Beauty In Bluest Eye By Pecola Breedlove
Beauty is in the Eye of the (White) Beholder
While working as a tutor for African refugee children recently, I helped an 11 year old girl create
an icon of herself online. At first, I thought it was a harmless activity until I saw she created the
icon of herself to have blue eyes, blond hair, and a great big white smile. I shifted uncomfortably,
asked her why she chose to portray herself with blue eyes. She gave me a puzzled look and
replied, they re the prettiest as if it was the most obvious answer in the world. I immediately was
taken aback that she idealized herself with these white features; a little girl who was so influenced
by the mainstream media of images from Frozen, Disney Channel, and Pixar. Although the
inclusivity of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Beauty is equated with happiness and success by Pecola who feels ugly and ashamed of her own
brown hair and brown skin; a contrast from mainstream media idolized beauty. She feels all her
troubles would be solved if she only had pretty blue eyes. However, this brings to question: who
decided that to be white, blond and blue eyed was deemed to be the most beautiful? Racist
undertones of White supremacy are prevalent in Morrison s story as these ideals of beauty are
challenged. The toxicity of this ideal of beauty is especially poignant in Bluest Eye where
Pecola s naivetГ© is taken advantage of in her desperate desire to be happy, cared for, and
beautiful. Her final breaking point, believing she was given blue eyes by a religious man who
claimed to fulfill dreams, is a shocking and disturbing consequence to Morrison s commentary
about racial shame of beauty. Pecola goes mad, still unsatisfied that she has the bluest eyes , and
quickly loses touch with reality after her devastating traumas and rejections. Society has failed
Pecola when she was most in need of help. Pecola s silence about her madness reflects a wider
issue of the inarticulation of internalized racial hatred. The characterizations of these double
standards for beauty are summed up by Morrison in Bluest Eye. The result is a complex multi
level set of identity issues. It is a spiraling downward effect away from happiness when

Epilogue To Marcel s Last Memory
Saban broke the silence as Marcel tried to evade being followed, What about the escape line? It is
not an option just yet, Marcel said as he alternated watching the road and the rearview mirror.
Saban took a deep breath, exhaled, closed his eyes, and shook his head. Shit! What is wrong? asked
Saban. I believe we are being followed. What are you going to do? Be quiet and let me think.
Marcel grabbed a pistol from his waistband, flipped off the safety, and held it in his hand as a dark
colored sedan sped close to the rear of their auto. The sedan pulled alongside with the window
rolled down and a man yelled from inside, Pull over! Marcel glanced at the sedan and saw a man
with a pistol pointed at him. So he slowed, moved... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

leaned in and checked the handcuffs. When they looked at him, he smiled and gave a nod of
approval. After settling in the front seat with the agent, Marcel grabbed a carton of cigarettes
from under the seat, removed a pack, and replaced the carton. He smacked the end of the pack on
the dashboard to tighten the tobacco, opened the pack, removed a cigarette, lit it, inhaled, rolled
his window down slightly, and blew the smoke out. The agent declined an offer of a cigarette, so
Marcel started the auto, shoved it in gear, and drove

Living Conditions ( World Bank )
living conditions (World Bank). The rationale behind the large loan is the boost in temporary
employment, the importance of using municipal government agents, and overall implementing
structural changes that in turn would transform the state of Gabon in the long run. Other actions
that have been taken include implementing social safety nets as a form of addressing the poverty
associated with inequality. Programs such as Carte d indigent only focused on short term transfers
such as free medicine, food, family allowance, and cash in order to temporarily reduce the number
of those under the poverty line (World Bank PRE). Unfortunately, these transfers were solely
dependent on government funding and the shrinking social budget made the program practically
worthless today. An emphasis can also be placed on the roots of inequality; poor governance with
faulty transparency and a regime with various ties to privileged inner circles in France and
domestically, leads the World Bank to classify Gabonas a rent based economy (World Bank PRE).
The emphasis on rent denotes the importance of how much inequality actually influence the
economy in Gabon, especially when those additional profits come from manipulation of the rules
and institutions to begin with. It is also important to note that the distinctions between urban and
rural poverty have yet to be officially documented through an effective survey or metric. The reality
is that a significant majority of Gabon does reside in

The Story of Joseph in the Bible and the Koran Essay
Joseph: From the Hebrew Bible and the Koran
The Bible and the Koran are both glorious books of the world s most flourishing religious cultures,
Christianity and Islam respectively. At first glance, when you read the story of Joseph from the
Hebrew bible and the Koran, they fundamentally seem to talk about similar ideals and storylines.
They, however, have some deep seated differences, that may be a little philosophical in nature or
might depend on the particular paragraph that we re comparing.
The story of Joseph in the Bible begins with explanations of Joseph s youth and innocence and
how his brothers were jealous of him because he was the blessed son . It involves a lot of
specifics, like it mentions that Joseph was seventeen years ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Similar views are expressed in the Bible but much more subtly.
Moving on to the part where Joseph is cast into the pit by his brothers, one major difference that I
noticed is the mention of names in the bible, each instance and message has a name behind it, the
mention of Reuben, Judah, Benjamin etc, this however is missing from the Koran where all the
brothers are referred to as one conglomerate. The mention of the brothers separately is important in
this context because clearly Reuben thought differently than the others and Judah was more like
the leader so we can t possibly refer to all of them as one. Further on, in the Hebrew bible, Joseph is
sold off to the Ishmaelites, on the other hand , in the Koran he is discovered by passing caravans.
Comparisons can me made by accounting the part where Joseph s master s wife tries to seduce
him too; in the Hebrew bible, Joseph is accused falsely and sent off to prison whereas in the
Koran, the master acknowledges that his wife is the cunning one, This is but one of your tricks.
Your cunning is great indeed! Joseph, say no more about this. Woman, ask pardon for your sin. You
have done wrong. (p1448). The consequent imprisonment of Joseph is slightly different in both the
stories too.
While in prison, the interactions Joseph has with the prison mates are

Essay On How Did The Byzantine Empire And The Spread Of...
In the 10th century between the years of 1237 to 1480 B.C.E., Russia converted to the Christian
religion but did not convert to the Catholic Church practices. Russia was a member of the
Byzantine Eastern Orthodox Church. The religion of the Byzantine power was founded by
Constantine, but it ended in 1453. The major differences in the Catholic and Orthodox churches
were church governors. In the Catholic Church, the pope was in charge of Catholics, and the
patriarchs (who functioned as arch bishops) governed the Byzantines. The practice of
Caesaropapism (emperor of head of church and state...no pope) was introduced to Russiaand was a
legacy in the Byzantine Church, and Russia applied it to their government.

Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (USDA)
Food insecurity is a term that was introduced by the United States Department of Agriculture
(USDA). The USDA labels the insecurity based on the severity with four different groups. One
group is the Low Food Security; which means low quality, desirability or variety but no or little
reduction of food. Very Low Food Securityis reduced foodintake and multiple disruptions of eating
patterns. The opposite spectrum is High Food Security. This is no food limitations or no issues
accessing food. Marginal food security is sufficient supply of food with some concern of ability to
supply. (USDA, https://www.ers.usda.gov/topics/food nutritionassistance/food security in the us

Understanding The Family Dynamics, And School Preparation
Dr. Sampson, Black and Brown: Race, Ethnicity, and School Preparation gives great insight into
understanding the family dynamics which relate to parental educational involvement. To the credit
of research design, I believe the case studies presented on youth living poor from low income
communities adequately assesses the needs of students. It is also a strength of Dr. Sampson
research that information is given on how parents can engage in their children s educationalthough
they may be in the midst of poverty and lack. By actually showing ways in which low income
families produce cultural and social capital, Dr. Sampson creates an even playing ground for parent
participation and shows that low income families alike possess a great deal of knowledge, skill
and care for educational success. One of Dr. Sampson overarching ideas is that children and
influences by parents attitude and (or) behavior. There are many variables that influence student
achievement, I agree with Dr. Sampson that attitudes and behavior is perhaps the foundation for
achievement outcomes. Common practices such as parents helping with home work and properly
supervising children are referenced as key supports for academic success.
Other strengths of Dr. Sampson arguments include the critical assessment that community
organization, families and schools need to collaborate in effort to foster greater academic
achievement in students. By acknowledging all actors that create various learning environments for

