Pandora s Seed Chapter Summary
At its heart, Pandora s Seed, by Spencer Wells, is about the unforeseen consequences resulting from
the inexorable march forward in the name of progress originally set in motion thousands of years ago
when our Neolithic ancestors decided to grow their own food rather than seeking it out. According to
Wells, agriculture is the most important advancement of the last 50,000 years, and the consequences of
the shift from hunter gatherer bands to settlements based around agricultural exploits are more far
reaching than anyone could have possibly known. The book begins by exploring gene variations in the
human genome, and finding genes that show strong signs of selection over the last 10,000 years or so.
This is possible due to relatively recent ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Humans had little contact with live animals before they began domesticating them. Hunters often
handled dead animals, which meant blood borne infections were somewhat common, but on the whole
communicable disease wasn t a problem like it is now. According to Wells, the clearing of land for
agricultural activities, and the need for standing or slow moving water for irrigation led to increases in
the number of mosquitoes encountered by humans, and as a result this led to more communicable
disease, specifically malaria. This susceptibility to communicable disease is one that has already been
addressed via natural selection. The gene responsible for causing sickle cell anemia also happens to
make people resistant to malaria, and we see this gene in 25% of African people living in malaria
problem area, which is strong evidence for that gene being selected for. A resistance to malaria gives
individuals in that area a higher chance of surviving and passing their genes onto another

The Black Codes In The Southern Society
The Black Codes in the Southern society which had many provisions of orders was published in 1865
and 1866 to restrict the freedom of black people (African Americans) and to reinforce strength of
white people. In a deeper meaning, this law was created to be like a way to preserve the slavery
system.
If we go through each term of The Black Codes, we can see the law almost prevented freedom of
black people (who they were call negro ). The Emancipation Proclamation in 1863 of President
Lincoln granted slave with some rights, but actually these rights were very limited. For instance,
section 2 states every nergo was not allowed to be outside of their house after 10pm or they would
receive a fine. Section 3 states slaves were not allowed owning

The Role Of Evil In Genesis
When reading Genesis, it becomes clear to the reader that the existence of evil isn t ignored. The
origin of evil has a major connection with the original sin that Adam and Eve committed when they
had eaten from the tree of knowledge. Sin was very personal to Adam and Eve, but also it was
transmitted to their descendants. The serpent seems to be the agent in temptation and he was able to
trick Eve into not only eating the apple, but also sharing it with Adam. The serpent is the mythical
figure that which is recognized as Satan according to the biblical traditions.1 Now the serpent was
more crafty than any other wild animal that the Lord God hade made (Gen 3:1) The devil seems to be
a master of cunning and first addresses himself to Eve. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

God had recognized Abel over Cain and this had turned into jealousy and anger. Both of the brothers
are well deserving of the love from God because both of them give God offerings. The failure of
recognition leads Cain to murder his brother Abel. God seems to be like a father figure for these two
boys and clearly Cain becomes jealous because God seems to recognize Abel more. Even though they
both provide God with offerings. This story of Cain and Abel isn t simply about brotherly love, but
what jealousy and anger can lead to. This story provides us with a narrative explanation of what the
feelings of guilt and loneliness represent.3 I think if God had equally recognized Cain and Abel then
this story would have been very different and then it wouldn t have ended the way it did. Cain murders
Able not because Cain wanted to gain God s recognition but to simply avoid recognition by Abel.3
Clearly Cain was jealous that God wasn t giving him the attention and recognition he thought he had
deserved. Cain would rather kill Abel than to see God appreciate Abel and shun Cain. After the murder
God is very disappointed in Cain and God thought he had to punish him in some way. And now you
are cursed from ground, which has opened it s mouth to receive your brother s blood from

The Problem Of Global Networks
The development of global networks is happening very rapidly. The number of Internet users in the
world today is about 300 million people, and their number continues to grow. A new user registers to
the Internet every two or three seconds. The number of web pages grows every day, and today there is
more than a billion. Internet opens up a great opportunities for the distribution of information. You can
find any interesting information online at any time, and then it can be easily copied to your hard drive.
To truck the further use the copied material is very difficult. Subsequently, the same material can
appear on another site without specifying a name of an author, it can be in a distorted form, or both.

Analysis Of Marie De FranceBy Marie De France
Marie de France begins her story by describing Bisclavret, her main character, as well as defining
what a werewolf is: a ferocious beast which, when possessed by this madness, devours men, causes
great damage and dwells in vast forests (de France, 68). She wants to relate the two by allowing the
reader to decide what she means by the descriptions and why she would correlate them. De France
does a little play and twists the monsters throughout her story. Being a werewolf, Bisclavret may start
out as a monster without; and, at first, his wife seems to be so beautiful and innocent, but there lied a
monster within her. Later in the story, Bisclavret is no more than a human being, and his wife s
monstrousness shows from within and she transforms into a monster without. The themes gathered
from this story are the relationship between love and suffering, justice, and the wife who may be at
first likable, but then changes the way that monsters are viewed. In order to modify the stereotypes of
what a monster is, de France made Bisclavret, a werewolf, the good guy, and his beautiful wife, an
unforeseen bad guy. The wife in the story Bisclavret portrays a trustworthy, loving wife, until she
reacts quite differently to him being honest with whom he really is. Her character is the very thing,
which makes the reader reconsider the definition of a monster and the truth about monsters within.
The relationship between Bisclavret and his wife seems to be a very good and healthy bond

