Black Holes Lab
Black holes are celestial bodies so dense and strong that nothing can escape their pull. The idea of
black holes is generally referred to the French mathematician, Pierre Simon Laplace. In 1796, Laplace
who was studying the subject of escape velocity; this is the speed that something must be accelerated
to in order to prevent being pulled back by the gravity of a larger body. For example, to escape the
Earth s gravitational pull we must accelerate our rockets to over 11 kilometers per second. If the
rocket travels any slower then it will fall into a victim of earth gravity. If it travels any faster it will
never return. When Laplace worked on this problem he noticed a relationship between the size of the
object and its mass. Laplace noticed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For a source that was many light years always as Scorpios was, to have the amount of x ray emissions
that was detected implied that it must have been generating huge quantities of x rays. The simplest
explanation for this was if material was heated to extreme temperatures as it was being accelerated by
gravity onto a nearby object. If this would be true then the companion object had to be very small and
very dense. The next pivotal discovery come with the launch of the Unuru x ray satellite on December
12th 1970. Its given job was to map the x ray sky; the satellite found 339 sources. Some where
galaxies, some supernova remnants, but most were x ray binary stars. Here, ordinary stars stream their
material onto nearby neutron stars which gets extremely hot as it falls, therefore emitting x rays. One
of these sources however known as Cygnus X1 did not fall into this category. Neutron stars are
formed from the collapse of stars less than 3 times the mass of the Sun. From the uhuru satellite the
data, it shows that the companion to this star appeared to be live to be 5 to 8 times the mass of the Sun,
this object was too large to be a neutron

Plants are the major source of vitamin B6 for animals, yet the biosynthesis pathway and the function
of vitamin B6 in plants are not well elucidated. In this study, an Arabidopsis pyridoxine synthase gene
PDX1 was characterized and its in vivo functions were investigated. The PDX1 gene was expressed in
all plant parts examined and its expression level was not significantly regulated by abiotic stress or the
phytohormone abscisic acid. In roots, PDX1 was highly expressed in a defined region behind the root
tips that undergoes rapid cell division. The PDX1 protein was mainly associated with the plasma
membrane and endomembranes, implying a potential involvement of vitamin B6 in membrane
function. To reveal the in vivo role of PDX1, Arabidopsis insertional mutants were isolated. Strikingly,
the pdx1 knockout mutants were impaired in root growth and early seedling development. The stunted
roots resulted from both reduced cell division and elongation. Supplementation of the growth media
with pyridoxine or reintroduction of the wild type PDX1 gene into the mutants completely restored the
mutant growth, demonstrating that PDX1 is required for pyridoxine biosynthesis in planta. In addition
to the developmental defects, pdx1 mutants are hypersensitive to osmotic stress and oxidative stress.
These mutant seedlings had increased peroxidation of membrane lipids following UV treatment. Our
study establishes a

Jerome Lawrence Inherit The Wind
Jerome Lawrence who was born in 1915 and passed away in 2004, was a playwright with his partner
Robert E. Lee. Jerome Lawrence s childhood and life experiences have shaped his works. One of his
plays with Robert E. Lee was based on the famous Scopes Trial, which was the prosecution of a
teacher for teaching his class the theory of evolution. The recurring theme throughout the play Inherit
The Wind is the right to freedom of thought.
2. Historical Context
This play was created directly after the Mccarthyism era where many people were accused of being
communist in America. They viewed the McCarthy investigations as a shackling of freedom of
thought through coercion, public pressure and fear of punishment (Miller 3). The Mccarthyism era

(Lawrence 62). This is somewhat Drummonds opinion and his argument that people don t know what
to do in life and don t know what to believe, but it is up to that person to have the freedom to decide
for themselves. As the theme developed through the story Drummond would contradict the bible.
While giving another opinion regarding the bible, Drummond does not do this to discredit it or say it s
incorrect but to say there are other things that could be true such as evolution. Then why did God
plague us with the power to think?...Or does a sponge think? (Lawrence 94). The right to freedom of

Radiohead Research Paper
Exactly six months to the day before Donald Trump was elected president of the United States,
Radiohead released their eerily prescient and hypnotic ninth album, A Moon Shaped Pool, to great
fanfare. Nothing could have foretold the future more than the lyrics to the opening song, Burn the
Witch : Abandon all reason / avoid all eye contact / this is a low flying panic attack. Backed by a
repetitive and sawing string arrangement and an equally disturbing music video, it s one of the most
overtly political songs Radiohead has ever done, as well as one of their all time best. The following
track, Daydreaming is nearly as good, with vocal loops and mournful piano reminiscent of Radiohead

Each song transitions smoothly into the next one, with a prime example being the smooth transition
from the Decks Dark, a guitar driven, hooky number reminiscent of the band s OK Computer era
down to its extraterrestrial subject matter, to Desert Island Disc, a low key, Nick Drake esque acoustic
ballad. The songs all deal with the same underlying themes of heartbreak and, especially, a deep
rooted paranoia, a common subject matter in Radiohead songs. Although Radiohead were once pegged
as the preeminent doomsayers (Greene) of a generation, their characteristic paranoia is more
understandable now than ever

Natural Selection Vs Sexual Selection Essay
The matter of Natural Selection was brought forth by Charles Darwin and with that evolved the
concept of Sexual Selection. The first thing that may come to mind is male preference in females for
reproductive purposes. It is quite common when thinking about the process of Natural Selection. We
don t typically take notice of Darwin s recognition or acceptance for female choice upon mate
selection and the role it plays in our evolution. Both males and females differentiate when it comes to
parental investment. Therefore selection of the opposite sex in order to benefit their kin is a valuable
choice. We know that amongst men typically their preferences are based on physical attractiveness; so
then what drives females. In attempts to better understand what and how females make their decisions
in benefit for themselves and their offspring and how they have possibly evolved. We will look at a
variety of ideas that have been formed in the research attempted to get a better understanding of this
topic.

