Theme Of Social Class In Pride And Prejudice
Most living creatures abide by a social structure of some sort. Between groups of animals there is the
dominance of the Alpha, and the submission of the Omega. Among humans, there is a similar setup, but
rather than size and strength, other factors often come into play. Wealth and status with others make for a
bigger social ladder among human beings, and this can cause many weaknesses in the way people treat
one another, and think. There are some who embrace these problems, and some who wish to change it.
Sometimes, it is something as simple as a piece of writing that addresses these issues. In her novel Pride
and Prejudice, Jane Austen uses her characters to break common social class structure, and reveal that it
is actions that define a person, and not circumstance.
In Pride and Prejudice, many of the characters reveal a depth that reaches beyond what is perceived by
even other characters, already revealing the kinks in social class. The main male protagonist, Mr.
Fitzwilliam Darcy is one of the most controversial characters, and from the very beginning has two sides
to him that show a person underneath the circumstantial shell. In the article Themes and Construction:
Pride and Prejudice it is noted that What separates Elizabeth and Darcy from the silly minor characters
[...] is their ability and willingness to learn and grow, to overcome their initial shortcomings (Themes). It
is undeniable that Darcy began with amount considerable amount of both pride and

The Golden Age In The Elizabethan Era
The Elizabethan era was a time full of superstition and persecution, however it was also the beginning of
a new age, The Golden Age as it is commonly referred to. During this time the people of England were
beginning to progress, in a scientific and artistic way. Music wasn t the only thing that was developing,
science and philosophy were also flourishing.
There was a reason that music began to become an everyday part of life under Queen Elizabeth s rule.
The queen herself even had a musical background and it was well known that music was her favorite art
form. She also took a great interest in supporting experienced musicians and composers. From Elizabeth
s interest in the arts, her people went from generational family songs to reformed masterpieces from great
men, such as William Byrd, Thomas Morley, and Thomas Weelkes. The society and culture that Queen
Elizabeth helped create differentiates from many cultures we have learned about in class. In other
cultures, such as China, someone who has career in the arts is typically seen as a lower social class
citizen, whereas in England the making of an educated and upper class man must be fluent in musical
theory. We can tell by an excerpt from The Compleat Gentleman written by Henry Peacham in 1622, that
the basic role of a gentleman was to sing your part sure, and at first sight, withall, to play the same upon
your viol, or exercise of the lute.
During this time there was a wide variety of instruments used and some are

The Young and the Digital
The Young and the Digital
Many have been researching the various problematic assumptions and ideas of youth and the social
media, but few have actually been able to prove that youth and technology could be helpful or harmful.
S. Craig Watkins and Danah Boyd have accomplished the task of studying youth and social media, and
have come to the conclusion that social media has given youth a different perspective on life. In The
Young and the Digital article, we see many believe that technology has been shaping our kids. The
question remains, whether the social media such as MySpace and Facebook are affecting the way teens

What Is The Theme Of The Golden Lily By Gold Sartin
The devious plot line jumped back and forth in time as to portray the tumultuous era of Malaysia s
independence after World War Two. In the novel, different factions vied for control of this newly
independent country including communist insurgents, British settlers, Malaysian and the Chinese
ethnicities. The communists wanted to establish a communist regime while the Chinese folks wanted to
preserve their economic gains. The power struggle happens under the eyes of two former imperialist
occupying forces: the Japanese and British. This plot has another added layer: imperial Japan planned to
strip and loot the former colonies of their precious resources and wealth, a plan called Golden Lily.
Tatsuji found out this plan while doing the artistic ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Was he really stripped from his position as the Emperor s private gardener or was he given a special
mission to ensure the success of the mysterious Golden Lily s plan? The question is left up to the readers
to decide. In the novel the author only provides the facts through different characters action such as
Tatsuji s research on the Golden Lily plan. Was the tattoo on Yun Ling a map of the concentration s
camp? Metaphorically it may also represent the mark of the past and the tumultuous Japanese
occupation. Is his disappearance a sign of revolt in the face of Japanese atrocities or an attempt to destroy
the traces of Japanese atrocities perpetuated in the name of the emperor? Like a boulder, the reader can
only see the visible surface of his personality. Yun Ling mentions: he turned to me, touching the side of
his head lightly. At that moment it struck me that he was similar to the boulders on which we had spent
the entire morning working. Only a small portion was revealed to the world; the rest was buried deep
within, hidden from view. He is the picture of an ideal spy: he is one of the main characters in the novel
but we don t see his true personality; he remains a shadow like those in Plato s cave. Is it a sign of
denying the visible collective guilt? This novel may be the antithesis of Ruth Ozeki s work A Tale for the
Time Being when Ozeki tries to explain or show the Japan s reason to attack America

