They would find gas station with a cheaper price. If the station lowered the amount of gasoline by
10% or 15%, there would be a line wrapped around the corner of that gas station. People would go out
of their way to buy cheap gas.
Total receipts and total revenue are determined by multiplying the price of the gas by the quantity
sold. If the demand for a product is elastic, the amount consumer s buy will go up and the price will be
lowered, but if inelastic, a lower price would mean a small increase in the quantity demanded. It
would not be enough if sales increased.
Substitutes and Compliments
Gas cannot be substituted. For food, which is a good, can be substituted. If the price of fish and butter
go up, buyers can switch to chicken and margarine. Small changes in the price of a product will cause
people to switch from one product to the other. When quantity like this sells in a particular store or
small store, the quantity changes drastically by the impact of store receipts, which tends to make the
demand elastic. The more changes in substitutes the more elastic it becomes, the less substitutes for
that particular product, the more inelastic the demand becomes.

Saddleback College Jazz Concert Report
The date was December 8th, 2017, I had the pleasure of seeing the Saddleback College Jazz Combos
perform at the McKinney Theater. The theater is quite large holding about 100~200 seats but seemed
to offer a good acoustic balance for the combos that played. Also, one can tell that it was the holiday
season by just entering the theater. It was festive as it was decorated with christmas trees with
christmas lights and the front was filled with light up flower vases. Furthermore, this concert is a
cumulation of different jazz students put into small groups and perform in front of an audience. This
concert also showcases their efforts as a group as well as differences in skill level amongst the
combos.
As for the first group, the Alvarado Combo consisted of a bass, piano, trombone, saxophone (switched
from alto to tenor after the first piece), and drums played two songs. While the titles of each song were
not disclosed, one of them is originally composed by the drummer and the trombone player, John and
Andrew respectively. In effort to classify this genre of music, it would fall under cool jazz as it stayed
in a relaxed tempo and lighter tone. This piece is paired well with the holiday season as it was upbeat.
One can imagine oneself opening gifts during this holiday season while drinking hot chocolate ...

displayed great control and maturity of their sound throughout their solos. The dexterity and mastery

In today s world, we have very advanced technology. There have been many new technological and
medical advancements as we entered the new century. The Internet allows us to shop, talk, and find
valuable information on very scarce topics, and even check stocks with a simple click of a button.
Medical advancements had recently been discovered on The Human Genome Projects, the first gene
was mapped and within a short period of time we will have mapped out all the genes in a human
chromosome. This is absolutely amazing because we will now be able to reveal the many causes of
serious deadly diseases. Throughout the years, we have gained the technology to send astronauts into

Brahe did not trust Kepler and worried that Kepler would surpass him and become more well known
than him. So Brahe assigned him the job of understanding the orbit of Mars because it gave Brahe
much difficulty, and would keep Kepler occupied while Brahe worked on his theory of the solar
system. Brahe also kept other data from Kepler hoping that he would be the one to discover the orbits
of the planets before Kepler did. In 1601, when Brahe died Kepler received all of Brahe s data.
Whether he obtained this data legally or not is still in debate today, however, it is fortunate that he
obtained this data. (Silverberg, 160)
When Kepler first began his work on the orbit of Mars he was under the assumption, as many
scientists were, that the planetary orbits were circular, and that the Sun was at the center of the orbits.
This type of system is called a heliocentric system. Also at this time only six planets were known.
When Kepler obtained Brahe s data he discovered that the orbits were not perfect circles, but instead
were ellipses that were only slightly flattened. The reason nobody else realized this was because the
orbits were so slightly elliptical that extensive investigation and data would be needed to show this. It
also turned out that the reason the orbit of Mars was very difficult to understand was because its orbit
was more eccentric than the other planets that Kepler and Brahe had data about. To understand a lot of

Apple s Strategies For Global Tax Minimization
APPLE S STRATEGIES FOR GLOBAL TAX MINIMIZATION
Intercompany transactions could occur across national borders, it would lead MNC companies to get
more exposure to the differences of the tax regulations between countries. This might lead MNC
companies to set up their objective to minimize their taxes through the use of discretionary transfer
prices. These issues are attracted the attention of the member of the U.S. senate, foreign governments
and international organization such as the OECD, G20 and European Union (EU).
Apple Inc. is one of the companies implementing tax minimization strategies to lower taxes. Apple
received a lot of criticism from various parties (media, governments, and international organizations).
It is because the estimation of tax savings from the company are very high as its worldwide earnings
are so high. Apple set up new companies in tax havens country and shifts the profit to those
companies. This article will give an explanation on how Apple Inc. lower its taxes through
international tax minimization strategies.
Apple profits is not generated from physical goods but from royalties of intellectual property like
patent. It is similar to other giant technology companies such as Google, Yahoo, Microsoft, Amazon,
and Hewlett Packard. It allows them to move their profits very easy to their subsidiaries in the lower
tax jurisdiction, since their products are downloadable and can be sold from anywhere around the
world. They don t need a physical store or

The Reason Why Germany Lost World War I
Throughout history, there are different groups that experienced worldwide hate. Countries did not feel
comfortable with them being in their country. The Jews and Muslims experience very similar hatred in
history. The hatred of the Jews occurred during the 1940s during the time of Hitler. Hitler felt they
were a threat to Germans and the superior race . During present time, the Muslims are experiencing
the same worldwide hate as the Jews, even though they are a religious group. The only difference
between the two is that Jews were more peaceful and a terrorist group named ISIS is giving the
Muslims a bad name worldwide. The Jews were persecuted because Hitler felt that they were the
reason why Germany was in such bad economic shape after World War I and they were also the reason
why Germany lost World War I. Hitler made this known to the world and different nations agreed with
him. But the Jews being the scapegoat began before Hitler became ruler of Germany. Jews have been
the scapegoat for many centuries. At one point England had Jews banned from their country. The
reason why nations blame Jews first is because they have been disliked for many years so it is easier
for countries to blame them than to admit when their country is at fault. Jews have been known to be
the chosen ones and to be economically stable (have money) so when the economy collapsed in
Germany after World War I, Jews where immediately blamed. The hatred of Jews started in 1933
when Germany began

