Medical Terminology Essay
In my paper I will be discussing what medical terminology is, where it came from, and how it is
applied to medical assistant careers as well as how it is applied to medical administration careers. I
will give examples of the importance of medical terminology and specific examples of where medical
careers use medical terminology on a day to day basis. I will also give a brief summary and definition
of what medical terminology stands for. After reading my paper you should have a good concept of
medical terminology s importance, use, and why medical terminology is not just applied to medical
assisting jobs but also why it is important for medical administration employees to also be familiar
and have a good grasp on medical terminology. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Decoding is very important because then it becomes easier to understand medical terminology. You
should first break down the word by evaluating the meaning of the suffix, then prefix, and then the
word root. This will in able a worker to identify what it is that is going on and be able to describe it to
their patient and to the doctor or physician when asked. But first the worker needs to have a good
sense of the origin of words which is called etymology. (Theirer Breitbard, 2007, p. 1 4)Once you
have the basic rules down you should be able to put words together and take them apart by decoding
them. You also need to make sure that the spelling and pronunciation are correct because if a medical
term is used incorrectly, it can become very dangerous and sometimes life threatening because you
diagnose wrong procedures and medication. It creates a communication for health care professionals
to make sure that a patient is treated with the highest amount of service and to ensure that they are
being treated with the right medication. Decoding is essential but the father of medicine also wrote the
Hippocratic Oath. In this Oath physicians are meant to promise to practice medicine the right way. To
make sure their pronunciation and spelling was always accurate and correct. The Oath has been in use
for over two thousand years and physicians and doctors are to follow the Oath to the best

Analysis Of The Book Count Ugolino
Count Ugolino
In the first round of the ninth circle of the Inferno, Virgil and Dante see two spirits pent in the ice; one
spirit chews on the head of the other sinner. Dante questions the chewing sinner, and with this the soul
lifts his from the other soul s devoured head, and begins to tell his story (Inf). He introduces himself as
Count Ugolino, a nobleman of Pisa, and tells Dante that the other sinner, whom he was gnawing on, is
Archbishop Ruggieri. Through a deceitful deception, the Archbishop put Ugolino and his suns in a
tower, where they received only a small amount of light each day from a small lancid window in the
wall. One day, when Ugolino and his sons were usually brought their food, they heard the door of the
tower being ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Ugolino uses his story s version as an act of revenge upon the bishop, whom he burns in Hell eternally
with revulsion (Franke 31). Dante the Poet shares this story to allow the reader to feel immense
sympathy and to stimulate the reader s hatred of Ugolino s tyrant; the suffering father in the story
forgets his fate within his agony that he can do nothing for his children or himself. In addition, this
suffering was an injustice, which gives the poet the right to be against Pisa (Yate 93). Ugolino s story
has been constantly paired with Paolo and Francesca s story; both stories arouse deep emotion in
anguish, but contrast in Dante the Pilgrim s reactions and responses to both sinners. Through these
stories, Dante indicates human love and human sorrow break through in the Inferno (Yate 95).
Ugolino is the father of sorrows that are easy to weep for. As a man of rank as a Count, he is
oppressed by a priest, and with this Ugolino becomes an emotional and liberty loving English lord
(Yate 99). However, Ugolino is filled with rage, which persuades him to gnaw at his oppressor s skull.
Dante seems to use this episode as a narrative of revenge, exposing Dante the Poet s weakness in his
god like personality. He thereby produces a narrative of the damning of sin in expressing his own
anger (Franke 27). Between the two haters, they share absolutely no pity, as there was towards
Francesca and her lover. Ugolino and Ruggieri rage with

The Replication Of Y Chromosomes And How They Have Evolved...
When fertilization occurs within mammals, the sex is immediately determined. Each parent will
contribute one or more chromosomes during the fertilization process, depending on the species. In the
male heterogametic (XY) system, the absence of the Y chromosome results in a female offspring and
the presence of the Y chromosome results in a male. The evolution of the sex determination system
consists of the rise and development of sex chromosomes and concurrently the emergence and
evolution of genes that guarantee the formation of equivalent traits and functions. This paper will
examine three studies: the replication of Y chromosomes and how they have evolved overtime (Cortez
et al. 2014), the structural variation found in Y chromosomes ... Show more content on

2014).
The purpose of the experiment was to understand how reproductive cells can divide and reproduce and
what is being reproduced in the duplication process. This process will assist researchers in
understanding the role of the Y chromosome and its evolution over time. An experiment was
conducted where RNA sequence data for 166 tissue samples from nine mammals and two birds were
observed (Cortez et al. 2014). Cortez et al. (2014) sequenced genomic DNA from two individuals and
then assembled the Y and W linked transcripts. Next, the Y/W transcripts were validated by aligning
the male and female Illumina genomic readings. In order to validate this, a large scale subtraction
approach was used. Next, Cortez et al. (2014) reconstructed the Y linked genes using genomic data
and then defined the Y gene names and the X gametologues. Experimenters predicted the multi copy
genes and the characterization of x linked contigs and genes in platypus. A phylogenetic analysis was
used to align the coding sequences for phylogenetic tree reconstructions based on amino acid
sequences. All trees were inspected for evidence of gene conversion but could not find any. Thus, it is
not frequent in the evolution of sex chromosomes (Cortez et al. 2014). Cortez et al. (2014) have
concluded that the XY system is not only unique to males, but similar to the ZW system found in
female birds.

