North Sentinel Island Case Study
C. North Sentinel Island has an interesting geographical background and some numerous unusual
demographics. North Sentinel Island is located in the Bay of Bengal, and because of that, the
geography helped shaped their initial isolationist policies. Due to their location in the Bay of
Bengal, the island helps strengthen their isolationist principles. i. Since it is an island, the shore of
North Sentinel Island is covered and surrounded by coral reefs. ii. According to Adam Goodheart
who obtained a mass communication degree from the University of Maryland, his article published
in The American Scholar states that Because it is surrounded by the coral reefs, the place does not
have natural harbors for exports or imports, which in led to further isolation from the world

jungle environment and habitat, although the shoreline has beaches. c. Sadly, there are no
significant physical features on North Sentinel Island due to their isolation. d. The economy of
North Sentinel Island is basically nonexistent. i. Due to their extreme isolation from the rest of the
world, trading with other countries is unavailable. ii. The North Sentinel society relies on
traditional roles of hunting and gathering, which would indicate that the Sentinelese people do not
have current and updated technology in comparison to the rest of the world. iii. Due to inability to

goods the Sentinelese people have and what type of plants and animals are on the island. North

Egg Freezing After a Cancer Diagnosis
A diagnosis of cancer inspired Victoria to look into egg freezing
Victoria came to Fertility Answers for egg freezing after she was diagnosed with nodular
lymphocyte predominant Hodgkin lymphoma, a rare and slow growing type of Hodgkin
lymphoma. As part of her cancer treatment, she was prescribed Rituxan. Since it s unknown
whether the drug can cause fertility problems, her oncologist at MD Anderson Cancer Center
recommended that she visit a fertility specialist to find out about egg freezing.

I think they realized that it was important to get me in fast because of my cancer, said Victoria.
At her first appointment, Victoria met Dr. Storment with her boyfriend and her mother. Speaking
with Dr. Storment about egg freezing immediately put her at ease. According to Victoria, He is so
wonderful. He took the time to answer my millions of questions, and it feels like I ve known him
for a long time.
The consultation with Dr. Storment convinced Victoria that egg freezing was the right move for
her, and she is beginning the process now. After I found out I have cancer, I felt as if I wasn t in
control of my life. Choosing to freeze my eggs made me feel empowered and in charge of my
future. I also knew I d regret it if I didn t do it, said Victoria.
Victoria won t let cancer stop her from becoming a mother
I didn t have much control over the cancer, but I had control over the decision to freeze my eggs
before beginning treatment in hopes of having children one day, said Victoria. She recommends that
other women in her position also consider egg freezing. You can t tell the future, but it s important

Style Analysis Of Tim Burton s Corpse Bride And Edward...
Style Analysis Essay We do not fear the unknown. We fear what we think about the unknown. Is a
quote from Teal Swan. This idea is incorporated into a lot of director s movies, however Tim
Burton, a creator of many famous movies, would probably have one of the best understandings of
this idea. This is because Burton tends to use ideas about the unknown in many of his films.
However, these ideas of fearing the unknown and curiosity of the unknown are especially
prominent in Burton s films such as The Corpse Brideand Edward Scissorhands. Burton typically
uses techniques such as some sort of misfit protagonist that is different than most people and a
judgmental society that treats said protagonist in terrible ways to convey to the audience that
society wrongly teaches people to fear the unknown.
Burton typically has the misfit protagonist deemed an outcast by their society or the society they
enter. For instance, in The Corpse Bride the protagonist, Victor Van Dort, is a sort of clumsy
and, quite frankly, normal character. Yet despite how normal Victor is, his society, or more
specifically, his parents and soon to be in laws, expect him to be this perfect person and,
inevitably, fails to do so at his wedding rehearsal, because of this he is deemed an outcast by his
parents and soon to be in laws. Eventually Victor runs away from his town and finds himself in an
unknown place. Being in this place made Victor realize that he had no reason to fear the dead in
the sort of

Great Smoky Mountains National Park
Similar to other national parks in the country, bicycles are generally allowed on most roads in Great
Smoky Mountains National Park. Although this is the case for most, if not all roads, it is important
to bear in mind that inclement weather and other unfavorable conditions should dictate when you
should explore these trails.
As most of the national park is geared towards hikers, campers and individuals who simply would
like to explore nature, this in no way means that trails meant specifically for bikers do not exist.
Bicycles are allowed on the Gatlinburg, the Oconaluftee River and the lower Deep Creek Trail.

Mormon Cult Research Paper
The Mormon Cult
They all wear weird under garments. They are racist. They practice polygamy. They are a cult.
Women are discriminated against.
These are some of the controversies I have picked up on throughout my life when those who did not
practice the religion brought up Mormons. I ve had two insights into the Mormon religion; one
being my trip to the Kansas City temple and another being family friend s with one some might
call a hard core Mormon . After many years of these assumptions I finally acted on my curiosity
when I was granted the opportunity after a friend invited me to join them for their service. On
impulse, I decided to step out of my comfort zone and take a look into this foreign religion.
After my invitation, I waited ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

That s actually not true in today s world, he replied kindly. He went on to explain that those who
would practice polygamy would become excommunicated. According to scriptures, the Lord had
commanded some to do so for various reasons (Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Moses, David, and
Solomon) and they believe that in Heaven polygamy is practiced.
Anything else you d like to ask? He went on to say. Well yes, I have twenty million other questions
I d like answers to.
This is going to sound really weird, but do you guys all wear the same underwear every day? He
burst out laughing at my question and looked at the other girls who were laughing under their

No its ok, he replied, Our church is very big on modesty. After a couple is sealed (married) in the

The Constitution And The Federal Government
The Constitution was written so that the Federal Government would actually have some ability
to govern unlike it had in the previous Articles of Confederation. They wished to establish a
more organized justice system which under the Articles, was the States responsibility and could
vary greatly from place to place. They also wanted the ability to raise an Army, to help protect its
citizen s lives and liberties. After The Revolution many of the founding fathers feared a large
government and preferred smaller and more localized forms of government. And with that lead to
the Articles of Confederation, the original governing documents, that assembled a very weak and
decentralized Federal Government and the States had most of the power. Years later many of the
founders did not feel that this was the best form of government, getting the States to assemble and
agree on nearly any bill was impossible including funding for the Federal Governments very
existence. The Federalists argued the Federal Government was powerless to protect its people
without the means or money to raise an Army, they wished for a more universal way of doing
things rather than the at times chaos the States were creating. Some other arguments for a Federal
Government was there was not a system in place to settle disputes between the states over
boundaries and trade, some States charged high taxes on the goods and people from other States.
Another argument made by the Federalists was in James Madison s essay

My Daily Life In Everyday Life
Books are essential to everyday life. They provide entertainment to the masses. They allow students
to learn without teachers. They can contain anything that someone might want to read. Books have
shaped my life and made me the person I am today. Just as Sherman Alexie found his calling as a
child in books and reading, books taught me things that teachers couldn t and were there for my
learning when no one else could be.
When I was in kindergarten, I was the only child in my class who didn t know how to read. I had
grown up listening to stories, weaved into my imagination by my parents. When I found out that
I would be able to read those stories ourselves, I was stunned. Every day in class, I would try my
best to learn and catch up with my peers. Day after day I left class feeling more and more
hopeless in my attempts. A wrong vowel. A bad pronunciation. A long word. I was nearly ready
to give up, when at last, I made a breakthrough. I finished my first book, a thin paperback copy of
Dick and Jane. The fact that the book couldn t have been more than five pages was irrelevant, I had
tasted the Lotus, and would never go without it again. From that day on, my school and home life
were filled with reading. I finished all the Dick and Jane books, so I started reading short picture
books. I finished the short picture books, and started reading Curious George. I finished Curious
George and started reading novels. The pages sang to me, painted pictures of faraway lands, heroes,

Noun Phrases Essay
Noun Phrases in English Truth be told, there are a large number of definitions about phrases.
Broadly speaking, Burton Roberts (1986) states that a group of words used as a component in the
structure of sentences is called a phrase. According to George Yule (2006), a noun phrase is a
phrase in which the main word is a noun functioning as a subject or an object. We can understand
the definition of noun phrases more clearly with the following examples : E.g. The man upstair
Five little ducks The beautiful vase on the table One of the most significant factors that we should
pay attention to noun phrases is that they cannot stand alone as sentences. While the clauses have a
verb that can change depending on the time reference , the noun phrases do not. Also, some noun
phrases do not include subjects either.

