Essay on Social Studies Interview and Standards Investigation
Running Head: INTERVIEW AND STANDARDS INVESTIGATION
Interview and Standards Investigation

EED 465 Curriculum, Methods, and Assessment: Social Studies
Leah Barley
December 8, 2011
Interview and Standards Investigation Social studies is a complicated subject for teachers to teach and
for students to learn because it encompasses so many different disciplines. On top of that, society is
characterized by increasingly rapid social and technological changes that affect what social studies
content is being taught to students (NCSS, 1988). For many years students have been forced to learn
low cognitive level information that lacks meaning and fails to transfer to real life situations. For these

In spite of the demands of high stakes testing, when Ms. Smith realized that social studies was
beginning to slowly disappear from the curriculum altogether she decided to take a stand. Ms. Smith is
now the sixth grade English and World History Department Head at Claremore Public Schools.
Although she does teach from a textbook, Ms. Smith employs numerous hands on activities to convey
subject matter to the students. For each section the students must create a project that coincides with
the lesson. Her favorite section is on the Middle Ages in Europe. During this lesson the entire sixth
grade participates in meaningful learning activities such as making head gear and shields, memorizing
poems from this era that they must recite to their classmates, and learning the requirements for
becoming a knight or a lady. Students earn certificates for acts of chivalry and the individuals who
have the most certificates at the end of the unit are awarded a crown as 6th grade King and Queen.
The unit culminates with a field trip to the Renaissance Festival and the Castle of Muskogee, a
landmark in Oklahoma, which is where the Renaissance Festival is held (Personal Communication, T.
Smith, December 12, 2011). These activities are much more meaningful than simply reading the text
and completing the section review. This allows students to

An Analysis of the Movie, Blood Diamond Essay
The movie Blood Diamond was released in 2006 and featured Leonardo Di Caprio as an arms
smuggler whose main goal is to obtain a seemingly priceless diamond from a villager during the civil
war in Sierra Leone. The film, although it has been called mild in comparison to reality, depicts the
brutality that inhabitants of diamond villages were subjected to. The film was nominated for five
Academy Awards, and won numerous other awards. The film marker is trying to raise awareness of
the illicit conflict diamond trade and reinforcing the Kimberley process1 and showing how it will stem
the flow of conflict diamonds. This is successful mainly due to the public outburst after the movie.
The great impact of the movie has caused diamond ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He also is trying to show us that the people at Van De Kaap are not truly trying to solve the problem.
Instead they are aggravating the situation. The filmmaker aims to discourage racism and show that
both blacks and whites can work together to solve various problems. In the movie, Danny Archer had
been forced to work together with Solomon Vandy, but they grew in terms of mutual understanding
even though they had different purposes for finding the diamond (Danny profit, Solomon to find
family). From our research, cooperation among Africans is needed to effectively solve the flow of
conflict diamonds. An African Union was set up to speak on behalf of the African nations.
Discouraging racism will always be important in Singapore not only because the local population
consists of many different races, but also because of the apparent pro Bumiputra policies which have
drawn flak from some racial communities in Malaysia. Besides, the filmmaker wants to show how an
ineffective government can lead to suffering of its citizens. In the movie, Free Town4 fell into the
hands of the RUF where many were killed and buildings were razed, due to the failure of the
government to effectively enforce security in the region. This is supported by one of the arguments
from research stating that strong governments are needed to effectively stem the flow of conflict
diamonds out of Sierra Leone into Liberia. Relating to Singapore, the

Describe Mariam s Microsystem Paper
1) Define the Macrosystem according to Urie Bronfenbrenner s ecological systems theory. According
to the Bronfenbrenner theory macrosystem would be defined as the society and subculture in which an
individual belongs. Macrosystem focuses on the individual s belief system, lifestyle, patterns of social
interaction and life changes. (Berns, 2013, p. 22). a. Describe the macrosystem in Montgomery
Alabama in 1955.
In my opinion, the macrosystem in 1955 in Montgomery Alabama would be considered a high context
macrosystem. When looking at how their society functioned, their culture emphasized tradition,
cooperation and group identity. The society at the time operated on a belief system that segregated
blacks and whites and believed that colored ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Her microsystem also consisted of her peers, such as her friend she worked with named Claudia and
also the church community that she met with often. I think the Thompson family would also be
considered a part of her microsystem. Odessa is around Miriam and Mary Catherine for long periods
of time during the day and has been working with the family for 9 years, showing that she has
certainly formed relationships with the members of their family.
b. Describe Mariam s microsystem.
Mariam s microsystem consists of her family, which includes her husband Norman, her daughters
Mary Catherine and Sarah. Odessa would be considered part of her microsystem as well and I believe
she would fall into the peer category. Mariam is also very active in her community and has many peers
that she socializes with and groups that she participates in, such as Jr. League, and club luncheons.
The media also plays a role in her microsystem through the television and more specifically the news
broadcast they would watch.

It first started when blacks can through the middle passage, civil rights, and reconstruction period.

The Early Years Learning Framework For Australia
The Early Years Learning framework for Australia Document is important to have in our Schools; as it
talks about how Children are confident and involved learners, we need our student s to be confident
and involved in all aspects of learning in the classroom. Having this in place means children get more
hands on experience in the classroom and more room for activities, exploring and learning new things
and not being afraid to step out of their comfort zone to learn. This means more creativity from
students and their individuality to reveal and explore more. Having this in place means that children
can connect with nature and the world and be able to communicate and have upright people skills
from a young age. The early years learning ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There are still similarities between the early child hood teaching scene and higher grades, they still
need inquiry based learning, scaffolded tasks and they still need to work in groups and learn from
peers. The differences are, not as much play based learning, Students do become more independent
learners so they do not need as much explicit instructions, or help as they have developed enough to
do this on their own. Students will change the way they Show what they know with more extended
writing and more detailed work. Students are all different in the way that they learn it is important to
keep learning accessible to students with a diverse range of needs. It is important to keep open ended
tasks so that there is opportunity for all students from all different entry levels. Having the Early
Childhood learning framework in place means that our students can have all this in the classroom and
be able to have these learning experiences which I think is extremely important.

Calcutt The Prominent Place Of Mother
Calcutta is the prominent place of Mother Teresa s missionary work. The city was founded by
Charnack. In 1690 it became an East India Company settlement. In 1756 Calcutta was invaded by
Bengal and its Muslim ruler. The Bengalis punished and killed the British, in what is known as the
Black Hole of Calcutta. The British quickly took offense and attacked the Bengalis. The British were
able to win back Calcutta. Calcutta started to become a major source of trade, which rooted the class
divisions even deeper. The city was flourishing and providing England with the money they had hoped
for. After the abolition of the East India Company in 1858, Calcutta, unfortunately, transformed into a
city overflowing with impoverished and ill people.
Then in 1905 The Partition of Bengal took place. This separated the Hindus from the Muslims. The
Partition, as well as the creation of Pakistan, which became dominantly Muslim, led to mass
immigration of refugees. Most of the citizens lived in bustis, or slums, continuing to today.
In 1977 the Communist party rose to power, with the help of the Bengali elite. It served as the longest
reigning elected communist government ever. They were able to gain power due to the horrid living
conditions and the confusion caused by the refugees escaping into Calcutta. Calcutta is a place of
poverty and religious conflict. Mother Teresa grew up involved in charity and neighborly love. Mother
Teresa was born Ganxhe Agnes Bojaxhiu in 1910 in

Modern Chinese International Relations And Its Effects On...
Modern Chinese International Relations and Its Effects on the Chinese Economy
Introduction
In 2013, referencing the previous year, the U.S. Commerce Department released import and export
figures totaling 3.82 trillion USD, while China s customs administration released figures amounting to
3.87 trillion, making China the world s largest trading economy (Bloomberg News 2013). This news
signifies that China s trading policy and partners must be a major target of scrutiny with newfound
importance. In this paper, I will discuss the history of Chinese trade policy, what constitutes Chinese
trade policy, namely China s use of free trade agreements (FTAs) and treaties, who China s major
trading partners are and relations with each one, and how ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Based upon Chinese trade history, one can extrapolate the China was averse to trade for a long period
due to past experiences of exploitation, but once it rediscovered the benefits of trade, it decided to
leverage its population base, geographic size, and resources to dominate trade. Furthermore, China
joined numerous international economic organizations including the World Bank, IMF, the GATT, the
Multi Fiber Agreement, etc. in the mid 1980s. By becoming more open to trade, China was more open
to foreign capital, allocating it the funds to grow as a trading entity. Thus, due to lack of choice and by
overcoming an aversion to foreigners, caused in no small part to a horrible history of opium addiction
and massacres, China was able to become a massive trading country.
Who s Who? After China joined the World Trade Organization, it realized it was unable to accomplish
its trade goals of recognition of a market economy status and preferential access to regional factors of
production using traditional multilateral routes, for these goals are not in spirit with multilateral
treaties and instead decided to achieve such goals with bilateral agreements (Mallon and Whalley
2004). Multilateral treaties, by nature often restrain member nations, guaranteeing that one nation does