After WWII political avant garde films flourished. These social documentaries challenged political
institutions that oppressed the many for the benefit of the few and called for political change taking up
causes from feminist movement to Civil rights (Benson 8). This call to action is what Grierson thought
documentary films were missing.
At the end of the war, the development of lightweight synchronous sound equipment technology
allowed unique behind the scene views of political events creating cinema verité movements from 50 s
to the 70 s. Additionally, long form social documentaries gained popularity on public television in the
United States. Series such as Frontline (1883 present) revealed the public façade politicians were
presenting the American people by creating a national dialogue about the war on terror, public
institutions, political ties to big oil by showing the backstage political action which took place
(Benson 8).
Technological advances are what define the new political documentary because it allows filmmakers
to break away from constraints of traditional mass media, which often limits the rhetoric of political
documentaries. New technology enabled quality films to be made on lower budgets that are good
enough and interest sufficiently intense that the films were shown in theater and television which
provided legitimacy and visibility before quickly being released on DVD and VHS, (Benson

The California Gold Rush And Divorce
Which marriages meet the requirements for dissolution is defined by legal standards. Over the last 200
years, the grounds for divorce in Western societies have expanded. These expansions have made
divorce more accessible. Although the divorce rate has increased, there is not a clear link between the
accessibility and this increase. Other key influences effecting divorce rates include economic, social,
cultural, demographic and institutional factors.
Numerous states enacted divorce legislation in the 1780s and 90s. Generally, divorce laws were more
liberal in the West than they were throughout the rest of the nation.

Mind Body Dualism
In The Concept of Mind, Gilbert Ryle labels the theory for mind body dualism as The Dogma of the
Ghost in the Machine (Ryle, 5). The argument for mind body dualism states that two substances exist:
physical substances and mental substances. Physical substances are composed of matter (Ryle, 3).
Moreover, physical substances are beings like bodies; they have a spatial location, but they cannot
think. In comparison, mental substances consist of consciousness (Ryle, 3). Mental substances are
beings like minds; they can think, but they do not have a spatial location. Furthermore, the theory for
mind body dualism states that every living person has both a mind, which is a mental substance, and a
body, which is a physical substance, and that the mind interacts with the body. Thus, when Ryle
speaks of the ghost in a machine, he is referring to the idea that there exists a mental substance, a
mind, which exists inside of the body, a physical substance. The mind is the ghost, which is inside the
body, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Moreover, analytic behaviorism is the idea that it is a specific behavior, the statements or claims an
individual makes, that an individual s mental state(s) can be explained. Analytic behaviorists hold that
claims about mental states analytically entail (Handout 3) a disposition to act in a specific manner.
This means that claims about mental states are the consequence of a specific mental state. For
example, if Donald Trump says I have a desire for soda , then one can reasonably deduce that Donald
Trump is likely to drink a soda that Trump has a behavioral disposition to drink soda. An analytic
behaviorist holds the view that Donald Trump s assertion for a desire of soda is a consequence of the
mental state of wanting soda. There is no ambiguity in what Donald Trump is asserting. The assertion
is a consequence of the

The Minds Of Humans Are Imperfect
The minds of humans are imperfect. It is for this reason that it is often easy to mistake fantasies and
reality. Fantasies can be described as wishful thinking, as imagining something perfect and they may
or may not have their roots based on reality. Therefore, reality is what we can deduce from the fives
senses and experience. In Don Quixote, by Miguel de Cervantes, many different kinds of women are
encountered throughout the adventures of Don Quixote. There are poor peasants, rich vassals,
prostitutes, and even shepherdess. Women in this novel seem to fall under either women of fantasy or
as a women of reality. There is a stark difference between the two groups of women, but sometimes
they are so sublime that they may even jump between women of fantasy and those of reality. Dorotea,
the rich peasant and wife of the nobleman Don Fernando, and Luscinda, a very wealthy women and
wife to Cardenio, would fall explicitly into the category of sublime women which can transcend from
reality to fantasy and work their way between either realm. Dulcinea and Aldonza Lorenza fall into
categories the very contrasting categories of fantasy and reality, respectively. Therefore, Luscinda,
Dorotea, and Dulcinea serve as the fantastical ideals that men desire women to be, but truth of the
matter is that most women of the time were what Aldonza Lorenzo was a women of reality.
As far as the most ordinary woman of the three fantastical women of part I, Luscinda is the one that
most fits that

within the cabin of the vehicle for adequate room for C4ISR, additional equipment, and personnel.
The increased height required increases in the length and width adding 14 inches and 10 inches
accordingly. Unlike the HMMV the JLTV has a bolted A structured capsule within an integrated sub
frame that adds additional ballistic protections for the occupants. These attributes and characteristics
increase the movement, force protection, and C4ISR of Soldiers of the brigade as they execute their

of all its assigned, attached, and operational controlled units in order to provide sustainment
throughout its area of operation. In order for the brigade to meet this requirement ahead of and during
its upcoming deployment the replacement of one third of its HMMV with JLTV is intended to fill a

through how each unit will be employed throughout the battlespace. The units that are maneuvering

Advantages and Disadvantages of Arbitration
Arbitration or Litigation?
THE REASONS FOR CHOOSING ARBITRATION OVER LITIGATION
Over the last few decades, as the trade, commerce and investment has developed and evolved in an
international aspect throughout the world, the necessity of an alternative resolution for the disputes
arising between the parties involved in international business has occurred. From that necessity,
international arbitration has emerged as a remedy, which is a method for dispute resolution between
states, individuals and corporations providing an effective way of obtaining a final and binding
decision on a dispute without reference to a court of law. With this, the controversial question
regarding the advantages and disadvantages of arbitration over ... Show more content on
Helpwriting.net ...
On the other hand, the privacy of arbitral proceedings, and the confidentiality that surrounds the
process, is a powerful attraction to companies and institutions that may become involved (often
against their will) in legal proceedings. In this respect, as another advantage of arbitration,
confidentiality plays an important role in a party s decision to choose arbitration over litigation, as
parties usually desire to keep a dispute and its resolution confidential.
Another advantageous characteristic of arbitration is the continuity of role. In arbitration, the arbitral
tribunal deals with only that specific case subject to the arbitration and follows it from the beginning
to the end. With this, the arbitral tribunal gets the opportunity to know the parties, the case, the
pleadings and the evidences.
When all the above mentioned characteristics of arbitration are taken in to consideration, it can be said
that, arbitration as a dispute resolution method is much more advantageous than litigation. With it s
characteristics such as neutrality, enforceability, flexibility, continuity of role and confidentiality,
arbitration is a much more effective method as the current national courts jurisdictions has not
sufficient instruments to meet the needs of today s business world.

