Similarities and Differences in Parent and Child...
Children are like fingerprints, not one is the same as another. Appearance, personality, and the
pace at which we develop are unique to each person. Although individuality is celebrated, new
parents are often eager to pick out characteristics of their children that are similar to their own.
They may notice their infant has the same vibrant, red hair as his mother or loves reading as
much as his father. Such similarities and differences between a parent and a child can be caused
by a variety of reasons. In this paper I will explore two broad categories, environmental factors and
inherited characteristics, as the basis of these characteristic variations. Carson had a normal, natural
birth with a labor time of about ten hours. He... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
With Carson, I feel I made a conscious effort to try and foster language development as much as
possible even when he was an infant simply by having conversations with him during daily
routines and exposing him to language. As he grew older, I encouraged him to interact with the
environment by taking him to new places and engaging with him and the toys he was using.
Furthermore, studies have found there is a genetic link to verbal abilities (which is also correlated
with verbal intelligence). In one study it was concluded that the genetic influences on verbal
intelligence become more significant over one s lifetime in explaining differences between
individuals, whereas environmental factors decrease (Hoekstra, Bartels, van Leeuwen, Boomsma,
2009). Additionally, twin and adoption studies on verbal memory and fluency in early childhood
(as well as adulthood) show that there are moderate to strong genetic influences (Hoekstra, Bartels,
van Leeuwen, Boomsma, 2009). Similarly, one reason Carson s temperament could be parallel to
my own is the concept of passive gene environment correlation. This is the idea that parents pass on
genes to their child and consequently create an environment that enhances these characteristics
(Price, Jaffee, 2008). A 2008 study investigating the effects of passive gene environment correlation
defines it as children inheriting exposure to family environments (Price, Jaffee, 2008). For instance,

Literature Review On HIV
Literature review The emergence of drug resistant strains of human immunodeficiency virus(
HIV) and treatment failure can result from non adherence to antiretroviral therapy (ART).
(Michel Morin;2000) Non adherences to medication is widespread among patients (Margaret A.
Chesney; 2000).An estimated average rate of patient that non adhere to the antiretroviral (ARV)
treatment therapy ranges from about 50 70%( Margaret A. Chesney; 2000) HIV becomes drug
resistance when the ARV treatments are not adhered to. Once the patient has taken their
antiretroviral (ARVs) medication then stops the HIV is able to replicate and will do so at a
rapid rate. As a result mutations are very common (Jen Gorgan and Ruth Suter;2009) There can
be one or more mutations that might block the working of the ARVS making them less effected
or even completely ineffective. i.e. the virus will become resistant to any of the drugs and
multiply. (Jen Gorgan and Ruth Suter;2009) There are many factors as to why patients do not
adhere to their ARV treatment. The main factors for non adherence would appear to be patient
related, this would include patients that are alcohol and substance abusers. However there are
many other reasons, that could contribute, such as inconvenient dosing frequency, dietary
restrictions, pill burden, side effects, area which the patient is located and patient health care
provider relationships; and the system of care (Margaret A. Chesney; 2000) this factors/reasons
mentioned above can be improved by clarifying treatment plans and perhaps be able to work
around the patient schedule or lifestyle also the patient and their loved ones should be educated
in order to understand the risks and for the to create a financial plan. Medical centers/clinics
should also have support groups for the patients and should distribute pamphlets (like the ones
that have added been provided by ICAS) There are HIV related stigmas and discriminations that
refer to the prejudice, abuse and negativity that is shown towards people living HIV and aids.in
many countries with available data, over 50%of people have been said to have shown
discriminatory attitude toward people living with HIV and AIDS. These stigmas have made people

The Nature Of The Forest
The landscape is affected as well. The surface mining requires a large area. With the amount
excavated the mine is constantly growing. The area which the mining takes place in is called the
Boreal Forest. This forest is an ecologically diverse natural resource. The forest is a combination
of woodland and wet land, and composes of about thirty percent of the Canadian land mass . The
forest is changed when the companies divert rivers or drain the wet lands. The water effected
from the diversion and draining is either used in the plant or pumped to another location. When
the mining of the area is complete the companies plan on creating a new landscape, where
wetlands once flourished there will by low lying dry hills. The forest is also effected it is cut
down, and what would be replanted by a logging company, is dug up by surface mines. Once the
mining is complete the soil has changed so much that the once flourishing Boreal ecosystem
will be crippled for hundreds of years to come. Wildlife is some of the most effected, by the Oil
Sands. The habitat of many different species is being dwindled. The wet lands that are in the
Boreal forest support a breading ground for many different types of water birds. If this wetland is
drained then the population of many water birds is effected. The noise and sudden presence of
humans is another factor driving animals away from there once indigenous lands . Caribou, and

Scientific Management (850 Words)
It could be said that Fredrick Winslow Taylor s scientific management theory is still significantly
relevant to management practices the 21st century. By analysing both critics and advocates of
Taylor s theory, we are able to gain a comprehensive insight into Taylor s contribution to the
improved productivity, higher efficiency and greater consistency in the current business world. In
conjunction with this, suggestions have been made that scientific managementexercises poor
working conditions, dehumanizing effects and in this century is rather diminishing in importance.

48). It can be seen that suggestions have been made upon the negative effects of Taylor s theory.
Today, there is increasing evidence of scientific management becoming dated as we become more
focused on incorporating ideologies of modern management approaches. Chowdhury claims that,
There is much truth in the saying that every living practitioner is prisoner to the ideas of a dead
theorist. (2000, pp. 21). It is emphasised here how our view of theorists has dramatically changed
over time and one of the reasons for this different perspective as seen in this century is discussed by
Grint, Management theory, especially American management theory, has generally been construed
to represent this rational development towards a more effective system over time. (1997, pp. 48).
Due to gradual changes in management practices, it is evident that Taylor s theory is arguably
becoming less significant.
By examining Taylor s theory and its impact on business management practices today, it is evident
that there are still supporters as well as increasing critics of his concept. Whilst there are indications
of successful implementation of his practices in businesses today, there are also many negative
facets of his theory regarding its impact on the employee. This research suggests that although

Analysis Of Alan Paton s Cry The Beloved Country
In one of C.S. Lewis numerous influential books, The Weight of Glory, he states, To be a Christian
means to forgive the inexcusable, because God has forgiven the inexcusable in you. Throughout
life people often become angry with another person, or at a situation. Whether a person is in
control of that situation or not, as a Christian, the Bible speaks of forgiving and loving others no
matter the fault committed against a person. The quote by C.S. Lewis is an example of how it is
inexcusable for Christians to not forgive others because God constantly forgives. While Stephen
does not completely struggle with the forgivenessaspect throughout his experiences in the book,
the various times he becomes angry with another character can sometimes prevent him from
forgiving that person right away. In Alan Patons Crythe Beloved Country, the main character
Stephen Kumalo sins against his sister Gertrude and his sons girlfriend, and this shows how
Stephen struggles with controlling his anger throughout the story. Stephen Kumalo shames his
sister Gertrude because he is upset, angry, and embarrassed that his family has fallen apart. After
Stephen meets with Gertrude for the first time and finds out what she has been doing, he declares,
You have shamed us... A liquor seller, a prostitute with a child and you do not know where it is.
Your brother a priest. How could you do this to us? (Paton 61). However, Stephens rage does not
last for long though because his heart quickly softens

Technolgy and Pilot s Training
Flight Simulator is a great example of technology device that plays important part in pilot s
training. I chose Flight Simulator because it is a good topic to be focused on. Firstly, flight
simulator is a high technology machine designed to look like a cockpit of an aircraft, it has
computer generated images that shows the pilot s view, the same environment as a real plane has.
It has powerful structure with mechanisms that move the device in various condition. Just key in
the condition you want. Rainy ? 40km/h of wind ? This device can make it. It is a device that
artificially re creates cockpit like real aircraft. Basically, it is used for pilot training, aircraft design,
and any other purposes. In flight simulator, you can start wherever you want, moving away from the
hangar, take off landing etc. In simulator it includes real environment of a flight with same
mechanism on how aircraft fly etc.
INTRODUCTION/BACKGROUND
Before World War 1, the first recorded flight simulator was built on 1909, the simulator was built to
help pilot fly a monoplane designed by Antoinette. Antoinette is a French manufacturer of light
petrol engine. Later on, Antoinette became the most important and the pioneer builder of
aeroplanes. The Antoinette unit was pivoted and they need assistants outside the device so that
they could roll and pitch the device. They built it using long wooden rods attached to the barrel.
The first full size model was named Antoinette Barrel Trainer .