Comparing The Convict And The Bishop
The Convict and The Bishop Have you ever wondered what it is like to have a convict in your home?

together. Valjean has been traveling for four days, but has no food or bed until he meets the bishop.
The bishop is helpful and wants the convict to redeem himself. Valjean is mistreated by everyone
except for the bishop. The bishop is all for redemption, so he wants to help Valjean become a better
person. Valjean was an ex convict who just got out of jail and was walking to town. When he made it
to town after four days of walking he was tired and hungry. He traveled to the inn after his long
journey and asked for a room and food. The inn was filled with guest, but the boss said that the cook

him to learn and get better because of his mistakes. Valjean is trying to earn back his trust, by helping
whenever he can. What thing that proved he was sorry was that he didn t hurt the bishop when he slept
with his door open. The bishop later calls Valjean his brother, because that s what he is in the bishop s
eyes. He prayed asking to take the evil out of Valjean s heart and replace it with good, and that meant
a lot to Valjean. This brought happiness to both people, and shows you can be forgiven for your

Descriptive Experience Essay
A bright array of lights dotted the dark landscape beneath the plane where I sat It was late, around
midnight, and the day had stretched beyond measure beginning with customs in the Atlanta airport.
About 1:30 a.m. we landed in the airport at San Jose International Airport. I was exhausted but the
beauty of the landscape would be only a shimmer of what was to come. The second I stepped off of
the plane I felt anxious and hot, very hot. This being my first time outside of the United States was a
completely new experience and everything was foreign to me. After we retrieved our bags from the
baggage claim we headed out and were promptly picked up by a bus which carried us out of the city
of San Jose, Costa Rica through mountains and jungle and delivered us to our cabins where we would
be staying for the week. After a combined sixteen hours of travel we were here. As we stood on top of
what seemed to me to be a mountain overlooking the city I was taken aback I have never seen
anything like it. It was amazing. The next morning we woke up as early as 5:00 a.m. to get ready for
what was to be a long day. Each morning we would travel to a church where we would hold a worship
service and eat breakfast, after each breakfast and worship service we would go off to our respective
places where we would work with a construction team building a basecamp for the ministry we were
helping or we would go out and minister at the schools in the local area. We spent most of the first day

What Is The Theme Of Silence In The Blue Angel
The Blue Angel is a German film directed by Josef von Sternberg, from 1930. In 1929, there a clear
division in film, the division was between sound and silence. Sound was a major attraction to
audiences during the Great Depression. The Blue Angel was Germany s first complete movie with
speech. There are four types of soundtrack materials in films, such as speech, music, noise, and
silence. I am focusing on silence, which contains three subcategories, such as absolute, virtual, and
selective. The characters in The Blue Angel who are associated with silence are Professor Rath and the
clown. Silence for both characters signifies madness and sadness. Firstly, the two characters in The
Blue Angel that I associate with silence are the clown ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Professor Rath does not react to the maid throwing his bird in the fire and remains silent. The silence
in that scene can be categorized as virtual because there was a room tone. Secondly, the qualities that
are associated with silence in The Blue Angel are madness and sadness. An example, of madness, is
when Professor Rath is in the strait jacket he is silent and deranged. Additionally, this scene is an
example of virtual silence because a room tone can be heard. In comparison, to the start of the film,
Professor Rath becomes mad as the film progresses, although he was silent in various parts of the film.
Furthermore, Professor Rath s foolishness led him to become mad because he failed to realize he was
throwing away his life. Throughout the five years he is married to Lola Lola he becomes more and
more silent as the years pass. Especially, in the scene where he returns to his classroom and dies this is
an example of him realizing he should have never left his position. Additionally, this scene is an
example of absolute silence because you do not hear any sound while he is slumped over on the desk
and the man attempts to wake him up. Another example of madness is when Professor Rath is aiding
the magician in front of his former colleagues. In this scene, Professor Rath is portrayed as a fool and
it is degrading because of the intelligent man he once was. The foolishness led

Napoleon III s Impact On France And Germany
Napoleon III and Bismarck both had huge impacts on France and Germany respectively. Both men
had great diplomatic skills and strong personalities which lead to all sorts of reforms within their
nation. Both men are known for their leadership skills and for the Franco Prussian war, and even
though the war technically ended by military means, both of their diplomatic skills had major impacts
on the dynamic and outcome of the war. It is unclear to many how the war ended with a Prussian
victory; and this is an attempt to explain what led to the war, and how those factors resulted into a
Prussian victory.
Napoleon III was born on April 20th 1808 as Charles Louis Napoleon Bonaparte. His father is
Napoleon s younger brother, making him one of Napoleon s nephews. After the imprisonment of
Napoleon after Waterloo in 1815, he and his family were forced into exile by the French returning
monarchy. He was not born as the heir to the Bonaparte claim to the French throne, but the premature
death of Napoleon s only son and the death of his own older brother made him the apparent heir to
claim. He took the claim very seriously, and even attempted multiple coups to gain power, all of which
failed and sentenced to prison. His chance to power came when the last king of France was forced to

Analysis Of Blue Poles
Russian painter and pioneer of abstract modern art, Kandinsky s art and ideas impacted and inspired
many generations of artists, from his students at Bauhaus, to the Abstract Expressionists post World
War 2. Kandinsky contested the boundaries of conventional art making practice through his rare
artistic style that departs from the strict conventions of realism and naturalism formed by the
Academie, and seeks to convey inner spiritual experience by challenging intentions and emotive
capacities. He sought to convey a universal, visual and spiritual language of abstract forms and
colours, along with interpreting his synesthetic experience of music, to create artworks that
transcended cultural and physical boundaries.

Performed on canvas laid flat on the floor, Pollock makes no physical contact with the canvas whilst
painting. The canvas seems to convey a telling of Pollock s vigorous working methods and turbulent
life to the audience, as the work consists of glass shards and footprints embedded into the canvas.
Pollock s boundary breaking manipulation of surface ultimately encourages artists to imitate his new
and non traditional methodologies within art making.
Modernist critic, Clement Greenberg coined the term of Abstract Expressionism, and was largely
responsible for the growing reputation of Pollock within the art world. Greenberg assisted in
determining the reaction to Blue Poles by the audience. In The Nation, 20/1/1945, Greenberg supports
Pollock through advocating his artwork in a public expanse, American painting is much in need of all
three qualities (that is, boldness, breadth, and the monumental ), and it is significant that Pollock, who
manifests all three, has already begun to exert an influence, though he has been before the public
hardly more than a year. Greenberg upholds Pollock s name with high importance, displaying his
significance to the Abstract Expressionist movement. Pollock s heavily influential style was rather
radical in its extremity in his time, through his unconventional material practices and drip techniques,
redefining the conventions of traditional painting, in order to

Task 1. Acquire basic understanding about wastewater treatment systems. Dr. Choudhury pointed me
into the right direction. I conducted my own literature review. Most of the research I studied fell into
one of the following categories: Different groundwater supply systems such as dug wells, driven
wells, bored wells, and drilled wells. There are two different types of pumps. Dynamic pump and the
positive displacement. Each of these major pumps has little pumps. The positive displacement pump
has the rotary and reciprocating pump. The dynamic pump has the centrifugal and het pump. The
water quality of the water used for consumption must be potable and must meet the minimum
standards of qualities. The different aspects of water ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Waste sludge drawn from these operations is thickened and processed for ultimate disposal, usually
either land application or landfilling. Preliminary treatment processes include coarse screening,
medium screening, shredding of solids, flow measuring, pumping, grit removal, and pre aeration.
Chlorination of raw wastewater sometimes is used for odor control and to improve settling
characteristics of the solids. Primary treatment involves sedimentation, and is the process by which
about 30 to 50 percent of the suspended solid materials in raw wastewater are removed. Sedimentation
must precede all biological filtration operations. The organic matter that remains after primary
treatment is extracted by biological secondary treatment process to meet effluent standards. Secondary
treatment commonly is carried out using activated sludge processes, trickling filters, or rotating
biological contactors. Tertiary wastewater treatment is additional treatment that follows primary and
secondary treatment processes. It is employed when primary and secondary treatment cannot
accomplish all that is required. For example, phosphorus removal may be needed for wastewaters that
are discharged to receiving waters that are likely to become eutrophic, or enriched with nutrients.

