ROPE Model
The Resident Officer Program of Elgin (ROPE) originated in 1991. The ROPE program was created to
improve the quality of life for the Elgin residents, neighborhood by neighborhood, in combating crime
by working with the community to arrest the deteriorating conditions that existed. At the beginning of
ROPE, three cities became selected. Due to the great success of these three areas, in 1997 five new
ROPE neighborhoods were created. In 1993 the Illinois Court location was closed, in 1990 three years
after it opened in, due to the success of the ROPE program, supported by a substantial decrease in
crime.
Per the Sergeant Rick Santiago, the ROPE program is one of the several innovative programs that the

Summary and Response of 2b or Not 2b Essay
Zhang 1 Hao Zhang Professor Warmbold English 120, Section 06 24 March 2013 In the article 2b or
not 2b , David Crystal begins with discussing how others such as John Humphry argued that texters
are vandals who are doing to our language what Genghis Khan did to his neighbors 800 years ago.
They are destroying it (335). This is also the common belief of most people. People often argue about
the bad points of technology over our language. However, Crystal believes that texting can improve
children s ability to read and write rather than hinder their literacy as many people claim. He also
argues that not all texting are done in abbreviated words. Complex messages and institutional
messages are often texted in standard form of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
And then we can play with abbreviated forms. I think this is the same thing as learning to run. A baby
first need to learn to walk, and then he can run. We cannot reverse the order of these two things. So,
actually texting has no effect to improve children s literacy, it is just because children have the ability
to play with abbreviated forms. Children s literacy comes from their parents, their teachers rather than
texting messages. Personally, I often abbreviate my words when I send messages. I type u for you, cos
for because, 2moro for tomorrow, gdnite for goodnight, etc. I don t think these will affect my
sensitivity to standard English because I just use abbreviations for typing faster. The invention of SMS
itself is for people to contact more convenient. By using abbreviations, I can save time and energy,
which is adapted to the fast paced life in New York City. In the article, Crystal states that, English has
had abbreviated words ever since it began to be written down (339). Some abbreviations have become
their own words over the years. First, I feel worried about that. As one of my classmate said, As a
foreign speaker of language, it is already hard to grasp the language as it is right now, but if it were to
transform into an abbreviated form, it would take double the effort just to keep up with all the

Agent Orange Negative Effects
The Cancerous Side Effects of Agent Orange
Agent Orange was a powerful herbicide used by the U.S. military forces during the Vietnam War to
eliminate forest cover and crops. Up to four million people were exposed and now about one million
people suffer from serious health issues. Even their children who were not exposed can suffer from
spina bifida and birth defects, while up to four generation can have health problems. People who have
been exposed to Agent Orange can suffer from certain cancers like soft tissue sarcoma, non Hodgkin
lymphoma (NHL), Hodgkin disease, and even chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL).
Agent Orange was first introduced in 1961 six years after the Vietnam war began and is made up of a
mixture of two herbicides, 2,4,5 Trichlorophenoxyacetic acid and 2,4 Dichlorophenoxyacetic acid.
Both chemicals cause gene damage which is why most offspring of the people exposed have birth
defects. Once it has gotten into the body, it attached to a protein called the aryl hydrocarbon receptor,
where it then influences gene expression. It also contains 2,3,7,8 Tetrachlorodibenzodioxin, which is
considered the most toxic and even classified as a human carcinogen by the US Environmental
Protection Agency. With Agent Orange containing such toxic chemicals, many people had almost
immediate reactions. Some people had darkening skin where they had been exposed and some had
developed chloracne, an acne like skin disease. After they had been exposed, most people fell

The Court Case Of Gideon V. Case
[The United States, is it a country of deviant lawbreakers? Or is it a country of too many laws? There
were more than 12 million arrests in 2011, the question of how to adjudicate these cases has become
an issue for the federal, state and local courts across the country. The overcrowding of our court
dockets has become a major problem for court administrators working in every courthouse in the
United States. Why the courts are so overcrowded, and how the court administrators, judges, and
attorneys deal with overcrowding will be the focus of this paper. [There are several factors that
contribute to the excess numbers of cases in the court system today. One of the influences is the
Supreme Court case of Gideon v. Wainwright, 372 U.S. 335, a landmark case, which ruled that under
the Fourteenth Amendment states will provide counsel to individuals charged with a crime who cannot
afford to pay for an attorney themselves. Prior to this addition, Judges decided cases and the cases
moved much faster through the system. However, the addition of lawyers to each case and the need
for trials grew, in turn the speed of the system slowed. [Additionally, an enormous change to the
system is the increase in crime. Evidence shows that between 1982 and 1992 the number of people
behind bars in America doubled to one million, and arrest rates continue to soar (Moyers, 1992). There
are several schools of thought on the increase of crime, some attribute the influx of crack cocaine, and

Summary Of Damon Knight s The Country Of The Kind
Damon Knight s The Country of the Kind follows a narrator who the audience at first knows little
about, who lives in a society that is different from the norm, but is also initially left ambiguous. This
sense of the unknown exists up until the narrator stumbles upon a pamphlet which opens up new
viewpoints to the reader. The pamphlet serves to create three new perspectives in particular, all of
which significantly shift the reader s understanding of the story. First, it gives the reader a chance to
understand the narrator and sympathize with him. Second, it offers a new perspective on society and
their overall conception of what defines a utopia. The third and final perspective is that of the people
who live within this society, and their interactions with the main characters. These three new
perspectives prove to be formative in understanding the main character, his interactions with other
characters in the story, and the role of society. The reader s introduction to the main character is that of
a violent act, where he defaces a car that is implied to have been stolen in front of a car park worker.
There is no explanation for why he acted in such fashion, or why the attendant ducked his head away
and ignored him when he first caught eyes with the narrator. The reader at this point can assume that
the narrator has a history of violence in this society, but it is unclear why he has gone unpunished for
such acts, and more so it is unclear what his motivation behind his