Descriptive Essay About Fear
Fear consumes me every moment of every day and with everything I do in my life. I am scared of failing,

This year is my last year of high school and then I am on my own in a big, bad world full of terrible

The Negative Impact Of Tariffs In The US
Apple Incorporated, Microsoft, and other high tech companies can benefit from tariffs being completely
wiped out. A tariff is a tax or a duty that is placed on an imported good or product that the government
imposes. It can be a negative impact that can affect both foreign and domestic economies in a trade.
Either way tariff was implemented because it has some good impacts. Impacts creating some gains of

The Vietnam Era Essay
The Vietnam Era HUMN 303N: Introduction to Humanities Professor Stacey Donald DeVry University
During the decades prior to the eighties the two most important issues the U.S. was facing were the war
in Vietnam and civil rights. This era changed the way the public was able view the events, there was
television and photography which allowed the world to see for the first time what war was about and
journalism was not always unbiased. This era was an era of advancement, where many protested the war,
there were the civil rights movement activists striving to gain equality for all regardless of color, sex,

Let s also keep in mind that the Vietnam War was the first war to receive such extensive media coverage
ever. The era of the Vietnam War was not only a time of war abroad but also in our own country, a war
against poverty and inequality. People of color were fighting for their rights to be seen as equals in the
labor force, education, and in the military. One of the famous leaders of the civil rights movement was
Martin Luther King Jr. who was backed by President Lyndon B, Johnson. President LBJ was interested in
creating welfare programs that would benefit those in poverty and give them hope, he was all about
creating a level playing field to create opportunities that would benefit society as a whole. According to
the Virginia Historical Society there was a piece written by P. B. Young, editor of the Norfolk Journal and
Guide, a newspaper at the time, wrote a few touching words to Liberals, Help us get some of the
blessings of democracy here at home before you jump on the free other peoples band wagon and tell us
to go forth and die in a foreign land. To add to this President Roosevelt s wife, Eleanor, said The nation
cannot expect the colored people to feel that the U.S. is worth defending if they continue to be treated as
they are treated now. Despite of the discrimination that young black men faced in the military it was still
a better option than being unemployed and living in poverty.

Key Ideas In The Film The Killing Fields
What is the main idea of The Killing Fields ? In the film The Killing Fields , there are lots of key ideas,
which make the film watchable and likeable. One of the key ideas of The Killing Fields is the
development of the friendship between, Dith Pran and Sydney Shanberg. Another key idea, in the film, is
survival. Survival was an important factor for Pran as he was captured, and was taken to a working camp
where, the Khmer Rouge ran the camps. The main idea of The Killing Fields is the lasting friendship,
between Dith Pran and Sydney Shanberg. At the start of the film, Shanberg is experiencing lots of
horrific things, right beside Pran and no matter what happens, they stick together, through it all. When
Shanberg found out the American embassy was going to be evacuated, he told Pran to get his family out
of Cambodia. Therefore Shanberg helped out Pran, and his family. This helps Pran and Shanberg create a
stronger relationship. Another example of how strong their friendship is, was when the American
Embassy was evacuated, despite all the dangers that they are going to faced, they decided they would
stay in Cambodia and finish the story together. Again showing how strong Shanberg and Pran s
friendship is. Another major example to show how Shanberg and Pran s friendship is very strong, is

