Saddleback College Jazz Concert Report
The date was December 8th, 2017, I had the pleasure of seeing the Saddleback College Jazz Combos
perform at the McKinney Theater. The theater is quite large holding about 100~200 seats but seemed
to offer a good acoustic balance for the combos that played. Also, one can tell that it was the holiday
season by just entering the theater. It was festive as it was decorated with christmas trees with
christmas lights and the front was filled with light up flower vases. Furthermore, this concert is a
cumulation of different jazz students put into small groups and perform in front of an audience. This
concert also showcases their efforts as a group as well as differences in skill level amongst the
combos.
As for the first group, the Alvarado Combo consisted of a bass, piano, trombone, saxophone (switched
from alto to tenor after the first piece), and drums played two songs. While the titles of each song were
not disclosed, one of them is originally composed by the drummer and the trombone player, John and
Andrew respectively. In effort to classify this genre of music, it would fall under cool jazz as it stayed

The new product YP Leads shall be a leads based product for Advertisers with the budget of
$1,000/month to $10,000/month and provide dedicated campaign manager. The KPIs that I defined
were No of Leads delivered, Churn %, Fulfillment time, etc. And the most important KPI was to fulfill
the campaign deliver the leads to meet the expectations set at the point of sale. We tracked this as the
% of Advertiser accounts that are on target for lead delivery, Traffic Acquisition Costs (TACs) and
Delta between # of actual leads delivered from the # of expected leads. My task was to figure out how
to reduce this Delta and deliver the leads to the Advertisers with minimizing TACs. Traditionally, most
SEM products focus on only Google SEM spend. To deliver on the KPIs, initially, I proposed the idea
of procuring leads from several Ad Sources. YP has several sources of leads from both external
sources like Google/Yahoo/Bing/Facebook and internal sources from our direct traffic on
YP.com/m.YP.com/YP Mobile App. This decision based on the learnings from Advertiser focus

What Is A Representative Democracy
As stated in The Struggle for Democracy, the U.S. is a representative democracy, also known as a
republic (). In this system of government, unlike a direct democracy in which all citizens vote on all
public matters, elected representatives govern the people. The U.S. system consists of three separate
governing branches, executive, judicial, and legislative, which all hold checks and balances on one
another. These checks and balances were meant to ensure the U.S. would be as democratic as possible
and prohibit one branch from gaining too much power. Throughout America s history, the system has
predominantly been a success. In the world today, the United States is looked upon as a bastion for
democratic principles. The U.S. State Department itself ardently embraces the lofty goals of
promoting democracy around the world, assisting those in foreign lands who wish to establish
democracies, and denouncing regimes that deny citizens their rightful ability to conduct and
participate in free, fair, and transparent elections (). Americans at large also support democracy
enthusiastically. A myriad of citizen ardently proclaim the U.S. s democratic ideals and the freedoms
they allow qualify the U.S. to be the greatest country in the world. While parts of this is true the U.S.
is indeed a global advocate of spreading democracy and Americans enjoy many freedoms not privy to
citizens living under repressive regimes such as Saudi Arabia or Pakistan the American political
system as a whole

An Evolution of User Participation Roles in Software Development

Although information systems research has long recognized the crucial role of user participation in
developing better software, researchers have overlooked temporal dimension and dynamism
associated with participation. This study contributes a new scholarly conversation on the longitudinal
processes around how users influence software development in dynamic ways and how software
organizations enable them to do so. Using a multi year qualitative inquiry, we develop an evolutionary
approach that theorizes user participation roles at different stages of development with three concepts
of inheritance , modification , and survival . The evolutionary approach unpacks how user
participation roles are rooted deeply in the repetitive experience and the co evolution of developers
and users over time. The results suggest software organizations should devote attention to the
changing roles of user participation at different stages of development and design appropriate
processes to support these roles. We discuss the important implications of evolutionary approach for
theories of participation and engagement and for software organizations attempting to operate in the
uncertain and rapidly changing context of software development.
