Copper Release Essay
METHODS AND APPROACH
A. Research Objective #1: Determine the Rate and Amount of Copper Release from Treated Wood by
Fungal Exposure to Four Copper Tolerant Brown Rot Fungi
Introduction. In this objective, rate and amount of copper release will be measured while fungus is
growing on copper based treatments. The working hypothesis is that the selected four brown rot fungi
(Postia placenta, Serpula lacrymans, Gloeophyllum trabeum, Fibroporia radiculosa) have different
copper removal degrees in ACQ and CCA treated wood. I will test my working hypothesis by using
the experimental approach of measurement of copper release. Fungus growth will be conducted on
ACQ and CCA treatments, and percentage of copper release will be analyzed by Inductively Coupled
Plasma (ICP). The rationale underlying this objective is that without the analysis of copper release
from treated wood, it is highly unlikely ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For this, copper will be determined at the beginning of the study in treated samples which will be
reserved for ICP analysis. The samples which are exposed to fungus will be analyzed to determine the
percentage copper release after extraction. These exposed samples will be microwave digested
depending on the AWPA standard A7 method (AWPA 2012b). For extraction, the samples (around 1g)
will be weighed into a microwave digestion tube and nitric acid will be added on to that. Digestion
tubes will be sealed into digestion vessels and placed into a microwave oven for a pre programmed
digestion sequence. After the digestion was complete, each vessel will be quantitatively brought up to
100 ml volume with DI water. The digested samples will be analyzed using a Perkin Elmer Optima
2100 DV Inductively Coupled Plasma Spectrometer (ICP) OES to determine percentage Cu release
after bioremediation. The percent reduction of Cu in the treated ground wood will be calculated based
on the initial amount of Cu in the ground wood before

Chicago Bears Research Paper
The Green Bay Packers will host the Chicago Bears on Thursday, November 26 in the third and final
game for Thanksgiving Day 2015, at the Lambeau Field. It s the longtime NFC North contender
between Green Bay Packers and Chicago Bears.
The Chicago Bears who nearly won the game over the Denver Broncos last week and the Green Bay
Packers were expected to perform another win again following last week s fight of the Minnesota
Vikings. The game wasn t of any interest, as quarterback Aaron Rodgers completed less than 50
percent of his throws.
The 30 13 win over the Vikings last week saw the Packers end a three game slide, and allowed them to

Analysis Of Rainbow s End And Jane Harrison s Rainbows End
As a result of discovery, individuals are opened to the opportunity to transform and in doing so, renew
perceptions of themselves and those around them. In having renewed perceptions, individuals are
automatically exposed to new experiences and perspectives, and as a result undergo personal growth.
Change is an aspect of discovery that is enabled by past experiences and in this, transformation is
achieved. Through Jane Harrison s Rainbow s End, a 1950 s play about three generations of an
Aboriginal family, and Gwen Harwood s Father and Child, a poem exploring the transformation of a
child we are able to explore the way change is inflicted through experiences of discovery and the
responses we find as a result of this. Maturation and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Feelings of sadness and sympathy towards Dolly and the situation she is in. Individuals may feel a
sense of loss, where they are encouraged to rediscover something about themselves and essentially,
gain a new understanding of themselves and those around them. Through the sexual assault scene, we
establish that Dolly has lost all the innocence she once endured. As a result of this loss, she matures
and transforms into who she becomes. This is shown through Harrison s use of symbolism. When
Dolly s clothes are stripped off her, this shows essentially the stripping away of her innocence. From
this we see that she is no longer a young girl, but a woman. We see this in the the way she defies
Jungi. Through Dolly s discovery and transformation, her emotional state is threatened, thus causing
her ultimate change. This concept of Dolly s loss of innocence transforming into a growth of maturity
implies that growth is compulsory as a result of a loss or significant event in an individual s life. Some
discoveries may be the result of significant experiences that one undergoes. In moving on from these
experiences, the discoveries can be provoked and have the ability to open the eyes of individuals.
Gwen Harwood s Father and Child explores the growth and maturation of a child. Harwood shows the
juxtaposition between innocence and maturity and the way that discovering this deepens the
perception one has of the world. The

totally agree with your post by not having the right FIT in an organization can cause problems. I have
seen UNFIT employees directly or indirectly cause stress, created misunderstandings between the
employee and of his/family, and I have witnessed how they created tensions and conflicts and hence
affected the efficiency of other employees within the organization. One of the aspects of the Scripps

Scripps is engaging in a culture fit. Too often people just want a job, what some job candidates never

A Historical Analysis Of August Wilson
As Sam Pollard, director of the PBS special August Wilson: The Ground of Which I Stand, asserts,
August Wilson may be regarded as an American Shakespeare, for his body of work really covers the
whole 20th century of American history...and there is no other American playwright who did that body
of work over a period of time. (American Masters, August Wilson: The Ground of Which I Stand)
While such grand comparisons may or may not be merited, August Wilson s Pittsburg Cycle stands as
a literary, historical, and cultural feat in which Wilson illustrates, teaches, and preserves the African
American experience through an exploration into the poetics of the Blues. No literary scholar would
deny this claim; and this assertion remains completely ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
You don t sing to feel better. You sing cause that s a way of understanding life.
CUTLER: That s right. You get that understanding and you done got a grip on life to where you can
hold your head up and go on to see what else life got to offer.
MA RAINEY: The blues help you get out of bed in the morning. You get up knowing you aint alone.
Tire s something else in the world. Something s been added by that song. This be an empty world
without the blues. I take that emptiness and try to fill it up with something. (Wilson, 82 83)
In this respect, the blues functions as a means of moving through suffering. Just as musicians in the
band play the blues, the blues makes instruments out of the musicians. Levee, a brash trumpeter, wants
to move on from traditional blues music and into more energizing Jazz, an increasingly popular genre.
Levee wants to neglect the past, and the blues function as a reawakening to the dark reality of African
American history. Being fully cognizant of one s ancestral origins and how understanding how it may
help in the present is ultimately not important to Levee I know he ain t talking about me. You don t see
me running around with no bone in my nose. (Wilson, 32) Larry Neal, the author of The Black Arts
Movement published in Drama Review, elaborates on this connection between the Blues and history:
History, like the blues, demands that we witness the painful events of our prior lives; and that

Siddhartha Gautama Research Paper
Siddhartha Gautama was the first person to discover Buddhism in the late 6th century B.C.E. He was
originally known as a spiritual teacher when he began teaching followers about the religion. As time
passed, he was then referred to as the Buddha and followers viewed him more as a savior than a
teacher. A savior is identified as a religious figure who saves someone from danger, where as a
spiritual teacher gives knowledge to a person with little understanding of spiritual facts. The same
reason is given for Jesus as the messiah for those who practice Christianity. Both of these groups
consider Jesus and Buddha, Saviors. Followers of Buddha were taught how to be kind, gentle, and
how to have a positive mind that cares for their lives. Buddha s teachings were clear and gave
suggestions on how people were supposed to live. Spiritual teachers only focus on teaching people the
idea of spirit. Buddha s work was focused on teaching people about the holy world and how to live a
life without suffering. He cared for his followers and believed in educating them in a positive way.