Romeo And Juliet
Romeo and Juliet can be said to be the most famous of all Shakespearean plays; however, an
audience could be confused as to whether it is a Shakespearean tragedy or a romance. A
Shakespearean tragedy can be defined as an intense exploration of suffering and evil representing
a steep fall from prosperity to misery, untimely death and/or a great change. Romeo and Juliet
begin with a prologue, which states the plot before the story even begins where Shakespeare s
displays his use of tone, plot structure and characterization. The theme of fate or destiny,

pride in accomplishment, which all help raise Philadelphiaup as a proud and progressing city. It s

The part about the Rocky statue that makes it so universal is that it represents the tale of an
underdog. This underdog tale not only relates to Philadelphians, but it inspires people
everywhere. An interview was conducted where boxers were asked to talk about Rocky s
impact on Philadelphia. Justin Sargus, a boxer in Philadelphia says The impact it has had on
fighters, and what they think they can do, and endure, and the way they go about training and
style is certainly still felt today. A world championship is a possibility, based from being a
relative unknown . (Dinero 1) The statue gives Philadelphia something monumental to stand on
and something to represent all the hardship the city has been through. The Rocky character also
embraces the culture, and lifestyle of a true Philadelphian. He eats at the same restaurants, runs
through the same streets, and speaks like a Philadelphia. This gives the statue a personal
connection to the people of the city, one they can claim as their own. The places and stores seen
in the movie are very popular tourist attractions in the city. Zeke Ferguson from Di Brunos Bros,
a popular site from the movie says It is an iconic story of an underdog which I think all
Philadelphians have been at, at one time or another, and it shows you can succeed in the face of
overwhelming odds (Dinero 1) The city is filled with an enormous amount of diversity and just
as the city and its people have been through hard times, so has Rocky. The statue also appeals to
people worldwide not only because of its iconic underdog story, but because of its ability to
appeal on a personal level. Whenever failure is upon someone, Rocky inspires them to come back
strong because if you work hard you can achieve your goals. Justin Sargus says The thing about the
Rocky movies is that they make it seem like you can take an enormous amount

The Effects Of Media On Body Dissatisfaction Of Young...
The media is an important aspect of the current society and is ever present to the public. With
the creation of new technology, there are more and more ways the media can be received and
displayed for people to see everywhere they go. There are so many media sights nowadays such
as Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook, as well as new magazines, commercials and other media
publications made every day that allow people to connect to current events and new trends.
Although today s media has the potential to have a positive or negative impact on the lives of
the people, there have been many controversial debates on the impact of the media on the body
dissatisfaction of young girls and adolescents. Body dissatisfaction can be described as the
negative self evaluation of one s own appearance and to be more physically attractive, and is fairly
common in young girls and adolescents. Approximately one hundred studies of media effects on
body dissatisfaction have been conducted with the majority of these showing at least some
evidence, (Ferguson, Munoz, Contreras, Velasquez). Many psychological experts and specialists
have explored the effect of the media on developing female girls and adolescent body imageto
conclude whether it has a significant or insignificant impact on the body image of female
adolescents and young girls. In the current media, women are idealized as skinny, airbrushed, and
flawless. The media has been harshly criticized for creating and perpetuating a cultural

fight to prove that women are able to vote.
Susan had some hard challenges in her life just for the rights of women. Some were that she couldn

Elizabeth Cady Stanton they became best friends. They formed a group of women who fought for
suffrage. No matter what challenge they came up against, they kept on trying to accomplish their

Analysis Of Letter From A Birmingham Jail
Dyeing Courage
Seas of glass varying in shape, size, and hue work together to form a stunning mosaic of the broken,
working as one. Radiating above its inexorable admirer, the fluid contrast in such intoxicating
amounts hypnotizes the soul permanently leaving shards of 1960. Such a piece represents the
corruption embedded in history that afflicted the black community. Exploiting the rhetoricof
appealing to reason, allusion, and anthesis, Dr. King stained his proclamation of civil inequality
with these devices in his renowned, Letter from a Birmingham Jail .
King s purposeful use of appealing to reason gave him an upper hand throughout his piece, Letter
from a Birmingham Jail and established security in his statements. Taking ethos into consideration
from Martin Luther King s text, we saw why he presented himself in such a formal manner. I have
the honor of serving as president of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference, an organization

throughout his letter to add just another foothold on his audience. But since I feel that you are men

How Does Oscar Wilde Use Humor
In Oscar Wilde s The Importance of Being Earnest there are multiple types of humor. Oscar
Wilde was known for being quite humorous and he shows this throughout the story. This story
has grown to be very popular and has been made into countless stage productions and even three
films. The Importance of being Earnest can thank its humor and hysterical tone for making it
into the widely known and loved play that it is today. One type of humor that is found in The
Importance of Being Earnest is inversion humor. Inversion humor is when someone goes
against logical reasoning and says expressions that make little to no sense at all. In inversion
humor, the end of the phrase being said is typically the opposite of what you expect to be said,
and is very unpredictable. One of many instances where this type of humor is found is when
Cecily says, I don t like novels that end happily. They depress me so much (Wilde, Act II P.2311).
As you can see she begins with saying she does not like happy endings and then contradicts the
meaning of the word happy and says that they depress her. There are numerous other instances
where inversion humor is used and it adds greatly to the tone of the story.... Show more content on

comes to dealing with any form of aggressive behavior from children, especially in school. Did you
ever wonder why schools have so much violence? But people always want to know what really

Since there are so many variables it can be difficult to recognize success or failure (weaver).
Secondly, what cause school violence? School violence is in the headlines again with the
shootings at Tennessee State University. After hearing news of campus shooting or other
violence, students no matter where they go to school might worry about whether this type of
incident could ever happen to them. It is rare that on campus violence takes place on the scale
of what happened at Tennessee State or Virginia Tech. But, why does school violence happen?
There is no single reason why students become violent. Some are copying behavior they grew
up with, or saw on the streets, or in video games, movies, or TV. Sometimes, people who turn
violent are victims of teasing who have hit a limit and feel like they would do anything to make
it stop. They may feel isolated and rejected by their peers, or have undergone a break up with a
romantic partner. There is one thing experts do agree on through: having access to guns or other
weapons makes it easier for some people to lash out against the things or people they do not like.
Or if you have witnessed or experienced violence of any kind, not talking about it can make
feelings build up inside and cause problems.

morals behind the couple. Just like with most celebrities, their story has been distorted to for a
more entertaining purpose; movies. We as humans, tend to glorify celebrities, even if they were
bank robbers and killers. A major example of how we glorify celebrities can be seen by looking at
historical figures Bonnie and ClydeBarrow.
In the movie, Bonnie and Clyde are seen as the protagonists of the movie. The way the directors
set up the script makes you fall in love with the characters. It s one way to get you to feel
emotion at the end when, spoiler alert, they are killed. The movie is set up in a way to get you to
sympathize with the characters. If you knew the real story, you might not feel so sympathetic.
Barrow was suspected of numerous killings and was wanted for murder, robbery, and state charges
of kidnapping ( Bonnie and Clyde 1). They were well known for their robberies and murders.
They were believed to have committed 13 murders within their four year spree; most of whom
were law enforcers.
At the time they were killed in 1934, they were believed to have committed 13 murders and
several robberies and burglaries. Barrow, for example, was suspected of murdering two police
officers at Joplin, Missouri and kidnapping a man and a woman in rural Louisiana. He released

The West African Regional War Essay
The West Africa Regional War
For observers of the West Africa regional war, the recent calm in the war torn Mano River Union
(MRU) states Liberia, Sierra Leone, and Guinea has given rise to optimism. Guarded, as this
optimism might be, the decrease in violence in West Africa during the second half of 2001 is an
important development given the scope and intensity of fighting that gripped these states earlier in
the year. While observers agree that the current absence of widespread violent conflict in the MRU
is a much welcomed development, it must not mask the profound cleavages within these societies,
the tenuous nature of the UN imposed peace in Sierra Leone, and the continued serious threat of
renewed warfare in the region. A brief... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The end of the 1990s housed over 500,000 refugees housed in hundreds of camps and settlements in
Guinea, one of the largest refugee populations in the world (U.S. Commission for Refugees,
Guinea: Country Report 1999, www.refugees.org/world/countryrpt/africa/1999/guinea.htm). While
the destabilizing effects on Guinean society of large numbers of Liberian and Sierra Leonean
refugees was profound throughout the 1990s, sustained cross border conflict did not break out
between Guinea and her neighbors until 2000. Cross border attacks into Guinea by Sierra Leone s
Revolutionary United Front (RUF) and various Liberian based rebel groups precipitated a harsh
military response from the Guinean military, which led to thousands of militia and civilian
casualties.
Of course, fighting in West Africaduring the 1990s was not confined to the MRU states. Serious
bloodshed occurred in Guinea Bissau (1999), the southern Casamance region of Senegal
(ongoing), and Nigeria (ongoing) and conflict threatens to engulf c?te d Ivoire. Sometimes referred
to as the arc of conflict in West Africa, these wars escape simple classification. While the war that
started in 1989 in Liberia has become regionalized in the rest of the MRU, the other areas of
instability in West Africa are based on intra state phenomena. Nevertheless, the broader and deeper
that instability grows in West Africa, the greater the risk that conflicts will merge and spread, further