Obese And Overweight Women Essay
The Benefits of High Intensity Interval Training on Obese and Overweight Women Jamela
Rabino San Francisco State University The Benefits of High Intensity Interval Training on
Obese and Overweight Women Obesity is a prevalent and life threatening health condition
among our nation as a majority of individuals become3 more sedentary, exercise programs such
as high intensity interval training (HIIT) have been developed. HIIT has become a widely
known form of training that consists of alternating rest and work periods. During the work
period, the individual uses about 80 to 95% of their maximum heart rate, whereas the rest period
is about 40 to 50% of the person s maximal heart rate (American College of Sports Medicine,
2014). According to the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM), HIIT has become
popular because an exercise program can be easily developed and tailored towards individuals of
any fitness level and there are many benefits. Previous studies have shown evidence and benefits
for men, but there is not much data available for women (Smith Ryan, Trexler, Wingfield, Blue,
2016). The purpose of this paper is to explore the benefits of HIIT among overweight to obese
women. Article Summaries Kong, Sun, Liu, and Shi (2016) analyzed the body s response to high

The Fat Boy Analysis
The Fat Boy by Owen Marshall is a short story that shows how society in this text influences people
and also highlights the mob mentality of the community. The plot of the text is that the townsfolk
bring into being a fictional personality The Fat Boy , whom they use as a scapegoat for their
crimes. Despite knowing the truththe townsfolk blindly follow the mob, The Fat Boy eventually
becomes a reminder of the towns folks conscience, therefore, to get rid of the constant reminder
they get rid of The Fat Boy. Hence the text also shows how the loss of conscience affects the
community negatively as the whole townchoose to turn a blind eye towards the truth. Through the
text Marshall reveals to us the tribal nature of small town behaviour or mob mentality which is
shown right from the beginning, where the text shows twisted equality as the townsfolk are
following each other in the crimes, the crimes becoming greater as the text proceeds: The Fat Boy
is scapegoated for thievery followed by arson, murder, domestic violence, and rape. It is the
mentality of he did it so why can t I do it too that the townsfolk use as an excuse to continue
committing crimes, which is part of our nature as we tend to follow this mentality too, which
shows how the mob has influenced members negatively. In the text we realise The Fat Boy is not
real is by the way the people describe him The Fat Boy watched the passersby with the Frog like,
faintly enquiring look that the faces of fat boys have. The

The Major Causes Of British Resistance From The French And...
As the oppressive mother country of England and newfound monarch King George III sought to
harrow their way out of debt from the French and Indian War, they found the colonists as a way to
relieve their financial troubles. By wanting to decrease their financial debt, British Parliament
enforced tax burdens and tight regulations such as restriction of civil liberties and military measures
on the colonists. Although colonists wanted to separate from Britain due to unfair treatment, there
was still a strong bond with the mother country. Therefore colonial resistance was a direct result of
British error. British actions in the 1760s and 1770s escalated tensions in North American cities.
Parliamentary taxation was undeniably one of the most significant factors encouraging the colonies
to rebel in the years leading up to the revolution. The British government desperately needed to pay
off the debt from the French and Indian War and attempted to do so, in part, by imposing new taxes.
With each attempt, colonial resistance grew. Taxation without representation in Parliament was one
of the main reasons for colonial opposition. Although, there were still members of Parliament such
as Edmund Burke who understood that it was unjust to govern America without proper
representation. Burke stated in a speech to British Parliament, Govern America? As you govern an
English town which happens not to be represented in Parliament? Are Gentlemen really serious
when they propose this? Is there

Importance Of Teaching And Learning Approaches
ADAPT TEACHING AND LEARNING APPROACHES AND RESOURCES, INCLUDING
TECHNOLOGIES TO MEET THE INDIVIDUAL NEEDS OF LEARNERS. UNIT 2, 5.6
LITERATURE REVIEW
Agreeing with Littlemore and Oakey (2004), we founds that teachers are sometimes overwhelmed
by the technology and do not seriously think about how it might be usefully applied (Davies, 2009).
Indeed, language learning and teaching approach should be pedagogy driven and learning based,
which is more rigid and emphasises on the needs of learners with the aid of technology resource
and tools. Contrarily, technology driven approach which attempts to formulate a pedagogy based
on the cutting edge advantages of a new device, should be abandoned. If a language teaching or
learning project is driven by the fashionable technology, it might pose the danger to the learners as
well as the teachers disappearing over the horizon of SLA pedagogy.
Number of research reveal that learners dislike reading large amount of text on the screen, such as
Wiki, and they often prefer to print out the documents for reading. For instance, Boulton s (2005)
paper indicated that less than 20% of his students are happy with on screen reading. Anderson
(2003) reports that metacognitive online reading strategies plays important role in online L2 reading.
Despite of input issue, barrier of producing written output using ICT tools has also been noticed.
Mishan (2004) points out that it might sometimes be challenging for learners to compose on screen.

A Separate Peace Essay
As Carl Jung once stated, Man s task is to become conscious of the contents that press upward from
the unconscious . To reach a peaceful reconciliation, one must learn to embrace two distinct
elements of their personality, the Persona and Shadow. Likewise, in the bildungsroman, A Separate
Peace, author John Knowles depicts the common rivalry between young adolescents, and how they
struggle to accept their identity and the relationship between their unconscious self. Gene, a Devon
High student, becomes best friends with Finny and grows jealous of his ostensibly flawless friend,
causing him to make a life changing decision. His struggles to reach an inner balance between his
Persona and Shadow lead to the ultimate death of Finny. Gene s transformation involves the
changes of his mask and Shadow from guilt and jealousyto pride and tolerance which results in the
later acceptance of the light and dark parts of himself, allowing him to truly reach adulthood and a
state of peace.
Essentially, Gene s conflict begins as he develops feelings of envy towards Finny s outgoing

Pollution In Water Pollution
Pollution is a major problem in water systems all around the world and in our creek. In our area,
eutrophication and acid rain are the two main pollution problems in our area. Eutrophication can be
caused by sewage treatment plants, home sewage systems, and farm fertilizer runoff. Acid rain can
be caused by the burning of fossil fuel. Eutrophicationcauses plants to die and when the plants die,
the bacteria from the dead plants use up the oxygenfrom the water, which causes the fish to die.

