Contribution Of Accountancy On Sustainable Development

Majoritarian And Effective American Voting System
Voting systems are the set of procedures that determine who will run our local, state, and federal
governments. These procedures include how the ballot is structured, how the vote is casted, how the
votes are counted, and how the winners are selected. Although there are a variety of ways a voting
system can be structured to enable citizen authorization of authority there are two dominant voting
systems in Western democracies: plurality system and proportional representation. Douglas J. Amy in
(2000) and G. Bingham Powell in (2000) present a list of criteria that can be used to determine which
voting system is preferential. In this paper I will consider Accountability, High Quality Campaigns,
and Stable and Effective Government as the criteria for evaluating voting systems, and evaluate the
degree to which majoritarian and proportional representation systems fulfill these criteria. In the
majoritarian vision of citizen control, concentrated power is necessary. Majoritarian elections act as ...

In a majoritarian system, voters are able to easily identify which representative they should be holding
accountable when unacceptable actions are being taken. This is possible because the majoritarian
system uses single member districts in which members of the legislature are elected one at a time in
small districts (Amy 29). It also important to note that candidates are elected based on who receives
the most votes. This means that it is easy for constituents to not only identify which representative was
elected to serve them but to hold them accountable as well. The same can be said about political
parties, because of the two party system it is very likely that one party will win the majority of the
seats in the legislature, which means that voters will know who to blame for unacceptable actions

Analysis Of Ruta Sepetys Between Shades Of Gray
Have you ever wondered what a human life was worth? That morning, my brother s was worth a
pocket watch (Sepetys). At this point, the NKVD are trying to separate families, but the Vilkas stay
strong and do not let the NKVD push them around. They keep the hope that they will be fine. Before
that, the NKVD gathered up all the Lithuanians who were on the list and put them on a bus to some
sort of station and from there they traveled to labor camps and then again they took a few from the
labor camp and put them on buses and took them too a new location where they were basically sent to
die. This all occurred during the time of World War two. Wrhn Stalin and Hitler were fighting for land.
The novel of discussion is Between Shades of Gray by Ruta Sepetys. It is about Lina Vilka and her
family as they travel from labor camp to labor camp, and experience terrible abuse and treacherous
conditions. In the process of it Lina manages to fall in love with a boy named Andrius. Sadly after
they realize they like one another they are moved to another camp. The worst part of the whole book is
the deaths it describes. The death of Lina s parents, other Lithuanians at the camps, Ona, and Ona s
baby. It is a;; just horrible. How can one even think of such horrible things to do to innocent people. In
the song Titanium it shows great similarities to Between Shades of Gray. Although Between Shades of
Gray and Titanium are different in many ways, they both show signs of abuse, strength,

James Walker Funeral
About three months later on December 2, 1866 they were married at Croydon,Utah by Bishop James
Walker. A dinner party was given in their honor by Charles and Harriet Shill. This was a happy event
on their wedding day. Robert and his wife Miriam continued living with Edward on the farm. It was
about this time in early winter that Edward wanted to build a new log house. The logs had been hauled
from the canyon by ox team in early fall. Robert was a good workman and was anxious to help get the
house built and the work began. It was one large room with door and windows and was joined on to
the other house. Each house faced south so that from the outside it looked like one long log house

Teenage Pregnancy Rates And The United States
Even though teenage pregnancy rates have decreased in the U.S. in recent years, the rates are far
behind European countries. Studies have shown that U.S. teenagers have (a) high rates of sexual
intercourse at a younger age, (b) high rates of sex without contraceptives, (c) high rates of pregnancy,
(d) and high number of multiple sex partners in comparison to European countries like Sweden,
France, Netherland (Bell, 2009).
One of the main reasons for high rates of teenage pregnancy in the U.S. is the continuation of
ineffective abstinence based education (Bell, 2009) and not allowing teenagers to make abortion
related decisions. In the U.S. Eighty two percent of the teenage pregnancy is unintended and 37 % of
total unintended pregnancies result in abortion. Teenagers choose to abort babies because of shame,
staying focused on career, unstable financial status to support babies and not getting emotional and
economic support from parents. Twenty two percent of pregnant teenagers choose not to tell their
parents (ACLU, 2001).
Teen Pregnancy Prevention Intervention (TPPI) was initiated with the objective of reaching teenagers
to create awareness and help them make safe sex choices and prevent pregnancy through
comprehensive sex education. However, the policy of after school program has hindered in providing
effectiveness of sex education because most of the minority students are not able to participate since
they have to go to work and help their parents to support their family.

Essay about Media Influence Upon Modern Society
The Mass Media is a unique feature of modern society; its development has accompanied an increase
in the magnitude and complexity of societal actions and engagements, rapid social change,
technological innovation, rising personal income and standard of living and the decline of some
traditional forms of control and authority.
There is an association between the development of mass media and social change, although the
degree and direction of this association is still debated upon even after years of study into media
influence. Many of the consequences, either detrimental or beneficial, which have been attributed to
the mass media, are almost undoubtedly due to other tendencies within society. Few sociologists
would refute the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is regarded as one of the first in the area of or notion that the mass media has an affect on the
societal attitudes and beliefs of that time.
This was soon follow around about a decade later in 1941 by Katz, Berelson, and Lazarsfeld who also
decided to research into the topic of media effects, a research which produced the now commonly
known Minimum Effects Model . The main aspect of this research being to investigate any possible
link or factor that may influence voting behaviour. As has been described in numerous literature it s
discovery was that the mass media played little or no part in the process of the formation of any
political opinion, attitude or preference.
They came to the conclusion that the biggest factor influencing people was not the media, but other
people. By the 1960 s, there was a revival of Marxist attitudes, and so the work of Katz, Lazarsfeld,
and Berelson was largely dismissed in favour of re examining the model of research into media
effects, due to the modifications the mass media had undergone in the post 1941 period, to consider
another way in which to investigate the influence and the effects of the media.
Influence, society and individuals
As Jane Root wrote in the book Open The Box , which delves into the possibilities of media influence,
It has a role in defining what we think of as