Joseph Rudyard Kipling Research Paper
Joseph Rudyard Kipling, a British writer and poet, was born on December 30, 1865, in Bombay, India.
He died on January 18, 1936, in London, England. He is considered one of the most dominant literary
figures in Victorian literature. Kipling was the eldest of two children, son of John Lockwood Kipling,
principal of the Jeejeebyhoy School of Art, and Alice Macdonald, friends of followers of the Pre
Raphaelite movement. Although Kipling s first five years of life were borderline perfect, in 1871 his
happy world took a nosedive. To begin schooling, his parents sent him and his younger sister, Trix, to
England; when they arrived, they were placed at Lorne Lodge, a boarding house in Southsea. At the

Essay on Fools Rush In and My Big Fat Greek Wedding
Fools Rush In and My Big Fat Greek Wedding
Every movie that is written has a certain attitude to it. Some of these are intended to be laughed at and
others are meant to be heartfelt. Though each movie is written with its own voice, so to speak, many
have similar plots or themes. The two movies Fools Rush In and My Big Fat Greek Wedding are two
of these movies that have similarities in the themes, but not necessarily in the plots. Both of these
romantic comedies have strong religious backgrounds on the woman s side of the family and
differences in culture. The main theme between these two movies is the quest for happiness and all the
troubles that must be overcome to achieve it.
In the movie Fools Rush In Salma Hayek and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Toula has been raised in a Greek home and still has not married, though all of her siblings have. In the
Greek culture a woman is to marry a Greek man, have Greek babies and feed everyone in the family
for the rest of their lives. Since Toula has not married she is living with her parents and working in
their family restaurant. While working as a hostess she encounters Ian and falls head over heels in love
with him. The problem is that he is not Greek; he is actually what her parents would consider a rebel.
She hides him from her family for as long as possible, but the truth is revealed. Her family makes it
known that without conversion he will not be accepted into their Greek home. He follows through and
in the end they are joyful in the outcome of their lives together. They also have Greek children and
Toula is able to be the ideal Greek woman.
These two movies both deal with similar issues. In both movies the women are struggling between
what their hearts are telling them and what they have been raised to know their entire lives. The
struggle to overcome the fact that their intended may not be accepted is one that is handled with many
mixed emotions. Toula is unable to face her family and admit she is seeing Ian, while Isabel just
eloped and caused family disturbances. The religions of the women differ greatly from the men, much
like the cultures. Toula had been raised entirely Greek and she knew no other way to be while Ian, on
the other hand, was

Gender Representation Of Female Gender Roles Affect...
Despite what seems to be positive empowerment of females alike, Mulan in fact does not encourage
the individual empowerment of women through separation of traditional gender stereotypes. In fact,
Mulan emphasizes the roles between binary genders that ensure privilege of men over women.
Additionally, the film shows how such stereotypical gender roles affect society through social
oppression of the minority group. Throughout the film, it is obvious that, although it is possible to
have gender performativity, there is disempowerment of women and a man s life is that which is more
significant than a woman s. For the duration of the movie, the idea of masculinity is emphasized and
its ideas are reinforced. Notably, when Shang, the captain of the army, sings the song I ll Make a Man
out of You (Wilder et al., 1998a), the portrayal of the stereotypical representation of masculinity is
obvious. The lyrics Did they send me daughters, when I asked for sons? further points to the notion
that there is only one gender that is worthy and appropriate to fight (1998). Additionally, the captain s
main goal is to make a man out of each member in the army. The assertion is that femininity is not
acceptable; the womanly recruits have been transformed into real men in order to competently fight
the war. Towbin et al., supports this notion in that men and boys are portrayed as rescuers who save
the day (2004). Although the film appears to be supporting feminist ideals as

Persuasive Short Story
Are we there yet, Mom? Annabelle asked impatiently in the car.
Annabelle, sweetie, you know that to go to Vermont it takes almost 12 hours. We just left home a hour
ago, and you are already complaining. Besides, we haven t passed that pit stop that we always stop at.
You know, the one with the big playground. her mom said.
I know, she said over exaggerating, but I can t wait to see Lauren and Kyle. The last time I saw them
was when we went on vacation together in Hawaii.
Didn t you video chat last night with them? I remember hearing you squeal because you were excited.
her dad said.
Well, yes, but I meant in person, Dad. she replied.
Well in 11 hours, you ll see them in the cabin. Now get some sleep tonight before we reach our pit
stop so you will have some energy tomorrow. said her mom.
Ok, Annabelle said as she laid down on the backseat of the car. She watched the nighttime sky filled
with stars pass her, as she drifted off to a peaceful sleep. Her dream that night was a weird one. She
was in an enchanted forest, but she was lost. The trees glowing, and the sky as bright as the moon. She
saw all the animals that lived in the forest come to her, asking for food even though she didn t have
any. She put her hand out and all the animals ate something that she didn t recognize. It was weird, but
somewhat amazing. Before she knew it, it was already morning, and they had already reached their pit
stop.
Come on Annabelle, we better get some food. You must

A Brief Note On Unemployment And Minimum Wage Essay
Unemployment and Minimum Wage Both the microeconomics and the macroeconomics theories
dictate that an increase in the minimum wage will directly impact the rate of unemployment by
shooting upwards. As of the moment, there is a heated debate on whether the Congress should pass a
bill that seeks to increase United States minimum wage. The consequent change will eventually have
both positive as well as negative impacts on various economical aspects particularly unemployment.
As for this paper, the focus will be narrowed down to examining the link between minimum wage and
unemployment rates across states and also highlighting the current state of unemployment in both Los
Angeles and Seattle. In reference to microeconomic theory, the bare minimum wage is considered the
price level on top of the equilibrium that is set by the demand and supply curve. A slight increase in
the minimum wage greatly impacts the quantity of workers supplied in the economy by significantly
increasing due to the initial heave of interest to enroll in the workforce. Similarly, there will be a
decline in the quantity of demanded labor given that the marginal labor cost will directly increase as
the minimum wage increases. As a result of the increased quantity supplied and the subsequent
decrease in demanded quantity, there will be a creation of labor surplus in the workforce, culminating
in the increased rates of unemployment. With an increase in the minimum wage on top of the normal
equilibrium in the

becomes increasingly clear that she might end up succumbing to becoming comanche herself via
Stockholm syndrome. The idea her becoming a comanche would be unbearable to him, and he says
throughout The Searchers, much to protest of his sidekick Martin Pauley, that he would put her down