The Classical Cultures Of China Vs. China
India vs China The classical civilizations of China and India were two of the most important and
extant civilizations with major political development. The advanced technology like the ox drawn
plows, paper, silk roads, etc shaped China s development. India was manifested by artistry, trade,
and exceptional advances in mathematics. There were three main dynasties in classical China
known as the Zhou, Qin, and Han Dynastywhile India was founded by three empires: the Mauryan,
Kushan, and Gupta empires. Even though these civilizations evolved around the same time, there
are crucial differences and similarities. Religion, beliefs, hierarchical and patriarchal systems, and
government reveal the distinction between the two civilizations. Confucianismand Daoism were the
major belief systems in classical China that shaped their society. These belief systems were not
exactly religions;they were created to teach individuals how to live life. Confucianism was
introduced by Confucius, also known as Kung Fuzi, around 570 BCE. It focused on reverence for
elders, self humility, and respect for rulers and the people being ruled. During the reign of Wu
Ti, he emphasized values of Confucian philosophy and recorded the Confucian doctrine in a book
called The Analects. The problems Confucius set out to rectify, notably political disorder, were
approached through an emphasis on individual virtuous behavior (World Civilizations The Global
Experience). When the Han Dynasty was first founded, it was heavily influenced by Shi Huangdi,
a brutal and strict leader of the Qin Dynasty who ruled people under many rules and regulations.
Confucius wanted to terminate that method of ruling and knock some sense into people on how to
live life without brutality. Instead of living under hundreds of regulations/laws, Confucius
developed a sense of shame that changed the society as a whole. People began to understand
morals and values which formulated peace and prosperity. As a result, the Mandate of Heaven was
passed which stated that the ruler is blessed by Gods and once the ruler becomes too corrupt, the
dynasty would collapse. Contrary to Confucianism, legalism indicated that only rules and
regulations would create order in a

Separtion of Church and State Essay
The Constitution of the United States was written to give citizens certain privileges and rights in
the way of free thought and freedom. The Establishment Clause was one way that civilians were
protecting religious liberty by the separation of church and state. Within our political and school
systems there have been a number of controversial issues to include religious holidays, school
prayer, teaching evolution and aid to church based schools. The Supreme Court has ruled in many
cases in regards to these religious controversial issues. The First Amendment states Congress shall
make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or

The wall of separation that maintains between state and church in the Constitution was viewed and
the Blacks questioned the state s interest in expeditiously and safely getting the kids to the
schools needed. In the end it was ruled to get the kids to school safely. Often in parochial schools
parents are given vouchers to help pay for private schools. Some say this is an issue regarding the
Establishment clause. In 1973 Committee for Public Education v. Nyquist, the high court
invalidated a New York state program that provided tuition reimbursements to poor parents whose
children attended private schools, 85% of which were religious (Leaming, n.d.). The courts ruled
that New York had a primary effect of advancing religion. Since Nyquist the voucher programs are
one step closer to being recognized as constitutional through the Supreme Court. The Constitution
permits vouchers to be available for both religious and private schools through the government.
School vouchers also raised arguments from opponents and proponents. Opponents raised concern
that talented students were pulled from public schools which lowered their quality of learning
while the proponents claimed their children would receive a much better education. In 1962 Engel
Et Al v. Vitale Et Al case were Prayer in the Public schools was a violation of the First Amendment s

Class and Social Difference in Blood Brothers by Willy...
In the play Blood Brothers Willy Russell explores the differences between a working class
family and a middle class family during the downturn of industry in Liverpool in the 1960 and
70 s, resulting in The Recession in the early 1980 s. There is a twist on the fact that they are just
two opposite class families Mickey and Edward. They are two genetically identical twins; however
Mickey was brought up in a working class family and Eddie in a middle classfamily. By using these
two complete extremes, Russell has explored the history of the British class system in a very
extreme way. Seeing the different class upbringings teaches us about Nature vs. Nurture in society.

This obviously immediately gives us the impression that Edward is from a middle or upper class
family because he uses so much formal language, even when saying bad things. By using this
strong language in their first meeting it gives the audience a clear view of the extremes in the
classes. The audience can find the first meeting quite funny because the actors play the two
extremes in quite humorous ways. Initially this can make the difference in class seem quite a
light subject when really, as we find out later in the play, it is an enormously important subject. I
think Russell is positively biased towards Mickey in this first meeting of the boys, possibly
because Mickey is from a lower class family and so was Russell. I think Russell is biased
because Mickey is bragging for the small things he loves to play with. However, even though
Edward probably has more than Mickey he doesn t make a show of it. Russell has made this first
meeting a very bold statement, as the boy s don t seem to show a difference between each other
in this first scene, they seem like two, normal, seven year old friends even though the difference
between the two classes is very obvious. I think this helps to introduce the differences lightly to
draw the audience in, so that they are ready for the drama that comes, later on in the play.
As the boys grow older, their different classes become more significant to the play. Edward goes off

What Is The Role Of Kabuki
Kabuki (жЊи€
ћдјЋ) presents one of the most popular forms of traditional theatre in Japan with
roots tracing back to the Edo Period. The root of the word kabuki presents its definition clearly as it
contains three Chinese characters: ka means song, bu means dance and ki means prostitute. Hence
kabuki is the combination of music, dance and dialogues. The inventor of kabukiis one of the
dancers of Shinto temple, Okuni in 1603. Therefore kabuki used to be acted only by women till
1629. It involves elaborately designed costumes, eye catching make up, outlandish wigs, and
arguably most importantly, the exaggerated actions performed by the actors. Its plots are usually

Nowadays this form of performance is spread all over the world especially in European and
Western countries.
In the beginning women were active players of kabuki, but gradually it caused moral corruption in
the theatre. The government prevented women from taking part as actresses to elevate kabuki`s
level from sensuality to spirituality. As the result young men were replaced instead of women for
playing the feminine roles. This group of men was titled as Wakashu. However it was not a proper
solution since homosexuality appeared among actors. This absence of women was occurred in
Shakespearian dramas too as they considered them socially inferior with no right to participate in
public activities.
James. R. Brandon and Samuel .L. Leiter stated: It is commonly said that the chief aim of kabuki
is to be beautiful . The kabuki term`s homonym, kabukimono means the people who wore strange
costumes and passed the streets proudly, in the same way kabuki actors used odd cloths and make
ups according to their characters. The variety of their odd cloths caused many difficulties for actors

Anti Doping Negatives
The purpose of this report is to outline how WADA (World Anti Doping Agency) and ASADA
(Australian Sport Anti Doping Authority, 2017) outline the positives and negatives of anti
doping and how these affect the players and stakeholders. Another point that will be discussed is
how these policies work and if they can be change. Doping is when athletes take performance
enhancing drugs in order to become better at their sport. Doping was first used by the ancient
romans in gladiator sports. (Harvard, 2017 Oct 9) The term doping comes from the Dutch word
dop , which was an alcoholic beverage used by South African Zulu warriors (Harvard, 2017 Oct
9) Doping is becoming more wide spread due to the fact that athletes want to be better than
everyone else. Money is playing a huge reason in why people are doping. More sponsors more
money. So once one person starts doping another person will. Just so they can be the best at
their particular sport. Some examples of substances that are used include steroids which
increases your testosterone will give you muscle growth, endurance and your performance
more, blood doping which is less common but manly used in cycling is when you boost the
amount of red blood cells in your system so it carry s more oxygen to your muscles, analgesics
are used to relieve pain when you are injured which enables you to train while injured so you stay
fit and healthy. (Reuters Kelland, K. (2017) These are just some examples of doping. There are

