Multiculturalism Has Had a Rough Start
Obama once said that a multicultural society shows strong economy and a strong country. But is it
true? What about those who cannot integrate? What about all those people who look down at the
immigrants and always blame them for the bad things there happening? And is it a strong society if it
cannot provide its citizens? In Denmark we are having a hard time accepting our immigrants. We
blame them for almost everything. But it is not our immigrants in general; it is primarily those from
the Middle East. If the immigrants come from Sweden, France, England and so on, we have no
problems with them. We do not blame them for those things there going bad, but why? Is it because of
the cultural differences, or is it just easier to blame the Arabs after 9/11? In the UK and the US they
have more success by integrating the immigrants, but they do as well experience the same problems
with the immigration of Arabs. I believe that it is a result of the huge media covering of the terror
situation in the world. And as long as the media are exhibiting people from the Middle East as
terrorists there will be a general negative opinion about the Arab people, and therefore the accepting of
the people from Arabian will be difficult. The problem with the immigrants is the missing integration
of them in the society. But the Danes cannot be blamed for this, because the immigrants are trans
national. What I mean by that is very simple: the immigrants care more for the countries they escaped

India Is A South Asian Country Where People Hold Various...
India is a South Asian country where people hold various castes and religions. After India gained
independence, the Constitution of India listed backward castes of the people as Scheduled Castes (SC)
and Scheduled Tribes (ST). The Constitution laid down 15% and 7.5% of vacancies to government
aided educational institutes and for jobs in the government/public sector, as reserved quota for the
Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribes candidates respectively for a period of five years, after which
the situation was to be reviewed. Reservation, in Indian law is a form of affirmative action whereby a
percentage of seats are reserved in the public sector units, union and state civil services, union and
state government departments and in all public and private educational institutions, except in the
religious or linguistic minority educational institutions, for the socially and educationally backward
communities and the Scheduled Castes and Tribes. The common refrain tends to be that less qualified
people from backward castes in the field of education and employment get preferential treatment
because of caste based reservations. My argument is that allocating reservation quotas on the basis of
castes is a form of discrimination which is contrary to the right to equality. Reservations on the basis
of caste should be reformed as these reservations create discrimination, and the people of the upper
castes who truly deserve the opportunity lose it because the reservation is already

Student Loan Vs. Private Loan
In order to get ahead in today s society people must take a risk. That risk may include taking out
student loans in order to acquire the necessary degree for their wanted job. For some taking out
student loans in the only way to achieve their goal of going to college. There are many different types
of student loans that a person could qualify for, for example, a federal loan or private loan. No matter
what type of loan is being offered before someone should accept any type of loan and the
responsibilities that come along with it they should consider the positives and negative repercussions
that could occur. Often times people hear many negative things about student loans but there are a few
positive things about them. A student loan allows someone to attend college and further their
education which gives them benefits that they will be able to use later in life. The main benefit and
reason individuals go to college is to reach the goal of a higher education, greater employment
opportunities and solid earnings and student loans make that possible (Venable 2). It could also be a
positive thing depending on the amount a person borrows and terms they agree to pay it back. Having
student loans that are possible to make regular payments on is an opportunity to increase a person s
credit score allowing better financial opportunities, for example, being able to acquire a car loan,
business loan, or mortgage (Venable 2). Debt that is manageable is good debt and as long as the

Summary Of Stuffed And Starved By Raj Patel
Reading Summary/Discussion Questions #4 This week we started reading a new book called Stuffed
Starved by Raj Patel and were to read the first three chapters. Patel is different in his writing compared
to Pollan because he is more emotional and forceful in his statements. He has worked for the World
Bank, WTO, and the UN, so his social position makes him someone others would want to listen to.
Unlike Pollan, Patel goes outside of the United States and takes a global perspective in his writing.
Patel talks in the preface about how many more people are undernourished and overweight and he
explains that the food system he describes in his book has been engineered to continue to increase
hunger and obesity. It is surprising to me to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Like consumers, farmers do not have much choice either. Farmers plant crops that are demanded by
the global food market. Essentially, farms are no longer owned by farmers and the farmers become the
laborers. Also, it sometimes is all or nothing for farmers. For one, some land can only be used for one
crop, for example coffee, and if something goes wrong with the crop, farmers lose everything. Second,
unskilled labor jobs are dwindling, so there might not be much else a farmer could do if something
were to happen to their land. It seems that when crops do well, farmers should be making a lot of
money, however, the food processors and distributors are the ones who make most of the profit.
Because of this, farmers are left with pennies compared to what the others make. Farmers and
consumers have fought to control the food system, but what other choice do they have than to support
it? The second section to be reviewed is chapter two. This chapter was devastating because it talked
about the poverty that farmers face and the suicides that result because of it. Farmers cannot bare to
see their families struggle or lose their farm that has been in the family for generations and, frequently,
they use highly toxic pesticides used on their farms to commit suicide. Not only do these happen in
poor developing countries, but also in wealthy, developed countries such as Australia and the United
States. After a farmer passes, the family is

Social Mobility In Mexico And The United States
Social Mobility is the ability of an individual s socioeconomic status to change from one ranking of
social class to another. Social mobility is different around and some countries have less chances of the
chances of social mobility than others due to many different economic and educational factors. Whilst
analyzing Mexico and the United States of America, both countries socioeconomic mobility is very
different. Economic factors piece an important role in producing or stopping social mobility.
Expansion of the economy creates increased upward mobility. Mexico s economic factors and other
types of cultural means makes it difficult for people in Mexico to climb the social ladder higher to
another class, thus explains and includes other studies ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Based on the historical trend of the 20th century an increase in economic earnings was observed from
the first generation to the second generations by 5 10 percent (Borjas, 2006). If the historical trend
proceeds to continue for the future, present day immigrants who face low wages will have children
that are second generation American labor workers in 2030 that could potentially face a wage
disadvantage of about 10 percent, but on average, the socioeconomic performance of offspring of
immigrants exceeds that of their parents. (Borjas, 2006). There is a larger variation in socioeconomic
status among ethnic groups in the first and second generations. Some national origin groups, typically
those originating in advanced economies, fare well in the U.S. labor market, but on the other than
other national origin groups, typically originating in poorer countries face much

Essay on Equality and Civil Rights
Democracy stresses the equality of all individuals and insists that all men are created equal.
Democracy does not persist on an equality of condition for all people or argue that all persons have a
right to an equal share of worldly goods. Rather, its concept of equality insists that all are entitled to
equality of opportunity and equality before the law. The democratic concept of equality holds that no
person should be held back for any such arbitrary reasons as those based on race, color, religion, or
gender. This concept of equality holds that each person must be free to develop himself or herself as
fully as he or she can or cares to and that each person should be treated as the equal of all other
persons by the law. We have come ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Equality and Civil Rights is complex in nature that the 14th Amendment (Equal Protection Clause) is
the closest approach to a literal statement of equality, it declares: No State shall deny to any person
within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws. The clause was originally intended to benefit
newly freed slaves. Over time, it has acquired a broader meaning. Today, it forbids states and their
local governments to draw unreasonable distinctions between classes of persons. The equal rights
amendment (ERA) was introduced in 1923. Their policy was for protection of women and based
largely on sexual stereotypes, which has been woven into the legal fabric of American life. This
protectionism has limited the freedom of women to compete with men socially and economically on
an equal footing. The movement to provide equal rights to women advanced a step with the passage of
the Equal Pay Act of 1963. That act required equal pay for men and women doing similar work. On
the other hand, to remove the restrictions of protectionism, women needed equal opportunity for
employment. They got it in the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and later the legislation. The commitment
that led to affirmative action programs expanded opportunities for women, minorities, and those who
are disabled.