Will Sewage Treatment Plants Have Effect On Water Birds ...
Will sewage treatment plants have effect on water birds persistence and distribution?
Longji Deng, 100189430, Group 8
Introduction:
Anthropogenic climate warming has elevated the global temperature, and it has risen faster during the
last 40 years. There is no doubt that the temperature change has affected the biological process of
birds such as wintering, migration and breeding. (K Meller 2016) Also the increasing temperature can
cause a poleward geographical distribution.( Rachael H, et al, 2006)
It is certain that artificial ponds have positive effect on water birds breeding and migration as ponds
can provide more food and a safe space, these factors finally result in changing the distribution.
(SΓ‘nchez Zapata J A, AnadΓ³n J D, Carrete M, et al. 2015) .
Sewage treatment plants are really common and important infrastructures as they play a significant
part in daily life. Almost every river people can find at least one plants. Due to they can be considered
as special artificial ponds, they may have effects on distribution and persistence of water birds.
According to some article, we find that they do have effect of shorebirds (Jose A. Alves, et al, 2012)
However, there are no articles about if the sewage treatment plants have effect of water birds
distribution and persistence. If they do have effect, we still try to find out it s a negative effect or a
positive effect. We also try to find is there any different effects between the secondary plants and the

Cultural Groups In The Algonquin People
The Algonquin people, Jesuit missionaries, and French laborers are three separate cultural groups that
are important to understand in the context of Native American and French peoples interactions. Each
group plays a significant role in the history of early French exploration and colonies in North America.
When focusing on each group, it is important to understand how each cultural group is portrayed, and
who is portraying them. The better we can understand these interactions the more we can learn from
our past. Defining each cultural group itself is complex. There were separate groups both within
Native Americans and the French people. Identifying these groups, who belongs to them and who
doesn t, is not always black and white and sometimes gray areas can occur. Distinguishing Algonquin
people from other Native Americans is an easy task. It can be done by looking at the area in which
they live, who they are allies with, and who they trade with. Typically, Algonquin people lived in the
New England area, they were allies with local native tribes that were regularly fighting the Iroquois
people, and they tended to trade and work with French colonists. They are usually described as
savages, and portrayed as uncivilized people that are extremely strong. Father Paul Le Jeune, a Jesuit
living in French North America, describes them, They are tall, erect, strong, well proportioned, agile;
and there is nothing effeminate in their appearance (Paul Le Jeune, America Firsthand, p.

Essay On Traditional Construction Of History
The Issuses of Traditional Construction of History Does history over centuries truly define the past as
its origin? Dr. Francis Pryor re examines the origin of Britain in one of his series about Britain AD,
Britain AD The Not So Dark Age. His reinvestigation finds out a handful of evidences that disprove
the written history regarding how Britain s culture was formed. Pryor effectively explores the flaw in
history through the idea of invasion, cultural artifacts, and the creation of identity. In the narrative, the
idea of Anglo Saxon invasion is clearly not reliable. To begin with, there are a plenty of Rome
buildings that might have a different purpose than people traditionally believe in. To illustrate, Pryor
has a discussion with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Beside the invasion, cultural artifacts is also an aspect that is misjudged towards people s genesis.
Firstly, cultural artifacts are merely shown the adaption to what is better, rather than expression of one
s origin. For example, Pryor has a conversation with Sam Lucy, an archaeologist, about the change in
burial rights in Britain during the end of The Roman period; Lucy mentions how people were buried
with different objects: a cross shaped branch, and this approach isn t a continental import. It s idea
came ultimately from the continent, but it is a British product (Sam Lucy). This reveals that the idea of
the object comes from outside of Britain, but British people are the one who modify and execute that

Energy, Renewable And Renewable Energy
Energy Future Energy has been a major part of humanity ever since the first human learned how to
harness safety, warmth, and energy from fire. Today, with seven billion humans on Earth, it is possible
that our constant need for energy could destroy our beautiful and fragile planet. One way to solve this
problem is to start using renewable energies such as solar and wind.
There are two types of energy, renewable and nonrenewable. Fossil fuels such as coal and petroleum
for example, are a non are renewable energy. They cannot be recreated once used and they take
hundreds of millions of years to form, much longer than the history of humanity. The other less
popular methods such as hydropower and solar power on the other hand, are renewable energy. They
can produce energy at a constant rate and can be recreated by one way or another. (Micah and Warhol)
To find the solution to energy problem, find the problem first, take a look at our current energy
sources and find the problems. The first thing people think of when talking about fuel is gasoline or
diesel, both of which come from petroleum. Petroleum is a fossil fuel that releases heat as energy
when burned. The heat released from burning drive turbines, air cylinders that can power machinery.
Petroleum is used mostly as fuel to engines such as cars and planes. (EPA) Petroleum is important for
allowing the modern world that we know to exist.
But even with these easy to see benefits, petroleum is not and should not be the

Children With Asd ( Autism Spectrum Disorder )
Summary:
Parron and colleagues conducted a study where children with ASD (autism spectrum disorder) were
asked to recognise biological motion through the use of PLDs (point light displays). They aimed to
find whether high functioning children with autism showed the same specific problem with perceiving
emotional material in PLDs in comparison to typically developing children. Secondly, they wanted to
explore the degree performance on these tasks and whether it is comparable to high functioning adults
with ASD. The use of PLDs depicted different motions depending on the four conditions which
included, a person s actions, subjective states, emotional condition and everyday objects. Participants
were asked to describe the PLD as accurately as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Additionally, autistic children seem to have difficulty in recognising bodily gestures and context on an
emotional level, yet seem to compare similarly to typically developing children on recognising simple
actions (Hubert et al, 2007). ASD consists of various mental disorders such as autism, Asperger s
syndrome, and childhood disintegrative disorder (DSM IV). Autism is undeniably a part of ASD,
defined as a triad of impairments, it consists of specific deficits which may be more susceptible in
recognising certain types of motion (Wing and Gould in 1979 as cited in Mitchell Fenja, 2013). As
Parron et al hypothesised to find differences in autistic children, the findings are more generalised to
ASD rather than autism thus reducing the internal validity of the findings. Gepner and Mestre in 2002
found those with autism showed less postural reactivity in comparison to those with Asperger s
syndrome whom showed increased postural activity (as cited in Greffou et al, 2011). This suggests,
regardless of the subcategories within ASD, there are variations amongst the specific mental disorders,
which affects the internal validity of this study.
The use of PLD is prominent in studies which have undeniably influenced Parron et als research,
particularly when measuring recognition of biological motion (Moore, Hobson Lee, 1997 as cited in

Meerkat Manor: Hunter Gatherers
After watching Meerkat Manor, I believe that the group of Meerkats, called Whiskers, most resemble
the hunter gatherers. To start off, the elders within the Meerkat group would continuously hunt and
gather the food for offspring and those who cannot take of themselves anymore. Just like traditional
hunter gathers, the men would leave to gather the larger preys while the women would stay and
babysit the kids while gathering nuts, berries, herbs, and small prey which they would use to feed the
children of the group to take care and support them through their lives.
Furthermore, the hunter gatherers travel in large groups called hordes, which is what the whiskers
have been shown to do within Meerkat Manor. These large groups of Meerkat claimed land using
scent, and followed the rules that were set up the leader, who was usually a female within the hunter
gatherer society. In this case, Flower was the head of the horde as she made the rules and commands
that the group must follow. For example, when Flower s offspring became pregnant, she beat her
because she broke the rules as only Flower was allowed to get married if she wished to do

Essay on Reintroducing the Wolf to Yellowstone
Reintroducing the Wolf to Yellowstone
Wolves have always been a symbol of the wild, free in spirit and roamers of the land. These animals
are considered majestic and protectors of the wilderness. They have always roamed the western
United States, although their population has fluctuated over time. Over the past 10 years wolf
reintroduction into Yellowstone National Park has been a controversial topic to those of the United
States. As of 1995, wolves have been reintroduced into the park. This has come with some strong
opposition and yet has prevailed. The future of the wolf in Yellowstone park is now looking bright,
although not certain since there still are those who want them banished again.

