George Orwell s Use of Language Techniques to Represent...
George Orwell s Use of Language Techniques to Represent Power in Animal Farm Power corrupts,
but absolute power corrupts absolutely ; and this is eloquently proved in George Orwell s novel
Animal Farm. In this satirical fable, Orwell uses his allegorical farm to candidly illustrate the
corruptive nature of power and to symbolise the communist system in the microcosm of a farmyard
barn. George Orwell was the pen name of Eric Blair, a British political novelist and essayist. He was
also a socialist but he criticized the right (fascists and capitalists) as freely as he criticized the left
(anarchists, socialists, and communists). Orwell used his writings mainly to expose the negative
effects that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
At first, Animal Farm prospers. The pig leaders, Snowball and Napoleon assume the administration of
the farm and as Snowball tries to teach the animals to read, Napoleon takes a group of young puppies
to educate them in the principles of Animalism. Mr. Jones reappears to take back the farm but the
animals defeat him again. As time passes however, Snowball and Napoleon increasingly quarrel over
the future of the farm and they begin to struggle with each other for power and influence among the
other animals. These disagreements lead up to a vote in order to build Snowball s proposal for a
windmill, which Napoleon was opposed to. Then suddenly, nine enormous dogs the puppies that
Napoleon had taken away to educate burst into the barn and chased Snowball away. Napoleon then
declares himself leader. The initial intentions of the ideals of equality and justice were unsuccessful
and the Animal Farm ended up being a dictatorship of pigs, who were the cleverest, and most idle of
the animals. As years pass, the pigs become more and more like human beings walking upright,
carrying whips, and wearing clothes. Eventually even the seven commandments were reduced a single
principle of Animalism reading, all animals are equal, but some animals are more equal than others.

Death In John Steinbeck s Of Mice And Men
How does Steinbeck present the theme of death in Of Mice and Men ?
In Steinbeck s Of Mice and Men , the book presented presents the reader with two deaths. The first
one is Candy s dog, which has already been with him since he was young, and the other is Lennie,
who is George s best friend, his companion, they travel together and take care of each other. They both
die for a different reason, Candy s dog dies because of Carlson s dislike towards the dog, This resulted
in the shooting of the dog. Lennie dies because George wants to save Lennie, because of love.
However, despite the different motivations for the two deaths, in many ways they are parallel. First of
all, for the death of Candy s dog. It was already old because he s been with Candy Since he was
young. The dog was not feeling good and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Candy has a feeling of loneliness, for he has only George and his dog. However, Carlson shot his dog,
he can now only rely on George to be less lonely. After the death of his dog, he is encouraged to join
George and Lennie s plan, because he want somebody to be with, even he will be the one who
contribute most in the plan. He also regrets for doing something wrong, I shouldn t let no stranger
shoot my dog. He regretted it because he doesn t know how Carlson Killed kills his dog, whether it is
in a painful way or a quick one.
Furthermore, it is a parallel to the death of Lennie, George has to kill Lennie on his own, so as to
make sure thatCurley will not lock Lennie up in a cage and torture him.As for the death of Lennie,
George saves Lennie by killing him. As mentioned above, Curley may lock him up and torture Lennie
to take revenge for his hand and his wife. This ain t no good , as their leader Slim said. Slim knew that
Curley may torture Lennie, so he told George. This is why George chose to kill Lennie and not let
Curley do it which would be a huge mistake and put George in a serious

A Story Of Success And Its Impact On The World
I like to visualize our presence in this universe as threads, running from one end to another, each of
the same length as that of our lives. To picture a person s lifetime, I see thousands of these multi
colored threads against a white background. For most part, a thread runs straight, unfettered but
sometimes another thread crosses this one, defining a point in time when a person becomes associated
with an event or is affected by its consequences. Today, I want to talk about two such events that
crisscrossed a hundred other threads. Both of these events catapulted my understanding of large scale
programs and the transformational impact they have on the people they serve. One is a story of
success and the other, failure. It was one ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Like the autonomic nervous system of a giant, our setup included over twenty five thousand network
switches and thousands of miles of cabling, which would soon carry VoIP (Voice Over IP) phone data
from over 6,000 telephones and digitized security video from over 20,000 CCTV cameras. Baggage
handling systems, which were the largest in the world, with 90km long conveyor belts, would talk to
each other, through our networks, to find the most efficient path to move belongings. Even passenger
preferences and on demand movies would be wirelessly transmitted to parked aircrafts, via our
networks. My job was to ensure that this network was delivered. Using a team of 20 engineers, and
over 40 technicians, we approached the work with a strong plan. The next few months saw the
network switches being installed and the cabling work completed. The backbone was ready for the
various vendors to plug their systems into but that was where we hit a roadblock. There were no less
than 200 vendors, represented by over 100 nationalities and until this point each team had worked in
isolation, chipping away at their share of the work, giving life to their part of this gargantuan machine.
When all these teams were suddenly brought together, to interface with each other s systems, human
interactions became as complex as they could get. Meanwhile, the DGCA (Directorate

Character Analysis Of King Henry V
King Henry is one of the most successful kings of England. He brought two warring kingdoms
crashing together, and melded them into one united country. Henry is an extremely interesting and
dynamic character. From a young age he associated with criminals, drunkards, and other lowly
citizens. When his father was on his deathbed, he requested that Henry stopped being a criminal, and
begin acting like a king. Henry made that oath, and stayed true to it until his dying day.
As a king, he became a king after being a criminal. He went from a criminal prince to an upstanding
kind king who understands justice and follows the righteous path for the rest of his life. It is such a
crazy transformation; from criminal hiding crimes from the king to ... Show more content on

Directly after that event, he judges three people to death for attempting treason. Reasons like this are
the reason Henry progresses the story as the main protagonist. He is the main driving force that is
pushing the plotline forward. Every time he is in a scene he enhances it, and brings the act more color
and flare.
While Henry does adapt his ways often, he doesn t always change. One of the examples of him
sticking to old ways is how he is a religious man. Early in the story, he listens to the Archbishop, and
starts this war because of him. The Archbishop is the prophet of god, which correlates with being a
pious person. The English win the Battle of Agincourt in an astounding manner; only losing less than
30 men while the French lost 10,000 men. He decides the reason behind them winning the battle God
s will. Another example of this is his choice to end people s lives.
Henry V is a man of God, which is again shown on the eve of the Battle of Agincourt when he is
talking with his men. One of his men wishes they had more men fighting, yet Henry wishes the
opposite. If God has chosen them to lose this battle then more men would die. On the
other hand, if God had chosen them to win, extra men wouldn t be needed, so they can use those extra
men to suppress the Scottish rebellion.
Henry doesn t blame always blame the innocents for others crimes either. There is an example in
which Henry V has no quarrel with the innocent. The time arrives when

