Escape Of Alcatraz Research Paper
John and Clarence Anglin along with Frank Morris put their names in history for being the only
people to have though lived to escape Alcatraz a federal prison built in 1950.The escapees of
Alcatraz had a well thought out plan because some think they are currently in Brazil, on their own
farm. They had a good way to distract the guards, and get out of the cell, and they poured themselves
over countless tide tables and ferry times.
No one suspected anything when John,Clarence, and Frank asked for some canvas, paints, and paint
brushes. The men were taking up a hobby, painting. But they were not painting just any old
painting, they were painting to cover up something (Hopkinson 2). They had painted what looked
like a wall the size of their escape ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Though Allen did not make it to escape he claims that he came up with this brilliant escape hand.
On the night of the escape he went down to the workshop and came back to his cell. He decided
not to go because he was afraid that the raft might not hold all of them. While looking for the men
in the bay they found a bag of letters and addresses but with no stamp. They also found a wooden
paddle that the escapees used.
So in conclusion the men could have escaped, and made it to either The Marin Headlands or
Angel Island. The only successful escapees of Alcatraz had a well thought out plan because some

Aristotle s Ideas Of Potential Infinity
Aristotle supported the idea of potential infinity but refuted the idea of actual infinity . He defined
potential infinity by saying if you are counting natural numbers, logic would tell us that we can
always add one to the previous number and that can potentially go on forever. He also said that we
could potentially use this logic in geometry if we imagined a line that extended beyond both points
with no recognizable end. On the contrary, actual infinityseems paradoxical because even if we had
an infinite number of things in a category then infinity would still be whole in a sense with a
beginning and an end. Aristotle s ideas were supported for many centuries ( Aristotle , n.d.).
The philosopher Zeno of Elea (495 435 B.C.E.) came up with the idea of infinite divisibility . The
basic concept of the theory was that you could take any object, cut it in half, cut those halves in
half, and so on until you reached the end of the divisibility process and were left with only particles,
or elements as he called them. The first conclusion he drew from this theory was that the elements
were essentially nothing, which meant that the sum of all the pieces made the whole object
nothing. The second conclusion was that the elements were something but that they had no size,
which meant that the sum of the whole object also had no size. The last conclusion was that the
elements are something and they do have a size. But that would mean that you would never reach

of the movie, which is followed by a description of Mr. Unger, his presenting problem, a mental
status examination of him, and a history of Mr. Unger s background. Next the paper offers a five

make major changes in his life. The fact that he lost his wife and nearly lost his best friend, as
well, were clearly weighing heavily on him. Mental Status Examination: Mr. Unger is
approximately 55 years old, is Caucasian American, and recently separated from his wife with
whom he has two school aged children. He dresses impeccably in pressed suits and polished
shoes. He is clean cut and shaven. His hair is cut short and is neatly parted to one side. He has a
rigid and stiff posture. He displays rigidity in his thought content which are manifested in
preoccupations with cleanliness and his family affairs. He is inflexible in his personality. His
wife recently separated from him and called him impossible to live with. During their
relationship he displayed a huge need to be in control by doing things such as re cooking a meal
she made because he felt he could do a better job or obsessive cleaning their apartment and
complaining when she was messy. While he loved her very much and had a sense that he was
annoying her, he is so inflexible in his personality that he was unable to make changes. Mr. Unger

The Main Four Factors And Components Of Social Perception
Social Perception Social perception is the process of interpreting information and making
assumptions about others in order to attach meanings based on what we can observe. Social
perception also refers to using social cues and available information to evaluate others. People rely
on social context when judging others as it strongly influence how we label people and their
behaviors. Social perceptions can also be flawed because observers can misinterpret others and
come to the wrong conclusion. It is important to understand the concept of social perception
because it allows individuals to recognize their own bias when forming impressions about others.
Understanding social perception may even help individuals overcome these challenges by
responding appropriately in certain situations. Moreover, it is innate for people to try to predict and
understand the behavior of others around them. People tend to evaluate others based on various
things and how we perceive people and situations can influence our attitude and behavior as a result.
The main four components that influence the social perception of others include observation,
attribution, integration, and confirmation. The first component of social perception is observation,
which is associated with three factors including the person, situation, and behavior. People normally
focus on the physical characteristics, context from prior experiences, and nonverbal communication
of others when collecting evidence to support their

Friendship Of Mice and Men Friendship is something that everyone needs at any time.
Friendship keeps us closely interacted with our friends, it keeps you popular, keeps you away
from loneliness. Friendship is an essential part of life to everyone. To me, I interact with my
friends closely everyday, we chat, we play around, and we work together on homework. For
teenagers like us, we like to interact with friends, with people at our age. Without friends, we won
t be able to do anything. We take care of each other, we tell each other everything, and sometimes
they are more important than our parents. Without a friend, every single one of us is by ourselves,

He never talks to anyone; he never wants anyone to talk to him. He thinks that he s a black, no

his little room. Although he seems like he doesn t want anyone to talk to him, but still at the

Lennie, he told all these things in his heart that no one knows to Lennie, he knows Lennie won t

needs a friend, even the people who say they don t. To George and Lennie, having a friend with
them is really lucky, but their luckiness didn t last very long. At the end of the book, George shot

