2. Savage Wars Of Peace
Max Boot traces the history of America s almost forgotten small wars abroad from
the late 1700 s to the present day in his book Savage Wars of Peace: Small Wars
and the Rise of American Power. He argues that these small wars, also known as
military operations short of war , or low intensity conflicts played an essential role in
the United State s (U.S.) military historyand that these small scale conflicts contain
lessons that the present day military officials should learn from future low intensity
conflicts. Overall, the author was able to support his argument with a few minor
details that could portray the book in a negative light for some readers. The author s
primary objective in writing Savage Wars of Peace... Show more content on

The first strength is the author s quality of telling the military conflicts. It was
fascinating to learn about the details of the little known overseas military
campaigns. The first weakness is including the military men who were part of the
campaigns. While it was interesting to learn about these little known military
heroes, the reader could fail to understand how they fit into the grander stand of the
lessons of small wars. The author never mentions leadership as being part of the
lessons officials can learn from the past wars, thus, the reader fails to understand
the importance the author puts on these heroes in his novel if it does not apply to
the lessons learned from them. The second strength is the evidence he gives to
support the main argument of the author that lessons can be drawn from past wars
are generally excellent. However, the lessons from the experiences do not become
clear until the last part of the group when the author actually analyzes the evidence
he gives in the earlier part of the book. One does have to wonder if all the detail he
gives to the reader about the conflict is needed for the author to understand the
lessons that it could impart. However, overall the evidence supports the arguments.
However, many readers may become dissuaded because the author seems to have a
political bias in arguing the case of small wars. The author suggests that becoming

3. Analysis Of Obstetric Myths Vs Research Realities
In Goer, Henci (1995) book Obstetric Myths Vs Research Realities the author
reveals the roles of midwives in women delivery and how different it from the roles
of an Obstetrician in a hospital setting. According to the author the midwifery
attitude towards child birth is that of the mother being the central role in the whole
scenario of child birth. The mother is the maestro in the orchestra and the midwife
job is nothing less than support and guidance. The midwifery view is more of
empowering the mother in leading the child delivery process. According to the
author treatment starts with what the mother can do i.e. the mother s potential
powers and this compliments the midwifery practice. On the other hand, the author
sees the medical approach to delivery very much opposite to what has been
discussed as that of midwifery approach. The obstetrician sees the mother as
incapable of making sound decisions on behalf of herself due to the enormous
stressful situation she is going through. The author sees that the medical approach
strips mother of her power to deliver naturally and that obgyn is obligated to
intervene as baby delivery is a medical procedure and requires medical attention.
Here the approaches are very different especially when it comes to providing care,
where medical approach is more focused on medication for treating pain while
midwives see that medication is too risky and unnecessary while alternative
treatments do exist and help the mother a great deal.
4. The core function of Human Resource Department
Planning: the core function of Human Resource Department Page пїЅ PAGE пїЅ1пїЅ
ABSTRACT Human Resource planning is a process of identifying current and future
human resources needs for an organization to achieve its goals and strategic
objective. It involves, but not limited to forecasting an organization s future demand
and supply for different types of employees directly linked to its business needs.
Implementation of gap analysis between future HR supply and future demand is
taking place first. Strategies are then developed in order to minimize the gaps and
may involve recruitment, internal staffing, development and training, and activities
relating to rightsizing. Forecasting future needs implies proper understanding of the

Basic questions that HR planners should answer are the following: What are the
jobs needed to be filled during the coming period of time? and How and where we
are going to get people from to fill those jobs? What are the jobs needed to be
filled? Answering the demand question requires prediction: who will leave jobs
and create vacancies, which jobs will be eliminated, and which new jobs will be
created. One of the methods for predicting the vacancies and increasing number of
jobs is to project historical statistics into the future, the so called Statistical
Techniques. This is applicable for organizations with a long history in the market and
a clear understanding of their business, which can easily predict the demand for their
products or services (production volume, level of sales, number of contracts, etc.).
Behavioral theories of the causes of turnover (Richard Mowday, Lyman Porter, and
Richard Steers The psychology of commitment, absenteeism, and turnover 1982)
accompanied with conducting employee surveys particularly designed to assess
basic predictors of turnover (such as job satisfaction), in addition to the support of
human resource planners can give enough information to predict how many filled
positions can possibly become vacant. This information is more accurate and can be
useful mostly when a single organizational department has a large number of
employees. Nevertheless, on practice it is less precise when making predictions

James Horner was the composer for the movie Avatar, and was sadly passed away
in June 22, 2015 in a plane crash. He was born in August 14, 1953, in Los Angeles,
California. Horner began the life of a musician at an early age of five years of age,
and continued his practices at the Royal College of Music in London, England. He
further continued his studies of musicand received a bachelor s degree at USC and
both a master s degree and a Ph.D. at UCLA. Horner first breakthrough was when he
composed music for the movie Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan in 1982, which lead
to many opportunities such as working with the London Symphony Orchestraand

