Symbolism In The Pale Man
Visually, the Pale Man is horrendous and intimidating, similar to the frog. The setting the pale man
lives in also adds the monstrous characteristics he possesses. The room s ceiling is painted of the
portraits of children that have been slaughtered by this monster. The scene shows a pile of shoes in
one corner. On the other corner, the skeletons of the bodies of the children rest.
The Pale Man sits at the end of a long table that is covered with food such as red grape, red fruit tarts,
and red wine. The Pale Man has very long, dark, and grotesque finger nails. His eyeballs are placed on
a tray in front of him, not on his face. His body is bare and has rigid skin. His only facial features are
his lips and the sockets where his eyes belong. Jones describes, His face is molten skin. His skin hangs
from him and his legs are emaciated, indicating his inherent lifelessness (44).
Moreover, The Pale Man s monstrous characters mirror the monstrous people and events in the film.
The visual aspects describe the bigger picture of society. The Pale Man takes away the childhood and
innocence of children. In a similar sense, the Pale Man depicts the rob on individuality in an entire
nation (Jones 44). He has deprived others of living an individual life. The portraits of children and pile
of shoes also give insight on the state of Spain. These images, recall the historical reality of the
holocaust... where piles of belongings, including the shoes, of its victims are displayed as a

Multiple Decisions In The Garden Of Forking Path
The possibility of having multiple decisions occur at once is displayed in a short story written in 1941
called The Garden of Forking Paths . This concept makes the short story seem more like a giant puzzle
that always has a missing piece. With the outer edges solved creating a frame narrative with the theme
of time which the author wrote to confuse the reader. Said by Mr. Dewey, if you read this story and
understand it then you didn t read the story properly. Meaning you didn t dive deep enough into the
reading, just read around the edges, the frame, and didn t come close to or reach the core of the short
story. You can compare the format of the story to a magic trick where the author is the magician. The
magic trick the reader is presented with is how can multiple decisions occur at once. ... Show more

When he believes his cover is blown when a fellow spy ends up dead he makes the rash decision to
make one final attempt to inform his Chief. On a race with time Yu Tsun knows of only one way to
make sure that the Chief in Berlin will receive the message. So he goes out and kills a man named
Stephen Albert whose name now paints the newspaper. Thus making it possible for the Chief to
decipher that the city Albert is where he must attack. Another feature in the story that got my attention
was when the main character Yu Tsun compared his childhood as a damp path zigzagged like those of
my childhood. (1341) this sentence in the paragraph jumped out to me because it didn t seem to fit in
with what Albert and Yu Tsun were talking about. Furthermore, Yu Tsun s childhood is never
mentioned in the story, only in this one line. Another part in the story I found intriguing was when Yu
Tsun and Albert were discussing the Ts ui Pen labyrinth and how the labyrinth was the entire world

Role Of Guilt In Macbeth
Focus Question: How do characters in the texts attempt to repress their guilt, and to what extent are
they successful?
Guilt is an emotion that we are all familiar with. It occurs when we act against our conscience, and
violate our moral code, which as humans, we often do. The degree of our guilt depends on how
significantly we view our misdeed. A psychotherapist, Maud Purcell, describes the more severe cases
of guilt as the greatest destroyer of emotional energy and says that staying consumed with guilt will
keep you from moving forward in a positive and productive way. Hence properly dealing with guilt is
crucial, which would explain why it is explored in many texts, including: Macbeth by William
Shakespeare, The Tell Tale Heart by Edgar ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Set in the 11th century Scotland, killing her king would have been the greatest crime Lady Macbeth
could commit in her community. However, blinded by ambition, she chooses to ignore her conscience,
seeking spirits to stop up the access and passage to remorse, that no compunctious visitings of nature
shake my fell purpose. Lady Macbeth wants to be inhumane, as she wants to feel and show neither
remorse nor compassion the emotions that are part of being human. Lady Macbeth s refusal to
acknowledge her conscience may explain why at the start, we as readers cannot identify any traces of
her guilt. For example, immediately after the regicide, unlike the guilt ridden Macbeth, Lady Macbeth
declares that a little water clears us of this deed . We can infer that she believes her sin is so
insignificant that mere water can wash it away; implying that there is no reason to feel guilty.
Likewise, the narrator of The Tell Tale Heart at first also tries to ignore his conscience and hence his
guilt. We know this because Poe initially positions us to see the narrator as a psychopath, someone
who feels no empathy nor remorse, as the narrator murders an old man whom he loved and who had
never wronged [him] . Unlike Lady Macbeth, object there was none the sole reason for his controlled
and calculative murder was because of the old man s vulture eye which made the narrator s blood
[run] cold and chilled the very marrow of [his] bones. After the successful murder and the cunning
concealment of the body, the narrator smiled gaily as [the old man s] eye would trouble him no more.
He is so cunning and has full control of his emotions that he even satisfied and convinced the police
officers. Poe compels us to question the humanity of the narrator, as he seems emotionless and
ruthless. Both characters denial of guilt seems to be successful at first. However, as the stories
progress, it is clear

Elie Wiesel Night Themes
Elie Wiesel has said that all his works are commentary on Night, his one work that deals directly with
the Holocaust. His novels are odysseys of a soul fragmented by the Holocaust, in quest of tranquillity,
an attempt to move away from the night, reaching the shores of day. The key to understanding Wiesel,
then, is his memoir in the form of a novella, Night. It is a slim volume that records his childhood
memories of his hometown and his experiences in the concentration camp. It also contains the themes,
images, and devices that recur throughout his novels.
Night
The opening chapter of Night begins with the social setting of Wiesel s native village of Sighet in
Transylvania its inhabitants, their customs, their beliefs and his first meeting with Moché, the beadle,
a character who forms a link to all his other works. Events occur rapidly. The disruption of normalcy
with the invasion of the Germans, the forcing of the Jews into ghettos, their deportation, and the
obliteration of the Jewish community are recorded tersely ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The townspeople, however, refuse to believe him and think he has gone mad. Moché appears in every
book; his role is usually that of messenger in the tale he tells. Madness is an essential element in all
Wiesel s works. On the one hand, it is indicative of the malady that struck the world during the
Holocaust years. Wiesel, however, treats his madmen sympathetically. Their madness is not clinical
but mystical. They are visionaries, saints, or messengers, endowed with the task of saving the world.
As such, they become one with humankind, God, and creation. Wiesel s point is that madness can be a
force of evil or good. Hitler and his Nazis were mad. Their madness was employed to destroy the
world. Most of Wiesel s madmen want to bring about the Messiah; they want to redeem the

Manifest Destiny And Western Expansion
Manifest Destiny
In the 19th century the settlers in America believed they had a mandate from God to expand west, this
is called the Manifest Destiny. This expansion would involve not merely territorial aggrandizement,
but the progress of liberty and individual economic opportunity as well. The Manifest Destiny shaped
America throughout the years. Three main things that revolve around the Manifest Destiny are the
moon race with Russia, western expansion, and how we found more resources and advancements in
technology. Western expansion was the main topic in the Manifest Destiny, but the Manifest Destiny
was not the only thing involved with western expansion. One of the other main factors in Western
expansion was the louisiana purchase. In 1803, President Thomas Jefferson purchased the territory of
Louisiana from the French government for $15 million. The land that the bought stretched from the
Mississippi river to the Rocky mountains, and from Canada to New Orleans, it was also double the
size of the United States. James K. Polk was the 11th presidents of the United states of America. His
name is perhaps most closely associated with Manifest Destiny, because a year before he became the
president, the Manifest destiny started the embody the governing philosophy of the Polk
administration and its ardently expansionist aims. Polk s campaigning methods is the leading cause to
his victory of becoming the president of America. He campaigned on an expansionist platform,

Love Song
One of my favorite movies is The Fault in Our Stars . It is a movie of star crossed love, complicated
by tragedy. Both of the main characters are battling cancer and one of them dies at the end. They fall
in love and travel together. The characters are both vulnerable, in need of help and love and at the
same time, brave. Likewise, Carol Muske Dukes Love Song is about how love is complicated,
wanting; it needs and care. At the same time love can be brave and unpredictable. The poem shows
how challenging and demanding love can be. Love came from a need that was met by the speaker. In
both the movie and the poem love does not work out. In the movie, a character dies, and in the poem,
love does not guarantee anything either. Just because / I raised it by touch, does not mean it / follows

A tin bird is not a real bird but the love pecks at the tin image of/a faceless bird (9 10). While the
speaker is real and cares for the bird; the bird connects with a false image. People sometimes love an
image, or what they think someone represents but do not connect to an actual person.
The mood of the poem is sad and the tone is dark. The bird, love, is in danger from others. The
sparrow seems vulnerable and lost. It cannot help itself. The end of the poem describes love as hungry,
as faceless and the sparrow singing, famished in the speaker s hand. These are gloomy images. The
author of the poem s husband died. Her poem shows yearning and longing.
The poem uses personification to describe love as bird. Love is hungry, stubborn because it refuses to
fly and it pecks at the tin image of a faceless bird. The speaker also says that love is a camera in a
doorway, a script, and a tin bird. The poem is filled with images that let us know that love can be
aloof, not quite real and sometimes unresponsive. Love is challenging and even hard to

Connection To Native American Culture
My connection to Native American culture is very limited. The knowledge I do have would primarily
be from the Disney movie Pocachontas as well as what I learned in elementary school relating to the
first settlers and Thanksgiving. I have a basic understanding that their culture is based deeply in
spiritual rituals. I also know that they have been forced to move from their land and have had to fight
to keep the reservations that they currently reside on.
I would say that the Native American culture most influences me in relation to my love of art. The
Native Americans are well known for many artistic things in jewelry and pottery. The Native
American jewelry can also be based on spiritual rituals as well as tribal and is often turquoise

