Evolution Creationism in Education Essay
Evolution Creationism in Education
The twentieth century has witnessed the escalation of the creation evolution debate through famous
court cases and Supreme Court decisions on the teaching of evolution in public schools,
culminating most recently in a Kansas Board of Education decision. As this highly controversial
issue of the teaching of evolution in American classrooms rages on, it may be difficult for some
individuals of Christian faith to form an alternative belief other than the extremes of creationism
and evolutionism. Before discussing this issue any further, when I refer to strict beliefs in
creationism or evolution as extreme views I am not necessarily implying that they are wrong, but
are simply two views on completely ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Many Christians today would answer no to this question. Accepting the theory of evolution as a
possible explanation of how we came into existence does not deny God as our Creator or that He
remains at work today. Instead, it is entirely possible to believe that God used the process of
evolution to create the human species. In addition, evolution should continue to be taught in public
schools, even if this requires the presentation of dissenting views so that students may formulate
their own beliefs.
History of the 20th Century Creation Evolution Debate
The creation evolution debate entered the education realm in the early 1920 s when several states
prohibited the teaching of evolution in the classroom. Stephen Jay Gould (1999) reports that this
led to the famous 1925 Scopes monkey trial in Dayton, Tennessee, and the conviction of high
school teacher John Scopes on the grounds of teaching evolution in a public school. An article on
the world wide web entitled The Scopes monkey trial, says the trial pitted prosecuting attorney
William Jennings Bryan against defense attorney Clarence Darrow on the issue of the
constitutionality of a Tennessee law, the Butler Law, which specifically forbade the teaching of
evolution in the state. Oklahoma, Florida, Mississippi, North Carolina, and Kentucky already had
similar laws. David L. Marcus (1999) adds, however, that the Tennessee Supreme Court later
overturned the ruling on a technicality.

Judgement In The Poisonwood Bible
Never judge a book by its cover. People judge others based solely on differences and stereotypes
created by others and false rumors. In the novel The Poisonwood Bible by Barbara Kingsolver
this is seen many times throughout the book. Nathan, the father in the novel believes that
women are held to a certain standard and shows that in theses examples. First, when Nathan
yells, Nakedness, and darkness of the soul! For we shall destroy this place where the loud
clamor of the sinners in waxen great before the face of the Lord. (7). This shows Nathan judging
the women of the Kilanga Village based on the bible because he believes they are sinning because
the bible says so. Proving that he doesn t give them a chance to explain so they are yelled at by
Nathan that they are sinning. Another example is when Nathan expresses his feelings on sending his

men on a bench looked up from their bowls of new beer and stared at us with the same clouded

judgement because the men on the bench are judging Orleanna and Leah based on the color of
there skin calling them stupid ghost! . Another example is when Leah is teaching to children and
she begins to think the students are not paying much attention and disrespecting her. This is when
Anatole, the other teacher says, ... These boys are not accustomed to obeying their own
grandmothers. If long division is so important to a young man s success in the world, how could a
pretty girl know about it?... (74). This shows that a lot of the young boys in the Congo do not

Aristotle s Philosophy On The View Of Friendship
Aristotle was an ancient Greek philosopher. Aristotle s philosophy was his logical concept.
Aristotle s objective was to come up with a universal process of reasoning that would allow man to
learn every imaginable thing about reality. He wrote on a vast amount of subjects during his
lifetime, such as biology, chemistry, physics, ethics and logic. Aristotle wrote a book called,
Nicomachean Ethics. This book describes the view of friendship. He also describes three different
type of friendship, which in reality is exactly how friendship is in today society. The question
while reading this information is what is friendship in Aristotle point of view? Aristotle believes
that there are three different kinds of friendship; that of utility, friendship of pleasure, and
virtuous friendship. In his book he describe exactly what each type of friendship really is.
Friendship that is of utility is where both people derive some benefit from each other. Is like
saying that these people are friends from each other by gaining something else from the other.
They are not friends for the good of it; they are friends because there are benefits coming from
them. Aristotle describes a friendship of utility as narrow, easily dissolved or for the old. He
views them as such because this type of friendship is easily broken and based on something that is
brought to the relationship by the other person. Most of the people that have this type of friendship
are the young people. They do not know

Essay On Gender Equality
In today s society, we have engineered inventions to know one s dreams, self driving cars, etc., but
we have not understood the basic principles of human equality. Equality has been fought for
throughout all of history, but still, millions are fighting for it still. Gender equality is the equal
treatment of people without regard to their gender. All genders are subject to this unfair inequality,
however, it seems women are the main victim. Inequality can occur in the workforce, everyday
decision making, etc. There is no exact cause of it, and it is very hard to change a person s bias.
Though it is very unfortunate, there are numerous groups today working today to enlighten those
who still have these absurd beliefs.
Many people all over the world are denied basic rights such as the right the marry who they want,
career, etc based solely on their gender. Women in India have suffered from this inequality since
all of history. There, they suffer from dowry deaths, child marriage, marital rape, etc. However
bad these things are, they seem minute to other tragedies they suffer from such as acid attacks. In
one instance, a woman named Pragya Prasun was attacked for not accepting a marriage proposal
(http://www.dw.com/en/why acid attacks are on the rise in india/a 19313750). 47% of her body
was burned because of such a simple dispute. Although doodh peeti has long ago been banned, data
shows increased abortion of girls after finding the gender, nearing almost 8 million in the past

Reflection On The Treatment Of Prisoners
Our society tends to jump to conclusions and make assumptions of prisoners. Despite what they
have committed and how severe it may be they are still human. We look at them as if they are
inhumane because they are in prison. They still deserve some of the rights that they had before
being convicted. I m not saying that I am okay with the crimes they have committed but I am okay
with them having a little more of their basic rights. I think the treatment of prisoners should also be
reconsidered. I think that they deserve more time outside of their cells. Inmates only get a certain
amount of time outside which I think is entirely unfair. I also think that their visitation rights should
be reconsidered. As of right now they are only aloud to talk to their visitors over a telephone. What
if they have been in prisonfor years? I think they should get to physically visit with their visitors
and not just talk over a phone. Prisoners do have the constitutional right to enjoy contact visits
and I think that this should be reconsidered and changed. Prisoners do not get to choose the work
that they are permitted to. I also think this is unfair and they should be able to pick what they do
for work. In doing so, this will solve some of the problems of prisoners acting out and will result
in less cruel punishment of prisoners. There are things that can be changed that will solve a lot of
the issues that guards may have with the prisoners. Prisoners are not allowed to do many things.

My Field Experience At Bushwick United Head Start Program
For my field experience, I had the opportunity to observe a four year old pre kindergarten
classroom on November 5th and 12th at Bushwick United Head Start program. The school is
located at 136 Stanhope street, Brooklyn, N.Y. Majority of the families the school serve are
Hispanics, and as a result, the student body entails mostly ELL students. There are approximately
130 students enrolled in the program, and out of that 130, about 10% speaks English. The school
uses an additive model of English Language to support both the student s home language and foster
and support English language acquisition. The classrooms are staffed with teachers who speak the
children s home language, who can apply some use of the home language within the classroom and
providing hands on experiences for students. Additionally, to support students with disability, the
school also partnered with United Community Services (UCS), a program that offers speech
therapy, occupational therapy and physical therapy to students. The school uses the evidence based
Creative Curriculum. The Creative Curriculum is aligned with Head Start Performance Standards,
NAEYC guidelines and the NY State Prekindergarten Common Core Standards. The classroom I
observed consists of seventeen students, eight of which girls and nine are boys. Of the seventeen
students, nine receive services from UCS, and five of which understood and speak English, though
not fluently. The students are often pulled out the classroom to receive