First piece of music being evaluated is the main credit. However, the main music
piece for the Avatar movie title is not at the beginning but rather at the end. In
other words, the main title music is the end credit of the film. The only possible
reason that came to mind after watching the movie as to why the main music of the
movie is played at the credit along with showing the title of the film is to have the
audience leaving the theater remembering the film. To feel attached to the film in
believing that the planet Pandora is alive and real with its native people, Na vi,
and their aboriginal music. It also gives off the effect of leaving the theater happy
and excited. In addition, it s a possible method of hinting about a sequel for the
film by ending the film with Jake waking up in his Na vi body along with an
intense drum based orchestral playing in the background in an aboriginal rhythm,
which also adds in the effect for the switch between bodies. The year the film was
set to take place was in 2154 on the planet of Pandora, but the music was not
futuristic. It felt more in tune with nature like how the Na vi people are to the
land. It starts with the flute, with a soft and relaxing tune slowly building up. Then
followed up with a heavy drum, giving off a feel that is fitting for the large
humanoid Na vi people as if they were to play the drums along with some sort of
chant that feels fitting for Na vi people.
6. The Coming Of Age In The Dawnland Summary
Based on most ethnic principles and values in early settlers, they were alike, but in a
unique way they were different. In both primary and secondary sources, each author
has the same type of writing style. In The Coming of Age in the Dawnland , Charles
C. Mann is referring to analyzation by introducing the readers to Tisquantum the
friendly Indian and the experiences of traveling to Dawnland and interacting with the
Native Americans. Another primary source, Of Plymouth Plantation , written by
William Bradford, was an American Literature based story to inform the reader about
the travels and beliefs of the Puritans and the Pilgrims. Last source is the, Suppressed
Speech Of Wamsutta (Frank B.) James, Wampanoag
. This speech is also to inform
the reader about what the Wampanoags went through and what kind of lifestyle
they were living from one of their own men s perspective. Each of these villages,
families, and individuals all had to go through the same struggles, hardships, and
brutal conditions. So, let s get into what beliefs, ways, and religions each one of
these groups had to go through. In The Coming Of Age In The Dawnland , there
were many unlikely strange situations that you wouldn t see happening in this day
and age. For instance, when boys reached a certain age in their life, the go through
some kind of initiations. They are thrown into the snow, and are given three strange
things. By the age of seven, any boy or girl is considered to be an adult and to do any
7. Essay on Willie Stark as Huey Long
Robert Penn Warren s novel, All the King s Men depicts the tale of the rise of a
political leader named Willie Stark. Many readers have speculated that Warren based
Willie Stark s character on Huey Long, a controversial, political leader from
Louisiana who was prominent during the early 1900s. Although Robert Penn Warren
has repeatedly denied that Willie Starkis a fictional portrait of Huey Long, many
aspects of the novel directly correlate to the political career and personal life of
Huey Long (Payne). Robert Penn Warren creates a character whose experiences and
political career directly correlate to the events in Huey Long s life. The speculations
that Willie Stark is a fictional representation of Huey Long are indisputable due to...

was not instant; Huey Long died two days after the shooting (worldpress.com). In
the same way as Huey Long was murdered, Stark is attacked by Adam Stanton after

like Jack had hoped, Adam shoots Willie (596). Jack watches as two little spurts of
pale orange flame from the muzzle of the weapon are released, but Willie did not
die there in the lobby under the dome (598). Although Willie survives the attack in
the Capitol building, he dies the third day following his surgery to remove the
bullets. Both assassinations, that of Willie Stark and Huey Long are nearly identical.
Both men were shot by a doctor in the Capitol building, and both survived initially
but died shortly after the event occurred. Clearly Robert Penn Warren drew upon the
shooting of Huey Long to create a similar situation in his novel. Each detail correlates
between the two situations with the exception of the number of days that
8. The Nature Of Auditors Professional Scepticism
Introduction
Professional scepticism (PS) is critically important to the way in which auditing is
conducted. It is also an essential component of a qualified auditor. The prior
literature (Hurtt et al, 2013) argued that PS can be influenced by various factors,
which arises the question regarding how PS should be positively perceived and
effectively conducted in practices. Professional scepticism is defined as an attitude
combined with a questioning mindset and a critical way of thinking towards auditing
practices (Nelson, 2009). However, there is a divergence among practitioners and
academia of how PS should be perceived and practiced. Neutral approach was
suggested by early auditing standards while presumptive doubt is growing under ...

It is also widely asserted that skeptical mindset is critical to performing a rigorous
and prudent auditing with due professional care (Holm and Zaman, 2012). In
addition, the extent to which PS should be applied is vital for an auditor since it
impacts both the accuracy and efficiency. Having too little of it will bias the
accuracy while too much will lead to extra human effort and cost. The effective
balance between risk and efficiency is the essence. In practice, there should be a
limit on the level of details an auditor can possibly reach and on the extent the
auditing should be conducted to.
Neutrality is the essence of unbiased scepticism. According to CICA handbook
(2003), an auditor is required to perform with a questioning attitude, having in mind
that there may be the existence of financial misstatement. It also indicated that being
skeptical requires critical thinking upon evidence obtained through the auditing
process, and is alert for questionable documents regarding the entity representations.
However, it does not mean an auditor should be obsessively suspicious about
anything. Instead, it is suggested to have the capability to reach the balance without
speculated dishonesty or unquestioned trust. An objective evaluation should always
be guaranteed, and a neutral auditor should always present a suspension of judgement
until having evidence or proving the otherwise.
The above perspectives were supported by various literatures. One
9. Go Gentle Into That Good Night
For many people, the thought of death is a terrifying concept to fathom. Whether a
beloved family member, pet, or even emotions have died, death in any form continues
to be a challenging subject to communicate about to others. From dances to songs and
from paintings to writings, people express their views on deathin a variety of forms
and fashions. In William Cullen Bryant s Thanatopsis and Dylan Thomas s Do Not
Go Gentle into That Good Night, death exists as the main topic of both poems;
however, Bryant s and Thomas s opinions on death contrast greatly in both works as
a result of each poet s religious beliefs, experiences, family and decisions that
influenced the poems. Bryant and Thomas held different religious beliefs that