Perfect Life And Perfect Families
Perfect Life and Perfect Families What is a perfect life or perfect family? From an outsider looking in,
what does that life look like for you? Is the pressure of comparing your family with others and
realizing that you do not measure up to what you see? We all have dreams of what our ideal life would
be. Sometimes these are prompted by the model families that we have seen, or perhaps they are the
dreams we had of what our own family should be like. Is there such a thing as perfect families or the
perfect life? In the movie Juno and American Beauty some of these families try so hard to look picture
perfect, however they are far from it. Remember that looks can be deceiving and comparison unfair. In
the movie Juno, sixteen year old Juno is the type of girl that beats to her own drum, and doesn t really
care what other people think of her. Juno ends up pregnant from her boyfriend, Paulie Bleeker. So she
decides to have the baby and give the baby up for adoption. Juno finds the perfect couple to adopt her
baby. She finds Mark and Vanessa Loring, a yuppie couple living in the suburbs. Juno likes the Loring
s and in some respect has found what looks to be kindred spirits in Mark, with whom she shares a love
of grunge music and horror films. Vanessa is a little more uptight and is the one in the relationship
seemingly most eager to have a baby. Juno enters a closed adoption contract with the Loring s.
Throughout the film you find out just how imperfect Mark and Vanessa

Ethical Dilemma Jekyll And Hyde
1. Ethical Dilemma: Jekyll and Hyde 1 18 The starting salary and minimum offer I would accept from
Gabriel is $60,000. I don t think giving Gabriel a different number than my internal number would
violate Jekyll Corporation s transparent culture. The first reason I don t think it would violate the
transparent culture is because I am not an employee yet and secondly sometimes there are things that
shouldn t be mentioned. Maybe by being truthful I would be able to get the job. 1 19 The news article
would affect whether I would accept the job offer or not. The reason that it would affect my decision is
that if the company is behaving unethically, then I could be negatively impacted by it. Also, I would

Goes Global 1 21 pros: promotes global economic growth, reduces trading barriers, drives prices
down, and provides countries to the chance to economically develop. Cons: jobs are lost, pay cut
demands, exploit tax havens, the risk of our technologies to being copied or stolen, and exploitation of
labor. 1 22 I think Apple was justified in drawing the observations and conclusions expressed. If Apple
found that through Globalization they get better quality products, then they should express their
findings. I think it wasn t harmful that Apple voiced their opinions. I think it would be helpful for the
United Sates. If the US takes action in trying to develop more motivated and adaptable citizens, then
we would be better off economically and our productivity would increase. 1 22 Managers could use
this as a leverage to have businesses bring their production to the United Sates. I would recommend
finding ways to motivate my employees and develop their ability to adapt to bring a more diligent and
flexible workforce. 1. Case: Era of the Disposable

Forgive and Forget in The Poisonwood Bible by Nathan...
People are taught to forgive and forget in order to be happy, afterall living with a grudge can being a
serious damper in ones life.
It may be easy to forgive a friend, or even a stranger depending on the situation, but what if the person
that had to be forgiven was themselves?
In the Poisonwood Bible by Barbara Kingsolver, the story is told through multiple points of view.
Each member of the Price family is noticeably different, and each have their own inner demons. As
each character is unlike, the way they handle their guilt, and search for forgiveness are also different.
Some characters like Orleanna Price are forgiven by the end of the novel, and others, such as Nathan
Price are not as fortunate. In this story the biggest ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As a soldier stationed in the Philippines, Nathan ran away from the fray when he was wounded by
piece of shrapnel. While in hiding, his unit would meet their death in the infamous Bataan Death
March. Nathan is the only one to in his unit to survive. This is root of his guilt and the influence of his
actions, for the rest of the story. Nathan, forever guilty of his cowardice, is permanently scarred.
Hounded by what happened in a Philippine Jungle and the ghosts of a thousand men who didn t
escape it, his steadfast disdain for cowardice turned to obsession (Kingsolver,96) Nathan even
receives the Purple Heart for surviving the war, the medal isn t for heroism or bravery, its for being

leads him to Kilanga, willingly putting his family in danger to spread the name of the lord, in hope of
redemption. Nathan s guilt at having escaped the Bataan death march has twisted his belief in God, he
sees God as one who punishes and rewards strictly on the basis of merit. He lives trying to earn his, by
pushing the teaching of Christianity to the Congolese. Nathan masks his cowardice using a sort of

Illustratte Technique and How It Relates to Performance Essay
According to the Dictionary of Sport Science, 1992 technique is best defined as a specific sequence of
movements or parts of movement in solving movement tasks in sports situations . Bober, 1981
suggested that using kinematic and temporal variables is the best way to illustrate technique. Most
reports reviewing technique reported the use temporal occurrence of linear and angular displacements
and velocity and their amplitude. Other implements are available for quantifying biomechanical
movement such as electromyography, plantar pressure and kinetic analysis. Technique is not always a
positive indicator of performance as good technique is not always an indicator of good performance,

This will help to describe how the foot and the footwear interact. In soles will be places into both shod
(shoe) conditions and participants will be asked to run as normal wearing the soles.
There is a debate among scientists as to whether barefoot or shod conditions are more beneficial to a
runner. Yan, et al, 2012 carried out a systematic review comparing the effects barefoot and shod
conditions, their aim was to clarify the effects of shoes on the most generally used variables associated
with impact analysis of the lower limb. They concluded that there was insufficient evidence to draw
an overall conclusion as to the benefits of shoes as they found conflicting results within the literature.
Yan et al, suggested that greater attention to the standards of reporting biomechanical analysis and use
of high quality data collection methods will help advance this field of research.
Running is an increasingly popular exercise both recreationally and professionally however like all
exercise it poses risks; with to 52 % of professional and recreational runners suffering with muscular,
skeletal and joint injuries (Van Mechelen, 1992). A great deal of research into shoe design has been
conducted specifically athletic shoes. More recently, scientists have considered the idea of minimalist
footwear leading to the development of Vibram Fivefingers and other minimalist footwear. The
lightweight shoe is supposed to mimic the experience of running barefoot while

The Origin Of The Aboriginal Noongar People
In the south west of Western Australia lay over a dozen tribes of the Noongar people. The aboriginal
Noongar tribe is one of the largest Aboriginal cultural blocks in Australia, and their names stems from
the meaning of the original inhabitants of the south west of Western Australia. The Noongar people are
deeply, spiritually connected to the earth, nature, and their ancestral past through what they call the
dreaming , or dreamtime . For Aboriginals, the Dreamtime is how their cultural knowledge is formed
and how they understand the creation of the world, passed down traditionally through oral telling and
stories. The Dreamtime is the world of their ancestors and how the spirits were born out of darkness.
One of the most well known deities/spirits and its corresponding origin story is that of the Waugal, or
the Rainbow Serpent.
The serpent is believed to be the first thing that moved across the land, making the paths in the land
such as dunes, rivers, mountains, valleys, and where the serpent stopped to rest is where lakes and
bodies of water were formed. The Noongar recognize the Waugal as the giver of life because it mainly
created waterways to provide for the people.
The story of the Waugal comes with a story of the creation of the earth, when it was dark, flat, and
featureless. The serpent is said to have awakened, aware of what would happen when he becomes real,
because how could the serpent be able to shape the earth if he was no hands or feet? Suddenly, as

The Lakota Summary
This week of class was very interesting once again. We watched several films, read our first book, and
had some class discussions. These three things provided me with a great deal of information on the
1975 FBI shooting at Pine Ridge and on Native American/American Indian myths and legends.
In the films Incident at Oglala and Murder on a Reservation, I learned a great deal about the 1975 FBI
shooting at Pine Ridge and have developed my own opinion about the incident. I learned that on June
26, 1975 two FBI agents, Ronald Williams and Jack Coler, followed a red pick up truck onto the
Jumping Bull Ranch. They were out on the reservation to serve a warrant, but they were in unmarked
cars so the Native American/American Indians feared that it was an attack and began shooting.

