Adolphe Quetelet, Johann Herder, And Alexis Tocqueville
In search for the perfect man, could it be we tend to find the average man? Throughout history there
has been many philosophers such as Adolphe Quetelet, Johann Herder, and Alexis Tocqueville, all of
which worked on theories and done research on man in society. Although their work has had
differences, there has been similarities that connect all three of these philosophers ideas together. As a
brief background, Herder expressed the history of man throughout his work. This history of man
portrayed survival tactics, emotional responses, human nature, and the consequences faced by man.
Tocqueville s work consists of the Democracy in America and the ultimate goal of an Indefinite
Perfectibility of Man, the idea of equality among all, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This allows us to comprehend how the gifts from nature were meant to be interpreted as well as how a
man forms to society and matures throughout the years of life. We can also see similarities in the work
of Quetelet and Tocqueville, in this quote by Herder. Tocqueville s work suggests an indefinite
perfectibility of man, which could also be interpreted in Herder s work. If nature was created not only
to satisfy man but also protect mankind from warfare, therefore it could be assumed that the
perfectibility of man, has already been achieved since the beginning of time. Every man is born into
nature, creating an equal opportunity for all, indirectly implying there s a natural tendency for equality
among all men regardless of race. This is where controversy occurs between Herder s work and
Tocqueville s, Herder believes that perfectibility of man has already occurred through nature s gift, but
Tocqueville believes there s racism, inequality, and an abundance of power among government, thus
preventing society from obtaining the ultimate goal of perfectibility of man. Although these two
concepts have created controversy, the similarities among the two are relevant. As stated, nature was
meant to create a perfect environment to sustain the needs of man, while maintaining conflicts and
preventing warfare, yet man is educated by man and

The Bible Is The Only Truth
I was raised in a Christian home and taught that the Bible is the only truth, The Word of God. I was
encouraged to not put my trust in men, because men will always make mistakes, but trust in God,
because he is perfect. I solemnly believed that in order to trust in God, I had to obey the Bible. When I
was 18 years old, I became a volunteer translator for a non denominational American religious
organization in Brazil. During that time, I visited hundreds of churches in many Brazilian states.
American missionaries founded most of the churches in Brazil. During my first training, I was
directed not to translate or mention anything about controversial issues, because it could cause conflict
with the denomination s teachings. Over the years I started to question: why are there so many
denominations? Why are all these churches following the same Bible but cannot agree with each
other? Why are there so many divisions when the Bible teaches unity?
Christians follow the Bible. Christianity is the most popular, and the most followed religion in the
world as it is practiced by at least 33.39% of the world s population (Central Intelligence Agency).
The Bible is a collection of texts considered sacred in Judaism and Christianity (Riches). It has
influenced world history, arts, literature, politics, science, education, morality, laws, constitutions, and
even the calendar. The Bible is the bestselling non fiction book of all times, translated into 349

Strategic Planning of Marks and Spencers
Each organization requires different strategic planning, as there is no single strategic planning model
that suits all organizations. Every organization has to develop model of strategic planning according to
its own development, its nature of business and as per their own planning process. These models
provide an extent of options on the basis of which different organizations might be able to select an
approach and initiate to grow their own strategic planning process. Any organization might select to
combine the models suitable to their planning process, for example, they can use a Basic model to
recognize strategic issues and aims, and then they can select an issues based model to develop
approach to initiate the issues and grasp the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Strategic planning clearly defines organisations objectives and assesses both the internal and external
situation to formulate strategy, implement the strategy, evaluate the progress, and make adjustments as
necessary to stay on track (Bradford et al, 2008). According to Robbins and Coulter (2005), the
strategic management process model is given below:

Step 1: Define and Review Mission
Every organisation requires a mission. The mission is reason for an organization for being in the
business. By defining the organization s mission, forces managers to carefully identify the scope of its
products or services (Robbins and Coulter, 2005). M S has defined their mission as, To make
aspirational quality accessible to all (M S, 2009). Marks and Spencer s have been known for their

Residential Building Sector
The residential building sector is one of the major energy consumers in North America. It accounts for
17% of energy used in Canada, resulting in 70 megatons (Mt) of annual greenhouse gas (GHG)
emissions (Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC) 2008). According to Natural
Resources Canada (NRCan 2010a), 65% of residential energy consumption is attributed to space
heating by means of the primary fuel types, natural gas and electricity (Statistics Canada 2007).
Due to the importance of reducing energy consumption from limited energy sources and minimizing
environmental impacts, a number of energy efficiency measures have emerged for Canadian
residential buildings in recent years. Provincial and national building energy codes have been ... Show

In this regard, Hamelin and Zmeureanu (2014) conducted a lifecycle cost analysis (LCCA) in a single
family home in Québec; they presented the optimum thermal resistance value of building envelope
that achieved the minimum lifecycle cost. The insulation level of recommended design in their study
was much higher than code requirements. This is due to the fact that the lifespan of an actual house is
quite long, which provides a substantial energy savings from better insulation and would have offset
the additional initial cost in this case.
Given that cost is an important consideration in construction, this thesis aims to identify energy
efficient code compliant solutions for cold climates from a cost efficiency point of view.
1.1 Energy Consumption in Canadian Residential Sector
According to NRCan (2010c), there are four types of dwellings in Canada: single detached home
(56%), apartment (31%), single attached home (11%), and mobile home (2%). Figure 1 1 illustrates
that residential buildings are the third largest energy users in Canada after the industrial and
transportation sectors, and that the residential sector is also responsible for 17% of the total consumed
energy (NRCan 2008b). Figure 1 1: Breakdown of Energy use by sector in Canada (NRCan

Military Physical Therapy
The article that I have found on the Ball States database was about Physical Therapist sending videos

combat but in the military you cannot just go home and get better you still have to be on duty but won

needs to, so they send videos to the military for them to use instead of showing up to an office. When