Bryant had held a very close relationship with his beloved sister, Sally, who died
young (Gado 295). His sister meant a lot to him, and her death hurt him deeply. He
had also been affected by the death of both his grandfather, Ebenezer Snell, and a
close family friend, the wife of Jacob Porter. Both died in 1813 (Muller 22). Their
deaths added to the stress of a young man who seemed to keep finding death at his
back door. These individuals also influenced the writing of Thanatopsis. In lines 68
through 72, Bryant points out how the ...maid / [t]he speechless babe, and the gray
headed man / [s]hall one by one be gathered to thy side... (Bryant 2). Here, the
poem presents clear references to the deaths of his sister, his grandfather, and family
friend. He thought so much about them and their importance to him that he just
could not leave them out of the poem. Although the deaths of these significant
figures in Bryant s life caused him some heart ache he did not let that dwindle his
support of death. In lines 31 through 34, Bryant promises that a person would not
go alone but [t]hou shall lie down with patriarchs of the infant world... the wise, the
good, / [f]air forms, and hoary seers of ages past... (Bryant 1). Here, Bryant provides
a pleasant feeling about death because he claims that people will go with those they

10. Reflection Paper On Weight
When I was in high school I was one of the smallest member in all of my classes, I
joined the cross country team and was among one of the fastest runners in my
school but after I graduated I had a new goal to gain weight and put an ending to
just skin and bones. To begin with, I chose to achieve gaining ten pounds in the
four weeks of my psychology class. The reason why I chose this is because all my
life I have struggled to gainweight, I would go through tubs of protein and eat
whatever my heart desired and I would always stay the same weight. After joining
the military I was able to plan out my meals and with the exceeded workout plans
every day I was able to put some weight on my body, but yet my metabolismwas still
too fast and I would rapidly lose the weight I had worked so hard to gain. My
metabolism was so fast I even considered too stop exorcising and ate junk food for a
whole month but quickly realized that was not the right route to go.
Starting my weight gaining goal for these four week project helped me get back
into the rhythm I had once lost. The first week was the hardest, I had to go back
and reorganize how I lived my day to day life. First I had to relearn all about nutrition
and what foods would help me achieve my ten pound goal by the end of the four
weeks. I had to make sure I ate enough calories throughout the day and compensate
the calories that I would burn with and without working out, so I started my plan off
with about MMM calories a day to see

Intro: This movement analysis project examines the free throw of a male college
basketball player. The foul shot was broken up into four segments of movement
which can be listed in order as the wind up, the set, the shot, and the follow through.
We also examined the athlete s
Functional Movement Screen (FMS), highlighting where the athlete excelled and
where he had deficits. The FMS findings were applied to the skills needed to
compete in basketball at the collegiate level. Lastly, we analyzed the arthrokinematics
and osteokinematics of the joints during these movements, the angles of those joints,
as well as the muscles involved during the movements. Description: To begin the

RITE OF PASSAGE
It is three days before my initiation ceremony. The day Mama says I become a
woman. She is really happy about it and I m supposed to be, but I m not. I have tried
to delay this day for as long as possible, but this year Papa put his foot down. I am
already 17 years old and most girls go through the ceremony at 14. All the girls in my
age group have to go through this rite in order to make them eligible for marriage.
No woman in the village can get married without undergoing the rite of passage. It
is part of our tradition and the elders believe it ensures women do not stray from
their marital homes. They also believe you are unclean without it. People were
already starting to whisper about me as I was the last girl in my age group who not
gone through it and my friends tease and look down on me that I am not yet a woman.
My younger brother, Dide cannot be initiated into the Warrior class because he has
an older sister who is uncircumcised. This is the real reason Papa has refused to
listen to me any longer. Dide has come of age and he doesn t want me to delay his
initiation. After my initiation ceremony, I would be getting married. Papa has
already someone picked out. I ve seen him a couple of times, my friends think I m
lucky to be getting married into his family. I don t think anything. Going through the
initiation ceremony and getting married would be the end of schooling for me. I
know what is expected of me as a female but I don t like it. When I told
13. Brief History of the Domestication of Cats and Dogs
You can find at least one cat or dog in almost every home in America. In fact,
approximately 67 million households have pets and there are 164 million owned
pets in the U.S. (U.S. Pet Ownership). But, do we know where our beloved pets
came from? Many know that the dog descended from wolves and the cat descended
from some larger wild catbut it is a little more complicated than that.
So just what country did cats originate from? Researchers found that cats have been
involved with humans for about 4,000 years. They also found a feline that roamed
Eurasia and Africa more than 34 million years ago! That s a long time! This early
cat weighed about twenty pounds and was the size of the bobcats we see today. It
was called the Proailurus, which means early cat (Cat History). The NC Museum of
Natural Scientists states that cats came to North America with Colonial settlers in the
1700 s. Humans have helped spread them throughout the world by keeping them as
companions (Pushy Plants).
Unlike dogs, cats are said to have domesticated themselves. When humans started
settling North America and farming land, cats came in and protected the crops from
rodents. The humans saw that they were good so they fed and protected the cats
(Carver). The humans also began to store crops, such as grain, and with storage,
came rats. The cats were delighted by the great amounts of prey and the people
appreciated cats even more (Zax).
The earliest breed of cats in Europe was the Angora. Scientists