Disadvantages Of Securitization
As securitization seems to be a lucrative way for banks to not only enhance liquidity and diversify risk
but also improves their performance considerable incentive problems occurred during the turmoil and
among the different parties. Those incentive problems led to information asymmetries and moral
hazard among the involved stakeholders .As the Bank/Originator creates reference pool sells them to
the bankruptcy remote trust (such as Fannie Mae or Freddie Mac) Bankruptcy remote trust buys
reference pool and securitizes it sells them to the capital market where potential investors exists to
purchase securities purchase of securities by investors 6 gap between mortgage originators and
investors increases, it reduces the incentives for lenders to screen mortgage applicants thoroughly.
During the turmoil banks had more and better information about the Mortgage Backed Securities and
their performance value in contrast to third parties as they knew more about the mortgage applicant
and the underlying mortgage loan .As bank incentives are to issue more mortgage loans and then sell
them to bankruptcy remote trusts to securitize them, they did not bear the risk of the mortgage default

The Benefits Of Gay And Lesbians In The Military
In addition, all people should be allowed to serve freely in the military. If gay, lesbian and bisexual
people are willing to serve and die for their country, they shouldn t hide their sexual orientation. Gay
and lesbian Americans are anxiously willing to serve the country but they also want to reveal their true
identity as homosexuals. And for the first time ever, they will be able to openly join the army. Brave
men and women currently serving in the army will have the opportunity to come out freely and to be
honest with their companions about whom they are and who they love. Therefore, nationalistic
Americans in uniform will no longer have to lie about who they are in order to serve the country they
love. And the armed forces will no longer lose its remarkable skills and combat experience of so many
gay and lesbian service members.
Today, every American can be honored that we have taken another great step toward keeping our
military the finest in the world and toward fulfilling our nation s founding ideals. Many countries
prohibited gays and lesbians from serving openly in the armed forces. The reasons to implement this
prohibition, included the hidden negative bounce on unit cohesion and confidential concerns.
However, many studies were charged to examine the effects on the military, and found that little
evidence existed to support the prejudiced policy. Moreover, when the ban was abolished in several

Narrative Essay About My Smile
On the road to a new smile on July 21st of the 2009. It felt like a normal Friday, but, I woke up a little
nervous knowing it was the day I would get my braces on. Growing up I noticed that my smile was
not like the other kids smiles. The other kids were losing teeth and bigger teeth would move into the
missing spaces. Their top teeth were all over the bottom straight and their smiles full of teeth. But I
was different, my bottom teeth covering my top, many spaces where teeth should be. Before we left
for the Orthodontist my mom made me stand in front of a wall for a picture of my smile before the
braces were put on. Walking through the doors of Kozlowski Orthodontist in East Lyme my heart
racing, not because I was nervous but because I was finally going to be able to have that perfect smile
I ve always wanted. When my mom, brother and I walked in we were all expecting a typical dental
office, like my dad s office, boring old waiting rooms with chairs that look like they are from ancient
history. But instead it was surprisingly very kid friendly, the chairs where fun colors and there were
kids my age there too. Kids with braces, kids getting braces and kids who just got their braces off.
Some were younger than me waiting for their siblings, while their parents talked to other parents.
While waiting for the Doctor we checked out the waiting room full of kids playing games. The first
thing my brother and I saw was that they had two mario wii games in the waiting room. At that

Essay about Neglect Poem Analysis
Feelings of Neglect
Neglect by R.T Smith explains the feelings of neglect by using imagery, metaphor, and connotation.
This poem talks about a path of neglect that a man followed that led to the destruction of his red apple
tree. The narrator put too much of his time and attention on his other marvels to not put it into the
apple tree as well. Therefore his red apple tree, though thought to be inevitable, died and filled the
narrator with regret. A regret that appears to haunt the author, and fills him with sorrow. One of the
literacy devices used in Neglect is imagery. Towards the beginning of the poem, the author uses it in
the following quote, skew the sap s / passage, blacken leaves, dry the bark and heart (lines 5 6). ...

A second example of a metaphor is found when the author writes, Smoke is all, ... ,/ I ve been given to
remember (21 22). This is an example of a metaphor because it is comparing the smoke to death and
how he was too blinded by the other blessings he had received, and now regrets it. It connects with the
meaning of the poem because it shows how if something is neglected too much, it will eventually
disappear and come back to haunt the neglecter, and the only memories that will be left to remember it
by is the smoke that it leaves behind. The third literacy device that was found throughout the poem is
connotation, which the author uses frequently in the poem. The first quote is, Is the scent of apple
boughs smoking in the woodstove what I will remember... (1 4). The word smoke in this poem is a
connotation because it carries a meaning of sadness and death. In every quote the author has it in it
brings a feeling of sadness and how he was too blind to see that death was on the verge for his loved
apple tree. It connects with the poem with its ability to change the mood from what seemed to be the
author becoming happier, back to the depressing tone that was throughout the poem. It kept reminding
the reader of the fateful death that the tree went through and the author s sadness. The second
connotation is later in the same sentence, ... of the Red Delicious I brought down... (1 4). The phrase
Red Delicious is said twice

Lily Owens Quotes
Sue Monk Kidd has introduced very complex, yet simple characters that can be easily related to by
many readers of the novel. Rosaleen has a tough exterior, but truly cares for Lily Owens, as T.Ray
Owens is unpleasant, and considered to be abusive toward Lily. Further on, we have Zachary Taylor, a
handsome, charismatic football player while working for August in her honey house develops feelings
for Lily, as there s June Boatright with a heart of gold, yet is distrusting in regards to Lily at first.
These character are just a few of the many that entail the plot, and make them relatable. Although, like
I said Sue Monk Kidd has developed many character that we can relate to, I believe I relate to Lily
Owens the most in The Secret Life of Bees. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She is expressed as dealing with teenage problems if I do say so myself a lot of issues that most
teenagers have: identity, popularity, self consciousness, and parental issues. The 14 year old
throughout her story feels a deep sense of longing for her mother as she did not know her, because she
died when Lily was only 4 years old. In Chapter 1, Lily talks about how she misses her mother, and
how she feels completely responsible for the fact that she doesn t have her. This quote, This is what I
know about myself. She was all I wanted. And I took her away, is significant to the whole plot,
because it helps us understand one of Lily s main concerns and desires. I myself have lost a parent at a
very young age, and struggled to comprehend what happened, and how it would effect me through the
course of my life. Lily Owens notices that she does not fit and is held back from that fact that her

Robin Charboneau is a Native American woman in her early 30 s. Her birth name was Conte Waste
Win, which means Kind Hearted Woman in Dakota. Her maiden name was Robin Poor Bear, given to
her by her mother Emma Poor Bear. Robin is Dakota Native American, along with her family. She
was 32 when the documentary, Kind Hearted Woman, started filming. She has 2 children, Darian
Charboneau and Anthony Charboneau IV. Robin currently lives in Spirit Lake Nation, Lake Totten,
North Dakota; This is a Dakota/Sioux reservation. She is married to Darren Spoon, her significant
other.
She was referred by the movie because of depression issues stemming from her abuse as a child, and
her diagnosis of depression. She also must raise 2 kids while their father, Anthony Charboneau III, is
in prison. My initial feeling is Robin has been coping very well, considering all the trauma that has
happened with and around her. She has a lot of strength. She does still have a few things to work on,
such as her depression (which will be a life long battle because of all the trauma she has experienced).

