Environmental Degradation And Its Effects On Our Environment
We, as humans, have always had a prevalent impact on our environment and our world as a whole.
Not only has our societal presence caused negative global impact, but our expedited population
growth has also had an extreme physical impact on earth. An example of the effects of our
extensiveness is, ...86% of the world s resources are consumed by only the wealthiest one fifth of
humanity... (globalissues.org). this means that 4/5ths of the planet already has limited access to
resources that are naturally found on earth. In addition to our excessive consumption of the earth
natural resources, environmental degradation is the result of extreme pollution and wastes that have
made their way into our atmosphere. Because of our severe impact on nature, it is crucial that we stop
the accelerated deterioration of our environment by decreasing our misuse of earth s natural resources,
reducing the use of unnecessary technology in our environment and practicing more ecologically
responsible lifestyles. This can help protect the environment and sustain its natural resources for
current and future generations (thrall.org).
The earth s immense population is one of the biggest factors for environmental degradation. In the
reading Easter s End by Jared Diamond, he discussed the extinction of the Polynesian people of Easter
Island. One of the biggest reasons why they went extinct was because they wiped out their only forest,
ran out of life sustaining soil and turned to cannibalism. This

The Passionate Shepherd Of His Love By Christopher Marlowe
Since the beginning of humankind, people have sought partners to share their lives with.
Adam himself being lonely and destitute was paired with Eve to share in all life s joys and
tribulations. Many would agree that life is best spent in the company of another and without
companionship, our existence would be dull and wearisome. The Passionate Shepherd to His Love by
Christopher Marlowe is a pastoral poem published in 1599 where a man attempts to find
companionship because he is lonely. Marlowe creates a majestic rural world encompassed by natural
beauty in which the Shepherd attempts to court a presumably young woman. The Nymph s reply to
the Shepherd by Sir Walter Raleigh was written in response to The Passionate Shepherd to His Love in
1600, one year after its publication. This Story takes place in the same area as the previous poem but
is now narrated by the Shepherds love interest rather than the Shepherd himself. With both poems
having different speakers insight is gained into the thought process of both the Nymph and the
Sheppard. Using this information it can be ascertained that the Nymph and the Shappard are
incompatible because they have different viewpoints on love and its obtainment. The Shepherd does
not offer acceptable terms to the Nymph, his principles are inconsistent with her own, and he is a
romantic while she is a realist. One desires the life of those in the garden of Eden while the other
denies its existence. Marlow opens The

Iroquois Confederacy
IROQUOIS CONFEDERACY
by Loretta Hall
OVERVIEW
The Iroquois Confederacy, an association of six linguistically related tribes in the northeastern
woodlands, was a sophisticated society of some 5,500 people when the first white explorers
encountered it at the beginning of the seventeenth century. The 1990 Census counted 49,038 Iroquois
living in the United States, making them the country s eighth most populous Native American group.
Although Iroquoian tribes own seven reservations in New York state and one in Wisconsin, the
majority of the people live off the reservations. An additional 5,000 Iroquois reside in Canada, where
there are two Iroquoian reservations. The people are not averse to adopting new technology when it is

During that period, the Iroquois began to acquire European trade goods through raids on other Indian
tribes. They found the metal axes, knives, hoes, and kettles far superior to their implements of stone,
bone, shell, and wood. Woven cloth began to replace the animal skins usually used for clothing
materials.
The recurring raids prompted the French to help their Indian allies attack the Iroquois in 1609,
opening a new technological era for the people of the Confederacy. French body armor was made of
metal, whereas that of the Iroquois was made of slatted wood. Furthermore, the French fought with
firearms, while traditional Iroquois weapons were bows and arrows, stone tomahawks, and wooden
warclubs.
In response to European influence, the Iroquois gradually changed their military tactics to incorporate
stealth, surprise, and ambush. Their motives for fighting also changed. In the past, they had fought for
prestige or revenge, or to obtain goods or captives; now they fought for economic advantage, seeking
control over bountiful beaver hunting grounds or perhaps a stash of beaver skins to trade for European
goods.
Although it provided the Indians with better tools, European incursion into the territory was disastrous
for the indigenous people. In the 1690s alone, the Iroquois lost between 1,600 and 2,000 people in
fighting with other Indian tribes. In addition, European diseases such as smallpox, measles, influenza,
lung infections,

Woodrow Wilson s Economic Reform
Woodrow Wilson is a reformer. He focused on the reform of the social, political and economic aspect
of the United States. He is also the only democratic president between 1897 to 1933. He was known to
be progressive. During his first term, the Federal Reserve Act, Clayton Antitrust Act and Federal Farm
Loan Act was passed. The Federal Reserve Act created the Federal Reserve System. The system can
issue the US dollar. Clayton Antitrust Act is an antitrust law. It protected the customers from the
monopoly of the business. It tried to stop the price discrimination and thus stop the monopoly of the
business. It took control of the mergers and acquisitions. Federal Farm Loan Act increased the credit
for the farmers. Farmers were able to borrow money more easily with a bigger amount. The rate of
interest is lower so the farmers could repay the loan easier. It helped the normal citizen to fight against
the big companies. Woodrow Wilson also established the Federal Trade Commision. The power of the
companies was limited by the reformers and the government. Theodore Roosevelt sided with the

Wilson tried to put down the national tariff. It was at about 40% before he took action. After the
Underwood Tariff Act was passed in 1913, the tariff returned back to 25% and some tax like tax on
sugar was eliminated. The business reform was accomplished by the Federal Trade Commision and
the Clayton Antitrust Act while the banking reform was accomplished by the Federal Farm Loan Act
and Federal Reserve Act. Woodrow Wilson accomplished all his goal listed in the New Freedom. He
passed the child labour act to protect the normal citizen. He fought for the limited working hours and

The Dead By James Joyce Meaning
After reading The Dead by James Joyce, I came to the conclusion that the title of the short story has a
very deep meaning, both literally and figuratively. The reason for which I believe the title has a literal
meaning is that the author briefly mentions about some secondary characters, who in one way or
another, are part of the story but are no longer alive. Some of these characters are the following: Pat
Morkan (Brother of Kate and Julia), Ellen Morkan Conroy (Mother of Gabriel), T.J Conroy (Member
of the Dublin Port and Docks Board, and Father of Gabriel), Patrick Morkan (Owner of a starch mill,
and Father of Kate and Julia), and, especially, Michael Furey (Gretta s first lover who died for the love
of her). At the same time, I consider