The Legacy Of Nelson Mandela
For to be free is not merely to cast off one s chains, but to live in a way that respects and enhances the
freedom of others ( Nelson Mandela. History). Nelson Mandela, a anti apartheid activist, became one
of the world s most significant freedom fighter. His numerous acts and protests flooded South Africa
with immense pride and peace and therefore grew South Africa into a thriving, substantial economy
with minimal racial boundaries. Nelson Mandela was a prominent political leader who brought a
dynamic end to the apartheid struggle, fought for equal rights of all individuals, and became the nation
s first black South African leader. Though Mandela experienced a normal childhood, he soon felt the
hardships in a white dominated education system. Nelson Mandela, son of Henry Mandela, originated
from the Xhosa Tembu speaking people of South Africa. Due to his father s position, Mandela rejected
his claim to chieftainship and followed his dream to become a lawyer. ( Hero of ) When Mandela
attended a missionary school, he quickly noticed the domination of European culture when he closely
read the history books. He noticed that the book depicted whites as notorious heroes and blacks as
savage beasts. Trifled by his education, Mandela attended two years at Fort Hare College where he
obtained server punishment for trying to organize a student strike, which led to the downfall of his
successful college years ( Nelson Mandela. ). Mandela became a respectful leader of his Youth

Vapor Pressure Lab Report
Part A: Vapor Pressure of a Pure Liquid
For experiment 2, I worked with Amiel Angelo.
First, I began by calibrating the LabQuest2, while Amiel set up the glassware. Basically, I connected
my email to the LabQuest2 and proceeded by plugging in the temperature probe to CH:1 and the
pressure sensor into CH:2. Then, I went to the Screen shot 2014 01 15 at 10 page, where I changed the
x axis to Temperature and unselected CH1 Temperature from graph 2. Once that was completed, I
began by going to the Screen shot 2014 01 14 at 6 page, and changing the Mode to Selected Events . I
then changed the units of the pressure to mmHg by tapping on the CH2:Pressure and selecting Change
Units . Once that was done, I calibrated the pressure by tapping ... Show more content on

Then, I used the syringe to obtain approximately 3.0 mL of the Ethanol and followed up by placing the
syringe into the two way valve.
Before adding the ethanol into the Erlenmeyer Flask, I first recorded the pressure within the flask
without the presence of the ethanol. After that, I began by recording the temperature within the room.
Once that was done, I recorded these values into my ELN.
Once that was completed, I began by injecting the Ethanol into the flask by opening the 2 way valve
until it was vertical. Once the Ethanol was added into the flask, we immediately closed the 2 way
valve until it was horizontal. Once the valve was closed, we removed the syringed carefully from the 2
way valve, as removing the syringed without care may potentially result in gas leaks.
Now that the syringed was removed, we began our data collection by pressing Screen shot 2014 01 14

Cloud Computing And Its Benefits For Businesses
The term cloud computing gets tossed around in media and business settings, and while everyone
seems to know generally what it is, not everyone is aware of how to use it, much less how to
implement it in a safe way that still enables it to provide the full benefits of storing data in the cloud
versus storing and managing it on site. Cloud computing has many benefits for businesses, such as
allowing them to store information and be managed by an outside company, which eliminates the cost
and effort of a company having to buy servers, install and configure them, and then hire IT staff to
continue to maintain them. According to a study of over 1,300 U.S. and U.K. businesses, 88 percent
reported that they saved money using cloud services, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This further involves knowing exactly what options exist to host data. Cloud servers can be split into
public, private, and hybrid servers, all of which provide different benefits (businessnewsdaily.com).
Public Cloud Public cloud services are offered by companies that build external platforms that host
multiple users, meaning the infrastructure is shared by all the users. The benefits to this model are that
individual users don t have to worry about many of the details that would plague an in house server.
Public cloud services manage the site security, as well as content management tools. They also are
constantly updating, allowing for seamless transition between different and new technologies. Private
Cloud A private cloud refers to an in house cloud system that is set up and maintained by a companies
own IT staff. This provides a company with the flexibility to manage all of the details of their data
storage which they could not get with a publicly hosted cloud. On the downside, this is more
expensive to maintain and requires the cost of buying the physical infrastructure. Hybrid Cloud A
hybrid cloud system, as the name suggests, combines both the public and private cloud servers models
into one integrated system. For example, a company may choose to host some more sensitive types

Tariffs on Imports
In simplest terms, a tariff is a tax. It adds to the cost of imported goods and is one of several trade
policies that a country can enact. Tariffs are often created to protect infant industries and developing
economies, but are also used by more advanced economies with developed industries. Here are five of
the top reasons tariffs are used: Protecting Domestic Employment The levying of tariffs is often highly
politicized. The possibility of increased competition from imported goods can threaten domestic
industries. These domestic companies may fire workers or shift production abroad to cut costs, which
means higher unemployment and a less happy electorate. The unemployment argument often shifts to
domestic industries complaining ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The 15% is a price increase on the value of the automobile, so a $10,000 vehicle now costs $11,500 to
Japanese consumers. This price increase protects domestic producers from being undercut, but also
keeps prices artificially high for Japanese car shoppers. Non tariff barriers to trade include: Licenses A
license is granted to a business by the government, and allows the business to import a certain type of
good into the country. For example, there could be a restriction on imported cheese, and licenses
would be granted to certain companies allowing them to act as importers. This creates a restriction on
competition, and increases prices faced by consumers. Import Quotas An import quota is a restriction
placed on the amount of a particular good that can be imported. This sort of barrier is often associated
with the issuance of licenses. For example, a country may place a quota on the volume of imported
citrus fruit that is allowed. Voluntary Export Restraints (VER) This type of trade barrier is voluntary in
that it is created by the exporting country rather than the importing one. A voluntary export restraint is
usually levied at the behest of the importing country, and could be accompanied by a reciprocal VER.
For example, Brazil could place a VER on the exportation of sugar to Canada, based on a request by
Canada. Canada could then place a VER on the exportation of coal to Brazil. This increases the price
of both coal and sugar, but protects the