Slow To Remove Stigma Frank Haynie
Haynie believes the cause of this distorted reporting is due to three main problems: money, The Bedford
Guide for College Writers, 10th edition, includes the article: As Attitudes Shift on PTSD, Media Slow to
Remove Stigma, by Mike Haynie. Haynie, a U.S. Air Force veteran, is also the founder and executive
director of the Institute for Veterans and Military Families, at Syracuse University (546). In the article,
Haynie theorizes some in the media continue to perpetuate a stigma linking military service to mental
illness and violence (547). He reiterates President Bill Clinton s imperative that Mental illness is nothing
to be ashamed of. In Haynie s view, the inevitable financially driven media outlets are the main cause of
the continued stigma casting military veterans as criminally unstable. He views some outlets reporting as
being biased toward paper selling. Haynie points out, this [sensationalism] is seen in news articles

Sleep Deprivation And The Sleep Cycle
Sleeping is very important for everyone as it helps our body to rest and recover its energy. Anyone, who
doesn t sleep well, can have many disorders that we will discuss later. We have first to explain what is a
typical night`s sleep cycle then go ahead and describe how sleep deprivation impacts your ability to learn
and your health as well. Regular night`s sleep cycle can always be described in 4 stages N1, N2 and N3.
Where each stage has different information and different description. N1 can be said for light sleep. N2 is
for sleep spindles. N3 is for the delta waves. Also there is REM and NREM sleep which defers from one
stage to another. First stage will be N1 which is light sleep. In this stage your body starts to adjust itself
and the other organs that it is about to stop working. Where at this stage the body drift between sleeping
and out of sleep and it can be easily awakened from this stage. This stage affects the eye movement as it
makes it move slowly and the muscle activity as well starts to relax. Many people said that they
experienced sudden muscle contraction. There is also a hypnagogic images as hallucinations or vivid
visual events and hypinc jerk for the knees, legs and sometimes for the whole body Second stage is N2,
which can be expressed by sleep spindles as it is accompanied by stop of eye movement and different

Unnerving, spooky, disturbing, frightful... All common characteristics of a hauntingly terrific tale by the

his creativity to which he poured his problems into Gothic Literature, and he produced these unforeseen

Allan Poe s misfortunes. Symbolism is used throughout his short years of living as a narrative device for

also alludes numerous times to American history and culture, especially in the conclusion of her speech,
which comes in the form of a rapid succession of powerful images. The last of these is of a wagonload of
slaves three years before the Civil War, whose lives are saved from a frigid winter (however
momentarily) by the kindness of two youths (Morrison). Not only is this clearly tied into American
history, it also contains the distinctly American values of hope in the face of death, like the colonists had
against the crushing odds of the Revolutionary War, and unity in spire of differences after all, the
children are most likely white considering they had just exited an inn the slaves wouldn t have been
allowed into that would eventually lead to the passage of every Civil Rights law in the nation s history
(Morrison). Morrison uses an allegory to the Tower of Babel, saying that if the builders of the Tower had
simply learned to communicate with one another, they would not have had to seek heaven because they
would have already reached it (Morrison). This interpretation of the Tower of Babel is especially
meaningful in the context of America, which lives up to its

American Eagle Outfitters Analysis Essay
American Eagle Outfitters SWOT Analysis
The Silverman family first founded American Eagle Outfitters in 1977. They operated specialty clothing
stores under the name Retail Ventures. In 1980 the Silverman s encountered financial troubles when the

They need to work on earning the trust of their customers with their affordable prices and good quality of
the garments sold. In addition to customer loyalty, not enough time is spent on advertising of the
company. Because of the lack of advertising AE has experienced a loss of fashion sales in the recent
years. The store needs to reach out to its target market by providing more commercial or doing more
promotional work. American Eagle is challenged with determining what trends are appropriate for its
customers and how to interpret thee trends. Over the past two years, competitors such as Abercrombie
and Fitch have lowered their prices, which have created additional promotional pressure for American
Eagle. Some investors believe Aeropostale has the value niche and Abercrombie has the high end
positioning, so American Eagle is sometimes perceived as being stuck in the middle, without a true niche

American Eagle still has a lot of room to expand throughout the united States, Canada, as well as the

d) Substitute products and manufacturers in the same market
Although the market is dominated by HEV, the industries new car sales in 2015 by 86.1%, there is
evidence that the sales of 100% EV have recently experienced particularly strong growth. (Mason,

In this market, EV not only needs to compete with other EV from different manufacturers but also needs
to consider HEV as substitute products. EV and HEV belong to ULEV (Ultra Low Emission Vehicles)
An analysis of those who are active in the ULEV section of the hybrid and power markets shows how the
sector currently competes by a relatively limited number of manufacturers, please figure 1. Specifically,