Stalin vs. Trotsky Essay
Stalin vs. Trotsky
I. Dzhugashvili and Bronstein
Joseph Stalin, born Dzhugashvili, and Leon Trotsky, born Bronstein, were the same age, and both had
been from early youth members of the Russian Social Democratic party. As dedicated Communists,
they had common basic outlook: they were philosophical materialists, committed to the unity of
theory and practice and bent upon spreading Communism throughout the whole world. While Lenin
was alive (at any rate until 1922) both men had a secure place in his favor and therefore in the party as
a whole. Since 1917, at least, Trotsky had supported Lenin on the main issues and seemed to have
more of his candor and flexibility than Stalin. However, as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Young Joseph joined a Marxist society known as Mesame Dasi while a student at the seminary, but it
is not clear whether this had anything to do with his expulsion in 1899. During the next two years his
Marxism crystallized, and his first Marxist essays appeared in a Georgian newspaper in 1901. At that
time he was already an enthusiastic defender of Lenin and the other orthodox Marxist exiles who
published the newspaper Iskra. His literary style was not then distinguished; in fact, it never got much
better.
Stalin was active in the revolutionary movement in Tiflis, Batum, and elsewhere, not as Dzhugashvili,
nor yet Stalin, but as Koba. This meant something like courageous in Turkish, and it was also the
name of a labeled Georgian freebooter. It is uncertain which the nickname first signified. Later he was
called, indeed, practically dubbed himself, the Lenin of the Cauccasus. However, he was not
necessarily the most outstanding leader of the Caucasian Social Democrats, nor even of the Georgian
Bolsheviks after the party split in 1903. The great majority of the Marxists in Georgia became and
stayed Menshevik. Among the Bolsheviks Stalin was prominent, but that did not mean a great deal.
Very soon after the news of the London Congress of 1903 reached the Caucasus, he took a firmly pro
Bolshevik stand, and he continued to

Reaction Paper On Lupus
Systemic lupus erythematosus (more commonly known as lupus) is an autoimmune disease that
affects more women than men, usually between ages 15 to 45. The cause is often unknown, although
in some individuals, the condition may be drug induced. The symptoms may differ from patient to
patient, but commonly include a butterfly rash on the face, ulcerations on the mouth, nose, and vagina,
loss of hair, thick scarring, changes in skin pigmentation, hives, welts, and color changes in the
fingertips as a response to changes in temperature and stress (Raynaud s phenomena). As the disease
progresses, it begins to involve other systems of the body such as the kidneys, heart, lungs and joints.
Symptoms include severe fatigue, fever, dyspnea, swollen glands, ... Show more content on

Lupus is often associated with weight gain due to inactivity and medications, so it is important to eat
wisely to achieve a healthy weight. On the other hand, some people experience poor appetite and
weight loss, which can result from the illness or from medications. Consult your doctor, nurse or
registered dietitian who can help evaluate your diet and suggest a suitable program to help you
manage your weight. People who are battling lupus have higher risk of complications such as heart
disease, so it is important to consume a heart healthy as part of your treatment plan. Your doctor may
find you have certain risk factors for heart disease such as high cholesterol or high blood pressure. You
may be advised to take a low fat diet and do exercises regularly. Your doctor may also recommend a
low sodium diet to reduce high blood pressure. Studies show that omega 3 fatty acids from fish oils or
fish may improve risk factors for heart disease such as high blood pressure and high triglycerides.
Foods that are rich in omega 3 fatty acids include: sardines

Winton s choice of words throughout the story could make the audience feel the amount of guilt that
the man in the story was feeling. He could build suspense by having the start of the theme as him
watching a news clip on the tv and then leaving to go back to the place where he grew up. As he got
there the theme started to be enforced more; the man started to have memories as he was there and
then he started to remember what happened on the day that Alan Mannering drowned. He remembered
how he didn t feel guilty at first but he also didn t feel happy, he had no emotion about it. As he saw
Alan falling off the car roof and into the swamp, he didn t go to help he just simply stood there. Over
the next days the feeling of guilt started to become stronger within him. He was at the South
Australian border over Christmas, he was standing in front of a blowhole. As he was standing in front
of it, he started to feel queasy as he started to think of things that sucked in, sucking water beneath the
crust of the wide brown land. When he was back at home he thought of him silent, fair, awful, encased
in the black cake mix of sediment down there. . That is how Winton described what the man was
feeling. This made the reader feel his guilt, the singular words at the start and then a metaphor
expressed his guilt. The theme of guilt is the main theme of the story but there are some parts of the

The Causes And Impacts Of The Natural Disaster In China
The first natural disaster recorded in China was in 1556. It was an earthquake that killed 830,000
people ( Deadliest Earthquake in History Rocks China. ). The most recent natural disaster in China
was an earthquake on September 30th, 2017(earthquake.usgs.gov). 451 years later, and China is still
getting natural disasters that are killing thousands of people. The buildings are being rebuilt, people
are picking up and moving on, but the disasters keep coming back, sometimes causing more damage
than before. The government just rebuilds the same way, no changes in the structures, just as weak as
they were before. When disaster strikes again, the same buildings fall over and over. According to
Corey Flintoff, in an article in which he makes a valid point, China can t control the disasters that
come their way, but they can try to adapt and prepare for the next one. In the beginning of his article,
Flintoff makes the argument that China knows about these natural disasters. They understand that they
are located in an area that is prone to natural disasters, yet when rebuilding, they don t attempt to make
these structures more stable and resistant to disasters, such as floods and earthquakes. According to
World UN News Centre, We know that prevention is better than the cure...Yet too often, there is a
tendency to defer action until after disasters occur. China s government doesn t have a big role in
dealing with natural hazards, but they should. They have a big military that