Essay on The Most Effective Absolute Rulers
The Most Effective Absolute Rulers During the late 1400s and 1500s, many rulers took great
measures to centralize political power and place it in their own hands. This lead to the occurrence of
absolute monarchies, some of which I thought were overall very effective. In absolute monarchies,
theoretically the monarch is all powerful, with no legal limitations to his or her authority. Absolutism
in Europe was characteristically justified by the doctrine of divine right, according to which the
monarch reigns all powerfully by the will of God. The intention of absolute monarchs is to utilize his
or her power in an effective, better organized way, despite its weaknesses or negative consequences;
and from my perspective, I would have to say ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He also increased the size of the army, gave soldiers better training and introduced new weapons to
military. I personally think that the life of Louis XIV had its many ups and downs, but over all he was
a very good man and effective ruler. If it were not for Louis XIV, France would be a very different
place today. I m surprised he is responsible for many elegant buildings in France and especially Paris.
Despite all the wrong things he did that hurt his nation, I think it could have probably gotten worse if
he had not come along. Even today it interests me that Louis s armies, that were opposed by an
alliance of the European powers, lost most of their major battles, but won control of Spain.
For my part, Frederick the Great – a great general as well as a skilled absolute monarch – was one of
the most effective absolute monarchs of his time. I think he was an effective absolute monarch
because of his contribution to the small but militarily powerful German state of Prussia in becoming
an absolute monarchy. The rise of Prussia between 1600s and 1700s occurred as a result of a
combination of military, political, and social factors lead by Frederick s contribution. I chose
Frederick II as a great effective absolute monarch based on his actions that affected his people. He did
many great things for the significance of his absolute monarchy. Frederick II of Prussia made reforms
and changes that were ideas of the Enlightenment. He wanted to further his country and

Causes Of War Of 1812
On July 18, 1812, the United States declared war on Britain which resulted in the beginning of The
War of 1812. The War of 1812 was a military conflict between the United States and Great Britain.
The war lasted from 1812 to 1814. The War started when the colony of Great Britain and Canada, was
invaded by the Americans. The war was fought in Upper Canada, Lower Canada, on the Great Lakes,
the Atlantic, and in the United States. The War of 1812 was a big dispute between the United States
and the British Empire. The British limited the American trade system because they were afraid it
would be damaging to their war with France. They also wanted to arrange for an Indian state in the
Midwest. They wanted to do this to maintain their influence in the region. That s why 10,000 Native
Americans fought for the British in the war of 1812. Because Canada was a British colony at this time,
Canadians were considered as British allies. Americans just wanted to prove their independence from
the British Empire once and for all.
As you can see there were multiple causes of the War of 1812. One main cause was because Great
Britain had full power over most of Canada and Americans wanted them to leave so they could expand
the United States. Another cause would be because the trade ban by Britain and France proceeded in
the capturing of American ships. Lastly, because, Great Britain had begun to stop American ships and
forced the people on the ships to join the British Navy. The United

Human Resource Frames
Change Analysis
Despite higher education institutions being a place of learning and reflection. The political and
symbolic frames captures most school s typical organizational life, which is steeped in structured
policies, roles and hierarchy; tradition, ceremonies and rituals (Bolman Deal, 2013). Due to these
complexities COCE deans do not prescribe to human resource frame relationships (Bolman Deal,
2013). Too often, Bolman and Deal (2013) assert organizations rely on a limited perspective in
addressing organizational problems and challenges. Such limited perspectives, Bolman and Deal
(2013) conclude hinders an organization s abilities to develop effective solutions for complex

enrollment forecast) and policies (e.g. grading, curriculum). This frame is often described by Bolman
and Deal (2013) as the factory or machine the element of organizations need to exist for effectiveness.
Because this frame is more or less one sided, and emphasizes rules and policies dictated from COCE
leadership to its adjuncts. It is not the most appropriate framework for a collaborative efforts, such as a
professional learning community (PLC).
Human Resource Frame
The human resource frame tends to be most challenging for COCE deans, as well as many other
leaders. The human resource frame provokes the concept of an organizations being like an extended
family with needs, feelings, skills, and limitations (Bolman Deal, 2013). It is within this frame COCE
structurally inclined leadership collide with the tenants of relationship and family of the human
resource framework (Bolman Deal, 2013). Because the human resource framework is grounded in
compassion, support and empowerment. This is the frame and leadership characteristics needed to
support and successfully lead the action plan to establish a PLC for

Tax Advice Privilege Case Study
I. Identified Issues Several problems have resulted from the current interpretation of §7525. First, the
fact that there are many/more cases where assertion of the tax advice privilege is denied shows that it
is not understood (obviously, it can be a litigation/stalling technique, but
misinformation/misunderstanding can be a big part of it too). Second, uniform adoption/recognition of
the proper name of the privilege can help dispel incorrect assumptions or inferences/impressions. Don
t call it the tax practitioner/accountant client privilege, because that leads people to believe that the
WHO is important, when in reality, it s the WHAT that is most important (legal tax advice is
privileged because it s legal tax advice, not because it was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The statute says that anything with a CPA is privileged if same stuff is privileged if with an attorney.
But courts have shown that this is not the case. Unlike attorney work product, accountant work
product is not privileged. Some communications that otherwise may be privileged are not because
they are included in mixed/dual purpose communications/documents. The language of the statute
could be amended to eliviate this confusion. Instead of saying stuff is protected if it would be
protected with an attorney, the statute should outline what is protected (normally you wouldn t want to
list everything out not economical but since courts have stripped scope down so much, it s easier to
just be clear about the few things that actually are privileged [litigation prep]. Fourth, use of the vague
phrase tax advice , coupled with the lack of any statutory definition of such phrase leads to disputes
between parties as to what constitutes tax advice. Case law is replete with examples of parties
claiming communications contained tax advice merely because tax issues were discussed. If courts
have interpreted tax advice to be a narrow definition, the statute should be amended to avoid further

Throughout the early to mid start of the twenty first century Latin America had experienced what was
believed to be its largest boom in terms of economic growth. Forecasters were mainly looking at the
nation of Brasil to demonstrate this boom through the leadership of then president Luiz Inácio Lula da
Silva. Brasil was predicted to be one of the global leaders in terms of developing nations in the
modern era. In fact it was the only Latin American country inducted into the BRICS ( Brasil, Russia,
India, China, South Africa) movement. However one issue arose to the nation of Brasil and other Latin
American countries that would haunt them in the future. The artificial rise in the prices of