The American Dream In The Virgin Suicides
Jeffrey Eugenides novel, The Virgin Suicides, depicts the lives of the Lisbon family. Within the novel, we
as readers, learn about the lives or more like the suicides of the 5 Lisbon girls: Cecilla, Lux, Bonnie,
Mary, and Therese. Through the suicides, Eugenide connects the fictional world of the novel to the
nonfictional world that we live in. Along with this, he also depicts his messages through different themes
such as the lack of freedom. Finally, Eugenides uses different postmodern approaches to his novel in
order to stress importance. The Virgin Suicides shows a clear depiction as to how the fictional world in
the novel can relate to the nonfictional world. Eugenindes uses two different concepts that prove this
connection. One connection is the presence of suicide. Another one is the depletion of the American
Dream. Each of these components comes together in order to connect to nonfictional world that we live
in. As readers can see from the title of the book, suicides will be a huge part of the novel. In the fictional
world of the book, readers see the suicides of 5 young sisters who all take their lives in different ways
except for two of them. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

takes place in the 1970 s in Detroit in a suburb. In the novel, the suburb is described as having all the

according to the American Dream. But the American Dream is destroyed in The Virgin Suicides because

Political And Media Systems And Ownership Practices
In an increasingly globalized and mediated environment, there is an evident rise in awareness towards
the emerging transnational news sphere, as well as the journalistic practices that are outside of Western
media domains with issues of global importance becoming more salient than ever. These ideas have been
explored through the readings as both papers describe certain characteristics of both political and media
systems and ownership practices of news organizations to gain insight into the implications of global
journalism. Whilst Hellman and Reigert focus on conceptualizing the transnational news sphere,
Chakravartty and Roy present a comparative approach to exploring diversity in journalism through
examining the intranational divergences within the Indian political and media system (Chakravartty and
Roy 2013, p.357).
Hellman and Reigert express global journalism as a reporting style that sought to unite people through
identifications that permeate national boundaries, through common human rights or interests , hence their
focus on global crisis journalism (Hellman and Reigert 2012, p.163). Through exploring the nature of
global crisis journalism, Hellman and Reigert question whether there is a responsibility for journalists to
promote what it means to be a citizen of the world through providing equal coverage of crisis that are
within areas that are considered remote by Western standards. This challenges current practices within
national/local journalism, in

38 Who Saw Hollander Analysis
Are there any acceptable reasons for letting someone die in front of your eyes? In the article The Murder
They Heard written by Stanley Milgram and Paul Hollander and first appearing in The Nation, Milgram
and Hollander explored the reasons for the neighbors failure to help, their lack of civic sense and their
actions toward Catherine Genovese s murder, in part, they are responding to the hype created around
Martin Gansberg s 38 Who Saw Murder Didn t Call the Police. Milgram and Hollander argued that the
witnesses were not at fault in that murder and instead, they blamed the city life, society norms, law, and
the situational pressure. Even though Milgram and Hollander stated some acceptable reasons to think that
the witnesses were not guilty, I still find the witnesses responsible for the loss of Genovese s life.

okay for them to not call the police for help. They presented some of the reasons like the city life, society

they talked about the personal relationships that are inferior in the city. People in the city keep distance
between themselves because they want to be free (902). This was considered a big reason for the
witnesses to not call the police or help her as they didn t know Genovese or wasn t close to her.
Moreover, Milgram and Hollander presented society rules as an another explanation for the witnesses to

