A Summary On The Film The Night
Over the colossal castle, the spherical star above leaned cautiously. The noose eclipsed the sunlight;
relentless guards grabbed their attention of every creature which had clinking chains glued to their
soiled feet. Led by enslaving chains; the mist blew through the ashen compound. As dejected hostages
babbled helplessly, faint whimpers deafened the abominable scene. Masking beats of drums pursued
every hesitant shuffle.
Anxiously, the morose hostages scuffled onwards; they limped in desperation onto the wooden deck.
The inmates blistered, wounded soles struggled. Wrapping it around the peasant s bony neck, scraping
away at the remaining skin, the ruffian beast grabbed the noose. Mercilessly, he grasped the corroded
lever and heaved it. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The atmosphere created a faded glow that crept behind them. Their vacant eyes had such a vivid blue
in life that made the others afraid to see what they looked like after death. Their luminous and gleam
of their eyes would soon cease and never return. The hostage s last image in their minds would be
pale, dreary corpses which are discarded.
A clammed breeze lifted the cinders from the gallows, shrouding the atmosphere in a copper haze. The
silver coin reflected with its qualities of molten riches; weathered by its eternal existence, it sat in the
diminutive palm of his hand. The relic glistened in the sun. With apprehensive energy, his eyes
coruscated as a celestial voice broke out of him; the ruthless executioner yanked the defenceless child
onto the wooden barrel, putting a noose around head as it swallowed it whole. As he sang, he reflected
on his mortal life; knowing it would vanish briskly. The adolescence, timid boy s soul poured past the
rotten, blanched ground which flawed into the emotions of the aghast crowd. Just then, death was
roused. Dubiously, the vigorous executioner marched behind him, wondering what raised his feeble
audacity.
Surrounding him, there was an aura of ashen charcoal; a state of abasement that he couldn t see
himself through. It was a world of obscurity; the glossy glint he had revealed. His melancholy,
colourless eyes spoke of his depraved anguish.

The Theory Of Robert Pickton As A Serial Killer
First, the theory chosen for the social science discipline, psychology is psychosocial. The focus of the
theory is how Robert Pickton became a serial killer due to the environment he grew up in and
relationships. Pickton s parents ran a meat business in Port Coquitlam and Pickton alongside his
brother helped them. Pickton s mother was tough and had the children work on a strict schedule. In
addition, Pickton s father had very little influence in his life, but his mother can be the key influence in
why he murders women. Pickton was close to his mother and she also was a major authority figure in
his life. Consequently, Pickton could have grown a hatred towards women due to his mother and is the
reason he targets women. Enough hatred to ensure his victims suffer by raping and killing them Also,
due to his mother making him work hard on the farm he had little to no childhood. Pickton did raise a
calf and was very close to it, however, the calf was slaughtered. As a result, Pickton never forgot it and
also said from CBC News, the incident made him realize life was fleeting. Additionally, Pickton is
used to seeing things being killed and dying because he saw many animals being slaughtered when he
was young. Death in his eyes has been normalized and is not an unusual occurrence. This is a key
reason Pickton does not feel remorse for the killing of his victims because it is normal to him.
Furthermore, Pickton was quiet and socially awkward, sometimes exhibiting unusual behaviour.

George Wilhelm Friedrich and the French Revolution Essay
George Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel was a German Philosopher who was born in Stuttgart in 1770. As a
young man, he studied theology, but was also impelled to explore philosophy due to the upheaval of
this treacherous time in history. The Reign of Terror and French Revolution had a huge impact on
Germany and Europe, and Hegel became caught up in the fervor and outrage of the period and wanted
to take a deeper look at the events that were occurring. His look and analysis of the French Revolution
is what began his reflection of history.
After graduation from the seminary, Hegel joined the faculty of the University of Jena, the philosophic
center of Germany. While there, he wrote Phenomenology of Spirit, his first major book. Hegel left

Original historians relied heavily upon the writings of other contemporaries, because it would be
impossible for them to have seen everything that occurred at once. Original history is where we get
direct accounts of legend, folklore, and traditions because a person would have to have been there to
truly know about these. The great advantage that original historians have over the others is that they
lived through and were shaped by the events as they unfolded. They can descriptively write about
them from their experience, as opposed to a historian writing accounts based on the writings of others
hundreds of years later. Hegel said of these historians, The influences that have formed the writer are
identical with those which have moulded the events that constitute the matter of his story. The author s
spirit, and that of the actions he narrates, is one and the same (www.marxists.org).
The second kind of history described in Hegel s Philosophy of History, Reflective history, is written
after the time period being described has passed. These historians endeavor to show connections
between and reasons for historical events. Hegel distinguishes four types of Reflective History:
Universal, Pragmatic, Critical, and Specialized.
Universal history attempts to cover and describe a long period of time and gives an overview of, for
example, an entire people or entire nations. This type of history is broad and represents general facts

Iago s Motives Of Stock Characters In Othello
can be interpreted in many ways, each person views it differently. Each account being influenced by
the viewers [audience] own life experiences. Rosenberg and McCloskey, unlike Stempel, are very
sympathetic of Iago. I think that when trying to understand the character Iago, first we need to
recognize what Shakespeare s original intentions for the play were, and also the style of plays he
tended to write, as they all have obvious similarities. Rather than writing about stock characters,
which was common in the theater during Elizabethan times, Shakespeare wrote about people who
seemed real. Rosenberg believes that Shakespeare s intentions for the play was to be a story of
betrayal between two friends, it is quite possible that Shakespeare was drawn to this story because it

McCloskey, in order to determine what Iago s motives were in Othello by William Shakespeare.
Stempel is very much a symbolist critic. Stempel is of the belief that Iago is the symbol of evil, he has
little sympathy towards Iago, in that he compares him to the devil. On the other hand Rosenberg
argues against Stempel, claiming that Iago is an intelligent, cunning character who is like many
characters so commonly used the psychological style of writing. McCloskey similar to Rosenberg
thinks that Iago was a man who merely set out to seek justice, who had gotten so far that it was too
late to remove himself from the situation. After researching and examining the papers of these critics it
has become clear that Iago did not carry out evil for the sake of it, he had a motive. Iago had a lot of
jealous and hate built up inside of him, he, like many people had a reputation to attain. Since Othello
and Cassio harmed his reputation, he planned to get revenge. Overcome with power, and emotions,
Iago lacked the will to refrain himself from causing such

Essay on Ford Competition
In a present day of global warming, environmental issues, labor unions, and other impacts, the
automobile industry is in an era of instability and change. Ford Motor Company has been traditionally
considered one of the Big Three in the auto industry, but they are not adapting as well as hoped to the
changing industry, and will have to strategize to survive in a struggling industry. There are many
different risk factors for Ford and its competitors. In this paper we will look at two competitors for
Ford that are also considered to be members of the Big Three and coincidently, are not adapting to
changes in the auto industry as quickly as other competitors. These other companies are General
Motors (GM) and Daimler Chrysler. We will ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Ford feels that although steps have been taken to lower their health care expenses, the cost to the
company will continue to rise for the foreseeable future. Foreign car manufacturers have on average
lower health care and employee costs, giving them an advantage over Ford, GM, and Daimler
Chrysler. Ford Motor Co is hoping to take steps to offset the costs of employee benefits; however, this
could also lead to negative publicity for the company. Foreign auto makers are able to maintain lower
costs with non unionized and on average, younger employees. The next risk factor for the auto
industry is commodity and energy price increases. Steel and resin (plastic) are the two most used
commodities for auto manufacturers, and they are products in high demand for many industries.
Rising awareness of sustainability and rising demand for these products has lead to recent price
increases, and it is estimated to continue this trend. This factor targets all of the auto industry, but
again hits the big three and other auto manufacturers harder then it does some of the foreign car
manufacturers. Japanese auto makers have long been seen as efficient smaller car manufacturers,
where the big three have moved to the larger SUV type vehicle. By building smaller vehicles,
Japanese auto makers reduce their dependency and therefore their costs on steel and resin. The second
risk coming from the comparative sizes of vehicles being manufactured by the auto makers is the cost

