The Contradiction of Chivalry and Courtly Love Essays
The Contradiction of Chivalry and Courtly Love
Two conflicting disciplines are prevalent throughout Arthurian Legend; that of chivalry and that of
courtly love. The ideal of each clash throughout the medieval tales, and it is impossible to interfuse
the two models for society. Chivalry is a masculine code, an aggressive discipline, whereas courtly
love is based upon women their needs, wants, and desires. The consistent problem if Lancelot and
Guinevere s adulterous relationship in different tellings of the affair relates back to the differences
presented in chivalric code and courtly love ideals.
The chivalric code speaks of brave conquerors waging war against the Seven deadly Sins(Schofield
5). The knight places all thought ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
On the other hand, though, there is the court conception that adulterous love is virtuous, despite
the fact that engaging in such love, secrets become deceitful and deception a way of life. The
deception of Lancelot to King Arthur by his affair with Guinevere is not viewed by Arthur to be
adulterous. He does not get mad at Lancelot for the affair, rather the fact that he as a knight has
broken the chivalric code; the code among knights that specifies actions to be honest, noble, and
virtuous. Because Lancelot is a knight, his discipline is that of the knights the chivalric code.
Because of this, he commits an act of treason with his relationship with Guinevere.
Guinevere, being a lady of the court, abides to the dictates of courtly love. Courtly love is a code
created by the court poets in the fourteenth and fifteenth centuries, under the promotion of Marie de
Champagne. There is more of a social code than a written law that is adhered to. It is, rather, a
fanciful trend that hits the courts of the nobility. Courtly love actually condones fornication,
adultery, sacrilege, but represents them as a necessary element to what it considers to be
virtuous(Denomy 22). This adultery is accepted, as it is believed that true love cannot be found
through the politically arranged marriages that occur. One marries a husband for bettering land
holdings, power, and wealth, and

Stefan Sagmeister Research Paper
Stefan Sagmeister was born in Australia. He would attend and graduate from an art school in
Dornbirn, Australia and would then go on to apply for graphic design at the University of Applied
Arts Vienna.....At first, he was rejected. He observed that his drawing skills were not up to what
the other people had been submitting, and for his final exam, he opted to take an abstract approach
to the subject titled Green in the city .

The solution was to create a miniature world by using tiny scaled items. The only items left in
normal scale where the Frooti packaged pieces, as well as Mangos. It created a sense that the
Mango and the Frutti were the heroes of the short stories. Sagmeister opted to not just keep the
images stagnant, but to also include the usage of movement and stop motion graphics within the
campaign. The turnout was very successful. The usage of bold color also helped to make the Frutti
pop and give a sense of playfulness throughout the imagery.

Classify Genetic Diseases
There are three categories that can classify genetic diseases. They are single gene disorders,
chromosome disorders, and multifactorial disorder or complex disease. Each of these categories
are different with and affect people in certain ways. Single gene disorders, also called Mendelian
disorders, are caused by a modification that occurs in one specific gene. An autosomal dominant
defect occurs when there is an altered gene and a healthy gene that are inherited. An example of
this type of defect would be Huntington s disease, an individual only needs one copy of this
defective gene on chromosomefour to have the disorder. Autosomal recessive defect, is another
type of single gene disorders that occurs when there is two altered variations of

Portrayal Of Female Sexuality By Bram Stoker s Dracula
Bram Stoker s 1897 Dracula is a novel that condemns liberated female sexuality, presenting it as
volatile and threatening to the established patriarchal order of the Victorian Era. By examining the
varying level of sexuality among Stoker s female characters and their narrative outcomes, the novel
s attitude that female sexuality is hostile becomes apparent.
In Castle Dracula, Harker meets three vampiric women whose monstrosity is presented as
inseparable from their eroticism. Describing their fangs, Jonathan Harker writes I could see in the
moonlight the moisture shining on the scarlet lips and on the red tongue as it lapped the white
sharp teeth (52). Here, fangs serve as signs of these women s inhumanity and their carnality, this ...

In extreme contrast to the lecherous she beasts met by her husband in Transylvania, Mrs
Johnathan Harker epitomises the Victorian notion of a good woman. Rather than occupy the
role of a physical lover, Mina is a maternal figure, nurturing all her friends with an innate and
instinctive tenderness. To the bereaved Lord Arthur Godalming she opens her arms
unthinkingly (275), resting his head on her shoulder as though it were that of a baby that some
day may lie on my bosom (275). Despite this simile endowing Mina with power over Godalming
it is an acceptable power for a woman to have, that possessed by mothers over their babes, rather
than that by dominatrices over their victims. At the same time as being femininely caring, she is
also intelligent and sensible, perceived as typically masculine qualities by the Victorians.
Described by Van Helsing on more than one occasion of having a man s brain (281, 404) while
also having a woman s heart (281), Mina is rendered virtually void of any sexual desire or
attraction. Her womanliness centres on gentle compassion and the manliness of her mind ensures
she is too sensible to give in to any subconscious eroticism. She alone of the novel s female
characters survives, and ends happily married with one son.
Unfortately, Mina s friend Miss Lucy Westenra shares none of the former s

Native Hawaiians And Native Americans
When Native Hawaiians welcomed Captain Cook and his crew, they began a journey that would
lead to the crumbling of Hawaiian culture. After Captain Cook, missionaries continued to travel to
Hawaii to, in their opinion, help the Hawaiian people. Native Hawaiians were viewed as savages
and were seemingly given the best assistance from the missionaries. However, the help that the
Hawaiians received led to them being demoralized and hurt psychologically and physiologically. In
order to succeed, underdogs often need the assistance of others. However, too much aid from others
can result in the help becoming the underdog s Goliath instead of their savior. The Hawaiians,
being thought of as the underdogs by the missionaries, were given an overwhelming amount of help
which led to the missionaries becoming the Hawaiian s Goliath. Before Captain Cook stumbled
upon Hawaii, the Hawaiians lived in harmony with the aina, or the land. They lived by ahupua a,
or strict land divisions that respected the natural landscape. Communities were created around
rivers and water sources. The Hawaiians had a strict law system called the kapu. They lived
with great respect to the land and believed in demi gods such as Pele, the goddess of the volcano,
or Mau i, who was believed to have pulled the islands out of the ocean in order for people to live
on the land. Peace and prosperity thrived throughout the islands because people understood that
each individual had an important role and that the land was

Asset Light Strategies Are the Only Way Ahead for...
Topic 6: Asset light strategies are the only way ahead for international hospitality companies.
In the topic asset light strategies refers to international hospitality companies owning less assets.
Assets are items of economic value owned by an individual or corporation, especially that which
could be converted to cash (www.investorwords.com). The various different strategies international
hospitality companies use in order to lighten their assets could be by franchising, management
contracts and offshoring (also known as outsourcing). Each of these strategies will be explained in
depth throughout the essay. The reason why businesses would want to have fewer assets is because

by hospitality companies using management contracts to run companies then they can gain from

there are some downfalls to management contracts such as conflict of interest (Outcome and

independent contractor, or freelancer to do a specific task or tasks for an organization in which the

with the increase in globalisation the distinction between the two has and will become less

Loneliness in the Lady of Shalott and Mariana.
The themes of loneliness, exile and escape from reality are important aspects that characterize the
works of Alfred Lord Tennyson. During the 1800s, these aspects differentiated him from other
Victorian poets, distinguishing him as one of the most popular poets of the Victorian era. In
Tennyson s poems Mariana, and The Lady of Shalott, the artists express loneliness in their isolation
from the rest of the world. The following essay will compare and contrast the displays of temporary
and permanent loneliness of these artists through Tennyson s use of imagery, repetition, and word
painting. Tennyson s extensive repetition in The Lady of Shalott and Mariana is an important
feature in establishing feelings of loneliness. In Marianna, the... Show more content on