My hypothesis is if the creek has higher levels of phosphates and nitrates, and lower level of
dissolved oxygen, then the creek will be polluted. The levels of nitrates and phosphates should be
near 0 ppm for the creek to not be considered polluted. The dissolved oxygen levels should be
higher if the creek is healthy. Dissolved oxygen is essentially the amount of oxygen in the water.
For the acid rain test, we put a solution on different rocks to see if the acid dissolved the rocks. The
nitrate and phosphate test involved getting a specific amount of creek water, putting different
solutions in the water, and matching the solutions with other vials to determine the state of the
water.Photo Credits to Alex Cathers
There were 487 macroinvertebrates that were found in total at the creek. 308 were pollution
sensitive, 101 were somewhat pollution tolerant, and 78 were pollution tolerant. This is one
indicator that the creek is less polluted because the more

The Birdcage Essay
In analyzing the style of Emmanuel Lubezki I found that his techniques adapts to the style/needs of
the director and the movie he works on. In the movie The Birdcage, he uses a long lens glamour
style whereas, in Children of Men he takes on his famous natural lighting style with a handheld
camera. What s unique about these two styles is that he manages to show that the subjects/actors
are the main focus and they standout and look amazing whether natural or artificial, he produces
natural looking shots. Lubezki also uses techniques in camera to create the best shoot without green
screens although, when used, the lightingholdes the image together and creates believable moments.
Lubezki has two predominant styles of lighting the actors faces. One is called short lite, which is
when the shadow side of the subject s faces the camera (three fourths lighting style) and the other
style of lighting cuts right down the middle of the actors faces. We see this in A Series of
Unfortunate Events, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

I have been a UNI men s basketball fan for a long time, and I had been waiting forever for this

Northern Iowa scheduled this matchup was because North Carolina point guard Marcus Paige was

Symbolistic Themes In My Mortal Enemy By Willa Cather
Throughout the novel, My Mortal Enemy by Willa Cather, she incorporates many themes, symbols,
and imagery. Some of the themes include love, marriages, and choices. One of the most important
and symbolistic theme is money. Money is used throughout the whole book; it is used to help
persuade decisions, it characterizes their lavish lifestyle, and it is what caused Oswald to become
Myra s mortal enemy.
Myra, being an orphan child was raised by her great uncle, John Driscoll, who grew up a poor boy
and made his fortune employing contract labor in the Mississippi swamps (10). The novel
describes their lavish lifestyle in which they lived in a grand house on a ten acre park and was the

Myra, even though leaving her beloved uncle, and moving with Oswald, never faced poverty,
she lived in Madison Square in an apartment on the second floor, with high ceiled room, solidly
built, with deep windows and wide doors (22 23). Oswald spoiling her ever need, Myra now
having a taste of money, didn t want to live a life without it, saying that it s very nasty, being
poor (34). They were able to attend elegant parties, go watch broadways shows, and have friends
that were actors. Myra enjoyed their lifestyle and all that the money had to offer. Things begin
to take a horrific turn for the worse, with Henshaw s road was taken over by another trucking
line; the office staff was cut into two and Henshaw was offered only a small position, in which
he refused, knowing that Myra wouldn t let him accept it (51). Oswald and Myra moved to San
Francisco, where Oswald had received a job as a manager over a commission house; the business
had failed, and Myra became ill (52).
Myra and Oswald had moved into a new building, and had lost all their riches and their lavish
lifestyle amidites they used to enjoy. Myra, being ill and displeased with the fact that they were
broke, her love for Oswald begin to fall apart. Myra stated that it was a cruel thing to be poor;
that it leaves you at the mercy of such pigs! Money is a protection, a cloak: it can buy one quiet,

Paul And Thecla Analysis
The Acts of Paul and Thecla follow the story of a young girl, Thecla, who at first is the
embodiment of the perfect, chaste daughter who later decides to run off and defy social norms.
Dating to the second century, this text is thought to have been written down by a presbyter however
was performed orally before that. Those that passed down this tale of Thecla are thought to be
mainly women, as the subject is women centered and would have been relatable. Although this text
got its beginnings as an oral tale, there would have been historical information contained inside.
Thecla is a figure that courageously defies the social order and opts out of the ascetic Christian
community which were common themes in the Apocryphal Acts of the second and... Show more

The Acts of Paul and Thecla is not merely a text in which the only thing going on is a competition
between men and that the woman is simply a measure of the better man. Cooper is wrong in that
historians can learn nothing about women or their lives at the time. First off, there are a lot more
women than just Thecla in the story. It is not simply a story between two men and then a woman
comes in and decides who is correct. While Cooper may be right in that some female readers may
have misconstrued the original authors meaning, this is to be expected. Each individual will take
something different away from the same source. By looking at how people interpreted this text,
historians can understand what made this so important that it survived almost two thousand years.
As Burrus states, these stories reveal aspects of the historical situation of these women. Thecla
was engaged to be married however after hearing Paul speak she wanted to become chaste and not
fall into social norms. Often time s chastity can lead to autonomy and freedom from oppressive
husbands and households. Chastity clearly opposes the traditional social order of marriage and
having a family, which is what is expected of women. The text itself and the popularity of the Acts
of Paul and Thecla show how some women were opposed to fulfilling their duties that

The Impact Of Imperialism
Anciently, imperialism has developed with the rise of human s civilisation. Imperialism defined as
per Cambridge dictionary as a system or a situation where one country with superior power used
force or influence to rule and exploit another country (Cambridge dictionary, 2017). In the
contemporary colonial era, many European intellectuals and thinkers have justified imperialism
such as Rudyard Kipling with his famous poem The White Man s Burden (Kiplingsociety.co,uk,
2017). The poem reflected the agreement of many Europeans of their superiority, which attached
with a duty to spread Western ideas and knowledge toward non Western people. They thought they
were primitive barbarians as Kipling expressed them Half devil and half child and they need
guidance to change their way of life. Extraordinarily, the British has exceeded its European
counterparts in colonial superiority and extended its empire, the largest in the world, over fifth of
the land in the earth and they gained that status because of their naval superiority and manoeuvres.
By 1783, Britain had established an empire which comprised colonies in Canada, America and the
West Indies (BBC.co.uk, 2017). The British East IndiaCompany had built up a small empire of...

2016 Outlook For Automotive M A
The 2016 Outlook for Automotive M A
The easy money policy of the Federal Reserve and the cash swollen balance sheets of
corporations and private equity firms alike contributed to an explosion of deal making in 2015.
Long term growth in vehicle production and the positive outlook for vehicle sales over the next
five years have made automotive one of the leading sectors for M A. We expect deal activity in
the automotive sector to remain strong during 2016, but to taper off from 2015 levels. The biggest
factor that will suppress deal activity this year is the impending interest rate increase by the
Federal Reserve. Other deal squelching factors include geopolitical instability (e.g., in the Middle
East and Russia) and the relative scarcity of companies that can be purchased at bargain prices.
Favorable Conditions Exist for Automotive M A
Even though macroeconomic factors will have a chilling effect on deal activity, automotive is
likely to remain one of the hottest sectors for M A. During its resurgence over the past five years,
the automotive industry has been highly profitable. In addition, the growth prospects for the
industry are favorable, especially in light of the overall low growth economic environment.
Despite the recovery, economic growth in the U.S. and overseas has been stagnant. Average GDP
growth in the U.S. over the past five years is at 2.4 percent. Other leading world economies such as
Japan, Germany, and the United Kingdom have likewise experienced

Celtic Life Essay
Upon hearing the term Celtic, the first things that come to mind are the awe of their intricately
patterned jewelry, lively music, and the flowing tunics they wore. These people are also known
for being fierce warriors and for their superstitious, nature centered religion. Celtic customs are
still alive and well in places like Ireland and the western reaches of Britain, but within this essay I
shall explore their origins and traditions. To start off, I will address the Tumuluspeoples. They were
among the growing number of societies whom spoke dialects that branched off of Indo European; a
language originating in, and spread from, the border between the continents of Asia and Europe.

