The Scarcity Of Water Crisis
The water crisis has been known in the world for many years now, but as time goes on people have not
realized the greater effect this has had on the world. Most people who know about the crisis do not
know the regions it affects and frankly seem to not care unless it affects them directly. The shortages
of water have led to health concerns and money problems in many countries. Both of these factors
correlate because if health problems go up so does the economic issue. India has been one of the
regions hit badly with the recent depletion of water. It has many small cities that people have never
heard about, that suffer much greater than this country as a whole. The overpopulation in India is not
helping solve the scarcity of water and with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Rural cities in India, for example in Chennai, suffer from clean and properly treated water, although
the government may be helping a little. Factual evidence states, although piped water facility in the
rural regions almost doubled in past two decades, there are still 171 million people in rural regions
who use surface water as the primary source of water (Kuberan 3). Water shortages are a far bigger
concern and if that many people suffer in small city, what about the rest of the country? Although
many rural cities do have water filter systems, the growing population is not supported by the amount
of water and they have to settle to different time zones to get water. One city may not get water until
midnight while another only gets it at 8 am. As stated in a poll, Water supply timing was the biggest
challenge faced by the majority (94%) of the people (Kuberan 3). The timings of the water can make it
harder to survive because some people may need water during the day but may only get it at night.
The lack of any water in India is a major reason that India, compared to many countries is suffering
the most.
In addition to not getting any water, India suffers from commercialization and privatization of water
companies that are trying to make more of a profit on an already low income country. Many
companies are trying to set water at price to

What Are The Four Approaches Of Cognitive Psychology
INTRODUCTION
The very concept of cognitive psychology comes from the fact that human beings receive stimuli from
the outside environment. Human beings are influenced by stimuli outside their immediate
environment. These stimuli end up influencing the behaviour an individual will display when faced
with different life events. However, these stimuli go through many processes before it could be
interpreted by the individual. The brain has to receive the information, and give some interpretations
to it. These internal processes are what cognitive psychology is all about. The assignment will focus
on the different approaches to cognitive psychology.
MAJOR APPROACHES TO UNDERSTANDING COGNITIVE PROCESSES
1. Information Processing Approach
This approach simply assumes that the human being is a processor of information just in a similar way
like the computer. Information processing approach to cognitive psychology sees the mind as an
information processors and that is possible and desirable to study the internal processes that lie
between the environmental stimuli and the response individuals give to it. This approach argues that
information made ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Human Experimental psychology simply means the act of using many experimental methods to study
human behaviour. With regard to cognitive psychology, psychologists have often made use of animals
to understand how human brains function in terms of getting information, processing it and storing it
for short term or long term purposes. Experimental psychologists could use human or animal
participants to study some topics like sensation and perception, memory, cognition, learning,
motivation, emotion, etc. all these processes are all components of cognitive psychology and in one
way or the other has something to do with human cognition. As a result, to gain more insight into how
they function, a detailed experimentation could sometimes be done into these areas through the use of
different scientific methods of

Bafa Exercise Analysis
Throughout this semester we have done two class exercises, Bafa Bafa and Team Ring Toss.
Throughout this paper, I am going to go into detail about how both of these exercises can be
incorporated into various management concepts and theories that we as humans use every day. I will
break both exercises down and elaborate on the four stages of Kolb s Model of the Learning Process,
which are the Concrete Experience (feeling), Reflective Observation (watching), Abstract
Conceptualization (thinking), and Active Experimentation (doing).
Concrete Experience The first class exercise that we did in class was Bafa Bafa Exercise, in this
exercise we were split into two groups, the Alpha and Beta culture. These groups were very different
in a plethora of ways and had completely different ways of life. I was a member of the Alpha Culture;
we were a very close knit society that had a very strong ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Abortion Thesis Essay
Printer Friendly Version
Thesis
Abortion is a totally unacceptable, cruel and unethical practice and
should be considered illegal except under some special cases and medical
circumstances that indicate a danger to the mother. Our judicial system
must consider the ethical and moral aspects of abortion as an intrinsic
part of the problem when approaching this social issue. The recent banning
of the partial birth abortion is a huge stride in the positive direction.
Introduction
Abortion is the one of the most debated social issues of this
century. The controversy as to the right that man has over the life of a
baby in the fetus and in controlling its entry into the world is a much
debated topic. Abortion ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Furthermore they argue that the
embryo cannot be treated as a human being until such a time that it is
fully developed to live outside the mother s womb. So they consider using
the abortion pill as perfectly right and acceptable method of terminating
pregnancy.
Pro Life
On the other hand we have the Pro life group, which opines that
abortion in any form to be an unacceptable and inhuman practice and nothing
short of brutal murder and infringement of the rights of the baby in the
fetus. The Pro life group views the problem from an entirely different
perspective. This group considers that life begins as soon as the baby is
conceived and hence abortion is viewed as a breach of rights of the baby.
However the group approves abortion as the last and only resort in cases of
emergency wherein the life of both the baby and the mother or at least one
of them is at stake. Abortion is also approved in cases wherein the child
is abnormal with severe birth defects.
Partial Birth abortion
This is the worst and the cruelest form of abortion. The Woman s
cervix is dilated for two days and then on the third day the Abortionist
pulls out the baby by its feet and then stabs the soft skull and sucks away
its brain using a vacuum tube. As against the strict medical grounds, which
suggested abortions for protecting the mother (due to malformation of child

Women as Objects in A Woman on a Roof Essay
Women as Objects in A Woman on a Roof
Doris Lessing s A Woman on a Roof allows us to understand how some men view woman: as mere
objects for display and possession. Lessing shows how each of the male characters reacts and deals
with rejection from a woman sunbathing on a nearby rooftop. We discover how three men s
preoccupation with sex keeps them unaware of how their advances may be unwanted and ignorant of
their action s possible consequences.
All three men share the desire to get this woman s attention. Working on a rooftop of a block of flats
in the hot, hot, sun, these men seek a diversion from the relentless heat. They whistle, yell, and wave
at a near naked woman on a rooftop nearby, but the woman pays no mind ... Show more content on

