Violence of Decolonization Essay
Violence of Decolonization
Frantz Fanon argues the decolonization must always be a violent phenomenon because resisting a
colonizing power using only politics will not work. Europeans justified colonization by treating it as
gods work. They believed that god wanted then to occupy all lands and spread the word of god to
savages of darker skin color. Fanon joined the Algerian Nationalist Movement when the Algeria was
being colonized be the French. Many examples of violence written of in The Wretched of the Earth
were taken from the struggle for independence in Algeria. Also the writing is sympathetic towards
colonized natives. Fanon claims decolonization causes violent actions from both settlers and natives
and creates intolerant ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Because politics seemed to be a dead end process, the natives felt that fighting was their only way to
regain independence.
Native revolts would rarely change anything politically; it gave individuals a temporary feeling that
they were not inferior to their oppressors by causing disorder (Fanon 94). When the settler s
dominance became imminent, Natives tended to struggle violently with themselves. The anger that
possessed for their oppressors was vented through crime and battles with other native tribes. Fanon
says that is was an excuse to ignore their oppressors, accept colonization of their land, and to allow
history to move on (Fanon 54).
European settlers had the idea that by some divine right, all land was created for them and the control
of the mother country. The land that that did not occupy would not prosper without their influence and
would go back to the middle ages (Fanon 51). The burden of God s good work entailed white men to
impose his European religion, medicines, and civilized practices onto natives that they believed to be
evil because of the plague and disease they carried. The natives were called savages or other primitive
nicknames because of their underdeveloped technology and weaponry compared to the settlers (Fanon
41). Settlers consider native s aggression as evil acts against god.
Natives see the settlers as the bringers of violence.

Brother Future The Movie
Brother Future the movie is a very empowering film that teaches you to cherish friendship and to
understand your culture. A guy by the name TJ was selling items to one of his boys from the street.
The police called them over to where they parked the cruiser. However Tj took off running. The police
started chasing him. While TJ was running crossed the street he got hit by a car. He later then woke up
in Charleston, South Carolina on the edge of a plantation in 1822. He was captured by horsemen
patrolmen and taken into town be sold off at an auction. At first he did not understand where he was
let alone what he was doing there; he then came to the conclusion that it was a dream, but later
realized that he wasn t dreaming. After many attempts

Operation Desert Storm Case Study
Near the end of the gulf war in 1991, Saddam Hussein was fighting a losing battle. Operation Desert
Storm, a joint effort to liberate Kuwait, was in it s final stretches. While retreating out of Kuwait, the
Iraqi troops set around 700 oil wells on fire as well as damaging another 100 that were left flowing oil.
Saddam targeted Kuwait s petroleum because he felt that Iraq bordered all of Kuwait and therefore
was entitled to its oil and could easily take control of it. Kuwait s petroleum industry also makes up
95% of Kuwait s export earnings which targets their biggest industry by far and weakened the country.
Fires started in February and burned until November while estimates state about 5 million barrels of
oil was spilled daily. The Republican

Watch House Shift
On the 16th of February 2018, I participated in the Walk in Their Shoes Program and completed a
watch house shift at the Moonee Ponds Police Station. I reported to Acting Sergeant Jessica
GRAHAM who was my supervisor for the shift and worked alongside Senior Constable Michael
BECKER. These members provided me with insight and information on what a typical watch house
shift would entail.
Similarities between the roles of a PSO and police member include; their strong focus towards safety,
demonstrating a high level of communication, building community engagement by establishing
rapport with people in culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds, deterring anti social
behaviour, dealing with people impaired by drugs and alcohol and responding to incidents and
emergencies.
Both roles are similar as they are constantly in the public eye and therefore, all members must share
the same principles to follow the core organisational values and ethics enshrined by Victoria Police.
During my watch house shift I was able to distinguish key differences between the two roles. I found
that a typical watch house shift ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Senior Constable BECKER explained the entire process that was required to complete the report. A
statement was obtained from the victim giving a description of the incident which included the
location where the assault occurred, approximate time, date and if the victim knew the offender. Photo
evidence of the victim s injuries and broken reading glasses were then taken to add exhibits of
evidence for the report. After all information was collected a LEDR MK2 crime report was then
completed including a detailed narrative of the assault. After experiencing this process, it became clear
of the minimal workload required with the PSO role and differences compared to the workload, duties
and expectations of a police

Bull Frog Research Paper
During my summer on August 23, 2015, my brother and I went to Kensington metro park to see if we
could catch a frog. At the park we found a pond full of frogs and we finally caught a frog called The
Bull frog, it had green and brown spots and a bright green upper lip and a creamy yellowish belly, it
was three to eight inches long. Bull frogs is mostly found statewide, but numbers have been reduced
locally due to overharvesting for frog legs. Now rare over much of state. The Bullfrog could be as the
size of a toad, but there is a big difference. Frogs have two bulging eyes
strong, long, webbed hind feet that are adapted for leaping and swimming, it has smooth or slimy skin,
frogs tend to lay eggs in clusters. Unlike Toads, Toads have stubby bodies with short hind legs, for ...

