Essay on Perspectives of Pyschology
Part 1 Extended Response Psychoanalytic is the perspective that childhood sexuality and
unconscious motivations influence personality. It is accountable for the development of an
introverted or extroverted type of personality because if a person is unconsciously aware of their
actions then it s possible they do not have a lot of control over certain behaviors such as greed or
pride. Also when someone becomes fixated on any of the psychosexual stages then it can alter
behaviors and will affect personality as the child develops. So for example if a person has a very
weak ego and a more dominant superego or more dominant id then it can have a huge affect on
their personality. If the person is a do gooder then their superego will emit... Show more content on

It is accountable for the development of an introverted or extroverted type of personality
because behavior displayed in children is often expressed similarly when they get older. So for
example if a child is often misbehaving and always gets into trouble then it s possible they will
begin to think everything they do is wrong. As the child grows older he then becomes more shy
and unsociable creating an introverted type of personality. On the other hand, if a child is often
misbehaving and the other children laugh then its likely they will act out more to amuse those
other children. As the characteristics of this child develop then its probable they will have a
more extroverted type of personality. Heredity is also a factor in the trait perspective. If a
family has a history of calm, reliable, and quiet individuals then their offspring will have the
same characteristics. Social cognitive is the perspective that behaviors are learned by observing
and modeling others and emphasizes the importance of mental processes. It is accountable for
the development of an introverted or extroverted type of personality because what children learn
when they are younger affect them as they grow older. For example if a child looks up to
someone who is very talkative and carefree then its likely they will want to model the same
behaviors. Such as, talking to the new kid at school and being very laidback. As they grow older
these behaviors will then

Compare And Contrast Queen Elizabeth I And King Elizabeth I
Cedric Lancaster Professor Weaver Organizational Leadership Queen Elizabeth I vs. King
Henry V: Comparison and Contrast of Two Leaders Throughout history select individuals have
been documented as a result of their ability to lead, or lack there of. The documentation over the
years has been helpful to historians, scholars, and the general population when trying to better
understand the characteristics of a leader. Two of the most memorable leaders in world history
are Queen Elizabeth I and King Henry V who both shared the duty of ruler over England at some
point in their life. Both Queen Elizabeth I and King Henry V are held in high regard as a result
of their accomplishments and their over all success as a leader. This essay will discuss both
Queen Elizabeth I and King Henry V in regards to their leadership, how they displayed
leadership and the outcomes of their individual leadership processes. In order to gain a sufficient
understanding of a leader, or person in general, it is important that you understand the
background from which the person originated. A person s family life and experiences as a young
child are the building blocks for the foundation in which that person refers to when making
decisions. Queen Elizabeth I was born to the Tudor family on September 7, 1533 in Greenwhich
to King Henry VIII and Anne Boelyn. Elizabeth was welcomed in to the world by her parents and
older sister Mary who was a product of King Henry VIII s first marriage to Catherine. King

Analysis of The Irish Way by James R. Barrett
Analysis
The book, The Irish Way by James R. Barrett is a masterpiece written to describe the life of Irish
immigrants who went to start new lives in America after conditions at home became un
accommodative. Widespread insecurity, callous English colonizers and the ghost of great famine
still lingering on and on in their lives, made this ethnic group be convinced that home was longer a
home anymore. They descended in United States of America in large numbers. James R. Barrett in
his book notes that these people were the first group of immigrants to settle in America. According
to him, there were a number of several ethnic groups that have arrived in America. It was, however,
the mass exodus of Irish people during and after the great ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Situation was to change later as they etched themselves deeper into the American society. The more
days went by, the more they became Americans through and through. Assimilation was never by
design, choice or any predetermined action. It was shaped through day to day conflicts and through
interaction with other ethnic groups. Having a good advantage in English as their first language,
they were able to participate in various activities that later shaped their destiny. Their children were
able to attend schools. A number of various professionals were found in various economic sectors of
the country. There were numerous policemen and women, preachers and teachers a sign that clearly
indicated that they were coming of age and that they were slowly overcoming the challenges that
had bent them downwards. Soon they started making it into elective post. This was partly because
of their improved economic status and partly due to their personality. Barrett noted that these
people were activist and had embarked on various activities that benefited the community.
Another social conflict underlined in this book was the conflict between the Irish American citizen
and the citizens of Indian origin. Typically, Irish people looked down upon the Indian citizens. The
writer notes that the Irish people were slowly forgetting their own fate of how they too were the
subject of discrimination and callous victimization in the

How Did Celia Barton Influence The American Red Cross
The surest test of discipline is it s absence. Clara Barton said this meaning that you only know
your discipline when you aren t using it. You only know your manners when you see how
different it is when you don t use them or see someone not using them, that is what Clara meant
when she said this. Clara came in contact with many people when she was a nurse so she must
have met people who weren t as disciplined as her, she saw her discipline when she saw how little
others were. Clara Bartonimpacted society by organizing supply depots for soldiers, serving as a

Julius Caesar Ethos Pathos Logos
Ethos, pathos and logos influence every part of our lives from the time we wake up to the
moment we fall asleep. These three advertising tactics are also the pillars of political speeches
and other rhetorical media. In the play The Tragedy of Julius Caesar by William Shakespeare,
ethos, pathos and logos are used to persuade many of the characters views on the conspirators plot
and Caesar s subsequent death. My independent speech, Tear Down this Wall, was given by
Ronald Reagan on June 12, 1987 in Berlin, Germany. This speech was given during the Cold War,
which separated the Democratic from Communist countries. Reagan s objective was to convince
Mr. Gorbachev, the leader of Communist Soviet Union to tear down the wall separating East and
West Berlin. Both of these texts use ethos, pathosand logos to convince their audience that their

This is one of the most notable uses of rhetoric in Tear Down This Wall. Reagan states,t [that he]
finds in Berlin a message of hope, even in the shadow of this wall, a message of triumph . This
quote is a powerful example of pathos because it validated the dreams of so many people, the
hope for freedom. The wall itself not only was a military boundary, but it also separated families
and friends. Reagan s use of pathos was so powerful in this speech because of the hate and
oppression the wall symbolized for so many years. TRANSITION In Marc Antony s funeral
speech he calls Caesar s stab wounds the unkindest cut of them all. In this line he creates an
emotional connection with the crowd. Through that connection he is able to impart a feeling of
distrust towards Brutus, furthering the crowds agreement with his argument. Reagan uses a similar
tactic in his speech, several times he addresses specific groups of people in German. By speaking
to the people in their native language Reagan wanted to show that he respects their culture and is
willing to spend time

