Birth Defect Research Paper
Use of Genetic Engineering to Stop Birth Defects Every year in the United States around 120,000
infants are born with defects(1). This means that 1 in every 33 babies are born with a harmful
defect(1). These children face many hardships throughout their lives. A birth defects is any physical or
biochemical abnormality that is present at birth and that may be inherited or the result of an
environmental influence. These defects can range from mild to severe based on each case. Children
born with defects do not normally live the average life span and their life is filled with challenges and
hardships. Birth defects are the leading cause for infant death in the United States. These children get
shunned in today s society. If or when they go to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The main two ways are environmental and genetic. Environmental defects are ones that are caused by
the infant s environment either in utero or after the birth. These could range from drug induced to the
toxins that are in the environment where the child is born. There are also multiple ways that birth
defects can be presented. The most common and accepted ones are structural and
functional/developmental birth defects. Structural abnormalities are defects that occur in the structure
or body parts of the infant (5). These could include cleft lip, heart defects, spina bifida, or anyone that
challenges the normal growth of the infant internally or externally. Functional/developmental defects
are associated with any abnormality that alters how a body part or body system works (5). These most
commonly lead to intellectual and developmental disorders. The most common developmental defects
are nervous system or brain problem, sensory problems, degenerative disorders, and metabolic
disorders (5). Both of these types of defect can dramatically alter the child s life and lead to many
surgeries and therapies. If genetic engineering was used to alter the genetic material while these
affected infants were in utero they could had been born completely

The Woman In The Dunes By Murakami

and directly implied in The Woman in the Dunes, Murakami s After Dark investigates this idea as
well. The protagonist Mari also realizes her self value through helping Dongli. Dongli s appreciation
further gives her confidence and promotes her courage to reinvolve into society with a mature self. All
the three steps for the successful pursuit of identity rely not on the passive environment but on the
active interaction between the self and the others. Abe and Murakami strengthen this point through
irony. In The Woman in the

Songs like Ain t no mountain high enough , My Girl , and ABC have shaped American history in ways
that people don t even realize. We wouldn t be listing to artist like Beyoncé, Drake, and John Legend
if these former artists didn t write and/or perform these songs. They have allowed African American
music to blossom to what it is known for today. If these artists did not continue to write and produce
music, they would have never gotten anywhere and we wouldn t have the African American artist we

Comparing Three Types Of Managers
2. Katzenbach and Kahn (2010) compare three types of managers in regard to motivation and pride
building (p. 79). This is similar to the Blake and Mouton Managerial Grid. What insights from these
categories of managers and the Grid can you use to motivate performance in yourself and others?
Katzenbach and Khan believe there are three categories of manager: a good manager, a people person
and a pride builder. A good manager is fair and rational working toward equality and efficiency. They
focus on the development of individuals with potential using formal development plans. A people
person is typically hands on and explains the reasoning behind their decision. This individual is easy
to work with and uses their connections to create development opportunities for their favorites. A
pride builder encourages staff to be actively involved in problem solving and empowers staff to pursue
ideas. They strive to get the personal best effort from every team member and are often a role model
for expected behaviors (2010). A good manager is focused on meeting metrics and mastering the
processes often using a standardized approach for all employees. A people person creates a happy and
social environment providing perks such as lunch and snacks. A pride builder realizes different
approaches are needed for different individuals and tailors the motivation and pride building to the
individual or specific groups. A pride builder is often called a master motivator as they understand the

The History Of Art In Nebraska And The Great Plains
Art in Nebraska and the Great Plains has been shaped by its diverse groups of inhabitants. Czechs are
one of many groups who added and enhanced artistic endeavors inside Nebraska and the Great Plains.
Czechs have a rich history of artistic pursuits. Famous musicians such as Dvorak and Smetana, and
the country s long theatrical history have shaped Czech individuals. The arts are in many ways at the
heart of Czech culture. Czechs brought this mindset with them into Nebraska and the Great Plains.
Czech immigration, during the 19th and 20th century, contributed to the culture and arts of Nebraska
and the Great Plains as a whole; especially through music, theater, furniture making, and the Wilber

Arguments Against The Mexican War
Boom! The sound of a cannon in the far off distance goes off, now there is fear that rises up into the
air. When going into this war, many soldiers believed in something called Manifest Destiny. Manifest
Destiny was God s plan that America would extend its territory all the way to the Pacific Ocean. This
bloody war was much like the war that commenced at the Alamo. The Alamo set into motion actions
concluding with the Texans winning their independence from Mexico. The United States was justified
in going to war with Mexico because Mexico attacked American soldiers first, Texas was not ready to
abolish slavery, Texas had their own independence, Mexico crossed American borders, Americans
believed in Manifest Destiny, and the U.S. should follow ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The battle of San Jacinto lead to Texas s independence in 1836.(Roden 271) Texas had just won their
freedom, now they wanted to choose to be part of the US union. According to this information, The
invasion was threatened solely because Texas had determined to annex herself to our union , (Polk

leave. As time went on the US finally made a decision to annex Texas the union. Texas is now ours!
(O Sullivan 323) Many people were happy and rejoiced that the US now had Texas. This struggle is
displayed in one of Roden s maps, when the Mexicans crossed our borders. In the map that Roden
had, it showed the US going to the Rio Grande and then Mexico coming over to the Rio Grande too,
which was within American borders.(Roden 315) When the Mexicans crossed America s borders, they
didn t think they did, because both America and Mexico had different ideas of where the border was.
Mexico believed it to be on the Nueces River, and America believed it to be on the Rio Grande. This
could have been a reason of to why America and Mexico got into the big argument. This evidence
shows that the US was justified in going to war because Mexico killed U.S. soldiers on American soil,
and Texas itself had chosen to join with the U.S. All this information gives much

Introduction
Market structure reflects all the most important aspects of the market the number of firms in the
industry, the type of product produced, the possibility to enter and exit of firms, number of customers,
the ability of a single firm to influence the market price.