Tennyson s repetition of dreary in association with various aspects of the poem, such as her life,
the night, and the day, all build up to Mariana s claim, I am very dreary (81). This makes obvious
to the reader the extent of Mariana s loneliness В– so has no mended her state of mind. As in The
Lady of Shalott, the fluctuations of the general repetitions play an important role in demonstrating
the major theme of loneliness in the poems. In this sense, repetition in poetry is a form of torture. In
Mariana s case, her repetition of dreary and aweary is perhaps Tennyson s way of brainwashing
the reader into relating to the loneliness of the artist. Similarly, in the Lady s case, the repetition
of Shalott and Camelot show distinct barriers between the artist s world and the real world, in
order to infect the reader s mind with feelings of loneliness from isolation. That said, repetition
in these two poems acts as a self fulfilling prophecy which causes the reader to believe anything
that is extensively repeated. In both The Lady of Shalott and Mariana, Tennyson also uses
deliberate stanza structure in order to stress his key themes. Although the meter of the two poems
differ from one another, Tennyson s purpose for doing so is very similar in both works. The Lady
of Shalott is based on lines one to four and lines seven to nine of each ten line stanza being written
in iambic tetrameter, and lines five and ten, most often occurring as iambic

Era Of The American West Essay
I will be talking about the era of the American West in the middle and late 1800s and the
differences and similarities of primary sources and the textbook HIST4. Chief Red Cloud s
Speech, the Sandy Creek Massacre from the Rocky Mountain News Editorial and Helen Hunt
Jackson s Account of Sandy Creek, Nannie Alderson, from the book called A Bride Goes West,
Epitaph on a Tombstone, and Bill of sale for a Chinese Prostitute. For anyone wanting to know

HIST4 or any other books by Kevin M. Shultz or by reading primary sources dating by the time.
First of all, the first primary source is about Chief Red Cloud s Speech from the Oglala Teton
Sioux. He opposed white incursions into Native Americans lives and territory, although he
supported peace but he did not supported the violence. His speech talks about the plight of his
Native Americans peoples in the last decades of the 1800s. In the textbook it showed very little
details and some details were clarified more in the textbook than in the primary sources but the
primary source showed more to understand why the white incursions were killing the Native
Americans. However, it showed that the Native Americans were having difficulties with the white
incursions. Also, it showed the Dawes General Allotment Act... Show more content on

Essay on Childhood Schizophrenia
Schizophrenia is a mental illness which affects millions of people throughout the world. Scientists
have begun to understand more and more about the possible causes, predisposing factors, types,
and possible treatments for schizophrenia. (Torrey, 1995) It is very rare for schizophrenic
symptoms to appear before the age of 12 but it does occur. Recently, there has been a growing
interest in childhood schizophrenia. It is less than one sixtieth as common as the adult onset type
but the characteristics are very similar. Childhood schizophrenia also tends to be harder to treat and
to have a worse prognosis than the adult onset form. (Rapoport, 1997)

It seems to be centered in the 6th 7th month of fetal development, a period characterized by

there are many signs of the onset of schizophrenia. Major feeding disturbances occurred and
children were described as having poor sucking ability or falling asleep every time the mother
tried to nurse. (Cantor, 1988) The major sign is the mother infant relationship. The child has no
desire to cuddle with the parents or be held and create the bond that is so desperately needed.
(Arieti, 1974) The sleep cycle is often the first symptom to pre schizophrenia. Infants were
reported to В‘sleep almost constantly during the first few months, yet by the age of six months,
they refuse to sleep at all . (Cantor, 1988) Severe nightmares are very common in the first two
years of life, where the child is unable to be awoken, or the child wakes spontaneously, vomits,
and falls back asleep. (Cantor, В‘88) By the time the child is three or four, serious sleep
disorders begin to develop. The child just can t fall asleep, and it seems like they just can t relax .
(Cantor, В‘88) These children are more likely to sleep walk, and have no fear in doing anything

Three classes of Jews were considered political and religious leaders during the time of Jesus; the
Sadducees, the Pharisees, and the Herodians. They were often referred as the ruling council at that
time. The Sadducees were aristocrats which were wealthy and held powerful positions and were
often called the liberal scholars of Christ s day . They were the ones who controlled the state
locally, spoke to the state universally, directed relations with the Romans, participated in the
Sanhedrin, prepared and drove the army, and gathered taxes. They did not relate well to the
common man, nor did the common man hold them in high opinion. In comparison to the

A striking similarity was that they all were against Jesus and His teachings. Those three most
overwhelming, political, and religious gatherings wanted to kill Him. So they all joined efforts
to do everything needed to reach their goal. They place all they trust in what each of them
accepted as reality, insulting the critical fact that the main teachings was from God, through His
Son, Jesus Christ. This work has revealed one customary conviction about these three religious
groups their solid lack of regard for Jesus. Their unbelief drove them to impact God s people to
have confidence in their conviction rather than the truth that lays in Christ alone. Perhaps the
best lesson that can be learned from those three religious gatherings is to believe everything the
Bible says, including the miraculous and the afterlife unlike the Sadducees. One should not treat
traditions as having equal authority as Scripture, and not allow our relationship with God to be
reduced to a legalistic list of rules and rituals unlike the Pharisees. Romans 14:12 says, So then,
each one will give an account of himself to God. The Pharisees, Sadducees, and Herodians drove
the all inclusive community of God into ungodly and religious beliefs. One day they will be judge
according to what they did and each individuals will have to give an account of himself to

Problem Solving Instruction Questionnaire BFP2 Task 1 Bridget Clark August 21, 2016 A Written
Project Presented to the Faculty of the Teachers College of Western Governors University
Introduction Within mathematics instruction, strategies for solving basic operations are strong and
systemic. However, students in the intermediate grades struggle with finding and using reliable
strategies for solving word problems. The complexity of language that s used in a mathematical
context makes it difficult for students to have a confident approach. Therefore, research is being
conducted on how reading comprehension can be dove tailed with word problem solving in an
elementary classroom. The Problem Solving Instruction Questionnaire was designed to collect data
from a range of teachers to learn about math problem solving instruction in a variety of classrooms.
This helped identify effective approaches in teaching, to verify poor performance and lack of
strategies with students, and collect any other various input. The data would guide the mathematics
intervention to be used and planned. Research Topic A majority of current and incoming fourth
grade students struggle with solving word problems accurately. Students have difficulty with word
problems mostly based on lack of reliable strategies and poor language interpretation. While fact
fluency may be present, the ability to interpret vocabulary to guide computation leaves many
students unable to construct

Anne Bradstreet To My Dear And Loving Husband Analysis
Anne Bradstreet, A passionate puritan poet
Anne Bradstreet was a passionate poet that was very devoted to her family, her puritan religion,
and her husband. She lived during the early 1600 s and was a part of the Puritanism movement;
her poetic style was in her faith. Bradstreet wrote To My Dear and Loving Husband and Upon the
Burning of Our House, July 10th, 1666 , these two poems are significant because they gave her
acknowledgement for her beliefs and granted her themes to be inspirational.

The poem has also been an indicator of the unevenness of gender roles in Puritan culture, in which
the wife is vulnerable and subservient to the husband (Ruby). Another theme in the poem is how
the gender roles in the culture put women below men. Even though they represent shocking
excesses of material fortune in worldly terms, they are worth less to her than the love of her husband
(Ruby). This shows that no materialistic or currency can compare to her husband s love for her.