Sudanese Government And State Sponsored Militia Carried...
Darfur is located in the western region of Sudan, adjacent to Chad and Central Africa. In early 2004,
the Sudanese government and state sponsored militia carried out the Darfur genocide. The targets of
the genocide were black African tribes. The genocide in Darfur has claimed approximately 300,000
lives and displaced over 3 million people. In response to these mass atrocities the international
community took action, but many were dissatisfied with what seemed to be a lack of effort. Of the
groups taking action, those in the forefront were the United Nations (UN), African Union (AU), and
the United States (U.S). One of the first international actions taken in response to Darfur was by U.N
representative Mukesh Kapila. Unhappy with the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The war in Darfur materialized at the wrong time for the United States, Norway, and Britain, two of
which are permanent members of the U.N. Security Council. At the time, they were focused on
ensuring the success of the Naivasha negotiations in Sudan. The Naivasha agreement, also known as
the Comprehensive Peace Agreement was an permanent ceasefire agreement between the Government
of Sudan and the Sudan People s Liberation Movement/ Sudan People s Liberation Army to end the
Second Sudanese Civil War. This was long time coming because the conflict had started all the way
back in 1983. The Security Council used the Brahimi principal, which states regional organizations
take primary responsibility for the problems in their backyard to push responsibility on to the A.U.
The Brahimi principle The Security Council was glad to give someone else the responsibility of
Darfur so they could focus on others tasks at hand. Sudanese President al Bashir agreed to allow the
A.U. to deploy a mission (AMIS) to monitor a ceasefire agreement signed on 8 April 2004, a mission
endorsed by United Nations Security Counci Resolution 1556. The A.U. initially deployed 150 troops
in August 2004 but had increased that number to 7,700 troops by April 2005. African leaders resisted
efforts to widen the intervention to non African countries. These voices included South African
President Thabo Mbeki, who stated we have not asked for anybody outside of the African

Liberal Democracy versus Totalitarianism
Who controls the past, controls the future; who controls the present, controls the past is the slogan of
the Party in Orwell s Nineteen Eighty Four (1949). In other words, in totalitarian society, the
government controls the past and the future by controlling the present; force the society and disrespect
the individual rights are the main power of the government. There was some examples of the
totalitarian societies. However, there was more examples of the liberal and liberal democratic
societies. In the present time, in the world dominate liberal democracy over the totalitarianism. Liberal

Antigone as a Tragic Hero Essay
Antigone as a tragic hero The debate over who is the tragic hero in Antigone is unanswered. The belief
that Antigone is the hero is a tough one. Antigone is widely thought of as the tragic hero of the play
bearing her name. She would seem to fit the part in light of the fact that she dies for doing what she
believes is right. She buries her brother without worrying what might happen to her. Unlike Antigone,
Ismene says And break the law, our death will be more shameful even then theirs (pg.5 line 60). In
Sophocle s Antigone, the characters show a variety of traits. However, Antigone s life of aspiration,
family of noble rank, and display of good mentality portray her as the tragic hero of the story. A tragic
hero has haughty, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Antigone fulfills all three traits thoroughly in the story of Antigone. A tragic flaw plays a very
imperative part of a tragic hero. Tragic flaw simply means a character weakness. The most common
types of tragic flaws are unwarranted pride, ambition, and jealousy. Those who do believe that
Antigone was meant to be the true tragic hero argue against others who believe that Creon deserves
that honor. They say that the Gods were against Creon, and that he did not truly love his country. His
patriotism is to narrow and negative and his conception of justice is too exclusive... to be dignified by
the name of love for the state . These arguments, and many others, make many people believe the
Antigone is the rightful protagonist. Antigone tries to help her brother without worrying about what
will happen to her. She says, I intend to give my brother burial. I ll be glad to die in the attempt, if it s
a crime, then it s a crime that God commands (she says in a different translation). Antigone says He
has no right to keep me from my own (pg.4 line 48). She was also punished for doing what was right.
Her epiphany came, hidden from the audience, before she hung herself. Creon, understanding his
ignorance may lead one to believe that he is the true protagonist. But, if you define the word
protagonist you would find that a protagonist is one who is a leader or supporter of a cause. Antigone
is in support of her own actions in the burial of her brother

Curley s Wife In Of Mice And Men
Imagine yourself being someone who loves to communicate, express feelings, talk about issues with
your friends, but can t. You can t because you re the only girl working on a ranch in the late 30 s trying
really hard to get a little bit of money to have a better life. You have a husband but he s got plenty of
friends because there s more men to communicate with. Curley s wife has the exact same problems.
Her loneliest ended up taking her life though. She s lonelier than Crooks the black man who lives by
himself in the barn. He has at least friends to talk to. Which is why I believe that Curley s wife is the
loneliest character and not Crooks because she suffers from every single one of those problems as
listed in the beginning. Curley s wife ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Curley s wife came around the end of the last stall. She came very quietly, so that Lennie didn t see
her. She wore her bright cotton dress and the mules with the red ostrich feathers. Her face was made
up and the little sausage curls were all in place. She was quite near to him before Lennie looked up
and saw her. My other point is that Lennie came to crooks to talk but Crooks didn t want him there.
On page 68 is when Lennie at firsts enters his room and gets scolded. Crooks said sharply, You got no
right to come in my room. This here s my room. Nobody get any right in here but me. This is how
badly Crooks didn t want lennie in there and how badly he wanted to be alone. It is true that she
married Curley to be able to talk to someone and have someone there to talk to. However, Curley
takes all of his time with work and his friends. Obviously they all have work to do. I believe that
Curley has extra work because his dad is the land owner. Spending too much time with his friends and
making bets with them is also time consuming. As seen on the bottom of page 86 it explains All the

Common Forms Of Low Rise Construction Used For Domestic...
P1 Understand common forms of low rise construction used for domestic and commercial properties
Steel frame:
Steel frame structures are made as the name suggest from steel, the material is strong and flexible.
When weight is added it bends without cracking. Another characteristic of steel is that its plasticity or
ductility, meaning that when force is added it won t crack however it will lose shape therefore giving
warning for people to evacuate the building. A disadvantage of steel is that is loses strength when
subject to fire. Studies have shown that it can loose up to half its strength when subject to fire,
therefore making it imperative to cover the steel with boards or spray on.
Steel construction is used in
High rise building because of its strength, light weight and the speed in which it can be constructed.
Industrial buildings and warehouse buildings because of the ability to create large span spaces at a low
cost
Temporary structure as its quick to set up and remove.
Steel fabrication: this is when steel is cut to the desire length generally on site and then weld them
together to create the final building. This is generally labor intensive however it can reduce time.
Bolted steel construction: this is when the main bulk of the construction is pre made at the workshop
then bolted into place on site. This tends to be the preferred methods as it saves time and money as
well having the right working conditions.
Advantages of steel structures

