A Spiral Galaxy
NGC 1672, a barred spiral galaxy located in the direction of the southern constellation Dorado lies
more than 60 million light years away. This is a spiral galaxy that s composed of stars in a central bar
shaped design. NGC 1672 is a member of the Seyfert galaxy, which was named after famous
astronomer, Carl Keenan Seyfert, who extensively studied galaxies with active nuclei in the 1940s. In
the middle of NGC 1672 s galaxy, it contains a high surface brightness bar from which four wire like
spiral arms extend outwards. This galaxy s symmetrical look is mainly formed by the four extending
arms of which are bordered with the most spectacular dust lines that extend out from the center.
Unlike the normal galaxies, NGC 1672 s arms do not fully spiral all the way to the center. The arms
are actually connected to both ends of a linear like bar of stars encompassing the nucleus. In fact, the
arms extending from the middle of this galaxy is the main reason I was drawn to this image. The arms
with the beautiful pinkish purple rays look like an Eastern Redbud blossoming in the months of April
May, which have always caught my eye since I was a little kid. Visible from the Southern Hemisphere,
NGC 1672 shows extraordinary regions of star formations. Near the edges of this galaxy s galactic
bar, the greatest clustering of star formations can be found. The picture taken of NGC 1672 above was
photographed with Hubble s Advanced Camera for a survey in August of 2005. This image is

Diane L. Williams
Clatsop Community College The Psychoanalytic Approach And Some of the Influential
People Behind It
There are different theoretical approaches to psychology; behaviorist, humanistic, psychoanalytic, and
biological. I will be discussing the psychoanalytic approach to psychology and some of the pioneers of
this theory.
What is the psychoanalytic approach? Psychoanalysis is a form of psychotherapy that aids an
individual in determining the underlying cause of deep rooted psychological troubles when other
approaches have not been successful in alleviating those troubles. This approach is better suited for
those issues that have been plaguing an ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Freud based his theory of psychoanalysis on unconscious forces, sexual aggressive instincts, and early
childhood experiences as what shapes who we are as adults. Even though his approaches may not be
favored completely today research has shown that the self examination used in his psychoanalytic
process can contribute to one s long term emotional growth (Cherry, K. 2016b). Health professionals
were enlightened by psychoanalysis to the inner workings of the human mind, which were previously
inexplicable (Beystehner, K.M., n.d.). Sigmund Freud s research indicated that our behavior is
influenced by id, ego and superego, or what he termed structure of personality (nthdimension, 2010).
The id is present at birth and is the most basic and primitive part of our personality. Id s drive is
instinctual and can be described as having the life instinct named Eros and the death instinct named
Thanatos. Id is responsible for the basic, instinctual needs of survival like hunger and thirst. Ego is
developed to compromise between the instinctual desire driven Id and the external expectations of
parents and society. Superego is developed when a child is about 5 years old and is the internalization
of the expectations of parents and society that aides them to evaluate their behaviors for what s
acceptable or not acceptable.

New Journalism
Is New Journalism a literary genre? Analyse with reference to the literary techniques used in two
examples of New Journalism.
Word Count 2231
I suppose the most common sense point at which to start is by defining New Journalism, or Literary
Journalism, as Eisenhuth and McDonald (2007, p. 38) say it is called at the upper end of the spectrum.
The Collins Concise Dictionary (1999, p. 995) defines New Journalism as a style of journalism, using
techniques borrowed from fiction to portray a situation of event as vividly as possible.
Wikipedia (2010) defines it as a style of 1960s and 1970s news writing and journalism that used
literary techniques deemed unconventional at the time.
The meaning of New Journalism has evolved ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Interestingly, Capote, along with Mailer and many other authors, never agreed to their style s
comparisons to Wolfe s school of narration. Much to the contrary, many of these writers would deny
that their work was generically relevant to other new Journalists at the time.
In a 1966 Atlantic article, Dan Wakefield said that the non fiction work of Capote elevated reporting to
the level of literature. Although praising the work of Capote, this goes some way in saying that
literature is better than journalism. This is evidence for what Capote said his critics felt: Combining
literature and journalism is little more than a literary solution for fatigued novelists. (Plimpton, 1967,
p. 16)
Newfield (1967, p. 20) said that, This new genre defines itself by claiming many of the techniques that
were once the unchallenged terrain of the novelist: tension, symbol, cadence, irony, prosody,
imagination.
Gay Talese s 1966 article for Esquire magazine, Frank Sinatra Has a Cold, was a very influential piece
of New Journalism that gave a very detailed portrait of Frank Sinatra, without ever having interviewed
him.
Talese undertook huge amounts of research, as did many of the New journalists, including Capote
with In Cold Blood. Unlike Capote, Talese did not invent facts of characters. His article is, therefore,
an example of New Journalism that falls under the category of a journalistic genre, as opposed to a
distinct

Tesco Plc Analysis
1.0 Introduction
In this report I will be providing the UK s largest supermarket, Tesco with advice on their
performance. I have chosen to use two types of analytical models to review the company; I will be
looking at the organisational structure of Tesco, as well as analysing their business and competitive
strategy.
1.1 Company overview
Tesco is the leading food retailer in Britain, they have also focused on building non food sales which
are available in store and online. Tesco is one of the world s largest retailers with approximately 4,331
stores in 14 countries which include Asia, Europe and the United States. (Tesco, 2011). See appendix
1 for a map of the countries Tesco operate in.

Grant (2010) states, For a strategy to be successful, it must be consistent with the firm s external
environment, and with its internal environment its goals and values, resources and capabilities, and
structure and systems. (Grant, 2010, p.13).
Competitive advantage refers to what sets the organisation apart from others and provides it with a
distinctive edge for meeting customers or client needs in the marketplace. (Daft and Marcic, 2011,
p.152) I will use a SWOT analysis to identify Tesco s strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats
so it will be clear what Tesco need to improve so they can go on to making decisions to compete with
their competitors and threats.
The first step to analyse strategy is to perform a SWOT analysis. As Daft and Marcic (2011) believe
Formulating strategy often begins with an assessment of the internal and external factors that will
affect the organisation s competitive situation. (Daft and Marcic, 2011, p.155). So this is where I will
begin the analysis. 3.0 Analysis with application
The reason why I have chosen to analyse Tesco s competitive strategy and organisational structure is
because both area s concentrate on the company s goals. Without these areas being acknowledged
properly and successfully analysed they cannot achieve competitive advantage

The Critical Path of Rock Fest
Project management is one of the key tools that Hard Rock Café uses to plan. Hard Rock s Vice
President, Chris Tomasso states there is no way to keep so many people on the same page. Over
100,000 fans attend the Rock Fest. It is not easy to plan an event like this one within the 9 month time
frame in which Tomasso must use. The challenge is staying on track. This is done by using a MS
project chart. Managers rely on project management techniques and software to maintain schedule and
budget performance.
Before beginning the project management process, you have to identify the most important ... Show

Performance should be monitored. The overall standard by which the project manager will be
evaluated would enable the project to be completed on schedule and within the cost that were outlined
before the project began. I would crash A, P, and Y because it would reduce the completion time just
in case there are any unexpected delays.
Projects are unique because it is a one time operation designed to accomplish a set of objectives in a
limited time frame. They all involve planning, preparation, and coordinating work that is to be done.
Priorities must be set in order for the project to be accomplished. Project management techniques and
software is necessary to maintain a schedule and budget performance. Project Management is the set
of knowledge, skills, and abilities that plan, organize, implement, control, and complete projects given
finite resources of people, equipment, and time.