Isolating and identifying major motivating factors in the complex global landscape of the Cold War is,
without a doubt, difficult, but in the case of the Minuteman Missiles and the Amit Ballistic Missile
System, three factors can be identified. The major shift in Vietnam policy, a growth in counter culture
and willingness to protest, and the decreased influence of the Catholic Church in North Dakota over
the six year period between the installation of Minuteman Missiles and the installation of the Anti
Ballistic Missile all contributed to an increase in protest in 1970. The birth of civil defense in the
United States was slow, painful, and it almost ended before it began. The Office of Civil Defence was

countries. As a result of this evaluation, civil defense was deemed unnecessary, and the office was
slated to close just two years after its creation. The office clung to life for two additional years until it
was closed in 1945, and, with it, the idea of civil defense in the United States appeared to die. It was
not until 1950 that President Truman would breath new life into civil defense for the United States.
Truman created the Federal Civil Defence Administration with the purpose of minimising the effects
of a nuclear attack, dealing with the immediate effect of said attack, and aiding in the national

Greek Culture Influence
Greek Culture and Influence
The Ancient Greek Empire was an empire of great power and success. From the beginning of
democracy to the amazing architecture of the Parthenon, the Greeks had many achievements that
marked their place in history, as their technologies were very advanced for their time. Even today,
Ancient Greek culture and technological advancements continue to influence our lives in aspects of
government, philosophy, architecture, geometry, mythology, and sports.
Although democracy can be traced back to Ancient China and Mesopotamia, the modern form that we
follow today originated in Athens, Greece ( Democracy ). Democracy comes from the Greek word
demokratia , which means people power. At the time, when Athens was ruled under a tyrannical
dictatorship, a learned man named Cleisthenes spread the idea of people sharing power with the rulers,
across Athens. The idea ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

developed a voting system in which black and white pebbles were collected in a container. Black

would determine the action taken. The advantages of democracy are that the people have the power to
elect their rulers and representatives, who can then make wise decisions on their behalf. This promotes
political stability and the evolution of societies. Today, more than 120 countries around the world have
adopted democracy as their form of government.

Disadvantages Of Outsourcing In Healthcare
Outsourcing can be a means to perform the core functions of an organization effectively by having
more time focused on the activities critical to the delivery of services to customer. The non core

The advantages of outsourcing are:

Similarities Between Rainforest And The Coniferous Forest
The rainforest and the coniferous forest have several similarities and numerous differences. The
rainforest is home to millions of animal species and thousands of plant species, and the rainforest is a
biodiverse tropical environment with lots of precipitation. The coniferous forest is also home to
copious different species of animals and plants, and it is an environment that varies on the amount of
precipitation and goes through all the seasons throughout the year. The rainforest has more advantages
and diversity than the coniferous forest. The first kingdom of life is Animalia, which is home to
countless numbers of species that live in different forests and environments all around the world. The
rainforest is extremely diverse and is home to several of the most vicious animals in the world like the
jaguar, poison dart frog, and hundreds of poisonous snakes. Even though the rainforest has a majority
of vicious animals, it is also home to animals that have no threat to the world like the glass frog,
toucan, and the spider monkey. The size of the animals in the rainforest ranges from the size of a
gorilla to the size of an ant which makes the rainforest tremendously diverse. Similar to the rainforest,

Bulimia Nervosa Is An Eating Disorder Essay
Bulimia nervosa is an eating disorder that is most commonly found in women of teenage or young
adult age (Herzog, D. B. (1982). This disorder can have very serious effects on the body. Some of
these physical effects include dental problems, inflamed esophagus, EEG abnormalities, abdominal or
urinary disturbances, and changes in blood sugar level. (Muuss, R. E. (1986). ) The mental and
emotional tolls of this disorder can be equally as dangerous. According to Pompili, M., Girardi, P.,
Ruberto, A., Tatarelli, R. (2006) individuals with bulimia nervosa are at a higher risk for committing
suicide. To be diagnosed with Bulimia Nervosa, according to the DSM 5, a person must experience

behaviors often include vomiting, exercising excessively, depriving oneself of food, or using
medications inappropriately to achieve weight loss.

creation of God. Zoos have been invoking wonder for centuries. They started as menageries,

After all, every year, 175 million people visit American zoos, to learn about or see animals, according
to the Statistic Brain Research Institute ( Zoo Statistics , 1). This large amount of people visiting
means that zoos need a lot of people running them. There are many jobs provided by zoos. Zoo
directors, curators, zookeepers, and veterinarians are just a few of these ( Wildlife Careers ). All these
jobs help lower the unemployment rate, and help to create a stronger economy. Naturally, jobs help the
local economy. But zoos also influence the local economy in other ways. Zoos help boost the local
economy. A study by the Cincinnati Zoo revealed that visitors spent $23.2 million on off site spending
in Cincinnati ( Zoo Boosts Local Economy with Big Regional Impact ). Zoos bring in tourists, who
spend money on hotels, tour guides, public transportation, and in many more places. This extra profit
helps raise the standard of living, and, of course, boosts the economy. Humans benefit from zoo
revenue, but they aren t the only ones. Revenue generated by zoos help increase the zoo animal s
standard of life. Some zoos are updating their habitats, to make conditions better for the animals, such
as the Lied Jungle Exhibit at Omaha s Henry Doorly Zoo (Nichols and Tarpy, 9 14).Such operations
are extremely expensive. In order to pay for such things, they use the revenue generated from
customers of the zoos. Zoos not only use revenue to pay for the care of animals; they also use it to
help conserve endangered animals as

How Performance Management Is Important Challenges That...
Performance is about keeping public and nonprofit organization up to date, vibrant, and relevant to
society. It is about ensuring that agency programs and policies connect with the important challenges
that people, communities, and the nation face. (Berman, pg. 3) Managing this includes setting goals,
developing and training employees, as well as merging appraisal of performance and rewarding
performance into a single tool. The key to performance management is to ensure that the employee s
performance is helping meet and reach the goals set forth by the organization or company. If
management process are strategically planed, created, implemented and carried out in the proper
manner, great incremental changes can be made throughout an organization to increase growth of the
business. If employees do not perform or stakeholders are not happy, business can fail in many ways.
Gordmans in Okemos may not fail as a business just yet, but without evaluating their performance
thus far, it may lead them down a dark path if measures are not evaluated now.
A main reason performance management is needed in a store like this, is to establish goals and
organization within stores by making sure all employees are on the same page. With everyone
knowing the goals and mission of the company it helps establish a great attitude and relationship
amongst employee. As well as what is expected from them performance wise in order to meet those
goals. Appraisal performance would be the best tool in