Song Airlines Business Case Essay
Song Airlines Case
Song airline was a low cost carrier subsidiary of Delta airlines that started in 2003. It was formed to
compete with JetBlue and other low cost airlines for the Florida market. The market environment at
the time of the case was extremely difficult with the rising costs of fuel, increasing security
requirements after 9/11 and customers expectations of lower fares. It has forced many big players in
the airline industry into bankruptcy. The operational costs which include gate fees, ground operational
costs etc. were increasing causing even more problems for the airlines. The fares in the Florida route
were decreasing while the costs were ever increasing making it difficult to remain operational in that
space.

7. Used novel techniques by opening concept stores in Boston and New York to attract customers.
Song Airlines spent a lot of time analyzing the past data and did a lot of market research to come up
these various strategy points. And I think, it clearly shows that they used experience curve techniques
to analyze and use the data like gate utilization, flight attendant working times, seat usage, and flight
route scheduling etc. to optimize the operational aspects of running the overall operations. It was
stated that based on these initiatives they achieved 20 – 25% lower operational costs in running the
airline as compared to running it in a Delta configuration. By using the various main concepts like low
fares, great services and targeted marketing they were able to achieve good success. By focusing on
the main strategy aspects simultaneously like lowering operational costs, optimizing logistics,
increasing the service level and perceive value by portraying a high end service, Song was able to
integrate these various aspects nicely.
Some of the key opportunities in the current market environment for airline industry are:
1. Increasing Customer service levels. Consumers are generally expecting more fro airlines and Song
has already addressed this in original strategy which was very customer satisfaction based.
2. Understanding the responding to changing consumer behavior patterns. This is something

Plato’s 1st Argument for the Immortality of the Soul from...
Plato s 1st argument for the Immortality of the Soul from opposites and Theory of Reincarnation Plato
s Phaedo is a dialog between Phaedo, Cebes and Simmias where Socrates gives some arguments for
the immortality of the soul. In this work, Phaedo tells us about Socrates final days, who has been
convicted to death. Great philosopher does not have a fear of death because he believes that when a
man dies, the soul still exists even if the body perishes. Trying to prove his arguments, Socrates
presents two proofs Doctrine of Opposites and second which is based on Theory of Recollections. In
Phaedo he writes: That soul, I say, herself invisible, departs to the invisible world to the divine and
immortal and rational... . ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
People from these denominations do believe in concept of rebirth. But religious sects such as
Christianity, Islam and Judaism do not believe in theory of reincarnation. This theory is very close to
Plato and some other Greek philosophers who believe in the Immortality of the soul. As for me, in
some cases I do agree with Plato in Theory of Opposites. Undoubtedly, in our world we can always
find two opposite things, actions, etc. Small and tall people, healthy and unhealthy people, sunny and
cloudy day, hot and cold weather... But I do not believe in the Immortality of the soul in general. To
my mind Plato came to this conclusion due to the times he lives in. But we cannot base our beliefs on
what we want to be true; the truth can be found by weighing the evidence for a given idea. Thus, he
took what he knew to be true at the time and formulated his opinions which were founded on that
knowledge. I guess, if Plato lived nowadays, may be he would approach to another conclusion. I do
not think that Plato makes credible arguments for the immortality of the soul. To my mind, his
concepts were built on his desires. I mean, that life is difficult and awkward enough without knowing
of our mortality. There is inexplicable reality that so many people struggle so hard and it seems so
unjust. Let s take a simple example of a man, who has passed away in the accident. He did not do
anything wrong as most people he was working,

Sign Language, Cochlear Implants And Turns Others Essay
Sign language, cochlear implants, or both? It is the debate that has plagued parents of young deaf
children all over nation. They are torn with the decision between potentially restoring the hearing of
their child or immersing them in the beauty of Deaf culture. It seems that no matter what decision they
make, there will be backlash. The Deaf community feels like a member is being taken away from
them, and hearing people cannot understand why someone wouldn t want their child to have the
ability to hear. Though we cannot fully understand what it is like to be faced with this choice unless
we have been in this position, we can explore the pros and cons of either side. So what is it that leads
to some parents to make the leap for cochlear implants and turns others towards the sign language
side? To fully understand why this is a popular debate, we must first explore Deaf culture. Dr. Beth
Sonnenstrahl Benedict from the Hands and Voices organization states that The American Deaf
community values American Sign Language as the core of a culturally Deaf identity (Benedict par 1).
Language is a crucial aspect of a culture, and American Sign Language unifies the Deaf community.
Although it is often dismissed as a language, ASL has its own unique sentence structure and
vocabulary that make it different from English or any other foreign language. Many believe that
allowing a deaf child to learn sign language is essential to them embracing their deafness as well as

Examination Of Past And Present Ethical Guidelines On...