Williston Basin Report
Introduction to the Williston Basin
The Williston Basin is an intracratonic sedimentary basin that occupies the majority of North and
South Dakota, as well as, parts of Wyoming and Montana. The basin also stretches in parts of Canada,
but this report will be focused on the United States portion of the basin. This portion of the basin is
generally flat with average elevations ranging from 1500 feet to 3000 feet. Precipitation in the basin
area ranges from 15 inches to 20 inches per year. The temperature averages approximately 65 70
degrees during the summer months, and 10 20 degrees in the winter.
Deposition of sediments began in the basin during the Cambrian era, but subsidence and basin filling
occurred the most during the Ordovician, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The formation is located in western North Dakota, southern Saskatchewan, northeastern Montana, and
southwestern Manitoba, and has a depth of approximately 130 feet to 12,000 feet deep. The upper and
lower Bakken shale layers contain large amounts of organic rich black mudstone. During the Lower
Bakken Member deposition, an increase in the rate of siliciclastic sedimentation (quartz and
orthoclase feldspar) caused more organic material to be preserved in bottom sediments. During Upper
Bakken Member deposition, an increase in biological productivity in the water column resulted in
more organic carbon reaching the bottom where it was subsequently preserved (Bustin Smith, 1995).
The middle layer is made up of mostly mudstone and sandstone. This layer can be tapped by both

The Inaccurate Western Civilization In The 16th Century
In the 16th to mid 20th century, Western powers and knowledge have dominated other countries, due
to the Western superiority to the other cultures in terms of civilization. According to Said, having
knowledge is to dominate it; having authority is to deny autonomy to the Oriental country. Evidently,
the inaccurate Western cultural perception towards Eastern world has resulted in the practice of power
over, what they presumed, the weaker countries. Java was once an influential Hindu Buddhist empire
and yet, it became one of the victims under colonial rule. In the beginning of colonization in 16th
century, Dutch colonies derived their architectural knowledge from their home country and replicated
in Java. However, in the mid of 18th century,

The Consequences And Effects Of Safe Driving Saves Lives

Safe Driving Saves Lives
Safe driving seems to be very hard for us now. There so many accidents now due to the lack of us
being careful and not following the rules. We may think what we are doing isn t bad, or we haven t
been caught yet, so we must be good at it. The reality is that we need to think twice about these things
before something happens that can change our life or the life of someone else entirely. We may think
we can control the situation, but in reality, things can happen so fast that we wouldn t even be able to
react to them. The main reasons that cause fatalities and crashes are, driving under the influence,
speeding, texting while driving, and not wearing a seatbelt while driving. It doesn t matter how long
we have done it or if we haven t been caught, when it does happen it can be a very bad outcome and
can happen in a split second. I personally feel that these things have really become a major factor and
find it incumbent that something should be done to stop them from happening.
An article I read titled, Can Automation and Tougher Laws Save Lives? by Ellen Kennerly talks about
some of the causes of fatalities and crashes we tend to have so much of now. Kennerly states, Nearly
half of the 2015 fatalities involved an unbelted passenger or driver and about one third were alcohol
related. Wow, that is a big number. This quote clearly shows us that wearing our seatbelt can save us

Theories Of The Common Sense
Questioning whether or not people make choices seems to be an arbitrary concept to ponder. Common
sense causes one to believe that, of course, humans make choices daily. Even now, common sense
dictates that it is a choice to read this paper or even for this paper to be written at all. However,
according to one form of early philosophy, common sense has led society astray. Each event that
occurs throughout the universe has causation such that one never acts of his or her own free will. This
theory of the absence of free will, known as hard determinism, has three main premises as its basis.
The first premise states that no event is uncaused (Kleinman 64). This appeals to humanity s
practicality; for every force, there is an equal and opposite force. One reaps what he or she sows. What
goes around, comes around. This form of logic demonstrated in the first premise satisfies society s
intrinsic desire for predictability and reason. The second premise then states that if an event is caused,
it must occur; likewise, if it must occur, no other outcome could be achieved. Thus, if every event s
outcome is predetermined through causation, no man can act against it; this tenet makes up the third
and final premise (Kleinman 64). Therefore, based upon these three premises, no man holds the power
of free will. As can be imagined, hard determinism appears to have a few holes in its validity as a
theory. A person, for instance, consciously makes choices each day, such as choices of diet

Comparing The Handmaid s Tale With The English Patient
Ze Qin Qiu Contemporary Literature Essay 1 Comparison of The Handmaid s Tale with The English
Patient The Handmaid s Tale by Margaret Atwood and The English Patient by Michael Ondaatje can
be considered as two works that reflect the change in writing style common of more modern literature.
As opposed to their older counter parts, these works of contemporary literature seem to focus more on
the connections, especially that of love, that forms between the characters. In The English Patient,
everything from the flashbacks to the sudden change in narrator, serves to outline the connections
between the main characters in this story. Similarly in The Handmaid s tale, the flashbacks and inner
thoughts of the main protagonist, Offred, serves to demonstrate the connections that influenced her. In
both stories, regardless of the time and circumstances, the characters in the book were able to recall
connections that were formed and use them to reminisce about the past. It could be said that the two
books show humanity s ability to form meaningful connections that are able to surpass the limits of
time and space. The English Patient is one of the two such books examined in this paper that show s
humanity s ability to form connections that stay with us without regards to time and space. Set in a
villa in Italy during WWII, The English Patient focuses on the experiences of a group of people in the
midst of this war. One such set of character is the nurse Hana and her

