Social Civilization In Korea
The Japanese colonization of Korea made Koreans an easy target of exploitation. Since Japan was in a
great need of cheap labor, Korean workers were recruited during 1920s. In this essay, I am going to
discuss the significance of institutional racial discrimination targeted towards Korean workers in
interwar Japan as a tool of alienation and exploitation. One of the abiding discernments formed in Karl
Marx s Capital is that in the colonies of capitalist nation states the apparitions of the law of the supply
and demand of labor are crushed. In the home country, the magnificent allurement of capitalist
production can be found in its capability to reproduce the wage laborer by regularly setting him or her
free, firing him or her and by creating a surplus population that rests in approximate exteriority to
capitalist manufacturing as the prerequisite for the commodification of labor power. Regularly
handling labor power as a expendable commodity is hence the way capitalist manufacturing can
assure that its most nonexpendable commodity labor power is constantly there by the time capitalist
manufacturing encounters so called labor shortages during industrial expansion. It is this reproductive
apparatus that enables the smug knavery of the Japanese colonial policymaker to envision and to
formalize into normalized principles of economic shift, that owners of labor power who are de facto
impelled to enter into a relationship of reliance with the wage form can take part in

Hezbolah Research Paper
Hezbollah originated from a group of Lebanese Shi ite Muslims from Iran. Traditionally, they were the
weakest religious group in Lebanon. Hezbollah is a militia and political party that started as a small
group following the Israeli invasion of Lebanon in 1982. It is a group that Europe and the United
States consider a terrorist group. November 22, 1943 Lebanon declared independence. Quickly after,
the small country saw its authority being threatened by a group who is financed by Iran. In a video
created by the Israel Defense Security it explains how Iran dictates the actions of Hezbollah.
Hezbollah, a state within a state, is named a party of god . The goal of Hezbollah was to separate
Israel from Lebanon and create an Islamic state. Hezbollah has attacked Israel countless times and
they also fought in Lebanon s civil war from 1975 1990. The Ta if agreement ended the war and this is
when Hezbollah became a top leader in politics. In 1992 the group was granted eight seats in the
parliament. The group has big support from Iran and Syria, which has kept them protected. ... Show

Hezbollah is considered an Islamic terrorist group who engages in terroristic acts against Israel. July

Hezbollah killed a large number of Israeli soldiers and abducted two. This led to a 34 day war between
Hezbollah and Israel that had more than one thousand casualties and left more than a million
displaced. Hezbollah became a hero to much of the Arab nation because they were the first to ever
beat Israel. Hezbollah then used its new gained power to go after the Lebanese government. July 2008,
Hezbollah and Israel came to an agreement on an exchange of many Lebanese prisoners and remains

Relational Database Model And Key Value Store Data Model...
COMPARISON OF RELATIONAL DATABASE MODEL AND KEY VALUE STORE DATA
MODEL OF NO SQL DATABASE SYSTEM: The Relational database system and the key value store
model of No SQL database systems are both appropriate database methods depending on the way they
are being implemented and the purpose of the business for which they are being incorporated.
However, both the database approaches have distinct wide variety of characteristics, based on which
they can be compared and contrasted in the following way.
STRUCTURE OF DATA: The data structure of a relational database comprises of table structure.
Every table is identified by a unique name or label. The data tables are described as the collection of
rows and columns. Each row of the table is known as the record and each column is known as the field
of the specific data table. All the data sets are well organized and logical linked to each other through
definite and unique relationships. A table, therefore can also be defined as the structured collection of
relationships . The fundamental aim of developing No SQL database systems is to easily and
effectively handle vast quantities of data or information in advanced web scale applications. In order
to achieve this purpose, the No SQL systems are designed as the schema free database systems. There
are different modes to define the No SQL databases that typically depend on the requirements of the
data that has to be managed. The data model for key value store No SQL database is

Summary Of Incidents In The Life Of A Slave Girl
Incidents in the Life of a Slave Girl is a slave narrative written by Harriet Jacobs, and was published
by Barnes Noble Classics in New York City circa 2005. The book is an autobiography of Jacob s life,
however she uses a sort of code name, which is Linda Brent.
Summary
Linda Brent was born to slaves, but she was unaware that she was a slave until she was about six years
old. Her father was a carpenter by trade, and he was quite good at it. During the first six years of
Linda s life things were normal, and William, her younger brother, and she lived a happy life.
Nevertheless, when she turned six things changed for the worse. Linda and William s mother had died
that year, and that was when she finally understood who she was, a slave. After the tragic death, Linda
was taken under her mother s mistress s wing. Even though her mother had died, her new mistress
filled the void and became her second mom. Linda had a great six or so years with her mother s old
mistress and her new mistress, but she too tragically died. This left Linda with a new mistress, and this
one was only five years old, so in reality she was the property of her masters, and his name was Dr.
Flint.
Dr. Flint purchased Linda and her brother William, and he was a very cruel ... Show more content on

The book was well written in chronological order, which made for an easy read. This book is
extremely enjoyable and telling, and it allows readers to find themselves really sympathizing and
empathizing with Linda and her family. The one thing that I think Jacobs could have done differently
is not using different names for the characters. To me the book would have been a thousand times
more personable had she chosen to use her real name, and her family s real names. However that does
not in anyway take away from the power and sadness that her personal story

An Analysis Of The Speaker s Breakdown
In the beginning of the story, the speaker has an appropriate response to the ordeal of being shy and
bashful, most girls would be in this situation. Stating that, ... I dared not smile, And lowered my head
toward a dark corner.. (Li Po 8 9). Back then, the girls of the family were to be married off to someone
of the parents choosing without consent from the daughter. The husband would be usually older than
her and would have some sort of occupation. So for the author not being familiar with the man and for
being shy of him is understandable. At the age of 15, this state of being shy begins to drift away. The
speaker states, But at age of fifteen I straightened my brow and laughed (Li Po 11). The tension

Vivien Thomas Research Paper
Vivien Thomas was born on August 29th, 1910. He is an African American surgical technician. He is
known for developing procedures that were used to treat blue baby syndrome in the 1940s. However,
Vivien wasn t alone on this. He was an assistant to Alfred Blalock. They worked at an experimental
animal laboratory at Vanderbilt University. It was in Nashville, Tennessee. Due to the circumstances of
racism at the time, he was classified as just a janitor. But, Alfred Blalock ignored that fact and had

It also disproved previous theories on the cause of crush syndrome. Alfred was able to gain wide
recognition in the medical community after Vivien and Alfred provided undeniable proof. By the mid
1930s, they began experimental work in vascular and cardiac surgery. This defied medical taboos
against operating on the heart. A decade later, this work would see them saving a life at Johns
Hopkins. While doing this work, Alfred and Vivien would give dogs the blue baby syndrome. They
did this so that they could figure out ways to cure the blue baby syndrome. They did surgery on dog s
hearts in hopes it would reverse the effects and save them from dying. By 1940, Blalock was offered
the position of Chief of Surgery. He requested that Thomas would accompany him. In infants that
have blue baby syndrome, blood is shunted past the lungs and it deprives them of oxygen. This is also
why they turn blue. To cure this defect, it was suggested that it might be possible to reconnect the
pipes in some kind of way. This would be done to increase the level of blood flow to the lungs. On
November 29th, 1944, an eighteen month old named Eileen Saxon was the first infant the procedure

Boston Red Patriots Essay
Founded on September 7th, 1630, Boston was one of the largest cities in North America, and was also
a hotbed for revolutionary Patriots in the late 1700 s. Yet very little meaningful fighting happened
around this area, despite its size, and the some 28,000 men in and around it. It was because of the
Continental Army s lack of discipline, trained officers and adequate equipment, and the British force s
laziness around orders and lack of enthusiasm for going on the offensive that made the Siege of
Boston an avoidable, and pointless stalemate.
On one side of the siege, were the Patriots who made up the young and scrappy Continental Army, a
mixture of untrained northern militias, southern auxiliary infantry units, and the occasional group of
Native Americans, who all joined together in their hate of the British. The hate alone was not enough
to give the Patriot s victory and a wide range of shortcomings and failures made this body of men
ineffective. This ragtag group of individuals had very little equipment to start with. Most of the men
would bring their own firearms from home, but they had little in terms of normal materials for an
army camp, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The redcoats were supposedly the more disciplined, experienced and accoutred side, but their actions
and decisions, once carefully analyzed, suggest that their superiority was not as clear as it seems. One
lapse of judgement for the British was their mistreatment of the colonists. In a similar situation as at
the outbreak of the civil war, during the Siege of Boston the regulars would embarrass plunder every
one s house and store who leaves the town and even some of the civilians who stayed. This turned
many of the locals who were undecided about the war against the regulars, and they would flee the
city and often join the Patriot

