Clinical Laboratory Misconceptions
I recently had the opportunity to meet with Clinical laboratory director Kathleen Penny at Metro
Health Hospital, where I hope to intern this coming January. After settling into Mrs. Penny s office,
I was able to get some insight about what a common misconception is about the clinical laboratory.
Mrs. Penny went on to mention that most misconceptions regarding the laboratorystem from other
medical professionals being surprised at how well educated the laboratory staff is (Penny, K
personal communication). Apparently, many areas of the hospital don t realize that the medical
technologists responsible for the tests done hold a bachelors or associates degree. The degree a
laboratory tech has will determine the complexity of testing that person can be responsible for.

Penny made during our conversation, was No one really knows what we do, a fact I ve come to
learn in my own experience when I explain what my major is. (Penny, 2016). After reading the
title of a story in Gigs I found myself wondering what does a computer chip layout designer do, I
have no idea. I figure something with design of computer chips, but again I can t fathom what
that means. Susie Johnson the woman in this position, explains what her job entails. If I
understand it correctly, she creates a computer chip to contain information that is housed in
symbol format, which she spatially arranges to fit into the chip that she designs. (Bowie, et al. p.
86). In my attempt to understand what this means I am reminded of when Mrs. Penny spoke of
the practical application of a concept. I would have a better understanding of Mrs. Johnson s job
if I visually saw the process and the end result. While I can t fully visualize what Mrs. Johnson
creates, I do see more clearly why people don t venture to guess about my chosen profession, as I
did not even have an inkling as to what a computer chip layout designer does on a daily

Change and Emotions in The Things They Carried by Tim...
Albert Einstein once said, The world as we have created it is a process of our thinking. It cannot be
changed without changing our thinking. This quote relates to Lieutenant Jimmy Cross from the
short story The Things They Carried, by Tim O Brien and the narrator from Cathedral, by Raymond
Carver in that they both change. Lieutenant Cross gets distracted by Martha, a girl he is in love
with, during the War and one of his man dies. The narrator from Carver s short storygets jealous
about a blind man his wife used to read to and is not happy that they are having him over their
house. Even though the narrator is very similar to Lieutenant Cross in that they both have a
connection with someone that makes them change, they are also very different in the emotions
that they go through. These two characters share many similarities throughout the short stories.
They both go through an event that makes them see things differently. Lieutenant Cross is in
love with Martha even though he knows that she is probably not in love with him. He gets too
distracted with Martha and does not really focus at his job as a lieutenant. One event that
changed him was when Ted Lavender, one of his men, died. This made him realize that he was
too distracted by Martha and did not cared enough for his men. He felt guilty and had to change
his attitude towards his job. O Brien states: He would accept the blame for what had happened to
Ted Lavender. He would be a man about it. He would look them

Chapter Summary Of Bigger Thomas My Brother By Flannery...
20 year old Bigger Thomas lives with his brother, sister, and mother in a one room apartment on
the south side of Chicago. He is being offered a job as a chauffeur driver but considers robbing a
white man s store with his friends. Later in the day, he is hired as the chauffeur for the Daltons, a
rich white family. His first job is to drive their young daughter Mary to university at night, but she
makes him drive to her to meet up with her communist boyfriend Jan Erlone. They make Bigger
eat dinner with him in public and try to befriend him, but it makes him uncomfortable. Later that
night, Mary is too drunk to make it up the stairs by herself, so Bigger helps her into her room. Mrs.
Dalton, her blind mother, comes into the room to check on Mary. Fearing that Mary would expose

In the morning, Mrs. Dalton wonders about Mary s whereabouts and why her trunk is only half
filled with clothes if she s leaving for Detroit. Bigger mentions that Mary was really with Jan the
night before, not at the university. Mrs. Dalton sends him home for the rest of the day, but he
goes and sees Bessie, his girlfriend. He forces her to take part in faking a ransom note for Mary s
disappearance, but she suspects that Bigger had something to do with it. Later on, Bigger
returns to the Dalton house to find that Mr. Dalton has hired Britten, a private detective. Bigger
is questioned and he answers in a way that raises suspicion towards Jan. Later, Bigger slips the
ransom note under the door. Mr. Dalton immediately alerts Britten, and with him, reporters follow
back to the Dalton house. In the basement, a reporter tends to the furnace when Bigger fills the
room with smoke and discovers human bone and an earring. Bigger is now on the run and brings
Bessie with him so she doesn t snitch. Bigger later rapes and kills her, dumping her body over the

Children With Special Needs Children
She looks so normal , this is a typical response that a mother often hears about her child with
special needs. Special is a term that is described as different . Some people may look at a child
with special needs and feel sympathy while others lack the knowledge. For my child
development class, I was assigned to conduct an interview with a mother who has a special
needs child. I was one of the many that lack knowledge of special needs children because I did
not know what this mother had to face. While doing this interview I have learned that it takes a
special person to take care of a special child. This child has a disease called NOMID, which stands
for neonatal onset multisystem inflammatory disease, this disease causes inflammation and tissue
damage affecting the nervous system, skin, and joint. This interview has taught me that some
parents will face many difficulties while raising a special needs child, but they will do whatever it
takes to help the child overcome challenges that they may face everyday.
On January 20, 2016 I interviewed Jasmine, a good friend of mine about her daughter Emily that
has special needs. She discussed the many challenges she has had to face. This interview took
place in Victorville, where she lives with her husband and Emily, for about two hours long.
Jasmine and I were the only two people in the house while this interview was taking place,
allowing her to express herself more comfortably with me. Jasmine also has two older daughters,