From the very beginning the pro Celts established that their society was that of warriors, spending
much of their time warring with other groups and taking territories. They gained an advantage in
their warfare and trade alike once horses became commonly used in Celtic society. The increased
mobility put them a notch above the rest; helping the Celts in their invasions and defense. In the 7th
and 8th centuries BC, their boundaries kept pushing into lands which today would be called
Germany and France. Sizeable hilltop forts were built to maintain the people whom the Celts took
power over.
As time went on and lands were conquered, typical burial procedures morphed. Because of
having such a war centered life, they began burying the dead with their swords to commemorate
them for the gritty effort they contributed to their people. Supplies such as wagons, good pottery,
and food were also stowed away with the bodies in order for them to have a well prepared
afterlife. Chiefs, in particular, were buried with special bronze urns and multiple swords. Towards
the 8th century BC, as the Iron Age dawned, warriors began to be buried with sturdier iron
weapons. Wooden chambers replaced cremation urns more and more often as the 7th century
moved into the 6th century BC. Items such as swords and eating implements were still included. In

The American Characters Of Mccandless And The American Dream
Journal #5 In all his adventures, McCandless possessed little to nothing in possessions and

even if they start from nothing. Though McCandless was privileged with a comfortable life, he
intentionally threw everything away like his college money and car to prove he could continue
without having a head start. With nothing but determination and a steadfast mentality, he embodies

Reaction Paper On Preposition
Preposition is a part of a sentence. Without a preposition, a sentence may not carry any meaning
even. A sentence may fail to give its complete meaning without a preposition. It is the most
commonly used functional word in sentences. A preposition is placed anywhere in a sentence.
According to the rules of forming a sentence, a sentence does not end with preposition. The usage
of preposition at the end of sentence is not grammatically correct, still, it is used. It is permissible
in the modern times. A preposition that comes at the end of sentence is called stranded

adjective or as an adverb)
e.g.

The news about him is not true. (Adjective)
The word preposition has its origin from a Latin word praepositia meaning placed before that is

Barring Greenback, Long Kiwi Dollar Against Major Peers
The New Zealand Dollar (NZD), also known as the Kiwi, was one of the best performers last year.
As show in the chart below, the currency gained 20.48% and 13.60%, respectively, against the
Japanese Yen (JPY) and the Australian Dollar (AUD).
Needless to say, gaining against the US Dollar (USD) was as uncommon thought last year as it is
this year, in view of the Fed s stimulus taper and imminent interest rate hike. So barring Greenback,
below are a few arguments supporting the bullish case for Kiwi.
Faster growth
There s no denying that New Zealand s economy was nothing short of impressive last year. The
economy held out against the worst drought in decades, fiscal consolidation, a contamination scare,
a strong currency and, to top it all, a slowdown in its two most important trade partners, viz.
Australia and China. Although each of these factors posed a significant risk to growth, the resilient
economy overcame these challenges and is growing at its fastest pace since 2009.
The Reserve Bank of New Zealand (RBNZ) sees gross domestic product expanding by 3.3% in
the fiscal year that ended March 31, faster than its December projection of 2.7%. The economy is
then expected to expand 3.2% in the year through March 2015.
The growth has been primarily driven by recovery in various important industries of New Zealand.
The farm production surged on drought recovery, while the nation also benefitted from major

this schedule, and was abruptly awoken in the middle of the night by Dr. Morrison himself
through an angry telegram. James was highly intimidated by Morrison s words and called Locey
to tell him to fix the situation immediately as well as to tell Locey that he was never called in the
night when Dagny was in control. These words from James support, once again, the concept that
he relies on more competent individuals of society, and how he does not take responsibility when
it is necessary. The words that James said to Locey also imply that the success of Taggart
Transcontinental was completely due to Dagny, and how she ran the company. This point is
magnified in the following actions taken by James once he finds out that the Taggart Tunnel has
collapsed, as well as the explosion between the diesel engine train and the Army Munitions killed
everyone on board. James immediately contacts Dagny though her assistant Eddie, and then he
destroys Dagny s resignation letter once she arrives at Taggart Transcontinental. James actions are
seen as highly manipulative, as well as irresponsible. James ignored the extreme situations that were
occurring at the company and used it to entice Dagny to return to Taggart Transcontinental. These
previously mentioned actions taken by James were foreseen by his first words in the novel, which
implied his evasion of his obligations, and his destructive and selfish

Kids Should Not Be Allowed To Wear Uniforms In Schools
Many schools each year are gradually turning towards the use of school uniforms. Statistics show
that 5% of schools worldwide are starting to take use in having school uniforms. I believe that
schools should have uniforms because it limits kids to getting bullied, parents don t have to worry
if their kids have name brand clothingor not, and the schooldoesn t have to worry about kids
dressing inappropriately.
In case, you didn t know, more than half of the kids who don t wear uniforms to school get bullied
every day. If kids wear uniforms to school it decreases their chance at getting bullied about the
clothes they wear. Although most kids don t like the fact that they have to match every other kid,
however, even matching eliminates the chance for you to get bullied. Any ... Show more content on

Most kids are late getting to school because they do not know what to wear. If schools get
uniforms it will reduce the amount of kids showing late up late to school every day. Also,
teachers won t have to stress about kids wearing inappropriate clothing to school if they have to
wear uniforms. Although, kids like to express themselves by the clothes they wear, having school
uniforms decreases the chance of kids showing up late to school and dressing inappropriately. If
schools who have uniforms came up with a way for kids to express themselves, uniforms wouldn t
be as bad.
All things considered, I think every school should have uniforms. Although, not very many schools
have uniforms now, this can be the first of many steps to end bullying, they can help the parents
save money, and they will stop kids from dressing inappropriately. After considering all the
solutions that can impact your students in positive ways, schools should consider having uniforms.
School uniforms can fix many of the problems that students face on a day to day basis although,
they don t let kids express

The Testament Of Jesus Christ
Jesus Christ is known by many people throughout the world as the incarnation of God. Christians
believe in one God who is three persons. The Father, Son and Holy Spirit is called the Trinity.
The second person, God the son also known as the Word of God became a man to save the human
race. He was born in the city of Bethlehem in Israel. He was known as Jesusof Nazareth, or Jesus
son of Joseph and Mary, or Jesus the son of the carpenter. As he became known and respected as a
wise and holy man, people realized that there was much more to him. As knowledge of him
increased among his followers, people began to call him Christ, which means Anointed . They came
to understand that he was the fulfillment of the prophesies of the Old Testament. The Old Testament
is first half of the Bible. This is what the Jewish people believe to be the complete Bible. The
Bible is believed to be the inspired word of God. It is God s teachings and communications to the
human race which reveals his love for us and how he wants us to live. As an expression of his
love he promised to send a messiah or savior to save us and help us live happier lives now and go
to heaven after we die. It contains several prophecies that prepare us to recognize the true savior
when he comes. Christians believe that the savior prophesied in the Old Testament is Jesus. The
New Testament is the other half of the Bible that Christians believe is also the inspired word of
God. The New Testament shows how Jesus is

Comparison Of Eros, Philia, And Agape
Eros, Philia, and Agape all have very rich backgrounds in our history. Eros being the Greek God of
love, focused on pleasure and desire. Gives us a basis to examine how indulging in pleasure is a
form of self gratification, allowing the lover to experience love in its most shallow form. Eros
lacks morality because its selfish, exclusive, and requires little to no self love. Erosis particular on
which person receives this love, it denies the beloved any true form of compassion, and there is
little to no self love involved because it is the beloved that is giving to the lover, there is no need
for deep thought about what they could give back to the beloved. Philia is the deeper form of love
that requires both parties to be self aware of their