The Rise of Gladiatorial Combat in Rome
The Rise of Gladiatorial Combat in Rome
Gladiatorial contests (munera gladitoria), hold a central place in our perception of Roman behavior.
They were also a big influence on how Romans themselves ordered their lives. Attending the games
was one of the practices that went with being a Roman. The Etruscans who introduced this type of
contest in the sixth century BC, are credited with its development but its the
Romans who made it famous. A surviving feature of the Roman games was when a gladiator fell he
was hauled out of the arena by a slave dressed as the Etruscan death demon Charun. The slave would
carry a hammer which was the demon s attribute. Moreover, the Latin term for a trainer manager of

At other times they were thrown to the wild beasts. Criminals that were used had committed crimes
that carried a death sentence or harsh manual labor. The crimes which led to the arena were murder,
treason, robbery and arson.
Criminals sentenced to forced labor were often obliged to serve as gladiators, and were sentenced to
three years of combat and two years in the schools.
Sometimes penalties were differentiated according to social class, thus for certain crimes which in the
case of slaves would involve execution, free men or freedmen (ex slaves) were condemned to fight in
the arena instead. This did not of course make them gladiators, unless they were trained first, as those
required to provide this sort of sport not always were. And indeed as gladiators became more
expensive in the second century AD the use of untrained criminals in the amphitheater increased.
(7:537) Most gladiators, at Rome and elsewhere were slaves, but in addition there were always some
free men who became gladiators because they wanted to. The profession was an alternative to being a
social outcast. They were generally derived from the lowest ranking category of free persons, namely
the freedman who had themselves been slaves or were the son of slaves. Free fighters were more
sought after than slaves, presumably because they shower greater enthusiasm in the arena. Such a

Sexual Education And Sex Education
The purpose of this paper is to explain the importance of sexual education and describe differences
and similarities in some of the research done on this topic. Having sexual education available to youth
is the key in reducing the number of unwanted situations in the sexual health of the individuals.
Teaching adolescents about sex is beneficial because they become aware of consequence that might
follow specific actions. This is a chance to ensure adolescents take safer routes when deciding to
become sexually active. Youth sexual education has been correlated with preventing unplanned
pregnancy and sexually transmitted infections (STIs). Many schools have sexual education programs
but many teenage pregnancies that are unplanned and STIs are occurring. One reason could be
because very few of these sexual education programs are attending to the traditional social norms
around sexuality and gender. It is important to consider and focus on the traditional social norms
because findings in previous studies have found those that hold traditional social beliefs around
gender and sexuality, are at greater risks of negative sexual health consequences. Adolescents should
be given the opportunity to receive the proper sexual education in order to eliminate negative sexual
health consequences. Researchers have found that individuals in sexual education programs that
address traditional social norms and the effects of these beliefs, are less likely to agree with
hegemonic masculinity

Essay about Buck versus Bell
Buck versus Bell
During the early twentieth century, the United States was enduring significant social and economic
changes due to its transformation into a commercial and industrial world power. As the need for labor
escalated within many urban areas, millions of Europeans emigrated from Southern and Eastern
Europe with the hopes of capitalizing upon these employment opportunities and attaining a better life.
Simultaneously, many African Americans migrated from the rural South into major cities, bearing the
same intentions as those of the European immigrants. The presence of these minority groups generated
both racial and class fears within white middle and upper class Americans. The fervent ethnocentrism
resulting from these fears, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In contrast to the negative eugenics position of the state of Virginia, involuntary sterilization laws
emphasizing breeding restrictions for society s unfit neither benefit the welfare of the individual nor
that of society for several moral and legal reasons. The legal validity of these involuntary sterilization
laws would be challenged within the Supreme Court case of Buck v. Bell. In September of 1924, at the
age of eighteen, Carrie Buck, an illegitimate daughter of an allegedly feebleminded woman, was
admitted to the Virginia s State Colony for Epileptics and the Feebleminded. Six months earlier, the
Virginia State Legislature decisively passed their involuntary sterilization bill authorizing the
Superintendents of five state institutions to petition for the permission to sterilize inmates. Buck, who
had a mental age of nine and an I.Q. of about fifty, had already given birth to an illegitimate child
herself, who was allegedly feebleminded as well. At the time, the Superintendent of the State Colony,
Dr. A. S. Priddy, petitioned for permission to sterilize this woman for fear that Buck would have more
mentally defective children. The statute had provided that each Superintendent needed to receive
permission from a special Board of Directors of that institution, who would hear the grounds for
sterilization and determine whether or not to follow through on the operation. Priddy faced immense
pressure from state officials to petition for sterilization, as

Escalation Of Conflict
The escalation of conflict is not the only problem the increased number of private military contractors
bring. These contractors have a different object and priority than the stationed troops in conflicts. The
contractor s number one priority is protecting their asset, as the private corporations know that if the
important figure they are assigned to protect gets captured or killed, it would be devastating for the
business and most likely they would lose the funding the government provides. Since the priority of
the contractors is to keep the asset safe, they will often be very aggressive, securing perimeters and
stopping any vehicles that get too close. There has been many cases where the private contractors

opening fire. However, this kind of behavior is not limited the Blackwater, as in 2005 a trophy video

Scottish contractors shooting randomly at Iraqi civilians. Not only does this showcase the complete

How Technology Has Changed Modern Society
Today as individuals we have many privileges, rights, and freedoms that have not existed in the past.
In modern society, many things are handed to us where as in the traditional society people had to work
very hard and face many hurdles in order to do everyday tasks. The technology has changed
drastically from back then to now present year s new technology and devices are constantly being
created to make our lives easier. However in the traditional society people had only a few options of
ways to communicate with each other. Modern culture seems to be influenced a lot by social media
and whatever the new current trend is. Whereas traditional culture is more conservative followed by
morals and religious practices. Prices of housing living and food have all increased fairly in our
modern day society. Decades ago people did not have many expenses to account, for now, we have
daycares all kinds of insurance payments and tuition to try to afford. When you compare modern day
society with the way traditional society was you can see some major differences.
Technology has been around for many years and throughout those years it s advancing. Both modern
and traditional technology is viewed in different but our similar is some ways.Technology is the use of
tools and machine to get the job done. Modern technology is just an advanced version of the
traditional technology. For instance, the gadgets we use today like a smartphone is just an advanced
version of the mobile phone that

animals. In 1904 they built Kansas City s first fountain near the west end of the intercity viaduct, 3rd
and Minnesota. It has a large square pedestal with 4 small pools for dogs to drink from at street level
and a 4 diameter granite basin at a height for horses to drink. The water came out of spigots in lions
mouths into this taller bowl so people could get clean water in their cups. The overflow went into the
street level basins for the dogs. There was a street light on top. It was moved to 18th Parallel and
finally in 1967 given to the Wyandotte

