Sully (2016), a film based on the true story of the pilot Chesley Sully Sullenberger (Tom Hanks),
tells of a heroic landing of a commercial plane on the Hudson River. Shortly after takeoff, the
plane was struck by a flock of birds. Sully had to make a quick decision to land his plane on the
Hudson River. His quick actions result in the safe landing of the plane, and all 155 present on
board survives. He faces big challenges due to his action of landing on water. Sully worries about
the safety of his passengers because of the real possibility of illness and death that could have been
caused by his decision. On the other hand, the determination of the National Transportation Safety
Board (NTSB) to have success in making Sully look bad, contributed... Show more content on

The danger with water landing is not the initial landing, it is what happens after the landing.
Unlike crash landings on land, when done in the waters the risk of drowning is v possible and is
the cause of most water based landing deaths. After Sully thoroughly checked the plane to
ensure that everyone was evacuated safely, he proceeded to leave himself. Sully being the last to
leave the plane was showing his concern for everyone who was onboard the plane. While Sully
was able to land with everyone intact, the weather was another factor that they had to be taken
into consideration. It was in the heart of winter and both the water and air temperature were very
cold. As seen in the film two of the passengers tried to swim, while others feel into the cold water.
The danger that lies here is the fact that hypothermia, a medical emergency that occurs when your
body loses heat faster than it can produce heat, has symptoms of dizziness, and a lack of
coordination. This means that someone who may normally be a strong swimmer could drown very
easily due to hypothermia. Also, if hypothermia is left untreated it eventually leads to complete
failure of one s heart and respiratory system causing death. (Hypothermia) In the film we see the
recused passengers shivering and being giving blankets. The quick response of the recuse

FORGIVENESS
INTRODUCTION
Forgiveness is not just practiced by saints and not only benefits its recipients but have strong
connection with person s physical, mental and spiritual health. It plays a great role in the health of
families, communities and nations. Forgiveness provides common ground for love, acceptance,
harmony and true happiness Most spiritual and religious leaders of the world will agree that
forgiveness of oneself and others is one way to clear the mind, heart and soul and may result in a
feeling of increased peace and happiness.

Forgiveness have important medicinal effect on health. Researchers and study have shown that
people who forgive have less chances of health issues like heart attack and brain tumor. People
who hold tolerance views of human nature and don t seem to nurse grieveness unduly tend to
have blood pressures in the normal range (Callwood, J. 2007, p. 153). Writer in the above
findings tells her readers the medicinal effect of tolerance. She beautifully explains the positive
effect of forgiveness in contrast with unforgiveness where her contrasting finding says
Unforgiving people, some studies show, are three times more likely to have heart diseases as
people who don t carry grudges (Callwood, J. 2007, p.153). Writer here is addressed to people
who cannot or do not forgive and tells them how harmful holding grudges are to their health. She

The Consequences Of The US President Donald Trump
The last week was by far one of the most momentous ones with terrible consequences for the world.
US President Donald Trump withdrew America from the landmark Paris climate change accord,
undermining the global efforts to protect the environment. With this, America has become the third
country in the world, together with Syria and Nicaragua, to stay out of the agreement.
The former US Federal Bureau of Investigation James Comey pushed the US President Trump a
few steps closer to impeachment. Comey told a Senate hearing how the president sought to stop the
FBI investigation into Russia s role in influencing the American presidential elections in 2016.

The US withdrawal from the Paris accord has set back the potential progress in taming climate
change and environmental degradation by decades. It means some island countries will move a
few steps closer to extinction and many coastal countries will see their coastal areas under water.
The political turmoil under a bully authoritarian president will weaken democratic institutions in the
United States and other countries. It will also weaken the US economy and the global economy.
China s plan to establish its military base in Pakistan will further destabilize the already unstable
South Asia. Besides, it will embolden Beijing to assert itself more vigorously in the South China
Sea, where it has claimed a large ocean territory, and lead to a major conflict there.
Ganging up by several neighbors on Qatar has destabilized West Asia further, already the most
volatile region in the world. While Qatar s support for terrorists must not be denounced, this norm
must also apply to other backers of terrorism, including those that have pulled out the dagger
against Qatar. There are no good or bad terrorists.
Once again, terrorism is raising its head. After the Israeli Palestinian conflict soared the tempers to
the stratosphere had somewhat subsided, global terrorism also had somewhat receded. But the Al
Qaeda and Islamic State have pushed it to a new height.
That brings me to Nepal which has been, and will be, bearing the impact all these global

Sholeh Wolpe s I Was Sung Into This World
Sholeh Wolpe has written two poems that both explore death. During a question and answer
session with poet, Sholeh Wolpe, I was informed that her poem I Was Sung Into This World was
written from personal experience. Therefore, following the session, I was able to form connections
and draw a contrast between two poems. I Was Sung into This World was inspired by personal
experience where she contributes her own thoughts about death. However, She Forgot is written
from third person point of view where she reveals other s feelings towards death. Beds often stand
as a metaphor or visual aid for events such as life and death. Sholeh Wolpe focuses on these two
events in I Was Sung into This World and She Forgot and uses these events with

The Witchy Worries of Abby Adams Essay
Dreams... are truly made of you. They show your deepest fears and wildest moments ... maybe even