Hypochondriasis Research Papers
Somatoform disorders are a group of psychiatric disorders that cause unexplainable physical
symptoms. The DSM IV lists the symptoms as weakness, seizures, or abnormal movements that
are not attributable to a general medical condition or to feigning and that are judged to be
associated with psychological factors. Hypochondriasis is defined as an overwhelming fear that
you have a serious disease, even though health care providers can find no evidence of illness
(University of Maryland Medical Center). Although it is widely believed to be a stable and chronic
condition with a low remission rate, studies show that patients exhibit significant declines in
symptoms yet continue to meet the DSM s diagnostic criteria over an extended time period.... Show

This new DSM V term focuses on basing diagnosis on positive symptoms, rather than the absence
of a medical explanation of somatic symptoms. While DSM IV was organized centrally around
the concept of medically unexplained symptoms, DSM 5 criteria instead emphasize the degree to
which a patient s thoughts, feelings and behaviors about their somatic symptoms are
disproportionate or excessive (American Psychological Association). The DSM V now defines
conversion disorder as functional neurological symptom disorder due to overlapping symptoms
and lack of medical evidence. Another key change in the DSM V criteria is that while medically
unexplained symptoms were a key feature for many of the disorders in DSM IV, a somatic
symptom disorder diagnosis does not require that the symptoms are medically unexplained. The
criteria for conversion disorder has been modified to underscore the the essential importance of the
neurological examination and in recognition that relevant psychological factors may not be
demonstrable at the time of

Examples Of Marginalization In Brazil
In the book, the Minister of Education and Health Gustavo Capanema compiled 600 images
produced by Brazilian and European photographers that function as a propaganda effort that uses
various modernist aesthetics to represent the inauguration of the future in the present (Jaguaraibe
82 83). Meaning that during the Vargas Era, a rapid period of modernization was carried out by
Brazil s elite through the use of the science of eugenics to bring the country to a social modernity,
which entailed the marginalization of the unwanted slum inhabitants, mostly poor blacks,
prostitutes, and former slaves (LГіpez DurГЎn 3). The idea of perfecting the country through the
exclusion of these marginal inhabitants can be clearly seen in the Obra Getuliana, which presents
an organized progressive future in which they are not portrayed (Lissovsky, Pausas Do Destino:

Extraction of Metals
Extraction of metals
The History of Metals.
Metals have been used by people for many thousands of years. Gold and silver, found as native
metal, were used both as jewellery and as a status symbol nothing new there. These metals were
known in the Stone Age, but gold and silver are too soft to be used as tools.
The first really useful metal to be discovered was bronze. This began the Bronze Age. Bronze was
used extensively for tools and weapons in Asia and Africa from 4,500 B.C. (6,500 years ago) and in
Britain from 2,000 B.C. (4,000 years ago). News of the new material travelled slowly in those days
and it took the Brits 2,500 years to get the message.
Bronze is not an element (like gold and silver) but an alloy (metal mixture) of ... Show more content

The same can be said of metal extraction. Metal extraction can drastically affect the quality of air in
the surrounding areas, what with the high levels of dust and gas in the area. There s also the noise
pollution that it creates, which is affecting the natural habitat of animals. Last, metal extraction
disfigures the landscape.
Now, if companies continually extract metal, the land will forever be disfigured, causing flooding
and soil erosion in the area. It will also cause large scale natural habitat destruction, causing so
many species to be uprooted. There s also the air and water pollution to consider.
Economic Impact of Metal Extraction
It is a fact that mining, extracting, refining, and purifying metal will cost a lot of money. There are
different types of metal, and they need different methods of extraction. Now, the methods of
extracting metal do not come cheap, nor does refining and purifying metal. Not only will you need
special equipment for their extraction, but you will also need other elements as well such as
copper, zinc, mercury, among others, for the purification and refinement processes. Some of these
elements are very harmful and toxic not only to humans and animals but to nature as well,
worsening the environmental impact of metal extraction.
Aside from this, you also have to think of the transportation costs of extracted metal.

Rape Is Not On The Top Of My Safety Concerns

What Turns You On? (b)STI Risk Scale. I have very low risk of receiving an STI from a
potential partner. I am a cautious person in general, especially when it comes to my health. The
only thing I noted as a 4 were the two statements asking about comfortability discussing sex and
STIs with doctors or health professionals and sexual partner. I honestly do not know how I would
feel talking about those issues because I have never had to, but I could imagine it being
awkward for me. Staying Safe from Rape. As I said before, I am a cautious person. Even though
acquaintance rape is the most popular that is harder to prepare for and the exercise lacks in
information. The exercise emphasizes stranger rape. Rape is not on the top of my safety
concerns because I am a male. It is something I will consider when I start dating in the future.
Evaluating Sexually Harassing Behaviors. This verifies how careful and complex social
interactions can be. Luckily, I have filter and I do not spew out any obnoxious thought. It is
important to think from not only your perspective but others. Touching is another thing to be
cautious of, as it can have different interpretations. Both of these I will highly be cautious of in the
future. What Turns You On? I am pretty open to almost all of the activities listed in the exercise.

Philosophy came from two Greek words: Philo (love) and Sophia (wisdom). It was Pythagoras
who coined the term and he was the first to call himself as a lover of wisdom. According to St.
Thomas Aquinas, a theologian and a philosopher who was inspired from the works of Aristotle said
that Philosophy is the science of all things in their ultimate causes. In Modern Period, the
Rationalists believed that reason makes man and it is the most necessary whenever one

This is to recommend continued sponsorship of the Posse ride. In order to maximize the
effectiveness and profit making potential, I propose the following changes in this program 1)
Repeating successful routes. 2) Involvement of HOG members in route selection. 3) Follow up with
Posse participants
30 days after the completion of events. 4) Creating spontaneity during the ride. 5) Increased
participation of employees on the rides. These new initiatives would help us better understand

Reinforcement of the brand leads to more sales and profits. In addition, it provides our dealers to
generate revenue and sell merchandise at stores.
Currently only 1 in 1,000 members took part in 1999 Posse ride. Repeating successful routes
attracts new riders who have heard stories from other HOG members. Using the same route leads
to greater efficiency and builds better relationship with dealers. We could also utilize the
experience of existing riders in ironing out rough patches on existing routes and building new
routes. This would lead to active participation from members in creating new rallies and
increasing participation as well. We need to follow up with Posse participants after the rally as
well, rather than take a survey immediately after the end of the rally, we should get feedback
after 30 days. This would provide us with candid refection and input for improvement with future
rides. In order to negate the effect of overdose of Posse Rides we should add some creative
spontaneity to each event. This would provide the riders with flair of expecting the unexpected. In
order to understand and gel with the customer I recommend increased involvement of employees in
Posse rides. The involvement should not be from outside but they should actually ride with HOG
members and experience the same feeling. This would enable employees to build lasting
relationship and gather feedback from riders.
Through the Posse Ride we can

How The Rate Of That Ethanol Produces Ethanal By Potassium...
This experiment was about determining the rate of that ethanol produces ethanal by potassium
dichromate. The ethanol reacts with chromic acid to produce ethanal, and the rate was measured
using a spectrophotometer.
Equation: 6 H3O(aq) + 3 CH3CH2OH(aq) + 2 H2CrO4(aq) в†’ 3 CH3CHO(aq) + 2Cr2+(aq) + 14
H2O(l)
Second Order Rate Law: Rate = k[ CH3CH2OH][H2CrO4] This second order reaction behaves like
a pseudo first order reaction when one of the two concentrations is much greater than the other. In
this experiment, the concentration of ethanol was so large compared to that of chromic acid that its
change in concentration as the reaction occurred was negligible when compared to the that of
chromic acid, thereby creating a pseudo first order reaction