Ethics of Biomedical Science Research
Ioan Alexandru Beldean
Examination of past and present ethical guidelines on biomedical research
Ethics can be defined as a set of moral values informing one s decisions. But this set of moral values
can be influenced by many different things, such as various cultures, religions, and even technological
advancements. This is called moral relativism, the idea that there are no real truths in ethics and what
is right or wrong varies person by person. That is why before there was any codes or set of rules
regarding what was ethical put in place, people were able to get away with doing all sorts of scientific
research, that would now be deemed unethical. Biomedical research is to be done to eventually better
the health of humans.
Biomedical research has been going on for many years, it is how we have knowledge of many deadly
diseases as well as the discovery of vaccines and antibiotics! These things seem so common today, but
infact went through lots of stages of research to get to the technologies we have today. However,
before 1947, there were no codes of ethics or regulations to ensure that research being done was
ethical. The smallpox vaccination, although the first successful vaccine to ever be developed, would
be considered highly unethical today. Edward Jenner experimented on a healthy young 8 year old boy
without consent. In today s society, this study would never have been allowed to continue. There are
many other

These same vehicles use to case lest than $35.00 at a lower gas price. Rising gas price affect every

Inspect Your Exterior Doors for Damage In an emergency evacuation situation, you don t want poorly
constructed or maintained exterior doors trapping your employees inside. Take a few minutes to
inspect important aspects of the door, such as the hinges, the latch, and the knob. Questions to ask
when inspecting your doors include: Do the hinges move easily or haltingly? Is there any catch in the
latch or any trick you need to use to get it open? Does the door handle move easily or with difficulty?
Is the door too heavy for weaker employees to move? Does it swing inward, potentially preventing
people from escaping in a panic? If the answer to any of these questions is problematic, it may be time
to either get your door repaired or replaced. After all, you don t want an inward swinging door
dooming your employees to a death by fire. Bring It Together With a Fire Drill Conducting fire drills
is the best way to check how prepared your employees are for an emergency. Never announce them
before: unveiling them without warning will help make sure your employees know exactly what to

trials arguing that the defendant is not responsible for their actions due to an episodic or persistent
psychiatric disease. ( Insanity defense, 2016)
In North Carolina we use The M Naghten Rule to determine insanity. Other states may also use: The
Irresistible Impulse Test, The Durham Rule and The American Law Institute s Model Penal Code Test.
(US Legal, 2001) The M Naghten Rule focuses on whether a criminal defendant knew the nature of
the crime or understood right from wrong at the time it was committed. This rule was established by
the English House of Lords in the mid 19th Century. Under this rule, the defendant is presumed to be

PEKING DUCK
Peking duck is a famous duck dish from Beijing that has been prepared since the imperial era. The
meat is prized for its thin, crisp skin, with authentic versions of the dish serving mostly the skin and
little meat, sliced in front of the diners by the cook. Ducks bred specially for the dish are slaughtered
after 65 days and seasoned before being roasted in a closed or hung oven. The meat is eaten with
scallion, cucumber and sweet bean sauce with pancakes rolled around the fillings. Sometimes pickled
radish is also inside, and other sauces (like hoisin sauce) can be used.
The cooked Peking Duck is traditionally carved in front of the diners and served in three stages. First,
the skin is served dipped in sugar and garlic sauce. The meat is then served with steamed pancakes
spring onions and sweet bean sauce. Several vegetable dishes are provided to accompany the meat,
typically cucumber sticks. The diners spread sauce, and optionally sugar, over the pancake. The
pancake is wrapped around the meat with the vegetables and eaten by hand. The remaining fat, meat
and bones may be made into a broth, served as is, or the meat chopped up and stir fried with sweet

A Definition of Collaborative vs Cooperative Learning
A Definition of Collaborative vs Cooperative Learning
Ted Panitz (1996)
[pic]
I have been searching for many years for the Holy Grail of interactive learning, a distinction between
collaborative and cooperative learning definitions. I am getting closer to my elusive goal all the time
but I am still not completely satisfied with my perception of the two concepts. I believe my confusion
arises when I look at processes associated with each concept and see some overlap or inter concept
usage. I will make a humble attempt to clarify this question by presenting my definitions and
reviewing those of other authors who have helped clarify my thinking.
Collaboration is a philosophy of interaction and personal lifestyle whereas cooperation is a ... Show

The major difference lies in the fact that cooperative deals exclusively with traditional (canonical)
knowledge while collaborative ties into the social constructivist movement, asserting that both
knowledge and authority of knowledge have changed dramatically in the last century. The result has
been a transition from foundational (cognitive) understanding of knowledge , to a nonfoundational
ground where we understand knowledge to be a social construct and learning a social process (Brufee,
Collaborative learning: Higher Education, Interdependence, and the Authority of Knowledge, 1993).
Rockwood states:
In the ideal collaborative environment, the authority for testing and determining the appropriateness of
the group product rests with, first, the small group, second, the plenary group (the whole class) and
finally (but always understood to be subject to challenge and revision) the requisite knowledge
community (i.e. the discipline: geography, history, biology etc.) The concept of non foundational
knowledge challenges not only the product acquired, but also the process employed in the acquisition
of foundational knowledge.
Most importantly, in cooperative, the authority remains with the instructor, who retains ownership of
the task, which involves either a closed or a closable (that is to say foundational) problem ( the
instructor knows or can predict the answer). In collaborative, the instructor once the task is set

Why not? Because it s a fake, Severus said, a mere replica of the item the Dark Lord wishes to