Historical Capitalism And The Context Of Historical...
Over time, capitalism has become one of the most dynamic economic systems that have ever existed.
Not only has it been successful in bringing the entire world into a solitary framework, it has also
shifted the economic state, primarily focusing on maximizing profits for the owners. This is evident as
presented throughout Frederick Engels Theoretical. Engels peers deeper into the fundamental context
of capitalism; however, in order to do this, he must develop a better understanding of its
inconsistencies and how it has impact the overall development of the world. The notion of historical
materialism is addressed when further analyzing the overall context of capitalism. According to
Engels, he argues that historical materialism starts from the principle that production, and with
production the exchange of its products, is the basis of every social order... (Engels, 1959: 292). In
simpler terms, historical materialism is a system of production and exchange which have always been
the driving forces in social and political changes. It addresses that in every society, wealth is
distributed and divided into classes or orders dependent upon what is produced, how it is produced,
and how the products are exchanged (Engels, 1959: 292). However, Engels does not see historical
societal changes independent of the economic system corresponding to it. He believes that historical
materialism is not something that only concerns capitalism, it involves itself with all economic
systems, from

Lionel Richie And Irving Berlin
Lionel Richie has a discography of albums and singles second to none and is part of the fabric of
American pop music. In fact, Lionel Richie and Irving Berlin are the only two songwriters in history
to achieve the honor of having #1 records for nine consecutive years. The real story behind Lionel is
essentially the American dream. Lionel was born in Tuskegee Alabama. He lived in a small, isolated,
predominantly African American community in the original home of Booker T. Washington. His
family home is situated directly on the campus of what is now Tuskegee University and was
previously The Tuskegee Institute, home the of the Tuskegee Airmen. Lionel s grandmother, Adelaide

He knew, however, that this act was the beginning of his stardom. This small pack of girls would turn
into millions of screaming fans yelling not only his name, but also singing along with every one of his

CEO and Chairman and was huge by 1971. Skip Miller was the Vice President of Motown University
as Lionel jokingly calls it today. One night, Skip Miller walked into a club, saw The Commodores
perform on stage and realized these kids had talent. Lionel, along with the rest of the group, was
presented to Berry Gordy and given a record deal. This record label was prolific at the time because it
had the most respected R B and soul acts of the era including The Supremes, Marvin Gaye, Smoky
Robinson, Stevie Wonder, The Temptations, and The Jackson 5, who The Commodores would later
tour with. As the opening act for The Jackson 5, The Commodores began the start of their
international success. They released their first single, Machine Gun in 1974, which reached #7 on the
US R B charts. The Commodores would go on have more singles that topped the charts including
Brick House , Just To Be Close To You , Too Hot Ta Trot , Endless Love , just to list a few.

Why Should You Respect Your Respect
Introduction: Respect. What does it mean and who deserves your respect? Respect is generally
considered a positive feeling or an action shown towards someone or something considered important.
It is a sense of admiration for good or valuable qualities. It is also the process of honoring someone by
exhibiting consideration for their needs or feelings.
Some people think that showing respect is somehow degrading. They feel that it is the weak peoples
duty show respect to the mighty or powerful ones in our society. I think that this is a complete
misunderstanding. It is not a weakness to see the value in others. It shows immense strength and it
shows that you is secure enough on your own, to be able to look out into the world to see the value in
what s out there.
I want a society where we treat each other with more respect and where there is no need for hashtags

help, be nice to them, even if you are not interested of buying something in their shop for exemple.
They are trying to do their job. React if someone is treated badly. And please, do not film people

La Amistad movie is a movie from the year 1997 and it is directed by the famous director, Steven
Spielberg . This famous director has made a lot famous movies like for example the famous movie of
Jurassic Park or E.T . Amistad is the word for friendship in Spanish. In this movie four different
languages are spoken. English, Spanish, Portuguese and Mende. Mende is the language that the
African slaves speak in. This movie is a little recreation of a true story about slave revolt on a small
Spanish schooner in 1839. This revolt caused a series of trials beginning in the lower parts of
Connecticut. This case not only marks a milestone for Abolitionists in their fight against slavery but it
also questioned the natural laws of our Constitution. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The problem is that Theodore cannot speak Mende. SO he goes on a short journey to find someone
that can speak Mende. Then they find someone who has a African family and can speak both English
and Mende. SO then they hire him and they go to Cinque to interrogate him. They ask him all sorts of
questions. They ask him for example from where are you and your friends Cinque? It was very
difficult for them to extract all the information they could from him because of two reasons. The first
reason is because he did not want to reveal personal information about where they live because he was
afraid that the US army would go over there and kill all of his family and friends. And the last reason
why it took so long to extract information from him is because Cinque wasn t much of a talk guy. HE
did not really talk too much because he was very depressed that he wasn t at home. After a long time
of trying to extract information from him, they finally got know all they needed to know about Cinque
and his tribe. He and his tribe were from what it is now called today Sierra Leone. Sierra Leone is a

Cultural Policy in Taiwan Essay
Cultural Policy in Taiwan
Taiwan has its own very special government system. On the central government level (relevant to the
federal government), there are both president and premier in the system. The National Assembly is the
representation of all citizens to the president, and the Legislative Assembly is to the premier who is in
charge of the Executive Yuan, the top administrative body of Taiwan. The current National Assembly
is in charge of the change of constitution laws, while the Legislative Yuan makes all other laws.
The Council for Cultural Affairs reports directly to the Executive Yuan. It is one of the 17 Councils
that are under the governance the Executive Yuan, and it was founded on November 11, 1981. The

All these above mentioned functions of the Council were conducted with a single Council body and
decided by the chairperson and the Board. The Council is also asked to promote Taiwanese/Chinese
culture internationally, and set up cultural divisions overseas. Although Taiwan is not a very big place
geographically, it does have a large population (about 230 million people). Keeping all these functions
in one body is not very keeping all the functions working effectively. As we discussed in class, some
of the functions in the Council s guideline can be separated to be mandates for setting up separate
department in a government (of any level), such as heritage preservation, cultural administrative body
and a separate granting agency, such as in Canada, on the federal level of arts and culture, there are
Department of Canadian Heritage, Ministry of Canadian Heritage, and the a separate arts granting
body, the Canada Council for the Arts. The Taiwanese Council for Cultural Affairs is aware of this, so
the Council has been promised recently in the most recent national elections that it is going to evolve
into the Ministry of Culture under the Executive Yuan, and a separate arts granting agency, National
Culture and Arts Foundation, was established in January 1996.

The Techniques of Advertising Essay
The Techniques of Advertising
Advertisings are created to make us buy things. All the companies want to sell their products, because
they want to make profit. When a company knows that a product that it manufactures is not very good
they do not share that with their customers. On the contrary, they make a very impressive advertising
for the product, because all they want is to sell it. Everyone knows that advertising a product is not
really done because the product is just wonderful and everyone should know about it. Companies sure
do care about their customers and they want these customers to come back and buy more. They care

They say: better ingredients, better pizza, papa John s. First of all I don t understand what they meant
by saying better . Better than what? I assume that it is better than the pizza that I eat now. How do they
know it is better? Different people like different types of pizza; some people even like it when it is
homemade. I love the pizza that my grandmother prepares more than any other type of pizza I have
ever tasted. She has a little garden outside her house and she plants peppers and some tomatoes there.
No one can ever convince me that they have better ingredients and better pizza than my grandmother

hunger, the line pops up in our head Better ingredients, better pizza, Papa John s . We put our shoes on

that they sell the best pizza.
Another technique that advertisers use is the presence of role models. You see a person like Lebron
James advertising the soft drink Sprite. You may start thinking that since he is such a good basketball
player and he drinks Sprite then if you start drinking it may be you will look like him at least a little.

