Metamaterials have been a subject of increasing interest due to their ability to manipulate the flow
of EM waves. We analyse the mechanism by which metamaterials are able to exhibit this property
which is exploited to develop the Harry Potter esque invisibility cloaks. We briefly discuss the
whole new branch of optics called Transformation Optics developed for this purpose, and comment
on the extent to which these materials can cloak.

Metamaterials are artificially designed materials which have properties that cannot be found in
natural materials.[1] They were first theoretically proposed by Veselago in 1968 as materials
having negative permeability and permittivity. This is why these are also known as Left Handed
Materials (LHM) or Negative Refractive Index materials (NIM). The first discovery in this domain
was done by Sir Pendry et al in 1996, who discovered a wire medium with negative permittivity.

The Canadian Dollar has undergone a significant depreciation over the past 10 years. The drop in
relative value of our currency has caused a great deal of consternation not only among economists
but also in the media and consequently the general public has well. Ordinary citizens experience
first hand the effects of such depreciation every time they go to our most frequented vacation spot,
the United States. While economic variables are not usually the subject of casual debate, the

The value of our currency is most reflected in the price of the US dollar. This paper will therefore
use the price of a US dollar in terms of Canadian dollars as the value of the Canadian dollar.
In the previous section I assumed that the currency is flexible, that is to say that the price is based
on foreign exchange market activity. It is however possible to fix the price of a currency at a
particular level. In order to accomplish this, the central bank must be willing to buy or sell the
perceived excesses of the market; i.e. the bank must buy or sell enough Canadian dollars so that
the price remains stable. If such a practice becomes unsustainable the central must change the
fixed price or move the peg. Such a system, known as the Breton Woods system was predominant
in post world war II industrialized economies. However by the Nineteen sixties Canada, Canada
like many other nations, moved to a flexible exchange rate system. It is important not to assume
that because the currency is not officially fixed at some level, that the central bank does not play
a role in determining its price. The central bank still intervenes in the market but not to hold the
price at a certain level, but rather to prevent to price from fluctuating rapidly up or down. This type
of exchange rate regime is known as a dirty float.

It is to tell how the reaction between magnesium and hydrochloric acid will be effected if we
change the concentration of hydrochloric acid.
Introduction
In the experiment the magnesium reacts with the hydrochloric acid to create magnesium chloride
and hydrogen. The balanced formula for this is:
Mg(s) + 2HCL(aq) MgCl2(aq) + H2(g)
Magnesium + hydrochloric acid Magnesium Chloride + Hydrogen
Magnesium will react with hydrochloric acid, because it is higher in the reactivity series than
hydrogen. The magnesium displaces the hydrogen in the acid, so it forms magnesium chloride and
hydrogen gas.

The amount of hydrogen I will end up with when the reaction has completely finished will be the
same for all the concentrations, but if a reaction is too slow and exceeds the set time I will stop
taking results and it might not finish reacting.
Preliminary experiment
I was suggested to use 20cm3 of hydrochloric acid and 5cm of cleaned magnesium ribbon, and
take the volume of hydrogen in the syringe every 10 seconds for the preliminary experiment to. I
tried this but the reaction happened very quickly and the results of the volume of hydrogen were
very spread out. The results for each 10 second interval were not accurate enough and there was
not enough magnesium to get a high level of hydrogen. To solve this I increased the amount of
magnesium strip to 8cm, and decreased the time interval to 5 seconds each. I tried this and the
results were much more reliable to use and analyze.
Fair Test
To keep a fair test I will have to look into all the variables surrounding the experiment and only
change the variable that I am testing on. The other variables are the temperature of the acid at the
beginning, the volume of acid, the surface area of the magnesium strip, the length of the
magnesium strip and if the magnesium strip is cleaned or not.

The magnesium strips were cleaned and cut correctly by the lab technician and I measured and
inspected the strip each time I started the experiment to make sure it was ok for the experiment.

ENC 1102 Dutchman Thematic Analysis
The phrase racial tension is a small description of the main theme in Dutchman by Amiri Baraka.
While race is a vital part of the underlying messages in the play, it stems to a much broader term. In
Dutchman Amiri Baraka attempts to grasp the attention of the African Americansociety. Baraka
uses Clay s character to show readers that complete assimilation into another culture is wrong. He
wants to awaken the African American men and women in a predominately Caucasian American
culture to subconsciously kill the person that is portrayed by Clay in the play. Not only does
Baraka want readers and audience members to kill their inner Clay, but refuse to conform to ...

quote could be thought of as a subliminal way of saying that Clay killed the black man inside of
him. All throughout the first scene Lula has the more aggressive and dominant role, but in scene
two Clay takes on the more authoritative role, while Lula ends up being the actual murderer at
the end of the play. Lula s plot to kill Clay is in some way foreshadowed when the other
passengers board the train and she says we ll pretend that people cannot see you . (Baraka 2751)
Clay tries to defend himself all throughout the play but doesn t succeed because he can t defend
something that he is not. While Lula is insulting the stereotypes and behavior of black men, Clay

Listeriosis coming from a Colorado farm called Jensen Farm. Jensen farm held a press conference
on September fourteenth and voluntarily recalled their cantaloupe. The cost associated with just
one food borne illness shocked me. The symptoms of this outbreak were the same for many of the
victims which included: fever, muscle aches, and diarrhea. The causalities were extremely high in