The Fall of Constantinople
The fall of Constantinople in 1453 was one of the most influential events in history and marked the
end of the Byzantine Empire. The main effect of the fall of Constantinople in 1453 was the downfall
of the Byzantine Empire and the rise of the Ottoman Empire. The city was mainly populated by
Christians and now has become an Islamic city. The capture of Constantinople stated the end of the
Roman Empire, which lasted for about one thousand five hundred years. The invasion of the city of
Constantinople and the end of the Byzantine Empire marked the end of the Middle Ages.
The downfall of Constantinople was one of the greatest fortified cities in the world. The Fall of
Constantinople was the takeover of the capital of the Byzantine Empire, and happened after an attack
by the Ottoman Empire against the defending army. The commander of the attack by the Ottoman
Empire was Emperor Constantine XI. It all began when Constantine found a new capital at the
Bosporus, which he named Constantinople. Sultan Mehmed II, ruler of the Ottoman Turks, was the
leader of the assault. The city of Constantinople was defeated by around ten thousand men. On the
opposing side, the Turks had between one hundred thousand and one hundred fifty thousand men on
their side with the advantage. This battle and attack lasted for fifty days. The Turks used huge cannons
to destroy the walls and warships were used by the Turks as well.
Around October 1448 Constantine had begun to show the qualities and

Courtroom Work Group Roles
The courtroom is a vital part of the criminal justice system, and a major role in the judicial branch of
our government. In the courtroom there are specified roles given to certain people that allow them to
to actively engage in the system and get it to work efficiently and properly so that justice is served.
The major roles of the courtroom work group are: Police officer, prosecutor, defense attorney, judge,
defendant, victim, bailiff, court reporter, and the jury. In this essay I will describe in depth the
responsibilities of each of these important courtroom characters. The police officer is the first person
to deal with any case. They are usually the one who arrest the suspects or investigating each crime.

What Single Word Mean To Me Analysis
I believe that the words spoken by others can hold a powerful meaning in people s minds. To me, I
think a single word has the power to dramatically change someone s day, or life. I know when people
say negative, mean things about me, even though they may think it is a joke, my feelings get hurt, and
when they say positive, nice things about me I get happy. My mood can instantly change depending on
whether someone says something nice, or something mean about me. Words of discouragement
brought me down; I let other people define me. My life has consisted of social issues, and the words
people said about me affected me greatly in more ways than other people know. Due to the fact that I

1. Major Facts / Major Problems: * Givaudan is a major supplier of flavors to Tastyco, one of

during which Geoff has increasingly grown volume and returned large profits for Givaudan. Geoff has
not had to compete with other flavor suppliers and has been able to charge Tastyco high prices for
both new and existing flavors. * Givaudan s R amp;D team has been working directly with the R

* Geoff presents these issues to his boss, Michael Alpharo, and suggests a price reduction on most of
the existing flavors by 25%. Michael rejects a price reduction by explaining that while there is profit
on variable costs, the fixed costs of manufacturing sites and the expertise of flavorists still needs to be
covered. He also points out the investment in technical innovations and flavors library which shouldn t
be given away for free. * Michael asks Geoff to put together some options to allow Givaudan to
continue working profitably with Tastyco. To fully understand the value presented, Geoff schedules
meetings with three Tastyco executives Jack Collins, Rick Miller, and Claire Hillman to realize the
true value Givaudan offers to Tastyco.
2. Possible Solutions: For the purposes of these solutions, I assume the conversations with the three
Tastyco executives Jack Collins, Rick Miller, and Claire Hillman have all taken place and have
provided some insight into the perceived value of Givaudan at Tastyco. The solutions proposed below
may be presented to Geoff s boss as potential paths forward.
Solution A: Supported by feedback and perhaps direct inaction from the from the Tastyco executives,
Geoff could develop a presentation that justifies the differential value provided by Givaudan and

The Evolution of the Role of Women in British and American...
Girls wear jeans and cut their hair short and wear shirts and boots because it is okay to be a boy; for a
girl it is like promotion. But for a boy to look like a girl is degrading, according to you, because
secretly you believe that being a girl is degrading (McEwan 55 56). Throughout the history of
literature women have been viewed as inferior to men, but as time has progressed the idealistic views
of how women perceive themselves has changed. In earlier literature women took the role of being the
housewife or the household caretaker for the family while the men provided for the family. Women

Considering the American novel Their Eyes Were Watching God is written by Zora Neale Hurston in
1937. In the novel Janie Crawford plays the main character and has a very subservient mind, but as the
novel progresses, so does her attitude and views on self worth and independence. Women s freedom
and lack of independence serves a big role in the novel. Many women are oppressed to the authority of
men during the 1930 s. Janie s childhood was shaped by her nanny, but as she grows to be a young
woman she begins to realize that she craves independence and self worth. Janie says Why must Joe be
so mad with her for making him look small when he did it to her all the time? (Hurston 77), in this
quote Janie is saying that she believes it is a double standard for men to always put women down and
say that women are beneath men, but when a women does that to a man it is considered a horrible
action. When men make horrible remarks to women, society does not react with the same reaction as
they do with women, but if a woman was to insult a man, society will not tolerate that type of
behavior. Janie is beginning to question why it is acceptable for a man to disrespect a woman in
society, and she completely disagrees with the opinion of society. Another quote that supports Janie s
views is when she talks about her marital status by saying; She was borned in slavery time when folks,
dat is black folks, didn t sit down anytime dey felt lak it. So sittin on

Summary of Assignments During this practicum at the Durham Children s Aid Society (CAS), I have
taken advantage of numerous learning opportunities to develop skills and enhance my social work
practice. These assignments align with the goals and tasks outlined with in my Learning Agreement
and relate to the organizational, community, social work, and professional contexts of practice. This
summary will highlight how I have met each of these key learning outcomes.
Organizational Context of Practice Practicum at Durham CAS commenced with a student orientation
which focused on familiarizing students with the agency s mission, services, policies, and procedures.
This included a tour of the building during orientation and with my field instructor, reviewing the
Durham CAS Code of Ethics, and an introduction to colleagues. I also reviewed the Child and Family
Services Act (CFSA) and Eligibility Spectrum. I continued to strengthen my understanding of how
agency policies and services meet client needs through various shadowing opportunities. Some of
these experiences include shadowing a Children s Services Worker and participating in a Plan of Care
meeting, attending a home visit with a Kinship Worker, and shadowing Family Services Workers and
observing how they meet client needs during investigations, court matters, and home visits. While