Rachel Carson Silent Spring Summary
Rachel Carson s Silent Spring tries to convey the message that humans alter the environment by using
chemicals that enter water, food, soil, and many species, causing effects related to many concepts in
environmental science. Pesticides can get into water, one of our most precious sources, which causes
many effects. They can get into groundwater, which Carson states on page 40 that the majority of
them most likely come from agricultural uses on farmlands, which are brought to the water by rain
(Carson, 1962). Carson on pages 46 through 50 talks about the effects Clear Lake has received from
DDD (Carson, 1962). Clear Lake was surveyed to calculate how much of the insecticide could be

tried explaining once again. A lower salary? What even is this mess? Nothing he s say is making since
and why should I consider taking a lower salary.... I want explanations. You can t just come and try to
take what I build and created away from me, Walt defended. Scott tried to reason with me again, We re
offering you a chance to keep everything, all you have to do is agree to receiving lower pay. No, there
has to be a reason why you re doing this, I questioned not listening to what Scott was trying to
explain. We told you this before, Oswald is currently riding high and you have the upper hand in all of
this, but currently you have hired away all of your employees so this is your only decision, Scott
explained. Oh I see now, they just want a part of all the hard work I did. But, why should I let them?

Why Is Harriet Tubman Important
Harriet Tubman Harriet Tubman was a very important part of black history she was a conductor for
the Underground Railroad a supporter of women rights movement and she was a spy, cook, and nurse
in the civil war. Harriet Tubman s beginning Harriet Tubman was born a slave between 1815 and 1825
no one knew her exact age cause plantation owners did not keep records of slaves. She was born on a
plantation on the eastern shore of maryland.Araminta (minty) Ross was her birth name that her mom
gave her it wasn t till later that she changed her name to Harriet which came from her mom s first
name and then later took her husband s last name Tubman. As a young girl Harriet would get sold
from her owner alot but would always come back because she would always act up and be forced to
be sent back to her old plantation. One day Harriet witnessed a runaway slave running thru the fields

The Five Most Powerful Pro Life Argument Analysis
This weekend I watched a video titled The Five Most Powerful Pro Life Arguments posted by user
Take Five Nation. The five claims presented were that 1) supply doesn t meet demand for adoption, 2)
life begins at conception, 3) abortion compromises women s health by increasing chances of
developing breast cancer, 4) medicine proves that a fetus is a person, and 5) abortion contradicts the
basic moral principle of preserving life. After carefully evaluating each argument, I found some to be
sound and some to be inarguably invalid.
The first argument was that if there are couples waiting to adopt, and abortion takes away the chance
for a couple to have a child, then all women should choose adoption in lieu of abortion. Though this
argument seems valid enough, it is based largely on rhetoric alone. To claim that adoption is always a
better option than abortion suggests that simply not wanting a child is the only reason that women ever
choose to have an abortion. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is the only argument I found to be entirely false and, therefore, unacceptable. Several studies
have debunked this theory time and time again. In fact, statistically speaking, a woman is technically
at an increased risk for breast cancer after completing a term pregnancy
Another claim of theirs was the classic life begins at conception argument. That is to say that if life
begins at conception, and ending a life is immoral, then abortion is immoral. Though it is valid, the
claim that ending a life is immoral is false, rendering the argument not sound. If ending a life were
immoral, then that means anything from eating (since all food was once a living plant or animal), to
killing someone in self defense is inherently wrong. With this same logic, their claim that abortion
contradicts the basic moral principle of preserving life is also

born October 27, 1858 in New York City to Theodore Roosevelt Sr. and Martha Bulloch. Theodore
was also known as Teedie or Teddy. Due to his continuing battle with health issues, which started at
birth, Roosevelt was homeschooled along with his siblings. The family house also had a gymnasium
where he lifted weights and boxed to help him gain strength. Despite what appeared to be a sickly and

They were the first American troops ever sent overseas, arriving at the southeastern end of Cuba on
June 22, 1898. Roosevelt would go on to lead the group to victory, but sadly many soldiers would die
due to yellow fever, lack of food and supplies and unsanitary camps. Roosevelt would be remembered
for the Round Robin letter he sent asking for the U.S. troops to be removed from Cuba. After the
soldiers were brought home, Americans called Roosevelt a national hero for bringing them home
safely.2 Roosevelt would be called a war hero and receive a nomination for the Medal of Honor. He
was elected as governor of New York in 1898.1 The Republican political machine in New York
supported Roosevelt for governor. However, once he was elected governor, it was clear to them that he
had no interest in listening to their ideas or following their ways. This would lead Roosevelt into
becoming the running mate for McKinley in the presidential election, in hopes of preventing a second
governor term for the once loved war hero. McKinley would go on to win the election and Roosevelt
would become the Vice President, but this was short lived. On September 6, 1901 McKinley was
tragically shot and killed. Roosevelt would now become the 26th president and the youngest president
in the nation s history at age 42. Under his first term as president Roosevelt would have many

Impact Of The Spanish Empires On The Aztecs
Aliki Daviotis
Paper #2
December 2nd, 2017
Extending along the valley of Mexico, with Tenochtitlan as its capital; the Aztec Empire resided. The
Aztecs had significant wealth from trading and heavy payments of tribute from the conquered natives.
From the years 1200 1520, the Aztecs prospered and expanded their empire immensely. However, all
of this was going to change when the Spanish landed on the Yucatan Peninsula in 1519. Following
Christopher Columbus foundation of permanent settlement in the Caribbean, the Spanish were seeking
conquest, expedition and colonization of new territory. Although there were multiple factors that
contributed to the remarkable victory by the Spanish in the sixteenth century such as religion; it was
the indigenous alliances, technological superiority, and disease that was most impactful. The Spanish
conquistadors were not your typical farmers or craftsmen they were soldiers, travelers, and
mercenaries in search of wealth. In their quests for fortune and land, they invaded and enslaved native
communities and looted gold, silver, and other treasures that were up for grabs. The two prosperous
conquests were those of the Aztec empire in Mexico by Hernan Cortes and the Inca empire in Peru by
Francisco Pizarro. They both had unpretentious forces that were far outnumbered by the warriors of
the empires they conquered. A vital element of their success was their progressed weaponry and
durable armor. Spanish conquistadors

