The Wicker Man Essay
Filled with mystery and thriller, The Wicker Man is one of the strangest yet interesting films out
there. In the film, the story takes place on a small private island off of Washington where Nicholas
Cage s character, Edward Malus, is looking for his daughter who had vanished. It is filled with
twists and turns throughout the film, making it interesting and entertaining. I felt as if the film was
well made and had a different storyboard compared to traditional thriller mysteries.
Edward Malus, a police man in Washington, has been experiencing strange dreams and
hallucinations since a car crash occurred after he had pulled a woman and her daughter over. He
later receives a letter from his ex fiancГ©, Willow, telling him that her daughter, Rowan, (later
finding she was his child) has gone missing and asks him for his help to find her. After arriving to
the small secluded island, he meets some of the local residents and starts to have bad feelings about
whole community, especially when they were not being helpful. Malus finds clues on what could
of possible happened to their daughter Rowan throughout the film and coming to the conclusion
and the town is doing human sacrifices, Rowan about to become one. At the end, he finds Rowan
and finds out that he was tricked to come to the island to become a ... Show more content on

Throughout the movie there was no background music that related with the mode of the movie or
certain scenes. The lighting in the movie was what I would say a shadow, neither dark nor bright,
but a good in between that set the mode of the movies thriller mystery. The tone and mode is well
represented in the film with the combination of having no background music and having a good
lighting set. If the film had background music or different lighting portrayed in it, it would have
affected the tone and mode of the movie, giving it a completely different

Star Trek Comparison
May the force be with you, I have a bad feeling about this, and Live long and Prosper are three
quotes from two major media franchises. Since their inception these two franchises have
changed or shaped our imagination and future. They are Star Wars and Star Trek, both have
similarities but even more differences that will be found in the general ideas, background info,
and impacts of real life. From a first look the two are the same however when looked at closer
there general ideas are seen to be quite different when not generalized. This can be seen with the
plots, which can seem like both are about some space futuristic combat. However Star Warsis a
series of events in a galaxy at war, either in formal or secretive conflict, where... Show more content

The first difference is the background history, Star Wars takes place in a distant universe in a
galaxy far far away. That has its own cultures and ideologies based on a mixture of our own.
While on the other spectrum Star Trek is a more realistic future in which the earth has expanded
into space with other galactic civilizations to create a space federation to protect themselves
from other united galactic civilizations, while also exploring the unknown. From that other
background comes knowledge and mystics. The big difference here is that Star Wars has a
mystic knowledge that is held by the Jedi and Sith who have protected the galaxy since the
beginning, but in Star Trek all of the knowledge comes from learning, and has no true mysticism
in it. Just following facts and common knowledge to do what needs to be done. Putting the
knowledge and histories difference together that also influences the tools that both franchises
use. Like Star War s history being created from all of the history its tools is also more imaginary
being Lightsabers weapons, planet destroying Deathstars, and Hyperspace transportation. In
reverse like the basis of a futuristic history Star Treks is based on what is possible to come like
Transporters, phasers, and warp drives. Which have a more realistic thought of what could be
created, and with what could possible happen what are the differences in the real life portion of the

My College Experience
Well my first semester of college is nearly about to wrap up and I gained a ton of new knowledge
that will last me a life time. It was just seven months ago that I graduated high school after
twelve long years of public school. Now, it s been seven months officially being on my own and
being an adult where I need to take on new responsibilities in my life. There have been new
obstacles, new strategies to overcome those obstacles, and new outcomes to these challenges.
When one door closes another door opens. With changes in life, new challenges await. One
challenge that I came across when I first moved out was the fact that I was still a child and not
ready for major reasonability s. I would just be a selfish person in many aspects when it came to
myself. I would have a problem with giving up my paycheck to pay for my car and rent. I would
have an issue with giving up my video game time and I would have an issue with giving up my me
time. I was just asking myself, why me? Why do I have to deal with all these responsibilities?
Then, college came in august and pushed my new responsibilities to the limit for me. I started to
skip some of my classes because I had to work, and I felt like I couldn t have time for myself. I felt
like in life you should be able to live life and have fun. Although, it became clear that life was
knocking on my door and I had to make a change. My challenge was to see if I could finally take
personal responsibilityin my life for

Teaching Assistant Essay
The traditional classroom, staffed by a single teacher is rapidly disappearing in schools across the
UK. (Wilson et al, 2003, cited in Parker, 2009)
Teaching Assistants
There are many titles currently in use to describe the role of a teaching assistant, such as:
classroom assistant (Lee and Mawson, 1998), learning support assistant (Farrell et al., 2000),
teaching aides (Hall et al., 1995), para educators (French and Chopra, 1999) and auxiliary support
(McGarvey et al., 1996). In the past, teaching assistants (TAs) were appointed as and when
needed in an informal manner. For example, if a need arose to support a student with special
educational needs (SEN), or if a bit of extra cash came to the school then a teaching assistant would
be employed. However, it is now widely recognised that a teaching assistant post should be properly
advertised (Watkinson, 2010). There has been a noticeable growth of teaching assistants over the
years; according to the Department for Education (2014), there has been an increase of 4.9%
between 2012 and 2013. In line with this, there is now notably a need for job descriptions and
recognition of the successful candidate as becoming a full member of the school staff.
The changing role of a teaching assistant
The role of a teaching assistant has dramatically changed over the years and continues to do so.
There are both arguments in support of the use of teaching assistant and against. An example of this
is Blatchford et al. (2006) who reported

The Time Paradox By Philip Zimbardo And John Boyd
The Time Paradox by Philip Zimbardo and John Boyd covers two main subjects, time and one s
life, and how one can strengthen the relationship between both to overall live a better life. With
thirty plus years of research Philip G. Zimbardo and John Boyd have discovered new methods to
help one live a meaningful life through the use of timemanagement. To understand ones time
management the individual will better understand themselves, it will also assist the individual to
better their lives and help them move forward. Time is constantly moving so to utilize time
management means one can take hold on their life and spend it the most meaningful productive
way. Zimbardo and Boyd have addressed six major attitudes toward time. They have also created
a way to help identify your own time perspective and alongside provided exercises to help you
expand your time orientation. Before we begin to learn how to utilize time we must learn the
importance of time and why it matters.
John Boyd had paid a visit to the Crypt of the Capuchin Monks in Rome, Italy, there he notices
some engraved words on the floor near a pile of bones. The words read: What you are, they once
were. What they are, you will be. This quote brings to light the significance of our past and future
and how they actively affect our present life. The remained skeletons, told countless stories of

What Is Chipotle s Competitive Advantage
Chipotle s competitive advantage is they are the only restaurant that is environmentally conscious.
They have tried to reduce their carbon footprint on the earth atmosphere by focusing on a
program called Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) which uses solar energy
for electricity to reduce the energy consumption during peak hours. They only deal with the
freshest, most natural, and organic ingredients. They work with local farmers to give their
customers the best taste of fast casual dining. Also, Chipotle have started a program that allows
them to increase local sourcing to 35% by using produce that is grown 350 miles from their
restaurants. This program allows Chipotle to use seasonal produce through a network of 25 local
farms that reduce the use of fossil fuel and boost the local farmers revenue.
Another reason being environmental friendly is Chipotle s competitive advantage is co CEO
Steven Ells understood the damage that concentrated animal feeding operations (CAFO) caused to
the environment. When Ells visited several CAFOs, he seen that these structures had a negative
impact on water and air quality which, is regulated by the EPA. He also noticed that many CAFOs
had water treatment plants to control the manure which also affected the environment. That is ...