Apples and Oranges
No two things could be more different than apples and oranges. Just by looking at them one can see
many different characteristics that set them apart from each other. Apples are red, yellow, russet, and
sometimes striped in color and oranges are usually orange. Oranges have to be peeled before one can
eat them. These two different fruits grow in different parts of the world, on different trees, and in
different climates. What could these complete opposites have in common? Surprisingly they share
many qualities that really do make them a lot alike. The apple is the most important tree fruit of the

Apple trees generally do not begin to blossom and bear fruit until they are 5 to 8 years old. They reach
maximum production at about age 20; commercial orchards are generally replaced when they reach 35
to 40 years in age. Although the trees would live longer, the fruit from old trees is generally smaller
and poorer in appearance and more expensive to care for. Apple trees can withstand temperatures as
low as 40 degrees C. Here in the United States apples mainly grow in Washington, Pennsylvania, New
York, Michigan and California. The trees need a period of cold or dormancy to grow and bear fruit
properly. So they cannot grow in tropic areas. Oranges on the other hand also were around in ancient
times. Some experts have proved that they date back as far as 4,000 years ago according to ancient
Chinese records. Oranges also come from the other side of the Atlantic. When Christopher Columbus
sailed for the New World, he carried with him seeds of oranges and other types of citrus fruits. The
seeds were planted on the island of Hispaniola. Just as the Europeans spread apple trees westward in
the United States by moving further that way. The Indians spread citrus trees beyond the Spanish
Plantations by dropping seeds from fruit they were eating. Soon groves were of wild citrus trees.
Orange trees never stop growing. By the time it is 20, it may be 4.5 meters (15 feet) high and

Essentially, Ritenbaugh expressed that God s word shows that He holds people accountable for
liability when people have careless disregard towards other people.
Conclusions
The case of Liebeck v. McDonald s clearly illustrates that companies must be mindful of not harming
consumers through defective provides, because consumers that are harmed by products, have the
ability to successfully win awards to be compensated for damages. With that in mind, it is
recommended that Divine Coffee Shops reduce coffee temperatures. According to the Burn
Foundation (2016), to eliminate the risk of burns, hot liquids should not be served beyond 160
degrees. The full article published by the Burn Foundation can be found here:
http://www.burnfoundation.org/programs/resource.cfm?c=1 a=3. To ensure that our customers are
protected, we must implement a policy of checking the temperature of the coffee, before serving
customers. The case of Liebeck v. McDonald s was been repeatedly cited as an example of frivolous
litigation in the United States. However, to Stella Liebeck, the lawsuit was not frivolous.
In summary, the outcome of the Liebeck v. McDonald s case resulted in Stella Liebeck having the

For Stella Liebeck, product liability laws protected her by ensuring she was compensated for the pain

hopefully realizing that the issue of the coffee being too hot needed to be corrected to make certain
that other consumers were not harmed. For the customer s of McDonalds, product liability laws
worked by future consumers not being harmed by McDonald s hot coffee, if the company took the
right steps to correct the problem, and by jurors sending the message that if harmed, consumers can

Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi And Ho Chi Minh

any means to achieve the national independence. Although he is a proletarian and upheld the Marxist
philosophy, the questions of moral or theory were weaker than nationalism. Gandhi more like a moral
teacher of his people and Ho Chi Minh more like a man who devoted into anti colonialism and
nationalism and used communist thoughts and crafty organization as the methods to gained the
national independence. The actions of these two leaders had some dramatic historical significance.
They were the personal inspiration for people who wanted to get freedom from colonial ruling.

The Soviet Union Of The Vietnam War
Throughout history, humans have tried to perfect government. Many wars have been started by world
powers trying to force their faulty government upon others. In the modern world, the Fascist
government of Nazi Germany oppressed minorities in the name of advancement. The Soviet Union
imprisoned millions in their immoral gulags, but justified it in the name fighting crime. Even looking
as far back as Ancient Greece, we saw these conflicts. Some of the greatest victories can be attributed
to a superior government. And yet, some of the worst acts of immorality have been done in the name
of superior government.
The great and free country of America, with the world s most powerful military, has long imposed its

Some of the disagreement was to be found in government. Sparta had a more fascist leaning
government, as opposed to Athens democratic governing system. Sparta created a completely
militarized system to help give them more influence, as they despised Athens wealth and power. Many
Spartans believed that their nationalist militarized monarchy was more just and right than the Athenian
democracy, where mob rule had the potential to run rampant. With mob rule, innocent people could be
put to death, if the majority of people believed they were guilty. It begins to seem nonsensical that
Sparta fought Athens, in part, to end their power to kill the innocent, and yet, Sparta did just that. In
their militarized state they would kill innocent infants that they believed weren t fit to fight. It is a
backward system, when a government kills the innocent to stop the murder of the innocent.
The opposing state to Athens may have had some reason, however, to believe that they were immoral.
In a famous case, the Greek philosopher, Socrates, was sentenced to death for corrupting the youth in
a controversial trial. Many believe that the case was unjust, and still, he was sentenced to death for a
non violent crime . This is a classic case of how democracy can cause the popular belief to become
law, even if the populous is immoral or incorrect.
Many claim that a superior form of government has been the cause of historic victories, such as

Berlin Cabaret Essay
The Berlin Cabaret in the Golden Twenties
The reaction of the bad economy after War World I, was unexpected in berlin, the population want to
look for pleasure and spend all their energy just pleasing their needs, instead of working to re establish
their economy after the devastating war. During this period the spread of the famous cabaret in berlin
was successful, these cabarets were restaurants and nightclubs where people sat at tables and talk
about politics, economy and afterwar themes, they also were entertained by singers, dancers, and
comedians on stages, making a different show that everybody loved. Because of the liberalism in
berlin after the war and the need of the people, cabaret was the new place of everybody to enjoy and

U.s. Patent Law And United States Essay
In the United States, both U.S. Patent Law and U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) law govern
the exclusivity rights for new pharmaceutical products. As Chinese companies invest research time
and money in developing new drugs, it is important to keep in mind both the relevant U.S. patent law
and the applicable FDA law that could affect the exclusivity period for that drug in the United States.
Mistakes in not obtaining proper patent coverage or satisfying the FDA laws could cost the drug
company valuable exclusivity rights when that drug is sold in the United States. For a successful drug,
the lost of exclusivity rights usually means the loss of substantial revenue and profit.
How can a drug innovator have exclusivity in the United States without a patent? The FDA will give a
five year exclusivity period for a new chemical entity (NCE) used in a drug. What does this mean?
During this five year exclusivity period, no other company can submit an Abbreviated New Drug
Application (ANDA) to the FDA seeking approval of a drug product containing the NCE. This
exclusivity period rewards the innovator for all of the research and development effort, including
expensive clinical tests to show the safety and efficacy of the NCE that must be done to support a New
Drug Application (NDA). The five year exclusivity period allows the NDA holder to recoup this
investment. Importantly, this exclusivity occurs regardless of whether or not a U.S. patent has been
issued.

