Woman Hollering Creek By Sandra Chavez Summary
Some of the short stories featured in Woman Hollering Creek explores various aspects of domestic
violence, teen pregnancy, and interracial relationships. The author Sandra Cisneros challenges the
social standards of how we normally view interrelationships, physical abuse, and sexual promiscuity
among teens. Significant recurring themes that are presented are victimization of women, sexual
love as an exercise of power, and conflicts in cultural traditions. These central themes compel the
readers to think critically about these issues and how they impact our identities.
A cold hearted woman with no compassion for others must have suffered the emotional heartbreak
inflicted by the man her heart desires. In the short story Never Marry a Mexican ... Show more

been working towards for nine months. Full out after full out. We all had one goal which was to win.
Ever since I was four years old, I ve done all star cheerleading,a very competitive sport. Ever since
I started doing it, I knew why I wanted to. I did Cheerleading at a gym called Cheer Extreme
Chicago located in Addison, IL. I was on a junior 5 team called Obsession. The day we started
practicing, we prepared for one competition. The competition is called NCA (National
Cheerleading Association). NCA is located in Dallas, TX. There are 1,143 teams, 25,484
athletes, 38,000 spectators, 41 states, and five countries. After the nine months passed, it finally
came. When I woke up Thursday morning we drove to Chicago O Hare Airport. We then got our
plane tickets from the kiosk and headed to the flight door. We waited about an hour till we were
allowed to board. As we sat down in our seats, I spotted many cheerleaders from different gyms
crowding the airplane. It made me realize what I was walking into and how many athletes were
going to be in Dallas. The plane finally took off and after a few hours passed and we were in
Dallas, Texas.

Booker T. Washington Essay
Success is to be measured not so much by the position that one has reached in life as by the
obstacles which he has overcome Booker T. Washing. Booker Taliaferro Washington was born
in Hale s Ford, Virginia on April 5th, 1856 to Jane Burroughs and an unknown White man.
Washington was married three times. His first wife was Fannie N. Smith from Malden, West
Virginia. Booker and Fannie were married in the summer of 1882 and had one child together
named Portia M. Washington. Fannie died two years later in May 1884. The second wife was
Olivia A. Davidson in 1885. Olivia was a teacher in Mississippi and Tennessee. She then worked

Washington attracted the support of White philanthropists. In late 1890s he was the most prevailing
African American man in the country. Dozens of business leaders and politicians (including
presidents Theodore Roosevelt and William Howard Taft) regularly sought his advice on race
relations, southern politics, appointing Black Americans to federal jobs, and granting funds to
Black institutions. Washington formed loyal supporters African Americans and Whites as well.
Booker T. Washingtonand W.E.B Du Bois are similar to each other but disagree on plans for
African Americans social and economic progress. Booker T. Washington, educator, reformer and
the most inflectional black leader of his time (1856 1915) preached a philosophy of self help,
racial solidarity and accommodation. Washington encouraged African Americans to take on
discrimination and focus on educating themselves through hard work and discipline. He believed
that education was the answer to how African Americans can prove themselves to whites without
anger and hatred. Washington believed that this would win the respect of whites and African
Americans would be accepted as citizens into society. W.E.B. Du Bois, a towering black
intellectual, scholar and political thinker (1868 1963) said no Washington s strategy would serve
only to perpetuate white oppression. Du Bois was one of the founders of the NAACP (National

Why Is Mark Twain Successful
In river boating, the phrase, Mark Twain, was used to ensure the safety of traveling through the
water. However, nowadays, the phrase associates more with the acclaimed author of classics such as
The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn and The Adventures of Tom Sawyer: the father of American
literature himself, Mark Twain. Long before his fame and success, Twain went simply by the name
of Sam Clemens. Before fame, he devoted his days to learning the ways of the Mississippi Rivers
and was on his way to become a respected steamboating pilot. And so, it was there where he heard,
for the first time, the eventual, and one day, historical, pen name: Mark Twain. During his time on
the Mississippi, Twain grew to love the river and all of its constantly... Show more content on

He was also known to sleepwalk and had a delicate health that brought the Clemens trepidation,
as well as frequent doctor visits that required a decent pay. At one point, Sam had contracted the
measles and fell deathly ill. In his autobiography, Twain recalls the event rather pleased with the
outcome: I have never enjoyed anything in my life any more than I enjoyed dying that time....The
word had been passed and the family notified to assemble around the bed and see me off. I knew
them all....They were all crying, but that did not affect me. I took but the vaguest interest in it and
that merely because I was the center of all this emotional attention and was gratified by it and vain

Corporate Governance And Regulation In Australia
it might be said:
I Introduction
The primary problem with the current approach to regulation in Australia is that it predominantly
links corporate interests to those of the shareholders, with little or no consideration given to the
employees, the community, consumers and other stakeholders. This essay will explore the concepts
of corporate governance and regulation and then critique the hard law, soft law and hybrid
approaches to regulation. An explanation will then be provided as to why the hybrid approach
remains the most appropriate regulation mechanism, followed by an explanation of the hybrid
solution identified to get corporations to consider the interests of key stakeholders.
II Discussion
A Defining corporate governance and regulation
Over the past few decades the term corporate governance has become quite commonplace, with
considerable debate arising as to the intersection between corporate governance and regulation. The
scope and content of corporate governance in and of itself is quite wide, capturing the structures,
processes and systems, both formal and informal, by which power is exercised, constrained,
monitored and accounted for in the management of a corporation .
Similarly, the definitions provided of regulation in literature are broad ranging, but they ultimately
highlight the role of regulation in controlling corporate conduct. Nonetheless, it should be noted
that these mechanisms of control are not limited to legislation, administrative

A Boy s Playing At War
1.How does the boy s playing at war comment on the motivation for adults to wage war? On the
horrifying carnage of the battlefield? Consider what message about war the child has learned
from his picture books. Just as the child did not understand the gravity of the situation, neither do
adults, specifically the politicians who declare war. Perhaps just as the child s upbringing
prevented him from discerning whether a human was suffering or whether it was a game, adults
that wage war have the same perspective. For example, when he observes the soldiers crawling
on their knees it reminds him of his riding on the slaves backs at his house. What I am getting at
is, just as the child was conquering imaginary enemies, the adults that wage war are letting their
childish emotions affect the lives of thousands of people. The child s distorted perception of the
carnage on the battlefield is a direct result of his upbringing. Plenty of examples exist. To name a
few; first, Bierce states, ... for this child s spirit, in bodies of its ancestors, had for many thousands

It was heroic to serve your country on the battlefield and you will well respected for it. However,

war is far skewed from the actual reality, the role of Romanticism played a part in this ideology
held by many. The brutal violence one is subject to experience as a soldier in war is unforgettable.
Just as the deaf child, blind to his surroundings, saw nothing wrong with war until he arrived at his
burning house to find his mother dead, a great deal of others don t understand the gravity of the
situation as well. Bierce concealed this fact until the end to delineate that war is not some not how

women, especially the media, how would they ever be able to view their body as sufficient or even
adequate without any alteration? Would it be possible for breastimplants to really solve the issue of
having a negative body image? After a womangets breast implants, where would the unnatural

Getting breast implants helps those women that are struggling with self confidence. It helps them
feel of worth and see themselves in a positive light. Having a positive body image plays such a
large role in one s life. Having a negative body image with no self confidence can cause many other
issues such as depression, anxiety, and other similar disorders. If you are self conscious about your
chest, then getting implants might help. A study done by Lippincott measured the efficacy of
breast augmentations. This study showed that the women who underwent this procedure came out
with a very new found positive body image along with decreased self consciousness, heightened self
confidence, and just an overall better feeling about themselves (Lippincott 502). Getting breast
augmentation may help increase self image in women who struggle with low self esteem, as found
from this study.
There is an increase in the amount of women getting breast implants today, and the reason the
numbers are growing may be because the media and others have influenced women to feel this
way. They may guide women to think that their bodies are inadequate without the perfect breast
size, but regardless of outside influences some women need a boost in self confidence. Breast
implants can help these women to feel great about themselves and can help them to live a happier
and fuller life. Women that experience breast cancer often have to get parts of their breasts or even

Age Of New Imperialism Analysis
During the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries, Europe was experiencing an Age of Discovery, led by
the spanish. During this time, nations in Europe were mostly ruled by absolute monarchs, and the
lower classes were repressed. Furthermore, Europe was in constant religious warfare, as
Protestantism had recently arose and created divisions in once united territories. Centuries later,
Europeonce again began reaching for international control. This resurgence of exploration is known
as the Age of New Imperialism. The European nations during the Age of New Imperialism had
modern governments, including Socialist and Communist parties, and had just arose from a time of
internal turmoil and revolutions. During this time, from the late nineteenth century... Show more

During the Age of Discovery, most nations had absolute monarchs, and thus the glory received
from expeditions abroad would directly go to the monarch, rather than to the nation itself. This is
evidenced by the extravagant palaces of Versailles and el Escorial, which were constructed using
the profits from the Age of Discovery. Furthermore, many European nations had impoverished
lower classes, that only suffered while the extravagant monarchs indulged in the new income from
overseas trade. In contrast, during the nineteenth century and the Age of New Imperialism, the
glory received from conquest would increase the nationalism of the entire country. This patriotic
fervor gripped nations and was the cause of both unification and warfare. Specifically, this
nationalism and glory was used by King Charles X of France who gained more power by
increasing the patriotism of his people. Despite his absolutist rule, the people of France did not
rebel, as they were proud of their nation s African expansion. In conclusion, the motivation of glory
while expanding is similar in both of the ages of international growth of European