Anabolic Steroids Have On The Body
Anabolic androgenic steroids are a synthetic version of testosterone which one injects into the body.
There are many different types of steroids however the most commonly abused are stimulants, HGH

testosterone many athletes, especially bodybuilders, take steroids to increase lean muscle mass,

Anabolic androgenic steroids play an important role in the pharmaceutical industry and have many
beneficial effects on sick patients. According to the Parssinen and Seppala the authors of the article
Steroid Use and Long Term Health Risks in Former Athletes they state that Anabolic steroids and
testosterone are effective and well tolerated pharmaceutical agents when administered for proper
medical indications such as androgen replacement therapy, osteoporosis, aplastic anemia, and cancer.
(Parssinen, Seppala, pg. 1). The issue is that the abuse of steroids have increased within athletes and
many doctors are concerned of the adverse effects that it will have.
Many studies have been conducted over the past few decades and have shown the harmful effects that
steroids can have on an athlete s body. In the article Steroids in Combat Sports: Adverse effects on

stoppage of bone growth resulting in growth retardation which is irreversible, increase risk of muscle

What Is The Turning Point Of 12 Angry Men
Twelve Angry Men is a very good movie and had a lot of ups and downs throughout the movie. Yes, I
think it took a great deal of courage for Fonda to vote not guilty. First, everyone thought he was guilty
without discussing and just jumping to a conclusion. Fonda actually wanted to give some thought to it
and discuss why the kid deserved a chance and why he might not be guilty. Also, the mood in the
room was very dark when all the jurors got into the room one guy just wanted to go the baseball game,
so he just wanted the kid to be guilty so he could get out of there. Plus the fan wouldn t work at first so
all of them were hot and were ready to get out of there, so I think they just wanted the kid to be guilty.

committed to protect Estonia, by fighting along side Hitler s German Army. My grandma Viive, Aunt
Ilvi, and their mother, known as Ema in Estonian, landed in Germany and were forced to live in
Displaced Persons Camps for seven years. Unsure of their future, they boarded a ship and sailed to the
United States of America. The three girls, along with other Estonians, had no choice but to begin a
new life far different than they had ever known. All three of the Baltic countries, Estonia, Latvia, and
Lithuania, lost their freedom and were annexed into the Eastern Block of the Soviet Socialist Republic
(U.S.S.R.). The people who remained suffered mass repression under Stalin s Soviet rule. As a result,
tens of thousands of Estonians experienced deportation or death. The ones able to escape, like my
grandma, were unable to return, or they would be killed as well.

Essay on The Theme of Change in Madame Bovary
The Theme of Change in Madame Bovary
Change is a central theme in the novel Madame Bovary, by Gustave Flaubert, and is key to
understanding the character of Emma Bovary. Through parallel events the reader comes to realize that
Emma s need for change is the result of the influence her early life had upon her. At the convent
Emma is left to develop into an extreme romantic with high hopes for excitement and dreams of
sensuous pleasures that will never be fulfilled. Thus, when life refuses to conform to her romantic
notions Emma alternates between various activities in her constant search for a way to consummate
her romantic longings.
As a young girl from the country Emma is placed into a convent in the city. Here ... Show more

However, none of these are enough for Emma. With each occupation she takes up she soon becomes
bored and rejects one activity for another. Emma does not understand that she is a middle class
woman, in a middle class existence and that no amount of hope will result in the fulfillment of her
dreams. Instead of coming to the realization that fantasy is fantasy and reality is life she fritters away
her time in daydreaming of another life, waiting for something to happen. When Leon leaves for Paris,
Emma, left in the dull town of Yonnville, buys a plan of Paris, and moving the tip of her finger on the
map, she would wander about the capital. She subscribes to Parisian magazines searching in their
writings for vicarious satisfaction of her own desires. If she is not able to change her reality Emma is
left to the imagination of her mind to conjure up a new and exciting life. In a constant search for the
rare and expensive things of life Emma misses the obvious and simple pleasures that are hers to enjoy.
Even the secret and sensual pleasures of adultery do not satisfy Emma. No man can possibly live up to
her ideal lover. As Flaubert so cleverly states, Emma does not understand that one must not touch
idols; the gilt rubs off on one s hands. What Emma wants out of her affairs and life in

Who Leaves A Sapphire Lying On The Ground Essay
Who leaves a sapphire just lying on the ground?
I bent over to pick up the twinkling gem. It was large, easily the size of a quarter, so it must be
expensive. I was no gemologist, but I did know that the larger the gem, the more pricey it was. I rolled
it around in my fingers, letting the light from the street lamps catch in all of its facets.
Beautiful. I breathe. The dark blue of the sapphire almost seemed velvety, like the night sky. Too bad
there weren t any specs of silver in the gem. Then it would really resemble the night sky.
I sigh, a deep ache forming in my chest. The memory of a country nightside still burned fresh in my
mind, as it wasn t long ago that I could marvel at the beauty of the night sky where I could actually see
it. Those days are gone now, at least for the time being.
I ll return it to the police tomorrow. Pocketing the jewel, I finished my walk back home.
The city where I now live is nice, if you like air pollution and noise keeping you up all night, that is.
Everyone is always saying that I ll get used to it everyone else already has but I haven t. Not yet.
I stared up at the dark sky. It was suffocating, like a heavy blanket with no promise of being lifted.
Nothing like my old home where the full moon was so bright, I could see almost as well as I can at
sunset. There were always places to explore in the woods. Bridges to cross and discovering new
surprises from nature used to be my life. Now, it s just pale buildings, pale