Caffeine Argument Analysis
In the world of health one well known controversy is whether or not caffeine is good for you or if it
has any nutritional value. On the pro side of the argument, many doctors have performed new studies
showing that caffeine has a lot of positive effects on our health such as reducing the risk of skin cancer
which was confirmed in an experiment done by Erikka Loftfield MPH. Based on my research I ve
found that studies also show that caffeine has been shown to enhance both physical and cognitive
performance in younger adults , as stated by M. J. Duncan in a study done in 2014. Sheena Derry s
studies from the University of Oxford show us that caffeine is a great remedy for pain relief and
migraines. Registered dietician Keri Glassman stated in an interview that caffeine can help prevent
well known diseases such as diabetes and Parkinson s. And lastly, in an article written by Sara Altshul
claims have been made that based on a study done in July 2015, caffeine can help improve your
memory. On the con side of the argument many doctors and journalists ... Show more content on

great caffeine can be for you. I never realized that we could actually help ourselves prevent common

too. I knew I was not very educated in the subject so it wasn t very hard to change my mind. I was
only basing my beliefs off of common misconceptions but am extremely glad I got to read into the
matter. I do believe caffeine is good for us, in moderation of course, but absolutely good for us. I

Pine Creek Rail Trail Case Study
This 8.7 mile section of the Pine Creek Rail Trail starts at Stokesdale Junction, a hub for local
railroads in the late 1800 s. It follows the original rail bed along the Jersey Shore, Pine Creek, and
Buffalo Railway, which traveled from Lyons, NY above Geneva, NY to Jersey Shore, Pa (168.55
miles). The ownership of this branch of the railroad changed hands several times over the next
decades and eventually merged with the New York Central line in 1914, where it remained until

Alka Seltzer Research Paper
Alka Seltzer is a medicine that acts as a pain reliever and an antacid. Antacids are used to help
neutralize the acids in the stomach and help treat acid reflux, heartburn, indigestion, and gastritis. The
tablets contain sodium bicarbonate (NaHCO3) and citric acid (C6H8O7). The sodium bicarbonate is a
base that helps neutralize the acids in the stomach, mainly hydrochloric acid (HCl). It does this by the
following reaction: Na3C3H5O7(aq) + 3HCl(aq) H3C3H5O7(aq) + 3NaCl(aq). When the tablets are
dropped into the water, a reaction occurs in which water (H2O), sodium citrate (Na3C6H5O7), and
carbon dioxide (CO2) are formed.
Gastritis, one of the conditions Alka Seltzer helps treat, occurs when the stomach lining is damaged or
weak. There are

both the frequency and percentage for the marital status mode for both groups.
The mode for both the experimental and control groups is married with 25 and 78.1% of the
experimental group being married and 31 and 86.1% of the control group being married. 7. Could a
median be determined for the education data? If so, what would the median be for education for the
experimental and the control groups? Provide a rationale for your answer.
For the education data, I must say to calculate the median, from high school to college graduate, the
median would be the some college portion since it would be the middle. The median for the
experimental group would be 11 and 34.4% and for the control group it would be 15 and 41.7%. 8.
Can the findings from this study be generalized to Black women? Provide a rationale for your answer.
No, because the mode in this study shows to be White women. There is only 1 Black woman in the
experimental group and none in the control group, therefore statistically, it could not be generalized to
Black women. 9. If there were 32 subjects in the experimental group and 36 subjects in the control

main reason is because of dead photoreceptors, which make electrical signals when hit by photons of

Descriptive Essay About The Winter Concert
The sound of a dying cow, croaking its last breath . That was what my dad called the sound of me
playing my clarinet. Don t get me wrong, I love playing the clarinet and always tried my best, but 3rd
grade me was not that talented. To specify, I sounded truly horrible. All the beginner band students
(including me) had thought they were the best of the best. The greatest musicians in the world. Of
course, as you may know, 1st year players were nowhere near perfect no less professionals. And this
leads me to my school first concert of the year; The Winter Concert. We could not call it the Christmas
concert as I went to a public school. This was even though 95% of the kids were Christian/White and
most of the songs we sang and played were Christmas jingles. So, to continue, one of the songs we
played other than the obvious jingle bells, was hot cross buns. Clearly no concert is perfect and by far,
we screwed it up. By the end, none of the parents watching could tell the difference between the song
and the squeaks that were over powering the song . To conclude the concert, everyone s parents came
up to each of their sweet little kids and gave them flowers, hugs, and kisses. Mine came over and said,
You guys sounded like a herd being led to the slaughter house . Nah, just kidding said they loved it.
Their inner thoughts may have been a little different though. My 7th birthday was the first birthday I
actually celebrated with invited friends. Of course my parents were cheap and we had it at the park
instead of places like funtopia or chuckee cheeses, but it was fine. Really it was JUST FINE! I AM
NOT MAD! Just joking, I actually really enjoyed it. Most of the kids just came for the free pizza and
goodie bags at the end, but didn t we all at one point. I remember one time a group of me and my
friends went to this B day party of a girl we all hated... and avoided her the entire time! Ahhh, the
good old days where every kid was a bull, even to their fake friends, and no one got in trouble. Back
to what I was saying, so my party was all yay yay glitter, pink, sparkles, etc. until my brothers came.

narrator being sane by saying how calmly i can tell you the whole story. (pg 56) and following this the
narrator said i loved the old man. Never given me an insult. (pg 56). Putting that quote in explains
how he loves the man and that the old man would never do anything to him. The narrator starts telling

Heterophile Isolation Lab Report
Heterophile isolation
Polymorphonuclear heterophils were isolated from normal chicken using a modification of previously
described procedures(Andreasen et al., 1991; Brooks et al., 1996). In brife ,whole venous blood was
collected in sodium citrate (0.129 M; pH 6.5; 9:1,v/v). The blood was diluted in RPMI 1640 (1:1) on a

Literary Devices In The Game By Donald Barthelme
In every story, there are many things to analyze. In Game by Donald Barthelme, he shows us the way
our minds start to work in stressful situations like how the narrator and Shotwell started to respond
while controlling the console for the war. In Game the narrator s name is never told, Shotwell and the
narrator do not trust each other, but are left alone together and trusted to kill the other if they start to
behave strangely, although it is never clarified what counts as strange and what counts as normal.
Various literary devices are used throughout the story to show us Barthelme s intended theme, some
used are: repetition, symbolism, irony, and figurative language. Barthelme uses repetition to show how
the narrator s mind is deteriorating while being confined in a small space, isolated from everyone
except someone he does not know, with very little instruction about what to do. A lot of what the
narrator repeats throughout the story are what makes us, as the readers, believe that his mind is
deteriorating. For example, when he repeats that they have been there for one hundred thirty three
days, Barthelme is showing how the narrator is counting the days to keep himself reminded. Although,
it starts to make him question how long he and Shotwell will be in isolation and it starts to make him
think differently about his situation and he starts to realize and focus on about how they are both
unwell. Another way Barthelme uses repetition is when the readers are

Live Free Or Die By Saul Bellow
Live Free or Die. These words spoken by General John Stark in 1809 echoed across our country
during the time of America s early existence and still resonate with our citizens today in the early
twenty first century. Freedom is a right on which our country was founded and that many Americans
have fought to protect and preserve over the past two centuries. As such, to speak illy of freedom
would be blasphemous; however, that is exactly what Saul Bellow does throughout his literature. Saul
Bellow was a decorated American Canadian writer who published numerous books throughout the
20th century winning awards that spanned from the Pulitzer Prize to the Nobel Prize for Literature. He