Corrections And The Goals For The Future
On June 7, 2016, Steve Walters interviewed Jon Litscher Secretary of Wisconsin Department of
Correction on his return to corrections and the goals for the future. Litscher (2016) explained how
policies changed due to the ACT 10 law. The law prohibited the workers to bargain with their
employers on their wages and benefits (Patterson 2015). He verbalized that one of the goals for
corrections is to increase incentives such as benefits packages and pay increase for their workers. He
also shared that the goals for correction is to reintegrate the inmates back into society. The
stakeholders in this change include the union workers, families, inmates, and taxpayers.
I did not have much history on the topic of corrections and the goals for the future. However, I have
heard that some correctional officers felt that they were underpaid and with the shortages. These
shortages could contribute to situations that are more dangerous for the offeiceers. I have a friend who
works as a correctional officer and with these shortages, he has to work mandatory overtime or have to
stay if needed. He has mentioned how frustrating it could be when trying to make and keep plans with
his family. Litscher (2016) verbalized that corrections is going through a recruitment process and the
classes are getting bigger and with the competitive wages and benefit packages this shortage should
come to an end.
Nevertheless, I was unaware that the starting pay for a correctional officer is $16, but even with

If I focus on only one negative consequence of globalization then I will choose dish cable where you
can share entertain channels all over the world. Every country has their own culture and tradition. In
some countries some activities are acceptable but for others are prohibited. For example having boy
and girl friend is normal in western society but it is prohibited in Arab nations or Middle East or
Muslim Nations. Other example I can think of is that pre marital relationship which is normal in some
countries but it is prohibited in Arab nations or Muslim Nations. Why it is problematic? Because it
may create infected diseases around the world. For instances if people are open to have relationship
with multiple partner it will create sexual infected diseases. There are so many sexual disease because
of open relationship. Some are fatal infected disease such as HIV and AIDs. AIDS (Acquired Immune

The Lorax, And Moths Of The Lim Timberlost
It was once said, The clearest way into the Universe is through a forest wilderness. Throughout the
years many people have made changes to our universe by teaching up to value our environment.
Ecocriticism is using literature to teach us about environmental consequences and give us possible
solutions. The novels Silent Spring, by Rachel Carson, The Lorax, by Dr Seuss, and Moths of the
Limberlost, by Gene Stratton Porter, were all literary examples of ecocriticism and greatly influenced
their readers views on the environment.
When it jumped into the spotlight in the 1060 s, Silent Spring by Rachel Carson quickly put a new
view on the impact of humans on the environment. The author of Silent Spring use ecocriticism to
persuade people and to think about the environment differently. We can see that Rachel Carson s
views on the environment are found in the book and at one point, she says Only within the moment of

Problems Associated With Road Traffic Injuries
1.2. Problem Statement
In Makueni County a considerable burden of diseases is caused by injuries and other life threatening
emergencies. Over two hundred patients with road traffic injuries are received in the health facilities
for definitive treatment in a year as per the occurrence register at the County Ambulance Call Centre.
The accidents are mainly along the major roads such as Nairobi Mombasa highway, Makindu Wote
road and Wote Machakos roads. Although the patients who need emergency care are often handled by
the bystanders who come to their aid, some of the victims die on the scene of the accident while others
on transit to health facilities. Sometimes, the patients transferred to the health facilities cannot be
managed satisfactorily and about a quarter of them require secondary urgent transfer to other health
facilities either due lack of facilities or expertise. This often leads to a tremendous loss of time, waste
of resources, lack of effectiveness; hence aggravating the injuries sustained resulting to complications
or even death. The crash related complications often result to long hospital delays and hence exert
pressure on hospital facilities.
The research is therefore aimed at determining the status of pre hospital emergency care for persons
experiencing road traffic injuries and will in turn help to improve the quality of emergency medical
services, save life, avert disability and other complications resulting from these emergencies.

Contextual Theory Of Interethnic Communication Theory
The distinction of the differences or similarities between the communicator and conversational
partners can influence whether they chose to engage in association or dissociation. These
dissimilarities and resemblances help to shape our perceptions of each other. Through the analysis of
ethnic proximity, ethnic distance, shared goal structure, separate goal structure, and personal network
integration, the situation layer of Kim s Interethnic Theory will be explored.
A Contextual Theory of Interethnic Communication As conceptualized by Young Yun Kim, the
interethnic communication theory describes the multifaceted layers and factors in communication
event. Described as an open system, interethnic communication occurs between communicators and
their interactant(s) who possess characteristic similarities or differences in terms of their ethnic or
identity markers (Kim, 2005). There are four layers to her theory: behavior, communicator, situation,
and environment. All of these layers contribute to how the communicator and their interactant decides
to interact, whether it is associative or dissociative. This paper will focus on the situation layer.
Implanted between the environment and communicator layer, the situation layer represents the
interethnic encounter itself (Kim, 2005, p. 334). Essentially, it is describing the interaction between
the communicator and their conversational partner(s). In this context, the communication can take
form in many ways (e.g., verbal,

Tactical Leadership VS Organizational Leadership
There are certain things that you need to know as a leader, I will explain some of the differences facts

As an effective leader one has to be especially close to their subordinates in order to provide them
with the necessary purpose, direction and motivation to complete their assigned task. The tactical level
is usually found at the company or platoon level, this leader is always looking to accomplish the short
term goals in support of the long term mission. Tactical leaders must know how to solve problems
quickly and without hesitation, they have more direct influence over soldiers because they are in the
trenches with them. At this stage the leader has to council, correct and led their soldiers through the
direct approach of leadership.
Organization leadership This leadership style is where the leader actually has to plan and synchronize
training in order that the small units are able to produce the tactical into the operational action. At the
organization level a leader is not in a traditional leadership position when they are directly in charge of
soldiers. Leaders in this style are the one whom establish section that develop plans and create orders.
When a result is achieved at this level the entire team is responsibility for the outcome. Organizational
leaders make decision that affect the long term goal and helps plan the short term mission for their
subordinate units. The tactical and organization leadership styles have some very different level