The chest cartilage of toads is different also. Toads tend to lay eggs in long chains. There are only two
native toads in Michigan, which are The Eastern American Toad and The Fowler s Toad, they are
mostly the same ,but different in shape and color. The Eastern toad is mostly brownish skin is very
warty. Short, but large and muscular hind legs allow it to move more easily through woodlands and
backyards. Throat and belly white speckled with black. Found common statewide. The Eastern
American Toad is similar to The American Toad, but throat and belly is usually plain colored and has
more warts, three or more in each dark spot on the back. Two to thirtytwo inches long. Found in
western and southern Lower Peninsula. Many of toads and frogs population has dropped over time
and the reason behind this is the Amphibian Decline. Many species have lost most of their population
for many reasons like climate change, small changes in temperature and moisture, changes in global
weather pattern and many trees getting cut down. People could change that in many ways, by keeping
the place clean, keeping factories away from nature, less cutting trees and treating nature in a better
way possible.

How To Write A Descriptive Essay About Hardball
After getting 27 straight outs today Randy Johnson becomes the oldest pitcher, at 40 years old, to ever
throw a perfect game. The Diamondbacks beat the Braves 2 0 tonight. He struck out 13 of the 27
batters and was only in one count that reached 3 balls. This perfect game comes as the 17th of all time.
Most 40 year old pitchers get worse as the game goes on but that was quite the opposite tonight for the
southpaw. Cy Young threw a perfect game in 1904 at the age of 37. He also held the record of being
the oldest to throw a perfect game until tonight. How ironic that Randy surpassed that and has 5 Cy
Young awards of his own. A game like this was pretty special Randy Johnson said. He went on to say
that perfect games do not happen often and he is honored to be able to throw one himself. This game
was also his second no hitter even though the first was nowhere close to perfect. In his first no hitter
he walked 6 ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Fittingly, that is what happened tonight. After pitching the perfect game Johnson threw his hands in
the air and was full of joy. Like most perfect games the catcher Robby Hammock came to the mound
the give The Big Unit a BIG hug. He threw the perfect game on the road at Turner Field. All 23,381
fans cheered him on at the end of the game for what great feat he had done. Anybody is capable of
doing anything on any given day, Johnson said. Even after throwing the whole game Johnson was still
throwing upper 90 s in the late innings of the game. It goes to show what incredible arm he has.
Johnson shut down the Braves offense all daw with his fastball and deceiving slider. The perfect game
tonight snaps a five game losing streak for the Diamondbacks. It is a great way to snap the losing
streak. Tonight was the first time in twenty five years that the Braves have been no hit. They had a
different infield than normal due to a couple injuries and had to make

The Ones Who Walk Away From Omelas By Ursula K. Le Guin
The short story The ones who walk away from Omelas , written by Ursula K. Le Guin is about an
extraordinary city whose people live their lives with content. However, the prosperity of this city is
paid for by the suffering of a child in a basement. I was disgusted by the dark secret the city of Omelas
held. A child that is neglected and isolated in a small broom closet is there because it s suffering is the
reason why all the people of Omelas are so happy. Everyone in Omelas knows about this child, they
learn about when they 8 12. Some even come to see the child and are shocked and horrified, they
know they can t help this if they wanted because if they did the whole city would be destroyed To

Monsanto Seed Police Report
I personally believe that the seed police was out to perform a job of protecting its patent laws. I do not
specifically think they were actively seeking to harass every farmer for the abuses and misuse of their
seed technology. As there were too many for them to keep tabs on. However some of their efforts
could be viewed and perceived as a bit harsh and over the top. Likewise, many saw Monsanto s efforts
of their seed police harassed the farmers by going to them to ensure that they did not violate the patent
of Monsanto products (Ferrell Hartline, 2014). Furthermore, they constantly harassed the farmers by
pulling up the farmers records. Many felt that the seed police utilized many unethical practices to get
the farmers to cooperate ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, the company can differentiate between a farmer who intentionally is aware and a farmer
who is unintentionally aware of their actions, simply from looking at their field. Furthermore,
Monsanto did not actively go out and seek farmers who illegally used their technology seed but
Monsanto gained insight about illegal use from other farmers who reported suspected abuse of the
seed technology by other growers. These farmers would utilize the toll free phone number to report
these incidents and then Monsanto seed police would investigate them. So overall, I do not believe
they wanted to intentionally go out and find problems, but only sought after issues that were noted.
Additionally, some believed that Monsanto did not enjoy seeing good people in bad situations or
circumstances. Most of the time Monsanto s seed police did not wear uniforms other than some basic
blue jeans and a polo and they simply worked as investigators and fact checkers (Freeman, 2008).
Essentially, the seed police only acted in a manner of examining, inspecting, and carrying out a formal
inquiry or investigation. They were only acting on concerns that affected unethical practices of their
patent laws for their