Social Action Theories Essay
Social action theories are known as micro theories which take a bottom up approach to studying
society; they look at how individuals within society interact with each other. There are many forms
of social action theories, the main ones being symbolic interactionism, phenomenology and
ethnomethodology. They are all based on the work of Max Weber, a sociologist, who acknowledged
that structural factors can shape our behaviour but individuals do have reasons for their actions. He
used this to explain why people behave in the way in which they do within society. Weber saw four
types of actions which are commonly committed within society; rational, this includes logical plans
which are used to achieve goals, traditional customary behaviour,... Show more content on

Labelling theory has also been used to apply the interactionist theory to society; the theory, like
Mead, emphasises the importance of symbols and situations in which they are used. The main
interactionist concepts are the definition of the situation if we believe in something then it could
affect the way in which we behave. The looking glass self this was created by Cooley who argues
that we see ourselves in a way in which we think others see us. These concepts have been useful in
explaining why people act in certain ways in certain situations; therefore, the labelling theory is
effective in the study of society.
Overall, in conclusion, there are many different social action theories which can be used in the
study of society, however, not all of them can be applied to all

Marginalia Billy Collins Summary
In the poem Marginalia , by Billy Collins takes a look at the marginal notes written in books. The
marginal notes are seen as a communication between the reader and the words in the book. The
note sometimes can be negative because they are a way of releasing frustration with the work,
especially if not well received, but sometimes they are a way of celebrating on the work. [The
narrator asserts students to join the conversation with author s words by writingmarginal notes;
however, one may say it proves to be a distraction, It causes readers to pre judge a book and lastly,
it prevents one from understanding the text.]
Marginal notes can be viewed as distractions to new owners of passing down texts. They are,
Sometimes the notes are ferocious, (Collins) when the narrator refers to ferocious, This implies that
the previous owner wrote comments in discontent. When the notes symbolize discontent they prove
to be a distraction because people instead of focusing on the text will start reading the comments
therefore getting disoriented and not focusing the text. When he refers , If i could just get my
hands on you, Kierkegaard or Conor Cruise O Brien this implies he could be doing something better
than reading their works. It also means, as the new reader sees the text may see their writings on the
margin and wonder why the previous owner wrote that and may get lost or impede him from
understanding and acknowledging the text and interpret the text from the actual meaning.

of them fully explain the disorder. In this essay I will explain the assumptions made in the
psychoanalytic and biological theories around depression.
The field of psychoanalysis, founded by Sigmund Freud, views mental conditions and disturbances
depression included as coming from often forgotten childhood experiences rooted into one s
subconscious. One of Freud s early psychoanalytic theories regarding depression was the child
turning guilt ridden anger on the self, meaning that a child s dissatisfaction with their parental
relationships would clash with their desire to impress their parents, causing them to internalise their
bitter and dissatisfied emotions. This internalisation would lead to self destructive behaviours and
depressive symptoms later in life. Several similar theories have been raised ... Show more content

Events such as the death of a loved one, financial instability, or general emotional distress all
statistically increase one s likelihood of developing depression, and both of the theories that I have
discussed fail to account for the influence that these current events may have on an individual s
mental health. The psychoanalytical approach focuses only on early childhood, while the
biological approach does not take any life events at all into account. Psychoanalysis assumes that
depression is rooted in early childhood with little evidence to support this assumption. The
biological approach, while still erasing the effect that life events can have on depression, provides
much more valid scientific evidence to strengthen its theories. Because of this, I believe the
biological approach to be a more sound

Analysis Of Absurd By Albert Camus
Presumably, since the beginning of time, we, as human beings, have tirelessly sought out answers
toward a greater, predetermined and/or significant purpose in our lives. The question is still
unanswered, but the desire remains what is the point? The contradiction between searching for
order, reason or existential purpose and the inability to find any type of purpose in an essentially
meaningless and indifferent universe is what French philosopher, Albert Camus, considered
Absurd. Any hopeful searching for concrete meanings is met with the discouraging and
disheartening realization that there are no true meanings. For many of us, the idea of the world
being made with no fated purpose or that any individual effort made toward changing the... Show

In the show, both title characters, Rick and Morty, inhabit expendable worlds that are easily
replaceable with the push of Rick s self created portal gun. Any species perception of self

Morty may be on the idea of destroying a planet and its inhabitants by the Cromulons, a species
of enormous floating heads introduced in the episode, Get Schwifty, appears as an act of
wickedness and cruelty. For the Cromulons, destroying planets and its inhabitants is a form of
entertainment as they are hosts of an intergalactic game show where planets are picked and its
inhabitants must create and sing a song in order to make it to the next round or be faced with
watching their worlds end. Think of this episode as an episode of NBC s America s Got Talent,
but with giant floating boulder textured heads, with egos that are bigger than the combination

episode where the citizens of Earth questioned their religious beliefs, eventually tying a thief, a

King Lear Tragic Hero Essay
A tragic hero is said to be an imperfect character of noble stature, a character with a downfall
caused by an error of judgement which is not deserved, and a self realization from the downfall.
King Lear from the play King Lear fits this description of a tragic hero. King Lear is a tragic play
written by Shakespeare. King Lear is depicted as a tragic herobecause of his high status, his
downfall which was caused by himself, and his realization from his downfall. King Lear is
portrayed as a tragic hero partially because of his imperfectness. Throughout the play, King Lear
makes many mistakes, which show his imperfections. His mistakes eventually led to his insanity.
He does not even want ot go insane. He says, O, let me not be mad, not mad, sweet heaven keep
me in temper: I would not be mad! (I v 1 2). In the end of the play, Lear s insanity leads to his
demise. When he meets Cordelia... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Aristotle believes that a tragic hero s downfall is his/her own fault. He also believes that this
decision was made by choice and not by force. King Lear truly fits this description. King Lear s
downfall was dividing his land (and his crown) to his three daughters out of narcissism. Lear
wanted his daughters to tell him how much they loved him. He did this by choice, not knowing
how evil two of his daughters, Goneril and Regan, really were and how they did not actually
love him. His obliviousness was his flaw and trusted his daughters too much. However, King
Lear disowned his youngest daughter, Cordelia, even though she was the one who love him
most. Lear is outraged when she does not tell him how much she loves him. King Lear says
Ingratitude, thou marble hearted fiend, more hideous when thou show st thee in a child than the
sea monster! (I iv 4 6). He mistook her honesty for lack of respect, which partially led to his
downfall as well. By the end of the play, Lear s mistakes caused him to go

A traditional ceremony consists of feeding friends and visitors attending, the wedding ceremony
would take place in the hogan with the groom and his father or uncle sitting on the west side
followed by the bride and her father or uncle. Sitting beside the boy on his right side they would
be positioned towards the east which was facing the door. Starting with the girl she would pour
water onto the boy s hands and he would wash them, then he would do the same to her washing
her hands, this symbolized purity and cleansing. A medicine man would then pray quietly while
arranging a corn meal mush decorated with pollen, they would then take turns eating the mush
starting with the boy followed by the girl. Usually they were instructed to eat it all, but if it was
not all eaten it would be passed to each of the boys family members so they could have a bite.
Once the mush was eaten the mother of the boy would keep the basket where the mush had been
and preserve it at all times, this was important to a successful marriage. Traditional weddings were
held at night, but modern traditions allow them to be held in the daytime, and because of this
some believe it is the reason for divorce and family problems. Once the wedding ceremony was

Child Sex Trafficking In The United States
Child sex trafficking is the profitable sexual act induced by force, fraud, coercion or a person is
lured to have sex before they reach 18 years of age. It includes all the activities of recruiting,

involuntarily, through servitude, debt bondage, peonage or slavery. Due to advanced technology, it