Tell All Truth But Tell It Slant Poem Analysis
Poetry is defined as writing that formulates a concentrated imaginative awareness of experience
in language chosen and arranged to create a specific emotional response through meaning,
sound, and rhythm (CITE) There are many great poets but one of the most highly regarded is
Emily Dickinson. Dickinson is considered the recluse of Amherst, little did everyone know, she
would turn out to be one of the most influential poets of not only her time but forever. Two of her
poems This is my letter to the world, and Tell all truth but tell it slant both deal with society and
people s emotions. In the poem this is my letter to the world Emily writes about the feeling she has
as she leaves society. Tell all truth but tell it slant is a piece about how the truth is not meant for
everyone. Emily Dickinsonuses poetic devices such as personification, rhymescheme, and metaphor
to accurately convey the unique themes of her pieces.
In Dickinson s poem This is My Letter to the World, she is expressing her reclusiveness towards
the world. What Emily means by this is that she wrote a letter to the world, but the world does
not know who she is since she never leaves her home. She also writes about what nature has
taught her in hopes to teach other people lessons. In the closing of the poem she asks the readers
to not judge her harshly on what she has written. The overall theme of this poem is that if people
were to judge, they should judge by the truth. She does not want to be judged harshly for
separating herself from the world, she just wants to belong. She uses many devices through all of
her poems to help convey the overall theme. In the poem This is My Letter to the World, Dickson
uses the personification of nature, rhyme scheme, and metaphor to show her overall theme.
Within the poem, Dickinson writes, The simple news that Nature told, With tender majesty.
Dickinson is using personification because nature cannot literally speak to her and tell her the basic
truths about life. In this poem, Dickinson communicates with the world, though the message from
Nature. She views nature as her friend, which stresses to the reader that nature is personified.
Dickinson uses slant rhyme within the poem, she also uses

Frederick Douglass Essays
The Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass, an American Slave is an account of Frederick
Douglass life written in a very detached and objective tone. You might find this tone normal for a
historical account of the events of someone s life if not for the fact that the narrative was written by
Frederick Douglass himself. In light of the fact that Douglass wrote his autobiography as a treatise
in support of the abolishmentof slavery, the removed tone was an effective tone. It gave force to his
argument that slavery should be done away with.
Considering the fact that this was written during the height of the abolition movement the novel
had to be effective in order to advance the success of the movement. ... Show more content on

Here Douglass shows that slavery was not a constant source of pain and suffering: I was not old
enough to work in the fields, and there being little else than field work to do, I had a great deal of
leisure time, (Douglass 71.) This is effective in proving his point because it allows him to show the
true horrors of slavery and not be lopsided in his views.
Weber 2
Having an objective also paved the way for Douglass to show the most gruesome and torrid tales
of slave life. Here is where the autobiographical form of the exposition comes in hand, enabling
him to go into the closest of detail of his own experiences as a slave: I had been at my new home
but one week before Mr. Covey gave me a very severe whipping, cutting my back, causing the
blood to run, and raising ridges on my flesh as large as my little finger, (Douglass 101.) Notice
how all he does is detail the incident. He doesn t speak of how this made him feel or what he
wanted to do in response. This neutrality removes him from the picture and lets the sequence of
events speak as loudly as they do for themselves.
Granted the tone changes throughout the book but the overwhelming and most effective tone was
that of objectivity. Showing both sides gives him the opportunity to say that his work was not
partial to abolishment. The in depth description of the whipping was compelling while the notation
of a fair amount of leisure time as

Chesapeake Bay and New England Dbq Essay
The immigrants that settled the colonies of Chesapeake Bay and New England came to the New
World for two different reasons. These differences were noticeable in social structure, economic
outlook, and religious background. As the colonies were organized the differences were becoming
more and more obvious and affected the way the communities prospered. These differences are
evident from both written documents from the colonists and the historical knowledge of this
particular period in time. Although the settlementsof Chesapeake Bay and New Englandcame from

The New England colonists did not come to the New World in search for a quick fortune. They
came for the sole purpose of creating a model society for other settlers who sought a new life.
They believed in creating a prosperous society rather than a few wealthy individuals (DOC A).
Another major difference between the two colonies was their religious views. The New
England colony did not agree with The Church and decided to start their own more pure way of
religion in the New World, hence the name Puritans, this was one of the main reasons they
embarked on a journey to America (DOC D). The freedom of religion was a promised attribute
that England used as part of their propaganda to lure people over to America. The Chesapeake
Bay settlers still followed the way of The Church and did not intend to purify themselves in any
way. As shown in the documents God was more important to the New England colonists than he
was to the Chesapeake Bay colonists. The New England colonists mention how they will
incorporate God into their lives in almost every document that they have written. Contrary to that
the Chesapeake Bay colonists are not forming their lives around religion they are trying to make a
life in the New World for the sole purpose of becoming wealthy and could care less about their
religion. The Chesapeake Bay and the New England colonies displayed many differences. The
major differences became very clear as the settlements continued

Bose s Competitors
When building a home entertainment system, a good sound setup is absolutely essential.
Although there are many easy set up kits available, Bose is the brand to turn to for trusted
quality when it comes to speakers. With a pair of Bose Interaudio 4000 speakers, your home
system is taken to the next level. Make sure to place the speakers at a location a few feet away
from the wall to get the best possible effect. This will emulate theater systems as closely as
possible. Use a Bose Interaudio 4000 speaker in conjunction with a high quality Bose subwoofer to

However, they ve remained a solid, reliable part of many home theater systems. Typically people