Diversity in Three Voices
Diversity in Three Voices Scientist When working with individuals from different cultures,
individuals informally learn the differences that exist between them and their respective cultures
(DeCenzo Silhanek, 2001, p. 29). Often the word diversity is confused with political correctness
or human equality but it is the understanding of differences between people and how they interact.
Diversity is defined as the quality of being different but composed of distinct elements or qualities
(Parvis, 2005, p. 15). Throughout history the United States has been known as the melting pot, but
this concept was a perception not a reality because the melting pot ended up benefiting only white,
prominent settlers. Looking at diversity is observing differences and there are a lot of them. For
example, male versus female, religion versus no religion, homosexual versus heterosexual, foreign
or domestic, republican versus democrat, Caucasian versus African American, Mexican versus
Latino, Cherokee Indian versus Choctaw Indian, poor versus rich; and differences could
encompass several more pages. We can deny that differences exist or we can consent to differences
while discovering from others the assets of dissimilarity. People must learn, therefore, to recognize
differences in others their backgrounds, customs, and work schedules and appreciate, even
celebrate, those differences (DeCenzo Silhanek, 2001, p. 29). Artist When it is blatantly obvious

Sequence Pattern
In sequence pattern I got a score of 27 which means I use that pattern first. In precision pattern I
got a score of 29 which means I also use that pattern first. My score for the technical reasoning
pattern was 8 which means I usually avoid it. In confluence pattern I got a score of 22 which
means I use it as needed. With all my scores combined it makes me a dynamic learner. An
example of when I used the Sequence Pattern was when I was in high school and I was in a
CNA class doing job shadowing for the first time. I asked what exactly I was expected to do;
what my job duties were as a shadowing student . I was nervous, of course, so I asked my
teacher, whom was a long time nurse, what I was supposed to be doing exactly. She explained to
me and the other students in detail that we were to help the elderly in and out of bed, to and
from the restroom, to get them dressed and to get them to and from the cafeteria for lunch. That
sounded simple enough so we all got started helping the residents and some of the CNA s who
worked there had a completely different way of doing things, not the exact way as shown by our
teacher. I don t like when people do things differently then how I have been shown and then expect
me to do it that way as well. I had to just adjust to it and do it... Show more content on

Essay on Jim Jones as a Prophet
Jim Jones as a Prophet
November 18, 1978 it all ended. Jim Jones and his
followers committed mass suicide in Guyana, South
America. The history of Jim Jones and the Peoples Temple
is still studied a great deal today. Why did all those
people follow Jones? Were they forced, were they brain
washed, or was Jones just that charismatic. In
this paper we will probe deep into Jonestown and answer
some of these questions. We will be using Max Webber s
article The Prophet find out if Jones was a prophet, if
so what kind of prophet was he. We will also compare and

California Jones appeared to be out primarily for his own
self interest not the church. Because of this Jones
shifts from an ethical prophet to an exemplary prophet.
After the subversive tactics of the Peoples Temple,
they started to feel the pressure from the society around
them. So again Jones moved the Church and anyone able to
the perfect utopian society, Guyana South America. Here
they named their society Jonestown. The Church made
everything they needed and were essentially isolated from
the rest of the world. In Guyana, Jim was becoming less
and less important every day. Everyone built the society
so everyone had somewhat of stock invested, making Jim
less important. When Jim saw his importance fading, he
faked numerous injuries to gain attention. Jim claimed to
have cancer although an autopsy showed no cancer was
present in his body. Even though Jones forbid the use of
drugs, he became dependent on barbiturates and
painkillers. His excuse was that he needed them for the
pain of his non existent injuries. Then as quickly as it
grew it ended. The People Temple killed a congressman
coming to observe their life style. Knowing the
repercussions of this Jones organized a revolutionary
suicide that proved to everyone that they would not

Types And Methods Of Tests That Are Being Used During...
Biodata Test There are many forms and methods of tests that are being used during selection
process. Biodata test is a type of exam that is used in selection process which uses background
experience and behaviors to predict applicant s performance on certain jobs. The biodata test I
took was designed to predict performance on a position in salesand customer services. The test
predicts dependability, positive customer service attitudes, retention, management potential, and
performance of an applicant. Based on score an applicant receive, the test gives recommendation
to hiring management whether an applicant is good fit for the position or not. Since I took the
test after our discussion during class, I probably had better glimpse of what it would like than
other people who took before the class. However, I was not sure what to look for in terms of
questions and answers. I have heard about various testing methods and types that companies use
for selection, and I imagined one more similar to academic test that measures intelligence. Yet, this
test was different and some questions looked very inappropriate or illegal in some sense. The test
begun with asking basic information about me such as name and address. I was not sure why they
need address for the selection, but I had not had much of issue with it. However, a questionasking
birth day was not comfortable to answer. I am relatively older than regular college graduates, and I

Framing In The Pardoner s Tale
Framing plays a very important role in Chaucer s The Pardoner s Tale as it lets the reader delve
into the world that the author has created to analyze the characters within. The character of the
Pardoner is very interesting and by using frames we can add depth to the story that he tells.
There are five frames in the tale: the general prologue or the pilgrim s point of view, Pardoner s
prologue, introduction of the tale, the actual tale itself and lastly the old man s tale. The various
frames present in The Pardoner s Tale each help explain the narratives contained inside. The main
role of framing is to help the reader grasp the text in greater detail and uncover what may not be
obvious at first sight. Framing also helps strengthen the understanding behind the actions of the
characters in The Pardoner s Tale. In Chaucer s tale framing... Show more content on

When reading the prologue and the tale one feels as if there are two conflicting sides to the
pardoner; one where he preaches moralistic values and the other where he is defying those same
values with his greedy requests. Framing helps by giving the reader direction and thus being
able to distinguish in a sense which of the Pardoner s is speaking. In his prologue the pardoner
tells the crowd that he is a man who preaches against the sin of gluttony. He exclaims when I
preach in churches, I strive for a resounding voice, and I ring it out as round as a bell, for I know
by heart all that I say. My theme is and always was one and the same: Radix malorum est
cupiditas. (Chaucer 334) The exact meaning of the Latin phrase is greed is the root of all evils .
However, the pardoner later calls what he does trickery and that it has won him hundreds of
marks . He also tells the people that all his stories are false. (Chaucer 399) But even after he has
already explained how he does his business to the crowd the pardoner then tries to trick them into