Summer Descriptive Writing
It all began with a simple phone call one night around two in the morning. I glanced down at my

the nice quiet evening at home, I would have if I rejected the call. I could sleep, and not have
another stupid adventure with
Thirty minutes, however Summer s burnt orange 1968 VW bug rumbled into my driveway, and
she was leaning on the horn before the car came to a full stop. Grabbing my coat from the couch, I

Carlsbad Case
City of Carlsbad Case Analysis
Issues: The City of Carlsbad, CA is home to 75,000 oceanfront residents. After emerging from the
worst recession in the history of the city 1995, robust changes to the structure of the city was in
order. Therefore, under the leadership of the city manager, Carlsbad began the reengineering
process, which included revising the city s mission and values statements, applying new information
systems, and rearranging the city s numerous departments into five groups, called the major service
areas (MSAs). Cummings and Worley indicated that the internal and external stakeholders viewed
the changes positively and believed that they had improved customer focus and employee
commitment (p.433). Conversely, while consulting with an OD consultant, the City of Carlsbad
was made aware within the Public Works Department, the data indicated that there was an
assortment of problems that made the city less efficient. This included overlapping roles and
equipment, general discretion for each department, and the lack of goals.

According to Cummings and Worley (2015), an organization must clarify their strategy in order to
have a successful downsizing intervention. Therefore, employers or management should engage
employees through participation and empowerment. Given that employees already had their
reservations about the change, it is imperative to ask employees for feedback. In addition,
employers should educate their employees what the processes are for other departments so that
cohesiveness can span across departments (Cummings Worley,

Reflection About Fun Home
Fun Home is a Modern musical based on the graphic novel of the same name. Until this class I
was not familiar with this show. I had heard about it in passing but had never heard any of the
music, did not know the plot line, and I did not know the origins. When I heard that it had won a
Tony, I knew it had to be good but I was still a little skeptical since I did not know much about it.
However, once I saw it I can say that I was not disappointed. It had some great lessons that most
of us can take away even if we do not agree with the context of the lessons. For the most part, the
actors did a phenomenal job, and there were some insane vocals. The lightingand stage design were
great. All of this was topped off with some great music. To... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

She nailed that role. One of the parts that hit me hardest was when she was telling college age
Alison to not come back home again because she did not want her to waist her life like she had.
What made it so powerful for me was how the actress took that pause right after she said don t
come back. It made me think that the mother was mad at Alison because of her being lesbian, but
then she finished the thought and the true message came through. It was just incredible how much
weight can be put into one pause. The only person I was not a huge fan of was the actor who played
Roy. To start with he came on as four different characters over the course of the show. While I
know that is difficult to do it is by no means impossible, and he seemed to struggle with it. I think
the biggest issue that he was having was that all his characters seemed very immature and
almost childish. He did not seem to be able to switch very easily from being an adult to being a
high schooler so all his characters seemed to sit somewhere in the middle. This just made the
show feel off at some points which made me as an audience member feel kind of strange and
almost uncomfortable. Other than that, I thought the performance was very well done. Another
aspect of the show that I really liked was the music. Not all music is created equally, and just
because this show is a musical does not mean that the music is that great. However, this show
delivered on that front with flying colors. Every

Ronald Reagan Failures
In 1980, troubled by a unstable economy at home, a hostage crisis overseas, and the end of prior
administrations that were not trusted, America elected Ronald Reagan by a landslide margin of
victory. At sixty nine years old, he was the oldest President to be elected. He was born in a small
town in Illinois and served two terms as California governor starting in 1966. Reagan s track
record proved to be very strong and included welfare cuts, decreasing the number of state
employees, and halting radical student protesters. Like other GOP members, Reagan came into
office promising to limit the power of government and to strengthen American military power
overseas. In this present crisis, Reagan said in his inaugural address, government is... Show more

Many critics saw Reagan s military tactics as illegitimate. They disagreed with the amount of
funding relegated to military efforts in Central America. These funds were used to intervene in
Grenada and El Salvador, and helped wage a covert war against the revolutionary government of
Nicaragua.(prenhall.com) As expected from a hesitant liberal Congress, funding for the Nicaraguan
war was blocked. Nonetheless, the National Security Council raised the money to finance the
intervention. Reagan saw the Soviets at the heart of every international dispute, from revolution in
Central America to international terrorism in the Middle East. To thwart the Soviets, Reagan called
for the largest and most expensive peacetime military buildup in American history
(reaganfoundation). With his telegenic features and extensive experience in front of a camera from
his career in Hollywood, Reagan was ideally suited for politics in a growing media age. Though
intellectually unambitious and often disengaged in his leadership style, he brilliantly articulated
themes of patriotism, individualism, and limited government that resonated with millions of
Americans. The President worked tirelessly in effort to propel his campaign for a second term.
Reagan s victory in the 1984 presidential election underscored his political popularity. Through his
speeches he reiterated his anti Communist rhetoric, that Soviets and Communism, as a whole, would

Meyrowitz s Theory Of Communication
Medium theory by Joshua Meyrowitz, (1985) refers to the body of literature that focuses on the
various approaches used in examining how different means of expression of human communication
affect the communication process in the society. It mainly focuses on the technological aspect of
the media later than its content. According to Croteau and Hoynes, (2003) the medium theory aims
at determining the look beyond the media content that reveals its social impact to the society.
Various scholars also investigated the medium theory and its impact to the communication industry
in the society. For instance the contribution by McLuhan, (1963, 1966, 1988) and Postman, (1985)
indicate that the medium theory in the United States occupies a marginal position... Show more