Examples Of Satire On Smoking
Satire It s not surprising that in this world you see at least one person a day smoking. I mean,
who doesn t love watching people rush to get lung cancer? Seeing one person just taking their
life away with something so stoppable, is so adorable, I mean what other qualities would you
look for in a man? I like mine fully addicted and ready to waste their life away. It s the best
religion that I must say so myself. In fact, I like that, people rely on something like religion to
lead them in the way they want to live their life. I personally believe in the smokies. The
smokinese are a group of people that worship nicotine. Id honestly love to be a part of that. I mean,
I love the smell of it in the air, the feeling of polluted air. Nothing gets better than that. In reality
smokingis the only relief to take away pain these days. I mean, what other reason would people
put something so horrible into their body if it didn t relieve any type of stress or good feeling. I
live for the day to see everyone to have lung cancer and killing themselves for just being
vulnerable about stress relief. I mean, people preach smoking nowadays. People wanna go back
to the way of smoking in a restaurant and people recommend it, it s a religion that s being created
without anyone understanding. As the smokinese people believe that the only way to live a happy
and stress free life is to become addicted to smoking, they sure are right. I mean, think about it, out

seemed not to agree with the likable side of her. The media somehow managed to portray her as
untrustworthy and maybe this could be blamed on her communication team. As mentioned earlier,
Mrs. Clinton did not seem to have a clear message on why she was running for the highest office in
the land. Mrs. Clinton needed to articulate her own agenda and stop demonizing Mr. Trump. Her

Clinton s loss in 2016 presidential elections considered as a second greatest political upset of all
time after Harry Truman s victory in 1948. Mrs. Clinton was a seasoned politician with the
backing of a sitting government, huge financial resources, and a huge following. Her opponent,
Mr. Trump, on the other hand, was an inexperienced outsider, with neither a military nor a
political background. During the campaign period, Mr. Trump made numerous gaffes and
managed to insult about every ethnic group in America. He faced accusations of sexual assault
from twelve women and at some point, there was even a video of him speaking and bragging of
sexually harassing women. On paper, Mr. Trump was the easiest opponent to beat, and yet, to the
surprise of many political pundits, he defeated Mrs. Clinton. Democrats and political pundits
have looked for reasons as to why Mrs. Clinton lost and it really comes down to a series of
strategic mistakes by her campaign team and Mrs. Clinton s message or lack of it, and trust. Mrs.
Clinton s team failed to come up with strategies that would have led to a huge turnout of the
Democratic Party s support base. Secondly, Mrs. Clinton did not have a clear message as to why

Olmsted was good at what he did, as says in the above paragraph. He wins landscaping design

American landscape architecture, felt all the pains of city living and made it his vocation to

Olmsted saw the not so peacefulness of the city life. Compare streets of cars and gas, to green

2.1.1 Secured Communications
Security and privacy are not new concepts. At 400 BC the Greeks used a transposition cipher.
Individual letters were written on a long thin sheet of paper and then wrapped around a cylinder.
The diameter of the cylinder was the key to find out the original letter. In this context, I find it
necessary to give some definitions of related vocabulary in this field.
Plain text or PT is the original message that we need to send. Usually we do not want others to be
able to know our original message.
Cipher text or CT is the encrypted plain text which is not readable for others.
Encryption is the process of changing a secret message (plain text) into a disguised one (cipher text).
Decryption is the process of changing the Cipher text back to the original Plain text.
Cryptography (literally means secret writing) is the science encompassing the principles and

its original form.
cryptanalysis the study of principles and methods of transforming a CT message back into a PT

Crow Lake Essay
Introduction
The Canadian novel Crow Lake by Mary Lawson, published in 2002, was awarded in Canada as
First Novel Award in the same year it was published and won the McKitterick Prize in 2003. The
author Mary Lawson was born and brought up in a small farming community in southern Ontario.
After graduating from McGill University, she moved to England in 1968. She still lives there with
her husband and sons, though she returns to Canada every year. The story took place in a small
town called Crow lake in northern Ontario. In this book Kate Morrison, the main character, leads
the reader through her journey for healing from past mistakes dealing with her family. At the
beginning, Kate who is seven, and her siblings Luke, Matt, and Bo, experienced a tough time
surviving after their parents were killed in a car crash, which impacted them for the rest of their
lives. Setting
The setting of the novel starts in Northern Ontario. This is important to the author, Mary Lawson,
because the elegance of the countryside inspired her to set her novel setting there. When Katie
Morrison grows up, the setting change to Toronto because she wanted to become a zoologist. One
of the things that led to the significance of setting to the plot is the ponds, because they were full
of Kate s memory about childhood and family. They were her favorite places before she grew up.

Stress In The Baboons
This episode features Stanford University s Neurobiologist, Robert Sapolsky, who has a high
understanding of stress and how it affects our not just our health, but our bodies. The main point
Robert is conveying to the audience states that stress leads to serious health consequences, such
as high blood pressure, weakened immune system, fatigue, development of fat and even the
shortening of life expectancy. Robert Sapolsky researches the science behind human stress by
exploring non human primates, the baboons in their natural habitat in Kenya, Africa. After thirty
years of research, Sapolsky believes that baboons are apparently the perfect source of
exemplifying human stress because they are naturally aggressive toward one another, including
their offspring, and the pain and stress factors appear to be the same in humans; especially
dealing with stressful jobs and verbally abusive bosses. In the baboon s case, if you are a full
controlled male, you can expect lower stress levels, and if you are the submissive, abused baboon,
the stress level can be much higher. The only way Robert can take a look at the serious health
consequences related to human stress in the baboon is by taking the unsuspecting submissive
monkey s blood and examining the stress hormones in the lab. The results of a submissive baboon
revealed high blood... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Zoloft can be taken with other drugs and will not have any synergistic effects. Furthermore there
are no antagonistic effects, when you take Zoloft there is no other drug that counteracts it that
will make you depressed. Zoloft is not necessarily an addictive drug if taken properly. If a person
takes the drug more than the prescription says and if taken at random times they can become
addicted. Other than that Zoloft is not an addictive drug, if users listen to their doctor when they
say how much to take mostly likely they will not become addicted. In some cases people who
take Zoloft become reliant on it because if they do not take it anymore they will fall back into
depression. When they become reliant they become addicted and it becomes extremely hard to
stop taking it. However these addictive effects in most cases are not physical but psychological
addicting because the drug is the only reason the user is staying normal. A treatment for Zoloft
addiction is that your doctor will begin to prescribe smaller doses over and long period of time
to get the user to become used to taking less. This process will continue until the patient is no
longer reliant on Zoloft. Zoloft is a great drug to use for patients with depression. Patients must
make sure to take the correct dosage and listen to their doctor to insure they do not get certain side

Artificial Intelligence Or Ai Is A Science Of Machines
Artificial intelligence or AI is a science of machines. Machines are set up to perform functions
that would require brain power and decision making. These machines have been designed to
solve math problems, play games, assemble products and can be a form of communication. The
basis of the story is to understand whether robots can think or function like humans. Humans deal
with things on an everyday basis not knowing what the outcome will be. There are also
information sensitive creatures such as digital computers. A computer is given information, stores
what has been received and produces an outcome. In the end, a human is the one to program the
computer to provide the information. There has always been a comparison between human minds
and computers, but this has caused a great deal of debate. For instance a computer has to be fed
information in order to produce an outcome. The information has to be fed by a human, but the
effectiveness depends on what the programmer is trying to accomplish. The first article talks two
robots names Harry and Henrietta. Harry is a humanoid form that communicates just a human on
any subject. People may believe that he is really human. But one cannot really say whether he is
human or not based on the actions that is displayed just like a real live person. Harry does not

Comparing Medieval and Rennaisance Paintings Essay
Comparing Medieval and Rennaisance Paintings
In the following essay I shall compare and contrast paintings from the medieval and renaissance
period.
Medieval paintings were very realistic and precise.
The king in the painting is in the middle, and anything painted in the middle is the center of
attraction or the important object in the painting. To prove this theory, I looked at the painting and
the first thing that caught my eye is the king. The human body is not too detailed but the actions
they are doing or intend to do are very clear. The painter created visual space in this painting in a
very witty way; he painted pillars and ceiling ornaments, which is an indication of height and space.