Synthesis And Secretion And Dendritic Spine Morphology
Calcium controls many neuronal functions, such as neurotransmitter synthesis and secretion and
dendritic spine morphology. The role of CaMKKβ is probably best characterised in the brain.
CaMKKβ and CaMKKα are both highly expressed in the brain (Anderson et al. 1996), and have been
shown to be important in the formation of memory and neuronal plasticity (Wayman et al. 2008). In
addition, studies show the CaMK cascade is essential for axon and dendrite elongation in cortical
neurons (Ageta Ishihara et al. 2009; Davare et al. 2009), as well as synaptogenesis in hippocampal
neurons (Saneyoshi et al. 2008). The CaMK cascade is known to regulate cAMP response element
binding protein (CREB) dependent transcriptional activity in vivo, which is important for
hippocampal long term memory formation (Lonze and Ginty. 2002). Global CaMKKβ / mice
generated by Peters et al were found to have male specific impaired spatial memory formation
secondary to reduced spatial training induced CREB activation, as well as impaired long term memory
for the social transmission of food preferences secondary to the lack of late long term potentiation at
the hippocampal area CA1 synapses (Peters et al. 2003; Mizuno et al. 2007). No difference was found
in other types of hippocampus dependent long term memory, including contextual fear memory and
passive avoidance, compared to wild type mice suggesting that the formation of these long term
memory types do not require the activation of CREB by CaMKKβ.

Quiet Hero s
Crisis Intervention amp; Trauma Treatment
3:30pm 5:20pm
Quiet Hero: Secrets from my Father s Past, written by Rita Cosby, is a story of war, a story of courage,
and a story of a daughter finally getting to know her father. In this book, Rita speaks about her father s
childhood as well as her own; the difficulties she faced growing up with a strict father whom she felt
she barely knew. Rita grew up in Greenwich Connecticut, with her Danish mother and her Polish
father; a father she had a distant and unemotional relationship with. Growing up Rita knew very little
about her father. She only knew that he had left Poland after WWII. When Rita was about eight ...

This book touched me profoundly. I grew up without my father and met him when I was 20 years old.
Meeting him was very challenging for me because I was consumed with so much anger and I blamed
him for not being there for me. In reading this book I am able to realize that we do not always get to
choose the path we walk down and sometimes life s circumstances shape the people we become, for
better or worse. This book has made me want to give my own father a chance to explain to me what
his life has been like, so that I might have a better understanding of who he is. As I continue my
journey through school, I am better able to assess individuals and situations and have a level of
empathy without being judgmental. As children we often feel like we know who our parents are but
there are so many unanswered questions and hidden lives that it makes it difficult for children to relate
to their parents. Each of our paths has impacted us in both negative or positive ways and being able to
understand that this affects the decisions that we make can make unpleasant situations a bit easier to
digest. Seeing how Rita felt closer to her father as an adult once she got to know him, makes me feel
like there is still hope for my father and I. If Rita s father would have received help for the trauma he
had gone through I believe he could have been a better father to Rita while she was growing up.
Untreated trauma can affect a family on so many

Roles of Gladiators in Roman Society
Gladiators were mostly unfree individuals either condemned criminals, prisoners of wars who had lost
their citizenship rights, although, some of them were volunteers who were mostly freedmen or very
low classes of freeborn men who chose to be a slave for monetary rewards or for the fame. Gladiators
were brought for the purpose of gladiatorial combat and would endure branding, chains, flogging or
death by the sword and subjected to a rigorous training, fed on a high energy diet, and given expert
medical attention. Gladiators were famously popular in ancient from for seven centuries, from the 3rd

They wore tunics, bronze helmets, round shields and a long sword. Another class was the

helmet with crest and long greaves over both legs to protect them since he carried only a small shield,
usually round. The attacking class was the Provocator was the most heavily armed and the only one
who wore a pectoral covering; the extent of the armour hindered the gladiator s ability to dodge

Battles generally took place on the Roman Forum, until the mid 1st century BC since there was no
permanent amphitheatre. In the imperial period, gladiatorial games were traditionally held twice a year
in December and March to mark the end of the year and beginning of spring. Gladiatorial combat
involved beast hunting where the Romans had passion for hunting. For fighting beast, Romans
preferred big and dangerous animals bears, bulls, elephants and lions from the far reaches of the
Roman Empire. Rarely did the animals survive these hunts though occasionally very few animals
survived these hunts and defeat the hunter. Many of wild animals would be slaughter in a day. Usually
criminals would battle the animals without weapons or armour and were

Case Study Of Senator Sanders
TAIWO OLADUNNI. The two potential reasons why Senator Sanders supports increasing top tax
rates is so as discourage greed which is broadly defined as extracting income at the expense of the rest
of the economy as opposed to real productive behavior. This plan would result in an all in tax rate of
over 65% on income between $500,000 and $2 million which would definitely push rates near the
revenue maximizing level. Mr. Sanders tends on counting on those high incomes to generate the high
receipts needed to fund his single payer health plan which is a problem. The other reason is that higher
tax rates on the highest earners can generate revenue to pay for new programs, and they can encourage
a more equal distribution of pretax income