Mr Parson Mistakes
The clock ticked by quietly, as my 6th grade teacher Mr. Parson rapidly went around the classroom to
pass out the math tests. Sweat was dripping off my face and I could not stop fidgeting with my fingers.
Mr. Parson smiled as he came to give me my math test. I smiled at him nervously. I slowly looked at
my test score and grinned. Thankfully, I received an A on the test. (#15) Sometimes I was a little lazy

stated in the article, Siblings of Influence , that whatever older siblings do is what the younger siblings

The Novel The Handmaid Tale
Imagine knowing that a group of people are attempting to take full control of society and the way to
live life, but there is nothing that can be done to stop them from accomplishing it. That s exactly what
has been occurring to societies around the world for centuries: Hitler in Germany, Stalin in Russia,
and Idi Amin in Uganda, but still continues due to a leader or Regime s clever techniques to gradually
attain power in society without the acknowledgement of citizens. Similarly, in the dystopian novel The
Handmaids Tale, a staged terrorist attack kills the President, which leads to the government being
taken over by the Republic of Gilead, who ultimately transforms the state of Gilead into a women s
nightmare. The women in the novel are forced to be sex slaves in society, in order to produce babies
for the infertile men in the state of Gilead, where fertility rates are significantly low. However, the
Republic of Gilead forces citizens to follow their theocratic ideology through misleading the entire
population with their clever techniques to accomplish their goal of having full power and eventually
form a totalitarian society. Thus, in The Handmaids Tale, by Margaret Atwood, misinterpreted
references to the bible s scriptures and manipulative techniques are used by the Regime of Gilead to
form a totalitarian society. The Republic of Gilead uses misinterpreted references from the bible, in
order to support their misleading ideology and manipulate citizens to

California Fire Department
In 1970, the Chaparral Region of Southern California suffered immense devastation from wildfires
that burned for several days, burning more than half a million acres of land, destroying over 700
structures and killing 16 people. During the subsequent debriefing and critiques done by the two
primary agencies, Los Angeles County and Los Angeles City Fire Departments, four major obstacles
were identified. The two departments agreed that while there was cooperation between the
departments, the identified obstacles definitely impeded the efforts put forth to extinguish the fire.
Terminology between the departments was an initial obstacle that needed to be addressed. The critique
found that because each agency had a variety of terms for the same equipment, there was confusion
when requesting or identifying it. Due to the lack of distinct planning for the wild land fires, the
commanders did not have the ability to deploy the proper units when or where needed. Units were
incorrectly sent to areas, or mistakenly instructed to stand down or stay in quarters when not needed.
The inconsistency in response plans of the different agencies was also an obstacle worth discussing.
Again, each agency had there own ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Anthem Characters
Anthem In this paper, I will be talking about the book called Anthem. I will be talking about
characters such as protagonists and antagonists and how some characters impacted the story. I will talk
about the setting, conflicts, and plot of the story. I will also talk about literary devices such as point of
view, symbolism, mood, tone, and theme. In Anthem, there are a couple of characters and some are
only mentioned and some only have a few lines of dialogue. The protagonist of Anthem is Prometheus
or Equality 7 2521 and the antagonists are the Council of Scholars. The council of scholars would be
the antagonists because they told the society how to think and that made Prometheus think that he had
a curse and was committing a lot of sins and to atone for his sins he accepted the job as a street
sweeper with any complaint. Two characters that influenced the plot are Gaea and International 4
8818. Gaea or Liberty 5 3000 influences the plot by Prometheus noticing her and speaking to her
when they aren t supposed thus breaking a rule and later going to the Uncharted forest to find
Prometheus and live with him. International 4 8818 influenced the story by making Prometheus think
of him as his friend thus favoring him over other men which are against the rule and keeping quiet
about the tunnel that Prometheus and he found. These two characters made Prometheus break the rules
and was pushing him to have more a free will than the other men. Characters in this book