The Blind Side Vs Night Analysis

theme is people make it threw obsetcles more easily when other people help them with it. One
main excample of this in both of the storys is that both of the characters face major obstcles
throught the story. An excample in The Blind Side, if that the main character Micheal Oher has to

Another excample from the book night is when Elie and all of the jews get everything taken away

then Micheal. I also came to a conclusion that Elie in not as big as Micheal and that he is white.

Life in the New England colonies during the 1600 s proved to be harsh with the constant fear of
Native American attacks, scarce food, freezing winters, and conflicting opinions about religion.
From this perpetual state of distress, the Salem Witch Trials were birthed, causing a wave of

historians can claim that the trials emerged in early 1692 and came to a close in 1693. The Salem
Witch Trials started in 1692 with more than one hundred fifty people being accused of practicing

Also, ergot is known to cause gangrene which causes tissue to die in parts of the body and often

in Salem, twenty of them were executed as witches, while others rotted away and died in jail. The
people of Salem did not discriminate who they executed or who they sent to jail so the result was
a diverse range of citizens being accused. Nineteen of the twenty executed were hanged on Gallows

Religion Impact On Humans And World Views
This week was about religion impact on humans and world views, as matter of fact sometimes
they are both closely connected. Many of collectivistic countries, especially in Africa, are also
monotheistic. In class my professor said that many years ago, the big part of the world were
collectivistic, people cared more about each other and they were more family oriented. Currently,
both cultures individualistic and collectivistic are so distinct. One is family oriented, and the other
is self oriented. Looking closer, individualistic people are obviously humandoing because they are
always busy trying to figure out what the future holds for them. They work tirelessly to achieve
their goals which also take all time. In collectivistic culturealso, people are no longer different from
individualistic when it comes to time orientation. It is becoming more common that young people
are leaving their family house early than it used to be for different reasons, education or work. This
habit is becoming acceptable in our society because the education standards set on the labor market
are higher. As my country s government has set the masters degree, as the education level required
to get a job in most of governmental institutions, people are working hard to get their masters
degree and fit for the requirement.
This has pushed education seekers to aim higher as well. For a while now, people work hard to
provide for their family, and make it to school. It is possible and not easy. My

Persuasive Essay On Spear Fishing
The Best Place for You to Go Spear Fishing
There are places all over the world for you to delve into the world of spear fishing. There are
fishing spots in Australia and South America. Pretty much anywhere the water is mostly clear,
you can find people enjoying the spear fishing sport. Especially in areas that the water
temperatures remain warm and perhaps it is also one of the main reasons Florida, especially near
the keys, is prime spear fishing area according to most.
In florida, it is possible to fish along the 120 miles of coast that is known as the keys. There are
many divers who venture into that area because of it being the only living coral reef in the United
States. It is warm waters and temperatures are always between 68 85 degrees

Essay A Holistic Approach to Ambulatory Care
It is apparent that treatment with pharmaceutical drugs is not always the preference of the patient.
In order for the delivery of care to be patient centered, a holistic approach to care needs to be a
standard in ambulatory care. This change would enable the assurance that patients are presented
with all options available and enable them to take control of their health.
The Journal of Dietary Supplements discusses the increased use of Complimentary and Alternative
Medicine (CAM) and how it is becoming a need among physicians to educate and train themselves
so that the idea of Integrative Medicine is a realization to the public (Litchy, 2011). This holistic
approach allows the ability for conventional medicine to be incorporated with ... Show more content

The use of technology will enable patients to track important health information. This can be
useful for patients changing primary care providers, meaning the redundant attempts to provide
physician offices with past medical history can be eliminated. A discussion of extensive
implementation of Electronics Health Records (EHR s) to create a service for patients is found
on HealthIT.gov (Health IT, 2014). As of now only a select few organizations include this service
technology and it is called Blue Button. This service allows patients to retrieve all medical records
through the internet rather than having to visit the medical records office at a local facility. With
the inclusion of this service, a broad variety of services including a system wide online patient
portal is a possibility to allow patients the ability to connect mobile health monitoring devices, check
current prescriptions, and review important blood test results (Health IT, 2014). These tools can be
utilized by patients to track and take preventative actions on their health status, but unfortunately
not every healthcare organization offers this to its patients. If the inclusion of this type of service
becomes a standard in care, patients will gain access to their health records and be able to utilize
them through a more convenient effort no matter which provider is seen.
This type of technology will generally lead to improved patient satisfaction as, more control over

Bojack Horseman is an adult cartoon comedy that follows the life of the once been sitcom star
and titular character Bojack Horseman. The show opens up on a scene from his old sitcom
called Horsin Around before cutting to reality where Bojack is at an interview while drunk. This
entire bit sets up a main theme of the show, the segregation of Hollywood glamor and reality. The
interview only furthers this with Bojack attributing the shows wide success to, People coming

John Bowlby s Theory Of Attachment
This report will be about John Bowlby and his theory of attachment plus criticisms and how
these come into effect in practice and legislation. Edward John Mostyn Bowlby was born
February 27th 1907 and died September 2nd 1990. He was born in London to a middle class
family. He was mostly taken care of by his nanny because his parents believed that spending too
much time with him could lead to him becoming a spoilt child. At age 7 he was sent to boarding
school by his parents. After finishing boarding school Bowlby went on to study psychology at
Trinity College in Cambridge and worked with delinquent children. Once he graduated from
Trinity he volunteered at a school and worked with two unstable children which inspired him to
become a child psychiatrist. After this he went on to study medicine at University College
Hospital then psychiatry at Maudsley Hospital. Bowlby also studied at the British Psychoanalytic
Institute and was initially influenced by Melanie Klein but later became dissatisfied with her
work. He became a psychoanalyst in 1937, after this he joined the army and served in World War
2(WW2) in the Royal Army Medical Corps. Once WW2 was over Bowlby became the director of
the Havistock Clinic and then in 1950 after one of his papers was published he become a mental
health consultant for the World Health Organisation. Bowlby s Theory of Attachment was based on
the notion that the baby mother attachment was different from any other relationship the child

Hyperboles In The Odyssey
Homer first utilizes hyperboles to express the hazard of the situation that Odysseus and his men
face. One of Odysseus men Eurylochus is the first one to face Circe s wrath as when one of the
men manages to escape her lair. He then recounts the perilous adventure to the rest of the men,
demonstrating the precariousness of the situation but his prevailing wit to stay back and not be
seduced by Circe s advances. This riskiness of the situation is first demonstrated Eurylochus comes
back to the men on the ship in tears numbing sorrow had stunned [him] to silence tears welled in
his eyes, his heart possessed by grief (272 273). Homer uses alliteration in sorrow stunned and
silence that demonstrates the strong desolation and overall emotional pain that Eurylochus felt, after

Homer uses imagery to depict that Odysseus men have been changed in form as Circe decided to

there is once again a hint at the potential risk Odysseus could be in because he could be turned

Social Justice B block
December 20, 2014 Before waging a war, it is always a good idea to think of what the possible
outcome could be in the situation; to look ahead before making an unalterable, life changing
move. In many cases, different people, not just religious, think of the Just War Theory as a
plausible cause to take a look at before sending troops to fight a war that deem not necessary to be
fought. In the fall of 2001, September 11, it was a day in infamy, a day that will always be
remembered. Terrorist members attacked the United States through different tactics, and led to an
almost never ending difference between the nations. Just War is the theory that war must have a
just cause, which means force may be used only to correct a grave, public evil. It must also have
the right intention, which means that force may be used only for that purpose, only to correct a
wrong doing. It must have legitimate authority: only public authorities and officers have the
ability to wage the war. It must have comparative justice which means that the goods must
outweigh the bads, no matter how bad the other side hurt you. The probability of success must
weigh in to it. How it will be effected overall how much destruction is expected, how the goods
are weighed out by the bads, etc. And finally, is it a last resort. That being said, force can only be
used after there have been peaceful alternatives. All of that being said, the question of the United