Reducing Acid Rain through Mining and Smelting Industries http://miningandacidrain.weebly.com
What is Acid Rain?
Acid rain is rain that has been made acidic by certain pollutants in the air and has low pH levels that
can harm the environment. It is a type of acid deposition that can appear in many forms such as, wet
deposition, which can be rain, sleet snow or fog that is more acidic than normal, and dry deposition,
where gases and dust particles become acidic. (Epa.gov) Acid deposition in wet and dry forms, falls
on buildings, cars and trees and makes lakes acidic, which then leads to the danger of plant and animal
life. Dry acid deposition though, can be inhaled by humans, which can then cause health problems.
(Epa.gov)
How is Acid Rain Created?
When fossil fuels are burned to create electricity pollutants such as sulfur dioxide and nitrogen oxides
are released into the air. They then mix with oxygen and water in the air to form acid rain. These
chemicals can travel long distances in the rain before being deposited. (Epa.gov)
There are several different pollutants that can lead to acid rain such as SO2, SO3, NO2, and CO2.
These pollutants react with water to create acids as shown below.
Sulfur dioxide + water  sulfurous acid
Sulfur trioxide + water  sulfuric acid
Nitrogen dioxide + water  nitric acid + nitrous acid
Carbon dioxide + water  carbonic acid
Although Mining does not directly create acid rain, it does lead

Comparing Greek And Native American Creation Stories
Firstly, I would like to start off with the beginning where Greek creation stories with other creation
stories all started with chaos (nothing). Gaia and Uranus which were created as Mother Earth and the
Sky. Then Erebus was created in the void. In the Chinese creation story, the passage says all was
chaos, and this chaos was shaped like a hen s egg. Inside the egg were Yin and Yang , which were the
two opposing forces of which the universe was made. However the difference is that Gaia and Uranus
went on to give birth to Rhea and Cronus then they went onto giving birth to gods such as Zeus,
Poseidon and so on... There is a little more difference from the Greek creation stories and the Native
American creation stories, in the native American creation stories, the old man Kumish was created
and he would do all the creation himself rather than in the Greek creation stories; other gods creating
separate things. In Serbian creation stories in the beginning there was nothing but God. He slept and
dreamed for ages and he woke up at last at one point. As he woke up, every glance formed a star and
as he travelled the universe was created.

egg) was rented apart. The elements were created, the heavier ones sank to form earth and the lighter

Unfortunately, subsequent events in Puerto Rico s history prove that this type of view toward granting
of citizenship proposed in Ferré s novel was one of disillusionment. Reading the following paragraph
will help to clarify:
For this reason, our brand new American citizenship was hailed as a godsend, and a first class
celebration was in order. We would now have a definite identification with the most powerful country
in the world, and the golden eagle would be stamped on the cover of our passport. Henceforth, we
would cherish it as our magic shield: we could travel anywhere, no matter how far or exotic our
destination; we had the inalienable right to political asylum at the local American Embassy; and the
American ambassador would be our civil servant. (Ferré, p. 16)
First, I mentioned in an earlier paper of Early United States Rule that it appeared to me that citizenship
was granted conditionally, especially to be used as leverage against the Philippines who were another
United States territory but were not going to be granted citizenship. Second, a Puerto Rican historian,
Arturo Morales Carrión, explained that American citizenship was not in any way accompanied by full
political rights or self determination. United States still elected the governor, attorney general,
commissioner of education, and justices of Puerto Rican Supreme Court and the governor elected
treasurer and the interior among other positions. With the

Many of her charities came together and opened a Centre in India in her honor. After her death, in
1999, The Diana Princess of Wales Health Education and Media Centre opened in India. The purpose
of establishing the Centre was to promote Leprosy victims rights in India. After her death, the charities
she worked closely with, grieved for the loss of their global spokeswoman and publicity. Many of the
charities do not get as much media coverage as they did when Diana was alive. With her help, Diana
showed people all over the world the type of work she was doing. Without her voice the world was in
the dark about important work charities are doing in the world. Now the slack of Diana s work has
been picked up by her two sons, William and Harry. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She accomplished so much in her shortened lifetime. Many people all over the world wished to be in
Diana s shoes and often others tried, but they were simply too big to fill. No one else had the drive and
desire Diana did to save the world. A young patient once described Diana as, the friend who always
left us smiling (Wood 31). Her sons, William and Harry, do a lot to follow in their mother s footsteps
and they instill good through the sick and needy every day. Even William s wife, Catherine Middleton,
feels the pressures of the media and everyone that was close to Diana. Catherine feels the need to
fulfill her shoes because she sees her mother in law as a great person who should still needs to be
honored every day. Diana lived a very glamorous lifestyle, meeting new and exciting people
everywhere she went. She had the chance to become very good friends with Mother Teresa and Elton
John. She also g had the pleasure of meeting President Ronald Regan and the First Lady of the United
States of America. Diana also had the honor of dancing with John Travolta at the White House. He
describes his experience as, For fifteen minutes, she made me feel like a prince. It was absolutely
magical (Wood 28). Her legacy lives on through her family and the people that knew her well. Many
organizations, buildings and people have been named after her such as, her granddaughter Princess
Charlotte Elizabeth Diana of Cambridge.

Erikna Hayasaki Poverty
This Is Your Brain On Poor Response
In Erika Hayasaki s essay This Is Your Brain On Poor she talks about the effects that poverty and
depravity have on the human mind. This is often an overlooked aspect when people study poverty and
it s place in society but, it is incredibly important for helping those affected by poverty. Poverty and
social inequality is an issue that America has been dealing with for as long as we have a nation. While
some argue that poverty has no effect on the mind and mental development of those that grow up poor,
I think Hayasaki s argument that the effects of poverty are very real and detrimental to a person s mind
is much more sensible and realistic when examining the evidence brought with it.
When reading Hayasaki s writing I learned many things about ... Show more content on

Those who argue that poverty has no effects on the mind and development of those who grow up and
live in it are merely blind to the struggles of families that cannot afford the basic necessities needed to

that are undoubtedly less than ideal but, this writing has given me a new perspective on poverty and

Persuasive Essay Pool
Why would you want to go to pools, when you can go to
Better Beaches
When half of my town travel to there favorite pool club with their goggles, towels, and sun burns, I
will be at the beach with just my friends and the waves. When I asked Curtis the boy at my table his
summer plans, he responded with I ll be at the pool, obviously. This was the response of many of my
peers. However I will not be there. Many people say the beach is dirty. People say the sand and the
salt add up to a dreadful combo, and that the clean nice stone of a pool is better. In my opinion pools
are the dirty ones. Watching the life guards dump buckets of chlorine into already chemicalized water,
steers me right back to the ocean. You as a reader may not know ... Show more content on

Pools have an average depth of around 5.5 feet. The typical swimming pool dimensions are 10 x 20!
You could barely fit anything in there. In the pool if you re in you re in. The ocean is as deep and as
far as you want to go. The earth is about 90% water! The ocean never closes. It is open 24/7, you may
not want to go the beach at 12:00 pm but it s there. The pool is closed at 5:00 pm. Imagine you are in
the pool having the time of your life. Then all of the sudden over the cracky loud speakers you hear a
tired teenage lifeguard yell pool closing, time to go. Then you find yourself wrapped in a wet towel,
freezing in the car. All of this could be solved by simply going to the unclosable ocean. I go to the
beach in Maine every summer. The kid at the table named Nick believes that because of this, I am
biased to beaches. I think my beach attendance makes me an expert on this debacle. Who would you
trust, a once or twice a year pool goer, or a everyday beach expert? So what it really comes down to is
who you would trust, someone who is wrong or someone who is well,