But other research has shown that female choice could have something to do with female resistance
rather than attraction towards males. We are aware that females select males with traits that can be of
no good but their choices are to benefit their own fertility. In contrast to this idea it has been brought
to attention that possibly sexual conflict over mating could possibly relate to the evolution of mate
selection. Males evolve in order to attract females and mate with. And then you have females who
evolve resistance instead of attraction to minimize the costs when it comes to mate selection. Certain
sexual conflicts such as parental effort, mate rates and mating duration are important in the
evolutionary systems. (Gavrilets, Goran, and Urban

Once the deaf got closed captions they could understand everything they could know what was going

The Island Of Jamaica, Jamaica
For our travel report project I chose the island of Jamaica, a place that I have been longing to visit for
quite sometime. Jamaica is an island that is a part of the Greater Antilles located 90 miles south of
Cuba and 100 miles west of Haiti. The island has an area of 4,243 square miles and a 635 mile
coastline. This beautiful island is covered in rugged mountains, with some being volcanic, and has its
highest peak on Blue Mountain at 7,401 feet! (Briney) As of July 2014 the population of Jamaica is
2,930,050 people, which is completely understandable considering its awesome climate! The island s
climate varies depending on your location on the island. On the coast the temperatures tend to be
tropical, hot and humid, but more temperate inland. The capital of the island, Kingston, has average
July high temperatures of 90 degrees Fahrenheit and January average low temperatures of 66 degrees
Fahrenheit. (Briney) The first inhabitants of Jamaica were the Arawaks who were from South
America. Later on, in 1494, Christopher Columbus was the first European to explore the island. In
1510, decedents from Spain began to settle in. After the Europeans began to settle, they brought war
and disease to the island and this greatly affected the Arawaks and eventually they died off. The
British arrived in 1655 and took Jamaica from Spain. Then, in 1670 Britain took full formal control of
Jamaica. Near the 1930s, Jamaica began to gain its independence from Britain and in 1944 it had its

Belmont Report Ethics
In examining how nanotechnology can eliminate a virus like human immunodeficiency virus (HIV)
using the method of experiments, one must consider the ethical principles before they may conduct
this investigation. This experiment involves the use of human subjects and therefore the Belmont
Report will inform ethical considerations for this study. It is important to distinguish between
biomedical and behavioral research . . . in order to know what activities ought to undergo review for
the protection of human subjects of research (The Belmont Report). A researchers first concern is not
the outcomes of the experiment but the participants safety. The Belmont Report states there are three
basic ethical principles: respect for persons, beneficence, and justice. The first ethical principle stated
by the Belmont Report is respect for persons. Respect for persons incorporates at least two ethical
convictions: first, that individuals should be treated as autonomous agents, and second, that persons
with diminished autonomy are entitled to protection (The Belmont Report). The researcher must
respect the subjects decisions and be obliged to allow them to take part of the experiment voluntarily.

are treated with the minimum amount of harm. It is possible that this experiment can have some
dangerous side effects and therefore the subject must know what they will be going through before the
procedure. Just like any experiment involving human subjects, my experiment would also have to

Cleopatra VII Philopator
Cleopatra s name has been immortalized , according to most, in history. Cleopatra VII Philopator
established herself both in and out of Egypt. While being fluent in multiple languages and having a
charming, cunning personality, she molded herself into a threat and an icon. She left a mark in history
not only by being the last ruler of Egypt. However Cleopatra was famous for her epic love story. She
was sexually accomplished, is this what sets her apart from other queens or was her intelligence and

Queen Cleopatra never had any intention of ruling with her brother and husband Ptolemy XIII. After a
hard few years for the government in Egypt they finally recovered and Cleopatra s face started
appearing alone on coins, this action broke tradition and this was the beginning of her downfall. She
started to cause trouble and she eventually had to flee after trying to start an uprising only out of spite.
She was exiled. And although for most rulers that is the end, this was not the case for Cleopatra.
Everything seemed to fall into place after her brother angered Caesar after he ordered the death of
Pompey, a powerful Roman. Cleopatra used this feud between her brother and Caesar to manipulate
Caesar into helping her to regain her throne. The main goal was to have an heir to the throne and soon
enough Cleopatra yet again got her way. He son, like mentioned before, became co ruler after the
death of her second brother in 46 B.C. In her adult life Cleopatra would have met few people she
considered her equal. To the Romans she was a stubborn, supreme exception to every rule. She
remains largely incomparable: She had plenty of predecessors, few successors. With her, the age of
empresses essentially came to an end. In two thousand years only one or two other women could be
said to have wielded unrestricted authority over so vast a realm. Cleopatra remains nearly alone at the
all male table, in possession of a hand both flush and flawed. She got a very good deal right, and one

The Abolition Movement Essay
During Europe s Age of Enlightenment (1675 1800) new philosophies on human rights and liberties
were developed. The ideas of Locke and Descartes had a revolutionary influence on politics and
society; these new concepts fueled a growing debate about the role of women in public life. These
arguments would take seed in the new nation of America, and blossom into immense social and
political change in the following decades. During the nineteenth century, American women expanded
into more public spheres by aggressively leveraging new technology and social movements. With the
dawn of America s Industrial Revolution in the 1820s, the first urban factories emerged, providing the

Child Poverty
In the United States, child poverty has been a severe issue even when the country was established.
When looking at the statistics of child poverty from the past, it is clear that there was an increasing
number of families and children living in poverty. This trend dates back to the year 2000 when 11.6
million people were living in poverty. In 2007, the number of individuals suffering from poverty rose
to 13.4 million, (Arrighi Maume, 2007). This is due to the massive economic fallout, also known as
the Great Recession. The United States lost over 7.5 million jobs and the unemployment rate doubled,
which directly impacted parents and their children, (Grusky etc., 2011). This crisis resulted in leaving
many Americans financially insecure. Even though many of the financially stable individuals suffered
a great loss, they were able to utilize their resources to navigate through the calamity and recover
whereas those who were poor faced an economic issue with greater impact. They were faced with
foreclosures, bankruptcies and mortgage felonies. Most importantly, the lives of the young children
were negatively impacted as well. The four areas that the children were affected by from the Great
Recession were: health, hunger, housing, abuse and neglect, (Wiltz 2015). In several households, there
was at least one member that suffered from malnourishment because of the inadequate food supply for
the family. On the other hand, numerous children were left to be homeless because of