The Long Term Effectiveness Of Prolonged Exposure Therapy
Literature Review
Existing controlled examinations of intervention efficacy specific to only sexual assault and rape
are presently minimal in comparison to intervention examinations of combination or other types of
trauma (Regehr, Alaggia, Dennis, Pitts, Saini, 2013). Psychotherapeutic interventions that fail to
differentiate sexual assault and rape victims from other types of trauma victims may decrease the
treatment effectiveness or inadvertently harm participants in this subgroup. Trauma associated
from rape or sexual assault differs from other forms of trauma and treatment efficacy should be
examined in this manner. Trauma from rape or sexual assault entail symptoms of PTSD,
depression, suicidal ideations and sexual dysfunction. Individuals may also indicate feelings of
vulnerability, loss of control, fear, shame, self blame, societal blame and stigma (Russell Davis,
2007; Regehr et al., 2013; Ullman Peter Hagene, 2014). This research proposal intends to explore
the long term effectiveness of Prolonged Exposure Therapy (PE) at reducing distress and trauma
explicitly for adult victims of sexual assault and rape.
Prolonged exposure (PE) is a specific exposure therapy program that derives from Emotional
Processing Theory (EPT). The idea of emotional processing is to interpret realistic information and
accommodate that information into a fear structure which in turn diminishes the fear (Foa, 2011).
Foa (2011) acknowledges that the idea of failing to process trauma is

Importance of High Frequency Trading

While there is no definite answer to what high frequency might be, it has been generally accepted
that they are the type of trades automated by machines using proprietary algorithms and trade at
very high speeds, often executing at least a few trades in under a second. HFT strategies can be
broadly categorized into 4 groups:
Liquidity Providence: Rebate Trading, Automated Market Trading.
Pricing Inefficiency Arbitrage: Scalping, Latency Arbitrage, Statistical Arbitrage
Predatory Trading: Latency Arbitrage Flash Orders, Quote Stuffing

This example is most glaring during market crashes because HFTs would permanently cancel their
orders and liquidity unexpectedly dries up when it is most needed in the market. For example,
many HFTs withdrew from the market during the 2010 flash crash and some even became liquid
demanders (A Blessing or A Curse? The Impact of HFT on Institutional Investors). As such, during
crises, HFTs could cause market dislocation to occur as they pull out from the markets and funds
will not be able to offload positions as macro news events build up, causing some to suffer huge
losses. (http://www.forbes.com/sites/richardfinger/2013/09/30/high frequency trading is it a dark
force against ordinary human traders and investors/).
Also, there are few HFT type market making presence in securities that have a relatively high bid
spread. This is because for HFTs to make the markets in less liquid counters, it requires them to hold
long term unwanted positions in the security thus making the cost of market making high. As such,
long term investors would still be sustaining a high bid spread ratio when trading in less liquid
markets.
Avoiding HFT
In regards to liquidity detection by HFTs, funds have also begun to not trade in large open markets
when they know it s difficult to hide large positions, preferably instead in using dark pools an off
exchange platform operated by brokers. But this method would cause funds not to have the best bid

How to Motivate Staff

Given that sales people love to show off, turning the evening into a game show would be one way
to add additional spice to the event and also allow sales staff to earn more prizes. Instead of merely
an awards dinner, a portion of the evening could be devoted to a trivia challenge, in which
different groups of sales staff would compete as teams for cash prizes and recognition. Staging the
event would have several useful functions for the company. First and foremost, it would foster a
greater sense of team spirit amongst the sales staff. Second of all, it would revitalize a competitive
edge amongst the team members. The prizes would not have to be substantial, but they would have
to be meaningful, and the winning team members would be celebrated at the end of the evening.
The game show MC would be a funny personality selected to ask questions and to engage in banter

Patriotism And Blind Patriotism
Introduction
In the United States, it is not uncommon to see an American flag in someone s yard or on a
bumper sticker on a car. Americans are patriotic and this is evident throughout the year and
especially on Independence Day. The American flag, the pledge of allegiance, and the national
anthem are all national symbols. To many Americans, these symbols represent what the country
stands for which is freedom and justice for all. Patriotism is common in the United States and it is
this love of nation, the pride that one feels, and the loyalty to the country that many believe is what
being an American is all about. Patriotism is ingrained in this nation since its founding and
continues to be important today. Moreover, I will examine not only patriotism but also religion and
party identification. Although people in the United States are attending Church at lower rates; I
believe that religion has an effect on party identification and patriotism. I am especially interested
in the relationship between blind patriotism and party identification and how much influence
religious beliefs have on both. I hypothesize that if a person identifies as an Evangelical Christian,
then they are more likely to be Republicans and that there will be a positive relationship between
blind patriotism and Christianity. Meaning that if a person identifies as an Evangelical Christian,
then they are more likely to be Republicans and engage in blind patriotism. I think that this will be

The Effects Of Carbon Dioxide On Our Oceans
Our oceans absorb almost twenty five percent, each year, of all the carbon dioxide that human
activity emits into the air. Scientists originally believed that the idea of our oceans absorbing extra
carbon dioxide that is in the air was a positive idea, because it would deter global warming. But,
they soon came to the realization that this absorption process was having similarly disastrous
effects, as global warmingdoes, and it what happening to our oceans. This phenomenon, of our
oceans taking in the excess carbon dioxidefrom the atmosphere, leads to ocean acidification; a
term used to describe how our oceans are becoming increasingly more acidic over time. However,
just in the past 200 years, ocean acidification has increased by thirty percent, and this number will
only continue to increase due to our current rate of industrialization.
Carbon dioxide is one of the major greenhouse gases, and is one of the most common gases found
in the earth s atmosphere. Carbon dioxide is released into the atmosphere in mass amounts by
human activities and then absorbed by our oceans. The main way that carbon dioxide is added to
the atmosphere is by the burning of fossil fuels and deforestation. Increased energy composition
and with the industrialization age, beginning in the 18th century, has led to a drastic spike in the
burning of fossil fuels and therefore the release of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere. The main
emitters of carbon dioxide are cars, airplanes, and factories

teachers will then finish the puzzle column with as many different puzzle colors that are possible
that will help to explain the original puzzle piece. For instance, I might start with a who puzzle

How Does Macbeth Change Throughout The Play
In the play The Tragedy of Macbeth by William Shakespeare, it starts off describing Macbeth as a
loyal thane of Glamis and very loyal to his king. Throughout the okay, he will transform from this
loyal warrior to a very evil, power hungry tyrant. He did not reach this transformation alone
however, there were a few ugly sisters who helped with this transformation.
Obviously the three witches that are introduced in the beginning play a major role in what Macbeth
and his wife Lady Macbeth would do throughout the play. The play opens up with the Three
Witches being the first to talk, so we meet them very early and actually before anyone else. At
this point, they sort of set the mood of the play by displaying the weather and mood of what s
going on. One way they set the mood of the play with weather is by what they said in Act 1, Scene
1 in the first two lines, When shall we three meet again? In thunder, lightning, or in rain? .
The Three Witches are often referred to as The Weird Sisters by many of the characters. Throughout

Over time, a change has occurred from the typical horror story to a violent and bloody legend.