This year, for my Science Fair Project I plan to do a study on how varying system
parameters affect the dynamics of a multi tank liquid level hydraulic system. The
purpose of this type of system is to maintain a constant fluid flow. In order to
maintain this fluid flow the tanks have to preserve a certain liquid level, this
necessary level depends on the other variables. My system will consist of: an
inflow valve, the tanks, valves to go between the tanks, and an outflow valve. I want
to do this experiment because about two years ago, when I was in the seventh grade,
I did a science fair experiment where I tested how changing the variables in a mass
spring damper system affected system response. In that experiment, I changed the
amount of mass,

The novels, Sense and Sensibility by Jane Austen and the novel Simone de Beauvoir
by Agonito Roosemary are interconnected through the characters and the stereotypes.
The stereotypes in Simone de Beavoir relate and reflect the characters in Sense and
Sensibility. The characters which the stereotypes are embedded in are John

Thomas Palmer is also a character that agrees along with the serotypes that are
present in the text. He portrays the masculine traits through his character, one of
which being an unemotional husband. This is an important masculine trait since
men are perceived as individuals that are strong, independent and looked upon
people. Being an unemotional person allows men to be focused and dedicated.
Males do not allow emotions come in the way of their goal, making them capable
of controlling their own emotions. Being an unemotional male makes it easier for
men to not give up (Simone de Beauvoir 356). If a male is determined to not
allowing emotions to overpowering and controlling them, those men are capable of
having fixed attitudes (Simone de Beauvoir 348). Although, the character may be
unemotional, it does not necessarily mean that he is unable to express his feelings.

17. Making Of A Melodram Style Swap
Making of a Melodrama: Style Swap
Like a true symbolist drama, the goal of Interior was to put on stage what could not
be expressed purely through rational language. In addition, Symbolist theater put
focus on the atmosphere as opposed to the plot which is evident in Maeterlinck s play
Interior. Since symbolist theater is interested in the internal landscape of the
subconscious, mood and atmosphere were more important than exciting reversals and
climaxes The major conflict in the plot of Interior by Maurice Maeterlinck, the Old
Man is working up the courage to tell the family that one of the daughters has
drown. The plot of the play is fairly simple because Maeterlinck s intention for the
play was to peer into ordinary life and focus on the elements that people tend to
overlook in day to day life. This is one of the major elements that makes this play
purely symbolists and not close to a melodrama. In order to make this play into a
melodrama three major elements would need to change: addition of spectacle in the
presentation of the play, comedic relief to offset the serious plot, and the addition of
background music.
Adding Spectacle
The play Interior is driven by the death of one of the families daughters. One way
to add spectacle to this play to swap the style from symbolist to a melodrama, would
be to add a prologue that details the daughter s death. The purpose of spectacle is to
animate the desired audience emotional response. By having a brief prologue that

American beauty is a drama comedy type film directed by Sam Mendes in
1999.The film won 5 academy awards in 1999 including that of best actor and best
director. It follows the story of the Burnham family and specifically Lester
Burnham, a middle aged American man who is facing a midlife crisis and is
falling deeper and deeper into a pit of endless depression. Because of this he has
become imprisoned by all aspects of his life. Mendes deliberately uses motifs and
camera work to illustrate this theme of imprisonment to the viewer. As Lester makes
changes in his life the theme changes from imprisonment to freedom which is
shown by Mendes deliberate use of symbolism as well as Lester s new confidence
displayed by his dialogue and posture. We also... Show more content on

These techniques all show how Lester has broken free and is now enjoying life.
Lester s confidence is best shown in the second office scene where he uses
blackmail to get his boss Brad to give him money. This dialogue shows how Lester
has changed from being shy and timid to being a strong willed individual who is
not willing to back down. Lester s confidence in this scene is also portrayed by his
posture. He shows no sign of weakness and is totally relaxed compared to brad who
is infuriated and speechless. Both these examples of confidence show how he is
no longer controlled by his boss and therefore imprisoned. Also showing the theme
of freedom is the disappearance of the prison cell and window motif. Mendes even
starts to use them on people Lester interacts with to show how Lester s freedom
impacts others. In the last scene I talked about, during Lester and Brads
conversation Brad is shown to have what looks like jail cell bars in the form of a
shadow behind him. This shows how it is now him who is powerless and
imprisoned and Lester who is free. Finally showing the theme of freedom is the
marijuana symbol. It was first introduced to Lester at his wife s work convention
by Ricky and from then on is used to illustrate how Lester starts to rebel and breaks
free. An example of this is when Lester is driving to Mr Smilies to ask for a

parole system, I had to study the history of both. I will begin with the history of
probation and then talk about the history of parole. I will also talk about how
probation and parole work in the present and how and what will happen to both
probation and parole in the future.
Probation comes from the Latin verb probare which means to prove, to rest.
Probation was first introduced to the United States in 1841 when a boot maker by the
name of John Augustus attended court to bail out a drunkard. This offender was
released to the custody of Mr. Augustus making him the first true probation officer, the

He did well with the prisoners at Norfolk. He returned to England in 1844, he
campaigned for the parole system to be used. In 1849, he tried to implement the
parole system when he was appointed governor of the New Birmingham prison, but
met with apprehension, others believed that his methods were to lenient. Maconochie
was dismissed from his position in 1851.
Sir Walter Crofton tried to implement Maconochie s system in the Irish Prison
system in 1854. Croftons belief was that prison programs should be directed more
towards reformation. In order for this reformation to happen Crofton thought that
tickets of leave should be awarded to prisoners who showed a definite achievement
and had a positive attitude change. He also transferred prisoners into intermediate
prisons after a period in a strict imprisonment. When the prisoners were in the
intermediate prisons they could then earn marks that would accumulate, these
marks were received for work performance, behavior, and improvement of
education. By earning enough marks, the prisoners could receive their tickets of
leave and would be released on parole. Once on parole the new parolee was
required to report to the police. The police would help the parolees find jobs and
oversaw their activities. These contributions that Crofton made to the Irish Prison
System are credited to the modern system of parole.