Jon Krakauer s Thin The Line Between Investigative...
Jon Krakauer s books expertly toe the line between investigative journalism and gripping and tense
non fiction. In Missoula, he tackles the rape epidemic on college campuses and its complicated
relationship with the criminal justice system. In Into Thin Air, he delves into his own experience as
a mountain climber who witnessed the Mt. Everest Disaster first hand. In both publications,
Krakauer strives to uncover a dark truth about a familiar institution. Although there is certainly
variation in the means of accomplishing this purpose between the books, his characteristic
technique is evident in their stylistic commonalities. Both Missoula and Into Thin Airutilize
Krakauer s ability to create atmosphere and mood in order to convey a message and make his
commentary more poignant. Both books exhibit a dark tone, being about extremely heavy
content. Yet despite this, Krakauer creates a unique atmosphere for each of the two books that
embodies the specific purpose. Missoula is written to expose the failures of the criminal justice
system in prosecuting rapists. While at times it has a sad or even remorseful tone, bemoaning the
fates of victims, overall, the book is meant to strike the reader as more angry than sorrowful. For
instance, Krakauer relays to the reader how attorney Kirsten Pabst obviously did not take the time
to listen to the recording... because a number of Pabst s assertions... are just plain wrong (Missoula
100). This sentence reads almost as an accusation and

Detroit Riot Of 1943 Essay
The Detroit Riot of 1943 is a riot between the two racial ethnicities whites and blacks. During the
World War 2, this riot is said to be one of the worst riots that had happened during those times
(blackpast.org/Detroit race riot). Black people thought hey were heading to a guaranteed land
where they could seek for better future. However, white southerners didn t want black peopleto be
in their neighborhood; the white people brought their prejudices along with them as they migrate
towards the northern side. Because the arrival of newcomers, many suffered from being
uncomfortable due to the wartime rationing. Also, children were not given any care programs. At
the same time, blacks were not included from public housing. A lot of them lived in a home were
indoor plumbing is not available, yet they paid rent double than what white people are paying.
Blacks faced many discriminations and imbalanced actions by police. Basically, the main cause of
this riot is because of the segregation and the unfair treatment of society to black people.

Sports Competition For School Age Children Can Be a Good Thing
Many parents find themselves standing on the sidelines of a baseball game or a soccer game very
early on in their child s life. Cheering away as they watch their child make their first goal or hit
their first home run. This is just a small glimpse for parents into the world of sports and
competition where their child is concerned. According to Tami Coyle, from Arundel

There is a lot of controversy about use of medication in children with ADHD. Organized sports
offer many another options for parents and kids. The benefits include, a decrease in risky
behavior, better sportsmanship and easier integration into the social setting (Lullo and Van

positively with their peers. The hope is that this will help overflow into their everyday lives.
Millions of children play sports for fun but there are many other benefits for kids. The number
of overweight children in the U.S. seems to be increasing, Twenty percent of U.S. children are
overweight (Becerra, Children) . Overweight children have a better chance of becoming
overweight adults. Encouraging children to be involved in sports and staying away from the
video games is a great start. Making exercise and sports fun for kids promotes healthy habits that
will last a life time. Sports Illustrated Kids did a survey of children titled Kids Speak Out in
2009; they found that 51% of children asked would like to participate in sports (34 39). They
found that kids would rather participate than watch sports in person, on television or in a video

The Joy Luck Club presents many conflicts in the mother daughter relationship. The conflicts are
embodied in 3 aspects. First, the mothers and the daughters are in different cultural backgrounds,
and the daughters cannot understand their mothers. At the beginning, Jing Mei fears that she
cannot tell her mother s story to her half sisters, which, in fact, reflects the fear of other daughters
of the Joy Luck Club members. They have identified themselves with Americans. Jing Mei s fear
also reflects the mothers common feelings. They offer the chance to go to America to their

The Politics Of Latin America
Latin America is a continent that is constantly struggling between governmental abuse and
oppression of its citizens. In Latin America, it is very common for non democratic systems to be
enforced. During recent years, the continent has experienced a governmental shift from an absolute
to a more democratic system. This era is called the democratic third wave, which brought about
democratic like tendencies to Latin America. Many factors such as corruption, poverty, and
inequality pushed the people to favor this new democratic system. The abuse of power is also very
common, and the citizen s unrest is highly noted. Most citizens are in favor of doing away with the
old system of government, and establishing a new efficient political system.... Show more content

The analysis utilizes a comparison analysis of the three countries Costa Rica, Bolivia, and Ecuador.
There are countries such as Costa Rica who are labeled the forefront of democracy in Latin
American while Bolivia and Ecuador are seen as politically struggling countries. Democracy was a
new visionary force that was gaining the attention of many in Latin America due to it fair political
tendencies. However, it did not consolidate everywhere in Latin America, as we see with the
countries of Bolivia and Ecuador. Only a few countries have remained democratically stable, and
others constantly go back and forth between the multiple government systems. With the constant
uproar for democracy battling with its opposition, it has made it fairly hard to consolidate
throughout Latin America.
Racial inequality plays a key role in achieving the consolidation of democracy, due to its constant
dependency of a class hierarchy. Since the beginning of Latin American history, those who
controlled power were considered the elitist class. The elites had the resources and financial
stability to hold places of power, and ultimately controlling all around them. In the colonial period
of Latin America, the Encomienda and Hacienda systems displayed the different classes and rights
each one had in a new light. The encomienda was a system where the royal crown of Spain granted

Dominant Music Elements
What is the dominant element of the music you generally listen to?
For me, I would have to say that the lyrics are the most dominant element of music. Even though
every aspect of music brings a piece together, it is the lyrics that bring about the emotional appeal.
The song Difficult by Eminem is an example of this. Even though the beat itself with the piano
makes this a strong song, it is the lyrics that brings it together. One could argue that the rhythm or
melody is the dominant element of music, but personally I don t like listening to music without
vocals. If you listen to the song Difficult, hopefully you will understand what I mean by brings it

On the original appeal in this case, the Federal Circuit reversed and remanded the district court s
finding of indefiniteness under the premise that a claim is indefinite only when it is not amenable
to construction or insolubly ambiguous. The Supreme Court in Nautilus v. Biosig Instruments Inc.
134 S.Ct. 2120, 2124 (2014) in its decision articulated the standard A patent is invalid for
indefiniteness if its claims, read in light of the specification delineating the patent, and the
prosecution history, fail to inform, with reasonable certainty those skilled in the art about the scope
of the invention.
In light of the new standard set forth by the Supreme Court, the Federal Circuit addressed only the
issue of indefiniteness on remand. The question before the court was whether the district court
erred in holding that the spaced relationship as recited in claim 1, and referring to the spacing
between the common and live electrodes, was not distinctly pointed out and particularly claimed in
the patent in violation of 35 U.S.C. В§

Graffiti As A Sustainable And Decent Art Form
In modern societies, there are ongoing debates among multiple stakeholders regarding the nature
and acceptability of graffiti as a sustainable and decent art form. Having gained immense popularity
in urban environments, graffiti has always been on the verge between art and vandalism. The
reason for such controversial perceptions lies in the definition of graffitiand its origins. As Campos
defines it, graffiti and street artcould be considered a practice through which individuals appropriate
the cityand whose nature is consistently described as subversive (Campos, 2015, p. 17) and
illicit. That is, the subculture of graffiti implies the element of illicit artistic expression placed in
public view. While the original purpose of graffiti as the practice was born in Philadelphia of the
1960s was tagging through specific styles of writing and lettering, further development of the
culture (Mettler, 2012, p. 252). At the same time, development of graffiti form lettering focused
on the writer s name to more elaborate forms including imagery and as street art making it the
focus have raised even more debate regarding graffiti. This essay will argue that graffiti is a
decent form of visual art involving skills, artistic vision and sociocultural context: that is, not all
graffiti works are vandalism, for many of them occupy public spaces with the purpose of decoration
or communication of socially significant messages. As an example, the graffiti created by Futura

The Art of Edouard Manet
The boundaries between aesthetic and perversion
Manet s early paintings such as The Luncheon on the Grass (Le dГ©jeuner sur l herbe) or
Olympia clearly showcased his style in a way that hadn t been done before, which caused great
controversies but also paved the way for one of the most famous art movements in history
Impressionism. Manet was also known for criticizing society through his paintings such as
Olympia and A Bar at the Folies Bergere , etc., which made the audience aware of how they
viewed the painting. By disregarding the old aesthetic of soft lighting and moderate exposure of
the female figure, Manet s sharp contrast way of painting pressures the viewer to face what is
being depicted in front of them. Through his style, Edouard Manet challenged the traditional
perspective of female nudity in art and offered an alternate view that was less ideal and more

The painting was based on Titian s Venus of Urbino, however, the subject matter and the content
surprised the viewer with a harsh reality that could not be ignored. In the course of the modern
period of industrialization, new inventions, and expansion that created a thriving atmosphere in
Paris, what made this painting quite obscene to the public of the time was the hidden escalation in
prostitution. Unlike Titian s Venus, this specific piece of artwork presented a nude female
prostitute. Manet positioned her in a pose that was quite hostile and confrontational with her firm
but bored gaze making it hard for the viewer to look away. She was being depicted as less
traditionally virtuous than Venus as her body language showed a business type of transaction more
than anything else. Almost every piece of subject matter in the painting accentuated her sexuality,