Treatments For Schizophrenia And Its Effects On Society
Treatments for Schizophrenia
M. Arah Enoh
Southwestern Oklahoma State University
Schizophrenia is a chronic, severe brain disorder which causes people to have odd thoughts, disturbed
emotions and motor abnormalities (Carpenter, 2015). It is usually followed by psychosis,
disconnecting from reality. People sometimes hear thoughts; some may think others are plotting
against them. Even though individuals with schizophrenia have split personalities, it does not mean
they are violent or dangerous. Schizophrenic people do not make sense when they speak.
Approximately 1 of every 100 people in the world suffers from schizophrenia during his or her
lifetime (Lindenmayer Khan, 2012). An estimated 24 million people worldwide are afflicted with this
disorder, 2.5 million people in the United States (NIMH, 2015). This disorder tends to affect people in
the lower levels of the social economical classes. It is called having a downward drift by which having
schizophrenia can cause someone to function poorly and go from a high to low social economical
level. People with schizophrenia often rely on families and their environments for help them daily

Daniel H. Pink s Theory
Regardless of where I go, that one urge to develop myself will always be there. Motivation for me has
been somewhat of a simple term until I discovered the different types. I feel as though I have a fair
amount of control regarding my future career because I can t take some classes just yet without getting
into other classes. I have not very much control over if the class gets full or is not a good time to take
or even require some prerequisites. The two motivations that have been discussed in the book Drive
by Daniel H. Pink, come from inside and outside. As I already know that some of our motivation is
going based off of our instincts as humans and other parts of motivation come from a reward or a
punishment, but there has been a third type discovered that has explained the reason for wanting to
grow as a person and it is known as motivation 3.0. I agree that motivation 1.0 and 2.0 are useful to an
extent because of my experience with both types working then at some point being limited or losing
motivation confirms it. Pink states that motivation 2.0 works but not that well and it is not something

Pink s theory of motivation 3.0 is extremely useful because it sheds light on the type of motivation
that seems to actually work so far. Motivation can come from various sources such as internally as
something we know or are born to do or externally whether it is something we learn or develop. I plan
to implement motivation 3.0 into my career field because it requires what motivation 3.0 has, I will
need to practice, work on getting better and work on things after work is over. The goal that I have set
for myself from what I ve noticed will get me to the spot that I want to be in one way or another.

The Test Of Emotional Intelligence Test
Reflection Paper
It is always an eye opener to learn something about yourself that you did not know. I found the results

think that we can look at someone and decide not only their mood but also if they are a good person or
not, but is that always the case? The second test was an emotional intelligence test. It evaluates such
things as self awareness, self management, social awareness, and relationship management. Through
taking both of these tests, it gives tools to better yourself.

The first category is self awareness. It is made up of three competencies; they are emotional self

need to work on recognizing how to read and understand my emotions. It also shows I may be

Communism s Effect on Technology
World War II began because of an invasion from Nazi Germany to Poland causing Britain to declare
war on Germany. During the fall of World War II and the beginning of the Cold War, space
exploration was at the top of America s to do list. America was not the only country interested in
gaining answers about the solar system and its planets. There were many times during the Cold War
where the Soviet Union would have dramatic increases in science and technology. The Union of
Soviet Socialist Republics also known and the Soviet Union or USSR was a nation located in Eastern
Europe and Northwestern Asia and its capital was Moscow. The competition between the United
States and the USSR to see who could explore space by using artificial satellites and manned
spacecraft began after the launch of the first Soviet satellite. Even though the society of America
wanted to pursue the competition, President Eisenhower, however, did not want increase tensions.

[unused38]on s Moral Sense, By Hutcheson And Shaftesbury
Hutcheson and Shaftesbury believed that human nature contained all it needed to make moral
decisions, along with inclinations to be moral. Moral sense is a kind of sense because, like external
senses, it is common to all mankind. It is independent of our will and its deliverances are not
conclusions mediated by premises. In particular it is not mediated by considerations of personal
advantage or harm. It is on account of this feature that we are able to admire actions that took place in
remote times and regions and even actions that are contrary to our own interests .
Moral philosophers say that the main contribution of Hutcheson to the concept of moral sense is that
he describes the working of moral sense. The process, Hutcheson described, ... Show more content on

Approbation of our own action is given when we are pleased with ourselves for doing the action
and/or pleased with our intentions for doing the action. Hutcheson puts it this way: Approbation of our
own action denotes, or is attended with, a pleasure in the contemplation of it, and in reflection upon
the affections which inclined us to it . Consider what happens when someone picks up and returns
something that another person drops. In response to the action, the person who picked up the dropped
item would have feelings of approbation toward his own action. This person would be happy with
what he did, especially after giving it some thought. Further, they would be pleased if their own
intentions were ones with which they could also be pleased. The intention could possibly be that they
just wanted to help this person; however, if the intention was to gain advantage with the other person,
then they would not be as pleased with themselves. Approbation of another s action is much the same
except that the observer is pleased to witness the action of the other person and feels affection toward
the agent of the action. Again Hutcheson writes: Approbation of the action of another has some little
pleasure in attending it in the observer, and raises love toward the agent, in whom the quality
approved is deemed to reside, and not in the observer, who has

age can almost be deadly. Sarah Dessen takes us on a journey from heart ache, to mourning, and then
to a self destructing relationship. Don t believe everything you see, it might come back to bite you in