They report her movements to one another. Stanley likens her presence on her roof to a crime gotten
away with. He states that he would never let his wife do what she is doing (Lessing 857). Acting as
judge and jury, all three men seem to deny her the right to be on her roof doing as she pleases.
The woman acts as if she has managed to escape the mindless need to entertain men (Allen 200). The
woman on the roof has not offered one invitation for comment or attention, yet the men feel she has.
By being caught by their eyes was invitation enough, yet the woman ignores the men no matter what
(Lessing 858). She remains the symbol of a new age woman who disdains harassment from men.
Tom believes he is this woman s hero. Throughout the story he sees himself protecting her from
Stanley s domination (Lessing 858). He feels he is not her harasser and that she must be aware of his
love for her. His dreams of her have convinced him that meeting this woman is in his destiny. He
doesn t interpret her indifference as rejection as Stanley does and has no idea how he will suffer for it
later. Far gone into his fantasy, Tom imagines the nearby crane aiding his heroic rescue of her.
Stanley shows a hatred for this woman s remote coolness (Lessing 858). An attitude not yet displayed
by Tom and long since forgotten by Harry, his anger reveals how he has dealt with the indifference of
women before. Protected for the moment, by this lofty location, Stanley

characteristics or traits in common. But how do the definition correspond with Selling and Wolfgang

Mutual victimization is when two or people are involved in a crime then all of certain the crime goes
haywire and the others that are involved in the crime become the victim. How often have we seen this
to occur? For example the first robber get angry at the other two because they did not divide the
money correctly between them so he turn around and robs them. The final one of the five categories is
called no victimization, I really did not understand this to the fullest but I think it involves when no

The Fantasies of Don Quixote Essay
The Fantasies of Don Quixote
Don Quixote lived in a fantasy world of chivalry. Chivalry had negative and
positive effects on the lives of the people. Don Quixote emphasizes a cross section of
Spanish life, thought, and feeling at the end of chivalry. Don Quixote has been called
the best novel in the world, and it cannot be compared to any other novel. Don
Quixote has been described as that genial and just judge of imposture, folly, vanity,
affectation, and insincerity; that tragic picture of the brave man born out of his
time, too proud and too just to be of use in his age (Putnam, 15).

Don Quixote was a Spanish knight about fifty years old. His real name was Alonso Quijano. He lived
in the village of La Mancha with his neice, his house
keeper, and a handy man. He gave up hunting and taking care of his estate to satisfy
his passion of reading books of chivalry. He had a large collection of romances of
chivalry and in the end they turned his brain. His mind became weak from his
reading his many romances of chivalry (Samuel, 57). His mind became stuffed with
fantasy accounts of tournaments, knightly quests, damsels or women in distress, and
strange enchantments (Grossvogel, 89). His high spirit and his courage never failed
him, but his illusions led him into trouble. Warddropper says, Don Quixote s
madness is not the result of unrequited passion. It is the result of reading too many
books of chivalry. He is a knight gone mad from a platonic love (Warddropper,
136).
One day he decided to imitate the heroes of the books he had read and to
revive the ancient custom of knight erranty. Don believed that he had been called to
become a knight errant (Putnam, 63). Nothing would satisfy him but that he must
ride abroad on his old horse, armed with spear and helmet, a knight errant, to

Benefits And Problems Associated With Globalization
This purpose of this paper is to provide a guideline for discussion of the benefits and problems
associated with globalization. The following points will show that the idea of globalization is both
positive and negative, while providing five examples of specific net gain and net problems. The
following paper will briefly discuss each issue, provide a short summary to provide context, give a
mechanism that could assist with managing the issue, as well as identifying how each can help with
the implementation of managing the resource.
I. The Net Gains of Globalization
1) Issue: Globalization has a positive effect on the environment through the active regu lation of the
entire timber trade process.
a) Summary: When companies are regulated in the amount of timber that is ex ported, this can help to
limit the amount of deforestation.
b) Mechanism: One agency best able to assist in the management of this policy would be CITES
(Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Flo ra and Fauna).
c) Implementation: This agency is has been able to help in protection of timber re sources by including
legal documentation; this allows regulation of timber all levels of the trade. With increasing
acceptance of the need to place the international timber trade in a legal framework, CITES is an
important component of regulating the legal supply of timber. (Oldfield, S. F., 2013). The articles

Jazz Impact On American Culture Essay
Jazz has had a significant effect on American culture. It has played a significant role in defining
America s cultural capacity s and has been the catalyst of issues that have dealt with race, politics and

issues and ideologies that contributed to its cultural significance.
The origins of jazz are widely attributed to African Americans, it though however became associated

American culture. Originating in New Orleans, jazz rose to prominence during the 1920 s and
America saw the popularisation of music with the availability of market such as the gramophone and

The Grinding Gears of a Dysfunctional Economy The economy is like a watch, each gear grinds
together in order to allow the hands to rotate flawlessly. What happens if one of those gears may get
stuck? Starting in the early 1970s, middle and working class wages in America stagnated. From the
1970s to today, the average hourly wage has only risen 9 percent (Saez) while the dollar has inflated
approximately five hundred and five percent (US Inflation Calculator). These wages have continued to
stagnate as the top twenty percent wealthiest Americans have had their wages quadrupled since the
1980s (Inequality.org). This disproportionate growth of wealth in society s elite classes have left the
economy in freefall. Wealth is distributed to everyone in America, no matter what job you perform. It
is a common understanding that as a fast food worker you will earn a low minimum dollar wage and a
Chief Executive Officer will earn in the millions annually. The United States of America is a
capitalistic society, where everyone is out to make profit. Wage inequality is a great thing, it offers an
incentive for poor and middle class families to work hard to rise through the ranks of the social ladder
and into the bracket of wage earners.