Mirador Basin Economic Interaction
The economic interaction in the Mirador Basin during the Late Preclassic period was based and
centralized on agriculture, craft production and distribution of goods. The Preclassic Maya royal elites
of El Mirador controlled labor and obtained from farmers living in the suburbs in order to maintain
and sponsor large ceremonies in regional centers. The elites likely had tighter control over agricultural

Literature In Chinese Literature
Chinese literature in the first half of the century was characterized by modernization and
westernization. Most writers warned to separate from classical Chinese. This included writers such as
Zhang Ailing, Lu Xun, and Xiao Hong. Not only did their education have an impact on their
beginnings as a writer, but as we can see through their novels, their childhood also have an affect on
their writings. Zhang Ailing, also known by her name Eileen Chang, was born into a wealthy family,
but she had a troubled childhood. Her father was addicted to opium and she left with her mother to
France, and did not return to China until later on. Her experiences in China were not happy, and when
she left, she no longer gave her tales a happy ending. When she went back to Hong Kong and war had
broken out, girls were portrayed as caring more about themselves than the actual dangers of the war.
One girl, Ailing describes panicking because she did not have enough wardrobe suitable for the war.
But it was not only her, it was almost everyone who had a psychological response with some close
association with clothing. Ailing gives the example of Sureika, who came from a remote village on the
Malay peninsula. She was unlike any other girl at school, she chose medicine instead of the normal
education and was seen as naive. After they were instructed to hide, when a bomb had landed next to
their dorm, Sureika sorted out her brightest clothes and went to serve as a nurse for Red Cross. Her

Symbolism In Virginia Woolf s Rope
As mentioned above, Porter s writings were influenced and shaped by the literary works she read in
her childhood, in particular, her usage of symbolism is greatly due to the influence of Lauren Sterne,
Jane Austen, Billy Bronte, Virginia Woolf s habitual usage of symbolism. This element of writing is
widely seen in Rope , as Katherine Porter prominently uses several items as ways for manifesting the
themes laid deep in her mind. First of all, the rope itself might be seen as symbolic, because it is used
to tie things up,or bound people if considering the implementation of rope in the story. At the
beginning of the story, a quarrel sparks out due to the husband buying rope, and while it hasn t been
yet decided whether the rope is going to stay with them, the quarrel continues/goes on. This can be
interpreted as the rope being a tying force of the couple, an since the wife doesn t want the rope, there
is no way for them to bound or unite. However, at the moment the rope was been decided to be left
with them, harmony prevails and the couple is connected again. Thus, the retainment of rope results in
the couple s reunion, being symbolic of the rope tying people together. While the starting off
pessimistically, there is a scent of optimism by the end of the story. In addition to the rope, coffee can
also be considered as a symbolic item in Rope . Coffee can be seen as a representation of warmth and
affection in their relationship. The wife s drastic need for coffee can be

Allusions In The Tempest
Allusion Allusion is a brief and indirect reference to a person, place, thing or idea of historical,
cultural, literary or political significance. Often the reference is well known and can sometimes give
further insight on certain meanings and display greater context. Example 1: Marlowe s Doctor Faustus
Act III: Learnèd Faustus, to find the secrets of astronomy Graven in the book of Jove s high
firmament, Did mount him up to scale Olympus top, Jove s high firmament in this passage refers to
the vast stretches of the universe. Olympus top is an allusion to Greek Mythology where Mount
Olympus is the home of gods. Example 2: Milton s Paradise Lost , Book 6: All night the dread less

It is a metonymy because the word ears replaces the concept of attention. Example 2: Out, Out by
Robert Frost. As he swung toward them holding up the hand Half in appeal, but half as if to keep The
life from spilling In these lines, the expression The life from spilling is a metonymy that refers to
spilling of blood. It develops a link between life and blood. The loss of too much blood means loss of
life. Ode Ode is a literary technique that is lyrical in nature, but not very lengthy. You have often read
odes in which poets praise people, natural scenes, and abstract ideas. Example 1: Ode to the West
Wind by Percy Bysshe Shelley Scatter, as from an unextinguish d hearth Ashes and sparks, my words
among mankind! Be through my lips to unawaken d earth The trumpet of a prophecy! O Wind, If
Winter comes, can Spring be far behind? This presents an example of irregular ode that employs
neither three parts, nor four line stanzas like a Horatian ode. Nevertheless, each stanza of ode is
distinct from the other stanzas in rhyme scheme, pattern and length. Example 2: Ode to the

What Is Airport Security Setting
Vincent Cook How Airport Security is Constricting After 9/11 when the terrorist attacked us and took
over a couple of air airplanes, they started to go for our main government buildings. The president
started to get concerned about the people s safety in America. So they decide to heavy down on
Airport Security. I think they really don t give you any privacy. Paul, Rand has a story to tell about
when he went to the Airport and he had to go through the line. They asked him to step aside for a
moment and they wanted to full body search him, but they didn t care if he missed his flight or not.
Today [in January 2012], while en route to Washington to speak to hundreds of thousand of people at
the March for life, I was detained by the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) for not

A lot of people have had personal experiences on bombing and other related things going on in the
airport or on the planes. In the last two weeks, I have been through TSA screening eight times and not
once was I asked to go through the millimeter wave machine, or undergo an enhanced pat down. Odds
are that most of the 2.2 million passengers who will go through airport security each day during this
holiday weekend will have a similar experience. On the last leg of my trip, I finally asked to go
through both procedures to see what all the fuss was about. ( Personal Experience) He said no one
touched him in any type of way that he should have not have been. Everyone will never make up there
mind if they like it or not just because everyone has their own opinion about when they go through
airport security. But really if they go back to the old way of searching everyone we would have more
bomb threats. Manually because there is a lot of types to sneak in a bomb like shoe bombs, underwear
bombs and drink bombs. All TSA wants to do is protect our safety but also sometimes they step