College Education Is Not Worth It
Americans today tend to believe that once graduating High School, college is redundant. On the one
hand, some argue that college education is not worth it. From this perspective, college is expensive
and students will be in an enormous amount of debt. Though I concede that college is expensive, I still
maintain that students should go to college once graduating high school. My own view is that college
is a must after high school. Although, our society believes college is too expensive therefore, not
necessary, on the other hand college education gives us a personal development, higher income and
more job opportunities.
People who argue that college is worth it contend that college graduates have higher employment

College debt can be a problem when going to college although, the debt can be worth it when the
outcome can be worth the income with a college degree. On average, a college graduate with a
bachelor s degree earned $30,000 more per year than a high school graduate. The median income for
families headed by a bachelor s degree holder was $100,096 in 2011 more than double than that for a
family headed by a high school graduate (College). Having a college degrees can increase salary. The
opposition also says that loans from college force students to delay in life experiences. Believe it or

Relationship Between Student And Teacher In Samuel...
The essay Look at Your Fish by Samuel Scudder, portrayed how the relationship between student and
teacher can significantly be something great and help a student in their field of learning. The
personality of his teacher helped him to keep learning and be successful in his field, thus allowed me
to connect my experiences with past teachers and how similar the messages we gained through our
teachers are alike and made us progressive. Scudder s professor presented him with a difficult
assignment which required him to only examine a fish using only his eyes. He came back to his
professor many times, believing he found new discoveries when really his professor crushed his hopes
and repeatedly told him to look upon it again. After some time pondering over the fish, the influence
has extended to the details of every subsequent study (Scudder 497). The lesson and teacher affected
Scudder s study so much that the lesson he learned leaked into everything else he studied in his field.
The lesson of always looking for more details than you think exist and reading more of what s in

Buddhist Meditation Practice Essay
Over this past year I have been involved in a buddhist meditation practice, I have been through stages
of resisting, doubting, and now more accepting this practice. The buddhist meditation practice I
participated in is a controversial religion in Taiwan. Even though the religion has almost a hundred
thousand followers including celebrities and business leaders, the religion itself is still being judged by
others due to its beliefs. The leader himself, Miao Chan, used to be a stuntman and established the
religion twenty years ago. Few years later, he claimed that he has attained full Buddhahood just like
Buddha did 2600 years ago. The practice consists of meditation and buddhism learning. On weekdays,
followers attend small sessions of meditation and learn about buddhism. On Sundays, followers go to
a stadium and meditate with Miao Chan for two hours. My mother joined the religious group one and
a half year ago and invited me to meditate with her. I was persuaded to join the group and hated it at
first. I always heard that meditation is a healthy exercise for people, so when my mother started doing
it I was really happy for her. Then it all changed once I joined her. I realized that there was not just
meditations, we were also asked to pray to Master Miao Chan. Master Miao Chan was not like any
monk I see in other buddhist group, he is relatively young and has a wife that attends all the Sunday
meditation session with him. To me, bowing down to a man that claims himself

segments to evaluate any instability or dysfunctions. I would check first CPR stenosis, then
Zygapophyseal joint problems using Revel s criteria, especially absence of pain by cough/sneezing; no
pain when the patient is rising from body flexion to extension position, and no pain by extension
rotation criteria s would rule out facet problems.
Tests like Slump, PA springing test, SLR, Crossed SLR, passive lumbar extension and prone spine
instability tests, active lumbar repeated movements test would help me to rule out the LS pathologies.

Altogether using cluster of findings including provocation testing, pain location, palpation, strength

There are new tests and measures in the monolith that I will definitely like to add to my evaluation for
SIJ. The integrate mobility tests; stork test, lumbo pelvis rhythm, sacral and Ilium motion evaluations,
I did not use in the past. Measuring spine, Ilium, sacrum, hip motion and movement patterns trough
palpation and observation, I believe, would add value on my evaluation. Also, McGill s endurance
tests (core ratio) are new for me to use with PGP patients. But I can see the correlation pelvic pain and
the strength level of the abdominals.
Overall, it is difficult to evaluate and diagnose pelvic joint dysfunction. The problem is that there is no
accepted reference standard for SIJ movement dysfunction. The anatomy of functional pelvic girdle,
load transfer system, and structural relationship and the pattern of intra pelvic motion during stance
and swing phase are important in evaluation a SIJ patient as their pain and

Theories Of John Stuart Mill
John Stuart Mill can be recognized as an influential English philosopher of his time. He strongly
believed in the concept of freedom of speech and choice, without the censorship that laws and legal
constitution bring. In other terms Mill s approach states that democracy is the only way we can
flourish if we let our ideas surface. This paper will be centered around John Stuart Mill s theory of
liberal democracy. This paper will be examining five different authors that have been inspired by Mills
theoretical ideas.
Su, H. C. (2009). Is social justice for or against liberty? the philosophical foundations of mill and
Hayek s theory of liberty. Review of Austrian Economics, 22(4), 387 414. For this scholarly article
author, Huei Su compares two philosophers Mills and Hayek s theory of liberty. The author argues that
the the similarities in the economic theories of Mill and Hayek s main similarities between their
theories are actually based on different rationales . The author focused on two particular ideals, liberty,
and justice. From Mill s side he focused on liberty; how Mills believed that social justice aids in
obtaining real freedom. While Hayek theory on liberty defers, however, Hayek supports his theory
with his concept of rules and law. The author states that in regards to Mill, social justice and individual
liberty can be achieved by utilitarianism only through various secondary principles of justice, rather
than through the single first principle of

Casino Gambling Argumentative Essay
I don t gamble because winning a hundred dollars doesn t give me great pleasure, But losing a
hundred dollars pisses me off (Alex Trebek). I am here to tell you why Casino Gambling is such a big
problem in this country and why it should be stopped. How does not just affect people in a way that
can destroy any type of life they have built up, to how it hurts the people that just love around casinos
The interesting thing about this is that Gambling was illegal until around the 80 s. Today, casino
gambling is legal in 23 states. Of those states most of these casinos aren t the Grand Style Las Vegas
casinos where people can stay the night and see a show. They are small where the only form of
entertainment is throwing your money away. (Frum,2013) Due to this, it is really easy for someone to

This statement is false. In 1978 New Jersey allowed Atlantic City to build up casinos to help revive
their fading economy. At first, there was a little raise in the economy and more jobs were being

that goes into a casino, stays in a casino. The rest of the profits that go into taxes are spent on helping
the community after the negative side effects of creating a casino. (Newburger, 2009) According to the
National Association of Realtors, communities within 10 miles of a casino show double the rate of
crime, poverty, and other financial distress. In research done by Ph.D Harriet Newburger, in 1999 the
city s poverty rate was 23.6% compared to the national average of 11.3%. It was 12.9% in 2005 while
the national average was 5.8%. Even now, the rate is still higher that the rate was in 1978 when
gambling was made legal.