Chagas Disease
Nature History of the disease Chagas disease, also known as American Trypanosomiasis, is a tropical
disease caused by the parasite Trypanosoma cruzi, transmitted to humans through contact with the
feces of an infected triatomine bug. The triatomine bug known as the kissing bug is a subspecies of the
Reduviidae family. The bug itself does not cause the disease. Through contact with the fecal matter
from the kissing bug, which is excreted near the bite wound, the parasite enters the bloodstream and
begins to develop and reproduce. Chagas disease was discovered and named after a Brazilian
physician Carlos Chagas, who discovered the disease in 1909. Chagas disease is endemic throughout

Literary And Cultural Theory During The Modern And...
Theories investigating subjectivity have dominated the field of literary and cultural theory during the
modern and postmodern period. The way we understand subjectivity effects the way we understand
the world around us, whether the subject is viewed in the Cartesian manner as a fixed entity, with a pre
existing nature that is not affected by the discourses that surround the it, or if we view the subject as
one produced in and through the forces of power available in the time period, whether they be
political, social or linguistic. The dominant model of understanding the subject up till the 20th century
has been the model provided by Descartes, one where the self is understood as being independent and
unsupported, where it is considered a private and autonomous experience deriving meaning and
substance on its own without the assistance or influence of external factors. According to Descartes
true self knowledge cannot rely on the contingent and fallible perceptual ideas that are not essential to
one s true self. During the age of Enlightenment reason and empirical knowledge were foregrounded,
and were focused upon as the most important factors in understanding the world, consequently the
individual was also emphasized as the creator of meaning. Human beings were understood as being
born with great potential, and a stable, true self that if given the right to its unrestrained expression,
could flourish and achieve anything.
Heidegger was one of the first thinkers to

Marathon Energy System
Hayley Berg, EDH2253 Assignment 2 Presentation. Energy systems in a 100 metre sprint versus a

Energy Systems
Abernathy (2013), an individuals exercise capacity is determined by how much energy the muscle cell
can produce and how quickly this energy can be made available to the contractile elements in skeletal
muscle.
Energy/adenosine triphosphate (ATP) can be metabolised from various forms of carbohydrates, fats,
and proteins (Brown, 2012).
Brown (2012), carbohydrates and fat are the primary sources of energy, with protein contributing a
minimal amount under normal conditions.
ATP is the only usable energy.

During increasing intensity, volume oxygen continues to increase until a maximal value (VO2 max),
the maximal aerobic capacity is reached.
A VO2max test involves a graded exercise test on a treadmill/bike. Beep test which is a series of
stages.
Changes to energy systems with age
Removal of lactic acid in the glycolysis system is largely impacted by blood flow and heart rate.
With age, changes to the body may result in slower heart rate as the heart muscles degenerate slightly.
Aerobic capacity depends on many factors. E.g. cardiac output, or amount of blood the heart can
pump.
Aerobic capacity is also related to an individual s lung capacity and amount of oxygen the muscles can
use (Abernethy, 2013).
An individual s maximum aerobic capacity (VO2 max), decreases about 1 percent per year after 25
(Miller, n.d.).
Measurement of aerobic/anaerobic capacity allows evaluation of individual s metabolic abilities,
indicates state of fitness and effectiveness of training programs.

Economic Development And Development Of Welfare
When discussing the origins of welfare states it is easy to make an assumption that the development of
welfare states was in direct response to social needs brought by industrialization and economic
development. In fact the early scholarship in social policy did not question the causational effect
between economic development and development of welfare states. Understanding that economic
development alone cannot sufficiently explain why some countries developed into full welfare states
while others did not prevail until the emergence of social democratic theory and its further expansions.
Based on the later studies, the economic development was a necessary cause and played the role of
creating the need and the resources for social provisions while politics was sufficient condition which
determined whether social needs would be addressed though creation of welfare state of other types of
social provisions. Looking back in history, while economic development did not invent poverty, it
change its nature by making it difficult for families to take care for the disabled, elderly, and
unemployed. More specifically, it led to a decrease in labor force participation in agriculture, rapid
spread of self regulating labor market, urbanization, destruction of traditional social protections,
commodification of labor, and the emergence of a new social category of the laboring poor dependent
on the insecure labor market. In addition to establishing the above described functional demand

Introduction Historians and scholars have been discussing what some of the most prominent and
influential events have been in history. There have been discussions about such events as the French
Revolution as being extremely important in terms of the politics of the world and democracy. Other
than that, we find that Christians have talked about how the crucifixion of Jesus Christ can be depicted
as the most important and influential event of all time. Moreover, Muslims consider the revelations

Why is the Exodus Important? The Exodus plays an important role for the Jewish community. One of
the biggest reasons is that it is something that is used as the justification for the land of Israel (Johnson
112). The Jews believe that the Exodus from Egypt was done based on a promise from God, who said
that the Jewish people would have ownership over a Promised Land, which is the area that is Israel
today. The Jewish people believe that the reason why God put them through the Exodus is because He
wanted the Jews to see His power and that He is the one who is in control of everyone s lives. For
instance, in the book of Exodus, it is written, So says God: Thus you will know that I am God (Exodus
7:17). The idea of Exodus is something that is meant to reveal a different side of God. It has to be
noted that God sent various plagues, such as the plagues of lice and the plagues of frogs. All of this
was done so that the people would know that God has a lot of power over the smallest things as well
as over all the different animals in nature. This is why he Exodus is mentioned repeatedly and it is also
something that the Jewish people tend to remember continually, as they believe that it shows how God
loved all humans and how He wants to save all humans from all kinds of problems.
Cultural Significance of Exodus The Jews remember the Exodus in their daily prayers and it is
celebrated every

For more than 15 years, we have been advocating on behalf of those at risk of exploitation. The Tronie

we have advised more than 150 countries on the solutions to protecting children around the world.
Through our Global Survivor Network, we have worked with survivors in 5 continents and in

The Human Rights Commission receives the complaint from the victim or any person on his behalf

preventing such violation. Human Rights plays a role in everyone s life, but not everyone realizes it. It
s involved in every comment you make that includes someone different. Every near discriminatory

hands with the person you love, work where you re qualified to work without your skin colour or

and mistakes. Everyday I hear comments being made about this being gay and other comments about
that being retarded. There are an estimated 1,019,729 words in the English language. What I don t
understand is why these words are chosen to describe something meagre or something that lacks
quality. Society has gotten to the point where people think it doesn t matter what they say, that they
think their comments and hate don t affect other people. Humans are often hurtful towards each other,