22. Gun Control Arguments
Different people have different opinions on the topic of bearing weapons. Some
people believe that owning of weapons such as guns is good because it will help
them against criminals while others feel that they should be banned. However, in
June 2008, in the case of District of Columbia v. Heller, the United States Supreme
Court ruled that people were allowed to keep guns for self defense (Neily III, 2010).
This was one of the most important rulings on gun rights since the adoption of
Second Amendment in 1791 on Bill of Rights. The second Amendment of United
States Constitutionstates that in a Free State, peoples right to bear and keep arms
shall not be infringed. There have been many cases when the court has been engaged

The court reached this decision after gun owners managed to present sufficient
evidence that showed why they should be allowed to carry guns and therefore
restricting them is violation of their constitution rights. The federal court was called
to decide the case after courts of lower jurisdiction failed to agree if the law that
govern owning of firearms should be uphold. In addition, the court also agreed that
the Second Amendment laws demand states to allow people to use firearms outside
their homes. Furthermore, it was held that it is not necessary for a state to enact laws
that will ensure that the guns will be carried when they are concealed (Woodruff,
2014). The author of this article further states that even if the court ruled out in favor
of the Second Amendment, there is need for a discussion on how California will
regulate gun rights. According to ABA Journal author by the name Martha Nell, on
the issue of gun rights, she stated that the constitution is being violated and there is
need for an open discussion in order to honor it. Furthermore, the court agreed that
California Laws on gun controls were violating people rights as they are stipulated in
Second Amendment (Woodruff, 2014). The court also recommended the need for
amending these laws so that they will stop conflicting with the
23. The Effects Of Post Colonialism On Social Mobility Essay
Back in the days when the effect of post colonialism was still real, education was
only affordable to the whites and the upper class families. This brought about the
hierarchy of power where the wealthy capitalist accessed first class education for
their children, and basically excluding the low class children from this system of
education (Croxford 372). This, therefore, leads to inequality to social mobility,
where the lower class members have less opportunity for social mobility. Mainly due
to the fact that individuals from traditional schools belong to that particular social
class, and their opportunity is purely based on their background character. Currently,
this is said to be true due to the differences in culture, class, education systems and
different opportunities in social mobility. This paper will, therefore, focus on the
effects of education on social mobility.
Firstly, due to socioeconomic background of different individuals, those from the
low class background are less likely to complete their high school, and for those
who do, high chances are they do not go to universities. The lower class
individuals, who successfully enroll in universities, are less likely to complete, and
very few get to graduate. This consequently increases the gap between the lower
class individuals and the middle and upper class individuals. The education and
social mobility also relate to; where the parents of students in a high class school
always have high expectations on good

I went to go see 2 Pianos 4 Hands at Neptune Theatre on March 6th; I have attached
the ticket and the program. I was impressed overall with the vocal performance but
there were a few things that I noticed. The breath support was diaphragmatic for the
most of the play but I did notice some upper chest breathing in Richard Todd
Adams, who played Ted. I only noticed this when he was downstage and delivering
his speech. Bryce Kulak, who played Richard, seemed to be breathing
diaphragmatically the whole time. The sound quality was all over the place with
both actors but it was clearly a characterchoice. When the actors were switching
between different characters they added glottal attacks to show the harshness of
their character. When there was a particularly strict teacher, extra glottal attacks
were added and when they were playing children their voice seemed to have more
of a soft quality. One of the things I really admired about this show was how the
actors used every part of their voice. They used techniques that would normally be
considered bad habits or could be potentially harmful for the voice but being at the
end of the run I could not detect any strain on their voices, which means that they are
supporting all the work, they are doing. When Mr. Kulak was playing a woman his
pitch went up, and then it went back too his center... Show more content on

Through this lecture, I observed many things, including the way we as humans
have a evolved to in such a way our brains can easily identify metaphors. We as
humans seem to instinctively want to see things even though they might not be

metaphors when you put on a video with the triangles and square. There was no real

a thing that has come to be because of many years of evolution, whether it was us

Gates was willing to invest significant resources into technical support services to
improve their overall quality and customer perceptions of them.
Choice, Quality, and Simplicity should characterize all technical support programs.
Based upon several market research studies and experience, the task force
concluded that customer satisfaction would be sustained by delivering technical
support that met customer needs in three ways. First, support programs should
offer customers a choice. Those who did not want to pay for support they didn t
need should be able to buy software alone, at a price that did not include service
costs. At the same time, customers that wanted more support and were willing to
pay extra for it could also do so. Second, all technical support provided by Microsoft
should meet or exceed industry standards for quality. Third, all technical support
programs should be marked by simplicity; that is, customers should have little
difficulty understanding Microsoft s offering and how it applied specifically to their
needs.
Technical support services should be a cost center for the Microsoft Corporation. On
this point, there was uniform agreement in the company. As managers saw it,
Microsoft s core competence was its technology. Though important, technical support
services were not seen as a potential source of corporate profits. Instead, Microsoft
was prepared to invest in them in