Authority Control
Authority control is a method of controlling and limiting where the object in the catalogue gets
shelved under, and what terminology can be used to search for said objects. There are two types of
authority control for this database and those are name and subject.
Now, name authority control is generally used for large collections, to narrow a search or when there
are too many subject terms to search by. To use name authority, it identifies the object in the collection
by its title, publisher or even the author(s). Name authority allows them to be able to locate objects
with ease, so that they can spend more time on other things. For example, if there is more than one
object with similar titles or authors.
To use subject authority control for paranormal romance is about using terms such as magicks or
mythology to represent where the objects should be shelved or grouped under. The authority control
allows the objects to be found with ease in different sections for them to locate which subgenre or
subject within paranormal romance that is desired. For example, under the authority control (subject)
the term mythology one would find Demons which can be found in numerous cultures, or Valkyrie
that come from Norse mythology. It is a broad search, with many results because objects can contain
similarities in description or subjects. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Regulation Of Thermal Energy On An Animal Model
INTRODUCTION
Thermal energy is constantly being transferred from matter to the surrounding. The methods by which
heat can be transferred are conduction, convection and radiation. Conduction is the transfer of energy
from one object to another by contact and it will depends on factors such as surface area of the objects
and thermal conductivity, k, is the property that indicates how good conductor of thermal energy is
certain material (2). Convection is the transfer of energy due to a bulk motion of a fluid and can only
be experimenter by liquids or gases (2). Finally, radiation is caused by the thermal motion of charged
particles in matter (2). The current experiment will investigate the differences on the rate of heat
transfer due to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The expected ambient temperature was 5 15 °C during day and 20 30 °C at night. Due to the
transparent colour of the materials allow heat transferred by radiation, it was expected that
temperature inside the house followed ambient temperature. However, acrylic is considered a good
insulator; therefore it will decrease the amount of heat transfer by conduction.
Part B and C: Revised design and rebuilding the house model
The current model house was built for humans, whereby the optimal temperature conditions inside the
structure were aimed to be between 15 35 áµ’C, with an average temperature of 25 áµ’C (room
temperature). Due to results from the first house model showed that the structure could reach
temperatures higher than 50 áµ’C (Figure 1), the aim of the second model house was to moderately
decrease the temperature inside the structure, so it could be suitable for humans.
The materials used for the construction of the structure were white timber for the roof, black timber
for the walls and wool carpet for the floor. Firstly, the roof was the part of the house that has more
contact with sunlight during day and thereby it was the major area of the house that controls heat
transfer. White timber was used to in the sloped and flat roof because its withe colour would reflect
most of heat coming from sunlight (whitebodies are known as good reflectors). Moreover, thermal
conductivity of timber is low (0.14 W/m K), thus it would decrease heat being

Analysis Of 2016 At T
Over the course of 2016 AT T has found itself at the center of many business and news articles.
However, they are not stories of praise or of the bright future that AT T faces but yet stories of concern
and challenges that lie ahead for the large world renowned telecommunication company. Here we will
take a deeper dive into the growing concerns of AT T and form an environmental analysis of the three
most significant factors, in my opinion that AT T is currently or will face in the near future.
One of the biggest concerns for AT T falls into the category of Threat of Substitution and is the same
concern that many other cable companies have and that is the waves and waves of cord cutters that are
consuming TV in a very different manner. We ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
That leaves satellite margins at $42 and pushes DirecTV Now margins to slim, or even negative . The
only positive that AT T can take away from this is that almost every other cable company is facing the
same issues. However, it could prove to be detrimental to one of AT T s competitive advantages,
differentiated services.
Another looming concern posing a threat to AT T ties in with the first concern of AT T s new cable
plan through Direct TV, Direct TV Now and the free streaming feature the service offers. Federal
regulators raised new concerns about AT T Inc. s practice of excluding its new DirecTV Now
streaming service from data charges and, for the first time, lobbed similar questions at Verizon
Communications Inc. . Verizon similarly allows customers to stream NFL games from Twitter or its
go90 app without using data. The agency argues the practice could deter consumers from accessing
mobile video services not affiliated with the carriers, such as those from Netflix Inc. or Hulu, which is
co owned by Walt Disney Co., Comcast Corp., 21st Century Fox and Time Warner Inc. 21st Century
Fox and News Corp, parent company of The Wall Street Journal, share common ownership . Both AT
T and Verizon are insistent that allowing customers to steam content without data usage or charges is
beneficial to customer, but most view this practice as a way to diminish competition in

Stop And Frisk Policies
1. How do you think stop and frisk policies affect the relationship between law enforcement and
minorities in America? When thinking in The Police, as responsible for law and order, people often
expect respect to the standards and protection. But, when law enforcement goes beyond the
boundaries of civil rights and becomes abusive, the relationship between those involved just breaks
out. The main problem of the stop and frisk policies does not seem to be its mystique to prevent the
crime Is its execution. In that order, the statistics cited by the four newspaper articles provided to the

Freedom is defined as the power or right to act, speak, or think as one wants without hindrance or

human rights that all people are entitled to. These are called the Four Freedoms. It is shown in stories,
history, and even current events that not all people have these four freedoms. In order for a person to
be free, they need to be able to speak freely, worship freely, be free from want, and free from fear. The
first of the Four Freedoms is the freedom of speech. In The Censors , by Luisa Valenzuela, the

In a like manner the Council of EU has also labelled itself as a legislative body. Along side with the

Extinction of Dinosaurs due to Asteroid Impact Essay
Extinction of Dinosaurs due to Asteroid Impact
Nobody knows for sure exactly how the dinosaurs became extinct. However scientists have speculated
for decades about possible events that caused the dinosaurs to die out. Possibilities range from
asteroids, to volcanoes, to climate changes. One of the more popular or well known extinction theories
involves the belief that an asteroid struck the Earth, causing devastating effects, and triggering mass
extinctions around the end of the Cretaceous period.
The asteroid impact extinction theory began in 1980 with Luis and Walter Alvarez, a father and son

Gerta Keller, professor of geosciences at Princeton University, has recently conducted research on the
Chicxulub asteroid in which she analyzed new core samples taken from the asteroid site (Botzer
2004). These samples indicate that the impact that occurred at Chicxulub actually predated the mass
extinction of the dinosaurs, which occurred at the Cretaceous Tertiary boundary about sixty five
million years ago. Keller claims that the Chicxulub impact occurred approximately 300,000 years
before the extinction (Keller 2004). Although previous researchers estimated that the Chicxulub
asteroid was the cause of the extinctions, there had always been doubts about the exact age and size of
the crater, and about the origin of the mega tsunami deposits that were located within the crater (Keller
2004). The focus of Keller s recent research was on finding some answers to these questions. To do so
she analyzed Cretaceous limestone, dolomite, and anhydrite deposits as the site of the Chicxulub
crater (Keller 2004).
The fossil deposits at the Chicxulub site suggest that the mineral layer in the crater was deposited after
the impact, but before the extinction of the dinosaurs and other species. Keller proposes two possible
explanations for this. The first explanation is that the sediments were deposited as the backwash of a
giant tsunami that occurred after the impact (Keller 2004).

The Documentary Stress Silent Killer
The documentary stress silent killer was not only eye opening, but also enhanced the overall learning
experience. As humans, we have a natural response to stress, and we cannot locate the off switch in
regards to turning off the stress. Most often, we stress for no actual psychological purpose and we are
doing so in a relentless manner. After time goes on the stress response turns out to be more impeding
than the stressor itself.
A definitive objective boils down to having the right type of stress because in the event that we do not
involve the right kind of stress there are hazardous outcomes. This can incorporate increased heart
rate, high blood pressure and a weak immune system. There is what we call good stress otherwise
known as eustress and bad stress known as distress. Some good stresses I have participated in are
going on rollercoasters and snowboarding and scary movies. I enjoy these stressors because I get the
thrill but it safe controlled setting.
The most interesting data in this documentary were identified with hierarchy in relation to stress.
Stress exists within hierarchy, which is a social construct. A study was conducted which the position
of your career specifically corresponds to the risk of disease and the length of life. Essentially saying,
feeling low ranked can generate stress.