Created in 1872 by the department of the Interior, the park was developed by congress for
preservation of its natural curiosities or wonders and prohibiting wanton destruction of its fish and
game (defenders). Wolves were protected in Yellowstone.
Wolves lived in the park for forty years, with claimed increasing nuisance to outsiders. The people
around Yellowstone were complaining that the wolves, basically a nuisance to society, were killing
animal. Thus after discussions and studies, congress agreed and the wolf extermination began. In
1914, the Yellowstone wolf extirpation campaign began after congress appropriated funds for
destroying wolves, prairie dogs, and other animals injurious to agriculture and animal husbandry on
public lands (defenders). The killing of wolves continued until 1926 when the last two wolf pups of
some 136 wolves were killed on a poisoned bison carcass (defenders). The eradication of wolves by
hunting and other means soon cleared out most wolves in all areas of the United States. By the 1940 s
humans had eliminated red and gray wolves from almost all of their historic range in the contiguous

In addition to duty to reporting, I was quiet surprised at how mandated Laws requiring reporting and

information I gathered from the State of Maryland, Board of Professional Counselors/therapists and
the ACA code of ethics websites, contradictory. According to the discussion, on the Video, a third
party can be granted access into a victim s records, but according to both Maryland and ACA code of

As shown by the exhibit 4 and 5, the expected outcome of each of the targeting scenarios is as the
following:
Scenario I could get a net income as flat as last year s, even with the increase of most generation
operation fees. Without the additional investment, this scenario tries to use getting more audience

Scenario II try to get more income with risky investment in additional programming fee and more
narrow specific audience targeting. This could make TFC more professional and make the advertising
information more efficiency.
Scenario III expect the revenue growth by increase the viewer and sale more advertising even in high
prices. The expensive programming investment was flatted by the larger group of audience subscribe

American Pie Essay
American Pie
With every aspect of our lives we are making a point, arguing a belief, or refuting some other aspect of
our existence. Aesthetic pieces, most avidly poems and songs, argue a message both in the lyrics and
in the meaning posed between the lines. American Pie, in a multitude of ways, argues that American
lives and memories are closely intertwined with the music of the time period. Not only does American
Pie argue a message it also pulls many generations together. Today, thirty years after the initial release,
American Pie still has an effect in our music and continues to be popular with all age groups. Don

Essentially, the late 1960s and early 1970s are an in between stage for America, where people were
exploring the many options in their lives. The release of American Pie in 1971 was a landmark in pop
music history because the song was eight minutes and thirty two seconds long. Later, it was divided
up into two parts and then turned into the version that is known today (www.don mclean.com). Now
that the time period that surrounded the release of American Pie is established it is easier to understand
the song because it can be read more in context.
The music of American Pie harkens back to a time of rock n roll, pianos, and acoustic guitars. A time
when the music was upbeat and peppy, causing you to want to jump up and dance. However, the
music during the time of its creation lacks the calming effect that is acquainted with the music of
previous eras. American Pie embodies many qualities of the music during the 1950s, including the
simplicity of the chord structures overall, the clear vocals, and well known and used instruments. With
the use of simple but repetitive chords, Don McLean is able to shift the attention from the musical
facet of the song back to the lyrics and the individual person listening to it.
At the opening of American Pie, Don McLean starts the song at a slow pace but then progressively
speeds up the pace through the first chorus. After the first chorus the music

A Midsummer s Night Dream Essay
Everyone at one point or another judges someone else and makes the wrong assumption. People have
that habit, but sometimes people can fool others. After all, people dress and act how they want to look

suggests the theme that people have hidden layers and disguises which can lead others to foolish
choices. People can fool other people, occasionally with the intent of mischief or a common mistake.

This is the first time that I watched the movie Monsters Inc if not for the given task for us to write a

Foremost of the McKinsey 7S model is the element of strategy. Monsters Inc., as a business company,
derives its product from scared children to produce energy. The children, as a source of energy were

person. This could affect the output of the company into greater heights and create better products. If
not for discoveries, like in this case, research can also help the company perform economically for
better results or output.
The second element is structure. The movie presented a direct structure from source to extractor to
consolidation or reports to management. Even with the discovery of a new energy source, Monsters
Inc maintained its operational structure. I think this is the most economical way for the company to
achieve its objective and this suits well with my personality a simple and straight forward approach

I believe that the abuse of power by the state is a greater threat to the American people today, than
terrorist actions by a small number of people, which is why I chose a quote from Eleanor Roosevelt.
All of us in this country give lip service to the ideals set forth in the Bill of Rights and emphasized by
every additional amendment, and yet when war is stirring in the world, many of us are ready to curtail
our civil liberties. We do not stop to think that curtailing these liberties may in the end bring us greater
danger than the danger we are trying to avert. Eleanor Roosevelt I believe that by giving up our civil
liberties we are allowing our government to invade our privacy, judge us for our religious beliefs and
tell us what we are

Maltese Falcon as a Film Noir Essay
Maltese Falcon as a Film Noir
Film Noir is a French word which means: dark or black film. This is very fitting as Film Noir and the
Maltese falcon are stories of dark deceptive people who often cannot be trusted. Film Noir is a good
example of this as the story is about a detective called Sam Spade who gets dragged into the quest for
the Maltese Falcon with a compulsive liar Kasper Gutman. The Maltese Falcon is a large bird made of
solid gold worth millions. The main six conventions of Film Noir as I can see are
The plot, lighting , dialogue, body language, stock characters and camera angles.
The film is about a group of 5 people fighting to find and keep the golden jewel encrusted ... Show

Spade looks as he is the bad deceptive one, this is another twist to the plot. O Shaughnessy is on the
left, the light on her face is very different. Her face is lit up so her whole face is visible, her eyes are
large and she looks very innocent. Light is often projected on the females faces as to make them look
vulnerable and truthful, when is this instance Bridgid is the opposite. Another example is when Spade
is being questioned by two investigators, in this scene Spade sits in the middle of them both so his
face is visible but only the back of the other two investigators. There is only one lamp in this frame
and all the rays are focused on Spade, this as with the others makes him look innocent, which in this
case he is, but with the twists you are not sure.
Outdoor lighting is quite similar, outside scenes are usually lit by headlights and street lamps. A scene
outside is a good place for someone to hide as the beam of light is often focused on one direct spot. A
good example is when Miles Archer

Table Tennis And Ping Pong
Why is table table tennis so similar to ping pong? Well they are exactly the same thing! Table tennis/
ping pong began in the 1880s, and was later trademarked in the United states by Parker Brothers, the
board game company. Like most other sports, table tennis had humble beginnings as a parlor game but
really it was open to anyone with access to a table, paddle, and a ball. In 1922, The Ping Pong
Association was formed but got renamed to The Table Tennis Association because they are the same
thing. Over the years table tennis popularity grew, table tennis became so popular because In 1902 a
visiting Japanese university professor took the game back to Japan, where he introduced it to
university students. Shortly after, a British salesman, Edward Shires, introduced it to the people of
Vienna and Budapest, [ . . . ]. Due to the popularity of table tennis and how successful it became it in
1902 the sport ended up going to Japan due to a Japanese University professor that was visiting. He
liked the game so much that when he went back to Japan he introduced it to his university students.
The sport also ended up going to Britain and spread pretty far to the Sunderland and Plymouth. In
1922, an All England Club was formed, which boasted such luminaries as Jack Hobbs the cricketer
and other famous names of the time from the world of sport The sport was so popular it was like

Barefoot Vs Shoid Lab Report
Introduction: Running, it is the simplest of movements: right foot, left foot, right foot, and the simplest
of actions: run, relax, and breathe. Many individuals participate in this form of exercise because they
enjoy how good it makes them feel, they enjoy feeling the strength of their body while they run, and
they enjoy using it as a way of relieving their stress. There are many other factors to take into
consideration that effect a persons running such as, the type of footwear they are using, the distance
they are running, and the speed of which they are running at. The objective of the main article was to
research and compare the differences in stride length, hip, knee and ankle angles in runners when
running two different conditions, shod and barefoot, also while running at two ... Show more content

The participants ran for five minutes at there own pace to warm up. To randomize the order the
participants were randomly assigned which condition to complete first, barefoot vs. shod. During the
experiment the participants ran for two minutes at 3.05 m*s^ 1, rested for two minutes, then ran for
two minutes at Then had a two minute rest period and completed the same procedure for the other
condition. Each participants stride length was assessed using the distance measured between the first
and second initial contact of the left foot. An alternative way that this experiment could have been
conducted would be to increase the number of participants being studied. A greater number of
participants would diversify the level of athleticism. Another change that could be made to this
experiment would be to test using multiple types of shoes, like a minimalist shoe, a stability shoe, and
a motion controlled shoe to see if the type of shoe causes an effect on stride length. Overall the
changes made in this alternative method, would diversify the results so they could be applied to more
individuals, and not just