Karl Marx And The Productive Power
Karl Marx believed that growth is driven by the progression of the productive power by human. This
productive power was also the rise and fall of an economic structure according to how progression is
supported and downcast. Marx suggest that through communism it is possible to eliminate the
constraint that exploitation has on the society s laborers.
The mode of production involves the methods humans use to produce the resources to sustain the
provision for survival and to improve society as a whole. The two components to the mode of
production are the means of production (what is used) and the relation of production or property
(labor, capital). The mode of production is the union of creative powers and the relations of
production. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Feudalism
The very definition of the term feudalism as it relates to the 19th century is that of a dominant social
system in medieval Europe, in which the nobility held lands from the Crown in exchange for military
service, and vassals were in turn tenants of the nobles, while the peasants (serfs) were obliged to live
on their lord s land and give him homage, labor, and a share of the produce, notionally in exchange for
military protection. Thus, the feudalist mode of production was constructed on a mixture of the
enormous landholdings belonging to the feudal lords and the lesser smallholdings of the direct makers,
the serfs, who were misused by added economic restraint, as distinctive of feudalist power. This is a
form of stratification. Some Principles of Stratification by Kingsley Davis and Wilbert Moore
advocate that stratification is needed in order to make a society functional. The lords (upper class)
have the power while the serfs (middle/lower class) tends to the labor. However, Max Webber s Class,
Status, Party defines stratification as taking something which is not yours to take. This is a justified
cause to change the function of society. The lords demanded that the labor of the serfs be a right
belonging to the lords. The mode of production under feudalism permitted the exploitation of labor by
forcing the people to the very land that they worked and not rendering them the economic freedom
they deserved. The downfall of feudalism was due to the

Increases in grain prices are having a knock on effect on wheat, meat and dairy, while rising fuel

Due to the recession the discounter grocers are booming. Lidl s market share has gone up to 2.6 %

Essay about Sexual and Class Exploitation In “The Wife’s...
An Analytical Essay on Sexual and Class Exploitation In The Wife s Resentment This essay will
analyze the themes of sexual and class exploitations in the story The Wife s Resentment by Delariviere
Manley. By exploring these themes we are able to get an idea of why Manley wrote this story. That is,
she hoped to make young women, whether rich or poor, aware of the value of their virtue as well as
their rights as married or single women to protect that virtue or honor. By revealing the themes that are
presented in the story, we can see what Manley stood for and why she wrote this story in the period
she lived in. The Wife s Resentment is a story with a plot that amazes the reader. It s a plot that brings

However, she manages to stay strong and not give into any favors with him until married. Her
response to his pursuit was Your person is handsome, your present very well, your letter is witty and
extraordinary well writ; but what are all these accomplishments to a virgin who values nothing but
virtue? (146). This passage is very significant because it gives the reader knowledge of what Violenta
stands for. The author intended for the reader to know that even though Violenta was of a lower class
than Roderigo, that she was not willing to be used as a mistress or to submit to his needs without
getting married. This part of the story is considered sexual exploitation because he is in a way
pressuring her into giving up her virtue. He followed her around where to be near her, he committed a
thousand indecencies (147). This caused Violenta to let him know that she wanted to be left alone so
she goes on to say, I know it will be impossible for me to live after the loss of my honor. I conjure you
to leave me in repose, lest I be obliged to shut myself up in a cloister to avoid your pursuit (147). That
being said, the story continues on to the part in which we get an example of class exploitation. After a
long pursuit without any result, Roderigo resolves to change his ways. He knew that they were pretty
poor so he goes on to make

Personal Reflection
As I was reading this book, I kept having awe moments because I have either seen the material
covered in real time or have thought about it. Out of the five career strategy components, the two that
stood out for me were extending experiences and networking/connecting. Reflecting on my
educational and professional career, these two themes have been the most relevant.
Extending experiences When I graduated from UC Santa Barbara (UCSB), I expected to get a job
within the month. I believed that by simply having my degree I would stand out from the group, little
did I know this was completely false. I had a resume with little experience and realized it was my lack
of previous experiences that would haunt me. In addition to having little experience, I never visited a
career counselor at UCSB to assist me with the proper structure of a resume and cover letter. Feeling
unprepared and disappointed at myself about how I used my time while at UCSB, I fell into a minor
depression. After every denial email from employers, my depression grew. However, it was one
experience that truly shaped my job search perception. I applied to any and every job in the market
and got the opportunity to interview for AT T for a clerk position. Going into the job interview I had
high hopes because I knew I had the discipline. When I entered the office where the interview was
being held, the hiring manager asked me a few questions about myself and then he stopped. He was

Spending On The Construction Of New Sports Facilities
Spending on the construction of new sports facilities grew at a staggering rate post 2007. A total of
13.4 billion is being spent on around 81 arenas and other major as well as minor sport facilities in and
around the U.S. at least through 2010. The association of exceedingly high cost has put the subject of
public financing of new stadiums and playing arenas under exceptional examination. The development
of another stadium or playing arena is a costly job which these days can often surpass a few hundred
million dollars. In the pre 1990 s period the vast majority of the sports facilities were for the most part
supported through public financing, however with the progression of time as the financing
prerequisites for developing new sports facilities grew, so did the financing techniques. Public
financing for major sports arenas is mainly done by heavily subsidizing the construction process of
these stadiums. The main argument of local governments favoring the use of tax payers money for
construction of sports facilities is that these facilities will better the entire area and city as a whole.
The main sources of public financing for building new sports facilities include; sales taxes, general
obligation bonds, beneficiary taxes, tax increment bonds, revenue bonds and proximity taxes.
Given the complicated and often conflicting arguments regarding stadium financing, the only
advisable course of action for policymakers is to make the debate more open and honest. If

Maynard On Euthanasia
I am dying and I refuse to lose my dignity. (Maynard). Many people feel this way when they learn
about the life changing statement that they have a terminal disease. Brittany Maynard, who was
diagnosed with a terminal brain disease decided to choose the option of Euthanasia to save her dignity
and leave the world by her own choice and means. Euthanasia is the termination of a very sick person
s life in order to relieve their suffering. A person who undergoes euthanasia usually has an incurable
condition but there are other instances where some people want their life to be ended. This term of
euthanasia is derived from the Greek word euthanatos which means easy death (Nordqvist). This topic
known as euthanasia is a controversial issue that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I probably would have suffered in hospice care for weeks or even months. And my family would have
had to watch that (Maynard). Maynard believes that her family won t be able to see her in a
deteriorating condition therefore decided to opt out of that. Families can t see their loved one in pain
everyday of every hour. I did not want this nightmare scenario for my family, so I started researching
death with dignity .......I quickly decided that death with dignity was the best option for me and my
family (Maynard). Maynard felt that undergoing a treatment for getting rid of the tumor would be
more painful for her and her family. No one can give Brittany and her family a hundred percent
guarantee that tumor would actually go away forever. Doctors confirmed that if Brittany goes under
treatment, she will be the same person she was before treatment meaning that treatment will have side
effects that might affect her for her entire life. The lethal drug used for euthanasia patients is more cost
efficient for people. Soumya Karlamangla, author of Will California s end of life push lethal drugs
over costlier care? explains that drugs that keep one alive are too expensive to afford and have no
guarantee of being helpful while the injection or pills to end life are free of cost (Karlamangla). The
questions of saving money and doctor s guarantee that the incurable disease will go away with
treatment comes into play during making this important choice. Why would one pay more money for a
drug that has no guarantee of saving their life and getting their hopes up when there is a big possibility
that nothing will happen. While the lethal drug also known as the euthanasia drug is much less
expensive and will do its job with certainty. Therefore if one is debating what route to choose when

The Discover of Biotin or Vitamin H Essay
Biotin has been discovered in many similar ways which is in fact the reason as to why no one person
can take the full accreditation to its discovery. Biotin is occasionally referred to as Vitamin H or
vitamin B7 (Challem, 2008) , but it was not fully perceived until the 1900s. W. Bateman was a
primary researcher in the discovery of the vitamin and made the most notable contributions to the
findings of biotin. An additional discoverer was a scientist by the name of Fitz Kogl and Paul Gyrory.
The two of them came together and created the name biotin.
The obvious primary sources of biotin in the human diet are meats, such as the kidneys and liver.
Additional sources are cheese, mushrooms, egg yolks, oats, soy, buts, milk and wheat. Biotin ... Show

has even been given to people in doses of 200 mg. The adequate amounts for digestion from different
ages vary. Infants aging from age 0 to twelve months are recommended to take only 7 micro grams
daily. Children from the ages of one to three years, take eight micro grams. Children from the ages of
four to eight are recommended to take twelve micro grams, children between the ages of nine to
thirteen can take twenty micro grams daily, teenagers aging from fourteen to eight are instructed to
take twenty five micro grams, adults over the age of eighteen and women who are pregnant are
advised to take thirty micro grams a day and women who are breast feeding are instructed to take

The Gods In Geoffrey Philp s The Cattle Of The Sun God
As the suitors, Odysseus and most of the people in the Greek world could tell you it is a lot better to
have the gods on your side than as your enemy. Odysseus journey home in the Odyssey was a great
example of how the gods can affect your life. One the reasons his journey took so long was because of
the gods intervening. Although without the help of a few gods, he would not have gotten home at all.
In the image, it shows a ship far away from home. It also shows waves that signify Poseidon not
letting Odysseus go home. The image is very good at showing the hopelessness the ship in. Also,
Geoffrey Philp, in his poem The Cattle of the Sun God shows a similar point of the power and what
can happen if the gods are betrayed. In Philip s writing, it shows only how awful the gods can be. It is
about Odysseus s crew making a dumb decision and the gods acting as their own system of Karma. In
the poem, Philip uses the consequences of the mortals mistake to demonstrate the power of the gods.
The mortals in Greek world have learned about how awful it is to have a god as your enemy. In the
Odyssey the main character, Odysseus makes a brutal mistake that got a god to be his enemy. In book
9 after, Odysseus blinds Poseidon s son Polyphemus and tricks him to think his name is nobody. But
after he escapes, he shows hubris and starts to taunt, he mockingly gloats, Cyclops if any man on earth