Throughout all three of his novels, Bellow fostered a close relationship between his main character
and one of their family members through the implementation of various types of literary devices in
Dangling Man, he does so with Joseph s wife. This bond between both characters was demonstrated
when Joseph purposely with held information from his spouse Iva to spare her rather than [sparing
himself] (Dangling Man, 199). Bellow implemented this action to symbolize their relationship and the
love he felt towards her. In this scene, Joseph showed that he cared enough about his wife to try and
protect her from the truth and would sacrifice his own peace of mind rather than her s. As such,
Bellow forced the reader to recognize the that a Joseph and Iva had a very close relationship through
marriage. In the forefront of Seize the Day, Tommy is addressing his relationship with his father when
he was younger and stated that [he] could turn to him in a time of crisis or need (Seize the Day, 15).
Bellow placed this specific line in the beginning of the novel to symbolize the trust that Tommy and
his father once shared and to verify existence of their relationship. Bellow further bolsters the
existence of their relationship later in the novel when Tommy shares with the reader the fact that they
have the same name. This is a special bond held between a son and a father that is passed down from

I have learned this value from a young age as I was always taught to show respect to others to gain
respect back, such as talking politely to my teachers at school. This value I hold relates to my
workplaces value; to create a positive ethos whereby everyone in our school community is valued. The
school implements this by making sure all children are able to learn, grow and develop to their best of
their ability regardless of any abilities of the child which may inhibit learning; such as a learning
disability, all the children are treated with the same amount of respect and dignity, such as all the
children s views are taken into account. Both these values fall under the National Care Standard of
dignity which states; be treated with dignity and respect at all times and enjoy full range of social
relationships . This means that all individuals regardless of any protected characteristics must be
treated with the same respect and dignity as others in society; an example can be asking the service

The Hero, Scapegoat, And Innocent Youth Archetypes In Lord...
Although Ralph shows good leadership skills, he also has weaknesses like everyone else. In the novel
Lord of the Flies by William Golding, Ralph portrays the Hero, Scapegoat, and Innocent Youth
Archetypes. Ralph demonstrates the Hero Archetype when he becomes chief, when he helps build
shelters to sleep in, when he stood up to Jack, when he went to look for the beast, and lastly when he
tried to help Piggy get his specs back. Ralph also demonstrates the Scapegoat Archetype when he was
attacked, when he was hiding from the savages, when he was seen by a savage and got frightened, and
when he realized he lost his innocence. Ralph s innocent youth is also shown when Ralph squirted
water at Piggy, when he imagined the group being rescued, and when he asked a question he already
knew the answer to.
Ralph s leadership and help he offers to everyone in the group clearly shows his connection to the
Hero Archetype. Ralph wanting to be chief and being chosen to be chief by the group, Who wants me?
Every hand outside the choir...was raised immediately... Ralph counted. I m chief then. (Golding 19).
This shows Ralph s heroism because everyone voted for him to be chief and he wanted to take that
leadership role to guide the group. Ralph helped the group build shelters and he built the most, We all
built the first one, four of us the second, and me n Simon built the last one... (Golding 85). This shows
how Ralph is a hero because he is doing his fair share of work and more, for the benefit of others.
When Ralph stood up to Jack because Jack was going against Ralph and challenging his position as
leader. Ralph said to him, Why do you hate me? (Golding 129). This shows Ralphs heroism because
he chose to show bravery rather than coware like a hero would. When the group was worried about the
beast and Ralph was reassuring them and offered to go look for the beast. The group was talking about
the beast and Ralph said, We ll go and look. (Golding 133). This shows how Ralph connects to
heroism because he made a selfless act that would put his life at risk for the sake of others. When Jack
took Piggy s specs and Ralph tried to help Piggy get them back. Ralph said to Jack, ...You ve got to
give them back. (Golding 195).

known for having the highest dropout rate and the lowest college graduation rate. I could help the
Lumbee Tribe change their statistics of Lumbee Indians attending a four year university. Overall,

Sullivan Airport Research Paper
If you have ever passed through Sullivan Illinois, or live in Sullivan, I am sure you went over railroad
tracks and thought how can these be in this bad of condition? Sullivan is a very small city with a
population of 4,400 people. There are a lot of people passing through Sullivan every day. On their way
to school, work, to the store, or just passing through. For the most part people would have to go over a
railroad track to get anywhere and they are in very poor conditions. There is no bypass to get around
them so it backs up cars, and it doesn t help the trains take around five or more minutes to pass; along
with this I think it is very unsafe for people to drive on, walk over, and cross them. In Sullivan, there
are two railroads, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is a serious problem for some people who do not know what the tracks are like and do not know
how slow to go over them. This could cause many accidents and sometimes even serious injuries.
Every time someone drives over a railroad they should not have to slow to down to ten miles an hour
or slower. Yes, it is a good idea too and is safer, but what if they were smooth and flat and people
could just keep going the speed limit. It would make things more efficient and faster to get to places.
If the driver goes too fast over the tracks it could damage their car because the railroad is not flat. For
instance, on my way to school, I have to go over a railroad track and it is in terrible condition. There
are no meters to know if a train is coming, one of the lights are out also to know when a train is
coming, it is so bumpy even going slow doesn t help, I jerk back and forth, and drivers cannot see if
there is oncoming traffic because the tracks are elevated higher than the rest of the road. An easy way
to solve this is lower the tracks to the same level as the road to where it is flat. People walking could
see oncoming traffic and have a better understanding of where to walk. Another way to solve this is
get new tracks to lie on the road. A few years ago, Sullivan got new tracks near where the highway
crosses them in the middle of town and it is so much smoother and easier to drive over then most of
the railroads in town. It might cost some money, but I think it is something the city of Sullivan should
invest

Catcher In The Rye Ego Essay
In the book, The Catcher in the Rye, is is clearly shown that certain tragic events can affects the
growth of one s maturity. Essentially leading to mental breakdowns and in holden s case, put him in a
mental intuition. Holden s younger brothers premature passing inflicts a cynical view on the world
around him and shows that he is terrified about growing up. He becomes disappointed with the
interactions that he has with other people and his lack of social interest shows he does not know how
to empathize with for others. His cynical views make him inferior even though he wants to be
superior. This would essentially be summed up into what is known as an existential crisis. Holden

(Salinger 78). Holden is well aware that he has hurt her. He also not admittingly makes a mental not
that you cannot do as you please in this world. In a conversation between Holden and Spencer, Holden
is lectured about the importance of playing by the rules. Spencer, his former history teacher at Pencey,
explains that life should be played by the rules. and calls life a game. To himself, Holden goes on to
say, Game, my ass. Some game. If you get on the side where all the hot shots are, then it s a game, all
right I ll admit that. But if you get on the other side, where there aren t any hot shots, then what s a

already expresses that he is a lost cause and does not know what to do with his life. It seems as though

Sigmund Freud And The Grinch
Sigmund Freud who was an Austrian neurologist believes that personality consists of three interacting
structures: the id, the ego, and the superego. The Grinch was a very angry person, he had
demonstrated so much aggression towards the who s which lead to the destruction of the who s
Christmas. The fact that his desire was to ruin the who s Christmas proves that he is a heartless human
being. The id demands immediate satisfaction and when this happens we experience pleasure, when it
is denied we experience pain. The Grinch has had a rough childhood. As a child he did not fit in,
because of his looks, as he was just different from others. His miserable childhood is the true cause of
his aggression. This is where his id takes over. The Grinch

The Rebellion Of The Romanov Dynasty
O n March 2nd 1917, the rule of a 300 year old dynasty was laid to rest as Tsar Nicholas II signed his
warrant for abdication, officially sanctioning the end of the Romanov Dynasty. The immediate cause
permitting this action was the success of the February Revolution however; this event evolved because
of several internal and external factors, both long and short term in nature. Predominant among all we
recognise the perpetuation of an outdated system of rule, the repercussions of rapid industrialisation,
emerging doctrines of liberalism, political inflexibility and the vices imposed by the First World War.
These factors progressively embellished societal discontent among the Russian people and inexorably
stimulated the insurrection of the February Revolution. The means by which Nicholas II sought to rule
as Tsar as well as his intrinsic characteristics played a significant role in the occurrence of Revolution
in 1917. Nicholas was conservative by nature. His insufficient leadership tuition, brought about by his
unexpected ascendance to power in 1894, forced his unwavering reliance on the systems established
by his predecessors. Nicholas was a man of weak fortitude, his poor decisions and miscalculations
throughout his reign owe much to his personality. I pity the Tsar. I pity Russia. He is a poor and
unhappy sovereign...He is obviously a good and quite intelligent man, but he lacks will power, and it
is from that character that his state defects developed, that is, his