Ever After by H.M. Irwing is a romance novel that follows the story of Cindy Marshall and Julian St.

she was a child. The story picks up with her fresh out of school with an Economics degree. However,
the only job she is able to get is that of a waitress in an elite night club owned by the self made
billionaire, Julian St. John. Julian instantly falls for Cindy after rescuing her from attempted gang
rape. However, he needs a creative plan to win the heart of the woman who no longer believes in love

others are much worse such as the repeating of the same phrase in a sentence. ... Show more content

I feel that the storyline lacks ups and downs. Every time a new discovery is made by one of the
characters or conflict arises it feels irrelevant. To me, Julian was a very confusing character. In the first
few meetings between him and Cindy, his motives are very unclear and he only says about 2
sentences. I found this very frustrating; it felt like the story was standing still and had no point. Even
though the story is told from Cindy s point of view, I feel that the author could have made bigger

How Did Aristophanes Make Lysistrata A Crude Comedy
Aristophanes
Aristophanes was a comic writer who lived between 450 and 385 BC and composed about forty plays
in his lifetime. His plays were all comedies, which usually addressed very serious political and social
issues in a direct and crude manner, which, like much of today s comedy, is what made them funny for
the audience to watch and appreciate. Many of the comedies would even go as far as mocking
members of the audience or making personal attacks upon contemporary political personalities.
Aristophanes Lysistrata is no exception to this crude comedy, ridiculing what he thinks is the absurdity
of the Peloponnesian War. The comedy is a brilliantly constructed piece with an extremely profound
underlying message encouraging a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The city state built blockades to resist occupation by the Athenian army and sparked revolt elsewhere
in the area, in Chalcidice and Bottiaea. Since negotiations failed, the Athenians sent troops into the
region by ship. However the Athenians also had their hands full with the Macedonians in the same
region and had difficulty suppressing the revolt. When Athens finally made a treaty with Perdiccas,
the Macedonian leader, she found herself betrayed as the Macedonians joined alongside the
Corinthians, who had come to the defense of the Potidaeans. In spite of all of this, the Athenians were
able to recapture control of most of the region with the arrival of reinforcements. Seeing that their own
citizens were now trapped, Corinth called a meeting of the Peloponnesian assembly at Sparta. During
this meeting the complaints against the Athenian Empire reached their peak. After another meeting a
month later the Peloponnesian assembly decided that war was in order. However, it was winter and
war did not begin immediately. In fact the Spartans sent three different ambassadors to Athens over
the course of the winter in an attempt to secure peace. The Spartans demanded that the Athenians
withdraw from Potidaea and that all the city states in northern Greece be given their freedom. Pericles
response to this demand was...

Making Movie Sequels
I know Hollywood executives cannot resist making movie sequels, especially when the first movie
made millions. In most cases, a film must make at least $50 million in order for executives to consider
making a second film. Creating a sequel is tough, mainly because of the audiences high expectations.
The films on this list were definitely disappointing, and in some cases, the movies should have never
been made.
Number One: Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues (2013).
Main characters: Will Ferrell, Paul Rudd, Steve Carell, and Christina Applegate
This film had the potential to be phenomenal. The cast alone should have been able to carry this film,
but the jokes in this movie fell flat. It almost seems impossible that Ferrell and Carell weren t funny,

Steve Carell is a spectacular actor, but he s no Jim Carrey. Carrey was extraordinary in Bruce
Almighty, and there was no way Carell could compete with his performance. The great thing about
Bruce Almighty is it was unique and exceptionally written uniqueness cannot be duplicated. Evan
Almighty lacked the comical genius that made Bruce Almighty so exceptional.
Number Three: Grease 2 (1982).
Main characters: Michelle Pfeiffer, Maxwell Caulfield, and Adrian Zmed
Again, Hollywood made another sequel without the main characters. The 1978 Grease film was a
classic movie starring Olivia Newton John, John Travolta, and Stockard Channing. I love Michelle
Pfeiffer, but she had a tough task to achieve. The first Grease movie is still considered to be one of the
best films ever made, and the odds of anyone being able to recreate the magic was slim to none.
Grease 2 was severely lacking one main ingredient the chemistry between John Travolta and Olivia
Newton John.
Number Four: The Lost World: Jurassic Park (1997).
Main characters: Jeff Goldblum, Julianne Moore, and Vince

Death Of A Salesman Self Deception Essay
An individual s ability to successfully recognize the reality from illusions is significantly influenced
by their understanding of themselves. Many choose to use self perception to prevent themselves from
the realization of living through self deception. However, in Arthur Miller s modern play, Death of a
Salesman, Miller explores the relationship between self deception and reality through the character
development of Biff Loman. Initially, Biff s perception of himself is tremendously influenced by his
father, Willy Loman, who unknowingly, lives a life full of illusions. As a result, these illusions prompt
Willy to set unrealistic expectations for Biff. However, as the play progresses, Biff realizes the
impracticality of these expectations ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Willy s perseverance to direct Biff into success has resulted to Biff s desperate acts to earn praise from
his father. However, Biff s dishonest acts of stealing are often justified by Willy through disregard and
excuse, even expressing that the Coach will probably congratulate [Biff] for [his] initiative . Instead of
correcting his mistakes, Willy continuously expresses his belief of Biff s predetermined success as a
result of being attractive and well liked. These acts effectively exemplifies Biff s adherence to self
deception as he imagines himself as an important figure in other people s lives. It can be seen that his
belief of being destined for success prevents him from allowing himself recognize the destruction it
brings. As a result, Biff has allowed how Willy views him become how he perceives himself. This self
deception has not only affected the actions in his childhood but as well as his decisions when finding
his role in the workplace. As stated above, Willy s consistent beliefs of his son s predestined success
results to Biff s immense confidence in himself. However, this confidence have provided him a false
perception of himself as he struggle to keep a stable job and even faces imprisonment. It can be seen
that Biff s lack of self perception and compliance to ideals of Willy has only allowed him to restrain
and prevent him from recognizing the difference between illusion and reality resulting in the lack of

Tuanfeng Orphanage
A box, that is where my story begins. I was born in China to an unknown mother during the time of
the one child policy. This meant that Chinese mothers could only have one child. Any additional
children were taken from their parents by the government. At the time it was illegal for a Chinese
mother to abandon her child. This meant that if mothers wanted to provide their child a safe and
secure future, they often chose to leave the baby during the night either at or close to a children s
orphanage. In my case it was reported that my mother left me in blue clothes, wrapped in a nice
blanket, and tucked me into a box. The box was placed at an open air market across street from the
TuanFeng Orphanage. In most all reported cases mother s will hid and watch their child all night to
make sure they are safe and found the next morning. I was found by Zi Young, an orphanage
employee on March 12, 2001, and brought to the orphanage. They estimated that I was about a day old

Elodea Lab Report
The primary productivity of Elodea in response to different wavelengths of light.
The term production initially means the creation or making of something, for instance organic matter.
However productivity is the rate of growth or biomass increase in plants (or animals). This is increase
of biomass or growth in plants, is generally caused by photosynthesis (6 CO2 + 6 H2O Light Energy
C6 H12 O6 + 6 O2), which converts light energy into chemical energy therefore creating new plant
tissues and new compounds and structures are synthesised and cells division. In order for
photosynthesis to occur, a plant requires sunlight, carbon dioxide and nutrients. Gross productivity is

Therefore the net productivity is the gain of energy or biomass per area per unit time that remains after
the deduction due to respiration (C6 H12 O6 + 6 O2 Energy + 6 CO2 + 6 H2O). Net primary
productivity and Gross primary productivity are for the measurement of energy of autotrophs,
therefore it is only used for plants and works with this equation: NPP = GPP R, where R is the
respiratory loss (Davis Andrew, and Garrett Naggle). My intentions for this experiment are to measure
the primary productivity in the aquatic ecosystem of a pond and see how it changes with different
wavelengths (colours) of light. Since oxygen is one of the most easily dignified elements of
photosynthesis and respiration, a good way to measure primary productivity is to measure the
dissolved oxygen. It would be easier to work using this method because respiration is occurring
simultaneously with photosynthesis, making it complicated to gauge the primary productivity
(LabBench). I will place water containing microscopic autotrophs and Elodea in a closed system and