During the 1830s the Democratic Party was formed around President Andrew Jackson and his

The peal of shouting that arose rent the air, and seemed to shake the very ground. But when the
Chief Justice took his place and commenced the brief ceremony of administering the oath, it
quickly sank into comparative silence; and as the new President proceeded to read his inaugural
address, the stillness gradually increased; but all efforts to hear him, beyond the brief space
immediately around were utterly in vain. Jackson s policies for a small government sparked
interests in plantation owners in the south and farmers in the west. Jackson demised the National

The Dreams Of Dreams By Carl Jung
Every night people lay their heads down to rest in hopes of having a good night s sleep and as
you sleep during the night, dreams occur. Some remember more than others. However, a dream is
always present even if you may think it is not. The curiosity of dreams is what started the popularity
of dream interpretation. People wanted to know what they meant and how they were getting there
which drove psychologists to go out and study them. (The DreamExperience Chapter 1) Dreams
are a very complex topic because of the various meanings for their appearance. Theories vary from
dream simply being apart of a biological cycle that occurs during sleep to theories, or like Sigmund
Freuds who believed that there is a deeper meaning behind dreams that is driven by sexual
aggression. Carl Jungs theory is also very popular because of its acceptance. Jung, in general,
believed dreams had a different meaning from what the dream actually shows. Several theories
and several explanations for dream causes great disagreement between scientists and
psychologists. (You are What you Dream) Throughout time, however, other theories of dreaming
have come about after Freud s. Freud s theory is, to this say, questioned, by psychologists around
the world. Is Freud s theory still hold up in the 21st century? Freud s theory of dreams which is
extremely abstract when it relates to other theories such as Carl Jung s and Allan Hobson and

Search incident to Lawful Arrest if an individual happens to be arrested lawfully they are no longer
a free citizen therefore a police officer may search their persons and any areas that are within
their reach. An example can be Mary is arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol. She

vehicle found narcotics in the passenger side of the vehicle. She was herself and that was within her

The Privatization Of Temporary Assistance For Needy...
Introduction The privatization of Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) services has
occurred in all except one of 50 states (McConnell, Burwick, Perez Johnson, Winston, 2003).
There are substantial differences as to the size and extent of services that are privatized. This
paper will first, analyze study provided by the Mathematica Policy Research, Inc. (MPR) to
discuss the benefits and conversely the problems of contracting out. Secondly, this paper will
discuss important factors and pitfalls towards contracting effectiveness. Finally, this paper will
recommend contracting out while recommending assurances for accountability. Background Over
the past two decades, the contracting out of welfare facilities has grown and extended into new
services. In 1996, the Personal Responsibility and Work Opportunity Reconciliation Act
(PRWORA) was enacted into federal law (McConnell, Burwick, Perez Johnson, Winston, 2003).
The PRWORA began the stimulus towards the desire of having the privatization of welfare
programs. The act transferred the attention of the welfare system away from programs like cash
assistance, and instead focused on programs where recipients are situated with jobs (McConnell,
Burwick, Perez Johnson, Winston, 2003). The program also began transferring autonomy to states
so they may design in state policies that follow TANF. States as well as localities thus began

The Benefits Of Driving Limitation For Teenagers
Should there be so many driving limitation for young teenagers? Should these laws include
limiting the time of day that a teenage driver can drive alone or the number of passengers
permitted in the car? Also, would it be helpful to have a permit system that would give new drivers
more experience before they get behind the wheel alone on their own? Are these laws beneficial
/necessary for young drivers?
Teenage drivers are not always following the laws that are in place that would restrict them from
driving during overnight hours, using cell phones, and limiting the number of passengers they can
have in the car. It would seem that one of the biggest accomplishments in a teenager s life is
receiving their driver s license. It is my opinion that, obtaining a license gives a teenager freedom;
a newfound sense of independence. This new independence can be very intoxicating. Teenagers
drive themselves to school functions, extracurricular activities, or to work. A friend drives over
to visit or to pick them up to go somewhere. It is very thrilling to know that you are not at your
parent s mercy to drive you to and from school, meet friends, or to work. But with all of this new
freedom comes responsibility which most sixteen year olds are not ready to handle.
I understand why teenagers would want to break the law and drive before they are legally ready.
Teenagers crave independence. As they grow into young adults, they feel the need to spread
their wings, and move away from the nest. Driving is an important milestone that allows
teenagers to transition into adulthood independently. Teenagers look forward to that
independence with great anticipation, and want to drive earlier, therefore, they end up breaking
laws which are there to protect the young teenager. There is a time in the teenage years,
especially the ages sixteen twenty which are considered a rite of passage for many individuals
who want to apply for a driver s license and legally drive the car as a licensed driver. It isn t just
teens that are excited to reach that defining age; even parents are excited and motivated as well to
join their kids in this exciting time of their life. Because of this, young teenage drivers have
consistently broken the driving

Effects Of Mongol Rule On China
In breaking down the causations and effects of the Mongols regarding their rule on China during
1200 1500, one can see these include the implementation of governing philosophies of elected
officials that shaped Chinese culture, the influence of tax farming systems on China s economy,
and the influence of trade on social hierarchies. An example of an impact by the Mongols on
Chinese rule is the negative influences of tax farming on Chinese economy. Another example of a
causation of Mongol rule on Chinais the of tax farming systems in order to improve revenue in the
area.
China during Mongol domination, incorporated philosophy and organization into the government,
which helped it shape their cultural and political outlook. An example of an impact of Mongol rule
on China s government is their use of provinces to organize China s cities, specifically with Yunnan.
The Mongols used provinces to systemize the government and appointed governors to each district,
where that governor would take care of the taxes. The reason for this method of organization is that
the Mongols trusted foreigners more than the Chinese, so they appointed their tasks to foreigners
such as the governor of Yunnan. The governor of Yunnan didn t have any major positions, but he
helped develop the trade in his region and promoted Confucian belief which along with the
provincial organization shaped China. An example of a causation for the incorporation of
Confucian belief in government was due to the Mongols

Analysis Of Simone De Beauvoir s The Second Sex
The first text we explore in this step is Bonaventure s On Seeing God in his Image . Bonaventure
shows us that through inward reflection we can see God. God can then lead us to God s two most
important laws, and the best ways for us to live in community with others; by loving God, and our
neighbors. The next text is from the 2nd Vatican Council called Pastoral Constitution, which
focused on bringing the church into modern times. This text focuses on the importance of helping
those being marginalized, those who are on the brink of society, and what is the best way that the
Church as a community can fight to protect them. The following text comes from Simone de
Beauvoir called The Second Sex, which discusses the ideas of the feminist... Show more content on

One major link includes the fight between an oppressed group and their persecutors. Whether it s
the proletariat and the bourgeois in The Communist Manifesto, or the inequality of genders in
The Second Sex, or the flight of the African Americans in the Letter from Birmingham Jail . In
all of these texts we are shown how easy it is for one group to abuse their power and create
unfair rules and regulations only imposed on the more inferior members of society. Each group
of oppressor thrives off of alienating, and subjugating their inferiors. So it seems the theme of
solidarity is the only way to combat this linkage of oppression. In all of the texts we are shown
that through solidarity comes freedom. We see in Bonaventure, and Vatican Council II that all God
wants for God s people is inclusion, and to fight for the rights of the others of the world. In the
more secular texts from King, de Beauvoir, and Marx and Engels, we see the same ideas. The only
way to fight prejudice is to unite the people of either side of the problem, and have them work
together to make the whole of society a more inclusive place. By uniting together to fight
oppression we overcome the trivialities that separate seemingly opposing groups. The next theme
contingent throughout the step is the benefits of community. This is similar to the inclusiveness
that comes from solidarity, but through community we can prevent oppression from happening