Agricultural Subsidy Programs And The United States
Agricultural Problem Solving:
Are Farm Subsidies Working in the United States?
Christopher J. May
Baker College Abstract
The purpose of this paper is to present an analysis of the history and current state of agricultural
subsidy programs in the United States. The original intent of these programs are discussed and
compared to the current use and distribution of federal resources to identify inefficiencies and
potential areas for improvements. In addition to the financial and economic effects of agricultural
subsidies, the factors of social welfare and impact on consumers nutrition and health are discussed
along with efficiency improvements that could better allocate taxpayer dollars to farms in need and
crops that contribute more to social welfare and the health of society as a whole. Agricultural Problem
Solving:
Are Farm Subsidies Working in the United States?
Introduction
Beginning in the 1930s, agricultural subsidy programs were established in the United States to address
the issues of inelastic supply and demand of the agriculture market along with the nature of the
industry that faces uncertain performance in terms of production and demand, which can vary greatly
from year to year (Urry, 2015). Through several reiterations of government policy surrounding these
subsidy payments, the majority of direct payments are now being received by large, for profit farming
companies (Urry, 2015), further incentivizing them to mass produce crops easily grown and

Biology Heat Loss Practical Write Up
Biology Coursework Practical – Heat Loss The aim of this practical is to find to what extent does the
surface area to volume ratio of an object affect the rate of heat loss from the object Hypothesis: As the
ratio of surface area to volume of an object decreases the rate of heat loss from the object will also
decrease. Objects with the same surface area to volume ratios loose heat at the same rate so long as
there are not other variables involved. Background Knowledge: The surface area to volume ratio of an
object is determined by dividing the surface area by the volume and putting it into a ratio of one. e.g.
A flask of volume 200cm3 and a surface area of 160cm2 will have a surface area to volume ratio of:

One the flasks have been filled they will be heated to get the water to 90oC. Once the flasks are both
at 90oC bungs will be placed in the top which have thermometers running through them. Using these
thermometers the temperature will be recorded every 30 seconds for 20 minutes. This will then be
repeated. The experiment is repeated to improve the accuracy of the data. In order to ensure a fair test
the experiment will be started at the same temperature each time and will also be allowed to run for
the same length of time. Also the depth of the thermometers in each flask will remain constant for both
tests. The volume of water will be as equal as possible in both experiments however due to human
inaccuracy it is unlikely that the volumes will be exactly the same. Hopefully any variations between
experiments will be so small as to be of no consequence. At the end of the experiment the results will
be plotted in a table and the average results will be calculated and plotted on a comparative graph so
that it is possible to see any variations between the two sets of data. Results: Minutes Temp 100cm3 1

Importance Of Three Texts In The Death Of The Ball Turret...
Walt Disney, a very famous animation creator said, There is more treasure in books than in all the
pirate s loot on Treasure Island. Books have influenced mankind in multiple different ways. Books,
such as the Bible and the Koran, have not only changes people s religious perspective, but have also
helped people s live have more meaning. Books tell a story that a reader is able to envision in his or
her mind easily. This semester in Room 303, Mr. McGee has studied many texts with his students. So,
when asked the question of which three texts were the most important, one may not know how to
respond. After close examination and careful thinking, however, it is obvious what three texts must be
the most important. In, The Death of the Ball Turret Gunner, Jarrell proves that his story is important
by portraying the message that war is more brutal than many people think, so it is important to respect
those who fight for a country. He explained how men constantly risk their lives and complete
dangerous missions everyday just for the sake of their country. This author writes of a very brutal war
time. He describes an event that most readers would not understand without prior knowledge or a
historic background. Jarrell writes, From my mother s sleep I fell into the State... (1). These men, who
are hanging upside down for nearly eight hours a day, had adapted the ability to sleep while they were

Verse 8 The Odyssey
The next section is composed of verses seven through ten. This section is summarized by God
commissioning Moses, saving the Israelites from their oppressors in Egypt, and taking them to the

down to rescue them from the hand of the Egyptians and to bring them up out of that land into a good
and spacious land, a land flowing with milk and honey the home of the Canaanites, Hittites, Amorites,

This section is about how Moses begins to question his role and how God s presence will be with him
throughout the Exodus. Out of this subsection of verses, verse twelve and fourteen standout. Verse
twelve reads and God said, I will be with you. And this will be the sign to you that it is I who have
sent you: When you have brought the people out of Egypt, you will worship God on this mountain.
(BibleGateway). This is important because, yet again, we see God continuing to keep his covenant
with Abraham by providing his presence for Moses. In the verse before this we see Moses began to
question God and fight the calling that God had placed on him. God is also telling Moses that he will
not deliver the Israelites by himself, or on his own accord. He will do it by God s encouragement and
strength. This is God telling Moses to have faith in him. The second half of the verse is pertaining to
the idea of coming back to the mount. This is important because God says that the people will come
back to this mount and worship him. A commentary reads, for Mount Horeb is not situated on the
direct road from Egypt to Canaan will serve as a sign that to you that the deliverance of the children of
Israel from the hand of the Egyptians was decreed by Me, and the implementation of what the decree
is beyond all doubt (Cassuto 12). The fact that God is telling Moses that he will be back is to show
Moses that not only has he kept

Saussure And The Grammatical Structure Of The Language
Saussure makes a distinction between the system of language, which he calls langue, and the
manifestation of that system, which he calls parole. Langue is the grammatical structure of the
language, as well as the definition of the relationships of the various elements of that language with
each other, whereas parole is essentially the way people express themselves.
Malinowski, Jakobson and others hold a contrasting view to that of Saussure. They contend that
context is an important factor in the definition of the meaning of language. A statement, spoken in real
life, is never detached from the situation in which it has been uttered...a word without linguistic
context is a mere figment and stands for nothing by itself, so in the reality of a spoken living tongue,
the utterance has no meaning except in the context of situation (Malinowski, p. 307). Therefore,
sentences do not have an independent meaning outside of context, as Saussure claims, but are simply
symbols that represent an idea. This theory is known as Pragmatic Linguistics. Its purpose is to study
the effect of context on the meaning of language. Those who adhere to this view maintain that
meaning depends on the status of both the speaker and the listener, on the context in which they are
placed, on any implied intent on the part of the speaker and not on the linguistic structure, such as
grammar. For example, a statement such as Go ahead could mean: You may proceed, You may start
the race, You may continue

Importance of Setting in The Luxe
It was the old New York way...the way of people who dreaded scandal more than disease, who placed
decency about courage, and who considered that nothing was more ill bred than scenes, except the
behavior of those who gave rise to them (Wharton, Prologue). Because every time period has different
beliefs and traditions, setting is vital to a novel. In The Luxe, the young and determined socialites
lives are greatly affected by the setting. In this novel, teenage elites struggle to decide whether they
should follow society s rules or their hearts. One such example is when a socialite, Elizabeth Holland,
falls in love with a coachman. Since her family is in debt, Elizabeth s mother wants her to marry

Eisen (2014) describes that wearing these clothes helps children meet friends without the fear of being
left out or unwanted; walking down the halls with brand name items makes teens more confident in
themselves:
If a teen sees another teen wearing one of their favorite brands they are more likely to strike up a
conversation. Even if you are shy, you will be much more self assured because you know you have
something in common with another person, their fashion. Self esteem is a huge part of being a
teenager, so a small boost in confidence could have a tremendous effect.
What teens wear identify them as belonging to specific cliques or groups who wear similar apparel.
Having this confidence helps children try new things without a fear of rejection. It will give them a
sense of belonging and togetherness with other students, and they will feel included and wanted which
is essential to a teen s self esteem (Faber Media, 2014). In middle school and high school teens need a
feeling of belonging and clothing with name brands helps bring them closer together. Teisha Vonique
Hood from SMU (2012) stated that when people associate themselves with a particular brand or
branded image, they immediately assume a new identity that is in some sense, confined to the social
points of that brand. When people wear a certain brand they are telling people they like that company
and what it conveys. Children know that a certain brand could make them popular or

Aryan Race And The Holocaust
The Holocaust is most often associated with the slaughter of millions of Jewish people. However they
are not the only ones to be brutally murdered. In order to fit in with Hitler s Aryan Race , one must be
blond, blue eyed, German and essentially perfect. For Hitler, that meant that people with disabilities
were to be slaughtered as well as sterilized. Some of the first to be exterminated are the mentally,
physically and emotionally disabled. He used propaganda to make the Germans okay with it. Parents
were told their children passed away from their disabilities. When he actually had them experimented
on, murdered, and wiped off the face of the earth. He wanted to clean the gene pool. As soon as Hitler
came into power in 1933, the