The Misuse Of Technology In The Veldt By Ray Bradbury
We rely on technology nowadays to do simple tasks for us like dry our hair, research answers on the
web, and watch television for entertainment and for the news. Technology is being over used for very
simple things, what if we relied on them too much as a whole for us to forget doing simple task?
Would it be helpful to us that we rely on technology to do everything for us? In the story The Veldt ,
the author Ray Bradbury communicates that the misuse of technology can lead to unforeseen
disadvantages, he demonstrates the theme through his uses of imagery and symbolism.
The author Ray Bradbury uses imagery of the setting, which is the house, to develop the misuse of
technology. The story begins with the Hadley s being delusional about their children, thinking there is
something mentally wrong with them because of what the children has portrayed in the nursery. The
nursery in the story is described as an African Veldt, ...presently an African veldt appeared, in three
dimensions, on all sides, in color reproduced to the final pebble and bit of straw. This quote implies
how the nursery can be realistic due to the children thoughts. By doing this, Bradbury made the
parents scream at the end of the story as the lions started to edge slowly forward towards them. That
sun. He could feel it on his neck, still, like a hot paw. And the lions. And the smell of blood. This
sentence suggests how the African Veldt looks like a menacing place to be because of the lions that are

wants to find out if their favorite team has won, media is the way to go. We trust the media to keep the
whole world updated and connected. But, is the media exploiting our blind trust by subconsciously
manipulating us through subliminal advertising? Firstly, what is subliminal advertising? It is a
technique in which the consumer is exposed to product or brand advertising such as pictures or songs
related to the product without the consumer being consciously aware of it. This may include ads

This experiment was conducted by James M. Vicary, who was a psychologist and marketing
researcher. In the experiment, the words drink Coca Cola and eat popcorn were projected on the
screen for 1/3,000 of a second during the screening of movies. After the experiment, there were
numerous reports in the news regarding the results which stated that there was an increase in the sales
of popcorn and Coke after the experiment began. Although these results were not given much
credibility due to the absence of a control group, the exposure of this experiment made people realise
that they were being targeted subconsciously.
A big component of subliminal advertising is repetitive advertising. This method has been used a lot in
the past and is still being used today. Examples of this can be found all around us. If you turn on the
television these days. you will see commercials for a specific product multiple times during a short
period of time. This strategy is applied in order to reinforce the image of that product in the consumer
s mind. If a person sees a commercial a few times, then he or she may or may not buy the product.
Their behaviour will depend totally on the fact that did they like what they saw in the commercial or
not. But if they are shown the commercial again and again, then they become curious about the
product and this is enough to initiate a trial purchase. A.S.C. Ehrenberg, a professor of

Medical Animator Essay
This paper provides knowledge about what the effects of animation has in the fields of both biology
and medicine. It also gives some information about what a medical animator is and their purpose in
science. As well as some extra information about them, such as the courses or classes they need to
attend through in order to be considered a medical animator. Information about the materials and
research necessary in order to create a scientifically accurate animation, in which they are showing the
process of something or of any type of medical or scientific event that an animation is needed for.
What makes an animation scientifically accurate, and the science that goes into an animation. In
addition to that, I will also talk about what the perks of animation in these fields are. Along with how
animation can help better the learning and understanding of difficult topics and procedures, whether it

Physics Of Bowling

Physics
30 May 2015
The Physics of Bowling Bowling is a fun filled pastime with a lot more to it than what meets the eye.
Some of the concepts involved are energy, momentum, forces, velocity, acceleration, and center of
mass. The ultimate goal of a bowler is to knock down as many pins as he can. To successfully do this,
a bowler needs to first consider the trajectory in which his ball travels down the lane. Energy is a
system s ability to do work. (Elert) The unit for energy is joules. Some other characteristics of energy
are that it takes numerous forms and that it is a scalar quantity.(Elert) The two types of energy are
kinetic energy and potential energy. Kinetic energy refers to an object s motion. This differs ... Show

The greater angle optimizes the number of pins that the ball will knock down. The way that the bowler
controls this is in the manner in which he grasps the ball. It is dependent on the position that the
bowler places his fingers and thumb. Rotational velocity is the main feature. The importance of
rotational velocity is from the precession it provides the ball with. Precession is the change in
direction of the bowling balls spin vector... over time (Physics Of Bowling.) Increasing precession
leads to the domino effect. That is increasing amount of friction on the ball, so the hook that the ball
strikes the pins is also greater. By default there is a greater angle for the bowling

The Effects of Fracking on the Environment Essay
While it is true fracking , a procedure to obtain natural gas removal from shale formations, it is also
true there have been infrastructure security issues associated with this practice. Furthermore, there
have been ecological considerations from fracking brought to the forefront by countless
environmentalists. Indeed, hydraulic fracturing, as it is referred to, is a process by which shale gas and
oil is uprooted from a depth far below the earth s exterior. The process of extracting shale gas and oil
is employed aggressively while water is forced deep beneath the earth surface through a geological
arrangement. From this arrangement, oil and gas is exerted back to the earth s surface. Moreover, once

Where this agreement usually ends, however, is with the question of quality control refining processes
from my viewpoint. Anotherwords, what control measures are enforced to ensure all contaminants are
entirely removed to guarantee a high level of quality assurance and security of the petroleum sectors
within the nation s infrastructures? Are there residual contaminants affecting the quality of fuel
supplied to the nation s energy consumers? From a preceding viewpoint, it can be related to the
Colorado Floods that occurred in September 2013. Even the prevailing thought of hazardous waste
introduced to the Colorado geographical landscape does not eliminate the second and third order
affects imposed on the nation s petroleum pipeline infrastructure by way of corrosion, introducing
chemicals into the pipeline arteries through small cracks that may extend beyond Colorado, an
implication that cannot be ruled out. Water contamination prevention or across the board programs
from the negative effect of hydraulic fracturing should be an expectation from petroleum energy
producers. Moreover, it reminds us of an infrastructure security vulnerability, which is not often
specified, when hydraulic fracturing is correlated to the role water functions through the conventional
petroleum refining process, along with vast arrays of petroleum pipelines that exist across the nation s
geographical landscapes. These concerns should be brought

Hawaii Is The Capital Of Hawaii
I have taken a trip to the beautiful island of Honolulu, Hawaii, The Big Island in the summer of 4th of

Airport Manhattan, New York, then to Atlanta, Georgia And finally Hawaii. The duration of my travel
was approximately 10 hours in the air. The crew of Delta Airline was very professional to their
passengers and the flight attendants demonstrated great hospitality. The flight attendants were very
actively serving water, cookies, ice, meals, and other food to their passengers. They were so nice about
giving doubled snacks. They attend to my needs when I asked question and they truly made my flight
enjoyable. When the pilot announced the landing in Hawaii, I looked outside the window and saw
how beautiful the island landscape. It was breathtaking to see the mountains filled with green trees and
houses on the mountains. That was an amazing sight to see and experience. Once I landing in Hawaii,
my adventure began with the sun shining brightly, the warm island breeze, and of course the warm
hospitality of the people Hawaiian people. My description of Hawaii is how beautiful the locales
people are friendly. The native good mornings greeting is called Mahalo. Mahalo means interest in the

Compare And Contrast Owens And The Ohio State University

Owens achievements on the track in high school were so phenomenal that he caught the attention of
several Big Ten universities, including The Ohio State University and the University of Michigan. It
came down to which school had the best offer, and in the end, OSU s proposal that Owens could work
part time as a freight elevator operator at the State House while training and going to classes was the
winning one. After passing a series of exams that summer to qualify him to enter college (he was a
few credits shy of graduating from high school), Owens started classes at OSU in the fall of 1933.
At the time of Owens matriculation, The Ohio State University had only one men s dorm, and Owens
was barred from it because of his race. He instead shared a boarding house with several other African
American students on East 11th Avenue, where they cooked their own meals and sometimes ate in the
student union. No restaurant along High Street would serve them, nor were they allowed to go to most
movie theaters. Owens, though, made the best of the situation, focusing on his studies and training

The Emancipation Proclamation And Its Consequences
The Emancipation Proclamation And Its Consequences During his election campaign and throughout
the early years of the Civil War, Lincoln vehemently denied the rumour that he would mount an attack
on slavery. At the outbreak of fighting, he pledged to restore the Union, but accept slavery where it
existed , with Congress supporting his position via the Crittendon Johnson Resolutions. However,
during 1862 Lincoln was persuaded for a number of reasons that Negro emancipation as a war
measure was both essential and sound. Public opinion seemed to be going that way, Negro slaves were
helping the Southern war effort, and a string of defeats had left Northern morale low. A new moral
boost to the cause might give weary Union soldiers added impetus in the fight. Furthermore, if the
Union fought against slavery, Britain and France could not help the other side, since their peculiar
institution was largely abhorred in both European nations. Having eased the American public into the
idea, through speeches that hinted at emancipation, Lincoln finally signed the Proclamation on
January 1st 1863, releasing all slaves behind rebel lines. Critics argued that the proclamation went
little further than the Second Confiscation Act and it conveniently failed to release prisoners behind
Union lines. Nevertheless, Henry Adams summed up public reaction to the Proclamation as an almost
convulsive reaction in our favour . During 1862, the abolition movement enjoyed previously