In the following paragraph I shall briefly describe the renaissance painting. This painting is based
on the story of a poor man who couldn t pay his taxes. Then Jesus told him to go to a certain place
where he should cut open a fish and there he shall find a silver coin to pay his taxes with. He did
so and paid his taxes. On the left of the painting you can see the barrel of fish, one of the fish is
where he got the silver coin. In the middle Jesus is explaining the situation to the people. Masaccio
always painted the most important things in the middle. On the right the man is paying his taxes.
There are many things that the two paintings had in common some of the reasons are: It is
similar in the layout, A good example would be the objects in the middle. Jesus and the king are
in the middle and obviously they are the main characters in the painting. There is also lots of
visual space on both paintings e.g.: mountains, pillars. This is the case because the renaissance is
the rebirth of the classics and the classics were basically the medieval paintings. So the renaissance
paintings were in a way based on the medieval ones.
Renaissance paintings also differed from medieval ones. The Renaissance painting is laid out in a
way which tells a story, however the medieval one is showing an event which is virtually a fact or
a point.
The Renaissance painting shows more detail than the medieval one and better use of

My sample will include between fifty and sixty, Year One and Two, pupils who will be observed
in the classroom. Additionally, my sample will also include between ten and twenty members of
Key Stage One staff, who I will informally interview about their views on attitudes towards learning
in Key Stage One.
The data collection methods that I have opted to use for my project, have all been specifically
chosen and designed to present me with the best chance of obtaining a detailed scope of data. One
of my data collection methods is informal interviews, which will, hopefully, give me an accurate
insight into the views of Key Stage One staff; who have experienced differing attitudes towards
learning. Informal interviews are most suited to my project as Fraenkel, Wallen and Hyun (2014,
p.449) discuss how informal interviews can resemble casual conversations whilst allowing the
researcher to find out what people think and how the views of one individual compare with those of
another .
Another data collection method, that I have chosen, is observations of the pupils. Firstly, I will
ask the teacher of the class if any of the pupils have any learning difficulties, as Hannell (2014,
pp.212 215) raises the fact that learning difficulties and/or differences can have an immense effect
on attitudes towards learning. If any of the pupils have got any learning difficulties/differences, this

Why Is The First Amendment Important
The first amendment states your basic liberties. It is one of the most important bills in the bill
of rights. These basic liberties are freedom of religion, freedom of speech, freedom of the press,
freedom of assembly, and freedom to petition the government. This amendment also has a lot of
historical significance and there are a lot of court cases today that involve this amendment.
There are also quite a few current issues involving the first amendment. Freedom of Religion
means that the government can t force you to accept only one set of religious beliefs or the way
you worship. You can worship your own way and have your own religious beliefs as long as they
don t violate other people s rights. Today this is a very big debate when it comes to prayer and
schools. Several cases have been brought to the Supreme Court about this and whether students
have the right to pray in class or if the prayer would interfere with another student s rights.... Show

The freedom of speech enables people to state their opinions openly and try to convince others to
change their minds, but it doesn t prevent social of peer pressure to conform to what others think.
The freedom of speech also does not include making or distributing obscene materials, burning
draft cards as an anti war protest, students making obscene speeches at a school sponsored event,
or the ability for students to advocate illegal drug use at a school sponsored event. It also does not

Gbstetric Performance Assessment
The performance measure is to improve patient satisfaction scores on the unit. Our goals are to
increase HCAPHS scores, to achieve this goal we will be implementing an anonymous patient
satisfaction survey for parents that will be given at of discharge. Results from this survey will
provide feedback on ways to improve patient care. As a result, it will improve HCAPHS scores for
the hospital, thereby increasing hospital reimbursement and revenue.
Quality
The quality measure is to decrease the time between admission and the administration of
intravenous antibiotics to infant whose mothers are GBS positive. Our goal is to decrease
infection rates, length of stay and decrease the incidence of morbidity and mortality rates. This
goal will be achieved by implementing a golden hour guidelines that will be initiated on admission
once orders are placed for blood cultures and antibiotics. The guidelines can also be used for septic
work ups on the unit.
Patient Safety ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This can be accomplished by implementing a monthly handwashing initiative on the unit that would
consist of completing five anonymous evaluations a month. Staff can enter their names into a
drawing on the unit, winners will receive a prize for their participation. The increase in consistent
handwashing between patients will reduce mortality and morbidity rates, reduce length of stay,
reduce infection rates therefore increasing reimbursement for the hospital.
Employee Engagement:
The employee engagement measure is to increase number of certified nurses with RNC NIC or
CCRN designation. This will be accomplished by implementing a certification class for interested
nurses on the unit. Success of this certification class will aide in improving the level of nursing
knowledge on the unit, also increasing NDNQI scores and help in maintaining our Magnet
designation as a hospital.

Wildlife Animals And Indigenous People
Both wildlife animals and Indigenous people resided in Canada long before European
colonization took place, and both have suffered from these invaders oppressive practices as a result
of the dispute over territory. Because of this, many newcomers to Canada has this preconceived
notion that the place is only associated with vast wildernesslandscapes and that wildlife is
constitutive of Canadianness (Francis 1997). This is played out in many Canadian films which
portray stereotypical images of the country. In particular, this essay will highlight Indigenous
people and wildlife interaction with urban spaces and the wilderness in The Wolfpen Principle
(1974) and North of 60 (Southern Comfort), while also exploring the conflict between urban
dwellers and their environment. Most Canadian filmmakers continuously depict the place as a
wilderness area, filled with wild animals and Indigenous people. This idea is socially constructed
and is normalize to reinforce the idea that certain people and animals should belong or excluded
from natureand urban spaces. In parks, wolf tourism is usually portrayed as a wilderness experience
where humans dominate animals and nature. Yet, according to Kellert s (1985) research,
associating the wilderness with wolves has increased their stigmatization, thus resulting conflicts
over who belongs where. If the wolves are not exterminated, they are instead taken from their
natural environmentand moved to an altered landscape where they have

Testing is Overrated Essay
Students dread the time of the year when they stop with their course material and begin to prepare
for test. Everyone is in agreement that some type of revolution is needed when it comes to
education; eliminating standardized test will aid the reform. The need for standardized testing has
proven to be ineffective and outdated; some leading educationalist also believe this because the
tests do not measure a student s true potential. This will save money, stop labeling, and alleviate
stress in students and teachers.
Now more than ever, money is scarce and one way to increase this money supply is by the
elimination of standardized testing. The cost for standardized testing in 2nd graders is roughly
estimated to be between $2 $4 million, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These tests tend to cause the student s too much stress and puts pressure on them to obtain a certain
score on these test that are required on a yearly basis. Teachers also set aside too much time to teach
strategies for taking the test and lecturing on how to eliminate some choices. According to Kathy
Frandle this is A huge waste of instruction time (Fridy). Furthermore, the unneeded stress generally
leads to a state of anxiety and it is setting too many of them up for devastating failure and,
consequently, lowered self esteem (Perrone).
Each state teaches their students different material at different rates and this is why some states
place pressure of testing companies to dumb down the test (Margie). Each state s tests are created
by the state; therefore, they can make the test as easy as possible to make everyone succeed on it.
Some states have districts in poverty and cannot afford the best textbooks or technologies;
therefore, their students do not reach their potential. When these districts have scores that are too
low they do not receive federal grants; therefore, this puts them into a further bind.
Standardized testing does not occur at the college level where someone might assume that it would
be mandated. When someone is taking a test to enter a college, wouldn t it be logical for a

