Review on the Novel Atonement
Review on Atonement
It is not often that the protagonist of a story be the anathema of the story as well and it is even more of
a rarity that the particular character be a young child. Yet, this is exactly what Ian McEwan has done
with his Crime Novel, Atonement. McEwan intentionally turns his readers against Briony Tallis, a
young girl transitioning from the naivete of childhood into the new and confusing years of
adolescence; a point in one s life when mistakes are dubbed as necessary stepping stones to further
understand one s self rather than life long regrets and unsubduable self loathing. McEwan takes the
innocence of childhood and juxtaposes it with despicable crimes and unchangeable mistakes, thus
creating a protagonist the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Robbie Turner is trying to survive each turbulent day in war with thoughts of Cecilia as motivation.
McEwan describes World War Two brilliantly by creating scenes of unthinkable death and suffering
whilst threading hope and love to convey the complexities of war. It s during these pages that the
reader realizes the full consequence of Briony s actions. Briony herself, witnessing the horror and
carnage of war in the hospital, is distraught as ever about the incident. She has stopped writing thus
imprisoning the same imagination that destroyed so many relationships. Cecilia defended Robbie
against her family, and in doing so cut them off entirely, the foremost being Briony. This only
intensifies the readers distaste for Briony and the effect she let herself make. Her internal conflict
evolves for the worse with time, and even with the sacrifices she makes, it is clear atonement is far off
in the distance from herself, her family, Robbie, or the reader.McEwan takes what is ethical and
distorts it using the relationships between the characters. He uses some of the most sensitive
relationships, such as sisters and lovers, to evoke questions in the reader: what mistake could lead to a
loss of family? Of love? Family is often a symbol of eternal love, but in Atonement, that symbol is
shattered. The bonds of family love cannot always be healed with apologies. McEwan integrates the
unchangeable law that an action must have a reaction, some of which, can never be

Hedonistic Treadmill Research
Thousands of kilograms of plastic enter the oceans every minute. However, consumers do not see the
severity of their consumptive lifestyles. Instead, they go to their favorite coffee shop, order a drink and
then throw away the cup once they are done. Many do not look for recycling bins, and almost all
consumers do not think about where their garbage goes after they throw it away. A majority of
consumers simply think their old coffee cups fill in a landfill, but what many do not know is that some
people consume up to 11,000 pieces of plastic a year along with their seafood (Walsh, Formanek, Loo
and Phillips). But, if this consumption has such a large impact on lives and the environment, why are
consumer not more aware? The Hedonistic Treadmill, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

incredible change in the daily behavior of 7 billion people (Walsh et al.). The need for this extreme

continues to worsen as the Hedonistic Treadmill speeds up. This problem is so large, that it constitutes
as a market failure. Due to the impact of excessive plastic in the oceans, animals are dying, and
individuals are consuming large amounts of plastic each year. Thus, the speed of the Hedonistic
Treadmill is causing the market to fail due to its negative externalities on wildlife, the environment

Tocqueville thought that individualism could be associated with individual value, dignity, happiness,
interests and freedom. At the same time, he endowed it into relatively complete theoretical
connotations (Alexis de Tocqueville, 1988). Firstly, it emphasizes the ultimate purpose is for
individual interests. Society is just a tool that serves people. Secondly, it stresses on individual
freedom and democracy. Thirdly, it points out from personal view the rightness of privatization of
property. American historian Commager thought that individualism eventually became the synonym
of Americanism (1988). In the Longman Dictionary of Contemporary English of the 1997 edition,
individualism is defined as two concepts. One is the belief that the rights and freedom of individual
people are the most important rights in a society. The other is the behavior or attitude of someone who
does things in their own way without being influenced by other people. On the contrary, individualism
is defined as pejorative connotation in The Contemporary Chinese Dictionary (2005). It points out that
individualism means some people who just care about their own interests instead of collective
interests, which is not a right idea. By the analysis of the definition of individualism it s clear that the
pattern of Chinese culture stresses people s inner world and embodies in

Staff College report.
1. Purpose, Goal, or End in View.
The purpose or goal described in the Penn Mart memo is a program engineered to lower employee
benefit costs paid by the company. The method of attaining this outcome would be to implement a
mandatory Get Well employee health screening and monitoring program. The author s conclusion to
the problem of a costly employee health benefit program is to institute a multi prong monitoring

Edwin Arlington Robinson’s The Mill Essay
Edwin Arlington Robinson s The Mill
Lucius Beebe critically analyzes Edwin Arlington Robinson s, The Mill best. Beebe s analysis is from
an objective point of view. He points out to the reader that what seems so obvious may not be. She
notes The Mill is just a sad little tale of double suicide brought on by the encroachment of the modern
world and by personal loss. Thus meaning The Mill carries a deeper underlying theme. Lucius Beebe
expresses that a minor overflow of significant details has been exposed over Edwin Arlington
Robinson s The Mill, much of it concerned with whether the miller s wife did indeed drown herself
after the miller had hanged himself. Another, even more provocative question has never been asked:
did the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The colon after said implies an appositive clause equal in value to what went before, here the thoughts
of the miller s wife as she waited by the dead fire. There are no millers anymore, / Was all that she had
heard him say closes the parenthesis of past perfect tense that the first line opens, containing within it
the miller s actual words, which Beebe and the reader can take to be the objective fulcrum upon which
the rest of this intensely subjective poem balances.
It is even clearer that the past perfect is this stanza s essential condition of being when we come to the
second past perfect verb, had lingered, found in a clause subordinate to the one before. Thus, Lucius
Beebe points out that Robinson sets up the stanza as a sort of verbal chandelier, with one clause
hanging upon the meaning and mode of that before, and with the framework of past perfect verbs
giving definition and tone to the whole. Robinson achieves much the same effect in the second stanza,
which opens with the miller s wife sick with a fear that had no form, which implies that the fear has a
continuation in the past. Beebe implies that a certain poetic inertia militates against supposing change,
and much more is needed to indicate or certify such change than exists. This hypothesis is reinforced
by the rest of the stanza, a single sentence formed by a pair of past conditional clauses. What he had
meant, as direct object, parallels What else

How The Lowenstein Family Affected The Nazi Regime
The Lowenstein family is only one example of the thousands of Jewish family s affected during the
Nazi Regime. But through their family s story one is able to understand some of the conditions people
were under during that time period. However, the family was no fully Jewish. Max Lowenstein was
Jewish but Marie Steinberg was from Estonia, as a result their son Henry was half Jewish but their
daughter who was from not born from Marie s marriage with Max was not Jewish. Nevertheless, the
family still received tremendous persecution. His father was a doctor and his mother an artist. But
both were very artistic, as Henry Lowenstein mentions in the video. He remembers growing up in an
apartment where there were always performers in their home; the place was decorated with art, his
parents always went to the theater, and his mother would take him to different museums in Berlin.
They were also a family who practiced both Christian and Jewish traditions. His sister, who wasn t
even Jewish knew more Hebrew than him and could recite the bible. They were a very happy and

This provided an alternative to emigration, which had proven to be very expensive. They would be
eliminated by natural causes, death by a combination of hard labor and starvation (The History Place).
This was the intended misfortune for the Lowenstein family. The Notice of Eviction discussed earlier
demonstrates this. The notice was an intended cover in order to gather up all Jews and take them to the
concentration camps where they would be exterminated. Luckily, the Lowenstein family was relieved
from this notice through the efforts of Marie and out of pure luck in their

E Voting And Its Effect On Voting
Introduction
E voting is an e government concept that uses the Internet to allow people to vote. The use of e voting
is usually applied by countries and companies. In companies, this use of e voting can be used in
shareholder meetings or other instances where it is not physically possible for all individuals with a
vote to be present.
E voting is a new concept that has recently been used by countries that are not willing to dedicate the
necessary funds to provide paper votes. The use of e voting eliminates the use of paper and ensures
that voter turnout will be higher as it will eliminate issues with travelling to the voting venue and
waiting in any lines that may occur. In addition, the process of tallying votes will be far faster since e
voting will eliminate the manual counting of votes as well as issues such as the vote counting machine
malfunctioning. E votes will be counted using software designed to tally votes.
The concept of e voting has been analyzed to ensure that it is a fair process. The fairness of this new
type of voting will be critical to its acceptance. However, there is a portion of the population which
feels that the system can be easily manipulated and argue that the Internet is vulnerable to hacker
attacks, something that can lead to an invalid and unfair result. With advanced technology, it should be
relatively easy for IT experts to devise ways that will ensure that the system will not be hacked.