The Boston Herald s Article Lizzie Borden
Women cannot be murderers. Even though this was not explicitly stated in the newspapers, The
Boston Herald in its article Lizzie Borden conveys the perception that the feminine ways associated
with women would make it impractical for women to commit murder. Lizzie Borden, a young lady
accused of brutally killing her stepmother and father with multiple blows to their heads with a hatchet
was described as a religious, sincere, and modest human being in The Boston Herald s article covering
Lizzie s life before and after the murders. During Lizzie s youth, she suffered from isolation because
of her reserved personality and belief that nobody appreciated her presence, but in womanhood turned
her life around and attain friendships who vouched for her good character during the time of the
investigation. The Boston Herald s article Lizzie Borden: Her School and Later Life A Noble Woman,
Though Retiring , successfully persuades the reader of Lizzie Borden s innocence with the focus on
her femininity through diction and logic. The word choice throughout the article promotes sympathy
towards Lizzie that reiterates the idea that women are incompetent of committing heinous crimes. For
example, in The Boston Herald s article Lizzie Borden states, Her dark, lustrous eyes, ordinarily
flashing, were, dimmed, and her pale face was evidence of the physical suffering she was undergoing
and had experienced which implies the misery Lizzie has encountered after the death of her

During the first years of World War 2, France endured several, life threatening situations, which brings
up the question if the fall of France could or could not have been prevented. For instance, Germany
invaded them and they faced several casualties from the start to 1940. Hence, Germany s attack on the
Ardenne Forest severely weakened the French army. Likewise, Hitler making his troops go to Durik
where the French were also weakened the French army. The fall of France was inevitable because of
the German army s superior strength compared to the French army, the change in regime in France,
and conflicts involving the French army from 1939 1940. The fall of France could have ... Show more

Germany thought it would give them an advantage because they would know the point of attack.
Moreover, French had responded to the original attack by putting into operation to advance to the
River Dyle, in Belgium (The Fall of France). The pressure to form a line of defense that would be
strong enough to prevent Germans from passing through, in the end did not fulfill its purpose.
Additionally, A French force advancing towards Breda, in Holland, was pushed back (The Fall of
France). This could have changed the outcome of the fall of France if they could have kept advancing.
The British sent only five infantry divisions to France at the start of the war(The Fall of France, 1940).
That was useful to the French army because it could help lessen their problems a bit. To determine this
issue, French general staff relied on some of their mightiest tanks and best equip infantry divisions to
stall(The Fall of France, 1940). To rely more wisely on their equipment and men because their is no

Gospel Of Luke-Acts Essay
Luke s Gospel is known to be the last synoptic to be written. Since Luke introduced Acts, it is crucial
to date Acts before a date for Luke can be determined. Luke leaves the reader with Paul in Rome,
waiting to present his case before Caesar. Acts had been completed long before Paul s outcome was
known, this means that Acts came about in the early sixties with the Gospel of Luke being written in
the late fifties or early sixties. Luke Acts doesn t mention the destruction of Jerusalem, which is why
there are uncertainty of where Christianity fits in amongst the religions of the Roman Empire, and the
uncertainty of Jew Gentile relations at the same level as in Paul s epistles. Because of the location, it is
agreed that Luke Acts was not written ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Liberation theology and Historical criticism are quite different in that of liberation theology looks at
the idea of the poor and suffering, where Historical criticism teaches us about the background of how
the Gospel of Luke came about. The strengths of Liberation theology are that it holds a poor
perspective which teaches us about how Jesus had a heart for the poor and suffering, for Historical
criticism the strengths are how it teaches us about who look Luke is a person and the purpose he had
in writing the Gospel. The weaknesses of the methods I used was that because both were so different
they had different purposes on interpreting the Gospel of Luke. The implications arising from my
analysis is that people have different way of interpreting the Gospel, so that for them it can give them
a better understanding of the purpose that is set and how it relates to their everyday lives. It shows
how throughout the Gospel Jesus is shown as a helper and how the parables have meaning to them.
The Gospel of Luke teaches us about life, and how Jesus had helped so many, and how we can follow
in Jesus footsteps and continue to do what he has done, through the parables that Luke has written in