The Changing Role of the First Ladies Essay
First lady is the unofficial title bestowed upon the wife of the president of the United States. The role
of the president of the United States originated with George Washington and so did the role of the first
lady. During these times, the roles of women were usually limited to being homemakers and hostesses.
Women did not work outside the home and often were not seen as equals to men. Therefore, the first
lady s duties at that time consisted of hosting social events and keeping the house in which the
president lived in order. Through the passage of time, the role of women has undergone a
metamorphosis. Women are now on a more level playing field with men and often hold powerful
positions in the workforce. With this change, the role ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Another influential first lady was Betty Ford. She was best remembered for her frankness and honesty,
which endeared her to the public. Years after she left the White House Ford would write in her
autobiography, I was an ordinary woman who was called onstage at an extraordinary time. I was no
different once I became first lady than I had been before. But, through an accident of history, I had
become interesting to people (Betty Ford). This statement summed up how Ford remained humble
about how popular she had become with the public. Early in her husband s presidency, Mrs. Ford was
diagnosed with breast cancer and had to undergo a mastectomy. She was open with the public about
what she was facing with the breast cancer. This was not the norm in Washington at the time. We were
in a position where my husband had been sworn into office during a very, very difficult time. There
had been so much cover up during Watergate that we wanted to be sure there would be no cover up in
the Ford Administration. So rather than continue this traditional silence about breast cancer, we felt we
had to be public (Betty Ford). This openness was well received by the public and led to a public
awareness about breast cancer, along with its detection and treatment. Betty Ford was often outspoken
and supported issues that she felt passionate about during her time as First Lady. She

How Did Conscription Change Canadian Identity
Firstly, the Conscription Crisis of 1942 provoked conflict between the French and English Canadians,
but also changed Canadian identity positively during the 1940s. Ever since World War ll began and
Canada joined the war the French Canadians highly opposed to the idea of conscription; [...]English
Canadians, who were mostly in favour of conscription, and French Canadians, who were strongly
opposed. To begin with, the prime minister of Canada at the time, Mackenzie King had acknowledged
the great disagreement the French Canadians had against conscription and made a promise to the
nation: King s government [...] had promised the nation, and particularly Quebec, that it would not
send any conscripts to serve overseas. The last thing that King wanted to do was to impose
conscription especially when Quebec strongly believed in anti conscription: The Quebec ministers
kept a strong vigil over King s anti conscription predisposition, reminding him of the terrible
divisiveness of the World War 1 ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The issue had bitterly divided the nation, and Mackenzie King, eyewitness to the first conscription
crisis, tried desperately to avoid another.
King was thrust between two forces, the French Canadians and the English Canadians and two
different opinions, conscription and no conscription: He couldn t anger English Canada by ignoring
the call for conscription, but enforcing it right away would alienate Quebec completely. So King
performed one of his classic political sidesteps by declaring, Not necessarily conscription but
conscription if necessary . Later the Minister of National Defence confirmed that overseas
conscription was necessary. [...]the Prime Minister was

Advantages Of Supercritical Fluids
Supercritical fluids (SCFs) exist at temperatures above the liquid vapor critical temperature and have
densities between liquid and vapor states. The advantages of supercritical fluids as environmentally
benign solvents arise from their non toxicity, non combustibility, availability and possibilities for
modulating physical and chemical properties through minor changes of temperature or pressure. These
fascinating features of SCFs lead to their important potentials as green alternatives to toxic organic
solvents and there have been many industrial and technological applications using SCFs [1 7]. During
the last two decades, there has been renewed interest in using supercritical water (SCW) in pyrolysis
[8], hydrolysis [9], oxidation [10], electrochemical reactions [11] and in material synthesis [12].
Physical properties ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These resulting differences have a direct consequence on the solvation properties of SCW. Ionic
association occurs to a larger extent in SCW because of the lower solubility of ions in water under
extreme conditions. Aqueous electrolyte solutions constitute an integral part of a large number of
biological and geological processes. Particularly, the thermodynamic properties of ions in supercritical
water (SCW) have crucial roles in many geological processes [13]. Therefore, it is important to study
and model the solvation structure and dynamics of aqueous electrolyte solutions in supercritical
conditions at the microscopic level for the purpose of understanding the chemical processes and
properties of such hydrothermal systems. Ion hydration and ion pair association in SCW have been the
important subjects for hydrothermal technologies [14]. Aqueous fluids which occur ubiquitously in the
earth s crust and upper mantle at higher temperatures and pressures are involved in magmatic
processes, metamorphism,

After the Mexican American War: Citizenship, Land Rights, and Violence
Through the ratification of The Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo on March 10, 1848 by the United States,
the war between the U.S. and Mexico came to an end. However, it can be argued that the legacy and

of race, culture, and social political status continue and although diplomatic peace may have occurred
the legal, cultural and physical violence continued. In this document, we will review the Treaty of

Virtue Theory And Abortion By Rosalind Hursthouse
PHI 107 Essay Assignment 11/24/15 Katelalyn Miller Virtue Theory is one of many different moral
theories that exist today. It is based off of Aristotle s Virtue Ethics which focuses on having an ideal
character. The main focus of Virtue Theory is the role of one s character, which is closely related to its
roots in Aristotle. A Virtue Theorist would do things because it is who they themselves are, not
because it is good to do them or because they will get something good from doing them. In the article,
Virtue Theory and Abortion , by Rosalind Hursthouse, she explains her view on abortion without
trying to solve the issue of if it is right or wrong. She, with the use of Virtue Theory, simply says that
an action is right only if a virtuous agent would do it were they in the same circumstances. She goes
on explaining how a Virtue Theorist needs to apply if actions are honest/dishonest and
charitable/uncharitable; without doing this then Virtue Theory would be of no use with real moral
issues because of a lack of argument. Hursthouse says that there are two main things taken into
consideration when speaking of the morality of abortion. The first thing is the status of the fetus,
meaning whether or not it is a conscious being and if it may or may not be killed. The second thing is
women s rights, if a woman has the right to choose what is best for her own body and mind over the

Role of the Family Explored in Slapstick and Grapes of Wrath
Role of the Family Explored in Slapstick and Grapes of Wrath
On Maslow s hierarchy of needs, the need for belongingness and love ranks only below the need for
survival, making it one of our most basic needs (Weiten 267). Many people fill this need for affection
by participating in a family unit. However, as the 20th century continues, the emphasis on family in
America is decreasing. Divorce rates, single parent households, and children born out of wedlock are
all increasing. Furthermore, instead of the network of aunts, uncles, grandparents, cousins, and other
relatives that was prevalent in early America, Americans today are more distant from their extended
family. As sociologist David Elkind said in a 1996 interview with ... Show more content on

Today s nuclear family with mom, dad, 2.3 kids, and dog only came into being just after the Industrial
Revolution (Swerdolow 15). This leads to the idea that perhaps the desengration of the nuclear family
isn t necessarily a negative things, but more of a retirement of a one way of life in favor of a new one.
Even if this is true, the current period of decline still spurns numerous problems and attempted
solutions.
The changing family isn t a new issue. Over twenty years ago, Kurt Vonnegut presented the idea of the
artificial family in his book Slapstick. President Wilbur Swain, the central character in the novel,
inacts a plan to bring all people in America together by giving them artificial families based on
randomly assigned middle names; the program reaps both positive and negative results. Despite the
many science fiction devices used in the book, the story shows Vonnegut s deep concern for the family
unit. After being asked what was happening to America in an interview, Vonnegut responded by
saying, We re lonesome. We don t have enough friends and relatives anymore (qtd. in Reed and Leeds
116) Almost twenty years before Vonnegut started publishing, John Steinbeck began to explore the
changes taking place in the family during the Great Depression in The Grapes of Wrath. Though the
book has many layers and themes, one of the major one s is the changing family. In 1933, six years