Friar Lawrence Guilty Analysis
In our lovely town of Verona, many terrible events have occurred recently, including the death of
one of our lovely youths, Juliet Capulet. Friar Lawrence, as we all know, has been here through
all of these tragedies, and he is the only person who can be blamed for the death of fair Juliet.
Ladies and gentlemen of the jury, although Friar Lawrence has most likely helped us all
throughout our lives, I must request that you all put aside your bias in this trial and aid the state in
putting this extremely dangerous man in prison where he belongs. The friar, a trusted member of
our society who always has good intentions, is guilty for the death of Juliet Capulet, and must be
punished for his actions and recent mistakes.
As members of Verona s society,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The first mistake that Friar Lawrence committed was to give Juliet the vial that we have already
seen that she used. Before giving her this vial, the friar said, [...] if thou darest, I ll give thee
remedy (183). The friar is abusing the trust that Juliet has placed in him by giving her something
that could potentially injure her or even kill her. This, obviously, is not the duty of a devout
Christian man such as Friar Lawrence; he should never have put Juliet s life in danger by giving
her this vial. One can assume that without the friar s involvement and his abuse of Juliet s faith,
the results of this situation would have been very different. Though we cannot know for sure, it is
extremely likely that had Friar Lawrence not intervened, Juliet would not be in her family tomb
with the dead body of Romeo next to her. If the friar had acted as a man of virtue would be
expected to act then he never would have provided Juliet with such a potentially dangerous potion.
The second mistake that the friar made was much later when Juliet awoke from her drug induced
slumber. The friar states to Juliet at this point, I hear some noise. Lady, come from that nest/Of
death contagion, and unnatural sleep./...Thy husband in thy bosom there lies dead,/...Come, go,
good Juliet. I dare no longer stay . Juliet

Devastating Effects of the Oleoducto de Crudos Pesados
Although relatively small in size, Ecuador is one of the most biologically diverse nations in the
world. A drastic range of altitude and geographical diversity in such a small area has resulted in a
high number of diverse climactic regions. Because of their very different climates and altitudes,
Ecuador s four main regions, the lowland Pacific Coast, the Andes Mountains, the Amazon
rainforest, and the Galapagos Islands, are each home to a wide variety of plant and animal
species. These many distinct ecosystems and the hundreds of endemic species residing within
Ecuador s borders have led scientists to classify it as a biodiversity hotspot .

However, the environmental effects caused by the oil industry in Ecuador are not limited to the
Amazon region. The construction of the OCP (heavy crude oil pipeline) threatens many of the
nation s other fragile ecosystems. The pipeline, which would connect oil sources in the Amazon
with the ocean port and refineries of Esmeraldas on the Pacific Coast, runs over the Andes
through various protected areas and reserves and regions of high tourism activity. (OCP alert, 2)
The high range of altitudes (up to 6300 meters) of the Andes, through which the pipeline will run,
provides fragile and diverse habitats for a variety of plants and animals. Also, the many isolated
areas of the Andean region have led to the evolution of an unusually large number of endemic
species.
The pipeline will traverse the extremely unique ecosystem of the Andean paramo. The high
altitude paramo region begins at the upper edge of the mountain forests and extends as high as
the glacier line of about 5000 meters. The paramo is characterized by a harsh, high altitude
climate. It is generally cold and dry (although some areas can be swampy), and supports low
lying vegetation like shrubs and grasses. (High Altitude Paramo, no page) The paramo is
important to other ecosystems of Ecuador because of its role as a water source. Melted ice from
glaciers is filtered by grasses and collects in the paramo s many lakes. This region is inhabited

Cooking The Revolution During The Nineteenth Century
Cooking the Revolution
HTS Submission to Fabrizio Ballabio
Leticia Dadalto
In the nineteenth Century the kitchen worked as the machinery. It had to be the biggest room of
the plan in order to support all the apparatus needed for the housework: the stove, the sewing
machine and the fridge were basically built in architecture elements. That results in a very
unhealthy and harsh environment that keeps the house working. Each family had its own house
and its own land where their own food was produced and their own clothes were sewn by the
enslaved housewife: the whole system was based in isolation (Hayden, 1982). It is curious to notice
how Woman s History started changing around design iterations of this once oppressive space.
In the mid 1800, names like Ernest Engels, Charles Fourier, Melusina Fey Peirce, the Beecher
sisters and Louise Bourgeous started to propose different organisations. The Material Feminists,
who believed in the economical independence of woman as the way to provide them freedom,
were supported by the Community Socialists (or Utopian Socialists) for the creation of ideal
societies with no distinction between class or gender (Hayden, 1982:10). The support between
these thinkers emphasises that in order to change woman s condition there is a need for changing
the home design as well as the household and the economical system. The patriarchic organisation
of the house can be considered a political economical system in a