The Bombing Of The Twin Towers
The bombing of the Twin Towers turned America s focused toward the Middle East. The War on
Terrorism began in earnest. This war has brought about more than one conflict. As a nation, the
United States is unique. The government is not run by any particular regime or religion, there is
freedom. Yet, this is our unique brand of freedom. The Middle Eastis full of peoples with their own
way of life that do not necessarily agree with the way we see freedom. Lila Abu Lughod discusses
one of the many difference between the United Statesand the Middle East, the use of head
coverings and the burqa, in her article Do Muslim Women Really Need Saving? She examines
the cultural significance and different types of veiling. Culture permeates every part of life. As
Americans, maybe this is harder to see. Yet, everything from the way we talk to what we choose
to wear is the result of culture. This makes it vital to understand that many things have a cultural
significance. Abu Lughod expresses her dismay over the obsession with the plight of Muslim
women being focused on the burqa (209). Many people have adopted the burqa as the symbol of
the oppression of Muslim women. Yet, the burqa is simply a form of covering originally specific
to the Pashtun people. Each form of covering is part of the Islamic religion. Each holds
significance for the community that wears it. The purpose of women wearing a veilof any kind is to
assure their protection in the public sphere from the harassment of

that marriage system and lack of free will is one of the reasons China was overlooked in the

one reason Miss Zhao ended her own life. Women in China have to show obedience to their

In general females are held to different sexual standards than men. When females hook up or

This age range is where trial and error relationship lessons are learned. I chose the topic of

The use of blank grey space focuses the audience s eyes on the women, and language in the
middle of the page. The designers chose to only show the woman s faces below their noses,
which enables the audience to scan the photo passively, without making direct eye contact with
the characters. This was likely decided to make the viewer feel at ease in such a personal frame.
The use of coding is scarce, the women are completely bare; no clothes, jewelry, nail polish, even
their hair is fully tied up. This design decision helps to remove any indexes except the global
symbol of breast cancer, and colour pink. Connecting to the arts and crafts movement, the design is
simplistic; enough detail to intrigue but not so much that the mind is confused, which further
compounds the symbol of breast cancer to the audience. These women are meant to represent any

Shutter Island Film Analysis
The following is written to examine a connection made between the varying texts using
manipulation and how it impacts the audience s perception of reality. The texts I will include which
are evident of manipulation are Shutter Island a visual thriller directed by Martin Scorsese,
Inception a visual action, adventure conducted by Christopher Nolan, Twelfth Night written by
William Shakespeare, and Tell Tale Heart produced by Edgar Allan Poe
. I decided to choose texts
that are recognized for their brilliance. Both visual and written texts are contrasted in relation to
time, the visual texts are of modern era whereas the written texts are of a previous generation.

Towards the final scenes of the film, Daniels becomes increasingly aware of the impact he has
made on his society, hence the title Shutter Island//Shot her Island . Daniels realizes his guilt
through the way the characters have helped him to discover who he really is, Daniels is able to
sum it up to the audience through the dialogue Which would be worse: To live as a monster, or
to die as a good man? The audience is able to understand that Daniels has accepted his reality,
making him the good man . A common theme today is not accepting reality or being in denial,
this is due to the way denying the reality of something enables the body to cope (bodies defence
mechanism1). The character of Daniels helps to influence today s society by showing us that
accepting the reality we create is better than to regret or deny it. Thus, changing the way, we
perceive reality.
In the film Inception , Nolan influences the audience to connect to the character of Dominic Cobb.
Like Shutter Island the character (Cobb) in this film is also revolved around. Nolan uses a theme
evident in today s society, the perception of reality to develop and connect the portrayal of Cobb
and connect the audience. In terms of Cobb, this theme can be translated to his internal conflict of
dreams versus reality. Nolan inflects an emotional connection to Cobb and the audience through this
internal conflict. A

Disaster termed as a serious disruption of the functioning of society, causing widespread human,
material or environmental losses which exceed the ability of the affected society to cope using its
own resources.
Disasters are not totally discrete events. Their possibility of occurrence, time, place and severity of
the strike can be reasonably and in some cases accurately predicted by technological and scientific
advances. It has been established there is a definite pattern in their occurrences and hence we can to
some extent reduce the impact of damage though we cannot reduce the extent of damage itself
Generally, disaster has the following effects in the concerned areas,
1. It completely disrupts the normal day to day life
2. It negatively influences the emergency systems
3. Normal needs and processes like food, shelter, health, etc. are affected and deteriorate depending
on the intensity and severity of the disaster.
The development of disaster recovery plans,( for minimizing the risk of disasters and for handling
them when they do occur,) and the implementation of such plans. Disaster management usually
refers to the management of natural catastrophes such as fire, flooding, or earthquakes. Related
techniques include crisis management, contingency management, and risk management.
Disaster/emergency management is the discipline of dealing with and avoiding risks. It involves
preparing for a disaster before it happens, disaster response (e.g.

The Matrix Plato
The Matrix (1999) presents to viewers a computer hacker known as Neo. By day, Neo (his alter
ego is Mr. Anderson) is a computer programmer, and at night he sells hacked software. Morpheus, a
character who attempts to awaken humans from a dreamlike trance known as the Matrix, solicits
the assistance of Neo.
Morpheus offers Neo the chance to see the truth about the world in which he lives. Neo, and other
humans as well, are housed as biochemical food for the artificial intelligence that controls the
planet. Neo wages a war in a secret underground, where he fights with Morpheus against the agents
who protect the parasitic machines who live off the heat and electrochemical energy humans
produce with their bodies.

While it is unlikely that humans will allow artificial intelligence to develop a parasitic
relationship with them, The Matrix gives the viewer pause to wonder what else in the world may
not be real as perceived. Everything we perceive has the potential to be an illusion. It is only
knowledge that will give us the power to be free.
Likewise, people who eschew experience and education are no better off than the prisoners chained
to the stone. The uneducated have limited knowledge and less power. It is not until, like Neo, they
break the chains confining them and are willing to explore new worlds, that they may understand
reality.
From The Matrix we learn that it is realistic to be skeptical of the world; government is deceitful.
Elected officials use their knowledge to make decisions on behalf of ignorant people. Leaders find
it incumbent on themselves to make all decisions related to the health, safety and well being of
people whom they rule. Elected officials in contemporary politics view this decision making as a
necessity, thinking that because they are in control and have power, they are the ones who know

Gamora, yet yearns to know who his father is. Even Yondu (Michael Rooker), the Ravager who

from his mentor, and his crew begins to accuse him of growing soft.
The Catalyst sets the A Story in motion, a MacGuffin that allows us to get to the heart of the real

Meanwhile, Peter has passed from his thesis world of seeking his father and has entered his

than a friend betting twenty dollars over the San Francisco Giants at a tailgate party. The
Interstate Wire Act was passed in 1961 and it has been very powerful from then on. However,
this has restricted Americans from having a good time with family and friends betting online as

people who will run an online operation of this or perhaps who call to places that use a different