Difference Between Public And Public Health Care
Health care is often seen as an important topic in political terms, more specifically people are
concerned about public vs. private health care. Public health care is often associated with welfare state
liberalism, this is because public health care is generally provided through the government and
national healthcare systems. The welfare state system is one that focuses on the physical and economic
well being of it s citizens. In contrast to this, the private health care system is associated with neo
conservatism. This is because neo conservatism has principles which include wanting to keep their
funds within the country and not altered by outside influences, as well, they tend to distrust
international organizations such as the United Nations. Throughout the paper there will be evidence
and examples to explain each system and how they are related to either the welfare state or neo
conservatism. The citizens of each country, these being Canada and the United States, both have their
own ideas of which system would be favourable. Canada s health care system is public, this means
that Canada is associated with welfare state liberalism. For example, Ontario has their own insurance
plan called Ontario Health Insurance Plan, which is otherwise known as OHIP. OHIP does not allow
for charging or selling private insurance to cover medically necessary services that are covered by
OHIP. The National Health Institute has been influenced by the constitution in the way which they

Hindu Nationalism And Its Impact On India
of India, due to which it remained marginalized as an electoral post (not social post) for a while. The
primary support of Hindu Nationalism comes from the Northern and Western parts of India. Being a
center right movement, it is seen to have major differences with Congress. They are driven by
ideology and faith, and are traditionally conservatives. It is seen that they are able to mobilize a large
section of the population who trust leaders and parties that use religion as a mobilizing factor. India
being a Hindu majority country, has a large Hindu religious voter base and the BJP over the year have
been able to mobilize on this portion of the population who are driven by the idea of Hindu
nationalism. It is important to remember that even though the Hindu nationalism movement was
marginalized electorally during the early years after the Independence, it remained strong and
influential throughout society and over there years gradually gained support and electoral posts in
Indian politics. The BJP is a party of the strong, meaning that it is an organization run by the educated
upper class and is backed by political and economic elites. It follows a dual targeting voter strategy, in
which the Party politics takes care of the interests of the upper class (consisting of business and
political elites), and then there are social organizations in place that do charity and other social work
that takes care of the poor. The BJP as a party has an organization centric party structure.

Encoding Specificity is very important in understanding...
Encoding Specificity is very important in understanding how memory is retrieved and stored. Memory
is easier to be recalled when this information is encoded. The encoding specificity is best understood
by looking at the associations between contextual cues that were formed during the encoding and the
information that needed to be encoded in the memory. Most encoding specificity is associated with
cue recall of specific episodic memory (Wardell Read, 2013). Encoding specificity has cues that help
associate it with the target that is being presented. This helps because they can retrieve information
that was stored in their memory. By encoding specificity, the cue helps them search their memory to
remember what the target was. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In this study, alcohol expectancies follow the cues that are part of the drinking context. This many
become involved with alcohol expectancy memories. The idea of cue induced activation of alcohol
expectancies is more likely to be involved with positive and not negative expectancies. It is thought
that encoding specificity suggests that activation of certain information in the memory is best recalled
when the cues is strongly connected with the information that is being encoded. They focused their
study on heavy drinkers because they have more contextual information about alcohol then other
people (Wardell Read, 2013). Looking at another study by Vogt and Bröder following what Starns and
Hicks (2005) did with their study. Starns and Hicks discussed mismatching versus matching and
which was better for retrieving information. They had a variety of different matching. They had people
distinguish the match between the presentation sources in items and the test phase. Encoding
specificity explains that matching is better than mismatching in one dimension and should increase
retrieving time (Vogt Bröder, 2007). This explains that pair of words are easier to be remembered
when they are different. If the pairs are similar, it is harder to recall what the information was that was

Gram Negative Unknown Lab Report Essay
Abstract The main idea of this experiment was to correctly identify the unknown bacteria, #3.
Identification of unknown bacteria yields multiple benefits in many different areas in the research of
microorganisms. In this experiment I performed many different test dealing with things such as the
presence of enzymes, fermentation abilities and different chemical reactions. Observations made from
the tests were then compared to a gram negative unknown chart in order to identify the bacteria. Based
off of my results and the chart, I concluded the bacteria #3 was the bacteria Escherichia coli. E. coli is
most commonly found in the intestines of warm blooded organisms. Most E. coli strands are non

In the Voges Proskauer test, I inoculated the tube with bacteria from my TSA plate and incubated the
tube at 37 degrees Celsius for 3 days. After three days I placed some Barrits Reagent A and Barrits
Reagent B in the test tube. The color change of red or pink indicates a positive reaction for acetoin
which tells you that the organism is a butanediol fermentor. For the Urease test, I incoluated my Urea
test tube with my unkown bacteria from a TSA plate using and inoculating loop. The Urea tube was
then incubated at 37 degrees Celsius for 8 days to observe for a color change. The Urea tests for the
ability of a bacteria grown in urea broth produces urease. This medium contains the pH indicator
phenol red. If urease is produced the pH of the media will raise thus causing the phenol red to change
from yellow to a pink color. I used an inoculating needle to stab the SIM test tube and then incubated
it at 37 degrees Celsius for 24 hours. The SIM test was used to test whether an organism has the
ability to reduce sulfur to hydrogen sulfide. Iron salts in the media reacts with the hydrogen sulfide to
form a black precipitate called ferric sulfide. If sulfur can be reduced than a black color will be seen in
the tube. This test also sees if an organism is and indole producer. Indole producers are bacteria that
produce the enzyme trytophanase which can hydrolyze tryptophan to pyruvate, ammonia and indole.