Analysis Of Cather s A Pair Of Silk Stockings
Cather and Chopin on Feminism Women have been taught that, for us, the earth is flat, and that if we
venture out, we will fall off the edge. ~Andrea Dworkin. This quote shows how society has put this
idea into the heads of women in every new generation that a women has to play the certain household
role while men go out and work. It portrays that women can t venture past the expectations that an
earlier society put on women s shoulders. Throughout time, women have played the role of the quiet
house wife. Society enforces the expectations that women should follow society s demands over their
own desires. In Chopin s story A Pair of Silk Stockings the main character, Mrs. Sommers, wished to
escape the typical role of a busy housewife and wanted to live independently in the life of luxury.
These writings are relevant today since feminism hasn t prospered to the point that both men and
women are treated as equals. Some may say that men and women are now treated the same since both
are capable of the same duties; however, men can do the same duties but most chose not to due to
early women s roles. The fact that men and society form women into housewife roles even if they
have jobs is proven in the article, More Women are in the Workforce So Why are They Still Doing So
Many Chores?, when its states, ...new data suggests that women in heterosexual partnerships may be
just as burdened with household chores as ever (business.time.com). Hence, women with jobs are still

Panic Disorder
You become terrified for no apparent reason; your heart feels as though it will beat right out of your

are crazy, then so are 2.4 million other people in the United States. Panic disorder, one of many
anxiety disorders, is a serious and potentially debilitating illness. This illness is treatable, however,
only one third of those who suffer will actually be treated. What is panic disorder? Panic disorder is

Most of those who are treated at emergency rooms will be discharged without ever knowing what was
wrong with them. Many patients fear the attack will last indefinitely, however, in reality most panic
attacks peak within ten minutes and then quickly go away. It does seem to the sufferer that those few
minutes are forever due to their overwhelming fear. Because the attacks are such horrible experiences,
most panic disorder patients will then develop anticipatory anxiety, which is known as fear of the fear.
They not only fear the panic attack, itself, but also the anticipation of it. They will obsess over the
possibility they will have more attacks. Even the slightest physical symptom can set off the
anticipatory anxiety and create the fear of fear. In any given month, 5 tenths of our population, or 1
million people will exhibit symptoms of panic disorder. This condition will affect at least one out of
every 75 people worldwide during their lifetime. Two thirds of the sufferers will be women. Panic
disorder typically begins in the late teen years, or the early to mid twenties, however, the disorder can
develop in childhood, middle age or the later years. Panic disorder also appears to be somewhat
heredity; 15 to 17 percent of patients who have close relatives with panic disorder also have the
disorder themselves. The first attack is often preceded by a stressful event the death of someone close,

Primary community and prevention resources include the Clark County Health Department Sexual
Health Clinic and private physicians. The Sexual Health Clinic is open to all; there is a $40 charge for
STI screenings. This fee will be placed on account if the patient does not have the funds at the time of
the visit. The clinic does not have a billing system, those with outstanding accounts will never receive

private physician s office with no charge. Often the needed medications are covered by health

The underlying causes of the sharp increase of STI s in Clark County include a combination of factors,
including multiple sexual partners, fewer STI prevention campaigns and increasingly popular dating
apps and websites that make casual sex easier. The constant flow of visitors into and out of Las Vegas
every year makes identify and notify patients of possible infections exposure impossible. According to

involve the deeper layer (dentin) of the tooth. Various factors like genes, poor oral hygiene, smoking,
consumption of food substances like tea, coffee, wine, cranberries, etc. and even aging are the
common culprits behind the tooth discoloration. The stains on the teeth can also stain your life

Manifest functions are those recognized and intended consequences that people observe or expect in a
social pattern or social institution. In the first book, On My Way With Sesame Street:My ABC s, the
main manifest function was to teach children the alphabet. The multiple sets of the alphabet, along
with the different vocabulary, help to expand the vocabulary that the children develop. Along, with
sentences describing the words, there are pictures demonstrating them. The alphabet demonstrated by
Grover uses his own body and a few props to demonstrate the shapes of the letters. There is even an
alphabet of trash done by Oscar the Grouch. Another manifest function would be that this book is a
tool to teach children how to read. This book teaches children that there is more than one way to look
at the alphabet, and that it can be fun to learn. The latent functions are those unrecognized
consequences. When adults read this book to their children, the children will have to listen to
comprehend what they are being read. The children will also be taught how to sit still to be able to see
the book. Another latent function is that they will be taught other activities throughout this book like
colors, shapes, and spelling. In the second book, Disney Frozen: Forever Sisters, a manifest function
would be about how this book is a fairytale because Elsa has the powers of snow and ice. Love and
hate relationships between siblings is shown throughout this book because Anna and Elsa fought and
Elsa coronation, which caused Elsa to set off her powers, and caused her to run away, but she was
hunted. She was almost killed until Anna saved her, and in the end everyone was happy. A manifest
function, is that this book teaches children about love, and how to be able to express love. A major
latent function is about body image. The girls in the book are very tiny which can cause girls to feel

Television s Effects on the Natural Environment Essay
Television s Effects on the Natural Environment You may be thinking, How on earth could the TV
have an affect on our natural environment? and you have every right to. At first glance, it may seem
impossible that the TV can have an effect on our natural surroundings; but, nevertheless, it does.
One of the ways that the TV can have an effect on our surroundings is by the amount of power that is
needed to run all of the TV s in the world. I realize, that compared to other appliances, a television
does not use a huge amount of energy. But think about this: almost every family in America has at

These same people that I have just talked about above can also help the environment. Scientists who
make documentaries can be very helpful to the environment as well. If they are able to travel into the
wilderness to study animals and wildlife, a video camera can be a useful tool. The scientists, with the
help of a video camera, can record their observations of these animals and view them later on a
television or place them on television where others, who were not able to travel to the particular
location, can watch and observe these animals as well. The ability to do this helps the environment in
two ways: 1) It helps scientists and other experts understand our natural world much better enabling
them to help preserve it, and it 2) promotes education of the environment to those who are not
scientists. As you can see, the TV has an effect on our environment for good and bad, even though it
may be indirect.
When I say natural environment, you probably only think about the ways in which it affects our land
and animals, but there is another aspect: human health. Television has had a great impact on human
health since its invention in 1926. Americans, and humans in general, spend huge amounts of time
watching television each year. When people watch TV, they are giving up time in which they could be
exercising. As a consequence of this lack of exercise,

Reflection Of Japanese Immersion
Individual Reflection Japan Immersion
Benjamin Franklin said once, An investment in knowledge pays the best interest. This summer I had
the opportunity to invest in my professional knowledge as an international business woman, and I
agree that such investment will pay the best interest. I participated in the Japan immersion program
from the College of Business which allowed me to grow as a professional by expanding my
perspective on the difficult process of starting a business in a foreign country in which you are not
familiar with. Additionally, I developed a greater ability to adapt to a different culture beyond my
already current adaptability as an international student. And Finally, I understood the process of
preparation for doing international business to be well informed of their culture and how to
incorporate it as a competitive advantage when trying to do business with them.
First, the immersion program contributed to my professional development by allowing me to be
confident in the future to be chosen as the lead or a member team to start a business in a foreign
country. During the immersion, I was introduced to the ideologies and strategies foreign companies
develop to bring their product to the United States, and the Resources that are available for those
companies, as well as foreign companies wanting to start a business in Japan. For example for United
States companies wanting to start to do business within the Japanese market they have resources such
as Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO), an independent government agency designed to help
navigate international companies with the regulations and tax laws of countries around the world
needed to succeed on an international business. In addition there is also the opportunity of partnering
with Japanese companies to learn about the specific market from the insiders. In addition, some
research parks corporations, like the Kyoto Research Park, to which I was able to visit during the
Immersion, provide companies with Office spaces, safety, amenities, and support for startup business
that can be beneficial for foreign companies. Starting a business can be difficult, but starting a

215). Visiting the Prophet s grave is a controversial issue. Scholars have different perspectives on
traveling to his grave, each based on the Islamic Law, shari ah. Al Nawawi and Bin Baz each have
differing yet similar rulings on the proper way of Pilgrimaging to the Prophets place of burial. Abd al
Aziz Bin Baz has a very specific set of circumstances on visiting the Prophet Muhammad s grave. He
suggests that someone may not visit Medina with the sole purpose of seeing his grave. Bin Baz
explicitly states: It is not permissible to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
6). The two scholars have several differences between their ideas on visiting the grave of the Prophet.
Bin Baz suggest that one should visit the grave before or after Hajj. He also forbids women from
travelling to the grave of the Prophet. Bin Baz justifies this by stating that Muhammad has cursed
women who go to graves (Fatawa of Shaykh Abdulaziz b. Baz Volume 16). Al Nawawi recommends
visiting it only as one is leaving Mecca, after Hajj. He also has a more strict policy on visiting the
graves. Al Nawawi suggests that the visitor must perform ghusl before arriving in Medina, in which a
ritual washing takes place. After they have completed this then they must put on their cleanest clothes
(The Explication of the Rites of Hajj Ch. 6). Bin Baz and al Nawawi each have specific rituals that
must take place once at the grave itself. Both scholars say that one should enter with their right foot, as
they should in any other Mosque. Both of them suggest praying in the rawda, or garden, upon entering
the mosque. After the prayer both scholars inform the visitors to approach the Prophet s grave, then
the scholars have different steps.
Al Nawawi has a list of greetings that should be recited in front of his grave. The list is 31 lines long,
but if needed be he states they may be shortened into one line of: Peace be upon you O Messenger of
God . And thereafter they may convey salams (when someone wishes peace to another

Botti Performance Review
On February 10, 2017, I attended Chris Botti s nearly sold out show at the Hilbert Circle Theater. This
was the most brilliant performance I have ever seen. While I was not familiar with Botti before the
show, I had been asked on a date by a guy from church who was a fan of his work. After having dinner
at Oceanaire, we arrived at the Hilbert Circle Theatre, where women were dressed from casual attire
with black pants to full length ball gowns with mink fur coats, while the men wore suits or sports
coats with dress pants. Our seats were located in the middle of the theatre on the edge of the balcony
in front of the stage. Botti created an intimate atmosphere as he related the show to a Valentine s Day
theme. The velvety sound of Botti s trumpet flowed into the air when ... Show more content on