Characteristics Of The Spinner Dolphin
The Spinner dolphin is a dolphin that is found in offshore tropical waters around the world. It is
famous for its acrobatic displays in which it spins along its longitudinal axis as it leaps through the air.
That is where the name Spinner comes from. It is a family member of the Delphinidae of toothed
whales. There are 4 subspecies of the Spinner dolphin. But, the Gray s Spinner dolphin is most
common.
Spinner dolphins are nocturnal, which means they hunt during the night. They do that so they can rest
on a full stomach during the day. Also, they hunt during the night so they can get out of the scuba
divers way. They communicate by whistles and clicks. Using echolocation (calls out to the

Their head has a very narrow shape, even at the top of the melon. They also have 3 colors on their
body, the skin on the dorsal area has a grey color down to the sides where it has a sharp change in
color to a lighter grey. The lower part of the body is so white it looks pinkish. They measure between
1.29 and 2.35 meters in length and its weight range is between 23 and 79 kilograms. The name
Spinner comes from their above water actions. They can leap into the air and make as many seven
complete spins before diving back into the ocean. The power of the spin comes from the huge
acceleration under the water and the torque of the tail just as the dolphin breaks the surface. Female
spinner dolphins reach sexual maturity about 4 7 years, males about 7 10 years. Calves are nursed for
1 2 years. They approximately weigh around 130 to 170 lbs. Spinner dolphin inhabits most tropical
waters of the world, and can also occur in sub tropical and warm temperate waters. They are very
energetic in the ocean and out of the ocean. Head slaps acoustical messages that often are intended to

disturb the dolphins in the wild by causing disruption of their behavioral patterns of migration,

Hydrogen Isotopes And Radioactive Isotopes
Distinguish between stable and radioactive isotopes and describe the conditions under which a nucleus
is unstable.
An isotope refers to elements that have different mass numbers with the same number of protons and
similar chemical and physical properties but a greater number of neutrons for example carbon has 3
isotopes including carbon ((_6^12)C), carbon 13 ((_6^13)C) and carbon 14 ((_6^14)C).
The difference between stable and radioactive isotopes lies in their ability to emit radiation. That is
stable isotopes are unable to emit radiation whereas radioactive isotopes are capable of emitting
radiation such as Alpha particles α (helium nucleus), Beta β particles (fast moving electron) and
gamma γ particles (high energy electromagnetic rays). An Isotopes stability is dependent on it neutron
to proton ratio for example elements are generally stable if in the lighter elements (those with atomic
numbers less than 20) for example lithium, the neutron to proton ratio is 1:1 and in heavier elements
(those with atomic numbers from 79 83) are stable if the ratio is 1.5:1. Also any element with an
atomic number greater than 83 is naturally radioactive as they are composed of an unstable nucleus for
example promethium ((_61^145)Pm). An element may also be classified as unstable/radioactive if:
It has too many protons and neutron:
This results in the nucleus becoming too heavy and releasing alpha particles for example: cadmium
releases alpha particles and becomes palladium

Rock N Roll Impact On American Culture
It is well known that racism was very present in the early days of Rock n Roll, but its direct long term
effect on music is significant. The attitude surrounding black music as an industry would change after
slavery in segregated America. The very sounds being produced were heavily influenced by slave life.
Along with this, music gained a new level of personal emotion due to the catharsis of the oppressed.
Due to slavery, segregation, and racism in America during the early years of Rock n Roll, a large shift
in the culture of the music industry, musical structure, and content occured. America s attitude
regarding race alone created the culture of rebellion that we now associate with Rock n Roll.

During the birth of Rock n Roll, Patti Page s recording of How Much is that Doggie in the Window
became the number one song on two different charts in the 1950s, and was the societal standard for
acceptable music. In the midst of its large scale success, the only emotional tie of this song occurs
when Page refers to her supposed lover as her poor sweetheart. This detached and bland style of music
contrasts directly with the lyrics of artists such as Little Richard, who in his hit Tutti Frutti exclaims
that his girl named Daisy almost drives [him] crazy. Little Richard s lyrics would join artists like
Howlin Wolf in creating a counter culture of rebellious music. Even with racism raging across the
nation, white people could not help being intrigued by the blatant rebellion of these black artists. Had
there been no slavery or mistreatment to begin with, it is not unlikely that Howlin Wolf could have
been famous for a song as emotionless as How Much is that Doggie in the Window. Race and America

The Positive Side On Children s Disability Essay
An educator can also help by letting them know to focus on the positive side on their child s disability.
What can the parent and child do together that would be rewarding at the end. A child must have a
consistent learning experience. Educators and parents can work together to build a schedule that can
flow between home life and school life. It is important for a child to be treated consistently and an
educator can aid a parent in the methods used for education to ensure a similar learning experience at
home and at school. Consistency is important for a special needs child to succeed. Without
consistency, a special needs child can feel too overwhelmed and sometimes unwilling to work because
the task might be too hard for the child. Finally, it is very important for educators to prepare parents
beforehand. A parent who is not prepared might see something that appears far too complex to
understand, but with the proper training, they will be prepped on the concepts behind the teacher s
actions before an unconventional method was used. Why programs? There are many programs that
can provide parent training on their special need s child such as PACER and local centers like
Challenge Family Resource Center CFRC in Merced, Ca. These programs provide large amount of
resources. They usually have access to resource libraries and toy lending libraries. Often they have

Analysis Of The Film Waiting For Godot
Have you ever flipped an hourglass and watched the sand fall slowly to the other side? Think about
your life. From the moment you take your first breath, that hourglass is flipped and your life has
begun. The sand within the hourglass represents the amount of time one has on this Earth. Though
time is eternal, our time is limited, so we must make meaning of that time. There is an unknown
outside force in charge of each of our hourglasses, so do the decisions we make in life even matter, or
are we involved in a game of probability and chance? Through the characterization and setting of the
film, Waiting for Godot, it is evident that chance and probability is a major factor that dictates human
existence.
No one chooses a life of misery and wretchedness, but somehow there are plenty of people who are
starving, homeless, or even disheartened. Can we say these people were just dealt a bad hand? The
characters Vladimir and Estragon most definitely have been dealt a bad hand. Based on their outward
appearance it is apparent that they are suffering. From their dark gloomy aged attire to their untamed
wild hair, their appearance is similar to that of a homeless person; wandering aimlessly without
purpose. Aside from that they are starving. The only food they have is the carrot and the turnip
Vladimir has in his pocket. When Pozzo comes and discards his chicken, Estragon does not hesitate to
eat the bone. Not only are they starving physically, but also mentally. They are starving for