Four Rules to Being Short
Rule #1: Do not EVER try to reach for something high if you can just barely touch it with your
fingertips. I say this because you ll have to stretch as much as you can and eventually you ll feel
like you pulled something in your foot. Trust me, if this happens to you, then it will take a while
for your foot to stop hurting so if need be, climb or use a step stool. It doesn t have to be a certain
thing. Use a chair or wood block maybe. As long as you can step up on it, reach what you need,
and not have a fear of falling over then it s a step stool. Now, don t go about stepping on just
anything. Don t even try to put all your weight on something that might break under you. I don t
even need to tell you the consequences on that. Either you already know it, or you can figure it
out on your own. Reaching things in upper cabinets presents a unique set of challenges. Have
you ever tried climbing on the counter at 6:30 in the morning? It s a death trap waiting to
happen, but if you re short and hungry, you ll take your chances. First off, you have to jump up
and be able to hold yourself while you lift your legs and plant them under you so you sit on your
knees. This is so that you can elevate yourself if you still can t reach what you want. Obviously,
opening the cabinet door is tricky because you re right in front of it so you have to be careful
about how you bend so there is room to open it up. At this point, you have a high risk of falling
backwards so make sure

Although physical torture is now illegal, it does not stop police from using other methods of
psychological deception. One of the most popular methods is showing the suspect falsified or
fabricated evidence, otherwise known as a false evidence ploy (FEP). There are three
categories: demeanor, testimonial and scientific. A study done in 2007 showed that ninety two
percent of a sample of 631 policemen used FEPs to gain a confession (Forrest, 2012). Demeanor
FEPs are characterized by the behavior of the suspect and using those assumptions to determine
whether or not he or she is guilty. Sayings such as We can tell the way you re acting that you are
not innocent and You don t seemed surprised or sad that he is dead show that detectives and
police use the suspects appearance and behavior to specify guilt, even though there is no evidence
proving it. Testimonial FEPs are one of the most common and consist of eyewitnesses, video
surveillance or a co conspirator that puts them at the place and time of the crime. In 2009 Nash and
Wade conducted a study showing the power behind this kind of FEP. All of the participants signed
and admission of guilt when viewing a falsified video recording or even the threat that there might
be incriminating evidence. Scientific FEPs are viewed as the most deceptive and coerced due to
their seemingly undeniable nature. These include fingerprints, DNA, medical reports and other
forensic evidence. In a survey it was

Thomas Hobbes No Legal System
In a world where no legal system or no police force exist, one will assume corruption and havoc
will arise and that is exactly what will happen. With no force to prevent humans from committing
crimes or selfish acts, society will crumble. Thus, why we need a legal system and police force
around to enforce punishments to those who commit any wrong doings. There is a need for a
higher authority to keep life from being led astray.
No legal system, no police force and no government is a recipe for disaster. Life needs order and
without order, all direction in life is lost. Hobbes strongly believed and made numerous points
about life under the sovereignty and why it should be obeyed. He states that civilisation cannot co

Introduction The American Revolution is defined as the political turbulence that took place
towards the end of eighteenth century when thirteen colonies in America united to attain freedom
from the British Empire (Clifford, 2005). The union of the thirteen colonies is now known as the
United States of America. According to Clifford (2005), the American Revolutionoccurred because
of a series of political, intellectual, and social transformations in the American government and
society, which is known as the American Enlightenment. The American Revolution created a
variety of opportunities for the American slaves to attain freedom (Waldstreicher, 2004). Slaves

An approximate of three thousand slaves escaped from their masters in 1781 when the British
invaded Virginia (Blumrosen Blumrosen, 2006). About five thousand and twenty thousand slaves
in Georgia and South Carolina, respectively, were freed from bondage as a result of the American
Revolution (Clifford, 2005). The Revolution s natural rights philosophy inspired the freed blacks to
request the state legislatures to get rid of slavery and Congress to terminate the slave trade
(Waldstreicher, 2004). Many of the freed slaves moved to the North because they believed that
living conditions were better in the North than in the South. Unfortunately, they experienced
many problems in the North, such as lack of jobs, insufficient food, and lack of housing, which
forced many of them to go back to the south to work on the cotton plantations for wages
(Clifford, 2005). In the South, the freed slaves were assured of food and housing. Therefore, the
population of slaves started to grow again in the 1790s and spread into other lands that became the
cotton belt (Clifford, 2005). At round 1793, cotton cultivation expanded into large scale as a result
of the invention of gin. The slaves in the southern states were used as laborers in spite of the
American Revolution s natural rights philosophy (Clifford, 2005). According to Clifford (2005),

The Right And Bear Arms
Christal Blege
April 23, 2015
Professor Swint.
The right to bear arms? Our second amendment right is something that I feel that most
Americans would go to war over. I never grew up around guns, I have never held a gun, or
discharged a gun. More importantly, I have never used a gun to protect me, my property or my
family. This is why I fail to see the fascination people have with the right to own a gun, especially
military grade firearms like assault rifles. Assault rifles were designed to kill people and have no
legitimate civilian purpose. (Infobased Learning 2008) So why then is ok for every ordinary Joe
over the age of 21 with a permit to own one. Statistically speaking one in every three people in the
U.S. own at least one firearm, and of those 48% own four or more firearms. In the past 40 years the
percentage of gun ownership has gone from forty seven percent to thirty four percent. But guns do
serve other purposes like protection and safety.
When having a conversation about gun rights it is clear that it veers towards American standards
and values. It comes back to a very basic question, how big of a role should the government have in
our everyday lives. We put our faith in our justice system most of the time. So when the highest
court in the land gets together and debates and interprets the second amendment to mean that the
individual has the right to own guns, we shouldn t debate it. another argument that gun control
supporters use is ,with stricter gun

Savagery In Lord Of The Flies Essay
A quotation by Xun Zi states, Human nature is evil, and goodness is caused by intentional
activity. The evil and savagery of human nature thrives in William Golding s allegory, The Lord of
the Flies, emerging through the devolving state of the boys minds. Golding implies throughout the
novel that humanity naturally reverts to cruelty and savagery. Two characters, however, fail to
follow the rest of the group toward evil since they embody the moral goodness and intellectual
aspects of a civilization. Their deaths bring the downfall of all order on the island. Through the
deaths of Simon and Piggy, Golding implies how the inherent evil of human nature drowns out the
good in a society like it did for the anti intellectual Khmer Rouge and the murder of Emil
Grunzweig.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Golding employs the direct diction, The beast stumbled into the horseshoe... Simon was crying
out... Kill the beast... (168) to imply the blind savagery that overtakes the boys as they mistake
Simon for the beast. The phrase kill the beast chanted by the mob suggests their fear and
adrenaline fuel the urgent desire for blood. This becomes significant as the reader realizes that
the boys act on behalf of the evil nature of the beast inside of them. The author affirms that all of
the boys felt the effects of the beast within them through Ralph s statement, I wasn t scared... I
was I don t know what I was (173). This quotations displays Ralph s uncertainty and confusion
over Simon s death. This becomes significant as the boys lose their hold on sanity once anchored
through Simon. Although Simon s death allows the group to lose hold of their goodness, Piggy s
death causes all order to cease on the

There are many today who are in search of knowledge and wisdom hoping to find within these

that life holds for us. Gaining these qualities may take many a lifetime to achieve. Once one is in

In contrast to knowledge, wisdom is generally considered to be morally good. What makes this
correct? Albert Einstein once said, Wisdom is not a product of schooling but of the lifelong
attempt to acquire it. A process such as gaining wisdom is lengthy and arduous, which teaches the
pursuer patience and humility. Seldom have we found a person who is unchanged by such a trial.
When one finally uncovers insight that they believe to be universally applicable, wisdom or truth,
it often inspires those to make the best of the life they have and use this newly found wisdom to
grow and to build themselves in a way they deem acceptable for themselves.
In Douglas Adam s novel The Hitchhiker s Guide to the Galaxy, wisdom is subtly spoken of as a

exists based on His and man s logic. It states: Now it is such a bizarrely improbable coincidence
that anything so mindbogglingly useful could have evolved purely by chance that some thinkers

The argument goes something like this: I refuse to prove that I exist, says God, for proof denies
faith, and without faith I am nothing.
But, says Man, the Babel fish is a dead giveaway isn t it? It could not have evolved by chance. It
proves you exist, and so therefore by your own arguments, you don t. QED.

Paleolithic Art Essay
Paleolithic art is the oldest known style of art to mankind. It lasted from 42,000 BCE to 8,000
BCE. This is the time of when humans that are now referred to as cavemen existed. This is also
the time period after the ice age. Paleolithic people were not confined to any specific geographic
parameter because they were nomadic, but much evidence of Paleolithiclife comes from parts of
Asia, Europe, and Africa. They often traveled from place to place depending on the availability of
natural resources for survival. The term Paleolithic literally means Old Stone Age. They
manufactured sharp weapons out of pebbles and rock in order to have stone tools available for
hunting purposes. Hunting was a part of their livelihood and they depended heavily on it. They
survived on hunting wild animals and birds, fishing and collecting fruits... Show more content on

They sketched with colored materials and charcoal. It has also been found that they invented a way
to spray paint through hollow bone or by mouth. Several pigments were used, and shading and
shadowing techniques were skillfully employed. Images were often crowded close to and on top of
each other. Paleolithic artists also created sculptures. Although they were not as common as
paintings, most sculptures that modern humans discovered were found in caves. The most common
types of sculpture were reliefs and human animal hybrids along with figures of women referred to
as Venuses. Relief sculptures are a type of three dimensional art forms that were made by taking full
advantage of the natural contours and fissures of cave walls and floors to give the maximum three
dimensional effect. Paleolithic artists did not create colossal sculptures. Since they were nomadic,
they made the sculptures small enough to take with them when they traveled. Many of these
portable sculptures are thought to be used in hunting

Senate Meetings Between The Republican And Democrat Party...
While watching the committee meetings between the Republican and Democrat party
committee I noticed many things that were the same while also observing many things that
were different. Every four years, the Democratic Party puts together our party platform, the
ideas and beliefs that govern our party as a whole. Not only does each party take certain stances
on specific issues , they also have a different guidelines and atmospheres surrounding them that
affects their decisions. Republicans are normally more conservative, their primary focus is
directed more towards a limited influence on government and a dominant foreign policy. They
are also for religion, anti beauracracy , and pro military. As to where Democrats are considered
to be more liberal and adhere to more improving the quality of people lives to achieve equality.
Although there were a handful of things to pick from that were different with each party they
were similar in how they incorporated their policy s and laws. They both voted by raise of hands
and saying yay or neigh to the topic. The first committee video I decided to watch was the
Republican committee, which was a short video compared to democratic video. During the video
they spoke about the first amendment, and asked delegate Wilson to present his ideas. they
presented the amendment on the screen and spoke about what should be changed. The amendment
spoke about how he felt that children should be raised in an intact biological family household.