The witchy worries of Abby Adams
Daisy, are you done with your book honey , mom said loudly. Yes , I declared proudly. After all, it
was a long and dry book at the beginning, and it did take a pretty long time. So, do you want to tell
me what it s about? my mom said inquisitively. Sure , I said, stuffing a piece of meatloaf into my
mouth. So, this book is called The Witchy Worries of Abby Adams. In the beginning, they
introduce the characters. You know, like they do in every book. After that Ding dong! Oh my, I

felt to be a fairy tale character. Abby gave a loud laugh then said, I m sure I m not a character
from a book and yes, I know that resemble to characters from books but please, don t accuse me if
you don t have proof . But from her words, I could tell she was hiding something behind her
words and laughter. As if she could trick me! First of all, I m not accusing anybody. Stop trying
to make it worse than it seems. Second of all, I have real proof. So if you think you can come
into my house, say you want to talk to me, and then lie to me, then you need to find another girl !
Daisy! Mom was furious this time. Don t talk to Mr. Alan s daughter like that. Now you know he
is a good man and he is always polite to you. So why do you dare talk to his daughter in such a
way? my mother roared. I would never! Except that this isn t Mr. Alan s daughter. I have proof

Dr. Pepper Case Analysis
Dr. Pepper Company
I.Case Summary
From being a practically unknown soft drink company to now being one of the highest performing
of the 1000 largest manufacturing firms, Dr. Pepper has evolved to become an international
beverage organization. Dr. Pepper began its roots back in 1880, in Waco, Texas, when a young
soda jerk invented a soft drink which he named after his father in law (Dr. Pepper). Robert
Lazenby began to market the drink on commercial basis in 1885, and it was not until 1922 that an
extensive sales and distribution program was initiated. The current president of the organization is
Mr. Woodrow Wilson Clements together with Joe K. Hughes who is the executive VP of the firm.

3.An opportunity exists for the firm to venture into new product lines like energy drinks and other

C.Internal Weakness
1.The biggest weakness of Dr. Pepper is that it is not diversified. The firm is finding hard to
differentiate its products from that of the competitors. The potential of firm is not being tested and
evaluated properly on which even Mr. W.W Clements says, It would be criminal to branch off into
something else .
2.Another weakness in the firm comes from the ages of the executive officers. Most of the
professionals in the firm are growing old and close to their retirement age. Since they have a lot of
experience and may work beyond their retirement age, but it would be wise for the firm to take
young professionals under their guidance.
3.The firm is producing and wasting its effort and resources in Salute and Waco, fountain syrups,
which only accounts for one percent of dollar sales.
4.Dr. Pepper is one brand domestic company. Lack of product diversification and differentiation,
and also because of the disadvantage against multination organizations like Coca Cola and Pepsi
CO., Dr. Pepper is not the leading seller in any major United States market.

The Issue Of Limited Liability
In light of the decision in Prest, this essay will argue that this principle has been taken too far,
and it has become too easy for parent companies to escape the obligations of its subsidiaries. It
will begin with a discussion of limited liability and examine the when the veil may be pierced after
Prest. Next, it will discuss the current arguments calling for reform.
The concept of limited liability was conceptualized to promote enterprise through limitation of risk.
In many ways, the argument remains applicable today. As a detailed exposition is beyond the scope
of this essay, this essay will examine the two major lines of debate. Firstly, the argument that limited
liability encourages enterprise is normally linked with passive investors who have no other interest
in the company other than that their money is invested within. However, on the opposite spectrum,
the power to purchase shares was also given to companies having a separate legal personality. In
corporate group scenarios, this essay will support the arguments of Blumberg and Wright that the
parent company is not a passive investor , but rather an active force behind the subsidiary. Thus,
there is a clear danger, as evidenced in cases such as Adams, that limited liability can encourage
risk that is excessive, as owners engage in excessively risky activities [being] protected from
liability.
This is demonstrated through the observation that directors in privately managed companies stand
behind the veil

Merit pay is a term describing performance related pay. Its primary focus is used for helping
teachers improve their performance by learning from each other. Merit Pay can take the form of
a bonus or a permanent teacher salary increased. This motivates many teachers because they
believe they are being evaluated more fairly than traditional evaluation. Merit pay is important
to study because it s a one of the most controversial issue in the field of education and it does
have an effect on school finance in the future. We should be concerned about using merit pay in
our school system because most professions offer bonuses and salary increases for their
exemplary employees why should the education profession be any different? Shouldn t we try
and use incentives as we do with our students to motivate teachers to give their very best in
educating our future leaders of tomorrow. Merit pay will recruit and retain some of the nation s
brightest mind. Many people who have the capability to teach our students refused to do so due to
teacher pay but with merit pay many of these individuals may consider working in the education
profession. Relation to the Problem to the Specialization Merit Pay is a topic of investigation
because even though it rewards great teachers many lawmakers, educators, and teacher s union are
opposed to it.

The Importance Of Leadership And Objectives Of Leadership...
To make the most of leadership development, you need to plan for it carefully. As mentioned in
the earlier section, you can minimise the risk of failure with a leadership program if you take the
appropriate steps beforehand. In the final section, we ll provide you the five essential steps you
need to take to guarantee your leadershipdevelopment is effective in achieving the benefits.
Step 1: Define your businesses understanding of leadership
Before you Google leadership development programs and pick one for you or your organisation,
you need to consider what leadership means. It is essential to outline the importance of leadership,
the meaning of leadership and the objectives of leadership development before signing up with a
specific course. While leadership development is about enhancing your understanding of leadership
and the skills required to lead, you need to have an organisation wide understanding of it before you
can start with improving your knowledge on the topic.
Defining your business understand of leadership is best achieved by answering the following
questions:
What does the business value the most? Outline the key values that define your organisation and
the work that you do.
What is the business culture you want to build success on and what are the behaviours that you
think will help in achieving this? Every business needs to have a set of beliefs guiding its work and
you must be able to identify this and figure out the behaviours and actions that