Causes And Effects Of Climate Change
Climate Change
Climate change is an ever growing danger to us and the planet and the effects of it will be
catastrophic. Climate change will make the global temperatures rise which will melt the polar ice caps
putting many species at risk for extinction, it will also cause much stronger hurricanes and tornados
and other weather related problems, and the scary part is; there currently is no real marketable solution
to climate change that would not lower our living standards to what we had before the industrial
revolution. Scientists are convinced that if climate change is not stopped or at least weakened by the
year 2050, there will be no more polar ice in the north and south poles and there may be no snow in
the winter; which I find very concerning because this of course has drastic effects. I am afraid that
arctic animals like the polar bear, reindeer, arctic fox, seal, narwhal and many more will become
extinct and our great grandchildren won t be able to experience them like we were able to. Scientists
also say that the sea levels will most likely rise 4ft by the year 2100 and I know that does not sound
too bad, but trust me it is because may coastal cities and small villages located near the current sea
level will because uninhabitable for us and other land animals. This would negatively affect 100 s of
thousands of people and a lot of precious and rare ecosystems will be unfortunately destroyed.
I feel like another bad thing about climate change is the fact that the weather will change in negative
ways like making hurricanes and tornados much stronger and harder to combat which puts millions
upon millions of people s lives at risk.and will cost countries billions of dollars to repair the damages
caused by these stronger storms and if that is not enough, floods will also become a lot more common
do the rising sea levels and the increase in storms which can be deadly. I believe one of the worst
effects on the weather due to climate change is that fact that it will create more droughts due to the
high increases to the global temperatures and these droughts will have severe effects on the people
living in that area because typically when a drought is taking place, growing food is next to impossible

Media Portrayal Of Women s Sports
The media portrayal of sports has changed immensely over the years. Before, women s sports were
nonexistent and the only reports revolved solely on male athletes and their sports. Then women started
to develop their own place in the sports industry. Yet still, with the emergence of professional female
athletes in the media, coverage was still slim to none. Since the media are seen as reflecting what is
important and has prestige, especially in western society, this severe underrepresentation is seen as
creating the impression that women athletes are non existent in the sporting world or of little value
when they do exist (Bernstein, 2002, p. 417). The only reason people forget about women s sports is
because of the lack of media attention to them. When the media portrays something in a certain way or
gives it little exposure it becomes unimportant to the public. People are interested in what is
considered important and that is talked about publicly and the media controls what messages are
important enough to be shared. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
By emphasizing certain facets of female participation in sports, while ignoring others, sports media
effectively shape public agenda and influence the public s judgment about the world of sport (Weiller,
Higgs, Greenleaf, 2004, p. 15). This is evident when you look at the amount of viewership women s
sports has compared to men s. Also, when you look at the ideologies people have on female athletes
compared to males. By highlighting certain things in women s sports, it makes it look like the media is
portraying women s sports positively, but that s not technically the case. Instead, they are just
choosing what they want to show in order to receive high ratings. In doing this, they are affecting how
female athletes are seen to the public. This is reinforcing gender ideologies and characteristics in

Children Should Not Withhold Discipline From A Child
Do not withhold discipline from a child; if you strike him with a rod, he will not die. If you strike him

form of discipline if brought upon with a valid reason. Peoples opinions may very because everything
has an extent it can be taken to expressly discipline. Disciplining children has been an widely
controversial topic for many years as in the forms, the things used to discipline children, and the
extent. One of the many forms of discipline is positive discipline. Witch focuses more on encouraging
the child instead of focusing on the punishment. A parent using positive discipline might sit down with
the child and say, I know your teacher wants you to get your math paper done tonight and you don t
want to do it. What can we do to get that paper done so you ll be able to show Mrs. Smith that you got
all your homework done on time? (Morin 1). Another form of discipline is setting boundaries for your
children. Clearly stating the consequences to the child. You won t be able to use any of your

action which focuses on consequences reinforces with praise. Remember, once you get your

chooses to comply. The parent would ignore any protests. (Morin 1). All of these forms of

The first and the foremost thing that Nestle should do is to educate the audience about what wrong has
been done through television and newspaper advertisements and active communication with the
consumers through media. They can t remain conservative at this point and need to reply to media.
Only through this can they salvage their image.
Also, although they should have hired external crisis management team pretty early, but still hiring
them is a great move on the part of Nestle. They should co work with the crisis team to develop a fool
proof strategy to recover the brand image of Maggi in the minds of the Indian consumers so that as
soon as the test results are out and ban on maggi circulation is completely removed, consumers should
be as willing to buy maggi, as they were before the incident happened.

this story, there is an American soldier involved in the Vietnam war, and he experienced something he
did not want to even imagine. He explains his adventurous encounter through his vivid descriptions.
This story was told in first person point of view. You can tell because he tells you about his
experiences in the Vietnam war. In the beginning he tells us his daughter asked him if he ever killed
anybody. Being a soldier in the Vietnam war, he most likely has and he did not want his daughter to
think of him as a killer. He was a short, slender young man of about twenty. the author explained to us.

Andrew Carnegie And The Transformation Of The Steel Industry
American Economic Development
Andrew Carnegie and the Transformation of the Steel Industry
November 2014
Before Andrew Carnegie s influence in the steel industry, steel was as an expensive product. It was
used for tools and weapons, all large scale metal operations were created with cast iron. The Bessemer
process was the cheap way to produce steel. The process enabled the mass production of steel for
industrial types of usage. Essentially the process breaks down impurities in the iron by way of open
furnace extraction. This oxidizes the steel while it is run through molten metal. Steel has been
common in production since the Bessemer process was discovered and perfected in the late 1850s.
Andrew Carnegie made his fortune in the steel industry. He was one of the first to practice the vertical
integration management technique which drastically reduced his costs of production. Along with the
vertical integration his honing of the Bessemer process created somewhat of a monopoly in the area. I
say this because Edgar Thompson Steel Works provided permits for Carnegie to purchase a number of
nearby steel mills. The steel industry in the United States changed drastically from the early 1800s to
1900s; the man responsible for the mass production was Andrew Carnegie. Carnegie is one of the
wealthiest men to live on this earth; much of that wealth came from Carnegie Steel Company, later
U.S. Steel.
Prior to the application of the Bessemer process, Britain had no way of reducing