autopsy, something that was unheard of during this time period. He remained dedicated to his
work, but had a hostile, almost mysterious way about him.
Why is Ichabod portrayed so different in film than in script? The answer ultimately lies in
society. After watching twisted and bloody horror films, society gets hungry for something more
intense, more mysterious and unpredictable, with all of the blood and gore mixed in . People get
used to watching ordinary kidnappings and murders and wish for a more intense approach. This
is why the original Ichabod character was not portrayed the exact same on film as he was on
paper. The entertainment industry tries to keep up with this demand of society and gives to the
people exactly what they are asking for: A film based upon a familiar classic tale, but twisted with
mystery, confusion and massive amounts of violence.
Katrina Van Tassel was the girl Ichabod fell in love with in the story. She was described as a
blossoming lass of eighteen; plump as a partridge; ripe and melting and rosy cheeked She was the
girl that all of the young men were fond of. In the story she does not play an important part; she is
mainly known for her flirtatiousness toward the men around her and for being a wealthy, spoiled
farmer s daughter. But,

French Secondary Schools In The 1800s
During the 1800s it was no longer acceptable to teach religion in any schools, in France. In order
to continue spreading their knowledge and beliefs many Eudist Fathers such as Alphonse Parker,
Jean Marie Gay and the Archbishop Cornelius O Brien immigrated to places like Canada where
they could continue their teachings. They found the community of Clare and decided to settle
down there. One priest, PГЁre Jean MandГ© Sigogne was a man who strongly advocated for
Acadians to be able to attend institutions for higher education. Because of this he decided to create a

Norse Mythology Research Paper
What does every religion and culture around the world have in common? They all have some
form of divinity or gods. For the Scandinavian/ Germanic people or as they were sometimes called
the Vikings their particular brand of mythology is called Norse Mythology. Today almost everyone
has either seen or heard of the Thor movies. Although those are great movies they do not even touch
the surface of how deep and intricate Norse mythologytruly is. This entire culture of myth was
spread through words and stories of the Scandinavian Vikings to explain what and why things
happened in their world. This mythology spanned through many other cultures. Our days of the

Hel is a giantess and goddess and rules over Helheim, the realm of the dead (Norse Mythology

chaos. Fenrir and Loki break free of their chains and giants descend on Asgard. Thor faces a tragic
end going up against Jormungand, the Midgard serpent, each slaying the other. Fenrir goes on to

The Lost Tools Of Learning
Dorothy Sayers The Lost Tools of Learning, mentions medieval education tools as a possible
substitute for the modern day education system. Sayers states, if we are to produce a society of
educated people, fitted to preserve their intellectual freedom amid the complex pressures of our
modern society, we must turn back the wheel of progress some four or five hundred years (Sayers,
1). The Trivium, a medieval educationstyle would not only improve students education, but student
s ability to become critical thinkers through Grammar, Logic, and Rhetoric. With the return of the
Trivium to modern day education curriculums, students would once again become better thinkers.
Before we dive into why we should bring back the Trivium, understanding what it it all about must
come first. Medieval curriculum consisted of two parts: the Trivium (primary discipline) and the
Quadrivium (the subjects taught). The Trivium, as a whole, was, in fact, intended to teach the pupil
the proper use of the tools of learning, before he began to apply them to subjects at all (4).
Language composed much of Middle Age curriculum. For example, students were expected not
only learn words, but learn the structure of language: what it was, how it was put together, and how
it worked (4). Student s learned how to use language, make accurate statements, and learn to argue
and detect fallacies in said arguments. Furthermore, there was a passion involved with learning.

Natural Selection Affect Species And Their Characteristics
Finally selection this is after the species has separated, natural selection effects populations
separately. As each area is different the selection pressures are different, in which why their
characteristics are different as they are selected for their habitat. An example of selection includes
warrior ants, in which they have chemicals that tell other ants in their family not to attack. Some of
these ants have adapted and learnt to imitate the chemical signal from other colonies so they can
invade another colony and the workers wouldn t know (Your dictionary, 2015).
For the bird their beaks would have either originated from plant or seeds, over time as they
would have began to go off into other parts of the and they would have has to develop their beaks
to fit their certain food type. Other factors such as geographical barriers would have also affected
in how the way that their beaks changes overtime. After a while the birds would have been

habitats. This ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Another example of speciation is the North American butterfly, David Wright making a discovery
in 2002 that a new species of butterfly in which was large and colourful knowsn as Papilio. From
further research Davis soon discovered the apparent mixture in this species of two closely related
species. These being the Canadian tiger swallowtail and the eastern tiger swallowtail. These two

Les Miserables And The Power Of One Comparison
In the movie Les Miserables, directed by Billie August and the movie The Power of One, directed
by John Avildsen, two different characters show many magnanimous characteristics. In these two
different movies, as society throws these characters obstacles, they manage to be tenacious,
protective, peaceful, ambitious, and active. In Les Miserables, the character Jean Valjeanis illustrated
as honorable through his protectiveness, peacefulness, and being tenacious. For example, Jean
shows his protectiveness. He promises to protect the daughter, Cosette, of a woman he loved. Jean

when he asks: How will [the Zulu] ever be included if they can t read or write English? . PK has
the strong desire to teach the Africans English so they can be treated fairly. Soon after, PK

activeness. PK s final character trait is being tenacious, similar to Jean. The officials in South
Africa do not like when whites and blacks do activities together. PK teaching the Africans
English caused many issues with the officials. One day, the officials burst into the room PK was

official and died: Maria s death shattered me more than ever... I had no more will to fight... I had
to leave for Oxford tomorrow (Avildsen 17). Similar to Jean, PK holds tightly onto Maria s love

being tenacious when he says I had no more will to fight... . In all, PK is characterized as

King Henry VIII and The Reformation
Martyrdom. The selfish king. A young monk. All played a significant part in the Reformation.
Before the Reformation, the people of England were homogenous in their beliefs as they
followed the Christian teachings of the Roman Catholic Pope. The Roman Catholic Church is an
ancient Church, and changes have been made over centuries. Problems arose because of
corruption in the church such as the political power of the Pope and the concept of indulgences.
An indulgence can be described as paying a fee to buy forgiveness. At this time the Church was
very powerful and persecuted anyone with differing beliefs including burning people at the stake
for having what were supposedly heretical beliefs. King Henry VIII led the English Reformation
by introducing a new church and bringing an end to the power of the Pope. Because of his love
and study of the Word of God, Martin Luther launched the Reformation which reached all of Europe
through his 95 Theses. Each of these events working simultaneously sparked religious unrest and
contention; the Reformation began to materialize. The Reformation was a time of increasing
religious diversity and tolerance. In spite of centuries of violence, religious tolerance can be found
in England because of the lessons learned through the Catholic Protestant conflict during the
Reformation. King Henry the VIII increased religious tolerance in England during the
Reformation. From 1480 to 1530 before King Henry s reign, society in England was arguably

Persuasive Speech About Stereotypes
Don t be racist, be PewDiePie. He is Swedish, looks American, lives in the UK, has an Italian
girlfriend, and likes Mexican candy. The U.S. is no longer as racist as it used to be, as 200 years
ago, you were likely a slave because of your skin color. However, today many Americans are being
racist to Asians in a new way: stereotyping. Hello, I m Dexter Chen, and today I will be discussing
why you shouldn t stereotypeAsians because stereotypes aren t true, are extremely discouraging,
and because stereotyping is offensive in general. Before we get into this topic, let me explain what
stereotyping is. Stereotyping is judging a group, religion, ethnicity, or even gender, although these
stereotypes might not reflect on reality. This is caused by social media, the human tendency to
reduce complex things to simple things, and prejudice. You might be thinking to yourself: Gee, how
is stereotyping offensive? It s just a playful way of describing someone! If you are thinking that
doubtful thought, then pay attention, because I will show you why you shouldn t stereotype
anyone, especially Asians. First things first: Stereotypes are usually untrue. An average Asian
Americanstereotype would be nerdy, introverted, and smart. That stereotype isn t even close to
true. Imagine 4.4 billion people all being nerdy, smart, and introverted. That s literally not possible.