Tobacco And Radiation Cause Cancer Essay

People wonder why they have been diagnosed with cancer, they also wonder how it could have
happened. Some people don t understand why tobacco and radiation cause cancer, and that is what is
answered in this essay. The smoke that emits from smoking tobacco holds a radioactive chemical
called polonium 210. Additionally, X rays and gamma rays are recognized as human carcinogens. As a
result, smoking causes DNA damage which leads to cancer! To what extent does tobacco and radiation
cause cancer?
Polonomium 210 Major tobacco industries found that polonium 210 was in tobacco for more than 40
years and tried to remove the substance but failed. Studies have detected polonium 210 in the airways
of smokers, where they are concentrated in hot spots. They remain there because other chemicals in
cigarette smoke damage the body s cleaning systems, which would normally get rid of gunk in our
airways (Yong). In the end, polonium 210 forms up and disturbs nearby cells to larger amounts of
alpha radiation. This leads to far larger and lengthier exposures to ... Show more content on

Pollutants in cigarettes calls Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons cause genetic damage in a matter or
minutes. Our bodies are intended to deal with a little harm but it s difficult for the body to manage the
quantity of injurious chemicals in tobacco smoke. Each cigarette can damage DNA in many lung cells,
but it is the formation of damage in the same cell that can lead to cancer. Smoking weakens the body s
defenses. We all have cleaner proteins called detoxification enzymes that clean up harmful chemicals
and change them into harmless ones. But the chemicals in smoke, such as cadmium, can overwhelm
these cleaners. Cigarette smoke also impacts the immune system increasing cells which can encourage
tumor growth in the lungs and suppressing the ones which kill cancer

The objective is to determine the most cost effective method to decrease the project s deadline. The
project plan discussed below has been generated through the use of a projectplanning scheduling
technique, Critical Path Methodology, to secure the scientific approach. The program schedule
provides a quantitative basis to make managerial decisions to shorten the implementation time of the
overall project.
2. Assumptions and Approximations
The mathematical model created to schedule all the projects is based upon a number of simplifying
assumptions and approximations. These need to be taken into account in order to make an independent
judgment about the model s usefulness.
The assumptions and approximations of this model are:
ï‚·
The product introduction program has been broken down into three groups of activities: Research
Development, Marketing Advertising, and Promotion;
ï‚·
The description of each activity and the indicated time required for its completion in weeks was taken
at face value from the case;
ï‚·
The tasks to be performed by each department and the estimated durations and deadlines were also
considered as given;
ï‚·
The preceding activities for each activity are considered as such;

The tasks that could potentially be crashed by increasing resources were decisions based on the
information available in the case.

Similarities Between Tiananmen Square And Fahrenheit 451
Martin Luther King Jr. once said that Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things
that matter. Such a thought is common among people that want to spark change. To keep themselves
alive, they rebel. Silence is the equivalent of death. It is death to hope for a better future. In China,
many students shared this common idea. Beginning in the spring of 1989, Beijing s students gathered
in a famous square known as Tiananmen Square. They were protesting their communist government.
There was unemployment, inflation, corruption of the government, and restrictions on the future of the
students. They wished for a life of democracy where they could have a dialogue with the government.
They refused to let silence kill them. Millions of students gathered, protested, paraded, held meetings,
staged sit ins, and hunger strikes. At first, the government let the protests continue. When it was out of
control, the students were pushed to leave. When the students refused, chaos broke loose. Many ...

In Tiananmen Square, the protesters were given a warning. The were ordered to clear the square

crackdown on the student demonstrators and the clearance of Tiananmen Square on the grounds that a
counter revolutionary riot was fermenting and continued instability would retard economic reform
(Tiananmen Square Incident: Cold War). This shows that after being advised to halt the rebellion,
consequences ensued. The reasoning behind the consequence was that this demonstration caused
instability even though part of the protest was requesting government stability. It is clear that in the
rebellion of Tiananmen Square, protesters were given a chance to clear away before government

Who Is Willy Loman s Blind Faith In Death Of A Salesman
Why racism pretends to be an issue when it s not? In Death of a Salesman by Arthur miller, Willy
Loman s blind faith in his stunted version of the American Dream leads to his rapid psychological
debility when he is unable to accept the disparity between the Dream and his own life. Miller explains
that Lorman killed himself to provide a better a life for his family cause of his mistakes chasing the
unknown dream. He also mentions how he refused to accept failure and demanded the appearance of
utmost confidence in his household. First I m going to talk about why the play of Death of a Salesman
is universal, and second about why I think every culture can relate to the story.
The play is universal and non racial. According to John Lahr s review Hard Sell , the play of death of a
Salesman has been a failure for black actors. He believes during 1949 that staging all white production
of a play is a senseless idea for a black during that time. He explains that ... Show more content on