The Turning Point For A Woman In The 1900 s The Awakening
Although The Awakening may be seen as a tragic love story to some, it is truly a novel that
displays the turning point for a woman s role in the 1900 s. The main character, Edna Pontellier, is
the epitome of the new working woman. The story centers around Edna s discovery of her beliefs
which are found through a series of awakeningsand contrasted with the social norms of the time.
Through the story Ednabecomes more and more uneasy about not being able to do and have what
she really wants. This can be shown from the beginning when she lets her children play by
themselves and doesn t miss her husband when he is away from home. Edna tried to be a good
mother by becoming friends with an old fashioned woman, Madame AdГЁle Ratignolle, who
devoted her life to her husband and children. However, when Edna was not around Madame
AdГЁle Ratignolle, she forgot how to be like AdГЁle Ratignolle and instead busied herself with
what was considered to be her childish ways . She would try to make herself as happy as
possible; she was not her happiest with her husband and kids. When Edna discovered her passion
for art, she embraced it and neglected her family even more so than before. Whether coerced or
through self realizations, there were many awakenings in the book. The first was that Edna was not
the traditional mother like AdГЁle, the second was that she enjoyed doing things for herself instead
of for her children and husband. This second awakening is shown when Edna takes time to talk

Epitaph invites his viewers to imagine a future in which they no longer exist, and then create a

This work of art is considered to be a performative installation, and it is created with materials
such as paper, two steel typesets, two hammers, and instructions. The two typesets are placed on
a carpet on the ground where you create your own epitaph. The instructions for this work are:
Take a few minutes to compose the words for which you will be remembered and write a draft.
Once you have completed your draft choose two cards for your epitaph and place them on top of
each other. Gently pick up the letters of the metal stamps and hammer your epitaph letter by
letter. Once you have completed your lettering, you may place your epitaph in the cemetery.
Keep the second copy for yourself. When viewing this work from left to right the first thing I
noticed was the description of the work of art I was viewing. Next to the description are the
instructions, which are stacked and labeled with the numbers 1 5. Then directly below the
instructions is a table that holds the materials to complete an epitaph; these materials consist of
paper, pencils, and clips. Next, moving past the table to the right, there are seven rows of thin
white wires, which are placed into the wall. Then clipped onto the wires are epitaphs, which are
spread out from left to right. Finally, below the epitaphs on a black carpet you have two steel

Breast cancer in men is relatively uncommon but its incidence has been rising. Traditionally, the
management of breast cancer in men is based on extrapolation from clinical trials of breast
cancer in women, due to the much more extensive data available in women with this disease.
There are, however, unique characteristics that distinguish breast cancer in men and these should
be taken into consideration when managing this patient population (Massarweh, Alfred, Choi 1).
Male breast cancer is a rare disease that accounts for less than 1% of all cases of cancer in men
(Sasco 1993). Limited research has been conducted in this setting and most available data comes
from observational retrospective studies. Therefore treatment of male breast cancer has been
extrapolated from results of trials conducted in female patients, which renders knowledge uncertain
about the optimal therapy in this setting (Sousa, Berta 1). Studies account for less than 1% of all
cases of cancer in men, men are still capable of getting cancer. Though the rate is acute for men

The New York Times, By Jon M. Gibson
Introduction Kyle Cooper is one of the most prominent and influential designers of both the 20th
and 21st centuries. As Jon M. Gibson states, his title sequences have, ...brought attention to an art
form that has long been considered an afterthought... . With more than 150 title sequences, five
Emmy nominations, the Title of Honorary Royal Designer and the winner of the AIGA medal in
2014, Cooper has become a huge affect with title designers in the 21st century. His creation of the
title sequencefor Se7en (1995) is what brought the limelight to Cooper, after having such a
success with both the public and filmmakers all around the world. The New York Times went so
far as to say that this specific title sequence was one of the most important design innovations of
the 1990s. Influenced by the works of Pablo Ferro, Saul Bass, Stephen Frankfurt and Maurice
Binder, Cooper s style and designs changed the way in which title sequences for movies, series
and video games are done nowadays, by evoking a revival in the importance of a meaningful and
well designed title; something that had been gradually lost in the previous decades.
Pre Se7en Era As a child, Cooper was highly influenced by American horror films and horror
comic books, which would leave him with an idea of ...evil as an active, supernatural force in the
world. A motif that is clearly seen in his work, as his sequences usually include depictions of evil
or have dark undertones, like in Arlington Road (1999), where Cooper

Apart from these two main diagnosis , Mrs. Reed appears relatively healthy. Unless she can
incorporate more sleep and lower her stress levels, further cognitive deficits will most likely

Furthermore, Mrs. Reed should focus on developing better sleep hygiene. She should work on a
nightmare protocol with her psychologist to decrease nightmares, avoid eating or exercising
within several hours of bedtime, and leave all electronic devices outside of the bedroom. It may
also be beneficial to incorporate some light stretching, yoga, or meditation before bed. By
decreasing her sleep deficit, Mrs. Reed s cognitive function will likely increase, especially in
regards to concentration and memory. It may also be beneficial to prioritize her work daily, in
order to ensure completion of the most necessary tasks. Furthermore, it is imperative to monitor
her cardiac functioning as she has a high family history of cardiovascular disease, and stress only
exacerbates this condition more. A cardiologist, a psychologist, and a psychiatrist should be met

Caesarea Maritima Analysis
The site of Caesarea Maritima contains many unique challenges for archaeological excavations.
Ceramics play an important role in discovering factual information about a site. Nonetheless,
Caesarea Maritima has a variety of specific challenges associated with it for archaeologists. Not
only does it cover a significant section of the coastal region, but the immense harbour over time has
been completely submerged in the sea. Along with geographical challenges, there are also historical
ones. The site of Caesarea Maritima was inhabited from Hellenistic time until the Crusaders, a
period spanning over 900 years. As it was continuously inhabited, throughout the archaeological

Important discoveries concerning maritime trade was learned through the analysis of amphora
found in Vault 1 of area C (Blakely 1988). This article not only focused upon a specific amphora
that of Amphora Class 48/49 (Peacock and Williams 1986 p. 196 99) but also other Palestinian
and imported amphorae found in the vault. Through the analysis of Class 48/49 information
such as where the pottery was made and what goods they were transporting was learned. By
studying the minerals found in the fabric of two of the sherds it was discovered that sherd 6.2
was formed in the Avdat region of the Negev (Blackely 1988, p. 38) while sherd 6.3, because of
the amount of heavy metals found within identified the amphora as being made in Gaza or the
Western Negev (Blackely 1988, p. 38). Coupled with the knowledge that very few examples of
Amphora Class 48/49 were found inland while many examples were found in Caesarea,
archaeologists theorized that the vessels arrived from the sea via Gaza avoiding any overland
travel. In the article it is pointed out the dating for the vessel types is debated. Dates range from
the third to the sixth, centuries. Of the Palestinian pottery, the analysis shows they might have
contained water or wine, however, no evidence of oil was found (Blackely 1988, p. 39). One of
the more common imported Amphora from vault 1 was the Rhodian Amphora (Blackely 1988, p.
41) and they were thought to have carried wine. Because of the large number of imported
amphorae identified, the archaeologists hypothesised that the function of the vault was primarily
that of a storage facility for international goods. After the contents of the amphora where analysed
it became apparent that their purpose was not to transport only one product rather residue from
two or more goods was found (Blackely 1988, p. 42). Another key piece of evidence identified was

Analysis Of The Book The Luck Of Roaring Camp
Even since the first thirteen colonies seceded from Great Britain in 1776, this land has been a
beacon of light and hope for those looking for a fresh start. It did not matter whether they were
trying to escape their homeland due to war or if they were just looking to start over, America was
their chance to for the freedom to do what they wanted. This is where the American Dream arose
from. According to Dictionary.com, the American Dream is defined as The ideal that every U.S.
citizen should have an equal opportunity to achieve success and prosperity through hard work,
determination, and initiative. While this definition may be true, I believe that there is much more
to it. I believe that the American dream is different for each and every person. Literature is a great
medium to see this idea in. The Luck of Roaring Camp by Bret Harte, Chicagoby Carl Sandburg,
and I Have a Rendezvous with Death by Alan Seeger are all example in literature of how the
American dream can vary from person to person and does not have just one rigid definition. First,
let s look at The Luck of Roaring Camp. The short story starts out with the only woman in the
mining community, Cherokee Sal, giving birth to a child. The first screams of the young boy bring
the crowd of men into an uproar of excitement. Thomas Luck is the first child to be born in this
community in ages. He brings the first bit of good news that the miners have received in longer
than they could remember. Unfortunately,