Management by Objectives
Management by Objectives
Motivating employees seems to be a challenge for managers Discuss the advantages and
disadvantages of the MBO program and provide at least one example to support your discussion.
Goal Setting Theories have evolved since the 50s and have an impressive documented literature. The
Goal Setting Theory addresses the issues that goal specificity, challenge, and feedback have on
performance (Robbins, 2009, p185). Setting goals and motivating employees are always an important
issue for a manager, however in certain cases it is difficult to make it operational. A more systematic
way to utilize goal setting is with the management by objectives program (MBO), which introduced
the system of SMART method of goals that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As an example I could refer to the Texas state government, who initiated the management by
objectives program in 1978 and ten years later analyzed the results (Lee, 1989, An Analysis of the
Implementation and Effectiveness of Management by Objectives (MBO) in Texas State Government).
As it was already mentioned beforehand this method has also its advantages and disadvantages, but let
s see which they were in this specific case.
On the whole the analysis highlighted that there was a common agreement that the main elements of
the MBO program are practiced at managerial levels. Managers pointed out that their units and
divisions became goal and result oriented, the work objectives were clearly defined and were put in
writing. There were sufficient checkpoints established and opportunities to meet with the superiors to

The Ohio Department Of Natural Resources
Introduction
Organizations that want to survive, thrive and do important and valuable work must respond
appropriately to the challenges they face (Bryson, 2011). Bryson defines strategic planning as
deliberative, disciplined approach to producing fundamental decisions and actions that shape and
guide what an organization is, does, and why (Bryson, 2001, pg.8). There are many benefits that the
Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) Division of Water Resources could gain from
strategic planning. These benefits include: o promotion of strategic thinking, acting and learning o
improved decision making o enhanced organizational effectiveness, responsiveness, and resilience o

Lastly, the report will develop an implementation plan for communicating messages to a key
stakeholder. The report s conclusion will discuss the vision of success and how the strategies could
change how the organization will look in the future.
Background
The Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) was created by the Ohio Legislature in 1949.
The Division of Water Resources (DWR) was created in 2016 and was formerly known as the
Division of Soil Water Resources (ODNR, 2016). The ODNR has many responsibilities, including
water safety and water use and conservation. In regards to water safety, the DWR manages the state s
dams and levees, including regulating the construction and repair, inspecting existing structures, and
responding to emergencies. The DWR is also responsible for flood safety. This includes building state
and local capacity to develop floodplains, reducing flood losses, and contributing to the long term
viability of communities. The DWR also handles the state s water use and conservation initiatives.
This includes collecting water well logs, characterizing and mapping ground water resources and
aquifer pollution potentials, mediating ground water use conflicts, and providing technical assistance.
As well as maintaining and distributing data on all water resources including ground water levels,
stream flow, and precipitation; registering larger water withdrawal facilities; implementing the Great
Lakes Compact;

Essay about Human Microchip Implants
As the complexity and convenience of technology increases, some of the new advancements such as
microchip implant for humans and animals can be very controversial. At first, the implants may seem
to have benefits but in the long run they will actually cause more trouble than they are worth. These
potential troublemakers are about the size of an elongated grain of rice and are injected in the skin
under the arm or hand (Feder, Zeller 15). The chip is not powered by battery and there is nothing that
can possibly leak out into the body (Posada Swafford 8). An early form of this technology was used to
monitor salmon and has been used for other wildlife research (Verhovek 5). The idea of the chips was
started from the September 11 tragedy ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Maybe the low cost has something to do with the steady rise in pet implants. Another contributing
factor to the rise in chips is that many animal shelters around the country have the chips put in the
animals when they are adopted (Verhovek 5). For example, the entire city of Los Angeles, which has
one of the highest numbers of stray pets in the nation, requires that all stray pets found must have the
microchip put in their shoulder (Lubell 13). The first animal shelter in the United States to have all
their adopted animals implanted with the chips was the Marin Humane Society in Northern California
(Verhovek 5). Contrary to common belief, the tags in the pets are not tracking devices like the ones
put in wildlife. Instead, they have a code that when scanned through a computer brings up information
about the pet, including who the owners are. However, years ago the scanner used to read the chips in
pets could not read the chip if it was made by a different company (Lubell 13). Now, universal
scanners have been implemented that read all different brands of chips. The chips in pets are not only
used here in the United States, but also in many other countries around the globe. For example, any
pet traveling to Britain and France must have a microchip (Lubell 13). Because of the rising

Innovation from the Point of View of Visual Arts

Innovation is the creation of better or more effective products, processes, services, technologies, or

Cost and Price
Economics
Discussion Questions
1. Suppose the price of coffee beans increases by $0.20 per pound. What is the effect of this raw
material price increase on the demand for roasted coffee? If one pound produces 50 cups of coffee,
would the price of a cup of coffee rising by $0.01? Explain.
Price of the product comes from the production of the goods all the way till it hits the market shelf. So
when the price of the product like coffee increases during the productivity of the product then the end
cost could increase too. Changes of the productivity can increase by changes in technology and human

For companies that lower the price it s okay for them to increase the prices wants the economy is back
to a recovery state. Consumers will not hold it against the company for increases the prices because
they know that when times get tough they will do what they can to help each customer out by
lowering the prices again.
Companies slashing prices to maintain a marker share is okay because they will do what they can to
stay ahead of the competition. Market shares are a part of the company s financial support. When
customers by the shares in a company they are investing in that company for the long haul and hoping
to make some extra money along the way. When they lower prices it draws customers to their
company name because they want to get a better deal then they possible are at the company they at.
On the flip side is that a company lowering their prices could mean that they have increased the price
because they want to get more profits. This could cause concern by customers that the company has
more room to move the price down because they have just increased it over time because they wanted
profits and might not know what the bottom price really is.