Native American Perspective on Indian Removal Act
In May 1830, Congress passed the Indian Removal Act which forced Native American tribes to move
west. Some Indians left swiftly, while others were forced to to leave by the United States Army. Some
were even taken away in chains. Andrew Jackson, the seventh president of the United States, strongly
reinforced this act. In the Second State of the Union Address, Jackson advocated his Indian Policy.
There was controversy as to whether the removal of the Native Americans was justified under the
administration of President Andrew Jackson. In my personal opinion, as a Native American, the
removal of the tribes was not in any way justified.
The removal of the Native Americans was an egocentric move on Jackson s part. Jackson was only

Jackson felt the removal of the Cherokees from our land was justified because the government was
paying for everything. Money can not compensate for the blood that was shed by our ancestors.
When some Indian tribes did not leave the land, federal troops came to Georgia to remove the tribes
forcibly. Cherokees resisted leaving their land until the bitter finish. Cherokees were marched by
gunpoint which was known as the infamous Trail of Tears. Many died due to the horrid conditions,
including my great grandmother. Any sensible person would have considered the consequences of
these actions. Jackson tried to make the trade seem peaceful and reasonable, but there is nothing sane
about the Trail of Tears. The consequence of a speedy removal will be important to the United States,
and to the Indians themselves (91). If Jackson really cared about our well being, like he claimed, why
would he allow the horrific Trail of Tears to persist? This exhibits Jackson s insincerity and disregard
for the inhuman conditions my ancestors had endure.
A main argument Andrew Jackson had was that the Indian Removal Act was only a continuation of a
change that was already happened, The present policy of the government is but a continuation of the
same progressive change by a milder process (93). He then continued to state how the tribes that
previously occupied the eastern states were annihilated to make room for the whites. This was a

Gladiator Accuracy
What can be said about the accuracy of the historical references in the movie Gladiator? Gladiator is
both accurate and inaccurate in its historical perception of the Roman Empire in AD 180. First, we
will focus on the inaccuracies and accuracies of the Romans military strategies and weapons portrayed
in Gladiator. There was no last great battle with the Germanic tribes on the eve of Marcus Aurelius
death. There was a big battle that took a whole day to achieve victory late in the campaigning season
of AD 179, but Marcus Aurelius died the following year. There is no record of the Roman commander
Maximus and his war dog, and if there was a war dog, it would have not been a German Shepherd, as
that is a breed that did not exist in Antiquity. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In Gladiator, no more than two years pass during Commodus reign. It is true however that Commodus
was fascinated by chariot racing, beast hunting, naval battles, and gladiatorial fights; and he also
trained himself the skills and fought in the public arena as a secutor. Commodus eldest living sister,
Lucilla, did plot with a couple of senators to kill him in the first two years of his reign. The movie
accurately indicates that she had been married to Marcus former co emperor, Lucius Verus. Lucilla s
son, Lucius Verus, is completely made up, as Lucilla was left with only a daughter who was engaged
to Claudius Pompeianus Quintianus. Both this daughter and Claudius Quintianus participated in the
plot to kill Commodus, but they are not seen in the movie. Except for a love of the games, the movie s
Commodus is barely historically accurate. In the movie, he appears to be in his late twenties, is of
average build, has dark hair, and is right handed. In reality, Commodus was only eighteen when
Marcus died, had a very strong physique, had blond hair, and was left handed. He was also not single,

Analysis Of The Poem Porphyria s Lover
Love can purely take an over a man, and drive him crazy. Robert Browning, demonstrates Porphyria s
Lover as a terrifying love story given from a lunatic s point of view. It is the story of a man who is so
obsessed with Porphyria that he decides to keep her for himself. In this poem however, we find that
this poem is more than just about a lunatic, and his obsession, but rather find ourselves in the midst of
a poem more depth. First, we can see how the role of nature can express the mood of the poem. We
find that Browning uses many poetic devices such as imagery, meter and rhyme to give the poem that
horrifying, spine chilling feeling. Also how Porphyria s Lover is interesting because of the importance
of class and society during the Victorian era. Browning is known for his dramatic monologues, but in
this poem, it s the reader s takes ability to make inferences as well as to analyze the speaker s attitude
towards Porphyria since he does not give any background information of himself or the women she is
obsessed with, Porphyria. The Poem begins with a description of the weather, telling us that it is night,
and the rain has just settled in. We know things are soon to change when the poem tells us that the
sullen wind was soon awake (Browning 2), then tells us it tore the elm tops down for Spite (3). the
storm is being personified with such words as sullen , awake and spite that make it feel that the

The Importance Of Personal Privacy
Warrantless searches of a student s person raise significant legal questions. Unlike locker searches, it
cannot be asserted that there is a lower expectation of privacy. Students have a legitimate expectation
of privacy in the contents of their pockets and their person. The Fifth Circuit noted: The Fourth
Amendment applies with its fullest vigor against any intrusion on the human body. In personal
searches, not only is it necessary to have reasonable cause to search, but also the search itself must be
reasonable. Reasonableness is assessed in terms of the specific facts and circumstances of a case.
Metal Detectors. Metal detectors are used in airports and many public buildings, but their use does
constitute a search for Fourth Amendment purposes. General scanning of students with metal detectors
is only minimally intrusive on students Fourth Amendment rights when weighed against school
officials interest in providing a safe school environment.
Metal detectors became more commonplace in school environments in the 1990s causing their
constitutionality to be challenged. However, courts soon clarified that individualized suspicion was
not needed for schools to use of metal detectors. For example, the Pennsylvania high court upheld a
general, uniform search of all students for weapons as they entered the high school building; each
student s personal belongings were searched, and then a security officer scanned each student with a
metal detector. The court concluded that the

What Is A Representative Democracy
As stated in The Struggle for Democracy, the U.S. is a representative democracy, also known as a
republic (). In this system of government, unlike a direct democracy in which all citizens vote on all
public matters, elected representatives govern the people. The U.S. system consists of three separate
governing branches, executive, judicial, and legislative, which all hold checks and balances on one
another. These checks and balances were meant to ensure the U.S. would be as democratic as possible
and prohibit one branch from gaining too much power. Throughout America s history, the system has
predominantly been a success. In the world today, the United States is looked upon as a bastion for
democratic principles. The U.S. State Department itself ardently embraces the lofty goals of
promoting democracy around the world, assisting those in foreign lands who wish to establish
democracies, and denouncing regimes that deny citizens their rightful ability to conduct and
participate in free, fair, and transparent elections (). Americans at large also support democracy
enthusiastically. A myriad of citizen ardently proclaim the U.S. s democratic ideals and the freedoms
they allow qualify the U.S. to be the greatest country in the world. While parts of this is true the U.S.
is indeed a global advocate of spreading democracy and Americans enjoy many freedoms not privy to
citizens living under repressive regimes such as Saudi Arabia or Pakistan the American political