High Degree And The Highest Level Of Schooling
In today s generation, it s very rare that you ll see young adults strive for the highest level of
schooling. When it comes down what people do after high school there s four things you see;
people who don t go to college at all, people who go to get their associates and go into their
career, people who go and get their bachelor s degree and go into their career, people who go and
get their master s degree and go into their career, then people who go the extra mile and get the
highest level degree you can reach, the doctorates degree. School costs money and time, some
people are willing to go to school and deal with the stress an extra 4 to five years, and others can
t. A lot of people nowadays question, is going to school an extra two years to get my masters or
an extra four to five years to get my doctorates really worth it? The main reasons why people go
to school to get a higher degree such as the master s degree and doctorates degree is because they
believe it sets your apart from other s in your work field who have a lower level degree than
them, and it will guarantee them more money. While without a doubt it does set you apart from the
competition in your work field, the question we will be examining remains is the extra education
worth it? In order to find out the answer to that the relationship between average weekly income or
salary and highest level of education must be determined. Literature Review There s a pretty high

Phenylalanine can pass through the blood brain barrier and significantly change the production of
neurotransmitters. Neurotransmitters are the chemicals that send signals from one neuron to

Secondly, the characters possess different views regarding the effects of education. In University ,
the protagonist believes that he has become more educated compared to his parents, while in
Warren Pryor , the protagonist feels as if education has degraded him. Warren Pryor describes
himself as a young bear inside his teller s cage . His job as a bank teller restricts him from what

Essay On Hyperthermia
Many people have an understanding of what hyperthermia is and the reasons it may occur in an
individual. Hyperthermia occurs when the body s core temperature reaches between 37 38В°C
due an inability to dissipate heat. In most cases, the occurrence of hyperthermia can be credited to
a known reason. Examples include being outside in extremely hot temperatures without any
cooling mechanism or vigorous exercise in extreme heat causing the body s temperature to rise.
Hyperthermia is determined by an increase in core temperature at a rate of 1 2В°C every five
minutes (2, 11). However, in certain individuals, the use of general anesthesia can cause individuals
to suffer from an inherited disorder known as malignant hyperthermia. When malignant
hyperthermia is triggered, individuals are at risk of hypoxemia, metabolic acidosis,
rhabdomyolysis and a quick rise in the person s body temperature... Show more content on

The increase in metabolic activity occurs in response to inhalational anesthetics and depolarizing
muscle relaxers, such as succinylcholine, and causes individuals to suffer from muscle rigidity,
hyperthermia, and tissue damage (1, 2). This is an inherited disorder found in humans and swine. If
treatment is not initiated quickly, the individual may die from ventricular fibrillation or, if the
situation is extended, the patient may die from renal failure (1). For treatment, patients are given
dantrolene, a muscle relaxer that prevents the release of calcium. Once dantrolene was widely used
as a treatment for malignant hyperthermia, the mortality rate from the disorder dropped from more
than 80% to less than 7% (1, 5, 6). Overall, the rate at which malignant hyperthermia occurs is
between 1:5,000 and 1:75,000 (2). While the physical results of malignant hyperthermia are known,
the physiological and genetic reasons for the disorder are starting to be

P2P File Sharing of Copyrighted Material
Introduction
Anyone who owns a computer that has a reliable internet connection can potentially download a
torrent client and participate in peer to peer file sharing. Using a web browser to download files
from websites is a lot different than downloading files from peers because instead of obtaining the
files from a web server you are obtaining the files directly from ordinary computers like your own,
hence the name peer to peer (P2P). A lot of people use P2P file sharing as way of sharing and
obtaining copyrighted material. In this paper I ll go over some of the details of P2P file sharing,
why it s such a big issue for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Often times popular television shows will be shared less than 24 hours after airing and this
availability plays a crucial role in the amount of people who are actively downloading and
sharing. As of May 4th, 2016 approximately 35,000 people are actively sharing Season 2 Episode
20 of The Flash television series which aired the previous day on May 3rd. On top of that another
10,000+ people are downloading the same episode, and that s just a single torrent.
Screenshot taken from Kick Ass Torrents homepage (https://kat.cr/tv/).
All of these people are sharing/downloading a single episode of a television series. There are
thousands upon thousands of people sharing and downloading copyrighted material every
second. This includes movies, music, television shows, e books, computer software, video
games, etc. From 2008 to 2014 file sharing in North America increased a substantial 44% (Steele)
and since 98.8 percent of all P2P file sharing data is copyrighted, this implies that the illegal
sharing of intellectual property using torrents and P2P file sharing has been climbing steadily. One
of the reasons I think that online piracy is becoming more popular is because it s extremely easy
to do and a lot of people don t even think they re doing anything wrong when downloading
copyrighted material from the internet. There are also an outrageous number of people who
participate in online piracy and it s

To what extent were Baptists persecuted in Colonial America? Describe the contributions of

According to our text, Restrictions upon Baptist varied at different times and places from mild

As a group of baptized believers, the Baptist are still holding to these truths that we believe can
be found Scripturally within the word of God. Again, although we may not experience physical
persecutions yet, to this day we are persecuted for what some would consider our traditional
views on the definition of a family, same sex marriages, abortions, just to name a few of the
stances we are yet being persecuted for. Although we are persecuted and sometimes even
labeled closed minded and not evolving with the times I will always uphold the word of God as
authoritative and surmise that it has the final say in all matters. Thank God and our forefathers