Next, The Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act (UIGEA) is another law passed by
lawmakers to shut down completely of organized illegal activities that are monitored by a third

Cave Paintings Essay
Creating art is one of the single defining factors that set humans apart from animal species.
Through art, humans are able to express their innermost ideas and feelings, without having the
difficulty of trying to find the correct words to accurately describe their thought processes. Works
of art can help us to understand the people who have come before us. This is evidenced by the
knowledge humans have discovered of prehistoric men and their symbolic cave paintings. The
expression, style, and meaning vary and archaeologists put in much effort to uncover these works.
The first evidence of cave art appeared in Western Europe (Berenguer 67). Early cave paintings

It is often found to be extremely animalistic. The animals most commonly depicted are horses,
deer, reindeer, bison, ipex, aurochs, woolly rhinoceroses, and mammoths. Sometimes lions and
bears are also created, but rarely fish or birds. Humans were also commonly represented
(Berenguer 73). Prehistoric men also created abstract designs that have proven hard to identify.
They are referred to as signs and a special nomenclature has been developed to better understand
their meaning. Tectiforms are generally quadrangular shapes, with crossing vertical lines inside
forming a trellis or mesh design. Tectiforms often appear near naturalistic figures of animals.
Scutiforms have been thought to represent the female vulva. They are formed by red patches,
often in the form of a comma or a key. Other types of signs are penniforms, ramiforms, and
claviforms. The exact meanings of most of these signs remain unknown (Berenguer 82). The
French scholar Leroi Gourhan formed a theory regarding the animalistic and abstract art
representations. He believed all depictions revolved around the law of sex, noting that the
philosophy of the prehistoric men concentrated all explanations on sex and sexual relations. Cave
art depictions of animals are divided into male and female. The male animals are horses, she goats,
and deer. Bison, bovidae, and mammoths are female. The signs are also divided into gender
categories. Triangles, rectangles, ramiforms, tectiforms, and scutiforms are

Industrialization In USAd Japan
When a nation as a whole undergoes industrialization, it enters into the unknown and with this
unknown comes a very steep price and this price is to incredibly high that not one person in a new
industrial industry could ever meet by themselves. That is why in countries like the United States
and Japan we see the government play a significant role in the beginning of the industrial age. In
both Japan and the United States the governments helped to begin the industrial age in their nations
by providing government contracts as seen in America with the arms industryof the mid 19th

Sadly, the Japanese government decided to industrialize rapidly and did not foresee any of the
problems that would ensue. With the government owning and operating multiple industries, the
government was quickly spending too much money on maintaining these industries. The
responsibility of maintaining these industries proved to be too strenuous upon the economy of the
Japanese government, as Tessa Morris Suzuki points out in The Technological Transformation of
Japan By the early 1880s the costs of industrial investment were imposing immense strains on the
budget and fueling the fires of spiraling inflation. Thus the Japanese government was forced to sell
their industries to private enterprises for a fraction of what they cost just to break somewhat even.
Once the private enterprises gained control of these industries, the future of these industries began
to turnaround because of the simple fact that the government had trained the workforce on how to
use and operate the machinery and had educated the working population in industries. By having
an educated workforce at their disposal, the private enterprises were set up for success and soon
would see large amounts of profits being made. What made the private enterprises successful was
the fact that the Japanese private

The Control of Nature Essay
In the book, The Control of Nature by John McPhee, one can see humans in a multitude of locations
attempting to control the various aspects of their natural environment. Furthermore, it is clear that
the three enduring understandings of Earth Science are present throughout the book as an ongoing
theme. The first, the idea that energy, from the Sun and from Earth s interior, drives all of Earth
s cycles and processes, can be interpreted in many different ways. However, in the different
sections of the book, one sees that the Sun can cause weather patterns and can lead to different
outcomes. Additionally, the energy, or power, resulting from the intense heat and pressure from
the Earth s interior, can cause volcanic eruptions. As for the idea that matter moves through
Earth s spheres in cyclical processes, over varying periods of time, and at different scales, one
can see that water, land, plant matter, and even molten rock come and go in a definite period,
whether it is thirty years, or even centuries. In regards to the third idea, that Earth s surfaces and
processes are altered by human engineering, one can see a plethora of examples in the book. The
energy from the Sun and from Earth s interior and the events that are caused from that energy can
cause humans to alter the surfaces and processes of Earth by building everything from levees to
basins and can even cause humans to make an attempt at cooling flowing

Censorship Definition Essay
A multitude of countries and organizations use censorship for various reasons. However
something they all have in common is the one providing the censored material does not want the
reader or viewer to know something, whether that be the true state of a country or the real history
of a matter. Censorship is a constant tug a war between two sides for the truth over a subject. This
form of restriction can be observed from the early 1900 s to today s modern times, and can also be
seen worldwide in countries that have little to nothing in common. A vast amount of media is not

For example in 1930 Nazi Germany, Nazis burned Jewish writers works, Jewish artwork, and
pretty much anything else derived from the Jewish culture. A similar event can be seen in Mosul,
recently. The terrorist group ISIS also known as ISIL, has been engaging in book rades and so far
have damaged ВЁthree [major] libraries: a Sunni Muslim library, the library of the 265 year old
Latin Church and Monastery of the Dominican Fathers, and the Mosul Museum LibraryВЁ
(University of Mosul history professor). In a Newsela interview with Hakim al Zamili, An Iraqi
lawmaker, there is a potential reason suggested for these violent outbursts these terrorist groups are
performing. According to al Zamili, Islamic State group considers culture, civilization and science
as their fierce enemies. When this is taken into consideration it is obvious why the terrorist group
has been acting out and damaging libraries, due to their housing of books that contain such
subjects. Overall governments, organizations, and those in power often times use censorship in
order to shelter or hide things from people. For example, when a parent is just doing what is best
for their kid and doesn t just let them do whatever they want. There is always a reason, often times
thought to be protection. However it could potentially be more, perhaps manipulation? Whatever
may be the reason censorship will remain a vastly used form of restriction that some may just need

My Infatuation Of The Rocky Horror Picture Show
At just the age of eight, my mother took my younger sister along with me to a midnight showing
of the Rocky Horror Picture Show, and it was love at first screening. There was so much
excitement and enthusiasm bursting with energy in the audience that it was mesmerizing. That
moment was re experienced repeatedly with the return to countless future showings. Moreover,
when I attained the age that I could attend without a chaperone, I would bring friends and

daughter with the film when I felt it was time, as did my sister with her children. Consequently,
the tradition will continue for generations to come within our family. Rocky Horror Picture