  • 3. North Sentinel Island Case Study C. North Sentinel Island has an interesting geographical background and some numerous unusual demographics. North Sentinel Island is located in the Bay of Bengal, and because of that, the geography helped shaped their initial isolationist policies. Due to their location in the Bay of Bengal, the island helps strengthen their isolationist principles. i. Since it is an island, the shore of North Sentinel Island is covered and surrounded by coral reefs. ii. According to Adam Goodheart who obtained a mass communication degree from the University of Maryland, his article published in The American Scholar states that Because it is surrounded by the coral reefs, the place does not have natural harbors for exports or imports, which in led to further isolation from the world (Goodheart). • 5. Style Analysis Of Tim Burton s Corpse Bride And Edward... Style Analysis Essay We do not fear the unknown. We fear what we think about the unknown. Is a quote from Teal Swan. This idea is incorporated into a lot of director s movies, however Tim Burton, a creator of many famous movies, would probably have one of the best understandings of this idea. This is because Burton tends to use ideas about the unknown in many of his films. However, these ideas of fearing the unknown and curiosity of the unknown are especially prominent in Burton s films such as The Corpse Brideand Edward Scissorhands. Burton typically uses techniques such as some sort of misfit protagonist that is different than most people and a judgmental society that treats said protagonist in terrible ways to convey to the audience that society wrongly teaches people to fear the unknown. Burton typically has the misfit protagonist deemed an outcast by their society or the society they enter. For instance, in The Corpse Bride the protagonist, Victor Van Dort, is a sort of clumsy and, quite frankly, normal character. Yet despite how normal Victor is, his society, or more specifically, his parents and soon to be in laws, expect him to be this perfect person and, inevitably, fails to do so at his wedding rehearsal, because of this he is deemed an outcast by his parents and soon to be in laws. Eventually Victor runs away from his town and finds himself in an unknown place. Being in this place made Victor realize that he had no reason to fear the dead in the sort of ... These are some of the controversies I have picked up on throughout my life when those who did not practice the religion brought up Mormons. I ve had two insights into the Mormon religion; one being my trip to the Kansas City temple and another being family friend s with one some might call a hard core Mormon . After many years of these assumptions I finally acted on my curiosity when I was granted the opportunity after a friend invited me to join them for their service. • 8. The Constitution And The Federal Government The Constitution was written so that the Federal Government would actually have some ability to govern unlike it had in the previous Articles of Confederation. They wished to establish a more organized justice system which under the Articles, was the States responsibility and could vary greatly from place to place. They also wanted the ability to raise an Army, to help protect its citizen s lives and liberties. After The Revolution many of the founding fathers feared a large government and preferred smaller and more localized forms of government. And with that lead to the Articles of Confederation, the original governing documents, that assembled a very weak and decentralized Federal Government and the States had most of the power. Years later many of the founders did not feel that this was the best form of government, getting the States to assemble and agree on nearly any bill was impossible including funding for the Federal Governments very existence. The Federalists argued the Federal Government was powerless to protect its people without the means or money to raise an Army, they wished for a more universal way of doing things rather than the at times chaos the States were creating. Some other arguments for a Federal Government was there was not a system in place to settle disputes between the states over boundaries and trade, some States charged high taxes on the goods and people from other States. Another argument made by the Federalists was in James Madison s essay ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It was going to be impossible to stay there, but leaving held no attraction for me, either.... The answer came to me with the suddenness of a collision. I would go to work. In fact, she d be pleased to think that I had that much gumption, that much of her in my character. In the offices of the Market Street Railway Company, the receptionist seemed as surprised to see me there as I was surprised to find the interior dingy and the dГ©cor drab. Somehow I had expected waxed surfaces and carpeted floors. If I had met no resistance, I might have decided against working for such a poor mouth looking concern. As it was, I was explained that I had come to see about a job. She asked, was I sent by an agency, and when I replied that I was not, she told me they were only accepting applicants from agencies. • 10. My Daily Life In Everyday Life Books are essential to everyday life. They provide entertainment to the masses. They allow students to learn without teachers. They can contain anything that someone might want to read. Books have shaped my life and made me the person I am today. Just as Sherman Alexie found his calling as a child in books and reading, books taught me things that teachers couldn t and were there for my learning when no one else could be. When I was in kindergarten, I was the only child in my class who didn t know how to read. I had grown up listening to stories, weaved into my imagination by my parents. When I found out that I would be able to read those stories ourselves, I was stunned. Every day in class, I would try my best to learn and catch up with my peers. Day after day I left class feeling more and more hopeless in my attempts. A wrong vowel. A bad pronunciation. A long word. I was nearly ready to give up, when at last, I made a breakthrough. I finished my first book, a thin paperback copy of Dick and Jane. The fact that the book couldn t have been more than five pages was irrelevant, I had tasted the Lotus, and would never go without it again. From that day on, my school and home life were filled with reading. I finished all the Dick and Jane books, so I started reading short picture books. I finished the short picture books, and started reading Curious George. I finished Curious George and started reading novels. The pages sang to me, painted pictures of faraway lands, heroes, and ... • 12. Noun Phrases Essay Noun Phrases in English Truth be told, there are a large number of definitions about phrases. Broadly speaking, Burton Roberts (1986) states that a group of words used as a component in the structure of sentences is called a phrase. According to George Yule (2006), a noun phrase is a phrase in which the main word is a noun functioning as a subject or an object. We can understand the definition of noun phrases more clearly with the following examples : E.g. The man upstair Five little ducks The beautiful vase on the table One of the most significant factors that we should pay attention to noun phrases is that they cannot stand alone as sentences. While the clauses have a verb that can change depending on the time reference , the noun phrases do not. Also, some noun phrases do not include subjects either. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