Men And The Paradox Of Sexual Freedom By Leslie Bell Essay
Men and women face many social obstacles when faced within a community that has demanding
masculine and feminine roles. Men are projected to be extremely masculine and not allow fear,
anxiety, or vulnerability to show through. Women, on the other hand, are encouraged to be strong,
pursue their careers, and experiment with their sexuality. Although women are gaining power, they are
still left with a feeling of confusion about themselves. Leslie Bell author of, Hard to Get: Twenty
Something Women and the Paradox of Sexual Freedom , reveals the idea of women experimenting
sexually, but at the same time experiencing a sense of confusion and pressure to settle down and marry
in their twenties. The societal view is confusing for twenty something women which causes women to
demonstrate either/ or thinking within themselves. Bell s patient, Jayantha is splitting her desires by
deciding to be bad and rejecting relationship and not showing signs of vulnerability. Due to her
confusion, Jayanthi chose an identity that she could fully control; the bad girl. As mentioned
previously, men are also exposed to certain morals within society which are explored in Susan Faludi s

express their inner humanity, escape from difficulties of being a man in the real world, while still
following the standards of manliness. The Citadel is a place that allows men to detach from the

Gregor Mendel s Laws Of Inheritance
Gregor Mendel s Laws of Inheritance Gregor Mendel, also know as the Father of genetics, was a
monk who studied pea plants and discovered the laws of heredity. Heredity is the passing of traits
from one generation to another. There are three laws and they are known as; the law of dominance,
law of segregation, and the law of independent assortment.
The law of dominance states that the dominant alleles always show and the recessive alleles can be
hidden because of that. For example, if brown eyes are dominant in a family, their genotype would be
AA or Aa. In a heterozygous pair, like Aa, the dominant allele would appear in the phenotype because
dominant will always show even though there a

Relations Between China And China
Before establishing formal diplomatic relations with China, Singapore was already enjoying close
economic and political ties with China albeit on an informal basis. Both countries elevated their
relationship to a more formal level by establishing diplomatic relations on October 3 1990. Since then,
the economic and trade cooperation between the two nations has expanded steadily and China has
become Singapore s largest trading partner in 2014 with the bilateral trade amounting to S$121.47
billion. From Singapore s perspective, being an entrepot city devoid of natural resources, it had
historically no choice but to be the middleman of all the trading nations, including China. Due to its
strategic and well located geographical position, Singapore had emerged as an important middleman
and reexport centre for natural rubber from Malaya to China and a distribution centre for China s
commodities to Southeast Asia. When reforms in China began to rejuvenate its internal economy and
to open it up to the global economy by signing a number of regional trade agreements and by
accessioning into the World Trade Organisation (WTO) in the year 2001, Singapore has been actively
pursuing economic opportunities in China. Singapore and China are contracting parties to the United
Nations Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods (CISG), which establishes a
system of uniform sale of goods rules to govern the rights and obligations of parties to international

The Literature On Equality Dated Back Long Ago
The literature on equality dated back long ago and was more of a statistical issue prior to Rawls
philosophical contribution. The Rawlsian philosophy was based on providing justice beyond
maximizing the civil liberties. His idea difference principle was to make people equal by having a set
of institutions that allocate the worst off individuals the maximum level of primary goods . He viewed,
in this regard, primary goods as the goods necessary for the success of any life plan and hence
ensuring an equal primary good bundles is a way of making a person responsible for his life plan
choice. The other philosophers like Jensen (1969) and Herrenstein (1971) deduced in their papers that
the existence of inequality is due to differential intelligence of the individuals and hence rendering the
society an equal income distribution is merely an imagination. Their views were contradicted by the
other thinkers like Bowles (1973) and Colinsk (1974) who thought of the inequality as an outcome of
unequal opportunity. However, it was Dworkin (1981), Arneson (1989) or Cohen (1989) who
introduced the personal responsibility into the literature on equality. Dworkin (1981 a,b) argued about
how lack of internal resources can be overcome by external wealth distribution and introduced
responsibility into achieving the equality in the society. Unlike Rawls, Dworkin emphasized on
preferences instead of primary goods and showed that preferences of individuals matter into the

Quote Response
He recognized that he was feeling something he had never experienced before: the desire to live in one
place forever. With the girl with the raven hair, his days would never be the same again. (Coelho 8)
Personality: This quote shows Santiago s determination to marry the merchant s daughter since he
knows that the father probably would not let her marry someone like him, a shepherd who s always
away selling his wool.
Conflict/s: I think that this contributes to his conflicts because his love for her will make him reluctant
to seek his personal legend.
Foreshadowing/Guess/Question: I am guessing that the merchant girl might hold him back from
leaving Andalusia.
One afternoon, on a visit to his family, he had summoned up the courage to tell his father that he didn t
want to become a priest. That he wanted to travel. (Coelho 11)
Personality: This quote tells me Santiago is stubborn. Stubborn because he refuses to follow his father
s higher judgement to become a priest as well as going to the heights of becoming a shepherd which is
looked down upon.
Conflict/s: Because of his nature, he went against his dad s wishes.
Foreshadowing/Guess/Question: I think that he will value his dreams to travel more than the love he
has for the merchant girl.
The people who come here have a lot of money to spend, so they can afford to travel, his father said.
Amongst us, the only ones who travel are the shepherds.
Well, then I ll be a shepherd! (Coelho 11)
Personality: Santiago is very inquisitive because he wants to know more about the world he lives in
through traveling.
Conflict/s: In disobeying his father, he lost the girl he liked and had to sell his herd of sheep. He had to
sacrifice a lot being a shepherd.
Foreshadowing/Guess/Question: I am guessing he won t stop at nothing to achieve his personal
legend.

The War Of 1812 And The Civil War
The Antebellum period is known as the period before the Civil War. However, it is described as the
periods between the War of 1812 and the Civil War. The word e antebellum, means before the war,
and reform, means the improvement of what is wrong. The Antebellum period made transportation
more efficient for people who traveled. The Transportation Revolution provided several new, reliable,
safe and cost effective ways to travel to different parts of the nation, including new land in the west.
The transportation Revolution changed America by new types of transportation, economic growth,
expansion, and factory system growth. Roads and canals will shorten distances, effortless way to get
somewhere, and facilitate commercial and personal communication. The first roads in America were
developed by early settlers. The National Road was the first highway built entirely with federal funds.
The road was authorized by Congress in 1806 during the Jefferson Administration ( The National
Road par. 1). The first 10 miles of roads were built. Wagons were slow and very difficult to use on dirt
roads because of the weather. In 1811, the federal government opened the national road connecting
Cumberland, Maryland to Ohio River. Road improvements may have made it possible for more people
to live in a specific area, because access between that area and major job location centers is facilitated
by the improved roads. Around 1821, there was around 4,000 turmpikes and private roads that

Safe Port Act Of 2006
SAFE Port Act of 2006 Terrorism has been one of the major concerns of the entire world; however,
the incident of 9/11 entirely changed the perception of governments towards the issue of terrorism. In
this regard, the United States of America has significantly improvised its approach towards dealing
with terrorism. The approach of the U.S. is also justifiable as the United States is the only country that
had to face the maximum ramifications caused by terrorism as thousands of people have lost their
lives in multiple terrorist acts. Moreover, the U.S. has also tolerated the loss of billions of dollars in
the shape of loss of capital, and investing in improved military and intelligence services. Despite of all
these efforts, the U.S. has always felt the threat of terrorist activities; based on this fact, the
government and legislature of the United States of America has enacted many acts of Congress to
ensure the security of the residents, capital, and assets of the country. Out of various strategies to make
United States a safer country, the Security and Accountability for Every (SAFE) Port Act in
considered the most imperative yet debated topic among the politicians as well as the public of the
U.S.
Introduction of Safe Port Act of 2006 The basic purpose of the Act was to control all the ongoing
activities of every single port of United States to ensure the safety of United States from the threats of
terrorist activities. President Bush signed the Act on 13 October 2006.