Depth of field depth of field, also called focus range is the distance between the nearest and

than an even number. Therefore if you have more than one subject in your picture, the suggestion
is to choose an arrangement with at least three subjects to make it symmetrical and visually
appeasing. Centred composition Central composition is often calm and static. It places the one
subject in the very centre of the shot. By composing your subject in the centre, you are basically
placing him in front of the viewer as if attempting to introduce them. It also helps emphasize the
space around your subject as it becomes the very thing that leads the viewer s gaze towards where

Third Party Logistics Providers
Dr. Janice Spangenberg
April 10, 2016
Introduction Blanchard (2006) defined third party logistics as, A single entity that coordinates all
the logistics requirements for a given company/agency. Today s world business environment has
become so competitive that companies in order to be successful in the market must deal with
different resources for satisfying their customer need. In the past decade or so the competitive
global market has made a big influence in the growing for external business. Third party logistics
providers are more and more employing external companies for inventory management,
transportation, warehousing, and other value added activities for customer services. Third party
logistics ultimate goal is to provide a competitive advantage to the organization for which they are
serving. According to Cardinal Logistics (2012), Third Party Logistics is an effective way to
reduce operational costs, and allow a company to focus on their core competencies.
Overview of Third Party Logistics Between the year of 1970 and 1980 it was recognizes as the

The Life Of The World By Fr. Alexander Schmemann
For the Life of the World authored by Fr. Alexander Schmemann an Orthodox priest was originally
intended as a study guide in the 1970 s for students preparing themselves for Missionary work,
giving them a world view , helping to speak about Christian view points along with an approach to
how they coalesce through the eyes of the Orthodox Church. A key theme Fr. Schmemann
discussed is Secularism, which he believes developed from our progressive alienation of the
Christian culture. Additionally, he presents his interpretation of the transforming biblical themes of
creation, fall, and redemption through a sacramental understanding. Fr. Schmemann s experiences
within the Orthodox Church liturgy reveal unity in the meanings of these three themes. It is
through these understandings he believes can effectively offset the disastrous effects of secularism
while revitalizing the sacramental understanding of the world. The author divided the book into
seven chapters, each building upon one another; The Life of the world, The Eucharist, The Time of
Mission, Of Water and the Spirit, The Mystery of Love, Trampling Down death by death, and Ye
Are Witnesses of These Things. Moreover, two Appendices follow the chapters: Worship in a
Secular Age and Sacraments and Symbol. In particular, Fr. Schmemann opens by converging on the
ostensibly minor theme of nourishment, even quoting famed philosopher Ludwig Feuerbach s
phrase. Man is what he eats. Anti religious groups attempt to portray

Problems In New York City Essay
New York City and its suburbs are world renowned for many things. However, when it comes to
bicycle integration with public transportation, New York City lies in the shadow of other cities
such as Portland and San Francisco. In these cities, all public buses have bike racks, trains have
bicycle storage, cyclists have access to secure parking at metro stations, and safe bikeways
provide cyclists with a route to metro stations. All four of these characteristics are needed to foster
a bicycle friendly transit system. However, while New York Cityexcels in certain areas of this
criteria, it lacks bike racks on buses and secure bike parking at subway stations. These problems
also persist in New York City s suburbs; however, the suburbs fall even farther behind the city
due to their lack of safe bikeways. With careful planning, these problems can be solved. To fix
the lack of secure parking at downtown metro stations, I suggest implementing bike lockers at
large parking garages in the city. The lack of secure parking at suburban metro stations can be
resolved with more bike lockers at city stations that serve suburban commuter routes. For the
shortage of bike racks on city and suburban buses, the solution is to simply install more bike
racks on these buses. Finally, the lack of safe bikeways in the suburbs can be resolved by building
more bus stops closer to residential areas, which will reduce the need for cyclists to travel long
distances on dangerous main roads.

The Contribution Of Islam And Islam
Outline the contribution to Islam of ONE significant person or school of thought other than
Muhammad and the Four Rightly Guided Caliphs.
Sayyid Qutb s contributions lie in his books and writings, which express his values and
perspectives. He wrote a total of 24 book and articles criticising the American way of living and
the Arab world for trying to become westernised. Social Justice in Islam was written first,
expressing his belief in tawhid (unity in God) and in Islam as the only way of life. He then joined
the Muslim Brotherhood, contributing to Islamic perspectives as chief editor of the brotherhood s
newspaper. Sayyid was arrested as he was accused of attempting to overthrow the govt. In prison, he
completed Shadows of the Qur an, which is a commentary on the Qur an, trying to find new
ideology and thus return to a truly Islamic environment analysing how Muhammad dealt with
ignorance. Milestones was published after his release and was so controversial, it lead to him
being re arrested. Three concepts were introduced in Milestones known as jihad (struggle against
evil as a community), jahiliyya (ignorance) and aqida (belief in Allah). As a result, Muslims strive
to fulfil their duty to defeat jahiliyya through forms such as jihad to serve Allah.

Corn Laws Chartism
Tension started when the Corn Laws were enforced in 1815, this imposed restrictions and tariffs
on imported grain, corn, flour, and meal. The Corn Laws were designed by conservatives to
keep grain prices high to favor domestic producers thus, food prices rose and riots throughout
the city of London began to break out. The Corn Laws enhanced the profits and political power
associated with landownership. The government directly regulated the import and export of
grain, making it more expensive to produce and trade grains grown by local farmers. In 1839,
the Anti Corn Law League was established to fight against England s Corn Laws. The league
mobilized the industrial middle classes against the landlords. During the grain shortage caused by
Britain growing population and the blockades imposed by the Napoleonic Wars, the Corn Laws
were repealed in 1846. The Reform Act of 1832 was an Act of Parliament that introduced a wide
range of changes to the electoral system of England and Wales. The act disenfranchised 56
boroughs in England and Wales and reduced another 31 to only one MP. The act also created 67

The Effects Of Stem Cell On The Human Body

Although this research could theoretically cure life long diseases, ethical concerns have been
brought to the attention to many religions that are against embryonic stem cell research. As I took a
closer look at the religion aspect, such as Catholicism and Christianity, the research of ESC is
ostracized because the process involves the destruction of a human in its early stages of life. For
many religions this study has been compared to abortions in that researchers are not giving the
embryo the right to its life (Robertson). From my personal view as a catholic, I do believe that
conception declares the start of a human life. Embryos are not just an assortment of cells that
can be researched without limitations, they are a person and should be held with respect, and
have the same rights as a born child or elder. Along with Christianity and Catholicism, Mormons
trust it would be wrong to destroy the embryo no matter what the gestational age is (Dawson).
However, I do not believe religions are gazing at the scientific prospective of embryotic stem cell
research. Religions that are against ESC research oppose it because they believe scientists are
harming healthy embryos but I do not consider that to be the case. There are cases in which an
embryo does fail to develop whether it is from miscarriage, abortion, or infertility. Only in

Shakespeare s A Streetcar Named Desire
Masquerades and Sexuality in A Streetcar Named Desire Masks conceal the truth from the
people who look at them. They use color, designs, and frills to hide the flaws beneath. In
literature, stage, and film, we see characters wearing masks all the time, just not always in a
literal sense. The most complex and intriguing characters wear these kinds of masks, to hide
their own flaws and scars from the outside world. In A Streetcar Named Desire, almost every
character has a mask they wear, to conceal the truth from the people around them. One of the
easier masks to see is Blanche s, as she struggles with her past and present. She hides her past
from everyone to maintain her southern belle persona. However, as the play progresses, her
mask begins to crack initially with the young man she kisses before her date with Mitch, and
shatters completely once she is raped by Stanley. Her mask seems to be created with an aura of
sexuality, and is broken once it s used against her. What s notable is that William s sister was
suffering from schizophrenia prior to writing Streetcar. When she was forced to have a
lobotomy, it affected Williams, and has played a role in many of his shows. Blanche s
dependence is a part of her mask as well, as it drives a lot of her character. In her own words; I
have always depended on the kindness of strangers. It s the reason she initially comes to Stella and
Stanley, and it seems her main goal throughout her time with them is to find a