The Violent Myth Of Appalachia Essay
Brooks 3
THE VIOILENT MYTH OF APPALACHIA
ENGL 330
Appalachian Literature
By
Julie A. Brooks

the violent myth of appalachia
Appalachia may be the most misconceived region in the United States. To many Americans,
Appalachia has been thought of as a poverty stricken, backwards, violent region, and to some it
still is perceived as such. Often it has been labeled with titles such as hillbilly, redneck,
moonshiner, and feudists. Appalachia?s residents are seen as lazy, non trusting, drunk, illiterate,
and in need of a savior to pull them out of the darkness into the light. This research paper will
seek to challenge the myth of a violent Appalachia by describing documented proof that violence
in Appalachia is not, as most thought, a product of its geographical location, or because its people
are isolated. Violence in Appalachia was, just as in other areas of America, a result of tensions and
frustration that was deep seeded in the fabric of all American society.
To understand the concepts of violence in Appalachia, it is imperative to explain how Appalachia
is defined. The Appalachian Region, as defined in ARC s authorizing legislation, is a 205,000
square mile region that follows the spine of the Appalachian Mountains from southern New York to
northern Mississippi. It includes all West Virginia and parts of 12 other states: Alabama, Georgia,
Kentucky, Maryland, Mississippi, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina,

The Giver Utopia
The definition of a Utopia an imaginary and indefinitely remote place, a place of ideal perfection

by Lois Lowry is about a boy named Jonas who lives a community of sameness where everybody
doesn t have feelings but Jonas and The Giver. Jonas s community is a utopia because the people
of the community each get a job, they never starve (basic needs), and they do not have feelings
so they do not have pain, sadness, or competition. One reason why Jonas s community is a utopia
is that everyone in it gets a job that relates to what they do and who they are in some way. I think

I think this because as the giver told Jonas ... you and I are the only ones who have feelings.
(pg.154).This quote showed me that no one has feelings (excluding Jonas and The Giver)
meaning that they cannot feel pain or have sadness or be angry. They are emotionless so nothing
can bring them down. Although having no emotions can seem bad but if, you never knew what
emotions were or that they existed then no one would even notice anything different. Also
without emotions, the community members cannot have competition for anything because they
do not have emotions. Without being able to feel anything emotionally, they will not ever need
to cry or be hurt; they would just keep going on. So since they cannot feel pain or sadness the
community is a utopia. Overall, Jonas s community in The Giver is a utopia. It is a utopia
because everyone gets a job, no one starves so there basic needs are met, and no one has feelings
so they cannot feel pain or sadness. The Giver is a perfect example of the definition of a utopia, an
imaginary and indefinitely remote place, and a place of ideal perfection especially in laws,

Relationships are very important in a good life. A great deal of happinesscan be acquired through

The more friends you have, the happier you will be. If you are unhappy, people may not want to

Though it may not be a legal commitment, but days when an emergency situation is at hand
healthcare staff should make use of good ethical practice and be present for work.
Administering the wrong prescription for a patient can be viewed as a negligent act as well as a
bad ethical decision. As much as this act leans more towards negligence, it is only right to assume
the existence of poor ethical standards. If nurse maintained a high standard and value towards

Identify and explain at least three professional considerations The three professional considerations
that pertain to this case are similar to the ethical considerations. It was unprofessional for the nurses
to call off, leave patients un attended, and also breaking the patient legal duty to provide proper

The Black Hole was one of the works we viewed that showed a different kind of horror than any
of the other pieces we viewed. The works have similarities, but very different stories. Both works

The other works had no visual aid and the pages were restricted to words on every page. Afterlife

different shades of red and blue that helped in setting the mood. The first page of the book is
blacked out with red paint splattered on it like blood, the words This is how the end of the
world begins... (Aguirre Sacasa 1.) sets the mood for the book and gives the idea that this will
be an intense journey through the pages. The Black Hole is a short film and uses video and
sound as the only means of communication to the audience. There is no dialogue since the man
in the film is the only person in the office. This film relied heavily on using video to convey the
message flickering lights and dark shadows add a scary feeling in the film. All the other works

The Fall of the Berlin Wall and the Disintegration of the...
Communism is defined as a political and economical doctrine, the aim which is to abolish private
ownership of property and for profit enterprise and to replace these with public ownership and
control of industry, agriculture, and resources ( Communism ). The product of this government is
supposed to be a society free of class ranking based on wealth, property, and political power. The
Soviet Unionwas the first country to test these governmental strategies and it did not take long for
the regime to collapse. The inevitable collapse of communism led to the fall of the Berlin Wall; this
started the domino effect of freedom that ultimately led to the collapse of the Soviet Union.

During the Soviet Union regime the health care system became socialized and citizens were
allowed to have full health care without charge. The Soviet Union was also the first country to
have an equal number of hospital beds to citizens (Hoeppler). Even though they had great access
to heath care the hospitals lacked the essentials needed for the hospitals to operate up to standards.
In 1990, 24 percent of hospitals did not have adequate pluming, 19 percent lacked central heat, 45
percent lacked bathrooms or showers, 49 percent had no hot water, and 15 present operated without
any water at all (Hoeppler). These conditions were unacceptable according to Boris Yeltsin.
In June of 1991, Yeltsin won the presidential election in Russia. He became the first Russian
leader to stand in a legitimate election. Yeltsin inspired mass demonstrations against the 1991
attempt to overthrow Gorbachev s, the president before him, government ( The Fall of the Soviet
Union ). This brought him popularity. Yeltsin decided to capitalize on his popularity by going
forward with radical reform policies. After doing things like banning the CPSU, confiscating CPSU
s assets, and distributing the state s assets to the populace. So, it did not take Yeltsin much time at
all to start to dismantle the Soviet Union ( The Fall of the Soviet Union ).