Mao s Last Dancer
In the graphic novel American Born Chinese (2006) by Gene Luen Yang and the full length
autobiography Mao s Last Dancer (2003) by Li Cunxin, both writers use a range of stylistic features
and generic conventions to create a memorable text. A memorable text consists of elements or issues
present in a text, which the reader finds notable or striking. This can be due to a number of factors,
particularly features of the text that the author has altered intentionally to evoke certain audience
emotions. The dominant idea of metamorphosis or transformation presented in ABC are very much
memorable as it coincides with concepts of fitting in and shape shifting into various social/cultural
norms that are deemed in mainstream society as acceptable. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Both texts are similar in the sense that they mutually convey a central theme of breaking the mould in
which they were placed initially and, through differentiating skills, are able to successfully burst
through these casts and redefine standards. Yang s protagonists , (Jin Wang, The Monkey King and
Danny) through numerous internal conflicts, achieve utter satisfaction with the physique they were
born with. So too with Cunxin s recitation of his personal journey of hard work and pure
determination which helped him strive to become one of the most prestigious ballerinos in his time,
leading him to ultimately undertake Westernized standards of dance. Comparably, the creators of both
text types originate from Asian particularly Chinese heritage which further demonstrates resemblances
of social and personal contexts at its provenance. As one text relates primarily to the struggles of a 2nd
generation, young Chinese boy s struggle to fit in into modern American society/culture where overt
and invert forms of racism are present , the other illustrates the tremendous willpower that another
Chinese boy faces to inevitably make the best of forced circumstances and achieve the virtually

Stereotypes Of Reality TV Shows
Diversity is everywhere. Is it really everywhere? Even on our television shows? Many would beg to
differ. Throughout the course of television history, we see television ranging from documentaries to
drama to reality. As there is drama and comedy on our screens there isn t a healthy range of races or
ethnicities throughout TV shows. In 2017, we live in an America with over millions of people of
different backgrounds, but that does not seem to reflect how it is represented on television shows. The
portrayal of diversity on our television screens isn t shown as much as it is seen throughout America,
thus creating stereotypes of multiple minorities and unflattering perceptions from less educated
viewers. Reality TV is a hot contender regarding the number of minority groups seen. Stereotypes are
already made based on what others believe, however television shows create an even deeper
stereotype of minority groups. Reality TV shows like The Jersey Shore... rely on stereotypes of
minority groups for entertainment. Careful editing exaggerate these stereotypes and help producers
create the story they want to tell...The outrage expressed by some Italian Americans over MTV s
Jersey Shore marks a late in coming epiphany about reality TV programs... (Braxton). We see that
creators of well known TV shows rely on the received idea of certain minority groups, in this case it s

The Pros And Cons Of Probable Cause For A Search
Hey, Professor Farris, according to the Shelby County Sheriff s Department any search or seizure
without a warrant must be justified and supported by clear, convincing and articulable facts. Officers
must be prepared to justify any and all warrantless searches. A search without a warrant has
consistently been found by the courts to be preemptively unreasonable, and therefore invalid, absent
specific and articulable facts. If an experienced officer has the reasonable suspicions can articulate to a
set of facts and circumstances that criminal activity may be afoot and make rational inferences.
(Booker, 2015) The officer must have probable cause under any circumstances that would lead a
reasonable man to believe that it is more likely than not a certain individual has committed or is
committing an absolute crime. Officers may search vehicles when there is probable cause to believe
that contraband or evidence of a crime is present in the vehicle. The vehicles need only to show
inherent mobility rather than actual mobility. The search can be made immediately or delayed as long
as probable cause existed even if the vehicle has been impounded and immobilized. An officer may
search in any place that the object of the search may reasonably be found. This includes locked
containers. Probable cause must be item specific. Probable cause for arrest is not probable cause for a
search. Probable cause for a warrantless vehicle search has to be just as sufficient as probable cause to
support

What Memories Tell About Truth
What Memories Tell About Truth It is a common belief that memories are important, but why is that
so? Is it because memory can be a marker for a person s level of intelligence or does it have to do with
the effect memory has on person? Memory can be thought of as a recollection of an event that has
been pieced together from information by the mind. These collections of memories that a person
possesses are what define their identity, assist in future decision making based on past experiences,
and describes life experiences. But memory can be a tricky. The tendency to distort one s own
memory can be a way to make the world more understandable and allows a person to place these
experiences in terms better fitting to their own needs. The Yellow Birds narrator, Bartle, presents the
connection between truth and memory in an interesting way. Through Bartle s memories the idea of
personal truth stems from a distorted account done for his own peace of mind versus the acceptance of
the factual truth.
When people reconstruct memories, they do not purposely try to distort the actual experience, unless
their motive was to lie. In the case of Bartle s memories, the motive behind his distortion was done in
emotional self preservation. Like most soldiers returning home from overseas, Bartle s emotional state

The Slate Belt
The bioregion of the Slate Belt is in the northeastern most corner of Northampton County
Pennsylvania. This bioregion is unique to others in the region due to the Martinsville Shale deposits.
These deposits contain high quality slate that when quarried and sold on the market, lead the industry
in the United State for over 100 years. The industry in the south valley consists of cement plants due
to rich limestone deposits and abandoned iron mines in the west for the now defunct Bethlehem Steel.
To the north of the Slate Belt lie anthracite coalmines from other geological deposits. To the east lie
small quasi fertile farmlands and great swaths of deciduous forest. Further, the Slate Belt bioregion is
easily defined by three major geomorphs: the Kittatinny Ridge/Blue Mountain to the north, the
Delaware River to the east and south and the Bushkill Creek to the west. These landforms easily
demark the bioregion. The people of Welsh and Italian ancestry of the local population that quarries
the slate has created a culture that is filled with the pride. All of these unique attributes contribute to
formation of a bioregion that can with effort and proper management become independent and self
sustaining.
The Slate Belt bioregion is nested within the Great Valley Section of the Valley and Ridge Province
that was formed by thrust and fault folding during the Late Ordovician period through and Late
Paleozoic era.(Bailey,1992; Geyer, 1979;Van Diver, 1990). During this time Taconian