Why Is Santa Clause Wrong
Santa Claus is an imaginary being, based off of the story of Saint Nicholas. Often we teach
children myths, legends and fairytales to portray a theme to them on a level that they can
understand, or sometimes we pretend something for fun, such as a doll being a child s baby but
both we and the child know that the doll is fake and not a real baby. Despite this, I believe
teaching kids that an old man drops down the chimney each year to give them gifts is wrong.
Firstly, because it sets a precedent in the child parent relation that some lies are OK, or even good
, and this can have a bad effect on their understanding of honesty, parents should always be
communicating truthfully to their child. My main reason is that if we give presents to our children
to show our love, how can we propel this idea through a lie? Why not give them the presents
ourselves? ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We show our love to others through presents, an age old tradition stemming from the giftgiving
magi, and jolly old saint Nick. Obviously we always have other ways to show love throughout the
year, but Christmas is a special time for this. We give people specific gifts that they want or that
we know they will enjoy, this can represent the care and consideration that we take for them. If we
use Santa Claus as a middleman, how is this teaching children the gift of giving ? Or that we take
time to think of them, and what they enjoy? It also takes away the significance or personal feeling
attached to the present, like with an expensive gift, or family heirloom. If christmas is about love,

Unlike FedEx and UPS, Airborne owned the airport that served as its major hub, so it did not pay
landing fees nor face any obstacles to tailoring facilities to its needs. It also built a warehouse in
the airport and leased it to business customers, so as to increase delivery speed. Moreover, the
airport s status as a Community Reinvestment Act one led to reduced property taxes.
Airborne relied less on automation and more on humans, in particular part timers that were paid
relatively low. Its fleet also consisted primarily of used aircraft to reduce CAPEX. It managed to
maximize its payload, which was roughly 80% full, around 10% to 15% more higher than its
competitors.
Airborne s customers were concentrated in major metropolitan areas. 80% to 85% of its volume
was shipped among the top 50 metropolitan areas, while it was below 60% for FedEx and UPS. It
could also use trucks (one third of transportation cost of aircraft) more often than its competitors as
a greater portion of Airborne s volume consisted of afternoon and second day deliveries.
In terms of pickup and delivery, Airborne did not maintain retail service centres. It hired contractors
to handle 60% to 65% of its volume, so it could save cost by owning a lesser portion of delivery
trucks. Its courier generally picked up and delivered more parcels per stop than FedEx, reducing
labour costs per unit by 20% and 10% for pickup and delivery respectively.

Causes Of Southern Secession
One of the most prevalent justifications and causes for southern secession was the protection of
state and citizen rights. More specifically, the protection of the rights given to them, and protected
by, the fifth amendment of the Constitution. This amendment protected the rights to property that
American citizens possessed, which in the south translated into the protection of their slaves, whom
they considered their property. The majority of southern opinion was that the northern states, or the
union, were attempting to strike down the rights of [the] Southern slave holder and override every
barrier which their constitution has erected for his protection (Document 2, p. 93). By this, the
southern opinion was arguing that the northern majority in the federal government was
intentionally limiting southern citizens constitutional rights, which in the 1860 s was a serious
accusation. The most common instance used to support this was the, in the southern opinion,
disregard for the Fugitive Slave Law of 1850. Many secessionists pointed out that this law was
meant to protect property rights, but that multiple northern states were attempting to nullify it
(Document 2, p. 94), thereby attacking southern rights in addition to the federal laws in place. A
secondary driving force of southern secession was the belief that the southern states and citizens
needed to protect themselves, and their way of life, from Abraham Lincolns administration and the
implications that it

The Renaissance And Ending With Rococo Styles Of Art
Beginning with the Renaissance and ending with Rococo styles of art, artistry has shifting styles
between the 14th and late 18th century. Each period represents a new and unique way of
representing art, and a few works of art perfectly explain the values between these periods. Values
such as how the body looks and moves, to dramatic scenes that spark interest or thought, and finally
the indulgence of pleasure, shedding off the worries of life in aristocracy.
The Renaissance was the first period that we met with after the Dark Ages. This cultivated a time
in art where the artist questioned more about the human body but staying true to the religious
bonds that dictated art just an age ago. Subjects like muscle tone, scenery, and linear perspective
were used during this time, and the human body was celebrated as something beautiful. Here we
saw more use of Contrapposto, which was almost a standard by this time, and sculptures felt as if
they were flowing and able to move when you walked by them.
To more visually analyze the Renaissance and it s style, we can take a look at Michaelangelo s
David, which displays the human body in it s finest form. Here, it shows David preparing for the
battle with Goliath. He s pondering and, thanks to scientists dissecting the human body during this
time, his muscles are in near perfect positions. We can see more realism during this time, and by
that I mean how the body actually functions and moves rather than a stiff, perfectly

Theme Of Bravery In IM Not Scared
The film Life is Beautiful directed by Roberto Benigni and NiccolГІ Ammaniti s film I m not
Scared explore the theme of bravery of their protagonists in their comparatively dissimilar
settings. The 1997 Italian film Life is Beautiful follows the life of a charming man who uses his
humor to win over the woman of his dreams and bravely save his family from the tragedy in Italy
during the Second World War. Also set in the late 1970s in rural southern Italy, the film
I m not
Scared encompasses imprisonment and the developing friendship of Michele and Filippo who is
kidnapped for ransom. Filippo is chained up and hungry when Michelle discovers him in a pit near
an abandoned house and he helps the boy out. Bravery is prominently explored in both texts
through dialogue, colour, and setting.
Benigni and Ammaniti present bravery through the dialogue presented by the protagonists
Guido and Michele. The dialogue that Guido speaks reveals plenty about his personality and
nature and gives the audience a firm understanding of his character. The beginning of the film
presents a lot of humor and the audience is introduced to a fairytale like story. Guido constantly
uses his wit and comedic nature to impress his lover Dora, and often on their encounters he
enthusiastically exclaims Buongiorno Princess! By referring to Dora as a princess illustrates
that Guido believes she is perfect and seeing as he repeatedly says this phrase also conveys his
ability to appear when least expected. Despite the transition in the film to a completely different
setting and situation, dialogue plays a key role in communicating to the audience Guido s ability
to lift the hopes and provide ongoing love and sacrifice for those around him. When Guido and
son Joshua are separated from Dora at the concentration camp they shout Buongiorno Princess! into
the microphone. A reaction shot is then used to show Dora s familiarity with these words and her
understanding that her husband and son are alive. The use of this common greeting is effective in
this film because it conveys that despite the sudden change of lifestyle for Guido and his family,
Guido s personality ensures his humor and devotion are expressed until the very end of the film
which shows

mother turns into the need and not the baby. In this manner, the therapeutic professional ought to

fetus are at a position, it is reasonable to give higher need to the wellbeing of the mother instead
of the fetus. The foundation of Utilitarianism in this case may be the mother having more
prominent value than the fetus as far as her capacity to imitate once more. Then again as saving
the baby may be also irrelevant as even its survival rate is not as

My Genocide Class Summary
My Genocide class senior year introduced me to the idea that everything a person does is
selfish. The idea of being construed as selfish creates a defensive feeling in many people, as the
class demonstrated with the introduction of the idea. After this class introduced me to the idea,
it became a strong belief of mine, but is it a fact that nothing we do as a species is completely
selfless? Or did it just appeal to me as a fact as a result of my friend presenting the idea? Or was
it just an obvious explanation for some people s actions? Or was I, as Mooney would say,
rationalizing [my] prior emotional commitments (Made Up Minds, Mooney)? Bacon created a
method to explore the truth of a claim like this, for, he believed that Man, being the

The Importance Of The International System Of Measurement
12 inches equal 1 foot. 3 feet equal 1 yard. 1,760 yards equal 1 mile. At a young age we are
forced to memorize these countless conversions making school a real struggle, but what if there
is an easier way. If you asked anyone else in the world about measurements, 10 cm equals 1
decameter. 10 decimeter equals 1 meter. 1,000 meters equals 1 kilometer. As a math student in the
US, using the traditional system seems absolutely ridiculous; when compared to SI, none of the
measurements are consistent or make sense. Take a look at the world, the International System of
Measurements (SI) is used by every country around the world except for three. Liberia, Burma, and
of course the US. In order to Make America Great Again the United Statesneeds... Show more