Juvenile Delinquency And The Juvenile Justice System
Abstract
This paper explores eleven published articles that report on results from research conducted on the
factors that contribute to juvenile delinquency and the solutions to correct or prevent this
delinquency. In the history of the construction and implementing federal laws, it has been
imperative to take actions and make procedures in response to the increasing number of minors
who violate the laws. The formation of a juvenile justice system that is made up of proper course
and development was created. It is important to point out the reasons why these juveniles do
offensive and criminal acts in order to form systematic and efficient solutions. These factors have
been the basis in creating solutions against juvenile delinquency. The juvenile justice system made
certain steps and processes to respond and take action against juvenile crime. They created facilities
where the accused juvenile can be rehabilitated for a certain time so that he or she will be
transformed by the time he or she leaves the reform center. Families, schools, and communities are
encouraged to get involved for the betterment of the youth. They are suggested to be a strong
support to the youngsters and join them with other activities that promote self esteem,
development, and self confidence to keep them away from trouble. It is also recommended that
they take note of each of the factors and to make solutions individually in response to the existing
issues.

Concentration Camp Dachau Research Paper
Throughout our country s history, there have been very few generations that have been alive during
a time in which our country is not at war. One of the most common wars the United States was a
part of was World War II. This war was fought from 1939 until 1945, regarding the acts of certain
countries such as Germany, Italy, and Japan. These countries were violating human rights by
placing innocent individuals, that they considered to be weak, into concentration camps. Humans
of today s society should be required to learn about the conditions of concentration camps, the
treatment towards the prisoners in concentration camps, and the aftermath of concentration camps,
to prevent the history from repeating itself. Leading up to World War II, the Nazi party... Show

on a death march from Dachau to Tegernsee on April 27th, 1945. The next day, most of the SS
officials abandoned the camp. On April 29th, Dachau was liberated after a small battle between
the US and the remaining SS officials. One of the individuals that helped liberate Dachau
described his arrival into the camp as Incinerators were used to cremate victims partly to reduce
the need for burial but also in an attempt to hide the evidence of mass murder and camp
atrocities. At Dachau, American troops arrived to find dead bodies still piled around the camp
awaiting cremation or burial ( Dachau ). This shows how poorly the prisoners were treated
because they didn t even have the privilege of being buried, they were just thrown into a pile of
dead bodies. In the camp, after liberation, there were over thirty thousand survivors. Americans

Essay on My Side of the Mountain by Jean Craighead George
My Side of the Mountain by Jean Craighead George
This book is told from the diary of the main character, Sam Gribley. Sam is a boy full of
determination. He didn t give up and go home like everyone thought he would. He is strong of
mind. After the first night in the freezing rain, with no fire and no food, he still went on. He is a
born survivor. He lasted the winter, through storms, hunger, and loneliness, and came out on top
even when everyone expected him to fail. The land is no place for a Gribley p. 9
The story starts out with Sam remembering how he first got to be in his tree in the Catskills. A run

apartment. None of them liked ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Some other animals however did not become Sam s dinner, but his friends. The weasel, who
when they first met yelled and screamed at him, jumped on him, went to his head, messed it up,
screamed and yelled some more and walked away. Sam named him the Baron due to his royal
behavior. Another friend of his was a raccoon, which he dubbed, Jessie Coon James.
As I had pointed out before his diet was varied. Among the things he ate were: caught fresh
mussels, trout, frogs, turtles, and crayfish. He ate apples, wild strawberries, wild dandelion
greens, bloodroots, and cattail roots. He made salt from boiling birch bark to season his food with.
He did manage to retrieve a deer a poacher had shot. That was pretty scary though, as the poacher
came to his camp looking for the deer. After skinning the deer he tanned the hide in an old oak
stump. He felled the stump, burned a hole in it, and put the deerskin in it for five days, then took
it out to dry. He was able to dry deer meat, make a door for his house, made leg straps (called
jesses) for Frightful, and used the bones for spearheads.
One day in the woods he noticed a falcon, watched it, felt she had a nest, followed her, climb the
steep sheer cliffs, and retrieved a young falcon. The mother came back to the nest just as Sam was
taking the bird. She attacked Sam until she discovered there were still two more babies in the nest.
Sam named his falcon Frightful, as the experience was just that.

Case Study: Royal Bank of Canada in Thailand
1. What were RBC s ultimate goals in opening a representative office in Thailand?
When RBC opened a representative office in Thailand in the early 1980 s, its ultimate goal was to
obtain a full branch license. RBC felt that Thailand had the potential to become a regional financial
center, and they certainly wanted to have an established presence in a country with this sort of
opportunity. RBC also had the corporate goal of increasing the amount of its business generated
from non Canadian sources. With RBC locations in Asia already accounting for 16% of their total
international earning assets, opening a new branch in Asia seemed likely to help achieve the bank s

Thailand s most important exports are tourism and manufactured products. Manufactured products
such as: clothing, electronic parts and components, furniture, and jewelry account for 81% of the

for 13% of the country s total export revenue.
7. What is the current (1997) situation in Thailand?

After a decade of sustained growth, the current situation in Thailand is one of unprecedented
economic turmoil. The countries exports have halted, foreign investors have become hesitant with
their money due to the account deficit, the stock market plummeted, and big loans made by banks
have caused a large accumulation of debt. Typical causes of an economic crisis, such as: high debt,
large current account deficit, deregulation of the banking industry without proper controls in place,
and a semi fixed exchange rate are all at the forefront of the nation s current economic state.
8. What are the highlights of the IMF s bailout of Thailand?
The IMF s bailout of Thailand was an agreement that would give the Thai government $16.7 billion
in loans in exchange for the country adopting a tough program of economic and financial reforms.
These reforms required the closing of 16 finance firms; these 16 firms would either have to merge
with other banks, or submit their own rehabilitation plan. This agreement with the IMF

Differences Between European Spanish And Latin American...
There are numerous variations of Spanish, of course, and a native speaker is expected to
understand all those variations, but for a new learner it can be confusing, since each Spanish
speaker country has their own accent, dialects, how to people address each other, and the way
they conjugate the verbs. The purpose of this essay is contrast and compare the differences
between European Spanish and Latin America Spanish when it comes about pronunciation,
vocabulary, phonological differences and so on. The most notable difference is Ustedes vs
Nosotros. European Spanish has two plural forms for the English you when address two or more
people, which is Vosotros and Ustedes. In Spain, both are used. Vosotros is the option for
informal conversations, while ustedes is used in formal context. In contrast, in Latin America
you will always use ustedes to refer to a group. It does not matter if you are talking to your
friends, bosses, or your parents (Nagel). Subsequent the last point, we are going to discuss Usted
versus Tu versus vos. In Latin America, usted is more common to hear, but, once people is getting
more comfortable with each other, they may request you to use the tu form, which is reserved for
family and friends. But in some countries, such as Paraguay, El Salvador, Argentina and Honduras
they use vos instead of tu, which is equally informal. Same case in Spain, usted is reserved for
very formal situations. Instead, tu you can use it with younger people or informal

Compare And Contrast Monty Python And The Holy Grail
Chivalry and courtly love are two Arthurian sentiments displayed in Monty Python and the Holy
Grail, Le Morte d Arthur, and Sir Gawain and the Green Knight. Monty Python and the Holy
Grail differs from Le Morte d Arthur and Sir Gawain and the Green Knight because the film
satirizes chivalry and courtly love while the other works are upholding it as orthodox. Courtly love
from the Middle Ages consisted of knights chasing a fair maiden while always being respectful and
courteous to her. Chivalry is a code of conduct that King Arthurs conventional knights uphold,
which includes remaining honorable and ready to help the weak. Monty Python and the Holy Grail
is a lampoon that utilizes satire to ridicule chivalry and courtly love to not only amuse... Show more

