A View From The Bridge Tension Essay
Tension in Arthur Miller s A View From the Bridge
In A View From the Bridge , Arthur Miller explores a variety of themes in the relationships
between the main characters in order to build tension for the audience. Firstly, through Eddie s talk
with Alfieri, we can see that he is jealous of Rodolfo s relationship with Catherine, and his
eventual loss of authority in his own house leads to anger and a desire to once again become the
stereotypical alpha male. This creates tension because the audience knows that he will want his
authority back, and as he gets more and more desperate, the audience may think that he would do
anything to regain control over his household. Secondly, although early in the ... Show more content

In Rodolfo s case, he quickly finds several reasons Rodolfo is slightly built, blond, a good singer
and dancer, and he can cook and make dresses. Moreover, Mike and Louis seem to share this view:
He comes around, everybody s laughing, Mike is shown to say. The stage directions indicate
multiple times that Mike and Louis laugh, and finally, they explode in laughter . This creates
tension because if people find out that the person they laugh at is related to Eddie, then it will
lower people s opinions on himself too, and the audience knows he does not want this. After
this, is shown to tell Catherine that Rodolfo is a hit and run guy and only bowing to his passport
. This creates tension because there is a sense of him abusing his power and the trust that
Catherine has in him, and the audience does not know if she will realize this or what course of
action she will take if she does. She protests disbelief but is clearly shaken until Beatrice reassures
her. We can tell that she trusts Beatrice on this though, as Catherine is shown to say: All right and
Ok as if to agree with Beatrice s views. Also, the stage directions say: Catherine, sensing now an
imperious demand. The words imperious demand may suggest that Beatrice is ordering her rather
than discussing or asking her, and this creates tension because the audience

Pros And Cons Of The Safe Drinking Water Act
Under the Safe Drinking Water Act, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is required
to establish the concentrations of contaminants that are permitted in public drinking water systems.
A public water system is defined by EPA as a system for the provision to the public of water for
human consumption through pipes or other constructed conveyances, if such system has at least
fifteen service connections or regularly serves at least twenty five individuals (63 Fed. Reg. 41940
[1998]). Section 1412 of the act, as amended in 1986, requires EPA to publish maximum
contaminant level goals (MCLGs) and promulgate national primary drinking water regulations
(maximum contaminant levels [MCLs]) for contaminants in drinking waterthat might cause... Show

has been an effective method for preventing dental decay (Newbrun 1989; Ripa 1993; Horowitz

Control and Prevention (CDC) as one of the 10 great public health achievements in the United
States, because of its role in reducing tooth decay in children and tooth loss in adults (CDC
1999). Each U.S. Surgeon General has endorsed water fluoridation over the decades it has been
practiced, emphasizing that [a] significant advantage of water fluoridation is that all residents of
a community can enjoy its protective benefit.... A person s income level or ability to receive
dental care is not a barrier to receiving fluoridation s health benefits (Carmona 2004). As noted
earlier, this report does not evaluate nor make judgments about the benefits, safety, or efficacy of
artificial water fluoridation. That practice is reviewed only in terms of being a source of exposure to

Why Was LГ©vi-Strauss Still Relevant Today
In this essay I will discuss why I believe that Claude LГ©vi Strauss work is still relevant today and
I will focus on the role that he assigns to the social anthropologist. Claude LГ©vi Strauss was the
most influential anthropologist theorist in France. His work which he contributed to anthropology
still remains to have significant relevance in todays contemporary anthropology. He was born on the
28th of November 1908 and passed away on the 30th of October 2009. I will discuss his theory
and what he argued for and against. Anthropologists like Durkheim, De Saussure, Simiand,
Rousseau, Jakobson and Mauss and many more influenced LГ©vi Strauss when it came to his
work. First I would like to explain the term anthropology according to (LГ©vi Strauss,... Show

LГ©vi Strauss discusses kinship, which in todays society is still very clear and important.
Firstly when anthropologists discuss kinship they are concerned with social behaviours and not
biological facts and the two sets of data are often so widely discrepant that it is often convenient
to discuss kinship without any reference to biology (Leach, 1973: 96). We have to break down
kinship terms into individual systems in order to see what relationship they have. Even though
it states that kinship does not have to do with biology there has to be link as it is obvious that a
child is related to their mother just like she is to her sister. LГ©vi Strauss is interested in in the
systems and not as much with terms of kinship. He looks at the ties by which people are related,
rather this be through siblingship and/or affinal relationships. In society in order for a child to
be seen as a legitimate child they need to have two parents who are married. Society does not
judge this opinion on the relationship between the child and his/her parents but on the relationship
between the parents themselves. This extremity has faded into the background for the most part
in the contemporary society but is still around in some cases as everyone is always interested in
your family dynamic. The way in which people are related is still of great importance. LГ©vi
Strauss does not look at the basic relationships for example mother/daughter and husband/wife, but
he looks at the more complicated types of relationships such as the contrast between father/son and
mother s brother/sister s son. According to LГ©vi Strauss in order for a kinship structure to exist
three types of family relations must always be present: a relation of consanguinity, a relation of
affinity and a relation of descent. (Leach, 1973: 101). Through LГ©vi Strauss explanation of

The Value Of Interpersonal Skills
The Value of Interpersonal Skills in Everyday Life and Business
Lisa Roberts Nicholas
University of the People
Assignment 6
Abstract
Thomas Malone of MIT Solan School discussed impersonal skills importance and his research,
measuring intelligence groups. He felt that interpersonal skill are more important than before
because it has become more important to think of businesses, and organizations not just in terms
of how efficient or how productive they are but also in terms of their intelligence. Findings to his
research lead to the discovery that for a group to be collectively intelligent it must have a lot of
people who are socially perceptive. So even though his test was done based on reading emotions
and eyes it must be completed with a much broader range of interpersonal skills, what you might
call intelligence. (H. (n.d.). Why Interpersonal Skills Are More Important Than You Think). The
following skills which we use in our personal and business communications are valuable to
interpersonal skills.
Listening is the ability to accurately receive and interpret messages during the communication
process. For there to be effective communication, listening must play the essential part. The inability
to listen effectively can contribute to easily misunderstanding messaged.
Example: A bosswho listens to his employees overheard his assistant complaint of feeling unwell
on a specific day when she was supposed to attend a meeting regarding the

Testing The Attraction Effect On Rich Perceptual Stimuli
Everyone has experienced a situation where they wonder if the person they are getting into a
taxi with is an approachable person. Let s face it, when you need a ride somewhere and the
driver pulls up to the curb, you get in, and worry about the rest later. If you were given a choice
between two drivers when the taxis pulled up, and both drivers were equally approachable with
very similar attributes, how would you choose which driver s door to open? Researchers in the
marketing industry have studied this attraction effect for over three decades, and found that the
placement of a decoy (asymmetrically dominated alternative) in the middle of a choiceset has the
strength to influence consumer choices. Testing the attraction effect on rich perceptual stimuli
(like a taxi driver) yields many answers, and personal differences may distort the decoy s intended
purpose. In light of a decoy s power to influence choice on items containing contextual attributes
(for example televisions, cars, toothpaste), I felt the purpose of my study should focus on whether
a decoy holds the same power to influence consumers with items that are presented perceptually
(like a movie, taste test, or a person providing a service), which are void of relevant underlying
context.
Research on the decoy effect (asymmetrical dominance, or attraction effect) has held its own in the
world of marketing, and was introduced by Huber, Payne, and Puto (1982) when they demonstrated
that the choices people make

Genesis chapter 2, versus 21 24, the scripture goes, So the Lord God cast a deep sleep upon the
man; and, while he slept, He took one of his ribs and closed up the flesh at that spot, And the Lord
Godfashioned the rib that He had taken from the man into a woman; and He brought her to the
man. Then the man said, This one at last, Is bone of my bones And flesh of my flesh. This one