The military across the board has been making a transition in to peace time life. This is fairly difficult

percent of the Infantry in 2007 was composed of individuals that knew, or were asking to go to war.
With the tightening down on certain aspects of rather relaxed rules and regulations. From the time that
I had joined, many of our war hardened hero s found themselves in a predicament with having to leave
the military by force. Rules such as the tattoo policy which at one time was ok to have tattoos,
overnight Combat Veteran Marines were told to find work elsewhere. Knowing the reasons why I had

Chernobyl explosion. Many things and properties were destroyed because of this. People, animals, and

Ukraine was where the Chernobyl power plant was located so that was the area that was really

It wrecked over 63,000 square miles and was mostly located in rural areas. In Ukraine there were gas

Dopamine Receptors
INTRODUCTION
In neural signaling, axons transmit trains of action potentials from soma to dendrites, where synaptic
transmission takes place. Until a decade ago it was thought that axonal trunk doesn t play any
important role in neural communication except conducting spikes faithfully. However, it has become
clear that because of the existence of many voltage and ligand gated ion channels in the non synaptic
areas of axons, different neuromodulators, especially monoamines, may have some effects on the
excitability of axonal membrane via activating or deactivating these channels, and therefore, change
the shape or conduction velocity of spikes. Consequently, spikes arriving at the pre synaptic terminals
may not be exactly the same as those ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

modulate Na+ current, and then inhibit the spike initiation at the axon initial segment. (Cotel, Exley,
Cragg, Perrier, 2013) In addition, like dopamine, the axonal membrane excitability could be increased
by serotonin in the unmyelinated nerve fibers. (Lang, Moalem Taylor, Tracey, Bostock, Grafe,

Charlie Chaplin Research Paper
Imagine being a kid, losing your father to alcoholism, experiencing your own mother breaking down
on stage, and having to live place to place. Having been born to two troubled parents, Charlie Spencer
Chaplin started his career at a young age and built himself up. Starting his career in The Eight
Lancashire Lads, Chaplin was able to let his name be known to dignitary people. His enthusiasm to
rise up from the gutters amazes me, as not many can do as much as he did for himself. Charlie was
born on April 16, 1889 in London, England to Lily Harley, and Charles Chaplin Sr. His parents split
up when he was young, due to his mother s affair with Leo Dryden. Since the break off, Lily had a
breakdown on stage during one of her plays, her health was declining, thus resulting in hardships.

According to, (grab citation)is a 32 minute film is about a woman mistaking her husband for The
Tramp. Beginning at a rail way station, we learn that the wife and husband are waiting to board the
train; when the train leaves, the Tramp appears. Chaplin created this character while with Fred Karno,
during the film Kid Auto Races at Venice. The Idle Class mainly focuses on the humor of facial
resemblance and doppelgängers. After the completion of this movie, Chaplin decided to take a
vacation. When Chaplin was done with his vacation, he went onto produce 11 more movies until he
eventually ended his career with his only color movie. According to the Charlie Chaplin website, he
then created A Woman of Paris, The Gold Rush, The Circus, City Lights, Modern Times, The Great
Dictator, Monsieur Verdoux, Limelight, A King in New York, and A Countess from Hong Kong. Of
these movies, IMDb rates City Lights as number two. This collection of movies take place from

Populism In Latin America
Introduction.
In any social science, it is hard to find a concept that has a single, universally accepted definition. Any
scholar has a vision of what characteristics are inherent to this or that phenomenon. The concept of
populism is not an exception. It is one of the most difficult in this respect, as many researchers at
different times have used this term to refer to different phenomena: starting from the style of speech
and ending with a certain stage of development in the process of modernization of the state.
In my paper, the concept of populism is defined by Kurt Weyland as a specific political strategy when
the charismatic leader is directly appealing to the masses, populism is best defined as a political
strategy through which a personalistic leader seeks or exercises government power based on direct,
unmediated, uninstitutionalized support from large numbers of mostly unorganized followers . The
concept of populism as a political strategy is usually used in relation to Latin America. This continent
has a long history of populism, beginning with the 1930s 1960s, when the first wave of populist
regimes was formed (Lazaro Cárdenas in Mexico, Victor Raul Haya de la Torre in Peru, Getulio
Vargas in Brazil and Juan Peron in Argentina). Toward the end of XX beginning of XXI century the
emergence of new radical populist regimes occurred not only in Latin America but also in Eastern
Europe. However, the researchers did not rush to analyze the Eastern European regimes,

Twelfth Night Malvolio Essay
For this character sketch essay, I will be talking about Malvolio. Malvolio is a steward of Olivia s
household in the book, Twelfth Night. Malvolio is somewhat a middle aged man who is tall, skinny
and bald. Malvolio secretly has feelings for his lady Olivia but does not show it. Malvolio is a type of
man who follows the rules and will scold whoever breaks it. He is disliked by most characters for his
rude and strict behavior, which brings him trouble in the end.
In the book Twelfth Night, Shakespeare deepens our insight into Malvolio. Malvolio appears in 7 out
of the 18 scenes in the play. Shakespeare uses these scenes are opportunities to show Malvolio s
character and behavior. Shakespeare shows us that Malvolio is very loyal to Olivia. ... Show more

These kinds of images help me define the character. Puritans are kinds of people that no one in the
play, Twelfth Night, will like. This is evident in the quote, Marry, sir, sometimes he is a kind of puritan
, said by Maria in act II, scene III. This shows me that Malvolio cannot be friends much with anyone
with an appearance and behavior like a puritan. A steward is a person who is employed on a large
estate to oversee the other servants, manage domestic concerns and keep the accounts. This helps me
define that Malvolio has a big responsibility and position in Olivia s household. Another image that
would associate with Malvolio is a fool. This is evident because he falls for the love letter prank and
dresses like a fool in an indecent manner just to win Olivia s heart. He also falls for the trick when
Feste disguises as Sir Topas then back to Feste and Malvolio is unaware of that. The word somber also
associates with him because he is mostly grave throughout the play. He rarely smiles until he finds out
that Olivia loves him.
This is my character sketch of Malvolio and as you can see, he is very unique and nothing like the
other characters and has nothing in common with them. Although he is considered one of the bad guys
in the play, I feel like Malvolio is a man between good and bad. He tries to do what s right like
scolding Sir Toby for fooling around but he