Themes of Unity in the Grapes
John Steinbeck #8217;s novel, The Grapes of Wrath, is a moving account of the social plight of
Dustbowl farmers and is widely considered an American classic. The novel takes place during the
depression of the 1930s in Oklahoma and all points west to California. Steinbeck uses the Joad family
as a specific example of the general plight of the poor farmers. The Joads are forced off of their farm
in Oklahoma by the banks and drought, and they, like many other families of the time, head out for the
promised land of California. They endure much hardship along the way, and they finally make it to
California only to find that work is scarce and human labor and life are cheap. Tom Joad, the eldest
son in the family, starts the book freshly ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

is emphasized through the main events of the novel when the Joads leave the government camp and in
the strike at the peach fields. The best part of their arduous and depressing stay in California, is when
the Joads get a space in the government camp at Weedpatch. The government camp governs and
polices itself, has clean camp spaces and large bathrooms with modern conveniences. Here the
migrants are free from the malicious deputies, who continually beat up the migrants and burn down
their paper shacks at the edges of different towns. #8220;When the migrants band together to run the
camp at Weedpatch, a camp that is clean, decent, orderly and without deputy sheriffs from outside, the
people are beginning to move toward a social ideal #8221; (Bowden 199). When the Joads are forced
to leave the camp for lack of work and food, they realize the power of the camp as a group of people

The Deregulation Of The Electricity Market
What deregulation means
The term liberalization or deregulation generally refers to the abolition of rights of monopolies,
creating a competitive market that guarantees fair prices for the consumers and efficient economic cost
of supplying electricity. Three economic conditions are a prerequisite to a competitive market in order
to achieve a successful transformation from a highly regulated monopolistic to a transparent and
deregulated market:
Free consumer choice: consumers must be able to freely choose their electric energy supplier after
having compared prices and services of competing electricity supply companies),
Third party access (TPA): free and competitive market has to guarantee unimpeded access to
transmission and distribution networks for companies which do not own them. Otherwise, competition
in the electricity market would not be possible due to the physical characteristics and the natural
monopolistic market design within the sector
Unbundling: transmission and distribution networks have to be separated from the generation and
retail business of vertically integrated utilities
Description of the electricity market
First of all, it is to mention that the electricity sector is a comparatively complex one. This complexity
and singularity can be explained on the basis of three categories: constituent parts of the sector,
physical characteristics and the specific market design.
1) Constituent parts of the electricity sector

Expression Dance
The Expression of Dance
Cultures use a variety non verbal communication, some put more emphasis on specific channels,
including facial expressions, body language, vocal tone, and eye contact. However, there is one
medium that is repeatedly shown high significance, dance. Although they way people move their
bodies to rhythm vary, the feelings that seem to be communicated are similar if not the same. Some
popular messages include love, intimacy, sexual attraction, companionship, and even sympathy. Some
of the simplest ways to observe subliminal messages is by identifying interactions between dancing
partners, clothing choices, and dancing style. Dance is the hidden language of the soul. Martha
Graham
What is the significance of the interaction between dance partners? In it s most simplest form, dance is
purely an announcement that meet other people. Described in Interplay, this is called initiating the
opening stage of all relations, not just romantic ones. Friendships start here, and so do business
partnerships. (Adler, Ronald B) In other words, when you ask someone to dance, it opens the
possibility of a new friendship and possibly a connection to other people and more relationships. A
study of adolescents in schools put it another way. Shared social or physical activities can
systematically affect the emergence of ties between individuals in a social network. (Zander, Lysann)
It also suggests that meeting people through dance reaches on a deeper level.

Inside Out By Pete Docter
INSIDE OUT DIRECTED BY PETE DOCTER Inside out is a disney cartoon film directed by Pete
Docter. It follows the story of a preteen girl named Riley and her emotions that are represented as
characters in the film, with an angle of meeting the little voices inside your head . Representing the
five major emotions are the characters Joy, Sadness, Anger, Disgust and Fear, who take us on a
journey through the brightly coloured, amazing, exhilarating wonderland of Riley s mind, conquering
many troubles along the way. I thoroughly enjoyed this film and found that although aimed at a
younger audience I think it touches on very relevant topics that are essential for life, such as
individuality and acceptance of others, that are both resourceful and important for everyone of all ages
to know and learn about making it an appealing and enjoyable film for all. The concept of acceptance
of others was definitely present throughout the entire film, however the full effect and realisation of
this concept didn t come into play till towards the end of movie when I felt personally, a realisation
sensation stuck. In the beginning of the film we are introduced to the characters who represent Riley s
emotions. Although each are responsible for certain areas of Riley in particular, it is strongly apparent
that the emotion Joy is the ringleader within the group, and takes pride in being so. Joy however is a
character that contradicts another one of the emotions Sadness, as you would expect.

The And Structure Of Family
The definition and structure of family has significantly developed throughout the years, with liberal
perspectives suggesting alternative family arrangements. In 1973, Michael Young and Peter Willmott
conducted studies of family life within the London area and concluded that the development and
changes within the structure of family life can be sorted into three categories of time. (Van Krieken et
al. 2017, p. 107). The pre industrial family (up until the early 19th century), the early industrial family
(Industrial Revolution early 20th century) and the symmetrical family (20th century onwards).
Sociological perspectives such as Marxism, functionalism and feminism all adhere to the structure

The Industrial Revolution completely transformed family life. In the 1970s, female social scientists,
such as Meg Luxton, began to explore different concepts of family life. (Fox 2015, p. 205). Luton s
1980 book More Than a Labour of Love examines the gender inequalities women faced where men
earned wages and women were expected to act as full time unpaid domestic workers within the home.
Therefore, as a byproduct of this Revolution, women became increasingly independent and career
motivated. (Volarevic 2012, p. 223). Consequently, women were becoming less domestically oriented,
and as a result, were disrupting the family structure. However, this caused major controversy, as many
functionalists were dissatisfied with this change. When exploring the functionalist perspective, many
analysts view the work of Talcott Parsons. Parsons argues that society establishes several institutions
in which reflect a shared valued system. (Grimes 1988, p. 183). He claims that each institution
conduct functional tasks in order to sustain social order. Therefore, when change was brought about,
many perceived moral chaos. Feminist sociologists combatted this argument by declaring that the
ideology of the traditional family structure was of disadvantage to women. (Hare Mustin 1978, p. 1).
They argued that functionalists overlook the inequalities women face in

My Views On My Land Ethic
When I think about what my land ethic a few different things come to mind. First I think about how I
love technology and how much my life benefits from having it. Second I think about my love for
nature, specifically hiking and camping. I try to image what my life would be like without the
Vermont mountains and everything else wonderful about nature. My ideal land ethic would be similar
to that of the time period when the US was first being settled. A time before the industrial revolution
hit the US, before all the devastation to the environment for the betterment of the human race. My
land ethic is a give and take with nature in order to sustain human life and the life of other flora and
fauna. Humans have a built in need to survive and a desire to thrive. This trait is ultimately what has
leas us to where we are today, destroying the environment for the betterment of people now, rather
than the betterment for the people in the future. My land ethic is too only take as much from nature as
needed without exhausting the resources in one single area. It consists of three main ideas, take only
what is needed from nature, if you take somethings life, then use all of it, and lastly keep the
waterways clean and pollution free. I imagine it from around the time of the colonization of the United
States or when people migrated west. People had what they needed for the most part and they did not
have all the technology we have today which allows us to destroy the environment. In my

Race, Ethnicity in Films, and the Criminal Justice System
Young black and Hispanic men, who are considered members of a lower socio economic status are
most of the time portrayed as delinquents in popular culture, especially in crime films. Films such as

Training Day, which portrays both black and Hispanic men as gang members and drug dealers. These
two films are great examples to illustrate how the environment, poverty, social class, gender, race, and
ethnicity can be part of many of other factors that creates this idea of social structure. The negative
stereotypes that are reflected in these type of crime films influence how these two minority groups are
perceived in the criminal justice system. Social institutions such as courts and the prison system
reflects the racial disparities that exist among these two groups compared to the dominant group. It is
well known that blacks and Hispanics under the jurisdiction of state and federal correctional facilities
make a higher percentage than whites. Besides the two crime films, the criminal case of Brock Turner