Homelessness And The Homeless
As the growth of Political values increases, followers of politics, see one major conflict rise,
Homelessness. In 2013 it was estimated that 1 out of every 30 children were homeless. As this issue
grows some people think the only way to fix homelessness, is by making it illegal. But criminalizing
homelessness will have many negative effects, it will hurt the chances of the homeless getting jobs
and getting off the streets, volunteer groups are creating projects to help create housing for the
homeless, and the homeless are already treated poorly, and looked down upon by society. When
applying for a job, the employer runs a background check to see what type of person the candidate is,
where he or she came from, and if they are qualified for the job. If the employer sees a past of bad
decisions, or a criminal records, it is an immediate red flag. Some governments, are arresting homeless
citizens that are setting up cardboard shanties , which are referred to as a shanty town or squatter area

Landings Were Been Around Since The Revolutionary War
Amphibious landings have been around since the Revolutionary War. The main purpose has always
been for landings; in order, to position soldiers for an assault on a city. Amphibious assaults, however,
have never actually been executed until World War 1. During that time a need for a thorough
amphibious assault doctrine was not needed because amphibious landings were not carried out to
assault the enemy on the beachhead, and landings were usually met with little resistance. One of the
first and foremost amphibious assaults occurred during World War 1. This amphibious operation is
known as the Battle of Gallipoli, which ended as a major failure for the Australian and New Zealand
Coalition forces, or ANZAC forces. The Battle of Gallipoli ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The ANZAC had to control the Dardanelles by capturing the Gallipoli peninsula from Turkey, in order
to capture Constantinople and control the Strait of Bosporus. 2 However, the amphibious assault on
Gallipoli was a major disaster for the ANZAC and its allied forces. Many mistakes were made because
the ANZAC did not plan the amphibious assault well. The first mistake that was made was that the
ANZAC landing forces landed one mile north of the landing site. 3 This was a problem because the
landing force would have to change their course of direction, in order to get to the correct landing site,
which would waste precious time. This was also a problem because the direction they were going to
land at was an area with open cliffs rather than the open beach and countryside that was intended.
Further, the ANZAC forces did not adequately plan, how efficiently they were too move off the
beachhead, which poised as a potential kill zone. The initial problem was that getting out of the
landing crafts was problematic.4 The terrain under the shore posed a problem for many soldiers
getting off the beaches because it slowed them down. Many ANZAC soldiers drowned or died
disembarking their landing crafts. The ANZAC troops crowded the beaches, once they landed. The
ANZAC soldiers could not exit the beaches because not only were the beaches chaotic with the
amassed troops but also the maps that the ANZAC soldiers were outdated and were utterly useless. In

Adolf Hitler s Use Of Propaganda
Propaganda tries to force a doctrine on the whole people... Propaganda works on the general public
from the standpoint of an idea and makes them ripe for the victory of this idea. Adolf Hitler wrote
these words in his book Mein Kampf (1926), in which he first advocated the use of propaganda to
spread the ideals of National Socialism among them racism, antisemitism, and anti Bolshevism.
Following the Nazi seizure of power in 1933, Hitler established a Reich Ministry of Public
Enlightenment and Propaganda headed by Joseph Goebbels. The Ministry s aim was to ensure that the
Nazi message was successfully communicated through art, music, theater, films, books, radio,
educational materials, and the press. There were several audiences for Nazi ... Show more content on

The SS and police had established Theresienstadt in November 1941 as an instrument of propaganda
for domestic consumption in the German Reich. The camp ghetto was used as an explanation for
Germans who were puzzled by the deportation of German and Austrian Jews who were elderly,
disabled war veterans, or locally known artists and musicians to the East for labor. In preparation for
the 1944 visit, the ghetto underwent a beautification program. In the wake of the inspection, SS
officials in the Protectorate produced a film using ghetto residents as a demonstration of the
benevolent treatment the Jewish residents of Theresienstadt supposedly enjoyed. When the film was
completed, SS officials deported most of the cast to the Auschwitz Birkenau killing center. The Nazi
regime used propaganda effectively to mobilize the German population to support its wars of conquest
until the very end of the regime. Nazi propaganda was likewise essential to motivating those who
implemented the mass murder of the European Jews and of other victims of the Nazi regime. It also
served to secure the acquiescence of millions of others as bystanders to racially targeted persecution

Cons And Disadvantages Of Social Media
Social Media Social media are technologies or networks that allow people, nowadays, to share
informations and connect with each other. There are different types of social media, but the most used
are Facebook, YouTube, Gmail, Yahoo, Twitter, WhatsApp, etc. With the advancement in technology,
today these social media are an everyday part of life in most part of the world. They are used for
different reason and the outcome is always different. Because everything has both advantages and
disadvantages or inconveniences, social media too affect the user in both positives and negatives
ways. Like it is stated above, social media can be used for communication. The new technologies have
made it easier to connect the world in just a glimpse. With a network like WhatsApp or Facebook, a
person here in the United States is able to talk and see at the same time his friends and family
members who are in different part of the world. Social media are another way to make friends too. For
instance, if a person is too shy or just too quiet to speak, social media can help that person have
friends and communicate with them. In other words, technology and social media work together to
link the world. Other than connecting people, social media can also be used for advertising. Today,
about all businesses market their products through advertisements. If not for the advertisements,
nearly every businesses would not be able to sell their latest products. People learn about their country
or other countries in the world through news, which are given through social media like YouTube
channel. They also can learn about new products or weather conditions in their areas; they are able
now to learn about everything that is happening either where they live or in other places. Social media
are sources of publicity of new products; they help people stay informed about everything. Just as they
have advantages, social media also have disadvantages such as being addictive. They evolves together
with new technologies and renders people, especially young people, lazy and sometimes lonely. Dr.