Preschooler Children Observation
Introduction: The purpose of this paper is to examine preschooler children in three areas:
cognitive development, play section, and motor skills. I conducted this observation in a classroom
in the Dillon Center during play time. The children s age ranges from 3 to 4 years old. In addition,
I hope that with this observation I get a clear understanding of the three areas I m examining in
preschool ages.
Cognitive Development: The purpose of this section of the paper is to describe the cognitive
development skills presented or not by the preschoolers. In the classroom, all children were during
play time. The classroom has different play areas, such as building, painting, car races, puzzles,
reading and others. That means that all ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
According to Berk Meyer (2016) make believe play is an example of the development of
representation in early childhood (p.312). Play detaches from the real life conditions associated
with it: During this observation, when the children were playing in the building area, they knew
that the blocks were an object but that it could represent something else, such as they were
building castles and towers. According to Berk Meyer (2016) by age 3, children can understand
that an object may take on one fictional identity in one pretend game and another fictional
identity in a different pretend game (p.312). Another group of children was playing in the toy
cars area, they were pretending that they were the ones driving the car in a race. This is an
example of sociodramatic play. According to Berk Meyer (2016), a sociodramatic play is the
make believe play with others that is under way by the end of the second year and that increases
rapidly in complexity during early childhood (p.312). Yet, I noticed that during this play time
some children struggle more than others, it was hard for some children to have an understanding
of roles in the game due to the fact that they couldn t follow the plot or where impatient to wait for
their turn. This is a skill that children master at the end of preschool years. Interestingly, despite
that many children were playing in groups, there was this one child, a boy with dark hair

Duy Huynh’S Work Has Inspired People For Years And Is Known
Duy Huynh s work has inspired people for years and is known to make a lasting impression on
people at first glance. His inspiration mainly comes from ancient folklore and comic books. While
much of his work is deeply personal, his clever and often times humorous use of symbolism and
wordplay invites the viewer to create their own storyline. There is one painting from his collections
that stood out to me more than any other painting he did, it was called Evening Echos . Evening
Echoes painting contains hidden meanings within the artwork to enhance the overall experience for
the person viewing the painting. His purpose for this painting to show the viewer the story behind
the women in the painting.

In came to this conclusion, by the way arranged the butterflies and having the trumpet the arranged
to be circular form. In addition, the moon also plays a key factor in the painting because it is
representing a cycle as well. The moon s cycle is to come up at night and go down in the morning.
I believe the women is kind of letting life past her by because she is standing in one position with
her eyes close to maybe indicate that she not making herself present during the process of the cycle.
The artist chose to highlight her, the trumpet, the moon, and the butterflies by lighting the
background surrounding them and also chose bright colors to color in the objects.
This painting contains a lot of key objects within it that helped express the moral of the painting.
One key element of the painting was the moon, the moon was used to represent a cycle, in my
opinion. The moon represents the passing of time and embodies its cycle. The moon has different
phrases throughout the years and its surface interchanges between light and dark. The light side I
believe represents immortality and source of light and hope during night time. The alternative side
of the moon represents the gorier side of the night. I believe that the moon in this picture, with
connection to the girl, that she experiencing source of hope or promise because the moon is
completely light.
The butterflies with the picture is follows along

Romeo and Juliet, the story of two ill fated lovers. In Romeo and Juliet, there are some accidents
and bad choices, but ill fate ultimately brings about the downfall of Romeo and Juliet because

Before Mercutio dies, he proclaims a plague o both your houses! (Shakespeare Act III, scene I,
line 59) Mercutio s dying curse upon the houses resonates as the voice of fate itself. (cliffsnotes)
Later in the story we see this statement become fulfill with the deaths of Tybalt, Romeo, and Juliet.
Romeo avenges Mercutio and kills Tybalt than saying O, I am fortune s fool (Act 3, Scene 1,
Line 98) and he realizes he is a helpless victim of fate (summarized cliffsnotes). Last, we can see
destiny in Romeo s dreams. Romeo had a dream that Juliet finds him dead, as shown in Act V
Scene I line 9, I dreamt my lady came and found me dead (Shakespeare). Later in the Act Romeo
buys poison, then proceeds to kill himself in Juliet s tomb. When Juliet awakes from the sleeping
potion she had, she finds that Romeo is dead. Romeo s dream anticipates the final scene of the
play when Juliet awakes and finds Romeo dead than tries to kiss the poison from his lips
(summarized cliffsnotes). Romeo and Juliet is mainly shaped by fate. This can be seen through
Romeo s bad feeling about going to the party, the death of Mercutio, and Romeo s dreams. These
events are foretelling the futures of the character, however they do not know this. If Romeo and
Juliet caught onto these foretellings they may have been able to change the outcome of the story,

Emily Dickinson Nobodies
Argumentative Writing Assignment How dreary to be somebody... How public..., (Dickinson,
stanza 1 2). In the eyes of Emily Dickinson, the writer of the cited quote, the majority of the
population embodies the distinct characteristics of what she refers to as a somebody in her poem,
I m nobody! Who are you? . Somebodies are individuals who when grouped together have few
varying characteristics between them. Though somebodies seemingly occupy most of the
population, they are countered by what Dickinson calls nobodies. Nobodies are characterized for
being solitary and introverted. These people do not need validation and are comfortable as they are.

In her poem, Dickinson say, I m Nobody! Who are you? Are you Nobody too, (Dickinson, 1 2).
While reading the text, the audience can hear that the self proclaimed nobody in the poem seems
to be astonished that they have met another nobody. Like the Nobody in the poem, today s
Nobodies, characterized by being introverts who are comfortable being themselves, seldom meet
other people whose beliefs and ideals venture far from that of pop culture. Later in the text,
Dickinson says, Don t tell! They d advertise you know, (Dickinson, 4). From this quote, the reader
can infer that when Dickinson says they would advertise the they that she is speaking of are the
somebodies. Because somebodies are so plentiful and common they make up the traditional group
and anyone whose thinking contrast to that of the somebodies thinking is put under a spotlight.
Because nobodies will always be those who venture from the norms of society, they will always be
those that are less common because they have chosen to take the road less

My wife is a lovely woman who is surrounded by people who love her, has food to eat, clothes to
wear, and a roof over her head, but often spends her time wondering about the things she doesn t
have in life. These things being jewelry, fancy clothes, lots of money, and an overall luxurious
life style. I want to give her all these things and give her a chance to go out. So I spent a very long
time working to get an invitation to The Minister of Education and Mme Georges evening

I walked inside my home, closed the door behind me,took off my coat and hung it up, walked
into the kitchen to see my wife, envelope in hand with excitement. I walk up to my wife and
greet her, I hand her the envelope and she begins to tear it open. I watch and listen as she pulls
out the envelope and begins reading it, when she s done I expect to see her face lit up with
happiness but am disappointed when I see her expression change drastically. She seems angry and
sad at the same time. Its complete silence as she throws the letter onto the table. I m about to ask if
she is ok when she stops me and murmurs the words What good is that to me?
I am almost at a lost of words and confused. But, my dear, I thought you would be thrilled to death.

A Rose in the Hall
In 1989 Pete Rose, one of baseball s greatest, lost all the respect he had gain in his successful
career. That year, the league had brought to there attention that Pete Rose was a chronic gambler.
Eventually Pete Rose ended up being banned from baseball. Now he wants a chance for a spot in
the Hall of Fame, a place for baseball s greatest. The question of whether or not Pete Rose should be
accepted into the Hall of Fame has been a source of great controversy in the baseball community.

how the commissioner of baseball will not even listen to Rose s case. Facts like these make the
reader side with Rose before even hearing each side s case. Leland appeals to the reader s emotions
in this case because most people feel that even the lowest of people deserve a second chance, a
chance for Rose to reform his lifestyles. Leland quotes Rose saying, Even Charles Manson gets a
hearing every two years . Leland agrees that Rose deserves a chance.
Leland argues that Rose is banned because he may have bet on baseball. Here he makes the
reader feel as if the case against Rose is not credible. Leland examines the case against Rose and
finds that it is flawed, and severely imbalanced. It did not present any exculpatory evidence . He
also points out, to take away from the credibility of the charges, that the Washington D.C. bar
dismissed the case after seeing the report against Rose. This information makes the reader think that

The Godfather Violence
The Godfather (1972) is a one of a kind film. I consider it one of the best American classics. This
film has it all from amazing action scenes that have you on the edge of your seat wanting to know
what is going to happen next. The film also includes incredible famous actors, which includes
Marlon Brando, Al Pacino, and James Cann among many others. Throughout the filmthe main
theme of the film overall is violence. It is either really happening in a scene or it is being talked
about between the characters in the film. But in my opinion it all this violence that makes this film
a classic. The Godfathers opening scene is of a man ask for the help of Don Vito Corleone. Hey