Primary Care Gatekeeping
Gatekeeping is a core concept in a primary health care (Grumbach et al.,1998). One of the several key
aspects of gatekeeping is to guard patients that have direct access to specialised care (Bodenheimer
Grumbach,2009). General practitioners and other primary care professionals are signified to be
gatekeepers (World Health Organisation,2000). Starfield.B (1992), Grumbach Fry (1993) and
Bodenheimer Grumbach (2009) points out responsibilities of primary care professions (gatekeeper)
first, they are to encounter the patient s health care (Starfield B.,1992) and proceed ambulatory care
(Grumbach and Fry,1993). A gatekeeper is the decision maker for opening the gates to a further
specialised field after proceeding fundamental primary care on a patient hence, patients are not
entitled to direct their own specialists. Also, their purposes are not just to take care of the patient s
wellbeing but giving extensive treatment if any is required (World Health Organisation, 2000) such as,
minor illness which includes skin disorders, respiratory infection, headache and common flu, also
includes preventive care; vaccinations, immunization and prenatal care are some of the common
examples (Heinemann,1980). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Summary Of Girl By Jamacia Kincaid
When a text is first being dissected it is important to walk in to the situation prepared. To be prepared
you must go into the situation equipped with your own interpretation as to what constitutes literature.
The definition of literature isn t very concise. Like art the definition of literature can vary from one
individual to another and before studying these subjects the audience should establish their own
definition so that they can look for themes and symbols in the piece. In my opinion I believe that
literature should be defined as any fictitious work that implements symbols, and other literary devices,
to convey different themes and messages below the surface of the text. With this interpretation of
literature I think that its purpose is to give the audience insight into the lives of others and make
statements about our society. When readers study literature in this manner they are able to view our
society from an outside perspective and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This story follows the story of a daughter whose mother is worried that she is currently on the path to
promiscuity. Throughout the story the mother encourages her daughter to change her ways so that she
will grow up to be a respectable woman, rather than becoming as her mother says, the slut that you are
bent on becoming, (Kincaid 23). In this piece of literature the mother versus the whore dichotomy is
very prevalent. In this text the mother is very adamant about teaching her daughter how to be the
mother character rather than the whore by teaching her the etiquette and the social graces that come
along with being a homemaker. ...always eat your food in such a way that it won t turn someone else s
stomach; on Sunday s try to walk like a lady and not like the slut that you are bent on becoming,
(Kincaid 23). This quote is an example of the behavior that the mother is trying to instill in her
daughter so that she will have a successful

Race Is The Most Complex Word Of The World
Throughout my research, the one thing that I am certain of is that the term race is the most complex
word in the world. To this day, many people are divided on whether Race is a real concept. Race has
many definitions, but the way I believe most people define it in today s society is A group or set of
people or things with a common feature or features. Most people including myself confuse the word
Race with Ethnicity. However, the two words are very different. The definition of Ethnicity is the fact
or state of belonging to a social group that has a common national or cultural tradition. The two words
are distinguished from one another by their meanings. One of them represents outer appearances of
populations and the other represents the cultural views of populations.
Many things led up to classifying people into races . One of the most significant is slavery. However,
when slavery began it was not considered slavery, but thought of more as an institution. In the New
World, all types of people including Irish, Indians, Africans, and Englishmen were slaves. The
environment was cruel and harsh, but if they survived their time of up to seven years, they were set
free and able to own land and their own slaves. During this time, it was the wealthy society vs. the
poor society. People were not treated unfairly because of the color of their skin but rather treated
unfairly because of their social status. The economy took a turn for the worst when more men became

Romeo And Juliet Not In Love
In the timeless tale of romeo and juliet, Two young lovers from feuding families have a whirlwind
love affair. they meet at a party, flirt and secretly marry in the time period of a day. hours later they are
separated, and desperate attempt to be together, they miscommunicate their escape plan and end up
killing themselves because they can not live without each other. I believe there relationship is
infatuation because you can not fall in love how fast they did. Although many people will see romeo
and juliet s passionate affection at true love it is best described as infatuation
if romeo and juliet are not in love then why would they have committed suicide over each other.
Although this may be true but if you think about it you can not love someone if you don t know them
and you can t argue that they got to know each other because you can not get to know someone that
faston page it states that romeo and juliet where only together for one less than two days. another
words romeo and juliet could have not got to know each other in less than two days and if you don t
know someone you can t have love for them. one of the two could be a killer and they don t know it
because they haven t had much time to talk. some people might say for the little time they did get to
talk they fell in love however they only had a few hours to talk and if you fall in love with someone in
a few hours and get married in one day and live happily ever after then you can make that argument. ...

Show more

Lord Of The Flies Lomb Song Analysis
This song depicts how the boys felt when they first arrived at the island. They saw that there were no
adults and were excited about all the fun they were planning to have together and without parental
supervision. The song paints an island in a positive light saying that it s a paradise, just like the boy s
original fantasies.
Welcome to the Jungle Guns and Roses
This song relates to Lord of the Flies by showing how the boys slowly became more and more like
animals. In the beginning, things were great. The boys had fun, swam, and ate fruit under Ralph s
leadership. But as Jack s obsession with hunting became unmanageable and he replaced himself as the
new leader of the new tribe , the boys became more and more savage. This chaos and destructive
behavior is modeled in Welcome to the Jungle by lyrics such as welcome to the jungle, it gets worse
here everyday, Ya learn to act like an animal.
Mob song Beauty and the Beast
The mob song from the movie Beauty and the Beast is very similar to the boys ritualistic hunting
dance. They both have a leader Gaston/Jack who urge on the mob to kill the beast.
Gaston and Jack understand that fear can perpetuate a mob mentality that is easily controlled through
a form of frightened excitement and through the absence of light. That is why both Simon and Piggy
both died at the hand of the tribe. The Mob Song uses imagery of darkness and shadow, much like the
novel and both a fueled by a frenzied excitement from the mobs.
Ralph A character Sketch
One of the main characters in Lord of the Flies, Ralph is one of the oldest bigguns on the island. His
good looks and confident demeanor quickly makes him the obvious leader to the boys. Although he
lacks Piggy s apparent intelligence, Ralph is relatively logical and responsible, with sound judgment
and a firm moral scale. But, like the other boys, he can fall into the same entraping instincts that affect
the other boys, as demonstrated by his part Simon s murder.
Regardless, Ralph remains the most civilized character throughout the novel, save for Piggy. At the
end of the novel, it was somewhat tragic because Ralph finally understands that evil lives inside of all
the boys. This leaves him depressed

What Does Mrs. Flowers Symbolize
Mrs. Flowers (from I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings) Lyrics
Mrs. Bertha Flowers was the aristocrat of Black Stamps. She had the grace of control to appear warm
in the coldest weather, and on the Arkansas summer days it seemed she had a private breeze which
swirled around, cooling her. She was thin without the taut look of wiry people, and her printed voile
dresses and flowered hats were as right for her as denim overalls for a farmer. She was our side s
answer to the richest white woman in town.
Her skin was a rich black that would have peeled like a plum if snagged, but then no one would have
thought of getting close enough to Mrs. Flowers to ruffle her dress, let alone snag her skin. She didn t
encourage familiarity. She wore gloves too. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The teachers report that they have trouble getting you to talk in class. We passed the triangular farm
on our left and the path widened to allow us to walk together. I hung back in the separate unasked and
unanswerable questions.
Come and walk along with me, Marguerite. I couldn t have refused even if I wanted to. She
pronounced my name so nicely. Or more correctly, she spoke each word with such clarity that I was
certain a foreigner who didn t understand English could have understood her.
Now no one is going to make you talk possibly no one can. But bear in mind, language is man s way
of communicating with his fellow man and it is language alone which separates him from the lower
animals. That was a totally new idea to me, and I would need time to think about it.
Your grandmother says you read a lot. Every chance you get. That s good, but not good enough.
Words mean more than what is set down on paper. It takes the human voice to infuse them with the
shades of deeper meaning.
I memorized the part about the human voice infusing words. It seemed so valid and poetic.