The World Anti Doping Agency
With the 2016 Summer Olympics just around the corner our media is capturing both positive
accomplishments and negative behavior about the potential Olympic athletes and telling us everything
we didn t want to know. Doping is always a highlighted issue and we in America are familiar with it in
our high profile sports culture such as NFL, NBA, and MLB but it is not just in our homeland culture.
It has been internationally affecting the Olympics since its inception in 776 393BC and modern day
resurrection in Athens, Greece in 1896. The Olympic Committee established a doping committee for
regulation, the WADA, the world anti doping agency, with the increase of enhancement drug use by
the athletes. The World Anti Doping Agency s (WADA) mission is to lead a collaborative worldwide
campaign for a doping free sport.(list) Is the answer for athletes to just say no or should we really be
looking beyond the drug. The Olympic motto of Faster, Higher, Stronger may have added new
meaning to it with at all costs, just do it . If we look at our own American culture, War on Drugs ,
starting under Richard Nixon in 1971, we have not seen great strides in this being the cure. I believe
this issue is rooted not just in testing but in the basic human value of individuals from any country,
culture, or gender. To have a governing board to seek out and banish the drug using athletes is not
going to decrease numbers in hopes of upholding the foundation of this Olympic Athletic culture that

Bravery is when you can stand up to things without a drop of fear in your heart and on the night of
March 17th 2015 that s exactly what I did. It was a calm night the sky was cloudless and the only

I looked over my room balcony and saw a group of kids my age in a circle picking teams for another
round of the game they were playing. As I was about to turn and go back inside one of the many
voices yelled up to me and said Hey, wanna join? . My first thought was to say no because I didn t
know any of them but then I remembered how boring my day went and decided to go down. I shouted
back Sure, why not . I quickly went back in my room changed my clothes and went straight to join the
game. When I got to the group I asked who all playing and what are we playing ? One of the girls that
was in the group said we all are just have to pick teams and Man Hunt, you heard of it? . I replied
Okay and Yea I played it before . She then started a game of Rock Paper Scissors to give us the two

As noted in a previous journal entry, I had made a trip to Cöthen where the great composer, Johann
Sebastian Bach, is under the service of Prince Leopold. There I heard a recent keyboard transcription
of Bach s. The transcription was of a piece called Concerto in D minor for Oboe, Strings and Basso

listened to the piece, I was captured by the simple yet eloquent melodies that were presented but I also
was curious as I had not known of Benedetto to write for oboe. I also know that Marcello stated,

academic pursuits of the Marcellos, that it was possible that they were members of the Arcadian

Now that I learned who the true author was, I went to seek out Alessandro. It is typical of nobles such
as the Marcello to conduct concerts in their home. I went to the Palazzo Marcello and discovered a
concert was being performed that had the concerto on its program. The oboist was unknown to me.
The audience contained mostly nobles and government

Examples Of Dynamic Equivalency
For over 400 years now, the Authorized Version of the Bible or as commonly known as the King
James Version has been used by the church of Jesus Christ. Christianity, along with other religions has
a governing document or book in which it governs their walk of faith. For Christians, this book is the
Bible or also known as the Word of God. Throughout the scriptures, it is clear that God promises to
preserve His words (Psalms 12:6 7). In addition, He commands to not add or take away from his
words (Deuteronomy 4:1 2), that God cares about every one of His words (Proverbs 30:5 6), in which
the words will never pass away (Mark 13:31), and finally that God will curse those who change His
Word (Revelation 22:18 19).

Formal equivalency is a word for word translation where it is conservative which translates words as
accurate as possible from the first language. Dynamic equivalency is meaning for meaning or phrase
to phrase . This means that the translator is writing down the best paraphrase he could make based on
his own judgment. This is dangerous because you have to trust his understanding of what the text is
saying rather then you making the interpretation. This is beneficial because it is easy to read and
follow but has many doors open to skewed meanings. Jennifer Beatson, in the journal titled, Christian
Scholar s Review Issue 34.1 of fall 2004, She reviews The Word of God in English: Criteria for
Excellence in Bible Translation by Leland Ryken. Ryken cites the trends leading to a large growing of
English Bible translations, and the need to evaluate their merits. One of his main criticisms is the
dynamic equivalence used in practically all modern translations. He claims that these works, (1) they
lack literary excellence, and (2) they do not faithfully translate the original biblical texts (Beatson
134). He holds that only formal or word for word translations should be used because they hold true to
the original text and author. Beatson states that Ryken goes back into the history of the English Bible
and demonstrates how the KJV upholds the essentially literal translations of the Old and New
Testaments. The translators of the KJV gave Christians the literal Word of

The Intelligence and National Security Architecture of the...
This essay will detail the intelligence and national security architecture of the Republic of Korea
(ROK South Korea). It will discuss how the current structures were developed and the effectiveness
the ROK services and agencies, and thirdly it will look at key events that have led to reforms and
restructuring of the system, and if those changes have produced better outcomes.
In 1905 Korea became a protectorate of Imperial Japan following the Russo Japanese war and in 1910
Japan annexed Korea as a colony. After the Japanese surrender to United States and allied forces in
1945 following the atomic bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, Korea regained its independence

Security and intelligence capabilities of the ROK consist of both civilian and military services.
Agencies that come under the military command structure of the over arching Ministry of National
Security include the Coast Guard (including the former Civilian Marine Police Force), Defense
Security Command (DSC) with its several subsidiary agencies, and the Homeland Defence Forces
(Regional Combat Forces).
Civilian services include the Korean National Police agency (KNP), the ministry of Foreign Affairs
and Trade (formerly known as the Ministry of the Interior) and the National Intelligence Service
(NIS), (formerly the National Information Agency (NIA), formerly the Agency for National Security
Planning (ANSP), formerly the Korean Central Intelligence Agency (KCIA). Also included in the
civilian services is the Presidential Security Service.
The primary intelligence and security agency of the ROK is the NIS which is a cabinet level agency
that is directly accountable to the president. The NIS is the lead agency on intelligence gathering,
analysis and dissemination of intelligence product and works with the support of other civilian and

Hinduism Impact On Indian Society
In Indian society Hinduism plays a vital role in shaping Indian society. Hinduism plays a vital role in
Indian society whether it be through Dharma, the caste system or Hindu rituals. To further explain
how Hinduism plays a role in Indian society we need to explain what is Hinduism.
One could not give a definite definition to Hinduism. Hinduism is not an organized religion but a set
of belief systems and traditions that is in turn a way of life in Indian Society. Hinduism contains
several sects, subsects, sub subsects, various traditions and ascetic movements. I think this is
important for defining Hinduism, but it also proves difficult to place an accurate pinpoint definition of
Hinduism. Hinduism is different for each person and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Yet Dharma has different implications depending on the person and their social position. Men,
women, elders and children have different dharma which also depends on their place in the caste
system. The Dharma of a Brahmin is different from the dharma of a king and so forth. Dharma assists
with the social order in Indian society, as it varies person to person but also on the position one holds
in the caste system, but it help maintains that order. Whether that be a positive or negative impact on
Indian Society. Which brings up the point of the caste system.
Vedic society was divided into four different classes, Brahmans, nobles, commoners and the serfs.
These classes are part of the cosmic hierarchy and were based on purity. This gave way to the caste
systems. Castes are arranged in the following order of the polarity of purity; Brahmins, Kshatriyas,
Vaisyas and the shudras. With a fifth group called the untouchables at the very bottom. They are the
untouchables because they are the most impure. The caste of an individual cannot be removed. Each
caste has strict rules on caste endogamy.
The caste system also plays a critical role on Indian society as it dictates a person s social position. I
believe this to be true in more rural areas and smaller communities of Indian society. The dharma in
each caste system is not always the same and the caste systems dharma can vary. This is to say that
dharma is not necessarily universal

Blade Runner Themes In Frankenstein
In Frankenstein, Mary Shelley shows a variety of themes that concern creation of humanity, family,
the sublime. Shelley presents these themes through characters, and the actions and emotions
experienced in particular situations. With these themes in Frankenstein, there are similar relationships
that are in Scott Ridley s Blade Runner. The theme of creation that is used in Frankenstein, comes
from the main character of Victor Frankenstein, who wants to successfully create a human life form.
Shelley criticizes Victor that not only creating a new being, but for abandoning the creature when it
came to life. The theme of creation is also referenced in Blade Runner when it comes to the creation of
the Replicants because they were supposed to be better humans than humans. Dr. Tyrell, Blade
Runner. The Replicants were created with a fix life span of only four years, which was to prevent them
from getting out of control. Similar to the Victor Frankenstein, Dr. Tyrell has complications when
creating his lifeforms for which he doesn t want their responsibility Family is an important theme in
Frankenstein because the creature wants to desperately have a companion so that he can no longer be
lonely in the world. This was also due to the rejection of appearance and overall disgust society had
for the creature, and his own creator is disgusted by him. This causes the creature to go into denial and
draws him to evil causing him to kill people that are close or even related to his