There were a couple of stories that really stood out to me. The first was The Story of Defender. I really
enjoyed this story because it keep me on the edge of my seat the whole time and taught about two
important values of the Lakota people bravery and humility. When Hoka was fourteen years old, he
was invited on a hunting party and was given the job of guarding the camp, which contained elk meat
and elk hides for many families back in their village. One day, when the hunters went out, Hoka
encountered a bear. He considered going and looking for the hunters, but he knew if a bear came and
took the meat while he was looking for them he would be responsible, so he stayed and defended the
camp. After watching the bear scurry through the brush for a while, Hoka took a shot. He heard a
slight cry and when he went to look where the bear was hiding, he saw blood. Hoka believed he had
shot and wounded a bear, but when the hunters returned later that night and asked if anything

practice using a combination of literature and reflective experiences to evaluate how this practice
contributes to quality outcomes. I aim to develop an action plan (appendix 1) that supports the

The literal meaning of Whariki is the woven mat , on which everyone can stand on, it interweaves
principles and goals into different ways which each setting can develop their own particular learning
methods (Carr May, 2000, cited in Soler Miller, 2003, p63). Te Whariki assesses children in a very
different way to the EYFS in the United Kingdom. They assess children through learning stories; and
have no set goals that they must attain by the end of the curriculum. In comparison, both assessment
processes are ongoing throughout the curriculum. After researching, I am aware that the Te Whariki
curriculum and the Early Years Foundation stage are similar. They both stress the importance of
inclusion and working with families. The Te Whariki assessment process learning stories seems more
enjoyable, however the EYFS use a checklist, this can also be seen as a positive aspect because
practitioners are able to monitor the child s holistic developmental progress. Monitoring is also done
through homework sheets (appendix 2 and 3) which gives parents a chance to communicate with
school staff by leaving notes about how the child got on with the task(s). A homework policy is
already in place 9appenddix 4)which allows every parent to understand homework rules, and the roles
of all staff, parents and children in relation to completing homework tasks in time. It could in fact be

What Is The Social Responsibility Of Architect
Introduction
In the process of the good spatial generation, architects are representatives of institutional knowledge
and the captain of the ship . They have power and control over designing and production of space
either directly by taking part in this process via their personal practices or indirectly affecting it
through their professional organizations they work for. This is where the role of professional ethics in
architecture comes to play and they should be limiting and leading this power through describing
architect s social responsibilities and also should be preventing unethical attitudes in all kinds of
spatial practices by using this power and knowledge. ( What is the Social Responsibility of Architects?

The architect, who works for the client, portrays and tries to work around the views of that client.
Architecture should ideally serve the people, but because of the clients control, this is hard. Therefore
architects have to choose between whether to serve the client or the people. ( What is the Social
Responsibility of Architects? , 2010)
Most believe that because the client is the one paying them, their building will be built their way and
the architect is there to serve them. This is how the building, which possibly had enormous potential
becomes THEIR building meant to serve no one, but them. Eventually these projects end up as
failures. How can a project not designed keeping the users in mind serve the users?
Others, like the TAR (The Architects Resistance, formed by students from Columbia, MIT, and Yale in
1968) believe the architect should be building for the people even though this is usually different than
the client. ( What is the Social Responsibility of Architects? , 2010) Easy to preach and hard to

So what all does an architect need to know (in no specific order)?

The Causes and Impacts of Hallucinations on the Patient
The Causes and Impacts of Hallucinations After undergoing a hallucination, the experience can
change the rest of a person s life. Many different things including stress, drugs, obsession, lack of
sleep, a rough childhood, devotion to God, etc. can cause hallucinations. Throughout history, many
people have experienced hallucinations in reality and literature. Hallucinations can affect someone
positively or negatively. During the Romantic era, many poets used opium believing that it produced
creativity. Rime of the Ancient Mariner and Kubla Khan by Samuel Taylor Coleridge are results from
his opium use and hallucinations. In William Shakespeare s Macbeth, Macbeth undergoes a
hallucination that leads to his downfall. In the novel Don Quixote, Don Quixote experiences extreme
hallucinations that resulted into insanity. The Spanish artist, Salvador Dali, experienced many
hallucinations throughout his life that caused his artwork to be very unique and different. During the
Medieval and Renaissance time periods, many people became extremely devoted to their faith. Some
claimed that they had experienced a heavenly figure come down and look at them. After their mystic
experiences, they became different people in a beneficial way. Experiencing hallucinations can cause
enhanced creativity, paranoia, insanity, or a more devout faith. During the Romantic time period,
many poets took the drug, opium to produce hallucinations. Everything known about opium seemed

Organizational Culture Of Home Depot
Bernard Marcus, the founders of Home Depot, developed a very informal and store oriented culture at
Home Depot.
An oganisation s culture can be perceived as its style, atmosphere and personality. For Home Depot, it
was all about entrepreneural high spiritdness which gave the members of the workforc the freedom to
decide what they preceived to be the best for the company.
The company s structure was said to be an inverted pyramid : the customers and store managers on the
top and the top management at the bottom. This showed how everyone s beleifs and opinions were
aligned towards customer satisfaction and extreme personal involvement with the customers and the
store.
Home depot had two set of beleifs : Firstly there are internal beliefs that include encouraging