Why Is Seoul An Attractive To Tourist
Creative Project: Why Seoul is Attractive to Tourists
Is Seoul an attractive city for tourists? Seeing a nation s entire national history in a short time is
really difficult for tourists, because the national history is normally over 3000 years like South
Korea. However, Seoul has a great benefit in this sense. For instance, Seoul is only 605.28 km2,
which makes it one of the smallest cities among the major metropolises in the world, allowing
tourists to see most of the national history of South Korea in a single location. Only this advantage
of touring Seoul in a short time does not necessarily make Seoul an attractive city to tourists unless
it also has interesting historical artifacts and locations. Interestingly, Seoul preserves not only ...

In 1225, when Kojong was the king of Koryo dynasty (1213 1259), the Mongol Empire
demanded tribute from Koryo, but Goryeo refused ( The Koryo Dynasty. ). Additionally, the
Mongol s envoy (Chu ku yu) was killed, and this incident became an effective excuse to invade
Koryo dynasty. Hence, after the invasion of Koryo by Khitan, the Mongols invaded Koryo in
1231. The Mongol invasions of Korea (1231 1273 AD) consisted of six major campaigns lasting
from 1231 to 1259 AD. These invasions were tremendously ruinous and lead to the killing of
many civilians throughout the Korean Peninsula. As a result, the peasantry of Koryo suffered
much hardship. For instance, the Mongols burned everything such as houses of Koryo people,
the ripened grain fields. It caused the shortage of food supplies in Koryo, so the population had
to be declined and whole villages fell into ruin ( The Koryo Dynasty. ). Moreover, the peasantries
and defenders of Koryo were cruelly slaughtered by their conquerors (Mongolians). The most
suffering period of Koryo people was when Charadai (the general of Mongol) invade the Korean
Peninsula in 1254. On this occasion it is said the corpses of the dead were too many to be counted
and the entire region where the Mongols passed was reduced to ashes ( The Koryo Dynasty. ).
However, the government on Kanghwa did not protect the poor peasantry of Koryo, while they
only protected themselves. This miserable situation of Koryo people not only bred hostility toward
their government, but also dampened their desire to fight against the Mongols. This is the
resentment of Koryo