Gentrification Of Downtown Kansas City
Gentrification can be defined simply as the shift in the makeup of the people in a community. It is
the transition in a community from a run down, poorer area to a more wealthy demographic.
Gentrification starts with the increase of property values caused by brokers and real estate agents.
These brokers and real estateagents usually benefit the most from gentrification. Businesses that are
moving in are storefront coffeeshops, cafes, boutiques, etc. Since these newer, nicer shops are
occupying the storefront, the rent for the apartments above rise, causing many people to lose
their homes. The new tenants that move into these apartments are typically young and hip.
They prefer to hang out at these coffee shops below. These new landlords are more in touch with
the demographic changes and are looking to change the area in order to make money. The older,
current landlords do not see a need for change. Some people will argue that gentrification is
inevitable. While gentrification is happing all over the world, I did my research specifically on
downtown Kansas City, Missouri, Harlem, New York, and DUMBO, Brooklyn, New York.
Gentrification comes with both positive and negative effects. These three areas each show a
unique perspective on gentrification. An example of gentrification that has already happened in
New York is DUMBO; it stands for Down Under the Manhattan Bridge Overpass. DUMBO is an
older area of Brooklyn. David Walentas is the founder. David Walentas made a

The Financial Data Of Telus Corporation
Introduction Telus Corporation (Telus) is a national organization that provides telecommunications
(telecoms) products and services throughout Canada. Telecoms refers to the utilization of electronic
platforms to transmit information from one place to another. With the ongoing shift towards
telecoms in Canada, the use of products and services via both wired and wireless telecoms carriers
is increasing. Moreover, the necessity for organizations to transfer information, and for individuals
to stay connected with one another reinforces the need for telecoms.
Purposes of Report

investment recommendation.
2)Compare financials ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is the lowest it has been in the last five years (Refer to appendix table 3). However in 2013,
Telus dramatically increased the number of shares outstanding which resulted in a lower EPS.
Although EPS is a common indicator for a company s profitability, another factor that can be
utilized is cash flow.
Cash Flow
Telus possesses a strong cash flow. For the last five years, Telus has been increasing its cash with
the exception of 2014 (Refer to table 2). In 2015 Telus cash increased by 163 million (USD),
with the end cash position being 223 million (TMX Money, 2015). A healthy cash flow is
extremely important for any company that wants to meet its short term debts. As long as a
company has a positive net cash flow, it will be able to pay its debts and continue operating.
Therefore, due to its positive cash flow, Telus will be able to invest in growth opportunities and
secure debt with ease if needed.
The customer turnover rate for Telus is quite low. This is because it has managed to increase its
subscribers in TV, wireless and internet (Donnelly, 2016). Consequently, Telus is expected to grow
because of these factors. Furthermore, the aspect of high dividends makes Telus an attractive
investment. On December 11, 2015 Telus quarterly dividend was $0.44/share (Telus Investor
Information, 2015), which provides a safe, stable cash flow.

What is the Good Life Essay A popular saying is live life in the moment. People believe that by
doing this, they will live life to their fullest potential, and this will lead to the good life. This is a
good theory, but it is not actually a good idea to life live this way. This is shown by both
Herodotus, The History the story of Solon and Croesus, and by the Mike Webster Sports Injury
series by Greg Garber. In both of the texts, the fictional Croesus, and the real life Mike Webster both
lived their lives in the moment, and they actually provide the most significant horrible warnings to
show what is not the good life. By living in the moment, neither of these two actually thought
about the future while they were living their good lives. If they had thought about the future, and
the repercussions that could happen if their way of life was ended, then they may have been able
to avoid the inevitable fall that both of them faced. Webster and Croesus both lived the good life
for a time, and through both of their stories, we can see that to truly have lived the good life, one
must die living it.
While both Webster and Croesus undergo very similar crucibles, there are a few distinct differences
between the texts that complement each other, so by understanding one of the texts more clearly,
the other can be better understood, which in turn, leads to a better understanding of the good life.
One of the main differences

Does the media use subliminal advertising as a tool for...
Media these days, whether print or electronic, is being used by the general population as a tool to
stay informed. Whether someone wants to get up to date with the latest events around the world or
just wants to find out if their favorite team has won, media is the way to go. We trust the media to
keep the whole world updated and connected. But, is the media exploiting our blind trust by
subconsciously manipulating us through subliminal advertising? Firstly, what is subliminal

researcher. In the experiment, the words drink Coca Cola and eat popcorn were projected on the

numerous reports in the news regarding the results which stated that there was an increase in the
sales of popcorn and Coke after the experiment began. Although these results were not given much
credibility due to the absence of a control group, the exposure of this experiment made people
realise that they were being targeted subconsciously.
A big component of subliminal advertising is repetitive advertising. This method has been used a
lot in the past and is still being used today. Examples of this can be found all around us. If you
turn on the television these days. you will see commercials for a specific product multiple times
during a short period of time. This strategy is applied in order to reinforce the image of that
product in the consumer s mind. If a person sees a commercial a few times, then he or she may or
may not buy the product. Their behaviour will depend totally on the fact that did they like what
they saw in the commercial or not. But if they are shown the commercial again and again, then they
become curious about the product and this is enough to initiate a trial purchase. A.S.C. Ehrenberg,

George Zimmerman s Murder Case Analysis
These are two different cases of murder. One is supposedly out of self defense, and the other
could have been murder with intent, or accidental. It is unknown. Facts about the cases show
that George Zimmerman s murder trial could have been pressured by the public, assumedly
because he killed a black man, Trayvon Martin. Witnesses accounts and evidence from 911 calls
support Zimmerman s claim that he shot Trayvon out of self defense. Autopsy reports also
indicated that Trayvon was shot at a very close range. Witness accounts report that Trayvon was
on top of Zimmerman, beating him up. It was later reported that he had a broken nose and cuts on
the back of his head (CNN Library (b), 2016). These are evidence that aligns with Zimmerman s
story of self defense.
The only mistake that Zimmerman committed was not following Trayvon as instructed by the police
. Zimmerman had called 911 to report a suspicious person in the neighborhood. He was then
instructed not to follow the person, but he did so anyway (CNN Library (b), 2016). For one to be