30. The Argument On The Theory Of Utilitarianism
Mill has the view that there is a general misconception regarding the use of the term
Utilitarianism. Most people refer to it when comparing between wrong and right in a
restricted manner that is divergent to pleasure. The opponents of utilitarianism often
attach everything with the element of pleasure; thus, contributing to denouncing the
theory. However, the proponents of the theory of utilitarianism such as Epicurus and
Bentham asserted that it was pleasurein itself and the exclusion of pain. Therefore, the
moralityprinciple of utility, which is also referred to as the greatest happiness
principle maintains that actions are justified to be right when they produce positive
results that are associated with happiness. On the contrary, actions are wrong when
they are linked to the negative outcome that tends to suppress happiness. Happiness
refers to the absence of pain when there is pleasure, while unhappiness is
characterized by pain and lack of pleasure. Basing on the theory of utilitarianism,
morality is founded on humanactivities that are aimed to promote happiness and
pleasure as well as suppress pain. That is, humans desire the end of an action to be
pleasure.
Mill talks about the various priorities that are related to pleasure, which human
beings possess. He illustrates the view by stating that, I have dwelt on this point as
being a necessary part of perfectly just conception of utility or happiness considered
the directive rule of human conduct (p:11). For

her high influence of writing about African American lifestyles. In The Lesson she
writes about a povertystricken African family who meet a rich woman that moves
into their neighborhood to teach the children. Bambara s unique voice comes to life
in this short story when she uses informal words and phrases, has a relaxed and
informal tone, and incorporates irony into her story. Using all of these components

Abstract
This study determines the positive and negative effects of flight on the human body.
Both the field of Aeronautics, flight within the Earth s atmosphere, and Astronautics,
flight outside of the Earth s atmosphere, where referenced in the process of research
to grasp an understanding of the conditions of the jobs of Aerospace pilots. The
research questions are: Are pilots in the aerospace industry affected by their jobs
overtime? What is the difference in conditions between commercial pilots and jet
pilots? What conditions do astronauts have to undergo? How does G Force affect the
human body? How does zero gravity affect the human body?
In order to investigate this idea much research was conducted on the conditions in
which a pilot would undergo as both an airplane pilot and a spacecraft pilot. The
research was more so aimed at how these conditions had an effect on the human
body and why this was the case. In order to come to an accurate conclusion I
analyzed research from primary sources such as official government websites,
similar studies, interviews conducted personally with various types of pilots, and
personal hands on experiences of my own as a passenger in an aircraft.
Through very detailed research I concluded that there is much at risk over time as an

Comparison between the Analects and Confessions
Both St. Augustine s Confessions and Confucius s Analects are important teachings
that have great influence on people around the world in the ancient time and
nowadays. Both doctrines discuss ethical values of the society back in the time as we
can find some similarities between the two. However, there are significant differences
between Confucius and St. Augustine s experiences and believes since they are living
in different environment at time period. Their profound differences are the factors
that contributed to shape the distinct cultures between the West and the East today.

Augustine openly criticized his family s wrong because God was his heart and the
only truth (II, 5).
Another difference between Analects and Confessions is the different believes
about one s self and the Truth. Confucius believed that the Truth of life, ren, was
the virtue and benevolence of human; while St. Augustine believed that God is the
Truth, the heart of goodness (Confessions, II, 5). In the teachings of Confucius,
Analects, there was no specific God; Confucius focuses on the men himself and as
his character develops within the society, as He believed that it is Man who
capable of broadening the Way (Analects, XV, 29). Confucius believed in the
importance of rites and ceremonies. A gentleman according to Confucius should be
aware of his action and be thoughtful. For example, he should avoid a certain colors
and materials for clothes on different occasions (X, 6), or he should not sit when his
mat was not straight (X, 12). On contrary, St. Augustine believed that one should
only be obedient to God since He was the only Truth. St. Augustine, as other
Christians, believed that God created this world and created men with his image, so
that men must look up to God, turn to him for forgiveness; He then would protect
His people, and they would no longer suffer (Confessions, IV, 31).
Although there are differences between the Analects and Confessions, they have a
common belief in treating others in the society; both teach people
38. Masterpieces Always Come With Good Reasons And
Fantastic
Masterpieces always come with good reasons and fantastic story telling. On one
hand, a good reason or a logic progress with facts makes a work more convincing;
on the other hand, those fantacies and make ups show a writer s reflection on facts
and reasons he or she received, and are extensions of those facts and reasons,
rendering the work interesting and even more convincing. In three famous and classic
works, On Liberty, Hard Times, and The Communist Manifesto, we can see how
writers combine facts with fictions and compose excellent works.