  • 2. The Contradiction of Chivalry and Courtly Love Essays The Contradiction of Chivalry and Courtly Love Two conflicting disciplines are prevalent throughout Arthurian Legend; that of chivalry and that of courtly love. The ideal of each clash throughout the medieval tales, and it is impossible to interfuse the two models for society. Chivalry is a masculine code, an aggressive discipline, whereas courtly love is based upon women their needs, wants, and desires. The consistent problem if Lancelot and Guinevere s adulterous relationship in different tellings of the affair relates back to the differences presented in chivalric code and courtly love ideals. The chivalric code speaks of brave conquerors waging war against the Seven deadly Sins(Schofield 5). The knight places all thought ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... On the other hand, though, there is the court conception that adulterous love is virtuous, despite the fact that engaging in such love, secrets become deceitful and deception a way of life. The deception of Lancelot to King Arthur by his affair with Guinevere is not viewed by Arthur to be adulterous. He does not get mad at Lancelot for the affair, rather the fact that he as a knight has broken the chivalric code; the code among knights that specifies actions to be honest, noble, and virtuous. Because Lancelot is a knight, his discipline is that of the knights the chivalric code. Because of this, he commits an act of treason with his relationship with Guinevere. Guinevere, being a lady of the court, abides to the dictates of courtly love. Courtly love is a code created by the court poets in the fourteenth and fifteenth centuries, under the promotion of Marie de Champagne. There is more of a social code than a written law that is adhered to. It is, rather, a fanciful trend that hits the courts of the nobility. Courtly love actually condones fornication, adultery, sacrilege, but represents them as a necessary element to what it considers to be virtuous(Denomy 22). This adultery is accepted, as it is believed that true love cannot be found through the politically arranged marriages that occur. One marries a husband for bettering land holdings, power, and wealth, and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Stefan Sagmeister Research Paper Stefan Sagmeister was born in Australia. He would attend and graduate from an art school in Dornbirn, Australia and would then go on to apply for graphic design at the University of Applied Arts Vienna.....At first, he was rejected. He observed that his drawing skills were not up to what the other people had been submitting, and for his final exam, he opted to take an abstract approach to the subject titled Green in the city . [http://www.designersandbooks.com/designer/bio/stefan sagmeister] He chose to make an active piece of art rather than something more traditional. Each of these categories are different with and affect people in certain ways. Single gene disorders, also called Mendelian disorders, are caused by a modification that occurs in one specific gene. An autosomal dominant defect occurs when there is an altered gene and a healthy gene that are inherited. An example of this type of defect would be Huntington s disease, an individual only needs one copy of this defective gene on chromosomefour to have the disorder. • 5. Portrayal Of Female Sexuality By Bram Stoker s Dracula Bram Stoker s 1897 Dracula is a novel that condemns liberated female sexuality, presenting it as volatile and threatening to the established patriarchal order of the Victorian Era. By examining the varying level of sexuality among Stoker s female characters and their narrative outcomes, the novel s attitude that female sexuality is hostile becomes apparent. In Castle Dracula, Harker meets three vampiric women whose monstrosity is presented as inseparable from their eroticism. Describing their fangs, Jonathan Harker writes I could see in the moonlight the moisture shining on the scarlet lips and on the red tongue as it lapped the white sharp teeth (52). Here, fangs serve as signs of these women s inhumanity and their carnality, this ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In extreme contrast to the lecherous she beasts met by her husband in Transylvania, Mrs Johnathan Harker epitomises the Victorian notion of a good woman. Rather than occupy the role of a physical lover, Mina is a maternal figure, nurturing all her friends with an innate and instinctive tenderness. To the bereaved Lord Arthur Godalming she opens her arms unthinkingly (275), resting his head on her shoulder as though it were that of a baby that some day may lie on my bosom (275). Despite this simile endowing Mina with power over Godalming it is an acceptable power for a woman to have, that possessed by mothers over their babes, rather than that by dominatrices over their victims. At the same time as being femininely caring, she is also intelligent and sensible, perceived as typically masculine qualities by the Victorians. Described by Van Helsing on more than one occasion of having a man s brain (281, 404) while also having a woman s heart (281), Mina is rendered virtually void of any sexual desire or attraction. Her womanliness centres on gentle compassion and the manliness of her mind ensures she is too sensible to give in to any subconscious eroticism. She alone of the novel s female characters survives, and ends happily married with one son. Unfortately, Mina s friend Miss Lucy Westenra shares none of the former s ... • 6. Native Hawaiians And Native Americans When Native Hawaiians welcomed Captain Cook and his crew, they began a journey that would lead to the crumbling of Hawaiian culture. After Captain Cook, missionaries continued to travel to Hawaii to, in their opinion, help the Hawaiian people. Native Hawaiians were viewed as savages and were seemingly given the best assistance from the missionaries. However, the help that the Hawaiians received led to them being demoralized and hurt psychologically and physiologically. In order to succeed, underdogs often need the assistance of others. However, too much aid from others can result in the help becoming the underdog s Goliath instead of their savior. The Hawaiians, being thought of as the underdogs by the missionaries, were given an overwhelming amount of help which led to the missionaries becoming the Hawaiian s Goliath. Before Captain Cook stumbled upon Hawaii, the Hawaiians lived in harmony with the aina, or the land. They lived by ahupua a, or strict land divisions that respected the natural landscape. Communities were created around rivers and water sources. The Hawaiians had a strict law system called the kapu. They lived with great respect to the land and believed in demi gods such as Pele, the goddess of the volcano, or Mau i, who was believed to have pulled the islands out of the ocean in order for people to live on the land. • 8. Loneliness in the Lady of Shalott and Mariana. The themes of loneliness, exile and escape from reality are important aspects that characterize the works of Alfred Lord Tennyson. During the 1800s, these aspects differentiated him from other Victorian poets, distinguishing him as one of the most popular poets of the Victorian era. In Tennyson s poems Mariana, and The Lady of Shalott, the artists express loneliness in their isolation from the rest of the world. The following essay will compare and contrast the displays of temporary and permanent loneliness of these artists through Tennyson s use of imagery, repetition, and word painting. Tennyson s repetition of dreary in association with various aspects of the poem, such as her life, the night, and the day, all build up to Mariana s claim, I am very dreary (81). This makes obvious to the reader the extent of Mariana s loneliness В– so has no mended her state of mind. As in The Lady of Shalott, the fluctuations of the general repetitions play an important role in demonstrating the major theme of loneliness in the poems. In this sense, repetition in poetry is a form of torture. In Mariana s case, her repetition of dreary and aweary is perhaps Tennyson s way of brainwashing the reader into relating to the loneliness of the artist. Similarly, in the Lady s case, the repetition of Shalott and Camelot show distinct barriers between the artist s world and the real world, in order to infect the reader s mind with feelings of loneliness from isolation. That said, repetition in these two poems acts as a self fulfilling prophecy which causes the reader to believe anything that is extensively repeated. In both The Lady of Shalott and Mariana, Tennyson also uses deliberate stanza structure in order to stress his key themes. Although the meter of the two poems differ from one another, Tennyson s purpose for doing so is very similar in both works. The Lady of Shalott is based on lines one to four and lines seven to nine of each ten line stanza being written in iambic tetrameter, and lines five and ten, most often occurring as iambic ... Three classes of Jews were considered political and religious leaders during the time of Jesus; the Sadducees, the Pharisees, and the Herodians. They were often referred as the ruling council at that time. The Sadducees were aristocrats which were wealthy and held powerful positions and were often called the liberal scholars of Christ s day . They were the ones who controlled the state locally, spoke to the state universally, directed relations with the Romans, participated in the Sanhedrin, prepared and drove the army, and gathered taxes. A striking similarity was that they all were against Jesus and His teachings. Those three most overwhelming, political, and religious gatherings wanted to kill Him. So they all joined efforts to do everything needed to reach their goal. They place all they trust in what each of them accepted as reality, insulting the critical fact that the main teachings was from God, through His Son, Jesus Christ. This work has revealed one customary conviction about these three religious groups their solid lack of regard for Jesus. Their unbelief drove them to impact God s people to have confidence in their conviction rather than the truth that lays in Christ alone. Perhaps the best lesson that can be learned from those three religious gatherings is to believe everything the Bible says, including the miraculous and the afterlife unlike the Sadducees. One should not treat traditions as having equal authority as Scripture, and not allow our relationship with God to be reduced to a legalistic list of rules and rituals unlike the Pharisees. Romans 14:12 says, So then, each one will give an account of himself to God. The Pharisees, Sadducees, and Herodians drove the all inclusive community of God into ungodly and religious beliefs. Problem Solving Instruction Questionnaire BFP2 Task 1 Bridget Clark August 21, 2016 A Written Project Presented to the Faculty of the Teachers College of Western Governors University Introduction Within mathematics instruction, strategies for solving basic operations are strong and systemic. However, students in the intermediate grades struggle with finding and using reliable strategies for solving word problems. The complexity of language that s used in a mathematical context makes it difficult for students to have a confident approach. Therefore, research is being conducted on how reading comprehension can be dove tailed with word problem solving in an elementary classroom. The Problem Solving Instruction Questionnaire was designed to collect data from a range of teachers to learn about math problem solving instruction in a variety of classrooms. Many of collectivistic countries, especially in Africa, are also monotheistic. In class my professor said that many years ago, the big part of the world were collectivistic, people cared more about each other and they were more family oriented. Currently, both cultures individualistic and collectivistic are so distinct. One is family oriented, and the other is self oriented. Looking closer, individualistic people are obviously humandoing because they are always busy trying to figure out what the future holds for them. They work tirelessly to achieve their goals which also take all time. In collectivistic culturealso, people are no longer different from individualistic when it comes to time orientation. Social Justice B Block Essay Hannah Somogie Social Justice B block December 20, 2014 Before waging a war, it is always a good idea to think of what the possible outcome could be in the situation; to look ahead before making an unalterable, life changing move. In many cases, different people, not just religious, think of the Just War Theory as a plausible cause to take a look at before sending troops to fight a war that deem not necessary to be fought. In the fall of 2001, September 11, it was a day in infamy, a day that will always be remembered. Terrorist members attacked the United States through different tactics, and led to an almost never ending difference between the nations. Just War is the theory that