Canada s Chinatown and the Critical Race Theory
China Town Today in Canada there are a lot ethnic groups clustered away in their own areas giving
rise to enclaves that are just growing. This segregation is taking away the entire idea of
multiculturalism and diversity and rather pushing towards oppression and racism in the country. The
Critical Race Theory basically states that the individuals are pushed around to change socially and
individually due to pressures from the society. (Solorzano and Barnal p 311) This theory is based on
the fact that race is merely a social construction and it goes on to affect other components throughout
the society. A Hanegy Lopen (2000) state that race of a country is typically determined by the
dominant group in that society. The dominant group will thus construct the social order and mould the
entire structure in a way that promotes in interest. (Henry 2010) This is the basis that further promotes
this paper. The Anglo Saxon or the white race is the predominant one in Canada. People who are not
white are usually inquired about where they are from because they definitely aren t Canadian.
Questions and perspectives like these thus depict racism for the minorities and thus cause them to
form segregated groups and in the society. Thus, it is quite clear that the segregated communities bring
about and further increase racism in Canada. Today, the word segregation harbors many negative
feelings and sentiments regardless of where a person in is. Segregation brings along with it acts of

Lincoln and His Generals by T. Harry Williams Essay
Lincoln and His Generals by T. Harry Williams
Harry T. Williams was born on May 19, 1909. When in college, he was encouraged by a professor to
study history. This professor s main interest was the Civil War era and had a great effect on Williams.
He attended Platteville State Teachers College (later Wisconsin State University at Platteville) where
he received a B.Ed in 1931. Williams continued education into graduate school was mainly due to the
lack of work during the Great Depression. He went on to earn a Ph.M. in 1932, and Ph.D. in 1937,
from the University of Wisconsin (Dawson 431).
Lincoln and His Generals was the breakthrough book for Williams who had only written one book
previously. This book provided him with many national ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When Lincoln interacted with Scott, he showed a deference for Scott s age and knowledge. Thus
allowing Scott to share his skills, this humility was shored by General McClellan. Lincoln later
changes his approach towards McClellan, trying to boost his confidence and courage. Williams
continually shows McClellan as an egotist, who eventually replaced Scott as General in chief.
McClellan is depicted as unsure, indecisive, self centered and fearful of declaring war. Lincoln
continually defends McClellan but is not afraid of tactfully sending criticism his way. One could
easily be lead to believe that Lincoln was more of a placator. Williams shows us that Lincoln never
hesitated in making difficult decisions based on results. Lincoln s people skills are easily ascertained
in Williams writings. Lincoln seems keen at applying pressure as well as giving his generals a free
hand when necessary.
Williams shows an interesting side of Lincoln s patience that wears thin when there are no early
victories and from the lack of aggressiveness on the Union side. Williams shows a gradual
transformation on Lincoln s selection process. Initially each general was selected on characteristics
such as battle experience and political backing. As the enemy holds out and there is inaction, Lincoln
starts to doubt the ability of his generals and starts to seek generals who can win without excuses.
Williams captures the pressures that are placed

History of Public Relations
THE ROLE OF PUBLIC RELATIONS IN HIGHER EDACATION INSTITUTIONS /
UNIVERSITIES IN GHANA. A CASE STUDY OF UNIVERSITY OF EDUCATION, WINNEBA.
1.0 WHAT IS PUBLIC RELATIONS
Public Relations (PR) results from a convicted and thoughtful communication process that recognizes
that favourable public opinion, attention and support is not achieved by accident. It recognizes a great
deal of hard work since success depends on ensuring that nothing happens by chance. This is probably
due to the inevitable growing complexity of the world and its communication channel and our
Ghanaian society in particular.
Every organization either provides a service or direct sales of products to its publics. This is regardless
of whether the organization is state ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is only by making people know and see concrete deeds that one can build a good public image.
The importance of Public Relations practice is underscored by the indispensability of communication
in any human setup. However, in spite of this importance in our side of the world Public Relation
practice has suffered certain abuses by those who profess to practice it as well as those who are
supposed to benefit from its practice. While management seems not to appreciate the importance and
its relevance, the numerous publics do not appear to understand it and the practitioners themselves
have for most part been woefully incapable of explaining to both management and the various publics
what the practice entails. In short the Public Relations profession, its aims and objectives, guiding
principles have largely not been understood and appreciated by the public.
2.0 HISTORY OF PUBLIC RELATIONS
In truly democratic society everything depends upon the consent of the public Thomas Jefferson.
Public Relations began when people started communicating and needed to motivate others. The idea
of public relations as a profession is relatively young. Public Relations is a twentieth (20th) century
phenomenon and Edward Bernays often accredited as the father of Public Relations. He played a
major role in defining the industry s philosophy and methods.
The history of Public Relations is mostly confined to the early half of the twentieth century; however
there is evidence of practices