Free trade is the act of exchanging goods or services between countries for minimal tariffs or fees.
Between countries, this is a method of exchange that is gaining more and more popularity. By
importing and exporting for low fees, free trade is an efficient way to cover up weaknesses in the
country and gain on strengths. Free trade is a very controversial topic that is viewed upon differently

losses or low employment in their country. Many countries also embrace it and believe it helps create

The comparative advantage for computers, then, would go to Japan because they are more efficient at
making them. They produce more computers and give up less than Canada does.
Because Japan has the comparative advantage in producing computers in that example, free trade
would maximize both country s production by having Japan specialize in producing computers and
Canada specialize in producing cars. Then, both countries could trade the products they specialize in
for the other, at a fair rate to be determined separately. Without free trade, each country had a bigger
limit on what good they could produce. With trade, both countries still have a limit to what the
countries can produce, but since they are trading what they are best at producing, they are maximizing
the total numbers of goods in the country. Thus by trade at a fair, un taxed rate, they are capable of
having more goods and services in their country and any given time. Both countries are able to
produce the best they can and thus from trade, they receive the most of the other good as they possibly
can. This is known as the law of comparative advantage (Mankiw, Kneebone, McKenzie Rowe 55).
In Canada, the law of comparative advantage produces enormous benefits for both consumers and
producers. First, by establishing trade connections with other countries, it allows Canada to specialize
in producing what it is best in producing. No longer does

The Development of Fast Food
The development of fast food was revolutionary; however, this revolution was corrupted by big
business and the desire to maximize profit. With fast food as a staple for society, due to its
convenience, the consumer fails to realize what is inside the burger they are eating. The customers are
eating foods which are filled with additives such as cellulose and L cysteine. Additives are good for
the bottom line, but bad for the well being of the consumer. Cost effective additives may be justifiable
from a businessman s perspective, but what about the consumer? Cellulose, better known as wood
pulp, doesn t come to mind as millions of uninformed customers chow down on their McNuggets.
This additive is not simply pieces of tree bark cleverly hidden within fast food. Instead, it is a paste or
powder (FoodBabe). Wood pulp is added to fast foods because of its caloric value of zero. With the
absence of calories, food containing cellulose provides no nutritional value besides giving consumers
that satisfying, full feeling. According to the FDA, cellulose consumption by humans, regardless of
the amount, has no effect other than providing dietary bulk, reducing nutritive value of such food
stuffs and possibly exerting a laxative effect (FDA). Many abusers of this filler include McDonalds,
Taco Bell, Jack in the Box, Wendy s, Arby s, and Sonic. In this caloric conscious world, is it really the
company s fault for filling products with additives which have little caloric value, or

Hamlet And Laertes Similarities
The historic play Hamlet by William Shakespeare is the longest play with 4,042 lines and is the
second most filmed story in the world. To develop a deeper understanding of the play, it is important
to observe the similarities of the two characters; Prince Hamlet and Laertes. In the play, they are both
young men whose fathers are murdered due to political conflict. These men have different father and
son relationships but they mourn their father s deaths similarly. Even though they both study abroad
and their beloved Ophelia is home in Denmark, these two scholars still manage to love and protect her.

In spite of the distance, Laertes and Hamlet return and leave Denmark many times throughout the
play. They both love a woman named Ophelia in different ways. Laertes loves Ophelia since it is his
sister, and Hamlet loves her in a lustily way. Both Laertes and Hamlet react similarly when at Ophelia
s funeral. Both jump into her grave, declaring their love for Ophelia. As Laertes vows revenge, Hamlet
states he has in him something dangerous, telling Laertes: I loved Ophelia. Forty thousand brothers.
Could not, with all their quantity of love, make up my sum. What wilt thou do for her?. Different in
approach, Hamlet and Laertes yet share similarities in matters of the heart. Both Laertes and Hamlet
want to keep Ophelia safe from the people and customs of where she lives. Laertes takes on the big
brother role and advises Ophelia to keep her virtue safe and stay away from Hamlet because all he is
doing is using her. In Laertes s eyes, Hamlet must marry in order to suit the kingdom, so marrying the
daughter of the king s right hand man would not benefit the kingdom in any way. Therefore he
believes that Hamlet is just trying to take advantage of her. Later, Hamlet purposely acts cruelly
towards Ophelia in order to protect her. He wants her to have no involvement in his plan to kill the
king. Even though she betrayed him, he cannot possibly hate her, the proof is at her funeral. He was
devastated because of her death and even proceeded to throw himself in her grave along with Laertes.

These peer groups can be heard debating on their choices of horses to win. On some groups, one
member within the group is in charge of placing bets on a race. On one occasion, I have seen a multi
generational group in which the women were giving money to the elderly man, who I assume was
their father, to bet on the coming race. Finally, these racing fans come out in clusters of groups to the
outside in front of the racing track to watch and cheer for their favorite horses. On President s Day at 2
pm, the grandstand terrace was half filled with fans of at least two thousand. To increase the chance of
winning, thoroughbred racing fans use handicapping guides to select horses to wager on a race.
Handicapping guides are race programs, tip sheets, and newspaper style racing forms that ranked
horses. At close inspection, one particular racing guide, The Daily Racing Form , contains data such as
a horse past performances, jockeys, owners, and trainers. On two occasions, I observed that most fans
have at least one of these racing guides. Furthermore, I had seen several sections inside the grandstand
that are like a cafeteria occupied by handicappers but instead of food, handicapping guides lay on the
table. In this scenario, the fans look like researchers in a library. In addition to these handicapping
sections, there are sections that are like a stock exchange where handicappers are standing, facing, and

efforts will be discussed in this section. Traditional authentication methods depend on possession of

uses the private behavior for users, e.g., gestures and gaits. Currently, there are many different

Jain et al. [11] suggested an algorithm to compare the Equal Error Rates(EER) obtained from the
touch screen sensor with the rates of keystrokes in hardware keyboard. A developed keyboard
application replaces the system keyboard to capture features in any application that uses a keyboard.
The features are then stored in a SQLite database and classified by a one class SVM. This method
achieved EER of 10.5% for keystroke data, 3.5% for touch data and 2.8% for all data (touch and

ignored in this study. These sensors could differentiate accurately touch data from the keyboard timing
data.