My Reflection Of My Writing Course
At the beginning of this course, I was convinced that success would come relatively easy. I had
imagined there being few assignments with the guidelines for papers and assignments being broad. I
soon came to the realization that I would have my compositional skills pushed to the limit. Although I
entered the course with a adequate level of competency in writing, I significantly had my knowledge
and skills in academic writing expanded as showcased in the progression of my assignments. I have
learned proper procedure for MLA formatting, as well as proper rhetorical analysis, as opposed to
synopsis. My writing has become more refined as well as focused. I am better able to concentrate on
proper analysis, so while this is my biggest area of improvement, ... Show more content on

As I said in my response, From what Lamott expresses, writing a first draft is more about the product.
(Osom 1). This is something I previously didn t take into account in my earlier writing, and the most
important lesson I learned from the Shitty First Drafts reading. Previously, I was more interested in
sending one final draft as a work for assessment, but this course allowed me to realized that ultimately
that method wasn t the most efficient. I now realize that the process of a series of draft, specifically the
first one allows me to exhaust poor ideas or overall papers structure, saving the best for last. Within
the Watch and Write: When to quote, paraphrase or summarize video, I gained new perspective on
how to efficiently provide citations for the duration of a paper. This is summarized in the response
where I explain, When sources have been identified they can be credited through three ways, quoting,
paraphrasing, and summarizing. All of these functions serve different purposes. (Osom 1). This quote
brings home the message of my response, and provided new information to me that I previously wasn
t aware regarding these means of citations. While I was clear on quotations and when to use them, I
would previously often fluctuate on paraphrasing and summarizing. I was clear on their definitions for
the most part, but I assignment enlightened me on when which was appropriate. This clarification,
allowed me to progress as a writer and make my works more coherent and precise. Finally, with the
assignment, Genre Awareness and Reflective Writing: Campbell and Latimer: Combating Formulaic
Writing , I was prompted to reevaluate the structure of my writing and whether or not I was being
governed by a formula for my essays and other writings. This is concept is abridged when I said, I find
that the structure of a five paragraph essay while fairly efficient, loses the originality and

Personal Attirity In Boys And Girls By Alice Munro
In finding personal integrity, courage is a double edged blade as it can sustain integrity in certain
circumstances and drive an individual further away in others. In Alice Munro s short story Boys and
Girls the main character begins by developing a sense of personal integrity without external influence,
but soon loses sight of herself as pressure from both herself and her society outpace her aspirations. As
she grows older the values she placed in feats of daring is interchanged with misplaced rebellion as
she attempts to fight her expectations and role in her family. Though she has courage in abundance for
an untested child, the constant reproach and patronizing attitude of the people around her restricts her
ability to flourish. In this text Munro suggests that well employed courage is needed to sustain an
already developed integrity, though it must act with some source of external support to succeed.
In the beginning the girl finds integrity without the need of courage, since she is free from external
pressures to be anything but herself. During the day she directs her focus to her father s foxes, finding
herself enjoying these tasks without the pressure to do so from others. When assisting her father when
tending to the foxes she finds pride in her work, turning red in the face with pleasure when praised as
her father s hired hand. In the absence of anyone telling her to work towards being something, she
naturally finds herself fufilling her integrity by simply doing what she enjoys and takes pride in. As a
child accustomed to the arduous farmwork and unchallenged by societal standards, pursuing what she
finds integrity does not require her to display any bravery. Without conflicting demands, the girl finds
herself lacking in anything to be courageous against. Although she believes that she is going above
and beyond to help her father, characterized by her smugness at carrying the real watering can , her
integrity does not require her to be actively courageous. The pride she finds in her tasks and her love
for helping her father is real, but her interests are untested, unquestioned and involve little effort on
her behalf to uphold. Since she finds fox farming as familiar as the smell of pine

What Are The Changes In American Culture
Cultures Change
Not all cultures are the same as The United States. America is the melting pot and it is hard to find a
set culture because we are a still relatively young country. In many other countries such as India,
China, Japan, or Pakistan they do have a set of traditions that do matter and they are taken very
seriously. The book of short stories, Interpreter of Maladies, readers are able to see a difference in the
way people from India are brought up in relation to people from mainly the New England area of The
United States. The story strongly indicates coming of age, finding the American dream, and family
drama by either loss or new beginnings. Immigration is a big topic often talked about in America
leading up to the upcoming ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Stakeholders Influences On Tesco PLC
isions that businesses make are called stakeholders. Most decisions affect a number of stakeholders.
Stakeholders have increased influence on company business activities in the early 21st century as
community citizenship and social responsibility have been consistently integrated into business
management. Customers, employees, communities and business partners are among key stakeholder
groups that carry weight in company decisions and activities. Understanding the impact of these
stakeholders on business is especially important for small businesses.

The government have a certain amount of money they get from Tesco through tax, so if Tesco s in
come is low then the money they government get is also low. They also play a key role in decision
making. The government could decide to raise tax depending on Tesco prices for example, this would
influence decisions made by Tesco. Here is an example of how the government have an influence on
Tesco and their plans on initiating change. Tesco planned to create 180 new jobs through the
expansion of a Tesco store but were in ruins after the Government threw out the scheme. Tesco had
been granted planning permission by Stoke on Trent City Council to knock down the existing Trent
Vale store and replace it with a bigger one. But the proposal went to a planning inquiry after
complaints from Newcastle Borough Council, North Staffordshire Regeneration Partnership and
businesses who feared trade would be taken away from Newcastle town centre. Now, Secretary of
State for Communities and Local Government Eric Pickles has thrown out Tesco s plan to increase the
store s size from 5,342 square metres to 9,383 square metres. This is proof of the massive impact the

Toyota s Recommendation Response At The World s Largest...
Q3: Toyota s recommended response to Volkswagen s ambition of becoming the world s largest
automobile manufacturer, based on the analysis of current market trends, would be to somewhat
disregard them, rather they should focus on developing their own competitive advantages that allowed
them to achieve the title of market leader. Volkswagen plans to grow in Chinese and Indian markets
(De Moraes, 2016). They also aim to double sales in America by 2018 (Kresge and Weiss, 2015), by
following their clean diesel strategy (The Economist, 2015a: 15). Nevertheless, the 2015 emissions
scandal destroyed this ambition (Farrell, 2015). Widespread recalls and suspended sales led to a loss
of market share (Kresge and Weiss, 2015) and fostered a bad reputation within America (The
Economist, 2015b). In 2015, Toyota defended their lead in sales ahead of Volkswagen (The Telegraph,
2015). Toyota developed cost advantages with their production system , Volkswagen found it difficult
to replicate such optimisation due to union pressure rife in Germany (De Moraes, 2016: 465).
Furthermore, to defend their title, Toyota adopted strategies of lean manufacturing, strict supplier
control and highly efficient distribution (Schonberger, 1994). Toyota can strengthen their leadership
by developing more environmentally friendly technologies. Volkswagen s emission scandal
encouraged the demise of diesel, opening up lucrative industries in methane, hydrogen and electricity
powered vehicles (The