Nfl Protest
As a son of immigrants, I admire the American flag because it represents strength and sacrifice from
brave people who died for standing up for what is right. People often make mistakes and misinterpret
certain situations. The protest made by NFL players aren t done in a form of disrespecting the US flag.
What is disrespectful is the reaction of President Trump s inappropriate response towards the NFL
players who kneeled calling them a son of a bitch. The way on how I view the situation is that the
NFL players in a respectful and peaceful manner are protesting against the social injustices that are
ignored in modern society. This form of protesting has never happened in sports, which is why I think
that people need to realize the seriousness of the situation. The players only want to make people
aware of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I feel that President Trump needs to reevaluate his ideas and compare those who want social change
because truly the protest has a deeper meaning that the President hasn t viewed. The only way for
change to occur is by uniting all communities, a reality that is being created by the NFL players to
promote equality. By acting and not going, hopefully, that will inspire some change when it comes to
what we tolerate in this country and what is accepted and what we turn a blind eye to, a quote from
Steph Curry which I agree that people can often disagree due to having a limited mind with certain
ideas that leads to false assumptions and judgements about others. Both authors from CNN and Fox
News remained impartial and reported about the same issue using multiple sources from social media
mainly from players and the president s reactions but were also written the same day. However, both
sources reported the situation about Colin Kaepernick differently. The report from CNN stated that
Kaepernick initiated the protest that set the

Wild Swans Chapter Summary
Chang, Jung. Wild Swans: Three Daughters of China. New York: Simon Schuster, 1991. Throughout
the history of literature, many authors have revealed certain truths through their work. However, just
how much of the actual truth is revealed? Could there be more than just the truth laying beneath the
surface? These questions are often pondered upon by the reader, yet very few books are able reveal
truths that astounds the world. The book Wild Swans: Three Daughters of China written by Jung
Chang is a memoir in which China s true history in the twentieth century was disclosed. This book
records the story of three generations within Jung Chang s Family. Along the chronicles of the family,
Jung Chang reveals to the world how Communism greatly ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

It revealed to the world what was not known. Many people know little about how the Chinese actually
lived under the reign of Mao and this book provides the knowledge, This book is a factual memoir in
which incorporates the hidden history of China. Before the reading of the book, many would not have
thought of Mao as a tyrant. Particularly the natives of China are informed little about the negative
aspects of Mao. Even today, his picture still looks down on the Tiananmen Square in Beijing. This
book also interpreted in the changes of women s lives. Women were basically products of trade with
little to no rights back then, just like Yu Fan. She was offered to General Xue as a concubine for
fortune by her father and she had no rights to ask General Xue of his matters. Slowly it progressed to
where women could participate in government, just like De Hong who held provincial position. Wild
Swans is a book worth to be read. It may not be suited for all readers but it tells a story that all should
know. Jung Chang completely accomplished her purpose in writing the book. Many people now know
the actual life of Chinese and she is respected for writing the book. This book would be most suited
for one who is interested in world history. It would also be suited for one who enjoys reading
suspenseful and tragic pieces. However, one who has Chinese background would be able to
comprehend this book easiest. Many languages used in this book

Difference Between Private And Public Schools
Society was to be based on Egalitarianism (Shuker, 1987), but there is still a difference between
private public schools.
Two of top five reasons parents give for choosing a private school are :
 Small Class room Sizes
 More Individual attention (Kelly Scafidi, 2013).
 In 2012, Education Minister, Hekia Parata, decided to increase
 the class size as quality of teaching mattered more because teacher quality is far more cost effective
than reducing class
 size ( Editorial: Size Matters, 2012).
 As a result of this decision there will be an increase of up to five extra students in a class that has
upset parents, teachers and others in the education sector.
 Joelle Walker wrote if teachers are qualified and motivated to engage kids, class size does not
matter (Fuatai, 2012).
 according to Alexander Forgie these changes were positive because there would be a standard for
class size (Fuatai, 2012).
 Principals Federation president Paul Drummond argued and said that class size makes a big
difference. A smaller class teacher are able to deal with a more personalized program (Fuatai, 2012).
 NZEI president Ian Leckie said all parents knew that young children learn in a better way when
they had better one to one time with teachers. So how does a reduction in the number of and the
creation of bigger class sizes result in better outcomes?(Law, and Hartevelt, 2012).
Critics of the changes to class sizes point out the National led Government double standard

Metamorphosis By Franz Kafka Literary Analysis
In literature, the concepts of alienation and separation are employed to depict the necessity of personal
interaction and social mingling for all humans. In his Metamorphosis, Franz Kafka attempts to unearth
the plausible dangers of social rejection via Gregor s metamorphosis into a monstrous vermin, which
in turn eventually leads to his alienation from not only his family, but also his past life. Furthermore,
to depict the notion of alienation to his audience Kafka utilizes his vivid development of Gregor s
workaholic attitude, Gregor s transformation in to a massive bug, and the primary emotion of guilt,
which Gregor inadvertently faces due to his belief of sacrificing his life for the betterment of his
family. Therefore, Kafka exploits Gregor s alienation to depict his underlying theme of the novel
humans heavy dependence on society not only leads to the loss of their individuality, but also leads to
the loss of their humanity. Prior to Gregor s transformation, he seemed quite unhappy, concerning his
life, as he was alienated by the expectations that were weighed down on him by the society
particularly his family. Consequently, in order to fulfill his duty he alienates himself from his family
by spending a significant amount of time travelling, and this is evident when ... Show more content on