The extra ordinary autonomy given to the store manager was one of the main reasons why employees

aversion to any kind of beauracracy and hierarchy. It was a usual practice at the stores to ignore all
kind of paperwork that was sent to them by the headquarters. They undervalued such directives to the
extent that they would throw these papers in the waste basket or mark them with BS stamp and send it

endeavors also carry over to political office campaigns. While the purposes of financing and

In order to run a successful political office campaign, one must also have a successful marketing and

Types Of Workplace Conflict And The Styles Of Management
Abstract
This paper explores published information on types of workplace conflict and the styles of
management to address the conflict. Articles discussing how the particular style used can affect stress
in the workplace. Eight interviews were conducted in which subjects were asked to rate the amount of
stress they experience, the type of conflict that is experienced, and their preferred method of conflict
management. The data collected agrees with the published articles showing that the preferred method
of dealing with conflict does have an effect on the amount of stress that is experienced by individuals
in the workplace. Those favoring a compromising or collaborative approach experience the least
amount of stress, while those ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Conflict and the Effects
Conflict can be defined as a struggle between people with opposing needs, ideas, beliefs, values, or
goals (Understanding Conflict and Conflict Management). When conflict occurs in the workplace, it
can reduce moral, lower productivity, increase absenteeism, and can ultimately lead to serious or
violent crimes (Gatlin, Wysocki, Kepner, 2002). Studies show that managers spend at least 25% of
their time resolving workplace conflict (Gatlin, Wysocki, Kepner, 2002). Productivity of managers
and employees are affected by the amount of conflict they experience on a day to day basis. How
much people are affected by different conflicts can be dependent on their personal conflict style. Each
individual personality will handle a given situation in a different way.
Sources of Conflict The first step to addressing any conflict is defining what the actual conflict is. The
range of a conflict can be something very minor to a large conflict that affects an entire department or
the whole workplace. It is important to understand and be able to identify the different levels of
conflict and how they may manifest in order to manage people (Workplaces that Work). Conflict is a
predictable part of human relationships and will occur in every workplace (Workplaces that Work).
The most basic of conflicts in the workplace is having conflicting needs (Gatlin, Wysocki, Kepner,
2002). The conflict of needs is produced by

Physical fitness has a great impact on a person s body. Exercise provides health benefits, increases

Germany is truly massive: up to six million Jews, seven million Soviet citizens, three million Soviet

Analysis Of Brief Wondrous Life Of Oscar Wao
In Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao, the author, Junot Diaz, depicts the life of a fictitious Oscar De
Leon who was an overweight boy of Dominican origin growing up in New Jersey. Leon appears to be
quite interested in science fiction and novels that relate to fantasy. The boy also appears to be
burdened with a curse that has followed his family for generations. The caretaker, on the other hand, is
a play that features three acts in that there are different actors, some of them being Aston and Davies
(Diaz 13). Aston has invited Davies who is homeless to his flat after he has rescued him from a bar
fight. Davies appears to be critical of Aston s house and comments on how messy it is. The paper aims
to discuss on ways in which the main characters of the Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao and The
Caretaker embody the characteristics of the immigrant and the outsider. It also aims to show how the
characteristics either contribute to or detract from their respective hero s journeys. The book by Oscar
Wao does provide a paradoxical view of Oscar De Leon in which he depicts him as an immigrant in
both the US and Dominican. He not an original dweller of the US but has lived in the country for
many years (Campbell 27). He happens to go through some problems in New Jersey, one of them
being the fact that he is not able to find love. Despite the fact that he has always been in search of
love. The case, therefore, provides a view that things in the US are not turning out well for him. He
holds the wish that such occurrences would be different in order to get the best outcome. Another
problem that Oscar happened to suffer from is based on the fact that he is not able to get the friendship
that he had wished for in New Jersey. For instance, at the time when he attended Rutgers University,
he was dissed by a girl, a situation that would, therefore, push him to attempt suicide (Diaz 13). He
tried to do the same by drinking two bottles of alcohol and tried to jump off the New Brunswick train
bridge. He also gets into a fight with his own sister and attempts suicide for a second time. Oscar,
having realized that most of the situation in the US was not happening as he would have wished, had
the view that it was the time

The Age Of Faith In The Middle Ages
The Middle Ages came right after the fall of the Roman Empire because of its lack of centralized
religion and its inability to deal with the raids of the nomadic and germanic tribes. Compared to all the
revolutionary advancements of the Roman Empire, many considered the Middle Ages to be a big step
back in lifestyle, education and technological advancements. The The Middle Ages have been defined
as many things. It has been called the Age of Feudalism, The Golden Age, and the Dark Ages.
However, the Age of Faith is a more accurate title, because during the Middle Ages the church was the
main source of unity in Europe, the church was viewed as the most important and powerful part of
Europe, even more powerful than the kings and governments, and finally the Age is Faith is a more
accurate title because people followed the church no matter what, even through situations as extreme
as the Crusades.
The first reason The Age of Faith is the most accurate title is that during the Middle Ages the church
was the main source of unity in Europe. For example the chart of a manor during the Middle Ages
shows that a chapel was the only thing that every single manor had (Document 2). A chapel was the
one thing that connected every manor. Also according to the excerpt from the museum The Roman
Catholic Church was the single most unifying structure in Europe. It touched everyone s life, no
matter what their rank or class was or where they lived (Document 3). This shows another example of

Essay about Machiavellian Poltician
Throughout history men have been struggling to become the
strongest or most dominant force in society. Scores of men,
throughout history, have taken notice that it is easier to
control several smaller states as opposed to one unified
state. In the late 15th and early 16th centuries a man by the
name of Nicolo Machiavelli reflected the actions of famous
men and their assent to power in his book The Prince. If
Machiavelli s advice was followed, a ruler could almost
guarantee success. But perhaps the first politician in the
modern world to follow the advice of The Prince, was a