  • 2. Essay on Social Studies Interview and Standards Investigation Running Head: INTERVIEW AND STANDARDS INVESTIGATION Interview and Standards Investigation Sarah Woods Grand Canyon University EED 465 Curriculum, Methods, and Assessment: Social Studies Leah Barley December 8, 2011 Interview and Standards Investigation Social studies is a complicated subject for teachers to teach and for students to learn because it encompasses so many different disciplines. On top of that, society is characterized by increasingly rapid social and technological changes that affect what social studies content is being taught to students (NCSS, 1988). For many years students have been forced to learn low cognitive level information that lacks meaning and fails to transfer to real life situations. For these ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In spite of the demands of high stakes testing, when Ms. Smith realized that social studies was beginning to slowly disappear from the curriculum altogether she decided to take a stand. Ms. Smith is now the sixth grade English and World History Department Head at Claremore Public Schools. Although she does teach from a textbook, Ms. Smith employs numerous hands on activities to convey subject matter to the students. For each section the students must create a project that coincides with the lesson. Her favorite section is on the Middle Ages in Europe. During this lesson the entire sixth grade participates in meaningful learning activities such as making head gear and shields, memorizing poems from this era that they must recite to their classmates, and learning the requirements for becoming a knight or a lady. Students earn certificates for acts of chivalry and the individuals who have the most certificates at the end of the unit are awarded a crown as 6th grade King and Queen. The unit culminates with a field trip to the Renaissance Festival and the Castle of Muskogee, a landmark in Oklahoma, which is where the Renaissance Festival is held (Personal Communication, T. Smith, December 12, 2011). These activities are much more meaningful than simply reading the text and completing the section review. This allows students to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. An Analysis of the Movie, Blood Diamond Essay The movie Blood Diamond was released in 2006 and featured Leonardo Di Caprio as an arms smuggler whose main goal is to obtain a seemingly priceless diamond from a villager during the civil war in Sierra Leone. The film, although it has been called mild in comparison to reality, depicts the brutality that inhabitants of diamond villages were subjected to. The film was nominated for five Academy Awards, and won numerous other awards. The film marker is trying to raise awareness of the illicit conflict diamond trade and reinforcing the Kimberley process1 and showing how it will stem the flow of conflict diamonds. This is successful mainly due to the public outburst after the movie. The great impact of the movie has caused diamond ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He also is trying to show us that the people at Van De Kaap are not truly trying to solve the problem. Instead they are aggravating the situation. The filmmaker aims to discourage racism and show that both blacks and whites can work together to solve various problems. In the movie, Danny Archer had been forced to work together with Solomon Vandy, but they grew in terms of mutual understanding even though they had different purposes for finding the diamond (Danny profit, Solomon to find family). From our research, cooperation among Africans is needed to effectively solve the flow of conflict diamonds. An African Union was set up to speak on behalf of the African nations. Discouraging racism will always be important in Singapore not only because the local population consists of many different races, but also because of the apparent pro Bumiputra policies which have drawn flak from some racial communities in Malaysia. Besides, the filmmaker wants to show how an ineffective government can lead to suffering of its citizens. In the movie, Free Town4 fell into the hands of the RUF where many were killed and buildings were razed, due to the failure of the government to effectively enforce security in the region. This is supported by one of the arguments from research stating that strong governments are needed to effectively stem the flow of conflict diamonds out of Sierra Leone into Liberia. According to the Bronfenbrenner theory macrosystem would be defined as the society and subculture in which an individual belongs. Macrosystem focuses on the individual s belief system, lifestyle, patterns of social interaction and life changes. (Berns, 2013, p. 22). a. Describe the macrosystem in Montgomery Alabama in 1955. In my opinion, the macrosystem in 1955 in Montgomery Alabama would be considered a high context macrosystem. • 9. Calcutt The Prominent Place Of Mother Calcutta is the prominent place of Mother Teresa s missionary work. The city was founded by Charnack. In 1690 it became an East India Company settlement. In 1756 Calcutta was invaded by Bengal and its Muslim ruler. The Bengalis punished and killed the British, in what is known as the Black Hole of Calcutta. The British quickly took offense and attacked the Bengalis. The British were able to win back Calcutta. Calcutta started to become a major source of trade, which rooted the class divisions even deeper. The city was flourishing and providing England with the money they had hoped for. After the abolition of the East India Company in 1858, Calcutta, unfortunately, transformed into a city overflowing with impoverished and ill people. Then in 1905 The Partition of Bengal took place. This separated the Hindus from the Muslims. The Partition, as well as the creation of Pakistan, which became dominantly Muslim, led to mass immigration of refugees. Most of the citizens lived in bustis, or slums, continuing to today. In 1977 the Communist party rose to power, with the help of the Bengali elite. It served as the longest reigning elected communist government ever. They were able to gain power due to the horrid living conditions and the confusion caused by the refugees escaping into Calcutta. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Based upon Chinese trade history, one can extrapolate the China was averse to trade for a long period due to past experiences of exploitation, but once it rediscovered the benefits of trade, it decided to leverage its population base, geographic size, and resources to dominate trade. Furthermore, China joined numerous international economic organizations including the World Bank, IMF, the GATT, the Multi Fiber Agreement, etc. in the mid 1980s. By becoming more open to trade, China was more open to foreign capital, allocating it the funds to grow as a trading entity. Thus, due to lack of choice and by overcoming an aversion to foreigners, caused in no small part to a horrible history of opium addiction and massacres, China was able to become a massive trading country. Who s Who? After China joined the World Trade Organization, it realized it was unable to accomplish its trade goals of recognition of a market economy status and preferential access to regional factors of production using traditional multilateral routes, for these goals are not in spirit with multilateral treaties and instead decided to achieve such goals with bilateral agreements (Mallon and Whalley 2004). Descriptive Experience Essay A bright array of lights dotted the dark landscape beneath the plane where I sat It was late, around midnight, and the day had stretched beyond measure beginning with customs in the Atlanta airport. About 1:30 a.m. we landed in the airport at San Jose International Airport. I was exhausted but the beauty of the landscape would be only a shimmer of what was to come. The second I stepped off of the plane I felt anxious and hot, very hot. This being my first time outside of the United States was a completely new experience and everything was foreign to me. After we retrieved our bags from the baggage claim we headed out and were promptly picked up by a bus which carried us out of the city of San Jose, Costa Rica through mountains and jungle and delivered us to our cabins where we would be staying for the week. After a combined sixteen hours of travel we were here. As we stood on top of what seemed to me to be a mountain overlooking the city I was taken aback I have never seen anything like it. It was amazing. The next morning we woke up as early as 5:00 a.m. to get ready for what was to be a long day. Each morning we would travel to a church where we would hold a worship service and eat breakfast, after each breakfast and worship service we would go off to our respective places where we would work with a construction team building a basecamp for the ministry we were helping or we would go out and minister at the schools in the local area. In 1929, there a clear division in film, the division was between sound and silence. Sound was a major attraction to audiences during the Great Depression. The Blue Angel was Germany s first complete movie with speech. There are four types of soundtrack materials in films, such as speech, music, noise, and silence. I am focusing on silence, which contains three subcategories, such as absolute, virtual, and selective. The characters in The Blue Angel who are associated with silence are Professor Rath and the clown. Silence for both characters signifies madness and sadness. Professor Rath does not react to the maid throwing his bird in the fire and remains silent. The silence in that scene can be categorized as virtual because there was a room tone. Secondly, the qualities that are associated with silence in The Blue Angel are madness and sadness. An example, of madness, is when Professor Rath is in the strait jacket he is silent and deranged. Additionally, this scene is an example of virtual silence because a room tone can be heard. In comparison, to the start of the film, Professor Rath becomes mad as the film progresses, although he was silent in various parts of the film. Furthermore, Professor Rath s foolishness led him to become mad because he failed to realize he was throwing away his life. Throughout the five years he is married to Lola Lola he becomes more and more silent as the years pass. Especially, in the scene where he returns to his classroom and dies this is an example of him realizing he should have never left his position. Additionally, this scene is an example of absolute silence because you do not hear any sound while he is slumped over on the desk and the man attempts to wake him up. Another example of madness is when Professor Rath is aiding the magician in front of his former colleagues. • 14. Napoleon III s Impact On France And Germany Napoleon III and Bismarck both had huge impacts on France and Germany respectively. Both men had great diplomatic skills and strong personalities which lead to all sorts of reforms within their nation. Both men are known for their leadership skills and for the Franco Prussian war, and even though the war technically ended by military means, both of their diplomatic skills had major impacts on the dynamic and outcome of the war. It is unclear to many how the war ended with a Prussian victory; and this is an attempt to explain what led to the war, and how those factors resulted into a Prussian victory. Napoleon III was born on April 20th 1808 as Charles Louis Napoleon Bonaparte. His father is Napoleon s younger brother, making him one of Napoleon s nephews. After the imprisonment of Napoleon after Waterloo in 1815, he and his family were