Compare Roark And Mr Keating
Character Comparative Essay There is a reason pride is the deadliest of the seven sins. It can cause
great conflict or sweet harmony in real life and in literature. Some, like Aristotle, consider it the crown
of the virutes. Indeed, Howard Roark and Mr. Keating both qualify as examples of Aristotle s the
proud man through their actions and reactions, but while Roark s pride is used as an excuse for
violence and impracticality, Mr. Keating s pride paints him as a respectable and decent man. The
Welton School in Dead Poets Society offers little in regards to living space, as pointed out by Neil
when he visits Mr. Keating. Mr. Keating replies, it s part of the monastic oath. They don t want
worldly things distracting me... When Neil asks why Mr. Keating puts up with it, the man responds,

He demonstrates that he doesn t just teach to live, he lives to teach, and he positively impacts every
student he works with. A very important part of Aristotle s philosophy is that It is a mark of the proud
man also to ask for nothing or scarcely anything, but to give help readily, Mr. Keating s execution of
this earns him respect and admiration from his students and most of his peers. Howard Roark s version
of [giving] help readily, is to complete whatever sketch Peter Keating brings to him because Peter is
spineless in his work. All Roark accomplishes with this is letting Peter know it s acceptable to leach
off Roark for the rest of his career and it ultimately crushes the spineless man in the end. Peter Keating
exemplifies Aristotle s version of the man without perfect virtue for he imitate[s] the proud man
without being like him... thinking themselves superior to others, In another instance of Howard Roark

The Control Of Mind Control In 1984 By George Orwell
In the novel 1984 George Orwell demonstrates how the government maintains power through mind
control and manipulation of the masses. Orwell hints that when the government (Big Brother), holds
too much power they become crooked and devious towards the rest of the population. In a nutshell
Orwell is conveying that a corrupt government destroys all chances for an ideal society. Collectively,
George Orwell made a prediction of what was going to happen, and it has become a reality to some
extent. Overall this is a great book for the current political state. As Lewis Beale states in his CNN
article nearly all public and private places have large TV screens that broadcast government
propaganda, news and approved entertainment. But they are also two way monitors that spy on
citizens private lives. Today websites like Facebook track our likes and dislikes, and governments and
private individuals hack into our computers and find out what they want to know. Then there are the
ever present surveillance cameras that spy on the average person as they go about their daily routine .
The first clear example occurs with the posters with the words Big Brother is Watching You (page 5).
This is clear evidence that the government is watching over its people. Shortly afterwards we learn of
the Thought Police , who snoop in on conversations sort of like how the government does today, and
always watch your every move (surveillence cameras) controlling the acts and thoughts of the people.

Jacques Louis David: Gouvernement Anglois (The English Government)
Introduction: As one can expect from the very nature of political and social revolutions, there were
some very unhappy people during the French revolution. The question here is why the French citizens
of this time so upset were and was their discontent so great that a revolution could be justified?
Furthermore, who and what will be the ultimate vehicle to bring the necessary political, social and
economic dreams to realization? The French Revolution in began in 1789 and ended in 1799, this was

The king s face is vomiting flames and smoke directly through the center of the image at a frightened
group people attempting to escape the flames that distinctly separate the two parties. The painting is
symbolic of the way in which the English Government was separating itself from its people through
its monopolization of commerce at that time (Johnson, 1993). The smoke and fire coming from the
back of the demon is symbolic of the taxes in which the government uses to ensure this monopoly.
There is also a caption at the bottom of the page which describes the scenario. According to the print s
caption the English government is personified by the figure of a Devil skinned alive. Obviously, this
image can not be taken literally, but its allegorical suggestion held great significance to the times. The
explicit nature of this image does not leave much room for imagination. Had his past works not been
so technically flawless some viewers could mistake the crudeness of this piece as a result of David s
artistic and intellectual inadequacy, this could not be farther from the truth, in fact, many believe
David did this on purpose. Purpose: Although it certainly angered many of those who benefit from
unjust taxation, this piece was not created to serve the English Government and those alike, but it was
created to serve those who are being unfairly persecuted by any absolute government, for example: the
bourgeoisie during

affect how they reacted towards natural objects such as: sticks, rocks, leaves, mulch, and a pinecone vs
an artificial object such as a straw. While doing this experiment, we observed the independent