Contrast Of Presidential Campaign Positions Of McCain And...
Contrast of presidential *campaign positions of McCain and Obama. From year to year,
presidential elections face many controversial problems that involve candidates personality and
ideas, and they have a great influence on voters decisions. Many journalists and politicians express
their feelings about upcoming presidential elections in provocative articles, revealing
accomplishments of one and limitations of another, but the only right way to find out who our
candidates are, and what are their real intentions, is to let them turn their ideas into life. Just

He will also establish permanent tax credit equal to 10 percent of wages spent or R amp;D .
McCain plans a retirement tax cut, to be exact, to lower Medicare premiums, and to reform
budgeting to treat equally spending and taxes and to stop damaging tax hikes . Finally, he adds
that he is going to fight the Democrats crippling plans for a tax increases in 2011, which
compose about 700 dollars per person. (McCain J. , McCain Tax Cut Plan, 2008) It is surprising
that Obama has no word about tax increases in his economic issues section; probably he has it in
his official plan and there is no secret about it, but still, can we accuse him of not telling the
whole truth? It is pretty clear that an average voter never reads official plans, and he will never
know about tax increases if somebody like Mr. McCain, for example, will not reveal it for public.
It would be foolish to assume that an excuse might be that elections are in 2009, and plans for
2011 can be reported in 2011, as candidates should inform their voters about all plans during their
presidential term. Not less important question in economic development is trading policy and
employment. Both candidates have a variety of valuable ideas about this issue. John McCain

The Pianist And The Pianist
Holocaust is one of the most dreadful and unforgettable time in human history. This event of a
huge genocide has become the topic of many films; and The Pianist is one of the films. The
Pianist is a historical drama directed by Roman Polanski. The movie is based on the true
memories of Wladyslaw Szpilman, a Jewish pianist who had survived from the Holocaust. The
movie describes how Wladyslaw Szpilman manages to escape from the Ghetto and survive
through the massacre of Jews in Poland by luck. The most surprising scene in the movie is when a
German captain, Wilm Hosenfeld, help Wladyslaw Szpilman by bringing him food and not letting

developed a stronger inner character throughout the whole incident. The way how Polanski chose
to direct this movie is very interesting. Polanski chose to film the movie in a subjective way,
where the audience can only see the incidents through Szpilman s perspective. While watching the

The Secret River By Kate Grenville
The Secret River is written by Kate Grenville, an internationally well known author. It s also her
most influential magnum opus. Kate Grenville said, her mother s grandfather was a poor man
from London and sentenced to be sent to Australia because of stealing timbers in the early
nineteenth century. After arriving to Sidney, he thought presumingly that he finally had his
own land. The thing makes Grenville curious is that the land was supposed to belong to
aboriginal people but how her grandfather could make a living on this land. It s important for her
to know about if her grandfather dealt with this problem by gun or even gave the exchange to
aboriginal people. Therefore, she did a lot of historical researches and wrote novel The Secret
River eventually. This is a story about family and Australia. It s also a story about more than a
family that narrates a complicated relationship between Australia s aboriginal people and white
colonists. It happened in the early nineteenth century in England and Australia. William Thornhill,
the hero came from a family of little money and suffered from hunger and cold since childhood.
Afterwards, Thornhill was apprenticed to Sal s father and became a capable boatman on the river

living got more and more poverty stricken so that Thornhill had to make a living by stealing. Once

Mexico Economy And Gdp Of Mexico
MEXICO ECONOMY AND GDP
Mexico is the 15th largest nominal GDP in the world and the 11th largest by Purchasing Power
Parity which is estimated at $2.2602 trillion in 2015 and a $1.3673 trillion in nominal exchange
rate. Its annual average growth from 1995 2000 was 5.1% but dropped to 3.02 % over the next
10 years. In the wake of the global financial crisis, Mexico GDP further took a nose drive by a
6.2% decrease; the economy is gradually normalizing as the GDP expanded to at 2.1% in 2014
a two year consecutive growth. It is expected to modestly rebound in 2015 to 2.7% before
averaging a robust 3.5% between the fiscal year 2016 2019 this growth when compared with
other regional peers is slow, a reflection of the country weak trade ties with Asia. (EIU, 2015) But
unlike most countries, it was able to maintain a moderate public debt of 45% of its GDP and a low
but permanent current account deficit of 0.8% which can mainly be attributed to the country s
commercial surplus with the United States and a deficit with Asia, China and the rest of the world.
It has been argued that successful implementation of structural reform could potentially eliminate
some competitive bottleneck thus boosting the economy to 4 5% by 2019 (export.gov) but this is
an unlikely achievement in light of the persisting institutional weakness towards implementing
government reform program. The country trade balance would suffer from lower oil export as a
result of decline in population and weaker oil price

Rock N Roll In The 1950 s
The warden threw a party in the county jail. The prison band was there and they began to wail.
The band was jumpin and the joint began to swing. You should ve heard them knocked out
jailbirds sing. These lyrics from Elvis Presley s hit song Jailhouse Rock clearly illustrate how
teenagers reacted to his new brand of music, Rock n Roll in the 1950s. Elvis and his music came
in a time when the baby boomers were teenagers and beginning to identify themselves and discover
music. The civil rights movement was just about to begin, and the tension between whites and
blacks was just beginning to decrease. The two races found companionship when listening to music,