Does Hpv Vaccination Within Msm Significantly Prevent...
Clinical Question: Does HPV vaccination in MSM significantly prevent anogenital neoplasia
occurrence and recurrence compared to not being vaccinated? Introduction Anogenital cancer (rectal,
anal, anal canal, anorectum, penis and other genital) rates are on the rise with 27,660 estimated new
male cases and 710 estimated male deaths in the United States last year alone.1 Currently, the Center
for Disease Control (CDC) recommends vaccination in the men who have sex with men (MSM)
population up to age 26 if they had not received it when they were younger.2 There are no current
recommendations for this population who are greater than age 26 who have not previously received
the vaccine. As age of an individual and number of lifetime sexual partners increases, the risk of
developing anal cancer also increases. Men who have had 15 sexual partners during their lifetime
show an increase in risk of developing anal cancer (OR=5.3; 95% CI, 2.4 12.0). Additionally, men
who practice receptive anal intercourse is independently related to an increased risk of developing
anal cancer (OR=6.8; 95% CI 1.4 33.8).3 These findings suggest that the MSM population, especially
the aging MSM population, is a high risk group that could benefit from vaccination protecting against
the strains of Human Papiloma Virus (HPV) that are associated with cancer development. This
growing need is addressed through extensive research of relevant literature answering the question

Similarities Between Racism And Prejudice In To Kill A...
Racism and prejudice is a reoccurring issue throughout To Kill A Mockingbird and is also one of the
leading topics in the book, as stated by Atticus I hope and pray I can get Jem and Scout through it
without bitterness, and most of all, without catching Maycomb s usual disease. . To put it simply,
Maycomb s usual disease is just another way of saying racism and prejudice, both of those things are
in fact a disease, and are labeled as such because of the similarities. A disease is only harmful and can
bring no good, the same applies for racism and prejudice, a disease can ruin a life (or lives), and the
same applies for prejudice and racism. It is a truly evil thing and even though the book takes place in
the 1930 s, when racism was more prevalent than it is today, prejudice and racism are still a relevant
issue and topic. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
His actions are described as strange and mysterious, not to mention the fact that he lacks basic social
skills needed to survive outside his home which was caused by people being so judgemental, he just
couldn t fit in. Racial prejudice throughout To Kill A Mockingbird is prominent and is a large part of
Tom Robinson s case from chapters 17 21 (subject to change depending on the book you have). In
chapter 9, Francis tells Scout that her dad is a nigger lover for taking up the Tom Robinson case, and
Scout beats him up for it. This shows that even in youth during these times in history, the disease of
prejudice was taught to them, if one were to be raised in a society with no bias or predisposed
stereotypes, then maybe the world would be a better place. Prejudice is also spread through lies, a bad
experience following up with categorizing of a race or otherwise, and bad influence from those who
were raised around racism and common bias, however stopping it can be a very difficult

A Marxist Reading of Shakespeare s Coriolanus Essay examples
A Marxist Reading of Coriolanus
One popular dissecting instrument of any Shakespearean character is the modern tool of
psychoanalysis. Many of Shakespeare s great tragic heroes Macbeth, Hamlet, King Lear, and Othello,
to name a few have all been understood by this method of plying back and interpreting the layers of
motivation and desire that constitute every individual. Add to this list Shakespeare s Roman warrior
Coriolanus. His strong maternal ties coupled with his aggressive and intractable nature have been ideal
fodder for modern psychoanalytic interpretation. This interpretation, however, falls within a larger,
political context. For despite the fact that Coriolanus is a tragedy largely because of the foibles of its

Marxism, essentially, is a theory of the proletarian liberation movement. This theory is dialectic in that
society is seen as a composition of contraries (e.g., rich vs. poor), and that what makes humanity
evolve is the struggle between these contraries. The triumph of one over the other produces change.
Change, however, is resisted by the ruling class because most, if not all, of the wealth is concentrated
in their hands; they in turn control the means of production, allowing them to exploit the workers for
their own ends and widen the gap between the rich and poor even more in the process. This situation
produces alienation in the worker; it deprives him of something, and this is not only degrading but
depersonalizing as well (Appignanesi, 79).
From this perspective, Menenius fable of the belly is clearly fallacious and intended to instill a false
state of consciousness in his listeners. The tale deflects the cause of the plebeians hunger from the
patricians right back at the plebeians themselves:
... For the dearth,
The gods, not the patricians, make it, and
Your knees to them, not arms, must help (I.i.63 65).
Modern capitalist apologists use much the same argument as this, only instead of directing the
working class to pray to the gods to better their lot in life, they