The main objective of marketing in a monopoly to control the market and to maintain the uniqueness
of the product.
Examples of companies in Australia: Telstra, Energy Aus.
2. Oligopoly occurs when a small number of suppliers control a significant share of supplies. In this
case, each of the suppliers to take into account the reactions of other suppliers to changes in market
activity. Products manufactured oligopoly may be homogeneous, e.g., aluminium or differential such
as cigarettes and automobiles. For example, due to the fact that it requires a huge financial cost, very
few companies can afford to enter the market of oil refining or production of steel. In some industries,
requires a certain level of technical and marketing skills, which is an insurmountable barrier for many
potential competitors. Companies on the oligopolistic market try to avoid price wars due to the fact
that this approach is costly to all involved in the war.
Examples of companies in Australia: Toyota, Ford, British American Tobacco.
3. Monopolistic competition
Monopolistic competition occurs when potential competitors of the company are trying to develop a
differential marketing strategy in order to capture market share.
There are several firms, but different marketing structure, although similar products.
For Example: Coles, Wolly, Aldi, IGA they all sell

The Underachievement Of Male And Female Education
The underachievement of males in society has been a growing problem that is being widely ignored
by society. Children are experiencing the most important and emotional part of their lives when they
are in school that will leave ever lasting effects. The success of people as students are not real
indicators of how they will do later in life, but it is the confidence and self esteem that people will
remember in their school days that might stay with adults until they realize that it is keeping them
down or until death. Stereotypes, lack of male role models, more feminized school system, and
combining this all together to find the underlying problem of the female majority who are succeeding,
graduating, and are accepted more often than males. These are the main issues to figure out when it
comes to the imbalance of male and female education. Male Underachievement in Education
Introduction In recent years, female achievement in the education system has grown very strong, but
in its place, male achievement in education has plummeted. Due to male stereotypes, lack of male role
models in school and at home along with the adoption of more feminized school places and practices,
males are no longer being challenged to take risks and freely engage in critical thinking skills to be
able to succeed as much as females in the current educational system. Since the recent uprising of the
feminist movement, the fact that females are faring better than their male counterparts,

Analysis Of Judas The Iscariot
This paper is an investigation of the Judas the Iscariot. He left behind his entire life to live
nomadically with Jesus and the other eleven disciples. Judas is known to be the betrayer. He crafted a
plan for Judas to be arrested in exchange for 30 pieces of silver. The Gospel authors and most people
see Judas as the bad guys. But have we misinterpreted Judas? This paper will be a defense for Judas
they Isocratic. I will be examining the accounts of Judas and Messianic prophecy. I will specifically
look at a common argument against Judas, Judas friendship with Jesus, what the Gospel authors
explicitly declared to be Judas motives to be, and how patriotism could ve motivated Judas. Lastly, I
will make my final defense of Judas based on my evidence and analysis.
Background:
The Account of Judas In the New Testament Judas the Iscariot was a descendant of the ancient tribe of
Judas. Iscariot means Man of Kerioth, Man of The Cities, and City Slicker. Kerioth was a city north of
Hebron. Judas was the only apostle from Judea, while the rest were Galilean.
Throughout the Gospels, wherever Judas the Iscariot is named the betrayer. Judas the Iscariot was
chosen by Jesus as one of His twelve apostles. In Mark, the Judas, Jesus and the rest of the apostles
entered a home where a large crowd came to see Jesus, so much so that Jesus and His disciple could
not eat. The Pharisees continuously challenged Jesus throughout his ministry. But Jesus outsmarted

Hitler and the Appeasement Policy of the 1930s Essay
Appeasement Policy was a foreign policy that was adapted by Britain and
France in the 1930 s towards Germany. Britain and France let Hitler have
whatever they considered necessary to preserve peace in Europe, as they
merely wanted to focus on domestic issues, such as economy and
unemployment . They believed that Hitler had certain aims and that once he had
achieved these, he would be satisfied. So they allowed him to re arm, invade the
Rhineland (1936), and complete the Anschluss of Austria (1938) followed by the

Appeasement between Adolf Hitler and Neville Chamberlain had been strained.
Chamberlain had neither desire nor economic stance to be drawn into a costly
war. He was unwilling to oppose Hitler as he had feared another Great War
would come into effect. Furthermore he favored a policy of appeasement.
Chamberlain believed Hitler was a reasonable leader and planned on giving him
whatever Germany needed, so that he could be satisfied or appeased.
Chamberlain believed that Hitler would keep his promises. As well Canada s
Prime Minister, Mackenzie King was also in favor of appeasement and believed
that Hitler was a sincere man who had no intention to provoke a war. He too,
agreed with Chamberlain that Hitler could soon be appeased. Mackenzie King
and Neville Chamberlain had what they believed to be good reasons for
supporting appeasement, however Adolf Hitler was nothing but a cruel, ruthless
man that manipulated all the countries leaders as to believing that he was a
sincere, reasonable leader.