Genetic, Biological, Chemical Pathways, And Modification...
A cancerous cell must adapt to various biological, chemical pathways, and modify it to impose its
malignant behavior in human s cell. The authors, Douglas Hanahan and Robert A. Weinberg points out
six significant variations in cell physiology that leads to the composition of most of these cancerous
cell. The cell s autonomy in growth signals, insensivity to growth inhibitory signals, circumvent
apoptosis, endless replication, angiogenesis sustainability, as well as neighboring tissue invasion along
with metastasis are main acquired capabilities of cancer cells. The article s significance depends on its
simplicity to convey information by providing concise methods as to how the cancer cell acquires the
capabilities to turn normal human cells into cancerous one.
The impersonating behavior of tumor cells result in heterotypic signaling thereupon making cancer
cell hyper responsive to encourage more growth. Furthermore, the article suggests that in 25% human
tumor cells, a Ras protein is often found structurally altered. A problem with mutated Ras protein is
that it cannot be phosphorylated hence a prolonged signaling is expected. Despite knowing this, there
is a limitation as to what other growth factors get deregulated in human tumor. For example, one study
found that half of the tumors in human colon carcinomas bear mutant ras oncogenes (Kinzler and
Vogelstein, 1996, p. 59). Thus, the researchers theorized that other half of tumor cell carried defects in
growth signaling

How Technology Can Be Short Range Communication
ABSTRACT
Car to car communication is a leading technology that may hit the market in upcoming two three years
.The technology that warns for imminent collision will be in cars soon and it will help car to transit

2.3 Mesh Network
Car to car communication would be a mesh network, which means every node (car, smart traffic
signal, brakes etc.) can transmit, capture and retransmit signals. Approximately five to ten hops on the
network would congregate traffic state a mile ahead. That would be sufficient time for even the most
inattentive driver to take care off.
2.4 GPRS (General Packet Radio Service)
A packet switched technology that allows data communications.
GPRS is a packet based wireless communication service that provides data rates from 56 up to 114

It supports a wide range of bandwidths.