Essay on Women Don t Exist in Their Own Right in the Play
In the time `Hamlet was performed, the Elizabethan audience would not have believed in equality for
women, so the play seems far more sexist to us, the modern audience, than it ever would have to the
Elizabethans. In our lifetimes women are viewed as equals to men, women can have a job and don t
have to take orders from the men in their family. As Paul Thomas says in `Authority and Disorder in
Tudor times , `It would seem that the least dignified, that of uncomplicated submission in a brutally
male world, was a standard and sensible policy for most females for most of the time . In
Shakespearian times women were viewed only as one of two extremes, whores or virgins. Paul
Thomas talks about a bishop in Elizabethan times named ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Liz Lewis thinks this could be `because of his extraordinary genius for portraying human behaviour,
necessarily depicted the condition of women within a patriarchal system and created women
characters which in their richness, transcend the limitations of time. He did write for male
entertainment and it would be historically incorrect to regard his as a feminist.
Therefore, in order to discuss the question, we need to take it apart and consider what it actually
means. When we say `exist , what exactly do we mean? In my opinion the way the female characters,
Ophelia and Gertrude, in `Hamlet exist, is the way in which they live, the way they are viewed by
others in the play, and the way would be perceived by us, or the Elizabethan audience. We have to see
exactly who the male characters are, and the different parts they play. In addition, this essay will
attempt to discover exactly how Shakespeare used Ophelia and Gertrude for the plot, and consider if
they exist in their own right or as the title expresses, as simply `extensions of the male characters.
Gertrude and Ophelia are very feminine characters in `Hamlet , by this I mean they typify the
Elizabethan ideal of a woman, and both are condemned in some way (for being women) by the male
characters. It could be suggested from the `closet scene that Hamlet is jealous of his mother s new
husband. Liz Lewis says Gertrude `transgresses the patriarchal bounds of femininity by marrying so

Happy Ending And Inevitable Ending
The ending of a story is extremely important due to the fact that it determines whether it is
commercial or literary fiction. There are three types of endings that are significant; happy, unhappy,
and indeterminate endings. Happy endings are when the protagonist solves their problems with either
themselves or someone else. The story would usually end with a happily ever after. An unhappy
ending is usually more about reality since in real life a happy ending is hard to find. An unhappy
ending usually talks about the defeat of humans and their mistakes that they might have which would
result in troublesome outcomes. Then the indeterminate endings come into play, which doesn t have a
clear result or conclusion. The ending of a story usually determines whether the story is commercial or
literary. A story with a happy ending will more than likely fall under commercial since it s ending
wouldn t happen in reality. Unhappy endings would fall under literary seeing as the endings that it
contains are something that would happen to people in real life. Indeterminate endings can fall under
either commercial or literary due to the fact that its conclusion is unknown. However, it is not always
the case where happy endings fall under commercial and unhappy fall under literary fiction, but it is
more often for happy endings being commercial and unhappy endings to be literal. The story Civil
Peace by Chinua Achebe would fall under happy ending, but the story is literary fiction on the

A Book Came From Jellicoe Road By Melina Marchetta
My selectiveness when I have to choose something to read came from Jellicoe Road, a novel written

and my world to expand. Beforehand, I would just look for a book to read and hope to enjoy it. After
reading Jellicoe Road, I now search for books with which I can make a personal connection. In my

connections to escape my reality. The overwhelming emotions that come from reading literature are
crucial to finding the right novel. It has to make me cry, laugh, or form an attachment to the character.
I have to become both mentally and emotionally invested in the book because that causes me to

Markham goes through her own journey while another story is being told. Taylor Markham was left

Discretion-Related Validity
Essentially, there are a variation of methods to record the job relatedness and precision of a test as a
decision making device, however, a working comprehension of validation should focus on some
general types of validation. According to Heneman, Judge, and Kammeyer
Mueller (2012, p. 335)
Validity is defined as the degree to which a test measures what it is supposed to measure. All the more,
the differences among face validity, construct validity and criterion related validity are as follows:
Face Validity:
Face validity pertains to whether the test looks valid to the examinees who take it (Niche Consulting,
2017). Essentially, face validity encompasses the definition of do the people who are taking the
measure think it looks relevant ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Criterion Related Validity is the extent to which a test or questionnaire predicts some future or desired
outcome, for example work behaviour or on the job performance. This validity has obvious
importance in personnel selection, recruitment and development. Whenever possible, the statistical
evaluation of the relationship between selection measures and valued business outcomes is desirable.
This type of validation is known as criterion related validation and it can provide concrete evidence of
the accuracy of a test for predicting job performance. Criterion validation involves a statistical study
that provides hard evidence of the relationship between scores on pre employment assessments and
valued business outcomes related to job performance. The statistical evidence resulting from this
process provides a clear understanding of the ROI provided by the testing process and thus helps
document the value provided. Criterion related validation also provides support for the legal
defensibility of an assessment because it clarifies the assessment s accuracy as a decision making tool.
While criterion related validation may seem mysterious, it has much in common with two more well
known concepts that are used to help find value within business processes: six sigma and business
intelligence. Both of these methods require that data be examined in order to help clarify relations
between various process components. The resulting information can be used to help streamline
business processes and uncover meaningful relationships between various streams of data. The
creation of a feedback loop using criterion validation is really no different (Handler, 2009).Criterion
related validity is the ability of a test to make accurate

trainers try to prevent injuries by educating people on how to reduce their risk on getting injured.
Another way Athletic trainers use to prevent injuries is by advising people on the proper use of

Essay about Osteoarthritis and the Ideal Treatment
Osteoarthritis and the Ideal Treatment
Osteoarthritis, or degenerative joint disease, is a form of arthritis characterized by the breakdown of
cartilage within joints. Cartilage serves to provide cushion at the ends of bones, and when the cushion
is not sufficient, as in osteoarthritis, the bones rub together. As a result, osteoarthritis sufferers are
constantly plagued by stiff, swollen, and inflamed joints
(http://www.arthritis.org/answers/diseasecenter/oa.asp). It is a relatively common condition, with an
estimated 20 million American sufferers, most of whom are elderly