Multi-Alternative Decision Making
Introduction Some economists assume that people make a choice according to the principle of value
maximisation and the ordering of the options is independent of the context. However, there are
anomalies of decision making suggesting that the context matters. The three basic anomalies are the
similarity effect (Tversky, 1972), the attraction effect (Huber, Payne and Puto, 1982) and the
compromise effect (Simonson, 1989). Theorists have tried explaining these effects by various
approaches. For example, the multi alternative decision field theory (Roe, Busemeyer and Townsend,
2001) can explain all the three effects. In addition, Tversky (1972) applied the elimination by aspects
model to illustrate the similarity effect and Tversky and Simonson (1993) introduced a componential
context model to explain the attraction and compromise effects. The next section reviews the three
anomalies of multi alternative decision making. Then we illustrate how the three theories mentioned
above explain the anomalies. After that, the decision field theory is compared with the other two
models respectively. Three context effects in decision making In real life, we may make choices
among various options with a large number of attributes. For simplicity, we use five options with only
two attributes to demonstrate the three anomalies as Figure 1 shows. Figure 1 Figure 1 An example of
the problem of choosing among options according to two attributes, which are represented by the

The Red s Backbone And The Other s `` Tell Chilling...
Introduction; In the late 1960 s to early 1970 s Spain rose as one of the leading countries to dominate
the horror film genre. Struggling under a brutal and confining dictatorship for much of the 20th
century, Spanish cinema took a while to come together. During the hard days of General Franco s
regime a series of horror films, such as The Living Dead at Manchester Morgue, a zombie classic,
were produced, mainly for the English market. In the remaining years under Franco, hundreds of
horror films were released, all of which were identified by their violence, eroticism, and unrestrained
cinematography. Spanish horror films such as, The Devil s Backbone and The Other s, tell chilling
ghost stories that go beyond the genre and successfully mix suspense, horror, and the coming of age
during the harsh wartime.
History of Spanish Horror: After General Franco s regime fell, a new wave of young directors, such as
Bigas Luna and Pedro Almodovar, basked in their newfound freedom of expression to produce films
that were unrestricted. In the 21st century, a more mature Spanish film industry had returned to the
horror genre in a big way. There have been many of box office horror film hits produced outside of
Spain with Spanish talent behind the camera, such as The Others. Spanish horror films had been
designed to appeal to international markets due to a crisis in the Spanish film production that
prompted producers to seek profits in the established European distribution and exhibition

The Theme Of Murder In Macbeth
Shakespearean Murder Blood, death, and violence; these are just a few words that go along with a way
of death known as murder. It s one of the more common ways of dying and is frequently seen on the
news and social media. As such, people always seems to take an interest in this topic. There s a
mysterious attraction to the subject of murder, whether in a mystery book, on television shows, or
simply mentioned in a news article. What makes a death murder, though? Murder, as defined by
Oxford Dictionaries, is the unlawful premeditated killing of one human being by another. Many
simply define it as taking someone else s life. In Macbeth, William Shakespeare illustrates the many
forms of murder and establishes how it is wrong. One of the more interesting parts of this way of
death is the motive, or reason, people choose to murder one another. The actual interest itself lies in
the main four reasons for murder; to gain power, exact revenge, dispose of any opposition or
witnesses, and sometimes for sheer pleasure. In Macbeth, Shakespeare clearly illustrates ... Show

Dostoevsky Notes From Underground Summary
In Dostoevsky s Notes from Underground, the Underground Man proposes a radically different
conception for his time. From history, human beings do not always do what is best in their own
interests. Instead of a safe and securable outcome, they often risk their lives and search for something
different from the simple path of one s own interest. There must then be an urge that opposes all
human interests. The Underground Man lists the human advantages usually referred to by the liberals:
peace, prosperity, wealth, and freedom. Nevertheless, tt is clear that human beings have in the past
often taken action that seems to go contrary to all these interests. Even if all human advantages were
put together in a table of advantages, there would be something that could not be placed in this table
because it opposes all the other interests in it. This one advantage that opposes all other human
advantages is free will but not any old free will. It is free will that rejects the notion of reason and
proceeds without it.
As the Underground Man sees it, if one acts always in accord with reason and towards the
achievement of specific goals, one never has a chance to exercise one s free will. In the utopian ideal,
everyone always knows exactly what action they should take that would be in their best interest. There
is never a real choice of actions since, given two actions, there is only one that can rationally be taken.
In this way, being enlightened as to one s real interests and being rational deprives one of choice. The
only way to really be free is to exercise the option that is not rational, to do something contrary to one
s own interest. Though it seems like it would be stupid to do something that is not advantageous, this
is the only way that one can exercise one s individuality. This is supported by The Underground Man s
statement, Consciously... their real interests, have left them in the background... compelled to this
course by... simply disliking the beaten track. (Dostoevsky, 27). Here, human beings would
intentionally abandon logic to assert their free will and abandon their better judgement just for the
sake of separating themselves from those around others. The creation of personal identity is so
important that human

`` Tobacco Road `` By Erskine Caldwell
Flaws can Define a Person
How can a single word chose a person s actions and dramatically change their life? In Erskine
Caldwell s Tobacco Road the Lester family goes through a lot in a one week span. Through the
struggles with poverty and barely surviving life. This family shows that the wants are much more
profitable in the long hall. As the story continues, a tragic reality check come upon this Lester family.
In Tobacco Road, Caldwell illustrates how both poverty and lust causes conflict based on the choices
one makes in an attempt to make life better.
Poverty is a lifestyle that can be changed by simply the choices one makes. Toward the end of chapter
seven the narrator talks about Jeeter s life and how he came to inherit the land of the Tobacco Road.
Caldwell states that by the time Jeeter was old enough to work in the fields, the land had become such
a great item of expense that most of it was allowed to grow up into pines (86). Since Jeeter took on
this huge project of running his own cotton farm. He might knew that since his grandfather started it
and then was passed down to his father and then onto him, he was obligated to continue on the Lester
tradition of farming. As a child Jeeter knew he always wanted to keep the farm alive and continue the
production of cotton coming from the Lester farm land. With working a farm and trying to put food on
the table was a difficult task that he could not rise and meet the challenge. As time went on Jeeter
hated that he could

Multiculturalism and the Canadian identity Essay
Multiculturalism and the Canadian identity.
Introduction
What is Canada? What is a Canadian? Canada, to employ Voltaire s analogy, is nothing but a few
acres of snow. . Of course, the philosopher spoke of New France, when he made that analogy. More
recently, a former Prime Minister, Joe Clark, said that the country was nothing but a community of
communities . Both these images have helped us, in one way or another, try to interpret what could
define this country. On the other hand, a Canadian could be a beer, a hockey playing beaver or even a
canoe floating in a summer day s sunset. A Canadian could also be a sovereigntyphobe , refusing to