There are about 300 non SI units! Converting to SI would not only be beneficial to our teachers,
making their jobs easier because they don t have to waste time on teaching two systems or
teaching conversions, it s also making the lives of students a lot more simplistic. No longer
would they have to worry about if they made their conversion correctly, or what system they
should be using. In the long run converting will have an immense impact. Now, it s no surprise
that Americans are lazy and arrogant. When looking at the reasons why SI is not in effect in the
US is because we are lazy and want to prove a point. Whenever the discussion of switching unit
systems arose in Congress, the passage of a bill favoring the metric system was thwarted by big
businesses and American citizens who didn t want to go through the time consuming and expensive
hassle of changing the country s entire infrastructure. Many also believed that the United States
should keep its particular system, setting it apart from other countries and symbolizing its status as
a leader rather than a follower. (Hogeback) Isn t that an American thing to say leader rather than a
follower. No matter what it comes to the US has to make a statement and be the different one.
Americans decided that they do not want to convert just due to the fact that it will take time and
money and change their status . However, when

Buying A Home For Real Property At Record Speed At Real...
Sellers looking to sell a home in San Jose, California you are in for surprise, this thriving affluent
city has been turning property at record speed at comparable prices for real estate in the area. Of
course most of the homes are sold by realtors and listed in San Jose MLS. Selling on your own
has some benefits, but it s still not an easy task working alone. If you d like to give it try, here 7
Rules for pricing your home correctly within the current market and getting listed so realtors and
potential buyers know it s on the market.
Research
Pricing is a process using past indicators to predict the future. Let s start where you live, you need
to research recent sales data for homes in your neighborhood. It s relatively easy to do ... Show

I suggest that you compare at least 2 other resources besides San Jose MLS for pricing comps,
and at least the past 6 months, just to be sure you re in the right neighborhood for pricing. Look
at the homes that have sold, not the ones still listed for sale. Closed sales give you an idea of
what the buyers are willing to spend to own a home like yours.
Buyers
Getting an accurate read on the market so you have a price listing that will interest buyers is the
objective. Somethings you can do on your own and others, you need a professional. You did the
research and now you need to get an appraisal of your home. The costs vary depending on where
you live, but normally it falls around $200 $300. This task is essential, when appraisers look at
your home; they also use comps and do the market research to establish a price for the property in
the current market. Based on what you found and what report and compare, if you re both playing
in the same park it s a confirmation of the potential pricing. I say potential because, professionals
tend to be conservative without the emotional attachment you have to your homes.
Stats
Here are some recent stats on the San Jose market. The median sales price for homes through
January 2016 was $730,000. According to the past history of this market, this is a 1.4% decline

Best Budz Headphones are the Best
Millions of people use headphones every day. With a variety of uses, whether it s listening to
music, talking on the phone, or working out, headphones have become almost a necessity in
everyday America. One aspect that we believe hinders headphones that are currently being sold
today is the fact that they are all attached to a chord. Until recently, there was no such product that
has come out with cordless headphones. This is where our product comes in. Our product, Best
Budz, will be the first of its kind wireless headphones. We have created a headphone that is
seemingly the same size as the apple headphones, without the cord attached to them. We are
trying to use simplicity at its finest. The headphones will be magnetic and that way the
consumer will be less prone to losing the ear buds. We have also come up with a solution for
when a headphone does indeed go missing. We have installed a device into the ear buds to let
the consumer know when a headphone is farther than three feet apart from the other. When this
happens, the headphones will start to beep and vibrate to ensure the consumer can locate the
missing earpiece. We want to clarify any concerns that come with small Ear Buds being
wireless, especially the question of where do I put the headphones when they are currently not
being used. This is where a use of a tie in product will come into play. We have created a new case
that will be sold for major types of wireless phones, such as the iPhone and any other smart

The Conviction Of Drunk Driving
Drunk driving has affected every generation in a variety of negative ways. Whether an innocent
young driver is hit by an older drunk driver, or vice versa, these accidents should never occur.
Along with these accidents comes changes in people s lives. Even if something extremely traumatic
doesn t happen, lives will still change. Driving while intoxicated unfortunately causes too many
preventable accidents, injuries and deaths. In order to avoid these unnecessary occurrences, I feel a
license should be permanently suspended after the second conviction of driving while intoxicated.
It is common knowledge that driving after consuming alcohol is an ignorant act. Ignorance can
overpower resourceful decision making at times though. According to an ... Show more content on

Putting one s own life in danger is one story, but obtaining the seat behind the wheel and putting
other lives in danger is another, more hazardous story. I strongly believe plenty of drunk driving
incidents would not occur if the consequence was made that a second offense fully terminates
drivers licenses. As a part of the younger generation, I know that if that law was in place in all
states, many people my age would not be getting behind the wheel of a car after consuming alcohol,
or getting in a car with someone else that has. Unfortunately, I anticipate that more and more of my
generation will see drunk driving as the norm. In order to eliminate that not so normal norm,
rougher penalties must be

The Issue Of International Relations
The issue of (in)security is increasingly present in academic debates and in national and
international political agendas. In the light of this scenario, many different theories in the field of
International Relations aim to explain (in)security in the modern world. One of the most influential
approaches is the theory of securitization , developed by the Copenhagen School , in which the
work of Ole Wæver, Barry Buzan, and others stand out. Moving away from traditionalist views on
security, this theory proposes that an issue will be considered an existential threat to be countered
not because it possess an objective danger in itself but because it was shaped/constructed, through a
process called securitization, to be perceived in that... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
After that, an investigation about the development of the construction of the drug dealer as a threat
within the Brazilian context will be held. Finally, the analysis will focus on the security policies
adopted by the government of Rio de Janeiro in relation to the drug issue. Here, it will be given
more attention to the phenomenon of the militarization of civil public space, and particularly of
security apparatus, as everyday forms of state coercion. In this sense, the model of community
policing called UPP (Pacifying Police Units) implemented in slums will be explored, and so the
military invasions that preceded the establishment of these units.
Like many states in Latin America, Brazil suffers from high rates of urban violence and an
ongoing militarized conflict against illegal drug dealing. Influenced by the North American
conservative politics in the 70s, the war on drugs has recycled the internal enemy from the image
of the subversive that is a result of the cycle of military dictatorships to the drug dealer , and has
created conditions for the intensification of a real bellicose security agenda to contain the problem
(Batista and Lopes, 2004, p. 8).
Regarding the security policies, since 2008, the Security Bureau in Rio de Janeiro initiated the
establishment of a Police Pacification Units program (UPP) in the slums. Based on the Colombian
experience of MedellГn, the public security

Comparing Johnson And Voltaire s Rasselas Prince Of Abissina
Authors Johnson and Voltaire were both novelists of the eighteenth century who took the surreal
world of utopia and used it to compare the world around them. Published within months of each
other, both novels are noticeably similar with their biblical references and final critiques of modern
Europe. Through these similarities two different stories unfold, both which involve the wonderous
world of utopia. These imagined places of perfection begin to ask the question of what a person
needs to be completely happy, and it is when both protagonists decide to leave these havens that the
authors begin to show their critiques of man and the society they live in.
While both authors approach their texts differently, one can see their comparable critiques of the
problems within society through the utopias they create and the unanimous conclusion for the
imperative need for every individual to discover their own happiness by having both of their
characters choosing to leave it.
Johnson and Voltaireboth set their stories in the fantastical world of a utopia, but approach them
very differently. Through Rasselas, Prince of Abissina, Johnson uses realistic characters and stays
level with them throughout the text; describing where they are, what they are doing, and even
providing compassion towards them, thus encouraging the reader to identify with them. And it is
through this self identification from the reader that Johnson was able to make a more obvious
commentary on society through his