Hispaniola And La Espanola, By Christopher Columbus Essay
Hispaniola or la Espanola, named by Christopher Columbus after his landing in 1492, is one of the
largest island lying in the Caribbean Sea. The island is divided politically into the Dominican Republic
and Haiti. One island, barely a barrier and yet, two completely different cultures and two completely
different nations. The island was divided as a result of colonization. While the French colonized the
west part of the island, what is today known as Haiti, and the Spanish colonized the east part of the
island and what is today known as the Dominican Republic. As a result of those two different
colonizations by two completely different nations with different cultures, Haiti and the Dominican
Republic became two nations. However, for two nations on the same island with similar ancestry and
a similar history, the Dominican Republic and Haiti are in a position where they could help each other
if they were ever a time help was needed. That is not the case. After colonization and they fought for
their freedoms, the history between the two nations turned bitter. Therefore, the political relationship
between Haiti and the Dominican Republic is a tense affair between two embittered nations occupying
one island. As it is, the Dominican Republic became independent in 1844, forty years after Haiti.
Unlike Haiti, the Dominican Republic was colonized by the Spaniards. Given the fact that Haiti
gained its independence before the Dominican Republic, most of the nation wanted to stay as

My Last Rodeo
Last Rodeo
When I tell people I ve competed in rodeos, everyone always seems to think of a rodeo with cows and
horses. However, when I talk about rodeos I actually mean Lineman Rodeos. Some people have asked
me if it has something to do with lineman that play football. Then I have to explain to them that a
Lineman is a person that works on the power lines, the overhead or underground lines that supply
electricity to homes and businesses then most people understand what kind of Lineman I am. A
Lineman Rodeo is a competition that consist of five different events on the top of a 40 foot wood pole
ranging from a hurt man rescue, to events that pertain to doing power line work and the best of all, the
egg climb, which is a speed climb from the bottom ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Seeing which poles are warped, which poles might have knots or long splits in them, which are the
poles that I don t want to climb. While walking around I can smell the chemicals in the air that are
used to treat the new rodeo poles. The chemical is a distinct smell that all rodeos have in the air. My
first event of the morning was the hurt man rescue. For this event, the time starts when I first touch my
climbing gear and time ends when the 185 lbs. manikin touches the ground. The time limit for this
event was four minutes which I completed it in one minute and ten seconds with no deductions for
safety violations. After the completion of my first event I was feeling good about the day. From there,
my second and third events went really well, good times with no deductions. My fourth event was a
knot tying event. I did exceptionally well in that event, beating my other competitors by two minutes
or so. My last event was a streetlight and photo cell change out. I was a little nervous and the pressure
was on because I knew that I had done good all day and had a good possibility to place in the
competition and get on stage for a trophy; which would be an amazing experience for my last rodeo as
an apprentice. On this event I had to score a 100 with a good time to place in the competition, and I

Arendt s Rhetorical Analysis
Despite his notoriously confusing rhetoric, German thinker Georg Hegel s philosophical theories are
seductive. Even those thinkers who claim to reject Hegel s ideas, such as Friedrich Nietzsche, end up
utilizing some of his most fundamental tenets. Given the pervasiveness of Hegel, it is rare for a thinker
to veer successfully from his arguments. This paper seeks to argue that there is one such thinker who
does so most compellingly: Hannah Arendt. Although Arendt claims to draw from Hegel, and many of
her ideas can in fact be called Hegelian, her concept of alienation is, upon close examination,
distinctly different from Hegel s. Whereas Hegel posits that alienation is a default natural state of all
subjects, Arendt flips this narrative, arguing that alienation is in fact imposed upon the subject.
Moreover, it does not lie at the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
After understanding Arendt s modification of Hegelian alienation, one can view the phenomenon of
alienation as such through the works of thinkers such as Simone de Beauvoir and Václav Havel. More
specifically, Beauvoir s discussion of the Self and Other, and Havel s work on the concept of ideology,
can be connected to Arendt s concept of alienation. In order to comprehend Hegel s concept of
alienation, one must first understand his discussion of the system and dialectics in his book
Phenomenology of Spirit. While he does not explicitly define the term system, through illustrating the
complicated structure of a flower, Hegel implies that a system is the whole that results from the build
up of constituent parts. Hegel furthermore debunks the notion that philosophical systems can be only

Essay on What Classifies as Common Knowledge in Science...
Knowledge goes beyond the regurgitation or memorization of facts, and knowledge claims can either
be justified with experience or simply an understanding. Different areas of knowledge have different
methods to either build or falsify knowledge, as the method of justification differs between these areas
of knowledge. There are perspectives to support building facts around knowledge, while disagreeing
with the neglect of facts that were previously held as knowledge. These perspectives collectively
create opposition for the areas of knowledge, science and history. Both science and history are subject
to changes in knowledge for facts may sometimes be discarded, built upon, or distorted to prove an
opinion or theory. This does not necessarily ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Science has set values that must be upheld in the process of developing knowledge and as long as
these values are maintained the facts will be accepted as knowledge.
In my life as a student, I encounter countless natural science theories that failed the test of time and
have either been improved or refuted. The most well known example of this is the atomic structure in
Chemistry. John Dalton developed the first atomic theory and postulated that all matter was composed
of atoms. He unfortunately believed that atoms of the same element were of all the same mass and
charge, which was later tested and disproved by the scientist Ernest Rutherford to later be built on by
Neils Bohr. These experiments have proven that due to conclusive evidence and constant criticism,
scientific principles are subject to change and may be discarded. In this case, depending on your
perception, John Dalton s theories may have been unnecessary or may continue coexist with those of
Bohr and Rutherford as he is known as the founding father of atomic structure. Learning about the
constant revision of scientific theories promotes open mindedness towards science and constant
inquiry. Using the scientific method, science is able to answer the question why, and with this explain
the nature of things, which creates much opposition with different ideologies. In the constant quest for
the truth, science is justified in redefining its pillars, which in this case is knowledge because

The Encoding of Contextual Fear Conditioning
The formation of new memories requires protein synthesis dependent changes in synaptic structure
and plasticity in the hippocampus. Studies in humans and animals suggest that these memories are
initially stored in hippocampus but later transferred to cortex for permanent storage. This phenomenon
is described as systems consolidation of memories. While the specific role for new protein synthesis in
hippocampus in early encoding of memories is established, whether protein synthesis in medial
prefrontal cortex play a major role in encoding of memories is unclear. To address this question, we
used contextual fear conditioning (CFC) of mouse, a behavior training that induce long lasting
memories. A single training session produces robust lifelong memory (8) that can be measured using
automated procedures (9). Several studies have used CFC training as a model to study hippocampal
cortical communications and mechanisms underlying systems consolidation of memories. Contextual
fear memories are initially stored in hippocampus and then moved to medial prefrontal cortex (mPFC)
for long term storage.
We assume that if encoding of contextual fear memories require protein synthesis at both
hippocampus and PFC, we will be able to identify translationally active mRNAs in hippocampus and
PFC. Because RNAs associated with polyribosomes indicate translational activation, we first isolated
polyribosomes from mPFC and hippocampus at two time points (one hour and six hours, hereafter T1
and T2