One common trend throughout these unfortunate events is the way that the media perceives
African Americans since the beginning of slavery until the present day and age, and how society as
the audience connect and react with the portrayal of controversial events.
There are many information outlets today that help set the perception of Blacks in society.
Social media websites such as YouTube and World Star Hip Hop often hosts videos that show
blacks as animals. Viral videos, such as Sharkeisha , DcyoungFly s videos, POP Hold It Down , and
more, only portray Blacks as ignorant and violent. About four years ago it only took 220,000 views
to make a video viral, but today a viral video will have at least 1.5 million views (Fiorentino). This
is significant in that for every viral video showing Blacks in an unfavorable light, there are at least
1.5 million people reaffirming negative stereotypes and perceptions of Blacks today. There aren t
many viral videos that portray blacks that go to college and become doctors, professors, scientist, or

Legalization Of Polygamy In The United States
In today s developing world it is common for people to desire and be affectionate with more than
one spouse. It seems difficult for one person, man or woman to commit to being with one spouse,
therefore the divorce rates are increasing every day. The question remains whether this act should
be legalized or not.
Polygamy is having more than one spouse. There are different types of polygamy; these include
polygamy where a man has multiple wives, polyandry in which a woman has multiple husbands,
and group marriage where a family consists of multiple husbands and wives. Polygamy is
definitely the most popular of the three listed. In the United States the practice of any form of
polygamy is illegal and due to this law, many adherents of the lifestyle stays hidden. My perspective
of polygamy is that having more than one spouse should remain illegal because marriage means
committing to one person alone.
Having more than one spouse can cause many issues for the family. Financial issues, lack of
attention and affection to the other wives, one of the wives may feel like the husband is giving

Polygamy brings many problems in a family life, but some people support it because it doesn t

polygamy in the United States is a great way to save families from suffering. Polygamy doesn t
only give a bad effect for the wives but for the children s psychology. Polygamy can also
encourage the idea that women are considered objects that men can own. Eventually, this can lead
to abuse and other issues that no one should ever have to deal with. These relationships will cause
hatred, jealousy, depressed, and an emotional burden among the family members. Therefore,

Social Responsibility And Health Care
Nursing is more than just the physical care that is delivered; it is the protection and promotion of
health, the alleviation of suffering and the prevention and treatment of illness and injury
(AHPRA, 2015). Workplace citizenship and its three core elements of team work, social
responsibility and communication are essential in the nursing profession to develop skills and
give the best nursing care that is possible, because of how these elements work individually as
well as together. This essay will explore the negative and positive effects of each core element and
how it affects the care that is delivered by nurses.
Communication in nursing is an essential skill which allows nurses to capably deliver effective
and efficient care. Nurses being providers of health care must be able to recognise and prevent
barriers that may occur throughout the communication process as their job is to primarily interact
with patients in a culturally diverse workplace (Dwyer, 2012). Barriers such as health illiteracy
and poor communication play an important role on the care that is delivered by nurses and other
health care providers. In 2006 an adult literacy and life skills survey was conducted by the
Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS), information collected from the survey had shown that 59%
of the Australian adult population displayed low health literacy skills. This high figure indicates
that nearly 6 out of 10 Australians over the age of eighteen may not be able to make appropriate

and does not have as many characters that come and go through the seasons. Both of these
comedies are very similar, but yet they are so different. Both The Office and Parks and
Recreation are so unique in their own way, and are very good TV shows. I am bias towards The
Office though. I believe it is a better quality TV show. To me The Office is more humorous than

The Abolition Movement Of The 1800s
The Abolition Movement in the 1800s was a controversial time for America. There were many
who fought for the right to keep slaves, but there were also many who fought for the freedom of
slaves. People like Fredrick Douglass Anthony Burns, and works such as Uncle Tom s Cabin gave
a sense of liberty to the people who did not understand how little they had, and how restricted they
were. Many factors had key roles within this movement, each becoming important, and crucial to
the abolishment of slavery. The American Anti Slavery Societyplayed key roles in the abolition of
slavery. The Anti Slavery Society is what began the abolitionist movement. It was founded in
Philadelphia by William Lloyd Garrison, Arthur and Lewis Tappan, and a few others. This
ensemble issued the Declaration of the Anti Slavery Convention; the Declaration of the Anti
Slavery Convention announced the reasons for formation of the society and establishing its goals.
Annually, they distributed the Anti Slavery Almanac; an almanac containing poems, drawings,
essays, and other abolitionist material. This almanac would show whoever saw it the true horrors
of slavery. It would show the living conditions and strenuous labor that these people had to go
through daily, in hopes to open the eyes of those who did not realize how inhumanly these people
were treated. Fredrick Douglass is a very important man with the concept of the abolition of
slavery. He, himself was a slave who escape confinement in

How Did Napoleonic War Impact British Society
In his text A mad, bad, and dangerous people Boyd Hilton documents how the wars with
Napoleonic France impacted British society. He argues that Britain went to all out war with France
when it became apparent that Napoleon and Tsar Alexander of Russia formed an alliance at Tilsit
and that this force combined had the potential to overpower European nations such as Denmark,
Sweden, and Portugal and thus without intervention would become much more powerful than they
already were by 1807. Hilton argues that there was no alternative Britain had to go to war with
France or else the Danish navy would be under Napoleon s control. In order to prevent this from
happening, Britain launched a military naval expedition to the Baltic sea and bombarded... Show

The British army also developed significantly from its state in 1793 mainly due to their successes
against Napoleon in Europe and their focus on deploying troops across the continent rather than
having thousands of soldiers for national defence as Boyd Hilton argues the diminished fear of
invasion made it possible to reduce the home guard, and so Castlereagh was able to transfer
27,000 militiamen to the regular Army as well as raising 12,000 normal recruits. The training of
British soldiers was much more crucial to their development, disciplines were tougher but fairer,
and promotions were introduced in all infantry and cavalry positions and lower class men could
now make careers as military officers depending on their success, It was largely due to these
changes that the Army moved from the margins of society to something approaching respectability.
The highly esteemed British Royal Navy suffered great embarrassment during the War of 1812

Metaphors And Figurative Language
Literature Review
Nowadays, metaphor is considered as influential in our everyday life and its traces are not only
evident in the language but also in thought and action. The function of metaphor in language,
culture, and thought has been viewed by various disciplines (Tendahl and Gibbs, 2008). In the
discipline of linguistics, in particular, metaphor and figurative language have long been the subject
of studies from many different perspectives. From a cognitive linguistic perspective, metaphor is a
mental mapping (p. 1825) in the cognitive processes of thinking and reasoning of people in their
everyday life (Tendahl and Gibbs, 2008). As noted by Tendahl and Gibbs (2008), the last century
ended up with its revolutionary studies on metaphor, most significantly in the realm of cognitive
science. They discuss a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We can find several theories in the discipline of Linguistics including relevance theory. Relevance
theory, originally proposed by Sperber and Wilson (1986 1987), is discussed in detail by Tendahl
and Gibbs (2008). According to Tendahl and Gibbs, relevance theory complements cognitive
linguistics in defining metaphor and its functioning. As they point out, in a cognitive linguistic
perspective, people use metaphors in their language because they think metaphorically and different
language configurations are viewed as conceptual processing mechanisms (p. 1825) where an
operation of mapping the concepts in the mind of speakers occurs (Tendahl and Gibbs, 2008). In
their view, relevance theory, both by its encoding and decoding pattern of thoughtcommunication
and by its view at the intended meaning in a certain context of communication, also has a cognitive
look at language and mind, or more specifically at communication and thought. We can clearly see
such cognitive perspective in relevance theory as suggested by Sperber and Wilson

The Affirmative Of Affirmative Action Essay
Many affirmative action efforts have been made since the end of the Civil War in order to
remedy the results of hundreds of years of slavery, segregation and denial of opportunity for
groups that face discrimination. Many African Americans such as President Barack Obama,
Senator Cory Booker, the writer Toni Morrison, the literary scholar Henry Louis Gates, media
star Oprah Winfrey, and rap star Jay Z have achieved positions of power and influence in the
wider society (Giddens, Duneier, Appelbaum, Carr). However, today blacks and other minorities
are still more likely to live in poverty, be killed by the police, attend poor schools, and have
unequal economic opportunities. This object of this paper is to understand why affirmative actionis
still needed in the United State by discussing the differences between whites and racial/ethnic
minorities access to education and employment.
Racial Inequality in Educational Attainment in America Historically, African American, Latino and
Native American students were educated in wholly segregated schools whose funding rates were
several times lower than schools made up of all white students. These minority students were also
being excluded from many higher institutions (Darling Hammond). This happened until legal
segregation came to an end in the 1960s and many efforts were made to equalize school funding.
These efforts have made a substantial difference for student achievement and significantly narrowed