His unorthodox selling techniques led to sky rocketing sales. He looked for a new challenge when

described Thomke as a tough negotiator and as iron willed. After joining ETA he agreed to provide
advertising and support allowances to movement customers.
However, these agreements stated that ETA only provided aid if it had a role in product planning
and strategy formulation.
THE GLOBAL WATCH INDUSTRY
To understand the global watch industry three key variables were considered : watch technology,
watch priЕ“ and the watch s country of origin.
Watch Movement Technology
Watch design underwent a revolutionary change in the early 1970s when traditional mechanical
movement technology was replaced with electronics. A mechanical watch s energy source came
from a tightened mainspring which was wound by the user. As the spring unwound it drove a series
of gears to which the watch hands were attached, the hands moved around the analog (or numerical)
face of the watch to indicate the time. Highly skilled workers were required to produЕ“ and
assemble the movements in accurate mechanical watches and the Swiss were world renowned in
this area.
The п¬Ѓrst electronic watch was built by a Swiss engineer, Max Hetzel, in 1954, but it was U.S.

Excise A Tumor Poem Analysis
The first line in How to Excise a Tumor is don t fall in love with it, whatever you do, and given
this poem seems like it is going to be about how to remove a tumor, this advice seems fairly
obvious. After all, who would fall in love with something as horrible as a tumor? But for Safiya
Sinclair, this is the opening line, the defining line, of this poem and in her poem, How to Excise a
Tumor, Safiya Sinclair uses the speakers tumor as a symbol for an unwanted child. Through the
poetical devices such as metaphors and imagery, Sinclair weaves a tale of a tumor and its human.
How to Excise a Tumor is a relatively short poem of 27 lines. It details what advice the speaker
has to those who, presumably, have discovered they have a tumor. She, the speaker, gives
suggestions and warnings like don t fall in love with [the tumor] and it will always want more
that you can give. This is good advice to those with literal tumors as well as those whose tumors
are a bit more metaphorical, as is the speaker s tumor. Her tumor is an undesired child, possibly
the product of sexual assault. The speaker says the tumor will move to leech at your nipples, and
other parts of you will grow hot to show how the reader s initial uncaring provisions will turn
into warmth and affection for the child. As the reader s affection grows and the child make[s] a
home in the damp chasms of your heart, the speaker believes you ll begin to see the good in
everything, but despite how wonderful that situation might sound, the speaker lets the readers
know otherwise. She again warns the reader that the tumor will [make] such a mes of your dreams
and to not give in to accidental pleasure. All of the speaker s warnings show that she regrets giving
into her tumor and not doing more to get rid of it which creates a theme of unhappiness.
That theme is further supported by the metaphors scattered throughout How to Excise a Tumor.
One such metaphor is the blind aphid. An aphid is a small bug that feeds destructively on plants
and a blind aphid would be particularly undiscerning. Without sight, the aphid chew[s] straight
through the core. In other words, the aphid or the tumor continues eating and taking until it has
destroyed the

How Did Tutankhamun Influence Ancient Egyptian Society
The reign of Tutankhamun had a significant impact on ancient Egyptian society due to the upheaval
the revolution of the very foundation of Egyptian beliefs by Tutankhamun s father Akhenaten
created, followed by the restoration of the original belief system during Tutankhamun s reign. In
order to explore this further, a brief background of Akhenatens reign needs to be looked at in order
to understand why the main religion of Egypt was changed so suddenly. Tutenkhamun came to the
throne as a young child, therefore he had advisers who would look after state affairs for him. Who

The political centre was moved back to Memphis whilst Thebes was re established as the religious
centre. Amarna was essentially abandoned. General Horenheb, who was ther King s deputy and

with the king and his queen and took reponsibility for religious matters. Tutenkhamun moved
between Memphis and Thebes for political or religious reasons. Once the administration had been

The Differences Of Baroque Music During The Baroque Period
According to the Columbia Electronic Encyclopedia, the baroque period was thus one of stylistic
duality. It was an era that displayed emotional extremes through art and architecture. One of the
ways art was expressed was through music. During the early baroque era, music became more
appealing to the people of Italy. It was a way of how people can voice their emotions and feelings
in different forms through other senses besides their eyes. Unlike the other kinds of arts such as
paintings and sculptures that have a visual, emotional effect, the baroque musicaffected the people
through their sense of hearing. Music became more popular with the middle class, and amateur
musicians started to appear. Because of the conflict between the Catholics... Show more content on

It was a kind of musical form with solos that convey intense feelings to show interest in human

Ethics In The Military Essay
To what extent is it morally right to force a subordinate to follow an order even if it is against
their will? Throughout everyday life, ethics are apparent within many aspects of an individual s
life, regardless of whether it s in the household, the workplace or even the military. without
realizing what they were. Ethics are principles that one follows in their life, which also affects the
behavior of an individual. The concepts of ethics falls into several components within one s life:
events within history such as Muhammad Ali s controversy, a religious stance like Christianity, or
even a common structure, in this case the military. This complex system contains many people with
different upbringings and morals which occasionally creates an ethical dilemma due to the
different perspectives of the topic. Within every branch of the military, a chain of command is

To look at it in a larger foundation, a disruption within the chain of command can influence one s
opinion on the choice of not following orders. The logic as to why the military functions as well
as it does comes from the obedience that becomes apparent between the two roles. However, if a
disruption between the relationship due to disobedience occurs, a chain reaction can appear and
cause chaos. Confucius explains that one needs to have determination to fulfil their official
responsibilities even when that meant disobeying orders (Chan, Wing tsit). Confucius is well
known due to his status as a philosopher, and for implying knowledge of ethics that he teaches in
his works. By using reason to reach conclusions, the fact that Confucius states that it s best to
fulfil the duty of the job rather than follow orders provides an ethical debate based on whether
people think fulfilling a job is more important or following orders to be more