He even chooses such a noble man, to show that we, who do not possess so much
wisdom and virtue as that emperor, should be more careful so that we do not make
this mistake.
Furthermore, Mill writes that It is a bitter thought, how different a thing the
Christianity of the world might have been, if the Chritian faith had been adopted as
the religion of the empire under the auspices of Marcus Aurelius instead of those of
Constantine (On Liberty, John Stuart Mill, Page.28). Here, Mill makes up a different
outcome with the historical fact, that the noble emperor did not persecute Christianity
but supported it. Undoubtly, Mill wants to demonstrate that Christianity could
develop better under the support of Marcus Aurelius with his wisdom and virtue that
nobody could reach. Again, Mill stresses his arguement here that we should be alert
with the mistake that deny a hearing to opinions because we, in our judgement, have
condemned them (On Liberty, John Stuart Mill, Page.25) so that we can make things
better.
In conclusion, Mill, from two aspects, fact and fiction, stresses his arguement and
makes his arguements more convincing and impressive to readers.

Heraclitus was a pre Socratic Greek philosopher, who was born around 500 BCE.
Heraclitus is best known for his theories that things are constantly changing, the
unity of opposites, and that fire is the basic material of the world. The Milesians
consist of three philosophers: Thales, Anaximander and Anaximenes. First there is
Thales, who was a pre Socratic Greek philosopher born in 624 BC. Thales is most
well known for his theories that the world derives from water; the world rests on
water; the world is full of gods, and soul produces motion. Next, Anaximander was
a pre Socratic Greek philosopher born in 611 BC, and a student of Thales.
Anaximander s most famous theory is the claim that the basic stuff of the universe
is apeiron, infinite and boundless. Finally, Anaximenes was a pre Socratic Greek
philosopher as well, who was born in 585 BC. Anaximenes is most famous for his
claim that everything is air. These philosophers all sought to explain the natural

Heraclitus believed that everything is in a constant stage of change. He uses fire as
his principle element to symbolize constant change. The elements of fire are
constantly changing, but its essence remains the same. Heraclitus regards fire as a
process, instead of an unchanging, underlying element of all things. If the fire were
to stop changing, it would stop existing. No man ever steps in the same river twice,

person is not the exact same individual that they were the first time that they stepped
into the river; people change, and so does what is occurring around them. Nothing in

40. Essay on censorship
Censorship is the act of suppressing publications, movies, television programs, plays,
letters, and so on that are considered to be obscene, blasphemous, or politically
unacceptable (MccGwire 4). Censorship should be enforced because it is needed
into today s society. Censorship needs to be used in media, hate speech, and obscene
material.
To begin with, the media has very negative effect on society as a whole. The mass
media movies, television, and recordings need to be regulated, and not only because
of appeals to irresponsible lust (Lowenthal 19). They have immersed us in violence as
well, habituated us to the most extreme brutality, held it up as a model and
surrounded us by images of hateful human ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

It corrupts taste and poisons the imagination (Kimball 20). Violent video games,
movies, and music lyrics influence people to retaliate against those people that hurt
them. In the past few years there have been a great number of school shootings. Many
of these shootings were copied off of famous movie scenes and video games. These
obscene aspects of the media need to be banned from children. Children are still
learning the difference between rights and wrong, therefore adults need to take on
this responsibility of censoring what children watch, read, play with, and listen to.
Hate speech should also be banned. Free speech has a class line. It also has a class
responsibility. One person s beliefs cannot cross the line into threats of violence. Free
speech does not cover that (Albano 31). Those institutions most concerned with social
fairness have proven to be the ones most likely to promulgate anti hate speech rules
(Albano 30). Part of the reason seems to be recognition that hate speech can easily
silence and demoralize its victims, discouraging them from participating in the life of
the institution (Albano 30). If so, enacting hate speech rules may be evidence of a
commitment to democratic dialogue, rather than the opposite, as some their
opponents maintain (Albano 30). People should not have to put up with harassment
by others. People should not have to constantly live in the state of fear because others
are threatening them;
41. Cystic Fibrosis Research Paper
Cystic Fibrosis is a genetic disease that causes multiple lung infections and limits
the ability to breathe over the span of a lime time. Cystic Fibrosis causes a thick
buildup of mucus in the lungs, pancreas, and other organs, so Cystic Fibrosis is not
only a respiratory disease but can also cause problems in the digestive system.
While the buildup of mucus on the lungs doesn t allow the person to breathe as well,
the buildup of mucus in the pancreas doesn t allow the release of digestive enzymes
that help the body break down food and absorb nutrients. There are many symptoms
that come along with Cystic Fibrosis. The main symptom of Cystic Fibrosis is
wheezing and shortness of breaths along with always having some type of lung
infection

In the U.S., retail stores will not allow underage teens or minors to purchase
violent or mature rated video games without a guardian. 97 percent of teens in the
U.S., ages 12 17 play video games. More than half of the best selling games are
violent or mature rated. Some Americans believe teens that play mature rated or
violent video games could lead to violence. Others believe it may be a way teens can

Allowing teens to purchase violent or mature rated video games will increase the
sales of the game purchased and violent video games are known as a stress reliever.
History
Violence in video games dates all the way back to 1976. In 1976, there was an
arcade game called Death Race, and it was about running over stickmen with a car.
The game was eventually banned due to the violence it displayed. (Homeslice,
Death Race (Game) , 2014) Back in the late 70 s to the early 90 s, video games did
not have a rating. There weren t a lot of violent video games for home consoles at
that time, and violent games that were released was usually unlicensed or unofficial.
According to Ryan Lamble, some of the earliest violent video games were Chiller,
Splatterhouse, and Jack the Ripper. (Lamble, The evolution of 80s videogame gore
and mayhem , 2013)
In 1994, a video game rating system known as ESRB was established due to gory
and violent games such as Mortal Kombat and Night Trap. The ESRB decides
what age or ages a video game should be appropriate for. The ESRB rating
categories ranged from kids to adults to mature. ESRB. SEARCH ESRB
RATINGS. ESRB Ratings. N.p., n.d. Web. 08 May 2017. Today, the ESRB rating
still exists and recently the ESRB expanded to mobile games and apps. The ESRB