Chicano movement was born. In the epic poem I am Joaquin written by Rodolfo Gonzales in 1969, we

people portrayed by the narrator, in an attempt to grasp the American s attention during the time of

Many times, these Chicanos were pushed off their lands and forced to try and survive elsewhere. I
owned land as far as the eye could see under the Crown of Spain, and I toiled on my earth and gave
my Indian sweat and blood for the Spanish master who ruled tyranny over man and beast and all that
he could trample. But... THE GROUND WAS MINE. This is what life was like before the Spanish
American War and before the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo. This was life before Chicanos were
pushed off their land because Anglos fought the documents in court. This is before the treaty that was
supposed to protect their rights fell through. This is when life was hard, but it was a life they knew and
a struggle they lived with. Although Chicanos have endured many struggles, this is one they want to
fight for. Chicanos faced another problem along with their land being taken and being treated as
second class citizens. Assimilating into American culture was difficult. Do you keep in touch with the
roots of your homeland or do you change and adapt to the new ways of American culture? This was a
struggle for Chicanos and it was difficult to adapt. A new language and a new culture in a place they

credibility through this making it more believable. Showing us her side of the story lets us know that
these problems are real. Explaining to the audience examples of this in everyday life and language

Informative Speech On Content Implementation Plan Essay
Content Implementation Plan I am appreciative for the valuable information I obtained from this
course. I intend to incorporate the researched practices into my reading program. Allington addressed
several critical components of instruction necessary to ensure reading interventions are delivered with
the best intentions and students are responding successfully to the reading interventions. However, my
aha moments included the topics: the volume of reading, matching students independent and
instructional reading levels to appropriate texts, expert interventionist, matching intervention to the
classroom curriculum, and group size. Volume of Reading I agree with Allington, the volume of
reading is a critical component which supports the quantity of extensive reading, required to ensure
struggling readers accuracy and fluency rates accelerate to develop proficient readers. Often the
reading interventions focus on specific reading skills such as phonics, word recognition, fluency
(speed), and etc. The research suggests the intervention time be dedicated to continuous reading versus
using the majority of the time working on individual skills. Allington provided me the critical
awareness and the importance of the quantity of extensive reading. I definitely will redesign my
intervention time to reflect the suggested amount of time to focus on individual reading skills and
extensive reading, as Allington suggested. Therefore, I look forward to incorporating extensive

used to the Chinese culture and thinks that a girl does not have the power to do anything over a man.
However, her thought as a Chinese immigrant was proven wrong when she received her citizenship

think that entering a room with shoes will be compared to a person entering homes and spitting on the
door . This shows that Suzuki growing up in Canada he does not know Japanese s beliefs. However, in

Buchla found an electronic alternative and soon developed his electronic sequencer. This meant that
artists would no longer need to go through the time consuming process of cutting up tape for
sequencing. Buchla said, you could simply take my sequencer and set the time and the pitch for each
interval. So that required, of course, a voltage controlled oscillator, and from then it led to a bunch of
other ideas (Pinch, 2004, p.40).
It was after the moog synthesizer that companies and inventors, much like Buchla, had started to look
at other ways of evolving electronics into music. The Minimoog was a monophonic instrument, and
instruments like the APR odyssey were soon after introduced that allowed duophony possible on
synthesizers. The APR odyssey mk I was released in 1972, and was an aesthetically pleasing
duophonic synthesizer, making it easy for a performer to tweak the parameters of the synthesized
sound with sliders. By the mid 1970 s, well known companies like Sequential Circuits and Yamaha
had developed more advanced keyboard matrices, allowing polyphony to be introduced to the
electronic music scene. One

Existential and Expressive Arts Therapy Essay
Existential and Expressive Arts Therapy Saré Gebhardt GEXTH 5102.01 Karen Estrella November
30, 2008 Sometime in the late eighties, Shaun McNiff, Sr. Kathleen Burke and I sat in a small pub in
Cleveland, Ohio. It was after midnight when conversation turned to my writing project, this book. Sr.
Kathleen asked, What s the title going to be? Well, I replied, the working title is Existential Art
Therapy. Shaun sighed. Bruce, don t be redundant. All art is existential. ...I have thought often of
Shaun s admonition. He is right, all art is existential. Perhaps that is why the concepts...have held up
as the world of health care has revolutionized, i.e., all art has to do with the basic human experience of
life as it is. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Expressive Arts Therapy within the Existential Framework Not much has been written about the use
of expressive arts in existential practice. Pat Allen, one of the founders of the open studio approach to
art therapy... decided to experiment with having people make art alongside each other and be of
service to each other during the process, hence the Open Studio Approach (Story, 2007). This
approach is based upon three elements; intention, attention and witness (Story, 2007). Story continues
to explain what a session would look like, an Open Studio session begins with art
making...participants are encouraged to focus their intention towards what they would like to
understand, change or accept about themselves (2007). This is the start of the participant developing
self awareness. Following this, is a time for each person in the group to sit before their art...
(participants) are encouraged to pay attention to their bodily sensations, judgments and reactions
(Story, 2007). The concept of dialoging with the art is often used at this stage. Allen then had
individuals write for a length of time about what they had experienced during their time sitting with
the art. As the studio participants gather as a group, individuals may share their writing if they wish.
The other participants are there to witness, to place no judgments and do not interrupt during this time.
This open studio idea was labeled as an art therapy process.

Cuneiform Writing And Hieroglyphics Essay
The investigation attempts to answer the question: How is cuneiform writing and hieroglyphics similar
and different? The research question is relevant because these ancient writing techniques are the base
for the writing system in modern times. The issues that will be addressed are: the reasons behind each
writing system, the important documents recorded, the way both systems were laid out. This
investigation will focus on the time period of 1800 BCE, around the time of Hammurabi s Code, to
150 BCE, around the time of the Rosetta Stone. The main places investigated will be ancient Egypt
and Mesopotamia,in the Middle East near the Red Sea and the Mediterranean Sea, focusing on
Sumerians and Babylonians. This will be accomplished through a thorough examination of The
Beginning of writing by Lois Warburton, The Code of Hammurabi , Cuneiform Writing ,
EDSITEment! The Best Of the Humanities on the Web , The Rosetta Stone by Carol Andrews,
Number Systems , Hieroglyphics , and Hieroglyphics.
The origin of the first evaluated source is the book, The Beginning of Writing, by Lois Warburton.
Lois Warburton had a double master s degree in psychology and English from Clark University. She
traveled worldwide, visiting over 270 national parks and historic sites. She spent months researching
subjects before writing them. The Beginning of Writing was published in Farmington Hills, Michigan

Thesis: At convergent boundaries, mountains, volcanoes, and other natural things can occur because
when the plates collide, one plate is forced above the other and this happens because of the density
and composition of the minerals and elements in the plates.
Story:
To start on our journey Jay and I started out towards magnetic north using our GPS (global positioning
system) on a beautiful mountain in the great state of Hawaii. You don t realize how beautiful nature
and the world is until you get out and experience it with your own eyes. To even think that magnetic