Around the mid 1800s, the United States was focused on the idea of expansion . This idea was
influenced by Manifest Destiny a term that the U.S. not only could, but was destined to, stretch
from coast to coast and its economic nature, which was the increased development and
advancement of industry in the United States. As the U.S. began to grow more powerful and
internally sound, they were able to add more land and, subsequently, states, into the Union. The
vast majority of this expansion occurred during the presidency of James Polk as a result of the
Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo, which ceased the Mexican American war. The conception of this
war was the brainchild of Polk and was what resulted from his presidential ideologies. President
James Polk was responsible for the start of the Mexican American war to a great extent due to his
expansionist ideologies and succeeding actions, aspiration to annex the regions of California and
Texas, and contributions of troops along the Rio GrandeRiver in 1846. To begin with, during the
election of 1844, James Polk was considered to be a long shot and a definite underdog. However,
Polk gained the support of many Americans through his clear desire to defend the territories of the
United States and to further expand them. This ideology became prevalent through his campaign
slogan, 54 40 or fight , referring to the territory that, at the time, was disputed between the United
States and Great Britain, when is modern day Canada and the

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
TO: Cliff O Connor, CEO AcuScan, Inc.
FROM: VP of Organizational Development
SUBJECT: Observations and Recommendations for Optimization Project
DATE: June 30, 2008
Purpose and Scope of Document
The purpose of this document is to provide a basic overview of the current status surrounding the
AcuScan Optimization Project. This document will provide a brief background and summary of the
current situation, and then provide key points relating to the underlying issues. This document will
then outline the options AcuScan has in order to address the project issues and recommend the
most feasible course of action.

The company can split up the project into a series of rollout phases, which will extend the project
timelines, but reduce the workload pressure being placed on the current engineering staff. This
would save the company money in the short term, but could potentially impact their competitive
edge in the long term if the competition develops a similar product first. The other option is to act
on Director of Marketing proposal to hire contractors in order to take on the increased workload.
The company would have a dedicated resource for the project while at the same time allowing the
engineering staff to continue to provide a high level of quality service to existing customers. The
company would have to make a short term budget sacrifice, exacerbating the current budget crisis;
however the new product would launch before the end of the year and give AcuScan the
competitive edge it needs to increase sales over the long term.
It is proposed that AcuScan align budgeting goals to accommodate the current project timelines and
making a small sacrifice in costs to aid in the development by hiring outside contractors.
In order to encourage collaboration between departments, the Director of Marketing must allow that
the contractors are selected and managed by the Senior Engineer, who will be the most
knowledgeable as to the minimal extra man power needed and the skill set required to accomplish
the tasks.

Comparison Of Friendship Between Of Mice And Men
Friendship from Of Mice and Men and Friendship In an Age of Economics
In the modern age friendship comes in many different shapes and sizes. There s the good and
there s the bad. You might even find some types of friendships surprising, for example an
entrepreneurial relationship . In the book Of Mice and Men Lennie and George are friends, but not
very good friends. George is unfortunately friends with Lennie for the wrong reasons.
Friendship, according to Aristotle there are 3 definitions of friendship. Friendship of Utility, thus
friends whose affection is based on utility do not love each other in themselves, but in so far as
some benefit accrues to them from each other. Friendship of Pleasure, And similarly with those
whose friendship is based on pleasure: for instance, we enjoy the society of witty people not
because of what they are in themselves, but because they are agreeable to us. Friendship of the
Good. The perfect form of friendship is that between the good, and those who resemble each other
in virtue. For these friends wish each alike the other s good in respect of their goodness, and they
are good in themselves; but it is those who wish the good of their friends for their friends sake who
are friends in the fullest sense, since they love each other for themselves and not accidentally.

George is the brain Lennie is the brawn. George really doesn t want Lennie with him at some
points of the book although he still manages to tolerate him. Lennie ends up getting BOTH him
and George fired from numerous jobs. Lennie and George have a very bumpy friend ship. One
quote from Of Mice and Men is They render us venerable, and in doing so they add dimensions of
significance to our lives that can only arise from being, in each case, friends with this or that
particular individual, a party to this or that particular

Los Vendidos Sparknotes
A Clash of Social Classes
Los Vendidos, is a one action play written by Luis Valdez. It compares the Hispanic population
using stereotypical characters who are currently on sale at a Used Mexican Lot. It takes place in
California in 1967 in a dense Mexican population. Politics and culture collide together. The Hispanic
population comes to the United States to increase their wealth. This play demonstrates how
Mexican Americans have struggled to find their identity and equality in the United States. (CLC)
Stereotypes and Marxism plays a role in the play.
Miss. Jimenez is the protagonist in the play. She is the secretary that works for Governor Reagan s
office. She oversees finding a Mexican American for the administration. The Mexican American is
needed to help promote business and votes from the Hispanic population. The secretary is Hispanic
herself, but tries to hide her identity. This is shown when the salesman, Honest Sancho, pronounces
her name the correct way and she has a quick response, Don t you speak English? What s wrong
with you? (Vendidos) She doesn t want her name associated with the Mexican culture. Stereotype is
shown when the secretary only wants the Mexican American. She has difficulty with social identity
by rejecting her own culture.
The secretary and the other Hispanic figures have the same culture. Since Miss. Jimenez is
rejecting her own culture and appearing as an American, there is difference between social classes.
This falls under Marxism