Ted Green And Youtube Analysis
A smoky bar,a large concert hall or an open air festival are just a few of the places where one imagines
jazz to be performed. Bluesy, soulful, or very traditional, jazz comes in many guises due to the players
drawing from many influences. As music is a form of expression, it also seems reasonable to hypothesise
that life experiences will also colour their musical development. Imagine now a jazz artist has just
divorced is wife, how would this effect his compositions at that moment in time? It would be reasonable
to assume that this artist would compose a piece of music that would personify his feelings. Some of
these musicians went on to break the boundaries of their time and influenced their peers and others who
came after them. Whatever ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This information was gathered from their biographies. Ted Green started playing guitar at a the age of
eleven, Rieff (2013) states that Ted Greene s first guitar was a horrible guitar with the highest action in
the world, especially down at the nut. Disillusioned with this guitar it was Ted Greene s passion for
music that gave him the determination to continue and attended jazz guitar lessons. Similarly, George
Benson also became interested in music at a young age. At eight years old he was performing, though not
as a guitarist, but as a singer. He did not start concentrating on the guitar until he was in his mid to late
teens and was performing in a rock band at the age of seventeen. It was at the age of nineteen that George
became interested in jazz. From this it can be seen that there is a similarity, both guitarists had a passion
for music at an early stage of their life. It seems reasonable to suggest that the major difference between
them is Ted started learning jazz guitar at a younger age and was more interested in expanding his
knowledge, whereas George Benson seemed more interested in performing. In the next section this paper

A Study Of Bitopological Spaces
Abstract. In 1995, A.A. Nasef and T. Noiri [6] introduced the notion of strongly
 irresolute functions. In the present paper, we generalize this notion to the setting of bitopological
spaces and obtain some characterizations and properties of pairwise strongly semi preirresolute
functions.
AMS Mathematics Subject Classifications (2010): 54E55, 54A05, 54C10, 54D05.
Key words and phrases: semi preopen, (i, j) semi preopen, semi preirresolute, pairwise strongly semi
preirresolute.
1. Introduction and preliminaries
The study of bitopological spaces was initiated by Kelly [4] in 1963. Abd ElMonsef et al. [1] introduced
the notion of
 open sets and
 continuity in topological spaces. On the other hand, Andrijevic [2] called
 open sets semipreopen and obtained many properties of such subsets. Recently, Khedr et al. [5] have
investigated the notions of semi preopen sets and semi precontinuity in bitopological spaces. In 1995,
Nasef and Noiri [6] defined and studied the concept of strongly
 irresolute functions. The purpose of the present paper is to extend the concept of strongly 
irresoluteness to the setting of bitopological spaces.
Throughout the present paper, (X, 1, 2) and (Y, 1, 2) always mean bitopological spaces. For a subset
A of a space X, i c1(A) (resp. i int(A)) denotes the closure (resp. interior) of A with respect to i
, for i = 1,2. However, i c1(A) and
i int(A) are briefly denoted by c1i(A) and inti(A), respectively, if there is no possibility of

East-West Schism Vs. Eastern Orthodox Christianity
For the first one thousand years of their existence, these churches were the same institution. The split
between the Western and Eastern Christian churches into the Roman Catholic and Eastern Orthodox
churches is referred to as the Great Schism or, more definitively, the East West Schism , which occurred
in 1054. This occurred due to long running cultural and theological differences, power struggles, and lack
of communication. Prominently they argued over what type bread (leavened vs. unleavened) to use to
represent the body of Christ in the Eucharist. Each side had developed different traditions. But how
different are they really? They have so much in common, what exactly do they believe that made them
diverge?
Both the Roman Catholics and the Orthodox Christians agree on which scriptures are the recognized
gospels, on the same seven sacraments/mysteries. They share similar beliefs of who Mary was and see
her as their greatest saint.
Despite the fact that both are branches of Christianity as a whole, Eastern Orthodox Christianity and
Roman Catholicism seem to have poor opinions of each other. They share many core beliefs regarding

The Importance Of Human Relationship In Fahrenheit 451
The Importance of Human Relationship As humans, there are many aspects that separate and distinguish
us from other animals. However, I believe the most valuable distinction is our ability to create
meaningful relationships. Whether these relationships are friendships, marriages or any other union of
two people, this connection is the basis of our humanity. Through relationships were able to share
knowledge, discuss ideas, and better ourselves through the enlightenment of others. Moreover, the basis
of a relationships lies on the principle that it is a shared give and take between two people. Yet, what
happens in a society that has slowly eradicated a person s ability to question their surroundings and
communication has been dumbed down to surface level discussions? Ultimately the basis of a
relationship is undermined, since there is no true human connection. The ramifications of this ignorant
lifestyle is articulated in Ray Bradbury s Fahrenheit 451. The primary relationships in this novel is
between Montag and his wife Mildred. Throughout the story, we see Montag change his perception of the
world he lives in and his purpose as a fireman. With this newfound realization, Montag tries to introduce
Millie to books and the pursuit of knowledge. The novel explores how an individual s shift in perception
impacts the other person in the relationship. It questions the fundamental idea of how relationships
function. Simply because one person conception of the truth has