policy that British Prime Minister, Neville Chamberlain had adapted. Afterward,

My Vision For America Essay
The first English settlers arrived in the New World around the early 1600 s and established colonies.
About a year and a half later, our amazing and beautiful country took place. America has been alive
and ever blossoming for 239 years. Our goal subsists to keeping that number high. My visions for
America so we can keep blossoming remain as follows: a strong military force, a healthy society, and
a faithful unity of people. Developing and sustaining a powerful military force takes the place as the
first of my visions for America. On the day, September 29, 1789, our country s first official military
force came about. That day meant that, from this time forward we will do our absolute best to defend
our country. So far we have kept our word; aside from only a few losses. After reading that, we can t
lose hope; we can t let down now, we must push forward in this goal! In the beginning process of our
military addition we had the early equipment and thinking. Now, our military has developed and

Technology Into Early Childhood Education
Matters to Consider when introducing Technology into Early Childhood Education
Introduction
Earlier research was more concerned with weather or not technology; including computers were, in
fact, beneficial to children s learning. Current research is concerned with how technology can be used
to support children s learning and development (Morrison, 2009). Acronyms like PC, CD, DVD, PDA,
DSL, eBay, and .com, are part of our professional vocabulary right alongside ECE... technology has
changed the way we teach children (Donohue, 2003). This author takes the position that technology is
beneficial to early childhood education. This paper will outline how technology is beneficial to early

It needs to be acknowledged that technology and media are social icons, and, most importantly,
children are active consumers of these products (Weddell, 2001). There is little wonder why
technology is being viewed as becoming, if not already, common place in the educational setting.
Zevenbergen (2010, p. 1) states, This generation has been immersed in technology since their
emergence into the world. Their homes have computer technology in all facets of gadgetry the remote
control for the television, the programmable microwave, the mobile phone computers, digital games
(such as Xbox, as well as those on the computer) .
Early childhood is a period of growth and rapid development. During this time, many children attend
preschool, where they have access to technology as a learning tool (Chen amp; Couse, 2010). There is
increasing interest and belief in the need to start this education [technology] at an earlier age, possibly
as soon as children begin formal schooling or even nursery school or kindergarten (Stables, 1997). In
a survey conducted by Flynn et, al. (2010), the results showed more than half of the educators
surveyed think that children should be introduced to technology between ages 3 and 4. Perhaps one
reason the findings would indicate this is due to the motivational

Self awareness and the locus of the self knowledge development: a comparison study to investigate
developmental sequences using semi structured self concept interviews.
ABSTRACT
This study examines the view that self awareness gradually develops with a shift from physical to
psychological characteristics whilst the locus of self knowledge progressively transfers from others to
the self. Previous research implementing semi structured self concept interviews to investigate self
descriptions amongst young children of various age groups supported these findings, underpinning the
theories of a gradual emergence and elaboration of the self as a subject and the self as an object of
knowledge. In the current study, a comparison ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Rosenberg s (ibid) findings indicated that younger children tend to describe more physical activities
and characteristics whilst this gradually develops to include relationships and interpersonal traits,
eventually shifting to more inner qualities. Rosenberg (1979, as cited in: The Open University, 2010,
pp. 21 22) also found that the locus of self knowledge gradually shifted from a reliance on another
person as point of reference for judging themselves, towards the self.
This study intends to investigate, and confirm, the findings of Rosenberg (1979, as cited in: The Open
University, 2010, pp. 21 22) by analysing transcripts of semi structured interviews with two children
aged eight and sixteen. This was done within the meaning of investigating the development of the self
concept and the locus of self knowledge.

Implementation Of A Transitional Care Program Evaluation
For a transitional care program evaluation, it is requisite to combine two separate theories to aid in
addressing the problem of poor transitional care outcomes, the process of measuring outcomes, and
the creation of recommendations for improvement. A middle range nursing theory, Transitions theory
centers on the process of individuals transitions and addresses the barriers to and principles of
successful transitional outcomes (Meleis, 2010). The theory is both descriptive and predictive, it can
be used to further describe and define the problem of poor transitions and its barriers as well as
identify outcomes that signal successful interventions in individuals (Meleis, Sawyer, Im, Messias,
Schumacher, 2000). The indicators of successful interventions as defined by Transitions Theory can
guide the selection of the types of outcomes to be measured by the program evaluation to ensure that
outcomes that reflect transitional success are selected. Furthermore, the principles of healthy
transitions identified by Transitions Theory will aid in the creation of recommendations for program
improvement. Continuous quality improvement (CQI) will be joined with Transitions Theory in the
program evaluation. Although originally developed by business managers, CQI is best known for its
use in manufacturing settings, specifically in the automotive industry (Radawski, 1999). CQI was
created with customers (patients) as the center of its philosophy; consequentially, the model

Comparing Kennedy And Roosevelt s Four Freedoms

obtain liberty, however Roosevelt s speech focuses on what the freedoms are, whereas Kennedy s
speech focuses on what we should do about it. Though both of the speeches are given by respectable
Presidents of the United States and discuss the topic of freedom, they are very differing in what they
focus on when talking about liberty.
Both Kennedy and Roosevelt wrote speeches on the topic of liberty and there are many similarities to
the two, one in particular I found very interesting was This nation has placed its destiny in the hands
and hearts of its millions of free men and women, and its faith in freedom under the guidance of God
(FDR 276). This shows that Roosevelt put his faith in God in whether the country deserved freedom

Conservation of Linear Momentum
Objective
The primary goal of this experiment was to study the force that a jet generates on hemispherical, flat,