forced into exile by the French returning monarchy. He was not born as the heir to the Bonaparte claim to the French throne, but the premature death of Napoleon s only son and the death of his own older brother made him the apparent heir to claim. He took the claim very seriously, and even attempted multiple coups to gain power, all of which failed and sentenced to prison. His chance to power came when the last king of France was forced to ... Analysis Of Blue Poles Russian painter and pioneer of abstract modern art, Kandinsky s art and ideas impacted and inspired many generations of artists, from his students at Bauhaus, to the Abstract Expressionists post World War 2. Kandinsky contested the boundaries of conventional art making practice through his rare artistic style that departs from the strict conventions of realism and naturalism formed by the Academie, and seeks to convey inner spiritual experience by challenging intentions and emotive capacities. He sought to convey a universal, visual and spiritual language of abstract forms and colours, along with interpreting his synesthetic experience of music, to create artworks that transcended cultural and physical boundaries. The canvas seems to convey a telling of Pollock s vigorous working methods and turbulent life to the audience, as the work consists of glass shards and footprints embedded into the canvas. Pollock s boundary breaking manipulation of surface ultimately encourages artists to imitate his new and non traditional methodologies within art making. Modernist critic, Clement Greenberg coined the term of Abstract Expressionism, and was largely responsible for the growing reputation of Pollock within the art world. Greenberg assisted in determining the reaction to Blue Poles by the audience. In The Nation, 20/1/1945, Greenberg supports Pollock through advocating his artwork in a public expanse, American painting is much in need of all three qualities (that is, boldness, breadth, and the monumental ), and it is significant that Pollock, who manifests all three, has already begun to exert an influence, though he has been before the public hardly more than a year. Greenberg upholds Pollock s name with high importance, displaying his significance to the Abstract Expressionist movement. Primary treatment involves sedimentation, and is the process by which about 30 to 50 percent of the suspended solid materials in raw wastewater are removed. Sedimentation must precede all biological filtration operations. The organic matter that remains after primary treatment is extracted by biological secondary treatment process to meet effluent standards. Secondary treatment commonly is carried out using activated sludge processes, trickling filters, or rotating biological contactors. Tertiary wastewater treatment is additional treatment that follows primary and secondary treatment processes. It is employed when primary and secondary treatment cannot accomplish all that is required. For example, phosphorus removal may be needed for wastewaters that are discharged to receiving waters that are likely to become eutrophic, or enriched with nutrients. ... • 17. Will Sewage Treatment Plants Have Effect On Water Birds ... Will sewage treatment plants have effect on water birds persistence and distribution? Longji Deng, 100189430, Group 8 Introduction: Anthropogenic climate warming has elevated the global temperature, and it has risen faster during the last 40 years. There is no doubt that the temperature change has affected the biological process of birds such as wintering, migration and breeding. (K Meller 2016) Also the increasing temperature can cause a poleward geographical distribution.( Rachael H, et al, 2006) It is certain that artificial ponds have positive effect on water birds breeding and migration as ponds can provide more food and a safe space, these factors finally result in changing the distribution. (SΓ‘nchez Zapata J A, AnadΓ³n J D, Carrete M, et al. 2015) . Sewage treatment plants are really common and important infrastructures as they play a significant part in daily life. Almost every river people can find at least one plants. Due to they can be considered as special artificial ponds, they may have effects on distribution and persistence of water birds. According to some article, we find that they do have effect of shorebirds (Jose A. Alves, et al, 2012) However, there are no articles about if the sewage treatment plants have effect of water birds distribution and persistence. If they do have effect, we still try to find out it s a negative effect or a positive effect. We also try to find is there any different effects between the secondary plants and the ... • 18. Cultural Groups In The Algonquin People The Algonquin people, Jesuit missionaries, and French laborers are three separate cultural groups that are important to understand in the context of Native American and French peoples interactions. Each group plays a significant role in the history of early French exploration and colonies in North America. When focusing on each group, it is important to understand how each cultural group is portrayed, and who is portraying them. The better we can understand these interactions the more we can learn from our past. Defining each cultural group itself is complex. There were separate groups both within Native Americans and the French people. Identifying these groups, who belongs to them and who doesn t, is not always black and white and sometimes gray areas can occur. Distinguishing Algonquin people from other Native Americans is an easy task. It can be done by looking at the area in which they live, who they are allies with, and who they trade with. Typically, Algonquin people lived in the New England area, they were allies with local native tribes that were regularly fighting the Iroquois people, and they tended to trade and work with French colonists. They are usually described as savages, and portrayed as uncivilized people that are extremely strong. Father Paul Le Jeune, a Jesuit living in French North America, describes them, They are tall, erect, strong, well proportioned, agile; and there is nothing effeminate in their appearance (Paul Le Jeune, America Firsthand, p. ... • 19. Essay On Traditional Construction Of History The Issuses of Traditional Construction of History Does history over centuries truly define the past as its origin? Dr. Francis Pryor re examines the origin of Britain in one of his series about Britain AD, Britain AD The Not So Dark Age. His reinvestigation finds out a handful of evidences that disprove the written history regarding how Britain s culture was formed. Pryor effectively explores the flaw in history through the idea of invasion, cultural artifacts, and the creation of identity. In the narrative, the idea of Anglo Saxon invasion is clearly not reliable. To begin with, there are a plenty of Rome buildings that might have a different purpose than people traditionally believe in. To illustrate, Pryor has a discussion with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Beside the invasion, cultural artifacts is also an aspect that is misjudged towards people s genesis. Firstly, cultural artifacts are merely shown the adaption to what is better, rather than expression of one s origin. For example, Pryor has a conversation with Sam Lucy, an archaeologist, about the change in burial rights in Britain during the end of The Roman period; Lucy mentions how people were buried with different objects: a cross shaped branch, and this approach isn t a continental import. It s idea came ultimately from the continent, but it is a British product (Sam Lucy). This reveals that the idea of the object comes from outside of Britain, but British people are the one who modify and execute that idea. The fact that British takes the ideas from continent to differ their style proves that artifacts are found to belong to Anglo Saxon people could actually be made similarly by the British to improve their daily life. So this idea indicates that culture artifacts do not tell where people come from. Moreoever, cultural artifacts are found around the world might have been traded and transported there, and did not belong to local inhibitants. Particularly, Mark Cartwright, who has a Master of Arts in Greek philosophy, talks about trading goods in ancient times: goods were not only exchanged across the Roman world, however, as bustling ports such as Gades, Ostia, Puteoli, Alexandria, and Antioch also imported goods from such far flung places as Arabia, ... • 20. Energy, Renewable And Renewable Energy Energy Future Energy has been a major part of humanity ever since the first human learned how to harness safety, warmth, and energy from fire. Today, with seven billion humans on Earth, it is possible that our constant need for energy could destroy our beautiful and fragile planet. One way to solve this problem is to start using renewable energies such as solar and wind. There are two types of energy, renewable and nonrenewable. Fossil fuels such as coal and petroleum for example, are a non are renewable energy. They cannot be recreated once used and they take hundreds of millions of years to form, much longer than the history of humanity. The other less popular methods such as hydropower and solar power on the other hand, are renewable energy. They can produce energy at a constant rate and can be recreated by one way or another. (Micah and Warhol) To find the solution to energy problem, find the problem first, take a look at our current energy sources and find the problems. The first thing people think of when talking about fuel is gasoline or diesel, both of which come from petroleum. Petroleum is a fossil fuel that releases heat as energy when burned. The heat released from burning drive turbines, air cylinders that can power machinery. Petroleum is used mostly as fuel to engines such as cars and planes. Secondly, they wanted to explore the degree performance on these tasks and whether it is comparable to high functioning adults with ASD. Additionally, autistic children seem to have difficulty in recognising bodily gestures and context on an emotional level, yet seem to compare similarly to typically developing children on recognising simple actions (Hubert et al, 2007). ASD consists of various mental disorders such as autism, Asperger s syndrome, and childhood disintegrative disorder (DSM IV). Autism is undeniably a part of ASD, defined as a triad of impairments, it consists of specific deficits which may be more susceptible in recognising certain types of motion (Wing and Gould in 1979 as cited in Mitchell Fenja, 2013). As Parron et al hypothesised to find differences in autistic children, the findings are more generalised to ASD rather than autism thus reducing the internal validity of the findings. Gepner and Mestre in 2002 found those with autism showed less postural reactivity in comparison to those with Asperger s syndrome whom showed increased postural activity (as cited in Greffou et al, 2011). This suggests, regardless of the subcategories within ASD, there are variations amongst the specific mental disorders, which affects the internal validity of this study. The use of PLD is prominent in studies which have undeniably influenced Parron et als research, particularly when measuring recognition of biological motion (Moore, Hobson Lee, 1997 as cited in Parron et al, ... Even with the discovery of a new energy source, Monsters Inc maintained its operational structure. Facebook is just a tool and having a lot of friends or the ability to start a group doesn t necessarily mean that you will be successful in really connecting people to your company. I have many