Comparison of US Bill of Rights and The Canadian Charter...
BACKGROUND OF THE BILL OF RIGHTS
The United States Bill of Rights came into being as a result of a promise made by the Fathers of
Confederation to the states during the struggle for ratification of the Constitution in 1787 88. A great
number of the states made as a condition for their ratification, the addition of amendments, which
would guarantee citizens protection of their rights against the central government. Thus, we have a
rather interesting situation in which the entrenchment of a bill of rights in the American Constitution
was done by the virtual demand of the states, they themselves fearing a central government which was
not legally constrained and restricted as far as its powers were concerned.
The resulting Bill of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The entrenchment of rights in the Canadian Constitution comes after long experience with a system of
parliamentary supremacy. The American judicial tradition of treating the written constitution as
fundamental law cannot have an instant Canadian counterpart. Thus, it does not follow that the
Canadian courts will necessarily claim a role comparable to that of courts in the United States, nor is it
clear that the representative bodies in Canada would tolerate such a judicial assertion of power.
Opposition by government bodies to the Charter have already occurred in Canada, where the Parti
Quebecois government of Quebec invoked the notwithstanding the Canadian Charter of Rights and
Freedoms clause for the purpose of protecting their language laws from attack under the charter. This
report will attempt to note some of the common and distinctive features of the text of the two
constitutions as well as to how they differ.
Three major classes of rights are protected by both the Canadian and United States constitutions.
Freedom of expression, religion, and assembly are safeguarded in part I section 2 of the Canadian
Constitution Act, 1982, and in the First Amendment of the American Constitution. The Legal Rights
listed in sections 7 14 of the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms, protecting criminal suspects
and defendants by various procedural safeguards, are paralleled by American rights to have counsel

Allusions in Bartleby the Scrivener by Herman Melville Essay
In Bartleby, the Scrivener the author, Herman Melville, uses indirect references to hint to many
historical, literary, and biblical events. Bartleby, the Scrivener contains many allusions about
important events that help connect this fictional story to actual events in Melville s time period,
before, and beyond. Melville uses allusions frequently throughout Bartleby, the Scrivener to help build
connections with the real world and the fictitious world of this short story. One of the biggest allusions
in Bartleby, the Scrivener is the comparison of Bartleby to Jesus. In the story the narrator is confronted
by the new owner of the law offices. He asks the narrator if he knows who Bartleby is. The narrator

He rolled a big stone in front of the entrance to the tomb. Then he went away (NIV, Matthew 27:60).
Cicero, a very successful Roman politician, also plays a very significant role in the story of Bartleby,
the Scrivener . The narrator has a bust of Cicero in his office connecting the two cultures; the Western
and Eastern cultures however are strikingly different. At around 100 B.C. Cicero led the Roman
Empire in a very structured and civilized way. The Roman Empire s governmental structure is very
similar to the United Stated government because they both include three branches. The Judiciary, the
Executive, and the Legislative branches are included in both civilizations; however the Roman s
devised this system more than 2,000 years before the United States. They also both have elected
officials who are either elected or are appointed by the Consuls. The Roman Government was very
orderly and organized, the exact opposite of how it was in Bartleby s office. This small detail in the
story creates more contrast and helps us better understand the changes that can happen in such a short
amount of time. The law office was a very orderly place, it just takes one person to throw any well
oiled system off balance. The inclusions of these allusions are very subtle and are not always obvious,
however Melville took the time to add these into the story to further build connections with the story
world and the real world to make the story

It differs from client server downloads (the standard save as protocol you see in web browsers, for
instance) in that it does not access a server and download a file that is directly stored on that server. It
differs from other peer to peer (distributed) protocols, such as the original iteration of Napster or the
newer Kazaa, by using a truly distributed means of finding the trackers.
Trackers report on who has what of a particular torrent s information and may actively maintain
torrents health. The actual torrents are small files that tell the client where to find the actual files.
People who have the actual files and are willing to allow you to download from them are called seeds.
Seeds help the growth of the torrent by spreading its information to people who are downloading it,
called leechers. Everyone beginning to download a torrent is initially a leecher. Some trackers may cut
your download off if you never seed while continuing to leech. It all sounds complicated but is behind
the scenes and very seamless, as you ll see.
An Overview of Clients To get started with torrenting, a term that s come to be used commonly and
summarizes the act of downloading and using torrents, you need a client. Clients allow the tracker
information to be processed onto your computer and generally smooth the experience by automating
many processes and managing your downloads.

Garibaldi Unification Essay
The background on Risorgimento and Giuseppi Garibaldi s role in the unification of Italy sparked my
curiosity about the impact unification had on national and regional identities in Italy, and the effect
these identities have on the way the world perceives the people of Italy as opposed to the way they see
each other. It seems to me that Garibaldi and the unification process must have had a profound effect
on the people of Italy and the way they see themselves fitting into the nation state as a whole. I would
imagine that many of these questions do not have clear answers, but rather complicated explanations
that lead to even more questioning. With Garibaldi s movement spreading across the regions of Italy, I
can imagine that not all ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Another interesting way of looking at Italian identities from an international perspective is examining
the way other nations see Italy as having either distinct regional differences or a larger collective
identity. If there are so many different regional identities, where did the Italian identity known in the
United States come from? If each region has their own culture, how can we claim to know Italian
food, music, art, or any other cultural element? I would imagine that much of the food in an area of
Italy is dependent on what is produced in that region of the nation, and therefore could not be
encompassed by the umbrella of Italian food. I know that many Italian foods are named after the
region where they are produced, such as parmigiano and Marsala wine, thus preserving some of the
regional identity in the name. So where did this larger culture come from, is what we know as Italian
food really the food from a specific region or something else entirely?
It would be interesting to study how this national identity emerged over time, and does its presence
mean that some people no longer care about their regional loyalty? I would expect that as generations
become further and further removed from the time before unification, more and more people would
identify more with Italy on a national scale rather than their specific regions. Yet, in many places
regional pride and

the story are the women. The women play significant role in the Iliad despite being viewed as
property. However, they were not only property, they are also the highest form of honor, markers of
social status, wives, war prizes, caregivers, mothers, partners and slaves. The Iliad has very few