Each member of Botti s band performed a cadenza near the end of the show. The other musicians in
Botti s band included Geoffrey Keezer on piano, Richie Goods on bass, Lee Pearson on drums and
Ben Butler on the electric guitar. Keezer played at the mezzopiano dynamic level. Botti played at the
piannissmo dynamic level in The Look of Love but in some of his other songs he would begin in a
soft piano and crescendo to a mezzo forte with some subito changes from mezzo piano to forte. While
there was contrast due to the nature of jazz, most of the harmonies were consonant and the melodies
were conjunct and pleasant to hear. There was never a moment in the performance where I felt the
need for tension to be resolved, it was generally smooth. Overall, the wind instruments played
included a bass clarinet, clarinets, an English horn, flutes, a piccolo, oboes, and bassoons. Among the
strings heard were violins, violas, cellos, a harp, and double basses. Besides the trumpet, the concert
included other brass instruments such as French horns, trombones, and a

Descriptive Essay About The Zoo
The sun was shining, the sky was spotted with clouds, and the wind was whistling as it passed through
the trees. Overall, it was the perfect day to visit the zoo. Smiling, happy children bounded beside me
as I walked underneath the large, blue and yellow sign announcing The Colorado Zoo. As I walked
onto the sidewalk, I looked out over the habitats. The big, colorful signs advertising the exotic animals
brought from all over the world! Animals that were taken from their home, taken from their habitats,
and taken to a world where they are put on display. Animals who are forced to live out their lives in
zoos in unhealthy, degrading, and devastating ways. The first exhibit I encountered was the black
bears. Their thick, glistening fur was reflecting the light on and off as they paced the entire patch of
land. Walking back and forth, the bears footprints could be seen in the dirt as they slowly wove a path
into the land. One bear was just lying around in the blistering sun barely moving. No trees, no bushes,
and no pools of water to allow the animals to cool down. The more I looked, the more I noticed how
barren the display was. I couldn t stop thinking how sad the entire place looked when I compared it to
the bears natural habitat, how artificial the habitat probably seemed to the bears, and how in most
cases this life was the only one the bears would ever know. There was just a round prison with limited
space, in which three enormous bears lived. Most bears in the wild are solitary creatures who only
come together for mating season, but here they were forced to spend all day with each other. Forcing
myself to continue, I made my way to the the tigers. Animals are meant to roam miles and miles every
day. These animals are contained every hour of every day in small enclosures that prohibit the animals
from following their basic instincts. Looking at the tigers, I could very clearly see how this was
affecting the animals. The tigers whole body was round and looked like a balloon. Although it was an
adorable sight, I immediately noticed that the tigers were so fat they would roll around on the ground
instead of walking. I quickly stopped smiling when I realized just how miserable the tigers looked and

The Devil In Devolution Analysis
John Donahue, author of The Devil in Devolution, describes the devolution revolution as a shift in
power from the federal government to the state governments. This results from an unresolved
argument over trying to keep the balance between nation and state. Because of the devolution
revolution, Donahue believes that too much power is given to the state governments granting more
freedom to the states. Donahue argues that the role of the federal government has changed in recent
years, and is now taking more of a domestic role. This means that the state governments are focused
on solving their issues on welfare and other programs, while the federal government would fund their
solutions. Donahue states that this is not beneficial to the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For instance, in the late 1700 s, states had different forms of money which made taxation between
states extremely difficult. This caused many states to pay with paper money, which at the time, were
not worth as much as gold or silver. This resulted in the value of American currency to fall and tarnish
the country with a bad economic reputation. Next, presidential primaries are run by each state with
each one trying to hold their primary first. In 1992 California made the mistake of waiting too long to
hold its primary which made all of its votes irrelevant. Because of this, all of the states held their
primaries earlier in 1996 for fear that it may happen to them which resulted in them all being bunched
up with California s votes being just as irrelevant as before. Lastly, antipollution laws are important in
a federal system. Donahue predicts that if each state made up their own environmental laws, then they
would spare their citizens, businesses, and government agencies from economic burdens. This results
in the pollution to drift away to do its damage elsewhere throughout the nation. Donahue uses these
examples to explain how devolution has affected the past and how we must prevent it from happening
to better the future.
Overall, Donahue concludes that devolution would not benefit the United States. Devolution would
result in a time period similar to when the

Making Decisions In Homer s Timeless Epic, The Odyssey
Sometimes people are unable to control the direction their lives take. This can be a hard concept to
grasp, but one needs to understand that one cannot control every single detail or event in one s life,
and also cannot possibly predict what will happen in the future. Obstacles of every kind will strike,
whether these trials come in the form of day to day hardships, catastrophic natural disasters, or even
the fate of the gods. The only thing one can really do is adapt to the new situation and try to move
forward.
Making decisions can be extremely difficult but one of the worst feelings a person can have is having
a decision made for you. Although one may consider these changes in direction to be trivial, in truth
they may actually have ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Information security refers to the protection of information and its critical elements, including the
systems and hardware that use, store, and transmit that information. An ideal organization usually
comprises of the following layers of security put in place to safeguard its operations: physical,

A risk can be defined as the probability that something unwanted will happen. Risk analysis and
management therefore refers to the process of identifying risks to an organization s information assets
and infrastructure, and taking steps to reduce these risks to an acceptable level.

Reflection On Group Processes And Dynamics Essay
A Reflection on Group Processes and Dynamics
Working within a group or team is unavoidable for most people. We are involved in sports teams,
assignment groups, work teams, social groups and a variety of other groups and teams. Each of these
groups share one thing in common, that is each requires us to communicate in some way in order to
reach a shared goal or target. Therefore, it is imperative to know and understand how to work and
communicate effectively with others to maximise outcomes and productivity.
Tuckman proposes that groups develop via five stages; forming, storming, norming, performing and
finally adjourning (Archee, Gurney, Mohan, 2013a). The first stage, known as forming, involves
clarifying the task and purpose of the group, and identifying boundaries of both the task and
interpersonal behaviour (Archee et al., 2013a). For the presentation task we were randomly allocated
into groups. This worried me greatly as I have struggled in the past with group members who do not
contribute equally or see the task as important as other group members. To avoid this problem, the
group collectively determined and agreed upon a number of ground rules. For example, we decided
that all group members were expected to contribute equally to the presentation, all group members
were expected to attend and contribute at all group meetings, and all group members would adhere to
agreed upon deadlines. Having failed to do this in previous group assignments, this clarification stage

The Pros And Cons Of General Intelligence Tests
It is notable to mention that the individual s attainment measured by general intelligence tests are
indeed broader and the products of less formal and usually less recent learning experiences compared
to the ones measured by standardized achievement tests (Aiken, 2003c). Cohen et al. (2013b) regarded
that the primary purpose for this kind of measure is that it focuses on the test taker s level of
comprehension in the different subject matters. These types of tests are commonly structured to
include several subject areas divided into subtests and are most typically identified as test batteries.
Interestingly, achievement tests often serve as better predictors of school ratings than tests of
intelligence or special abilities. This does not connote, however, that test of achievement in a specific
subject can entirely replace tests of intelligence and special abilities. The accomplishments or
achievements determined by general intelligence tests are usually extensive and formed by less formal
and probably less recent learning experiences than those measured by standardized tests of
achievement. Moreover, for the reason that achievement tests usually evaluate knowledge of
information that has been methodically taught, scores on these tests are more influenced by coaching
than scores on intelligence tests.
There are a number of purposes carried out by achievement tests, the basic one is to determine how
much an individual know about certain topics or how well one can perform

Climate Change Is The Effect On The Planet
Climate Change Who would have ever believed that it has come to this? The Columbia Encyclopedia
(2006) has indicated that Planetary Climate Change is the gradual increase of the temperature of the
earth s atmosphere as a result of the increase in greenhouse gases since the time of the Industrial
Revolution. now, obviously there are some issues with this, and more than a few theories pertaining to
it; all of which relate to the primary culprits of the gases. Things like the burning of fossil fuels, as an
example. Other things like global deforestation, the clearing of huge swaths of Amazon Basin, and
even cattle! Unfortunately, there are a number of conflicting opinions as to whether or not any or all of
these are contributing factors of climate change. One of the major concerns pertaining to climate
change is the effects on the planet. As we, all know, along with the increase in atmospheric surface
temperatures on the earth, the weather begins to alter its patterns and change. This results in some
rather unusual events. The United Nations panel on Climate Change (2007) actually released some
rather disturbing findings. It reported that overall, there has been a considerable increase in the power
of global hurricanes ever since the 1970 s. The Poles are losing more and more of their ice in the
summer months, the North Pole loses almost all of it, glaciers are receding globally, and there is a
noticeable increase in the rising of the oceans...that s only the beginning! Each

Joyas Voladoras Essay
Brian Doyle s Joyas Voladoras first appeared in The American Scholar in 2004 and was later selected
for Best American Essays in 2005. Doyle s intended audience is the general population, though his
writing style attracts both the logical reader and the hopeless romantics who seek metaphors pointing
to love in any way. The beginning of the essay provides insight to general information about the
hummingbird, which holds the smallest, capable, and fragile heart in the world. He then explains the
significance of the blue whale s heart with comparisons, indicating that the blue whale holds a heart
the size of a room. He ends his essay by expressing that a human s heart is always closed due to the
fear of it breaking, remaining constantly ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
. . can be heard underwater for miles and miles (274) and Each [hummingbird] visits a thousand
flowers a day. They can dive at sixty miles an hour. They can fly backward. They can fly more than
five hundred miles without pausing to rest. (273) are examples of how Brian Doyle uses the factual
support, as well as emotional triggers to provide a semblance of deep understanding between the
rhetorician and the audience.
His writing style is poetic, fluctuating between short and concise to long, organic, and flowing
sentence structures. For example, he utilizes short, concise sentence structures to imitate the quick
fluttering of the hummingbird s flying patterns: Consider the hummingbird for a long moment. A
hummingbird s heart beats ten times a second. A hummingbird s heart is the size of a pencil eraser. A
hummingbird s heart is a lot of the hummingbird (273) . In contrast to the short, concise sentences, he
uses the opposite effect when describing the heart of the blue whale. Instead, he uses long sentences
and traditional words that are separated by commas to force his readers to read slowly and
deliberately: . . . for next to nothing is known of the mating habits, travel patterns, diet, social life,
language, social structure, diseases, spirituality, wars, stories, despairs, and arts of the blue whale
(274). He also uses other methods to evoke feeling from his readers.