The Role Of Resilience In Adolescents
Children and adolescents are resilient. According to McWhirter, McWhirter, McWhirter, and
McWhirter (2013), resilience is the capacity to adapt and function successfully despite experiencing
chronic stress and adversity (p. 130). Resilience is also the ability to come back from a negative
situation and turn the adversity into something positive (Prince Embury, 2015). When adolescents are
placed in a stressful or difficult situation, they strive to make the best of it; however, there are some
adolescents who struggle to make the best of the situation they are in, which leads to risky behavior.
Family factors tend to influence resiliency as well as protective and risk factors. Family factors that

At risk youth are still capable of getting involved with school and community activities. Some
adolescents become involved with art, music, and drama so they can express themselves artistically.
Others get involved with sports because of the family like atmosphere and team building exercises.
Others become involved with local mentoring organizations like Big Brothers, Big Sisters and church
youth groups. All of these activities serve as protective factors for at risk youth, and help adolescents
develop resiliency. According to McWhirter et al (2013), the social support networks of the larger
community also help to ameliorate the effects of stress on children (p. 131). Adolescents rely on their
peers, youth leaders, coaches, and teachers to help them develop resilience. One of the risks of
depending on peers to help develop resilience is peer group pressure can be either a very powerful ally
or a formidable antagonist, dissuading or encouraging problem behavior (McWhirter et al, 2013, p.
116). As a result, it is imperative for adolescents to choose their friends wisely, especially if they come
from a difficult home background. School and community environments help adolescents develop the
skills they need to overcome their difficulties (McWhirter et al, 2013, p. 146). Schools and
communities also help adolescents develop resiliency because they provide the support they need to

Over Fishing the World Big Fish Population

Axia College of University of Phoenix
The overfishing of our world s oceans is causing a depletion of some prize fish, such as tuna and
swordfish, to the point that some scientists believe that 90% of these big fish populations have been
fished out. Jeremy Jackson of the Scripps Institute of Oceanography published a study in 2001 in
which he asserts that overfishing is more destructive than toxic pollution or degrading water quality
(University of Phoenix, 2007). Dr. Daniel Pauly, Professor and Director of the University of British
Columbia s Fisheries Centre, describes it as follow on The Overfishing.org (2007) website: The big

By putting this plan into practice, we will also resolve the other problems created by over fishing, as it
effects not only the depleted fish population, but also the animals for which those fish are food of
choice. Whales are turning to sea otters for food, rather than the sea lions and seals on which they
normally feed, as those populations also decline. Over fishing has also caused the use, as stated earlier,
of smaller mesh nets, increasing the amount of by catch that is caught in the nets. By catch is the
seabirds, dolphins, sea turtles, and even whales that are also caught in the net as they drag it in, and
are usually dumped back into the ocean, dead or dying. A drastic reduction in the amount of by catch
will subsequently occur with the reinstating of the larger mesh nets.
The management plan may cause fishermen to have to look into a second source of income for the
first five to ten years, as the most severe restrictions are put into place, giving the fish populations can
breed and repopulate, and a reassessment to be done by the scientific community charged with
monitoring the big fish groups. Governments might be forced to subsidize the industry for this initial
period, to help prevent illegal poaching by some fishermen who saw poaching as their only economic
alternative. Consumers would have to reduce their use of fish, and would have to pay more for the fish
they did purchase at the market during this period of

With online reading growing ever more popular, people no longer depend on bookstores as the only

Years ago, reading and writing novels and stories are only limited to the bookstores, the publishing

The Theme of Loneliness in I Am the King of the Castle Essay
The novel I am the King of the Castle clearly explores the themes of loneliness, sadness and
depression in its plot. All of the main characters have difficulties with relationships and end up facing
depressive moments and experiences, some insignificant but some crucial and terrifying.
Joseph Hooper (father), Edmund Hooper (son) and Charles Kingshaw are three characters showing
explicit loneliness almost throughout the whole novel. Their loneliness is shown by several reasons
and caused by a large number of factors, most involving family issues.

Hooper is a portrait of failure. His lack of action towards his son and Miss Kingshaw shows he is a
very reserved guy, but actually this is not the way he wanted to be. His fears of being rejected and
abandoned control him even though on the inside he wants to take action. He lacks confidence. We
can see his deficiency towards Edmund when instead of controling him and punishing after a fight he
thinks to himslef Perhaps I should strike him. Perhaps it is very foolish to let him get the upper hand.
Edmund, even when he feels sad, rejects intimacy with Mr Hooper when he says It is fine, I am all
right after his father questions him about his state , pushing there relationship further away. He
competes with his own son which demonstrates weakness.
Charles Kingshaw is the son of Helena Kingshaw. He has lost his father and is also not close to his
mother at all. She tries to educate him but in a very superficial way and has inability to understand
him. It even seems as if it is an obligation of her part and her life is more important than any other

Barbara Kingsolver is the author of many well written pieces of literature including The Poisonwood
Bible. This novel explores the beauty and hardships that exist in the Belgian Congo in 1959. Told by
the wife and four daughters of a fierce Baptist, Nathan Price, Kingsolver clearly captures the realities

Essay On Augustus The Aeneid
In the age of Augustus myth played a large role in Roman identity, with myths being used to justify
alliances and political activities. The search for a common mythological ancestor amongst cities or
countries offered a sense of legitimacy to the alliances that were struck because of these links. On a
smaller scale, Romans sought to find familial links that meant that they were more qualified to make a
decision, and Augustus was no exception to this. Augustus family were an old and distinguished
family, however were not patrician, and he was ashamed of the fact that his great grandfather was an
ex slave, the lowest on the social chain in Rome. In order to justify his leadership, and offer a more
glamourous family background Augustus worked hard to establish his and Julius Caesar s link to the
Prince of Troy, Aeneas. Not only that, but Augustus was focused on establishing divine familial ties, ...