Hate Speech And Free Speech In The Public
Universities all over the country have had some similar conflicts. No one really knows what needs to
happen to get them to end. These protesters have been violent and nonviolent. Nonviolent protesters
could be protected by their freedom of speech, but so could the violent ones. Knowing that violent
protesting needs to be put to an end, police officials are not really sure how they should go about it.
The protests at Universities have made heads turn, while government officials are contemplating on
what they should do to help keep the students and speakers safe. Hate speech and free speech have
some differences. According to the Merriam Webster Dictionary, hate speech is defined as a, speech
that is intended to insult, offend, or intimidate a person because of some trait (Merriam Webster
Dictionary). Freedom of speech is, the right to express information, ideas, and opinions free of
government restrictions (Merriam Webster Dictionary). These terms have parallel but contrasting
meanings. Everyone has their freedom of speech. Anyone can speak their opinions without worries.
Fighting words or hate speech is protected as long as there is no violence according to Kathleen Ann
Ruane, a Legislative Attorney. Different college universities are needing to lay out some regulations to
their protests so that they can have a safer environment. The University of California Berkeley had
some protests pertaining to Ben Shapiro, a speaker they had early in September. There were no

  • 2. Multiculturalism Has Had a Rough Start Obama once said that a multicultural society shows strong economy and a strong country. But is it true? What about those who cannot integrate? What about all those people who look down at the immigrants and always blame them for the bad things there happening? And is it a strong society if it cannot provide its citizens? In Denmark we are having a hard time accepting our immigrants. We blame them for almost everything. But it is not our immigrants in general; it is primarily those from the Middle East. If the immigrants come from Sweden, France, England and so on, we have no problems with them. We do not blame them for those things there going bad, but why? Is it because of the cultural differences, or is it just easier to blame the Arabs after 9/11? In the UK and the US they have more success by integrating the immigrants, but they do as well experience the same problems with the immigration of Arabs. I believe that it is a result of the huge media covering of the terror situation in the world. And as long as the media are exhibiting people from the Middle East as terrorists there will be a general negative opinion about the Arab people, and therefore the accepting of the people from Arabian will be difficult. The problem with the immigrants is the missing integration of them in the society. But the Danes cannot be blamed for this, because the immigrants are trans national. • 3. India Is A South Asian Country Where People Hold Various... India is a South Asian country where people hold various castes and religions. After India gained independence, the Constitution of India listed backward castes of the people as Scheduled Castes (SC) and Scheduled Tribes (ST). The Constitution laid down 15% and 7.5% of vacancies to government aided educational institutes and for jobs in the government/public sector, as reserved quota for the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribes candidates respectively for a period of five years, after which the situation was to be reviewed. Reservation, in Indian law is a form of affirmative action whereby a percentage of seats are reserved in the public sector units, union and state civil services, union and state government departments and in all public and private educational institutions, except in the religious or linguistic minority educational institutions, for the socially and educationally backward communities and the Scheduled Castes and Tribes. The common refrain tends to be that less qualified people from backward castes in the field of education and employment get preferential treatment because of caste based reservations. My argument is that allocating reservation quotas on the basis of castes is a form of discrimination which is contrary to the right to equality. Reservations on the basis of caste should be reformed as these reservations create discrimination, and the people of the upper castes who truly deserve the opportunity lose it because the reservation is already ... That risk may include taking out student loans in order to acquire the necessary degree for their wanted job. For some taking out student loans in the only way to achieve their goal of going to college. There are many different types of student loans that a person could qualify for, for example, a federal loan or private loan. No matter what type of loan is being offered before someone should accept any type of loan and the responsibilities that come along with it they should consider the positives and negative repercussions that could occur. Often times people hear many negative things about student loans but there are a few positive things about them. A student loan allows someone to attend college and further their education which gives them benefits that they will be able to use later in life. The main benefit and reason individuals go to college is to reach the goal of a higher education, greater employment opportunities and solid earnings and student loans make that possible (Venable 2). It could also be a positive thing depending on the amount a person borrows and terms they agree to pay it back. Having student loans that are possible to make regular payments on is an opportunity to increase a person s credit score allowing better financial opportunities, for example, being able to acquire a car loan, business loan, or mortgage (Venable 2). Summary Of Stuffed And Starved By Raj Patel Reading Summary/Discussion Questions #4 This week we started reading a new book called Stuffed Starved by Raj Patel and were to read the first three chapters. He has worked for the World Bank, WTO, and the UN, so his social position makes him someone others would want to listen to. Unlike Pollan, Patel goes outside of the United States and takes a global perspective in his writing. Essentially, farms are no longer owned by farmers and the farmers become the laborers. Also, it sometimes is all or nothing for farmers. For one, some land can only be used for one crop, for example coffee, and if something goes wrong with the crop, farmers lose everything. Second, unskilled labor jobs are dwindling, so there might not be much else a farmer could do if something were to happen to their land. It seems that when crops do well, farmers should be making a lot of money, however, the food processors and distributors are the ones who make most of the profit. Because of this, farmers are left with pennies compared to what the others make. Farmers and consumers have fought to control the food system, but what other choice do they have than to support it? The second section to be reviewed is chapter two. This chapter was devastating because it talked about the poverty that farmers face and the suicides that result because of it. Farmers cannot bare to see their families struggle or lose their farm that has been in the family for generations and, frequently, they use highly toxic pesticides used on their farms to commit suicide. Democracy does not persist on an equality of condition for all people or argue that all persons have a right to an equal share of worldly goods. The democratic concept of equality holds that no person should be held back for any such arbitrary reasons as those based on race, color, religion, or gender. Equality and Civil Rights is complex in nature that the 14th Amendment (Equal Protection Clause) is the closest approach to a literal statement of equality, it declares: No State shall deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws. The clause was originally intended to benefit newly freed slaves. Over time, it has acquired a broader meaning. Today, it forbids states and their local governments to draw unreasonable distinctions between classes of persons. The equal rights amendment (ERA) was introduced in 1923. Their policy was for protection of women and based largely on sexual stereotypes, which has been woven into the legal fabric of American life. This protectionism has limited the freedom of women to compete with men socially and economically on an equal footing. The movement to provide equal rights to women advanced a step with the passage of the Equal Pay Act of 1963. That act required equal pay for men and women doing similar work. On the other hand, to remove the restrictions of protectionism, women needed equal opportunity for employment. They got it in the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and later the legislation. The commitment that led to affirmative action programs expanded opportunities for women, minorities, and those who are disabled. The (Equal Opportunity ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Tariffs are often created to protect infant industries and developing economies, but are also used by more advanced economies with developed industries. Here are five of the top reasons tariffs are used: Protecting Domestic Employment The levying of tariffs is often highly politicized. Non tariff barriers to trade include: Licenses A license is granted to a business by the government, and allows the business to import a certain type