Skirmish Board Game Analysis
Recently in class, we paired into groups of two to face off in an ultra realistic simulation as
commanders of either the Americans or British during the American Revolution. By ultra realistic
simulation, I mean board game. Nonetheless, Skirmish the board game, is a representation of what it
was like to command the American troops or British troops. Through this experience, we learned how
realistic it is, several factors that determine the outcome of the game, and about how best to command
your troops. The Skirmish board game is a very realistic depiction of the Revolution in several ways.
During the American Revolution, one of the characteristics of Washington s Army was its ability to
move troops much faster than the British. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Skirmish board game also reflects the advantage George Washington had over the British thanks
to the intelligence gained by American spies. This comes when the British player must declare which
unit they are moving before they move it. This is like how the Americans almost always knew what
the British were planning to do, before they did it. At the same time, the board game also incorporated
the vulnerability of American leaders by using special American unit pieces with black dots. These
pieces, representing the different heads of Washington s Army were to be protected at all costs, since
they would be the determining factor between a win or a loss. Another example of the realism of the
Skirmish board game was the fact that the British army was made up of five large blocks with the
number five (to indicate the number of troops in that block) on them as opposed to the American units
which were sixteen one piece units. This represents how tight knit the British army was during the
American Revolution, as opposed to how split up the American army was. The Americans were, in an
essence, one large army made up of small town militias. One of the smaller American militias was
Daniel Morgan and his mountain men. They are credited for being some of the best sharpshooters of

Fairy Tales, Like Any Other Medium, Must Be Updated And
Fairy tales, like any other medium, must be updated and revised in order to remain appealing to its
audience as time goes on. Some fairy tale revisions are heavily criticized for deviating from the
original text so much that they no longer feel the same or offer the same messages. Whether or not a
revision is successful is entirely a matter of personal opinion. In my opinion, a revision does not have
to follow the same plot as the original text as long as it is able to keep the moral intact. For me, a
revision is successful when it modernizes the tale to be more relatable to people in modern day
society, and/or sheds new light back on the original text. It is unsuccessful when the overall message is

He does not state whether the step sisters are attractive or ugly, only that Cinderella is prettier than
them. This is important because it offers the message that appearances do not matter, but how
someone treats others does matter. This is a message that parents often try to instill in their children
nowadays, so it is nice to have a story that offers the same message. The second reason why I consider
this version to be successful is because it offers a positive message to the audience. This version of the
tale contains a message of forgiveness. This message is evident in the text at the end of the story
where it says Cinderella raised them up, and kissed them, and forgave them with all her heart, and
asked them to love her always. (Perrault 15) This element is important because it proves that
Cinderella is truly genuine. Cinderella demonstrates her genuine kindness by choosing to forgive her
step sisters even when she comes to be in a position of power where she could get revenge. I find this
to be an important part to the story because there is no better lesson to teach to children and young
adults than the lesson of being genuine and forgiving. Finally, the last reason why I consider this
version to be a phenomenal example of a successful Cinderella story is because the author made sure
to include that Cinderella thanked

Endothelial Inos Research Paper
Nitric oxide (NO) is an important cellular signaling molecule that participates in diverse physiological
functions in mammals, including vasodilation, smooth muscle relaxation, neurotransmission, and the
immune response. NO, a free radical, is produced by a family of enzymes called nitric oxide synthases
(NOS) by the oxidation of L arginine to L citrulline. There are three isoforms of NOS. Two of them,
neuronal NOS (nNOS) and endothelial NOS (eNOS), are constitutively expressed, while the third one
is inducible and is thus termed iNOS. nNOS is primarily found in the nervous system and is necessary
for neuronal signaling, while eNOS is localized to the endothelium and is essential for vasodilation
and control of blood pressure (5). These two isoforms produce nanomolar amounts of NO for short
periods of time (seconds to minutes) in a calcium/calmodulin (CaM) dependent manner (1, 91, 189).

Upon induction, iNOS generates significant amounts of NO (micromolar range) and lasting until the
enzyme is degraded, sometimes for hours (80). The considerable amount of NO produced helps to
defend against invading pathogens and is thus critical for the inflammatory response and the innate
immune system. Inappropriately high NO concentrations from overexpression or dysregulation of
iNOS, on the other hand, can result in toxic effects and is associated with a variety of human diseases,
including septic shock, cardiac dysfunction, pain, diabetes, and cancers (161). The dual activity of
iNOS related NO (helpful vs. harmful) is highly concentration dependent. Therefore, regulation of its
production is important for both maintaining its proper physiological functions and controlling its
deleterious

Battle Tactics During World War I
World War 1 was a time of great bloodshed, and no battle demonstrated this fact more than the battle
of Verdun (Feb 21, 1916 Dec 18, 1916). The near half a million casualties suffered during the battle of
Verdun displayed the futility and uselessness of past battle tactics. France for the most part did not
change its tactic, but along with the British began development of the tank. The tank was a terrifying
tool for warfare, but Germany had a different solution to the problem. Through study of battle tactics
used during the Russian Brusilov offensive (Jun 4, 1916 Sep 20, 1916) and the Italian Arditi (The

The Italian Arditi would advance very closely behind an artillery bombardment on the enemy line and
as soon as the bombardment stopped they would start throwing grenades. This was done to trick the
enemy into thinking the bombardment was still going on. Then they would jump into the trenches and
start killing the enemy with knives as grenades were still being thrown. O la vittoria, o tutti accopiati
(Either we win or we all die) was the motto of the Arditi, and this phrase rang true for the Arditi. The
strategy was effective until the enemy realized what was going on, at that moment the Arditi lost their
advantage, and on many occasions most if not all troops were killed. This is were the Sturmtruppen
stepped in and refined the tactic. With German Stormtroops the beginning would be similar to the
Arditi, moving up under artillery cover. Though with the Germans their objective was not to hold the
trench, but instead to push behind and take the flank allowing an easy victory. Unlike the Arditi, the
Sturmtruppen had support. Most troops were still rifle men, but with support from heavy gunners with

However, there are also many challenges and bumps in the road along the way. Napolean A. Chagnon

Chagnon faced many challenges interacting with the natives. Chagnon could not practically

Frankenstein as a Non-Epistolary Film Essay
Frankenstein as a Non Epistolary Film
A novel written in the epistolary style is by nature difficult to adapt to film. The director, perhaps
already adept at navigating the ragged breakers of length contraction and visual style, is forced to deal
with the additional sandbar presented by a plot format in which no visual action occurs and, more
often than not, this difficulty consequently runs the film aground. Kenneth Branagh, in bringing Mary
Shelley s Frankenstein to the screen as Mary Shelley s Frankenstein, succinctly sidesteps this potential
pitfall by completely discarding the epistolary format; rather than existing as a lengthy letter penned to

Continuing, Mrs. Saville is presented as incapable of understanding Walton s frigid trip: he supposes
she shall not understand this feeling (Shelley 15), and that her surprise at discovering Victor would
have been boundless (Shelley 22). Margaret is therefore illustrated as a woman unqualified to truly
comprehend the extraordinary; although the text is primarily addressed to her, its subject matter,
consisting of astonishing expeditions, fantastical scientific discoveries, and blood congealed with
horror (Shelley 156), would be quite outside her domestic sphere of a husband, and lovely children
(Shelley 157). As the novel is represented as the non fictional writings of an arctic explorer, in order to
find its way into print Mrs. Saville must edit and publish Walton s account; logically, Walton s framing
letters to his sister are superfluous if he himself edited the story, as he more likely would have written
his own travelogue detailing his expedition upon his return rather then printing personal letters. Given
Mrs. Saville s inability to appreciate the fantastic elements within Walton s story, it is entirely possible
that she, in editing the tale for print, altered any or all of Walton s, Victor s, and the Creature s
accounts in some unknowable fashion before publishing them. The reader, realizing that a second

The Gambino Crime Family
Paul Castellano, or Big Paul was an eight grade dropout and boss of the richest, most dangerous, and
most powerful crime syndicate in the United States. Born June 26, 1915 in Brooklyn, Big Paul began
his life in the mob by running numbers. When he was named successor to the great Carlo Gambino,
trouble arose. Many members felt that Aniello Dellacroce, although in prison, deserved the role but
instead Gambino had promoted Paul. Some saw this as nepotism which was generally frowned upon