The first thing that we had to do before we even started the experiment was to collect our materials.
We went outside and collected the natural objects we were going to test with, and we found a straw
that we would use as our artificial object. We placed all of our materials onto our desk. The next step
was to get the worms. We ended up getting five worms but due to the death of one, we only tested on
four of the worms. We observed the worms and we made sure to identify the sizes of the worms. After
studying the worms we took the largest worm and decided to test it first. This worm would be

Analysis Of De Sade s The Misfortunes Of Virtue
Whether or not you accede with the themes in Marquis De Sade s Misfortunes of Virtue , there is no
doubt his works are some of the most inciting to have ever been constructed. Although Marquis
debates several beliefs in his works, he focuses on one in The Misfortunes of Virtue that seems shaky.
The theory of Vice versus Virtue in the words of De Sade has no logical aspect to it, at least to a down
to earth human being . De Sade once said, In order to know virtue, we must first acquaint ourselves
with vice. De Sade s conception of vice and virtue is nowhere near what we perceive it to be. Though,
through the utilization of multiple characters, his neutral stance and erroneous logic, we as readers can
sift through the differences and visually perceive the authentic meaning of vice and virtue by using
common day human logic and experiences to construct a more up to date version of De Sade s Vice
and Virtue . Throughout De Sade s Misfortunes of Virtue his writing is meant to have a neutral stance
and come off in a way that De Sade lives vicariously through the characters in order to display his
beliefs. With his characters, De Sade argues the theory of Vice versus Virtue and attempts to make the
example that there simply is no difference between the two. De Sade believes There is only human
kind s selfish goal of self preservation and seeking pleasure . According to Webster s dictionary, virtue
is defined as: the moral excellence of a person. A morally excellent

NATURAL IS THE WAY, SYNTHETIC YOU CAN T STAY!
Drugs are prevalent in many ways, there s a clear majority of different kinds that are created to be both

Legalities is an essential beginning when comparing these two types of marijuana, though both natural