I did have a hard time finding sources that were particularly pertaining to how Lilith came into
play and what exactly her midrash was. Once I found a good substantial amount of information,
I laid out an outline for myself to know exactly in what direction I was headed with the research
content and how I should portray it. Luckily for me, there are many different cultures that have
the context of Lilith, even if they do not call her that. They all describe her as a winged demon
whom comes around at night to seduce men (in order for her to produce demonic children) and to
strangle babies. Another thing that I did which ended up really playing out was researching the
many different forms of Midrash and how they worked. The outcome of my research provided me
with many different types, and how you were meant to characterize each one. I was honestly
surprised at how much went into determining how a midrash should be laid out, whether it be
legal, or non legal reasoning s. I also found it interesting to how sources determined Eve as Adams
actual first wife with having no information about Lilith being the actual first wife, regardless of
how that relationship ended up. I would be interested in taking a class about the women of the bible
and having them include the midrash of Lilith to understanding the full force and being taught of
her, rather than reading things that may not stick in my memory. I would be interested in

Water Conservation
WATER CONSERVATION
INTRODUCTION:
Water is essential for life on earth. Water is needed for growing food, keeping ourselves clean,
generating power, controlling fire and most importantly to stay alive! This list is simply non
ending. This shows that water is an integral part of our daily life and we are heavily dependent on it.
Water conservation
Refers to reducing the usage of water and recycling of waste water for different purposes such as
cleaning, manufacturing, and agricultural irrigation.
Water conservation can be defined as:
1. A reduction in water use accomplished by implementation of water conservation or water
efficiency measures; or, 2. Improved water management practices that reduce or enhance the ...

Using less water also puts less pressure on our sewage treatment facilities, and uses less energy for
water supply to the grid.
Why should you conserve water?
There are many good reasons to conserve water. Water conservation can help meet future needs.
Saving water will save you money. Water conservation helps preserve the environment. Saving
water will save energy.
Although water conservation helps, some people have misconceptions about what water
conservation can and can t do. If we all work together to conserve water, we can help assure a
bright and prosperous life for future generations. Become an advocate of conservation in your
community. Help promote conservation as a wise and important water management principle.
[pic]SAVE MONEY
Conserving water saves you money! Not only will your water bill go down, but as you use less
water, your gas or energy bill will also decline. If your whole community conserves, you will also
pay less fees for water related services. Water conserving communities will not need to pay as
much to develop new supplies and expand or upgrade water and wastewater infrastructure.
Wise usage of water helps us in saving money. We have to pay for the water we use. If we use less
water, we will have more money left to spend on other things.

My Career As A Purpose Of A Zoologist
The career I am pursing is Zoology, which requires a degree in Biology. I chose this career due to
my passionate interest in wildlife and my personal character. I have not chosen what career branch
I would like to partake in because of the numerous options. But that requires additional research
that will be sought out during the upcoming years of college. A Zoologist is a person who studies
wildlife, the habitat of wildlife and how animals adapt to it. In addition, they also study the
behavior of animals, animal characteristics, and how they react to human activity. The purpose of a
Zoologist is to experiment, researchand study animals. This could mean in the wild itself or in a
controlled area. Overall, Zoologist overlook the large picture of animal communities and how
specieswork in life. The skills you need to become a well practiced zoologist are traits I have
found in myself. Of course, the interest of researching animas is the most important. But you
also need communication skills, a strong logical problem solving approach, keen observation
skills, and can independently or as a team. Majority of those skills I possess but could continue
to improve on. The profession appeals to me because of my love for animals mostly. I have been
interested in animals as a young child and I actually prefer animals over people. I m caring
enough to dedicate my time when I m older to wildlife and wildlife projects. What else interests me
about animals is how they

Argumentative Of Late Start School
Late Start School; Pleasurable in Theory
Money.Schedule.Education.These words may seem to have nothing to do with each other, but they
all describe ways that communities are negatively impacted by late start school. Late start school is
not beneficial for students because it causes whole communities to change their schedules, limits
money towards education, and reduces the amount of enrichment that students can obtain.
Late start school has a negative effect on the whole community, not just the students. One way that
late start school would affect the whole community is that many bus routes would have to be
altered to accommodate the late start schedule. New buses may have to be purchased and new
drivers would then have to be hired. Purchasing new buses and hiring new drivers would take
away district/grant money that teachers need to purchase school supplies, pay for extracurricular
activities, and pay for out of class activities. Many parents would also have to go out of their way
to take their children to school. Because of work, some parents would not be able to transport
their children to school at all. Transporting their children to school could also cause many parents
to be late for work, especially if their children don t live on ... Show more content on

It has been shown that students who get more sleep are healthier and more productive. However,
late start school may not actually provide students with more sleep. A very likely possibility is
that students will simply stay awake later if their school becomes a late start school. Likewise,
many people agree that late start school prevents students from learning a certain measure of
responsibility. Students are more prepared to enter the workforce if they have learned to balance
work and sleep. If students have learned to balance work and sleep they should be able to come by

Factors That Can Be Taken Into Account When An Individual...
There are various factors that can be taken into account when an individual is walking. Whether it is
your speed, group size, destination, status, culture, personality, distractions, or sex, one way of the
other they manage to have an impact on walking behaviors. Past researchers have indicated that
these factors may have an effect on walkingbehaviors and with our observation we put the theories
to test. The factors taken into account were genderand group size and their effect on walking speed
and interpersonal distance.
Earlier research finding have reported that interpersonal distances are influenced by dominance,
attraction, age, similarity and gender. Willis (1996) reported in his research that young people
are more like to approach one another closer and as people tend to age the more personal space is
recorded. A closer more intimate space is seen in opposite sexpairs (Aiello 1987; Crawford and
Unger 2000; Hall 1984; Heshka and Nelson 1972). From this finding, researchers conclude that
when people interact in closer distances they have an attraction or interpersonal relationship.
Dominance, power, and status are also said lead to lower interpersonal distance. Similarities in
race, sexual preference, religions are also factors that contribute to a closer interpersonal distance
(Bell et al., 2001).
According to some researchers negatively toned situations cause larger spatial zones (Strayer and
Roberts 1997). Studies suggest that women are more prone to react in

Greek Gods Vs Roman Gods
Greek and Roman gods and goddesses are often grouped together without any thought of the
contrasts between the two separate ancient deity groups. People see that some of the gods
powers or purposes are similar and suddenly the two different bundles of gods get merged into
one. At this point, Zeus, the main greek god, and Jupiter, the main roman god, are
interchangeable. Although, the time periods and reasons for why the gods were conjured up are
completely different. Even the overall natures of the two groups of gods are contradistinctive. Just
because of a few similarities, people have ignored these contrasting factors between the Greek and
Roman gods. Now, of course, the Greek gods and the Roman gods have some similarities. To

The Greek gods were very individualistic, so in myths where they created a problem, they would
receive the consequence as individuals, not as a group. Additionally, the Greeks, who were very
into the arts, shaped their gods to lean more towards the creative side. Due to this creativity
shown in the gods, they were mostly based on personality traits, such as honor, love, and hate.
These personality traits shaped how the gods acted and even how they looked. According to the
Myths and Legends website, Greek gods and goddess had very beautiful and handsome bodies
that were just stunning. Greek gods were based more off of personality traits which helped in
the making of their perfect physical appearance (Georgia G.). While Greek gods were creative,
physically perfect, and individualistic, Roman gods were the complete opposite. Roman gods
were non individualistic, receiving all their consequences as a group. The Romans shaped their
gods to lean more towards actions, rather than words or creativity. Since the gods were more
particular to actions, they were named after objects and didn t really have a personality or
physical being at all. The same Myth and Legends article described how Roman gods on the other
hand were more of a mere illusion. Roman gods weren t given physical forms and they were