  • 2. A Summary On The Film The Night Over the colossal castle, the spherical star above leaned cautiously. The noose eclipsed the sunlight; relentless guards grabbed their attention of every creature which had clinking chains glued to their soiled feet. Led by enslaving chains; the mist blew through the ashen compound. As dejected hostages babbled helplessly, faint whimpers deafened the abominable scene. Masking beats of drums pursued every hesitant shuffle. Anxiously, the morose hostages scuffled onwards; they limped in desperation onto the wooden deck. The inmates blistered, wounded soles struggled. Wrapping it around the peasant s bony neck, scraping away at the remaining skin, the ruffian beast grabbed the noose. Mercilessly, he grasped the corroded lever and heaved it. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The atmosphere created a faded glow that crept behind them. Their vacant eyes had such a vivid blue in life that made the others afraid to see what they looked like after death. Their luminous and gleam of their eyes would soon cease and never return. The hostage s last image in their minds would be pale, dreary corpses which are discarded. A clammed breeze lifted the cinders from the gallows, shrouding the atmosphere in a copper haze. The silver coin reflected with its qualities of molten riches; weathered by its eternal existence, it sat in the diminutive palm of his hand. The relic glistened in the sun. With apprehensive energy, his eyes coruscated as a celestial voice broke out of him; the ruthless executioner yanked the defenceless child onto the wooden barrel, putting a noose around head as it swallowed it whole. As he sang, he reflected on his mortal life; knowing it would vanish briskly. The adolescence, timid boy s soul poured past the rotten, blanched ground which flawed into the emotions of the aghast crowd. Just then, death was roused. Dubiously, the vigorous executioner marched behind him, wondering what raised his feeble audacity. Surrounding him, there was an aura of ashen charcoal; a state of abasement that he couldn t see himself through. It was a world of obscurity; the glossy glint he had revealed. His melancholy, colourless eyes spoke of his depraved anguish. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Theory Of Robert Pickton As A Serial Killer First, the theory chosen for the social science discipline, psychology is psychosocial. The focus of the theory is how Robert Pickton became a serial killer due to the environment he grew up in and relationships. Pickton s parents ran a meat business in Port Coquitlam and Pickton alongside his brother helped them. Pickton s mother was tough and had the children work on a strict schedule. In addition, Pickton s father had very little influence in his life, but his mother can be the key influence in why he murders women. Pickton was close to his mother and she also was a major authority figure in his life. Consequently, Pickton could have grown a hatred towards women due to his mother and is the reason he targets women. Enough hatred to ensure his victims suffer by raping and killing them Also, due to his mother making him work hard on the farm he had little to no childhood. Pickton did raise a calf and was very close to it, however, the calf was slaughtered. As a result, Pickton never forgot it and also said from CBC News, the incident made him realize life was fleeting. Additionally, Pickton is used to seeing things being killed and dying because he saw many animals being slaughtered when he was young. Death in his eyes has been normalized and is not an unusual occurrence. This is a key reason Pickton does not feel remorse for the killing of his victims because it is normal to him. Furthermore, Pickton was quiet and socially awkward, sometimes exhibiting unusual behaviour. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. George Wilhelm Friedrich and the French Revolution Essay George Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel was a German Philosopher who was born in Stuttgart in 1770. As a young man, he studied theology, but was also impelled to explore philosophy due to the upheaval of this treacherous time in history. The Reign of Terror and French Revolution had a huge impact on Germany and Europe, and Hegel became caught up in the fervor and outrage of the period and wanted to take a deeper look at the events that were occurring. His look and analysis of the French Revolution is what began his reflection of history. After graduation from the seminary, Hegel joined the faculty of the University of Jena, the philosophic center of Germany. While there, he wrote Phenomenology of Spirit, his first major book. Hegel left the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Original historians relied heavily upon the writings of other contemporaries, because it would be impossible for them to have seen everything that occurred at once. Original history is where we get direct accounts of legend, folklore, and traditions because a person would have to have been there to truly know about these. The great advantage that original historians have over the others is that they lived through and were shaped by the events as they unfolded. They can descriptively write about them from their experience, as opposed to a historian writing accounts based on the writings of others hundreds of years later. Hegel said of these historians, The influences that have formed the writer are identical with those which have moulded the events that constitute the matter of his story. The author s spirit, and that of the actions he narrates, is one and the same (www.marxists.org). The second kind of history described in Hegel s Philosophy of History, Reflective history, is written after the time period being described has passed. These historians endeavor to show connections between and reasons for historical events. Hegel distinguishes four types of Reflective History: Universal, Pragmatic, Critical, and Specialized. Universal history attempts to cover and describe a long period of time and gives an overview of, for example, an entire people or entire nations. This type of history is broad and represents general facts and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Iago s Motives Of Stock Characters In Othello can be interpreted in many ways, each person views it differently. Each account being influenced by the viewers [audience] own life experiences. Rosenberg and McCloskey, unlike Stempel, are very sympathetic of Iago. I think that when trying to understand the character Iago, first we need to recognize what Shakespeare s original intentions for the play were, and also the style of plays he tended to write, as they all have obvious similarities. Rather than writing about stock characters, which was common in the theater during Elizabethan times, Shakespeare wrote about people who seemed real. Rosenberg believes that Shakespeare s intentions for the play was to be a story of betrayal between two friends, it is quite possible that Shakespeare was drawn to this story because it was one of betrayal; the theme was one of his ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... McCloskey, in order to determine what Iago s motives were in Othello by William Shakespeare. Stempel is very much a symbolist critic. Stempel is of the belief that Iago is the symbol of evil, he has little sympathy towards Iago, in that he compares him to the devil. On the other hand Rosenberg argues against Stempel, claiming that Iago is an intelligent, cunning character who is like many characters so commonly used the psychological style of writing. McCloskey similar to Rosenberg thinks that Iago was a man who merely set out to seek justice, who had gotten so far that it was too late to remove himself from the situation. After researching and examining the papers of these critics it has become clear that Iago did not carry out evil for the sake of it, he had a motive. Iago had a lot of jealous and hate built up inside of him, he, like many people had a reputation to attain. Since Othello and Cassio harmed his reputation, he planned to get revenge. Overcome with power, and emotions, Iago lacked the will to refrain himself from causing such ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Essay on Ford Competition In a present day of global warming, environmental issues, labor unions, and other impacts, the automobile industry is in an era of instability and change. Ford Motor Company has been traditionally considered one of the Big Three in the auto industry, but they are not adapting as well as hoped to the changing industry, and will have to strategize to survive in a struggling industry. There are many different risk factors for Ford and its competitors. In this paper we will look at two competitors for Ford that are also considered to be members of the Big Three and coincidently, are not adapting to changes in the auto industry as quickly as other competitors. These other companies are General Motors (GM) and Daimler Chrysler. We will ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Ford feels that although steps have been taken to lower their health care expenses, the cost to the company will continue to rise for the foreseeable future. Foreign car manufacturers have on average lower health care and employee costs, giving them an advantage over Ford, GM, and Daimler Chrysler. Ford Motor Co is hoping to take steps to offset the costs of employee benefits; however, this could also lead to negative publicity for the company. Foreign auto makers are able to maintain lower costs with non unionized and on average, younger employees. The next risk factor for the auto industry is commodity and energy price increases. Steel and resin (plastic) are the two most used commodities for auto manufacturers, and they are products in high demand for many industries. Rising awareness of sustainability and rising demand for these products has lead to recent price increases, and it is estimated to continue this trend. This factor targets all of the auto industry, but again hits the big three and other auto manufacturers harder then it does some of the foreign car manufacturers. Japanese auto makers have long been seen as efficient smaller car manufacturers, where the big three have moved to the larger SUV type vehicle. By building smaller vehicles, Japanese auto makers reduce their dependency and therefore their costs on steel and resin. The second risk coming from the comparative sizes of vehicles being manufactured by the auto makers is the cost ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The main effect of the fall of Constantinople in 1453 was the downfall of the Byzantine Empire and the rise of the Ottoman Empire. The city was mainly populated by Christians and now has become an Islamic city. The capture of Constantinople stated the end of the Roman Empire, which lasted for about one thousand five hundred years. The invasion of the city of Constantinople and the end of the Byzantine Empire marked the end of the Middle Ages. The downfall of Constantinople was one of the greatest fortified cities in the world. The Fall of Constantinople was the takeover of the capital of the Byzantine Empire, and happened after an attack by the Ottoman Empire against the defending army. The commander of the attack by the Ottoman Empire was Emperor Constantine XI. It all began when Constantine found a new capital at the Bosporus, which he named