  • 2. Pandora s Seed Chapter Summary At its heart, Pandora s Seed, by Spencer Wells, is about the unforeseen consequences resulting from the inexorable march forward in the name of progress originally set in motion thousands of years ago when our Neolithic ancestors decided to grow their own food rather than seeking it out. According to Wells, agriculture is the most important advancement of the last 50,000 years, and the consequences of the shift from hunter gatherer bands to settlements based around agricultural exploits are more far reaching than anyone could have possibly known. The book begins by exploring gene variations in the human genome, and finding genes that show strong signs of selection over the last 10,000 years or so. This is possible due to relatively recent ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Humans had little contact with live animals before they began domesticating them. Hunters often handled dead animals, which meant blood borne infections were somewhat common, but on the whole communicable disease wasn t a problem like it is now. According to Wells, the clearing of land for agricultural activities, and the need for standing or slow moving water for irrigation led to increases in the number of mosquitoes encountered by humans, and as a result this led to more communicable disease, specifically malaria. This susceptibility to communicable disease is one that has already been addressed via natural selection. The gene responsible for causing sickle cell anemia also happens to make people resistant to malaria, and we see this gene in 25% of African people living in malaria problem area, which is strong evidence for that gene being selected for. A resistance to malaria gives individuals in that area a higher chance of surviving and passing their genes onto another ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Black Codes In The Southern Society The Black Codes in the Southern society which had many provisions of orders was published in 1865 and 1866 to restrict the freedom of black people (African Americans) and to reinforce strength of white people. In a deeper meaning, this law was created to be like a way to preserve the slavery system. If we go through each term of The Black Codes, we can see the law almost prevented freedom of black people (who they were call negro ). The Emancipation Proclamation in 1863 of President Lincoln granted slave with some rights, but actually these rights were very limited. For instance, section 2 states every nergo was not allowed to be outside of their house after 10pm or they would receive a fine. Section 3 states slaves were not allowed owning ... • 4. The Role Of Evil In Genesis When reading Genesis, it becomes clear to the reader that the existence of evil isn t ignored. The origin of evil has a major connection with the original sin that Adam and Eve committed when they had eaten from the tree of knowledge. Sin was very personal to Adam and Eve, but also it was transmitted to their descendants. The serpent seems to be the agent in temptation and he was able to trick Eve into not only eating the apple, but also sharing it with Adam. The serpent is the mythical figure that which is recognized as Satan according to the biblical traditions.1 Now the serpent was more crafty than any other wild animal that the Lord God hade made (Gen 3:1) The devil seems to be a master of cunning and first addresses himself to Eve. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... God had recognized Abel over Cain and this had turned into jealousy and anger. Both of the brothers are well deserving of the love from God because both of them give God offerings. The failure of recognition leads Cain to murder his brother Abel. God seems to be like a father figure for these two boys and clearly Cain becomes jealous because God seems to recognize Abel more. Even though they both provide God with offerings. This story of Cain and Abel isn t simply about brotherly love, but what jealousy and anger can lead to. This story provides us with a narrative explanation of what the feelings of guilt and loneliness represent.3 I think if God had equally recognized Cain and Abel then this story would have been very different and then it wouldn t have ended the way it did. Cain murders Able not because Cain wanted to gain God s recognition but to simply avoid recognition by Abel.3 Clearly Cain was jealous that God wasn t giving him the attention and recognition he thought he had deserved. Cain would rather kill Abel than to see God appreciate Abel and shun Cain. After the murder God is very disappointed in Cain and God thought he had to punish him in some way. And now you are cursed from ground, which has opened it s mouth to receive your brother s blood from ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Analysis Of Marie De FranceBy Marie De France Marie de France begins her story by describing Bisclavret, her main character, as well as defining what a werewolf is: a ferocious beast which, when possessed by this madness, devours men, causes great damage and dwells in vast forests (de France, 68). She wants to relate the two by allowing the reader to decide what she means by the descriptions and why she would correlate them. De France does a little play and twists the monsters throughout her story. Being a werewolf, Bisclavret may start out as a monster without; and, at first, his wife seems to be so beautiful and innocent, but there lied a monster within her. Later in the story, Bisclavret is no more than a human being, and his wife s monstrousness shows from within and she transforms into a monster without. The themes gathered from this story are the relationship between love and suffering, justice, and the wife who may be at first likable, but then changes the way that monsters are viewed. In order to modify the stereotypes of what a monster is, de France made Bisclavret, a werewolf, the good guy, and his beautiful wife, an unforeseen bad guy. The wife in the story Bisclavret portrays a trustworthy, loving wife, until she reacts quite differently to him being honest with whom he really is. Her character is the very thing, which makes the reader reconsider the definition of a monster and the truth about monsters within. The relationship between Bisclavret and his wife seems to be a very good and healthy bond ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. The Boston Herald s Article Lizzie Borden Women cannot be murderers. Even though this was not explicitly stated in the newspapers, The Boston Herald in its article Lizzie Borden conveys the perception that the feminine ways associated with women would make it impractical for women to commit murder. Lizzie Borden, a young lady accused of brutally killing her stepmother and father with multiple blows to their heads with a hatchet was described as a religious, sincere, and modest human being in The Boston Herald s article covering Lizzie s life before and after the murders. During Lizzie s youth, she suffered from isolation because of her reserved personality and belief that nobody appreciated her presence, but in womanhood turned her life around and attain friendships who vouched for her good character during the time of the investigation. The Boston Herald s article Lizzie Borden: Her School and Later Life A Noble Woman, Though Retiring , successfully persuades the reader of Lizzie Borden s innocence with the focus on her femininity through diction and logic. The word choice throughout the article promotes sympathy towards Lizzie that reiterates the idea that women are incompetent of committing heinous crimes. For example, in The Boston Herald s article Lizzie Borden states, Her dark, lustrous eyes, ordinarily flashing, were, dimmed, and her pale face was evidence of the physical suffering she was undergoing and had experienced which implies the misery Lizzie has encountered after the death of her ... Fall Of France Research Paper Eileen Araujo Mr. Cannon Honors U.S. History 2B 13 December 2015 During the first years of World War 2, France endured several, life threatening situations, which brings up the question if the fall of France could or could not have been prevented. For instance, Germany invaded them and they faced several casualties from the start to 1940. Hence, Germany s attack on the Ardenne Forest severely weakened the French army. Likewise, Hitler making his troops go to Durik where the French were also weakened the French army. The fall of France was inevitable because of the German army s superior strength compared to the French army, the change in regime in France, and conflicts involving the French army