  • 2. Beauty In Bluest Eye By Pecola Breedlove Beauty is in the Eye of the (White) Beholder While working as a tutor for African refugee children recently, I helped an 11 year old girl create an icon of herself online. At first, I thought it was a harmless activity until I saw she created the icon of herself to have blue eyes, blond hair, and a great big white smile. I shifted uncomfortably, asked her why she chose to portray herself with blue eyes. She gave me a puzzled look and replied, they re the prettiest as if it was the most obvious answer in the world. I immediately was taken aback that she idealized herself with these white features; a little girl who was so influenced by the mainstream media of images from Frozen, Disney Channel, and Pixar. Although the inclusivity of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Beauty is equated with happiness and success by Pecola who feels ugly and ashamed of her own brown hair and brown skin; a contrast from mainstream media idolized beauty. She feels all her troubles would be solved if she only had pretty blue eyes. However, this brings to question: who decided that to be white, blond and blue eyed was deemed to be the most beautiful? Racist undertones of White supremacy are prevalent in Morrison s story as these ideals of beauty are challenged. The toxicity of this ideal of beauty is especially poignant in Bluest Eye where Pecola s naivetГ© is taken advantage of in her desperate desire to be happy, cared for, and beautiful. Her final breaking point, believing she was given blue eyes by a religious man who claimed to fulfill dreams, is a shocking and disturbing consequence to Morrison s commentary about racial shame of beauty. Pecola goes mad, still unsatisfied that she has the bluest eyes , and quickly loses touch with reality after her devastating traumas and rejections. Society has failed Pecola when she was most in need of help. Pecola s silence about her madness reflects a wider issue of the inarticulation of internalized racial hatred. The characterizations of these double standards for beauty are summed up by Morrison in Bluest Eye. The result is a complex multi level set of identity issues. It is a spiraling downward effect away from happiness when ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 4. Epilogue To Marcel s Last Memory Saban broke the silence as Marcel tried to evade being followed, What about the escape line? It is not an option just yet, Marcel said as he alternated watching the road and the rearview mirror. Saban took a deep breath, exhaled, closed his eyes, and shook his head. Shit! What is wrong? asked Saban. I believe we are being followed. What are you going to do? Be quiet and let me think. Marcel grabbed a pistol from his waistband, flipped off the safety, and held it in his hand as a dark colored sedan sped close to the rear of their auto. The sedan pulled alongside with the window rolled down and a man yelled from inside, Pull over! Marcel glanced at the sedan and saw a man with a pistol pointed at him. So he slowed, moved... He smacked the end of the pack on the dashboard to tighten the tobacco, opened the pack, removed a cigarette, lit it, inhaled, rolled his window down slightly, and blew the smoke out. • 5. Living Conditions ( World Bank ) living conditions (World Bank). The rationale behind the large loan is the boost in temporary employment, the importance of using municipal government agents, and overall implementing structural changes that in turn would transform the state of Gabon in the long run. Other actions that have been taken include implementing social safety nets as a form of addressing the poverty associated with inequality. Programs such as Carte d indigent only focused on short term transfers such as free medicine, food, family allowance, and cash in order to temporarily reduce the number of those under the poverty line (World Bank PRE). Unfortunately, these transfers were solely dependent on government funding and the shrinking social budget made the program practically worthless today. An emphasis can also be placed on the roots of inequality; poor governance with faulty transparency and a regime with various ties to privileged inner circles in France and domestically, leads the World Bank to classify Gabonas a rent based economy (World Bank PRE). The emphasis on rent denotes the importance of how much inequality actually influence the economy in Gabon, especially when those additional profits come from manipulation of the rules and institutions to begin with. It is also important to note that the distinctions between urban and rural poverty have yet to be officially documented through an effective survey or metric. The reality is that a significant majority of Gabon does reside in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. The Story of Joseph in the Bible and the Koran Essay Joseph: From the Hebrew Bible and the Koran The Bible and the Koran are both glorious books of the world s most flourishing religious cultures, Christianity and Islam respectively. At first glance, when you read the story of Joseph from the Hebrew bible and the Koran, they fundamentally seem to talk about similar ideals and storylines. They, however, have some deep seated differences, that may be a little philosophical in nature or might depend on the particular paragraph that we re comparing. The story of Joseph in the Bible begins with explanations of Joseph s youth and innocence and how his brothers were jealous of him because he was the blessed son . It involves a lot of specifics, like it mentions that Joseph was seventeen years ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Similar views are expressed in the Bible but much more subtly. Moving on to the part where Joseph is cast into the pit by his brothers, one major difference that I noticed is the mention of names in the bible, each instance and message has a name behind it, the mention of Reuben, Judah, Benjamin etc, this however is missing from the Koran where all the brothers are referred to as one conglomerate. The mention of the brothers separately is important in this context because clearly Reuben thought differently than the others and Judah was more like the leader so we can t possibly refer to all of them as one. Further on, in the Hebrew bible, Joseph is sold off to the Ishmaelites, on the other hand , in the Koran he is discovered by passing caravans. Comparisons can me made by accounting the part where Joseph s master s wife tries to seduce him too; in the Hebrew bible, Joseph is accused falsely and sent off to prison whereas in the Koran, the master acknowledges that his wife is the cunning one, This is but one of your tricks. Your cunning is great indeed! Joseph, say no more about this. Woman, ask pardon for your sin. You have done wrong. (p1448). The consequent imprisonment of Joseph is slightly different in both the stories too. While in prison, the interactions Joseph has with the prison mates are ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Essay On How Did The Byzantine Empire And The Spread Of... In the 10th century between the years of 1237 to 1480 B.C.E., Russia converted to the Christian religion but did not convert to the Catholic Church practices. Russia was a member of the Byzantine Eastern Orthodox Church. The religion of the Byzantine power was founded by Constantine, but it ended in 1453. The major differences in the Catholic and Orthodox churches were church governors. In the Catholic Church, the pope was in charge of Catholics, and the patriarchs (who functioned as arch bishops) governed the Byzantines. The USDA labels the insecurity based on the severity with four different groups. • 9. Understanding The Family Dynamics, And School Preparation Dr. Sampson, Black and Brown: Race, Ethnicity, and School Preparation gives great insight into understanding the family dynamics which relate to parental educational involvement. To the credit of research design, I believe the case studies presented on youth living poor from low income communities adequately assesses the needs of students. It is also a strength of Dr. Sampson research that information is given on how parents can engage in their children s educationalthough they may be in the midst of poverty and lack. By actually showing ways in which low income families produce cultural and social capital, Dr. Sampson creates an even playing ground for parent participation and shows that low income families alike possess a great deal of knowledge, skill and care for educational success. One of Dr. Sampson overarching ideas is that children and influences by parents attitude and (or) behavior. There are many variables that influence student achievement, I agree with Dr. Sampson that attitudes and behavior is perhaps the foundation for achievement outcomes. Common practices such as parents helping with home work and properly supervising children are referenced as key supports for academic success. Other strengths of Dr. Sampson arguments include the critical assessment that community organization, families and schools need to collaborate in effort to foster greater academic achievement in students. • 10. The Classical Cultures Of China Vs. China India vs China The classical civilizations of China and India were two of the most important and extant civilizations with major political development. The advanced technology like the ox drawn plows, paper, silk roads, etc shaped China s development. India was manifested by artistry, trade, and exceptional advances in mathematics. There were three main dynasties in classical China known as the Zhou, Qin, and Han Dynastywhile India was founded by three empires: the Mauryan, Kushan, and Gupta empires. Even though these civilizations evolved around the same time, there are crucial differences and similarities. Religion, beliefs, hierarchical and patriarchal systems, and government reveal the distinction between the two civilizations. Confucianismand Daoism were the major belief systems in classical China that shaped their society. These belief systems were not exactly religions;they were created to teach individuals how to live life. Confucianism was introduced by Confucius, also known as Kung Fuzi, around 570 BCE. It focused on reverence for elders, self humility, and respect for rulers and the people being ruled. During the reign of Wu Ti, he emphasized values of Confucian philosophy and recorded the Confucian doctrine in a book called The Analects. The problems Confucius set out to