The Village, by M. Night Shyamalen Essay
Matthew Lesko once said, A degree of lying seems to be inherent in all languages and all forms of

ritual communication. First off to fully grasp the significance of ritual communication behind the

Applying Medical Procedures For Breast Cancer
ABSTRACT
Medical diagnostic system is a branch in bioinformatics that is concerned with classifying medical
records. Breast cancer is the most common deployed cancer in females worldwide. The main obstacle
is the vagueness and ambiguity involving the breast cancer data. Human nature handles the vagueness
and ambiguity easily. Therefore, doctors diagnose the patient condition using their expertise.
Fuzziness and rough boundary theories simulate the human thinking. The fuzzy rough hybrids address
the uncertainty in terms of membership degree of truth and lower and upper boundaries of fuzzy rough
set theory. This research solves the diagnostic breast cancer problems via a proposed hybrid model of
fuzzy rough feature selection and rough neural networks. The medical data is preprocessed by the
fuzzy rough feature selection algorithm to remove unnecessary attributes. The reduced data set is
applied to the rough neural network to learn the connection weights iteratively. The test data set are
used to measure the proposed model accuracy and time complexities. Lower and upper
approximations of the input features are weighted by input synapses learnt through training phase. The
fuzzy rough proposed model design and implementation are declared. The experiments used WDBC
and WPBC data sets from the UCI machine learning repository. The experimental results proved the
fuzzy rough model ability to classify new instances compared with the conventional neural network.

Slavery Abolished
In 1833, slavery was abolished in the British Empire after years of conflict and the hard work of
abolitionists in London. Around the era of slavery more people were for it than against it. Even though
there were too less people against it, they were still stronger believers. In this essay I will be
discussing the persuasive arguments and events that took place to cause the abolition of slavery in the
British Empire by 1833. The three causes were what the Abolitionists did, actions took by the slaves
and the economic reasons.
The White Campaigners The Abolitionists Parliament passed on the Slavery Abolition Act in 1833.
The act gave all slaves in the British Empire their freedom. It was one of the great issues of the 19th
century. By 1833 ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
By 1800, there were slaves being sold in Britain and being taken against their will to the West Indies,
but most black people in Britain were free through their own efforts. Some slaves rebelled as source 3
shows us, quot; slaves on the island of St Dominique set fire the sugar cane, quot; this portrays the
image that if they started being more aggressive towards the plantation owners business then they
would be scared and try to make a treaty with them. This treaty would have rules like payment must
be allowed or they won t work and many other rules and regulations to make it fair on the slaves
working extremely hard for 15 hours or more labor. There were other methods in which slaves used
against their owners so they would be freed or payed these were, act ill, work less hard, sabotage
crops, act stupid also pretend they don t know English even though they have been in that plantation
area or 10 years or more; this would create the owner a huge cost in money and they would loose all
they re profit. They would have no choice to either free the slaves or pay them. This second reason
links in with the economy problems because the slaves sabotaged and rebelled against the plantation
owners fields and crops causing the owners huge costs and reductions from rich to poor.
The last reason for the abolition of slavery was that it was no longer making such a profit. From the
1770s onwards the West Indies were becoming less

Essay on Apostolic Ministry in Rome
Apostolic Ministry in Rome
According to tradition, there are two apostles who ministered in Rome. While some modern scholars
question whether the Apostle Peter was ever in Rome, he is certainly the most celebrated Apostle of
the city. A simple example of this is that the largest basilica in Rome (and one of the largest in the
world) is named in honor of Saint Peter. The Apostle Paul s existence in Rome is less disputed and
even though he is less commemorated nearly two millennia later. The circumstances surrounding Peter
and Paul s arrivals in Rome, their ministries in Rome, and their deaths are worth examining since
these two figures are still remembered nearly two millennia after their ministries in Rome.

This letter implies that the suggestion that Peter had ministered in Rome was common knowledge in
the early second century (Kirsch Sec. IV).? In the middle of the second century, after having spent
time in Rome, Iren›Î of Lyons ?described the Roman Church as the most prominent and chief
preserver of the Apostolic tradition, as ?the greatest and most ancient church, known by all, founded
and organized at Rome by the two most glorious Apostles, Peter and Paul?? (Kirsch Sec. IV).? There
are many other testimonies to Paul and Peter spending time in Rome including the apocryphal Acts of
St. Peter and the Acts of Sts. Peter and Paul.
While Peter?s visit to Rome is primarily mentioned in extra Biblical literature, Paul?s visit to Rome is
mentioned in some of his epistles and in Acts.? During his third missionary journey, Paul?s ministry to
Rome has clearly already begun even before he has ever traveled there.? While at Corinth, he writes to
the Roman Church in view of his intention to go to Spain because the gospel had yet to be preached
there.? Paul also states that another intention of his is to stay for a time in Rome (Romans 15:14ff, 24,
28).? This comes about through a different series of events than one might expect.? Paul, unlike Peter,
is a Roman citizen.? After being falsely accused by Jewish leaders of Jerusalem and subsequently two

Tsunami is not just a single giant wave, it may even consist of ten or more waves which is then termed
as: Tsunami Wave Train . Tsunami possesses kinetic energy and a mass of water which can cause
devastation through kineticism and flooding. There is an international tsunami warning system and
certain regional tsunami warning systems are also in placed.
Pakistan is shielded to a greater extent from the Tsunami of the Pacific Ocean and Bay of Bengal due
to the Indian land mass, however, Tsunamis accruing in the Indian Ocean do effect us. In 1935 a
Tsunami struck the Pakistan coast killing nearly 4000 people.
Cyclone
Cyclone is basically a low atmospheric pressure region surrounded by high atmospheric pressure due
to which there are powerful winds accompanied by rain. These are normally found in the tropical and
temperate regions of the world. Cyclones are also known as Typhoons, Hurricanes and Tornadoes.
Cyclones are normally found in the sea and finish off in the sea, however, certain cyclones intrude
inland and cause death and destruction.
Pakistan has been lucky that Cyclones in this part of the world are not very frequent. This may have in
part to do with the makeup of the Arabian Sea. However, Cyclones which have occurred in the past
did cause considerable damage to the coastal areas affecting the livelihood of the people living on the

Outsourcing Repairs On Major Aircraft Components
Outsourcing Repairs on Major Aircraft Components: The Financial and Time Saving Benefits.
Executive Summary
For decades airlines have turned to third party Maintenance Repair and Overhaul (MRO) facilities and
contractors to take on the tasks of performing maintenance on their fleet of aircraft s. But over the past
few years, airline companies have been relying on these facilities more and more due to the supply
and demand of air travel. Third party MRO s provide a service of outsourced labor to perform
maintenance on the aircraft s, which allows airline companies to focus on other things. These MRO
facilities specialize in a vast amount of maintenance, from basic line maintenance checks, all the way
to nose to tail ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Sacrificing an aircraft to be out of commission for a couple weeks is more cost effective than having
to perform lengthy maintenance procedures such as engine overhauls and phase maintenance by our
crew. Third party companies such as Lockheed Martin, Northrop Grumman, and even Rolls Royce are
used to do certain types of maintenance and troubleshoot problems for airline companies. A 1997
General Accounting Office (GAO) report estimated that one half of the maintenance performed by
United States airlines is actually outsourced to repair stations, creating an extremely competitive
environment within the third party aviation maintenance industry (FAA, 2003.) Not only does
outsourcing maintenance save money in the short term, it also saves money in the long term.
Many third party organizations are providing long term service contracts with airlines so that they can
feel secure and know that the cost for parts and labor will not fluctuate throughout the years. This is
why many airlines have created alliances and service agreements with many Original Equipment
Manufacturer (OEM) and third party Maintenance Repair and Overhaul (MRO) stations to perform
their maintenance and servicing. Another benefit of outsourcing is that it allows the airlines to cut
back permanent maintenance personnel. This saves them money by reducing paid out salaries for long
term workers. As head of the Maintenance department with

Fast Food Advertising Causing Obesity
Fast Food Advertising Causing Obesity
I think America s food culture is embedded in fast food culture. And the real question that we have is:
How are we going to teach slow food values in a fast food world? Of course, it s very, very difficult to
do, especially when children have grown up eating fast food and the values that go with that (Waters).
The fast food industry is controlled by many powerful companies who feel the need to keep costs low.
This is because they believe that the lower the costs, the more consumers they ll gain, which keeps
profits high. Between 1960 and 1973, McDonald s restaurants expanded from 250 to 3,000. The US is
the most notorious for fast food, which is tied up with the first automobile before WWI. The ... Show