The interest in the examination of childhood as a scholastic field was sparked by the seminal
work of medievalist historian Philippe AriГЁs (1914 84). AriГЁs suggests that premodern
childhood was a time of neglect and abuse since high mortality rates prevented people from
forging close bonds with their children. It is for this reason, children were thought as being at the
bottom of the social scale and therefore unworthy of consideration. AriГЁs can be quoted as saying
from his 1962 pioneering publication Centuries of Childhood....that in a premodern age, especially
that before the seventeenth century, that childhood did not exist. In a medieval society, the idea of
childhood did not exist...[the] awareness of the particular nature which distinguishes... Show more

These theories are reinforced by the impression that during this period, children were modeled to
be little adults ; viewed nothing more than economic assets as opposed to symbols of love. This
can be seen visually throughout the sixteenth century in portraiture of children with their parents,
who were stylized similarly to their parents and/or depicted to possess adult like features. While
AriГЁs work is viewed as a principle text in the studies of childhood, Italian Renaissance scholars
such as Linda Pollock, Louis Haas, Jacqueline Mussachio, and Christiane Klapisch Zuber refute
these claims, stating that ...childhood was viewed as a discrete part of domestic life, portioned off
from adulthood; as a time of innocence and play; a stage in life in which a child is shielded by
parents to the harsh realities of adulthood . Alberti s Quattro libri della famiglia and Louis Haas
1998 book The Renaissance Man and his children: Childbirth and Early Childhood in Renaissance
Florence 1300 1600 both seem to concede to AriГЁs claims, but Mussachio, Linda Pollock s
Forgotten Children: Parent Child relations from 1500 1900, and Christiane Klapisch Zuber s 1987

The Elements Of Realism In The Boarded Window By Ambrose...
The beautiful iridescent blue Morpho butterfly has survived in the deep tropical forest due to the
underside of its wings which resemble the big eyes of a predator. Blue Morphos appear to have a
supernatural ability to portray themselves as something they are not. Their indistinguishable
differences trick the senses of the enemy. Close examination of their large brown scary predator
eyes show they are ordinary simple butterflies. There is a similar misunderstanding when
examining the short story by Ambrose Bierce. When one looks close the story becomes clear.
After considering both the slice of the life of Realism and the supernatural of Romanticism
movement, the short story The Boarded Window by Ambrose Bierce is an example of Realism...

He laid her onto the table to attempted to prepare her her body for burial. He methodically did
what he thought was the order of natural laws. He performed the finishing touches adjusting her
hair. Exhausted, he laid his head on the table and drifted, but was soon woken with a startling noise
and shaking of a panther coming into his home and taking his wife. The author presents this
authentic real situation of a unschooled man that had to face the challenges of a typical fearful day
out in the frontier. Although some people, on the other hand, see the story as Realism.
Romanticism comes closer to understanding the life of an uneducated ordinary man because there
is something supernatural in life humans can t explain. In the short story Murlock lived a life with
events that aren t normally common with an everyday man living in the woods. One day when he
was sitting alone mourning the death of his wife there came a surprising creature who entered his
home through the window. The flash that which lit up the room with a vivid illumination, he saw
an enormous panther dragging the dead woman toward the window, its teeth fixed in her throat!
Life in the frontier back woods wouldn t have brought a big black panther into his house through
the window. When the panther climbed through the window it went after Murlock s dead wife
lying on the table, it is unrealistic that it would drag the dead wife through the window instead of
staying there, eating his prey,

Jeremiah Vs Ezekiel
Among the Old Testament prophets, Jeremiah and Ezekiel are probably the most outstanding ones.
Living in the same historical period, witnessing and being part of tragic, crucial changes in the
Judas history, having a similar background, these two men still differ a lot in their views, lifestyle
and way of prophesying.
Jeremiah was likely born between 650 and 645 B.C. not far from Jerusalem in a family of a
priest and was by being trained for holy service in the priesthood was prepared for his future role.
Jeremiah s contemporary Ezekiel also had the priestly background and was a functioning priest
probably attached to Jerusalem Temple staff, but his prophetic ministry developed in Babylon as
he was exiled several years before Jerusalem fall. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It contains a lot of historical and biographical material in addition to the prophet s own words,
and from all this, his personality is revealed. The Book makes a pessimistic impression, as
Jeremiah is persistent in challenging dishonesty and hypocrisy. When being called he is unsure of
his ability to speak in the name of God, but the Lord reassures him, giving the promise of support.
Jeremiah starts prophesying the future fall of Jerusalem and his role after it is to bring his word to
the Jews in exile as well, so here he develops a theology of repentance, exile and restoration. At the
same time, Jeremiah stays in the ruined city, encouraging the new ruler and the people, explaining
what happened and providing the directions for further actions. The final chapters mostly describe

The Effects Of Gunshot Residues On A Criminal Investigation
Gunshot Residues are a critical and an important trace evidence used in a criminal investigation.
Recovering and analyzing GSR evidence is carried out in order to link an individual to a certain
firearm. Finding GSR on a person s hand does not necessarily mean that he/she is the one that fired
the weapon. At the same time not finding any GSR particles does not prove that that person was
not the shooter. Gunshot Residues can easily be transferred to various surfaces not only by being in
contact with a firearm, but also shaking a handwith a person that has handled a weapon or any other
ammunitioncharged components. The formation of the GSR is due to the rapid cooling of the
discharge gasses and solid matter, originating from partially reacted components of the primer and
propellant, as well as the metallic composition of the firearm and ammunition. The residues can be
easily deposited onto the hand of the shooter and later transferred to other parts of the body such as
the skin, clothing and hair. Information taken from various reports and analysis throughout the
years show us that GSR are deposited on the skin (hand) immediately after the firing. The highest
chance of detecting a significantly good amount of residues is within the 1st hour of the incident. In
practice after 6hours GSR cannot be expected from a living person. There are many reports on how
Gunshot residues react with the skin, hands, clothes, as well as how to remove them. The important
question is what

Psalm 95 Analysis
Over the past several weeks in class, we have been looking at different psalms, and learning how to
interpret what the psalms mean. We ve explored what the psalms say about God, people, and the
relationship between the two. We ve also explored the different functions contained in the psalms,
and identified the expressions of emotions contained in the various psalms. In this week s reflective
paper, I will be reflecting on Psalms 95 and 100. I will discuss the type and genre used in each
psalm, the structure of the psalm, the type parallelisms being used, the figures of speech, and the
main ideal displayed in each psalm.
Lets begin with psalm 95. Psalm 95 is considered a descriptive praise psalm. The main ideal of this
psalm is a call to worship ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This psalm is also a descriptive praise psalm. The genre is thanksgiving. (Kidner, 2008, p. 388).
A song of thankful praise brings this group of homage psalms up to an unclouded summit after
alternations of exuberance and awe I would structure this psalm with verses 1 2 being a call to
praise, verse 3 being the cause of praise, verse 4 being another call to praise, and lastly verse 5
being a cause to praise. In Psalm 95:3 know that the Lord himself is God; It is he who has made
us, and not we ourselves; We are his people and the sheep of his pasture. There is a metaphor
being used with we are the sheep of his pasture. There is synonymous parallelism is verses 2,
serve the Lord with gladness; Come before him with joyful singing. Enter his gates is synonymous
with his courts and with thanksgiving and with praise is also synonymous in psalm 95:4. Lastly in
psalm 95:5 there is more examples of synonymous parallelism with his lovingkindness and his
faithfulness, and is everlasting to all generations. If the psalm began by broadening our horizon, it
ends by lengthening our view and expectations (Kidner, 2008, p.