Preventing Child Poverty
Children born into poverty face their formative years at a greater disadvantage compared to their
peers who are in better living situations. Yoshikawa et al. (2012) found that children living in
poverty face negative consequences in regards to physical, mental, educational and academic
standards. Halpern also points out (as cited in Rutter, 1987), the unfortunate living conditions of
povertystricken parents will impact parenting skills that will present a risk rather than a benefit to
their children and their overall livelihood. The long term effects these challenges pose can
negatively impact a child s full potential to rise above the cycle of poverty.
Coming from an educational background and working in low socio economic neighborhoods, I
found that sometimes the needs of young children were overshadowed by the needs of the family
as a whole. Schools have and continue to address the needs of all children in the school setting.
However, interventions and support need to focus on the early years prior to school age where the
foundations of a child s development are formed and the least access to ... Show more content on

Action Potentials In A Giant Alga Lab Report
LAB #4: ACTION POTENTIALS IN A GIANT ALGAL CELL
Generating action potentials in a giant alga using mechanical stimulation, injury, or direct electrical
stimulation
Introduction The Chara coralline is a freshwater plant that lives in temperate zone ponds and lakes.
The intermodal segment is a single large cell which uses cytoplasmic streaming to distribute
organelles and nutrients throughout the cytoplasm which is surrounded by a large central vacuole.
Recording action potentials with intracellular microelectrodes is less complicated because Chara
cells are so large. Actin and myosin allow for the movement of intracellular materials. The Chara
coralline generates action potentials in response to deformation of the cell membrane. Then,
cytoplasmic streaming is halted via a signal that is spread by the action potential. Protein kinase is
activated due to the increase in internal calcium. The protein kinase phosphorylates myosin which
in turn inhibits its interaction with actin and terminates streaming. This allows a wound to heal
without leakage of the pressurized cytoplasmic contents.
The purpose of this lab is to examine the waveform characteristics of action potentials using
standard intracellular recording techniques. In the first set of experiments, students will use a glass
microelectrode to record from a giant algal cell. Then, students will generate an action potential in a
giant algal cell. If ion concentrations remain constant inside the cell, then the

Tesco Mission Statement Essay
Title: Vision and Mission statements are not necessary to create great organizations . Do you agree
or disagree with this
Mission and Vision
A mission statement communicates the organization s reason for being, and how it aims to serve
its key stakeholders, customers, suppliers. It defines the purpose and values of the organization. A
mission statement talks about the present leading to its future. It helps in tactical planning.
A vision statement is sometimes called a picture of your company in the future but it is so much
more than that. Vision statement is the inspiration, the framework for all strategic planning of the
organization.
Vision statement articulates dreams and hopes of business. The mission statement lays out the
organization s purpose for being, and the vision statement is ... Show more content on

Tesco s management recognize the key role that its mission, vision and strategies play in its
success and use a range of key performance indicators (KPIs) to monitor and evaluate its
performance. Tesco is one of the largest retailers in the world. This success has not come about by
chance but is the result of effective leadership and management. The setting of a clear vision is
central to Tesco s success, supported by a commitment to establishing and monitoring specific
objectives and devising strategies to ensure these are achieved.
According to some researches, since vision and mission statement effect strategic management of
the organization, the firms that have a formalized mission statement have twice the average return
on shareholders equity than those firms without a formalized mission statement. Another report
show that there are 30 percent higher return on certain financial measures between the firms use
mission statement than those firm do not have it. Therefore, we can see the necessary of vision and
mission statement for a company in model business.

When you get what you want, but not what you need
When you feel so tired, but you can t sleep
Stuck in reverse
These lines start out a song about finding what you are worth and what drives us. It s lines also
remind us about how the Great Depression took everything away from many people. Women and
foreign born people had it the hardest when the wave of unemployment started. They were the
first to go. Mothers couldn t pay for food for their children and foreigners were looked at as scum.
Women were also responsible for the families money, and they too cut costs by firing house
workers. Many racist people would not hire African Americans and Native Americans were swept

First of all, biting the dust means that someone dies. There is no direct evidence to the number of
casualties the Dust Bowl, but the number is probably around 7,000. Another reason this song
relates to the Dust Bowl is the lyrics, another one bites the dust. Many people suffered internal
damage, especially in their lungs, by the dust particles. Dust Pneumonia was caused by
breathing in the dust filled air. The dust kept building up over time, causing problems internally.
The problem was so bad that the Red Cross started handing out filters to keep the dust out. The
last thing in the song that relates to the Dust Bowl is the lyrics You took me for everything that I
had and kicked me out on my own. The dust bowl took everything from farmers like their crops,
belongings, and fertile land. Also, many people left their homes. Many people ditched
Oklahoma for California, and they were called Okies. Okies took jobs and settled in Californian s
homes. These times were justified by these lyrics: How do you think I m going to get along
without you when you re gone? The people living in California were ready to get rid of the Okies,
and the lyrics are like a person telling a Okie they can get along without

Confederate Army Morality
The Confederate Army Moral over matter? The Civil War was a fight to the death on the
principle of setting another man free. It was a brutal for year battle, Union VS Confederacy,
Yankees VS Rebels, pledging their last measure. The Civil War is one of the most famous wars in
the world. Most Civil War information focuses on the victors, the Union/Yankees. The cause of
this war began with the Compromise of 1850 which tried to maintain political balance between free
and slave states in Congress. However, the election of 1860 was the final straw, causing the
separation of the northern and southern states. The southern states seceded because they feared
Abraham Lincoln, now president, would abolish slavery thus causing the Civil War. The Civil War
began in 1861 at Fort Sumter and ended when General Robert E. Lee surrendered at Appomattox
Courthouse in 1865. While the Confederacy had undeniably talented generals, their well known
arrogance may have been the cause of their demise.
The Confederate States of America consisted of 11 total Southern states that seceded from the
Union, assuming the affairs of a separate government, convinced that their way of life, based on ...

ground. The aftermath resulted in the blackened remains of barns, mills, horses, and cattle. The
ammunition was the direct cause of pollution expansion in air and water nearby. In the deep south
disorganization spread to prairies and plains. Monocultural farms became food supplies for Union
soldiers, leaving most Confederate soldiers ill fed and ill supplied which ruined monocultural
predilections. After the Civil War the United States government spent an estimated $2.5 million
daily beginning in 1863 trying to restore former battlefields. This 4 year war heavily affected

Persuasive Essay About Healing
Healing is one of the many benefits that come with being a Christian with many other benefits as
well. Being a Christian is something many people say that they are even if they have to the idea
about it just because they might have heard about Jesus or about the Bible, but in fact, there are
many parts of the Bible that they do not know about. Many of those people are very confused about
healingand what it means to be healed. There are also many other ways to accept healing in one s
body, getting the healing and keeping the healing.
The first part of healing needs to understand the true source of sickness and death. The greatest
issue that people are faced with is that they believe it is God s Will or that it s part of a process and
this is where most people fall short of healing. People need to realize that the power is in your
tongue and that one s confession does make a difference in how life will turn out. Also, how it is
not God s will for one to be sick or to have diseases and that only Satan wants that because he is
your adversary. Another area where people fall short is when realizing the true source of the
disease and the spirit of infirmity which keeps people from becoming healed. Another way for
people to become healed is to refuse sickness that is in one s body. This includes making sure that
one confession is nothing but positive and helpful for one s life. A confession is something that
most people feel is not going to harm them when they are

Antitrust Laws And The Federal Branch Of The United States...
The role of antitrust laws has been the subject of numerous publications that have attempted to
provide a precise set of reasons and inspirations for their creation. However, there are still many
schools of thought on the subject and much debate over the effectiveness and legitimate
implementation of these laws. This paper analyzes the three main antitrust laws that the federal
branch of the United States government uses to try to restrict monopolies. This paper also looks at
antitrust laws in the modern business environment, and attempts to relay the information in a
manner that a newcomer to the subject will understand the concept as it relates to modern
technology and business practices. The findings of this paper indicate that the topic of antitrust
laws is more complex than many believe and, depending on the position of the person affected by
monopolies, the sentiment ranges widely.
Antitrust Laws The main purpose of antitrust laws is to promote competition in the markets by
preventing monopolies. They also protect consumers and other businesses from unfair business
practices and collusion among companies. The thought behind this is that consumers are hurt when
monopolies exist because they have fewer choices, the price is likely to be higher, and the services
being provided may not be very good. Turmoil in the national economy during the 1870 s and 1880
s necessitated the development of trust that would stabilize individual industries. This would later