  • 2. Adolphe Quetelet, Johann Herder, And Alexis Tocqueville In search for the perfect man, could it be we tend to find the average man? Throughout history there has been many philosophers such as Adolphe Quetelet, Johann Herder, and Alexis Tocqueville, all of which worked on theories and done research on man in society. Although their work has had differences, there has been similarities that connect all three of these philosophers ideas together. As a brief background, Herder expressed the history of man throughout his work. This history of man portrayed survival tactics, emotional responses, human nature, and the consequences faced by man. Tocqueville s work consists of the Democracy in America and the ultimate goal of an Indefinite Perfectibility of Man, the idea of equality among all, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This allows us to comprehend how the gifts from nature were meant to be interpreted as well as how a man forms to society and matures throughout the years of life. We can also see similarities in the work of Quetelet and Tocqueville, in this quote by Herder. Tocqueville s work suggests an indefinite perfectibility of man, which could also be interpreted in Herder s work. If nature was created not only to satisfy man but also protect mankind from warfare, therefore it could be assumed that the perfectibility of man, has already been achieved since the beginning of time. Every man is born into nature, creating an equal opportunity for all, indirectly implying there s a natural tendency for equality among all men regardless of race. This is where controversy occurs between Herder s work and Tocqueville s, Herder believes that perfectibility of man has already occurred through nature s gift, but Tocqueville believes there s racism, inequality, and an abundance of power among government, thus preventing society from obtaining the ultimate goal of perfectibility of man. Although these two concepts have created controversy, the similarities among the two are relevant. As stated, nature was meant to create a perfect environment to sustain the needs of man, while maintaining conflicts and preventing warfare, yet man is educated by man and ... • 3. The Bible Is The Only Truth I was raised in a Christian home and taught that the Bible is the only truth, The Word of God. I was encouraged to not put my trust in men, because men will always make mistakes, but trust in God, because he is perfect. I solemnly believed that in order to trust in God, I had to obey the Bible. When I was 18 years old, I became a volunteer translator for a non denominational American religious organization in Brazil. During that time, I visited hundreds of churches in many Brazilian states. American missionaries founded most of the churches in Brazil. During my first training, I was directed not to translate or mention anything about controversial issues, because it could cause conflict with the denomination s teachings. Over the years I started to question: why are there so many denominations? Why are all these churches following the same Bible but cannot agree with each other? Why are there so many divisions when the Bible teaches unity? Christians follow the Bible. Christianity is the most popular, and the most followed religion in the world as it is practiced by at least 33.39% of the world s population (Central Intelligence Agency). The Bible is a collection of texts considered sacred in Judaism and Christianity (Riches). It has influenced world history, arts, literature, politics, science, education, morality, laws, constitutions, and even the calendar. It accounts for 17% of energy used in Canada, resulting in 70 megatons (Mt) of annual greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions (Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC) 2008). According to Natural Resources Canada (NRCan 2010a), 65% of residential energy consumption is attributed to space heating by means of the primary fuel types, natural gas and electricity (Statistics Canada 2007). Due to the importance of reducing energy consumption from limited energy sources and minimizing environmental impacts, a number of energy efficiency measures have emerged for Canadian residential buildings in recent years. In this regard, Hamelin and Zmeureanu (2014) conducted a lifecycle cost analysis (LCCA) in a single family home in Québec; they presented the optimum thermal resistance value of building envelope that achieved the minimum lifecycle cost. The insulation level of recommended design in their study was much higher than code requirements. This is due to the fact that the lifespan of an actual house is quite long, which provides a substantial energy savings from better insulation and would have offset the additional initial cost in this case. Given that cost is an important consideration in construction, this thesis aims to identify energy efficient code compliant solutions for cold climates from a cost efficiency point of view. 1.1 Energy Consumption in Canadian Residential Sector According to NRCan (2010c), there are four types of dwellings in Canada: single detached home (56%), apartment (31%), single attached home (11%), and mobile home (2%). The Inaccurate Western Civilization In The 16th Century In the 16th to mid 20th century, Western powers and knowledge have dominated other countries, due to the Western superiority to the other cultures in terms of civilization. Evidently, the inaccurate Western cultural perception towards Eastern world has resulted in the practice of power over, what they presumed, the weaker countries. • 9. The Consequences And Effects Of Safe Driving Saves Lives Muhammad Chechi Professor Binder Philosophy 12 30 November 2017 Safe Driving Saves Lives Safe driving seems to be very hard for us now. There so many accidents now due to the lack of us being careful and not following the rules. We may think what we are doing isn t bad, or we haven t been caught yet, so we must be good at it. The reality is that we need to think twice about these things before something happens that can change our life or the life of someone else entirely. We may think we can control the situation, but in reality, things can happen so fast that we wouldn t even be able to react to them. The main reasons that cause fatalities and crashes are, driving under the influence, speeding, texting while driving, and not wearing a seatbelt while driving. It doesn t matter how long we have done it or if we haven t been caught, when it does happen it can be a very bad outcome and can happen in a split second. I personally feel that these things have really become a major factor and find it incumbent that something should be done to stop them from happening. An article I read titled, Can Automation and Tougher Laws Save Lives? by Ellen Kennerly talks about some of the causes of fatalities and crashes we tend to have so much of now. Kennerly states, Nearly half of the 2015 fatalities involved an unbelted passenger or driver and about one third were alcohol related. Wow, that is a big number. This quote clearly shows us that wearing our seatbelt can save us from ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. Theories Of The Common Sense Questioning whether or not people make choices seems to be an arbitrary concept to ponder. Common sense causes one to believe that, of course, humans make choices daily. Even now, common sense dictates that it is a choice to read this paper or even for this paper to be written at all. However, according to one form of early philosophy, common sense has led society astray. Each event that occurs throughout the universe has causation such that one never acts of his or her own free will. This theory of the absence of free will, known as hard determinism, has three main premises as its basis. The first premise states that no event is uncaused (Kleinman 64). This appeals to humanity s practicality; for every force, there is an equal and opposite force. One reaps what he or she sows. What goes around, comes around. This form of logic demonstrated in the first premise satisfies society s intrinsic desire for predictability and reason. The second premise then states that if an event is caused, it must occur; likewise, if it must occur, no other outcome could be achieved. Thus, if every event s outcome is predetermined through causation, no man can act against it; this tenet makes up the third and final premise (Kleinman 64). Therefore, based upon these three premises, no man holds the power of free will. As can be imagined, hard determinism appears to have a few holes in its validity as a theory. A person, for instance, consciously makes choices each day, such as choices of diet ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 11. Comparing The Handmaid s Tale With The English Patient Ze Qin Qiu Contemporary Literature Essay 1 Comparison of The Handmaid s Tale with The English Patient The Handmaid s Tale by Margaret Atwood and The English Patient by Michael Ondaatje can be considered as two works that reflect the change in writing style common of more modern literature. As opposed to their older counter parts, these works of contemporary literature seem to focus more on the connections, especially that of love, that forms between the characters. In The English Patient, everything from the flashbacks to the sudden change in narrator, serves to outline the connections between the main characters in this story. Similarly in The Handmaid s tale, the flashbacks and inner thoughts of the main protagonist, Offred, serves to demonstrate the connections that influenced her. In both stories, regardless of the time and circumstances, the characters in the book were able to recall connections that were formed and use them to reminisce about the past. It