Famous Authors
In today s world, many people are losing their sense of what a true, fine piece of literature really is. It
is rare to find someone who likes to read for their own pleasure. It is even rarer to find someone who
likes to read the classics, such as Shakespearean plays or a prose written by Edgar Allan Poe. Some of
the oldest tales have greatly influenced the world as we know it in many ways. A few famous people
in history who have made a positive impact on the world of literature are Aesop, Dante Alighieri, and
Charles Dickens. Some may say that Aesop is infamous for the life he led over 2000 years ago and
mostly for the hundreds of fables that have been attributed to his name since. It is said that he was

Dante s Inferno is one of the most detailed descriptions of Hell in writing. After surviving all nine
circles of Hell, Dante and his guide, Virgil, set off in pursuit of Purgatory. They make it through each
layer of Purgatory and are finally met by Beatrice, where she and Dante travel together through the
nine spheres of Paradise. With such in depth pieces of work, Dante has inspired and influenced many
poets, playwrights, and authors from past to present. The last of these great literary influences is
Charles Dickens. A man known for his many tales such as A Tale of Two Cities and Oliver Twist,
Dickens has inspired and influenced many writers. He was born on February 7, 1812 in Portsmouth,
Hampshire, England. Charles had an older brother Frances, known as Fanny, as well as younger
siblings Alfred Allen, Letitia Mary, Harriet, and Frederick William. He attended the school of William
Giles and was an avid reader of authors such as Henry Fielding, Daniel Defoe, and Oliver Goldsmith.
Dickens first book, a collection of stories titled Sketches by Boz was published in 1836. In that same
year he became the editor for Bentley s Miscellany. Most of his novels were first serialised in monthly
magazines starting with Oliver Twist between 1837 and 1839, which was followed by Nicholas
Nickleby, The Old Curiosity Shop, and Barnaby Rudge. Charles Dickens was considered to be a
spokesman for the poor, due to his depictions of the social classes and bringing much awareness