Internet Censorship Essay example
Censorship of the Internet
We should demand that all public schools and libraries install and configure Internet Filters. This
statement shows how Jeffery Pollock, a candidate for the 3rd Congressional District seat in Oregon,
views the Internet. Unfortunately for him, the one thing that he ranted and raved about was the one
thing that gave him an unfair disadvantage in the in the upcoming elections. (Blind Ballots) Cyber
Patrol, One of the leading Internet censoring companies and is used in over 17,000 schools in the
Untied States, actually blocked his website from potential voters. Needless to say, when Mr. Pollock
discovered this injustice, some of his views about Internet censorship changed. But Mr. Pollock isn t

It would be beneficial to censor the Internet in schools if the censoring program actually worked;
sadly none of the programs are good enough and actually do more harm than good. If there is a
student who wants to find porn on the Internet, he will because the censoring programs suck. Not only
will he find the porn, but also he will not get into trouble for it because since it is censored only good
sites that are approved are available. When I was in high school, I did an Ecology paper and the
censoring program actually blocked out informational internet pages about black bears and bullfrogs,
simply because it contained information about mating habits, which is ridiculous.
Many highly respectable organizations are completely against Internet censorship. One such
organization is the American Library Association or ALA. The ALA is against any type of censoring
software or programs in any of their affiliations across the nation. In Fact, a line in the ALA code of
ethics specifically states, We uphold the principles of intellectual Freedom and resist all efforts to
censor library resources. (Weckert 44) There is no mistaking that the ALA is against censorship.
Another highly regarded source is The Universal Declaration of Human Rights, In this Article 19

Texas Triangle:
The Texas Triangle is one of only eleven megaregions in the United States. Megaregions are urban
areas that are much superior in scale than a metropolitan statistical area (MSA), as defined by the US
Census Bureau. Sometimes areas like this are also called a as megapolitan area. The Texas Triangle is
formed by the three major cities; Houston, Dallas/Ft. Worth, and San Antonio. These cities are
connected by a three major Interstates 45, 10, and Interstate 35. If you followed those main routes and
drew a line on a map you would see the route to and from those cities forms an actual triangle. Three
of the nation s 10 largest cities are in the Triangle, including Houston, whose port handles more
foreign tonnage any other port in the United States. Currently, the Texas Triangle is home to just over
19 million people. The clear majority of those 19 million live in Austin, Dallas/Fort Worth, Houston,
San Antonio. By 2025 the population in the Texas Triangle is expected to reach just over 25 million

Autotrophs Research Paper
Autotrophs are able to store chemical energy in food molecules they build themselves. Food is
chemical energy stored in organic molecules, it provides both the energy to do work and the carbon to
build the organisms body. Since most autotrophs transform sunlight to make food, the process they use
is called photosynthesis. There are only three groups of organisms are capable of this energy
transformation: plants, algae, and some bacteria. Autotrophs make food for their own use, but they
make enough to support other life as well. Almost all other organisms depend on these three groups
for the food they produce. The producers, as autotrophs are also known, begin food chains which feed
all life.

The invaluable works of our elder writers re driven into neglect by frantic novels, sickly and stupid

It was not until around 1960 that academics like Robert Hume rose to its defence. (Maybe its renewed
popularity was something to do with the very unique socio political situation in the 1960s echoing a
the unique situation of the late eighteenth century, the heyday of the genre.) Since then there has been
a deluge of commentary which has elevated the genre to a critical and scholarly favourite.
It is often said that one of the unifying features of Romanticism is its intentional political relevance.
Much of the canonical Romantic literature is inspired or informed by socio political events. We need
only look at Blake s work or key poems by second generation Romantics like Shelley s Ode to the
West Wind or The Mask of Anarchy to verify this.
The same is true of Romantic Gothic which arose around that unique period in European history
posthumously defined by the French Revolution but significant for its trans European massive cultural
and social upheaval indicated in part by repeated rioting in Britain (Lowe, vii) and a widespread
clamour for various reforms. Victor Sage writes, English Gothick of the eighteenth century is seen as a
collective symptom of political pressure felt all over Europe.

The Movement Of Positive Psychology
The movement of positive psychology is a reminder that our field and study has been focusing on
things like anxiety, disease, weakness, and damage. This movement urged us to shift our focus to
include the study of strength and virtue as well. Positive psychology is stating that the field of
psychology is more than just the study of illness or health but rather it is also about work, education,
insight, love, growth, and play (Seligman, 2002). Positive psychology is the study of strengths that
enable individuals and communities to thrive and it is founded on the belief that people want to lead
meaningful and fulfilling lives.
Pain, suffering, and death can be integrated into positive psychology through the idea of what gives us
meaning in life. As human beings we are always looking for meanings in our life and how we should
live. We want to cultivate what is best within ourselves. As suggested in the readings on death and
dying, the authors stated that when people become aware of their mortality, they become freer and
even more compassionate (Martin, Campbell, Henery). This is because when we realize that there is
no escaping death, we no longer live life by societal norms and rules but rather live life by our own
rules. We learn to embrace life differently by focusing on the positive aspect of our life knowing that
death is waiting. From a positive psychology perspective, we are shifting our focus from the negative
aspects of our life to the mores positive aspects

to fulfill all these needs. Even thou, Sierra Leone has great natural resources such as: diamonds, gold
and bauxite, the country has been struggling with a legal mining of those resources due to a power
conflict between the government and rebel s forces as well as international influence. The dependence
of Sierra Leone on more advanced countries, just like in any other example of underdeveloped

to avoid starvation for Sierra Leonean nation. The relationship is based on uneven opportunities. The
advanced countries are taking advantage on their exports of products such as: rice, potatoes, or even