As can be seen, the forces that act on the x direction are caused by pressure at sections 1 and 2.
Similarly, an expression that relates the conservation of linear momentum in the Y direction can be
developed.
Discussion
Although the experiment was successful, some errors occurred during the experiment that made most
values to deviate from the expected ones. Generally, both fixed and random errors were observed
(Mitchell Worledge, 2015). The random errors, in this case, resulted into statistical fluctuations in the
measured data because of the limitations in precision measurement. Additionally, the random errors
occurred due to inability to take the same measurements as the expected ones. Furthermore, fixed
errors were responsible for reduced inaccuracies in the values obtained (Valiani Caleffi, 2011).
However, the best way to minimize random errors is by averaging

Relationship Between Math And Math
When people think math, most likely they will reminisce about sitting in a classroom solving
problems that they did not want to solve because for many people math is a paradox. These thoughts
go with calculations, numbers, formulas and disinterest. If I were asked to describe math, I can say
that it is soulless. But what happens when you think about music and math? Well, there are all kinds of
music that bring out many emotions out of us. When we listen we can get happy, sad, mad, we listen
while we are driving, cleaning, running, and music can be present in many of our daily routines.
Music has soul. Now, math and music seem like complete opposites. Although the connection is not
obvious, math and music have a very close relationship. According to Michael Beer 1998, In the time
of the ancient Greeks, mathematics and music were strongly connected. Music was considered as a
strictly math discipline, handling with number relationships, ratios and proportions. In the quadrivium
(the curriculum of the Pythagorean School) music was placed on the same level as arithmetic,
geometry and astronomy (s. Figure1). This interpretation totally neglected the creative aspects of
musical performance. Music was the science of sound and harmony. Mathematics (the study of the
unchangeable) Quantity (the discrete) Magnitude (the continued) Alone (the absolute) Arithmetic In

Mexico Descriptive Essay
Don t just stand there! Do something! my mom yelled across the driveway. Everything was outside the
truck, ready to be put inside. I walked over to help my dad pack thing. Once we finally packed
everything
When we drove out the driveway, I got a glimpse of the small green tree in our front yard. It is so little
yet so full of life. That tree always seemed to grab my attention but I never really knew why.
My family in Mexico, or more specifically my Tia Olga, says it is absolutely beautiful over there.
Prior to this trip, the only time we went to Mexico was for new year s. But we stayed in the gated
community. I wasn t able to comprehend how someone can think that Mexico is beautiful outside of
the gated communities. I always asked myself How is Mexico beautiful?
Crossing the border was a lot easier than I expected. Looking out the window, I saw nothing but stray
dogs, homeless drunks, and people trying to sell old stuff. It wasn t the image of beautiful I had in my
mind. It was around Christmas time so everyone had their worn nativity sets out. We kept driving
through Tijuana for what seemed like hours. We stopped for tacos at a little stand on the side of the
road. The tacos were delicious but the man who made them looked as if he had worked all day and
night.
While we ate I watched these two little kids play together. By the way they were arguing, I made the
assumption that they were siblings. As I watched I saw them playing with toys that seemed centuries
old. They had one doll and a doll house made of sticks. The longer I watched the less I started to see
the flaws. They were so happy with the little they had. I was so mesmerized by the make shift doll
house my parents asked if I was okay.
Yeah, I m fine. Just tired I answered quickly.
After we finished eating, we drove through more what seemed like deserted towns. All around me
were houses made of tin and blankets, crops in front of peoples houses, and people begging for
money. It was a sad thing to see, so I turned away, closed my eyes, and slowly fell asleep. When I
woke up, we had arrived at my Tia Olga s house. She had a large gate around her property protecting
her and the house. When she let us in, it revealed an old and a new house,

The 1999 Halloween Rules
This letter is to acknowledge the 1999 Halloween rule that did not allow students to dress in costume
for Halloween. For the quality of learning, the protection of beliefs of students and families, and for
the safety of staff and students, I believe that the Halloween costume ban during school is still the
correct decision. The most important factor of school is learning and if students were to freely wear
Halloween costumes, not only would it break dress code, it would also disturb the potential of learning
that other students could have during the day. Some students like to wear large, bright, distracting
costumes which would direct the attention off of the teacher or the subject that students are learning.
To me, these distractions create

Symbolism in the Chrysanthemums by John Steinbeck
John Steinbeck s The Chrysanthemums is a story that is full of symbolism. After the first read, it
might seem like an innocent tale about a woman and her garden. However, upon further examination,
the reader learns it is actually a story about a woman s desires and frustrations in her life. Steinbeck
uses many examples, such as the flowers to symbolize the thoughts and ideas of the main character,
Elisa, in this story. Elisa Allen is a lonesome woman who gets pleasure from growing her
chrysanthemums. Since her husband, Henry, is constantly working with the cattle in their farm, Elisa
never receives enough attention or any kind of affection. This neglect from her husband causes her to
turn to her chrysanthemums, which she ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Once again, the connection there is that he was interested in her flowers, meaning herself. The man
says, Kind of a long stemmed flower? Looks like a quick puff of colored smoke? ... That s it. What a
nice way to describe them. Elisa feels appreciated and attractive to this stranger after this comment.
His compliment to her about her flowers leads her to feel obligated to allow him to fix her pots. After
Elisa lets the tinker into the yard, she goes and gets a bright red flower pot. The fact that the pot is red
is important here because red is a symbol of power and passion. At this point in the story, Elisa is
starting to feel her own power. She is understanding she can bring forth life in her flowers, even if she
is not powerful in other aspects of her life. Also, since the encounter with the man is likened to a
sexual experience, the red flower pot is significant of their passion for one another, while the pot is
symbolic of herself and her feelings. When Elisa is digging up the flowers to put in the pot, Steinbeck
comments that The gloves were forgotten now . This part of the story is when she is coming to the
height of her experience with the salesman. Digging in the dirt is raw and it makes her feel free. While
she was being sexually frustrated Elisa in the beginning of the story, and covering her hands with
gloves, now she has been liberated. After she explains about the how to care for the fragile