Blink By Malcolm Gladwell Blink
Overview
In Malcolm Gladwell s novel Blink, the author conveys a message on the significance and power of
our snap judgements and split second decisions. He explains the influential strength of our
subconscious that controls our intuitions and perceptions that translates into our daily actions. These
daily actions occur via thorough thinking or through a simple technique Gladwell calls, thin slicing .
Specifically, this technique showcases how an individual can extract in depth details about a situation,
only given a snapshot of a given scenario. Gladwell explains, If he [researcher John Gottman]
analyzes an hour of a husband and wife talking, he can predict with 95 percent accuracy whether that
couple will still be married fifteen years later. If we watched a couple for fifteen minutes, his success
rate is around 90 percent. From this, Gladwell expands to educate his readers on how to exploit these
instincts in order to live our lives more efficiently. Or, in his words, to think without thinking .
However, Gladwell does outline the dangers of thin slicing when done inaccurately exemplified by
fatal police shootings conducted by officers who ve misjudged a situation such as Amanda Diallo s
case. Additionally, thin slicing can backlash when individuals are racist or prejudice. Overall,
Gladwell provides his readers with a wholesome perspective on thin slicing before stating his opinion
on the benefits and successes of utilizing our natural human intuitions to live more

Urinary Catheter-Associated Infection
Catheters are associated with urinary tract infections which are the most common healthcare
associated infections, which account for 30 40% of infections in the healthcare setting each year.
(Nazarko et al, 2008) CAUTI results in a patient having to stay in a hospital or nursing home like
setting for a long period of time, which can also result in increase of hospital costs (Plowman et al,
1999). Catheters can either be long term or short term, and there are many different types of catheters
such as: Foley, straight, coude tip. How CAUTIs occur is when bacteria is in the bladder and a few
ways this occurs is when the catheter is first inserted, by ascending the catheter tubing from the
drainage tubing and bag, and when the drainage bag is not emptied properly (Nazarko et al, 2008). ...

Catheters may be inserted when a patient is having a specific type of surgery, such as repair of hip
fracture (Johansson et al, 2002). The EPIC Project guidelines, recommend four interventions related to
reducing urinary catheter associated infection (Pratt et al, 2001): Assessing the need for
catheterization, selecting the catheter type, Aseptic catheter insertion, Catheter maintenance. Tsuchida
and colleagues (2008) found that the use of a pre connected closed system and daily cleansing of the
perineal area could reduce the incidence of CAUTIs by nearly 50%. Also following guidelines is
essential for preventing urinary tract infections some guidelines are; Perform hand hygiene before and
after all handling of the catheter, tubing, and drainage bag. Empty the drainage bag when it becomes
full or at least once every 8 hours to prevent migration of bacteria. Lastly, keep the drainage bag lower
than the level of the patient s bladder to prevent backflow of urine in the bladder; verify that the bag
does not rest on the floor (Caple,

Cirrhotic Essay
Abstract P.P.I therapy is often used in patients with cirrhosis, sometimes, in the absence of a specific
indication (e.g.: acid related diseases), there are conflicting reports for their use in cirrhotic patients.
The dosage of most PPIs should be reduced in cirrhotic as they are metabolized by the liver and
associated with adverse effects of prolonged use. We aimed to review strict indications and adverse
effects for their use in this group of patients. Keywords Proton pump inhibitors, liver cirrhosis, peptic
ulcer, H. pylori, esophageal band ligation. Abbreviations P.P.I: proton pump inhibitors. EVS:

A short course for 10 days post EVL may be reasonable if we concern for ulcer healing. However,
high dose infusion (e.g., pantoprazole 8 mg/h) and prolonged use in the absence of endoscopic
procedures is not supported by the literature and should be discouraged until evidence of benefit
becomes available. (8) GERD Functional studies showed decreased LES function with a low
amplitude of acid clearance and primary esophageal peristalsis in cirrhotics with large varices [9].
These phenomena could also be due to a mechanical effect of the varices. Cirrhotic patients without
EV have also esophageal motor disorders and mixed acid and bile reflux as the main pattern whereas
the cirrhosis itself was an important causative factor. It is unclear whether this might contribute to
bleeding from varices [8]. Data on management of GERD in cirrhosis are few, however, the
indications of use for PPIs may remain exactly the same also in patient with cirrhosis of the liver as
general population for the treatment of erosive esophagitis or in general the pathology secondary to
gastroesophageal reflux acid (10) Peptic ulcer and H. pylori infection Prevalence of duodenal and
gastric ulcers in patients with liver cirrhosis increases as the disease progress[11] and this prevalence
becomes higher in decompensated cirrhosis than in compensated cirrhosis [12]. Currently, PPIs are the
mainstay treatment option of peptic ulcers in the

Motivation Theory X And Theory
Motivation Theory X
Motivation Theory X
Foundation of today s organizations. These theories go back to the turn of the century and in some
cases are considered by the uninformed to be simply fads which come and go. As I have discovered,
these theories are rather the steps on a ladder which continually takes us higher and higher. Douglas
McGregor in his book, The Human Side of Enterprise published in 1960 has examined theories on
behavior of individuals at work, and he has formulated two models which he calls Theory X and
Theory Y. Theory X Assumptions The average human being has an inherent dislike of work and will

Collaborative self directed work teams can get complex projects done at faster rates than the
traditional boss worker arrangement, because the decision making process is made faster and more
effective in a team. Empowering teams to make decisions about their work also enhances satisfaction
and reduces turnover (Berger, 1998). Self directed work teams involve employees in a specific area, or
those who are working on a specific product or process. Self directed work teams can be any size, we
usually use 5 team members but normally run no more than 12 to 15 employees. The work team
makes the decisions that would normally be made by a supervisor or manager, and might interact with
the company s suppliers and customers, whether they are inside or outside the company.
In some companies, self directed work teams will also take over many of the human resource
functions as well (Cotton, 1993). Self directed work teams have also become one of the more
changing approaches to employee involvement, and has been increasing in popularity within the last
several years. Companies such as Proctor Gamble, Digital Equipment, General Mills, Federal Express
and other well known companies, are reorganizing their employees into self directed work teams. In a
recent survey, 476 Fortune 500 companies found that although only 7% of the work