rectify, notably political disorder, were approached through an emphasis on individual virtuous behavior (World Civilizations The Global Experience). When the Han Dynasty was first founded, it was heavily influenced by Shi Huangdi, a brutal and strict leader of the Qin Dynasty who ruled people under many rules and regulations. Confucius wanted to terminate that method of ruling and knock some sense into people on how to live life without brutality. Instead of living under hundreds of regulations/laws, Confucius developed a sense of shame that changed the society as a whole. People began to understand morals and values which formulated peace and prosperity. As a result, the Mandate of Heaven was passed which stated that the ruler is blessed by Gods and once the ruler becomes too corrupt, the dynasty would collapse. Contrary to Confucianism, legalism indicated that only rules and regulations would create order in a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Establishment Clause was one way that civilians were protecting religious liberty by the separation of church and state. Within our political and school systems there have been a number of controversial issues to include religious holidays, school prayer, teaching evolution and aid to church based schools. The Supreme Court has ruled in many cases in regards to these religious controversial issues. In the end it was ruled to get the kids to school safely. Often in parochial schools parents are given vouchers to help pay for private schools. Some say this is an issue regarding the Establishment clause. In 1973 Committee for Public Education v. Nyquist, the high court invalidated a New York state program that provided tuition reimbursements to poor parents whose children attended private schools, 85% of which were religious (Leaming, n.d.). The courts ruled that New York had a primary effect of advancing religion. Since Nyquist the voucher programs are one step closer to being recognized as constitutional through the Supreme Court. The Constitution permits vouchers to be available for both religious and private schools through the government. School vouchers also raised arguments from opponents and proponents. Opponents raised concern that talented students were pulled from public schools which lowered their quality of learning while the proponents claimed their children would receive a much better education. In the play Blood Brothers Willy Russell explores the differences between a working class family and a middle class family during the downturn of industry in Liverpool in the 1960 and 70 s, resulting in The Recession in the early 1980 s. There is a twist on the fact that they are just two opposite class families Mickey and Edward. They are two genetically identical twins; however Mickey was brought up in a working class family and Eddie in a middle classfamily. By using this strong language in their first meeting it gives the audience a clear view of the extremes in the classes. The audience can find the first meeting quite funny because the actors play the two extremes in quite humorous ways. Initially this can make the difference in class seem quite a light subject when really, as we find out later in the play, it is an enormously important subject. I think Russell is positively biased towards Mickey in this first meeting of the boys, possibly because Mickey is from a lower class family and so was Russell. I think Russell is biased because Mickey is bragging for the small things he loves to play with. However, even though Edward probably has more than Mickey he doesn t make a show of it. Russell has made this first meeting a very bold statement, as the boy s don t seem to show a difference between each other in this first scene, they seem like two, normal, seven year old friends even though the difference between the two classes is very obvious. I think this helps to introduce the differences lightly to draw the audience in, so that they are ready for the drama that comes, later on in the play. This absence of women was occurred in Shakespearian dramas too as they considered them socially inferior with no right to participate in public activities. James. R. Brandon and Samuel .L. There are many theories that attempt to explain the cause of depression, but none of them fully explain the disorder. In this essay I will explain the assumptions made in the psychoanalytic and biological theories around depression. The field of psychoanalysis, founded by Sigmund Freud, views mental conditions and disturbances depression included as coming from often forgotten childhood experiences rooted into one s subconscious. One of Freud s early psychoanalytic theories regarding depression was the child turning guilt ridden anger on the self, meaning that a child s dissatisfaction with their parental relationships would clash with their desire to impress their parents, causing them to internalise their bitter and dissatisfied emotions. This internalisation would lead to self destructive behaviours and depressive symptoms later in life. Several similar theories have been raised ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Psychoanalysis assumes that depression is rooted in early childhood with little evidence to support this assumption. Stress In The Baboons This episode features Stanford University s Neurobiologist, Robert Sapolsky, who has a high understanding of stress and how it affects our not just our health, but our bodies. The main point Robert is conveying to the audience states that stress leads to serious health consequences, such as high blood pressure, weakened immune system, fatigue, development of fat and even the shortening of life expectancy. Robert Sapolsky researches the science behind human stress by exploring non human primates, the baboons in their natural habitat in Kenya, Africa. After thirty years of research, Sapolsky believes that baboons are apparently the perfect source of exemplifying human stress because they are naturally aggressive toward one another, including their offspring, and the pain and stress factors appear to be the same in humans; especially dealing with stressful jobs and verbally abusive bosses. In the baboon s case, if you are a full controlled male, you can expect lower stress levels, and if you are the submissive, abused baboon, the stress level can be much higher. The only way Robert can take a look at the serious health consequences related to human stress in the baboon is by taking the unsuspecting submissive monkey s blood and examining the stress hormones in the lab. Other than that Zoloft is not an addictive drug, if users listen to their doctor when they say how much to take mostly likely they will not become addicted. In some cases people who take Zoloft become reliant on it because if they do not take it anymore they will fall back into depression. When they become reliant they become addicted and it becomes extremely hard to stop taking it. However these addictive effects in most cases are not physical but psychological addicting because the drug is the only reason the user is staying normal. Machines are set up to perform functions that would require brain power and decision making. These machines have been designed to solve math problems, play games, assemble products and can be a form of communication. The basis of the story is to understand whether robots can think or function like humans. Humans deal with things on an everyday basis not knowing what the outcome will be. There are also information sensitive creatures such as digital computers. A computer is given information, stores what has been received and produces an outcome. In the end, a human is the one to program the computer to provide the information. There has always been a comparison between human minds and computers, but this has caused a great deal of debate. Comparing Medieval and Rennaisance Paintings Essay Comparing Medieval and Rennaisance Paintings In the following essay I shall compare and contrast paintings from the medieval and renaissance period. Medieval paintings were very realistic and precise. The king in the painting is in the middle, and anything painted in the middle is the center of attraction or the important object in the painting. To prove this theory, I looked at the painting and the first thing that caught my eye is the king. The human body is not too detailed but the actions they are doing or intend to do are very clear. The painter created visual space in this painting in a very witty way; he painted pillars and ceiling ornaments, which is an indication of height and space. I think it is a very successful method ... On the left of the painting you can see the barrel of fish, one of the fish is where he got the silver coin. In the middle Jesus is explaining the situation to the people. Masaccio always painted the most important things in the middle. On the right the man is paying his taxes. • 53. A Study On A Wave Amplitude And Positive Panss Scores Balogh et al. (2008) was the first group to our knowledge that correlated clinical parameters to ERG findings. They found a significant negative relationship between a wave amplitude and positive PANSS scores at the baseline assessment (r=в€’0.51, p800mg/day, several case reports noted changes at lower doses. Melleril was discontinued worldwide in June, 2005 due to concerns regarding increased risk of cardiac arrhythmias and sudden death. 4. Discussion 4.1 Possible mechanisms 4.1.1 Omega 3 FA Omega 3 fatty aciddepletion has been proposed mechanism for ERG abnormalities in schizophrenic patients. Specifically, docosohexaenoic acid (DHA) is found in high concentrations in the central nervous system, with the highest levels found in the outer segments of photoreceptors in the retina. There have been reports of significantly lower levels of essential fatty acids in the red blood cells of schizophrenic patients treated with neuroleptics and increased breakdown of membrane phospholipids in drug naГЇve schizophrenic patients using magnetic resonance spectroscopy. Previous studies have demonstrated reduced brain omega 3 fatty acid levels in schizophrenia, with demonstrated abnormalities in ERG. More recent research has investigated the possible relationship between omega 3 fatty acids and the dopamine hypothesis (which is discussed in more detail below). Quantitative changes in n 3 fatty acids have been shown to have quantitative effects in dopamine concentration and amount of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