HOW WOULD YOU DEFINE THE PROGRESSIVE REFORM MOVEMENT?
The Progressive Era was needed to reform the Gilded Age due to economic expansion, deplorable
living standards for the working class, and corrupt government actions that occurred. The Gilded
Age took place shortly after the Civil War ended between 1870 and 1900 and resulted in serious
national issues. Reforms that were put in place during the Progressive Era took a great deal of time
to produce beneficial results which included, returning the control of the government to the people,
restoring economic opportunities, and correcting injustice within the daily lives of Americans. The
reforms were all in thanks to men and women like Theodore Roosevelt, Upton Sinclair, Woodrow

During the Gilded Age America suffered from major social issues including child labor, women
s suffrage, and urbanization. Child labor was a large problem because schooling wasn t
required, money was tight in low class families, and factories were desperate for workers.
Muckraker, John Spargo described how dormant and neglected powers for children need to be
called into active cooperation (document 4). Child labor finally started to decline in 1902 after
child labor unions were started for the abolition of child labor (document 9). In addition to child
labor, equal rights were also a large part of the time periods reforms. From the 1830 s on women

the Wilson administration that the 19th amendment was ratified in 1920, allowing women to vote.
The third major social reform that occurred in the Progressive Era was urbanization. More people
moved into the city looking for work as business was booming. Most of the workers were
extremely poor and weren t receiving any help from the government. People began to realize how
extremely unsanitary the cities became and how inhumane tenement living was. Tenement living
became a social norm for the working class, housing up to 18 people in one room without a toilet
or windows that opened. In 1901 the Tenement House Act was put in

Like many things, my journey to Hong Kong has a beginning, middle and end but, not in that
order. I would always assume that the beginning of my journey started the moment I stepped on

The Is A Disorder Diagnosed When Oral Language
SLI is a disorder diagnosed when oral language lags behind other areas of development for no
apparent reason (Bishop Snowling, 2004). Many studies report that SLI affects a relatively large
percentage of the child population, around 5% 10%, (McArthur et al., 2000). Furthermore,
McArthur et al. (2000) showed that more than 50% of children with dyslexia also meet the
criteria for SLI (see also Marshall, Harcourt Brown, Ramus Van der Lely, 2009 and McArthur
Hogben, 2001). Bishop and Snowling (2004) claim that diagnostic criteria for SLI are vague. This is
153
because children with SLI display significant difficulties with one or more linguistic domains, such
as phonology, syntax, semantics and pragmatics. In fact, the defining criterion states that a child
has SLI if their difficulties cannot be explained by deficits in other aspects of cognition that are
linked to language acquisition, such as intelligence, hearing, oral motor skills and language
exposure (Dollaghan, 2008), but does not specifically define any subfield of linguistics as crucial for
the discrimination.
5. 4. 2 SLI and morphology
Friedmann Novogrodsky (2006) present a detailed discussion of variability in SLI. The authors
distinguish between phonological SLI, syntactic SLI, semantic SLI and pragmatic SLI. In their
study, the authors tested children with SLI using tapping tasks in dissociated form on syntax,
semantics, phonology or pragmatics. They observed that children s difficulties can be

The Sociological Perspective Of Sociology
The Sociological Perspective Sociology is the scientific study of society and human behavior.
Human behavior and each respective society that is studied can be evaluated and governed by the
scientific method to produce reliable results. The inquiries into these subjects are derived by the
inspirations of sociological perspectives. Each stratifying field of Sociologyfinds an anchor in the
relationships between these pieces in the human context in which they are found. Navigating the
water in how these perspectives differ is necessary to gain a sociological perspective. Marx s
conflict theory is a theoretical framework in which society is viewed as composed of groups that
are competing for scarce resources. It also evokes the competition between the proletariat, and the
bourgeois that holds the resources. In a similar macro sociological view, functionalism is a
theoretical framework in which society is viewed as composed of various parts, each with a
function that, when fulfilled, contributes to society s equilibrium; also known as functional
analysis and structural functionalism. Sociology also has a more intimate perspective of symbolic
interactionism were a theoretical perspective views society as composed of symbols that people
use to establish meaning, develop their views of the world, and communicate with one another.
With these tools of perspective we can compare and contrast themes from seven diverse videos that

that this event was a hoax perpetuated to deceive the society. The debate, whether the moon landing

Even if scientists wanted to make something like a Moon rock by, say, bombarding an Earth rock
with high energy atomic nuclei, they couldn t (Phillips). In addition, Phillip C. Plait agrees with
Tony Phillips and comes to the same conclusions. For example he states there are no stars in the
picture because, The stars are too faint to be seen in the images (Plait 159). However, unlike Tony
Phillips, Plait explains the scientific reasons in depth. He claims astronauts have survived the
incredibly high temperature of the Moon due to simple date counting. He explains, Moon spins on
its axis once every 27 days ... [which] means ... two weeks of sunlight and two weeks of darkness...
the surface doesn t heat up the instant the sunlight touches it...It takes days for the lunar surface to

The author of the paper believes the moon landing of 1969 really happened. The main reasons
coming to this conclusion is that the lies could not be told by such huge amount of people and the
theories can be all explained and understood with a little studying on physics and astronomy. If
this were a hoax, more than a handful of people would have spoken up the secret. The author of
this paper also believes that the photos and the films from NASA are real evidences, but have been
misinterpreted due to the lack of knowledge on astronomy and physics. This topic still remains to
be debated over because the moon landing was

The color of this element reflects the reactivity of it. The appearance is a very pale yellow

elements and reacts mostly to metals. An example of this is when steel wood is exposed to
fluorine it bursts into flames ( Fluorine Element Information, Properties and Uses | Periodic Table.

to help develop the atom bomb and other projects having to do with that. It s also been used to
help make gases for high powered transformers. It s also used in teflon, cable insulation,
plumbers tape, and a base for waterproof shoes and clothes. Chlorine has a similar look to
fluorine. Chlorine is a yellow green dense gas. It has a very distinct smell to it and has been used
as a chemical weapon. It also kills bacteria and is used as a disinfectant. Chlorine disinfects
drinking water and swimming pool water and is also used in organic chemistry. It can be used as
an oxidising agent and in substitution reactions. But in the past it was used to make chloroform.
Since chlorine is poisonous it was used as a chemical weapon during World War

I Love You But Then I D Have To Kill You
I d Tell You I Love You But Then I d Have to Kill You is the first book in the Gallagher Girls
series. The series is about Cameron Morgan, a teenage girl who goes to a private school called
the Gallagher Academy for Exceptional Young Women. From the outside, it looks like an ordinary
all girls private boarding school. Except that it s not. Because it actually teaches its students to
become a spy. You can expect unconventional subjects in their curriculum such as Covert
Operations, Protection and Enforcement, and other interesting subjects. In the first book, Cameron

boy named Josh singled her out. It could be considered as a meet cute if only Cammie was not in the

Cammie couldn t tell the truth about her identity to Josh (at least the one which Josh is allowed

The narration might seem childish, with all the exclamation point and capital letters to MAKE
A POINT!! But it didn t annoy me. It s fun. Another thing that I like about this book is how the
girls are not damsel in distress. They are smart and tough. Though sometimes they have to hide
the fact that they are trained spies (depending on your clearance), still, reading about amazing
tough girls is always a plus. They also know their priorities, which is quite a rare case in YA
books. Sure, there are times when she doubt it. But not to the point where she makes dumb
decision, at least in my opinion, and I totally support that. All in all, I m surprised at how much I
like this book. If you re looking for a fun and fast paced YA book, I totally recommend this book.
As for the rest of the series, I m looking forward to reading