Assistive Technologies For The Classroom
Introduction
Assistive technologies are any device or aid that makes completing a task easier. From something
as simple as large print for the vision impaired, to more complex assistive technologies like hearing
aids for the hearing impaired. Assistive technologies are designed to make life and learning easier.
The use of assistive technologies inside the classroom is dependent upon many factors. From what
support is provided by the school and other agencies, to the standards and regulations that schools
must obeyed by. The most important factor though is the needs of the students and what assistive
technology best supports their needs. Finding and deciding which assistive technologies best
support a student can be difficult and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Inclusive Education
Every child has a right to an education and equal opportunity. Special needs schools are becoming a
thing of the past and students are being integrated into mainstream schools. In 1994 ninety two
governments and twenty five international organisations gathered with the belief that all students,
including those with special education needs, are entitled to an education delivered by mainstream
schools (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation, 1994). These like
minded governments and international organisations came together to outline a guide for all those
schools who believe in inclusive education. Stated in the guidelines schools and support services
were to receive resources to support student s learning and ensure teachers are well trained
(UNESCO, 1994). Assistive technologies, from Ipads to wheelchairs, would fall under the category
of resources.
Assistive Technologies
Assistive technologies are designed and manufactured to make life and learning easier. AT
supports both the teacher of special needs students and the student s development. There is a wide
range of AT available and the appropriate AT is dependent on the student s needs. Foreman and
Arthur Kelly (2014) stated, the task of finding the appropriate AT for students can be complicated
and drawn out. The task of finding the appropriate AT can be demanding and appear to be extra

Outline For Harrison Bergeron
The story Harrison Bergeron is about a society in the future where people with beauty, strength, or
intelligence are given handicaps in order to decrease these abilities they were born with so they
are able to be brought down to a level that would make everyone equal to each other. Due to this,
one Harrison Bergeronstood against the government by removing his handicaps as to regain his
freedom from them, all while being watched on television by George and Hazel Bergeron. The
book Harrison Bergeron by Kurt Vonnegutis a story that teaches readers that you should never let
anyone take away your freedom from you.
One example of when you can that freedoms shouldn t be taken away in this story is on page 2.
During this scene, Hazel suggests that George takes his handicaps off, but he responds by telling
her that he has become used to them, and they ve become a part of him. Although he says they no
longer bother him, Hazel also mentioned to George all of a sudden you look so tired. This shows
that even though the people being affected were subliminal to it, they were having their freedoms
taken away from them. Also, having their freedoms taken away from them, even without realizing,
was taking a negative toll on the people in this story. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
During this part of the story, Harrison Bergeron and his empress took off all of their handicaps as
to assert their independence. Once these handicaps had been removed, they each defied the laws of
motion and gravity and were able to leap all the way to the ceiling. This is an example of how the
story shows the theme of you shouldn t let others take away your freedom because, without the
handicaps that inhibited them, Harrison Bergeron and his empress were limitless. Their abilities
without the handicaps show that without others holding you back, you have illimitable

The Oka Crisis often brings to mind the often published, somewhat famous image of the
Mohawk warrior whose face is covered with a bandana, dressed head to toe in camouflage
equipped with a large gun on his back, nose to nose with a military soldier. It is an image that is
used to symbolize the sense of tension that existed far preceding the 78 day standoff. Not only was

Most of the people here were against the project but the mayor completely ignored our suggestions
and he even ignored the minister of the Environments suggestion, who suggested doing a study
before doing any planning at all . (Obomsawin, 1993) The mayor was ignoring not only the
Mohawk people from whom these decisions were directly affecting but the general consensus which
was not necessarily in support of the expansion.
On March 10, 1990 the people of Kanesatake took a stand in the Pines on a dirt road that lead to
the golf course by creating a road block. They set up barricades and sand bags around their land,
as well as placing barbed wire through the trees. Since there was no Warrior Society in
Kanehsatake itself, volunteer warriors were recruited from two other Mohawk reserves, Kahnawake
and Akwesasne to staff the roadblock. (Swan , 2010) It was a stand of unity to protect the small
piece of land they had managed to hold on to for their future generations. The Mohawk were asking
for respect, and to recognize their rights and independence over their ancestral land. It wasn t just
about the land though but about protecting a history and preserving a future. One recollection
captures this;
My memories of that summer at Kanehsatake are so different from the stories told by the media.

Descriptive Essay Football
That morning I had a really good feeling about today. That morning was a dry, and so humid you
wouldn t believe it. The sun was shining bright and the clouds were gleaming with excitement. It
was Thursday. My team called it Championship Thursday because we were fighting to win a
national title in Myrtle Beach. As I arrived at the field for our first game which was the first game
of bracket play. Yesterday was pool play. We played 6 pool play games and won them all so that
put us in the number one seed. That s mean we had a pretty easy game ahead of us. As the day
continued we one 2 more. We had a little break after the third game. Next game was what we
were all dreaming of, the national championship game. It was time. I was nervous, out of my
mind nervous. Everyone was, especially our coaches. When we stepped on the field I had a
good feeling that we were gonna step off the field as national champions. After we got
everything set up in our dugout we went to warm up. As we were hitting in the batting cages
teams were coming up to us and saying how amazing we were and how bad they wanted us to
win this game. This made us even more pumped to win. After we got back from the batting cages
it was so packed with people and there were many softball and baseballteams there to watch the
game. We had to take grounders and pop flies. Which we were doing really good. As I was
warming upour number one pitcher I was watching the other team and wow did they look good.

  • 2. Evolution Creationism in Education Essay Evolution Creationism in Education The twentieth century has witnessed the escalation of the creation evolution debate through famous court cases and Supreme Court decisions on the teaching of evolution in public schools, culminating most recently in a Kansas Board of Education decision. As this highly controversial issue of the teaching of evolution in American classrooms rages on, it may be difficult for some individuals of Christian faith to form an alternative belief other than the extremes of creationism and evolutionism. Before discussing this issue any further, when I refer to strict beliefs in creationism or evolution as extreme views I am not necessarily implying that they are wrong, but are simply two views on completely ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Many Christians today would answer no to this question. Accepting the theory of evolution as a possible explanation of how we came into existence does not deny God as our Creator or that He remains at work today. Instead, it is entirely possible to believe that God used the process of evolution to create the human species. In addition, evolution should continue to be taught in public schools, even if this requires the presentation of dissenting views so that students may formulate their own beliefs. History of the 20th Century Creation Evolution Debate The creation evolution debate entered the education realm in the early 1920 s when several states prohibited the teaching of evolution in the classroom. Stephen Jay Gould (1999) reports that this led to the famous 1925 Scopes monkey trial in Dayton, Tennessee, and the conviction of high school teacher John Scopes on the grounds of teaching evolution in a public school. An article on the world wide web entitled The Scopes monkey trial, says the trial pitted prosecuting attorney William Jennings Bryan against defense attorney Clarence Darrow on the issue of the constitutionality of a Tennessee law, the Butler Law, which specifically forbade the teaching of evolution in the state. Oklahoma, Florida, Mississippi, North Carolina, and Kentucky already had similar laws. David L. Marcus (1999) adds, however, that the Tennessee Supreme Court later overturned the ruling on a technicality. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In the novel The Poisonwood Bible by Barbara Kingsolver this is seen many times throughout the book. Nathan, the father in the novel believes that women are held to a certain standard and shows that in theses examples. First, when Nathan yells, Nakedness, and darkness of the soul! For we shall destroy this place where the loud clamor of the sinners in waxen great before the face of the Lord. (7). This shows Nathan judging the women of the Kilanga Village based on the bible because he believes they are sinning because the bible says so. • 6. Aristotle s Philosophy On The View Of Friendship Aristotle was an ancient Greek philosopher. Aristotle s philosophy was his logical concept. Aristotle s objective was to come up with a universal process of reasoning that would allow man to learn every imaginable thing about reality. He wrote on a vast amount of subjects during his lifetime, such as biology, chemistry, physics, ethics and logic. Aristotle wrote a book called, Nicomachean Ethics. This book describes the view of friendship. He also describes three different type of friendship, which in reality is exactly how friendship is in today society. The question while reading this information is what is friendship in Aristotle point of view? Aristotle believes that there are three different kinds of friendship; that of utility, friendship of pleasure, and virtuous friendship. In his book he describe exactly what each type of friendship really is. Friendship that is of utility is where both people derive some benefit from each other. Is like saying that these people are friends from each other by gaining something else from the other. They are not friends for the good of it; they are friends because there are benefits coming from them. Aristotle describes a friendship of utility as narrow, easily dissolved or for the old. He views them as such because this type of friendship is easily broken and based on something that is brought to the relationship by the other person. Most of the people that have this type of friendship are the young people. They do not know ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Essay On Gender Equality In today s society, we have engineered inventions to know one s dreams, self driving cars, etc., but we have not understood the basic principles of human equality. Equality has been fought for throughout all of history, but still, millions are fighting for it still. Gender equality is the equal treatment of people without regard to their gender. All genders are subject to this unfair inequality, however, it seems women are the main victim. Inequality can occur in the workforce, everyday decision making, etc. There is no exact cause of it, and it is very hard to change a person s bias. Though it is very unfortunate, there are numerous groups today working today to enlighten those who still have these absurd beliefs. Many people all over the world are denied basic rights such as the right the marry who they want, career, etc based solely on their gender. Women in India have suffered from this inequality since all of history. There, they suffer from dowry deaths, child marriage, marital rape, etc. However bad these things are, they seem minute to other tragedies they suffer from such as acid attacks. In one instance, a woman named Pragya Prasun was attacked for not accepting a marriage proposal (http://www.dw.com/en/why acid attacks are on the rise in india/a 19313750). 47% of her body was burned because of such a simple dispute. • 10. Reflection On The Treatment Of Prisoners Our society tends to jump to conclusions and make assumptions of prisoners. Despite what they have committed and how severe it may be they are still human. We look at them as if they are inhumane because they are in prison. They still deserve some of the rights that they had before being convicted. I m not saying that I am okay with the crimes they have committed but I am okay with them having a little more of their basic rights. I think the treatment of prisoners should also be reconsidered. I think that they deserve more time outside of their cells. Inmates only get a certain amount of time outside which I think is entirely unfair. I also think that their visitation rights should be reconsidered. As of right now they are only aloud to talk to their visitors over a telephone. What if they have been in prisonfor years? I think they should get to physically visit with their visitors and not just talk over a phone. Prisoners do have the constitutional right to enjoy contact visits and I think that this should be reconsidered and changed. Prisoners do not get to choose the work that they are permitted to. I also think this is unfair and they should be able to pick what they do for work. In doing so, this will solve some of the problems of prisoners acting out and will result in less cruel punishment of prisoners. There are things that can be changed that will solve a lot of the issues that guards may have with the prisoners. Prisoners are not allowed to do many things. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