Positive And Negative Effects Of Single Parent Families
The number children being raised in single parent households is continuously growing. There are
positive and negative effects for children that grow up in this type of a household. Children who only live
with one parent tend to have better financial and educational advantages. Single parent homes can impact
several aspects of a child s life. Children see their parent as being very independent, and often they learn
to be independent too. The parent raising the child has the biggest effect on the child. How the child is
raised can affect many different outcomes of the child s life (Kunz, 2015, April 15). One big effect single
parent households have is that one parent is absent. This can cause a child to perform poorly in school.
Generally, single parent households are run by the mother and the father is absent. Often times when the
parent is only receiving one income, they work more often. This can cause the child to receive less
attention and have less help with their homework. The effect that the other parent, not living in the house,
has on the child is huge. It is proven that children tend to do better in school and in life in general when
both parents are involved in their life. Only having one income in the household makes it at risk for
poverty. When children live in poverty it can have many emotional effects on them. Some children feel
abandonment, loneliness, sadness, and troubles with socializing or connecting with others. Children also
feel the emotions of low

Greek Wine History
Wine continues to be a staple in society, displayed in its prominent impact on culture and religion. It has
paved the way for growth in both politics and philosophy; its involvement in trade allowed the spread of
Greek ideas to reach many civilizations. Wine s effect throughout human history is undeniable as it
connected people from all over the world through trade and commerce. While it s true origins are lost
and only recorded in myth and legend , it is believed that its first production was in the Neolithic period,
between 9000 and 4000 BC (Standage 47). Wild grape vine, cereal crops, and the invention of pottery
lead to wine production in areas of modern day Armenia and northern Iran. Reddish residue found inside
a jar from a Neolithic village in the Zagros Mountains is the earliest physical evidence for wine (47).

remained only to the elite. Wine was not listed in ration tables for lower class members. The masses in
both Egypt and eastern Mediterranean areas were still drinking beer, which made access to wine a mark
of status (48). Wine became a symbol of status. As it began to gain popularity throughout the Near East
and the eastern Mediterranean, wine was viewed as both a social and religion drink (49). Wine

Competition heated up as department stores, particularly J.C. Penny Corporation, Inc. and specialty
apparel stores improved their performances. According to the article of Funding Universe, Kohl s was
faced with fierce competition in California from stores such as, Mervyns and Macy West. Some analysts
contended the big push into the Golden State had distracted management, and indeed the company
suffered from excess inventory, forcing it to discount heavily, which dented profits. Some shoppers
turned to rival retailers when they encountered less well kept stores and longer checkout lines than usual.
Which the numbers were disappointing, while revenues were still up 12.7 percent, surpassing the ten