Fast food is a major health issue because it causes obesity. In the article, Obesity and Fast Food , Dr.
Anaya Mandel claims, It is well known that eating out may lead to excess calorie intake and increases
the risk of obesity because of large portion sizes and increased energy density of foods (1). This author
is stating that restaurants such as McDonald s can cause obesity. Thus, eating at any fast food
restaurant can increase chances of obesity. Meals at these restaurants are cheap, therefore people in a
rush or people who regularly consume fast foods will end up buying the cheaper and greasier meals.
The dollar menu on many fast food restaurant drive in menus may seem like a better buy to customers,
but, the cookies, sweets, and sandwiches are all what creates the fats in their bodies. It will eventually
increase the calories in their body and cause them to gain weight and develop obesity. American
psychological association article states, in America, the rates of obesity have about tripled in children
and youths(1). Younger people in America have started gaining weight

The Case Of O.j. Simpson
The Unfolding Case of O.J. Simpson
Rachel S. Hillyard
Utah State University
Abstract
The unsolved murders of Nicole Brown Simpson and Ronald L. Goldman has become one of the most
discussed cases in all of history. Orenthal James O.J. Simpson, the formal professional football player
and the ex husband of Nicole Brown has always been the main suspect in this case. Although found
not guilty by the jury, many still believe he was the killer. In this paper, we will discuss in great detail
the events that took place at the time of the murder, as well as why or why not O.J. is guilty. If O.J. isn
t guilty, who could have been the mastermind behind these murders?

10:58pm Allan Park sees a shadowy figure. When asked to describe this figure, he says the person was
about 6 feet tall and approximately 200 pounds walking across the driveway towards the house.
11:00pm Allan Park tries buzzing O.J. s intercom again and this time O.J. answers. O.J. tells the driver
that he had overslept and had just gotten out of the shower.
11:45pm O.J. departs on an American Airlines flight to Chicago.
12:10am the bodies of Nicole Brown Simpson and Ronald L. Goldman are discovered outside of her
townhome stabbed to death.
The Days After
At around 5:00am the detectives on the case arrive at O.J. s home. The evidence found at the scene of
the crime was a bloody glove and a dark grey knitted hat said to have been left by the killer, and
bloody footprint in the driveway of O.J. s estate. Immediately after O.J. s flight lands in Chicago,
Detective Ron Phillips informs him that his ex wife is dead. O.J. s first response: Who killed her?
Upon arriving home from Chicago, O.J. was immediately taken into custody by LAPD where he was
then questioned for three hours but was later released. On June 17, 1994 O.J. was charged with two

A Marvelous Journey of Return in The Kingdom of This World...
A Marvelous Journey of Return
The Kingdom of This World by Alejo Carpentier is the author s journey of return to his Latin
American root. He tries to decipher the myths and complexity of African identity and achieves it by
opening up a new realm of interpretation and representation through literature work.
In the novel, there are elements that can only come as a result of his experience of observing,
questioning and criticizing, among which I think several are very noteworthy. First is Carpentier s
reflection of his own identity search in the novel, second is his application of magic realism in the
writing that shows the juxtaposition between fiction and history and lastly, his depiction of a repeating
cycle of the Haitian history in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Carpentier himself is a very representative individual to illustrate his perspective of being part of the
culture but not the entirety of it due to his mixed background.
Carpentier s literature represents a type of root seeking nature of his race. By exploring the blended
culture of Latin America on the Haitian island, Carpentier does not deny the legacy of some Western
civilization, but more importantly, he defines how the native culture coexists with exotic cultures on
the island based on a multiculturalism view. The reality in his novel demonstrates a special
relationship between Black people s culture and the French culture. The two cultures coexist, collide
and oppose each other at times and they become a cultural juxtaposition in an atemporal state.
Overall, I think Carpentier really initiated a unique way of returning and finding authentic identity of
the people on his homeland in the form of literature work. His good control of the pace and timing of
the travel can be seen as a counterbalance to the disorder of time and space embedded in the story.
While deliberately displacing and altering between historical facts and fictional plots, I think
Carpentier takes control of the display of his ideas in a very subtle way. There exists a parallel
relationship between the developments of the story in the novel to the actual history. Instead of
creating random

Grief And Trauma
Introduction:
I have learned a lot in the Intro to Abuse course, including how I respond to traumatic events; how
abuse affects attachment and how my caregivers affected my self esteem; my resiliency as well as the
skills, traits and professionalism necessary to work effectively with abused children. I will use this
knowledge to develop a better understanding of myself and to become a better Child and Youth Care
practitioner.
Grief and Trauma:
This course has taught me how I respond to traumatic events. For example, this past summer, I was
demoted without warning from a job in which I was extremely invested in and passionate about. On
day three of my job, I was suddenly transferred involuntarily from my position working with children
with special ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As a young child, my parents unintentionally negatively impacted my self esteem in a variety of
different ways. Due to my undiagnosed learning disability, I often misinterpreted or failed to
understand rules and instructions without my parents realizing it. I would frequently get in trouble
because I broke a rule or failed to do what my parents wanted me to without even knowing it. My
parents thought that I was just being difficult so they would yell at me or punish me and because I had
no idea what I had done wrong, I felt like I was a bad kid because I was always getting in trouble. I
would also misinterpret what my parents were trying to say a lot of the time, which was also often
damaging to my self esteem. For example, when I scored my first goal playing hockey I was so
excited and proud of myself and thought my parents would be too, since they would always tell our
family if one of my siblings scored. However, my dad told me that he did not care if I scored a goal
and I interpreted it to mean that he did not care about me or that I scored and only cared if my siblings
did, but what he meant was that he was proud of me whether I scored or not as long as I was doing my
best. My parents also damaged my self esteem by belittling me or shaming me when they got
frustrated because I was not doing what they wanted. For example, my parents would say things like,
why can t you be more like your sister, she can put her seat belt on, why can t you? . This led me to
feel like there was something wrong with me and that I wasn t good enough. It also caused me to start
comparing myself to my siblings, which made me feel inadequate because it seemed like no matter
how hard I tried, I could never measure up to what they could do. However, once my parents
discovered that I had a learning disability that caused me to misinterpret nonverbal, social and
complicated verbal cues, they did their best to

Involvement Plan For Family Analysis
Family Involvement Plan
Multiculturalism in today s society has become more prominent and something that needs to be
addressed based on specific as well as on an individual level based on many different aspects. There
are lots of different actions that can be taken, classes, seminars, books, internet webinars and such.
However; I believe that none of this is effective without the interaction and hands on approach from
the parents, famiies, teachers and the school administration itself. We can all sit back and quarterback
a situation, but until it is in our own lap, we don t know how or what we would do to assure that the
children that this effects is provided with the equal educational opportunities that they deserve. I

We currently use a Parent Teacher Partnerhip program. We create classroom study teams where
parents and sudents get together to form study groups. This not only familiarizes families with one
another, but also gets them involved in their childs learning in a fun way. We have school advisory
groups where parents can go for advice or help where they feel at a loss or are just looking for
guidance. Multicultural planning sessions have also bee a success. I have to say that one of the most
effective and easiest to put into place and keep up with in our already crazy school day is the Parents
as Resource Persons group. This group provides cultural items such as pictures, recipes and
experiences to the classroom. The teacher then integrates learning from the derived materials creating
reading lists, learning centers and even have gone as far as to create a cultural fair. A few other things
that I found to be interesting and feel would be a great asset are a School Family Curriculum. This
group provides those in need with various items to stimulate conversation about their cultures. There
are also Anti Bias Alert programs which will alert parents when television programs are appropriate or
inappropriate to view based on cultural diversity. Parent education support groups work in many
positive ways, setting appropriate and meaningful goals, setting up