The film The Pursuit of Happyness is a biography based on the life of Chris Gardner, who is played by
the actor Will Smith. Will Smith portrays a hardworking father who is struggling to sale bone density

is left to raise his 5 year old son Christopher alone. Making it clear to those around him, it is obvious
that he is among the working poor class and cannot meet the basic human needs (absolute), he can
barely pay bills to keep his home, can hardly provide food, and has a rough time being able to keep his

importance of how tough the process would be in order to work for his company, even if someone got
a perfect score on the exam their chances of being hired was still very slim. Chris exceeds those
expectations and is later given the job. The film The Pursuit of Happyness told a story of a true
American Hero. Chris Gardner should be an inspiration to those who have been faced with the same
situations. All those sleepless nights trying to think of ways to make money, then moving from one
homeless shelter to the next, and having to face his son everyday hoping that one day he would

that is based off power and greed. Chris Gardner was an underrated African American who lived an

  • 2. Environmental Degradation And Its Effects On Our Environment We, as humans, have always had a prevalent impact on our environment and our world as a whole. Not only has our societal presence caused negative global impact, but our expedited population growth has also had an extreme physical impact on earth. An example of the effects of our extensiveness is, ...86% of the world s resources are consumed by only the wealthiest one fifth of humanity... (globalissues.org). this means that 4/5ths of the planet already has limited access to resources that are naturally found on earth. In addition to our excessive consumption of the earth natural resources, environmental degradation is the result of extreme pollution and wastes that have made their way into our atmosphere. Because of our severe impact on nature, it is crucial that we stop the accelerated deterioration of our environment by decreasing our misuse of earth s natural resources, reducing the use of unnecessary technology in our environment and practicing more ecologically responsible lifestyles. This can help protect the environment and sustain its natural resources for current and future generations (thrall.org). The earth s immense population is one of the biggest factors for environmental degradation. In the reading Easter s End by Jared Diamond, he discussed the extinction of the Polynesian people of Easter Island. One of the biggest reasons why they went extinct was because they wiped out their only forest, ran out of life sustaining soil and turned to cannibalism. This ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Passionate Shepherd Of His Love By Christopher Marlowe Since the beginning of humankind, people have sought partners to share their lives with. Adam himself being lonely and destitute was paired with Eve to share in all life s joys and tribulations. Many would agree that life is best spent in the company of another and without companionship, our existence would be dull and wearisome. The Passionate Shepherd to His Love by Christopher Marlowe is a pastoral poem published in 1599 where a man attempts to find companionship because he is lonely. Marlowe creates a majestic rural world encompassed by natural beauty in which the Shepherd attempts to court a presumably young woman. The Nymph s reply to the Shepherd by Sir Walter Raleigh was written in response to The Passionate Shepherd to His Love in 1600, one year after its publication. This Story takes place in the same area as the previous poem but is now narrated by the Shepherds love interest rather than the Shepherd himself. With both poems having different speakers insight is gained into the thought process of both the Nymph and the Sheppard. Using this information it can be ascertained that the Nymph and the Shappard are incompatible because they have different viewpoints on love and its obtainment. The Shepherd does not offer acceptable terms to the Nymph, his principles are inconsistent with her own, and he is a romantic while she is a realist. One desires the life of those in the garden of Eden while the other denies its existence. Marlow opens The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Iroquois Confederacy IROQUOIS CONFEDERACY by Loretta Hall OVERVIEW The Iroquois Confederacy, an association of six linguistically related tribes in the northeastern woodlands, was a sophisticated society of some 5,500 people when the first white explorers encountered it at the beginning of the seventeenth century. The 1990 Census counted 49,038 Iroquois living in the United States, making them the country s eighth most populous Native American group. Although Iroquoian tribes own seven reservations in New York state and one in Wisconsin, the majority of the people live off the reservations. During that period, the Iroquois began to acquire European trade goods through raids on other Indian tribes. They found the metal axes, knives, hoes, and kettles far superior to their implements of stone, bone, shell, and wood. Woven cloth began to replace the animal skins usually used for clothing materials. The recurring raids prompted the French to help their Indian allies attack the Iroquois in 1609, opening a new technological era for the people of the Confederacy. French body armor was made of metal, whereas that of the Iroquois was made of slatted wood. Furthermore, the French fought with firearms, while traditional Iroquois weapons were bows and arrows, stone tomahawks, and wooden warclubs. In response to European influence, the Iroquois gradually changed their military tactics to incorporate stealth, surprise, and ambush. Their motives for fighting also changed. In the past, they had fought for prestige or revenge, or to obtain goods or captives; now they fought for economic advantage, seeking control over bountiful beaver hunting grounds or perhaps a stash of beaver skins to trade for European goods. Although it provided the Indians with better tools, European incursion into the territory was disastrous for the indigenous people. In the 1690s alone, the Iroquois lost between 1,600 and 2,000 people in fighting with other Indian tribes. In addition, European diseases such as smallpox, measles, influenza, lung infections, ... He is also the only democratic president between 1897 to 1933. He was known to be progressive. During his first term, the Federal Reserve Act, Clayton Antitrust Act and Federal Farm Loan Act was passed. The Federal Reserve Act created the Federal Reserve System. The system can issue the US dollar. Clayton Antitrust Act is an antitrust law. It protected the customers from the monopoly of the business. It tried to stop the price discrimination and thus stop the monopoly of the business. It took control of the mergers and acquisitions. Federal Farm Loan Act increased the credit for the farmers. Farmers were able to borrow money more easily with a bigger amount. The rate of interest is lower so the farmers could repay the loan easier. • 6. The Dead By James Joyce Meaning After reading The Dead by James Joyce, I came to the conclusion that the title of the short story has a very deep meaning, both literally and figuratively. The reason for which I believe the title has a literal meaning is that the author briefly mentions about some secondary characters, who in one way or another, are part of the story but are no longer alive. Some of these characters are the following: Pat Morkan (Brother of Kate and Julia), Ellen Morkan Conroy (Mother of Gabriel), T.J Conroy (Member of the Dublin Port and Docks Board, and Father of Gabriel), Patrick Morkan (Owner of a starch mill, and Father of Kate and Julia), and, especially, Michael Furey (Gretta s first lover who died for the love of her). • 7. Essay on The Most Effective Absolute Rulers The Most Effective Absolute Rulers During the late 1400s and 1500s, many rulers took great measures to centralize political power and place it in their own hands. This lead to the occurrence of absolute monarchies, some of which I thought were overall very effective. In absolute monarchies, theoretically the monarch is all powerful, with no legal limitations to his or her authority. Absolutism in Europe was characteristically justified by the doctrine of divine right, according to which the monarch reigns all powerfully by the will of God. The intention of absolute monarchs is to utilize his or her power in an effective, better organized way, despite its weaknesses or negative consequences; and from my perspective, I would have to say ... I personally think that the life of Louis XIV had its many ups and downs, but over all he was a very good man and effective ruler. If it were