Overview of Behavioral Economics Essay
Behavioural economics is the study of the effects that psychology has on the decision making of
the economy. This tends to be the way that people think and feel when they are spending money
on a certain good or service. The great economist Adam Smith was the first follower of this idea
through his book The theory of moral sentiments which dates back to 1759. However, it took
over 100 years to get a more clarified meaning of how big of a role the psychology of a buyer
plays in economics. In behavioural economics there are seven basic principles which all contribute
to the decision making process. Behavioural economics can explain how people will react to
different situations such as times when there are no economic problems and times when... Show

In other words most people would prefer to pay more and buy a more expensive product
thinking that by paying more it is also superior to the other products of the same category that
are cheaper. However, although the phrase you get what you pay for might have some validity in
it that is not always the case, due to the fact that sometimes the products that might be cheaper are
just as good as the competitor brand which has a higher price. In this instant it would be logical to
buy the cheaper product however most human beings would opt for the expensive product,
assuming that it is of better quality than the cheaper product. On the other hand, Dan Ariely
rebuffs this claim and states, We choose what we like, not what s best. Sometimes humans don t
make decisions based on their preferences; instead they choose what they want and that leads to a
process of rationalisation in order to get what they really want. However, they still want to give the
impression that they were acting according to their preferences. Secondly, the framing effect states
that presenting the same option but in a different format can change people s decisions. Plous
(1993) states that, individuals have a tendency to select inconsistent choices, depending on
whether the question is framed to concentrate on losses or gains. A good example of when
framing is apparent is when stores advertise sale on their products. For example two stores both
sell the same product which is priced at ВЈ50

Vitiligo Research Paper
Melanin is an important part of the body that is produced by melanocytes. Melanin gives the hair,
skin, and eyes color as well as protects the body from the ultra violet rays that radiate from the sun.
The amount of melanin in the body determines the complexion of the skin. Vitiligo occurs when
these important melanocytes die in patches around the body. This differs from the aging process,
when melanocytes stop producing melaninwhich results in white or gray hair. Vitiligo is a non
contagious, non life threatening condition which causes a discoloration of the skinthat appears over
time, but does not go away. Most people say this condition is painless, but some report itching, and
pain. This condition affects millions of people around the world, proportionately between men and
women, and can be present in any given race, although it is more apparent in darker skin... Show

Vitiligo does not happen over night, the skin discoloration whitens over time with cycles of
cessation and progressive whitening. Early precursors to vitiligo include premature whitening of
the hair on the scalp , loss of color in the mucosa, loss of color or change in the retina. According to
the American Academy of Dermatology, generalized vitiligo often begins on hands, fingertips,
wrists, around the eyes or mouth, or on the feet.
The diagnosis of this condition is usually achieved with a complete family history and a physical
examination of the skin. A complete family history can rule out causes of skin discoloration such
as psoriasis. Upon physical examination the doctor may use a lamp called Wood s lamp, which
shines ultra violet light to see any discoloration that may be occurring that is not yet apparent to the
naked eye. Topical creams, medicines, lotions, or sunblock should not be applied prior to the
examination as it could distort any

Theme Of Archetypes In Romeo And Juliet
Carl Gustav Jung, a Swiss psychiatrist and psychoanalyst who was the founder analytical
psychology, once stated: The contents of the collective unconscious are archetypes, primordial
images that reflect basic patterns that are common to us all, and which have existed universally
since the dawn of time (Carl Gustav Jung). Originally published in 1597, William Shakespeare
devised a renowned play about two star crossed lovers, Romeo and Juliet. Most can argue that a
prominent factor behind the choice of language throughout this play was influenced by archetypes
and the psychological aspect behind them, depicting patterns that reside within a collective
unconscious, universally apparent and populated by instinct. Throughout the romantic, yet
devastating, story of Romeo and Juliet,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Carl Jung investigated this realm of consciousness and discovered that human beings, as a species,
encompass almost identical traits of thought under our collective unconsciousness, which is the
determining component of how the world is considered in perspective, including the symbolism
apparent in religion, mythology, and other historical documents. In the play, Romeo and Juliet,
Shakespeare harnessed this knowledge in order to convey his ideas with text that ensured the
readers understood his story and could base a personal interpretation from it. Thus, after analyzing
the dreams of schizophrenic patients, ancient symbolism, mythology, religion, biology, and
evolution, one can come to the conclusion that each of these areas can, in fact, be proven to have a
correlating relationship with the human psyche, adapting to its conditions yet never losing its
mutual and uniting bond through time and

Protein Absorbability Lab Report
The absorbance spectrum of the protein samples were measured between the range of 400 to
700nm and the heme absorption was found to be at 409nm. Following Figure 1, as we increase the
[GuHCl], the absorbance band at 409nm decreases in intensity. This illustrates that proteinis
unfolding. Ergo, a two state model is establish between the folded and unfolded state of myoglobin.
And by applying Equation (1), it allows us to estimate the structural stability of the protein under
these conditions through the equilibrium that has been established.

Further, since the conformational state of myoglobin can be describe in a two state thermodynamic
model that leads to an equilibrium, it is possible to describe the transition in terms of пЃ„G as a
function of the denaturing agent concentration, as shown in the second plot of Figure 2. In addition,
the formulation of a linear perturbation plot permits us to calculate for the пЃ„Gounfolding of
myoglobin in the absence of GuHCl, which was found to be +33.6 kJ/mol as seen in Table 1.
On the other hand, the second section of the experiment involves the usage of different
concentration of the magic buffer solution, which acts as the denaturing agent for the protein. As
illustrated in Figure 3, the absorbance intensity at 409nm was plotted as a function of pH of the
protein solution. Furthermore, this plot demonstrates that myoglobin is unfolded at lower pH.
Consider at lower pH values, it seems that higher buffer concentration the protein is more unfolded
because the absorbance intensity is lower than at 0.010 M buffer concentration, as shown in Figure
3. This illustrates that the magic buffer mixture is an effective denaturing agent as the
concentration of the solution

Moral Hierarchy In Antigone
There are many different moral levels that people have. People use reasoning that can be
identified with a particular stage on Kohlberg s moral development hierarchy. The higher stages
of morality are not usually achieved, according to Kohlberg. In a play called Antigone, one
character, name Antigone, has a high level of morality. In Antigone, written by Sophocles, he
conveys various moral hierarchy stages through character traits, reasoning, and moral
development within this character Antigone is portrayed as being morally straight and obedient
to higher standards. She has a high moral standard. For example, she argues to Ismene, He s my
brother and yours too; and whether you will or not, I ll stand by him. (Sophocles, ll 52 53). This
is showing that she is very dedicated to her family. She will... Show more content on

Ethos is a type of reasoning that uses ethics. In this case, she says, I will stay with him, my
brother; and my crime will be devotion. (Sophocles, ll 89 90). Basically Antigone feels that
serving her brother is more important than obeying the law. This is showing that she places
higher importance on moral ethics than human laws. In another instance, Antigone states, Haven
t you heard? Don t you see hatred marches on love when friends, our own people, our family are
treated as enemies? (Sophocles, ll 12 15). In short, she is saying that hatred is ruining her love
for her brother in that Kreon is treating Polyneices like an enemy by not giving him a proper
burial. This goes against Antigone s views which are that her brother deserves a burial regardless
of what he did in his lifetime. This reasoning tells us that Antigone has high levels of morality her
standards prove her maturity. This type of reasoning puts her at the fifth stage of Kohlberg s moral
development hierarchy, which is social contract and individual rights. Antigone has proven to be at
a very high moral state throughout this

Stress And The Immune System Essay
Stress And The Immune System
The immune system is a very important part of our bodily functions as its main function is to
protect the body against millions of antigens, which attack our cells and try to reproduce viruses
and diseases. The immune system can protect the body in three different ways, in which are:
1. It creates a barrier that prevents the antigens from initially entering the body.
2. If the antigens do manage to enter the body, then your immune system will try to detect the virus
and abolish it before it begins to spread.
3. If the virus does reproduce and begins to cause problems, your immune system is then
responsible for eliminating it. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They have also found that there are strong links between prolonged stress and disorders, mentally

Stress and the Immune System.
Kiecolt Glaser et al 1995 =========================
Aims
The aim of this experiment was to determine the effects of stress on the immune system. This was
determined by analysing how quickly a person s wound healed. It naturally is clearly difficult to
create stress within a group of participants to examine how stress does affect your immune system.
Hence Kiecolt Glaser required seeking a group of participants in which naturally have high levels
of chronic stress.
Procedures
Kiecolt Glaser et al 1995 used a group of women who were caring for relatives suffering from a rare
disease called senile dementia. This responsibility has been known to be associated with chronic
stress.
Kiecolt Glaser et al used a matched participants design, which is where the participants are matched
together based on for example age and height. A volunteer sample was used as the participants were
recruited using advertisements.

and so they were placed in the experimental group. An additional thirteen

because Mars has a large similarity to Earth. Mars may have ice underneath its surface as it had