The Importance Of Abolishing The Penny
Ever since we were in elementary school, we learned of the six coins that we all use for transactions:
the penny, nickel, dime, quarter, fifty cent and dollar coin. While we rarely ever see the fifty cent or
dollar coin, the penny is one of the most widely recognizable and minted coin in the United States,
accounting for almost 55% of the coins minted every year. But the growing debate of keeping or
abolishing the penny has become a real hot pot between the two sides. This essay will side with the
abolishment of the penny and go into detail as to why it should be abolished. Many bills have been
proposed as of late but none was as head turning as US Rep. Jim Kolbe with his anti penny bill back
in 2001 and 2006. The bill, in simpler terms,

  • 2. Social Civilization In Korea The Japanese colonization of Korea made Koreans an easy target of exploitation. Since Japan was in a great need of cheap labor, Korean workers were recruited during 1920s. In this essay, I am going to discuss the significance of institutional racial discrimination targeted towards Korean workers in interwar Japan as a tool of alienation and exploitation. One of the abiding discernments formed in Karl Marx s Capital is that in the colonies of capitalist nation states the apparitions of the law of the supply and demand of labor are crushed. In the home country, the magnificent allurement of capitalist production can be found in its capability to reproduce the wage laborer by regularly setting him or her free, firing him or her and by creating a surplus population that rests in approximate exteriority to capitalist manufacturing as the prerequisite for the commodification of labor power. Regularly handling labor power as a expendable commodity is hence the way capitalist manufacturing can assure that its most nonexpendable commodity labor power is constantly there by the time capitalist manufacturing encounters so called labor shortages during industrial expansion. It is this reproductive apparatus that enables the smug knavery of the Japanese colonial policymaker to envision and to formalize into normalized principles of economic shift, that owners of labor power who are de facto impelled to enter into a relationship of reliance with the wage form can take part in ... • 3. Hezbolah Research Paper Hezbollah originated from a group of Lebanese Shi ite Muslims from Iran. Traditionally, they were the weakest religious group in Lebanon. Hezbollah is a militia and political party that started as a small group following the Israeli invasion of Lebanon in 1982. It is a group that Europe and the United States consider a terrorist group. November 22, 1943 Lebanon declared independence. Quickly after, the small country saw its authority being threatened by a group who is financed by Iran. In a video created by the Israel Defense Security it explains how Iran dictates the actions of Hezbollah. Hezbollah, a state within a state, is named a party of god . The goal of Hezbollah was to separate Israel from Lebanon and create an Islamic state. Hezbollah has attacked Israel countless times and they also fought in Lebanon s civil war from 1975 1990. The Ta if agreement ended the war and this is when Hezbollah became a top leader in politics. In 1992 the group was granted eight seats in the parliament. • 4. Relational Database Model And Key Value Store Data Model... COMPARISON OF RELATIONAL DATABASE MODEL AND KEY VALUE STORE DATA MODEL OF NO SQL DATABASE SYSTEM: The Relational database system and the key value store model of No SQL database systems are both appropriate database methods depending on the way they are being implemented and the purpose of the business for which they are being incorporated. However, both the database approaches have distinct wide variety of characteristics, based on which they can be compared and contrasted in the following way. STRUCTURE OF DATA: The data structure of a relational database comprises of table structure. Every table is identified by a unique name or label. The data tables are described as the collection of rows and columns. Each row of the table is known as the record and each column is known as the field of the specific data table. All the data sets are well organized and logical linked to each other through definite and unique relationships. A table, therefore can also be defined as the structured collection of relationships . The fundamental aim of developing No SQL database systems is to easily and effectively handle vast quantities of data or information in advanced web scale applications. In order to achieve this purpose, the No SQL systems are designed as the schema free database systems. There are different modes to define the No SQL databases that typically depend on the requirements of the data that has to be managed. The data model for key value store No SQL database is ... • 5. Summary Of Incidents In The Life Of A Slave Girl Incidents in the Life of a Slave Girl is a slave narrative written by Harriet Jacobs, and was published by Barnes Noble Classics in New York City circa 2005. The book is an autobiography of Jacob s life, however she uses a sort of code name, which is Linda Brent. Summary Linda Brent was born to slaves, but she was unaware that she was a slave until she was about six years old. Her father was a carpenter by trade, and he was quite good at it. During the first six years of Linda s life things were normal, and William, her younger brother, and she lived a happy life. Nevertheless, when she turned six things changed for the worse. Linda and William s mother had died that year, and that was when she finally understood who she was, a slave. After the tragic death, Linda was taken under her mother s mistress s wing. Even though her mother had died, her new mistress filled the void and became her second mom. Linda had a great six or so years with her mother s old mistress and her new mistress, but she too tragically died. This left Linda with a new mistress, and this one was only five years old, so in reality she was the property of her masters, and his name was Dr. Flint. Dr. Flint purchased Linda and her brother William, and he was a very cruel ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The book was well written in chronological order, which made for an easy read. This book is extremely enjoyable and telling, and it allows readers to find themselves really sympathizing and empathizing with Linda and her family. The one thing that I think Jacobs could have done differently is not using different names for the characters. To me the book would have been a thousand times more personable had she chosen to use her real name, and her family s real names. However that does not in anyway take away from the power and sadness that her personal story ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Back then, the girls of the family were to be married off to someone of the parents choosing without consent from the daughter. They worked at an experimental animal laboratory at Vanderbilt University. It was in Nashville, Tennessee. Due to the circumstances of racism at the time, he was classified as just a janitor. By the mid 1930s, they began experimental work in vascular and cardiac surgery. This defied medical taboos against operating on the heart. A decade later, this work would see them saving a life at Johns Hopkins. While doing this work, Alfred and Vivien would give dogs the blue baby syndrome. They did this so that they could figure out ways to cure the blue baby syndrome. They did surgery on dog s hearts in hopes it would reverse the effects and save them from dying. By 1940, Blalock was offered the position of Chief of Surgery. He requested that Thomas would accompany him. In infants that have blue baby syndrome, blood is shunted past the lungs and it deprives them of oxygen. This is also why they turn blue. To cure this defect, it was suggested that it might be possible to reconnect the pipes in some kind of way. This would be done to increase the level of blood flow to the lungs. • 8. Boston Red Patriots Essay Founded on September 7th, 1630, Boston was one of the largest cities in North America, and was also a hotbed for revolutionary Patriots in the late 1700 s. Yet very little meaningful fighting happened around this area, despite its size, and the some 28,000 men in and around it. It was because of the Continental Army s lack of discipline, trained officers and adequate equipment, and the British force s laziness around orders and lack of enthusiasm for going on the offensive that made the Siege of Boston an avoidable, and pointless stalemate. On one side of the siege, were the Patriots who made up the young and scrappy Continental Army, a mixture of untrained northern militias, southern auxiliary infantry units, and the occasional group of Native Americans, who all joined together in their hate of the British. The hate alone was not enough to give the Patriot s victory and a wide range of shortcomings and failures made this body of men ineffective. This ragtag group of individuals had very little equipment to start with. Most of the men would bring their own firearms from home, but they had little in terms of normal materials for an army camp, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 9. Caffeine Argument Analysis In the world of health one well known controversy is whether or not caffeine is good for you or if it has any nutritional value. On the pro side of the argument, many doctors have performed new studies showing that caffeine has a lot of positive effects on our health such as reducing the risk of skin cancer which was confirmed in an experiment done by Erikka Loftfield MPH. Based on my research I ve found that studies also show that caffeine has been shown to enhance both physical and cognitive performance in younger adults , as stated by M. J. Duncan in a study done in 2014. Sheena Derry s studies from the University of Oxford show us that caffeine is a great remedy for pain relief and migraines. Registered dietician Keri Glassman stated in an interview that caffeine can help prevent well known diseases such as diabetes and Parkinson s. • 11. Alka Seltzer Research Paper Alka Seltzer is a medicine that acts as a pain reliever and an antacid. Antacids are used to help neutralize the acids in the stomach and help treat acid reflux, heartburn, indigestion, and gastritis. The tablets contain sodium bicarbonate (NaHCO3) and citric acid (C6H8O7). The sodium bicarbonate is a base that helps neutralize the acids in the stomach, mainly hydrochloric acid (HCl). It does this by the following reaction: Na3C3H5O7(aq) + 3HCl(aq) H3C3H5O7(aq) + 3NaCl(aq). When the tablets are dropped into the water, a reaction occurs in which water (H2O), sodium citrate (Na3C6H5O7), and carbon dioxide (CO2) are formed. • 14. Descriptive Essay About The Winter Concert The sound of a dying cow, croaking its last breath . That was what my dad