Euripides Medea Comparison
In Diane Arnson Svarlien s translation of Euripides Medea, the playwright encrypted a hidden
message in the play Medea that portrays the same theme as J.K Rowling s Harry Potter and the
Prisoner of Azkaban which are: identity, and relationship. To back this up, the first half of the play
is talking about the story of why Medeasplit up with Jasonand Medeamentions that men, like
Jason, treats women with betrayal. She then clarifies the idea by saying disgraceful things about
her husband and ignores Jason s reasoning on why he has to marry off with someone. The reason
why she is considered as other is, she is misunderstood of the actions she had done such as
murdering her children while she was a little paranoid.
One way to prove Medea misunderstands her role as an other is, she is lacking at her citizenship
status. To give an example, according to lines 33 39, Friends talk to her, try to give her good
advice; she listens the way a rock does or an ocean wave. At most, she ll turn her pale neck aside,
sobbing to herself for her dear father, her land, her home, and all that she betrayed for Jason,
who now holds her in dishonor. Medea gave all the effort she can in order to help Jason to
retrieve his golden fleece before this melodrama happened. Eventually, she exiled the first time
when she falls in love with Jason and exiled again due to Jason s Betrayal. Speaking of Jason s
Betrayal, Medea doesn t know what Jason is up to at first because she married off with Jason

Assignment Turnitin week 4
Briefly describe the two specific systemic crises you have selected.
In this week application, I will pay attention to natural disaster (floods) and school based crisis
situations. Floods refer to an overflow of water from a water body due to excessive rainfall or
input in water from its source exceeding the usual capacity of the water body. The over whelming
flow of water is catastrophic leading to destruction of infrastructure, plants as well as causing loss
of life to both animal and human beings. Flood may occur slowly while in cases of flash flood, they
occur instantly within a short duration of minutes.
School based crisis refer to unforeseen predicaments affecting a school set up. A school based crisis
affects quite a significant portion of the school fraternity. Generally such crisis include: death of
student, staff member or a community member who had had a big role in the school, major
environmental crisis such as fire and situations that compromise the safety of students for instance a
school bus accident, insecurity among others.
Explain how the two crises are similar and how they are different, including their breadth of impact.
On similarity, both situations involve destruction of properties and physical injury of victims, when
it an environmental school based crisis. They also involves loss of life when the situation in the

Your Dependent Variable And For Your Six Independent...
I have data for my dependent variable and for my six independent variables. My dependent
variable is inflation. The inflation data used in this paper comes from EuroStat. Inflation is
calculated as the annual average rate of change (%) in the Harmonized Indices of Consumer
Prices (HICP). The HICP is a consumer price index which has been harmonized across EU
countries, in order to avoid differences in how the price index is calculated. Inflationvaries greatly
across countries and the lowest inflation in this data set is 1.7%, while the highest is 5.5%. My
first independent variable is interest rates and the data also comes from EuroStat. The rates used
in this analysis are part of the interest rate on the main refinancing operations (MRO), which
provides the bulk of liquidity to the banking system. The data encompasses both fixed rate and
minimum bid rate since the ECB dropped the minimum bid rate and decided that the weekly main
refinancing operations would be carried out through a fixed rate tender procedure in 2008. I
hypothesize that the sign of this variable is negative since lower interest rates result in higher
liquidity due to higher borrowing ability and less incentive for savings, boosting consumption and
spending enhanced, which increase demand. The increased aggregate demand increases the price
level, which causes inflation. My second variable is productivity growth. The productivity data
used in this paper is from the OECD database and it is defined as the

Essay On Operation Barbarossa
One of the classic what ifs of the World War II is what if the German invasion of the Soviet
Union in June 1941, known as Operation Barbarossa , would have been a success? Hitler being
very optimistic though he could and all he had to do was to kick in the door down and the whole
rotten structure of Stalin s regime would come falling down on him and his regime. Although
Operation Barbarossawas considered a complete failure, in many respects the operation was a
complete success. The Germans had the upper hand took the Soviets by surprise. The Wehrmacht or

They were uncertain whether to attack to assault Stalingrad, Moscow or Ukraine. Each had its
own particular key significance but since of the sheer size of Russia, it was an awful thought to
assault every city at once, yet that is exactly what they did. This separation of troops had the
German lines two far spread out and the Russian Red Army was able to smash through the German
lines and surrounded the city of Stalingrad. This left the once compelling German sixth army was
caught inside the city. It was simply an issue of time before the noose would begin to tighten around
the worn down and tired Germans. Besides; the Russian winter was something the Germans were
not arranged for. Most of the Wehrmacht soldiers were wearing garments made for medium climate
weather, which was nothing during this unusually cold winter. A lot of their number succumbed to
the cold. At the point when the winter finished, things improved, the defrost that originated from
the softening snow muddied almost every street making it amazingly troublesome for Nazi tanks,
trucks and even men to travel. The rate of advancement was slowed down due to the mud. Thirdly,
the eastern front was just not the Red Army versus the Wehrmacht, there were numerous fanatic
groups as well. These groups used guerrilla warfare to attack German convoys and troops while

Deflation And The Theory Of Truth
Deflation Accounts of Causation
Introduction
Several different theories accounts exist attempting to explain whether truth exists. Some of the
common causation accounts include the deflation account, reifications, covering law model and
unificationism accounts. The Deflation theory of truth states that a predicament of the truth does not
attribute the property of the truth to a particular statement. Several theories are present under the
deflation accounts of causation. They include the redundancy theory of truth and the perfection
theory of the truth. These two theories are the major dominant theory around deflation accounts of
causation. Although both theories attempt to explain and substantiate truth in a statement, the
redundancy theory is stronger compared to the perfection theory of truth. The redundancy theory is
claimed to be the first theory that came close to explaining predicaments of truth in a statement. No
other account has achieved the same fate as the redundancy account.
Redundancy Theory of Truth Also known as the disquotational theory of truth, the redundancy
theory holds that a statement will always remain the truth even before if the predictive statement
misses. The most common predicament statement used by most people is the it is truth . For
example, when an individual says, Snow is white, it means that snow is white and even when the
predictive statement is added it does not change the nature of the sentence (Damnjanovic, 2005).

Nosferatu Essay
Response 1 Nosferatu
My experience watching a feature length silent film was very interesting, to say the least. I found it
amazing that they were able to tell a complete story on only visual elements. Nosferatu had many
similarities to A trip to the Moon by George Melies. Comparatively it had more storytelling
elements character development purely due to film length. I feel it would be very challenging to
produce such a complex story under the constraints of such a short film. I believe my experience
to be very typical of someone who has never watched a full length silent film, I was gripped with
curiosity on how this film would tell the great story of Dracula without the stereotypical screams
and jump scares that horror movies today bring to the screen. I feel like the film did a fantastic
job of telling the story with the limitations of being able to use sound. I will be very interested in
watching another full length silent film from that era to see the difference in writing and filming
styles. I would also be interested in re watching Nosferatu during the night time to see if that

Nosferatu, however, focused heavily on the character s fear and and silent screams to set the tone

The girl and her trust by D.W. Griffith felt like it achieved that sense of fear by using a choppy
film style to capture the desperate feeling the characters were having in their situation. The same
approach was used to develop the fear Hutter was having towards Nosferatu.
Overall, I found the experience a positive one and I greatly enjoyed being able to compare the
difference in film style to the current style of modern cinema. I will definitely be watching another