from 1939 1940. The British sent only five infantry divisions to France at the start of the war(The Fall of France, 1940). That was useful to the French army because it could help lessen their problems a bit. Luke leaves the reader with Paul in Rome, waiting to present his case before Caesar. Acts had been completed long before Paul s outcome was known, this means that Acts came about in the early sixties with the Gospel of Luke being written in the late fifties or early sixties. Some people don t understand why tobacco and radiation cause cancer, and that is what is answered in this essay. The smoke that emits from smoking tobacco holds a radioactive chemical called polonium 210. Additionally, X rays and gamma rays are recognized as human carcinogens. As a result, smoking causes DNA damage which leads to cancer! To what extent does tobacco and radiation cause cancer? Polonomium 210 Major tobacco industries found that polonium 210 was in tobacco for more than 40 years and tried to remove the substance but failed. Studies have detected polonium 210 in the airways of smokers, where they are concentrated in hot spots. They remain there because other chemicals in cigarette smoke damage the body s cleaning systems, which would normally get rid of gunk in our airways (Yong). Such a thought is common among people that want to spark change. To keep themselves alive, they rebel. Silence is the equivalent of death. It is death to hope for a better future. In China, many students shared this common idea. Beginning in the spring of 1989, Beijing s students gathered in a famous square known as Tiananmen Square. The Pros And Cons Of Probable Cause For A Search Hey, Professor Farris, according to the Shelby County Sheriff s Department any search or seizure without a warrant must be justified and supported by clear, convincing and articulable facts. Officers must be prepared to justify any and all warrantless searches. A search without a warrant has consistently been found by the courts to be preemptively unreasonable, and therefore invalid, absent specific and articulable facts. If an experienced officer has the reasonable suspicions can articulate to a set of facts and circumstances that criminal activity may be afoot and make rational inferences. (Booker, 2015) The officer must have probable cause under any circumstances that would lead a reasonable man to believe that it is more likely than not a certain individual has committed or is committing an absolute crime. Officers may search vehicles when there is probable cause to believe that contraband or evidence of a crime is present in the vehicle. The vehicles need only to show inherent mobility rather than actual mobility. The search can be made immediately or delayed as long as probable cause existed even if the vehicle has been impounded and immobilized. An officer may search in any place that the object of the search may reasonably be found. This includes locked containers. Probable cause must be item specific. Probable cause for arrest is not probable cause for a search. Probable cause for a warrantless vehicle search has to be just as sufficient as probable cause to support ... • 22. What Memories Tell About Truth What Memories Tell About Truth It is a common belief that memories are important, but why is that so? Is it because memory can be a marker for a person s level of intelligence or does it have to do with the effect memory has on person? Memory can be thought of as a recollection of an event that has been pieced together from information by the mind. These collections of memories that a person possesses are what define their identity, assist in future decision making based on past experiences, and describes life experiences. But memory can be a tricky. The tendency to distort one s own memory can be a way to make the world more understandable and allows a person to place these experiences in terms better fitting to their own needs. The Yellow Birds narrator, Bartle, presents the connection between truth and memory in an interesting way. Through Bartle s memories the idea of personal truth stems from a distorted account done for his own peace of mind versus the acceptance of the factual truth. When people reconstruct memories, they do not purposely try to distort the actual experience, unless their motive was to lie. In the case of Bartle s memories, the motive behind his distortion was done in emotional self preservation. Like most soldiers returning home from overseas, Bartle s emotional state was distressing due to the traumatic events that happened in Al Tafar. Orwell hints that when the government (Big Brother), holds too much power they become crooked and devious towards the rest of the population. In a nutshell Orwell is conveying that a corrupt government destroys all chances for an ideal society. Collectively, George Orwell made a prediction of what was going to happen, and it has become a reality to some extent. Overall this is a great book for the current political state. As Lewis Beale states in his CNN article nearly all public and private places have large TV screens that broadcast government propaganda, news and approved entertainment. But they are also two way monitors that spy on citizens private lives. Today websites like Facebook track our likes and dislikes, and governments and private individuals hack into our computers and find out what they want to know. Then there are the ever present surveillance cameras that spy on the average person as they go about their daily routine . The first clear example occurs with the posters with the words Big Brother is Watching You (page 5). This is clear evidence that the government is watching over its people. Shortly afterwards we learn of the Thought Police , who snoop in on conversations sort of like how the government does today, and always watch your every move (surveillence cameras) controlling the acts and thoughts of the people. ... The question here is why the French citizens of this time so upset were and was their discontent so great that a revolution could be justified? Furthermore, who and what will be the ultimate vehicle to bring the necessary political, social and economic dreams to realization? The king s face is vomiting flames and smoke directly through the center of the image at a frightened group people attempting to escape the flames that distinctly separate the two parties. The painting is symbolic of the way in which the English Government was separating itself from its people through its monopolization of commerce at that time (Johnson, 1993). The smoke and fire coming from the back of the demon is symbolic of the taxes in which the government uses to ensure this monopoly. There is also a caption at the bottom of the page which describes the scenario. According to the print s caption the English government is personified by the figure of a Devil skinned alive. Obviously, this image can not be taken literally, but its allegorical suggestion held great significance to the times. The explicit nature of this image does not leave much room for imagination. Had his past works not been so technically flawless some viewers could mistake the crudeness of this piece as a result of David s artistic and intellectual inadequacy, this could not be farther from the truth, in fact, many believe David did this on purpose. Analysis Of De Sade s The Misfortunes Of Virtue Whether or not you accede with the themes in Marquis De Sade s Misfortunes of Virtue , there is no doubt his works are some of the most inciting to have ever been constructed. Although Marquis debates several beliefs in his works, he focuses on one in The Misfortunes of Virtue that seems shaky. The theory of Vice versus Virtue in the words of De Sade has no logical aspect to it, at least to a down to earth human being . De Sade once said, In order to know virtue, we must first acquaint ourselves with vice. De Sade s conception of vice and virtue is nowhere near what we perceive it to be. Though, through the utilization of multiple characters, his neutral stance and erroneous logic, we as readers can sift through the differences and visually perceive the authentic meaning of vice and virtue by using common day human logic and experiences to construct a more up to date version of De Sade s Vice and Virtue . Throughout De Sade s Misfortunes of Virtue his writing is meant to have a neutral stance and come off in a way that De Sade lives vicariously through the characters in order to display his beliefs. With his characters, De Sade argues the theory of Vice versus Virtue and attempts to make the example that there simply is no difference between the two.