Beyond The Mason Jar Analysis
Beyond the Mason Jar is not just a magazine, it is a project that I put a significant amount of thought
and passion into. The Zero Waste Movement is a movement that I actively participate in and deeply
value in my life. I certainly did not want to write a magazine about something I had no prior interest
in. Not to say that creating a magazine about completely new information wouldn t be interesting in
some way, but rather that I was able to really invest myself into the topic I chose because of my close
relationship with the topic. Through the creation of Beyond the Mason Jar, I was also able to discover
some qualities about the ZWM that I hadn t noticed before. When crafting this piece of rhetorical

I included a quote by Mother Teresa that I love and felt accurately expressed my purpose for the
magazine. I love her use of the analogy, I can cast a stone .... to create many ripples. I think one of the
things that I lot of people either in or joining the ZWM is the struggle for perfection and impact
(myself included). It can be really daunting when you see pictures of waterways overwhelmed by
plastic debris in other developing countries or a video of a plastic straw stuck in the nose of a poor sea
turtle (that is another story in itself). I think it is vital for the readers to realize that we can only do so
much to aid in situations like those. However, I want to show them that the ripples we cast do make a
difference. I have found that to be very true in my life. Every time someone tells me they think of me
because of some plastic they threw away or something they did to be more sustainable, the fire in my
heart grows exponentially. That is the power that I want the reader to realize they have. Next, the
couple of advertisements that I included in my magazine are sort of akin to transitions. I created both
of them from products that I use in my life and paired them with rather bleak statistics to persuade the
reader to think twice about the disposable products in our

The Grimm Brothers Essay
The Grimm Brothers
Any good fairy tale may captivate a child s (or adult s) mind, but few could argue that, to be truly
enchanting, a tale needs great illustrations. Two of the most influential fairy tale tellers in history were
the German Grimm brothers, Jacob and Wilhelm. Both very intelligent scholars, they knew how to
spin a tale in the most effective way possible. However, they had plenty of work just dealing with the
tales text, so in the area of illustration, they let their younger brother Ludwig take over, beginning with
the second edition of their fairy tales.
The fifth child of six in the Grimm family, Ludwig, who was always called Louis, did not necessarily
follow in the scholarly footsteps of his two older brothers. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
His landscapes included tranquil pastoral views from his home principality of Hesse Kassel and busy
urban scenes from cities like Berlin. He also pictured the interiors of buildings and gardens, often with
grand parties and important meetings shown in their midst. Showing an interest in nature, Ludwig
even made drawings of some varieties of plants and insects. He worked in many styles and media, too,
ranging from rough sketches to detailed engravings, from blurred watercolors to meticulous drawings.
One of Ludwig s greatest artistic gifts was his ability to give very real personalities to the faces of his
subjects by using various facial expressions and a masterful command of the different positions and
characteristics of the eyes. This ability, along with his interest in nature and his use of a myriad of
subjects, including all types of people and landscapes, lent itself well to the illustration of fairy tales.
The second edition of the first volume of the Grimms Fairy Tales marked Ludwig s first involvement
with fairy tales. Achim von Arnim, who lent money, editing and publishing services, and advice to the
Grimms, had only one criticism of the enormously successful first edition of Fairy Tales: it needed
illustrations. The logical choice to fill this void in the second edition was Ludwig, who made a series
of engravings to accompany the text published in 1819. Since that book was published, nearly every

By the middle of the 1700 s, a significant organization took place. From New England to Georgia,
different groups of Baptists began to form churches. They had only one doctrinal requirement that
united them, i.e., the believer s baptism by full immersion in water; also, Baptists then had different
theological doctrinal beliefs. Notwithstanding, in the 1700 s, Baptist leaders sought to unify and
homogenize the Baptist theology; they founded colleges and formed associations. However, the cause
of religious liberty, was also a unanimous and significant characteristic that united the majority of
Baptists. Their participation within their communities distinguished from other denominations. The
Baptists were not contending for tolerance but for absolute religious liberty. Theirs demand was not
for their right only but for the right of all dissenters and non conformists as well. Some historians
affirm that religious liberty in America was accomplished due to the diligence of the American
Baptist, which now is proven to be the greatest contribution to American science and statecraft. 11
Significant Names of Baptist Leaders
New England marks the beginnings of the Baptist struggle for religious liberty. Baptist names such as:
Roger William, John Clark, and William Screven were significant figures that advanced the cause and

after her three brothers unfortunately died. The United Kingdom having held little direct political

ministerial appointments. She became a national icon, and was identified with strict standards of
personal morality. Eventually Victoria married Prince Albert, which was her first cousin, in 1840.

Sickle Cell Research Papers
Sickle cell disease affects millions of people worldwide. It is most common among people whose
ancestors come from Africa; Mediterranean countries such as Greece, Turkey, and Italy; the Arabian
Peninsula; India; and Spanish speaking regions in South America, Central America, and parts of the
Caribbean. Sickle cell disease is the most common inherited blood disorder in the United States,
affecting 70,000 to 80,000 Americans. The disease is estimated to occur in 1 in 500 African Americans
and 1 in 1,000 to 1,400 Hispanic Americans.
Today about 100,000 people have the disease known as sickle cell anemia. Even some famous people
such as Prodigy the rapper, and Miles Davis the musician currently are living with sickle cell anemia.