While the rest of Canada employs the concept of multiculturalism, Quebec emphasizes on another
theory: interculturalism, or the notion of support in cross cultural dialogue and challenging self
segregation tendencies within cultures. In the province, the word multiculturalism announces
pejorative meanings. This was due, in part, to the fact that a federal commission which was charged
several years ago with the task of developing policies for Canada, based on its bicultural and bilingual
character emerged with a recommendation that Canada think of itself as a multicultural and bilingual
country.3 . Francophones, on the other hand, felt that this concept placed them at the same level as
minority ethnic groups, thus erasing their thoughts of being seen as one of the country s founding
nations.
Religious symbolism and governmental position
In 1985, a request, made by Baltej Singh Dhillon, who asked to allow the addition of a religious
symbol to the RCMP s emblematic red uniform, changed the way the force was perceived, in the
country. This gesture begged one question: Would a religious symbol be accepted, in any given
governmental environment, where religious attire is often seen a source of tension? For many, the
RCMP was seen as the pinnacle of Canadian identity. As a result, many groups felt that a turban would
not have the same level of symbolic sanctity as the Stetson hat, worn by RCMP officers. The Canadian

Antoine Arnauld s Argument Analysis
In objection to Descartes reasoning behind his attempt to establish that what is true, is clear and
distinct perception, Antoine Arnauld argues his reasoning is circular. Before explaining why
circularity is evident, I will first consider what Descartes truth rule really consists of. After
establishing cogito ergo sum , Descartes uses the same logical terminology in which the cogito was
established, to attempt to find other truths in the external world. However, as the is no causality
between cogito and external truths, some further proof is required for Descartes. This is at the point
Descartes introduces the argument for Gods existence and hence, we get the truth rule established. He
argues that God exists and is not a deceiver, in which ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
With Descartes distinction between what we perceive clearly and distinctly, and what we remember
having perceived clearly and distinctly. In order for something to be certain, it must at least have
duration in the mind. This means that even when not concentrated on, it is still knowledge with the
potential to be certain. Some beliefs, on the other hand, can be certain without God s existence for
their truth, but only for as long as they are concentrated on. Such beliefs are clear and distinct, and
therefore true, when thought of and not dependent upon a non deceiving God that would assure us of
their truth. Their truth is established by their being clear and distinct when concentrated on. The
contradiction lies with what Descartes considers eternal truths , that geometrical facts, such as the area
of a circle is equal to πr^2, or the fact that three angles of a triangle are equal to two right angles, are
all only true because of Gods existence and non deceptive nature. This with consideration to Descartes
response to Arnauld, leaves up with the implication that an eternal truth is only true once we clearly
and distinctly perceive it, and then not true, when the attentiveness of geometric truths leaves our
mind; sounding like a

The Kitty Genovese Murder
Katie Wallace
Psychology 2301
May 9, 2013
Mrs. Strickland
Silent Witnesses: The Kitty Genovese Murder 1. After the 1964 murder of Kitty Genovese, John
Darley and Bibb Latane were in shock as the rest of the city/world that a 28 year old lady could be
stabbed in a neighborhood with about 38 by standers or more and say or do nothing. Why didn t
anyone try and help her? How could people stand by and watch this go on? People speculated that the
failure of people to get involved might be due more to the influence (socially) that bystanders have on
each other. To test this theory, Darley and Latane, two psychologists, decided to conduct a study.

I would have yelled while calling the police at the same time. I can t imagine me having that on my
conscious for the rest of my life. I could have done something, I could have called, and I chose to do
nothing and now this lady is dead. How the 38 people still sleep at night, I have no clue. There was a
window of opportunity for Kitty to still be alive, and the fact that no one could even call the police
disgusts me. It took the police 2 minutes to arrive. Winston stayed in his car for 10 minutes. I would
have called. There is no excuse why any of these neighbors didn t

Descriptive Essay About Frankenstein
I saw myself. Hideous, that s what I was. People were afraid of me, so I have to hide. A hidden figure
in the darkness of the night. I don t remember why I looked like this therefore, I don t remember
anything , however I remember him. I saw him. I saw him at the party. In the crowd of people who
were running away from something with fear leaving with them however, one boy that was the not
running away. He just stood there . I didn t know if he was shocked or he was going to cry. It was one
of those situations where he gave me a look like if I get close to me I will punch you looks. I didn t
know what to do so, I start to walk closer to him and then a dark red floating object caught my eye. I
turn to see a red balloon floating east. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I came back to reality and see now I m standing by a sign that says Welcome to Derry . Behind the
giant sign was a sewage tunnel. I walked into the grey water and walked around for a bit. Trying to
find a spot to sleep I soon reached what I thought was the end of the sewers, however it was the
meeting point of where all the sewage pipes meet in Derry. For some reason I felt like I have been
here before. In my own thought, I hear some say a name. Hiya, Georgie! I turn around to see the one
who took my last breath away from me, Pennywise. Welcome back! The clown said, as I stepped back
away from my nightmare it moved closer to me. Did you miss me? The clown said to me now and
hovering over me with a big smile on his face. In the crease of his mouth slobbered built up and
dripped from his mouth onto my forehead. NO! I screamed as I pushed pasted him running. YOUR

I m Pennywise the dancing clown he responded with a smirk on his face. GEORGIE I turn to see Bill.
He is with seven other boys and two girls. Pennywise was distracted by the group so I tried running to
them, but he got me. Hands were wrapped around my neck. I couldn t breathe. I felt something touch
my hand and I let out a sob. I tried to calm myself down. This isn t going to happen again. I

the concepts to define nature, subject, and purpose, of the financial report. it has many advantages to
have a conceptual framework for than company for example when there is a conceptual framework
implemented in the country then all business bodies follows that framework and so there is better