Constantinople. Sultan Mehmed II, ruler of the Ottoman Turks, was the leader of the assault. The city of Constantinople was defeated by around ten thousand men. On the opposing side, the Turks had between one hundred thousand and one hundred fifty thousand men on their side with the advantage. This battle and attack lasted for fifty days. To me, I think a single word has the power to dramatically change someone s day, or life. I know when people say negative, mean things about me, even though they may think it is a joke, my feelings get hurt, and when they say positive, nice things about me I get happy. My mood can instantly change depending on whether someone says something nice, or something mean about me. Words of discouragement brought me down; I let other people define me. Geoff has not had to compete with other flavor suppliers and has been able to charge Tastyco high prices for both new and existing flavors. * Givaudan s R amp;D team has been working directly with the R amp;D team at Tastyco in a number of technical areas, including conducting Flavor 101 training. * Tastyco has a new Purchasing Manager Susan Challis who recently contacted Geoff ... Michael rejects a price reduction by explaining that while there is profit on variable costs, the fixed costs of manufacturing sites and the expertise of flavorists still needs to be covered. He also points out the investment in technical innovations and flavors library which shouldn t be given away for free. * Michael asks Geoff to put together some options to allow Givaudan to continue working profitably with Tastyco. Girls wear jeans and cut their hair short and wear shirts and boots because it is okay to be a boy; for a girl it is like promotion. But for a boy to look like a girl is degrading, according to you, because secretly you believe that being a girl is degrading (McEwan 55 56). Throughout the history of literature women have been viewed as inferior to men, but as time has progressed the idealistic views of how women perceive themselves has changed. In earlier literature women took the role of being the housewife or the household caretaker for the family while the men provided for the family. Considering the American novel Their Eyes Were Watching God is written by Zora Neale Hurston in 1937. In the novel Janie Crawford plays the main character and has a very subservient mind, but as the novel progresses, so does her attitude and views on self worth and independence. Women s freedom and lack of independence serves a big role in the novel. Many women are oppressed to the authority of men during the 1930 s. Janie s childhood was shaped by her nanny, but as she grows to be a young woman she begins to realize that she craves independence and self worth. Janie says Why must Joe be so mad with her for making him look small when he did it to her all the time? (Hurston 77), in this quote Janie is saying that she believes it is a double standard for men to always put women down and say that women are beneath men, but when a women does that to a man it is considered a horrible action. When men make horrible remarks to women, society does not react with the same reaction as they do with women, but if a woman was to insult a man, society will not tolerate that type of behavior. Janie is beginning to question why it is acceptable for a man to disrespect a woman in society, and she completely disagrees with the opinion of society. Their names were Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune. They all grew up together as best friends, but when it came to being entertained, the brothers and sisters were not the best at it. Sparta created a completely militarized system to help give them more influence, as they despised Athens wealth and power. With mob rule, innocent people could be put to death, if the majority of people believed they were guilty. It begins to seem nonsensical that Sparta fought Athens, in part, to end their power to kill the innocent, and yet, Sparta did just that. Patent Law And United States Essay In the United States, both U.S. Patent Law and U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) law govern the exclusivity rights for new pharmaceutical products. As Chinese companies invest research time and money in developing new drugs, it is important to keep in mind both the relevant U.S. patent law and the applicable FDA law that could affect the exclusivity period for that drug in the United States. Mistakes in not obtaining proper patent coverage or satisfying the FDA laws could cost the drug company valuable exclusivity rights when that drug is sold in the United States. For a successful drug, the lost of exclusivity rights usually means the loss of substantial revenue and profit. How can a drug innovator have exclusivity in the United States without a patent? The FDA will give a five year exclusivity period for a new chemical entity (NCE) used in a drug. What does this mean? During this five year exclusivity period, no other company can submit an Abbreviated New Drug Application (ANDA) to the FDA seeking approval of a drug product containing the NCE. This exclusivity period rewards the innovator for all of the research and development effort, including expensive clinical tests to show the safety and efficacy of the NCE that must be done to support a New Drug Application (NDA). Unfortunately, subsequent events in Puerto Rico s history prove that this type of view toward granting of citizenship proposed in Ferré s novel was one of disillusionment. Reading the following paragraph will help to clarify: For this reason, our brand new American citizenship was hailed as a godsend, and a first class celebration was in order. We would now have a definite identification with the most powerful country in the world, and the golden eagle would be stamped on the cover of our passport. Henceforth, we would cherish it as our magic shield: we could travel anywhere, no matter how far or exotic our destination; we had the inalienable right to political asylum at the local American Embassy; and the American ambassador would be our civil servant. (Ferré, p. 16) First, I mentioned in an earlier paper of Early United States Rule that it appeared to me that citizenship was granted conditionally, especially to be used as leverage against the Philippines who were another United States territory but were not going to be granted citizenship. Second, a Puerto Rican historian, Arturo Morales Carrión, explained that American citizenship was not in any way accompanied by full political rights or self determination. The advantages of supercritical fluids as environmentally benign solvents arise from their non toxicity, non combustibility, availability and possibilities for modulating physical and chemical properties through minor changes of temperature or pressure. These fascinating features of SCFs lead to their important potentials as green alternatives to toxic organic solvents and there have been many industrial and technological applications using SCFs [1 7]. • 47. Virtue Theory And Abortion By Rosalind Hursthouse PHI 107 Essay Assignment 11/24/15 Katelalyn Miller Virtue Theory is one of many different moral theories that exist today. It is based off of Aristotle s Virtue Ethics which focuses on having an ideal character. The main focus of Virtue Theory is the role of one s character, which is closely related to its roots in Aristotle. A Virtue Theorist would do things because it is who they themselves are, not because it is good to do them or because they will get something good from doing them. In the article, Virtue Theory and Abortion , by Rosalind Hursthouse, she explains her view on abortion without trying to solve the issue of if it is right or wrong. She, with the use of Virtue Theory, simply says that an action is right only if a virtuous agent would do it were they in the same circumstances. She goes on explaining how a Virtue Theorist needs to apply if actions are honest/dishonest and charitable/uncharitable; without doing this then Virtue Theory would be of no use with real moral issues because of a lack of argument. Hursthouse says that there are two main things taken into consideration when speaking of the morality of abortion. The first thing is the status of the fetus, meaning whether or not it is a conscious being and if it may or may not be killed. The second thing is women s rights, if a woman has the right to choose what is best for her own body and mind over the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Role of the Family Explored in Slapstick and Grapes of Wrath Role of the Family Explored in Slapstick and Grapes of Wrath On Maslow s hierarchy of needs, the need for belongingness and love ranks only below the need for survival, making it one of our most basic needs (Weiten 267). Many people fill this need for affection by participating in a family unit. However, as the 20th century continues, the emphasis on family in America is decreasing. Divorce rates, single parent households, and children born out of wedlock are all increasing. Today s nuclear family with mom, dad, 2.3 kids, and dog only came into being just after the Industrial Revolution (Swerdolow 15). Even if this is true, the current period of decline still spurns numerous problems and attempted solutions. The changing family isn t a new issue. Over twenty years ago, Kurt Vonnegut presented the idea of the artificial family in his book Slapstick. Clinical Question: Does HPV vaccination in MSM significantly prevent anogenital neoplasia occurrence and recurrence compared to not being vaccinated? Introduction Anogenital cancer (rectal, anal, anal canal, anorectum, penis and other genital) rates are on the rise with 27,660 estimated new male cases and 710 estimated male deaths in the United States last year alone.1 Currently, the Center for Disease Control (CDC) recommends vaccination in the men who have sex with men (MSM) population up to age 26 if they had not received it when they were younger.2 There are no current recommendations for this population who are greater than age 26 who have not previously received the vaccine. As age of an individual and number of lifetime sexual partners increases, the risk of developing anal cancer also increases. Men who have had 15 sexual partners during their lifetime show an increase in risk of developing anal cancer (OR=5.3; 95% CI, 2.4 12.0). Additionally, men who practice receptive anal intercourse is independently related to an increased risk of developing anal cancer (OR=6.8; 95% CI 1.4 33.8).3 These findings suggest that the MSM population, especially the aging MSM population, is a high risk group that could benefit from vaccination protecting against the strains of Human Papiloma Virus (HPV) that are associated with cancer development. This theory is dialectic in that society is seen as a composition of contraries (e.g., rich vs. poor), and that what makes humanity evolve is the struggle between these contraries. The triumph of one over the other produces change. Change, however, is resisted by the ruling class because most, if not all, of the wealth is concentrated in their hands; they in turn control the means of production, allowing them to exploit the workers for their own ends and widen the gap between the rich and poor even more in the process. This situation produces alienation in the worker; it deprives him of something, and this is not only degrading but depersonalizing as well (Appignanesi, 79).