The Englewood Board Of Education Meeting
The Englewood Board of Education meeting took place at the Grieco Elementary School in
Englewood, NJ. On March 17, 2016 and began promptly at 6:30 p.m. in the Cafeteria. The board
is made up of nine board members all sitting at a long table with the President of the board, Mr.
Devry Pazant who sat at the center of the table beside the newly appointed Superintendent, Mr.
Robert Kravitz.
I think it is important to point out a little background information on the Englewood School Board.
I have attended several of the school board meetings over the past three years and have witnessed a
lot of bitterness and dissatisfaction among the board members and attendees. It stems from a history
of inequities in the school system and a separation of high school and an Academy program that
appears to receive a large operating budget and administrative support on the same campus. With
that said there are members on the board who have children in the Academy program who have a
vested interest in the success of the program over what is best for all the students who attend the
high school or the program.
The Board President called the meeting to order, and the board secretary did the roll call. The
agenda was comprised of various reports and the secretary would go though each agenda item,
beginning with the board secretary s report, finance, personnel, listing of approvals for salaries that
included names of staff/faculty, retirements, leave of absences, bills, travel, field trips, etc.

The Struggle Between Civilization And Savagery In Justice...
The theme of the struggle between civilization and savagery is an archetype to one of life s larger
themes humanity is chaos. Humanity is constantly fighting and bickering. It is human nature to do
so. Throughout the ages, humans and technology have evolved. Human natures have not. The
darkness beneath their skin, the darkness lurking inside waiting for opportunity, is still there and
always will be. In the movie Justice League, Lois Lane while writing an article states, Darkness
is not the absence of light. It is the conviction that the light will never return...Our darkness was

##s And Weaknesses And Strengths Of Rudy Giuliani
Like all famous leaders, Rudy Giuliani had his fair share of strengths and weaknesses. Giuliani
showed the country and the world what true leadership was in the wake of 9/11. During a time of
crisis, he demonstrated courageousness, dedication and composure. Even though Giuliani is mostly
remembered for his strengths, his weaknesses are usually overlooked. He was criticized for being
unfaithful and allowing lust to break up his marriage. Another weakness of Giuliani was his
inconsistency to reprimand his policeforce. Giuliani was a man of positivity. No matter the
situation, Giuliani always looked at the positive side of things and didn t allow his emotions to get
the best of him. This strength of his leadership style stemmed from the core values his father
taught him. In an interview with Barbara Walters, Giuliani talked about what his father taught him.
Giuliani explained that his father had taught him how to act during a crisis: When there is a crisis
going on, the most important thing is to be calmer. If everybody s getting very upset and very
emotional, the best way to figure out your way through it is to actually become calmer and relax
more. He understood that when in a time of uncertainty, being calm was the key. Another key
strength of Giuliani was how he was a natural born leader. NYPD Commissioner William Bratton
commented on Giuliani s natural born leadership. I ve seen the mayor in many instances during the

Impact of Advertising on American Society Essay examples
Impact of Advertising on American Society
American society has changed drastically over the past years and some people say advertisements
reflect the society that we live in now. Advertising in our society encourages unhealthy habits,
focuses in on our weaknesses and leads us to believe that we are materialistic. Advertisements can
also change our vision of reality and makes us believe the impossible. Advertisements use sexual
and racial stereotypes to help sell their products. People in our society encourage the commercials
that demonstrate these things, like focus in on our weaknesses.

It is the same old pepperoni pizza or sausage pizza as before, but it is in a different form or shape.
People like new and different things. Also, with this new pizza, it makes it a lot easier to order a

rather one that is half anchovies and the other half extra cheese to satisfy all the family members.
The easier it is, the better it will be. This is how our society thinks and wants things to be, easy
and simple. So this pizza is new, but it doesn t necessarily mean it will taste better. Television
commercials are not the only form of advertising. There are many more types of methods to

An advertising method that restaurants often used is games and prizes, like You won 1 free

Mother had not died. Mother had been alive all the time. And father had lied about this (112).
While his father may have had good intentions by lying to Christopher, to him it seems as if his
father had been keeping secrets from his because he believed he was incapable of understanding
them. Christopher s father has lost his son s trust, and Christopher felt betrayed. He couldn t
believe that his own father, his parent who had been nurturing him ever since his mother had been
gone was capable of lying to his face about something that big. In addition, another external conflict
was between Wellington and whoever killed him. The story began with the dog s murder, and after
a sequence of events it was

Richard Rodriguez Complexion
Authors utilize rhetorical devices in order to convey the true meaning of his work.
In his essay, Complexion, Richard RodrГguez uses the rhetorical modes of description and
symbolism. The description gives the work a story like flow, while the symbolism makes the
reader more able to experience the emotions and feelings present within the authors complexion.
The utilization of the stylistic tools aids in conveying the true message of the author s claim
which is that he received mass racism out in the society. Since the essay is an account of his own
experiences with racism, the description works well to take the reader to different periods of time
and events in Rodriguez s life.
The use of description allows the essay to be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
His mothers friends would also often talk about what a burden or curse it was, to have dark skin, ...it
was a woman s spoken concern: the fear of having a dark skinned son or daughter. (Rodriguez

that a light skinned child would not face as much prejudice a dark skinned child would growing

Consumer Surveillance Is Unethical And Manipulative
Retail Anthropologists Playing Big Brother Trial and error was the name of the game when it came
to retail improvements. In the past retailers would have to test methods on their own with little to
help them but the sales they got in return. Going out of their way to find out what works with
consumer and what doesn t. Losing customers all while trying to figure out what they truly wantand
trying to heed to their needs. With the increase of technology in every aspect of life, we are
starting to see retailers follow suit. This is done in the form of surveillanceon consumers by retail
anthropologists. For many years it has been a widely debated subject as to where these practices are
ethical and manipulative. While many believe consumer... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Consumers greatly benefit from the studying of their shopping behaviors by retail anthropologists.
Imagine a man named Dan, walks into a store with a few set items to buy in mind. Dan is
determined to go in and buy those items. A few weeks prior the store had been examined to
improve on providing what their customers want. Dan just so happens to be a frequent shopper
at the store so his metadata influenced how store layout and placement of items. Normally, Dan
would go to get what he wants and get distracted along the way but thanks to the improved layout
and consideration for the shoppers needs in mind, Dan was finally able to quickly get what he
wants and leave the store. Dan directly benefitted from having retail anthropologists use his
data. Data taken from the YouTube video, How stores track your shopping behavior shows that
with 2 shelf facing it takes 3.3 seconds to locate Post Bran Flakes, as opposed to 2.3 seconds
with 4 shelf facing. Not only does Dan benefit from the consumer surveillance but so do all
consumers. Now, let s say another shopper named Lisa goes to the same store as Dan. Lisa hates
the store because of their narrow walkways and being bombarded by things as she enter. Just as
with Dan, she is subjected to surveillance to see how shoppers behave in that store. The