The only cure for this disease is a bone marrow transplant also known as stem cell transplant. This is
usually saved for patients who are under the age of 16, since the risks get larger with age. The other
treatments include medications such as : antibiotics, pain relieving medicines called Hydroxyurea .
When taken daily, hydroxyurea reduces the frequency of painful crises and might reduce the need for
blood transfusions and hospitalizations. Hydroxyurea seems to work by stimulating production of fetal
hemoglobin, a type of hemoglobin found in newborns that helps prevent the formation of sickle cells.
The bad side of Hydroxyurea is that it increases your risk of infections, and there is some concern that
long term use of this drug might cause problems later in life for people who take it for many years.
More study is needed and you should always ask your doctor if you are healthy enough to take it.
Blood transfusions are another option. This can increase the number of red blood cells that cause
anemia and makes the body weak and it can fight off other complications from the disease. Gene
therapy is a newer treatment that inserts a normal gene into the bone marrow of a person with sickle
cell anemia hoping for a result of normal hemoglobin but this process is still in an experimental stage.
Sickle cell anemia affects many people around the World in areas of Africa, the Middle East and
Spanish speaking countries to list a few.

Disadvantages Of Technology And Media
Impacts of Technology and Media Baym (2015), Murthy (2013), and Andrejevic (2013) together
demonstrate the advantages and disadvantages that technology and media have on today s society.
These three authors provide multiple thoughts that relate to each other, but also have different
outlooks on many other points. Social media allows the immediate spread of information. While
Twitter has negative effects on humans, some research shows that there it is possible to have positive
outcomes as well. Murthy (2013) focuses on how Twitter has helped shape communication in today s
world. Unlike most social media sites, Twitter uses a 140 character count to ensure messages are
concise. Translating complex thoughts into just one hundred or so words can be challenging for most,
but the message will turn out just as powerful, if not more. Baym (2015) stated that new technology
could have a positive impact on families In the context of contemporary digital media, the hope
remains that new communication technologies will bring families and loved ones together (p. 41). For
example, if a child had something to say to their parents that was very important, they might feel more
comfortable doing it through technology. People find it easier to text or post something rather than
saying it face to face because it gives people more time to choose the perfect wording. Once a person
say something verbally, there is no delete key to take back the words that were said. New forms of
technology and media are being used without forethought, which is causing mania, panic, and
misinformation. Baym (2013) proposes different theories to support the various consequences of
machines. Technological determinism being one of her perspectives, argues that machines change
humans (Baym, 2015, p. 27). An example of machines altering humans would be the constant desire
to have the newest technological device. Not only is it a negative aspect to be controlled by machines,
but it can also be detrimental to the human character to believe that in order to function properly one
must have the most advanced machine by their side. Similarly to Baym (2015), Andrejevic (2013)
discusses the dangers of infoglut in today s society. Infoglut

Minor Breaches Within The Boundary
Minor breaches in boundary such as briefly touching the clients hands to show support when they are
very emotional is considered insignificant and can sometimes be beneficial to client, however, major
breaches such as regularly answering client s call outside of workplace is more severe, and can be
harmful to client s treatment (Williams and Swartz, 1998). Britzman and Pitt (1996) described
transference as impression of unresolved past conflict with others that is projected into the new
interaction and relationship. Usher (2013) suggested that transference occurs when the client makes
fabricated connection to the therapist. Freud proposed that transference occurs unconsciously in two
ways: Template is when the client attempts to categorises all their later relationship based on the
earlier relationship; and repetition compulsion is when the client replays traumatic past relationship or
situation (Kahn, 2003). For example, if a client has a critical mother, then, they will categorise all
women of certain age and characteristics to that template. And client sees the therapist as the critical
mother and repetition causes them to act in certain ways to get the reaction they want from the
therapist. Freud found that transference occurs everywhere, and it is not isolated to just therapy
setting.
Freud found that all types of transference was indispensable for the therapist in understanding their
client s unconscious memories or wishes and gaining insight

He was still in the hole, but it seemed as if he were already outside. Although the idea of self value is more central and directly implied in The Woman in the Dunes, Murakami s After Dark investigates this idea as well. The protagonist Mari also realizes her self value through helping Dongli. Dongli s appreciation further gives her confidence and promotes her courage to reinvolve into society with a mature self. All the three steps for the successful pursuit of identity rely not on the passive environment but on the active interaction between the self and the others. • 5. Comparing Three Types Of Managers 2. Katzenbach and Kahn (2010) compare three types of managers in regard to motivation and pride building (p. 79). This is similar to the Blake and Mouton Managerial Grid. What insights from these categories of managers and the Grid can you use to motivate performance in yourself and others? Katzenbach and Khan believe there are three categories of manager: a good manager, a people person and a pride builder. A good manager is fair and rational working toward equality and efficiency. They focus on the development of individuals with potential using formal development plans. A people person is typically hands on and explains the reasoning behind their decision. This individual is easy to work with and uses their connections to create development opportunities for their favorites. A pride builder encourages staff to be actively involved in problem solving and empowers staff to pursue ideas. They strive to get the personal best effort from every team member and are often a role model for expected behaviors (2010). A good manager is focused on meeting metrics and mastering the processes often using a standardized approach for all employees. A people person creates a happy and social environment providing perks such as lunch and snacks. A pride builder realizes different approaches are needed for different individuals and tailors the motivation and pride building to the individual or specific groups. ABSTRACT This study examines the view that self awareness gradually develops with a shift from physical to psychological characteristics whilst the locus of self knowledge progressively transfers from others to the self. Previous research implementing semi structured self concept interviews to investigate self descriptions amongst young children of various age groups supported these findings, underpinning the theories of a gradual emergence and elaboration of the self as a subject and the self as an object of knowledge. In the current study, a comparison ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Rosenberg s (ibid) findings indicated that younger children tend to describe more physical activities and characteristics whilst this gradually develops to include relationships and interpersonal traits, eventually shifting to more inner qualities. Rosenberg (1979, as cited in: The Open University, 2010, pp. 21 22) also found that the locus of self knowledge gradually shifted from a reliance on another person as point of reference for judging themselves, towards the self. This study intends to investigate, and confirm, the findings of Rosenberg (1979, as cited in: The Open University, 2010, pp. 21 22) by analysing transcripts of semi structured interviews with two children aged eight and sixteen. This was done within the meaning of investigating the development of the self concept and the locus of self knowledge. METHOD Design The study is a comparison of the self descriptions provided by two young people during one to one semi structured self concept interviews. Participants Two participants participated in this study; an eight year old girl (Annie), and a sixteen year old boy (Adam). They were recruited by The Open University course team who approached a primary and secondary school in the Milton Keynes area (England), for volunteers whose parents signed the relevant consent form. A number of volunteers were interviewed but only two of these interviews were used for