  • 2. Theme Of Social Class In Pride And Prejudice Most living creatures abide by a social structure of some sort. Between groups of animals there is the dominance of the Alpha, and the submission of the Omega. Among humans, there is a similar setup, but rather than size and strength, other factors often come into play. Wealth and status with others make for a bigger social ladder among human beings, and this can cause many weaknesses in the way people treat one another, and think. There are some who embrace these problems, and some who wish to change it. Sometimes, it is something as simple as a piece of writing that addresses these issues. In her novel Pride and Prejudice, Jane Austen uses her characters to break common social class structure, and reveal that it is actions that define a person, and not circumstance. In Pride and Prejudice, many of the characters reveal a depth that reaches beyond what is perceived by even other characters, already revealing the kinks in social class. The main male protagonist, Mr. Fitzwilliam Darcy is one of the most controversial characters, and from the very beginning has two sides to him that show a person underneath the circumstantial shell. In the article Themes and Construction: Pride and Prejudice it is noted that What separates Elizabeth and Darcy from the silly minor characters [...] is their ability and willingness to learn and grow, to overcome their initial shortcomings (Themes). • 3. The Golden Age In The Elizabethan Era The Elizabethan era was a time full of superstition and persecution, however it was also the beginning of a new age, The Golden Age as it is commonly referred to. During this time the people of England were beginning to progress, in a scientific and artistic way. Music wasn t the only thing that was developing, science and philosophy were also flourishing. There was a reason that music began to become an everyday part of life under Queen Elizabeth s rule. The queen herself even had a musical background and it was well known that music was her favorite art form. She also took a great interest in supporting experienced musicians and composers. From Elizabeth s interest in the arts, her people went from generational family songs to reformed masterpieces from great men, such as William Byrd, Thomas Morley, and Thomas Weelkes. The society and culture that Queen Elizabeth helped create differentiates from many cultures we have learned about in class. In other cultures, such as China, someone who has career in the arts is typically seen as a lower social class citizen, whereas in England the making of an educated and upper class man must be fluent in musical theory. We can tell by an excerpt from The Compleat Gentleman written by Henry Peacham in 1622, that the basic role of a gentleman was to sing your part sure, and at first sight, withall, to play the same upon your viol, or exercise of the lute. During this time there was a wide variety of instruments used and some are ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 6. What Is The Theme Of The Golden Lily By Gold Sartin The devious plot line jumped back and forth in time as to portray the tumultuous era of Malaysia s independence after World War Two. In the novel, different factions vied for control of this newly independent country including communist insurgents, British settlers, Malaysian and the Chinese ethnicities. The communists wanted to establish a communist regime while the Chinese folks wanted to preserve their economic gains. The power struggle happens under the eyes of two former imperialist occupying forces: the Japanese and British. Was he really stripped from his position as the Emperor s private gardener or was he given a special mission to ensure the success of the mysterious Golden Lily s plan? The question is left up to the readers to decide. In the novel the author only provides the facts through different characters action such as Tatsuji s research on the Golden Lily plan. Was the tattoo on Yun Ling a map of the concentration s camp? Metaphorically it may also represent the mark of the past and the tumultuous Japanese occupation. Is his disappearance a sign of revolt in the face of Japanese atrocities or an attempt to destroy the traces of Japanese atrocities perpetuated in the name of the emperor? Like a boulder, the reader can only see the visible surface of his personality. Yun Ling mentions: he turned to me, touching the side of his head lightly. At that moment it struck me that he was similar to the boulders on which we had spent the entire morning working. Only a small portion was revealed to the world; the rest was buried deep within, hidden from view. He is the picture of an ideal spy: he is one of the main characters in the novel but we don t see his true personality; he remains a shadow like those in Plato s cave. Is it a sign of denying the visible collective guilt? • 21. The American Of A Blind Old Woman Overall, the American themes in this speech are undeniable. For one thing, Morrison s most important character, a blind old woman, is stated outright to be American. Not only that, she is the widely respected child of slaves, so she is very deeply tied into both the good and bad of America s past (Morrison). She also alludes numerous times to American history and culture, especially in the conclusion of her speech, which comes in the form of a rapid succession of powerful images. The last of these is of a wagonload of slaves three years before the Civil War, whose lives are saved from a frigid winter (however momentarily) by the kindness of two youths (Morrison). Not only is this clearly tied into American history, it also contains the distinctly American values of hope in the face of death, like the colonists had against the crushing odds of the Revolutionary War, and unity in spire of differences after all, the children are most likely white considering they had just exited an inn the slaves wouldn t have been allowed into that would eventually lead to the passage of every Civil Rights law in the nation s history (Morrison). Morrison uses an allegory to the Tower of Babel, saying that if the builders of the Tower had simply learned to communicate with one another, they would not have had to seek heaven because they would have already reached it (Morrison). AMS Mathematics Subject Classifications (2010): 54E55, 54A05, 54C10, 54D05. Key words and phrases: semi preopen, (i, j) semi preopen, semi preirresolute, pairwise strongly semi preirresolute. 