Japanese Popular Rock Music And Japanese Culture
Japanese Popular Rock Music
Japanese popular music and Japanese popular culture is heavily influenced by Western culture
through similar characteristics such as instruments, rhythm, style, and language. When listening to
J pop songs, most people tend to think that they might have heard these songs before despite ever
listening to those songs. This familiarity is due to the fact that J pop songs derive from many
aspects of the Western music style. The individuality could come from the arrangement of songs,
voice of singers, differences in language, or some combination of the three. All J pop songs have a
common characteristic of individuality and familiarity signifying that they are similar to existing
music, but these characteristics are also dissimilar in any ways. J Pop is a genre that is both a
unique yet familiar genre of music that many people of different cultures can enjoy.
The Eastern Asian music stylings of J pop often merge with musical stylings of American music.
An example of a J pop music artist is Nano, a bilingual J Pop/J Rock artist, who created songs such
as No Pain No Game and Now or Never from the album N . Both songs exhibit uses electric guitar,
bass, a drum set and lead vocals, which are also used in the Rock genre. The songs also uses
synthesized or electric music, which comes from most Western Pop music. Nano also uses a
multitude of English lyrics as well as Japanese lyrics in her songs, as many J pop artists do. Nano s

The Maltese Front And The Novel Of The Maltese Falcon
The film of the Maltese Falcon and the novel of the Maltese Falcon share some stark differences
along with certain similarities that the film and novel hold. John Huston who directed the film
of the Maltese Falcon shows Sam Spade a little differently as to how Dashiell Hammett portrays
him. Both do share some commonalities between them, yet we see a greater split from novel to
film in the final scene of the Maltese Falcon. The film portrays Spade as this stoic, cold hearted
detective. Yet, the novel displays Spade as a more dominate grabbing man that needs answers
now. The film differs from the novel as we see Spade portrayed in the film as a cold and stoic
character as we see him in the novel as a more dominate and persistent character. As we progress
through the final scene Sam Spadebriskly moves on to alert the authorities about having Cairo and
Gutman on the move. The novel shows Sam after putting the receiver down to appear nervous
he wet his lips and looked down at his hands. Their palms were wet. He filled his deep chest with
air. His eyes we glittering between straightened lids (p. 574). As to the film when we see Spade
hang up the phone he briskly approaches Brigid trying to get as much information out of her as
he can before the police arrive in the film at 1:28:52. As we see in the novel Hammett wanted to
show Spade as being nervous for what is about to happen and for how aggressive he will be in
order to get all of the information needed prior to the police arriving. Huston doesn t show any of
that, but goes straight into getting all of the information out of Brigid as soon as possible.
Leaving a major lack in character for the film Spade as compared to the novel Spade. Next, we
follow to see Spade grabs Brigid and says G d damn you, talk! (p. 575) which shows Spade as a
dominate and demanding individual. The significance of him grabbing executes this notion of
dominance and the meaning of how important this is to Spade. In the film Spade at that moment
wasn t as forceful to get this information out of Brigid. Around 1:29:26 Spade was standing
badgering Brigid with question after question, in addition to asking rhetorical questions that Spade
already knew the answer for. Having Spade in the

Gender Identity As An Axis Of Social Order
Gender is considered an axis of social order. Its categorisation into masculinity and femininity is
social constructed and maintained in everyday life (Clark and Page, 2005; Mackie, 1994). Gender
identity is our innermost understanding of our self as male or female . Most people develop a
gender identity that matched their biological sex (their body). Genderidentity can be affected by,
and is different from one society to another, depending on the way the members of society evaluate
the role of females and males. Our gender identitycan be influenced from the ethnicity of the
group, their cultural background, and family values. Gender like social class and race can be used
to socially categorize people and even lead to prejudice and discrimination. From day to day,
continuous production of gender has been called doing gender (West and Zimmermann, 1987),
meaning that gender is made by us in everyday lives in our interactions with others.
The media does affects and influenced gender identity. For instance children are constantly
bombarded with shows depicting gender stereotype models from toys marketed as for boys or
girls, to children s TV programmes and shows. It is common for children s programmes to
emphasize the role of the make hero who saves the weak female. Children interpret these messages
as real life which shapes their reality, behaviour and expectations of their gender role. However, the
social construction of gender does not happen only, it continues