The Truth Is Often A Great Lie
Benjamin Franklin understands the fine line between the truth and lie, as he says, Half the truth is
often a great lie. In the novel Ragtime, author E.L. Doctorow tells a story that blurs fact and fiction
masterfully, often suspending the readers ability to discern historical narrative and fictionalized
tales. Ragtime follows the lives of two fictional families in the Progressive Era; their roles in the
novel develop in relation to their frequent interactions with real historical figures, in addition to
their attendance at historical events. Doctorow uses fictional characters as in order to provide a
comprehensive commentary on the social and economic issues plaguing the lives of common
citizens the Progressive Era; the characters interactions with celebrities and dignitaries help to
frame their lives within the context of an evolving nation. Perhaps no character represents the larger
social issues of the Progressive Era more than Coalhouse Walker, a wealthy ragtime pianist turned
violent murdering arsonist, whose actions create a comprehensive dialogue about how to best
combat racism in pre World War I America. During the climax of the novel, the police call upon
Booker T. Washington to negotiate with Coalhouse Walker; Coalhouse, however, shoots down
Washington s best attempts. This essay explores the complex ideologies of both Booker T.
Washington and W.E.B. Du Bois, two opponents who are the most prominent African American
leaders of the Progressive Era. Thus, this

Brachii Research Paper
The biceps brachii arises from the scapula by two heads. The long (lateral head) arising from the
supraglenoid tubercle, descends within the capsule of the shoulder joint and lies in the
intertubercular groove. The short (medial head) arises from the coracoid process in common
with the coracobrachialis. The insertion is into the tuberosity of the radius (posterior part) and
the fascia of the forearm (and ultimately the ulna) by means of the bicipital aponeurosis. The
biceps and brachialis are the chief flexors of the forearm. The origin of the brachialis embraces
the insertion of the deltoid. The coracobrachialis is generally pierced by the musculocutaneous

A GSM Base Device
1Problem Statement
A GSM base device creates severe interference with a wireless infrastructure. It can be used to
activate any explosive device in an indoor environment. Moreover, a GSM signal is also very likely
to interfere with wireless network, employed by emergency and/or confidential departments.
2Aims Objectives
The motive of this paper is to propose a novel band stop Frequency Selective Surface (FSS). The
proposed FSS provides security to wireless networks used by sensitive areas. It also provides
security to explosive devices by blocking both GSM 900 and GSM 1800 frequency bands.
A ringing cell phone can be very irritating in places of adoration, classrooms, and hospitals.
Trans European Trunked Radio GSM (TETRA GSM) is a bidirectional communication technology
informally known to Walkie Talkie. This well known technology used by emergency amenities,
armed forces, law enforcement and other government agencies.
Moreover, a mobile phone signal can be used to explode an ammunition lorry, an incendiary bomb
or any other explosive device, in an indoor environment or other extremely sensitive areas. Many
of these areas usually use jammers and other variants of reflectors to reflect and/or block GSM
signal. However, these reflectors have limitation in sense that they disturb other type of wireless
communication too. Therefore, there is a need to design an innovative reflector which can block
only desired signals.

Piano by D. H. Lawrence Essay
Piano by D. H. Lawrence
The poem Piano, by D. H. Lawrence describes his memories of childhood. Hearing a woman
singing takes him to the time when his mother played piano on Sunday evenings. In the present,
this woman is singing and playing the piano with great passion. However, the passionate music is
not affecting him, because he can only think about his childhood rather than the beauty of the
music that exists in his actual space.
A woman is singing softly to the speaker in the dusk. The speaker is describing the place he is at

This scenery is very pleasant and happy. A child is under his mother, he is touching her feet
. This
shows how his childhood must have been, and the readers can see the reason why he wants to
go back to his childhood. In the next four lines of the poem, the speaker talks about how he feels
as he imagines his childhood. Even though he is in front of this woman who is singing and
playing music, in spite of himself, his present state, this insidious mastery of song betrays the
speaker back till he weeps to go back to his childhood. The guileful dominance of the song the
woman is singing beguiles him to think about his past experience. His heart weeps to belong to
the old Sunday evenings at home. He really misses the time when he was little, and he used to hear
his mother playing piano every Sunday evening. He wants to go back to his childhood and belong
to that time again.
He describes the atmosphere at that time. It was winter outside and hymns in the cosy parlour,
the tinkling piano our guide. He is adding more description to the scenery he was imagining in
the first four lines of the poem. It s old Sundays, because this is when he was little, so he is

The analysis of stand up comedy can reveal the system of values and beliefs operating a culture.

when one goes on stage. Sociology provides a powerful looking glass to understand and make

An audience will go to a comedy club and get to laugh in the face of theses difficult topics which in
turn releases repressed anxiety.
Humor plays with self identification. For a person to laugh a person has to either identify or dis
identify with the teller or the target. People laugh because they have found themselves in a similar
situation or because the teller or target is so obviously unlike us. Dis identification also requires
identification because it requires the audience member to know consciously that there is no way
they are the butt of the joke.
Humor has the ability to humanize by humiliating. It targets by humiliating the butt by lampooning
flaws whether they are physical characteristics or psychological foibles. When an individual is

difference in online teaching and traditional teaching. Both of them have their advantages and
disadvantages. But, in this essay we are going to find out which teaching method is more fun yet

First things first, I am going to discuss about the discussion method in each teaching. The first

Online teaching and traditional teaching method differ in the way they discuss the lesson, using
the technology, and socializing. In terms of discussing lesson, online teaching will be so much
easier and practical since it can be accessed everywhere while traditional teaching cannot be

work your project whereas in traditional teaching your members are there for you to work, so there
is no need of you to use the internet to work. In using technology, these two teaching method differ
with the need of laptop or computer and internet connection. Online teaching requires you to have a
laptop and an internet connection whereas traditional teaching does not require you to have a
technology and an internet connection to work with. The next thing that online teaching and
traditional teaching differ is socializing. Online teaching makes you only socialize and
communicate with people that is only in the size of 14 inch screen, which is your laptop or

The Reasons Why United Airlines
Reasoning, Information Literacy, Communication, Scientific Literacy, Cultural Literacy, Lifelong
Personal Growth, Aviation Maintenance, Aviation Maintenance Management, and Aviation
Maintenance Safety.
To understand the reason why United Airlines (UAL) decided to implement SMS, we need to go
back and analyzed its system before it implemented SMS and also after it was implemented. To do
so, we will use critical thinking which is a disciplined process that consists of applying, and
evaluating data. According to the 2014 Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA)
record, before SMS was instituted at UAL, the recordable injury rate, the lost time injury, and the
aircraft damage rate were very high. But with SMS, everything started going down. For example,
in 2014 the recordable injury rate was down by 4 percent as compared to the previous year, the
lost time injury and its performing decreased by almost 24 percent. Also, the aircraft damage
decreased by five percent. As we all can see, before SMS, United had some serious problem keeping
up with safety and aircraft damages, but after SMS, we have seen some tremendous improvement in
the way they managed their safety. Now, to demonstrate the importance of the application of SMS
within UAL, the student will use quantitative reasoning, information literacy and scientific literacy.
Quantitative reasoning is defined as the ability to use technology, and current techniques to
interpret information to solve related problems.