could be said that the two books show humanity s ability to form meaningful connections that are able to surpass the limits of time and space. The English Patient is one of the two such books examined in this paper that show s humanity s ability to form connections that stay with us without regards to time and space. Set in a villa in Italy during WWII, The English Patient focuses on the experiences of a group of people in the midst of this war. One such set of character is the nurse Hana and her ... Corrections And The Goals For The Future On June 7, 2016, Steve Walters interviewed Jon Litscher Secretary of Wisconsin Department of Correction on his return to corrections and the goals for the future. Litscher (2016) explained how policies changed due to the ACT 10 law. The law prohibited the workers to bargain with their employers on their wages and benefits (Patterson 2015). He verbalized that one of the goals for corrections is to increase incentives such as benefits packages and pay increase for their workers. He also shared that the goals for correction is to reintegrate the inmates back into society. The stakeholders in this change include the union workers, families, inmates, and taxpayers. I did not have much history on the topic of corrections and the goals for the future. However, I have heard that some correctional officers felt that they were underpaid and with the shortages. These shortages could contribute to situations that are more dangerous for the offeiceers. I have a friend who works as a correctional officer and with these shortages, he has to work mandatory overtime or have to stay if needed. He has mentioned how frustrating it could be when trying to make and keep plans with his family. Litscher (2016) verbalized that corrections is going through a recruitment process and the classes are getting bigger and with the competitive wages and benefit packages this shortage should come to an end. Every country has their own culture and tradition. In some countries some activities are acceptable but for others are prohibited. For example having boy and girl friend is normal in western society but it is prohibited in Arab nations or Middle East or Muslim Nations. Other example I can think of is that pre marital relationship which is normal in some countries but it is prohibited in Arab nations or Muslim Nations. Why it is problematic? Because it may create infected diseases around the world. For instances if people are open to have relationship with multiple partner it will create sexual infected diseases. There are so many sexual disease because of open relationship. Some are fatal infected disease such as HIV and AIDs. AIDS (Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome) is an incurable disease that destroys the patient s immune system. AIDS is caused by infection with HIV (Human Immunodeficiency Virus)HIV is transmitted through the exchange of bodily fluids. People can become infected by HIV through sexual contact I was reading an article from last class material where it says that rich people are the immune system of a person infected by HIV becomes weaker over time, and the person is less able to fight off infections; this process can take months or years. Throughout the years many people have made changes to our universe by teaching up to value our environment. Ecocriticism is using literature to teach us about environmental consequences and give us possible solutions. The novels Silent Spring, by Rachel Carson, The Lorax, by Dr Seuss, and Moths of the Limberlost, by Gene Stratton Porter, were all literary examples of ecocriticism and greatly influenced their readers views on the environment. When it jumped into the spotlight in the 1060 s, Silent Spring by Rachel Carson quickly put a new view on the impact of humans on the environment. The author of Silent Spring use ecocriticism to persuade people and to think about the environment differently. Although the patients who need emergency care are often handled by the bystanders who come to their aid, some of the victims die on the scene of the accident while others on transit to health facilities. Sometimes, the patients transferred to the health facilities cannot be managed satisfactorily and about a quarter of them require secondary urgent transfer to other health facilities either due lack of facilities or expertise. This often leads to a tremendous loss of time, waste of resources, lack of effectiveness; hence aggravating the injuries sustained resulting to complications or even death. The crash related complications often result to long hospital delays and hence exert pressure on hospital facilities. The research is therefore aimed at determining the status of pre hospital emergency care for persons experiencing road traffic injuries and will in turn help to improve the quality of emergency medical services, save life, avert disability and other complications resulting from these emergencies. 1.3. • 20. Contextual Theory Of Interethnic Communication Theory The distinction of the differences or similarities between the communicator and conversational partners can influence whether they chose to engage in association or dissociation. These dissimilarities and resemblances help to shape our perceptions of each other. Through the analysis of ethnic proximity, ethnic distance, shared goal structure, separate goal structure, and personal network integration, the situation layer of Kim s Interethnic Theory will be explored. A Contextual Theory of Interethnic Communication As conceptualized by Young Yun Kim, the interethnic communication theory describes the multifaceted layers and factors in communication event. Described as an open system, interethnic communication occurs between communicators and their interactant(s) who possess characteristic similarities or differences in terms of their ethnic or identity markers (Kim, 2005). There are four layers to her theory: behavior, communicator, situation, and environment. All of these layers contribute to how the communicator and their interactant decides to interact, whether it is associative or dissociative. This paper will focus on the situation layer. Implanted between the environment and communicator layer, the situation layer represents the interethnic encounter itself (Kim, 2005, p. 334). Essentially, it is describing the interaction between the communicator and their conversational partner(s). In this context, the communication can take form in many ways (e.g., verbal, ... The Preclassic Maya royal elites of El Mirador controlled labor and obtained from farmers living in the suburbs in order to maintain and sponsor large ceremonies in regional centers. • 24. Literature In Chinese Literature Chinese literature in the first half of the century was characterized by modernization and westernization. Most writers warned to separate from classical Chinese. This included writers such as Zhang Ailing, Lu Xun, and Xiao Hong. Not only did their education have an impact on their beginnings as a writer, but as we can see through their novels, their childhood also have an affect on their writings. Zhang Ailing, also known by her name Eileen Chang, was born into a wealthy family, but she had a troubled childhood. Her father was addicted to opium and she left with her mother to France, and did not return to China until later on. Her experiences in China were not happy, and when she left, she no longer gave her tales a happy ending. When she went back to Hong Kong and war had broken out, girls were portrayed as caring more about themselves than the actual dangers of the war. One girl, Ailing describes panicking because she did not have enough wardrobe suitable for the war. But it was not only her, it was almost everyone who had a psychological response with some close association with clothing. Ailing gives the example of Sureika, who came from a remote village on the Malay peninsula. She was unlike any other girl at school, she chose medicine instead of the normal education and was seen as naive. After they were instructed to hide, when a bomb had landed next to their dorm, Sureika sorted out her brightest clothes and went to serve as a nurse for Red Cross. Her bright ... • 25. Symbolism In Virginia Woolf s Rope As mentioned above, Porter s writings were influenced and shaped by the literary works she read in her childhood, in particular, her usage of symbolism is greatly due to the influence of Lauren Sterne, Jane Austen, Billy Bronte, Virginia Woolf s habitual usage of symbolism. This element of writing is widely seen in Rope , as Katherine Porter prominently uses several items as ways for manifesting the themes laid deep in her mind. First of all, the rope itself might be seen as symbolic, because it is used to tie things up,or bound people if considering the implementation of rope in the story. At the beginning of the story, a quarrel sparks out due to the husband buying rope, and while it hasn t been yet decided whether the rope is going to stay with them, the quarrel continues/goes on. This can be interpreted as the rope being a tying force of the couple, an since the wife doesn t want the rope, there is no way for them to bound or unite. However, at the moment the rope was been decided to be left with them, harmony prevails and the couple is connected again. Thus, the retainment of rope results in the couple s reunion, being symbolic of the rope tying people together. While the starting off pessimistically, there is a scent of optimism by the end of the story. In addition to the rope, coffee can also be considered as a symbolic item in Rope . Coffee can be seen as a representation of warmth and affection in their relationship. The wife s drastic need for coffee can be ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