  • 2. Similarities and Differences in Parent and Child... Children are like fingerprints, not one is the same as another. Appearance, personality, and the pace at which we develop are unique to each person. Although individuality is celebrated, new parents are often eager to pick out characteristics of their children that are similar to their own. They may notice their infant has the same vibrant, red hair as his mother or loves reading as much as his father. Such similarities and differences between a parent and a child can be caused by a variety of reasons. In this paper I will explore two broad categories, environmental factors and inherited characteristics, as the basis of these characteristic variations. Carson had a normal, natural birth with a labor time of about ten hours. He... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... With Carson, I feel I made a conscious effort to try and foster language development as much as possible even when he was an infant simply by having conversations with him during daily routines and exposing him to language. As he grew older, I encouraged him to interact with the environment by taking him to new places and engaging with him and the toys he was using. Furthermore, studies have found there is a genetic link to verbal abilities (which is also correlated with verbal intelligence). In one study it was concluded that the genetic influences on verbal intelligence become more significant over one s lifetime in explaining differences between individuals, whereas environmental factors decrease (Hoekstra, Bartels, van Leeuwen, Boomsma, 2009). Additionally, twin and adoption studies on verbal memory and fluency in early childhood (as well as adulthood) show that there are moderate to strong genetic influences (Hoekstra, Bartels, van Leeuwen, Boomsma, 2009). Similarly, one reason Carson s temperament could be parallel to my own is the concept of passive gene environment correlation. This is the idea that parents pass on genes to their child and consequently create an environment that enhances these characteristics (Price, Jaffee, 2008). A 2008 study investigating the effects of passive gene environment correlation defines it as children inheriting exposure to family environments (Price, Jaffee, 2008). For instance, if I was ... • 3. Literature Review On HIV Literature review The emergence of drug resistant strains of human immunodeficiency virus( HIV) and treatment failure can result from non adherence to antiretroviral therapy (ART). (Michel Morin;2000) Non adherences to medication is widespread among patients (Margaret A. Chesney; 2000).An estimated average rate of patient that non adhere to the antiretroviral (ARV) treatment therapy ranges from about 50 70%( Margaret A. Chesney; 2000) HIV becomes drug resistance when the ARV treatments are not adhered to. Once the patient has taken their antiretroviral (ARVs) medication then stops the HIV is able to replicate and will do so at a rapid rate. As a result mutations are very common (Jen Gorgan and Ruth Suter;2009) There can be one or more mutations that might block the working of the ARVS making them less effected or even completely ineffective. i.e. the virus will become resistant to any of the drugs and multiply. (Jen Gorgan and Ruth Suter;2009) There are many factors as to why patients do not adhere to their ARV treatment. The main factors for non adherence would appear to be patient related, this would include patients that are alcohol and substance abusers. However there are many other reasons, that could contribute, such as inconvenient dosing frequency, dietary restrictions, pill burden, side effects, area which the patient is located and patient health care provider relationships; and the system of care (Margaret A. Chesney; 2000) this factors/reasons mentioned above can be improved by clarifying treatment plans and perhaps be able to work around the patient schedule or lifestyle also the patient and their loved ones should be educated in order to understand the risks and for the to create a financial plan. Medical centers/clinics should also have support groups for the patients and should distribute pamphlets (like the ones that have added been provided by ICAS) There are HIV related stigmas and discriminations that refer to the prejudice, abuse and negativity that is shown towards people living HIV and aids.in many countries with available data, over 50%of people have been said to have shown discriminatory attitude toward people living with HIV and AIDS. These stigmas have made people living with this ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. The Nature Of The Forest The landscape is affected as well. The surface mining requires a large area. With the amount excavated the mine is constantly growing. The area which the mining takes place in is called the Boreal Forest. This forest is an ecologically diverse natural resource. The forest is a combination of woodland and wet land, and composes of about thirty percent of the Canadian land mass . The forest is changed when the companies divert rivers or drain the wet lands. The water effected from the diversion and draining is either used in the plant or pumped to another location. When the mining of the area is complete the companies plan on creating a new landscape, where wetlands once flourished there will by low lying dry hills. The forest is also effected it is cut down, and what would be replanted by a logging company, is dug up by surface mines. Once the mining is complete the soil has changed so much that the once flourishing Boreal ecosystem will be crippled for hundreds of years to come. Wildlife is some of the most effected, by the Oil Sands. The habitat of many different species is being dwindled. The wet lands that are in the Boreal forest support a breading ground for many different types of water birds. If this wetland is drained then the population of many water birds is effected. The noise and sudden presence of humans is another factor driving animals away from there once indigenous lands . Caribou, and Deer have been driven from there woodland habitat from ... By analysing both critics and advocates of Taylor s theory, we are able to gain a comprehensive insight into Taylor s contribution to the improved productivity, higher efficiency and greater consistency in the current business world. In conjunction with this, suggestions have been made that scientific managementexercises poor working conditions, dehumanizing effects and in this century is rather diminishing in importance. Today, there is increasing evidence of scientific management becoming dated as we become more focused on incorporating ideologies of modern management approaches. Chowdhury claims that, There is much truth in the saying that every living practitioner is prisoner to the ideas of a dead theorist. (2000, pp. 21). It is emphasised here how our view of theorists has dramatically changed over time and one of the reasons for this different perspective as seen in this century is discussed by Grint, Management theory, especially American management theory, has generally been construed to represent this rational development towards a more effective system over time. (1997, pp. 48). Due to gradual changes in management practices, it is evident that Taylor s theory is arguably becoming less significant. By examining Taylor s theory and its impact on business management practices today, it is evident that there are still supporters as well as increasing critics of his concept. Whilst there are indications of successful implementation of his practices in businesses today, there are also many negative facets of his theory regarding its impact on the employee. • 8. Analysis Of Alan Paton s Cry The Beloved Country In one of C.S. Lewis numerous influential books, The Weight of Glory, he states, To be a Christian means to forgive the inexcusable, because God has forgiven the inexcusable in you. Throughout life people often become angry with another person, or at a situation. Whether a person is in control of that situation or not, as a Christian, the Bible speaks of forgiving and loving others no matter the fault committed against a person. The quote by C.S. Lewis is an example of how it is inexcusable for Christians to not forgive others because God constantly forgives. While Stephen does not completely struggle with the forgivenessaspect throughout his experiences in the book, the various times he becomes angry with another character can sometimes prevent him from forgiving that person right away. In Alan Patons Crythe Beloved Country, the main character Stephen Kumalo sins against his sister Gertrude and his sons girlfriend, and this shows how Stephen struggles with controlling his anger throughout the story. Stephen Kumalo shames his sister Gertrude because he is upset, angry, and embarrassed that his family has fallen apart. After Stephen meets with Gertrude for the first time and finds out what she has been doing, he declares, You have shamed us... A liquor seller, a prostitute with a child and you do not know where it is. Your brother a priest. How could you do this to us? (Paton 61). • 9. Technolgy and Pilot s Training Flight Simulator is a great example of technology device that plays important part in pilot s training. I chose Flight Simulator because it is a good topic to be focused on. Firstly, flight simulator is a high technology machine designed to look like a cockpit of an aircraft, it has computer generated images that shows the pilot s view, the same environment as a real plane has. It has powerful structure with mechanisms that move the device in various condition. Just key in the condition you want. Rainy ? 