research scientists form 25% of the overall personnel. All of them professionals. The corporation has
many patents and licenses for many of it s products, putting it away from strong competition by
protection itself .
Moreover, it has been noticed that Zoecon s strengths are noticeable in the market too. Since the
company s sales of chemicals for black flag and roach motel record 100$ million in one year, as well
as sales to PCOs reaching $2.5 billion in 1985 , We notice that PCOs represent the major segment for
Zoecon , speaking of strengths.
The corporation s weaknesses can be identified as follows: It is specialized in the production of the
chemicals themselves but have not experience in retail selling. Most of Zoecon s products do not have
Zoecon s brand name but are integrated as a base for companies like C. Johnson and sons, Boyle
Midway division. We can notice that Zoecon cannot reach the consumers directly without an
intermediary. Another weakness is that the insecticides are effective but may be harmful for people
and pets , on the other hand, Insect growth regulators are safe , but their effect are not noticeable
quickly which can quite a big problem for skeptic consumers . Normally consumers want results
immediately, or within a little time. But as the roach life cycle to maturity is long, one must wait 120
days to start noticing the

  • 2. Symbolism In The Pale Man Visually, the Pale Man is horrendous and intimidating, similar to the frog. The setting the pale man lives in also adds the monstrous characteristics he possesses. The room s ceiling is painted of the portraits of children that have been slaughtered by this monster. The scene shows a pile of shoes in one corner. On the other corner, the skeletons of the bodies of the children rest. The Pale Man sits at the end of a long table that is covered with food such as red grape, red fruit tarts, and red wine. The Pale Man has very long, dark, and grotesque finger nails. His eyeballs are placed on a tray in front of him, not on his face. His body is bare and has rigid skin. His only facial features are his lips and the sockets where his eyes belong. Jones describes, His face is molten skin. His skin hangs from him and his legs are emaciated, indicating his inherent lifelessness (44). Moreover, The Pale Man s monstrous characters mirror the monstrous people and events in the film. The visual aspects describe the bigger picture of society. The Pale Man takes away the childhood and innocence of children. In a similar sense, the Pale Man depicts the rob on individuality in an entire nation (Jones 44). He has deprived others of living an individual life. The portraits of children and pile of shoes also give insight on the state of Spain. These images, recall the historical reality of the holocaust... where piles of belongings, including the shoes, of its victims are displayed as a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Multiple Decisions In The Garden Of Forking Path The possibility of having multiple decisions occur at once is displayed in a short story written in 1941 called The Garden of Forking Paths . This concept makes the short story seem more like a giant puzzle that always has a missing piece. With the outer edges solved creating a frame narrative with the theme of time which the author wrote to confuse the reader. Said by Mr. Dewey, if you read this story and understand it then you didn t read the story properly. Meaning you didn t dive deep enough into the reading, just read around the edges, the frame, and didn t come close to or reach the core of the short story. You can compare the format of the story to a magic trick where the author is the magician. The magic trick the reader is presented with is how can multiple decisions occur at once. ... Another feature in the story that got my attention was when the main character Yu Tsun compared his childhood as a damp path zigzagged like those of my childhood. (1341) this sentence in the paragraph jumped out to me because it didn t seem to fit in with what Albert and Yu Tsun were talking about. Furthermore, Yu Tsun s childhood is never mentioned in the story, only in this one line. • 4. Role Of Guilt In Macbeth Focus Question: How do characters in the texts attempt to repress their guilt, and to what extent are they successful? Guilt is an emotion that we are all familiar with. It occurs when we act against our conscience, and violate our moral code, which as humans, we often do. The degree of our guilt depends on how significantly we view our misdeed. A psychotherapist, Maud Purcell, describes the more severe cases of guilt as the greatest destroyer of emotional energy and says that staying consumed with guilt will keep you from moving forward in a positive and productive way. Hence properly dealing with guilt is crucial, which would explain why it is explored in many texts, including: Macbeth by William Shakespeare, The Tell Tale Heart by Edgar ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Set in the 11th century Scotland, killing her king would have been the greatest crime Lady Macbeth could commit in her community. However, blinded by ambition, she chooses to ignore her conscience, seeking spirits to stop up the access and passage to remorse, that no compunctious visitings of nature shake my fell purpose. Lady Macbeth wants to be inhumane, as she wants to feel and show neither remorse nor compassion the emotions that are part of being human. Lady Macbeth s refusal to acknowledge her conscience may explain why at the start, we as readers cannot identify any traces of her guilt. For example, immediately after the regicide, unlike the guilt ridden Macbeth, Lady Macbeth declares that a little water clears us of this deed . We can infer that she believes her sin is so insignificant that mere water can wash it away; implying that there is no reason to feel guilty. Likewise, the narrator of The Tell Tale Heart at first also tries to ignore his conscience and hence his guilt. We know this because Poe initially positions us to see the narrator as a psychopath, someone who feels no empathy nor remorse, as the narrator murders an old man whom he loved and who had never wronged [him] . Unlike Lady Macbeth, object there was none the sole reason for his controlled and calculative murder was because of the old man s vulture eye which made the narrator s blood [run] cold and chilled the very marrow of [his] bones. After the successful murder and the cunning concealment of the body, the narrator smiled gaily as [the old man s] eye would trouble him no more. He is so cunning and has full control of his emotions that he even satisfied and convinced the police officers. Poe compels us to question the humanity of the narrator, as he seems emotionless and ruthless. Both characters denial of guilt seems to be successful at first. However, as the stories progress, it is clear ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Elie Wiesel Night Themes Elie Wiesel has said that all his works are commentary on Night, his one work that deals directly with the Holocaust. His novels are odysseys of a soul fragmented by the Holocaust, in quest of tranquillity, an attempt to move away from the night, reaching the shores of day. The key to understanding Wiesel, then, is his memoir in the form of a novella, Night. It is a slim volume that records his childhood memories of his hometown and his experiences in the concentration camp. It also contains the themes, images, and devices that recur throughout his novels. Night The opening chapter of Night begins with the social setting of Wiesel s native village of Sighet in Transylvania its inhabitants, their customs, their beliefs and his first meeting with Moché, the beadle, a character who forms a link to all his other works. Events occur rapidly. The disruption of normalcy with the invasion of the Germans, the forcing of the Jews into ghettos, their deportation, and the obliteration of the Jewish community are recorded tersely ... Moché appears in every book; his role is usually that of messenger in the tale he tells. Madness is an essential element in all Wiesel s works. On the one hand, it is indicative of the malady that struck the world during the Holocaust years. Wiesel, however, treats his madmen sympathetically. Their madness is not clinical but mystical. They are visionaries, saints, or messengers, endowed with the task of saving the world. As such, they become one with humankind, God, and creation. Wiesel s point is that madness can be a force of evil or good. Hitler and his Nazis were mad. Their madness was employed to destroy the world. • 6. Manifest Destiny And Western Expansion Manifest Destiny In the 19th century the settlers in America believed they had a mandate from God to expand west, this is called the Manifest Destiny. This expansion would involve not merely territorial aggrandizement, but the progress of liberty and individual economic opportunity as well. The Manifest Destiny shaped America throughout the years. Three main things that revolve around the Manifest Destiny are the moon race with Russia, western expansion, and how we found more resources and advancements in technology. Western expansion was the main topic in the Manifest Destiny, but the Manifest Destiny was not the only thing involved with western expansion. One of the other main factors in Western expansion was the louisiana purchase. In 1803, President Thomas Jefferson purchased the territory of Louisiana from the French government for $15 million. The land that the bought stretched from the Mississippi river to the Rocky mountains, and from Canada to New Orleans, it was also double the size of the United States. James K. Polk was the 11th presidents of the United states of America. His name is perhaps most closely associated with Manifest Destiny, because a year before he became the president, the Manifest destiny started the embody the governing philosophy of the Polk administration and its ardently expansionist aims. Polk s campaigning methods is the leading cause to his victory of becoming the president of America. He campaigned on an expansionist platform, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