  • 2. Violence of Decolonization Essay Violence of Decolonization Frantz Fanon argues the decolonization must always be a violent phenomenon because resisting a colonizing power using only politics will not work. Europeans justified colonization by treating it as gods work. They believed that god wanted then to occupy all lands and spread the word of god to savages of darker skin color. Fanon joined the Algerian Nationalist Movement when the Algeria was being colonized be the French. Many examples of violence written of in The Wretched of the Earth were taken from the struggle for independence in Algeria. Also the writing is sympathetic towards colonized natives. Fanon claims decolonization causes violent actions from both settlers and natives and creates intolerant ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Because politics seemed to be a dead end process, the natives felt that fighting was their only way to regain independence. Native revolts would rarely change anything politically; it gave individuals a temporary feeling that they were not inferior to their oppressors by causing disorder (Fanon 94). When the settler s dominance became imminent, Natives tended to struggle violently with themselves. The anger that possessed for their oppressors was vented through crime and battles with other native tribes. Fanon says that is was an excuse to ignore their oppressors, accept colonization of their land, and to allow history to move on (Fanon 54). European settlers had the idea that by some divine right, all land was created for them and the control of the mother country. The land that that did not occupy would not prosper without their influence and would go back to the middle ages (Fanon 51). The burden of God s good work entailed white men to impose his European religion, medicines, and civilized practices onto natives that they believed to be evil because of the plague and disease they carried. The natives were called savages or other primitive nicknames because of their underdeveloped technology and weaponry compared to the settlers (Fanon 41). Settlers consider native s aggression as evil acts against god. Natives see the settlers as the bringers of violence. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 4. Operation Desert Storm Case Study Near the end of the gulf war in 1991, Saddam Hussein was fighting a losing battle. Operation Desert Storm, a joint effort to liberate Kuwait, was in it s final stretches. While retreating out of Kuwait, the Iraqi troops set around 700 oil wells on fire as well as damaging another 100 that were left flowing oil. Saddam targeted Kuwait s petroleum because he felt that Iraq bordered all of Kuwait and therefore was entitled to its oil and could easily take control of it. Kuwait s petroleum industry also makes up 95% of Kuwait s export earnings which targets their biggest industry by far and weakened the country. • 5. Watch House Shift On the 16th of February 2018, I participated in the Walk in Their Shoes Program and completed a watch house shift at the Moonee Ponds Police Station. I reported to Acting Sergeant Jessica GRAHAM who was my supervisor for the shift and worked alongside Senior Constable Michael BECKER. These members provided me with insight and information on what a typical watch house shift would entail. Similarities between the roles of a PSO and police member include; their strong focus towards safety, demonstrating a high level of communication, building community engagement by establishing rapport with people in culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds, deterring anti social behaviour, dealing with people impaired by drugs and alcohol and responding to incidents and emergencies. Both roles are similar as they are constantly in the public eye and therefore, all members must share the same principles to follow the core organisational values and ethics enshrined by Victoria Police. During my watch house shift I was able to distinguish key differences between the two roles. I found that a typical watch house shift ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Senior Constable BECKER explained the entire process that was required to complete the report. A statement was obtained from the victim giving a description of the incident which included the location where the assault occurred, approximate time, date and if the victim knew the offender. Photo evidence of the victim s injuries and broken reading glasses were then taken to add exhibits of evidence for the report. After all information was collected a LEDR MK2 crime report was then completed including a detailed narrative of the assault. After experiencing this process, it became clear of the minimal workload required with the PSO role and differences compared to the workload, duties and expectations of a police ... • 6. Bull Frog Research Paper During my summer on August 23, 2015, my brother and I went to Kensington metro park to see if we could catch a frog. At the park we found a pond full of frogs and we finally caught a frog called The Bull frog, it had green and brown spots and a bright green upper lip and a creamy yellowish belly, it was three to eight inches long. Bull frogs is mostly found statewide, but numbers have been reduced locally due to overharvesting for frog legs. Now rare over much of state. The Bullfrog could be as the size of a toad, but there is a big difference. Frogs have two bulging eyes strong, long, webbed hind feet that are adapted for leaping and swimming, it has smooth or slimy skin, frogs tend to lay eggs in clusters. There are only two native toads in Michigan, which are The Eastern American Toad and The Fowler s Toad, they are mostly the same ,but different in shape and color. The Eastern toad is mostly brownish skin is very warty. Short, but large and muscular hind legs allow it to move more easily through woodlands and backyards. Throat and belly white speckled with black. Found common statewide. The Eastern American Toad is similar to The American Toad, but throat and belly is usually plain colored and has more warts, three or more in each dark spot on the back. Two to thirtytwo inches long. Found in western and southern Lower Peninsula. Many of toads and frogs population has dropped over time and the reason behind this is the Amphibian Decline. Many species have lost most of their population for many reasons like climate change, small changes in temperature and moisture, changes in global weather pattern and many trees getting cut down. • 7. How To Write A Descriptive Essay About Hardball After getting 27 straight outs today Randy Johnson becomes the oldest pitcher, at 40 years old, to ever throw a perfect game. The Diamondbacks beat the Braves 2 0 tonight. He struck out 13 of the 27 batters and was only in one count that reached 3 balls. This perfect game comes as the 17th of all time. Most 40 year old pitchers get worse as the game goes on but that was quite the opposite tonight for the southpaw. Cy Young threw a perfect game in 1904 at the age of 37. He also held the record of being the oldest to throw a perfect game until tonight. How ironic that Randy surpassed that and has 5 Cy Young awards of his own. A game like this was pretty special Randy Johnson said. He went on to say that perfect games do not happen often and he is honored to be able to throw one himself. All 23,381 fans cheered him on at the end of the game for what great feat he had done. Anybody is capable of doing anything on any given day, Johnson said. Even after throwing the whole game Johnson was still throwing upper 90 s in the late innings of the game. It goes to show what incredible arm he has. Johnson shut down the Braves offense all daw with his fastball and deceiving slider. The perfect game tonight snaps a five game losing streak for the Diamondbacks. Le Guin is about an extraordinary city whose people live their lives with