The topic of stress effects on the brainseems the most interesting to me because of how much
stress a college student, as well as others, can endure. Stress affects a person both mentally and
physically. Your mind perceives a situation and decides whether that situation is a threat. If it
seems threatening, it becomes a stressor. According to the National Institute of Mental Health,
stress is simply defined as the brain s response to any demand and can take a variety of different
forms. Although the concept of stress is individualized, stress plays a role in everyday life and

Theme Of Beauty And The Beast By Angela Carter
Angela Carter, an English writer, is best known for her feminist rewriting of classical fairy tales.
In her stories she prominently uses themes, such as, virginity, the pornographic image, violence
and sex, and many others. Degrading someone to the status of a mere object, in other words
objectification, is a theme Angela Carter shows in many of her fairy tales, specifically the
objectification of women. According to Carter, the objectification and subjugation of women is
part of a latent context of fairy tales that she expressed simply by virtue of being a woman. Both
The Tiger s Bride and The Courtship of Mr. Lyon are fairy tales intertextually linked with Beauty

She feels that the men who claim to possess souls consider her as nothing more than an item of

she can no longer submit to society s female stereotypes. She declares, I will dress her in my own

Through the symbol of the soubrette, Carter shows the reader that this view of women weakens the
character and prevents her from fulfilling her potential. Thus, The Tiger s Bride , the heroine must

The Backyard Of My Father s Rickety House Essay
There used to be a small town in the backyard of my father s rickety house. It wasn t constructed

overactive imaginations and an abundance of time. In fact, I was the one, who came up with
the idea to build it. During the summer of 2010, my two stepsisters and I had exhausted all of

usually went near there due to the glass and the creatures living under the leaves. Whenever it
would rain, snakes would emerge from those woods to play in the puddles near our house. Needless
to say, it took a few years for a group of girls to work up the courage to explore the snake s natural
habitat. Before my step sisters and I started to clear the forest, we had to ask for permission to
use our parent s yard tools. Sadly, I had sent my step sister Kelsey to ask because I was too afraid

plan on acquiring my master s degree in mechanical engineeringnext semester, so a career plan is
what I need. Choosing the right career takes a lot of careful timing, and it takes a lot of careful
and precise plans in order to create a suitable job prospect. I think that a career in computer
manufacturing and hardware is probably the best choice for me. Since computer hardware is
constantly evolving, it s something that you can count on to stay busy.... Show more content on

In 10 years I hope that I am able to sustain a job and keep up with the greatly advanced hardware
that s going to be around, and in 15 years I m just hoping that I ve settle for what I am doing, and
that I am still making a decent salary. The global market is high for hardware engineers.
Everything has computer operating systems now including phones, and cars. Everything is
getting smaller, and the world is always going to be accepting of new technological advances in
hardware. In a competing global market it s a sure fire way to know that I would have some
semblance of job security in the future because I would always be in on the creation and design
of new hardware for more compact machines. Industry is going to be technology in 20 years.
Everything that s struggling to conform now is going to be defunct because hardware is
advancing at such a rapid pace. Governments are going to be reliant on technology for means of
communicating with each other and assert global dominance. Every company is going to have
to have a division that includes a hardware engineer because technology is advancing so rapidly,
that even the simplest things are going to include microchips. Hardware engineering is a very good
career choice for me because It s a field that I can most assuredly be safe in. It s not going to die.
The field will be forever be evolving, and changing, and all of the

Personal Auto Insurance
Having an auto insurance coverage will help you protect whenever you figure in a car accident
or when there is a loss to your automobile like fire and theft. You also need to be protected in case
you injure another person through the use of your car or you made a damage to somebody s
property when using your car.
Auto insurance coverage is excluded from most homeowners forms thus auto insurance must be
covered separately and it is called a personal auto policy. Since the personal auto policy contains
property and liability auto insurance coverage, it is considered a package policy. The auto
insurance policy form contains four distinct coverage with each coverage having its own
conditions, agreements and exclusions.

but in others the insured may opt out of this coverage in the policy. This type of coverage can only
be written if there is also a liability coverage.
The fourth coverage of the auto insurance policy is the coverage for the damage to your car. This
covers the actual physical damage to your vehicle. The policy covers the damage brought on the
collision of your car and damages other than collision like fire and theft. This type of coverage can
be a standalone coverage or can be written in conjunction with a liability coverage.
The personal auto policy can be written to a single individual or to the husband and wife who are
on the same household. Most auto insurance coverage are written to include all of the available
coverages but if you are saving money, you can choose whatever auto insurance coverage you want
and opt out of the others which are not mandatory. Just be reminded to read the fine prints since
there are conditions, limitations and exclusions in the auto insurance