A Business Plan For A Team
Introduction Every new business commences with a concept or thought or an idea. For instance,
an entrepreneur may be knowledgeable and passionate about something, or maybe there is an
urge to fill a gap in the marketplace and therefore turn the thought into a business. In order to
make this business idea work perfectly, it is necessary to carry out market research, write a
business plan including realistic projections, target the right market and prospects and develop
an effective team to support. A team is a group of individual coming together so as to achieve a

Further, stepwise regression is also known to pick smaller models than desired~footnote{http:/
/www.biostat.jhsph.edu/~iruczins/teaching/jf/ch10.pdf}. The criteria used in the step wise
variable selection process for this study was the Akaike information criterion (AIC). AIC
estimates the quality of each model, relative to each of the other models by estimating the
information lost when a model is used to represent the data. In doing so, it deals with the trade
off between the goodness of fit of the model and the number of parameters used. When using the
AIC criterion, the model with the least is the preferred model. After using the AIC selection
process, any insignificant variables which were selected by step wise regression were manually
removed from the model. There was also a need to consider the practicality of the model. Some
highly significant variables resulted in coefficients that were very small for any practical use. For
instance, if a variable resulted in a coefficient of $0.04$ then this coefficient would be $0.04
times$ the baseline hazard. This would consequently increase mortality by a factor of $e^{0.04}$

What Are The Advantages And Disadvantages Of Orlogans
ADVANCES IN REINFORCED RESTORATIONS: A REVIEW ORMOCERS Ormocers, a word
originally derived from organically modified ceramic, were originally developed for science and
technology (e. g. for special surfaces like protective coatings, non stick surfaces, anti static coatings
and non reflective coatings). In contrast to conventional composites, the ormocer matrix is not only
organic but also inorganic. Therefore monomers are better embedded in the matrix what reduces the
release of monomers.(373) Ormocers basically consist of three components organic and inorganic
portions and the polysiloxanes. The proportions of those components can affect the mechanical,
thermal and optical qualities of the material: 1.The organic polymers influence the polarity, the
ability to cross link, hardness and optical behaviour. 2.The glass and ceramic components (inorganic
constituents) are responsible for thermal expansion and chemical stability. 3.The polysiloxanes
influence the elasticity, interface properties and processing. 4.The inorganic components are bound
to the organic polymers by multifunctional silane molecules. After polymerisation the organic

Battle of the Bulge
The battle of the bulge
The battle of the bulge was Hitler s last chance to win the war or at least make the allies go for a
treaty. He did this because his forces were being pushed back into Germany and soon they would
run out of supplies and other resources for war. Hitler thought of this bold plain when he recalled
how a German hero Frederick the great was facing defeat, Frederick went on a offensive attack at
his foe who had superior numbers but the bold moved worked and Hitler thought he could do the
same thing.
The Battle of the bulge took place on December sixteenth 1944. More than a million men
participated in this battle including some 600,000 Germans, 500,000 Americans, and 55,000 British
which made it one of the biggest ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There would be three armies the 15th Army in the North, 7th Army in the South and the main push
by Sepp Dietrich s 6th and Von Manteuffel s 7th Panzer Divisions in the center! Specially trained
German soldiers who spoke English fluently were infiltrated behind the Allied lines wearing
American uniforms with orders to disrupt the deployment of Allied units and prepare the way for
the German advance.
The crucial problem for the German was their lack of fuel and the whole adventure depended on
their initial thrust capturing the allied supplies. Without a supply of fuel they where sitting ducks
but only if they ever ran out. Hitler s last attack had to work or he would be defeated. The plan was
to march 85 miles from Southern Belgium to Luxembourg and attack the allies by surprise. The
Germans would attack during the Christmas season in the Ardennes Forest, an area where there
were only a few allied solders. The invasion was designed to split the American and British armies
in half. However it did not succeed the allied lines bent but never split like the Germans hoped.
At the beginning of the battle Hitler had fighter jets fly over his troops which sent his troops fired
up for the fight now they could see Hitler did have the wonder weapons he said he had. With this
battle happening the Germans did one of the most worst things, as some Americans surrendered the
Germans would shoot them

Beowulf s Heroic Journey
Beowulf s heroic adventure is a reflection of the importance of heroism in dealing with challenges
that negatively affected the stability of the society in the early time periods.

Why Is Squealer Important In Animal Farm
Squealer, the king of Propaganda was a very relevant character in George Orwell s novel, Animal
Farm. Propaganda is an idea or a statement that is often false, but serves the point of supporting a
cause. Mostly know as Napoleon s Mouthpiece, Squealer defended Napoleon s decisions and
commandement. This worked every time because of the animalslack of intelligence, compared to his
skills to persuade his audience. Squealer s importance in this novel was crucial. He was like
Napoleon s back legs, and fought for everything Napoleon wanted. Squealer s way to persuade
everyone, even when the right decision was clear, proves his title as propaganda king.
Squealer was probably the smartest of them all, but used his potential for the worst.

Pathogenesis Of Arthrosclerosis
The pathogenesis of arthrosclerosis is a progressive disease of the vascular system, it starts while
we are young and progresses throughout our lives. The progression of arthrosclerosis, starts with an
injury to the endothelial lining of the arteries, from such diseases as, hypertension, high cholesterol,
diabetes and smoking. The damage to the endothelial cells causes dysfunction and the area with
endothelial cell inflammation draws leukocytes, cholesterol, vascular smooth muscle cells and
other debris, the buildup creates atherosclerotic plaque deposits in areas on an arterywall causing an
inflammatory process (Hoffman, 2007).
Over time the buildup of plaque on the artery walls produces hardening of the vessel walls and
blockages that slow the flow of blood throughout the body. Arthrosclerosis affects the heart,
peripheral arteries and the carotid and cerebral arteries that supply blood flow to the brain
(Arthrosclerosis, 2014). The effect on the body from arthrosclerosis causes other diseases to form,
peripheral vascular disease, coronary artery disease, hypertension, renal disease and stroke (Story,
2011). If the plaque buildup ruptures or breaks off, it forms a thrombus or blood clot that can cause
a stroke, heart attack or even death. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Those over forty years old have a fifty percent chance of developing arthrosclerosis and the
chances increase as we age. Ways to prevent arthrosclerosis or keeping it from worsening are to
stop smoking, eat a healthier diet, exercise and medications. Diabetics are at a higher risk for
developing arthrosclerosis because of the high levels of glucose in the blood that damages the
vessel, which creates inflammation and gives particles in the blood a place to stick and form plaque

Economic Factors in Unification of German People in the 19th Century
There is little debate about the factors concerned in nineteenth century German unification, the
argument commences when the most important is put to question. To find the most important we
must surely look to the primary factors, the instigating forces, or seeds if you will, that are required
for the formation of a Nation State. The great Bismarck was a leader that undoubtedly showed
much initiative and many would attribute the unification of the German speakers to his efforts, but
the economic necessaries came long before the man who used them. When the various factors are
combined Bismarck appears nothing more than a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The land given to Prussia contained large coal and iron mineral deposits and were welcomed for
their advantageous, monetary and military value. Industry grew rapidly from the mineral deposit
regions like the Saar and Ruhr valleys and eventually 80% of the total iron and coal production, in
the zollverien states, was Prussian.
Two primary and almost parallel economic developments enabled the growth and stability of the
German speaking states and one significant development was the formation of a customs union in
1834. With Prussian lands distributed in different areas on the European map due to the Vienna
congress, the commencement of the zollverien was of enormous importance and as we can see in
the following description it was one, not only of liberated trade, but of national identity:
On all the highways of Central Germany heavily laden wagons surrounded by noisy and merry
crowds waited in long queues at the customs houses. With the clock s final stroke of the old year
the turnpikes rose: accompanied by cheers and the crack of whips the horses pulled ahead into the
liberated land [3]
Before the improved zollverien the German speaking states had a pretty stagnant, although self
sufficient economy and controlled their own borders, tolls and currency. The dropping of the trade
tariffs and

How To Eat In Ancient Ghana How to eat in ancient Ghana. The Ancient Ghana civilization lasted
from about 300 1200 A.D.. The Ancient country lies in Western Africa where the modern
countries of Mali, Mauritania, and Senegal are today (Kingdom of Ghana). The people of Ghana
ate what they could provide by farming. They farmed crops such as corn and rice. The Niger river
,which cut across ancient Ghana, flooded like the Nile during the rainy season bringing water and
nutrients to their fields (Social Aspects of Ancient Ghana) . They raised animals such as Goats,
chickens, and sheep to eat. The people mostly ate several different types of soup with fufu, plantain,
bread, rice, and potatoes. The soups were nut based with different meats such as fish, mutton, goat,
or chicken added (Ancient Ghana Environment). Fufu is the african equivalent to mashed potatoes.
It normally accompanies soup or a meat with gravy. Fufu is rolled up into balls then a indenture is
made. It is then used to scoop up soup or gravy. In Central Africa Fufu is made out of cassava
tubers (Fufu). Cassava tubers are starchy roots from the spurge family (Euphorbiaceae) of plants
(Cassava Nutrition Facts and Health Benefits). In West Africa ,where Ghana was located, Fufu was
made out of yams. Yams are tubers root vegetables native to Africa... Show more content on