content. However, the prosperity of this city is paid for by the suffering of a child in a basement. I was disgusted by the dark secret the city of Omelas held. A child that is neglected and isolated in a small broom closet is there because it s suffering is the reason why all the people of Omelas are so happy. Everyone in Omelas knows about this child, they learn about when they 8 12. • 9. Monsanto Seed Police Report I personally believe that the seed police was out to perform a job of protecting its patent laws. I do not specifically think they were actively seeking to harass every farmer for the abuses and misuse of their seed technology. As there were too many for them to keep tabs on. However some of their efforts could be viewed and perceived as a bit harsh and over the top. Likewise, many saw Monsanto s efforts of their seed police harassed the farmers by going to them to ensure that they did not violate the patent of Monsanto products (Ferrell Hartline, 2014). Furthermore, they constantly harassed the farmers by pulling up the farmers records. Many felt that the seed police utilized many unethical practices to get the farmers to cooperate ... However, the company can differentiate between a farmer who intentionally is aware and a farmer who is unintentionally aware of their actions, simply from looking at their field. Furthermore, Monsanto did not actively go out and seek farmers who illegally used their technology seed but Monsanto gained insight about illegal use from other farmers who reported suspected abuse of the seed technology by other growers. These farmers would utilize the toll free phone number to report these incidents and then Monsanto seed police would investigate them. So overall, I do not believe they wanted to intentionally go out and find problems, but only sought after issues that were noted. Additionally, some believed that Monsanto did not enjoy seeing good people in bad situations or circumstances. Most of the time Monsanto s seed police did not wear uniforms other than some basic blue jeans and a polo and they simply worked as investigators and fact checkers (Freeman, 2008). Essentially, the seed police only acted in a manner of examining, inspecting, and carrying out a formal inquiry or investigation. • 11. The Novel The Handmaid Tale Imagine knowing that a group of people are attempting to take full control of society and the way to live life, but there is nothing that can be done to stop them from accomplishing it. That s exactly what has been occurring to societies around the world for centuries: Hitler in Germany, Stalin in Russia, and Idi Amin in Uganda, but still continues due to a leader or Regime s clever techniques to gradually attain power in society without the acknowledgement of citizens. Similarly, in the dystopian novel The Handmaids Tale, a staged terrorist attack kills the President, which leads to the government being taken over by the Republic of Gilead, who ultimately transforms the state of Gilead into a women s nightmare. The women in the novel are forced to be sex slaves in society, in order to produce babies for the infertile men in the state of Gilead, where fertility rates are significantly low. However, the Republic of Gilead forces citizens to follow their theocratic ideology through misleading the entire population with their clever techniques to accomplish their goal of having full power and eventually form a totalitarian society. • 12. California Fire Department In 1970, the Chaparral Region of Southern California suffered immense devastation from wildfires that burned for several days, burning more than half a million acres of land, destroying over 700 structures and killing 16 people. During the subsequent debriefing and critiques done by the two primary agencies, Los Angeles County and Los Angeles City Fire Departments, four major obstacles were identified. The two departments agreed that while there was cooperation between the departments, the identified obstacles definitely impeded the efforts put forth to extinguish the fire. Terminology between the departments was an initial obstacle that needed to be addressed. The critique found that because each agency had a variety of terms for the same equipment, there was confusion when requesting or identifying it. Due to the lack of distinct planning for the wild land fires, the commanders did not have the ability to deploy the proper units when or where needed. Units were incorrectly sent to areas, or mistakenly instructed to stand down or stay in quarters when not needed. • 13. Anthem Characters Anthem In this paper, I will be talking about the book called Anthem. I will be talking about characters such as protagonists and antagonists and how some characters impacted the story. I will talk about the setting, conflicts, and plot of the story. I will also talk about literary devices such as point of view, symbolism, mood, tone, and theme. In Anthem, there are a couple of characters and some are only mentioned and some only have a few lines of dialogue. The protagonist of Anthem is Prometheus or Equality 7 2521 and the antagonists are the Council of Scholars. The council of scholars would be the antagonists because they told the society how to think and that made Prometheus think that he had a curse and was committing a lot of sins and to atone for his sins he accepted the job as a street sweeper with any complaint. [unused38]on s Moral Sense, By Hutcheson And Shaftesbury Hutcheson and Shaftesbury believed that human nature contained all it needed to make moral decisions, along with inclinations to be moral. Moral sense is a kind of sense because, like external senses, it is common to all mankind. It is independent of our will and its deliverances are not conclusions mediated by premises. In particular it is not mediated by considerations of personal advantage or harm. It is on account of this feature that we are able to admire actions that took place in remote times and regions and even actions that are contrary to our own interests . Consider what happens when someone picks up and returns something that another person drops. In response to the action, the person who picked up the dropped item would have feelings of approbation toward his own action. This person would be happy with what he did, especially after giving it some thought. Further, they would be pleased if their own intentions were ones with which they could also be pleased. The intention could possibly be that they just wanted to help this person; however, if the intention was to gain advantage with the other person, then they would not be as pleased with themselves. Approbation of another s action is much the same except that the observer is pleased to witness the action of the other person and feels affection toward the agent of the action. This segregation is taking away the entire idea of multiculturalism and diversity and rather pushing towards oppression and racism in the country. The Critical Race Theory basically states that the individuals are pushed around to change socially and individually due to pressures from the society. (Solorzano and Barnal p 311) This theory is based on the fact that race is merely a social construction and it goes on to affect other components throughout the society. A Hanegy Lopen (2000) state that race of a country is typically determined by the dominant group in that society. The dominant group will thus construct the social order and mould the entire structure in a way that promotes in interest. (Henry 2010) This is the basis that further promotes this paper. The Anglo Saxon or the white race is the predominant one in Canada. People who are not white are usually inquired about where they are from because they definitely aren t Canadian. Questions and perspectives like these thus depict racism for the minorities and thus cause them to form segregated groups and in the society.