Explain Why Can T School Be Like A Fairground
Why can t school be like a fairground? Is not that I don t like school I mean I like playing with
my friends, school dinners and drawing pictures. But I get bored and distracted having to sit
class and listen to a teacher talk about things that I don t quite understand. I can count up to ten,
write my name and know all the letters of the alphabet. Yet, every time I poke my tongue out at
anyone who calls me a golly wog, Miss Gobles makes me stand in a corner facing the wall with
my hands on head. She ignores my tears; making me feel like Bah, bah black sheep. Speaking of
nursery rhymes, I think Humpty Dumpty should be fried and turned into an omelette and those 10
green bottles should be shot. Though, I do like the orange and lemon song... Show more content on

The Dangers Of Chemical Weapons
Chemical weapons are one of the most devastating and lethal weapons ever created by humankind;
they have caused massive destruction since their introduction in World War One and still wreak
havoc on today s battlefields. Chemical weapons continue to be used all over the world on
battlefields and against civilian populations, unfortunately, very little has been done by the
international community to prohibit chemical weapons as only three international treaties have
been created with the aim to prohibit the manufacture and use of chemical weapons. As a result, the
worsening problem of production and deployment of chemical weapons proves that earlier
conventions have failed and new, stronger, conventions must be made by the international
community to prohibit further use of chemical weapons.
Chemical weapons are known to be one of the most dangerous weapons ever created, but the
general population is unaware of what a chemical weapon is and why it is dangerous, this is one of
the major reason why not enough has been done to prohibit chemical weapons. The Chemical
Weapons Convention defines chemical weapons as toxic chemicals contained in a delivery system
such as a bomb or a shell, that causes death, injury, incapacitation or sensory harm. The effects of
chemical weapons make it very dangerous and are one of the reasons it is still used after one
hundred years since its introduction. Chemical weapons have been used in Syria and Israel
unfortunately against civilian targets with lethal repercussions. Regrettably, Syria and Israel are not
the only countries in the world to have chemical weapons. An estimate by the United Nations Office
of Disarmament Affairs explains that the top twenty countries with the largest armed forces have
chemical weapons stockpiles, with Russia and the United States of America possessing about
seventy thousand metric tonnes of chemical agent. If the international community continues to
ignore the major issue of chemical weapons, the world is still at risk if countries continue to keep
their very large stockpiles of lethal chemical weapons.
Another major reason for the prevalence chemical weapons have today is because many
individuals are not aware of the scale of damage chemical

Eating Disorders In Black Swan
Black Swan is a dark and chaotic film that follows a ballet dancer named Nina who s only and
greatest dream is to become the Swan Queen in the production Swan Lake. The movie follows
Nina s demise into chaos as she attempts to master and embody both the white and black swan.
Although dark, confusing, and sometimes frightening, the movie excellently portrays the utter
chaos of living with an eating disorder, as well as the perils of schizophrenia, and anxiety. The
movie begins with the portrayal of Nina as a timid person struggling with Anorexia and self
confidence with the aspiration to become the perfect ballet dancer. After Nina gets the role as the
swanQueen, Nina begins to take a turn for the worse and gradually shows increasingly severe
symptoms of schizophrenia and dissociation,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Marya Hornbacher in Wasted describes eating disorders as a little private drama in which
everything becomes life or death... terribly grand and crashing, distracting the person from the
real world (Hornbacher 239). It s a life where there is no middle ground and I think this how
Nina lived. Nina struggled immensely with herself even before the schizophrenia became clear.
Hornbacher describes her eating disorder as a distraction from the fear that the real world will
gobble you up the minute you step into it, as well as the fear of the self, a completely dualistic
and contradictory fear (Hornbacher 239). Even at the start of the film, the viewer can see that Nina
is scared. Nina s mother molded her to always strive for perfection, and the aspiration for perfection
became so overwhelming and important it began to eat her away. Marya Hornbacher also
emphasizes the American culture s negative influence on striving for physical perfection. Ballet, a
sport that emphasizes the body, most likely had an enormous influence on Nina s turn to

Universality Constraints
This essay discusses Rawls formal constraints of publicity and universality for theorising about
justice. I will explain what these constraints are and how they feature in Rawls theory of justice. I
will argue that they are reasonable constraints given certain assumptions Rawls makes concerning
the conception of a person as free and equal. I consider two objections; the first finds the publicity
constraint unreasonable; I will argue that it fails to constitute a valid objection. The second
objection concerns the universality constraint; it does not dispute the reasonableness of the
constraint, but disputes the ability of Rawls theory to satisfy the constraint. This is a much more
problematic objection. I conclude that Rawls constraints of publicity and universality are
reasonable, but that his theory does not fully satisfy this latter constraint.
Rawls aim in A Theory of Justiceis to construct a theory of social justice that is justifiable and
acceptable to free and equal citizens in society. He argues that such a theory should provide
principles of justice which will govern ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It rejects the idea that principles of justice must be publicly known and accepted. Instead, it is
argued that systems for effective social cooperation are extremely complex, and that they often
make high moral demands of citizens. For these reasons, citizens cannot be expected to understand,
nor to willingly agree on principles of justice that govern such systems. The idea is that constraining
what can comprise principles of justice in this manner might lead to injustices caused by
misunderstandings of what morality requires, or by unwillingness to act in accordance with what it
requires. In order to avoid social disorder, the parties in the original position should not concern
themselves with choosing only those principles which comply with the publicity