Jay and I look into the sky again but this time thinking about how far away we are from the Sun we
are from here on Earth. The Titius Bode relationship helps us learn how the spacing is possible in
which it is all mathematical. Spacing wise, if one were to stand on the sun and measure the distance to
each planet in the Milky Way Galaxy, someone would find that each planet would be almost twice as
far from the sun as the planet before. All of the planets orbiting the sun are rotating in a ecliptic which
is a oval shaped invisible ring that each planet has and follows. When Earth was still forming, the iron
catastrophe took place, making the material Earth would be made of turn into a spherical mass.
Ultimately, the earth is made of a hot iron core and the outer shell of the Earth is called the
lithosphere, also known as the crust or, that conveys many different things. As Jay and I walk slowly
up the mountain, climbing the so called lithosphere, we think about why we have different types of
hydrogen atoms. Some hydrogen atoms are safe like the hydrogen in water but others can be lethal
like in hydrogen bomb. This thought can be backed up with the research that the same element can
have a different number of neutrons in their nucleus and with those radioactive elements they are
called unstable isotopes. The weight of one of these atoms is calculated by mols. To calculate mols,

The Sociological and Political Subtleties of Woodstock Essay
The Sociological and Political Subtleties of Woodstock
The Woodstock festival descended on Bethel, New York promising three days of peace and music.
Event organizers anticipated 15,000 people would attend but were overwhelmed by the 300,000
people that flooded this rural area of New York state from August 15 17, 1969. While these facts are
well known and indisputable, the festival itself has proven to be a controversial endeavor. What began
as a small business venture was soon brimming with the controversy of an entire decade. It becomes
clear when examining the strikingly different accounts of the festival that reactions varied depending
on the fundamental values and personal circumstances specific to each observer and to the ... Show

This approach gives the book a distinct atmosphere as it reads like one giant conversation, allowing
the reader to appreciate Woodstock as the undertaking of many.[3] An examination of Joel Makower s
other work reveals his qualifications to describe Woodstock s status as a business venture. He has
authored or co authored at least twenty books, many of which involve business and investing. His
other works include studies of the media and an American history sourcebook.[4]
While Makower s description of the production of Woodstock outlines an outwardly gradual process
of preparation and decisions, newspapers of the era provide the initial shock and public reaction of the
festival. Outrage felt by local citizens of Bethel is displayed in an article written by Alfonso A.
Narvaez and printed in The New York Times on August 20, 1969. The article conveys the frustration
felt by local residents as an influx of thousands caused massive traffic jams, widespread property
damage, and a shortage of basic necessities and sanitary facilities. Many local businesses were ill
prepared to provide needed goods and services to such an enormous group of people. The Bethel post
office was closed while dairy farmers were forced to dump fresh milk because neither mail trucks nor

Teenagers Impact Teenagers
Teenagers can impact the lives of the elderly. What are your views? Can the self obsessed, wi fi
possessed teenagers of today actually impact the lives of the elderly from a different generation?
Many of you might think no, teenagers are still young and not sensible enough to handle big tasks, let
alone impact the lives of others but let s not jump to conclusions. Through the course of this essay I
will be discussing whether teenagers can impact the lives of the elderly, positively or negatively.
Hundreds of thousands of elderly people are lonely and cut off from society in the UK and 5 million
older people say the television is their main form of company but these tech savvy teenagers can
introduce the elderly to technology and social media to keep in touch with friends and family
members. By using a computer, tablet or smartphone, the elderly can send emails and share
photographs with their friends and family. Services like Skype, FaceTime and Viber enable the elderly
to have free video chats with their contacts. The elderly can also make new friends online or reconnect
with their old ones through social media sites such as Facebook and Twitter. The youth these days are
much more ambitious and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Can Young Adults Blame For Their Immature Actions Essay
Can young adults be blamed for their immature actions? Considering that young adults don t know
what consequences will happen because of their foolish actions, should we ignore their immature
doings? In Arthur Miller s, The Crucible, a young woman had started the witch hunt that s now known
to be the Salem Witch trials. Abigail Williams had no idea her decisions were gonna cause such
trouble for Salem and soon after she realized, she started to play along. Acknowledging Abigail s
history, she is to blame for these events; therefore, she cannot be excused or pardoned.
In fear, many young adults will try to blame someone for their wrong doing to save themselves. Even

The Planners Poem
The speaker is very fearful of the idea of modernisation and does not see any good in it.
Firstly, he is very skeptical towards the planners who plan this idea of modernisation. The writer starts
of the poem with They plan. It is unclear of who the writer is referring to, which I imply that he is
referring to the planners. The writer tries to distance himself from the planners, and does not want
anything to do with them by not acknowledging who they are. Besides that, his second sentence of the
poem is also related to them. The repetition of the word They many times emphasises how powerful
and mysterious are the people behind the city s construction and to rebel against them would be
practically impossible. Additionally, the speaker describes them as people who build and will not stop
. Nothing has the power to stop the planners, it is a hopeless battle if anyone even attempts to rebel
against this plan. There is a certainty about this sentence that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

He described the sea as draw(ing) back . It clearly implies how even nature would be destroyed by
giving way to the planners obnoxious and obliterating plans. The sea is disguised by civilisation and
draws back. At the same time, the skies surrender . The tall buildings have conquer the sky and even
nature is conquered by the planners. This both shows that even nature cannot do anything and the
disapproval of nature of these planners. Furthermore, the writer described bridges are hang in the
grace of mathematics . The word grace is supposed to imply moving freely in unrestrained strings.
However, mathematics , on the other hand, is made up of rules and obtain straight, unrestricted lines.
Beauty is being pushed away, replaced by mathematics, implying that modernisation has divine power
of replacing something so beautiful with something boring instead. The writer is not looking forward

The Effects Of Internet Addiction Disorder And...
The Effects of Internet Addiction Disorder and Technological Tools.
Problematic Internet Use
The issue of Internet Addiction Disorder (IAD) has become a topic of discussion for the newer
generations exposed to technological tools (smartphones, tablets etc.). Considering the effectiveness
of computer mediated communication (CMC) compared to the traditional face to face, there is a larger
chance to become addicted to the internet since technological tools have been developed to be
conveniently accessible. Using technological tools as a mediator, it can be possible that individuals
prefer CMC due to the three main components that it offers: anonymity, asynchronicity, and
accessibility (Valkenburg Peter, 2011). With this being said, it can ... Show more content on

The wide range of tools offered by different social networking sites can factor into the frequent use of
technological tools and the internet. Using Facebook as an example, it can be fairly easy to control the
information and media posted onto a user s profile. Burke Ruppel (2015) suggest that for the most
part, people have the ability to control the information and pictures they post on Facebook (in addition
to controlling the dissemination of others information about them, such as by deleting wall posts or
removing tags that identify them in others pictures), giving them the tools to convey a desired
impression to others. Being able to control and avoid certain insecurities on their online profile is what
makes sites like Facebook display a social medium between text and media posted while conducting
research.
Communication effectiveness overall in Computer mediated friendships
Taking in consideration the amount of time spent on the internet actively engaging with others, it is
more than likely that friendship development online will become a common preference amongst
adolescences in the foundation of establishing and maintaining relationships. Overall, CMC has
effected the way we communicate with others online. Unlike face to face communication, it is easier
to enhance the controllability of self presentation and self disclosure in

Comparing Which Pinter And Larkin Show The Pressures Of...
Compare and contrast the ways in which Pinter and Larkin show the pressures of modern life on the
individual
In both The Caretaker and Larkin s Collected Poems, Pinter and Larkin frequently paint their
characters to live in a relentless state of fear and anguish caused often by the pressures of the external
world. In this critical understanding of both writers, I will explore how the variations of pressures
from modern life effecting and potentially harming individuals. The Caretaker and Collected Poems
were both written in the 1960 s. The Swinging Sixties was a revolutionary time, with the introduction
to new influential music, the contraceptive pill and iconic fashion. These thriving characteristics