not for Louis XIV, France would be a very different place today. I m surprised he is responsible for many elegant buildings in France and especially Paris. Despite all the wrong things he did that hurt his nation, I think it could have probably gotten worse if he had not come along. Even today it interests me that Louis s armies, that were opposed by an alliance of the European powers, lost most of their major battles, but won control of Spain. For my part, Frederick the Great – a great general as well as a skilled absolute monarch – was one of the most effective absolute monarchs of his time. I think he was an effective absolute monarch because of his contribution to the small but militarily powerful German state of Prussia in becoming an absolute monarchy. The rise of Prussia between 1600s and 1700s occurred as a result of a combination of military, political, and social factors lead by Frederick s contribution. I chose Frederick II as a great effective absolute monarch based on his actions that affected his people. He did many great things for the significance of his absolute monarchy. • 8. Causes Of War Of 1812 On July 18, 1812, the United States declared war on Britain which resulted in the beginning of The War of 1812. The War of 1812 was a military conflict between the United States and Great Britain. The war lasted from 1812 to 1814. The War started when the colony of Great Britain and Canada, was invaded by the Americans. The war was fought in Upper Canada, Lower Canada, on the Great Lakes, the Atlantic, and in the United States. The War of 1812 was a big dispute between the United States and the British Empire. The British limited the American trade system because they were afraid it would be damaging to their war with France. They also wanted to arrange for an Indian state in the Midwest. They wanted to do this to maintain their influence in the region. That s why 10,000 Native Americans fought for the British in the war of 1812. Because Canada was a British colony at this time, Canadians were considered as British allies. Americans just wanted to prove their independence from the British Empire once and for all. As you can see there were multiple causes of the War of 1812. One main cause was because Great Britain had full power over most of Canada and Americans wanted them to leave so they could expand the United States. Another cause would be because the trade ban by Britain and France proceeded in the capturing of American ships. Lastly, because, Great Britain had begun to stop American ships and forced the people on the ships to join the British Navy. The United ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 10. Tax Advice Privilege Case Study I. Identified Issues Several problems have resulted from the current interpretation of §7525. First, the fact that there are many/more cases where assertion of the tax advice privilege is denied shows that it is not understood (obviously, it can be a litigation/stalling technique, but misinformation/misunderstanding can be a big part of it too). Second, uniform adoption/recognition of the proper name of the privilege can help dispel incorrect assumptions or inferences/impressions. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The statute says that anything with a CPA is privileged if same stuff is privileged if with an attorney. But courts have shown that this is not the case. Unlike attorney work product, accountant work product is not privileged. Some communications that otherwise may be privileged are not because they are included in mixed/dual purpose communications/documents. The language of the statute could be amended to eliviate this confusion. Instead of saying stuff is protected if it would be protected with an attorney, the statute should outline what is protected (normally you wouldn t want to list everything out not economical but since courts have stripped scope down so much, it s easier to just be clear about the few things that actually are privileged [litigation prep]. Fourth, use of the vague phrase tax advice , coupled with the lack of any statutory definition of such phrase leads to disputes between parties as to what constitutes tax advice. Case law is replete with examples of parties claiming communications contained tax advice merely because tax issues were discussed. If courts have interpreted tax advice to be a narrow definition, the statute should be amended to avoid further ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 14. Antigone as a Tragic Hero Essay Antigone as a tragic hero The debate over who is the tragic hero in Antigone is unanswered. The belief that Antigone is the hero is a tough one. Antigone is widely thought of as the tragic hero of the play bearing her name. She would seem to fit the part in light of the fact that she dies for doing what she believes is right. She buries her brother without worrying what might happen to her. Unlike Antigone, Ismene says And break the law, our death will be more shameful even then theirs (pg.5 line 60). In Sophocle s Antigone, the characters show a variety of traits. However, Antigone s life of aspiration, family of noble rank, and display of good mentality portray her as the tragic hero of the story. A tragic hero has haughty, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Antigone fulfills all three traits thoroughly in the story of Antigone. A tragic flaw plays a very imperative part of a tragic hero. Tragic flaw simply means a character weakness. The most common types of tragic flaws are unwarranted pride, ambition, and jealousy. Those who do believe that Antigone was meant to be the true tragic hero argue against others who believe that Creon deserves that honor. They say that the Gods were against Creon, and that he did not truly love his country. His patriotism is to narrow and negative and his conception of justice is too exclusive... to be dignified by the name of love for the state . These arguments, and many others, make many people believe the Antigone is the rightful protagonist. Antigone tries to help her brother without worrying about what will happen to her. She says, I intend to give my brother burial. I ll be glad to die in the attempt, if it s a crime, then it s a crime that God commands (she says in a different translation). Antigone says He has no right to keep me from my own (pg.4 line 48). She was also punished for doing what was right. Her epiphany came, hidden from the audience, before she hung herself. Creon, understanding his ignorance may lead one to believe that he is the true protagonist. But, if you define the word protagonist you would find that a protagonist is one who is a leader or supporter of a cause. Antigone is in support of her own actions in the burial of her brother ... P1 Understand common forms of low rise construction used for domestic and commercial properties Steel frame: Steel frame structures are made as the name suggest from steel, the material is strong and flexible. When weight is added it bends without cracking. Another characteristic of steel is that its plasticity or ductility, meaning that when force is added it won t crack however it will lose shape therefore giving warning for people to evacuate the building. A disadvantage of steel is that is loses strength when subject to fire. Studies have shown that it can loose up to half its strength when subject to fire, therefore making it imperative to cover the steel with boards or spray on. But criminalizing homelessness will have many negative effects, it will hurt the chances of the homeless getting jobs and getting off the streets, volunteer groups are creating projects to help create housing for the homeless, and the homeless are already treated poorly, and looked down upon by society. • 20. Landings Were Been Around Since The Revolutionary War Amphibious landings have been around since the Revolutionary War. The main purpose has always been for landings; in order, to position soldiers for an assault on a city. Amphibious assaults, however, have never actually been executed until World War 1. During that time a need for a thorough amphibious assault doctrine was not needed because amphibious landings were not carried out to assault the enemy on the beachhead, and landings were usually met with little resistance. One of the first and foremost amphibious assaults occurred during World War 1. This amphibious operation is known as the Battle of Gallipoli, which ended as a major failure for the Australian and New Zealand Coalition forces, or ANZAC forces. The Battle of Gallipoli ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The ANZAC had to control the Dardanelles by capturing the Gallipoli peninsula from Turkey, in order to capture Constantinople and control the Strait of Bosporus. 