It is accountable for the development of an introverted or extroverted type of personality because if a person is unconsciously aware of their actions then it s possible they do not have a lot of control over certain behaviors such as greed or pride. Also when someone becomes fixated on any of the psychosexual stages then it can alter behaviors and will affect personality as the child develops. So for example if a person has a very weak ego and a more dominant superego or more dominant id then it can have a huge affect on their personality. It is accountable for the development of an introverted or extroverted type of personality because behavior displayed in children is often expressed similarly when they get older. So for example if a child is often misbehaving and always gets into trouble then it s possible they will begin to think everything they do is wrong. As the child grows older he then becomes more shy and unsociable creating an introverted type of personality. On the other hand, if a child is often misbehaving and the other children laugh then its likely they will act out more to amuse those other children. As the characteristics of this child develop then its probable they will have a more extroverted type of personality. Heredity is also a factor in the trait perspective. If a family has a history of calm, reliable, and quiet individuals then their offspring will have the same characteristics. Barrett is a masterpiece written to describe the life of Irish immigrants who went to start new lives in America after conditions at home became un accommodative. Widespread insecurity, callous English colonizers and the ghost of great famine still lingering on and on in their lives, made this ethnic group be convinced that home was longer a home anymore. They descended in United States of America in large numbers. James R. Barrett in his book notes that these people were the first group of immigrants to settle in America. • 9. Julius Caesar Ethos Pathos Logos Ethos, pathos and logos influence every part of our lives from the time we wake up to the moment we fall asleep. These three advertising tactics are also the pillars of political speeches and other rhetorical media. In the play The Tragedy of Julius Caesar by William Shakespeare, ethos, pathos and logos are used to persuade many of the characters views on the conspirators plot and Caesar s subsequent death. My independent speech, Tear Down this Wall, was given by Ronald Reagan on June 12, 1987 in Berlin, Germany. This speech was given during the Cold War, which separated the Democratic from Communist countries. This is one of the most notable uses of rhetoric in Tear Down This Wall. Reagan states,t [that he] finds in Berlin a message of hope, even in the shadow of this wall, a message of triumph . This quote is a powerful example of pathos because it validated the dreams of so many people, the hope for freedom. The wall itself not only was a military boundary, but it also separated families and friends. Reagan s use of pathos was so powerful in this speech because of the hate and oppression the wall symbolized for so many years. TRANSITION In Marc Antony s funeral speech he calls Caesar s stab wounds the unkindest cut of them all. In this line he creates an emotional connection with the crowd. Through that connection he is able to impart a feeling of distrust towards Brutus, furthering the crowds agreement with his argument. • 10. Diversity in Three Voices Diversity in Three Voices Scientist When working with individuals from different cultures, individuals informally learn the differences that exist between them and their respective cultures (DeCenzo Silhanek, 2001, p. 29). Often the word diversity is confused with political correctness or human equality but it is the understanding of differences between people and how they interact. Diversity is defined as the quality of being different but composed of distinct elements or qualities (Parvis, 2005, p. 15). Throughout history the United States has been known as the melting pot, but this concept was a perception not a reality because the melting pot ended up benefiting only white, prominent settlers. Looking at diversity is observing differences and there are a lot of them. For example, male versus female, religion versus no religion, homosexual versus heterosexual, foreign or domestic, republican versus democrat, Caucasian versus African American, Mexican versus Latino, Cherokee Indian versus Choctaw Indian, poor versus rich; and differences could encompass several more pages. We can deny that differences exist or we can consent to differences while discovering from others the assets of dissimilarity. People must learn, therefore, to recognize differences in others their backgrounds, customs, and work schedules and appreciate, even celebrate, those differences (DeCenzo Silhanek, 2001, p. 29). There are five frames in the tale: the general prologue or the pilgrim s point of view, Pardoner s prologue, introduction of the tale, the actual tale itself and lastly the old man s tale. The various frames present in The Pardoner s Tale each help explain the narratives contained inside. The audience is able to understand that Daniels has accepted his reality, making him the good man . A common theme today is not accepting reality or being in denial, this is due to the way denying the reality of something enables the body to cope (bodies defence mechanism1). The character of Daniels helps to influence today s society by showing us that accepting the reality we create is better than to regret or deny it. Thus, changing the way, we perceive reality. In the film Inception , Nolan influences the audience to connect to the character of Dominic Cobb. Like Shutter Island the character (Cobb) in this film is also revolved around. Nolan uses a theme evident in today s society, the perception of reality to develop and connect the portrayal of Cobb and connect the audience. Their possibility of occurrence, time, place and severity of the strike can be reasonably and in some cases accurately predicted by technological and scientific advances. Through art, humans are able to express their innermost ideas and feelings, without having the difficulty of trying to find the correct words to accurately describe their thought processes. The animals most commonly depicted are horses, deer, reindeer, bison, ipex, aurochs, woolly rhinoceroses, and mammoths. Sometimes lions and bears are also created, but rarely fish or birds. Humans were also commonly represented (Berenguer 73). Prehistoric men also created abstract designs that have proven hard to identify. They are referred to as signs and a special nomenclature has been developed to better understand their meaning. Tectiforms are generally quadrangular shapes, with crossing vertical lines inside forming a trellis or mesh design. Tectiforms often appear near naturalistic figures of animals. Scutiforms have been thought to represent the female vulva. They are formed by red patches, often in the form of a comma or a key. Other types of signs are penniforms, ramiforms, and claviforms. The exact meanings of most of these signs remain unknown (Berenguer 82). The French scholar Leroi Gourhan formed a theory regarding the animalistic and abstract art representations. He believed all depictions revolved around the law of sex, noting that the philosophy of the prehistoric men concentrated all explanations on sex and sexual relations. Cave art depictions of animals are divided into male and female. The male animals are horses, she goats, and deer. Bison, bovidae, and mammoths are female. Thus the Japanese government was forced to sell their industries to private enterprises for a fraction of what they cost just to break somewhat even. The Control Of Nature By John Mcphee Justin Li 9/25/14 Red Earth Science The Control of Nature Essay In the book, The Control of Nature by John McPhee, one can see humans in a multitude of locations attempting to control the various aspects of their natural environment. Furthermore, it is clear that the three enduring understandings of Earth Science are present throughout the book as an ongoing theme. The first, the idea that energy, from the Sun and from Earth s interior, drives all of Earth s cycles and processes, can be interpreted in many different ways. However, in the different sections of the book, one sees that the Sun can cause weather patterns and can lead to different outcomes. Additionally, the energy, or power, resulting from the intense heat and pressure from the Earth s interior, can cause volcanic eruptions. As for the idea that matter moves through Earth s spheres in cyclical processes, over varying periods of time, and at different scales, one can see that water, land, plant matter, and even molten rock come and go in a definite period, whether it is thirty years, or even centuries. In regards to the third idea, that Earth s surfaces and processes are altered by human engineering, one can see a plethora of examples in the book. The energy from the Sun and from Earth s interior and the events that are caused from that energy can cause humans to alter the surfaces and processes of Earth by building everything from levees to basins and can even cause humans to make an attempt at cooling flowing ... I have attended several of the school board meetings over the past three years and have witnessed a lot of bitterness and dissatisfaction among the board members and attendees. Even though Giuliani is mostly remembered for his strengths, his weaknesses are usually overlooked. He was criticized for being unfaithful and allowing lust to break up his marriage. In the past retailers would have to test methods on their own with little to help them but the sales they got in return. Going out of their way to find out what works with consumer and what doesn t. Losing customers all while trying to figure out what they truly wantand trying to heed to their needs. With the increase of technology in every aspect of life, we are starting to see retailers follow suit. This is done in the form of surveillanceon consumers by retail anthropologists. For many years it has been a widely debated subject as to where these practices are ethical and manipulative. While many believe consumer... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Consumers greatly benefit from the studying of their shopping behaviors by retail anthropologists. Imagine a man named Dan, walks into a store with a few set items to buy in mind. Dan is determined to go in and buy those items. A few weeks prior the store had been examined to improve on providing what their customers want. Dan just so happens to be a frequent shopper at the store so his metadata influenced how store layout and placement of items. Normally, Dan would go to get what he wants and get distracted along the way but thanks to the improved layout and consideration for the shoppers needs in mind, Dan was finally able to quickly get what he wants and leave the store. Dan directly benefitted from having retail anthropologists use his data. Data taken from the YouTube video, How stores track your shopping behavior shows that with 2 shelf facing it takes 3.3 seconds to locate Post Bran Flakes, as opposed to 2.3 seconds with 4 shelf facing. Not only does Dan benefit from the consumer surveillance but so do all consumers. Now, let s say another shopper named Lisa goes to the same store as Dan. Lisa hates the store because of their narrow walkways and being bombarded by things as she enter. Just as with Dan, she is subjected to surveillance to see how shoppers behave in that store. The ... • 44. Explain Why Can T School Be Like A Fairground Why can t school be like a fairground? Is not that I don t like school I mean I like playing with my friends, school dinners and drawing pictures. But I get bored and distracted having to sit class and listen to a teacher talk about things that I don t quite understand. I can count up to ten, write my name and know all the letters of the alphabet. Yet, every time I poke my tongue out at anyone who calls me a golly wog, Miss Gobles makes me stand in a corner facing the wall with my hands on head. She ignores my tears; making me feel like Bah, bah black sheep. Speaking of nursery rhymes, I think Humpty Dumpty should be fried and turned into an omelette and those 10 green bottles should be shot. Though, I do like the orange and lemon song... • 45. The Dangers Of Chemical Weapons Chemical weapons are one of the most devastating and lethal weapons ever created by humankind; they have caused massive destruction since their introduction in World War One and still wreak havoc on today s battlefields. Chemical weapons continue to be used all over the world on battlefields and against civilian populations, unfortunately, very little has been done by the international community to prohibit chemical weapons as only three international treaties have been created with the aim to prohibit the manufacture and use of chemical weapons. As a result, the worsening problem of production and deployment of chemical weapons proves that earlier conventions have failed and new, stronger, conventions must be made by the international community to prohibit further use of chemical weapons. Chemical weapons are known to be one of the most dangerous weapons ever created, but the general population is unaware of what a chemical weapon is and why it is dangerous, this is one of the major reason why not enough has been done to prohibit chemical weapons. The Chemical Weapons Convention defines chemical weapons as toxic chemicals contained in a delivery system such as a bomb or a shell, that causes death, injury, incapacitation or sensory harm. The effects of chemical weapons make it very dangerous and are one of the reasons it is still used after one hundred years since its introduction. Chemical weapons have been used in Syria and Israel unfortunately against civilian targets with lethal repercussions. Regrettably, Syria and Israel are not the only countries in the world to have chemical weapons. An estimate by the United Nations Office of Disarmament Affairs explains that the top twenty countries with the largest armed forces have chemical weapons stockpiles, with Russia and the United States of America possessing about seventy thousand metric tonnes of chemical agent. If the international community continues to ignore the major issue of chemical weapons, the world is still at risk if countries continue to keep their very large stockpiles of lethal chemical weapons. Another major reason for the prevalence chemical weapons have today is because many individuals are not aware of the scale of damage chemical ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 46. Eating Disorders In Black Swan Black Swan is a dark and chaotic film that follows a ballet dancer named Nina who s only and greatest dream is to become the Swan Queen in the production Swan Lake. The movie follows Nina s demise into chaos as she attempts to master and embody both the white and black swan. Although dark, confusing, and sometimes frightening, the movie excellently portrays the utter chaos of living with an eating disorder, as well as the perils of schizophrenia, and anxiety. The movie begins with the portrayal of Nina as a timid person struggling with Anorexia and self confidence with the aspiration to become the perfect ballet dancer. After Nina gets the role as the swanQueen, Nina begins to take a turn for the worse and gradually shows increasingly severe symptoms of schizophrenia and dissociation,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Marya Hornbacher in Wasted describes eating disorders as a little private drama in which everything becomes life or death... terribly grand and crashing, distracting the person from the real world (Hornbacher 239). It s a life where there is no middle ground and I think this how Nina lived. Nina struggled immensely with herself even before the schizophrenia became clear. Hornbacher describes her eating disorder as a distraction from the fear that the real world will gobble you up the minute you step into it, as well as the fear of the self, a completely dualistic and contradictory fear (Hornbacher 239). Even at the start of the film, the viewer can see that Nina is scared. Nina s mother molded her to always strive for perfection, and the aspiration for perfection became so overwhelming and important it began to eat her away. Marya Hornbacher also emphasizes the American culture s negative influence on striving for physical perfection. Ballet, a sport that emphasizes the body, most likely had an enormous influence on Nina s turn to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 47. Universality Constraints This essay discusses Rawls formal constraints of publicity and universality for theorising about justice. I will explain what these constraints are and how they feature in Rawls theory of justice. I will argue that they are reasonable constraints given certain assumptions Rawls makes concerning the conception of a person as free and equal. I consider two objections; the first finds the publicity constraint unreasonable; I will argue that it fails to constitute a valid objection. The second objection concerns the universality constraint; it does not dispute the reasonableness of the constraint, but disputes the ability of Rawls theory to satisfy the constraint. This is a much more problematic objection. I conclude that Rawls constraints of publicity and universality are reasonable, but that his theory does not fully satisfy this latter constraint. Rawls aim in A Theory of Justiceis to construct a theory of social justice that is justifiable and acceptable to free and equal citizens in society. He argues that such a theory should provide principles of justice which will govern ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It rejects the idea that principles of justice must be publicly known and accepted. Instead, it is argued that systems for effective social cooperation are extremely complex, and that they often make high moral demands of citizens. For these reasons, citizens cannot be expected to understand, nor to willingly agree on principles of justice that govern such systems. The idea is that constraining what can comprise principles of justice in this manner might lead to injustices caused by misunderstandings of what morality requires, or by unwillingness to act in accordance with what it requires. In order to avoid social disorder, the parties in the original position should not concern themselves with choosing only those principles which comply with the publicity ...