1. Introduction and preliminaries The study of bitopological spaces was initiated by Kelly [4] in 1963. Abd ElMonsef et al. [1] introduced the notion of  open sets and  continuity in topological spaces. On the other hand, Andrijevic [2] called  open sets semipreopen and obtained many properties of such subsets. Recently, Khedr et al. [5] have investigated the notions of semi preopen sets and semi precontinuity in bitopological spaces. In 1995, Nasef and Noiri [6] defined and studied the concept of strongly  irresolute functions. The purpose of the present paper is to extend the concept of strongly  irresoluteness to the setting of bitopological spaces. Throughout the present paper, (X, 1, 2) and (Y, 1, 2) always mean bitopological spaces. For a subset A of a space X, i c1(A) (resp. i int(A)) denotes the closure (resp. interior) of A with respect to i , for i = 1,2. However, i c1(A) and i int(A) are briefly denoted by c1i(A) and inti(A), respectively, if there is no possibility of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 30. East-West Schism Vs. Eastern Orthodox Christianity For the first one thousand years of their existence, these churches were the same institution. The split between the Western and Eastern Christian churches into the Roman Catholic and Eastern Orthodox churches is referred to as the Great Schism or, more definitively, the East West Schism , which occurred in 1054. This occurred due to long running cultural and theological differences, power struggles, and lack of communication. Prominently they argued over what type bread (leavened vs. unleavened) to use to represent the body of Christ in the Eucharist. Each side had developed different traditions. But how different are they really? They have so much in common, what exactly do they believe that made them diverge? Both the Roman Catholics and the Orthodox Christians agree on which scriptures are the recognized gospels, on the same seven sacraments/mysteries. They share similar beliefs of who Mary was and see her as their greatest saint. Despite the fact that both are branches of Christianity as a whole, Eastern Orthodox Christianity and Roman Catholicism seem to have poor opinions of each other. They share many core beliefs regarding Jesus ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As far as confessing sins, the Orthodox are similar in the regard they confess their sins in intercession with the clergy and they will be absolved of them. The Eastern Orthodox believes that the Virgin Mary was capable of sin, but resisted it her whole life. For if she was created without sin, then this would mean she wasn t human. They don t accept she was born with sin, because they don t believe in original sin, as previously stated. The Catholic Church believes she was conceived and born without it. They reject the idea of the Immaculate Conception as well, while the Catholic Church declared it as a dogma (principles laid down as incontrovertible ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 31. The Importance Of Human Relationship In Fahrenheit 451 The Importance of Human Relationship As humans, there are many aspects that separate and distinguish us from other animals. However, I believe the most valuable distinction is our ability to create meaningful relationships. Whether these relationships are friendships, marriages or any other union of two people, this connection is the basis of our humanity. Through relationships were able to share knowledge, discuss ideas, and better ourselves through the enlightenment of others. Moreover, the basis of a relationships lies on the principle that it is a shared give and take between two people. Yet, what happens in a society that has slowly eradicated a person s ability to question their surroundings and communication has been dumbed down to surface level discussions? Ultimately the basis of a relationship is undermined, since there is no true human connection. The ramifications of this ignorant lifestyle is articulated in Ray Bradbury s Fahrenheit 451. The primary relationships in this novel is between Montag and his wife Mildred. Throughout the story, we see Montag change his perception of the world he lives in and his purpose as a fireman. With this newfound realization, Montag tries to introduce Millie to books and the pursuit of knowledge. The novel explores how an individual s shift in perception impacts the other person in the relationship. It questions the fundamental idea of how relationships function. Simply because one person conception of the truth has ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 32. Positive And Negative Effects Of Single Parent Families The number children being raised in single parent households is continuously growing. There are positive and negative effects for children that grow up in this type of a household. Children who only live with one parent tend to have better financial and educational advantages. Single parent homes can impact several aspects of a child s life. Children see their parent as being very independent, and often they learn to be independent too. The parent raising the child has the biggest effect on the child. How the child is raised can affect many different outcomes of the child s life (Kunz, 2015, April 15). One big effect single parent households have is that one parent is absent. This can cause a child to perform poorly in school. Generally, single parent households are run by the mother and the father is absent. Often times when the parent is only receiving one income, they work more often. This can cause the child to receive less attention and have less help with their homework. The effect that the other parent, not living in the house, has on the child is huge. It is proven that children tend to do better in school and in life in general when both parents are involved in their life. Only having one income in the household makes it at risk for poverty. When children live in poverty it can have many emotional effects on them. Some children feel abandonment, loneliness, sadness, and troubles with socializing or connecting with others. Children also feel the emotions of low ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