My Field Experience At Bushwick United Head Start Program For my field experience, I had the opportunity to observe a four year old pre kindergarten classroom on November 5th and 12th at Bushwick United Head Start program. The school is located at 136 Stanhope street, Brooklyn, N.Y. Majority of the families the school serve are Hispanics, and as a result, the student body entails mostly ELL students. There are approximately 130 students enrolled in the program, and out of that 130, about 10% speaks English. The school uses an additive model of English Language to support both the student s home language and foster and support English language acquisition. The classrooms are staffed with teachers who speak the children s home language, who can apply some use of the home language within the classroom and providing hands on experiences for students. Additionally, to support students with disability, the school also partnered with United Community Services (UCS), a program that offers speech therapy, occupational therapy and physical therapy to students. The school uses the evidence based Creative Curriculum. The Creative Curriculum is aligned with Head Start Performance Standards, NAEYC guidelines and the NY State Prekindergarten Common Core Standards. The classroom I observed consists of seventeen students, eight of which girls and nine are boys. Of the seventeen students, nine receive services from UCS, and five of which understood and speak English, though not fluently. The students are often pulled out the classroom to receive ... • 15. The Turning Point For A Woman In The 1900 s The Awakening Although The Awakening may be seen as a tragic love story to some, it is truly a novel that displays the turning point for a woman s role in the 1900 s. The main character, Edna Pontellier, is the epitome of the new working woman. The story centers around Edna s discovery of her beliefs which are found through a series of awakeningsand contrasted with the social norms of the time. Through the story Ednabecomes more and more uneasy about not being able to do and have what she really wants. This can be shown from the beginning when she lets her children play by themselves and doesn t miss her husband when he is away from home. Edna tried to be a good mother by becoming friends with an old fashioned woman, Madame AdГЁle Ratignolle, who devoted her life to her husband and children. However, when Edna was not around Madame AdГЁle Ratignolle, she forgot how to be like AdГЁle Ratignolle and instead busied herself with what was considered to be her childish ways . The Museum of Contemporary Art currently has two exhibitions on view; one is called Dirge: Reflections on [Life and] Death, and the other is Sara VanDerBeek. One work of art that stood out the most to me was Epitaph from 2011 by Pedro Reyes. Reyes works are often meant to physically engage his viewers in order to shift their social and emotional expectations. The Epitaph invites his viewers to imagine a future in which they no longer exist, and then create a short message that conveys the life that the viewer has led or hopes to lead. Reyes points out a benefit to this type of therapy, which is that the patients who are participating in this work or art must embrace a certain degree of mortality. Limited research has been conducted in this setting and most available data comes from observational retrospective studies. With more than 150 title sequences, five Emmy nominations, the Title of Honorary Royal Designer and the winner of the AIGA medal in 2014, Cooper has become a huge affect with title designers in the 21st century. The New York Times went so far as to say that this specific title sequence was one of the most important design innovations of the 1990s. Influenced by the works of Pablo Ferro, Saul Bass, Stephen Frankfurt and Maurice Binder, Cooper s style and designs changed the way in which title sequences for movies, series and video games are done nowadays, by evoking a revival in the importance of a meaningful and well designed title; something that had been gradually lost in the previous decades. Through the analysis of Class 48/49 information such as where the pottery was made and what goods they were transporting was learned. By studying the minerals found in the fabric of two of the sherds it was discovered that sherd 6.2 was formed in the Avdat region of the Negev (Blackely 1988, p. 38) while sherd 6.3, because of the amount of heavy metals found within identified the amphora as being made in Gaza or the Western Negev (Blackely 1988, p. 38). Coupled with the knowledge that very few examples of Amphora Class 48/49 were found inland while many examples were found in Caesarea, archaeologists theorized that the vessels arrived from the sea via Gaza avoiding any overland travel. In the article it is pointed out the dating for the vessel types is debated. Dates range from the third to the sixth, centuries. Of the Palestinian pottery, the analysis shows they might have contained water or wine, however, no evidence of oil was found (Blackely 1988, p. 39). One of the more common imported Amphora from vault 1 was the Rhodian Amphora (Blackely 1988, p. 41) and they were thought to have carried wine. Because of the large number of imported amphorae identified, the archaeologists hypothesised that the function of the vault was primarily that of a storage facility for international goods. After the contents of the amphora where analysed it became apparent that their purpose was not to transport only one product rather residue from two or more goods was found (Blackely 1988, p. 42). It did not matter whether they were trying to escape their homeland due to war or if they were just looking to start over, America was their chance to for the freedom to do what they wanted. This is where the American Dream arose from. According to Dictionary.com, the American Dream is defined as The ideal that every U.S. citizen should have an equal opportunity to achieve success and prosperity through hard work, determination, and initiative. While this definition may be true, I believe that there is much more to it. I believe that the American dream is different for each and every person. Literature is a great medium to see this idea in. The Luck of Roaring Camp by Bret Harte, Chicagoby Carl Sandburg, and I Have a Rendezvous with Death by Alan Seeger are all example in literature of how the American dream can vary from person to person and does not have just one rigid definition. First, let s look at The Luck of Roaring Camp. The short story starts out with the only woman in the mining community, Cherokee Sal, giving birth to a child. The first screams of the young boy bring the crowd of men into an uproar of excitement. Thomas Luck is the first child to be born in this community in ages. Alexander Schmemann an Orthodox priest was originally intended as a study guide in the 1970 s for students preparing themselves for Missionary work, giving them a world view , helping to speak about Christian view points along with an approach to how they coalesce through the eyes of the Orthodox Church. A key theme Fr. Schmemann discussed is Secularism, which he believes developed from our progressive alienation of the Christian culture. Additionally, he presents his interpretation of the transforming biblical themes of creation, fall, and redemption through a sacramental understanding. Fr. Schmemann s experiences within the Orthodox Church liturgy reveal unity in the meanings of these three themes. It is through these understandings he believes can effectively offset the disastrous effects of secularism while revitalizing the sacramental understanding of the world. The author divided the book into seven chapters, each building upon one another; The Life of the world, The Eucharist, The Time of Mission, Of Water and the Spirit, The Mystery of Love, Trampling Down death by death, and Ye Are Witnesses of These Things. Moreover, two Appendices follow the chapters: Worship in a Secular Age and Sacraments and Symbol. In particular, Fr. However, when it comes to bicycle integration with public transportation, New York City lies in the shadow of other cities such as Portland and San Francisco. In these cities, all public buses have bike racks, trains have bicycle storage, cyclists have access to secure parking at metro stations, and safe bikeways provide cyclists with a route to metro stations. All four of these characteristics are needed to foster a bicycle friendly transit system. However, while New York Cityexcels in certain areas of this criteria, it lacks bike racks on buses and secure bike parking at subway stations. These problems also persist in New York City s suburbs; however, the suburbs fall even farther behind the city due to their lack of safe bikeways. With careful planning, these problems can be solved. To fix the