which became detrimental to the black race. Cognitive Dissonance causes human beings not to
function well unless all dissonance is removed because it drives a great deal of discomfort. The
discomfort is caused by discord thinking which occurs when there s conflict with what you believe

Throughout the text, Pascale and Diana treated Gwen with disrespect due to what they had
known about her which was very little and her appearance. They thought she was going to take
advantage of Robert because she was a successful movie actress. An example of this shown in
the text is when Diana said to Robert You have to be careful. There are a lot of very
manipulative, very artful women out there. Although Diana said this in a generalized term it
was aimed towards Gwen. I found this quite frustrating because I believe you should support
your friends with the decisions they choo, especially if it s the choice to have a relationship with
someone. Although I do understand that Diana is being cautious for Robert as his wife passed
in recent months but I do think that she should be supportive towards him and not categorize
Gwen as being manipulative or artful . In society these days women are recognized by many
labels, some of which include; petite or dainty . I find these disgusting as it does not describe
the individual but they are referred to as a group. In my opinion, I believe labels and stereotypes
should be banished as everyone is different whether they are the same ethnicity, gender or have
the same occupation. Every individual is Unique and should be treated with respect in my
belief. Another reason why I dislike Pascale and Diana is because they made the assumption that
Gwen was just using Robert. Pascale said, What if she is going to break his heart or use him?
Basically, Pascale and Diana are judging her by her appearance, her occupation and the ways she
acts. Making rude remarks towards Gwen when she has done nothing wrong forces me to dislike
both Diana and Pascale as I believe you should not judge a book by its cover or a person by their
face as it s what is said on the pages is what really counts. I think getting to know someone s
personality first before making any