war must have a just cause, which means force may be used only to correct a grave, public evil. It must also have the right intention, which means that force may be used only for that purpose, only to correct a wrong doing. It must have legitimate authority: only public authorities and officers have the ability to wage the war. It must have comparative justice which means that the goods must outweigh the bads, no matter how bad the other side hurt you. The probability of success must weigh in to it. How it will be effected overall how much destruction is expected, how the goods are weighed out by the bads, etc. And finally, is it a last resort. The Long Term Effectiveness Of Prolonged Exposure Therapy Literature Review Existing controlled examinations of intervention efficacy specific to only sexual assault and rape are presently minimal in comparison to intervention examinations of combination or other types of trauma (Regehr, Alaggia, Dennis, Pitts, Saini, 2013). Psychotherapeutic interventions that fail to differentiate sexual assault and rape victims from other types of trauma victims may decrease the treatment effectiveness or inadvertently harm participants in this subgroup. Trauma associated from rape or sexual assault differs from other forms of trauma and treatment efficacy should be examined in this manner. Trauma from rape or sexual assault entail symptoms of PTSD, depression, suicidal ideations and sexual dysfunction. Individuals may also indicate feelings of vulnerability, loss of control, fear, shame, self blame, societal blame and stigma (Russell Davis, 2007; Regehr et al., 2013; Ullman Peter Hagene, 2014). This research proposal intends to explore the long term effectiveness of Prolonged Exposure Therapy (PE) at reducing distress and trauma explicitly for adult victims of sexual assault and rape. Prolonged exposure (PE) is a specific exposure therapy program that derives from Emotional Processing Theory (EPT). In today s society, language is constantly changing, therefore people are finding his slang hard to understand. Given that sales people love to show off, turning the evening into a game show would be one way to add additional spice to the event and also allow sales staff to earn more prizes. Instead of merely an awards dinner, a portion of the evening could be devoted to a trivia challenge, in which different groups of sales staff would compete as teams for cash prizes and recognition. Staging the event would have several useful functions for the company. First and foremost, it would foster a greater sense of team spirit amongst the sales staff. Second of all, it would revitalize a competitive edge amongst the team members. The prizes would not have to be substantial, but they would have to be meaningful, and the winning team members would be celebrated at the end of the evening. • 36. Patriotism And Blind Patriotism Introduction In the United States, it is not uncommon to see an American flag in someone s yard or on a bumper sticker on a car. Americans are patriotic and this is evident throughout the year and especially on Independence Day. The American flag, the pledge of allegiance, and the national anthem are all national symbols. To many Americans, these symbols represent what the country stands for which is freedom and justice for all. Patriotism is common in the United States and it is this love of nation, the pride that one feels, and the loyalty to the country that many believe is what being an American is all about. Patriotism is ingrained in this nation since its founding and continues to be important today. Moreover, I will examine not only patriotism but also religion and party identification. Although people in the United States are attending Church at lower rates; I believe that religion has an effect on party identification and patriotism. I am especially interested in the relationship between blind patriotism and party identification and how much influence religious beliefs have on both. I hypothesize that if a person identifies as an Evangelical Christian, then they are more likely to be Republicans and that there will be a positive relationship between blind patriotism and Christianity. Meaning that if a person identifies as an Evangelical Christian, then they are more likely to be Republicans and engage in blind patriotism. I think that this will be the case ... Scientists originally believed that the idea of our oceans absorbing extra carbon dioxide that is in the air was a positive idea, because it would deter global warming. But, they soon came to the realization that this absorption process was having similarly disastrous effects, as global warmingdoes, and it what happening to our oceans. This phenomenon, of our oceans taking in the excess carbon dioxidefrom the atmosphere, leads to ocean acidification; a term used to describe how our oceans are becoming increasingly more acidic over time. However, just in the past 200 years, ocean acidification has increased by thirty percent, and this number will only continue to increase due to our current rate of industrialization. Carbon dioxide is one of the major greenhouse gases, and is one of the most common gases found in the earth s atmosphere. Carbon dioxide is released into the atmosphere in mass amounts by human activities and then absorbed by our oceans. The main way that carbon dioxide is added to the atmosphere is by the burning of fossil fuels and deforestation. Throughout the okay, he will transform from this loyal warrior to a very evil, power hungry tyrant. He did not reach this transformation alone however, there were a few ugly sisters who helped with this transformation. Obviously the three witches that are introduced in the beginning play a major role in what Macbeth and his wife Lady Macbeth would do throughout the play. The play opens up with the Three Witches being the first to talk, so we meet them very early and actually before anyone else. At this point, they sort of set the mood of the play by displaying the weather and mood of what s going on. One way they set the mood of the play with weather is by what they said in Act 1, Scene 1 in the first two lines, When shall we three meet again? In thunder, lightning, or in rain? . Ichabod becomes the victim of the feared headless horseman after believing the superstitious tales of this spirit preying in the night. The townspeople looked upon Ichabod as a foreigner and responded with opposition to his notions. For example, almost immediately upon his arrival, he took a dead corpse and performed an autopsy, something that was unheard of during this time period. He remained dedicated to his work, but had a hostile, almost mysterious way about him. Why is Ichabod portrayed so different in film than in script? The answer ultimately lies in society. After watching twisted and bloody horror films, society gets hungry for something more intense, more mysterious and unpredictable, with all of the blood and gore mixed in . People get used to watching ordinary kidnappings and murders and wish for a more intense approach. This is why the original Ichabod character was not portrayed the exact same on film as he was on paper. Sayers states, if we are to produce a society of educated people, fitted to preserve their intellectual freedom amid the complex pressures of our modern society, we must turn back the wheel of progress some four or five hundred years (Sayers, 1). Medieval curriculum consisted of two parts: the Trivium (primary discipline) and the Quadrivium (the subjects taught). The Trivium, as a whole, was, in fact, intended to teach the pupil the proper use of the tools of learning, before he began to apply them to subjects at all (4). • 56. King Henry VIII and The Reformation Martyrdom. The selfish king. A young monk. All played a significant part in the Reformation. Before the Reformation, the people of England were homogenous in their beliefs as they followed the Christian teachings of the Roman Catholic Pope. The Roman Catholic Church is an ancient Church, and changes have been made over centuries. Problems arose because of corruption in the church such as the political power of the Pope and the concept of indulgences. An indulgence can be described as paying a fee to buy forgiveness. At this time the Church was very powerful and persecuted anyone with differing beliefs including burning people at the stake for having what were supposedly heretical beliefs. King Henry VIII led the English Reformation by introducing a new church and bringing an end to the power of the Pope. Because of his love and study of the Word of God, Martin Luther launched the Reformation which reached all of Europe through his 95 Theses. Each of these events working simultaneously sparked religious unrest and contention; the Reformation began to materialize. The Reformation was a time of increasing religious diversity and tolerance. In spite of centuries of violence, religious tolerance can be found in England because of the lessons learned through the Catholic Protestant conflict during the Reformation. • 57. Persuasive Speech About Stereotypes Don t be racist, be PewDiePie. He is Swedish, looks American, lives in the UK, has an Italian girlfriend, and likes Mexican candy. The U.S. is no longer as racist as it used to be, as 200 years ago, you were likely a slave because of your skin color. However, today many Americans are being racist to Asians in a new way: stereotyping. Hello, I m Dexter Chen, and today I will be discussing why you shouldn t stereotypeAsians because stereotypes aren t true, are extremely discouraging, and because stereotyping is offensive in general. Before we get into this topic, let me explain what stereotyping is. Stereotyping is judging a group, religion, ethnicity, or even gender, although these stereotypes might not reflect on reality. This is caused by social media, the human tendency to reduce complex things to simple things, and prejudice. You might be thinking to yourself: Gee, how is stereotyping offensive? It s just a playful way of describing someone! If you are thinking that doubtful thought, then pay attention, because I will show you why you shouldn t stereotype anyone, especially Asians. First things first: Stereotypes are usually untrue. An average Asian Americanstereotype would be nerdy, introverted, and smart. That stereotype isn t even close to true. Imagine 4.4 billion people all being nerdy, smart, and introverted. That s literally not possible. Everyone s different in their own ways. Are all Americans stupid and fat? Because that s what the rest of the world thinks ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 58. Why Is Seoul An Attractive To Tourist Creative Project: Why Seoul is Attractive to Tourists Is Seoul an attractive city for tourists? Seeing a nation s entire national history in a short time is really difficult for tourists, because the national history is normally over 3000 years like South Korea. However, Seoul has a great benefit in this sense. For instance, Seoul is only 605.28 km2, which makes it one of the smallest cities among the major metropolises in the world, allowing tourists to see most of the national history of South Korea in a single location. Only this advantage of touring Seoul in a short time does not necessarily make Seoul an attractive city to tourists unless it also has interesting historical artifacts and locations. Interestingly, Seoul preserves not only ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In 1225, when Kojong was the king of Koryo dynasty (1213 1259), the Mongol Empire demanded tribute from Koryo, but Goryeo refused ( The Koryo Dynasty. ). Additionally, the Mongol s envoy (Chu ku yu) was killed, and this incident became an effective excuse to invade Koryo dynasty. Hence, after the invasion of Koryo by Khitan, the Mongols invaded Koryo in 1231. The Mongol invasions of Korea (1231 1273 AD) consisted of six major campaigns lasting from 1231 to 1259 AD. These invasions were tremendously ruinous and lead to the killing of many civilians throughout the Korean Peninsula. As a result, the peasantry of Koryo suffered much hardship. For instance, the Mongols burned everything such as houses of Koryo people, the ripened grain fields. It caused the shortage of food supplies in Koryo, so the population had to be declined and whole villages fell into ruin ( The Koryo Dynasty. ). Moreover, the peasantries and defenders of Koryo were cruelly slaughtered by their conquerors (Mongolians). The most suffering period of Koryo people was when Charadai (the general of Mongol) invade the Korean Peninsula in 1254. On this occasion it is said the corpses of the dead were too many to be counted and the entire region where the Mongols passed was reduced to ashes ( The Koryo Dynasty. ). However, the government on Kanghwa did not protect the poor peasantry of Koryo, while they only protected themselves. This miserable situation of Koryo people not only bred hostility toward their government, but also dampened their desire to fight against the Mongols. This is the resentment of Koryo ...