Women In Persian Letters
Although the crux of Montesquieu s Persian Letters is in his political theory, there is another
component to his novel the status and treatment of women. Amongst the hundreds of letters detailing
Usbek and Rica s exploits throughout Europe, are revelations from Usbek s wives and eunuchs of a
disruption in the gender dynamics of the seraglio while he is abroad. Throughout the duration of
Usbek s journey lingers the persisting tension resulting from his deteriorating influence in his home in
Persia. Given the weight Montesquieu gives to the matters of Usbek s seraglio, it is irrefutable that not
only is the portrayal of the wives of Persian Letters worth examining, but also the power that the
author provides them. Yet, the difficulty of this ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Formally, seraglio acts as an extension of Usbek s authority; a marker of his power as a man is in his
ability to govern the affairs of the household. Nonetheless, the progression of Persian Letters
coincides with the weakening of Usbek s hold on the seraglio, and thus, the weakening of his ability to
govern domestic affairs. The chief eunuch, assisted by the various slaves, is declared proxy for Usbek
during his European travels, and is directed to obey the wishes of the women, such as granting them
visits to the countryside, while simultaneously commanding them. Despite this, the wives quickly
establish that while the power of the seraglio may be formally vested in the chief eunuch, in actuality
it lays with them. Within the first year of Usbek s departure, the women already begin to assert their
authority among the eunuchs, issuing various demands that must be fulfilled. The chief eunuch
expounds on how his clout within the household is not absolute, revealing that between him and the
wives exists a kind of flux and reflux of power and submission (13). However, the idea of power
fluctuating between the wives and the chief eunuch is merely a pretense. The accountability for the
women s welfare rests with the chief eunuch, and if he is to fail in his duty to safeguard the inhabitants
of the seraglio, he is

The Magnificent Seven And Seven Samurai
When recreating a classic film, especially when it is through a different cultural lense, it is inevitable
that the original plot, characters, and overall feeling of the movie will be skewed. Our cultural
identities and social norms are so ingrained into us that they are bound to be reflected in our art. The
film conversion from the Japanese made Seven Samurai to the American remake, The Magnificent
Seven, is a poignant example of this. Despite having almost identical plot lines, the films emanate
contrasting feelings and to a certain extent, portray different messages. When examining the role of
American culture in film, one often looks to the quintessential romance or action plots, stories in
which true love conquers all or an underdog overcomes adversity to defeat a villain. As demonstrated
by these iconic storylines and The Magnificent Seven film, American culture places a strong value on
individualism and the idealistic approach to life, which similar to the American dream, tells us that
hard work will always be rewarded. On the other hand, Seven Samurais greatly emphasizes family,
unity, and the consequences of our actions, demonstrating the importance of interdependence and
realism in Japanese culture. The films opposing views of identity and community are evidenced in the
strikingly different portrayals of the antagonists. In Seven Samurais, there is no one villain, instead the
bandits themselves represent the force of evil in the story. On the other hand, in

Proponents Of Lawyer Dissatisfaction Discredit The...
C. Reasons to Question Survey Data
Proponents of lawyer dissatisfaction discredit the reliability of survey data in several ways. First,
proponents look at the procedural and substantive defects inherent to survey testing. Second,
proponents highlight related survey data such as the high levels of lawyer depression, alcoholism, and
suicide rates, to name a few which are complimentary to the view that many lawyers are dissatisfied.
Last, proponents and opponents alike, suggest that lawyers may be in denial or untruthful when
responding to satisfaction surveys. Therefore, proponents of lawyer dissatisfaction argue that survey
data is unreliable in measuring lawyer dissatisfaction. David Chambers, a law professor at the
University of Michigan Law School, argues that procedural and substantive defects inherent to survey
data make it an unreliable method for measuring lawyer dissatisfaction. First, most lawyers only place
themselves above the midpoint on a satisfaction scale, which is barely more positive than negative.
Second, surveys are conducted at a specific time and place, and therefore do not give a complete
analysis of satisfaction. Last is the fact that many lawyers do not respond to surveys; and this is likely
to be the most true among lawyers that are the least satisfied. As a result, the deference given to
positive claims about lawyer satisfaction are not grounded in reliable evidence. Positive survey data
on lawyer satisfaction cannot be reconciled with

The Change of the Irish Question between 1800 and 1922 Essay
The Change of the Irish Question between 1800 and 1922
The Irish Question changed dramatically between the years 1800 and 1922. The Anglican Ascendancy
meant that Ireland was governed indirectly from England. The Ascendancy angered the Catholics,
limited their rights and made them pay taxes to the Protestant church. This led to dissatisfaction
amongst Catholics culminating in the 1798 Rebellion. This caused the British Government to become
more involved with Ireland, as they began to fear that Revolution could occur. It revealed to them the
weaknesses of the existing, divided system in Ireland and the need for the Question to be addressed.
The Act of Union represented the first phase of the Irish ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Emancipation would be the focus of the Irish Question from this point onwards.
Daniel O Connell became the key individual at this point as he formed the Catholic Association in
1823 and he believed that Emancipation was a step towards Home Rule. He campaigned by using
peaceful methods and mass organization. This was therefore a new way of addressing the Irish
Question and gaining middle class support, which wouldn t want to support violent rebellion that
might harm their property. O Connell convinced the population that there was a link between political
equality and economic prosperity, by saying that if they got the vote they would also gain economic
benefits and the Ascendancy would end as Catholics gained positions of power. The Catholic Rent of
one penny a month was introduced, which was paid by the Catholics to fund the Catholic Association.
This separated the Catholics and Protestants further as it alienated Protestants. It made the Irish
Catholic Church a vital part of the movement, because priests were required to spread the message and
help collect Catholic rent. The Catholic Association organised open public meetings in which O
Connell was the speaker, who hinted that if the British Government did not adhere to the Irish
demands the