Rational Choice Theory Versus Social Control Theory
Rational choice theory and social control theory both show why an individual may commit a
criminal act, but they both also draw criticism of their approach. Rational choice theory critics point
out that The first problem with the theory has to do with explaining collective action. That is, if
individuals simply base their actions on calculations of personal profit, why would they ever choose
to do something that will benefit others more than themselves? (Crossman, 2015). The theory
focuses only on the individual s mindset and doesn t take into account any of their social structure.
The society an individual grows up in may make them more prone to commit crime. Social control

Cherokee Indian Rights Of Passage Analysis
Rights of passage are a big part in your life and your relatives. There are many rites of passage
and they all differ from each other. The Medicine Bag , The Apache Girl ,and the Cherokee
Indians all have to face their right of passage. The Medicine Bag is about a boy named Martin
who is given a medicine bag as his right of passage. The Apache Girl is about a girl named
Dachina who s rite of passage leads her into womanhood. The Cherokee Indians right of passage
has the boy sit through the night alone in a forest to show that he is a man. These 3 stories have
many similarities and differences in their rites of passage. They also are written in different
formats which makes your understanding of the topic different. The Medicine Bag , The
Apache Girl , and the Cherokee Indians all have very similar rites of passage. They all have to
accomplish something to become a woman or a man in their tribe. The Apache Girl and the
Cherokee Indians both have to show strength and confidence. Dacina has to dance for 10 hours
and the Cherokee Indians have to sit on a log through the night with a blindfold on. This helps
them show that they are strong enough to become a member of the tribe. The Medicine Bag and
the Cherokee Indians also have similar rights of passage because they both don t have to face

Vaccines Are The Tugboats Of Preventive Health
Introduction
Vaccines are the tugboats of preventive health (Billy Corgan). Vaccines are one of the most cost
effective health solutions; they are seen as the safest and best way to prevent diseases. They are
also effective in preventing bacterial infections such as whooping cough (pertussis) and tetanus.
But there are people around the world who purposely avoid it because of the ingredients inside or
because of their own bad experiences with vaccines. Due to the rise of conscientious vaccine
objectors in Australia, the Australian government introduced the No Jab No Pay legislation. The
legislation consists on the government cutting child care benefits and tax rebate if the child isn t
immunised; ultimately to improve the immunisation coverage rates in Australia. ( No Jab No Pay,
Australian Vaccinationskeptics Network Inc. , 2016) It also provides a catch up plan that provides
free service for children under 10. The scheme aims to improve overall vaccination standards in
Australia. But why do people object getting vaccination? Is the No Jab No Pay the best solution? Is
there a better solution to vaccination rates? The report aims to answer the questions above through
research and data from Australia and around the world.
Importance of Vaccination
Vaccinations are an important force against preventable diseases, they fight many diseases and it
doesn t only protect the person vaccinated but can protect others. They can control the spread of
disease to people who are not

Starbucks Strategic Management Process
Introduction
In this report an explanation about the strategic management process will be given, utilizing the
model illustrated below. Firstly, the different elements will be explained followed by a clarification
of the different relationships, in terms of impact, between them. First of all, an explanation about
strategic management is given. According to Fred R. David, strategic management can be defined as
the art and science of formulating, implementing, and evaluating cross functional decisions that
enable an organization to achieve its objectives. Additionally, four stages could be defined in the
strategic management process: environmental scanning, strategy formulation, strategy
implementation, and strategy evaluation. Lastly, a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Furthermore, the wider socioeconomic or macro environment considers aspects such as
government, legal aspects, technological factors and other factors that could affect the company
and industry. As a result of assessing the external environment, the opportunities and threats of a
company can be defined. Opportunities allow a company to take advantage of their strengths,
minimize weaknesses, and neutralize environmental threats. Finally, the threats may hinder a
company to gain competitive advantage or satisfy their stakeholders. Thus, there should be
elaborated on strengths in order to minimize the company s threats.
Strategic analysis and choice
Strategic analysis and choices involve understanding the underlying bases for future strategy at both
the business unit and corporate levels and the options for developing strategy in terms of both the
directions in which the strategy might move and the methods of development. (Johnson, Scholes,
amp; Whittington, 2006).
Once a company s strategy has been elaborated on, it is necessary to analyze it and to choose the
strategy that suits best for the company s intention. First of all, it is decisive to indicate the business
competitive advantage in order to understand in which way the company can compete within its
competitive set. Additionally, decisions concerning the corporate level strategy such as the
company s profile, products,

Analysis Of Speak By Laurie Anderson
The book Speak by Laurie Anderson is a book about how Melinda Sordino overcomes the troubles
in her life, and how she learned to speak up for herself. The author uses a lot of archetypes and
allusions throughout the book to add a fuller description to the events Melinda had gone through,
which will help the readers to better understand what Anderson is trying to tell.
When Melinda started her first day of high school, she suffered from peer pressure with her best
friend who had just left her, and everyone had hated her because she ruined a party during summer
break by calling the police. Melinda knew that no one knew the truth, but she was afraid to speak
out about it. Laurie Anderson used the allusion of Rudolph, the red nosed reindeer ... Show more

Moreover, this drawing of the tree is representative of the mind growth of Melinda. For instance,
the drawing was poorly drawn at the beginning of the book, Melinda s pressure and her life were
weighing her down. As the drawing got better throughout the school year, Melinda s strength
and mindset also began to get better as well. If the tree meant to shelter , then Melinda sure
developed a very nice shelter for herself in the end. Laurie Anderson also used allusions while
describing Melinda s trauma. IT sees me. IT smiles and winks. Good thing my lips are stitched
together or I d throw up. (Anderson 96). The book Maya Angelou is written by a girl who was
once raped. The experience is similar between Melinda and Angelou. The audience may not fully
understand what Melinda was thinking during that time, but the book, Maya Angelou, fully
describes the life of a raped girl which gave us a fuller understanding of the situation that Melinda
was dealing with. She also used the archetype of darkness, when Melinda was raped, it was night
time. Darkness represents Chaos, emblem of bad judgment and destruction, for instance, Melinda
was raped in the darkness. This word should give the readers a clear foreshadowing of what will
happen next. The author also used the archetype of coldness throughout the story. For instance, at

Definition Essay On Equality
Equality the state or quality of being equal; correspondence in quantity, degree, value, rank, or
ability. Equality is more than a 15 word definition. Equality is knowing someone is different but
treating them the same, equality is knowing someone has muscular dystrophy and treating them
like you would any other person, equalityis when you introduce yourself you state the pronouns you
go by like he, she, or they, equality is not assuming that because of someone s genderthey like the
opposite gender, equality is seeing a girl s short haircut and not assuming they are a lesbian or
transgender. Equality is not 15 words. Equality can be an infinite amount of words if we step out
of our comfort zone just a little bit to experience some of what could be a mass utopia.
Many people do not support some forms of equality because they were grown up into the beliefs
their parents have taught them. So basically This is the truth, don t let anyone tell you different .

The share of industry in the GDP is 25.8 %. The production of value added goods is at basic stage
in Pakistan that leads to adverse BOP. * Devaluation
The repeated devaluation of rupee against US dollar has not helped in the increase of exports. The
demand for our goods in the international market is elastic. As such, due to devaluation, as tool for

particularly of our value added goods has reduced the volume of foreign trade in Pakistan. It
causes reduction in exports, which result in deficit in BOP. * Increase in Prices of Inputs
The inflationary impact of the rise in the prices of inputs are not helping in achieving the export

Japan, Hong Kong and some other nations imposed antidumping duties on our cotton yarn, fabric

Gangs Of New York Film Analysis
1) Immigration (Irish) Potatoe s were a staple in the Irish diet but in the 1840 s the potato crops
were mysteriously rotting and dying. This spread all across the fields of Ireland causing a famine.
The famine lasted for about six years and killed over a million men, women, and children in Ireland.
It also caused many of the Irish to immigrate to America to survive. The film Gangs of New York
takes place at the five points in lower Manhattan. The Nativists who believed that they were the
true native americans controlled the five points and are ruled by the character Bill Cutting.
Cutting was marked as the leader on the Nativists after being the one who killed Priest Vallon.