An Evolution Of User Participation
An Evolution of User Participation Roles in Software Development
We discuss in a little more detail the Struggle for Existence.
― Charles Darwin, The Origin of Species
Although information systems research has long recognized the crucial role of user participation in
developing better software, researchers have overlooked temporal dimension and dynamism
associated with participation. This study contributes a new scholarly conversation on the longitudinal
processes around how users influence software development in dynamic ways and how software
organizations enable them to do so. Using a multi year qualitative inquiry, we develop an evolutionary
approach that theorizes user participation roles at different stages of development with three concepts
of inheritance , modification , and survival . The evolutionary approach unpacks how user
participation roles are rooted deeply in the repetitive experience and the co evolution of developers
and users over time. The results suggest software organizations should devote attention to the
changing roles of user participation at different stages of development and design appropriate
processes to support these roles. We discuss the important implications of evolutionary approach for
theories of participation and engagement and for software organizations attempting to operate in the
uncertain and rapidly changing context of software development.

If the station lowered the amount of gasoline by 10% or 15%, there would be a line wrapped around the corner of that gas station. People would go out of their way to buy cheap gas. Total receipts and total revenue are determined by multiplying the price of the gas by the quantity sold. If the demand for a product is elastic, the amount consumer s buy will go up and the price will be lowered, but if inelastic, a lower price would mean a small increase in the quantity demanded. It would not be enough if sales increased. Substitutes and Compliments Gas cannot be substituted. For food, which is a good, can be substituted. If the price of fish and butter go up, buyers can switch to chicken and margarine. Small changes in the price of a product will cause people to switch from one product to the other. When quantity like this sells in a particular store or small store, the quantity changes drastically by the impact of store receipts, which tends to make the demand elastic. The more changes in substitutes the more elastic it becomes, the less substitutes for that particular product, the more inelastic the demand becomes. • 5. Saddleback College Jazz Concert Report The date was December 8th, 2017, I had the pleasure of seeing the Saddleback College Jazz Combos perform at the McKinney Theater. The theater is quite large holding about 100~200 seats but seemed to offer a good acoustic balance for the combos that played. Also, one can tell that it was the holiday season by just entering the theater. It was festive as it was decorated with christmas trees with christmas lights and the front was filled with light up flower vases. Furthermore, this concert is a cumulation of different jazz students put into small groups and perform in front of an audience. This concert also showcases their efforts as a group as well as differences in skill level amongst the combos. As for the first group, the Alvarado Combo consisted of a bass, piano, trombone, saxophone (switched from alto to tenor after the first piece), and drums played two songs. While the titles of each song were not disclosed, one of them is originally composed by the drummer and the trombone player, John and Andrew respectively. In effort to classify this genre of music, it would fall under cool jazz as it stayed in a relaxed tempo and lighter tone. This piece is paired well with the holiday season as it was upbeat. Brahe did not trust Kepler and worried that Kepler would surpass him and become more well known than him. So Brahe assigned him the job of understanding the orbit of Mars because it gave Brahe much difficulty, and would keep Kepler occupied while Brahe worked on his theory of the solar system. Brahe also kept other data from Kepler hoping that he would be the one to discover the orbits of the planets before Kepler did. In 1601, when Brahe died Kepler received all of Brahe s data. Whether he obtained this data legally or not is still in debate today, however, it is fortunate that he obtained this data. (Silverberg, 160) When Kepler first began his work on the orbit of Mars he was under the assumption, as many scientists were, that the planetary orbits were circular, and that the Sun was at the center of the orbits. This type of system is called a heliocentric system. Also at this time only six planets were known. When Kepler obtained Brahe s data he discovered that the orbits were not perfect circles, but instead were ellipses that were only slightly flattened. The reason nobody else realized this was because the orbits were so slightly elliptical that extensive investigation and data would be needed to show this. It also turned out that the reason the orbit of Mars was very difficult to understand was because its orbit was more eccentric than the other planets that Kepler and Brahe had data about. This might lead MNC companies to set up their objective to minimize their taxes through the use of discretionary transfer prices. These issues are attracted the attention of the member of the U.S. senate, foreign governments and international organization such as the OECD, G20 and European Union (EU). • 8. The Reason Why Germany Lost World War I Throughout history, there are different groups that experienced worldwide hate. Countries did not feel comfortable with them being in their country. The Jews and Muslims experience very similar hatred in history. The hatred of the Jews occurred during the 1940s during the time of Hitler. Hitler felt they were a threat to Germans and the superior race . During present time, the Muslims are experiencing the same worldwide hate as the Jews, even though they are a religious group. The only difference between the two is that Jews were more peaceful and a terrorist group named ISIS is giving the Muslims a bad name worldwide. The Jews were persecuted because Hitler felt that they were the reason why Germany was in such bad economic shape after World War I and they were also the reason why Germany lost World War I. Hitler made this known to the world and different nations agreed with him. But the Jews being the scapegoat began before Hitler became ruler of Germany. Jews have been the scapegoat for many centuries. At one point England had Jews banned from their country. The reason why nations blame Jews first is because they have been disliked for many years so it is easier for countries to blame them than to admit when their country is at fault. Jews have been known to be the chosen ones and to be economically stable (have money) so when the economy collapsed in Germany after World War I, Jews where immediately blamed. These social documentaries challenged political institutions that oppressed the many for the benefit of the few and called for political change taking up causes from feminist movement to Civil rights (Benson 8). This call to action is what Grierson thought documentary films were missing. At the end of the war, the development of lightweight synchronous sound equipment technology allowed unique behind the scene views of political events creating cinema verité movements from 50 s to the 70 s. Additionally, long form social documentaries gained popularity on public television in the United States. Series such as Frontline (1883 present) revealed the public façade politicians were presenting the American people by creating a national dialogue about the war on terror, public institutions, political ties to big oil by showing the backstage political action which took place (Benson 8). Technological advances are what define the new political documentary because it allows filmmakers to break away from constraints of traditional mass media, which often limits the rhetoric of political documentaries. New technology enabled quality films to be made on lower budgets that are good enough and interest sufficiently intense that the films were shown in theater and television which provided legitimacy and visibility before quickly being released on DVD and VHS, (Benson ... Over the last 200 years, the grounds for divorce in Western societies have expanded. These expansions have made divorce more accessible. Although the divorce rate has increased, there is not a clear link between