Facebook friends. Some are past and present students from high school and college, friends from camp, church, and some are coworkers past and present. I have also made many new friends and met in real life for lunch or starbucks several times. For me, Facebook works as an easy way to build new networking friendships and invest in the friendships you already have. Are all of our Facebook friends actually our friends? It s socially clumsy to think that they are. But that is okay. Networking and online friendships have their own rewards. A few of the friends I have met on Facebook have become very good friends. While I may never meet all of them in person, I am very grateful for them. With the busyness of our lives, Facebook helps me to keep up my friendships. If you re considering Facebook as part of your social media strategy, consider Hal s experience one more time. Perhaps take pause and reach out to your friends instead and ask them where they d like to connect with you. By doing so you might just save yourself that embarrassing situation of your friends not showing up to the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 37. The Deserted House Was Warm During The Summer Night The deserted house was warm during the summer night. Marco was exploring the house and was in awe of how brilliant the house looked. The house was 200 years old and has been deserted since the owners died 4 years ago, the house still had all of its decorations and furniture because the owner didn t have any kids,or a will so everything was left in the house all this time. This is so awesome, Marco said to himself, admiring the enormous dining room. He kept exploring the ginormous house. All of a sudden Marco jumped when he heard the chiming of the old grandfather clock. It was 2 in the morning now but, he didn t have to worry about school in the morning. Besides this fact, he was still pretty tired. Then, Out of nowhere, SMASH! He hears a loud noise downstairs. It startled him enough to make him aware of everything. Marco decided to investigate what made the noise, and as Marco left the room, he grabbed a rusty driver from the golf clubs in the room he was in. He slowly made his way down the stairs with the golf club held like a baseball bat, ready to swing at who or whatever made that noise. He gets downstairs and to his surprised to see a rock had been thrown through the window. the floor was covered in shards of glass and the moonlight was glimmering off of it illuminating the room Why would someone throw a rock through the window? • 38. The Importance Of Civil Liberties I believe that the abuse of power by the state is a greater threat to the American people today, than terrorist actions by a small number of people, which is why I chose a quote from Eleanor Roosevelt. All of us in this country give lip service to the ideals set forth in the Bill of Rights and emphasized by every additional amendment, and yet when war is stirring in the world, many of us are ready to curtail our civil liberties. We do not stop to think that curtailing these liberties may in the end bring us greater danger than the danger we are trying to avert. Eleanor Roosevelt I believe that by giving up our civil liberties we are allowing our government to invade our privacy, judge us for our religious beliefs and tell us what we are ... This is very fitting as Film Noir and the Maltese falcon are stories of dark deceptive people who often cannot be trusted. Film Noir is a good example of this as the story is about a detective called Sam Spade who gets dragged into the quest for the Maltese Falcon with a compulsive liar Kasper Gutman. The Maltese Falcon is a large bird made of solid gold worth millions. The main six conventions of Film Noir as I can see are The plot, lighting , dialogue, body language, stock characters and camera angles. Spade is wearing a hat, the light is projected so that the shadow covers his eyes. Eyes often show how a person is really feeling, with these hidden Spade looks as he is the bad deceptive one, this is another twist to the plot. O Shaughnessy is on the left, the light on her face is very different. Her face is lit up so her whole face is visible, her eyes are large and she looks very innocent. Light is often projected on the females faces as to make them look vulnerable and truthful, when is this instance Bridgid is the opposite. Another example is when Spade is being questioned by two investigators, in this scene Spade sits in the middle of them both so his face is visible but only the back of the other two investigators. There is only one lamp in this frame and all the rays are focused on Spade, this as with the others makes him look innocent, which in this case he is, but with the twists you are not sure. Outdoor lighting is quite similar, outside scenes are usually lit by headlights and street lamps. • 40. Table Tennis And Ping Pong Why is table table tennis so similar to ping pong? Well they are exactly the same thing! Table tennis/ ping pong began in the 1880s, and was later trademarked in the United states by Parker Brothers, the board game company. Like most other sports, table tennis had humble beginnings as a parlor game but really it was open to anyone with access to a table, paddle, and a ball. In 1922, The Ping Pong Association was formed but got renamed to The Table Tennis Association because they are the same thing. Over the years table tennis popularity grew, table tennis became so popular because In 1902 a visiting Japanese university professor took the game back to Japan, where he introduced it to university students. Shortly after, a British salesman, Edward Shires, introduced it to the people of Vienna and Budapest, [ . . . ]. Due to the popularity of table tennis and how successful it became it in 1902 the sport ended up going to Japan due to a Japanese University professor that was visiting. He liked the game so much that when he went back to Japan he introduced it to his university students. The sport also ended up going to Britain and spread pretty far to the Sunderland and Plymouth. In 1922, an All England Club was formed, which boasted such luminaries as Jack Hobbs the cricketer and other famous names of the time from the world of sport The sport was so popular it was like modern day drugs (DON T DO DRUGS! I had imagined there being few assignments with the guidelines for papers and assignments being broad. I soon came to the realization that I would have my compositional skills pushed to the limit. Although I entered the course with a adequate level of competency in writing, I significantly had my knowledge and skills in academic writing expanded as showcased in the progression of my assignments. This is something I previously didn t take into account in my earlier writing, and the most important lesson I learned from the Shitty First Drafts reading. Previously, I was more interested in sending one final draft as a work for assessment, but this course allowed me to realized that ultimately that method wasn t the most efficient. I now realize that the process of a series of draft, specifically the first one allows me to exhaust poor ideas or overall papers structure, saving the best for last. Within the Watch and Write: When to quote, paraphrase or summarize video, I gained new perspective on how to efficiently provide citations for the duration of a paper. This is summarized in the response where I explain, When sources have been identified they can be credited through three ways, quoting, paraphrasing, and summarizing. All of these functions serve different purposes. (Osom 1). This quote brings home the message of my response, and provided new information to me that I previously wasn t aware regarding these means of citations. While I was clear on quotations and when to use them, I would previously often fluctuate on paraphrasing and summarizing. This clarification, allowed me to progress as a writer and make my works more coherent and precise. • 43. Personal Attirity In Boys And Girls By Alice Munro In finding personal integrity, courage is a double edged blade as it can sustain integrity in certain circumstances and drive an individual further away in others. In Alice Munro s short story Boys and Girls the main character begins by developing a sense of personal integrity without external influence, but soon loses sight of herself as pressure from both herself and her society outpace her aspirations. As she grows older the values she placed in feats of daring is interchanged with misplaced rebellion as she attempts to fight her expectations and role in her family. Though she has courage in abundance for an untested child, the constant reproach and patronizing attitude of the people around her restricts her ability to flourish. In this text Munro suggests that well employed courage is needed to sustain an already developed integrity, though it must act with some source of external support to succeed. In the beginning the girl finds integrity without the need of courage, since she is free from external pressures to be anything but herself. During the day she directs her focus to her father s foxes, finding herself enjoying these tasks without the pressure to do so from others. When assisting her father when tending to the foxes she finds pride in her work, turning red in the face with pleasure when praised as her father s hired hand. In the absence of anyone telling her to work towards being something, she naturally finds herself fufilling her integrity by simply doing what she enjoys and takes pride in. As a child accustomed to the arduous farmwork and unchallenged by societal standards, pursuing what she finds integrity does not require her to display any bravery. Without conflicting demands, the girl finds herself lacking in anything to be courageous against. Although she believes that she is going above and beyond to help her father, characterized by her smugness at carrying the real watering can , her integrity does not require her to be actively courageous. The pride she finds in her tasks and her love for helping her father is real, but her interests are untested, unquestioned and involve little effort on her behalf to uphold. Since she finds fox farming as familiar as the smell of pine ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 47. Toyota s Recommendation Response At The World s Largest... Q3: Toyota s recommended response to Volkswagen s ambition of becoming the world s largest automobile manufacturer, based on the analysis of current market trends, would be to somewhat disregard them, rather they should focus on developing their own competitive advantages that allowed them to achieve the title of market leader. Volkswagen plans to grow in Chinese and Indian markets (De Moraes, 2016). They also aim to double sales in America by 2018 (Kresge and Weiss, 2015), by following their clean diesel strategy (The Economist, 2015a: 15). Nevertheless, the 2015 emissions scandal destroyed this ambition (Farrell, 2015). Widespread recalls and suspended sales led to a loss of market share (Kresge and Weiss, 2015) and fostered a bad reputation within America (The Economist, 2015b). In 2015, Toyota defended their lead in sales ahead of Volkswagen (The Telegraph, 2015). Toyota developed cost advantages with their production system , Volkswagen found it difficult to replicate such optimisation due to union pressure rife in Germany (De Moraes, 2016: 465). Furthermore, to defend their title, Toyota adopted strategies of lean manufacturing, strict supplier control and highly efficient distribution (Schonberger, 1994). Toyota can strengthen their leadership by developing more environmentally friendly technologies.