In Gangs of New York the nativists gang led by Bill Cutting were native born people who stood

signs up in the window of their store that said No Irish Need Apply . They did this to prevent any
Irish from asking for a job. The natives would not allow the immigrants to work for them. The
natives called immigrants many different names and told them to go back where they came from
while throwing things at them as they were unloading off of ships. Bill Cutting held a celebration
every year to remember the day he slayed Priest Vallon. The scene shows many natives gathered
around watching Cutting entertain for them with his knife skills. They celebrate and cheer as
Cutting drinks a glass of alchohol that is lit on fire. Amsterdam planned to kill Cutting to avenge
the death of his father. His attempts fail and Cutting starts to ask the crowd how he should kill him
and punish him. The crowd goes wild, cheering and yelling out ways to punish Amsterdam. They
knew who he was and that he was the son of Vallon. The Nativists took part in cruel acts to protect
their interests and believed theirs were worth protecting because they were native born. They

Nancy Spero Analysis
I believe I m directly contradicting the way human beings are represented in our society. I think
the universal is the male. And so in my deliberately turning this around and trying to universalize
the female, I tried to challenge myself to look at the world as I wanted to, as a woman artist,
realizing the complexities of doing so because the world isn t really that way .
Nancy Spero was born in Cleveland, Ohio, in 1926. Her early development as an artist was highly
influenced by the Chicago art scene, the city from which Art Institute she graduated. Chicago s art
scene was resistant to the one in New York where Abstract Expressionism was going on at the time
while in Chicago figuration remained more important. Spero, while aware of Abstract
Expressionism, she was also resistant to it as her main interest was painting the figurative
expressionism. She believed that nothing could eradicate human presence, although she did
recognize its importance, as she considered human image the most important conceptual subject. ...

the central subject of her work, her protagonists, being collectively represented through the ancient
civilisation to the present. The past and present become interwoven. This way Spero rewrites
history, the history written by men for men. She makes past present making that way history
forever changeable, never complete. Her use of the same images in different situations or contexts
shows this constant shift of meaning by neutralizing the images and reinventing their

The Chamber Of Commerce V. Whiting
Alexandra Kulak Issue Analysis Chamber of Commerce v. Whiting 10.24.2014 Chamber of
Commerce v. Whiting was a Supreme Court decision regarding the Legal Arizona Workers Act,
which penalized businesses and proprietors in Arizona that hired illegal immigrants, and required
that businesses check the citizenship status of their potential employees using the e verify system.
Various civil rights groups as well as businesses, collectively titled Chamber of Commerce ,
claimed the federal Immigration Reform and Control Act preempted these statutes in the Arizona
law. The state law was upheld in 2011. Immigration is a contentious issue in politics that seems to
be stagnating. There is a massive population of illegal immigrants, and some people feel they
should be granted amnesty, while others think they should all be deported back to their respective
home countries. The question of how to handle their American born children is another issue
altogether. There are many moral questions to consider. It is controversial, and some state laws,
like the one in question in this court case, raise more questions about how to handle the problem of
illegal immigrants and legal immigrants vying for the same opportunities. The Chamber of
Commerce sued the Governor of Arizona, on the grounds that the statues in the Arizona state law
went beyond what the federal law in place allowed for. It is considered politically correct to not
discriminate, especially when it comes to the hiring in the

Analysis Of Delirium
Delirium poses many risks to the elderly population. This condition has been associated with
increased mortality, long term cognitive decline, and loss of autonomy (Kukreja, Gunher, Popp,
2015, p. 655). The course of delirium is acute, and without accurate differentiation and intervention,
outcomes can be deleterious (Resmick, 2016). This research question will focus on exploring the
care team s knowledge about delirium prevention and assessment and its contribution to outcomes.

According to Resnick (2016), there are recommendations of care that are supported by the National
Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE). However, these guidelines are not enough. As
a result, it becomes imperative to understand how to recognize delirium and develop a culture of
care that consistently implements processes that prevent its occurrence. While the awareness and
understanding of its impact can influence its recognition, a broader system wide approach needs to
become integrated into the daily practice of geriatric patients to sustain consistent outcomes and
improvements in care. The treatment options should be prefaced with knowledge sharing and
education surrounding the topic of delirium with the care team. Education will need to include
assessment, prevention, and management (Trogrlic et al., 2015, p. 15). Assessment components
will need to include an evidence based tool that is appropriate for the population and applies to
patients with and without cognitive impairments (Voyer et al., 2015). Preventive processes need to
be taught, understood, and operationalized. This would include identification of reversible causes
and risk factors, optimization of medications and elimination of inappropriate medications,
integration of family, and team collaboration (Resnick, 2016). Management options will need to
include treatment of electrolyte abnormalities, visual screening and correction for an identified

After, iron tools were invented, which started increasing the human densities in forest zones
(Barnes, 179). According to Barnes, human densities were low until the16th century, right before
iron tools were seen (Barnes, 179). These tools helped farmer clear their way in the forests, making
it easier for them to farm (Barnes, 179). After the ivory demand from the Roman s, the Chinese
started doing the same thing, demanding for ivory which is still currently growing (Barnes, 178,
Gao Clark, 23).
In more recent years, the ivory used has expanded in China (Gao Clark, 24). The most common
way ivory is used in China is for carving as a traditional art (Gao Clark, 24). Ivory carving wasn t
well known in the Chinese culture until later in the 1950 s, when ivory factories started

  • 2. The Wicker Man Essay Filled with mystery and thriller, The Wicker Man is one of the strangest yet interesting films out there. In the film, the story takes place on a small private island off of Washington where Nicholas Cage s character, Edward Malus, is looking for his daughter who had vanished. It is filled with twists and turns throughout the film, making it interesting and entertaining. I felt as if the film was well made and had a different storyboard compared to traditional thriller mysteries. Edward Malus, a police man in Washington, has been experiencing strange dreams and hallucinations since a car crash occurred after he had pulled a woman and her daughter over. He later receives a letter from his ex fiancГ©, Willow, telling him that her daughter, Rowan, (later finding she was his child) has gone missing and asks him for his help to find her. After arriving to the small secluded island, he meets some of the local residents and starts to have bad feelings about whole community, especially when they were not being helpful. Malus finds clues on what could of possible happened to their daughter Rowan throughout the film and coming to the conclusion and the town is doing human sacrifices, Rowan about to become one. At the end, he finds Rowan and finds out that he was tricked to come to the island to become a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Throughout the movie there was no background music that related with the mode of the movie or certain scenes. The lighting in the movie was what I would say a shadow, neither dark nor bright, but a good in between that set the mode of the movies thriller mystery. The tone and mode is well represented in the film with the combination of having no background music and having a good lighting set. If the film had background music or different lighting portrayed in it, it would have affected the tone and mode of the movie, giving it a completely different ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Star Trek Comparison May the force be with you, I have a bad feeling about this, and Live long and Prosper are three quotes from two major media franchises. Since their inception these two franchises have changed or shaped our imagination and future. They are Star Wars and Star Trek, both have similarities but even more differences that will be found in the general ideas, background info, and impacts of real life. From a first look the two are the same however when looked at closer there general ideas are seen to be quite different when not generalized. This can be seen with the plots, which can seem like both are about some space futuristic combat. However Star Warsis a series of events in a galaxy at war, either in formal or secretive conflict, where... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The first difference is the background history, Star Wars takes place in a distant universe in a galaxy far far away. That has its own cultures and ideologies based on a mixture of our own. While on the other spectrum Star Trek is a more realistic future in which the earth has expanded into space with other galactic civilizations to create a space federation to protect themselves from other united galactic civilizations, while also exploring the unknown. From that other background comes knowledge and mystics. The big difference here is that Star Wars has a mystic knowledge that is held by the Jedi and Sith who have protected the galaxy since the beginning, but in Star Trek all of the knowledge comes from learning, and has no true mysticism in it. Just following facts and common knowledge to do what needs to be done. Putting the knowledge and histories difference together that also influences the tools that both franchises use. Like Star War s history being created from all of the history its tools is also more imaginary being Lightsabers weapons, planet destroying Deathstars, and Hyperspace transportation. In reverse like the basis of a futuristic history Star Treks is based on what is possible to come like Transporters, phasers, and warp drives. Which have a more realistic thought of what could be created, and with what could possible happen what are the differences in the real life portion of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. My College Experience Well my first semester of college is nearly about to wrap up and I gained a ton of new knowledge that will last me a life time. It was just seven months ago that I graduated high school after twelve long years of public school. Now, it s been seven months officially being on my own and being an adult where I need to take on new responsibilities in my life. There have been new obstacles, new strategies to overcome those obstacles, and new outcomes to these challenges. When one door closes another door opens. With changes in life, new challenges await. One challenge that I came across when I first moved out was the fact that I was still a child and not ready for major reasonability s. I would just be a selfish person in many aspects when it came to myself. I would have a problem with giving up my paycheck to pay for my car and rent. I would have an issue with giving up my video game time and I would have an issue with giving up my me time. I was just asking myself, why me? Why do I have to deal with all these responsibilities? Then, college came in august and pushed my new responsibilities to the limit for me. I started to skip some of my classes because I had to work, and I felt like I couldn t have time for myself. I felt like in life you should be able to live life and have fun. Although, it became clear that life was knocking on my door and I had to make a change. My challenge was to see if I could finally take personal responsibilityin my life for ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Teaching Assistant Essay The traditional classroom, staffed by a single teacher is rapidly disappearing in schools across the UK. (Wilson et al, 2003, cited in Parker, 2009) Teaching Assistants There are many titles currently in use to describe the role of a teaching assistant, such as: classroom assistant (Lee and Mawson, 1998), learning support assistant (Farrell et al., 2000), teaching aides (Hall et al., 1995), para educators (French and Chopra, 1999) and auxiliary support (McGarvey et al., 1996). In the past, teaching assistants (TAs) were appointed as and when needed in an informal manner. For example, if a need arose to support a student with special educational needs (SEN), or if a bit of extra cash came to the school then a teaching assistant would be employed. However, it is now widely recognised that a teaching assistant post should be properly advertised (Watkinson, 2010). There has been a noticeable growth of teaching assistants over the years; according to the Department for Education (2014), there has been an increase of 4.9% between 2012 and 2013. In line with this, there is now notably a need for job descriptions and recognition of the successful candidate as becoming a full member of the school staff. The changing role of a teaching assistant The role of a teaching assistant has dramatically changed over the years and continues to do so. There are both arguments in support of the use of teaching assistant and against. An example of this is Blatchford et al. (2006) who reported ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