Augustus wanted not only to be linked to the god Venus, the goddess of love, but also to the go Mars,
the god of war, and to the two founders of Rome itself. Romulus and Remus, the sons of the god Mars,
were related to Aeneas through their grandfather, Numitor. Numitor was the king of Alba Longa, an
ancient city which Romulus and Remus were prophesised to destroy, leading to their exposure as
children. Augustus perpetuated the myth that the city of Alba Longa was founded by Iulus Ascanius,
the son of Aeneas. Through this link in family lines, Augustus solidifies his claim that he is related to
both the gods Venus and Mars, and to two heroes of Roman mythology, Romulus the founder of

both the god of war and the goddess of love presents him as a balanced man, with the ability to be

The Negative Effects of Persistent Organic Pollutants
As newly synthesized chemicals are constantly being created, whether for pharmaceutical purposes,
agricultural growth or just for the use of commercial products, their adverse effects on the
environment, especially in remote places, are often overlooked. Such has been seen with the
production of persistent organic pollutants in the mid 1900s, a series of chemicals that were
commonly manufactured for the intended uses in agriculture, yet have been found to negatively affect
many other sectors in both nature and human health (EPA, 2009). Due to the grasshopping effect, the
past production of persistent organic pollutants in North America, Europe and Asia have contributed to
adverse health effects and biomagnification present in the Arctic regions today.
Persistent organic pollutants (POPs) are chemical substances that resist degradation and continue to
persist in the environment. Such chemicals pose a threat to humans, biodiversity and the environment
due to their ability to bio accumulate in organisms as well as biologically magnify through levels of
the food chain (UNIDO, n.d.). POPs are also classified as long range transport pollutants as they are
able to travel far distances from the source of contamination by natural means such as water, wind and
atmospheric cycles. For this reason, such pollutants are being found in the Arctic, despite these
regions not being the source of producing such chemical contaminants (Ma, et al, 2011). As listed by
the Stockholm Convention,

Sexual Violence Against Black Women
According to the 2017 National Intimate Partner and Sexual Violence survey published by the CDC
(Centers for Disease Control and Prevention), approximately 35.5% of Black women experience some
type of sexual violence in their lifetime (CDC, 2017). To understand the underlying causes of this
phenomenon, both the sexuality and general experience of Black women need to be understood in
context. It is also important to maintain an intersectional lens, as both identities of Black and woman
are important in understanding the black female experience and the violence that accompanies it
(Crenshaw, Delgado, Matsuda, Lawrence, 2018). I will posit that the high occurrence of sexual
violence against Black women stems in part from the fact that the ... Show more content on

Two prominent examples of popular artists in this position are Nicki Minaj and Cardi B. They are
important because their immense popularity has a significant impact on how Black female sexuality is

records as it stayed on the Hot 100 list for three consecutive weeks, making her the only female rapper

The Role Of Protective Factors That Are Involved With Risk...
Fourgere stated, Resilience is one of purported protective factor that has been highlighted as being of
potential importance. This was stated in regards of some protective factors that are involved with risk
factors in offenders. Protective factors are those supposedly known to relate to positive outcomes.
Protective factors are those conditions or attributes such as skills, strength, resources, supports, or
coping strategies in individuals, families, communities or larger societies that help people deal more
effectively with stressful events and mitigate or eliminate risk in families and communities. Resilience
is the capacity to recover quick from difficulties. This is a trait or characteristic that has been thought
to keep some young offenders from reoffending, Structured Assessment of Violence Risk in Youth
(SAVRY), Structured Assessment of Protective Factors for Violence Risk, and Short Term Assessment
of Risk and Treatability are some risk assessment tools that related to resilience. Resilience has been
identified as both a personal quality or characteristic, as well as a means of coping. Forensics
concluded resilience being a trait, a quality that makes one person different from another, or a
characteristic, a special quality or trait that makes a person thing, or group different from others. Both
defined show a few similarities but remained distinct depending solely on the individual and their

Black Friday Shopping Great discounts, lower prices, and many sales are things you think of when
you hear the words Black Friday . A lot of Americans find that these sales are worth it , but who
wouldn t want discounts on new items? In my opinion, Black Friday is not even worth the time and
effort. Most of the time when you enter the store you are risking getting into an altercation with very
greedy people that only think about themselves since most items are a lot cheaper. You also have to
stand in long lines just to check out which takes a lot of time. I also feel that you shouldn t cut down
on family time to go shopping. Like myself most people are trying to do Christmas shopping for
family members , but end up buying things for themselves. For the duration of Black Friday, ... Show

sometimes lower than usual. Some stores also give you incentives like gift cards if you purchase

Conformity Is The Most Popular Form Of Conformity
As Dr. Seuss once said, Be who you are and say what you feel, because those who mind don t matter
and those who matter don t mind. Through this quote, the foundation of conformity is uprooted from
its murky hovel and is disputed with. Despite, though, how many people preach these words, they still
succumb to the mind numbing effects without even realizing it, because they are not fully aware of the
causes of this topic. That is why one needs to understand the causes of conformity before preventing
the effects. The three causes of conformity include: changing how one acts to avoid the rejection of
their peers, depending on other people s opinions because they are oblivious to a certain topic, and
conforming to something based on social characteristics. Changing how one acts to fit in better with a
group, or normative conformity, is the most popular form of conformity in the world today. According
to Philip G. Zimbardo, a Professor of Psychology at Stanford University: Normative Conformity, is
when we are concerned about making a good impression in front of a group. Though we may disagree
secretly with the group opinion, we may verbally adopt the group stance so that we seem like a team
player rather than a deviant. When a child (for this purpose he or she will be called the green child ) is
excluded from the play two other children, the green child blames his/ her exclusion based on