Sully being the last to leave the plane was showing his concern for everyone who was onboard the plane. While Sully was able to land with everyone intact, the weather was another factor that they had to be taken into consideration. It was in the heart of winter and both the water and air temperature were very cold. As seen in the film two of the passengers tried to swim, while others feel into the cold water. The danger that lies here is the fact that hypothermia, a medical emergency that occurs when your body loses heat faster than it can produce heat, has symptoms of dizziness, and a lack of coordination. • 11. The Issue Of Limited Liability In light of the decision in Prest, this essay will argue that this principle has been taken too far, and it has become too easy for parent companies to escape the obligations of its subsidiaries. It will begin with a discussion of limited liability and examine the when the veil may be pierced after Prest. Next, it will discuss the current arguments calling for reform. The concept of limited liability was conceptualized to promote enterprise through limitation of risk. In many ways, the argument remains applicable today. As a detailed exposition is beyond the scope of this essay, this essay will examine the two major lines of debate. Firstly, the argument that limited liability encourages enterprise is normally linked with passive investors who have no other interest in the company other than that their money is invested within. However, on the opposite spectrum, the power to purchase shares was also given to companies having a separate legal personality. In corporate group scenarios, this essay will support the arguments of Blumberg and Wright that the parent company is not a passive investor , but rather an active force behind the subsidiary. Thus, there is a clear danger, as evidenced in cases such as Adams, that limited liability can encourage risk that is excessive, as owners engage in excessively risky activities [being] protected from liability. This is demonstrated through the observation that directors in privately managed companies stand behind the veil ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Brooks November 17, 2016 the violent myth of appalachia Appalachia may be the most misconceived region in the United States. To many Americans, Appalachia has been thought of as a poverty stricken, backwards, violent region, and to some it still is perceived as such. Often it has been labeled with titles such as hillbilly, redneck, moonshiner, and feudists. Appalachia?s residents are seen as lazy, non trusting, drunk, illiterate, and in need of a savior to pull them out of the darkness into the light. This research paper will seek to challenge the myth of a violent Appalachia by describing documented proof that violence in Appalachia is not, as most thought, a product of its geographical location, or because its people are isolated. Violence in Appalachia was, just as in other areas of America, a result of tensions and frustration that was deep seeded in the fabric of all American society. To understand the concepts of violence in Appalachia, it is imperative to explain how Appalachia is defined. The Appalachian Region, as defined in ARC s authorizing legislation, is a 205,000 square mile region that follows the spine of the Appalachian Mountains from southern New York to northern Mississippi. It is pretty clear that an average voter never reads official plans, and he will never know about tax increases if somebody like Mr. McCain, for example, will not reveal it for public. It would be foolish to assume that an excuse might be that elections are in 2009, and plans for 2011 can be reported in 2011, as candidates should inform their voters about all plans during their presidential term. • 33. Excise A Tumor Poem Analysis The first line in How to Excise a Tumor is don t fall in love with it, whatever you do, and given this poem seems like it is going to be about how to remove a tumor, this advice seems fairly obvious. After all, who would fall in love with something as horrible as a tumor? But for Safiya Sinclair, this is the opening line, the defining line, of this poem and in her poem, How to Excise a Tumor, Safiya Sinclair uses the speakers tumor as a symbol for an unwanted child. Through the poetical devices such as metaphors and imagery, Sinclair weaves a tale of a tumor and its human. How to Excise a Tumor is a relatively short poem of 27 lines. It details what advice the speaker has to those who, presumably, have discovered they have a tumor. She, the speaker, gives suggestions and warnings like don t fall in love with [the tumor] and it will always want more that you can give. This is good advice to those with literal tumors as well as those whose tumors are a bit more metaphorical, as is the speaker s tumor. Her tumor is an undesired child, possibly the product of sexual assault. The speaker says the tumor will move to leech at your nipples, and other parts of you will grow hot to show how the reader s initial uncaring provisions will turn into warmth and affection for the child. As the reader s affection grows and the child make[s] a home in the damp chasms of your heart, the speaker believes you ll begin to see the good in everything, but despite how wonderful that situation might sound, the speaker lets the readers know otherwise. She again warns the reader that the tumor will [make] such a mes of your dreams and to not give in to accidental pleasure. All of the speaker s warnings show that she regrets giving into her tumor and not doing more to get rid of it which creates a theme of unhappiness. That theme is further supported by the metaphors scattered throughout How to Excise a Tumor. One such metaphor is the blind aphid. An aphid is a small bug that feeds destructively on plants and a blind aphid would be particularly undiscerning. Without sight, the aphid chew[s] straight through the core. In other words, the aphid or the tumor continues eating and taking until it has destroyed the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

When listening to J pop songs, most people tend to think that they might have heard these songs before despite ever listening to those songs. The individuality could come from the arrangement of songs, voice of singers, differences in language, or some combination of the three. All J pop songs have a common characteristic of individuality and familiarity signifying that they are similar to existing music, but these characteristics are also dissimilar in any ways. • 45. The Maltese Front And The Novel Of The Maltese Falcon The film of the Maltese Falcon and the novel of the Maltese Falcon share some stark differences along with certain similarities that the film and novel hold. John Huston who directed the film of the Maltese Falcon shows Sam Spade a little differently as to how Dashiell Hammett portrays him. Both do share some commonalities between them, yet we see a greater split from novel to film in the final scene of the Maltese Falcon. The film portrays Spade as this stoic, cold hearted detective. Yet, the novel displays Spade as a more dominate grabbing man that needs answers now. The film differs from the novel as we see Spade portrayed in the film as a cold and stoic character as we see him in the novel as a more dominate and persistent character. As we progress through the final scene Sam Spadebriskly moves on to alert the authorities about having Cairo and Gutman on the move. The novel shows Sam after putting the receiver down to appear nervous he wet his lips and looked down at his hands. Their palms were wet. He filled his deep chest with air. His eyes we glittering between straightened lids (p. 574). As to the film when we see Spade hang up the phone he briskly approaches Brigid trying to get as much information out of her as he can before the police arrive in the film at 1:28:52. As we see in the novel Hammett wanted to show Spade as being nervous for what is about to happen and for how aggressive he will be in order to get all of the information needed prior to the police arriving. Huston doesn t show any of that, but goes straight into getting all of the information out of Brigid as soon as possible. Leaving a major lack in character for the film Spade as compared to the novel Spade. Next, we follow to see Spade grabs Brigid and says G d damn you, talk! (p. 575) which shows Spade as a dominate and demanding individual. The significance of him grabbing executes this notion of dominance and the meaning of how important this is to Spade. In the film Spade at that moment wasn t as forceful to get this information out of Brigid. Around 1:29:26 Spade was standing badgering Brigid with question after question, in addition to asking rhetorical questions that Spade already knew the answer for. Having Spade in the ... Gender like social class and race can be used to socially categorize people and even lead to prejudice and discrimination. From day to day, continuous production of gender has been called doing gender (West and Zimmermann, 1987), meaning that gender is made by us in everyday lives in our interactions with others. The media does affects and influenced gender identity. For instance children are constantly bombarded with shows depicting gender stereotype models from toys marketed as for boys or girls, to children s TV programmes and shows.