With thirty plus years of research Philip G. Zimbardo and John Boyd have discovered new methods to help one live a meaningful life through the use of timemanagement. They have also created a way to help identify your own time perspective and alongside provided exercises to help you expand your time orientation. Before we begin to learn how to utilize time we must learn the importance of time and why it matters. John Boyd had paid a visit to the Crypt of the Capuchin Monks in Rome, Italy, there he notices some engraved words on the floor near a pile of bones. The words read: What you are, they once were. What they are, you will be. This quote brings to light the significance of our past and future and how they actively affect our present life. The remained skeletons, told countless stories of different lives and their different travels and they hold the approaching destiny, we must one day face but they also hold the ... They have tried to reduce their carbon footprint on the earth atmosphere by focusing on a program called Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) which uses solar energy for electricity to reduce the energy consumption during peak hours. • 8. Jon Krakauer s Thin The Line Between Investigative... Jon Krakauer s books expertly toe the line between investigative journalism and gripping and tense non fiction. In Missoula, he tackles the rape epidemic on college campuses and its complicated relationship with the criminal justice system. In Into Thin Air, he delves into his own experience as a mountain climber who witnessed the Mt. Everest Disaster first hand. In both publications, Krakauer strives to uncover a dark truth about a familiar institution. Although there is certainly variation in the means of accomplishing this purpose between the books, his characteristic technique is evident in their stylistic commonalities. Both Missoula and Into Thin Airutilize Krakauer s ability to create atmosphere and mood in order to convey a message and make his commentary more poignant. Both books exhibit a dark tone, being about extremely heavy content. Yet despite this, Krakauer creates a unique atmosphere for each of the two books that embodies the specific purpose. Missoula is written to expose the failures of the criminal justice system in prosecuting rapists. While at times it has a sad or even remorseful tone, bemoaning the fates of victims, overall, the book is meant to strike the reader as more angry than sorrowful. For instance, Krakauer relays to the reader how attorney Kirsten Pabst obviously did not take the time to listen to the recording... because a number of Pabst s assertions... are just plain wrong (Missoula 100). This sentence reads almost as an accusation and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 10. Detroit Riot Of 1943 Essay The Detroit Riot of 1943 is a riot between the two racial ethnicities whites and blacks. During the World War 2, this riot is said to be one of the worst riots that had happened during those times (blackpast.org/Detroit race riot). Black people thought hey were heading to a guaranteed land where they could seek for better future. However, white southerners didn t want black peopleto be in their neighborhood; the white people brought their prejudices along with them as they migrate towards the northern side. Because the arrival of newcomers, many suffered from being uncomfortable due to the wartime rationing. Also, children were not given any care programs. At the same time, blacks were not included from public housing. A lot of them lived in a home were indoor plumbing is not available, yet they paid rent double than what white people are paying. Blacks faced many discriminations and imbalanced actions by police. Basically, the main cause of this riot is because of the segregation and the unfair treatment of society to black people. 2.James Baldwin talks about his dad s life story before his father passed away. He also talks about his childhood and how he does in school. He also talked about how he grew up during segregation and for him not being able to eat at the diners. Graffiti As A Sustainable And Decent Art Form In modern societies, there are ongoing debates among multiple stakeholders regarding the nature and acceptability of graffiti as a sustainable and decent art form. Having gained immense popularity in urban environments, graffiti has always been on the verge between art and vandalism. The reason for such controversial perceptions lies in the definition of graffitiand its origins. As Campos defines it, graffiti and street artcould be considered a practice through which individuals appropriate the cityand whose nature is consistently described as subversive (Campos, 2015, p. 17) and illicit. That is, the subculture of graffiti implies the element of illicit artistic expression placed in public view. Manet was also known for criticizing society through his paintings such as Olympia and A Bar at the Folies Bergere , etc., which made the audience aware of how they viewed the painting. By disregarding the old aesthetic of soft lighting and moderate exposure of the female figure, Manet s sharp contrast way of painting pressures the viewer to face what is being depicted in front of them. It is for this reason, children were thought as being at the bottom of the social scale and therefore unworthy of consideration. • 25. The Effects Of Gunshot Residues On A Criminal Investigation Gunshot Residues are a critical and an important trace evidence used in a criminal investigation. Recovering and analyzing GSR evidence is carried out in order to link an individual to a certain firearm. Finding GSR on a person s hand does not necessarily mean that he/she is the one that fired the weapon. At the same time not finding any GSR particles does not prove that that person was not the shooter. Gunshot Residues can easily be transferred to various surfaces not only by being in contact with a firearm, but also shaking a handwith a person that has handled a weapon or any other ammunitioncharged components. The formation of the GSR is due to the rapid cooling of the discharge gasses and solid matter, originating from partially reacted components of the primer and propellant, as well as the metallic composition of the firearm and ammunition. The residues can be easily deposited onto the hand of the shooter and later transferred to other parts of the body such as the skin, clothing and hair. Information taken from various reports and analysis throughout the years show us that GSR are deposited on the skin (hand) immediately after the firing. The highest chance of detecting a significantly good amount of residues is within the 1st hour of the incident. In practice after 6hours GSR cannot be expected from a living person. Carl Jung investigated this realm of consciousness and discovered that human beings, as a species, encompass almost identical traits of thought under our collective unconsciousness, which is the determining component of how the world is considered in perspective, including the symbolism apparent in religion, mythology, and other historical documents. In the play, Romeo and Juliet, Shakespeare harnessed this knowledge in order to convey his ideas with text that ensured the readers understood his story and could base a personal interpretation from it. Thus, after analyzing the dreams of schizophrenic patients, ancient symbolism, mythology, religion, biology, and evolution, one can come to the conclusion that each of these areas can, in fact, be proven to have a correlating relationship with the human psyche, adapting to its conditions yet never losing its mutual and uniting bond through time and ... Following Figure 1, as we increase the [GuHCl], the absorbance band at 409nm decreases in intensity. This illustrates that proteinis unfolding. Ergo, a two state model is establish between the folded and unfolded state of myoglobin. And by applying Equation (1), it allows us to estimate the structural stability of the protein under these conditions through the equilibrium that has been established. Table 1. Further, since the conformational state of myoglobin can be describe in a two state thermodynamic model that leads to an equilibrium, it is possible to describe the transition in terms of пЃ„G as a function of the denaturing agent concentration, as shown in the second plot of Figure 2. In addition, the formulation of a linear perturbation plot permits us to calculate for the пЃ„Gounfolding of myoglobin in the absence of GuHCl, which was found to be +33.6 kJ/mol as seen in Table 1. On the other hand, the second section of the experiment involves the usage of different concentration of the magic buffer solution, which acts as the denaturing agent for the protein. As illustrated in Figure 3, the absorbance intensity at 409nm was plotted as a function of pH of the protein solution. Furthermore, this plot demonstrates that myoglobin is unfolded at lower pH. Consider at lower pH values, it seems that higher buffer concentration the protein is more unfolded because the absorbance intensity is lower than at 0.010 M buffer concentration, as shown in Figure 3. This illustrates that the magic buffer mixture is an effective denaturing agent as the concentration of the solution ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 32. Moral Hierarchy In Antigone There are many different moral levels that people have. People use reasoning that can be identified with a particular stage on Kohlberg s moral development hierarchy. The higher stages of morality are not usually achieved, according to Kohlberg. In a play called Antigone, one character, name Antigone, has a high level of morality. In Antigone, written by Sophocles, he conveys various moral hierarchy stages through character traits, reasoning, and moral development within this character Antigone is portrayed as being morally straight and obedient to higher standards. She has a high moral standard. For example, she argues to Ismene, He s my brother and yours too; and whether you will or not, I ll stand by him. (Sophocles, ll 52 53). In another instance, Antigone states, Haven t you heard? Don t you see hatred marches on love when friends, our own people, our family are treated as enemies? (Sophocles, ll 12 15). In short, she is saying that hatred is ruining her love for her brother in that Kreon is treating Polyneices like an enemy by not giving him a proper burial. This goes against Antigone s views which are that her brother deserves a burial regardless of what he did in his lifetime. This reasoning tells us that Antigone has high levels of morality her standards prove her maturity. This type of reasoning puts her at the fifth stage of Kohlberg s moral development hierarchy, which is social contract and individual rights. Stress And The Immune System Essay Stress And The Immune System The immune system is a very important part of our bodily functions as its main function is to protect the body against millions of antigens, which attack our cells and try to reproduce viruses and diseases. The immune system can protect the body in three different ways, in which are: 1. It creates a barrier that prevents the antigens from initially entering the body. 2. If the antigens do manage to enter the body, then your immune system will try to detect the virus and abolish it before it begins to spread. 