Mr Bleaney deals with a similar situation of characters residing in a fixed mind set that leads to
stagnant life. The speaker discusses similar physical restrictions and issues that he and Mr Bleaney
face living in the small cramped flat. The speaker reflects Where Mr Bleaney lay, and stub my fags on
the same saucer souvenir . Both men share the same dismal habits showing negligence they have for
their futures. The concept of self induced entrapment within a safe sanctuary is brought upon both
characters, showing no real desire to expand to the exterior world. In comparison, Aston in The
Caretaker resides in a safe sanctuary of his home and loyalty of the shed concept. As a victim of
electrotherapy, Aston is scared from the dangers of society s pressures on him, so he constantly keeps
himself busy with trivial tasks to keep his mind at rest. Pinter s stage directions support Aston anxious
habits, Aston crosses to the plug box to get another plug during one of Davies excessively bogus
stories, then later goes back to the bed just to fidget with the new plug. Critic here supporting Aston s
nervous ticks and reasoning behind it
Towards the end of the Mr Bleaney, Larkin potentially acknowledges that living in fear is a life
wasted. As the poem is retrospective, the speaker proclaims, That how we live measures our own
nature , as for Mr Bleaney who lived in trepidation of existence beyond his measly flat, has wasted his
life. The speaker reflects,

  • 2. A Spiral Galaxy NGC 1672, a barred spiral galaxy located in the direction of the southern constellation Dorado lies more than 60 million light years away. This is a spiral galaxy that s composed of stars in a central bar shaped design. NGC 1672 is a member of the Seyfert galaxy, which was named after famous astronomer, Carl Keenan Seyfert, who extensively studied galaxies with active nuclei in the 1940s. In the middle of NGC 1672 s galaxy, it contains a high surface brightness bar from which four wire like spiral arms extend outwards. This galaxy s symmetrical look is mainly formed by the four extending arms of which are bordered with the most spectacular dust lines that extend out from the center. Unlike the normal galaxies, NGC 1672 s arms do not fully spiral all the way to the center. The arms are actually connected to both ends of a linear like bar of stars encompassing the nucleus. In fact, the arms extending from the middle of this galaxy is the main reason I was drawn to this image. The arms with the beautiful pinkish purple rays look like an Eastern Redbud blossoming in the months of April May, which have always caught my eye since I was a little kid. Visible from the Southern Hemisphere, NGC 1672 shows extraordinary regions of star formations. Near the edges of this galaxy s galactic bar, the greatest clustering of star formations can be found. The picture taken of NGC 1672 above was photographed with Hubble s Advanced Camera for a survey in August of 2005. This image is composed ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Psychoanalytic Approach . And Some Of The Influential The Psychoanalytic Approach And Some of the Influential People Behind It Diane L. Williams Clatsop Community College The Psychoanalytic Approach And Some of the Influential People Behind It There are different theoretical approaches to psychology; behaviorist, humanistic, psychoanalytic, and biological. I will be discussing the psychoanalytic approach to psychology and some of the pioneers of this theory. What is the psychoanalytic approach? Psychoanalysis is a form of psychotherapy that aids an individual in determining the underlying cause of deep rooted psychological troubles when other approaches have not been successful in alleviating those troubles. This approach is better suited for those issues that have been plaguing an ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Freud based his theory of psychoanalysis on unconscious forces, sexual aggressive instincts, and early childhood experiences as what shapes who we are as adults. Even though his approaches may not be favored completely today research has shown that the self examination used in his psychoanalytic process can contribute to one s long term emotional growth (Cherry, K. 2016b). Health professionals were enlightened by psychoanalysis to the inner workings of the human mind, which were previously inexplicable (Beystehner, K.M., n.d.). Sigmund Freud s research indicated that our behavior is influenced by id, ego and superego, or what he termed structure of personality (nthdimension, 2010). The id is present at birth and is the most basic and primitive part of our personality. Id s drive is instinctual and can be described as having the life instinct named Eros and the death instinct named Thanatos. Id is responsible for the basic, instinctual needs of survival like hunger and thirst. Ego is developed to compromise between the instinctual desire driven Id and the external expectations of parents and society. Superego is developed when a child is about 5 years old and is the internalization of the expectations of parents and society that aides them to evaluate their behaviors for what s acceptable or not acceptable. • 4. New Journalism Is New Journalism a literary genre? Analyse with reference to the literary techniques used in two examples of New Journalism. Word Count 2231 I suppose the most common sense point at which to start is by defining New Journalism, or Literary Journalism, as Eisenhuth and McDonald (2007, p. 38) say it is called at the upper end of the spectrum. The Collins Concise Dictionary (1999, p. 995) defines New Journalism as a style of journalism, using techniques borrowed from fiction to portray a situation of event as vividly as possible. Wikipedia (2010) defines it as a style of 1960s and 1970s news writing and journalism that used literary techniques deemed unconventional at the time. The meaning of New Journalism has evolved ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Interestingly, Capote, along with Mailer and many other authors, never agreed to their style s comparisons to Wolfe s school of narration. Much to the contrary, many of these writers would deny that their work was generically relevant to other new Journalists at the time. In a 1966 Atlantic article, Dan Wakefield said that the non fiction work of Capote elevated reporting to the level of literature. Although praising the work of Capote, this goes some way in saying that literature is better than journalism. This is evidence for what Capote said his critics felt: Combining literature and journalism is little more than a literary solution for fatigued novelists. (Plimpton, 1967, p. 16) Newfield (1967, p. 20) said that, This new genre defines itself by claiming many of the techniques that were once the unchallenged terrain of the novelist: tension, symbol, cadence, irony, prosody, imagination. Gay Talese s 1966 article for Esquire magazine, Frank Sinatra Has a Cold, was a very influential piece of New Journalism that gave a very detailed portrait of Frank Sinatra, without ever having interviewed him. Talese undertook huge amounts of research, as did many of the New journalists, including Capote with In Cold Blood. Unlike Capote, Talese did not invent facts of characters. His article is, therefore, an example of New Journalism that falls under the category of a journalistic genre, as opposed to a distinct