Throughout The Iliad Helen plays critical role in the story, after all this war is for her and about her.
Helen falls into the category of women who have some type of control over their lives. The war

form of honor. Throughout the book every time there is a scene with Helen interacting with other

spoke her mind about the war, voiced her concerns and shared her opinion of Paris actions openly,
which indicates that she is equal. Unlike Helen, Briseis is different and has little to no control over her
life or faith. Briseis does not fight, voice her opinion, protest or question the treatment she receives
from Achilles and other men. Nonetheless, her role in the story was significant because Achilles

Effects Of The Battle Of Coral Harbor On Pearl Harbor
The Japanese saw the U.S. as a threat to their expansion aspirations in Asia. Their strategy was to find
a way to impede the U.S. long enough to finish their goal. This resulted in the attack of Pearl Harbor.
During this time, Japanese also set up offenses in American controlled regions in the Pacific such as
the Philippines, Guam and Midway islands. Under the leadership of General Douglass MacArthur,
some battles ended in defeat like the Philippines. American and Filipino prisoners of the Battle of
Bataan resulted in a Death March. Prisoners would either die going to the camps or at the camps. The
war started looking brighter with the Battle of the Coral Sea, with the US slowing down Japanese
advancement. Soon, the Japanese s plan to knock

The Dehumanization Of Slavery By Solomon Northup
In this book, the author delves into the horrors of slavery and what it really meant to be a slave. The
cruelty that Solomon Northup endures goes beyond just blunt force beatings but extends to mental
anguish. Solomon s case was not a unique one, but it is still an important one.
He was once a free man but he finds himself being torn away from his family and thrown into the
harsh and unforgiving world of slavery. The main focus of this paper will be the parts of slavery that
were dehumanizing. This paper will look how the slaves were treated before they were sent off to the
plantations, as well as how they were treated at the plantations and what life was like there. It will also
explore the slaves themselves and who slavery affected ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Finally, the plantation that stood out the most, and the one in which the worst things happened, was
the plantation owned by Edwin Epps. Edwin Epps was a truly deplorable human being. He was a
drunk who enjoyed beating his slaves for the most outlandish reasons. The smallest slip up would be
met with the harshest of punishment. He was often reprimanded by other slave owners for his overly
harsh punishments of the slaves. This emphasis how abusive he truly was. Edwin
Epps often came close to killing Solomon Northrup forcing Solomon to result to self defense which
would result in him being harshly punished. One of the most difficult things that Northrup
experienced was the whipping of other slaves.
Up to the time of my departure, I had to wear a whip about my neck in the field. If Epps was present, I
dare not show any lenity, not having the Christian fortitude of a certain well known
Uncle Tom sufficiently to brave his wrath, by refusing to perform his office (pg 162). Having

Jailbreaking Persuasive Speech
Being able to customize your iPhone in any way possible without any backlash would probably be
something everybody wants to do. Some people just want iPhones to be part of the crowd. Other
people jailbreak their iPhones to stand out in their own way. Customization of an iPhone is a key way
to stand out. The way to customize an iPhone anyway is to jailbreak it and have Cydia installed. The
only thing stopping you from jailbreaking your iPhone is the Apple Company, they make jailbreaking
hard for everybody. Cydia Jailbreaking should be considered a positive addition to Apple products.
Cydia is an app that is installed with the most common Pangu and Taig jailbreaks. Jailbreaking your
iPhone notes that Cydia is an application installed when you jailbreak your iOS device that provides
access to third party applications not submitted to/approved by Apple (Breen). The application allows
you to customize your iOS device in ways never even thought of. The installation of Cydia gives you
full control over the jailbroken device. Jailbreaks can t be developed by just one person.
Taig and Pangu are jailbreak development teams. Rachit states that iOS 7.1 was released in the wake
of this jailbreaking which remained unbroken for some time until, Pangu, a Chinese jailbreak hit the
Apple ( iOS Jailbreaking ). In November 2014, the TaiG team released their ... Show more content on

Ryan White
Ryan White Ryan White may not have lived a long life, but his life definitely made an impact on our
nation and the world. Ryan faced a life full of discrimination and pain, but he learned how to
overcome everything. Ryan Wayne Wright was born on December 6, 1971 in Kokomo, Indiana, to
Jeanne Elaine Hale and Hubert Wayne White. Ryan was only 6 days old when doctors diagnosed him
with a severe form of type A hemophilia. Hemophilia is a blood disease that causes the sufferer s
blood cannot clot and minor injuries can cause them to even bleed to death. Because Ryan had
hemophilia, he had to receive blood transfusions of Factor VIII, a product of blood that aids in
clotting. Although Ryan had this severe disease, he could still go about his ... Show more content on

Threats continued from locals, and the Whites finally decided to leave Kokomo when a bullet fired
through their living room. They moved to Cicero, Indiana in 1987, where he attended Hamilton
Heights High School. He was welcomed there with open arms because people in Cicero were more
educated about AIDS and how it was actually spread. Ryan s disputes with his old school had captured
national media attention. Between 1985 and 1987, news stories about AIDS had doubled, and the
public was becoming more aware of what it really was and how it was actually spread. White became
known as the poster boy for AIDS because people had never seen someone like Ryan with AIDS.
AIDS was usually associated to homosexuals, but Ryan put a new face on it. He was just a normal
teenager that had to battle with his disease. Not only did Ryan catch the attention of the media, but
also of celebrities. Ryan caught some big stars attention such as Michal Jackson, Elton John, and John
Mellencamp. He even met with the president, Ronald Reagan. These celebrities, and many more, were
often seen with Ryan at AIDS fund raisers and promotions. They also gave him money and gifts, Even
though Ryan got all of this publicity, he didn t necessarily like it. White stated that he disliked the
spotlight, hated that many people blamed his mother for his sickness, and said that he would trade all
the attention to be free of his disease any day. Despite hating the attention, he still used his notoriety