  • 3. Review on the Novel Atonement Review on Atonement It is not often that the protagonist of a story be the anathema of the story as well and it is even more of a rarity that the particular character be a young child. Yet, this is exactly what Ian McEwan has done with his Crime Novel, Atonement. McEwan intentionally turns his readers against Briony Tallis, a young girl transitioning from the naivete of childhood into the new and confusing years of adolescence; a point in one s life when mistakes are dubbed as necessary stepping stones to further understand one s self rather than life long regrets and unsubduable self loathing. McEwan takes the innocence of childhood and juxtaposes it with despicable crimes and unchangeable mistakes, thus creating a protagonist the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Robbie Turner is trying to survive each turbulent day in war with thoughts of Cecilia as motivation. McEwan describes World War Two brilliantly by creating scenes of unthinkable death and suffering whilst threading hope and love to convey the complexities of war. It s during these pages that the reader realizes the full consequence of Briony s actions. Briony herself, witnessing the horror and carnage of war in the hospital, is distraught as ever about the incident. She has stopped writing thus imprisoning the same imagination that destroyed so many relationships. Cecilia defended Robbie against her family, and in doing so cut them off entirely, the foremost being Briony. This only intensifies the readers distaste for Briony and the effect she let herself make. Her internal conflict evolves for the worse with time, and even with the sacrifices she makes, it is clear atonement is far off in the distance from herself, her family, Robbie, or the reader.McEwan takes what is ethical and distorts it using the relationships between the characters. He uses some of the most sensitive relationships, such as sisters and lovers, to evoke questions in the reader: what mistake could lead to a loss of family? Of love? Family is often a symbol of eternal love, but in Atonement, that symbol is shattered. The bonds of family love cannot always be healed with apologies. McEwan integrates the unchangeable law that an action must have a reaction, some of which, can never be ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. Hedonistic Treadmill Research Thousands of kilograms of plastic enter the oceans every minute. However, consumers do not see the severity of their consumptive lifestyles. Instead, they go to their favorite coffee shop, order a drink and then throw away the cup once they are done. Many do not look for recycling bins, and almost all consumers do not think about where their garbage goes after they throw it away. A majority of consumers simply think their old coffee cups fill in a landfill, but what many do not know is that some people consume up to 11,000 pieces of plastic a year along with their seafood (Walsh, Formanek, Loo and Phillips). Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Tocqueville thought that individualism could be associated with individual value, dignity, happiness, interests and freedom. At the same time, he endowed it into relatively complete theoretical connotations (Alexis de Tocqueville, 1988). Firstly, it emphasizes the ultimate purpose is for individual interests. Society is just a tool that serves people. Secondly, it stresses on individual freedom and democracy. Thirdly, it points out from personal view the rightness of privatization of property. American historian Commager thought that individualism eventually became the synonym of Americanism (1988). In the Longman Dictionary of Contemporary English of the 1997 edition, individualism is defined as two concepts. One is the belief that the rights and freedom of individual people are the most important rights in a society. The other is the behavior or attitude of someone who does things in their own way without being influenced by other people. On the contrary, individualism is defined as pejorative connotation in The Contemporary Chinese Dictionary (2005). It points out that individualism means some people who just care about their own interests instead of collective interests, which is not a right idea. By the analysis of the definition of individualism it s clear that the pattern of Chinese culture stresses people s inner world and embodies in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 8. Edwin Arlington Robinson’s The Mill Essay Edwin Arlington Robinson s The Mill Lucius Beebe critically analyzes Edwin Arlington Robinson s, The Mill best. Beebe s analysis is from an objective point of view. He points out to the reader that what seems so obvious may not be. She notes The Mill is just a sad little tale of double suicide brought on by the encroachment of the modern world and by personal loss. Thus meaning The Mill carries a deeper underlying theme. Lucius Beebe expresses that a minor overflow of significant details has been exposed over Edwin Arlington Robinson s The Mill, much of it concerned with whether the miller s wife did indeed drown herself after the miller had hanged himself. Another, even more provocative question has never been asked: did the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The colon after said implies an appositive clause equal in value to what went before, here the thoughts of the miller s wife as she waited by the dead fire. There are no millers anymore, / Was all that she had heard him say closes the parenthesis of past perfect tense that the first line opens, containing within it the miller s actual words, which Beebe and the reader can take to be the objective fulcrum upon which the rest of this intensely subjective poem balances. It is even clearer that the past perfect is this stanza s essential condition of being when we come to the second past perfect verb, had lingered, found in a clause subordinate to the one before. Thus, Lucius Beebe points out that Robinson sets up the stanza as a sort of verbal chandelier, with one clause hanging upon the meaning and mode of that before, and with the framework of past perfect verbs giving definition and tone to the whole. Robinson achieves much the same effect in the second stanza, which opens with the miller s wife sick with a fear that had no form, which implies that the fear has a continuation in the past. Beebe implies that a certain poetic inertia militates against supposing change, and much more is needed to indicate or certify such change than exists. This hypothesis is reinforced by the rest of the stanza, a single sentence formed by a pair of past conditional clauses. What he had meant, as direct object, parallels What else ... But through their family s story one is able to understand some of the conditions people were under during that time period. However, the family was no fully Jewish. Max Lowenstein was Jewish but Marie Steinberg was from Estonia, as a result their son Henry was half Jewish but their daughter who was from not born from Marie s marriage with Max was not Jewish. Nevertheless, the family still received tremendous persecution. His father was a doctor and his mother an artist. But both were very artistic, as Henry Lowenstein mentions in the video. He remembers growing up in an apartment where there were always performers in their home; the place was decorated with art, his parents always went to the theater, and his mother would take him to different museums in Berlin. • 10. E Voting And Its Effect On Voting Introduction E voting is an e government concept that uses the Internet to allow people to vote. The use of e voting is usually applied by countries and companies. In companies, this use of e voting can be used in shareholder meetings or other instances where it is not physically possible for all individuals with a vote to be present. E voting is a new concept that has recently been used by countries that are not willing to dedicate the necessary funds to provide paper votes. The use of e voting eliminates the use of paper and ensures that voter turnout will be higher as it will eliminate issues with travelling to the voting venue and waiting in any lines that may occur. In addition, the process of tallying votes will be far faster since e voting will eliminate the manual counting of votes as well as issues such as the vote counting machine malfunctioning. E votes will be counted using software designed to tally votes. The concept of e voting has been analyzed to ensure that it is a fair process. The fairness of this new type of voting will be critical to its acceptance. However, there is a portion of the population which feels that the system can be easily manipulated and argue that the Internet is vulnerable to hacker attacks, something that can lead to an invalid and unfair result. With advanced technology, it should be relatively easy for IT experts to devise ways that will ensure that the system will not be hacked. Literature Review Marcus, J. 2010. Technical ... The Joads are forced off of their farm in Oklahoma by the banks and drought, and they, like many other families of the time, head out for the promised land of California. The power of unity is emphasized through the main events of the novel when the Joads leave the government camp and in the strike at the peach fields. The government camp governs and polices itself, has clean camp spaces and large bathrooms with modern conveniences. • 12. The Deregulation Of The Electricity Market What deregulation means The term liberalization or deregulation generally refers to the abolition of rights of monopolies, creating a competitive market that guarantees fair prices for the consumers and efficient economic cost of supplying electricity. Three economic conditions are a prerequisite to a competitive market in order to achieve a successful transformation from a highly regulated monopolistic to a transparent and deregulated market: Free consumer choice: consumers must be able to freely choose their electric energy supplier after having compared prices and services of competing electricity supply companies), Third party access (TPA): free and competitive market has to guarantee unimpeded access to transmission and distribution networks for companies which do not own them. Otherwise, competition in the electricity market would not be possible due to the physical characteristics and the natural monopolistic market design within the sector Unbundling: transmission and distribution networks have to be separated from the generation and retail business of vertically integrated utilities Description of the electricity market First of all, it is to mention that the electricity sector is a comparatively complex one. Expression Dance The Expression of Dance Cultures use a variety non verbal communication, some put more emphasis on specific channels, including facial expressions, body language, vocal tone, and eye contact. However, there is one medium that is repeatedly shown high significance, dance. Although they way people move their bodies to rhythm vary, the feelings that seem to be communicated are similar if not the same. Some popular messages include love, intimacy, sexual attraction, companionship, and even sympathy. Some of the simplest ways to observe subliminal messages is by identifying interactions between dancing partners, clothing choices, and dancing style. Dance is the hidden language of the soul. Martha Graham What is the significance of the interaction between dance partners? In it s most simplest form, dance is purely an announcement that meet other people. Described in Interplay, this is called initiating the opening stage of all relations, not just romantic ones. Friendships start here, and so do business partnerships. (Adler, Ronald B) In other words, when you ask someone to dance, it opens the possibility of a new friendship and possibly a connection to other people and more relationships. A study of adolescents in schools put it another way. Shared social or physical activities can systematically affect the emergence of ties between individuals in a social network. It follows the story of a preteen girl named Riley and her emotions that are represented as characters in the film, with an angle of meeting the little voices inside your head . Representing the five major emotions are the characters Joy, Sadness, Anger, Disgust and Fear, who take us on a journey through the brightly coloured, amazing, exhilarating wonderland of Riley s mind, conquering many troubles along the way. I thoroughly enjoyed this film and found that although aimed at a younger audience I think it touches on very relevant topics that are essential for life, such as individuality and acceptance of others, that are both resourceful and important for everyone of all ages to know and learn about making it an appealing and enjoyable film for all. The concept of acceptance of others was definitely present throughout the entire film, however the full effect and realisation of this concept didn t come into play till towards the end of movie when I felt personally, a realisation sensation stuck. In the beginning of the film we are introduced to the characters who represent Riley s emotions. Although each are responsible for certain areas of Riley in particular, it is strongly apparent that the emotion Joy is the ringleader within the group, and takes pride in being so. Joy however is a character that contradicts another one of the emotions Sadness, as you would expect. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In 1973, Michael Young and Peter Willmott conducted studies of family life within the London area and concluded that the development and changes within the structure of family life can be sorted into three categories of time. (Van Krieken et al. 2017, p. 107). The pre industrial family (up until the early 19th century), the early industrial family (Industrial Revolution early 20th century) and the symmetrical family (20th century onwards). The Industrial Revolution completely transformed family life. In the 1970s, female social scientists, such as Meg Luxton, began to explore different concepts of family life. (Fox 2015, p. 205). Luton s 1980 book More Than a Labour of Love examines the gender inequalities women faced where men earned wages and women were expected to act as full time unpaid domestic workers within the home. Therefore, as a byproduct of this Revolution, women became increasingly independent and career motivated. (Volarevic 2012, p. 223). Consequently, women were becoming less domestically oriented, and as a result, were disrupting the family structure. However, this caused major controversy, as many functionalists were dissatisfied with this change. When exploring the functionalist perspective, many analysts view the work of Talcott Parsons. Parsons argues that society establishes several institutions in which reflect a shared valued system. (Grimes 1988, p. 183). He claims that each institution conduct functional tasks in order to sustain social order. Therefore, when change was brought about, many perceived moral chaos. Feminist sociologists combatted this argument by declaring that the ideology of the traditional family structure was of disadvantage to women. (Hare Mustin 1978, p. 1). My ideal land ethic would be similar to that of the time period when the US was first being settled. Alessandro composes also but his interests actually lie more with philosophy, mathematics, history, chemistry, painting and poetry. Alessandro has a small body of work in music. This is probably due to him being much more of a figure head in the Venetian government since his father passed away in 1707. Benedetto has a much larger body of work composing of many instrumental and sacred vocal pieces. Formal equivalency is a word for word translation where it is conservative which translates words as accurate as possible from the first language. Dynamic equivalency is meaning for meaning or phrase to phrase . This means that the translator is writing down the best paraphrase he could make based on his own judgment. This is dangerous because you have to trust his understanding of what the text is saying rather then you making the interpretation. This is beneficial because it is easy to read and follow but has many doors open to skewed meanings. Jennifer Beatson, in the journal titled, Christian Scholar s Review Issue 34.1 of fall 2004, She reviews The Word of God in English: Criteria for Excellence in Bible Translation by Leland Ryken. Ryken cites the trends leading to a large growing of English Bible translations, and the need to evaluate their merits. One of his main criticisms is the dynamic equivalence used in practically all modern translations. He claims that these works, (1) they lack literary excellence, and (2) they do not faithfully translate the original biblical texts (Beatson 134). He holds that only formal or word for word translations should be used because they hold true to the original text and author. Endothelial Inos Research Paper Nitric oxide (NO) is an important cellular signaling molecule that participates in diverse physiological functions in mammals, including vasodilation, smooth muscle relaxation, neurotransmission, and the immune response. NO, a free radical, is produced by a family of enzymes called nitric oxide synthases (NOS) by the oxidation of L arginine to L citrulline. There are three isoforms of NOS. Two of them, neuronal NOS (nNOS) and endothelial NOS (eNOS), are constitutively expressed, while the third one is inducible and is thus termed iNOS. nNOS is primarily found in the nervous system and is necessary for neuronal signaling, while eNOS is localized to the endothelium and is essential for vasodilation and control of blood pressure (5). The director, perhaps already adept at navigating the ragged breakers of length contraction and visual style, is forced to deal with the additional sandbar presented by a plot format in which no visual action occurs and, more often than not, this difficulty consequently runs the film aground. Kenneth Branagh, in bringing Mary Shelley s Frankenstein to the screen as Mary Shelley s Frankenstein, succinctly sidesteps this potential pitfall by completely discarding the epistolary format; rather than existing as a lengthy letter penned to Mrs. Saville, the plot is presented as an overheard conversation between Victor and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Continuing, Mrs. Saville is presented as incapable of understanding Walton s frigid trip: he supposes she shall not understand this feeling (Shelley 15), and that her surprise at discovering Victor would have been boundless (Shelley 22). Margaret is therefore illustrated as a woman unqualified to truly comprehend the extraordinary; although the text is primarily addressed to her, its subject matter, consisting of astonishing expeditions, fantastical scientific discoveries, and blood congealed with horror (Shelley 156), would be quite outside her domestic sphere of a husband, and lovely children (Shelley 157). As the novel is represented as the non fictional writings of an arctic explorer, in order to find its way into print Mrs. Saville must edit and publish Walton s account; logically, Walton s framing letters to his sister are superfluous if he himself edited the story, as he more likely would have written his own travelogue detailing his expedition upon his return rather then printing personal letters. Given Mrs. Saville s inability to appreciate the fantastic elements within Walton s story, it is entirely possible that she, in editing the tale for print, altered any or all of Walton s, Victor s, and the Creature s accounts in some unknowable fashion before publishing them. The reader, realizing that a second party may have altered and thus contaminated the narratives, is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