This chivalrous act is derided in Monty Python and the Holy Grail when King Arthur confronts the
Black Knight blocking the path to the bridge. King Arthur insists on crossing the bridge instead
of going around, forcing a confrontation between the Arthur and the Black Knight. Arthur
shows no mercy in the battle and cuts the Black Knight s limbs off, one by one. This
demonstrates satire because as the Black Knights limbs are being cut off, King Arthur continues
to slice at him, displaying an exaggeration of showing no mercy. The Black Knight persists
against Arthur, also mocking how one must never recoil before the enemy, even if one s limbs
are removed. In Le Morte d Arthur, King Arthur is merciless against Modred, his bastard son
whom attempts to take over King Arthur s kingdom, and pierces Modred with a spear. This
instance is an example of chivalry because King Arthur does not hesitate to kill his own son nor
does he display clemency. Modred as a response does not recoil, which is also is in the code of
conduct of chivalry. When a knight faces the enemy, he should never flinch or shy away because
of fear. This aspect of chivalry is parodied in Monty Python and the Holy Grail when King Arthur
and his knights brawled with the Killer Rabbit of Caerbannog. The Killer Rabbit is an unearthly
creature because it leaps incredible lengths and wrenches a knight s head off with one bite. This
scene is executed to make the confrontation appear ridiculous to the audience by the otherworldly
rabbit decapitating one of King Arthur s praised knights, proving them to be inept in battle. In Sir
Gawain and the Green Knight, the Green Knight, a mystic man with a green complexion and a
body made of nature, challenges a knight to a beheading game. When Sir Gawain accepts this
challenge, he decapitates the Green Knight, whom proceeds to ride away although

Christianity in William Blake s Works
Christianity in Blake Theology is actually one of the many topics that frequently appears in a
variety of work of English poet William Blake. A brief overview of some of the author s more
noted works such as The Marriage of Heaven and Hell , The Book of Thel , and Songs of
Innocence and Experience readily attest to this fact. In Songs of Innocence and Experience,
however, a number of the author s poems seem to integrate a decidedly Christian worldview
within their text and the cosmology presented to readers through these works. This proclivity of
Blake s is particularly salient in The Chimney Sweeper and The Lamb . In fact, one can argue that
most of the fundamental beliefs that Christianity is based upon are found within these poems,
which serve as excellent examples of the author s tendency to write poems that adhere to a
decidedly Christian viewpoint. Thematically, each of the aforementioned poems details some of
the central precepts in Christianity. This point is made abundantly clear when one analyzes The
Chimney Sweeper , which connotes situations that are analogous to the redeeming grace of Jesus
whose presence and divinity the religion of Christianity is based upon for sinners: which is
implied by the dirt and soot that characterizes the young chimney sweepers in this poem. Within
this poetic work Blake makes allusions to the sacrament of baptism, in which the redeemed
chimney sweepers are primarily able to earn God s grace after they wash in a river

The Wrestler, By Darren Aronofsky Essay
The human condition, or what it means to be human, is a term the encoumpasses the innate and
unchangable aspects of human nature. It is the unique and inherent features of being human,
uninfluenced by factors such as race, class, gender or time. This idea has been examined through
literature for hundreds of years by the likes of Shakespeare, who through his philosophical depth
has given profound insights into human nature. As Noam Chomsky expressed it is quite possible
overwhelmingly probable, one might guess that we will always learn more about human life and
personality from novels than from scientific psychology. Darren Aronofsky s 2008 film The
Wrestler, due to its emotive exploration of what it means to be human, is strikingly compelling and
speaks to the audience on a human level. The film is a poignant portrayal of a washed up wrestler,
Randy, in the twilight of his career. Through Randy, Aronofsky is able to explore intrinsic
characteristics that define the human condition such as humans need for relationships and
connections, search for recognition, and awareness of the inevitability of death. Cormac McCarthy
s The Road is an exemplary novel which discusses the human condition and where these ideas are
also seen. Texts that explore what it means to be human are most compelling as they impart
knowledge about aspects of human nature that reside in us all, and rous strong feelings of interest
among the reader or audience. Sociality is essential to human

The Struggle In Sonny s Blue By James Baldwin
Sonny s Blue by James Baldwin is a story about two brothers who grew up in poverty. One
brother went on to become a teacher, while the other pursued his dreams to become a musician
and finds himself in prison due to drug use. The story begins with the narrator finding out about
Sonny s arrest. It s easy to see his shock and almost disbelief. It takes the narrator a while to write
to Sonny, but eventually he does, and they regain communication with one another after over a
year of silence. Sonny is released from prison and goes to stay with the narrator and his family.
He is staying clean, and he continues to pursue his dreams of making music. The narrator also
finally sees that Sonny is very talented and that music really was his calling. The two brothers are
very different, though they grew up in the same setting. They have different ways of escaping
Harlem, they have different aspirations and goals, and they have different personalities and views
on life.
From the beginning of the story, it is clear that the brothers have different views of Harlem and
how to become successful. The oldest of the two, the narrator, who remains unnamed, became
successful after returning from war and became a teacher. He wed and had a family. Sonny, the
younger brother, was successful in a sense because he got out of Harlem, but at the same sense, he
fell into drug use and wound up in prison, trapped behind bars. The narrator sees the drug use and

Introduction:
In this contemporary and fast pacing world, businesses cannot work without the assistance of
proper management. Management plays a very vital role in today s world. There are innumerable
factors which are responsible for the success of a business. One of the factors is proper
management. Success of a business depends on how well a business is able to implement
management procedures, tactics and judgments. May it be a big or a small organization,
management is crucial in the workings of all businesses.

But it is not precisely like regular sciences such as physics, chemistry and biology. The chief
reason for the inaccuracy for management to be a science is that it deals with various human
beings and behavior varies from person to person. In this case, foreseeing conclusions becomes a
very tedious job. As management deals with human beings it can be considered as a social science.
The principles or theories implemented could produce innumerable outcomes, therefore it could be
categorized as a behavioral science as well.

A La Carte By Web Based Services Essay
Nowadays, budget conscious customers look at ways to avoid paying for expensive bundles
cable TV offers. They prefer to choose a la carte programming offered by web based services. A la
carte approach to programming enables the subscribers to pay for only the channels they really
want to watch. Several companies including Verizon, Walt Disney
and Viacom provide their
customers with content they are interested in without the need of paying for channels they are not
willing to watch. No wonder there is a lot of competition between the largest operators in the
wireless and cable industry like Verizon, Dish and Comcast.
In 2014 Verizon Communication chief, Lowell McAdam, said that Web and mobile devices require
a different approach than traditional cable. He stated that Web and mobile users don t desire to
have hundreds of channels on their wireless device (Albanesius, 2014). Verizon looks into the
future and understands the need of implementing changes and satisfying customers. The company
wants to move in the right direction and allow their customers to have more control over the
programming.
Dish is another company that has made their services more attractive to their customers. The
company strives to increase the value of their products and services. Dish offers live local broadcast
and channels like ABC Family or ESPN over mobile devices and set top box. Dish s customers are

One of the manifest functions of his statements will be the immediate gain in votes and support
he would receive from the gay marriage community. His actions might also create other manifest

A latent function will probably be one that is seen down the road, it will likely come from a

Analysis Of The Story Eveline By James Joyce
Eveline The story begins with a silver lining in a memory that deepens into a pit of depression
The narrator helps to describe her memories as Eveline, staring blankly out a window, wallows
in her conflicting feelings of adoration and isolation. Today in many places, what takes place in
Dublin during 1914 as common place family dynamics, can be recognized as a cyclical pattern
of abuse between a controlling and manipulative father, his demure and defenseless wife, and
their helpless and hopeful children. In the story Eveline written by James Joyce the main
character is suffering from symptoms of vicarious trauma and abuse, and although she
recognizes, and fantasizes about the option and possibility of a better life, ultimately she finds
herself a victim of circumstance, frozen in time, unable to make a decision, she is forced to
watch her opportunity fade from her grasp. Eveline exhibits the qualities of a young woman who
has spent her life exposed to traumatic, systematic abuse. As she looks out over the field of her
childhood, reaching into the past to pull forward the memories of friends and happiness, a foul
taste creeps in to her mind of Her father [who] used often to hunt them in out of the field with his
blackthorn stick; (Joyce) and the author gives the first indicator that Eveline s life has been little
more than tragic. An abusive parent is bad enough, but the real despair she must feel is driven home
when Eveline s thoughts reveal the unthinkable: her

Negative Effect Of Video Games
Yesterday a child killed 16 people and injured many more in less than 20 mins. He is just a child,
how is this possible? Video games have become more popular with children, and adolescents,
copious amount of video games exposes children to violence. Did you know that children and
adolescents who played more violent games were most likely to report aggressive cognitions
and behaviors? (Toppo 2015) In today s society, violent video games such as Call of Duty have a
negative effect on health, growth and development, and posing a bad influence for children and
young adults. Due to the advancing technology video games are becoming more popular,
therefore having a negative effect on children and young adults. Call of Duty has a negative
effect on children due to the fact it is one of the most played video games. The plot of the story
is about a soldier in the military, whom of which you are fighting for your country. The video

the game is that it is realistic, therefore you see blood, violence and other negative stimulants that

The Development of the Science of †Race’ Essay
The purpose of this chapter is to discuss the implications of the thematic analysis of the subject
field. It connects the themes of the interviews with the literature on racial stereotypes and it s
impact on individuals and the sport they participate in.
The development of the science of race is regarded within the main literatures to have emerged
during the late eighteenth and nineteenth century (Gouldburg, 1990). People where trying to
explain human differences and development, which gave way for a verity of racial classifications
and racial stereotypes (Gouldburg, 1990), Gouldburg (1990: 266) states this transformed into a

It is clear to see from the interviews that this notion of black superiority when it comes to sport, is
engrained into society, an example of this comes from P6 when asked what is the dominant race
within your sport? replied every sport is dominated by black people . Many of the interviewees from
both sports state, that when you are younger you do not notice the colour of peoples skin. From
this it can be said as you mature through society it is then that racial stereotyping is more
apparent, hence racial stereotyping is a social construct (Gouldburg, 1990). This is not a modern
phenomenon; people have been placing values on skin colour based on whom they have interacted
with for hundreds of years, this dates as far back to the Tran Atlantic slave trade in the 1500s
(Jablonski, 2009).
The normalising of racial stereotypes can lead to prejudice thoughts and actions. An example of
this is P6 and P7 that play basketball state that white people are usually only good at the shooting
roles within a team, P6 even went as far to say if a white person could not shoot then they would
not be allowed on the team. The notion that white people can only take on the less athletic but more