How Did Pope John Paul Changed The World
St. Pope John Paul the Second There has been many different saints throughout history who have
changed the world by helping the poor and sick. Some of these saints include St. Vincent De Paul, St.
Benedict of Nursia, and St. Giles; however most of these saints did their good deeds one hundred or
more years ago. In the past century some people were inspired by these people of the past and decided
to continue the work that theses saints started. One of the most important people who heard the call
and gave up their life in order to follow it is St. Pope John Paul the Second. St. Pope John Paul the
Second was born on May 18, 1920 in Wadowice, Poland (Blakemore). His birth name was Karol Józef
Wojtyła (Blakemore), but he later changed it after he became the Pope. When he was a young adult
World War two started and Poland was invaded by the Nazis. He had to flee Poland with a bunch of
other people and only returned after Russia took the land over from Germany. Soon after all of this
happened the war ended and that is when he decided to become a priest. St. John Paul became a priest
in 1946 after the war ended and went to Rome to study philosophy. This lasted ten years and when he
finished with his studies he was first considered as a bishop. During ... Show more content on

themselves. He changed some of the things that the Catholic Church thought was wrong and he also
changed the view of the Catholic Church for the average person who was not part of the religion.
Without him the Catholic Church would have probably been viewed very negatively during the 20th
century because of all the scandals that happened during that time. Also he helped raise awareness for
situations that otherwise probably would never have ever been heard of without him. He was a very

League Of Legends Thesis Statement
Exposure to the unknown can affect everyone in different forms, but video games give nonpareil
power that people would never obtain otherwise. Playing League of Legends has become an extremely
common activity of my life since I began playing what seems like decades ago however in actuality
has been only two years. League of Legends is more than a game; League of Legends is a borderline
sport, with ordinary people with skills indifferent from mine, obtaining salaries equal, if not higher,
than athletes in the NFL, NBA, NHL, FIFA, and etc. I was almost immediately invited to a game by
my friend Bryce and his cousin, Krél. Krél made it obvious that he had lacked prior knowledge of the
champion he was playing. Bryce s family had often found themselves as fantastic league players, with
a majority of them being in higher divisions in the ranked ladder than I was. After Krél cleared the
jungle camps, we went to our lanes, and the game began. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Bryce was getting exasperated, whether this was due to his competitive nature or his short temper, I

negativity crash into me, turning every mistake made into verbal warfare. Nobody was as furious as
Bryce, telling Krél that he would never play League with his cousin again, and that he was trash. It
seemed that our words were coated with toxicity, each stinging and chipping away at our morals, and
knowing we wouldn t be punished, as if behind a username, they are covered in a

3 Passions Of Mine
What are three passions of mine? That s a hard question to answer. Oh, no it s not. Three passions of
mine are bass fishing, hunting, and trapping. To me nothing is more exciting than those three things.
There is no other feeling like a big bas taking your lure and giving you a big fight. One reason bass
fishing is one of my passions is because you never know what to expect. It is just so relaxing to go out
on the water on a calm summer day and catching some big bass. Another reason is because you always
have to find what kind of lure works better than others, and when to use a certain lure. A second