Problem Statement
The issue is underage teens are not allowed to purchase mature or violent video
games due to
44. Tim Burton Film Analysis
From Edward Scissorhands to Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, director Tim
Burton has been captivating audiences for over 30 years. One can agree that Mr.
Burton has an uncommon way of portraying things, which allows him to twist a
viewer s emotions. His feature films such as Edward Scissorhands, Charlie and the
Chocolate Factory, and Alice in Wonderland are some of the best examples.
Throughout his films, director Tim Burton executes all cinematic techniques
successfully; the involvement of sound, lighting, and editing techniques throughout
his films establishes a suspenseful mood creating his grotesque and macabre style.
One such cinematic technique is called non diegetic sound, in which the sound is
intended for only the viewers of the movie, establishing a suspenseful mood. In
Edward Scissorhands, when Peg Boggs, one of the protagonists, walks up the stairs
of the abandoned mansion, music is played in the background for only the viewers
to hear. In the following scene, Peg is at the top of an abandoned mansion looking
for someone, when a figure with sharp weapons appears out of the shadows. At this
moment, menacing music is stridently played in the background (Edward). The
sudden appearance of the figure, along with visible emotions and the music, gives
viewers the feeling of something ominous. Mr. Burton uses non diegetic sound to
evoke other feelings in viewers as well. In the movie Alice in Wonderland, when the
protagonist, Alice Kingsleigh, is atop the
45. Racism In Television Shows
Girls is a currently running HBO original show, initially premiering in 2012, which
has been critically acclaimed as a modern day reproduction of HBO s 90 s cult
classic, Sex and the City. Both series are set in the boroughs of New York City,
Brooklyn and Manhattan respectively, while revolving around two sets of all female
friend groups, each composed of four intricately sophisticated women in various
stages of their adult life. While both shows successfully highlight the complexity of
managing the nuances of everyday life while juggling personal relationships, Girls
and Sex and the City fail miserably at representing ethnic minorities equally within
the diegetic worlds of their show, ultimately perpetuating racially imbalanced
depictions... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The white girl issues Carrie Bradshaw of Manhattan faced on the daily weren t
relatable to the brown girl from Queens or the Latina girl from the Bronx. Girls
was thought to be a resolution to an unanswered problem from the past in a new
era, yet the show reverted back to the same methods as its predecessor. Hannah
Horvath and her friends only depicted what life was like in New York Cityfor a very
specific group of young women. The question to ask when writing about fictional
characters set in real world settings is this: how will an audience be able to
distinguish within the show what is dramatized fiction versus an observed reality
(hooks)? We, as human beings, innately choose to believe what we see. The more
the fictional worlds on television resemble our own, the more likely we are to
accept its creations as our own reality. Television promotes racial stereotypes, racial
stereotype promote racial stigmas. Consequently, television deems racism as the
truth. These shows become a form of a tease to minority female viewers of a life
which is seemingly familiar yet too elusive to be tangibly their own. Carrie and the
gang are, but are not us. We seek our identity in others because we want to see others
make the same mistakes and prevail from them, in hopes of following suit. Hannah
and her
46. When Harry Met Sally Summary
ould you want to read a technology startup version of When Harry Met Sally?, a
story about two doctoral students building the most amazing internet success of
our time? Only this story entails transforming a mathematical term into a popular
verb used in daily conversations for research and web surfing by students and
business professionals. All of this and much more has been compiled in a
chronology of events associated with the early beginnings in The Google Story.
The story tends to follow a similar tone and theme to the movie Pirates of Silicon
Valley, but with less drama and industrial espionage. The founders are portrayed as
the rock stars of the technology world. The book details the early lives of Sergey
Brin and Larry Page, beginning when they met as computer science doctoral students
at Stanford University. Ironically, the derivation of the company s name, (googol, one
followed by 100 zeroes) equates to the depth of the journey to build the technology
phenomenon called Google. Throughout the book, it is clear that the indelible
influence of their families provided the strong foundation of work ethic, character,
and respect for education. Sergey and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The early influence of Sergey and Larry to create a non traditional and university
environment led to the Burning Man retreat in a northern Nevada location. A few
months after this event, Sergey was working in the early morning on Halloween eve.
Still fresh with the energy from the retreat, he created a Halloween themed logo
consisting of substituting orange pumpkins for the Os in Google. After receiving the
lukewarm assessment as clip artsy from another early morning worker, Sergey asked
to have the artwork placed on the homepage. The graphic gained significant attention
and positive responses (p. 75). So, the creative, holiday oriented logo transformation

48. Lord Of The Flies Simon Comparison
The fictional character that I most relate to is Simon from Lord of the Flies. During
the Second World War a plane full of boys were shot down by another plane, making
them stranded on an island with no adults. They had to adapt to their surroundings
and attempt to make it out alive. Shortly after, all of the boys got settled and elected
a leader. Even though that leader wasn t necessarily Simon, he became a vital
character as the plot progressed. Simon may have not led with his words, but with his
actions. For instance, demonstrating kindness, he picked fruits for the little kids that
couldn t reach them. Just like myself, I tend to set examples for others through hard
work. Despite the fact that during the duration of the novelthe boys developed