Civilization Vs Civilization
Civilization is one of the greatest human inventions. From civilization we gain basic justice,
morality and security. Although civilization is a powerful force, it is fragile. The book The Lord
of The Flies by William Golding, strands a group of schoolboys on an uninhabited island and
follows them as their tropical paradise becomes a hell on earth. As the boys situation becomes
more dire and fear takes hold their makeshift society crumbles around them. The boys let
civilization crumble as they turn towards savagery. When the group first lands on the island, their
civilization is at its strongest because they respect and listen to Ralph. When the boys hold their
first meeting they decide they need a leader. Ralph says ВЁWho wants me?Вґ Every hand outside
the choir except Piggy s was raised immediatelyВЁ (Golding, 23). This act of voting shows that
civilization is strong. This is because, to hold an election each individual has to value the groupВґs
choice above his own. Even Jack accepts that Ralph is in charge even though he thinks he would
be a better leader. Ralph also says IВґll give the conch to the next person to speak. He can hold it
when he is speaking . . . And he won t be interrupted.ВЁ (33). This shows the boys creating rules.
Rules are another product of a strong civilization; they keep everyone safe and secures their
rights. This rule secures the right of speech for all of the boys. Even though it may be better for
one boy to speak without concern for others; it

Challenges Faced By Government Digital Service
Products and services invented are faced by the challenges they must overcome, these invention also
provide opportunities. Innovation is having a need, which requires a solution. Innovation is a
process of turning new ideas and putting these into widely used practices. (Joe TIdd) Government
digital service is a collection of government s cabinet office with the responsibility of transforming
the government digitalservice.
This essay aims to examine the innovation challenges faced by Government digital service along
with the opportunities, which arise with the invention of government digital service. The Essay
focuses on what is innovate about the government digital service, how sustainable is the operating
model, if GSD was disruptive, strategies GSD can use to establish platform thinking and how GSD
can influence the public s use of government s digital platform.
Inventions such as Government digital services are faced with challenges that incur as a result of
the invention. Due to the nature of government Digital service being a unit of government cabinet
one major challenge it faces is the culture of department silos and their relationships with the IT
oligarchs . Success in innovation appears to depend upon two key ingredients technical resources
(people, equipment, knowledge, money and etc.) and the capabilities in the organization to manage
them. (Joe Tidd j. B.)

Slice Of Life Shows Comparison
Going to school may be a chore for most students, but what if everything was not as it seemed for
a certain student? Both, at least start out as, slice of life shows. Slice of life is a popular genre
in Japanese animation where the story portrays parts of the character s life. It is a genre that is
never by itself and always goes along with other genres such as comedy, drama, or romance. Both
shows have some similarities and differences in the three categories of: types of characters, story
lines, and the format. Both of the shows have a main character that parallel each other. In Love,
Chunibyo Other Delusions, Rikka Takanashi is a delusional character who believes she is a
sorceress possessed by the Eye of the Wicked Lord and wears an eyepatch to seal its power . In
School Live!, Yuki Takeya has delusions of her own, as she believes everything is perfectly fine
and is unable to notice the zombie apocalypse going on around her the whole time. Their reasoning
for believing in their delusions is quite similar in a way, and in both shows, the other characters
tend go along with their delusions to keep them happy. While there are similarities in the characters,
differences obviously exist as well.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
First of all, both shows are in the slice of genre as said before. While Love, Chunibyo Other
Delusions is about the school life of a group of odd characters with some who believe themselves
to have powers, School Live! is about a character who believes herself to have a normal school life
despite the club activities being survival missions to gather more food or equipment to survive the
zombies. The other similarity is that both start out fairly slow as slice of life before getting into
the action or drama heavily near the end. The stories and setup for each show as a zombie or
comedy series influence the differences between each much as more characters are introduced or
backstories are

In the past, different civilizations have been ruled by different forms of government. The U.S.
Democratic Republic, the Roman Republic, and the Athenian Democracy have similar and different

In the U.S. Democratic Republic, it has all three branches of government which are the legislature,
executive, and the judicial branch. Their legislative branch has a Senate of 100 members and
they re elected by the people for a six year term. The Senates make laws and they advise president

Evolution Of Cannon Essay
The Evolution of Cannons and Ammunition In the mid 19th century, the United States of America
had erupted into a civil war. Weaponry and military tactics were evolving at a rapid pace.
Advancements in weapon systems were increasing the maximum effective range of the weapons,
thus making the standoff distance between fighting forces much greater. To remain relevant the
artillery had no other alternative, but to progress with the other tools of warfare. The days of the
smooth bore cannons for breaching fortified walls and short range combat support were concluding.
New technology and advancements to increase range and lethality were imperative to keep the
artillery in the fight. In the 16th century, after the perfection of the cast... Show more content on

The expanding gases from the burning propellant could escape around the projectiles. Prior to mid
19th century, cannon ammunition consisted of round cannon balls of different varieties. Solid
cannonballs (shot), primarily for breeching fortification walls and close support, these
cannonballs did not require a fuse. Another variant of solid shot include chain shot; multiple solid
cannonballs, connected by chain, fired simultaneously to cause greater damage. Chain shot was
very effective in naval battles. Solid shot depended upon sheer kinetic force to achieve the desired
effect on the target. Hollow cannonballs or shells were be filled with gunpowder and other items
such as metal balls or even shards of broken glass. These shells consisted of the shell and either a
percussion fuse that detonates on impact or a time fuse that ignites before or during firing and
burns while in flight to the target. Due to the inconsistency of the percussion fuses on spherical
rounds, gun crews generally depended on a time fuse. Not only were the time fuses dangerous, but
they were very difficult to determine and accurate time. Shells equipped with time fuses frequently

Wounded Knee Massacre Analysis
Gabriel Adler Professor DiGiralamo History 1000 Spring 2015 Wounded Knee Massacre
Historian Heather Cox Richardson, provides a comprehensive analysis of an attempt by the
government to annihilate the native Indians. In her book Wounded Knee: Party Politics and the
Road to an American Massacre, she discusses the well calculated assault by the Whites on the
Plain Indians. Behind this move was not the manifestation of destiny but rather politics; politics
almost wiped out the natives. To illustrate the role of politics, this paper discusses the specific role
of tariff reforms, farmers alliances, republicans and democrats, the silverites, the statehood process,
and the spoils system. Partisan politics played a huge role in realizing the massacre... Show more

It would be a hard story to understand without considering the political factor. The political
factor gives the bridges that join, seemingly independent, incidents into one seamless story. It
makes it possible to see logic in actions which otherwise may seem illogical. One thing that
Richardson does clearly is to show the political pressure that the Republicans were exposed to
and therefore the desperate situation they were in. The author is able to appeal to logo, pathos
and ethos, and thus manages to from a compelling proposition discussing and explaining the
events leading up to the massacre. There is no doubt, readers will not find it hard to align with the
deductions arrived at by Richardson. Her book Wounded Knee is indeed a masterpiece and clearly
explains the overriding political interest that gradually led to the

Nordstrom Organizational Culture
In the 1980 s business experts began to realize the root to organizational success or failure is
through its culture. The culture of an organization is the belief that guides each employee in
knowing what to do and what not to do and it also affect the public perception of the organization s
brand. Therefore culture is the shared social knowledge within an organization regarding the rules,
norms and values (Colquitt, Lepine, Wesson, 2012). Although, no two cultures are alike, there are
components and characteristics that help business experts to define an organization s culture.
Edgar Schein offers direct and indirect mechanisms that helps decipher the organization s culture:

A ritual generally contributes to the process of an organization. However, it does have symbolic
role which personifies the values of the organization. There are several rites and rituals that helps
cultivate Nordstrom s market and service culture.
Ex. 1: Recognizing and celebrating top sellers (Nordstrom, Inc, 2017).
Ex. 2: Organizational leaders engage with employees by holding prep rallies (Nordstrom, Inc, 2017).
Communication
The MNE reinforces their service culture by emphasizing excellent customer service in their
employee handbook a 5 ВЅ x 7 ВЅ card that states; Our number one goal is to provide outstanding
customer service, and for this they have only one rule: Use good judgment in all situations
(Nordstrom, Inc, 2017). The true testament of Nordstrom s philosophy is best illustrated by its
organizational chart that is readily displayed in the employees break room. This chart also depicts
another of Nordstrom s philosophy, it empowers frontline employees by placing them at the top of
the organizational pyramid. This suggest that frontline employees have the freedom to create their

Mark Twain Rhetorical Analysis
Mark Twain was described to be anything and almost everything except for politically correct.
People say that Twain wrote to be controversial, his literary pieces left you enraged, confused, or
combative. Nevertheless, his views and perspectives were still respected. Twain grew up in the
rural back wood area of Missouri, known as a slave state at this time. His father was a widely
respected judge, and his uncle, John Quarles, was a slave master. Quarles owned over 20 slaves,
providing Twain with a personal experience to the practice and institution of slavery. This provided
Twain the opportunity to build a self defined definition and perspective on the institution of slavery.
This explains why the discussion of the assumingly racist perspective... Show more content on