Construction of the Child through Character in Milne s...
In this book there are who different characters of Christopher Robin (CR). There is, in one realm of
narration, CR the listener of the story and in another, there is CR the character in the story. These two
characters are quite different. CR, the child over whom the narrator can exercise adult authority is shy,
listens to stories, takes baths and plays with toys while the CR the character is the main authority, goes
to parties, expeditions and heroic rescue missions.
CR the character seems to possess similar characteristics of the adult narrator. The adult narrator is not
only the symbol of authority but is also nurturing. With reference to authority characteristics, the adult
narrator has the power to begin and end the story and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When Pooh s head is stuck in the vase CR laughs at first before helping him out. These mistakes as
well as the spelling errors are seen only by the adult reader just as CR can see the amusing errors of
the animals. These mistakes may suggests the adult view of childhood where children make foolish
and amusing mistakes from which they will eventually learn. By appointing this position of authority
to CR the character suggests that the narrator not only appeals to CR the listener and other listeners
but also gives them a character to strive to be like. This then leads to another characteristic of CR the
character as nurturing as something that listeners could strive to be like.
Just as the adult narrator is concerned about CR the listener s sensitive emotions and vulnerability, CR
the character also shows sensitivity to the animals emotions. CR is described by the narrator as one of
the `nicest people . He is an emotional, warm and loving child as he `rushes into the bears arms .
Showing sensitivity to Winnie the Pooh s feelings, CR humours Pooh when he plays along with his
rain cloud idea so as not to criticize and hurt his feelings. When Pooh sticks in Rabbit s hole, CR reads
stories to comfort the bear. When Pooh s sense of self worth weakens, CR provides comfort e.g. you
re the best bear in the world said Christopher Robin soothingly . When the other animals have
problems, it is CR on whom they all rely for help. To them, CR provides a

Dirty Harry Film Techniques
I know what you re thinking; Did he fire six shots or only five? Well, to tell you the truth, in all this
excitement, I have kind of lost track myself. But being that this is a .44 Magnum, the most powerful
handgun in the world, and would blow your head clean off, you ve got to ask yourself one question:
Do I feel lucky? Well, do ya, punk (Siegel, 1971)? During my research I found out that this is one of
the most popular movie quotes. Dirty Harry is a film directed by Don Siegel. Client Eastwood stars as
Harry Callahan in the film. The scene starts off with a picture of a police badge. This sets the tone of
the film because immediately you know that it s a film amount an officer or police department. The
film begins with the murder of a woman in a swimming pool. Harry Callahan finds a ransom message
demanding one hundred thousand dollars from the city. The killer, named Scorpio also promises for
every day that the ransom isn t paid, he will commit another murder. Callahan is then assigned to the

History of The Cadillac
Cadillac is a name known worldwide, and is valued across the world by many car enthusiasts. Cadillac
has been one of the top leaders in luxury vehicles since its start in 1902. Over its 114 year existence,
the brand has put out many luxury cars that are top of the line to this day. These models include the
Escalade, and the CT6. Cadillac is one of the most unique luxury car brands, as it one of the only
luxury brands that are produced in the United States. So given this background information, one
would have to assume that the Cadillac brand has a substantial amount of history, so I present to you...

According to conceptcarz.com, the Runabout AND Tonneau both ran on a single cylinder engine that
ran on only about 6.5 horsepower, but could likely go up to 10 horsepower. At the time, the engine
that Cadillac ran on was nicknamed The Little Hercules About 2,400 models of the Runabout and
Tonneau were sold in 1903, giving Cadillac a very good start in the automobile industry. I think the
reason for Cadillac s huge early success was that the car was truly one of a kind. It came with the
newest technology of it s age, and offered a look and feel of luxury like no other car on the market
could ve possibly offered. According to the Runabout and Tonneau official Wikipedia page, the one
cylinder engine that Cadillac produced for the two debut models were only offered from 1903 1908.
This is interesting because 1908 was still before the first Chevrolet was made. So just think about this,
Cadillac was already moving on from single cylinder engines while Chevrolet still hadn t been
founded or produced their debut vehicle. To me that is just insane, considering the fact that Chevrolet
who is owned by General Motors are now partners, and basically own the Cadillac brand! Oh how the
roles have flipped over the

Segmentation And The Domain Independent Partitioning Of An...
Segmentation The important aim of image segmentation is the domain independent partitioning of an
image into a set of disjoint regions that can be visually differentiated, homogeneous and meaningful
with respect to some characteristics or computed property such as grey level, texture or colour to
enable easy image analysis. Image segmentation is a useful tool in many realms including industry,
health care, astronomy, and various other fields. Segmentation in concept is a very simple idea.
Simply looking at an image, one can tell what regions are contained in a picture. Is it a building, a
person, a cell, or just simply background? Visually it is very easy to determine what a region of
interest is and what is not. Doing so with a computer algorithm on the other hand is not so easy. How
do you determine what defines a region? What features distinguish one region from another? What
determines how many regions you have in a given image? Discontinuity and similarity/homogeneity
are two basic properties of the pixels in relation to their local neighbourhood used in many
segmentation methods. The segmentation methods that are based on discontinuity property of pixels
are considered as boundary or edges based techniques and that are based on similarity or homogeneity
are region based techniques. We have intentionally separated thresholding technique from region
based due the usage of histogram and its simplicity. A lot of limitations are faced while applying
segmentation namely:

Hurricane Katrin The Hurricane
INTRODUCTION:
Early in the morning on August 29, 2005, Hurricane Katrina struck the Gulf Coast of the United
States. The storm itself did a great deal of damage, but its aftermath was catastrophic. Levee breaches
led to massive flooding, and many people charged that the federal government was slow to meet the
needs of the people affected by the storm. Hundreds of thousands of people in Louisiana, Mississippi
and Alabama were displaced from their homes, and experts estimate that Katrina caused more than
$150 billion in damage.[1]
HURRICANE KATRINA: BEFORE THE STORM:
Katrina at first shaped over the Bahamas on Aug. 23, 2005, as a tropical sorrow. A decently
characterized band of storm mists started to wrap around the north side of the storm s flow focus in the
early morning hours of Aug. 24. The storm was named Tropical Storm Katrina. The day preceding
Katrina hit, New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin issued the city s first ever obligatory clearing request. He
likewise pronounced that the Superdome, a stadium found on moderately high ground close
downtown, would serve as a haven of final resort for individuals who couldn t leave the city. By dusk,
very nearly 80 percent of the city s populace had emptied. Around 10,000 had looked for sanctuary in
the Superdome, while countless others decided to endure the storm at home.[2]
When it went to southern Florida on Aug. 25, Katrina was a moderate Category 1 typhoon. While it
brought on some flooding and losses two individuals were