The second digit was the longest of the three digits present, while the first was shortest. The structure
of the carpal (wrist) bones prevented pronation of the wrist and forced the hands to be held with the

CHAPTER TWO PROJECT EXECUTION AND EXPERIENCE 2.1 Schedule of Activities of
Students for the Project Work 2.2 Explanation of Theories Used Organizational decision making is
defined as the process of responding to a problem by searching for and selecting a solution or course

Mighty Morphin Power Rangers
A hero is someone who is looked up to for their admirable qualities. Heroes come in all different
shapes and sizes and we all have them, whether they are police officers, firefighters, soldiers, or even

The ROPE program was created to improve the quality of life for the Elgin residents, neighborhood by neighborhood, in combating crime by working with the community to arrest the deteriorating conditions that existed. At the beginning of ROPE, three cities became selected. Due to the great success of these three areas, in 1997 five new ROPE neighborhoods were created. In 1993 the Illinois Court location was closed, in 1990 three years after it opened in, due to the success of the ROPE program, supported by a substantial decrease in crime. Summary and Response of 2b or Not 2b Essay Zhang 1 Hao Zhang Professor Warmbold English 120, Section 06 24 March 2013 In the article 2b or not 2b , David Crystal begins with discussing how others such as John Humphry argued that texters are vandals who are doing to our language what Genghis Khan did to his neighbors 800 years ago. They are destroying it (335). This is also the common belief of most people. People often argue about the bad points of technology over our language. However, Crystal believes that texting can improve children s ability to read and write rather than hinder their literacy as many people claim. He also argues that not all texting are done in abbreviated words. Complex messages and institutional messages are often texted in standard form of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... And then we can play with abbreviated forms. I think this is the same thing as learning to run. A baby first need to learn to walk, and then he can run. We cannot reverse the order of these two things. So, actually texting has no effect to improve children s literacy, it is just because children have the ability to play with abbreviated forms. Children s literacy comes from their parents, their teachers rather than texting messages. Personally, I often abbreviate my words when I send messages. I type u for you, cos for because, 2moro for tomorrow, gdnite for goodnight, etc. I don t think these will affect my sensitivity to standard English because I just use abbreviations for typing faster. The invention of SMS itself is for people to contact more convenient. By using abbreviations, I can save time and energy, which is adapted to the fast paced life in New York City. In the article, Crystal states that, English has had abbreviated words ever since it began to be written down (339). Some abbreviations have become their own words over the years. First, I feel worried about that. As one of my classmate said, As a foreign speaker of language, it is already hard to grasp the language as it is right now, but if it were to transform into an abbreviated form, it would take double the effort just to keep up with all the ... Agent Orange Negative Effects The Cancerous Side Effects of Agent Orange Agent Orange was a powerful herbicide used by the U.S. military forces during the Vietnam War to eliminate forest cover and crops. Up to four million people were exposed and now about one million people suffer from serious health issues. Even their children who were not exposed can suffer from spina bifida and birth defects, while up to four generation can have health problems. People who have been exposed to Agent Orange can suffer from certain cancers like soft tissue sarcoma, non Hodgkin lymphoma (NHL), Hodgkin disease, and even chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL). Agent Orange was first introduced in 1961 six years after the Vietnam war began and is made up of a mixture of two herbicides, 2,4,5 Trichlorophenoxyacetic acid and 2,4 Dichlorophenoxyacetic acid. Both chemicals cause gene damage which is why most offspring of the people exposed have birth defects. Once it has gotten into the body, it attached to a protein called the aryl hydrocarbon receptor, where it then influences gene expression. It also contains 2,3,7,8 Tetrachlorodibenzodioxin, which is considered the most toxic and even classified as a human carcinogen by the US Environmental Protection Agency. • 5. The Court Case Of Gideon V. Case [The United States, is it a country of deviant lawbreakers? Or is it a country of too many laws? There were more than 12 million arrests in 2011, the question of how to adjudicate these cases has become an issue for the federal, state and local courts across the country. The overcrowding of our court dockets has become a major problem for court administrators working in every courthouse in the United States. Why the courts are so overcrowded, and how the court administrators, judges, and attorneys deal with overcrowding will be the focus of this paper. [There are several factors that contribute to the excess numbers of cases in the court system today. One of the influences is the Supreme Court case of Gideon v. Wainwright, 372 U.S. 335, a landmark case, which ruled that under the Fourteenth Amendment states will provide counsel to individuals charged with a crime who cannot afford to pay for an attorney themselves. Prior to this addition, Judges decided cases and the cases moved much faster through the system. However, the addition of lawyers to each case and the need for trials grew, in turn the speed of the system slowed. [Additionally, an enormous change to the system is the increase in crime. Evidence shows that between 1982 and 1992 the number of people behind bars in America doubled to one million, and arrest rates continue to soar (Moyers, 1992). There are several schools of thought on the increase of crime, some attribute the influx of crack cocaine, and other ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Summary Of Damon Knight s The Country Of The Kind Damon Knight s The Country of the Kind follows a narrator who the audience at first knows little about, who lives in a society that is different from the norm, but is also initially left ambiguous. This sense of the unknown exists up until the narrator stumbles upon a pamphlet which opens up new viewpoints to the reader. The pamphlet serves to create three new perspectives in particular, all of which significantly shift the reader s understanding of the story. First, it gives the reader a chance to understand the narrator and sympathize with him. Second, it offers a new perspective on society and their overall conception of what defines a utopia. The third and final