One argument made by people who fully support Mark Twains novel, Huckleberry Finn, say that a
man who pay for a black man s education and feels that slavery should have never been okay,
could not possibly have written a racially offensive novel. (Marx)
Throughout my research I discovered Twain s joy behind the challenging of the ideas of racism
within his writing. He wanted to be known for his perspective and controversial issues. For
example, in his book Pudd nhead Wilson, Twain is left with the question on whether or not white
or black people were different from each other, rather than by skin color. Again in the year 1957
when the National Association for The Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) confronted
Twain on the offensiveness of his novel. Public school systems and parents felt it should not be
used in a integrated school systems.
What you find in Twain is the backwards: an eager warmth and reverence for dull Americans
that began when he was still a child and turned out to be reliably as the years advanced. In a by
and large idolized post Civil War sketch titled A True Story, for occasion, he wrenchingly evoked
the torment of an ex slave as she was secluded from her young tyke on the deal piece, and her
elation at discovering him in a dull regiment at war s

Use of Magical Realism in Chronicle of a Death Foretold...
Use of Magical Realism in Gabriel Garcia Marquez s Chronicle of a Death Foretold
Magical realism is clearly present throughout Gabriel Garcia Marquez s novel Chronicle of a Death
Foretold. Magical realism is the juxtaposition of realism with fantastic, mythic, and magical
elements. A secondary trait was the characteristic attitude of narrators toward the subject matter:
they frequently appeared to accept events contrary to the usual operating laws of the universe as
natural, even unremarkable. Though the tellers of astonishing tales, they themselves expressed
little or no surprise.
Obviously the most concise definition of magical realism is that it is the combination of magical and
real elements. The magical elements that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The bride was given a chest with table settings in pure gold for twenty four guests. They also
brought in a ballet company and two waltz orchestras. (44)
This is clearly exaggeration because there is no doubt that the small poor town could not afford
such lavish gifts. Pedro saying that the pain in his groin had reached his throat and how he could
not sleep for eleven months are signs of magical realism. The narrator said that he believed him
when he said these things.
He was carrying a suitcase with clothing in order to stay and another just like it with almost two
thousand letters that she has written him they were arranged by date in bundles tied with colored
ribbons, and they were all unopened.
No person writes someone two thousand letters with reply let alone without one. This is ridiculous
but we accept it as truth because of Marquez s mastery of magical realism.
Chronicle of a Death Foretold has many humorous parts mostly because they are ludicrous. These
parts are magical realism because the suspend belief through humor.

Cultural Experience Reflection Paper
Cultural Experience Reflection: Spain, Healing Dirt, and Amores Perros When learning a new
language, educating, experiencing, and learning about the culture behind the language is
paramount. It is not simple enough to learn the vocabulary and grammar of Spanish. As a Spanish
1010 student, my learning experience has been enriched through participating in cultural events.
Furthermore, I gained a deeper understanding and appreciation for the language and native
speakers. Over the last semester, I participated in the following three cultural experiences: traveling
to Spain, attending the Healing Dirt event, and watching the movie Amores Perros. Fortunately for
me, these three events covered a variety of issue areas (e.g., religious traditions, language
dynamics, and machismo); additionally, each event was based in different Spanish speaking
countries. Over the past summer, I traveled to Spain and was able experienced the culture and
traditions of the Hispanic people for two weeks. I was struck by how language and cultural
heritage played a major role in shaping the experiences of Hispanic people. The role of language
plays a huge role in shaping the experiences and lives of the people living in Barcelona. In the city
of Barcelona, Catalan and Spanish are the languages spoken. Furthermore, the government only
provides free education to learn Catalan, not Spanish. This preservation of the Catalonian culture
represents the ongoing effort of the Catalonians to gain independence from Spain. Through
preserving the native Catalonian language through law and education, these Hispanic people show
how they adamantly defend their heritage and place high value on preserving Catalonian culture. I
recognized the respect the other Barcelonans had for the Catalonian people. Though their cultures
have many fundamental differences, the non Catalonians living in Barcelona learn how to speak
Catalan in order to communicate, but also to validate the integrity of their cross culture
interactions. This enables an open discussion politically and socially on the issues both cultures
bring to the discussion. After traveling through Spain, I was inspired by the people to learn how to

Hunger Games Essay
When children are forced to grow up fast at a young age due to traumatic events, it shapes them
into fighters, when faced with life and death a person would do almost anything to assure
survival. This is greatly demonstrated in the book The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins when
the main character Katniss Everdeen s world is shifted upside down when her father dies and
when she volunteers as tribute for the Hunger Games. After her father s death the weight of the
world was on Katniss s shoulders, as she had to learn how to provide for, and keep her family
alive. Her family consisted of her mother, who suffered severe depression after the death of her
husband, and her younger sister Prim who meant the world to her. She inherited hunting... Show

Lastly, Katniss volunteered to take her sisters place in the hunger games when Prim s name was
pulled at the reaping. She could not stand the thought of her sister being thrown into such an
awful situation and she did the only thing she could to save her life. Fighting for others when
they were too weak to fight for themselves was another characteristic that Katniss demonstrated
throughout the novel. This was displayed in many cases. One way in which this was portrayed
was when Katniss immediately without giving a thought to the matter decided to enroll herself
in the hunger games in order to ensure Prim s safety as well as to save her the terror of the
despicable games. With one sweep of my arm, I push her behind me. I volunteer! I gasped. I
volunteer as tribute! (Collins 22). This showed how Katniss stood up for her sister and fought
for her when no one else would, she saved Prim s life and she risked it all for her. Katniss also
took care of and risked much for Peeta when he was injured. As soon as it was announced that
two people could win the hunger games if they were from the same district Katniss immediately
made it her priority to find Peeta. She wanted to do everything in her power to assure his survival.
When Katniss did find Peeta he was badly injured and she spent much time and effort in making
him better. At one point she even risked her own life to obtain medicine that would

Essay On Blood Lead Exposure
Blood lead and zinc levels were examined among workers having occupational exposure to these
metals. The effect of the lead exposure was evident due to number of manifestation reported in
this study and the elevation in the levels of lead among workers due to exposure at workplace
environment. The group of workers (W4 and W5) exceed the biological exposure index (BEI) of
American Conference of Governmental Industrial Hygienist (ACGIH) which is set as 30Вµg/dL
(ACGIH, 2011). Clearly these two groups are showing the effect of their extended workplace

Here two assumptions may take birth from this study either zinc has genomic stability properties
directly or it does so by reducing the absorption of lead in the body which in turn may prevent
DNA damage. Several mechanisms involved in genotoxic response for example destabilization of
chromatin may indirectly involve DNA damage (Johansson and Pellicciari, 1988) and impair
repairing process (Hartwig et al. 1990). It is believed that not a single factor could be responsible
for genotoxicity but many factors including dietary could markedly influence the hostility of
genotoxic agents (Hayatsu et al. 1988; Fenech and Rinaldy, 1994). Diets rich in antioxidant can
negatively reduce the risk of several type of human cancer (Byers and Perry 1992). In addition,
workers exposed to chemicals show a significant decrease in chromosome aberration frequency
when given multivitamin in dietary supplements (Lazutka 1996; Emerit et al. 1997). Earlier
studies regarding clastogenic effects of lead are contradictory. Clastogenic effects of lead were
shown in the form of chromosome gaps and breaks by 1% lead acetate in culture mouse
leucocytes (Muro and Goyer 1969). Lead acetate was also shown to increase the frequency of
chromosome aberration on human lymphocytes treated in vitro (Beek and Obe 1974; Obe et al.
1975). However other