called the sound of me playing my clarinet. Don t get me wrong, I love playing the clarinet and always tried my best, but 3rd grade me was not that talented. To specify, I sounded truly horrible. All the beginner band students (including me) had thought they were the best of the best. The greatest musicians in the world. Of course, as you may know, 1st year players were nowhere near perfect no less professionals. And this leads me to my school first concert of the year; The Winter Concert. We could not call it the Christmas concert as I went to a public school. This was even though 95% of the kids were Christian/White and most of the songs we sang and played were Christmas jingles. So, to continue, one of the songs we played other than the obvious jingle bells, was hot cross buns. Clearly no concert is perfect and by far, we screwed it up. By the end, none of the parents watching could tell the difference between the song and the squeaks that were over powering the song . To conclude the concert, everyone s parents came up to each of their sweet little kids and gave them flowers, hugs, and kisses. Mine came over and said, You guys sounded like a herd being led to the slaughter house . Nah, just kidding said they loved it. Their inner thoughts may have been a little different though. My 7th birthday was the first birthday I actually celebrated with invited friends. Of course my parents were cheap and we had it at the park instead of places like funtopia or chuckee cheeses, but it was fine. Really it was JUST FINE! I AM NOT MAD! Just joking, I actually really enjoyed it. Most of the kids just came for the free pizza and goodie bags at the end, but didn t we all at one point. I remember one time a group of me and my friends went to this B day party of a girl we all hated... and avoided her the entire time! Ahhh, the good old days where every kid was a bull, even to their fake friends, and no one got in trouble. • 17. Literary Devices In The Game By Donald Barthelme In every story, there are many things to analyze. In Game by Donald Barthelme, he shows us the way our minds start to work in stressful situations like how the narrator and Shotwell started to respond while controlling the console for the war. In Game the narrator s name is never told, Shotwell and the narrator do not trust each other, but are left alone together and trusted to kill the other if they start to behave strangely, although it is never clarified what counts as strange and what counts as normal. Various literary devices are used throughout the story to show us Barthelme s intended theme, some used are: repetition, symbolism, irony, and figurative language. Barthelme uses repetition to show how the narrator s mind is deteriorating while being confined in a small space, isolated from everyone except someone he does not know, with very little instruction about what to do. A lot of what the narrator repeats throughout the story are what makes us, as the readers, believe that his mind is deteriorating. For example, when he repeats that they have been there for one hundred thirty three days, Barthelme is showing how the narrator is counting the days to keep himself reminded. Although, it starts to make him question how long he and Shotwell will be in isolation and it starts to make him think differently about his situation and he starts to realize and focus on about how they are both unwell. • 18. Live Free Or Die By Saul Bellow Live Free or Die. These words spoken by General John Stark in 1809 echoed across our country during the time of America s early existence and still resonate with our citizens today in the early twenty first century. Freedom is a right on which our country was founded and that many Americans have fought to protect and preserve over the past two centuries. As such, to speak illy of freedom would be blasphemous; however, that is exactly what Saul Bellow does throughout his literature. Saul Bellow was a decorated American Canadian writer who published numerous books throughout the 20th century winning awards that spanned from the Pulitzer Prize to the Nobel Prize for Literature. Throughout all three of his novels, Bellow fostered a close relationship between his main character and one of their family members through the implementation of various types of literary devices in Dangling Man, he does so with Joseph s wife. This bond between both characters was demonstrated when Joseph purposely with held information from his spouse Iva to spare her rather than [sparing himself] (Dangling Man, 199). Bellow implemented this action to symbolize their relationship and the love he felt towards her. In this scene, Joseph showed that he cared enough about his wife to try and protect her from the truth and would sacrifice his own peace of mind rather than her s. As such, Bellow forced the reader to recognize the that a Joseph and Iva had a very close relationship through marriage. In the forefront of Seize the Day, Tommy is addressing his relationship with his father when he was younger and stated that [he] could turn to him in a time of crisis or need (Seize the Day, 15). Bellow placed this specific line in the beginning of the novel to symbolize the trust that Tommy and his father once shared and to verify existence of their relationship. • 20. The Hero, Scapegoat, And Innocent Youth Archetypes In Lord... Although Ralph shows good leadership skills, he also has weaknesses like everyone else. In the novel Lord of the Flies by William Golding, Ralph portrays the Hero, Scapegoat, and Innocent Youth Archetypes. Ralph demonstrates the Hero Archetype when he becomes chief, when he helps build shelters to sleep in, when he stood up to Jack, when he went to look for the beast, and lastly when he tried to help Piggy get his specs back. Ralph also demonstrates the Scapegoat Archetype when he was attacked, when he was hiding from the savages, when he was seen by a savage and got frightened, and when he realized he lost his innocence. Ralph s innocent youth is also shown when Ralph squirted water at Piggy, when he imagined the group being rescued, and when he asked a question he already knew the answer to. Ralph s leadership and help he offers to everyone in the group clearly shows his connection to the Hero Archetype. Ralph wanting to be chief and being chosen to be chief by the group, Who wants me? Every hand outside the choir...was raised immediately... Ralph counted. I m chief then. (Golding 19). This shows Ralph s heroism because everyone voted for him to be chief and he wanted to take that leadership role to guide the group. Ralph helped the group build shelters and he built the most, We all built the first one, four of us the second, and me n Simon built the last one... (Golding 85). This shows how Ralph is a hero because he is doing his fair share of work and more, for the benefit of others. When Ralph stood up to Jack because Jack was going against Ralph and challenging his position as leader. Ralph said to him, Why do you hate me? (Golding 129). This shows Ralphs heroism because he chose to show bravery rather than coware like a hero would. When the group was worried about the beast and Ralph was reassuring them and offered to go look for the beast. The group was talking about the beast and Ralph said, We ll go and look. (Golding 133). This shows how Ralph connects to heroism because he made a selfless act that would put his life at risk for the sake of others. Sullivan Airport Research Paper If you have ever passed through Sullivan Illinois, or live in Sullivan, I am sure you went over railroad tracks and thought how can these be in this bad of condition? Sullivan is a very small city with a population of 4,400 people. There are a lot of people passing through Sullivan every day. On their way to school, work, to the store, or just passing through. For the most part people would have to go over a railroad track to get anywhere and they are in very poor conditions. There is no bypass to get around them so it backs up cars, and it doesn t help the trains take around five or more minutes to pass; along with this I think it is very unsafe for people to drive on, walk over, and cross them. This is a serious problem for some people who do not know what the tracks are like and do not know how slow to go over them. This could cause many accidents and sometimes even serious injuries. Every time someone drives over a railroad they should not have to slow to down to ten miles an hour or slower. Yes, it is a good idea too and is safer, but what if they were smooth and flat and people could just keep going the speed limit. It would make things more efficient and faster to get to places. If the driver goes too fast over the tracks it could damage their car because the railroad is not flat. For instance, on my way to school, I have to go over a railroad track and it is in terrible condition. There are no meters to know if a train is coming, one of the lights are out also to know when a train is coming, it is so bumpy even going slow doesn t help, I jerk back and forth, and drivers cannot see if there is oncoming traffic because the tracks are elevated higher than the rest of the road. An easy way to solve this is lower the tracks to the same level as the road to where it is flat. People walking could see oncoming traffic and have a better understanding of where to walk. Another way to solve this is get new tracks to lie on the road. A few years ago, Sullivan got new tracks near where the highway crosses them in the middle of town and it is so much smoother and easier to drive over then most of the railroads in town. The Rebellion Of The Romanov Dynasty O n March 2nd 1917, the rule of a 300 year old dynasty was laid to rest as Tsar Nicholas II signed his warrant for abdication, officially sanctioning the end of the Romanov Dynasty. The immediate cause permitting this action was the success of the February Revolution however; this event evolved because of several internal and external factors, both long and short term in nature. Predominant among all we recognise the perpetuation of an outdated system of rule, the repercussions of rapid industrialisation, emerging doctrines of liberalism, political inflexibility and the vices imposed by the First World War. These factors progressively embellished societal discontent among the Russian people and inexorably stimulated the insurrection of the February Revolution. The means by which Nicholas II sought to rule as Tsar as well as his intrinsic characteristics played a significant role in the occurrence of Revolution in 1917. Nicholas was conservative by nature. The original intent of these programs are discussed and compared to the current use and distribution of federal resources to identify inefficiencies and potential areas for improvements. In addition to the financial and economic effects of agricultural subsidies, the factors of social welfare and impact on consumers nutrition and health are discussed