Budget Proposal From Former Governor Governor Bob McDonnell
The outgoing Governor Bob McDonnell on December 10, 2013 revealed his two year budget
proposal called the 2014 2016 Biennial Budget and Amendments to the 2013 Appropriation Act.
When Mr. McDonnell released his proposal at the Capital in Richmond he spoke about some key
things in regards initiatives that needed to be taken.
The first thing people noticed about the proposed budget was that it was 96 billion dollars. He
made some increases in some areas while decreasing funding to areas many people considered
unacceptable. This includes cuts to schools; his plan shaved 48 million off kindergarten
programs deemed underutilized. One thing that was proposed that most people agreed with was
an increase to the states contingency fund. In the budget Governor McDonnell will increase the
rainy day fund to over one billion dollars. However, higher education was a big concern in the
budget as evident because of the almost 200 million boost in the funds allocated for colleges and
universities. The one major factor that stuck in people s mind the most and was the trigger that
ignited support for the piece of legislation was the fact that Mr. McDonnell did not propose new
taxes. In the plan there is a lot of cutting to programs that are deemed unnecessary and reallocating
of funds that Governor McDonnell feels are very important, for example Medicaid. This program
is what spark new debate in the house and senate about how Medicaid should not be expanded. This
expansion would

Kent State Shooting In The Vietnam War
During war, chaos occurs when there is conflict between the people and the authority of a country.
The Vietnam War was a time of extreme disagreement between the government and the people.
People of the United States did not want to be involved in the Vietnam war and felt very passionate
about this. On May 4, 1970 students at Kent State protested the war. Feeling that the protest was
becoming wild, the National Guard was called in. The protest did not die down, so the soldiers
shot about fifteen people. Four students were killed and at least nine were injured. This shooting
caused a great quantity of chaos and argument among the people, government, and media. All three

The National Guard claims that their actions were to end the chaos of the protest. A website
states, Outraged over the use of tear gas, the beatings, and the bayoneting, the students conducted
another rally on Monday. Forty minutes later, they opened fire on the crowd of students in a
thirteen second sustained volley in which at least sixty seven rounds were fired. Four students
were killed, and nine were wounded ( Kent State Shootings ). The shootings were just from the
National Guard s perspective because the crowd was very rowdy and the senior chief thought it
was the proper action to take. Also, the National Guard easily could have taken out the entire
crowd, but only shot a few that they thought were necessary. An article says, Four students at Kent
State University, two of them women, were shot to death this afternoon by a volley of National
Guard gunfire. At least 8 other students were wounded ( 4 Kent State Students Killed by Troops ).
They injured a total of at least twelve students out of the many protestors. This they felt was a very
reasonable act for the situation. The government believes the shootings are a very just action,