Glucosamine can be synthesized for commercial use from crab, lobster, or shrimp shells (Ghosh,
Smith, and Wells, 1992). Those with allergies to shellfish need not worry, because the allergy is to the

supplemental tablets, glucosamine is combined with sulfate or hydrochloride. The recommended
dosage is usually between 1000 and 2000 milligrams a day, and glucosamine is often taken in
conjunction with chondroitin, which is shown to enhance treatment results.
How does it work?
Glucosamine stimulates production of glycosaminoglycans and proteoglycans, the two essential
building blocks of cartilage. Advocates of the treatment say that artificially synthesized glucosamine
supplements can jumpstart glucosamine production within joints. Choindroitin is made of many of the
same molecules as glucosamine, and essentially serves the same purpose. The long lasting pain relief
and functional improvements that are reported by users of the supplement come as a result of anti
inflammatory agents, an increase in cartilage building activities, and a reduction in the enzymatic
destruction of cartilage. Along with a termination in the progression of joint damage, reversal of
damage is also highly likely. The rapid pain relief upon initiation of a glucosamine

  • 2. Black Holes Lab Black holes are celestial bodies so dense and strong that nothing can escape their pull. The idea of black holes is generally referred to the French mathematician, Pierre Simon Laplace. In 1796, Laplace who was studying the subject of escape velocity; this is the speed that something must be accelerated to in order to prevent being pulled back by the gravity of a larger body. For example, to escape the Earth s gravitational pull we must accelerate our rockets to over 11 kilometers per second. If the rocket travels any slower then it will fall into a victim of earth gravity. If it travels any faster it will never return. When Laplace worked on this problem he noticed a relationship between the size of the object and its mass. Laplace noticed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For a source that was many light years always as Scorpios was, to have the amount of x ray emissions that was detected implied that it must have been generating huge quantities of x rays. The simplest explanation for this was if material was heated to extreme temperatures as it was being accelerated by gravity onto a nearby object. If this would be true then the companion object had to be very small and very dense. The next pivotal discovery come with the launch of the Unuru x ray satellite on December 12th 1970. Its given job was to map the x ray sky; the satellite found 339 sources. Some where galaxies, some supernova remnants, but most were x ray binary stars. Here, ordinary stars stream their material onto nearby neutron stars which gets extremely hot as it falls, therefore emitting x rays. One of these sources however known as Cygnus X1 did not fall into this category. Neutron stars are formed from the collapse of stars less than 3 times the mass of the Sun. From the uhuru satellite the data, it shows that the companion to this star appeared to be live to be 5 to 8 times the mass of the Sun, this object was too large to be a neutron ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Plants are the major source of vitamin B6 for animals, yet the biosynthesis pathway and the function of vitamin B6 in plants are not well elucidated. In this study, an Arabidopsis pyridoxine synthase gene PDX1 was characterized and its in vivo functions were investigated. The PDX1 gene was expressed in all plant parts examined and its expression level was not significantly regulated by abiotic stress or the phytohormone abscisic acid. In roots, PDX1 was highly expressed in a defined region behind the root tips that undergoes rapid cell division. The PDX1 protein was mainly associated with the plasma membrane and endomembranes, implying a potential involvement of vitamin B6 in membrane function. To reveal the in vivo role of PDX1, Arabidopsis insertional mutants were isolated. Strikingly, the pdx1 knockout mutants were impaired in root growth and early seedling development. The stunted roots resulted from both reduced cell division and elongation. Supplementation of the growth media with pyridoxine or reintroduction of the wild type PDX1 gene into the mutants completely restored the mutant growth, demonstrating that PDX1 is required for pyridoxine biosynthesis in planta. In addition to the developmental defects, pdx1 mutants are hypersensitive to osmotic stress and oxidative stress.