For example Richard Nixon, Dwight D. This allowed for Richard Nixon to easily reach out to the majority of voters and convince them that they should still vote for Eisenhower. Another example of the usage of television in the 1952 election was the tactic of the candidates campaigning with their wives (Parker 1). • 36. The Gambino Crime Family Paul Castellano, or Big Paul was an eight grade dropout and boss of the richest, most dangerous, and most powerful crime syndicate in the United States. Born June 26, 1915 in Brooklyn, Big Paul began his life in the mob by running numbers. When he was named successor to the great Carlo Gambino, trouble arose. Many members felt that Aniello Dellacroce, although in prison, deserved the role but instead Gambino had promoted Paul. Some saw this as nepotism which was generally frowned upon on by La Cosa Nostra. To settle tensions Castellano gifted Neil Dellacroce some of the family s most lucrative operations throughout Manhattan and Queens, but this did not completely satisfy the slighted underboss. Paul, like Gambino, was an unusual type of Mafia boss. Unfortunately, while Don Carlo was revolutionary, Big Paul was unsatisfactory. He was embarrassed that he was categorized as a gangster and preferred to be regarded as a diplomat or businessman. Big Paul was said to look more like a businessman or CEO than a mobster. Paul Castellano was flashy too; he liked elegant clothing, fine dining, and being driven around by chauffeur. He even detested violence which is not a good quality for a mob boss to obtain. The Pope as he was referred to, was standoffish. His predecessor had gone to the markets in Little Italy, held court in public places, lived in the city, and interacted with his soldiers and capos. Quite often lies are integrated into society in order to manipulate the minds of the receiver(s) and ultimately shape the community in a particular way. The Village a 2004 by M. Night Shyamalen is indicative of this fact. A culture (even one based on fear) can flourish through use of ritual communication. First off to fully grasp the significance of ritual communication behind the movie, The Village one must first understand what exactly it is. Around the era of slavery more people were for it than against it. Even though there were too less people against it, they were still stronger believers. In this essay I will be discussing the persuasive arguments and events that took place to cause the abolition of slavery in the British Empire by 1833. The three causes were what the Abolitionists did, actions took by the slaves and the economic reasons. The White Campaigners The Abolitionists Parliament passed on the Slavery Abolition Act in 1833. Some slaves rebelled as source 3 shows us, quot; slaves on the island of St Dominique set fire the sugar cane, quot; this portrays the image that if they started being more aggressive towards the plantation owners business then they would be scared and try to make a treaty with them. This treaty would have rules like payment must be allowed or they won t work and many other rules and regulations to make it fair on the slaves working extremely hard for 15 hours or more labor. There were other methods in which slaves used against their owners so they would be freed or payed these were, act ill, work less hard, sabotage crops, act stupid also pretend they don t know English even though they have been in that plantation area or 10 years or more; this would create the owner a huge cost in money and they would loose all they re profit. They would have no choice to either free the slaves or pay them. This second reason links in with the economy problems because the slaves sabotaged and rebelled against the plantation owners fields and crops causing the owners huge costs and reductions from rich to poor.