Medical Terminology Essay In my paper I will be discussing what medical terminology is, where it came from, and how it is applied to medical assistant careers as well as how it is applied to medical administration careers. I will give examples of the importance of medical terminology and specific examples of where medical careers use medical terminology on a day to day basis. I will also give a brief summary and definition of what medical terminology stands for. But first the worker needs to have a good sense of the origin of words which is called etymology. • 3. Analysis Of The Book Count Ugolino Count Ugolino In the first round of the ninth circle of the Inferno, Virgil and Dante see two spirits pent in the ice; one spirit chews on the head of the other sinner. Dante questions the chewing sinner, and with this the soul lifts his from the other soul s devoured head, and begins to tell his story (Inf). He introduces himself as Count Ugolino, a nobleman of Pisa, and tells Dante that the other sinner, whom he was gnawing on, is Archbishop Ruggieri. Through a deceitful deception, the Archbishop put Ugolino and his suns in a tower, where they received only a small amount of light each day from a small lancid window in the wall. Ugolino uses his story s version as an act of revenge upon the bishop, whom he burns in Hell eternally with revulsion (Franke 31). Dante the Poet shares this story to allow the reader to feel immense sympathy and to stimulate the reader s hatred of Ugolino s tyrant; the suffering father in the story forgets his fate within his agony that he can do nothing for his children or himself. In addition, this suffering was an injustice, which gives the poet the right to be against Pisa (Yate 93). Ugolino s story has been constantly paired with Paolo and Francesca s story; both stories arouse deep emotion in anguish, but contrast in Dante the Pilgrim s reactions and responses to both sinners. Through these stories, Dante indicates human love and human sorrow break through in the Inferno (Yate 95). Ugolino is the father of sorrows that are easy to weep for. As a man of rank as a Count, he is oppressed by a priest, and with this Ugolino becomes an emotional and liberty loving English lord (Yate 99). However, Ugolino is filled with rage, which persuades him to gnaw at his oppressor s skull. Dante seems to use this episode as a narrative of revenge, exposing Dante the Poet s weakness in his god like personality. He thereby produces a narrative of the damning of sin in expressing his own anger (Franke 27). Between the two haters, they share absolutely no pity, as there was towards Francesca and her lover. • 4. The Replication Of Y Chromosomes And How They Have Evolved... When fertilization occurs within mammals, the sex is immediately determined. Each parent will contribute one or more chromosomes during the fertilization process, depending on the species. In the male heterogametic (XY) system, the absence of the Y chromosome results in a female offspring and the presence of the Y chromosome results in a male. The evolution of the sex determination system consists of the rise and development of sex chromosomes and concurrently the emergence and evolution of genes that guarantee the formation of equivalent traits and functions. This paper will examine three studies: the replication of Y chromosomes and how they have evolved overtime (Cortez et al. 2014), the structural variation found in Y chromosomes ... The purpose of the experiment was to understand how reproductive cells can divide and reproduce and what is being reproduced in the duplication process. This process will assist researchers in understanding the role of the Y chromosome and its evolution over time. An experiment was conducted where RNA sequence data for 166 tissue samples from nine mammals and two birds were observed (Cortez et al. 2014). Cortez et al. (2014) sequenced genomic DNA from two individuals and then assembled the Y and W linked transcripts. Next, the Y/W transcripts were validated by aligning the male and female Illumina genomic readings. In order to validate this, a large scale subtraction approach was used. Next, Cortez et al. (2014) reconstructed the Y linked genes using genomic data and then defined the Y gene names and the X gametologues. Experimenters predicted the multi copy genes and the characterization of x linked contigs and genes in platypus. A phylogenetic analysis was used to align the coding sequences for phylogenetic tree reconstructions based on amino acid sequences. All trees were inspected for evidence of gene conversion but could not find any. Thus, it is not frequent in the evolution of sex chromosomes (Cortez et al. 2014). Cortez et al. Is the pressure of comparing your family with others and realizing that you do not measure up to what you see? We all have dreams of what our ideal life would be. Studies show that managers spend at least 25% of their time resolving workplace conflict (Gatlin, Wysocki, Kepner, 2002). Productivity of managers and employees are affected by the amount of conflict they experience on a day to day basis. How much people are affected by different conflicts can be dependent on their personal conflict style. Each individual personality will handle a given situation in a different way. Sources of Conflict The first step to addressing any conflict is defining what the actual conflict is. The range of a conflict can be something very minor to a large conflict that affects an entire department or the whole workplace. It is important to understand and be able to identify the different levels of conflict and how they may manifest in order to manage people (Workplaces that Work). Conflict is a predictable part of human relationships and will occur in every workplace (Workplaces that Work). The most basic of conflicts in the workplace is having conflicting needs (Gatlin, Wysocki, Kepner, 2002). The conflict of needs is produced by ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 27. Analysis Of Brief Wondrous Life Of Oscar Wao In Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao, the author, Junot Diaz, depicts the life of a fictitious Oscar De Leon who was an overweight boy of Dominican origin growing up in New Jersey. Leon appears to be quite interested in science fiction and novels that relate to fantasy. The boy also appears to be burdened with a curse that has followed his family for generations. The caretaker, on the other hand, is a play that features three acts in that there are different actors, some of them being Aston and Davies (Diaz 13). Aston has invited Davies who is homeless to his flat after he has rescued him from a bar fight. Davies appears to be critical of Aston s house and comments on how messy it is. The paper aims to discuss on ways in which the main characters of the Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao and The Caretaker embody the characteristics of the immigrant and the outsider. It also aims to show how the characteristics either contribute to or detract from their respective hero s journeys. The book by Oscar Wao does provide a paradoxical view of Oscar De Leon in which he depicts him as an immigrant in both the US and Dominican. He not an original dweller of the US but has lived in the country for many years (Campbell 27). He happens to go through some problems in New Jersey, one of them being the fact that he is not able to find love. Despite the fact that he has always been in search of love. The case, therefore, provides a view that things in the US are not turning out well for him. He holds the wish that such occurrences would be different in order to get the best outcome. Another problem that Oscar happened to suffer from is based on the fact that he is not able to get the friendship that he had wished for in New Jersey. For instance, at the time when he attended Rutgers University, he was dissed by a girl, a situation that would, therefore, push him to attempt suicide (Diaz 13). He tried to do the same by drinking two bottles of alcohol and tried to jump off the New Brunswick train bridge. He also gets into a fight with his own sister and attempts suicide for a second time. Oscar, having realized that most of the situation in the US was not happening as he would have wished, had the view that it was the time ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Compared to all the revolutionary advancements of the Roman Empire, many considered the Middle Ages to be a big step back in lifestyle, education