  • 5. Jerome Lawrence Inherit The Wind Jerome Lawrence who was born in 1915 and passed away in 2004, was a playwright with his partner Robert E. Lee. Jerome Lawrence s childhood and life experiences have shaped his works. One of his plays with Robert E. Lee was based on the famous Scopes Trial, which was the prosecution of a teacher for teaching his class the theory of evolution. The recurring theme throughout the play Inherit The Wind is the right to freedom of thought. 2. Historical Context This play was created directly after the Mccarthyism era where many people were accused of being communist in America. They viewed the McCarthy investigations as a shackling of freedom of thought through coercion, public pressure and fear of punishment (Miller 3). The Mccarthyism era started ... This is somewhat Drummonds opinion and his argument that people don t know what to do in life and don t know what to believe, but it is up to that person to have the freedom to decide for themselves. As the theme developed through the story Drummond would contradict the bible. While giving another opinion regarding the bible, Drummond does not do this to discredit it or say it s incorrect but to say there are other things that could be true such as evolution. Then why did God plague us with the power to think?...Or does a sponge think? (Lawrence 94). • 6. Radiohead Research Paper Exactly six months to the day before Donald Trump was elected president of the United States, Radiohead released their eerily prescient and hypnotic ninth album, A Moon Shaped Pool, to great fanfare. Nothing could have foretold the future more than the lyrics to the opening song, Burn the Witch : Abandon all reason / avoid all eye contact / this is a low flying panic attack. Backed by a repetitive and sawing string arrangement and an equally disturbing music video, it s one of the most overtly political songs Radiohead has ever done, as well as one of their all time best. The following track, Daydreaming is nearly as good, with vocal loops and mournful piano reminiscent of Radiohead s very best work from 2000 s Kid A. The final minute ... Each song transitions smoothly into the next one, with a prime example being the smooth transition from the Decks Dark, a guitar driven, hooky number reminiscent of the band s OK Computer era down to its extraterrestrial subject matter, to Desert Island Disc, a low key, Nick Drake esque acoustic ballad. The songs all deal with the same underlying themes of heartbreak and, especially, a deep rooted paranoia, a common subject matter in Radiohead songs. • 7. Natural Selection Vs Sexual Selection Essay The matter of Natural Selection was brought forth by Charles Darwin and with that evolved the concept of Sexual Selection. The first thing that may come to mind is male preference in females for reproductive purposes. It is quite common when thinking about the process of Natural Selection. We don t typically take notice of Darwin s recognition or acceptance for female choice upon mate selection and the role it plays in our evolution. Both males and females differentiate when it comes to parental investment. Therefore selection of the opposite sex in order to benefit their kin is a valuable choice. We know that amongst men typically their preferences are based on physical attractiveness; so then what drives females. In attempts to better understand what and how females make their decisions in benefit for themselves and their offspring and how they have possibly evolved. We will look at a variety of ideas that have been formed in the research attempted to get a better understanding of this topic. Natural Selection and Sexual Selection Darwin brought forward two ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... But other research has shown that female choice could have something to do with female resistance rather than attraction towards males. We are aware that females select males with traits that can be of no good but their choices are to benefit their own fertility. In contrast to this idea it has been brought to attention that possibly sexual conflict over mating could possibly relate to the evolution of mate selection. Males evolve in order to attract females and mate with. And then you have females who evolve resistance instead of attraction to minimize the costs when it comes to mate selection. Certain sexual conflicts such as parental effort, mate rates and mating duration are important in the evolutionary systems. (Gavrilets, Goran, and Urban ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Jamaica is an island that is a part of the Greater Antilles located 90 miles south of Cuba and 100 miles west of Haiti. The island has an area of 4,243 square miles and a 635 mile coastline. This beautiful island is covered in rugged mountains, with some being volcanic, and has its highest peak on Blue Mountain at 7,401 feet! (Briney) As of July 2014 the population of Jamaica is 2,930,050 people, which is completely understandable considering its awesome climate! The island s climate varies depending on your location on the island. On the coast the temperatures tend to be tropical, hot and humid, but more temperate inland. The capital of the island, Kingston, has average July high temperatures of 90 degrees Fahrenheit and January average low temperatures of 66 degrees Fahrenheit. (Briney) The first inhabitants of Jamaica were the Arawaks who were from South America. Later on, in 1494, Christopher Columbus was the first European to explore the island. In 1510, decedents from Spain began to settle in. After the Europeans began to settle, they brought war and disease to the island and this greatly affected the Arawaks and eventually they died off. The British arrived in 1655 and took Jamaica from Spain. Then, in 1670 Britain took full formal control of Jamaica. After a hard few years for the government in Egypt they finally recovered and Cleopatra s face started appearing alone on coins, this action broke tradition and this was the beginning of her downfall. And although for most rulers that is the end, this was not the case for Cleopatra. Everything seemed to fall into place after her brother angered Caesar after he ordered the death of Pompey, a powerful Roman. When looking at the statistics of child poverty from the past, it is clear that there was an increasing number of families and children living in poverty. This trend dates back to the year 2000 when 11.6 million people were living in poverty. In 2007, the number of individuals suffering from poverty rose to 13.4 million, (Arrighi Maume, 2007). This is due to the massive economic fallout, also known as the Great Recession. The United States lost over 7.5 million jobs and the unemployment rate doubled, which directly impacted parents and their children, (Grusky etc., 2011). This crisis resulted in leaving many Americans financially insecure. Even though many of the financially stable individuals suffered a great loss, they were able to utilize their resources to navigate through the calamity and recover whereas those who were poor faced an economic issue with greater impact. They were faced with foreclosures, bankruptcies and mortgage felonies. Most importantly, the lives of the young children were negatively impacted as well. The four areas that the children were affected by from the Great Recession were: health, hunger, housing, abuse and neglect, (Wiltz 2015). • 17. Causes And Effects Of Climate Change Climate Change Climate change is an ever growing danger to us and the planet and the effects of it will be catastrophic. Climate change will make the global temperatures rise which will melt the polar ice caps putting many species at risk for extinction, it will also cause much stronger hurricanes and tornados and other weather related problems, and the scary part is; there currently is no real marketable solution to climate change that would not lower our living standards to what we had before the industrial revolution. Scientists are convinced that if climate change is not stopped or at least weakened by the year 2050, there will be no more polar ice in the north and south poles and there may be no snow in the winter; which I find very concerning because this of course has drastic effects. I am afraid that arctic animals like the polar bear, reindeer, arctic fox, seal, narwhal and many more will become extinct and our great grandchildren won t be able to experience them like we were able to. Scientists also say that the sea levels will most likely rise 4ft by the year 2100 and I know that does not sound too bad, but trust me it is because may coastal cities and small villages located near the current sea level will because uninhabitable for us and other land animals. This would negatively affect 100 s of thousands of people and a lot of precious and rare ecosystems will be unfortunately destroyed. I feel like another bad thing about climate change is the fact that the weather will change in negative ways like making hurricanes and tornados much stronger and harder to combat which puts millions upon millions of people s lives at risk.and will cost countries billions of dollars to repair the damages caused by these stronger storms and if that is not enough, floods will also become a lot more common do the rising sea levels and the increase in storms which can be deadly. I believe one of the worst effects on the weather due to climate change is that fact that it will create more droughts due to the high increases to the global temperatures and these droughts will have severe effects on the people living in that area because typically when a drought is taking place, growing food is next to impossible which ... Before, women s sports were nonexistent and the only reports revolved