The Human Body Is A Complex System
The human body is a complex system that is composed of billions of cells, undergoing growth,
division and death in an orderly fashion on a daily basis. When this process occurs in an abnormal
manner, the outcome is typically referred to as a tumor. In today s world, tumor is a term that is
commonly heard throughout the world. Also referred to as neoplasm, a tumor is an abnormal
growth of tissue resulting from the rapid cell division due to some form of mutation (Cooper). They
are classified into four main groups: benign, in situ, malignant and those with uncertain or unknown
behaviour. Of the four classes of tumor, malignant neoplasms are those tumors that are typically
referred to as cancers (Cooper). These tumors involve abnormal cell growth that has the potential to
invade and destroy the surrounding tissue, possibly forming metastases and becoming fatal. Eye
tumors are secondary tumors that results from a primary tumor that has spread from other parts of
the body and have invaded the eye. There are two primary types that occur within the eye:
retinoblastoma in children, and melanoma in adults.
Ocular melanoma is a rare cancer that occurs in the adult eye (GuГ©nel et al.). Although there are
other types of eye cancer, ocular melanoma is the most commonly occurring and the most
dangerous. It is a malignant tumor that metastasizes and become fatal in about half of all occurring
cases. It is the second most common type of melanoma that occurs and accounts for 5% of all