Busch Inbev Merger
In May of 2016, The European Commission signed off on Anheuser Busch InBev s more than $100
billion merger with SABMiller after the companies agreed to sell SABMiller s premium brands in
Europe and some other European operations (Bray). The merging of SABMiller and AB Inbev create
the worlds largest beer company accounting for approximately 30% of beer industry sales (Bray).
Margrethe Vestager, the commissioner in charge of European competition policy defended the
decision to allow the merger to go through by stating Today s decision will ensure that competition is
not weakened in these markets and that E.U. consumers are not worse off....Europeans buy around 125
billion euros of beer every year, so even a relatively small price increase could cause considerable
harm to consumers (Bray).
The European Commission believed that allowing the merger was in the best interest of both
consumers and for the beer market itself. I wholeheartedly disagree with that decision. Consolidating
firms only decreases competition. John Colley, associate dean at Warwick Business School agrees,
Generally speaking, as industries consolidate down to fewer players, prices increase because there is
less competition... You tend to end up with less choice of products too (Thomas). There are four major
European beer brewers and with this merger two of the largest are now consolidated. The
consolidation significantly increased the number of national markets where the merged entity and the
two

American River Pirates and Their Influence on Pioneer Life
When I think of pirates, I think of the Caribbean Sea or the Gulf of Aden. I don t think of the Ohio
River. (Lepper) Mark Twain lived during a time when hearing someone s relation of a river pirate in
America was typical, and stores along the rivers were frequently being pillaged. He had much
experience on the rivers due to his early profession, and witnessed first hand the crimes that they
committed. Twain expressed his thoughts toward piracy through his literature, written around the time
that these greedy bandits took place. In the late 18th century, river pirates roamed the Mississippi and
Ohio Rivers, hunting for pioneers traveling down the river with their cargo. A common location for
them to reside was a large tavern referred ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They fought in the American Revolution on the side of the British, but it was said that the only reason
why the joined was because of all the violence involved. While fighting they participated in burning
farms, raping women, and pillaging. After the war they were falsely accused of murder by a man
named Moses Stegall and placed in jail, however they escaped and discovered Cave In Rock when
they were on the run (Weiser). Here they captured many travelers coming down the river and killed
many of them. One time they even took a few ashore, blindfolded and tied one to a horse, and scared
the horse off a bluff of over a hundred feet high. Eventually they were driven out of a cave by other
outlaws just because they committed so many unpleasant acts. (Ailinani) Today, around the area of
Cave In Rock, many legends of the pirates are still told. Nearby locations were also named after the
pirates that once resided there. For example, a road was named Harpe s Head Road because this was
where Micajah was decapitated and his head was stuck on a pole by John Lieper and Moses Stegal.
There are also locations that are named Harpe s Hill and Harpe s House. These are all popular tourist
attractions, and Cave In Rock and the park around it was named a state park in 1929 in southern
Illinois, as seen in the picture to the right. Many books have also been written describing the cave s
history,