HIIT has become a widely known form of training that consists of alternating rest and work periods. During the work period, the individual uses about 80 to 95% of their maximum heart rate, whereas the rest period is about 40 to 50% of the person s maximal heart rate (American College of Sports Medicine, 2014). According to the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM), HIIT has become popular because an exercise program can be easily developed and tailored towards individuals of any fitness level and there are many benefits. • 16. The Fat Boy Analysis The Fat Boy by Owen Marshall is a short story that shows how society in this text influences people and also highlights the mob mentality of the community. The plot of the text is that the townsfolk bring into being a fictional personality The Fat Boy , whom they use as a scapegoat for their crimes. Despite knowing the truththe townsfolk blindly follow the mob, The Fat Boy eventually becomes a reminder of the towns folks conscience, therefore, to get rid of the constant reminder they get rid of The Fat Boy. Hence the text also shows how the loss of conscience affects the community negatively as the whole townchoose to turn a blind eye towards the truth. Through the text Marshall reveals to us the tribal nature of small town behaviour or mob mentality which is shown right from the beginning, where the text shows twisted equality as the townsfolk are following each other in the crimes, the crimes becoming greater as the text proceeds: The Fat Boy is scapegoated for thievery followed by arson, murder, domestic violence, and rape. It is the mentality of he did it so why can t I do it too that the townsfolk use as an excuse to continue committing crimes, which is part of our nature as we tend to follow this mentality too, which shows how the mob has influenced members negatively. In the text we realise The Fat Boy is not real is by the way the people describe him The Fat Boy watched the passersby with the Frog like, faintly enquiring look that the faces of fat boys have. • 18. The Major Causes Of British Resistance From The French And... As the oppressive mother country of England and newfound monarch King George III sought to harrow their way out of debt from the French and Indian War, they found the colonists as a way to relieve their financial troubles. By wanting to decrease their financial debt, British Parliament enforced tax burdens and tight regulations such as restriction of civil liberties and military measures on the colonists. Although colonists wanted to separate from Britain due to unfair treatment, there was still a strong bond with the mother country. Therefore colonial resistance was a direct result of British error. British actions in the 1760s and 1770s escalated tensions in North American cities. Parliamentary taxation was undeniably one of the most significant factors encouraging the colonies to rebel in the years leading up to the revolution. The British government desperately needed to pay off the debt from the French and Indian War and attempted to do so, in part, by imposing new taxes. With each attempt, colonial resistance grew. Taxation without representation in Parliament was one of the main reasons for colonial opposition. Although, there were still members of Parliament such as Edmund Burke who understood that it was unjust to govern America without proper representation. Burke stated in a speech to British Parliament, Govern America? As you govern an English town which happens not to be represented in Parliament? Are Gentlemen really serious when they propose this? • 22. Importance Of Teaching And Learning Approaches ADAPT TEACHING AND LEARNING APPROACHES AND RESOURCES, INCLUDING TECHNOLOGIES TO MEET THE INDIVIDUAL NEEDS OF LEARNERS. UNIT 2, 5.6 LITERATURE REVIEW Agreeing with Littlemore and Oakey (2004), we founds that teachers are sometimes overwhelmed by the technology and do not seriously think about how it might be usefully applied (Davies, 2009). Indeed, language learning and teaching approach should be pedagogy driven and learning based, which is more rigid and emphasises on the needs of learners with the aid of technology resource and tools. Contrarily, technology driven approach which attempts to formulate a pedagogy based on the cutting edge advantages of a new device, should be abandoned. If a language teaching or learning project is driven by the fashionable technology, it might pose the danger to the learners as well as the teachers disappearing over the horizon of SLA pedagogy. Number of research reveal that learners dislike reading large amount of text on the screen, such as Wiki, and they often prefer to print out the documents for reading. For instance, Boulton s (2005) paper indicated that less than 20% of his students are happy with on screen reading. Anderson (2003) reports that metacognitive online reading strategies plays important role in online L2 reading. Despite of input issue, barrier of producing written output using ICT tools has also been noticed. Mishan (2004) points out that it might sometimes be challenging for learners to compose on screen. • 23. A Separate Peace Essay As Carl Jung once stated, Man s task is to become conscious of the contents that press upward from the unconscious . To reach a peaceful reconciliation, one must learn to embrace two distinct elements of their personality, the Persona and Shadow. Likewise, in the bildungsroman, A Separate Peace, author John Knowles depicts the common rivalry between young adolescents, and how they struggle to accept their identity and the relationship between their unconscious self. Gene, a Devon High student, becomes best friends with Finny and grows jealous of his ostensibly flawless friend, causing him to make a life changing decision. His struggles to reach an inner balance between his Persona and Shadow lead to the ultimate death of Finny. Gene s transformation involves the changes of his mask and Shadow from guilt and jealousyto pride and tolerance which results in the later acceptance of the light and dark parts of himself, allowing him to truly reach adulthood and a state of peace. Essentially, Gene s conflict begins as he develops feelings of envy towards Finny s outgoing personality and appealing charisma, which causes him to hide behind a persona in the one sided rivalry he has with Finny. When Gene flunks a test for the first time, he finds an excuse to justify his failure, concluding that Finny purposely interrupted his studies by inviting him to the beach. • 24. Pollution In Water Pollution Pollution is a major problem in water systems all around the world and in our creek. In our area, eutrophication and acid rain are the two main pollution problems in our area. Eutrophication can be caused by sewage treatment plants, home sewage systems, and farm fertilizer runoff. Acid rain can be caused by the burning of fossil fuel. Eutrophicationcauses plants to die and when the plants die, the bacteria from the dead plants use up the oxygenfrom the water, which causes the fish to die. Photo Credits to Alex Cathers My hypothesis is if the creek has higher levels of phosphates and nitrates, and lower level of dissolved oxygen, then the creek will be polluted. The levels of nitrates and phosphates should be near 0 ppm for the creek to not be considered polluted. The dissolved oxygen levels should be higher if the creek is healthy. Dissolved oxygen is essentially the amount of oxygen in the water. For the acid rain test, we put a solution on different rocks to see if the acid dissolved the rocks. The nitrate and phosphate test involved getting a specific amount of creek water, putting different solutions in the water, and matching the solutions with other vials to determine the state of the water.Photo Credits to Alex Cathers There were 487 macroinvertebrates that were found in total at the creek. 308 were pollution sensitive, 101 were somewhat pollution tolerant, and 78 were pollution tolerant. In the movie The Birdcage, he uses a long lens glamour style whereas, in Children of Men he takes on his famous natural lighting style with a handheld camera. What s unique about these two styles is that he manages to show that the subjects/actors are the main focus and they standout and look amazing whether natural or artificial, he produces natural looking shots. Imperialism defined as per Cambridge dictionary as a system or a situation where one country with superior power used force or influence to rule and exploit another country (Cambridge dictionary, 2017). Long term growth in vehicle production and the positive outlook for vehicle sales over the next five years have made automotive one of the leading sectors for M A. We expect deal activity in the automotive sector to remain strong during 2016, but to taper off from 2015 levels. The biggest factor that will suppress deal activity this year is the impending interest rate increase by the Federal Reserve. Other deal squelching factors include geopolitical instability (e.g., in the Middle East and Russia) and the relative scarcity of companies that can be purchased at bargain prices. Nine survey questions will use the Likert scales which come in many variations from strongly disagree to strongly agree. As show in the chart below, the currency gained 20.48% and 13.60%, respectively, against the Japanese Yen (JPY) and the Australian Dollar (AUD). Needless to say, gaining against the US Dollar (USD) was as uncommon thought last year as it is this year, in view of the Fed s stimulus taper and imminent interest rate hike. So barring Greenback, below are a few arguments supporting the bullish case for Kiwi. Faster growth There s no denying that New Zealand s economy was nothing short of impressive last year. The economy held out against the worst drought in decades, fiscal consolidation, a contamination scare, a strong currency and, to top it all, a slowdown in its two most important trade partners, viz. Australia and China. Although each of these factors posed a significant risk to growth, the resilient economy overcame these challenges and is growing at its fastest pace since 2009. The Reserve Bank of New Zealand (RBNZ) sees gross domestic product expanding by 3.3% in the fiscal year that ended March 31, faster than its December projection of 2.7%. The economy is then expected to expand 3.2% in the year through March 2015. The growth has been primarily driven by recovery in various important industries of New Zealand. The president of Taggart Transcontinental, James, did not inquire in any means about this schedule, and was abruptly awoken in the middle of the night by Dr. Morrison himself through an angry telegram. James was highly intimidated by Morrison s words and called Locey to tell him to fix the situation immediately as well as to tell Locey that he was never called in the night when Dagny was in control. These words from James support, once again, the concept that he relies on more competent individuals of society, and how he does not take responsibility when it is necessary. The words that James said to Locey also imply that the success of Taggart Transcontinental was completely due to Dagny, and how she ran the company. This point is magnified in the following actions taken by James once he finds out that the Taggart Tunnel has collapsed, as well as the explosion between the diesel engine train and the Army Munitions killed everyone on board. James immediately contacts Dagny though her assistant Eddie, and then he destroys Dagny s resignation letter once she arrives at Taggart Transcontinental. Tell All Truth But Tell It Slant Poem Analysis Poetry is defined as writing that formulates a concentrated imaginative awareness of experience in language chosen and arranged to create a specific emotional response through meaning, sound, and rhythm (CITE) There are many great poets but one of the most highly regarded is Emily Dickinson. Dickinson is considered the recluse of Amherst, little did everyone know, she would turn out to be one of the most influential poets of not only her time but forever. Two of her poems This is my letter to the world, and Tell all truth but tell it slant both deal with society and people s emotions. In the poem this is my letter to the world Emily writes about the feeling she has as she leaves society. Tell all truth but tell it slant is a piece about how the truth is not meant for everyone. Emily Dickinsonuses poetic devices such as personification, rhymescheme, and metaphor to accurately convey the unique themes of her pieces. In Dickinson s poem This is My Letter to the World, she is expressing her reclusiveness towards the world. What Emily means by this is that she wrote a letter to the world, but the world does not know who she is since she never leaves her home. She also writes about what nature has taught her in hopes to teach other people lessons. In the closing of the poem she asks the readers to not judge her harshly on what she has written. The overall theme of this poem is that if people were to judge, they should judge by the truth. She does not want to be judged harshly for separating herself from the world, she just wants to belong. She uses many devices through all of her poems to help convey the overall theme. In the poem This is My Letter to the World, Dickson uses the personification of nature, rhyme scheme, and metaphor to show her overall theme. Within the poem, Dickinson writes, The simple news that Nature told, With tender majesty. Dickinson is using personification because nature cannot literally speak to her and tell her the basic truths about life. You might find this tone normal for a historical account of the events of someone s life if not for the fact that the narrative was written by Frederick Douglass himself. In light of the fact that Douglass wrote his autobiography as a treatise in support of the abolishmentof slavery, the removed tone was an effective tone. It gave force to his argument that slavery should be done away with. This is effective in proving his point because it allows him to show the true horrors of slavery and not be lopsided in his views. Weber 2 Having an objective also paved the way for Douglass to show the most gruesome and torrid tales of slave life. Here is where the autobiographical form of the exposition comes in hand, enabling him to go into the closest of detail of his own experiences as a slave: I had been at my new home but one week before Mr. Covey gave me a very severe whipping, cutting my back, causing the blood to run, and raising ridges on my flesh as large as my little finger, (Douglass 101.) Notice how all he does is detail the incident. He doesn t speak of how this made him feel or what he wanted to do in response. This neutrality removes him from the picture and lets the sequence of events speak as loudly as they do for themselves. The New England colony did not agree with The Church and decided to start their own more pure way of religion in the New World, hence the name Puritans, this was one of the main reasons they embarked on a journey to America (DOC D).