  • 21. Implementation Of A Transitional Care Program Evaluation For a transitional care program evaluation, it is requisite to combine two separate theories to aid in addressing the problem of poor transitional care outcomes, the process of measuring outcomes, and the creation of recommendations for improvement. A middle range nursing theory, Transitions theory centers on the process of individuals transitions and addresses the barriers to and principles of successful transitional outcomes (Meleis, 2010). The theory is both descriptive and predictive, it can be used to further describe and define the problem of poor transitions and its barriers as well as identify outcomes that signal successful interventions in individuals (Meleis, Sawyer, Im, Messias, Schumacher, 2000). The indicators of successful interventions as defined by Transitions Theory can guide the selection of the types of outcomes to be measured by the program evaluation to ensure that outcomes that reflect transitional success are selected. Furthermore, the principles of healthy transitions identified by Transitions Theory will aid in the creation of recommendations for program improvement. Continuous quality improvement (CQI) will be joined with Transitions Theory in the program evaluation. Although originally developed by business managers, CQI is best known for its use in manufacturing settings, specifically in the automotive industry (Radawski, 1999). Comparing Kennedy And Roosevelt s Four Freedoms Both Roosevelt s Four Freedoms speech and Kennedy s inaugural address express helping the world obtain liberty, however Roosevelt s speech focuses on what the freedoms are, whereas Kennedy s speech focuses on what we should do about it. Though both of the speeches are given by respectable Presidents of the United States and discuss the topic of freedom, they are very differing in what they focus on when talking about liberty. Both Kennedy and Roosevelt wrote speeches on the topic of liberty and there are many similarities to the two, one in particular I found very interesting was This nation has placed its destiny in the hands and hearts of its millions of free men and women, and its faith in freedom under the guidance of God (FDR 276). They both believe that it is not our government that decides when freedom will happen, it is God that decides that. Another similarity between the two is that both express keeping the world free. Conservation of Linear Momentum Name Institution Table of contents Objective 2 Results and Graphs 2 Discussion 3 Summary and Conclusion 3 References 4 Data Sheet 4 Sample Calculations 6 Conservation of Linear Momentum Objective The primary goal of this experiment was to study the force that a jet generates on hemispherical, flat, and conical surfaces. Further, the experiment exposed students to the concept of linear momentum conservation by observing forces that a jet of water exerts on objects with different shapes. Results and Graphs Figure 1: Forces Acting on the x and y axis As can be seen, the forces that act on the x direction are caused by pressure at sections 1 and 2. Similarly, an expression that relates the conservation of linear momentum in the Y direction can be developed. Discussion Although the experiment was successful, some errors occurred during the experiment that made most values to deviate from the expected ones. Generally, both fixed and random errors were observed (Mitchell Worledge, 2015). The random errors, in this case, resulted into statistical fluctuations in the measured data because of the limitations in precision measurement. Additionally, the random errors occurred due to inability to take the same measurements as the expected ones. Furthermore, fixed errors were responsible for reduced inaccuracies in the values obtained (Valiani Caleffi, 2011). However, the best way to minimize random errors is by averaging ... Relationship Between Math And Math When people think math, most likely they will reminisce about sitting in a classroom solving problems that they did not want to solve because for many people math is a paradox. These thoughts go with calculations, numbers, formulas and disinterest. If I were asked to describe math, I can say that it is soulless. But what happens when you think about music and math? Well, there are all kinds of music that bring out many emotions out of us. When we listen we can get happy, sad, mad, we listen while we are driving, cleaning, running, and music can be present in many of our daily routines. Music has soul. Now, math and music seem like complete opposites. Although the connection is not obvious, math and music have a very close relationship. According to Michael Beer 1998, In the time of the ancient Greeks, mathematics and music were strongly connected. Music was considered as a strictly math discipline, handling with number relationships, ratios and proportions. In the quadrivium (the curriculum of the Pythagorean School) music was placed on the same level as arithmetic, geometry and astronomy (s. Figure1). This interpretation totally neglected the creative aspects of musical performance. Music was the science of sound and harmony. I walked over to help my dad pack thing. Once we finally packed everything When we drove out the driveway, I got a glimpse of the small green tree in our front yard. It is so little yet so full of life. That tree always seemed to grab my attention but I never really knew why. My family in Mexico, or more specifically my Tia Olga, says it is absolutely beautiful over there. Prior to this trip, the only time we went to Mexico was for new year s. But we stayed in the gated community. I wasn t able to comprehend how someone can think that Mexico is beautiful outside of the gated communities. I always asked myself How is Mexico beautiful? Crossing the border was a lot easier than I expected. Looking out the window, I saw nothing but stray dogs, homeless drunks, and people trying to sell old stuff. It wasn t the image of beautiful I had in my mind. It was around Christmas time so everyone had their worn nativity sets out. We kept driving through Tijuana for what seemed like hours. We stopped for tacos at a little stand on the side of the road. The tacos were delicious but the man who made them looked as if he had worked all day and night. While