perspective is that of the people who live within this society, and their interactions with the main characters. These three new perspectives prove to be formative in understanding the main character, his interactions with other characters in the story, and the role of society. The reader s introduction to the main character is that of a violent act, where he defaces a car that is implied to have been stolen in front of a car park worker. There is no explanation for why he acted in such fashion, or why the attendant ducked his head away and ignored him when he first caught eyes with the narrator. The reader at this point can assume that the narrator has a history of violence in this society, but it is unclear why he has gone unpunished for such acts, and more so it is unclear what his motivation behind his ... It was formed to compete with JetBlue and other low cost airlines for the Florida market. The market environment at the time of the case was extremely difficult with the rising costs of fuel, increasing security requirements after 9/11 and customers expectations of lower fares. It has forced many big players in the airline industry into bankruptcy. It was stated that based on these initiatives they achieved 20 – 25% lower operational costs in running the airline as compared to running it in a Delta configuration. By using the various main concepts like low fares, great services and targeted marketing they were able to achieve good success. By focusing on the main strategy aspects simultaneously like lowering operational costs, optimizing logistics, increasing the service level and perceive value by portraying a high end service, Song was able to integrate these various aspects nicely. Some of the key opportunities in the current market environment for airline industry are: 1. Increasing Customer service levels. Plato s 1st argument for the Immortality of the Soul from opposites and Theory of Reincarnation Plato s Phaedo is a dialog between Phaedo, Cebes and Simmias where Socrates gives some arguments for the immortality of the soul. In this work, Phaedo tells us about Socrates final days, who has been convicted to death. Great philosopher does not have a fear of death because he believes that when a man dies, the soul still exists even if the body perishes. People from these denominations do believe in concept of rebirth. But religious sects such as Christianity, Islam and Judaism do not believe in theory of reincarnation. This theory is very close to Plato and some other Greek philosophers who believe in the Immortality of the soul. As for me, in some cases I do agree with Plato in Theory of Opposites. Undoubtedly, in our world we can always find two opposite things, actions, etc. Small and tall people, healthy and unhealthy people, sunny and cloudy day, hot and cold weather... But I do not believe in the Immortality of the soul in general. To my mind Plato came to this conclusion due to the times he lives in. But we cannot base our beliefs on what we want to be true; the truth can be found by weighing the evidence for a given idea. Thus, he took what he knew to be true at the time and formulated his opinions which were founded on that knowledge. I guess, if Plato lived nowadays, may be he would approach to another conclusion. I do not think that Plato makes credible arguments for the immortality of the soul. To my mind, his concepts were built on his desires. I mean, that life is difficult and awkward enough without knowing of our mortality. There is inexplicable reality that so many people struggle so hard and it seems so unjust. They are torn with the decision between potentially restoring the hearing of their child or immersing them in the beauty of Deaf culture. It seems that no matter what decision they make, there will be backlash. The Deaf community feels like a member is being taken away from them, and hearing people cannot understand why someone wouldn t want their child to have the ability to hear. Though we cannot fully understand what it is like to be faced with this choice unless we have been in this position, we can explore the pros and cons of either side. So what is it that leads to some parents to make the leap for cochlear implants and turns others towards the sign language side? To fully understand why this is a popular debate, we must first explore Deaf culture. Dr. Beth Sonnenstrahl Benedict from the Hands and Voices organization states that The American Deaf community values American Sign Language as the core of a culturally Deaf identity (Benedict par 1). Language is a crucial aspect of a culture, and American Sign Language unifies the Deaf community. Although it is often dismissed as a language, ASL has its own unique sentence structure and vocabulary that make it different from English or any other foreign language. Eilidh Cowan Ethics of Biomedical Science Research Ioan Alexandru Beldean Examination of past and present ethical guidelines on biomedical research Ethics can be defined as a set of moral values informing one s decisions. But this set of moral values can be influenced by many different things, such as various cultures, religions, and even technological advancements. This is called moral relativism, the idea that there are no real truths in ethics and what is right or wrong varies person by person. That is why before there was any codes or set of rules regarding what was ethical put in place, people were able to get away with doing all sorts of scientific research, that would now be deemed unethical. Biomedical research is to be done to eventually better the health of humans. Biomedical research has been going on for many years, it is how we have knowledge of many deadly diseases as well as the discovery of vaccines and antibiotics! These things seem so common today, but infact went through lots of stages of research to get to the technologies we have today. However, before 1947, there were no codes of ethics or regulations to ensure that research being done was ethical. The smallpox vaccination, although the first successful vaccine to ever be developed, would be considered highly unethical today. The major difference lies in the fact that cooperative deals exclusively with traditional (canonical) knowledge while collaborative ties into the social constructivist movement, asserting that both knowledge and authority of knowledge have changed dramatically in the last century. The result has been a transition from foundational (cognitive) understanding of knowledge , to a nonfoundational ground where we understand knowledge to be a social construct and learning a social process (Brufee, Collaborative learning: Higher Education, Interdependence, and the Authority of Knowledge, 1993). Rockwood states: In the ideal collaborative environment, the authority for testing and determining the appropriateness of the group product rests with, first, the small group, second, the plenary group (the whole class) and finally (but always understood to be