  • 2. Copper Release Essay METHODS AND APPROACH A. Research Objective #1: Determine the Rate and Amount of Copper Release from Treated Wood by Fungal Exposure to Four Copper Tolerant Brown Rot Fungi Introduction. In this objective, rate and amount of copper release will be measured while fungus is growing on copper based treatments. The working hypothesis is that the selected four brown rot fungi (Postia placenta, Serpula lacrymans, Gloeophyllum trabeum, Fibroporia radiculosa) have different copper removal degrees in ACQ and CCA treated wood. I will test my working hypothesis by using the experimental approach of measurement of copper release. Fungus growth will be conducted on ACQ and CCA treatments, and percentage of copper release will be analyzed by Inductively Coupled Plasma (ICP). The rationale underlying this objective is that without the analysis of copper release from treated wood, it is highly unlikely ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For this, copper will be determined at the beginning of the study in treated samples which will be reserved for ICP analysis. The samples which are exposed to fungus will be analyzed to determine the percentage copper release after extraction. These exposed samples will be microwave digested depending on the AWPA standard A7 method (AWPA 2012b). For extraction, the samples (around 1g) will be weighed into a microwave digestion tube and nitric acid will be added on to that. Digestion tubes will be sealed into digestion vessels and placed into a microwave oven for a pre programmed digestion sequence. After the digestion was complete, each vessel will be quantitatively brought up to 100 ml volume with DI water. The digested samples will be analyzed using a Perkin Elmer Optima 2100 DV Inductively Coupled Plasma Spectrometer (ICP) OES to determine percentage Cu release after bioremediation. The percent reduction of Cu in the treated ground wood will be calculated based on the initial amount of Cu in the ground wood before ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It s the longtime NFC North contender between Green Bay Packers and Chicago Bears. The Chicago Bears who nearly won the game over the Denver Broncos last week and the Green Bay Packers were expected to perform another win again following last week s fight of the Minnesota Vikings. The game wasn t of any interest, as quarterback Aaron Rodgers completed less than 50 percent of his throws. The 30 13 win over the Vikings last week saw the Packers end a three game slide, and allowed them to pull up level alongside the Vikings at the top of the division. Running back Eddie Lacy rebounded from getting ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Analysis Of Rainbow s End And Jane Harrison s Rainbows End As a result of discovery, individuals are opened to the opportunity to transform and in doing so, renew perceptions of themselves and those around them. In having renewed perceptions, individuals are automatically exposed to new experiences and perspectives, and as a result undergo personal growth. Change is an aspect of discovery that is enabled by past experiences and in this, transformation is achieved. Through Jane Harrison s Rainbow s End, a 1950 s play about three generations of an Aboriginal family, and Gwen Harwood s Father and Child, a poem exploring the transformation of a child we are able to explore the way change is inflicted through experiences of discovery and the responses we find as a result of this. Maturation and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Feelings of sadness and sympathy towards Dolly and the situation she is in. Individuals may feel a sense of loss, where they are encouraged to rediscover something about themselves and essentially, gain a new understanding of themselves and those around them. Through the sexual assault scene, we establish that Dolly has lost all the innocence she once endured. As a result of this loss, she matures and transforms into who she becomes. This is shown through Harrison s use of symbolism. When Dolly s clothes are stripped off her, this shows essentially the stripping away of her innocence. From this we see that she is no longer a young girl, but a woman. We see this in the the way she defies Jungi. Through Dolly s discovery and transformation, her emotional state is threatened, thus causing her ultimate change. This concept of Dolly s loss of innocence transforming into a growth of maturity implies that growth is compulsory as a result of a loss or significant event in an individual s life. Some discoveries may be the result of significant experiences that one undergoes. In moving on from these experiences, the discoveries can be provoked and have the ability to open the eyes of individuals. Gwen Harwood s Father and Child explores the growth and maturation of a child. Harwood shows the juxtaposition between innocence and maturity and the way that discovering this deepens the perception one has of the world. The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I have seen UNFIT employees directly or indirectly cause stress, created misunderstandings between the employee and of his/family, and I have witnessed how they created tensions and conflicts and hence affected the efficiency of other employees within the organization. One of the aspects of the Scripps recruitment and interview process that stood out to me is the Behavior Based Interview. By using this process Scripps gets to go into further details than the standard interview does. By going this route, Scripps is engaging in a culture fit. • 6. A Historical Analysis Of August Wilson As Sam Pollard, director of the PBS special August Wilson: The Ground of Which I Stand, asserts, August Wilson may be regarded as an American Shakespeare, for his body of work really covers the whole 20th century of American history...and there is no other American playwright who did that body of work over a period of time. (American Masters, August Wilson: The Ground of Which I Stand) While such grand comparisons may or may not be merited, August Wilson s Pittsburg Cycle stands as a literary, historical, and cultural feat in which Wilson illustrates, teaches, and preserves the African American experience through an exploration into the poetics of the Blues. No literary scholar would deny this claim; and this assertion remains completely ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... You don t sing to feel better. MA RAINEY: The blues help you get out of bed in the morning. You get up knowing you aint alone. Tire s something else in the world. Something s been added by that song. This be an empty world without the blues. I take that emptiness and try to fill it up with something. (Wilson, 82 83) In this respect, the blues functions as a means of moving through suffering. Just as musicians in the band play the blues, the blues makes instruments out of the musicians. Levee, a brash trumpeter, wants to move on from traditional blues music and into more energizing Jazz, an increasingly popular genre. Levee wants to neglect the past, and the blues function as a reawakening to the dark reality of African American history. Being fully cognizant of one s ancestral origins and how understanding how it may help in the present is ultimately not important to Levee I know he ain t talking about me. You don t see me running around with no bone in my nose. • 7. Siddhartha Gautama Research Paper Siddhartha Gautama was the first person to discover Buddhism in the late 6th century B.C.E. He was originally known as a spiritual teacher when he began teaching followers about the religion. As time passed, he was then referred to as the Buddha and followers viewed him more as a savior than a teacher. A savior is identified as a religious figure who saves someone from danger, where as a spiritual teacher gives knowledge to a person with little understanding of spiritual facts. The same reason is given for Jesus as the messiah for those who practice Christianity. Both of these groups consider Jesus and Buddha, Saviors. Followers of Buddha were taught how to be kind, gentle, and how to have a positive mind that cares for their lives. Buddha s teachings were clear and gave suggestions on how people were supposed to live. Spiritual teachers only focus on teaching people the idea of spirit. He is considered one of the most dominant literary figures in Victorian literature. Kipling was the eldest of two children, son of John Lockwood Kipling, principal of the Jeejeebyhoy School of Art, and Alice Macdonald, friends of followers of the Pre Raphaelite movement. Although Kipling s first five years of life were borderline perfect, in 1871 his happy world took a nosedive. • 9. Essay on Fools Rush In and My Big Fat Greek Wedding Fools Rush In and My Big Fat Greek Wedding Every movie that is written has a certain attitude to it. Some of these are intended to be laughed at and others are meant to be heartfelt. Though each movie is written with its own voice, so to speak, many have similar plots or themes. The two movies Fools Rush In and My Big Fat Greek Wedding are two of these movies that have similarities in the themes, but not necessarily in the plots. Both of these romantic comedies have strong religious backgrounds on the woman s side of the family and differences in culture. The main theme between these two movies is the quest for happiness and all the troubles that must be overcome to achieve it. In the movie Fools Rush In Salma Hayek and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Toula has been raised in a Greek home and still has not married, though all of her siblings have. In the Greek culture a woman is to marry a Greek man, have Greek babies and feed everyone in the family for the rest of their lives. Since Toula has not married she is living with her parents and working in their family restaurant. While working as a hostess she encounters Ian and falls head over heels in love with him. The problem is that he is not Greek; he is actually what her parents would consider a rebel. She hides him from her family for as long as possible, but the truth is revealed. Her family makes it known that without conversion he will not be accepted into their Greek home. He follows through and in the end they are joyful in the outcome of their lives together. They also have Greek children and Toula is able to be the ideal Greek woman. These two movies both deal with similar issues. In both movies the women are struggling between what their hearts are telling them and what they have been raised to know their entire lives. The struggle to overcome the fact that their intended may not be accepted is one that is handled with many mixed emotions. Toula is unable to face her family and admit she is seeing Ian, while Isabel just eloped and caused family disturbances. • 10. Gender Representation Of Female Gender Roles Affect... Despite what seems to be positive empowerment of females alike, Mulan in fact does not encourage the individual empowerment of women through separation of traditional gender stereotypes. In fact, Mulan emphasizes the roles between binary genders that ensure privilege of men over women. Additionally, the film shows how such stereotypical gender roles affect society through social oppression of the minority group. Throughout the film, it is obvious that, although it is possible to have gender performativity, there is disempowerment of women and a man s life is that which is more significant than a woman s. For the duration of the movie, the idea of masculinity is emphasized and its ideas are reinforced. Notably, when Shang, the captain of the army, sings the song I ll Make a Man out of You (Wilder et al., 1998a), the portrayal of the stereotypical representation of masculinity is obvious. The lyrics Did they send me daughters, when I asked for sons? further points to the notion that there is only one gender that is worthy and appropriate to fight (1998). Additionally, the captain s main goal is to make a man out of each member in the army. The assertion is that femininity is not acceptable; the womanly recruits have been transformed into real men in order to competently fight the war. Towbin et al., supports this notion in that men and boys are portrayed as rescuers who save the day (2004). Although the film appears to be supporting feminist ideals as ... • 12. A Brief Note On Unemployment And Minimum Wage Essay Unemployment and Minimum Wage Both the microeconomics and the macroeconomics theories dictate that an increase in the minimum wage will directly impact the rate of unemployment by shooting upwards. As of the moment, there is a heated debate on whether the Congress should pass a bill that seeks to increase United States minimum wage. The consequent change will eventually have both positive as well as negative impacts on various economical aspects particularly unemployment. As for this paper, the focus will be narrowed down to examining the link between minimum wage and unemployment rates across states and also highlighting the current state of unemployment in both Los Angeles and Seattle. In reference to microeconomic theory, the bare minimum wage is considered the price level on top of the equilibrium that is set by the demand and supply curve. A slight increase in the minimum wage greatly impacts the quantity of workers supplied in the economy by significantly increasing due to the initial heave of interest to enroll in the workforce. Similarly, there will be a decline in the quantity of demanded labor given that the marginal labor cost will directly increase as the minimum wage increases. As a result of the increased quantity supplied and the subsequent decrease in demanded quantity, there will be a creation of labor surplus in the workforce, culminating in the increased rates of unemployment. With an increase in the minimum wage on top of the normal equilibrium in the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