40km/h of wind ? This device can make it. It is a device that artificially re creates cockpit like real aircraft. Basically, it is used for pilot training, aircraft design, and any other purposes. In flight simulator, you can start wherever you want, moving away from the hangar, take off landing etc. In simulator it includes real environment of a flight with same mechanism on how aircraft fly etc. INTRODUCTION/BACKGROUND Before World War 1, the first recorded flight simulator was built on 1909, the simulator was built to help pilot fly a monoplane designed by Antoinette. Antoinette is a French manufacturer of light petrol engine. Later on, Antoinette became the most important and the pioneer builder of aeroplanes. The Antoinette unit was pivoted and they need assistants outside the device so that they could roll and pitch the device. They built it using long wooden rods attached to the barrel. Romeo And Juliet Romeo and Juliet can be said to be the most famous of all Shakespearean plays; however, an audience could be confused as to whether it is a Shakespearean tragedy or a romance. A Shakespearean tragedy can be defined as an intense exploration of suffering and evil representing a steep fall from prosperity to misery, untimely death and/or a great change. Romeo and Juliet begin with a prologue, which states the plot before the story even begins where Shakespeare s displays his use of tone, plot structure and characterization. Rocky Statue Of Philadelphia Analysis The Face of Philadelphia; an Analysis on the Effects of the Rocky Statue The Rocky statue in Philadelphia, PA serves as an iconic symbol that has shaped the image of Philadelphia, while demonstrating that location influences the way people see art. The statue stands tall next to the Rocky Stairs, and plants into the minds of the people ideas of inspiration, self determination, and pride in accomplishment, which all help raise Philadelphiaup as a proud and progressing city. The part about the Rocky statue that makes it so universal is that it represents the tale of an underdog. This underdog tale not only relates to Philadelphians, but it inspires people everywhere. An interview was conducted where boxers were asked to talk about Rocky s impact on Philadelphia. Justin Sargus, a boxer in Philadelphia says The impact it has had on fighters, and what they think they can do, and endure, and the way they go about training and style is certainly still felt today. A world championship is a possibility, based from being a relative unknown . (Dinero 1) The statue gives Philadelphia something monumental to stand on and something to represent all the hardship the city has been through. The Rocky character also embraces the culture, and lifestyle of a true Philadelphian. He eats at the same restaurants, runs through the same streets, and speaks like a Philadelphia. This gives the statue a personal connection to the people of the city, one they can claim as their own. The places and stores seen in the movie are very popular tourist attractions in the city. Zeke Ferguson from Di Brunos Bros, a popular site from the movie says It is an iconic story of an underdog which I think all Philadelphians have been at, at one time or another, and it shows you can succeed in the face of overwhelming odds (Dinero 1) The city is filled with an enormous amount of diversity and just as the city and its people have been through hard times, so has Rocky. The statue also appeals to people worldwide not only because of its iconic underdog story, but because of its ability to appeal on a personal level. With the creation of new technology, there are more and more ways the media can be received and displayed for people to see everywhere they go. There are so many media sights nowadays such as Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook, as well as new magazines, commercials and other media publications made every day that allow people to connect to current events and new trends. Although today s media has the potential to have a positive or negative impact on the lives of the people, there have been many controversial debates on the impact of the media on the body dissatisfaction of young girls and adolescents. Body dissatisfaction can be described as the negative self evaluation of one s own appearance and to be more physically attractive, and is fairly common in young girls and adolescents. Approximately one hundred studies of media effects on body dissatisfaction have been conducted with the majority of these showing at least some evidence, (Ferguson, Munoz, Contreras, Velasquez). Many psychological experts and specialists have explored the effect of the media on developing female girls and adolescent body imageto conclude whether it has a significant or insignificant impact on the body image of female adolescents and young girls. Radiating above its inexorable admirer, the fluid contrast in such intoxicating amounts hypnotizes the soul permanently leaving shards of 1960. Such a piece represents the corruption embedded in history that afflicted the black community. Exploiting the rhetoricof appealing to reason, allusion, and anthesis, Dr. King stained his proclamation of civil inequality with these devices in his renowned, Letter from a Birmingham Jail . King s purposeful use of appealing to reason gave him an upper hand throughout his piece, Letter from a Birmingham Jail and established security in his statements. Taking ethos into consideration from Martin Luther King s text, we saw why he presented himself in such a formal manner. I have the honor of serving as president of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference, an organization operating in every southern state, with headquarters in Atlanta, Georgia (Paragraph 2, Letter from a Birmingham Jail ). • 17. How Does Oscar Wilde Use Humor In Oscar Wilde s The Importance of Being Earnest there are multiple types of humor. Oscar Wilde was known for being quite humorous and he shows this throughout the story. This story has grown to be very popular and has been made into countless stage productions and even three films. The Importance of being Earnest can thank its humor and hysterical tone for making it into the widely known and loved play that it is today. One type of humor that is found in The Importance of Being Earnest is inversion humor. Inversion humor is when someone goes against logical reasoning and says expressions that make little to no sense at all. In inversion humor, the end of the phrase being said is typically the opposite of what you expect to be said, and is very unpredictable. One of many instances where this type of humor is found is when Cecily says, I don t like novels that end happily. They depress me so much (Wilde, Act II P.2311). As you can see she begins with saying she does not like happy endings and then contradicts the meaning of the word happy and says that they depress her. It is rare that on campus violence takes place on the scale of what happened at Tennessee State or Virginia Tech. But, why does school violence happen? There is no single reason why students become violent. Some are copying behavior they grew up with, or saw on the streets, or in video games, movies, or TV. Sometimes, people who turn violent are victims of teasing who have hit a limit and feel like they would do anything to make it stop. They may feel isolated and rejected by their peers, or have undergone a break up with a romantic partner. The West African Regional War Essay The West Africa Regional War For observers of the West Africa regional war, the recent calm in the war torn Mano River Union (MRU) states Liberia, Sierra Leone, and Guinea has given rise to optimism. Guarded, as this optimism might be, the decrease in violence in West Africa during the second half of 2001 is an important development given the scope and intensity of fighting that gripped these states earlier in the year. While observers agree that the current absence of widespread violent conflict in the MRU is a much welcomed development, it must not mask the profound cleavages within these societies, the tenuous nature of the UN imposed peace in Sierra Leone, and the continued serious threat of renewed warfare in the region. Some remember more than others. However, a dream is always present even if you may think it is not. The curiosity of dreams is what started the popularity of dream interpretation. People wanted to know what they meant and how they were getting there which drove psychologists to go out and study them. (The DreamExperience Chapter 1) Dreams are a very complex topic because of the various meanings for their appearance. Theories vary from dream simply being apart of a biological cycle that occurs during sleep to theories, or like Sigmund Freuds who believed that there is a deeper meaning behind dreams that is driven by sexual aggression. Carl Jungs theory is also very popular because of its acceptance. Jung, in general, believed dreams had a different meaning from what the dream actually shows. Should these laws include limiting the time of day that a teenage driver can drive alone or the number of passengers permitted in the car? Also, would it be helpful to have a permit system that would give new drivers more experience before they get behind the wheel alone on their own? Are these laws beneficial /necessary for young drivers? Teenage drivers are not always following the laws that are in place that would restrict them from driving during overnight hours, using cell phones, and limiting the number of passengers they can have in the car. It would seem that one of the biggest accomplishments in a teenager s life is receiving their driver s license. It is my opinion that, obtaining a license gives a teenager freedom; a newfound sense of independence. This new independence can be very intoxicating. Teenagers drive themselves to school functions, extracurricular activities, or to work. A friend drives over to visit or to pick them up to go somewhere. It is very thrilling to know that you are not at your parent s mercy to drive you to and from school, meet friends, or to work. But with all of this new freedom comes responsibility which most sixteen year olds are not ready to handle. I understand why teenagers would want to break the law and drive before they are legally ready. Teenagers crave independence. As they grow into young adults, they feel the need to spread their wings, and move away from the nest. Driving is an important milestone that allows teenagers to transition into adulthood independently. Teenagers look forward to that independence with great anticipation, and want to drive earlier, therefore, they end up breaking laws which are there to protect the young teenager. There is a time in the teenage years, especially the ages sixteen twenty which are considered a rite of passage for many individuals who want to apply for a driver s license and legally drive the car as a licensed driver. It isn t just teens that are excited to reach that defining age; even parents are excited and motivated as well to join their kids in this exciting time of their life. The next text is from the 2nd Vatican Council called Pastoral Constitution, which focused on bringing the church into modern times. One major link includes the fight between an oppressed group and their persecutors. Whether it s the proletariat and the bourgeois in The Communist Manifesto, or the inequality of genders in The Second Sex, or the flight of the African Americans in the Letter from Birmingham Jail . In all of these texts we are shown how easy it is for one group to abuse their power and create unfair rules and regulations only imposed on the more inferior members of society. Each group of oppressor thrives off of alienating, and subjugating their inferiors. So it seems the theme of solidarity is the only way to combat this linkage of oppression. In all of the texts we are shown that through solidarity comes freedom. We see in Bonaventure, and Vatican Council II that all God wants for God s people is inclusion, and to fight for the rights of the others of the world. In the more secular texts from King, de Beauvoir, and Marx and Engels, we see the same ideas. The only way to fight prejudice is to unite the people of either side of the problem, and have them work together to make the whole of society a more inclusive place. Polygamy can also encourage the idea that women are considered objects that men can own. Eventually, this can lead to abuse and other issues that no one should ever have to deal with. These relationships will cause hatred, jealousy, depressed, and an