  • 2. The Scarcity Of Water Crisis The water crisis has been known in the world for many years now, but as time goes on people have not realized the greater effect this has had on the world. Most people who know about the crisis do not know the regions it affects and frankly seem to not care unless it affects them directly. The shortages of water have led to health concerns and money problems in many countries. Both of these factors correlate because if health problems go up so does the economic issue. India has been one of the regions hit badly with the recent depletion of water. It has many small cities that people have never heard about, that suffer much greater than this country as a whole. The overpopulation in India is not helping solve the scarcity of water and with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Rural cities in India, for example in Chennai, suffer from clean and properly treated water, although the government may be helping a little. Factual evidence states, although piped water facility in the rural regions almost doubled in past two decades, there are still 171 million people in rural regions who use surface water as the primary source of water (Kuberan 3). Water shortages are a far bigger concern and if that many people suffer in small city, what about the rest of the country? Although many rural cities do have water filter systems, the growing population is not supported by the amount of water and they have to settle to different time zones to get water. One city may not get water until midnight while another only gets it at 8 am. As stated in a poll, Water supply timing was the biggest challenge faced by the majority (94%) of the people (Kuberan 3). The timings of the water can make it harder to survive because some people may need water during the day but may only get it at night. The lack of any water in India is a major reason that India, compared to many countries is suffering the most. In addition to not getting any water, India suffers from commercialization and privatization of water companies that are trying to make more of a profit on an already low income country. Many companies are trying to set water at price to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. What Are The Four Approaches Of Cognitive Psychology INTRODUCTION The very concept of cognitive psychology comes from the fact that human beings receive stimuli from the outside environment. Human beings are influenced by stimuli outside their immediate environment. These stimuli end up influencing the behaviour an individual will display when faced with different life events. However, these stimuli go through many processes before it could be interpreted by the individual. The brain has to receive the information, and give some interpretations to it. These internal processes are what cognitive psychology is all about. The assignment will focus on the different approaches to cognitive psychology. MAJOR APPROACHES TO UNDERSTANDING COGNITIVE PROCESSES 1. Information Processing Approach This approach simply assumes that the human being is a processor of information just in a similar way like the computer. Information processing approach to cognitive psychology sees the mind as an information processors and that is possible and desirable to study the internal processes that lie between the environmental stimuli and the response individuals give to it. This approach argues that information made ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Human Experimental psychology simply means the act of using many experimental methods to study human behaviour. • 4. Bafa Exercise Analysis Throughout this semester we have done two class exercises, Bafa Bafa and Team Ring Toss. Throughout this paper, I am going to go into detail about how both of these exercises can be incorporated into various management concepts and theories that we as humans use every day. I will break both exercises down and elaborate on the four stages of Kolb s Model of the Learning Process, which are the Concrete Experience (feeling), Reflective Observation (watching), Abstract Conceptualization (thinking), and Active Experimentation (doing). Concrete Experience The first class exercise that we did in class was Bafa Bafa Exercise, in this exercise we were split into two groups, the Alpha and Beta culture. These groups were very different in a plethora of ways and had completely different ways of life. I was a member of the Alpha Culture; we were a very close knit society that had a very strong ... They gained wealth by trading cards and acquiring a flush of same colored cards with a consecutive number sequence of 1 to 7, it is similar to poker when you are attempting to achieve a flush. As a member of the Alpha Culture, I was assigned as the patriarch because I was the oldest male present and it made me feel superior and very powerful. My job was to oversee the Alpha community and make sure everyone was following the rules and taking care of one another. With that being said, some of the visiting Betans were unable to follow the rules, so I had to ask my fellow Alpha males to ask them to leave, which made things very uncomfortable and stirred up a little trouble and hostility because they were unaware of what they had done ... Abortion Thesis Essay Printer Friendly Version Thesis Abortion is a totally unacceptable, cruel and unethical practice and should be considered illegal except under some special cases and medical circumstances that indicate a danger to the mother. Our judicial system must consider the ethical and moral aspects of abortion as an intrinsic part of the problem when approaching this social issue. The recent banning of the partial birth abortion is a huge stride in the positive direction. Introduction Abortion is the one of the most debated social issues of this century. The Pro life group views the problem from an entirely different perspective. • 8. Women as Objects in A Woman on a Roof Essay Women as Objects in A Woman on a Roof Doris Lessing s A Woman on a Roof allows us to understand how some men view woman: as mere objects for display and possession. Lessing shows how each of the male characters reacts and deals with rejection from a woman sunbathing on a nearby rooftop. We discover how three men s preoccupation with sex keeps them unaware of how their advances may be unwanted and ignorant of their action s possible consequences. All three men share the desire to get this woman s attention. Working on a rooftop of a block of flats in the hot, hot, sun, these men seek a diversion from the relentless heat. They whistle, yell, and wave at a near naked woman on a rooftop nearby, but the woman pays no mind ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... They report her movements to one another. Stanley likens her presence on her roof to a crime gotten away with. He states that he would never let his wife do what she is doing (Lessing 857). Acting as judge and jury, all three men seem to deny her the right to be on her roof doing as she pleases. The woman acts as if she has managed to escape the mindless need to entertain men (Allen 200). The woman on the roof has not offered one invitation for comment or attention, yet the men feel she has. By being caught by their eyes was invitation enough, yet the woman ignores the men no matter what (Lessing 858). She remains the symbol of a new age woman who disdains harassment from men. Tom believes he is this woman s hero. Throughout the story he sees himself protecting her from Stanley s domination (Lessing 858). He feels he is not her harasser and that she must be aware of his love for her. His dreams of her have convinced him that meeting this woman is in his destiny. He doesn t interpret her indifference as rejection as Stanley does and has no idea how he will suffer for it later. Far gone into his fantasy, Tom imagines the nearby crane aiding his heroic rescue of her. Stanley shows a hatred for this woman s remote coolness (Lessing 858). An attitude not yet displayed by Tom and long since forgotten by Harry, his anger reveals how he has dealt with the indifference of women before. Don Quixote was a Spanish knight about fifty years old. His real name was Alonso Quijano. He lived in the village of La Mancha with his neice, his house keeper, and a handy man. He gave up hunting and taking care of his estate to satisfy his passion of reading