  • 3. Majoritarian And Effective American Voting System Voting systems are the set of procedures that determine who will run our local, state, and federal governments. These procedures include how the ballot is structured, how the vote is casted, how the votes are counted, and how the winners are selected. Although there are a variety of ways a voting system can be structured to enable citizen authorization of authority there are two dominant voting systems in Western democracies: plurality system and proportional representation. Douglas J. Amy in (2000) and G. Bingham Powell in (2000) present a list of criteria that can be used to determine which voting system is preferential. In this paper I will consider Accountability, High Quality Campaigns, and Stable and Effective Government as the criteria for evaluating voting systems, and evaluate the degree to which majoritarian and proportional representation systems fulfill these criteria. In the majoritarian vision of citizen control, concentrated power is necessary. Majoritarian elections act as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In a majoritarian system, voters are able to easily identify which representative they should be holding accountable when unacceptable actions are being taken. This is possible because the majoritarian system uses single member districts in which members of the legislature are elected one at a time in small districts (Amy 29). It also important to note that candidates are elected based on who receives the most votes. This means that it is easy for constituents to not only identify which representative was elected to serve them but to hold them accountable as well. The same can be said about political parties, because of the two party system it is very likely that one party will win the majority of the seats in the legislature, which means that voters will know who to blame for unacceptable actions (Amy ... • 4. Analysis Of Ruta Sepetys Between Shades Of Gray Have you ever wondered what a human life was worth? That morning, my brother s was worth a pocket watch (Sepetys). At this point, the NKVD are trying to separate families, but the Vilkas stay strong and do not let the NKVD push them around. They keep the hope that they will be fine. Before that, the NKVD gathered up all the Lithuanians who were on the list and put them on a bus to some sort of station and from there they traveled to labor camps and then again they took a few from the labor camp and put them on buses and took them too a new location where they were basically sent to die. This all occurred during the time of World War two. Wrhn Stalin and Hitler were fighting for land. The novel of discussion is Between Shades of Gray by Ruta Sepetys. It is about Lina Vilka and her family as they travel from labor camp to labor camp, and experience terrible abuse and treacherous conditions. In the process of it Lina manages to fall in love with a boy named Andrius. Sadly after they realize they like one another they are moved to another camp. The worst part of the whole book is the deaths it describes. The death of Lina s parents, other Lithuanians at the camps, Ona, and Ona s baby. It is a;; just horrible. How can one even think of such horrible things to do to innocent people. In the song Titanium it shows great similarities to Between Shades of Gray. • 8. Teenage Pregnancy Rates And The United States Even though teenage pregnancy rates have decreased in the U.S. in recent years, the rates are far behind European countries. Studies have shown that U.S. teenagers have (a) high rates of sexual intercourse at a younger age, (b) high rates of sex without contraceptives, (c) high rates of pregnancy, (d) and high number of multiple sex partners in comparison to European countries like Sweden, France, Netherland (Bell, 2009). One of the main reasons for high rates of teenage pregnancy in the U.S. is the continuation of ineffective abstinence based education (Bell, 2009) and not allowing teenagers to make abortion related decisions. In the U.S. Eighty two percent of the teenage pregnancy is unintended and 37 % of total unintended pregnancies result in abortion. Teenagers choose to abort babies because of shame, staying focused on career, unstable financial status to support babies and not getting emotional and economic support from parents. Twenty two percent of pregnant teenagers choose not to tell their parents (ACLU, 2001). Teen Pregnancy Prevention Intervention (TPPI) was initiated with the objective of reaching teenagers to create awareness and help them make safe sex choices and prevent pregnancy through comprehensive sex education. However, the policy of after school program has hindered in providing effectiveness of sex education because most of the minority students are not able to participate since they have to go to work and help their parents to support their family. ... Essay about Media Influence Upon Modern Society The Mass Media is a unique feature of modern society; its development has accompanied an increase in the magnitude and complexity of societal actions and engagements, rapid social change, technological innovation, rising personal income and standard of living and the decline of some traditional forms of control and authority. There is an association between the development of mass media and social change, although the degree and direction of this association is still debated upon even after years of study into media influence. Many of the consequences, either detrimental or beneficial, which have been attributed to the mass media, are almost undoubtedly due to other tendencies within society. This is regarded as one of the first in the area of or notion that the mass media has an affect on the societal attitudes and beliefs of that time. This was soon follow around about a decade later in 1941 by Katz, Berelson, and Lazarsfeld who also decided to research into the topic of media effects, a research which produced the now commonly known Minimum Effects Model . The main aspect of this research being to investigate any possible link or factor that may influence voting behaviour. As has been described in numerous literature it s discovery was that the mass media played little or no part in the process of the formation of any political opinion, attitude or preference. They came to the conclusion that the biggest factor influencing people was not the media, but other people. By the 1960 s, there was a revival of Marxist attitudes, and so the work of Katz, Lazarsfeld, and Berelson was largely dismissed in favour of re examining the model of research into media effects, due to the modifications the mass media had undergone in the post 1941 period, to consider another way in which to investigate the influence and the effects of the media. Dzhugashvili and Bronstein Joseph Stalin, born Dzhugashvili, and Leon Trotsky, born Bronstein, were the same age, and both had been from early youth members of the Russian Social Democratic party. As dedicated Communists, they had common basic outlook: they were philosophical materialists, committed to the unity of theory and practice and bent upon spreading Communism throughout the whole world. While Lenin was alive (at any rate until 1922) both men had a secure place in his favor and therefore in the party as a whole. Since 1917, at least, Trotsky had supported Lenin on the main issues and seemed to have more of his candor and flexibility than Stalin. However, as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Young Joseph joined a Marxist society known as Mesame Dasi while a student at the seminary, but it is not clear whether this had anything to do with his expulsion in 1899. During the next two years his Marxism crystallized, and his first Marxist essays appeared in a Georgian newspaper in 1901. At that time he was already an enthusiastic defender of Lenin and the other orthodox Marxist exiles who published the newspaper Iskra. His literary style was not then distinguished; in fact, it never got much better. Stalin was active in the revolutionary movement in Tiflis, Batum, and elsewhere, not as Dzhugashvili, nor yet Stalin, but as Koba. As he got there the theme started to be enforced more; the man started to have memories as he was there and then he started to remember what happened on the day that Alan Mannering drowned. The Etruscans who introduced this type of contest in the sixth century BC, are credited with its development but its the Romans who made it famous. The crimes which led to the arena were murder, treason, robbery and arson. Sometimes penalties were differentiated according to social class, thus for certain crimes which in the case of slaves would involve execution, free men or freedmen (ex slaves) were condemned to fight in the arena instead. • 16. Sexual Education And Sex Education The purpose of this paper is to explain the importance of sexual education and describe differences and similarities in some of the research done on this topic. Having sexual education available to youth is the key in reducing the number of unwanted situations in the sexual health of the individuals. Teaching adolescents about sex is beneficial because they become aware of consequence that might follow specific actions. This is a chance to ensure adolescents take safer routes when deciding to become sexually active. Youth sexual education has been correlated with preventing unplanned pregnancy and sexually transmitted infections (STIs). Many schools have sexual education programs but many teenage