emotional burden among the family members. Therefore, polygamous marriage is not a right thing to do. It just causes more problems, women, and children suffer from ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 37. Social Responsibility And Health Care Nursing is more than just the physical care that is delivered; it is the protection and promotion of health, the alleviation of suffering and the prevention and treatment of illness and injury (AHPRA, 2015). Workplace citizenship and its three core elements of team work, social responsibility and communication are essential in the nursing profession to develop skills and give the best nursing care that is possible, because of how these elements work individually as well as together. This essay will explore the negative and positive effects of each core element and how it affects the care that is delivered by nurses. Communication in nursing is an essential skill which allows nurses to capably deliver effective and efficient care. Nurses being providers of health care must be able to recognise and prevent barriers that may occur throughout the communication process as their job is to primarily interact with patients in a culturally diverse workplace (Dwyer, 2012). Barriers such as health illiteracy and poor communication play an important role on the care that is delivered by nurses and other health care providers. In 2006 an adult literacy and life skills survey was conducted by the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS), information collected from the survey had shown that 59% of the Australian adult population displayed low health literacy skills. This high figure indicates that nearly 6 out of 10 Australians over the age of eighteen may not be able to make appropriate ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Many factors had key roles within this movement, each becoming important, and crucial to the abolishment of slavery. The American Anti Slavery Societyplayed key roles in the abolition of slavery. The Anti Slavery Society is what began the abolitionist movement. It was founded in Philadelphia by William Lloyd Garrison, Arthur and Lewis Tappan, and a few others. The training of British soldiers was much more crucial to their development, disciplines were tougher but fairer, and promotions were introduced in all infantry and cavalry positions and lower class men could now make careers as military officers depending on their success, It was largely due to these changes that the Army moved from the margins of society to something approaching respectability. Metaphors And Figurative Language Literature Review Nowadays, metaphor is considered as influential in our everyday life and its traces are not only evident in the language but also in thought and action. The function of metaphor in language, culture, and thought has been viewed by various disciplines (Tendahl and Gibbs, 2008). In the discipline of linguistics, in particular, metaphor and figurative language have long been the subject of studies from many different perspectives. From a cognitive linguistic perspective, metaphor is a mental mapping (p. 1825) in the cognitive processes of thinking and reasoning of people in their everyday life (Tendahl and Gibbs, 2008). As noted by Tendahl and Gibbs (2008), the last century ended up with its revolutionary studies on metaphor, most significantly in the realm of cognitive science. They discuss a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... We can find several theories in the discipline of Linguistics including relevance theory. Relevance theory, originally proposed by Sperber and Wilson (1986 1987), is discussed in detail by Tendahl and Gibbs (2008). According to Tendahl and Gibbs, relevance theory complements cognitive linguistics in defining metaphor and its functioning. As they point out, in a cognitive linguistic perspective, people use metaphors in their language because they think metaphorically and different language configurations are viewed as conceptual processing mechanisms (p. 1825) where an operation of mapping the concepts in the mind of speakers occurs (Tendahl and Gibbs, 2008). In their view, relevance theory, both by its encoding and decoding pattern of thoughtcommunication and by its view at the intended meaning in a certain context of communication, also has a cognitive look at language and mind, or more specifically at communication and thought. We can clearly see such cognitive perspective in relevance theory as suggested by Sperber and Wilson ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 44. The Affirmative Of Affirmative Action Essay Many affirmative action efforts have been made since the end of the Civil War in order to remedy the results of hundreds of years of slavery, segregation and denial of opportunity for groups that face discrimination. Many African Americans such as President Barack Obama, Senator Cory Booker, the writer Toni Morrison, the literary scholar Henry Louis Gates, media star Oprah Winfrey, and rap star Jay Z have achieved positions of power and influence in the wider society (Giddens, Duneier, Appelbaum, Carr). However, today blacks and other minorities are still more likely to live in poverty, be killed by the police, attend poor schools, and have unequal economic opportunities. This object of this paper is to understand why affirmative actionis still needed in the United State by discussing the differences between whites and racial/ethnic minorities access to education and employment. Racial Inequality in Educational Attainment in America Historically, African American, Latino and Native American students were educated in wholly segregated schools whose funding rates were several times lower than schools made up of all white students. These minority students were also being excluded from many higher institutions (Darling Hammond). This happened until legal segregation came to an end in the 1960s and many efforts were made to equalize school funding. Halpern also points out (as cited in Rutter, 1987), the unfortunate living conditions of povertystricken parents will impact parenting skills that will present a risk rather than a benefit to their children and their overall livelihood. The long term effects these challenges pose can negatively impact a child s full potential to rise above the cycle of poverty. Coming from an educational background and working in low socio economic neighborhoods, I found that sometimes the needs of young children were overshadowed by the needs of the family as a whole. • 46. Action Potentials In A Giant Alga Lab Report LAB #4: ACTION POTENTIALS IN A GIANT ALGAL CELL Generating action potentials in a giant alga using mechanical stimulation, injury, or direct electrical stimulation Introduction The Chara coralline is a freshwater plant that lives in temperate zone ponds and lakes. The intermodal segment is a single large cell which uses cytoplasmic streaming to distribute organelles and nutrients throughout the cytoplasm which is surrounded by a large central vacuole. Recording action potentials with intracellular microelectrodes is less complicated because Chara cells are so large. Actin and myosin allow for the movement of intracellular materials. The Chara coralline generates action potentials in response to deformation of the cell membrane. Then, cytoplasmic streaming is halted via a signal that is spread by the action potential. Protein kinase is activated due to the increase in internal calcium. The protein kinase phosphorylates myosin which in turn inhibits its interaction with actin and terminates streaming. This allows a wound to heal without leakage of the pressurized cytoplasmic contents. The purpose of this lab is to examine the waveform characteristics of action potentials using standard intracellular recording techniques. In the first set of experiments, students will use a glass microelectrode to record from a giant algal cell. Then, students will generate an action potential in a giant algal cell. It was a brutal for year battle, Union VS Confederacy, Yankees VS Rebels, pledging their last measure. The Civil War is one of the most famous wars in the world. Most Civil War information focuses on the victors, the Union/Yankees. The cause of this war began with the Compromise of 1850 which tried to maintain political balance between free and slave states in Congress. However, the election of 1860 was the final straw, causing the separation of the northern and southern states. The southern states seceded because they feared Abraham Lincoln, now president, would abolish slavery thus causing the Civil War. The Civil War began in 1861 at Fort Sumter and ended when General Robert E. Lee surrendered at Appomattox Courthouse in 1865. Being a Christian is something many people say that they are even if they have to the idea about it just because they might have heard about Jesus or about the Bible, but in fact, there are many parts of the Bible that they do not know about. Many of those people are very confused about healingand what it means to be healed. There are also many other ways to accept healing in one s body, getting the healing and keeping the healing. The first part of healing needs to understand the true source of sickness and death. The greatest issue that people are faced with is that they believe it is God s Will or that it s part of a process and this is where most people fall short of healing. People need to realize that the power is in your tongue and that one s confession does make a difference in how life will turn out. Also, how it is not God s will for one to be sick or to have diseases and that only Satan wants that because he is your adversary. Another area where people fall short is when realizing the true source of the disease and the spirit of infirmity which keeps people from becoming healed. The role of antitrust laws has been the subject of numerous publications that have attempted to provide a precise set of reasons and inspirations for their creation. However, there are still many schools of thought on the subject and much debate over the effectiveness and legitimate implementation of these laws. This paper analyzes the three main antitrust laws that the federal branch of the United States government uses to try to restrict monopolies. This paper also looks at antitrust laws in the modern business environment, and attempts to relay the information in a manner that a newcomer to the subject will understand the concept as it relates to modern technology and business practices. The findings of this paper indicate that the topic of antitrust laws is more complex than many believe and, depending on the position of the person affected by monopolies, the sentiment ranges widely. Antitrust Laws The main purpose of antitrust laws is to promote competition in the markets by preventing monopolies. They also protect consumers and other businesses from unfair business practices and collusion among companies. The thought behind this is that consumers are hurt when monopolies exist because they have fewer choices, the price is likely to be higher, and the services being provided may not be very good.