People often make mistakes and misinterpret certain situations. The protest made by NFL players aren t done in a form of disrespecting the US flag. What is disrespectful is the reaction of President Trump s inappropriate response towards the NFL players who kneeled calling them a son of a bitch. The way on how I view the situation is that the NFL players in a respectful and peaceful manner are protesting against the social injustices that are ignored in modern society. • 30. Difference Between Private And Public Schools Society was to be based on Egalitarianism (Shuker, 1987), but there is still a difference between private public schools. Two of top five reasons parents give for choosing a private school are :  Small Class room Sizes  More Individual attention (Kelly Scafidi, 2013).  In 2012, Education Minister, Hekia Parata, decided to increase  the class size as quality of teaching mattered more because teacher quality is far more cost effective than reducing class  size ( Editorial: Size Matters, 2012).  As a result of this decision there will be an increase of up to five extra students in a class that has upset parents, teachers and others in the education sector.  Joelle Walker wrote if teachers are qualified and motivated to engage kids, class size does not matter (Fuatai, 2012).  according to Alexander Forgie these changes were positive because there would be a standard for class size (Fuatai, 2012).  Principals Federation president Paul Drummond argued and said that class size makes a big difference. A smaller class teacher are able to deal with a more personalized program (Fuatai, 2012).  NZEI president Ian Leckie said all parents knew that young children learn in a better way when they had better one to one time with teachers. So how does a reduction in the number of and the creation of bigger class sizes result in better outcomes?(Law, and Hartevelt, 2012). • 31. Metamorphosis By Franz Kafka Literary Analysis In literature, the concepts of alienation and separation are employed to depict the necessity of personal interaction and social mingling for all humans. In his Metamorphosis, Franz Kafka attempts to unearth the plausible dangers of social rejection via Gregor s metamorphosis into a monstrous vermin, which in turn eventually leads to his alienation from not only his family, but also his past life. Furthermore, to depict the notion of alienation to his audience Kafka utilizes his vivid development of Gregor s workaholic attitude, Gregor s transformation in to a massive bug, and the primary emotion of guilt, which Gregor inadvertently faces due to his belief of sacrificing his life for the betterment of his family. Therefore, Kafka exploits Gregor s alienation to depict his underlying theme of the novel humans heavy dependence on society not only leads to the loss of their individuality, but also leads to the loss of their humanity. Prior to Gregor s transformation, he seemed quite unhappy, concerning his life, as he was alienated by the expectations that were weighed down on him by the society particularly his family.