  • 2. George Orwell s Use of Language Techniques to Represent... George Orwell s Use of Language Techniques to Represent Power in Animal Farm Power corrupts, but absolute power corrupts absolutely ; and this is eloquently proved in George Orwell s novel Animal Farm. In this satirical fable, Orwell uses his allegorical farm to candidly illustrate the corruptive nature of power and to symbolise the communist system in the microcosm of a farmyard barn. George Orwell was the pen name of Eric Blair, a British political novelist and essayist. He was also a socialist but he criticized the right (fascists and capitalists) as freely as he criticized the left (anarchists, socialists, and communists). Orwell used his writings mainly to expose the negative effects that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... At first, Animal Farm prospers. The pig leaders, Snowball and Napoleon assume the administration of the farm and as Snowball tries to teach the animals to read, Napoleon takes a group of young puppies to educate them in the principles of Animalism. Mr. Jones reappears to take back the farm but the animals defeat him again. As time passes however, Snowball and Napoleon increasingly quarrel over the future of the farm and they begin to struggle with each other for power and influence among the other animals. These disagreements lead up to a vote in order to build Snowball s proposal for a windmill, which Napoleon was opposed to. Then suddenly, nine enormous dogs the puppies that Napoleon had taken away to educate burst into the barn and chased Snowball away. Napoleon then declares himself leader. The initial intentions of the ideals of equality and justice were unsuccessful and the Animal Farm ended up being a dictatorship of pigs, who were the cleverest, and most idle of the animals. As years pass, the pigs become more and more like human beings walking upright, carrying whips, and wearing clothes. Eventually even the seven commandments were reduced a single principle of Animalism reading, all animals are equal, but some animals are more equal than others. The ... They both die for a different reason, Candy s dog dies because of Carlson s dislike towards the dog, This resulted in the shooting of the dog. Lennie dies because George wants to save Lennie, because of love. However, despite the different motivations for the two deaths, in many ways they are parallel. As mentioned above, Curley may lock him up and torture Lennie to take revenge for his hand and his wife. This ain t no good , as their leader Slim said. • 4. A Story Of Success And Its Impact On The World I like to visualize our presence in this universe as threads, running from one end to another, each of the same length as that of our lives. To picture a person s lifetime, I see thousands of these multi colored threads against a white background. For most part, a thread runs straight, unfettered but sometimes another thread crosses this one, defining a point in time when a person becomes associated with an event or is affected by its consequences. Today, I want to talk about two such events that crisscrossed a hundred other threads. Both of these events catapulted my understanding of large scale programs and the transformational impact they have on the people they serve. One is a story of success and the other, failure. It was one ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Like the autonomic nervous system of a giant, our setup included over twenty five thousand network switches and thousands of miles of cabling, which would soon carry VoIP (Voice Over IP) phone data from over 6,000 telephones and digitized security video from over 20,000 CCTV cameras. Baggage handling systems, which were the largest in the world, with 90km long conveyor belts, would talk to each other, through our networks, to find the most efficient path to move belongings. Even passenger preferences and on demand movies would be wirelessly transmitted to parked aircrafts, via our networks. My job was to ensure that this network was delivered. Using a team of 20 engineers, and over 40 technicians, we approached the work with a strong plan. The next few months saw the network switches being installed and the cabling work completed. The backbone was ready for the various vendors to plug their systems into but that was where we hit a roadblock. There were no less than 200 vendors, represented by over 100 nationalities and until this point each team had worked in isolation, chipping away at their share of the work, giving life to their part of this gargantuan machine. When all these teams were suddenly brought together, to interface with each other s systems, human interactions became as complex as they could get. Meanwhile, the DGCA (Directorate ... • 6. Character Analysis Of King Henry V King Henry is one of the most successful kings of England. He brought two warring kingdoms crashing together, and melded them into one united country. Henry is an extremely interesting and dynamic character. From a young age he associated with criminals, drunkards, and other lowly citizens. When his father was on his deathbed, he requested that Henry stopped being a criminal, and begin acting like a king. Henry made that oath, and stayed true to it until his dying day. Directly after that event, he judges three people to death for attempting treason. Reasons like this are the reason Henry progresses the story as the main protagonist. He is the main driving force that is pushing the plotline forward. Every time he is in a scene he enhances it, and brings the act more color and flare. While Henry does adapt his ways often, he doesn t always change. One of the examples of him sticking to old ways is how he is a religious man. Early in the story, he listens to the Archbishop, and starts this war because of him. The Archbishop is the prophet of god, which correlates with being a pious person. The English win the Battle of Agincourt in an astounding manner; only losing less than 30 men while the French lost 10,000 men. He decides the reason behind them winning the battle God s will. Another example of this is his choice to end people s lives. Henry V is a man of God, which is again shown on the eve of the Battle of Agincourt when he is talking with his men. One of his men wishes they had more men fighting, yet Henry wishes the opposite. If God has chosen them to lose this battle then more men would die. On the other hand, if God had chosen them to win, extra men wouldn t be needed, so they can use those extra men to suppress the Scottish rebellion. Henry doesn t blame always blame the innocents for others crimes either. There is an example in which Henry V has no quarrel with the innocent. The time arrives when ... • 13. The Five Most Powerful Pro Life Argument Analysis This weekend I watched a video titled The Five Most Powerful Pro Life Arguments posted by user Take Five Nation. The five claims presented were that 1) supply doesn t meet demand for adoption, 2) life begins at conception, 3) abortion compromises women s health by increasing chances of developing breast cancer, 4) medicine proves that a fetus is a person, and 5) abortion contradicts the basic moral principle of preserving life. After carefully evaluating each argument, I found some to be sound and some to be inarguably invalid. The first argument was that if there are couples waiting to adopt, and abortion takes away the chance for a couple to have a child, then all women should choose adoption in lieu of abortion. Though this argument seems valid enough, it is based largely on rhetoric alone. To claim that adoption is always a better option than abortion suggests that simply not wanting a child is the only reason that women ever choose to have an abortion. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is the only argument I found to be entirely false and, therefore, unacceptable. Several studies have debunked this theory time and time again. In fact, statistically speaking, a woman is technically at an increased risk for breast cancer after completing a term pregnancy Another claim of theirs was the classic life begins at conception argument. That is to say that if life begins at conception, and ending a life is immoral, then abortion is immoral. Though it is valid, the claim that ending a life is immoral is false, rendering the argument not sound. If ending a life were immoral, then that means anything from eating (since all food was once a living plant or animal), to killing someone in self defense is inherently wrong. With this same logic, their claim that abortion contradicts the basic moral principle of preserving life is also ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 28. Theories Of John Stuart Mill John Stuart Mill can be recognized as an influential English philosopher of his time. He strongly believed in the concept of freedom of speech and choice, without the censorship that laws and legal constitution bring. In other terms Mill s approach states that democracy is the only way we can flourish if we let our ideas surface. This paper will be centered around John Stuart Mill s theory of liberal democracy. This paper will be examining five different authors that have been inspired by Mills theoretical ideas. Su, H. C. (2009). Is social justice for or against liberty? the philosophical foundations of mill and Hayek s theory of liberty. Review of Austrian Economics, 22(4), 387 414. For this scholarly article author, Huei Su compares two philosophers Mills and Hayek s theory of liberty. The author argues that the the similarities in the economic theories of Mill and Hayek s main similarities between their theories are actually based on different rationales . The author focused on two particular ideals, liberty, and justice. From Mill s side he focused on liberty; how Mills believed that social justice aids in obtaining real freedom. While Hayek theory on liberty defers, however, Hayek supports his theory with his concept of rules and law. The author states that in regards to Mill, social justice and individual liberty can be achieved by utilitarianism only through various secondary principles of justice, rather than through the single first principle of ... The rest of the profits that go into taxes are spent on helping the community after the negative side effects of creating a casino. Between countries, this is a method of exchange that is gaining more and more popularity. By importing and exporting for