lack of secure parking at downtown metro stations, I suggest implementing bike lockers at large parking garages in the city. The lack of secure parking at suburban metro stations can be resolved with more bike lockers at city stations that serve suburban commuter routes. For the shortage of bike racks on city and suburban buses, the solution is to simply install more bike racks on these buses. Finally, the lack of safe bikeways in the suburbs can be resolved by building more bus stops closer to residential areas, which will reduce the need for cyclists to travel long distances on dangerous main roads. Despite this, I believe teaching kids that an old man drops down the chimney each year to give them gifts is wrong. Firstly, because it sets a precedent in the child parent relation that some lies are OK, or even good , and this can have a bad effect on their understanding of honesty, parents should always be communicating truthfully to their child. Unlike FedEx and UPS, Airborne owned the airport that served as its major hub, so it did not pay landing fees nor face any obstacles to tailoring facilities to its needs. It also built a warehouse in the airport and leased it to business customers, so as to increase delivery speed. Moreover, the airport s status as a Community Reinvestment Act one led to reduced property taxes. Airborne relied less on automation and more on humans, in particular part timers that were paid relatively low. Its fleet also consisted primarily of used aircraft to reduce CAPEX. It managed to maximize its payload, which was roughly 80% full, around 10% to 15% more higher than its competitors. Airborne s customers were concentrated in major metropolitan areas. 80% to 85% of its volume was shipped among the top 50 metropolitan areas, while it was below 60% for FedEx and UPS. It could also use trucks (one third of transportation cost of aircraft) more often than its competitors as a greater portion of Airborne s volume consisted of afternoon and second day deliveries. In terms of pickup and delivery, Airborne did not maintain retail service centres. It hired contractors to handle 60% to 65% of its volume, so it could save cost by owning a lesser portion of delivery trucks. Its courier generally picked up and delivered more parcels per stop than FedEx, reducing labour costs per unit by 20% and 10% for pickup and delivery respectively. b. How much ... • 36. Causes Of Southern Secession One of the most prevalent justifications and causes for southern secession was the protection of state and citizen rights. More specifically, the protection of the rights given to them, and protected by, the fifth amendment of the Constitution. This amendment protected the rights to property that American citizens possessed, which in the south translated into the protection of their slaves, whom they considered their property. The majority of southern opinion was that the northern states, or the union, were attempting to strike down the rights of [the] Southern slave holder and override every barrier which their constitution has erected for his protection (Document 2, p. 93). By this, the southern opinion was arguing that the northern majority in the federal government was intentionally limiting southern citizens constitutional rights, which in the 1860 s was a serious accusation. The most common instance used to support this was the, in the southern opinion, disregard for the Fugitive Slave Law of 1850. Many secessionists pointed out that this law was meant to protect property rights, but that multiple northern states were attempting to nullify it (Document 2, p. 94), thereby attacking southern rights in addition to the federal laws in place. A secondary driving force of southern secession was the belief that the southern states and citizens needed to protect themselves, and their way of life, from Abraham Lincolns administration and the implications that it ... • 39. The Renaissance And Ending With Rococo Styles Of Art Beginning with the Renaissance and ending with Rococo styles of art, artistry has shifting styles between the 14th and late 18th century. Each period represents a new and unique way of representing art, and a few works of art perfectly explain the values between these periods. Values such as how the body looks and moves, to dramatic scenes that spark interest or thought, and finally the indulgence of pleasure, shedding off the worries of life in aristocracy. The Renaissance was the first period that we met with after the Dark Ages. This cultivated a time in art where the artist questioned more about the human body but staying true to the religious bonds that dictated art just an age ago. Subjects like muscle tone, scenery, and linear perspective were used during this time, and the human body was celebrated as something beautiful. Here we saw more use of Contrapposto, which was almost a standard by this time, and sculptures felt as if they were flowing and able to move when you walked by them. To more visually analyze the Renaissance and it s style, we can take a look at Michaelangelo s David, which displays the human body in it s finest form. Here, it shows David preparing for the battle with Goliath. He s pondering and, thanks to scientists dissecting the human body during this time, his muscles are in near perfect positions. • 40. Theme Of Bravery In IM Not Scared The film Life is Beautiful directed by Roberto Benigni and NiccolГІ Ammaniti s film I m not Scared explore the theme of bravery of their protagonists in their comparatively dissimilar settings. The 1997 Italian film Life is Beautiful follows the life of a charming man who uses his humor to win over the woman of his dreams and bravely save his family from the tragedy in Italy during the Second World War. Also set in the late 1970s in rural southern Italy, the film I m not Scared encompasses imprisonment and the developing friendship of Michele and Filippo who is kidnapped for ransom. Filippo is chained up and hungry when Michelle discovers him in a pit near an abandoned house and he helps the boy out. Bravery is prominently explored in both texts through dialogue, colour, and setting. Benigni and Ammaniti present bravery through the dialogue presented by the protagonists Guido and Michele. The dialogue that Guido speaks reveals plenty about his personality and nature and gives the audience a firm understanding of his character. The beginning of the film presents a lot of humor and the audience is introduced to a fairytale like story. Guido constantly uses his wit and comedic nature to impress his lover Dora, and often on their encounters he enthusiastically exclaims Buongiorno Princess! By referring to Dora as a princess illustrates that Guido believes she is perfect and seeing as he repeatedly says this phrase also conveys his ability to appear when least expected. Despite the transition in the film to a completely different setting and situation, dialogue plays a key role in communicating to the audience Guido s ability to lift the hopes and provide ongoing love and sacrifice for those around him. When Guido and son Joshua are separated from Dora at the concentration camp they shout Buongiorno Princess! into the microphone. A reaction shot is then used to show Dora s familiarity with these words and her understanding that her husband and son are alive. The use of this common greeting is effective in this film because it conveys that despite the sudden change of lifestyle for Guido and his family, Guido s personality ensures his humor and devotion are expressed until the very end of the film which shows ... Until recently, there was no such product that has come out with cordless headphones. This is where our product comes in. Our product, Best Budz, will be the first of its kind wireless headphones. We have created a headphone that is seemingly the same size as the apple headphones, without the cord attached to them. We are trying to use simplicity at its finest. When this happens, the headphones will start to beep and vibrate to ensure the consumer can locate the missing earpiece. Through these similarities two different stories unfold, both which involve the wonderous world of utopia. These imagined places of perfection begin to ask the question of what a person needs to be completely happy, and it is when both protagonists decide to leave these havens that the authors begin to show their critiques of man and the society they live in. While both authors approach their texts differently, one can see their comparable critiques of the problems within society through the utopias they create and the unanimous conclusion for the imperative need for every individual to discover their own happiness by having both of their characters choosing to leave it. Johnson and Voltaireboth set their stories in the fantastical world of a utopia, but approach them very differently.