books of chivalry. He had a large collection of romances of chivalry and in the end they turned his brain. His mind became weak from his reading his many romances of chivalry (Samuel, 57). His mind became stuffed with fantasy accounts of tournaments, knightly quests, damsels or women in distress, and strange enchantments (Grossvogel, 89). What happens if one of those gears may get stuck? Starting in the early 1970s, middle and working class wages in America stagnated. From the 1970s to today, the average hourly wage has only risen 9 percent (Saez) while the dollar has inflated approximately five hundred and five percent (US Inflation Calculator). These wages have continued to stagnate as the top twenty percent wealthiest Americans have had their wages quadrupled since the 1980s (Inequality.org). This disproportionate growth of wealth in society s elite classes have left the economy in freefall. Wealth is distributed to everyone in America, no matter what job you perform. The way we understand subjectivity effects the way we understand the world around us, whether the subject is viewed in the Cartesian manner as a fixed entity, with a pre existing nature that is not affected by the discourses that surround the it, or if we view the subject as one produced in and through the forces of power available in the time period, whether they be political, social or linguistic. The dominant model of understanding the subject up till the 20th century has been the model provided by Descartes, one where the self is understood as being independent and unsupported, where it is considered a private and autonomous experience deriving meaning and substance on its own without the assistance or influence of external factors. According to Descartes true self knowledge cannot rely on the contingent and fallible perceptual ideas that are not essential to one s true self. During the age of Enlightenment reason and empirical knowledge were foregrounded, and were focused upon as the most important factors in understanding the world, consequently the individual was also emphasized as the creator of meaning. Human beings were understood as being born with great potential, and a stable, true self that if given the right to its unrestrained expression, could flourish and achieve anything. Economic Development And Development Of Welfare When discussing the origins of welfare states it is easy to make an assumption that the development of welfare states was in direct response to social needs brought by industrialization and economic development. In fact the early scholarship in social policy did not question the causational effect between economic development and development of welfare states. Understanding that economic development alone cannot sufficiently explain why some countries developed into full welfare states while others did not prevail until the emergence of social democratic theory and its further expansions. Based on the later studies, the economic development was a necessary cause and played the role of creating the need and the resources for social provisions while politics was sufficient condition which determined whether social needs would be addressed though creation of welfare state of other types of social provisions. Looking back in history, while economic development did not invent poverty, it change its nature by making it difficult for families to take care for the disabled, elderly, and unemployed. The Exodus plays an important role for the Jewish community. One of the biggest reasons is that it is something that is used as the justification for the land of Israel (Johnson 112). The Jews believe that the Exodus from Egypt was done based on a promise from God, who said that the Jewish people would have ownership over a Promised Land, which is the area that is Israel today. The Jewish people believe that the reason why God put them through the Exodus is because He wanted the Jews to see His power and that He is the one who is in control of everyone s lives. By putting this plan into practice, we will also resolve the other problems created by over fishing, as it effects not only the depleted fish population, but also the animals for which those fish are food of choice. Whales are turning to sea otters for food, rather than the sea lions and seals on which they normally feed, as those populations also decline. Over fishing has also caused the use, as stated earlier, of smaller mesh nets, increasing the amount of by catch that is caught in the nets. By catch is the seabirds, dolphins, sea turtles, and even whales that are also caught in the net as they drag it in, and are usually dumped back into the ocean, dead or dying. A drastic reduction in the amount of by catch will subsequently occur with the reinstating of the larger mesh nets. The management plan may cause fishermen to have to look into a second source of income for the first five to ten years, as the most severe restrictions are put into place, giving the fish populations can breed and repopulate, and a reassessment to be done by the scientific community charged with monitoring the big fish groups. His fears of being rejected and abandoned control him even though on the inside he wants to take action. He lacks confidence. We can see his deficiency towards Edmund when instead of controling him and punishing after a fight he thinks to himslef Perhaps I should strike him. Perhaps it is very foolish to let him get the upper hand. Edmund, even when he feels sad, rejects intimacy with Mr Hooper when he says It is fine, I am all right after his father questions him about his state , pushing there relationship further away. He competes with his own son which demonstrates weakness. Charles Kingshaw is the son of Helena Kingshaw. He has lost his father and is also not close to his mother at all. She tries to educate him but in a very superficial way and has inability to understand him. It even seems as if it is an obligation of her part and her life is more important than any other thing. Kingshaw hates everything at Warnings at his first impressions. His mom doesen t have any proper affection for him and dosen t even notice he hates Warnings and really suffers there. He ... • 31. Poisonwood Bible Essay Poisonwood Bible Barbara Kingsolver is the author of many well written pieces of literature including The Poisonwood Bible. This novel explores the beauty and hardships that exist in the Belgian Congo in 1959. Told by the wife and four daughters of a fierce Baptist, Nathan Price, Kingsolver clearly captures the realities this family and mission went through during their move to the Congo. The four daughters were raised in Atlanta Georgia in the 1950 s therefore entering the Congo with preconceived racial beliefs, and a very different way of life than they would soon experience. Throughout The Poisonwood Bible Kingsolver explores the importance and impact of faith, and a religion based on your own private beliefs. Orleanna Price, the ... If you do, you will have no reward from your Father in heaven, Nathan Price, is very hypocritical as he does his good deeds to be noticed, while Orleanna does them out of faith and moral righteousness. Rachel is the oldest of the four daughters, at 15 years of age, the whiny would be beauty queen who cares for naught but appearances, can think only of what she misses: the five day deodorant pads she forgot to bring, flush toilets, machine washed clothes and other things, as she says with her willful gift for malapropism, that she has taken for granted, the bible and her faith were no where near the top of her list. Her only way of surviving in the Congo was simply to not adapt at all; as she says The way I see Africa, you don t have to like it but you sure have to admit it s out there. You have your way of thinking and it has its, and never the train ye shall meet! Thi quote not only applies to her views of the Congo, but also of her views on religion. While growing up with her father, her religion was forced upon her, as for their punishment the children were sentenced to the verse , in which they were required to right out one hundred lines direct from the bible by memory. She doesn t seem to enjoy the idea of faith, but there is no doubt that she realizes it s ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 32. Essay On Augustus The Aeneid In the age of Augustus myth played a large role in Roman