and technological advancements. The The Middle Ages have been defined as many things. It has been called the Age of Feudalism, The Golden Age, and the Dark Ages. However, the Age of Faith is a more accurate title, because during the Middle Ages the church was the main source of unity in Europe, the church was viewed as the most important and powerful part of Europe, even more powerful than the kings and governments, and finally the Age is Faith is a more accurate title because people followed the church no matter what, even through situations as extreme as the Crusades. The first reason The Age of Faith is the most accurate title is that during the Middle Ages the church was the main source of unity in Europe. For example the chart of a manor during the Middle Ages shows that a chapel was the only thing that every single manor had (Document 2). A chapel was the one thing that connected every manor. • 34. Multi-Alternative Decision Making Introduction Some economists assume that people make a choice according to the principle of value maximisation and the ordering of the options is independent of the context. However, there are anomalies of decision making suggesting that the context matters. The three basic anomalies are the similarity effect (Tversky, 1972), the attraction effect (Huber, Payne and Puto, 1982) and the compromise effect (Simonson, 1989). Theorists have tried explaining these effects by various approaches. For example, the multi alternative decision field theory (Roe, Busemeyer and Townsend, 2001) can explain all the three effects. In addition, Tversky (1972) applied the elimination by aspects model to illustrate the similarity effect and Tversky and Simonson (1993) introduced a componential context model to explain the attraction and compromise effects. The next section reviews the three anomalies of multi alternative decision making. Then we illustrate how the three theories mentioned above explain the anomalies. After that, the decision field theory is compared with the other two models respectively. Three context effects in decision making In real life, we may make choices among various options with a large number of attributes. Struggling under a brutal and confining dictatorship for much of the 20th century, Spanish cinema took a while to come together. During the hard days of General Franco s regime a series of horror films, such as The Living Dead at Manchester Morgue, a zombie classic, were produced, mainly for the English market. In the remaining years under Franco, hundreds of horror films were released, all of which were identified by their violence, eroticism, and unrestrained cinematography. Spanish horror films such as, The Devil s Backbone and The Other s, tell chilling ghost stories that go beyond the genre and successfully mix suspense, horror, and the coming of age during the harsh wartime. History of Spanish Horror: After General Franco s regime fell, a new wave of young directors, such as Bigas Luna and Pedro Almodovar, basked in their newfound freedom of expression to produce films that were unrestricted. In the 21st century, a more mature Spanish film industry had returned to the horror genre in a big way. There have been many of box office horror film hits produced outside of Spain with Spanish talent behind the camera, such as The Others. • 38. Dostoevsky Notes From Underground Summary In Dostoevsky s Notes from Underground, the Underground Man proposes a radically different conception for his time. From history, human beings do not always do what is best in their own interests. Instead of a safe and securable outcome, they often risk their lives and search for something different from the simple path of one s own interest. There must then be an urge that opposes all human interests. The Underground Man lists the human advantages usually referred to by the liberals: peace, prosperity, wealth, and freedom. Nevertheless, tt is clear that human beings have in the past often taken action that seems to go contrary to all these interests. Even if all human advantages were put together in a table of advantages, there would be something that could not be placed in this table because it opposes all the other interests in it. This one advantage that opposes all other human advantages is free will but not any old free will. It is free will that rejects the notion of reason and proceeds without it. As the Underground Man sees it, if one acts always in accord with reason and towards the achievement of specific goals, one never has a chance to exercise one s free will. In the utopian ideal, everyone always knows exactly what action they should take that would be in their best interest. There is never a real choice of actions since, given two actions, there is only one that can rationally be taken. In this way, being enlightened as to one s real interests and being rational deprives one of choice. The only way to really be free is to exercise the option that is not rational, to do something contrary to one s own interest. Though it seems like it would be stupid to do something that is not advantageous, this is the only way that one can exercise one s individuality. This is supported by The Underground Man s statement, Consciously... their real interests, have left them in the background... compelled to this course by... simply disliking the beaten track. (Dostoevsky, 27). Here, human beings would intentionally abandon logic to assert their free will and abandon their better judgement just for the sake of separating themselves from those around others. In Erskine Caldwell s Tobacco Road the Lester family goes through a lot in a one week span. Through the struggles with poverty and barely surviving life. This family shows that the wants are much more profitable in the long hall. As the story continues, a tragic reality check come upon this Lester family. In Tobacco Road, Caldwell illustrates how both poverty and lust causes conflict based on the choices one makes in an attempt to make life better. Poverty is a lifestyle that can be changed by simply the choices one makes. Toward the end of chapter seven the narrator talks about Jeeter s life and how he came to inherit the land of the Tobacco Road. Caldwell states that by the time Jeeter was old enough to work in the fields, the land had become such a great item of expense that most of it was allowed to grow up into pines (86). Since Jeeter took on this huge project of running his own cotton farm. He might knew that since his grandfather started it and then was passed down to his father and then onto him, he was obligated to continue on the Lester tradition of farming. Canada, to employ Voltaire s analogy, is nothing but a few acres of snow. . Of course, the philosopher spoke of New France, when he made that analogy. More recently, a former Prime Minister, Joe Clark, said that the country was nothing but a community of communities . Both these images have helped us, in one way or another, try to interpret what could define this country. On the other hand, a Canadian could be a beer, a hockey playing beaver or even a canoe floating in a summer day s sunset. While the rest of Canada employs the concept of multiculturalism, Quebec emphasizes on another theory: interculturalism, or the notion of support in cross cultural dialogue and challenging self segregation tendencies within cultures. In the province, the word multiculturalism announces pejorative meanings. This was due, in part, to the fact that a federal commission which was charged several years ago with the task of developing policies for Canada, based on its bicultural and bilingual character emerged with a recommendation that Canada think of itself as a multicultural and bilingual country.3 . Francophones, on the other hand, felt that this concept placed them at the same level as minority ethnic groups, thus erasing their thoughts of being seen as one of the country s founding nations. Religious symbolism and governmental position In 1985, a request, made by Baltej Singh Dhillon, who asked to allow the addition of a religious symbol to the RCMP s emblematic red uniform, changed the way the force was perceived, in the country. This gesture begged one question: Would a religious symbol be accepted, in any given governmental environment, where religious attire is often seen a source of tension? After establishing cogito ergo sum , Descartes uses the same logical terminology in which the cogito was established, to attempt to find other truths in the external world.