As we sat down in our seats, I spotted many cheerleaders from different gyms crowding the airplane. It made me realize what I was walking into and how many athletes were going to be in Dallas. Washington encouraged African Americans to take on discrimination and focus on educating themselves through hard work and discipline. Washington believed that this would win the respect of whites and African Americans would be accepted as citizens into society. W.E.B. • 6. Why Is Mark Twain Successful In river boating, the phrase, Mark Twain, was used to ensure the safety of traveling through the water. However, nowadays, the phrase associates more with the acclaimed author of classics such as The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn and The Adventures of Tom Sawyer: the father of American literature himself, Mark Twain. Long before his fame and success, Twain went simply by the name of Sam Clemens. Before fame, he devoted his days to learning the ways of the Mississippi Rivers and was on his way to become a respected steamboating pilot. And so, it was there where he heard, for the first time, the eventual, and one day, historical, pen name: Mark Twain. I knew them all....They were all crying, but that did not affect me. • 7. Corporate Governance And Regulation In Australia it might be said: I Introduction The primary problem with the current approach to regulation in Australia is that it predominantly links corporate interests to those of the shareholders, with little or no consideration given to the employees, the community, consumers and other stakeholders. This essay will explore the concepts of corporate governance and regulation and then critique the hard law, soft law and hybrid approaches to regulation. An explanation will then be provided as to why the hybrid approach remains the most appropriate regulation mechanism, followed by an explanation of the hybrid solution identified to get corporations to consider the interests of key stakeholders. II Discussion A Defining corporate governance and regulation Over the past few decades the term corporate governance has become quite commonplace, with considerable debate arising as to the intersection between corporate governance and regulation. The scope and content of corporate governance in and of itself is quite wide, capturing the structures, processes and systems, both formal and informal, by which power is exercised, constrained, monitored and accounted for in the management of a corporation . Similarly, the definitions provided of regulation in literature are broad ranging, but they ultimately highlight the role of regulation in controlling corporate conduct. Nonetheless, it should be noted that these mechanisms of control are not limited to legislation, administrative ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 9. A Boy s Playing At War 1.How does the boy s playing at war comment on the motivation for adults to wage war? On the horrifying carnage of the battlefield? Consider what message about war the child has learned from his picture books. Just as the child did not understand the gravity of the situation, neither do adults, specifically the politicians who declare war. Perhaps just as the child s upbringing prevented him from discerning whether a human was suffering or whether it was a game, adults that wage war have the same perspective. For example, when he observes the soldiers crawling on their knees it reminds him of his riding on the slaves backs at his house. What I am getting at is, just as the child was conquering imaginary enemies, the adults that wage war are letting their childish emotions affect the lives of thousands of people. The child s distorted perception of the carnage on the battlefield is a direct result of his upbringing. Plenty of examples exist. To name a few; first, Bierce states, ... for this child s spirit, in bodies of its ancestors, had for many thousands of years been trained to memorable feats of discovery and conquest victories in... The brutal violence one is subject to experience as a soldier in war is unforgettable. Just as the deaf child, blind to his surroundings, saw nothing wrong with war until he arrived at his burning house to find his mother dead, a great deal of others don t understand the gravity of the situation as well. Getting breast implants helps those women that are struggling with self confidence. It helps them feel of worth and see themselves in a positive light. Having a positive body image plays such a large role in one s life. Having a negative body image with no self confidence can cause many other issues such as depression, anxiety, and other similar disorders. If you are self conscious about your chest, then getting implants might help. A study done by Lippincott measured the efficacy of breast augmentations. This study showed that the women who underwent this procedure came out with a very new found positive body image along with decreased self consciousness, heightened self confidence, and just an overall better feeling about themselves (Lippincott 502). Getting breast augmentation may help increase self image in women who struggle with low self esteem, as found from this study. There is an increase in the amount of women getting breast implants today, and the reason the numbers are growing may be because the media and others have influenced women to feel this way. They may guide women to think that their bodies are inadequate without the perfect breast size, but regardless of outside influences some women need a boost in self confidence. Breast implants can help these women to feel great about themselves and can help them to live a happier and fuller life. During the Age of Discovery, most nations had absolute monarchs, and thus the glory received from expeditions abroad would directly go to the monarch, rather than to the nation itself. This is evidenced by the extravagant palaces of Versailles and el Escorial, which were constructed using the profits from the Age of Discovery. Furthermore, many European nations had impoverished lower classes, that only suffered while the extravagant monarchs indulged in the new income from overseas trade. In contrast, during the nineteenth century and the Age of New Imperialism, the glory received from conquest would increase the nationalism of the entire country. This patriotic fervor gripped nations and was the cause of both unification and warfare. Specifically, this nationalism and glory was used by King Charles X of France who gained more power by increasing the patriotism of his people. Despite his absolutist rule, the people of France did not rebel, as they were proud of their nation s African expansion. Although physical torture is now illegal, it does not stop police from using other methods of psychological deception. One of the most popular methods is showing the suspect falsified or fabricated evidence, otherwise known as a false evidence ploy (FEP). There are three categories: demeanor, testimonial and scientific. A study done in 2007 showed that ninety two percent of a sample of 631 policemen used FEPs to gain a confession (Forrest, 2012). Demeanor FEPs are characterized by the behavior of the suspect and using those assumptions to determine whether or not he or she is guilty. Sayings such as We can tell the way you re acting that you are not innocent and You don t seemed surprised or sad that he is dead show that detectives and police use the suspects appearance and behavior to specify guilt, even though there is no evidence proving it. Testimonial FEPs are one of the most common and consist of eyewitnesses, video surveillance or a co conspirator that puts them at the place and time of the crime. In 2009 Nash and Wade conducted a study showing the power behind this kind of FEP. All of the participants signed and admission of guilt when viewing a falsified video recording or even the threat that there might be incriminating evidence. Introduction The American Revolution is defined as the political turbulence that took place towards the end of eighteenth century when thirteen colonies in America united to attain freedom from the British Empire (Clifford, 2005). The union of the thirteen colonies is now known as the United States of America. According to Clifford (2005), the American Revolutionoccurred because of a series of political, intellectual, and social transformations in the American government and society, which is known as the American Enlightenment. An approximate of three thousand slaves escaped from their masters in 1781 when the British invaded Virginia (Blumrosen Blumrosen, 2006). About five thousand and twenty thousand slaves in Georgia and South Carolina, respectively, were freed from bondage as a result of the American Revolution (Clifford, 2005). The Revolution s natural rights philosophy inspired the freed blacks to request the state legislatures to get rid of slavery and Congress to terminate the slave trade (Waldstreicher, 2004). Many of the freed slaves moved to the North because they believed that living conditions were better in the North than in the South. Unfortunately, they experienced many problems in the North, such as lack of jobs, insufficient food, and lack of housing, which forced many of them to go back to the south to work on the cotton plantations for wages (Clifford, 2005). In the South, the freed slaves were assured of food and housing. Therefore, the population of slaves started to grow again in the 1790s and spread into other lands that became the cotton belt (Clifford, 2005). At round 1793, cotton cultivation expanded into large scale as a result of the invention of gin. I never grew up around guns, I have never held a gun, or discharged a gun. More importantly, I have never used a gun to protect me, my property or my family. This is why I fail to see the fascination people have with the right to own a gun, especially military grade firearms like assault rifles. Assault rifles were designed to kill people and have no legitimate civilian purpose. (Infobased Learning 2008) So why then is ok for every ordinary Joe over the age of 21 with a permit to own one. Statistically speaking one in every three people in the U.S. own at least one firearm, and of those 48% own four or more firearms. In the past 40 years the percentage of gun ownership has gone from forty seven percent to thirty four percent. But guns do serve other purposes like protection and safety. When having a conversation about gun rights it is clear that it veers towards American standards and values. It comes back to a very basic question, how big of a role should the government have in our everyday lives. We put our faith in our justice system most of the time. So when the highest court in the land gets together and debates and interprets the second amendment to mean that the individual has the right to own guns, we shouldn t debate it. another argument that gun control supporters use is ,with stricter gun ... The evil and savagery of human nature thrives in William Golding s allegory, The Lord of the Flies, emerging through the devolving state of the boys minds. Golding implies throughout the novel that humanity naturally reverts to cruelty and savagery. Two characters, however, fail to follow the rest of the group toward evil since they embody the moral goodness and intellectual aspects of a civilization. Their deaths bring the downfall of all order on the island. Through the deaths of Simon and Piggy, Golding implies how the inherent evil of human nature drowns out the good in a society like it did for the anti intellectual Khmer Rouge and the murder of Emil Grunzweig.... In contrast to knowledge, wisdom is generally considered to be morally good. What makes this correct? Albert Einstein once said, Wisdom is not a product of schooling but of the lifelong attempt to acquire it. A process such as gaining wisdom is lengthy and arduous, which teaches the pursuer patience and humility. Seldom have we found a person who is unchanged by such a trial. When one finally uncovers insight that they believe to be universally applicable, wisdom or truth, it often inspires those to make the best of the life they have and use this newly found wisdom to grow and to build themselves in a way they deem acceptable for themselves. In Douglas Adam s novel The Hitchhiker s Guide to the Galaxy, wisdom is subtly spoken of as a topic of discussion. For example, there is an argument on the subject of whether or not God exists based on His and man s logic. It states: Now it is such a bizarrely improbable coincidence that anything so mindbogglingly useful could have evolved purely by chance that some thinkers have chosen to see it as a final and clinching proof of the non existence of God. The argument goes something like this: I refuse to prove that I exist, says God, for proof denies faith, and without faith I am nothing. But, says Man, the Babel fish is a dead giveaway isn t it? Juvenile Delinquency And The Juvenile Justice System Abstract This paper explores eleven published articles that report on results from research conducted on the factors that contribute to juvenile delinquency and the solutions to correct or prevent this delinquency. In the history of the construction and implementing federal laws, it has been imperative to take actions and make procedures in response to the increasing number of minors who violate the laws. The formation of a juvenile justice system that is made up of proper course and development was created. It is important to point out the reasons why these juveniles do offensive and criminal acts in order to form systematic and efficient solutions. There are numerous variations of Spanish, of course, and a native speaker is expected to understand all those variations, but for a new learner it can be confusing, since each Spanish speaker country has their own accent, dialects, how to people address each other, and the way they conjugate the verbs. The purpose of this essay is contrast and compare the differences between European Spanish and Latin America Spanish when it comes about pronunciation, vocabulary, phonological differences and so on. The most notable difference is Ustedes vs Nosotros. European Spanish has two plural forms for the English you when address two or more people, which is Vosotros and Ustedes. In Spain, both are used. Vosotros is the option for informal conversations, while ustedes is used in formal context. In contrast, in Latin America you will always use ustedes to refer to a group. Monty Python and the Holy Grail differs from Le Morte d Arthur and Sir Gawain and the Green Knight because the film satirizes chivalry and courtly love while the other works are upholding it as orthodox. Courtly love from the Middle Ages consisted of knights chasing a fair maiden while always being respectful and courteous to her. This chivalrous act is derided in Monty Python and the Holy Grail when King Arthur confronts the Black Knight blocking the path to the bridge. King Arthur insists on crossing the bridge instead of going around, forcing a confrontation between the Arthur and the Black Knight. Arthur shows no mercy in the battle and cuts the Black Knight s limbs off, one by one. This demonstrates satire because as the Black Knights limbs are being cut off, King Arthur continues to slice at him, displaying an exaggeration of showing no mercy. The Black Knight persists against Arthur, also mocking how one must never recoil before the enemy, even if one s limbs are removed. In Le Morte d Arthur, King Arthur is merciless against Modred, his bastard son whom attempts to take over King Arthur s kingdom, and pierces Modred with a spear. This instance is an example of chivalry because King Arthur does not hesitate to kill his own son nor does he display clemency. Modred as a response does not recoil, which is also is in the code of conduct of chivalry. When a knight faces the enemy, he should never flinch or shy away because of fear. This aspect of chivalry is parodied in Monty Python and the Holy Grail when King Arthur and his knights brawled with the Killer Rabbit of Caerbannog. The Killer Rabbit is an unearthly creature because it leaps incredible lengths and wrenches a knight s head off with one bite. This scene is executed to make the confrontation appear ridiculous to the audience by the otherworldly rabbit decapitating one of King Arthur s praised knights, proving them to be inept in battle. • 29. Christianity in William Blake s Works Christianity in Blake Theology is actually one of the many topics that frequently appears in a variety of work of English poet William Blake. A brief overview of some of the author s more noted works such as The Marriage of Heaven and Hell , The Book of Thel , and Songs of Innocence and Experience readily attest to this fact. In Songs of Innocence and Experience, however, a number of the author s poems seem to integrate a decidedly Christian worldview within their text and the cosmology presented to readers through these works. This proclivity of Blake s is particularly salient in The Chimney Sweeper and The Lamb . In fact, one can argue that most of the fundamental beliefs that Christianity is based upon are found within these poems, which serve as excellent examples of the author s tendency to write poems that adhere to a decidedly Christian viewpoint. Thematically, each of the aforementioned poems details some of the central precepts in Christianity. This point is made abundantly clear when one analyzes The Chimney Sweeper , which connotes situations that are analogous to the redeeming grace of Jesus whose presence and divinity the religion of Christianity is based upon for sinners: which is implied by the dirt and soot that characterizes the young chimney sweepers in this poem. Within this poetic work Blake makes allusions to the sacrament of baptism, in which the redeemed chimney sweepers are primarily able to earn God s grace after they wash in a river ... It is the unique and inherent features of being human, uninfluenced by factors such as race, class, gender or time. This idea has been examined through literature for hundreds of years by the likes of Shakespeare, who through his philosophical depth has given profound insights into human nature. As Noam Chomsky expressed it is quite possible overwhelmingly probable, one might guess that we will always learn more about human life and personality from novels than from scientific psychology. The film is a poignant portrayal of a washed up wrestler, Randy, in the twilight of his career. Through Randy, Aronofsky is able to explore intrinsic characteristics that define the human condition such as humans need for relationships and connections, search for recognition, and awareness of the inevitability of death. Cormac McCarthy s The Road is an exemplary novel which discusses the human condition and where these ideas are also seen. Texts that explore what it means to be human are most compelling as they impart knowledge about aspects of human nature that reside in us all, and rous strong feelings of interest among the reader or audience. Several companies including Verizon, Walt Disney and Viacom provide their customers with content they are interested in without the need of paying for channels they are not willing to watch. • 36. Analysis Of The Story Eveline By James Joyce Eveline The story begins with a silver lining in a memory that deepens into a pit of depression The narrator helps to describe her memories as Eveline, staring blankly out a window, wallows in her conflicting feelings of adoration and isolation. Today in many places, what takes place in Dublin during 1914 as common place family dynamics, can be recognized as a cyclical pattern of abuse between a controlling and manipulative father, his demure and defenseless wife, and their helpless and hopeful children. In the story Eveline written by James Joyce the main character is suffering from symptoms of vicarious trauma and abuse, and although she recognizes, and fantasizes about the option and possibility of a better life, ultimately she finds herself a victim of circumstance, frozen in time, unable to make a decision, she is forced to watch her opportunity fade from her grasp. Eveline exhibits the qualities of a young woman who has spent her life exposed to traumatic, systematic abuse. As she looks out over the field of her childhood, reaching into the past to pull forward the memories of friends and happiness, a foul taste creeps in to her mind of Her father [who] used often to hunt them in out of the field with his blackthorn stick; (Joyce) and the author gives the first indicator that Eveline s life has been little more than tragic. An abusive parent is bad enough, but the real despair she must feel is driven home when Eveline s thoughts reveal the unthinkable: her ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