identity, with myths being used to justify alliances and political activities. The search for a common mythological ancestor amongst cities or countries offered a sense of legitimacy to the alliances that were struck because of these links. On a smaller scale, Romans sought to find familial links that meant that they were more qualified to make a decision, and Augustus was no exception to this. Augustus family were an old and distinguished family, however were not patrician, and he was ashamed of the fact that his great grandfather was an ex slave, the lowest on the social chain in Rome. In order to justify his leadership, and offer a more glamourous family background Augustus worked hard to establish his and Julius Caesar s link to the Prince of Troy, Aeneas. Not only that, but Augustus was focused on establishing divine familial ties, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Augustus wanted not only to be linked to the god Venus, the goddess of love, but also to the go Mars, the god of war, and to the two founders of Rome itself. Romulus and Remus, the sons of the god Mars, were related to Aeneas through their grandfather, Numitor. Numitor was the king of Alba Longa, an ancient city which Romulus and Remus were prophesised to destroy, leading to their exposure as children. Augustus perpetuated the myth that the city of Alba Longa was founded by Iulus Ascanius, the son of Aeneas. Through this link in family lines, Augustus solidifies his claim that he is related to both the gods Venus and Mars, and to two heroes of Roman mythology, Romulus the founder of Rome, and Aeneas the founder of Latium. The significance of Augustus wanting to be linked with both the god of war and the goddess of love presents him as a balanced man, with the ability to be truly impartial in wars and in ruling his ... • 33. The Negative Effects of Persistent Organic Pollutants As newly synthesized chemicals are constantly being created, whether for pharmaceutical purposes, agricultural growth or just for the use of commercial products, their adverse effects on the environment, especially in remote places, are often overlooked. Such has been seen with the production of persistent organic pollutants in the mid 1900s, a series of chemicals that were commonly manufactured for the intended uses in agriculture, yet have been found to negatively affect many other sectors in both nature and human health (EPA, 2009). Due to the grasshopping effect, the past production of persistent organic pollutants in North America, Europe and Asia have contributed to adverse health effects and biomagnification present in the Arctic regions today. Persistent organic pollutants (POPs) are chemical substances that resist degradation and continue to persist in the environment. Such chemicals pose a threat to humans, biodiversity and the environment due to their ability to bio accumulate in organisms as well as biologically magnify through levels of the food chain (UNIDO, n.d.). POPs are also classified as long range transport pollutants as they are able to travel far distances from the source of contamination by natural means such as water, wind and atmospheric cycles. For this reason, such pollutants are being found in the Arctic, despite these regions not being the source of producing such chemical contaminants (Ma, et al, 2011). As listed by the Stockholm Convention, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 34. Sexual Violence Against Black Women According to the 2017 National Intimate Partner and Sexual Violence survey published by the CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention), approximately 35.5% of Black women experience some type of sexual violence in their lifetime (CDC, 2017). To understand the underlying causes of this phenomenon, both the sexuality and general experience of Black women need to be understood in context. It is also important to maintain an intersectional lens, as both identities of Black and woman are important in understanding the black female experience and the violence that accompanies it (Crenshaw, Delgado, Matsuda, Lawrence, 2018). I will posit that the high occurrence of sexual violence against Black women stems in part from the fact that the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Two prominent examples of popular artists in this position are Nicki Minaj and Cardi B. They are important because their immense popularity has a significant impact on how Black female sexuality is viewed by mainstream audiences. To begin, Nicki Minaj is a popular rapper who emerged on the scene in 2004 and with 86.2 million followers, she is the most followed rapper on Instagram (as of April 2018). In a genre that consistently objectifies Black female bodies, Minaj attempts to assert agency in her own sexual representation, an example of which is on the left in figure 1 below. Cardi B is a more recent rapper, who broke out in 2017 with her hit single Bodak Yellow. The song broke records as it stayed on the Hot 100 list for three consecutive weeks, making her the only female rapper to do so since 1998. Similarly, to Minaj, Cardi B also attempts to assert control over her sexuality, making a poignant statement by wearing an A (á la Hester Prynne of the Scarlet Letter), pictured on the right in figure 1 ... • 36. Black Friday Research Papers Black Friday Shopping Great discounts, lower prices, and many sales are things you think of when you hear the words Black Friday . A lot of Americans find that these sales are worth it , but who wouldn t want discounts on new items? In my opinion, Black Friday is not even worth the time and effort. Most of the time when you enter the store you are risking getting into an altercation with very greedy people that only think about themselves since most items are a lot cheaper. You also have to stand in long lines just to check out which takes a lot of time. I also feel that you shouldn t cut down on family time to go shopping. Like myself most people are trying to do Christmas shopping for family members , but end up buying things for themselves. For the duration of Black Friday, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... If no one went shopping on Black Friday it wouldn t mean people would miss out on holiday time deals. Cyber Monday, which is usually the Monday following Thanksgiving, has become my preferred way to shop and is a safer, less stressful, and less time consuming way. You won t have camp outside of Walmart or any other store for hours, no altercations with people for the last TV. You can shop online from at home, although some of the deals from Black Friday might be gone, many sites offer better or different sales on Cyber Monday. During Black Friday most things are cheaper and sometimes lower than usual. Some stores also give you incentives like gift cards if you purchase something or spend a certain amount. That all sounds like something most people are interested in right? But sometimes people are mistaken. The cons of Black Friday are the large crowds, tons of people, and long lines , but if you are ok with this then Black Friday is for you. • 37. Conformity Is The Most Popular Form Of Conformity As Dr. Seuss once said, Be who you are and say what you feel, because those who mind don t matter and those who matter don t mind. Through this quote, the foundation of conformity is uprooted from its murky hovel and is disputed with. Despite, though, how many people preach these words, they still succumb to the mind numbing effects without even realizing it, because they are not fully aware of the causes of this topic. That is why one needs to understand the causes of conformity before preventing the effects. The three causes of conformity include: changing how one acts to avoid the rejection of their peers, depending on other people s opinions because they are oblivious to a certain topic, and conforming to something based on social characteristics. Changing how one acts to fit in better with a group, or normative conformity, is the most popular form of conformity in the world today. According to Philip G. Zimbardo, a Professor of Psychology at Stanford University: Normative Conformity, is when we are concerned about making a good impression in front of a group. Though we may disagree secretly with the group opinion, we may verbally adopt the group stance so that we seem like a team player rather than a deviant.