At the same time love can be brave and unpredictable. The poem shows how challenging and demanding love can be. Love came from a need that was met by the speaker. • 9. Karl Marx And The Productive Power Karl Marx believed that growth is driven by the progression of the productive power by human. This productive power was also the rise and fall of an economic structure according to how progression is supported and downcast. Marx suggest that through communism it is possible to eliminate the constraint that exploitation has on the society s laborers. The mode of production involves the methods humans use to produce the resources to sustain the provision for survival and to improve society as a whole. The two components to the mode of production are the means of production (what is used) and the relation of production or property (labor, capital). The mode of production is the union of creative powers and the relations of production. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Feudalism The very definition of the term feudalism as it relates to the 19th century is that of a dominant social system in medieval Europe, in which the nobility held lands from the Crown in exchange for military service, and vassals were in turn tenants of the nobles, while the peasants (serfs) were obliged to live on their lord s land and give him homage, labor, and a share of the produce, notionally in exchange for military protection. Thus, the feudalist mode of production was constructed on a mixture of the enormous landholdings belonging to the feudal lords and the lesser smallholdings of the direct makers, the serfs, who were misused by added economic restraint, as distinctive of feudalist power. This is a form of stratification. Some Principles of Stratification by Kingsley Davis and Wilbert Moore advocate that stratification is needed in order to make a society functional. The lords (upper class) have the power while the serfs (middle/lower class) tends to the labor. However, Max Webber s Class, Status, Party defines stratification as taking something which is not yours to take. This is a justified cause to change the function of society. The lords demanded that the labor of the serfs be a right belonging to the lords. The mode of production under feudalism permitted the exploitation of labor by forcing the people to the very land that they worked and not rendering them the economic freedom they deserved. Her response to his pursuit was Your person is handsome, your present very well, your letter is witty and extraordinary well writ; but what are all these accomplishments to a virgin who values nothing but virtue? The author intended for the reader to know that even though Violenta was of a lower class than Roderigo, that she was not willing to be used as a mistress or to submit to his needs without getting married. This part of the story is considered sexual exploitation because he is in a way pressuring her into giving up her virtue. • 13. Personal Reflection As I was reading this book, I kept having awe moments because I have either seen the material covered in real time or have thought about it. Out of the five career strategy components, the two that stood out for me were extending experiences and networking/connecting. Reflecting on my educational and professional career, these two themes have been the most relevant. Extending experiences When I graduated from UC Santa Barbara (UCSB), I expected to get a job within the month. I believed that by simply having my degree I would stand out from the group, little did I know this was completely false. I had a resume with little experience and realized it was my lack of previous experiences that would haunt me. In addition to having little experience, I never visited a career counselor at UCSB to assist me with the proper structure of a resume and cover letter. Feeling unprepared and disappointed at myself about how I used my time while at UCSB, I fell into a minor depression. After every denial email from employers, my depression grew. However, it was one experience that truly shaped my job search perception. I applied to any and every job in the market and got the opportunity to interview for AT T for a clerk position. • 14. Spending On The Construction Of New Sports Facilities Spending on the construction of new sports facilities grew at a staggering rate post 2007. A total of 13.4 billion is being spent on around 81 arenas and other major as well as minor sport facilities in and around the U.S. at least through 2010. The association of exceedingly high cost has put the subject of public financing of new stadiums and playing arenas under exceptional examination. The development of another stadium or playing arena is a costly job which these days can often surpass a few hundred million dollars. In the pre 1990 s period the vast majority of the sports facilities were for the most part supported through public financing, however with the progression of time as the financing prerequisites for developing new sports facilities grew, so did the financing techniques. Public financing for major sports arenas is mainly done by heavily subsidizing the construction process of these stadiums. The main argument of local governments favoring the use of tax payers money for construction of sports facilities is that these facilities will better the entire area and city as a whole. The main sources of public financing for building new sports facilities include; sales taxes, general obligation bonds, beneficiary taxes, tax increment bonds, revenue bonds and proximity taxes. Given the complicated and often conflicting arguments regarding stadium financing, the only advisable course of action for policymakers is to make the debate more open and honest. If ... I did not want this nightmare scenario for my family, so I started researching death with dignity .......I quickly decided that death with dignity was the best option for me and my family (Maynard). Maynard felt that undergoing a treatment for getting rid of the tumor would be more painful for her and her family. No one can give Brittany and her family a hundred percent guarantee that tumor would actually go away forever. Doctors confirmed that if Brittany goes under treatment, she will be the same person she was before treatment meaning that treatment will have side effects that might affect her for her entire life. The Gods In Geoffrey Philp s The Cattle Of The Sun God As the suitors, Odysseus and most of the people in the Greek world could tell you it is a lot better to have the gods on your side than as your enemy. Odysseus journey home in the Odyssey was a great example of how the gods can affect your life. One the reasons his journey took so long was because of the gods intervening. Although without the help of a few gods, he would not have gotten home at all. In the image, it shows a ship far away from home. It also shows waves that signify Poseidon not letting Odysseus go home. The image is very good at showing the hopelessness the ship in. Also, Geoffrey Philp, in his poem The Cattle of the Sun God shows a similar point of the power and what can happen if the gods are betrayed. In Philip s writing, it shows only how awful the gods can be. It is about Odysseus s crew making a dumb decision and the gods acting as their own system of Karma. In the poem, Philip uses the consequences of the mortals mistake to demonstrate the power of the gods. The mortals in Greek world have learned about how awful it is to have a god as your enemy. • 20. The Misuse Of Technology In The Veldt By Ray Bradbury We rely on technology nowadays to do simple tasks for us like dry our hair, research answers on the web, and watch television for entertainment and for the news. Technology is being over used for very simple things, what if we relied on them too much as a whole for us to forget doing simple task? Would it be helpful to us that we rely on technology to do everything for us? In the story The Veldt , the author Ray Bradbury communicates that the misuse of technology can lead to unforeseen disadvantages, he demonstrates the theme through his uses of imagery and symbolism. The author Ray Bradbury uses imagery of the setting, which is the house, to develop the misuse of technology. The story begins with the Hadley s being delusional about their children, thinking there is something mentally wrong with them because of what the children has portrayed in the nursery. The nursery in the story is described as an African Veldt, ...presently an African veldt appeared, in three dimensions, on all sides, in color reproduced to the final pebble and bit of straw. This quote implies how the nursery can be realistic due to the children thoughts. By doing this, Bradbury made the parents scream at the end of the story as the lions started to edge slowly forward towards them. That sun. He could feel it on his neck, still, like a hot paw. And the lions. And the smell of blood. This sentence suggests how the African Veldt looks like a menacing place to be because of the lions that are being ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Whether someone wants to get up to date with the latest events around the world or just wants to find out if their favorite team has won, media is the way to go. We trust the media to keep the whole world updated and connected. But, is the media exploiting our blind trust by subconsciously manipulating us through subliminal advertising? After the experiment, there were numerous reports in the news regarding the results which stated that there was an increase in the sales of popcorn and Coke after the experiment began. Although these results were not given much credibility due to the absence of a control group, the exposure of this experiment made people realise that they were being targeted subconsciously. A big component of subliminal advertising is repetitive advertising. This method has been used a lot in the past and is still being used today. Examples of this can be found all around us. If you turn on the television these days. you will see commercials for a specific product multiple times during a short period of time. This strategy is applied in order to reinforce the image of that product in the consumer s mind. If a person sees a commercial a few times, then he or she may or may not buy the product. Their behaviour will depend totally on the fact that did they like what they saw in the commercial or not. But if they are shown the commercial again and again, then they become curious about the product and this is enough to initiate a trial purchase. A.S.C. Ehrenberg, a professor of ... The Emancipation Proclamation And Its Consequences The Emancipation Proclamation And Its Consequences During his election campaign and throughout the early years of the Civil War, Lincoln vehemently denied the rumour that he would mount an attack on slavery. At the outbreak of fighting, he pledged to restore the Union, but accept slavery where it existed , with Congress supporting his position via the Crittendon Johnson Resolutions. However, during 1862 Lincoln was persuaded for a number of reasons that Negro emancipation as a war measure was both essential and sound. Public opinion seemed to be going that way, Negro slaves were helping the Southern war effort, and a string of defeats had left Northern morale low. A new moral boost to the cause might give weary Union soldiers added impetus in the fight. Furthermore, if the Union fought against slavery, Britain and France could not help the other side, since their peculiar institution was largely abhorred in both European nations. Having eased the American public into the idea, through speeches that hinted at emancipation, Lincoln finally signed the Proclamation on January 1st 1863, releasing all slaves behind rebel lines. Critics argued that the proclamation went little further than the Second Confiscation Act and it conveniently failed to release prisoners behind Union lines. Analysis Of Cather s A Pair Of Silk Stockings Cather and Chopin on Feminism Women have been taught that, for us, the earth is flat, and that if we venture out, we will fall off the edge. ~Andrea Dworkin. This quote shows how society has put this idea into the heads of women in every new generation that a women has to play the certain household role while men go out and work. It portrays that women can t venture past the expectations that an earlier society put on women s shoulders. Throughout time, women have played the role of the quiet house wife. Society enforces the expectations that women should follow society s demands over their own desires. In Chopin s story A Pair of Silk Stockings the main character, Mrs. Sommers, wished to escape the typical role of a busy housewife and wanted to live independently in the life of luxury. My works earned me the name of The living counter argument against slaveholder s claims that slaves lacked enough intelligence to become functional American citizens (Douglass, para. 10). After the publication of my first autobiography, many believed that the publicity garnered from the book would gain the attention my last master Hugh auld. They thought that he would come for me and suggested that I travel to Ireland like many other slaves had done before. In Ireland, the sense of freedom and equality there astounded me. For the first time in my life, I felt like an ordinary citizen. Nobody gazed at me as like I was a wild livestock roaming down a street. I can enter the same buildings through the same doors as white people can. Nobody comes to me and says anything when I sit with them. No one offers objection and tries to guide me out saying We don t serve niggers here. (Douglas, para 27). I spent nearly two years in overseas traveling and giving lectures in churches, I have traveled this route over a million times. I met Thomas Clarkson in 1846. He was one of the last living abolitionist in England who helped bring an end to slavery in Great Britain colonies. During this travel, I also finally became legally free, thank to the help of Anna Richardson and her sister Ellen and others who raised funds to by my freedom. • 40. Pilgrimage to the Prophet Muhammad’s Grave Essay The Prophet Muhammad died in 632 CE. He was believed to be the Seal of the Prophets, meaning the last prophet; therefore his grave is a very sacred place (A Concise Introduction to World religions, 210 215). Visiting the Prophet s grave is a controversial issue. Scholars have different perspectives on traveling to his grave, each based on the Islamic Law, shari ah. Al Nawawi and Bin Baz each have differing yet similar rulings on the proper way of Pilgrimaging to the Prophets place of burial. Abd al Aziz Bin Baz has a very specific set of circumstances on visiting the Prophet Muhammad s grave. He suggests that someone may not visit Medina with the sole purpose of seeing his grave. Bin Baz explicitly states: It is not permissible to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... 