solely on male athletes and their sports. Then women started to develop their own place in the sports industry. Yet still, with the emergence of professional female athletes in the media, coverage was still slim to none. Since the media are seen as reflecting what is important and has prestige, especially in western society, this severe underrepresentation is seen as creating the impression that women athletes are non existent in the sporting world or of little value when they do exist (Bernstein, 2002, p. 417). The only reason people forget about women s sports is because of the lack of media attention to them. Andrew Carnegie And The Transformation Of The Steel Industry American Economic Development Andrew Carnegie and the Transformation of the Steel Industry November 2014 Before Andrew Carnegie s influence in the steel industry, steel was as an expensive product. It was used for tools and weapons, all large scale metal operations were created with cast iron. The Bessemer process was the cheap way to produce steel. The process enabled the mass production of steel for industrial types of usage. Essentially the process breaks down impurities in the iron by way of open furnace extraction. This oxidizes the steel while it is run through molten metal. Steel has been common in production since the Bessemer process was discovered and perfected in the late 1850s. Andrew Carnegie made his fortune in the steel industry. He was one of the first to practice the vertical integration management technique which drastically reduced his costs of production. Along with the vertical integration his honing of the Bessemer process created somewhat of a monopoly in the area. I say this because Edgar Thompson Steel Works provided permits for Carnegie to purchase a number of nearby steel mills. • 31. Essay on Women Don t Exist in Their Own Right in the Play In the time `Hamlet was performed, the Elizabethan audience would not have believed in equality for women, so the play seems far more sexist to us, the modern audience, than it ever would have to the Elizabethans. In our lifetimes women are viewed as equals to men, women can have a job and don t have to take orders from the men in their family. As Paul Thomas says in `Authority and Disorder in Tudor times , `It would seem that the least dignified, that of uncomplicated submission in a brutally male world, was a standard and sensible policy for most females for most of the time . In Shakespearian times women were viewed only as one of two extremes, whores or virgins. Paul Thomas talks about a bishop in Elizabethan times named ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Liz Lewis thinks this could be `because of his extraordinary genius for portraying human behaviour, necessarily depicted the condition of women within a patriarchal system and created women characters which in their richness, transcend the limitations of time. He did write for male entertainment and it would be historically incorrect to regard his as a feminist. Therefore, in order to discuss the question, we need to take it apart and consider what it actually means. When we say `exist , what exactly do we mean? In my opinion the way the female characters, Ophelia and Gertrude, in `Hamlet exist, is the way in which they live, the way they are viewed by others in the play, and the way would be perceived by us, or the Elizabethan audience. We have to see exactly who the male characters are, and the different parts they play. In addition, this essay will attempt to discover exactly how Shakespeare used Ophelia and Gertrude for the plot, and consider if they exist in their own right or as the title expresses, as simply `extensions of the male characters. Gertrude and Ophelia are very feminine characters in `Hamlet , by this I mean they typify the Elizabethan ideal of a woman, and both are condemned in some way (for being women) by the male characters. It could be suggested from the `closet scene that Hamlet is jealous of his mother s new husband. Liz Lewis says Gertrude `transgresses the patriarchal bounds of femininity by marrying so soon ... • 32. Happy Ending And Inevitable Ending The ending of a story is extremely important due to the fact that it determines whether it is commercial or literary fiction. There are three types of endings that are significant; happy, unhappy, and indeterminate endings. Happy endings are when the protagonist solves their problems with either themselves or someone else. The story would usually end with a happily ever after. An unhappy ending is usually more about reality since in real life a happy ending is hard to find. An unhappy ending usually talks about the defeat of humans and their mistakes that they might have which would result in troublesome outcomes. Then the indeterminate endings come into play, which doesn t have a clear result or conclusion. The ending of a story usually determines whether the story is commercial or literary. A story with a happy ending will more than likely fall under commercial since it s ending wouldn t happen in reality. Unhappy endings would fall under literary seeing as the endings that it contains are something that would happen to people in real life. Indeterminate endings can fall under either commercial or literary due to the fact that its conclusion is unknown. However, it is not always the case where happy endings fall under commercial and unhappy fall under literary fiction, but it is more often for happy endings being commercial and unhappy endings to be literal. The story Civil Peace by Chinua Achebe would fall under happy ending, but the story is literary fiction on the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Discretion-Related Validity Essentially, there are a variation of methods to record the job relatedness and precision of a test as a decision making device, however, a working comprehension of validation should focus on some general types of validation. According to Heneman, Judge, and Kammeyer Mueller (2012, p. 335) Validity is defined as the degree to which a test measures what it is supposed to measure. All the more, the differences among face validity, construct validity and criterion related validity are as follows: Face Validity: Face validity pertains to whether the test looks valid to the examinees who take it (Niche Consulting, 2017). This validity has obvious importance in personnel selection, recruitment and development. Whenever possible, the statistical evaluation of the relationship between selection measures and valued business outcomes is desirable. This type of validation is known as criterion related validation and it can provide concrete evidence of the accuracy of a test for predicting job performance. Criterion validation involves a statistical study that provides hard evidence of the relationship between scores on pre employment assessments and valued business outcomes related to job performance. The statistical evidence resulting from this process provides a clear understanding of the ROI provided by the testing process and thus helps document the value provided. Criterion related validation also provides support for the legal defensibility of an assessment because it clarifies the assessment s accuracy as a decision making tool. While criterion related validation may seem mysterious, it has much in common with two more well known concepts that are used to help find value within business processes: six sigma and business intelligence. Both of these methods require that data be examined in order to help clarify relations between various process components. The resulting information can be used to help streamline business processes and uncover meaningful relationships between various streams of data. The creation of a feedback loop using criterion validation is really no different (Handler, 2009).Criterion related validity is the ability of a test to make accurate ... • 40. Essay about Osteoarthritis and the Ideal Treatment Osteoarthritis and the Ideal Treatment Osteoarthritis, or degenerative joint disease, is a form of arthritis characterized by the breakdown of cartilage within joints. Cartilage serves to provide cushion at the ends of bones, and when the cushion is not sufficient, as in osteoarthritis, the bones rub together. As a result, osteoarthritis sufferers are constantly plagued by stiff, swollen, and inflamed joints (http://www.arthritis.org/answers/diseasecenter/oa.asp). It is a relatively common condition, with an estimated 20 million American sufferers, most of whom are elderly (http://webmd.lycos.com/content/article/1668.50297). In the making of the supplemental tablets, glucosamine is combined with sulfate or hydrochloride. The recommended dosage is usually between 1000 and 2000 milligrams a day, and glucosamine is often taken in conjunction with chondroitin, which is shown to enhance treatment results. (http://webmd.lycos.com/content/article/1677.57489). How does it work? Glucosamine stimulates production of glycosaminoglycans and proteoglycans, the two essential building blocks of cartilage. Advocates of the treatment say that artificially synthesized glucosamine supplements can jumpstart glucosamine production within joints. Choindroitin is made of many of the same molecules as glucosamine, and essentially serves the same purpose. The long lasting pain relief and functional improvements that are reported by users of the supplement come as a result of anti inflammatory agents, an increase in cartilage building activities, and a reduction in the enzymatic destruction of cartilage. Along with a termination in the progression of joint damage, reversal of damage is also highly likely. The rapid pain relief upon initiation of a glucosamine ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