A View From The Bridge Tension Essay Tension in Arthur Miller s A View From the Bridge In A View From the Bridge , Arthur Miller explores a variety of themes in the relationships between the main characters in order to build tension for the audience. Firstly, through Eddie s talk with Alfieri, we can see that he is jealous of Rodolfo s relationship with Catherine, and his eventual loss of authority in his own house leads to anger and a desire to once again become the stereotypical alpha male. This creates tension because the audience knows that he will want his authority back, and as he gets more and more desperate, the audience may think that he would do anything to regain control over his household. Secondly, although early in the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Moreover, Mike and Louis seem to share this view: He comes around, everybody s laughing, Mike is shown to say. The stage directions indicate multiple times that Mike and Louis laugh, and finally, they explode in laughter . This creates tension because if people find out that the person they laugh at is related to Eddie, then it will lower people s opinions on himself too, and the audience knows he does not want this. After this, is shown to tell Catherine that Rodolfo is a hit and run guy and only bowing to his passport . This creates tension because there is a sense of him abusing his power and the trust that Catherine has in him, and the audience does not know if she will realize this or what course of action she will take if she does. She protests disbelief but is clearly shaken until Beatrice reassures her. We can tell that she trusts Beatrice on this though, as Catherine is shown to say: All right and Ok as if to agree with Beatrice s views. Also, the stage directions say: Catherine, sensing now an imperious demand. The words imperious demand may suggest that Beatrice is ordering her rather than discussing or asking her, and this creates tension because the audience ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 4. Why Was LГ©vi-Strauss Still Relevant Today In this essay I will discuss why I believe that Claude LГ©vi Strauss work is still relevant today and I will focus on the role that he assigns to the social anthropologist. Claude LГ©vi Strauss was the most influential anthropologist theorist in France. His work which he contributed to anthropology still remains to have significant relevance in todays contemporary anthropology. He was born on the 28th of November 1908 and passed away on the 30th of October 2009. I will discuss his theory and what he argued for and against. Anthropologists like Durkheim, De Saussure, Simiand, Rousseau, Jakobson and Mauss and many more influenced LГ©vi Strauss when it came to his work. First I would like to explain the term anthropology according to (LГ©vi Strauss,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... LГ©vi Strauss discusses kinship, which in todays society is still very clear and important. Firstly when anthropologists discuss kinship they are concerned with social behaviours and not biological facts and the two sets of data are often so widely discrepant that it is often convenient to discuss kinship without any reference to biology (Leach, 1973: 96). We have to break down kinship terms into individual systems in order to see what relationship they have. Even though it states that kinship does not have to do with biology there has to be link as it is obvious that a child is related to their mother just like she is to her sister. LГ©vi Strauss is interested in in the systems and not as much with terms of kinship. He looks at the ties by which people are related, rather this be through siblingship and/or affinal relationships. In society in order for a child to be seen as a legitimate child they need to have two parents who are married. Society does not judge this opinion on the relationship between the child and his/her parents but on the relationship between the parents themselves. This extremity has faded into the background for the most part in the contemporary society but is still around in some cases as everyone is always interested in your family dynamic. The way in which people are related is still of great importance. LГ©vi Strauss does not look at the basic relationships for example mother/daughter and husband/wife, but he looks at the more complicated types of relationships such as the contrast between father/son and mother s brother/sister s son. According to LГ©vi Strauss in order for a kinship structure to exist three types of family relations must always be present: a relation of consanguinity, a relation of affinity and a relation of descent. The Value Of Interpersonal Skills The Value of Interpersonal Skills in Everyday Life and Business Lisa Roberts Nicholas University of the People Assignment 6 Abstract Thomas Malone of MIT Solan School discussed impersonal skills importance and his research, measuring intelligence groups. He felt that interpersonal skill are more important than before because it has become more important to think of businesses, and organizations not just in terms of how efficient or how productive they are but also in terms of their intelligence. Findings to his research lead to the discovery that for a group to be collectively intelligent it must have a lot of people who are socially perceptive. So even though his test was done based on reading emotions and eyes it must be completed with a much broader range of interpersonal skills, what you might call intelligence. (H. (n.d.). Why Interpersonal Skills Are More Important Than You Think). The following skills which we use in our personal and business communications are valuable to interpersonal skills. Listening is the ability to accurately receive and interpret messages during the communication process. For there to be effective communication, listening must play the essential part. Let s face it, when you need a ride somewhere and the driver pulls up to the curb, you get in, and worry about the rest later. If you were given a choice between two drivers when the taxis pulled up, and both drivers were equally approachable with very similar attributes, how would you choose which driver s door to open? Researchers in the marketing industry have studied this attraction effect for over three decades, and found that the placement of a decoy (asymmetrically dominated alternative) in the middle of a choiceset has the strength to influence consumer choices. Testing the attraction effect on rich perceptual stimuli (like a taxi driver) yields many answers, and personal differences may distort the decoy s intended purpose. In light of a decoy s power to influence choice on items containing contextual attributes (for example televisions, cars, toothpaste), I felt the purpose of my study should focus on whether a decoy holds the same power to influence consumers with items that are presented perceptually (like a movie, taste test, or a person providing a service), which are void of relevant underlying context. Research on the decoy effect (asymmetrical dominance, or attraction effect) has held its own in the world of marketing, and was introduced by Huber, Payne, and Puto (1982) when they demonstrated that the choices people make ... Luckily for me, there are many different cultures that have the context of Lilith, even if they do not call her that. Another thing that I did which ended up really playing out was researching the many different forms of Midrash and how they worked. Late start school is not beneficial for students because it causes whole communities to change their schedules, limits money towards education, and reduces the amount of enrichment that students can obtain. Late start school has a negative effect on the whole community, not just the students. One way that late start school would affect the whole community is that many bus routes would have to be altered to accommodate the late start schedule. Purchasing new buses and hiring new drivers would take away district/grant money that teachers need to purchase school supplies, pay for extracurricular activities, and pay for out of class activities. Whether it is your speed, group size, destination, status, culture, personality, distractions, or sex, one way of the other they manage to have an impact on walking behaviors. Past researchers have indicated that these factors may have an effect on walkingbehaviors and with our observation we put the theories to test. The factors taken into account were genderand group size and their effect on walking speed and interpersonal distance. Earlier research finding have reported that interpersonal distances are influenced by dominance, attraction, age, similarity and gender. Willis (1996) reported in his research that young people are more like to approach one another closer and as people tend to age the more personal space is recorded. A closer more intimate space is seen in opposite sexpairs (Aiello 1987; Crawford and Unger 2000; Hall 1984; Heshka and Nelson 1972). From this finding, researchers conclude that when people interact in closer distances they have an attraction or interpersonal relationship. Dominance, power, and status are also said lead to lower interpersonal distance. Similarities in race, sexual preference, religions are also factors that contribute to a closer interpersonal distance (Bell et al., 2001). According to some researchers negatively toned situations cause larger spatial zones (Strayer and Roberts 1997). Studies suggest that women are more prone to react in ... Human behavior and each respective society that is studied can be evaluated and governed by the scientific method to produce reliable results. The inquiries into these subjects are derived by the inspirations of sociological perspectives. Each stratifying field of Sociologyfinds an anchor in the relationships between these pieces in the human context in which they are found. Marx s conflict theory is a theoretical framework in which society is viewed as composed of groups that are competing for scarce resources. It also evokes the competition between the proletariat, and the bourgeois that holds the resources. In a similar macro sociological view, functionalism is a theoretical framework in which society is viewed as composed of various parts, each with a function that, when fulfilled, contributes to society s equilibrium; also known as functional analysis and structural functionalism. The over whelming flow of water is catastrophic leading to destruction of infrastructure, plants as well as causing loss of life to both animal and human beings. Flood may occur slowly while in cases of flash flood, they occur instantly within a short duration of minutes. School based crisis refer to unforeseen predicaments affecting a school set up. A school based crisis affects quite a significant portion of the school fraternity. Generally such crisis include: death of student, staff member or a community member who had had a big role in the school, major environmental crisis such as fire and situations that compromise the safety of students for instance a school bus accident, insecurity among others. Explain how the two crises are similar and how they are different, including their breadth of impact. On similarity, both situations involve destruction of properties and physical injury of victims, when it an environmental school based crisis. They also involves loss of life when the situation in the school ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 25. Your Dependent Variable And For Your Six Independent... I have data for my dependent variable and for my six independent variables. My dependent variable is inflation. The inflation data used in this paper comes from EuroStat. Inflation is calculated as the annual average rate of change (%) in the Harmonized Indices of Consumer Prices (HICP). The HICP is a consumer price index which has been harmonized across EU countries, in order to avoid differences in how the price index is calculated. Inflationvaries greatly across countries and the lowest inflation in this data set is 1.7%, while the highest is 5.5%. My first independent variable is interest rates and the data also comes from EuroStat. The rates used in this analysis are part of the interest rate on the main refinancing operations (MRO), which provides the bulk of liquidity to the banking system. The data encompasses both fixed rate and minimum bid rate since the ECB dropped the minimum bid rate and decided that the weekly main refinancing operations would be carried out through a fixed rate tender procedure in 2008. I hypothesize that the sign of this variable is negative since lower interest rates result in higher liquidity due to higher borrowing ability and less incentive for savings, boosting consumption and spending enhanced, which increase demand. The increased aggregate demand increases the price level, which causes inflation. My second variable is productivity growth. The productivity data used in this paper is from the OECD database and it is defined as the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This left the once compelling German sixth army was caught inside the city. It was simply an issue of time before the noose would begin to tighten around the worn down and tired Germans. At the point when the winter finished, things improved, the defrost that originated from the softening snow muddied almost every street making it amazingly troublesome for Nazi tanks, trucks and even men to travel. • 27. Deflation And The Theory Of Truth Deflation Accounts of Causation Introduction Several different theories accounts exist attempting to explain whether truth exists. Some of the common causation accounts include the deflation account, reifications, covering law model and unificationism accounts. The Deflation theory of truth states that a predicament of the truth does not attribute the property of the truth to a particular statement. Several theories are present under the deflation accounts of causation. They include the redundancy theory of truth and the perfection theory of the truth. These two theories are the major dominant theory around deflation accounts of causation. Although both theories attempt to explain and substantiate truth in a statement, the redundancy theory is stronger compared to the perfection theory of truth. The redundancy theory is claimed to be the first theory that came close to explaining predicaments of truth in a statement. No other account has achieved the same fate as the redundancy account. Redundancy Theory of Truth Also known as the disquotational theory of truth, the redundancy theory holds that a statement will always remain the truth even before if the predictive statement misses. The most common predicament statement used by most people is the it is truth . For example, when an individual says, Snow is white, it means that snow is white and even when the predictive statement is added it does not change the nature of the sentence (Damnjanovic, 2005). I found it amazing that they were able to tell a complete story on only visual elements. Nosferatu had many similarities to A trip to the Moon by George Melies. Comparatively it had more storytelling elements character development purely due to film length. I feel it would be very challenging to produce such a complex story under the constraints of such a short film. I believe my experience to be very typical of someone who has never watched a full length silent film, I was gripped with curiosity on how this film would tell the great story of Dracula without the stereotypical screams and jump scares that horror movies today bring to the screen. I feel like the film did a fantastic job of telling the story with the limitations of being able to use sound. Doctorow tells a story that blurs fact and fiction masterfully, often suspending the readers ability to discern historical narrative and fictionalized tales. Ragtime follows the lives of two fictional families in the Progressive Era; their roles in the novel develop in relation to their frequent interactions with real historical figures, in addition to their attendance at historical events. Doctorow uses fictional characters as in order to provide a comprehensive commentary on the social and economic issues plaguing the lives of common citizens the Progressive Era; the characters interactions with celebrities and dignitaries help to frame their lives within the context of an evolving nation. Perhaps no character represents the larger social issues of the Progressive Era more than Coalhouse Walker, a wealthy ragtime pianist turned violent murdering arsonist, whose actions create a comprehensive dialogue about how to best combat racism in pre World War I America. To understand the reason why United Airlines (UAL) decided to implement SMS, we need to go back and analyzed its system before it implemented SMS and also after it was implemented. To do so, we will use critical thinking which is a disciplined process that consists of applying, and evaluating data. According to the 2014 Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) record, before SMS was instituted at UAL, the recordable injury rate, the lost time injury, and the aircraft damage rate were very high. But with SMS, everything started going down. For example, in 2014 the recordable injury rate was down by 4 percent as compared to the previous year, the lost time injury and its performing decreased by almost 24 percent. Also, the aircraft damage decreased by five percent. As we all can see, before SMS, United had some serious problem keeping up with safety and aircraft damages, but after SMS, we have seen some tremendous improvement in the way they managed their safety. AIC estimates the quality of each model, relative to each of the other models by estimating the information lost when a model is used to represent the data. In doing so, it deals with the trade off between the goodness of fit of the model and the number of parameters used. When using the AIC criterion, the model with the least is the preferred model. After using the AIC selection process, any insignificant variables which were selected by step wise regression were manually removed from the model. There was also a need to consider the practicality of the model. Some highly significant variables resulted in coefficients that were very small for any practical use. The progression of arthrosclerosis, starts with an injury to the endothelial lining of the arteries, from such diseases as, hypertension, high cholesterol, diabetes and smoking. The damage to the endothelial cells causes dysfunction and the area with endothelial cell inflammation draws leukocytes, cholesterol, vascular smooth muscle cells and other debris, the buildup creates atherosclerotic plaque deposits in areas on an arterywall causing an inflammatory process (Hoffman, 2007).