3. If the virus does reproduce and begins to cause problems, your immune system is then responsible for eliminating it. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This was determined by analysing how quickly a person s wound healed. It naturally is clearly difficult to create stress within a group of participants to examine how stress does affect your immune system. Hence Kiecolt Glaser required seeking a group of participants in which naturally have high levels of chronic stress. Finally, the threats may hinder a company to gain competitive advantage or satisfy their stakeholders. Thus, there should be elaborated on strengths in order to minimize the company s threats. The natives called immigrants many different names and told them to go back where they came from while throwing things at them as they were unloading off of ships. Bill Cutting held a celebration every year to remember the day he slayed Priest Vallon. The scene shows many natives gathered around watching Cutting entertain for them with his knife skills. They celebrate and cheer as Cutting drinks a glass of alchohol that is lit on fire. Amsterdam planned to kill Cutting to avenge the death of his father. His attempts fail and Cutting starts to ask the crowd how he should kill him and punish him. The crowd goes wild, cheering and yelling out ways to punish Amsterdam. They knew who he was and that he was the son of Vallon. The Nativists took part in cruel acts to protect their interests and believed theirs were worth protecting because they were native born. They heavily mistreated immigrants to protect what they ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 55. Nancy Spero Analysis I believe I m directly contradicting the way human beings are represented in our society. I think the universal is the male. And so in my deliberately turning this around and trying to universalize the female, I tried to challenge myself to look at the world as I wanted to, as a woman artist, realizing the complexities of doing so because the world isn t really that way . Nancy Spero was born in Cleveland, Ohio, in 1926. Her early development as an artist was highly influenced by the Chicago art scene, the city from which Art Institute she graduated. Chicago s art scene was resistant to the one in New York where Abstract Expressionism was going on at the time while in Chicago figuration remained more important. Spero, while aware of Abstract Expressionism, she was also resistant to it as her main interest was painting the figurative expressionism. She believed that nothing could eradicate human presence, although she did recognize its importance, as she considered human image the most important conceptual subject. ... In her works bodies express a voice, they speak. Nancy Spero in her work engages and blends history with contemporary social issues. Women are the central subject of her work, her protagonists, being collectively represented through the ancient civilisation to the present. The past and present become interwoven. This way Spero rewrites history, the history written by men for men. She makes past present making that way history forever changeable, never complete. Her use of the same images in different situations or contexts shows this constant shift of meaning by neutralizing the images and reinventing their ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 56. The Chamber Of Commerce V. Whiting Alexandra Kulak Issue Analysis Chamber of Commerce v. Whiting 10.24.2014 Chamber of Commerce v. Whiting was a Supreme Court decision regarding the Legal Arizona Workers Act, which penalized businesses and proprietors in Arizona that hired illegal immigrants, and required that businesses check the citizenship status of their potential employees using the e verify system. Various civil rights groups as well as businesses, collectively titled Chamber of Commerce , claimed the federal Immigration Reform and Control Act preempted these statutes in the Arizona law. The state law was upheld in 2011. Immigration is a contentious issue in politics that seems to be stagnating. There is a massive population of illegal immigrants, and some people feel they should be granted amnesty, while others think they should all be deported back to their respective home countries. The question of how to handle their American born children is another issue altogether. There are many moral questions to consider. It is controversial, and some state laws, like the one in question in this court case, raise more questions about how to handle the problem of illegal immigrants and legal immigrants vying for the same opportunities. The Chamber of Commerce sued the Governor of Arizona, on the grounds that the statues in the Arizona state law went beyond what the federal law in place allowed for. It is considered politically correct to not discriminate, especially when it comes to the hiring in the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 57. Analysis Of Delirium Delirium poses many risks to the elderly population. This condition has been associated with increased mortality, long term cognitive decline, and loss of autonomy (Kukreja, Gunher, Popp, 2015, p. 655). The course of delirium is acute, and without accurate differentiation and intervention, outcomes can be deleterious (Resmick, 2016). This research question will focus on exploring the care team s knowledge about delirium prevention and assessment and its contribution to outcomes. The boolean search was completed by using search phrases delirium, assessment tools, evidence based practice, guidelines, elderly. The AND operator was used mostly to find information related to both search terms. This tactic was used to explore the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... According to Resnick (2016), there are recommendations of care that are supported by the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE). However, these guidelines are not enough. As a result, it becomes imperative to understand how to recognize delirium and develop a culture of care that consistently implements processes that prevent its occurrence. While the awareness and understanding of its impact can influence its recognition, a broader system wide approach needs to become integrated into the daily practice of geriatric patients to sustain consistent outcomes and improvements in care. The treatment options should be prefaced with knowledge sharing and education surrounding the topic of delirium with the care team. Education will need to include assessment, prevention, and management (Trogrlic et al., 2015, p. 15). Assessment components will need to include an evidence based tool that is appropriate for the population and applies to patients with and without cognitive impairments (Voyer et al., 2015). Preventive processes need to be taught, understood, and operationalized. This would include identification of reversible causes and risk factors, optimization of medications and elimination of inappropriate medications, integration of family, and team collaboration (Resnick, 2016). Management options will need to include treatment of electrolyte abnormalities, visual screening and correction for an identified impairments, ear aids, bowel ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 58. The Elephant, Ivory And Trade For many years, the population of mammals has been declining. One mammal in particular that caught my eye was the elephant. The elephant population has been decreasing significantly. One elephant species in exact has suffered more than others, which is the African elephant. In Gao and Clark s words African elephants (Loxodonta africana) are in great danger (Gao Clark, 23). This essay will review the factors that triggers humans to kill African elephants and the main cause humans are killing African elephants for. Although, humans might have valid reasons as to why they kill innocent elephants, the killing of mammals doesn t service the circumstance that the planet is losing that specific specie, which is something that it s hard to... According to Barnes, human densities were low until the16th century, right before iron tools were seen (Barnes, 179). These tools helped farmer clear their way in the forests, making it easier for them to farm (Barnes, 179). After the ivory demand from the Roman s, the Chinese started doing the same thing, demanding for ivory which is still currently growing (Barnes, 178, Gao Clark, 23). In more recent years, the ivory used has expanded in China (Gao Clark, 24). The most common way ivory is used in China is for carving as a traditional art (Gao Clark, 24). Ivory carving wasn t well known in the Chinese culture until later in the 1950 s, when ivory factories started establishing (Gao Clark, 24). Afterwards, ivory carving became a major foreign currency generating industry in cities around China (Gao Clark, 24). The industries failed a little after the Cultural Revolution that occurred in the years between 1966 and 1976 (Gao Clark, 24).