I have chosen to use two types of analytical models to review the company; I will be looking at the organisational structure of Tesco, as well as analysing their business and competitive strategy. 1.1 Company overview Tesco is the leading food retailer in Britain, they have also focused on building non food sales which are available in store and online. Tesco is one of the world s largest retailers with approximately 4,331 stores in 14 countries which include Asia, Europe and the United States. (Tesco, 2011). Grant (2010) states, For a strategy to be successful, it must be consistent with the firm s external environment, and with its internal environment its goals and values, resources and capabilities, and structure and systems. (Grant, 2010, p.13). Competitive advantage refers to what sets the organisation apart from others and provides it with a distinctive edge for meeting customers or client needs in the marketplace. (Daft and Marcic, 2011, p.152) I will use a SWOT analysis to identify Tesco s strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats so it will be clear what Tesco need to improve so they can go on to making decisions to compete with their competitors and threats. The first step to analyse strategy is to perform a SWOT analysis. As Daft and Marcic (2011) believe Formulating strategy often begins with an assessment of the internal and external factors that will affect the organisation s competitive situation. (Daft and Marcic, 2011, p.155). So this is where I will begin the analysis. 3.0 Analysis with application The reason why I have chosen to analyse Tesco s competitive strategy and organisational structure is because both area s concentrate on the company s goals. Without these areas being acknowledged properly and successfully analysed they cannot achieve competitive advantage ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 8. Authority Control Authority control is a method of controlling and limiting where the object in the catalogue gets shelved under, and what terminology can be used to search for said objects. There are two types of authority control for this database and those are name and subject. Now, name authority control is generally used for large collections, to narrow a search or when there are too many subject terms to search by. To use name authority, it identifies the object in the collection by its title, publisher or even the author(s). Name authority allows them to be able to locate objects with ease, so that they can spend more time on other things. For example, if there is more than one object with similar titles or authors. To use subject authority control for paranormal romance is about using terms such as magicks or mythology to represent where the objects should be shelved or grouped under. The authority control allows the objects to be found with ease in different sections for them to locate which subgenre or subject within paranormal romance that is desired. The methods by which heat can be transferred are conduction, convection and radiation. Conduction is the transfer of energy from one object to another by contact and it will depends on factors such as surface area of the objects and thermal conductivity, k, is the property that indicates how good conductor of thermal energy is certain material (2). Convection is the transfer of energy due to a bulk motion of a fluid and can only be experimenter by liquids or gases (2). Due to the transparent colour of the materials allow heat transferred by radiation, it was expected that temperature inside the house followed ambient temperature. However, acrylic is considered a good insulator; therefore it will decrease the amount of heat transfer by conduction. Part B and C: Revised design and rebuilding the house model The current model house was built for humans, whereby the optimal temperature conditions inside the structure were aimed to be between 15 35 áµ’C, with an average temperature of 25 áµ’C (room temperature). Due to results from the first house model showed that the structure could reach temperatures higher than 50 áµ’C (Figure 1), the aim of the second model house was to moderately decrease the temperature inside the structure, so it could be suitable for humans. The materials used for the construction of the structure were white timber for the roof, black timber for the walls and wool carpet for the floor. Firstly, the roof was the part of the house that has more contact with sunlight during day and thereby it was the major area of the house that controls heat transfer. White timber was used to in the sloped and flat roof because its withe colour would reflect most of heat coming from sunlight (whitebodies are known as good reflectors). However, they are not stories of praise or of the bright future that AT T faces but yet stories of concern and challenges that lie ahead for the large world renowned telecommunication company. Here we will take a deeper dive into the growing concerns of AT T and form an environmental analysis of the three most significant factors, in my opinion that AT T is currently or will face in the near future. One of the biggest concerns for AT T falls into the category of Threat of Substitution and is the same concern that many other cable companies have and that is the waves and waves of cord cutters that are consuming TV in a very different manner. The only positive that AT T can take away from this is that almost every other cable company is facing the same issues. However, it could prove to be detrimental to one of AT T s competitive advantages, differentiated services. Another looming concern posing a threat to AT T ties in with the first concern of AT T s new cable plan through Direct TV, Direct TV Now and the free streaming feature the service offers. Federal regulators raised new concerns about AT T Inc. s practice of excluding its new DirecTV Now streaming service from data charges and, for the first time, lobbed similar questions at Verizon Communications Inc. . Verizon similarly allows customers to stream NFL games from Twitter or its go90 app without using data. The agency argues the practice could deter consumers from accessing mobile video services not affiliated with the carriers, such as those from Netflix Inc. or Hulu, which is co owned by Walt Disney Co., Comcast Corp., 21st Century Fox and Time Warner Inc. 21st Century Fox and News Corp, parent company of The Wall Street Journal, share common ownership . When thinking in The Police, as responsible for law and order, people often expect respect to the standards and protection. The main problem of the stop and frisk policies does not seem to be its mystique to prevent the crime Is its execution. When talking about freedom, Franklin Delano Roosevelt stated that there are four basic human rights that all people are entitled to. These are called the Four Freedoms. It is shown in stories, history, and even current events that not all people have these four freedoms. In order for a person to be free, they need to be able to speak freely, worship freely, be free from want, and free from fear. The first of the Four Freedoms is the freedom of speech. Since the attendees of this meeting were all slaves, the preacher preached a passage that was only about being loyal and obedient to one s master. Since this church service did not include white people, the preacher could teach things that did not benefit slaves, but instead, pushed the agendas of slaveholders. The preacher could even teach about things that he simply made up and were not in the bible because slaves would not be able to know, since most of them could not read or write. However scientists have speculated for decades about possible events that caused the dinosaurs to die out. Possibilities range from asteroids, to volcanoes, to climate changes. One of the more popular or well known extinction theories involves the belief that an asteroid struck the Earth, causing devastating effects, and triggering mass extinctions around the end of the Cretaceous period. Gerta Keller, professor of geosciences at Princeton University, has recently conducted research on the Chicxulub asteroid in which she analyzed new core samples taken from the asteroid site (Botzer 2004). These samples indicate that the impact that occurred at Chicxulub actually predated the mass extinction of the dinosaurs, which occurred at the Cretaceous Tertiary boundary about sixty five million years ago. Keller claims that the Chicxulub impact occurred approximately 300,000 years before the extinction (Keller 2004). Although previous researchers estimated that the Chicxulub asteroid was the cause of the extinctions, there had always been doubts about the exact age and size of the crater, and about the origin of the mega tsunami deposits that were located within the crater (Keller 2004). The focus of Keller s recent research was on finding some answers to these questions. To do so she analyzed Cretaceous limestone, dolomite, and anhydrite deposits as the site of the Chicxulub crater (Keller 2004). The fossil deposits at the Chicxulub site suggest that the mineral layer in the crater was deposited after the impact, but before the extinction of the dinosaurs and other species. Keller proposes two possible explanations for this. The first explanation is that the sediments were deposited as the backwash of a giant tsunami that occurred after the impact (Keller 2004). ... Do you keep in touch with the roots of your homeland or do you change and adapt to the new ways of American culture? This was a struggle for Chicanos and it was difficult to adapt. • 37. Informative Speech On Content Implementation Plan Essay Content Implementation Plan I am appreciative for the valuable information I obtained from this course. I intend to incorporate the researched practices into my reading program. Allington addressed several critical components of instruction necessary to ensure reading interventions are delivered with the best intentions and students are responding successfully to the reading interventions. However, my aha moments included the topics: the volume of reading, matching students independent and instructional reading levels to appropriate texts, expert interventionist, matching intervention to the classroom curriculum, and group size. Volume of Reading I agree with Allington, the volume of reading is a critical component which supports the quantity of extensive reading, required to ensure struggling readers accuracy and fluency rates accelerate to develop proficient readers. Often the reading interventions focus on specific reading skills such as phonics, word recognition, fluency (speed), and etc. The research suggests the intervention time be dedicated to continuous reading versus using the majority of the time working on individual skills. Allington provided me the critical awareness and the importance of the quantity of extensive reading. I definitely will redesign my intervention time to reflect the suggested amount of time to focus on individual reading skills and extensive reading, as Allington suggested. Therefore, I look forward to incorporating extensive ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In this quote, the owner did not give them a room at the Inn because he had a bad experience with the gaijin. For example, Japanese always takes their shoes off when they enter a ryokan, but Suzuki did not do that, that s why the owner was disappointed in the beginning; Japanese think that entering a room with shoes will be compared to a person entering homes and spitting on the door . The Origins and Developments of Electronic Dance Music (EDM) and Contemporary Nightlife Musical Culture The origins and developments of Electronic Dance Music initially started with the development of the synthesizer. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... At the time, British inventor, Peter Zinovieff and American Composer, Raymond Scott were both looking into basic electronic sequencing, however it was Buchla that had the initial breakthrough. Before then, artists were manually cutting up and splicing tape together to achieve sequences and Buchla found an electronic alternative and soon developed his electronic sequencer. This meant that artists would no longer need to go through the time consuming process of cutting up tape for sequencing. Buchla said, you could simply take my sequencer and set the time and the pitch for each interval. So that required, of course, a voltage controlled oscillator, and from then it led to a bunch of other ideas (Pinch, 2004, p.40). It was after the moog synthesizer that companies and inventors, much like Buchla, had started to look at other ways of evolving electronics into music. The Minimoog was a monophonic instrument, and instruments like the APR odyssey were soon after introduced that allowed duophony possible on synthesizers. This approach is based upon three elements; intention, attention and witness (Story, 2007). Story continues to explain what a session would look like, an Open Studio session begins with art making...participants are encouraged to focus their intention towards what they would like to understand, change or accept about themselves (2007). This is the start of the participant developing self awareness. Following this, is a time for each person in the group to sit before their art... (participants) are encouraged to pay attention to their bodily sensations, judgments and reactions (Story, 2007). The concept of dialoging with the art is often used at this stage. Allen then had individuals write for a length of time about what they had experienced during their time sitting with the art. As the studio participants gather as a group, individuals may share their writing if they wish. The other participants are there to witness, to place no judgments and do not interrupt during this time. This open studio idea was labeled as an art therapy process. ...