6). The two scholars have several differences between their ideas on visiting the grave of the Prophet. Bin Baz suggest that one should visit the grave before or after Hajj. He also forbids women from travelling to the grave of the Prophet. Bin Baz justifies this by stating that Muhammad has cursed women who go to graves (Fatawa of Shaykh Abdulaziz b. Baz Volume 16). Al Nawawi recommends visiting it only as one is leaving Mecca, after Hajj. He also has a more strict policy on visiting the graves. Al Nawawi suggests that the visitor must perform ghusl before arriving in Medina, in which a ritual washing takes place. After they have completed this then they must put on their cleanest clothes (The Explication of the Rites of Hajj Ch. 6). Bin Baz and al Nawawi each have specific rituals that must take place once at the grave itself. Both scholars say that one should enter with their right foot, as they should in any other Mosque. Both of them suggest praying in the rawda, or garden, upon entering the mosque. After the prayer both scholars inform the visitors to approach the Prophet s grave, then the scholars have different steps. Al Nawawi has a list of greetings that should be recited in front of his grave. The list is 31 lines long, but if needed be he states they may be shortened into one line of: Peace be upon you O Messenger of God . • 41. Botti Performance Review On February 10, 2017, I attended Chris Botti s nearly sold out show at the Hilbert Circle Theater. This was the most brilliant performance I have ever seen. While I was not familiar with Botti before the show, I had been asked on a date by a guy from church who was a fan of his work. After having dinner at Oceanaire, we arrived at the Hilbert Circle Theatre, where women were dressed from casual attire with black pants to full length ball gowns with mink fur coats, while the men wore suits or sports coats with dress pants. Our seats were located in the middle of the theatre on the edge of the balcony in front of the stage. Botti created an intimate atmosphere as he related the show to a Valentine s Day theme. The velvety sound of Botti s trumpet flowed into the air when ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Each member of Botti s band performed a cadenza near the end of the show. The other musicians in Botti s band included Geoffrey Keezer on piano, Richie Goods on bass, Lee Pearson on drums and Ben Butler on the electric guitar. Keezer played at the mezzopiano dynamic level. Botti played at the piannissmo dynamic level in The Look of Love but in some of his other songs he would begin in a soft piano and crescendo to a mezzo forte with some subito changes from mezzo piano to forte. While there was contrast due to the nature of jazz, most of the harmonies were consonant and the melodies were conjunct and pleasant to hear. There was never a moment in the performance where I felt the need for tension to be resolved, it was generally smooth. Overall, the wind instruments played included a bass clarinet, clarinets, an English horn, flutes, a piccolo, oboes, and bassoons. Among the strings heard were violins, violas, cellos, a harp, and double basses. Besides the trumpet, the concert included other brass instruments such as French horns, trombones, and a ... • 42. Descriptive Essay About The Zoo The sun was shining, the sky was spotted with clouds, and the wind was whistling as it passed through the trees. Overall, it was the perfect day to visit the zoo. Smiling, happy children bounded beside me as I walked underneath the large, blue and yellow sign announcing The Colorado Zoo. As I walked onto the sidewalk, I looked out over the habitats. The big, colorful signs advertising the exotic animals brought from all over the world! Animals that were taken from their home, taken from their habitats, and taken to a world where they are put on display. Animals who are forced to live out their lives in zoos in unhealthy, degrading, and devastating ways. The first exhibit I encountered was the black bears. Their thick, glistening fur was reflecting the light on and off as they paced the entire patch of land. Walking back and forth, the bears footprints could be seen in the dirt as they slowly wove a path into the land. One bear was just lying around in the blistering sun barely moving. No trees, no bushes, and no pools of water to allow the animals to cool down. The more I looked, the more I noticed how barren the display was. I couldn t stop thinking how sad the entire place looked when I compared it to the bears natural habitat, how artificial the habitat probably seemed to the bears, and how in most cases this life was the only one the bears would ever know. There was just a round prison with limited space, in which three enormous bears lived. Most bears in the wild are solitary creatures who only come together for mating season, but here they were forced to spend all day with each other. Forcing myself to continue, I made my way to the the tigers. Animals are meant to roam miles and miles every day. These animals are contained every hour of every day in small enclosures that prohibit the animals from following their basic instincts. Looking at the tigers, I could very clearly see how this was affecting the animals. The tigers whole body was round and looked like a balloon. Although it was an adorable sight, I immediately noticed that the tigers were so fat they would roll around on the ground instead of walking. I quickly stopped smiling when I realized just how miserable the tigers looked and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 43. The Devil In Devolution Analysis John Donahue, author of The Devil in Devolution, describes the devolution revolution as a shift in power from the federal government to the state governments. This results from an unresolved argument over trying to keep the balance between nation and state. Because of the devolution revolution, Donahue believes that too much power is given to the state governments granting more freedom to the states. Donahue argues that the role of the federal government has changed in recent years, and is now taking more of a domestic role. This means that the state governments are focused on solving their issues on welfare and other programs, while the federal government would fund their solutions. Donahue states that this is not beneficial to the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For instance, in the late 1700 s, states had different forms of money which made taxation between states extremely difficult. This caused many states to pay with paper money, which at the time, were not worth as much as gold or silver. This resulted in the value of American currency to fall and tarnish the country with a bad economic reputation. Next, presidential primaries are run by each state with each one trying to hold their primary first. In 1992 California made the mistake of waiting too long to hold its primary which made all of its votes irrelevant. Because of this, all of the states held their primaries earlier in 1996 for fear that it may happen to them which resulted in them all being bunched up with California s votes being just as irrelevant as before. Lastly, antipollution laws are important in a federal system. Donahue predicts that if each state made up their own environmental laws, then they would spare their citizens, businesses, and government agencies from economic burdens. This results in the pollution to drift away to do its damage elsewhere throughout the nation. Donahue uses these examples to explain how devolution has affected the past and how we must prevent it from happening to better the future. Overall, Donahue concludes that devolution would not benefit the United States. Devolution would result in a time period similar to when the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 47. Reflection On Group Processes And Dynamics Essay A Reflection on Group Processes and Dynamics Working within a group or team is unavoidable for most people. We are involved in sports teams, assignment groups, work teams, social groups and a variety of other groups and teams. Each of these groups share one thing in common, that is each requires us to communicate in some way in order to reach a shared goal or target. Therefore, it is imperative to know and understand how to work and communicate effectively with others to maximise outcomes and productivity. Tuckman proposes that groups develop via five stages; forming, storming, norming, performing and finally adjourning (Archee, Gurney, Mohan, 2013a). The first stage, known as forming, involves clarifying the task and purpose of the group, and identifying boundaries of both the task and interpersonal behaviour (Archee et al., 2013a). For the presentation task we were randomly allocated into groups. This worried me greatly as I have struggled in the past with group members who do not contribute equally or see the task as important as other group members. To avoid this problem, the group collectively determined and agreed upon a number of ground rules. For example, we decided that all group members were expected to contribute equally to the presentation, all group members were expected to attend and contribute at all group meetings, and all group members would adhere to agreed upon deadlines. Having failed to do this in previous group assignments, this clarification stage ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 48. The Pros And Cons Of General Intelligence Tests It is notable to mention that the individual s attainment measured by general intelligence tests are indeed broader and the products of less formal and usually less recent learning experiences compared to the ones measured by standardized achievement tests (Aiken, 2003c). Cohen et al. (2013b) regarded that the primary purpose for this kind of measure is that it focuses on the test taker s level of comprehension in the different subject matters. These types of tests are commonly structured to include several subject areas divided into subtests and are most typically identified as test batteries. Interestingly, achievement tests often serve as better predictors of school ratings than tests of intelligence or special abilities. This does not connote, however, that test of achievement in a specific subject can entirely replace tests of intelligence and special abilities. The accomplishments or achievements determined by general intelligence tests are usually extensive and formed by less formal and probably less recent learning experiences than those measured by standardized tests of achievement. Moreover, for the reason that achievement tests usually evaluate knowledge of information that has been methodically taught, scores on these tests are more influenced by coaching than scores on intelligence tests. There are a number of purposes carried out by achievement tests, the basic one is to determine how much an individual know about certain topics or how well one can perform ... The Columbia Encyclopedia (2006) has indicated that Planetary Climate Change is the gradual increase of the temperature of the earth s atmosphere as a result of the increase in greenhouse gases since the time of the Industrial Revolution. now, obviously there are some issues with this, and more than a few theories pertaining to it; all of which relate to the primary culprits of the gases. Things like the burning of fossil fuels, as an example. Other things like global deforestation, the clearing of huge swaths of Amazon Basin, and even cattle! Unfortunately, there are a number of conflicting opinions as to whether or not any or all of these are contributing factors of climate change. One of the major concerns pertaining to climate change is the effects on the planet. As we, all know, along with the increase in atmospheric surface temperatures on the earth, the weather begins to alter its patterns and change. This results in some rather unusual events. The United Nations panel on Climate Change (2007) actually released some rather disturbing findings. It reported that overall, there has been a considerable increase in the power of global hurricanes ever since the 1970 s. The Poles are losing more and more of their ice in the summer months, the North Pole loses almost all of it, glaciers are receding globally, and there is a noticeable increase in the rising of the oceans...that s only the beginning! Doyle s intended audience is the general population, though his writing style attracts both the logical reader and the hopeless romantics who seek metaphors pointing to love in any way. The beginning of the essay provides insight to general information about the hummingbird, which holds the smallest, capable, and fragile heart in the world. He then explains the significance of the blue whale s heart with comparisons, indicating that the blue whale holds a heart the size of a room. His writing style is poetic, fluctuating between short and concise to long, organic, and flowing sentence structures. A hummingbird s heart beats ten times a second. A hummingbird s heart is the size of a pencil eraser. A hummingbird s heart is a lot of the hummingbird (273) .