After settling into Mrs. Penny s office, I was able to get some insight about what a common misconception is about the clinical laboratory. Mrs. Penny went on to mention that most misconceptions regarding the laboratorystem from other medical professionals being surprised at how well educated the laboratory staff is (Penny, K personal communication). Apparently, many areas of the hospital don t realize that the medical technologists responsible for the tests done hold a bachelors or associates degree. I figure something with design of computer chips, but again I can t fathom what that means. Susie Johnson the woman in this position, explains what her job entails. If I understand it correctly, she creates a computer chip to contain information that is housed in symbol format, which she spatially arranges to fit into the chip that she designs. I would have a better understanding of Mrs. Johnson s job if I visually saw the process and the end result. While I can t fully visualize what Mrs. Johnson creates, I do see more clearly why people don t venture to guess about my chosen profession, as I did not even have an inkling as to what a computer chip layout designer does on a daily ... • 3. Change and Emotions in The Things They Carried by Tim... Albert Einstein once said, The world as we have created it is a process of our thinking. It cannot be changed without changing our thinking. This quote relates to Lieutenant Jimmy Cross from the short story The Things They Carried, by Tim O Brien and the narrator from Cathedral, by Raymond Carver in that they both change. Lieutenant Cross gets distracted by Martha, a girl he is in love with, during the War and one of his man dies. The narrator from Carver s short storygets jealous about a blind man his wife used to read to and is not happy that they are having him over their house. Even though the narrator is very similar to Lieutenant Cross in that they both have a connection with someone that makes them change, they are also very different in the emotions that they go through. These two characters share many similarities throughout the short stories. They both go through an event that makes them see things differently. Lieutenant Cross is in love with Martha even though he knows that she is probably not in love with him. He gets too distracted with Martha and does not really focus at his job as a lieutenant. One event that changed him was when Ted Lavender, one of his men, died. This made him realize that he was too distracted by Martha and did not cared enough for his men. Special is a term that is described as different . Some people may look at a child with special needs and feel sympathy while others lack the knowledge. For my child development class, I was assigned to conduct an interview with a mother who has a special needs child. I was one of the many that lack knowledge of special needs children because I did not know what this mother had to face. While doing this interview I have learned that it takes a special person to take care of a special child. This child has a disease called NOMID, which stands for neonatal onset multisystem inflammatory disease, this disease causes inflammation and tissue damage affecting the nervous system, skin, and joint. This interview has taught me that some parents will face many difficulties while raising a special needs child, but they will do whatever it takes to help the child overcome challenges that they may face everyday. On January 20, 2016 I interviewed Jasmine, a good friend of mine about her daughter Emily that has special needs. She discussed the many challenges she has had to face. This interview took place in Victorville, where she lives with her husband and Emily, for about two hours long. It had some great lessons that most of us can take away even if we do not agree with the context of the lessons. For the most part, the actors did a phenomenal job, and there were some insane vocals. It made me think that the mother was mad at Alison because of her being lesbian, but then she finished the thought and the true message came through. It was just incredible how much weight can be put into one pause. The only person I was not a huge fan of was the actor who played Roy. To start with he came on as four different characters over the course of the show. While I know that is difficult to do it is by no means impossible, and he seemed to struggle with it. I think the biggest issue that he was having was that all his characters seemed very immature and almost childish. He did not seem to be able to switch very easily from being an adult to being a high schooler so all his characters seemed to sit somewhere in the middle. This just made the show feel off at some points which made me as an audience member feel kind of strange and almost uncomfortable. Other than that, I thought the performance was very well done. Another aspect of the show that I really liked was the music. Not all music is created equally, and just because this show is a musical does not mean that the music is that great. Friar Lawrence, as we all know, has been here through all of these tragedies, and he is the only person who can be blamed for the death of fair Juliet. Ladies and gentlemen of the jury, although Friar Lawrence has most likely helped us all throughout our lives, I must request that you all put aside your bias in this trial and aid the state in putting this extremely dangerous man in prison where he belongs. Before giving her this vial, the friar said, [...] if thou darest, I ll give thee remedy (183). The friar is abusing the trust that Juliet has placed in him by giving her something that could potentially injure her or even kill her. This, obviously, is not the duty of a devout Christian man such as Friar Lawrence; he should never have put Juliet s life in danger by giving her this vial. One can assume that without the friar s involvement and his abuse of Juliet s faith, the results of this situation would have been very different. Though we cannot know for sure, it is extremely likely that had Friar Lawrence not intervened, Juliet would not be in her family tomb with the dead body of Romeo next to her. If the friar had acted as a man of virtue would be expected to act then he never would have provided Juliet with such a potentially dangerous potion. The second mistake that the friar made was much later when Juliet awoke from her drug induced slumber. The friar states to Juliet at this point, I hear some noise. • 14. Cooking The Revolution During The Nineteenth Century Cooking the Revolution HTS Submission to Fabrizio Ballabio Leticia Dadalto In the nineteenth Century the kitchen worked as the machinery. It had to be the biggest room of the plan in order to support all the apparatus needed for the housework: the stove, the sewing machine and the fridge were basically built in architecture elements. That results in a very unhealthy and harsh environment that keeps the house working. Each family had its own house and its own land where their own food was produced and their own clothes were sewn by the enslaved housewife: the whole system was based in isolation (Hayden, 1982). It is curious to notice how Woman s History started changing around design iterations of this once oppressive space. In the mid 1800, names like Ernest Engels, Charles Fourier, Melusina Fey Peirce, the Beecher sisters and Louise Bourgeous started to propose different organisations. The Material Feminists, who believed in the economical independence of woman as the way to provide them freedom, were supported by the Community Socialists (or Utopian Socialists) for the creation of ideal societies with no distinction between class or gender (Hayden, 1982:10). The support between these thinkers emphasises that in order to change woman s condition there is a need for changing the home design as well as the household and the economical system. • 24. Gentrification Of Downtown Kansas City Gentrification can be defined simply as the shift in the makeup of the people in a community. It is the transition in a community from a run down, poorer area to a more wealthy demographic. Gentrification starts with the increase of property values caused by brokers and real estate agents. These brokers and real estateagents usually benefit the most from gentrification. Businesses that are moving in are storefront coffeeshops, cafes, boutiques, etc. Since these newer, nicer shops are occupying the storefront, the rent for the apartments above rise, causing many people to lose their homes. The new tenants that move into these apartments are typically young and hip. They prefer to hang out at these coffee shops below. These new landlords are more in touch with the demographic changes and are looking to change the area in order to make money. The older, current landlords do not see a need for change. Some people will argue that gentrification is inevitable. While gentrification is happing all over the world, I did my research specifically on downtown Kansas City, Missouri, Harlem, New York, and DUMBO, Brooklyn, New York. Gentrification comes with both positive and negative effects. These three areas each show a unique perspective on gentrification. An example of gentrification that has already happened in New York is DUMBO; it stands for Down Under the Manhattan Bridge Overpass. DUMBO is an older area of Brooklyn. David Walentas is the founder. Garett Miller IUF 1000 section 234H Pokhrel 27 October, 2015 What is the Good Life Essay A popular saying is live life in the moment. People believe that by doing this, they will live life to their fullest potential, and this will lead to the good life. This is a good theory, but it is not actually a good idea to life live this way. This is shown by both Herodotus, The History the story of Solon and Croesus, and by the Mike Webster Sports Injury series by Greg Garber. In both of the texts, the fictional Croesus, and the real life Mike Webster both lived their lives in the moment, and they actually provide the most significant horrible warnings to show what is not the good life. By living in the moment, neither of these two actually thought about the future while they were living their good lives. If they had thought about the future, and the repercussions that could happen if their way of life was ended, then they may have been able to avoid the inevitable fall that both of them faced. Webster and Croesus both lived the good life for a time, and through both of their stories, we can see that to truly have lived the good life, one must die living it. While both Webster and Croesus undergo very similar crucibles, there are a few distinct differences between the texts that complement each other, so by understanding one of the texts more clearly, the other can be better understood, which in turn, leads to a better understanding of the good life. Whether someone wants to get up to date with the latest events around the world or just wants to find out if their favorite team has won, media is the way to go. We trust the media to keep the whole world updated and connected. But, is the media exploiting our blind trust by subconsciously manipulating us through subliminal advertising? Although these results were not given much credibility due to the absence of a control group, the exposure of this experiment made people realise that they were being targeted subconsciously. Witnesses accounts and evidence from 911 calls support Zimmerman s claim that he shot Trayvon out of self defense. Autopsy reports also indicated that Trayvon was shot at a very close range.