pregnancies that are unplanned and STIs are occurring. One reason could be because very few of these sexual education programs are attending to the traditional social norms around sexuality and gender. It is important to consider and focus on the traditional social norms because findings in previous studies have found those that hold traditional social beliefs around gender and sexuality, are at greater risks of negative sexual health consequences. Adolescents should be given the opportunity to receive the proper sexual education in order to eliminate negative sexual health consequences. Researchers have found that individuals in sexual education programs that address traditional social norms and the effects of these beliefs, are less likely to agree with hegemonic masculinity ... In contrast to the negative eugenics position of the state of Virginia, involuntary sterilization laws emphasizing breeding restrictions for society s unfit neither benefit the welfare of the individual nor that of society for several moral and legal reasons. The legal validity of these involuntary sterilization laws would be challenged within the Supreme Court case of Buck v. Bell. In September of 1924, at the age of eighteen, Carrie Buck, an illegitimate daughter of an allegedly feebleminded woman, was admitted to the Virginia s State Colony for Epileptics and the Feebleminded. Six months earlier, the Virginia State Legislature decisively passed their involuntary sterilization bill authorizing the Superintendents of five state institutions to petition for the permission to sterilize inmates. Buck, who had a mental age of nine and an I.Q. of about fifty, had already given birth to an illegitimate child herself, who was allegedly feebleminded as well. At the time, the Superintendent of the State Colony, Dr. A. S. Priddy, petitioned for permission to sterilize this woman for fear that Buck would have more mentally defective children. The statute had provided that each Superintendent needed to receive permission from a special Board of Directors of that institution, who would hear the grounds for sterilization and determine whether or not to follow through on the operation. • 22. Synthesis And Secretion And Dendritic Spine Morphology Calcium controls many neuronal functions, such as neurotransmitter synthesis and secretion and dendritic spine morphology. The role of CaMKKβ is probably best characterised in the brain. CaMKKβ and CaMKKα are both highly expressed in the brain (Anderson et al. 1996), and have been shown to be important in the formation of memory and neuronal plasticity (Wayman et al. 2008). In addition, studies show the CaMK cascade is essential for axon and dendrite elongation in cortical neurons (Ageta Ishihara et al. 2009; Davare et al. 2009), as well as synaptogenesis in hippocampal neurons (Saneyoshi et al. 2008). The CaMK cascade is known to regulate cAMP response element binding protein (CREB) dependent transcriptional activity in vivo, which is important for hippocampal long term memory formation (Lonze and Ginty. 2002). Global CaMKKβ / mice generated by Peters et al were found to have male specific impaired spatial memory formation secondary to reduced spatial training induced CREB activation, as well as impaired long term memory for the social transmission of food preferences secondary to the lack of late long term potentiation at the hippocampal area CA1 synapses (Peters et al. 2003; Mizuno et al. 2007). No difference was found in other types of hippocampus dependent long term memory, including contextual fear memory and passive avoidance, compared to wild type mice suggesting that the formation of these long term memory types do not require the activation of CREB by CaMKKβ. ... He explains the influential strength of our subconscious that controls our intuitions and perceptions that translates into our daily actions. These daily actions occur via thorough thinking or through a simple technique Gladwell calls, thin slicing . Specifically, this technique showcases how an individual can extract in depth details about a situation, only given a snapshot of a given scenario. Gladwell explains, If he [researcher John Gottman] analyzes an hour of a husband and wife talking, he can predict with 95 percent accuracy whether that couple will still be married fifteen years later. If we watched a couple for fifteen minutes, his success rate is around 90 percent. From this, Gladwell expands to educate his readers on how to exploit these instincts in order to live our lives more efficiently. Or, in his words, to think without thinking . However, Gladwell does outline the dangers of thin slicing when done inaccurately exemplified by fatal police shootings conducted by officers who ve misjudged a situation such as Amanda Diallo s case. Additionally, thin slicing can backlash when individuals are racist or prejudice. In some companies, self directed work teams will also take over many of the human resource functions as well (Cotton, 1993). Self directed work teams have also become one of the more changing approaches to employee involvement, and has been increasing in popularity within the last several years. • 33. How Did Pope John Paul Changed The World St. Pope John Paul the Second There has been many different saints throughout history who have changed the world by helping the poor and sick. Some of these saints include St. Vincent De Paul, St. Benedict of Nursia, and St. Giles; however most of these saints did their good deeds one hundred or more years ago. In the past century some people were inspired by these people of the past and decided to continue the work that theses saints started. One of the most important people who heard the call and gave up their life in order to follow it is St. Pope John Paul the Second. St. Pope John Paul the Second was born on May 18, 1920 in Wadowice, Poland (Blakemore). His birth name was Karol Józef Wojtyła (Blakemore), but he later changed it after he became the Pope. When he was a young adult World War two started and Poland was invaded by the Nazis. He had to flee Poland with a bunch of other people and only returned after Russia took the land over from Germany. Soon after all of this happened the war ended and that is when he decided to become a priest. St. John Paul became a priest in 1946 after the war ended and went to Rome to study philosophy. Pope John Paul changed both the Catholic Church and the lives of many people who could not defend themselves. He changed some of the things that the Catholic Church thought was wrong and he also changed the view of the Catholic Church for the average person who was not part of the religion. Without him the Catholic Church would have probably been viewed very negatively during the 20th century because of all the scandals that happened during that time. Also he helped raise awareness for situations that otherwise probably would never have ever been heard of without him. He was a very great man and without him both the world and the Catholic Church as a whole would look much different than it does ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 35. League Of Legends Thesis Statement Exposure to the unknown can affect everyone in different forms, but video games give nonpareil power that people would never obtain otherwise. Playing League of Legends has become an extremely common activity of my life since I began playing what seems like decades ago however in actuality has been only two years. League of Legends is more than a game; League of Legends is a borderline sport, with ordinary people with skills indifferent from mine, obtaining salaries equal, if not higher, than athletes in the NFL, NBA, NHL, FIFA, and etc. I was almost immediately invited to a game by my friend Bryce and his cousin, Krél. Krél made it obvious that he had lacked prior knowledge of the champion he was playing. Bryce s family had often found themselves as fantastic league players, with a majority of them being in higher divisions in the ranked ladder than I was. After Krél cleared the jungle camps, we went to our lanes, and the game began. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As the game continued tensions became greater and greater, I soon found that everyone on my team was verbally harassing each other, and to some extent, even I felt the wave of negativity crash into me, turning every mistake made into verbal warfare. Nobody was as furious as Bryce, telling Krél that he would never play League with his cousin again, and that he was trash. It seemed that our words were coated with toxicity, each stinging and chipping away at our morals, and knowing we wouldn t be punished, as if behind a username, they are covered in a ... • 36. 3 Passions Of Mine What are three passions of mine? That s a hard question to answer. Oh, no it s not. Three passions of mine are bass fishing, hunting, and trapping. To me nothing is more exciting than those three things. There is no other feeling like a big bas taking your lure and giving you a big fight. One reason bass fishing is one of my passions is because you never know what to expect. It is just so relaxing to go out on the water on a calm summer day and catching some big bass. Another reason is because you always have to find what kind of lure works better than others, and when to use a certain lure. A second passing of mine is hunting. It doesn t matter if it s duck hunting or deer hunting, I love them both. What is better than having a flock of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