we ate I watched these two little kids play together. By the way they were arguing, I made the assumption that they were siblings. As I watched I saw them playing with toys that seemed centuries old. They had one doll and a doll house made of sticks. The longer I watched the less I started to see the flaws. They were so happy with the little they had. I was so mesmerized by the make shift doll house my parents asked if I was okay. Yeah, I m fine. Just tired I answered quickly. After we finished eating, we drove through more what seemed like deserted towns. All around me were houses made of tin and blankets, crops in front of peoples houses, and people begging for money. It was a sad thing to see, so I turned away, closed my eyes, and slowly fell asleep. When I woke up, we had arrived at my Tia Olga s house. For the quality of learning, the protection of beliefs of students and families, and for the safety of staff and students, I believe that the Halloween costume ban during school is still the correct decision. After the first read, it might seem like an innocent tale about a woman and her garden. However, upon further examination, the reader learns it is actually a story about a woman s desires and frustrations in her life. Steinbeck uses many examples, such as the flowers to symbolize the thoughts and ideas of the main character, Elisa, in this story. Elisa Allen is a lonesome woman who gets pleasure from growing her chrysanthemums. His compliment to her about her flowers leads her to feel obligated to allow him to fix her pots. After Elisa lets the tinker into the yard, she goes and gets a bright red flower pot. The fact that the pot is red is important here because red is a symbol of power and passion. At this point in the story, Elisa is starting to feel her own power. She is understanding she can bring forth life in her flowers, even if she is not powerful in other aspects of her life. Also, since the encounter with the man is likened to a sexual experience, the red flower pot is significant of their passion for one another, while the pot is symbolic of herself and her feelings. When Elisa is digging up the flowers to put in the pot, Steinbeck comments that The gloves were forgotten now . This part of the story is when she is coming to the height of her experience with the salesman. Digging in the dirt is raw and it makes her feel free. Two of the most influential fairy tale tellers in history were the German Grimm brothers, Jacob and Wilhelm. Both very intelligent scholars, they knew how to spin a tale in the most effective way possible. However, they had plenty of work just dealing with the tales text, so in the area of illustration, they let their younger brother Ludwig take over, beginning with the second edition of their fairy tales. He worked in many styles and media, too, ranging from rough sketches to detailed engravings, from blurred watercolors to meticulous drawings. One of Ludwig s greatest artistic gifts was his ability to give very real personalities to the faces of his subjects by using various facial expressions and a masterful command of the different positions and characteristics of the eyes. This ability, along with his interest in nature and his use of a myriad of subjects, including all types of people and landscapes, lent itself well to the illustration of fairy tales. The second edition of the first volume of the Grimms Fairy Tales marked Ludwig s first involvement with fairy tales. Achim von Arnim, who lent money, editing and publishing services, and advice to the Grimms, had only one criticism of the enormously successful first edition of Fairy Tales: it needed illustrations. When taken daily, hydroxyurea reduces the frequency of painful crises and might reduce the need for blood transfusions and hospitalizations. Hydroxyurea seems to work by stimulating production of fetal hemoglobin, a type of hemoglobin found in newborns that helps prevent the formation of sickle cells. The bad side of Hydroxyurea is that it increases your risk of infections, and there is some concern that long term use of this drug might cause problems later in life for people who take it for many years. • 39. Disadvantages Of Technology And Media Impacts of Technology and Media Baym (2015), Murthy (2013), and Andrejevic (2013) together demonstrate the advantages and disadvantages that technology and media have on today s society. These three authors provide multiple thoughts that relate to each other, but also have different outlooks on many other points. Social media allows the immediate spread of information. While Twitter has negative effects on humans, some research shows that there it is possible to have positive outcomes as well. Murthy (2013) focuses on how Twitter has helped shape communication in today s world. Unlike most social media sites, Twitter uses a 140 character count to ensure messages are concise. Translating complex thoughts into just one hundred or so words can be challenging for most, but the message will turn out just as powerful, if not more. Baym (2015) stated that new technology could have a positive impact on families In the context of contemporary digital media, the hope remains that new communication technologies will bring families and loved ones together (p. 41). For example, if a child had something to say to their parents that was very important, they might feel more comfortable doing it through technology. People find it easier to text or post something rather than saying it face to face because it gives people more time to choose the perfect wording. Once a person say something verbally, there is no delete key to take back the words that were said. New forms of technology and media are being used without forethought, which is causing mania, panic, and misinformation. Baym (2013) proposes different theories to support the various consequences of machines. Technological determinism being one of her perspectives, argues that machines change humans (Baym, 2015, p. 27). An example of machines altering humans would be the constant desire to have the newest technological device. Not only is it a negative aspect to be controlled by machines, but it can also be detrimental to the human character to believe that in order to function properly one must have the most advanced machine by their side.