of good into the country. For example, there could be a restriction on imported cheese, and licenses would be granted to certain companies allowing them to act as importers. This creates a restriction on competition, and increases prices faced by consumers. Import Quotas An import quota is a restriction placed on the amount of a particular good that can be imported. This sort of barrier is often associated with the issuance of licenses. For example, a country may place a quota on the volume of imported citrus fruit that is allowed. Voluntary Export Restraints (VER) This type of trade barrier is voluntary in that it is created by the exporting country rather than the importing one. A voluntary export restraint is usually levied at the behest of the importing country, and could be accompanied by a reciprocal VER. It is about ensuring that agency programs and policies connect with the important challenges that people, communities, and the nation face. (Berman, pg. 3) Managing this includes setting goals, developing and training employees, as well as merging appraisal of performance and rewarding performance into a single tool. The key to performance management is to ensure that the employee s performance is helping meet and reach the goals set forth by the organization or company. If management process are strategically planed, created, implemented and carried out in the proper manner, great incremental changes can be made throughout an organization to increase growth of the business. If employees do not perform or stakeholders are not happy, business can fail in many ways. • 24. Historical Capitalism And The Context Of Historical... Over time, capitalism has become one of the most dynamic economic systems that have ever existed. Not only has it been successful in bringing the entire world into a solitary framework, it has also shifted the economic state, primarily focusing on maximizing profits for the owners. This is evident as presented throughout Frederick Engels Theoretical. Engels peers deeper into the fundamental context of capitalism; however, in order to do this, he must develop a better understanding of its inconsistencies and how it has impact the overall development of the world. The notion of historical materialism is addressed when further analyzing the overall context of capitalism. According to Engels, he argues that historical materialism starts from the principle that production, and with production the exchange of its products, is the basis of every social order... (Engels, 1959: 292). In simpler terms, historical materialism is a system of production and exchange which have always been the driving forces in social and political changes. It addresses that in every society, wealth is distributed and divided into classes or orders dependent upon what is produced, how it is produced, and how the products are exchanged (Engels, 1959: 292). However, Engels does not see historical societal changes independent of the economic system corresponding to it. He believes that historical materialism is not something that only concerns capitalism, it involves itself with all economic systems, from ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 26. Why Should You Respect Your Respect Introduction: Respect. What does it mean and who deserves your respect? Respect is generally considered a positive feeling or an action shown towards someone or something considered important. It is a sense of admiration for good or valuable qualities. It is also the process of honoring someone by exhibiting consideration for their needs or feelings. Some people think that showing respect is somehow degrading. They feel that it is the weak peoples duty show respect to the mighty or powerful ones in our society. I think that this is a complete misunderstanding. It is not a weakness to see the value in others. It shows immense strength and it shows that you is secure enough on your own, to be able to look out into the world to see the value in what s out there. • 31. Hydrogen Isotopes And Radioactive Isotopes Distinguish between stable and radioactive isotopes and describe the conditions under which a nucleus is unstable. An isotope refers to elements that have different mass numbers with the same number of protons and similar chemical and physical properties but a greater number of neutrons for example carbon has 3 isotopes including carbon ((_6^12)C), carbon 13 ((_6^13)C) and carbon 14 ((_6^14)C). The difference between stable and radioactive isotopes lies in their ability to emit radiation. That is stable isotopes are unable to emit radiation whereas radioactive isotopes are capable of emitting radiation such as Alpha particles α (helium nucleus), Beta β particles (fast moving electron) and gamma γ particles (high energy electromagnetic rays). An Isotopes stability is dependent on it neutron to proton ratio for example elements are generally stable if in the lighter elements (those with atomic numbers less than 20) for example lithium, the neutron to proton ratio is 1:1 and in heavier elements (those with atomic numbers from 79 83) are stable if the ratio is 1.5:1. Also any element with an atomic number greater than 83 is naturally radioactive as they are composed of an unstable nucleus for example promethium ((_61^145)Pm). An element may also be classified as unstable/radioactive if: It has too many protons and neutron: This results in the nucleus becoming too heavy and releasing alpha particles for example: cadmium releases alpha particles and becomes palladium ... • 42. Populism In Latin America Introduction. In any social science, it is hard to find a concept that has a single, universally accepted definition. Any scholar has a vision of what characteristics are inherent to this or that phenomenon. The concept of populism is not an exception. It is one of the most difficult in this respect, as many researchers at different times have used this term to refer to different phenomena: starting from the style of speech and ending with a certain stage of development in the process of modernization of the state. In my paper, the concept of populism is defined by Kurt Weyland as a specific political strategy when the charismatic leader is directly appealing to the masses, populism is best defined as a political strategy through which a personalistic leader seeks or exercises government power based on direct, unmediated, uninstitutionalized support from large numbers of mostly unorganized followers . The concept of populism as a political strategy is usually used in relation to Latin America. This continent has a long history of populism, beginning with the 1930s 1960s, when the first wave of populist regimes was formed (Lazaro Cárdenas in Mexico, Victor Raul Haya de la Torre in Peru, Getulio Vargas in Brazil and Juan Peron in Argentina). Malvolio is a type of man who follows the rules and will scold whoever breaks it. He is disliked by most characters for his rude and strict behavior, which brings him trouble in the end. In the book Twelfth Night, Shakespeare deepens our insight into Malvolio. Malvolio appears in 7 out of the 18 scenes in the play. These kinds of images help me define the character. Puritans are kinds of people that no one in the play, Twelfth Night, will like. This is evident in the quote, Marry, sir, sometimes he is a kind of puritan , said by Maria in act II, scene III. This shows me that Malvolio cannot be friends much with anyone with an appearance and behavior like a puritan. A steward is a person who is employed on a large estate to oversee the other servants, manage domestic concerns and keep the accounts. This helps me define that Malvolio has a big responsibility and position in Olivia s household. Another image that would associate with Malvolio is a fool. This is evident because he falls for the love letter prank and dresses like a fool in an indecent manner just to win Olivia s heart. He also falls for the trick when Feste disguises as Sir Topas then back to Feste and Malvolio is unaware of that. The word somber also associates with him because he is mostly grave throughout the play. He rarely smiles until he finds out that Olivia loves him. This is my character sketch of Malvolio and as you can see, he is very unique and nothing like the other characters and has nothing in common with them. Although he is considered one of the bad guys in the play, I feel like Malvolio is a man between good and bad. He tries to do what s right like scolding Sir Toby for fooling around but he ... Knowing that violent protesting needs to be put to an end, police officials are not really sure how they should go about it. The protests at Universities have made heads turn, while government officials are contemplating on what they should do to help keep the students and speakers safe. Hate speech and free speech have some differences. According to the Merriam Webster Dictionary, hate speech is defined as a, speech that is intended to insult, offend, or intimidate a person because of some trait (Merriam Webster Dictionary). Freedom of speech is, the right to express information, ideas, and opinions free of government restrictions (Merriam Webster Dictionary). These terms have parallel but contrasting meanings. Everyone has their freedom of speech. Anyone can speak their opinions without worries. Fighting words or hate speech is protected as long as there is no violence according to Kathleen Ann Ruane, a Legislative Attorney. Different college universities are needing to lay out some regulations to their protests so that they can have a safer environment.