BACKGROUND OF THE BILL OF RIGHTS The United States Bill of Rights came into being as a result of a promise made by the Fathers of Confederation to the states during the struggle for ratification of the Constitution in 1787 88. A great number of the states made as a condition for their ratification, the addition of amendments, which would guarantee citizens protection of their rights against the central government. Thus, we have a rather interesting situation in which the entrenchment of a bill of rights in the American Constitution was done by the virtual demand of the states, they themselves fearing a central government which was not legally constrained and restricted as far as its powers were concerned. Bartleby, the Scrivener contains many allusions about important events that help connect this fictional story to actual events in Melville s time period, before, and beyond. Melville uses allusions frequently throughout Bartleby, the Scrivener to help build connections with the real world and the fictitious world of this short story. One of the biggest allusions in Bartleby, the Scrivener is the comparison of Bartleby to Jesus. In the story the narrator is confronted by the new owner of the law offices. He asks the narrator if he knows who Bartleby is. The narrator replies with I certainly ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He rolled a big stone in front of the entrance to the tomb. Then he went away (NIV, Matthew 27:60). Cicero, a very successful Roman politician, also plays a very significant role in the story of Bartleby, the Scrivener . The narrator has a bust of Cicero in his office connecting the two cultures; the Western and Eastern cultures however are strikingly different. At around 100 B.C. Cicero led the Roman Empire in a very structured and civilized way. The Roman Empire s governmental structure is very similar to the United Stated government because they both include three branches. The Judiciary, the Executive, and the Legislative branches are included in both civilizations; however the Roman s devised this system more than 2,000 years before the United States. They also both have elected officials who are either elected or are appointed by the Consuls. The Roman Government was very orderly and organized, the exact opposite of how it was in Bartleby s office. This small detail in the story creates more contrast and helps us better understand the changes that can happen in such a short amount of time. The law office was a very orderly place, it just takes one person to throw any well oiled system off balance. The inclusions of these allusions are very subtle and are not always obvious, however Melville took the time to add these into the story to further build connections with the story world and the real world to make the story ... Trackers report on who has what of a particular torrent s information and may actively maintain torrents health. The actual torrents are small files that tell the client where to find the actual files. People who have the actual files and are willing to allow you to download from them are called seeds. Seeds help the growth of the torrent by spreading its information to people who are downloading it, called leechers. Everyone beginning to download a torrent is initially a leecher. Some trackers may cut your download off if you never seed while continuing to leech. It all sounds complicated but is behind the scenes and very seamless, as you ll see. • 20. Garibaldi Unification Essay The background on Risorgimento and Giuseppi Garibaldi s role in the unification of Italy sparked my curiosity about the impact unification had on national and regional identities in Italy, and the effect these identities have on the way the world perceives the people of Italy as opposed to the way they see each other. It seems to me that Garibaldi and the unification process must have had a profound effect on the people of Italy and the way they see themselves fitting into the nation state as a whole. I would imagine that many of these questions do not have clear answers, but rather complicated explanations that lead to even more questioning. With Garibaldi s movement spreading across the regions of Italy, I can imagine that not all ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Another interesting way of looking at Italian identities from an international perspective is examining the way other nations see Italy as having either distinct regional differences or a larger collective identity. If there are so many different regional identities, where did the Italian identity known in the United States come from? If each region has their own culture, how can we claim to know Italian food, music, art, or any other cultural element? I would imagine that much of the food in an area of Italy is dependent on what is produced in that region of the nation, and therefore could not be encompassed by the umbrella of Italian food. I know that many Italian foods are named after the region where they are produced, such as parmigiano and Marsala wine, thus preserving some of the regional identity in the name. So where did this larger culture come from, is what we know as Italian food really the food from a specific region or something else entirely? It would be interesting to study how this national identity emerged over time, and does its presence mean that some people no longer care about their regional loyalty? I would expect that as generations become further and further removed from the time before unification, more and more people would identify more with Italy on a national scale rather than their specific regions. Yet, in many places regional pride and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Segmentation The important aim of image segmentation is the domain independent partitioning of an image into a set of disjoint regions that can be visually differentiated, homogeneous and meaningful with respect to some characteristics or computed property such as grey level, texture or colour to enable easy image analysis. Image segmentation is a useful tool in many realms including industry, health care, astronomy, and various other fields. Segmentation in concept is a very simple idea. Simply looking at an image, one can tell what regions are contained in a picture. Is it a building, a person, a cell, or just simply background? Visually it is very easy to determine what a region of interest is and what is not. Doing so with a computer algorithm on the other hand is not so easy. How do you determine what defines a region? What features distinguish one region from another? What determines how many regions you have in a given image? Discontinuity and similarity/homogeneity are two basic properties of the pixels in relation to their local neighbourhood used in many segmentation methods. The segmentation methods that are based on discontinuity property of pixels are considered as boundary or edges based techniques and that are based on similarity or homogeneity are region based techniques. We have intentionally separated thresholding technique from region based due the usage of histogram and its simplicity. A lot of limitations are faced while applying segmentation namely: ... The storm itself did a great deal of damage, but its aftermath was catastrophic. Levee breaches led to massive flooding, and many people charged that the federal government was slow to meet the needs of the people affected by the storm. Hundreds of thousands of people in Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama were displaced from their homes, and experts estimate that Katrina caused more than $150 billion in damage.[1] HURRICANE KATRINA: BEFORE THE STORM: Katrina at first shaped over the Bahamas on Aug. 23, 2005, as a tropical sorrow. A decently characterized band of storm mists started to wrap around the north side of the storm s flow focus in the early morning hours of Aug. 24. The storm was named Tropical Storm Katrina. The day preceding Katrina hit, New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin issued the city s first ever obligatory clearing request. He likewise pronounced that the Superdome, a stadium found on moderately high ground close downtown, would serve as a haven of final resort for individuals who couldn t leave the city. By dusk, very nearly 80 percent of the city s populace had emptied. Around 10,000 had looked for sanctuary in the Superdome, while countless others decided to endure the storm at home.[2] When it went to southern Florida on Aug. 25, Katrina was a moderate Category 1 typhoon.