subject to challenge and revision) the requisite knowledge community (i.e. the discipline: geography, history, biology etc.) The concept of non foundational knowledge challenges not only the product acquired, but also the process employed in the acquisition of foundational knowledge. Most importantly, in cooperative, the authority remains with the instructor, who retains ownership of the task, which involves either a closed or a closable (that is to say foundational) problem ( the instructor knows or can predict the answer). Food is chemical energy stored in organic molecules, it provides both the energy to do work and the carbon to build the organisms body. Positive psychology is stating that the field of psychology is more than just the study of illness or health but rather it is also about work, education, insight, love, growth, and play (Seligman, 2002). Positive psychology is the study of strengths that enable individuals and communities to thrive and it is founded on the belief that people want to lead meaningful and fulfilling lives. Pain, suffering, and death can be integrated into positive psychology through the idea of what gives us meaning in life. As human beings we are always looking for meanings in our life and how we should live. We want to cultivate what is best within ourselves. As suggested in the readings on death and dying, the authors stated that when people become aware of their mortality, they become freer and even more compassionate (Martin, Campbell, Henery). This is because when we realize that there is no escaping death, we no longer live life by societal norms and rules but rather live life by our own rules. We learn to embrace life differently by focusing on the positive aspect of our life knowing that death is waiting. • 39. The Magnificent Seven And Seven Samurai When recreating a classic film, especially when it is through a different cultural lense, it is inevitable that the original plot, characters, and overall feeling of the movie will be skewed. Our cultural identities and social norms are so ingrained into us that they are bound to be reflected in our art. The film conversion from the Japanese made Seven Samurai to the American remake, The Magnificent Seven, is a poignant example of this. Despite having almost identical plot lines, the films emanate contrasting feelings and to a certain extent, portray different messages. When examining the role of American culture in film, one often looks to the quintessential romance or action plots, stories in which true love conquers all or an underdog overcomes adversity to defeat a villain. As demonstrated by these iconic storylines and The Magnificent Seven film, American culture places a strong value on individualism and the idealistic approach to life, which similar to the American dream, tells us that hard work will always be rewarded. On the other hand, Seven Samurais greatly emphasizes family, unity, and the consequences of our actions, demonstrating the importance of interdependence and realism in Japanese culture. • 40. Proponents Of Lawyer Dissatisfaction Discredit The... C. Reasons to Question Survey Data Proponents of lawyer dissatisfaction discredit the reliability of survey data in several ways. First, proponents look at the procedural and substantive defects inherent to survey testing. Second, proponents highlight related survey data such as the high levels of lawyer depression, alcoholism, and suicide rates, to name a few which are complimentary to the view that many lawyers are dissatisfied. Last, proponents and opponents alike, suggest that lawyers may be in denial or untruthful when responding to satisfaction surveys. Therefore, proponents of lawyer dissatisfaction argue that survey data is unreliable in measuring lawyer dissatisfaction. David Chambers, a law professor at the University of Michigan Law School, argues that procedural and substantive defects inherent to survey data make it an unreliable method for measuring lawyer dissatisfaction. First, most lawyers only place themselves above the midpoint on a satisfaction scale, which is barely more positive than negative. Second, surveys are conducted at a specific time and place, and therefore do not give a complete analysis of satisfaction. Last is the fact that many lawyers do not respond to surveys; and this is likely to be the most true among lawyers that are the least satisfied. As a result, the deference given to positive claims about lawyer satisfaction are not grounded in reliable evidence. Positive survey data on lawyer satisfaction cannot be reconciled with ... The Anglican Ascendancy meant that Ireland was governed indirectly from England. The Ascendancy angered the Catholics, limited their rights and made them pay taxes to the Protestant church. This led to dissatisfaction amongst Catholics culminating in the 1798 Rebellion. This was therefore a new way of addressing the Irish Question and gaining middle class support, which wouldn t want to support violent rebellion that might harm their property. The jaws were lined with 26 28 widely spaced teeth on each side, each more strongly serrated on the back edge than the front.[1][4] Velociraptor, like other dromaeosaurids, had a large manus ( hand ) with three strongly curved claws, which were similar in construction and flexibility to the wing bones of modern birds. The second digit was the longest of the three digits present, while the first was shortest. The structure of the carpal (wrist) bones prevented pronation of the wrist and forced the hands to be held with the palmar surface facing inwards (medially), not downwards.[5] The first digit of the foot, as in other theropods, was a small dewclaw. However, whereas most theropods had feet with three digits contacting the ground, dromaeosaurids like Velociraptor walked on only their third and fourth digits. Decision making is a critical responsibility in leadership and the ability to make the right decisions is imperative to the success of every organization. Over the years, various models and theories have been developed to explain how organizations make decisions. This paper shall consider a few of the models and explain how these models and theories apply in the context of the topic of this research. I. The Rational Model of Organizational Decision Making This model is based on the logic of optimal choice: the choice that would maximize value for the organization. The manager is assumed to be an objective, totally informed person who would select the most efficient alternative, maximizing whatever amount and type of output s/he values. We can summarize the rational choice process as follows: 1. An individual is confronted with a number of known alternative courses of action. 2. Each alternative bears a set of possible consequences. These consequences are known and are quantifiable. 3. The individual has a system of preferences or utilities that permits him or her to rank the consequences and choose an alternative. There is ...