low fees, free trade is an efficient way to cover up weaknesses in the country and gain on strengths. Free trade is a very controversial topic that is viewed upon differently by many people in many different countries. Some oppose free trade; they feel it will cause production losses or low employment in their country. Many countries also embrace it and believe it helps create a strong and healthy nation. The comparative advantage for computers, then, would go to Japan because they are more efficient at making them. They produce more computers and give up less than Canada does. Because Japan has the comparative advantage in producing computers in that example, free trade would maximize both country s production by having Japan specialize in producing computers and Canada specialize in producing cars. Then, both countries could trade the products they specialize in for the other, at a fair rate to be determined separately. Without free trade, each country had a bigger limit on what good they could produce. With trade, both countries still have a limit to what the countries can produce, but since they are trading what they are best at producing, they are maximizing the total numbers of goods in the country. Thus by trade at a fair, un taxed rate, they are capable of having more goods and services in their country and any given time. Both countries are able to produce the best they can and thus from trade, they receive the most of the other good as they possibly can. This is known as the law of comparative advantage (Mankiw, Kneebone, McKenzie Rowe 55). In Canada, the law of comparative advantage produces enormous benefits for both consumers and producers. First, by establishing trade connections with other countries, it allows Canada to specialize in producing what it is best in producing. No longer does ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 32. The Development of Fast Food The development of fast food was revolutionary; however, this revolution was corrupted by big business and the desire to maximize profit. With fast food as a staple for society, due to its convenience, the consumer fails to realize what is inside the burger they are eating. The customers are eating foods which are filled with additives such as cellulose and L cysteine. Additives are good for the bottom line, but bad for the well being of the consumer. Cost effective additives may be justifiable from a businessman s perspective, but what about the consumer? Cellulose, better known as wood pulp, doesn t come to mind as millions of uninformed customers chow down on their McNuggets. This additive is not simply pieces of tree bark cleverly hidden within fast food. Instead, it is a paste or powder (FoodBabe). Wood pulp is added to fast foods because of its caloric value of zero. With the absence of calories, food containing cellulose provides no nutritional value besides giving consumers that satisfying, full feeling. According to the FDA, cellulose consumption by humans, regardless of the amount, has no effect other than providing dietary bulk, reducing nutritive value of such food stuffs and possibly exerting a laxative effect (FDA). Many abusers of this filler include McDonalds, Taco Bell, Jack in the Box, Wendy s, Arby s, and Sonic. To develop a deeper understanding of the play, it is important to observe the similarities of the two characters; Prince Hamlet and Laertes. In the play, they are both young men whose fathers are murdered due to political conflict. These men have different father and son relationships but they mourn their father s deaths similarly. Even though they both study abroad and their beloved Ophelia is home in Denmark, these two scholars still manage to love and protect her. Laertes loves Ophelia since it is his sister, and Hamlet loves her in a lustily way. Both Laertes and Hamlet react similarly when at Ophelia s funeral. Both jump into her grave, declaring their love for Ophelia. As Laertes vows revenge, Hamlet states he has in him something dangerous, telling Laertes: I loved Ophelia. Forty thousand brothers. Could not, with all their quantity of love, make up my sum. What wilt thou do for her?. Different in approach, Hamlet and Laertes yet share similarities in matters of the heart. Both Laertes and Hamlet want to keep Ophelia safe from the people and customs of where she lives. Laertes takes on the big brother role and advises Ophelia to keep her virtue safe and stay away from Hamlet because all he is doing is using her. In Laertes s eyes, Hamlet must marry in order to suit the kingdom, so marrying the daughter of the king s right hand man would not benefit the kingdom in any way. Therefore he believes that Hamlet is just trying to take advantage of her. Later, Hamlet purposely acts cruelly towards Ophelia in order to protect her. He wants her to have no involvement in his plan to kill the king. Even though she betrayed him, he cannot possibly hate her, the proof is at her funeral. • 34. Santa Anita Park Thoroughbred Racing Fans Essay To thoroughbred horse racing fans, Santa Anita Park in Arcadia is the place to go this winter. The Park offers live horse racing in the backdrop of the magnificent San Gabriel Mountains. Except for occasional tourists, horse racing fans are not there for the scenery but to bet and win on horse races. Thoroughbred racing fans also called handicappers are using race programs and tip sheets to analyze and bet on horse races. To the handicappers, winning a bet on a horse race is like smoking marijuana. There is the euphoria of watching the horses run in the oval track. On one occasion, I have seen a multi generational group in which the women were giving money to the elderly man, who I assume was their father, to bet on the coming race. Finally, these racing fans come out in clusters of groups to the outside in front of the racing track to watch and cheer for their favorite horses. On President s Day at 2 pm, the grandstand terrace was half filled with fans of at least two thousand. To increase the chance of winning, thoroughbred racing fans use handicapping guides to select horses to wager on a race. Handicapping guides are race programs, tip sheets, and newspaper style racing forms that ranked horses. At close inspection, one particular racing guide, The Daily Racing Form , contains data such as a horse past performances, jockeys, owners, and trainers. On two occasions, I observed that most fans have at least one of these racing guides. Furthermore, I had seen several sections inside the grandstand that are like a cafeteria occupied by handicappers but instead of food, handicapping guides lay on the table. • 35. Essay On Implicit Authentication There are several efforts done to give solutions for restrictions on the implicit authentication. These efforts will be discussed in this section. Traditional authentication methods depend on possession of private data (i.e. passwords, pattern). Also, physiological biometrics based on algorithms that use distinct personal features, such as fingerprints or iris patterns. Lately, behavior based authentication uses the private behavior for users, e.g., gestures and gaits. Currently, there are many different physiological biometrics for authentication, such as fingerprints and face patterns [2], and iris patterns [3]. However, physiology based authentication requires user help in the authentication. For example, fingerprint authentication ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... They review methods and features used for this field. They suggested an approach in which a user must enter gesture in any direction to build user s model to be matched later through a score computation. However, no implementation is done to show accuracy achieved by the proposed framework. Jain et al. [11] suggested an algorithm to compare the Equal Error Rates(EER) obtained from the touch screen sensor with the rates of keystrokes in hardware keyboard. A developed keyboard application replaces the system keyboard to capture features in any application that uses a keyboard. The features are then stored in a SQLite database and classified by a one class SVM. This method achieved EER of 10.5% for keystroke data, 3.5% for touch data and 2.8% for all data (touch and keystroke). However, Additional sensors on the devices, such as gyroscopic and rotational sensors, are ignored in this study. These sensors could differentiate accurately touch data from the keyboard timing data. Feng Yao el al [12] have proposed and evaluated a Fuzzy Logic based implicit authentication scheme for mobile access control. That can maintain a high recognition of legal user activities while enabling timely detection of adversary user behavior by feeding dynamically computed aggregate score and threshold based parameters into Fuzzy Logic system to determine the trust status of current user activity. • 36. Genetic, Biological, Chemical Pathways, And Modification... A cancerous cell must adapt to various biological, chemical pathways, and modify it to impose its malignant behavior in human s cell. The authors, Douglas Hanahan and Robert A. Weinberg points out six significant variations in cell physiology that leads to the composition of most of these cancerous cell. The cell s autonomy in growth signals, insensivity to growth inhibitory signals, circumvent apoptosis, endless replication, angiogenesis sustainability, as well as neighboring tissue invasion along with metastasis are main acquired capabilities of cancer cells. The article s significance depends on its simplicity to convey information by providing concise methods as to how the cancer cell acquires the capabilities to turn normal human cells into cancerous one. The impersonating behavior of tumor cells result in heterotypic signaling thereupon making cancer cell hyper responsive to encourage more growth. Furthermore, the article suggests that in 25% human tumor cells, a Ras protein is often found structurally altered. A problem with mutated Ras protein is that it cannot be phosphorylated hence a prolonged signaling is expected. Despite knowing this, there is a limitation as to what other growth factors get deregulated in human tumor. For example, one study found that half of the tumors in human colon carcinomas bear mutant ras oncogenes (Kinzler and Vogelstein, 1996, p. 59). Thus, the researchers theorized that other half of tumor cell carried defects in growth signaling ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