2 However, the amphibious assault on Gallipoli was a major disaster for the ANZAC and its allied forces. Many mistakes were made because the ANZAC did not plan the amphibious assault well. The first mistake that was made was that the ANZAC landing forces landed one mile north of the landing site. 3 This was a problem because the landing force would have to change their course of direction, in order to get to the correct landing site, which would waste precious time. This was also a problem because the direction they were going to land at was an area with open cliffs rather than the open beach and countryside that was intended. Further, the ANZAC forces did not adequately plan, how efficiently they were too move off the beachhead, which poised as a potential kill zone. The initial problem was that getting out of the landing crafts was problematic.4 The terrain under the shore posed a problem for many soldiers getting off the beaches because it slowed them down. Many ANZAC soldiers drowned or died disembarking their landing crafts. The ANZAC troops crowded the beaches, once they landed. The ANZAC soldiers could not exit the beaches because not only were the beaches chaotic with the amassed troops but also the maps that the ANZAC soldiers were outdated and were utterly useless. The SS and police had established Theresienstadt in November 1941 as an instrument of propaganda for domestic consumption in the German Reich. The camp ghetto was used as an explanation for Germans who were puzzled by the deportation of German and Austrian Jews who were elderly, disabled war veterans, or locally known artists and musicians to the East for labor. In preparation for the 1944 visit, the ghetto underwent a beautification program. In the wake of the inspection, SS officials in the Protectorate produced a film using ghetto residents as a demonstration of the benevolent treatment the Jewish residents of Theresienstadt supposedly enjoyed. When the film was completed, SS officials deported most of the cast to the Auschwitz Birkenau killing center. The Nazi regime used propaganda effectively to mobilize the German population to support its wars of conquest until the very end of the regime. The island is divided politically into the Dominican Republic and Haiti. One island, barely a barrier and yet, two completely different cultures and two completely different nations. The island was divided as a result of colonization. While the French colonized the west part of the island, what is today known as Haiti, and the Spanish colonized the east part of the island and what is today known as the Dominican Republic. As a result of those two different colonizations by two completely different nations with different cultures, Haiti and the Dominican Republic became two nations. However, for two nations on the same island with similar ancestry and a similar history, the Dominican Republic and Haiti are in a position where they could help each other if they were ever a time help was needed. That is not the case. After colonization and they fought for their freedoms, the history between the two nations turned bitter. Therefore, the political relationship between Haiti and the Dominican Republic is a tense affair between two embittered nations occupying one island. • 29. Arendt s Rhetorical Analysis Despite his notoriously confusing rhetoric, German thinker Georg Hegel s philosophical theories are seductive. Even those thinkers who claim to reject Hegel s ideas, such as Friedrich Nietzsche, end up utilizing some of his most fundamental tenets. Given the pervasiveness of Hegel, it is rare for a thinker to veer successfully from his arguments. This paper seeks to argue that there is one such thinker who does so most compellingly: Hannah Arendt. Although Arendt claims to draw from Hegel, and many of her ideas can in fact be called Hegelian, her concept of alienation is, upon close examination, distinctly different from Hegel s. Whereas Hegel posits that alienation is a default natural state of all subjects, Arendt flips this narrative, arguing that alienation is in fact imposed upon the subject. Moreover, it does not lie at the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... After understanding Arendt s modification of Hegelian alienation, one can view the phenomenon of alienation as such through the works of thinkers such as Simone de Beauvoir and Václav Havel. More specifically, Beauvoir s discussion of the Self and Other, and Havel s work on the concept of ideology, can be connected to Arendt s concept of alienation. In order to comprehend Hegel s concept of alienation, one must first understand his discussion of the system and dialectics in his book Phenomenology of Spirit. While he does not explicitly define the term system, through illustrating the complicated structure of a flower, Hegel implies that a system is the whole that results from the build up of constituent parts. Hegel furthermore debunks the notion that philosophical systems can be only accepted or ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Knowledge goes beyond the regurgitation or memorization of facts, and knowledge claims can either be justified with experience or simply an understanding. Different areas of knowledge have different methods to either build or falsify knowledge, as the method of justification differs between these areas of knowledge. There are perspectives to support building facts around knowledge, while disagreeing with the neglect of facts that were previously held as knowledge. These perspectives collectively create opposition for the areas of knowledge, science and history. Both science and history are subject to changes in knowledge for facts may sometimes be discarded, built upon, or distorted to prove an opinion or theory. This does not necessarily ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Science has set values that must be upheld in the process of developing knowledge and as long as these values are maintained the facts will be accepted as knowledge. In my life as a student, I encounter countless natural science theories that failed the test of time and have either been improved or refuted. The most well known example of this is the atomic structure in Chemistry. John Dalton developed the first atomic theory and postulated that all matter was composed of atoms. He unfortunately believed that atoms of the same element were of all the same mass and charge, which was later tested and disproved by the scientist Ernest Rutherford to later be built on by Neils Bohr. These experiments have proven that due to conclusive evidence and constant criticism, scientific principles are subject to change and may be discarded. In this case, depending on your perception, John Dalton s theories may have been unnecessary or may continue coexist with those of Bohr and Rutherford as he is known as the founding father of atomic structure. Learning about the constant revision of scientific theories promotes open mindedness towards science and constant inquiry. Using the scientific method, science is able to answer the question why, and with this explain the nature of things, which creates much opposition with different ideologies. In the constant quest for the truth, science is justified in redefining its pillars, which in this case is knowledge because ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 31. The Encoding of Contextual Fear Conditioning The formation of new memories requires protein synthesis dependent changes in synaptic structure and plasticity in the hippocampus. Studies in humans and animals suggest that these memories are initially stored in hippocampus but later transferred to cortex for permanent storage. This phenomenon is described as systems consolidation of memories. While the specific role for new protein synthesis in hippocampus in early encoding of memories is established, whether protein synthesis in medial prefrontal cortex play a major role in encoding of memories is unclear. To address this question, we used contextual fear conditioning (CFC) of mouse, a behavior training that induce long lasting memories. A single training session produces robust lifelong memory (8) that can be measured using automated procedures (9). Several studies have used CFC training as a model to study hippocampal cortical communications and mechanisms underlying systems consolidation of memories. Contextual fear memories are initially stored in hippocampus and then moved to medial prefrontal cortex (mPFC) for long term storage. We assume that if encoding of contextual fear memories require protein synthesis at both hippocampus and PFC, we will be able to identify translationally active mRNAs in hippocampus and PFC. Because RNAs associated with polyribosomes indicate translational activation, we first isolated polyribosomes from mPFC and hippocampus at two time points (one hour and six hours, hereafter T1 and T2 ...