the accessibility and this increase. • 11. Mind Body Dualism In The Concept of Mind, Gilbert Ryle labels the theory for mind body dualism as The Dogma of the Ghost in the Machine (Ryle, 5). The argument for mind body dualism states that two substances exist: physical substances and mental substances. Physical substances are composed of matter (Ryle, 3). Moreover, physical substances are beings like bodies; they have a spatial location, but they cannot think. In comparison, mental substances consist of consciousness (Ryle, 3). Mental substances are beings like minds; they can think, but they do not have a spatial location. Furthermore, the theory for mind body dualism states that every living person has both a mind, which is a mental substance, and a body, which is a physical substance, and that the mind interacts with the body. Thus, when Ryle speaks of the ghost in a machine, he is referring to the idea that there exists a mental substance, a mind, which exists inside of the body, a physical substance. This means that claims about mental states are the consequence of a specific mental state. • 12. The Minds Of Humans Are Imperfect The minds of humans are imperfect. It is for this reason that it is often easy to mistake fantasies and reality. Fantasies can be described as wishful thinking, as imagining something perfect and they may or may not have their roots based on reality. Therefore, reality is what we can deduce from the fives senses and experience. In Don Quixote, by Miguel de Cervantes, many different kinds of women are encountered throughout the adventures of Don Quixote. There are poor peasants, rich vassals, prostitutes, and even shepherdess. Women in this novel seem to fall under either women of fantasy or as a women of reality. There is a stark difference between the two groups of women, but sometimes they are so sublime that they may even jump between women of fantasy and those of reality. Dorotea, the rich peasant and wife of the nobleman Don Fernando, and Luscinda, a very wealthy women and wife to Cardenio, would fall explicitly into the category of sublime women which can transcend from reality to fantasy and work their way between either realm. Dulcinea and Aldonza Lorenza fall into categories the very contrasting categories of fantasy and reality, respectively. Therefore, Luscinda, Dorotea, and Dulcinea serve as the fantastical ideals that men desire women to be, but truth of the matter is that most women of the time were what Aldonza Lorenzo was a women of reality. THE REASONS FOR CHOOSING ARBITRATION OVER LITIGATION Over the last few decades, as the trade, commerce and investment has developed and evolved in an international aspect throughout the world, the necessity of an alternative resolution for the disputes arising between the parties involved in international business has occurred. From that necessity, international arbitration has emerged as a remedy, which is a method for dispute resolution between states, individuals and corporations providing an effective way of obtaining a final and binding decision on a dispute without reference to a court of law. On the other hand, the privacy of arbitral proceedings, and the confidentiality that surrounds the process, is a powerful attraction to companies and institutions that may become involved (often against their will) in legal proceedings. In this respect, as another advantage of arbitration, confidentiality plays an important role in a party s decision to choose arbitration over litigation, as parties usually desire to keep a dispute and its resolution confidential. Another advantageous characteristic of arbitration is the continuity of role. In arbitration, the arbitral tribunal deals with only that specific case subject to the arbitration and follows it from the beginning to the end. With this, the arbitral tribunal gets the opportunity to know the parties, the case, the pleadings and the evidences. When all the above mentioned characteristics of arbitration are taken in to consideration, it can be said that, arbitration as a dispute resolution method is much more advantageous than litigation. With it s characteristics such as neutrality, enforceability, flexibility, continuity of role and confidentiality, arbitration is a much more effective method as the current national courts jurisdictions has not sufficient instruments to meet the needs of today s business world. Those incentive problems led to information asymmetries and moral hazard among the involved stakeholders .As the Bank/Originator creates reference pool sells them to the bankruptcy remote trust (such as Fannie Mae or Freddie Mac) Bankruptcy remote trust buys reference pool and securitizes it sells them to the capital market where potential investors exists to purchase securities purchase of securities by investors 6 gap between mortgage originators and investors increases, it reduces the incentives for lenders to screen mortgage applicants thoroughly. Gay and lesbian Americans are anxiously willing to serve the country but they also want to reveal their true identity as homosexuals. And for the first time ever, they will be able to openly join the army. Brave men and women currently serving in the army will have the opportunity to come out freely and to be honest with their companions about whom they are and who they love. Therefore, nationalistic Americans in uniform will no longer have to lie about who they are in order to serve the country they love. And the armed forces will no longer lose its remarkable skills and combat experience of so many gay and lesbian service members. Today, every American can be honored that we have taken another great step toward keeping our military the finest in the world and toward fulfilling our nation s founding ideals. Many countries prohibited gays and lesbians from serving openly in the armed forces. The reasons to implement this prohibition, included the hidden negative bounce on unit cohesion and confidential concerns. However, many studies were charged to examine the effects on the military, and found that little evidence existed to support the prejudiced policy. • 17. Narrative Essay About My Smile On the road to a new smile on July 21st of the 2009. It felt like a normal Friday, but, I woke up a little nervous knowing it was the day I would get my braces on. Growing up I noticed that my smile was not like the other kids smiles. The other kids were losing teeth and bigger teeth would move into the missing spaces. Their top teeth were all over the bottom straight and their smiles full of teeth. But I was different, my bottom teeth covering my top, many spaces where teeth should be. Before we left for the Orthodontist my mom made me stand in front of a wall for a picture of my smile before the braces were put on. Walking through the doors of Kozlowski Orthodontist in East Lyme my heart racing, not because I was nervous but because I was finally going to be able to have that perfect smile I ve always wanted. When my mom, brother and I walked in we were all expecting a typical dental office, like my dad s office, boring old waiting rooms with chairs that look like they are from ancient history. But instead it was surprisingly very kid friendly, the chairs where fun colors and there were kids my age there too. Kids with braces, kids getting braces and kids who just got their braces off. Some were younger than me waiting for their siblings, while their parents talked to other parents. While waiting for the Doctor we checked out the waiting room full of kids playing games. • 21. Essay about Neglect Poem Analysis Feelings of Neglect Neglect by R.T Smith explains the feelings of neglect by using imagery, metaphor, and connotation. This poem talks about a path of neglect that a man followed that led to the destruction of his red apple tree. The narrator put too much of his time and attention on his other marvels to not put it into the apple tree as well. Therefore his red apple tree, though thought to be inevitable, died and filled the narrator with regret. A regret that appears to haunt the author, and fills him with sorrow. One of the literacy devices used in Neglect is imagery. Towards the beginning of the poem, the author uses it in the following quote, skew the sap s / passage, blacken leaves, dry the bark and heart (lines 5 6). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A second example of a metaphor is found when the author writes, Smoke is all, ... ,/ I ve been given to remember (21 22). This is an example of a metaphor because it is comparing the smoke to death and how he was too blinded by the other blessings he had received, and now regrets it. It connects with the meaning of the poem because it shows how if something is neglected too much, it will eventually disappear and come back to haunt the neglecter, and the only memories that will be left to remember it by is the smoke that it leaves behind. The third literacy device that was found throughout the poem is connotation, which the author uses frequently in the poem. The first quote is, Is the scent of apple boughs smoking in the woodstove what I will remember... (1 4). The word smoke in this poem is a connotation because it carries a meaning of sadness and death. In every quote the author has it in it brings a feeling of sadness and how he was too blind to see that death was on the verge for his loved apple tree. It connects with the poem with its ability to change the mood from what seemed to be the author becoming happier, back to the depressing tone that was throughout the poem. It kept reminding the reader of the fateful death that the tree went through and the author s sadness. The second connotation is later in the same sentence, ... of the Red Delicious I brought down... • 24. Difference Between Public And Public Health Care Health care is often seen as an important topic in political terms, more specifically people are concerned about public vs. private health care. Public health care is often associated with welfare state liberalism, this is because public health care is generally provided through the government and national healthcare systems. The welfare state system is one that focuses on the physical and economic well being of it s citizens. In contrast to this, the private health care system is associated with neo conservatism. This is because neo conservatism has principles which include wanting to keep their funds within the country and not altered by outside influences, as well, they tend to distrust international organizations such as the United Nations. Throughout the paper there will be evidence and examples to explain each system and how they are related to either the welfare state or neo conservatism. The citizens of each country, these being Canada and the United States, both have their own ideas of which system would be favourable. Canada s health care system is public, this means that Canada is associated with welfare state liberalism. For example, Ontario has their own insurance plan called Ontario Health Insurance Plan, which is otherwise known as OHIP. The primary support of Hindu Nationalism comes from the Northern and Western parts of India. Being a center right movement, it is seen to have major differences with Congress. They are driven by ideology and faith, and are traditionally conservatives. It is seen that they are able to mobilize a large section of the population who trust leaders and parties that use religion as a mobilizing factor. India being a Hindu majority country, has a large Hindu religious voter base and the BJP over the year have been able to mobilize on this portion of the population who are driven by the idea of Hindu nationalism. It is important to remember that even though the Hindu nationalism movement was marginalized electorally during the early years after the Independence, it remained strong and influential throughout society and over there years gradually gained support and electoral posts in Indian politics. The BJP is a party of the strong, meaning that it is an organization run by the educated upper class and is backed by political and economic elites. It follows a dual targeting voter strategy, in which the Party politics takes care of the interests of the upper class (consisting of business and political elites), and then there are social organizations in place that do charity and other social work that takes care of the poor. Memory is easier to be recalled when this information is encoded. The encoding specificity is best understood by looking at the associations between contextual cues that were formed during the encoding and the information that needed to be encoded in the memory. Most encoding specificity is associated with cue recall of specific episodic memory (Wardell Read, 2013). Encoding specificity has cues that help associate it with the target that is being presented. Starns and Hicks discussed mismatching versus matching and which was better for retrieving information. They had a variety of different matching. The new product YP Leads shall be a leads based product for Advertisers with the budget of $1,000/month to $10,000/month and provide dedicated campaign manager. The KPIs that I defined were No of Leads delivered, Churn %, Fulfillment time, etc. And the most important KPI was to fulfill the campaign deliver the leads to meet the expectations set at the point of sale. We tracked this as the % of Advertiser accounts that are on target for lead delivery, Traffic Acquisition Costs (TACs) and Delta between # of actual leads delivered from the # of expected leads. My task was to figure out how to reduce this Delta and deliver the leads to the Advertisers with minimizing TACs. Traditionally, most SEM products focus on only Google SEM spend. To deliver on the KPIs, initially, I proposed the idea of procuring leads from several Ad Sources. YP has several sources of leads from both external sources like Google/Yahoo/Bing/Facebook and internal sources from our direct traffic on YP.com/m.YP.com/YP Mobile App. This decision based on the learnings from Advertiser focus groups that it doesn t matter to the Advertiser where the leads came from as long as the leads are delivered and are of good ... • 35. What Is A Representative Democracy As stated in The Struggle for Democracy, the U.S. is a representative democracy, also known as a republic (). In this system of government, unlike a direct democracy in which all citizens vote on all public matters, elected representatives govern the people. The U.S. system consists of three separate governing branches, executive, judicial, and legislative, which all hold checks and balances on one another. These checks and balances were meant to ensure the U.S. would be as democratic as possible and prohibit one branch from gaining too much power. Throughout America s history, the system has predominantly been a success. In the world today, the United States is looked upon as a bastion for democratic principles. The U.S. State Department itself ardently embraces the lofty goals of promoting democracy around the world, assisting those in foreign lands who wish to establish democracies, and denouncing regimes that deny citizens their rightful ability to conduct and participate in free, fair, and transparent elections (). Americans at large also support democracy enthusiastically. A myriad of citizen ardently proclaim the U.S. s democratic ideals and the freedoms they allow qualify the U.S. to be the greatest country in the world. While parts of this is true the U.S. is indeed a global advocate of spreading democracy and Americans enjoy many freedoms not privy to citizens living under repressive regimes such as Saudi Arabia or Pakistan the American political system as a whole ... • 36. An Evolution Of User Participation An Evolution of User Participation Roles in Software Development We discuss in a little more detail the Struggle for Existence. ― Charles Darwin, The Origin of Species Although information systems research has long recognized the crucial role of user participation in developing better software, researchers have overlooked temporal dimension and dynamism associated with participation. This study contributes a new scholarly conversation on the longitudinal processes around how users influence software development in dynamic ways and how software organizations enable them to do so. Using a multi year qualitative inquiry, we develop an evolutionary approach that theorizes user participation roles at different stages of development with three concepts of inheritance , modification , and survival . The evolutionary approach unpacks how user participation roles are rooted deeply in the repetitive experience and the co evolution of developers and users over time. The results suggest software organizations should devote attention to the changing roles of user participation at different stages of development and design appropriate processes to support these roles. We discuss the important implications of evolutionary approach for theories of participation and engagement and for software organizations attempting to operate in the uncertain and rapidly changing context of software development.