He was carrying a suitcase with clothing in order to stay and another just like it with almost two thousand letters that she has written him they were arranged by date in bundles tied with colored ribbons, and they were all unopened. No person writes someone two thousand letters with reply let alone without one. This is ridiculous but we accept it as truth because of Marquez s mastery of magical realism. Chronicle of a Death Foretold has many humorous parts mostly because they are ludicrous. These parts are magical realism because the suspend belief through humor. They were sitting down to breakfast when they saw Santiago Nasar enter, soaked in blood and carrying the roots of his entrails in his hands. Poncho Lanoa told me: What I ll never forget was that terrible smell of shit. But Argenida Lanoa, the oldest daughter said that Saintiago Nasar walked with his usual good bearing, measuring his steps well, and that his Saracen face with ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 51. Cultural Experience Reflection Paper Cultural Experience Reflection: Spain, Healing Dirt, and Amores Perros When learning a new language, educating, experiencing, and learning about the culture behind the language is paramount. It is not simple enough to learn the vocabulary and grammar of Spanish. As a Spanish 1010 student, my learning experience has been enriched through participating in cultural events. Furthermore, I gained a deeper understanding and appreciation for the language and native speakers. Over the last semester, I participated in the following three cultural experiences: traveling to Spain, attending the Healing Dirt event, and watching the movie Amores Perros. Fortunately for me, these three events covered a variety of issue areas (e.g., religious traditions, language dynamics, and machismo); additionally, each event was based in different Spanish speaking countries. Over the past summer, I traveled to Spain and was able experienced the culture and traditions of the Hispanic people for two weeks. I was struck by how language and cultural heritage played a major role in shaping the experiences of Hispanic people. The role of language plays a huge role in shaping the experiences and lives of the people living in Barcelona. In the city of Barcelona, Catalan and Spanish are the languages spoken. Furthermore, the government only provides free education to learn Catalan, not Spanish. This preservation of the Catalonian culture represents the ongoing effort of the Catalonians to gain independence from Spain. Through preserving the native Catalonian language through law and education, these Hispanic people show how they adamantly defend their heritage and place high value on preserving Catalonian culture. I recognized the respect the other Barcelonans had for the Catalonian people. Though their cultures have many fundamental differences, the non Catalonians living in Barcelona learn how to speak Catalan in order to communicate, but also to validate the integrity of their cross culture interactions. This enables an open discussion politically and socially on the issues both cultures bring to the discussion. After traveling through Spain, I was inspired by the people to learn how to speak ... • 52. Hunger Games Essay When children are forced to grow up fast at a young age due to traumatic events, it shapes them into fighters, when faced with life and death a person would do almost anything to assure survival. This is greatly demonstrated in the book The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins when the main character Katniss Everdeen s world is shifted upside down when her father dies and when she volunteers as tribute for the Hunger Games. After her father s death the weight of the world was on Katniss s shoulders, as she had to learn how to provide for, and keep her family alive. Her family consisted of her mother, who suffered severe depression after the death of her husband, and her younger sister Prim who meant the world to her. She inherited hunting... She could not stand the thought of her sister being thrown into such an awful situation and she did the only thing she could to save her life. Fighting for others when they were too weak to fight for themselves was another characteristic that Katniss demonstrated throughout the novel. This was displayed in many cases. One way in which this was portrayed was when Katniss immediately without giving a thought to the matter decided to enroll herself in the hunger games in order to ensure Prim s safety as well as to save her the terror of the despicable games. With one sweep of my arm, I push her behind me. I volunteer! I gasped. I volunteer as tribute! (Collins 22). This showed how Katniss stood up for her sister and fought for her when no one else would, she saved Prim s life and she risked it all for her. Katniss also took care of and risked much for Peeta when he was injured. As soon as it was announced that two people could win the hunger games if they were from the same district Katniss immediately made it her priority to find Peeta. She wanted to do everything in her power to assure his survival. When Katniss did find Peeta he was badly injured and she spent much time and effort in making him better. At one point she even risked her own life to obtain medicine that would ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 53. Essay On Blood Lead Exposure Blood lead and zinc levels were examined among workers having occupational exposure to these metals. The effect of the lead exposure was evident due to number of manifestation reported in this study and the elevation in the levels of lead among workers due to exposure at workplace environment. The group of workers (W4 and W5) exceed the biological exposure index (BEI) of American Conference of Governmental Industrial Hygienist (ACGIH) which is set as 30Вµg/dL (ACGIH, 2011). Clearly these two groups are showing the effect of their extended workplace exposure. Earlier the workers were examined for general health status along with healthy controls and significant decline in their body mass index (BMI) were observed, including the spectrum of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Here two assumptions may take birth from this study either zinc has genomic stability properties directly or it does so by reducing the absorption of lead in the body which in turn may prevent DNA damage. Several mechanisms involved in genotoxic response for example destabilization of chromatin may indirectly involve DNA damage (Johansson and Pellicciari, 1988) and impair repairing process (Hartwig et al. 1990). It is believed that not a single factor could be responsible for genotoxicity but many factors including dietary could markedly influence the hostility of genotoxic agents (Hayatsu et al. 1988; Fenech and Rinaldy, 1994). Diets rich in antioxidant can negatively reduce the risk of several type of human cancer (Byers and Perry 1992). In addition, workers exposed to chemicals show a significant decrease in chromosome aberration frequency when given multivitamin in dietary supplements (Lazutka 1996; Emerit et al. 1997). Earlier studies regarding clastogenic effects of lead are contradictory. Clastogenic effects of lead were shown in the form of chromosome gaps and breaks by 1% lead acetate in culture mouse leucocytes (Muro and Goyer 1969). Lead acetate was also shown to increase the frequency of chromosome aberration on human lymphocytes treated in vitro (Beek and Obe 1974; Obe et al. 1975). However other ...