along with efficiency improvements that could better allocate taxpayer dollars to farms in need and crops that contribute more to social welfare and the health of society as a whole. Agricultural Problem Solving: Are Farm Subsidies Working in the United States? Introduction Beginning in the 1930s, agricultural subsidy programs were established in the United States to address the issues of inelastic supply and demand of the agriculture market along with the nature of the industry that faces uncertain performance in terms of production and demand, which can vary greatly from year to year (Urry, 2015). Through several reiterations of government policy surrounding these subsidy payments, the majority of direct payments are now being received by large, for profit farming companies (Urry, 2015), further incentivizing them to mass produce crops easily grown and ... Also the depth of the thermometers in each flask will remain constant for both tests. • 36. Saussure And The Grammatical Structure Of The Language Saussure makes a distinction between the system of language, which he calls langue, and the manifestation of that system, which he calls parole. Langue is the grammatical structure of the language, as well as the definition of the relationships of the various elements of that language with each other, whereas parole is essentially the way people express themselves. Malinowski, Jakobson and others hold a contrasting view to that of Saussure. They contend that context is an important factor in the definition of the meaning of language. A statement, spoken in real life, is never detached from the situation in which it has been uttered...a word without linguistic context is a mere figment and stands for nothing by itself, so in the reality of a spoken living tongue, the utterance has no meaning except in the context of situation (Malinowski, p. 307). Therefore, sentences do not have an independent meaning outside of context, as Saussure claims, but are simply symbols that represent an idea. This theory is known as Pragmatic Linguistics. Its purpose is to study the effect of context on the meaning of language. Those who adhere to this view maintain that meaning depends on the status of both the speaker and the listener, on the context in which they are placed, on any implied intent on the part of the speaker and not on the linguistic structure, such as grammar. For example, a statement such as Go ahead could mean: You may proceed, You may start the race, You may continue ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Diana rants, She hated Sundays because they usually started with church and ended with informal visiting hours, although informal was a completely erroneous way of describing these visits, as everything was done appropriately and triple chaperoned by their mother, their divorced Aunt Edith, and a small army of help (Godbersen 90). • 38. Do Name Brand Clothing Affect Children and Teens... Chanel, Versace, American Eagle, Abercrombie Fitch, Hollister, Under Armor, True Religion, and Free People are only some of the name brand clothing that teens see in their everyday lives walking down the hallway at school or while shopping at the mall. Crouching in an inconspicuous bush, paparazzi with its vulture like claws, snap pictures of her strutting by. Eisen (2014) describes that wearing these clothes helps children meet friends without the fear of being left out or unwanted; walking down the halls with brand name items makes teens more confident in themselves: If a teen sees another teen wearing one of their favorite brands they are more likely to strike up a conversation. Even if you are shy, you will be much more self assured because you know you have something in common with another person, their fashion. Self esteem is a huge part of being a teenager, so a small boost in confidence could have a tremendous effect. What teens wear identify them as belonging to specific cliques or groups who wear similar apparel. Having this confidence helps children try new things without a fear of rejection. It will give them a sense of belonging and togetherness with other students, and they will feel included and wanted which is essential to a teen s self esteem (Faber Media, 2014). In middle school and high school teens need a feeling of belonging and clothing with name brands helps bring them closer together. Teisha Vonique Hood from SMU (2012) stated that when people associate themselves with a particular brand or branded image, they immediately assume a new identity that is in some sense, confined to the social points of that brand. When people wear a certain brand they are telling people they like that company and what it conveys. Children know that a certain brand could make them popular or ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In order to fit in with Hitler s Aryan Race , one must be blond, blue eyed, German and essentially perfect. One of the several key aspects of gatekeeping is to guard patients that have direct access to specialised care (Bodenheimer Grumbach,2009). General practitioners and other primary care professionals are signified to be gatekeepers (World Health Organisation,2000). Starfield.B (1992), Grumbach Fry (1993) and Bodenheimer Grumbach (2009) points out responsibilities of primary care professions (gatekeeper) first, they are to encounter the patient s health care (Starfield B.,1992) and proceed ambulatory care (Grumbach and Fry,1993). A gatekeeper is the decision maker for opening the gates to a further specialised field after proceeding fundamental primary care on a patient hence, patients are not entitled to direct their own specialists. Also, their purposes are not just to take care of the patient s wellbeing but giving extensive treatment if any is required (World Health Organisation, 2000) such as, minor illness which includes skin disorders, respiratory infection, headache and common flu, also includes preventive care; vaccinations, immunization and prenatal care are some of the common examples (Heinemann,1980). ... • 43. Summary Of Girl By Jamacia Kincaid When a text is first being dissected it is important to walk in to the situation prepared. To be prepared you must go into the situation equipped with your own interpretation as to what constitutes literature. The definition of literature isn t very concise. Like art the definition of literature can vary from one individual to another and before studying these subjects the audience should establish their own definition so that they can look for themes and symbols in the piece. In my opinion I believe that literature should be defined as any fictitious work that implements symbols, and other literary devices, to convey different themes and messages below the surface of the text. With this interpretation of literature I think that its purpose is to give the audience insight into the lives of others and make statements about our society. When readers study literature in this manner they are able to view our society from an outside perspective and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 44. Race Is The Most Complex Word Of The World Throughout my research, the one thing that I am certain of is that the term race is the most complex word in the world. To this day, many people are divided on whether Race is a real concept. Race has many definitions, but the way I believe most people define it in today s society is A group or set of people or things with a common feature or features. Most people including myself confuse the word Race with Ethnicity. However, the two words are very different. The definition of Ethnicity is the fact or state of belonging to a social group that has a common national or cultural tradition. The two words are distinguished from one another by their meanings. One of them represents outer appearances of populations and the other represents the cultural views of populations. Many things led up to classifying people into races . One of the most significant is slavery. However, when slavery began it was not considered slavery, but thought of more as an institution. In the New World, all types of people including Irish, Indians, Africans, and Englishmen were slaves. The environment was cruel and harsh, but if they survived their time of up to seven years, they were set free and able to own land and their own slaves. During this time, it was the wealthy society vs. the poor society. People were not treated unfairly because of the color of their skin but rather treated unfairly because of their social status. The economy took a turn for the worst when more men became ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 49. Lord Of The Flies Lomb Song Analysis This song depicts how the boys felt when they first arrived at the island. They saw that there were no adults and were excited about all the fun they were planning to have together and without parental supervision. The song paints an island in a positive light saying that it s a paradise, just like the boy s original fantasies. Welcome to the Jungle Guns and Roses This song relates to Lord of the Flies by showing how the boys slowly became more and more like animals. In the beginning, things were great. The boys had fun, swam, and ate fruit under Ralph s leadership. But as Jack s obsession with hunting became unmanageable and he replaced himself as the new leader of the new tribe , the boys became more and more savage. This chaos and destructive behavior is modeled in Welcome to the Jungle by lyrics such as welcome to the jungle, it gets worse here everyday, Ya learn to act like an animal. Mob song Beauty and the Beast The mob song from the movie Beauty and the Beast is very similar to the boys ritualistic hunting dance. They both have a leader Gaston/Jack who urge on the mob to kill the beast. Gaston and Jack understand that fear can perpetuate a mob mentality that is easily controlled through a form of frightened excitement and through the absence of light. That is why both Simon and Piggy both died at the hand of the tribe. The Mob Song uses imagery of darkness and shadow, much like the novel and both a fueled by a frenzied excitement from the mobs. Ralph A character Sketch One of the main characters in Lord of the Flies, Ralph is one of the oldest bigguns on the island. His good looks and confident demeanor quickly makes him the obvious leader to the boys. Although he lacks Piggy s apparent intelligence, Ralph is relatively logical and responsible, with sound judgment and a firm moral scale. But, like the other boys, he can fall into the same entraping instincts that affect the other boys, as demonstrated by his part Simon s murder. Regardless, Ralph remains the most civilized character throughout the novel, save for Piggy. At the end of the novel, it was somewhat tragic because Ralph finally understands that evil lives inside of all the boys. This leaves him depressed ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