The Decline Of Marriage And Family Life
The concept of a traditional American family has been profoundly changed over the last 100
years. Fewer marriages are forming, divorce rates are higher than ever, and childlessness is much
more common. The decline of marriage and family life seems to be the inevitable product of
progressive ideas and modern socio political conditions. Feminist and contemporary liberal critics
of marriageand family life appeal to individual rights, liberty, consent, equality, and love as they
seek to dismantle and undermine commitment to marriage and family life. However, some scholars
would propose that the actions and words of America s Founders show how to reconcile marriage
and family life with the same modern ideas of equality, individual rights, and... Show more content

In West s two books it is very clear that men and woman of the founding era placed family first,
the belief [being] that family integrity was indispensable for the public safety and happiness,
(Vindicating the Founders, pg. 85). Their beliefs were based on the fact that there are differences
between the sexes, differences that correspond to the traditional gender roles in the family,
(Vindicating the Founders, pg. 85). Today, this claim is easily dismissed by critics of the
Founders views. Marriage was defined by the Massachusetts supreme court in 1810 as an
engagement, by which a single man and a single woman, of sufficient discretion, take each other for
husband and wife, (The Political Theory of the American Founding, pg. 220). For the Founder and
people of the time, the right to marry [was] no less fundamental than freedom of religion and of the
press, (The Political Theory of the American Founding, pg. 221). Marriage was a natural right
practiced by a large majority and considered an important component of human happiness. And,
since pursuinift g happiness is a natural right, marriage is therefore a part of that right, (The
Political Theory of the American Founding, pg. 221). Better expressing this view of the time is

Assessment And Formative Assessment
Overview
the process used by teachers and students to recognize and respond to student learning to enhance
that learning, during the learning (Cowie Bell, 1999, p. 32) is one way to define formative
assessments. This definition stresses the idea of formative assessment being a continuous process
which should improve teaching, learning, and achievement. Therefore, when reflecting upon the
assessment strategies observed within my classroom to be most the effective in progressing
learning the one thing that comes to my mind is a formative assessment. The best way to understand
formative assessment is by comparing it and contrasting it with summative assessments. In this
essay, I will critically analyze how formative assessment may be used ... Show more content on

It is the evidence that has been gathered by a practitioner over a period to make a judgment about
where the child is now. It is conducted at the end of the course. It treats abilities as they were finite
and absolute. Whereas formative assessment is defined by Cohen, L (2010) as feedback for teacher
and student for their current learning achievements, strength and weakness so they know what to
do next to improve, enhance or extend learning. Formative assessments are an ongoing process of
observations they are administered throughout the unit and recorded daily. For that formative
assessment accepts that abilities can develop and change. Also, summative assessment doesn t help
individual students since it does not provide feedback on a particular aspect of knowledge or skill
within a subject area. Whereas the primary purpose of formative assessments is to improve
instruction and provide student feedback the students use the results in a formative assessment to
self monitor understanding. A study conducted by Black and William (1998) concludes that
formative assessment does improve students learning. Its cyclist approach observes

Essay On The Spanish Colonies In The American Colonies
The Spanish, French, and English all established major settlements in North America in the
sixteenth and seventeenth centuries. In each colony, settlement revolved around different types of
trade: plantations and mining in New Spain, the fur trade in New France, and tobacco and the
family farm in British North America. There were many similarities among these countries
approaches to settling, but also enormous differences. New Spain The Spanish were the first
European country to establish significant colonies in the Americas. By the 1570s, the Spanish had
established roughly 200 cities and towns in the New World. They had also built many cathedrals,
as well as the first universities in the Americas. New Spain refers to Spanish colonies in North and
Central America and the Caribbean. At its height in 1795, New Spain included Mexico, Panama,
several Caribbean islands, and most of the United States west of the Mississippi River. In these
territories, the Spanish started large projects to get all available resources. Throughout the sixteenth
century, the Spanish established sugar plantations in the Americas. The Spanish considered using
Native Americans as their labor force but, eventually relied on slavery. Though American Indians
were utilized in the Mexican gold mines, European diseases had decimated the American Indian
population, and the Spanish considered Native Americans too savage to be good workers. The
Spanish set up a bureaucracy to govern the large population of

Open Availability In Nursing Home
We live in a day and age where most Canadians do not concern themselves with the odds of them
being placed in a long term care facility due to the presence of our health care system, however, a
greater number of individuals should be more cogitative about the possibility of needing to be
put in a home and that not being an immediate option. According to the Ontario Long Term Care
Association (2015) over 40% of the long term care homes in Ontario are small, with 96 or fewer
beds. With the aging of the baby boomers within the next couple of years, 96 beds are simply not
enough. The hardship of leaving the comfort of one s home is stressful enough, without having to
worry whether or not there will be open availability in the local nursing home. This report examines

There are two simple solutions to this problem: open more long term care facilities and have
them subsidized or offer optimal home care services. No person should be without care,
especially when they need it the most, just as no person should be forced to stay at home in
unsafe circumstances or be stuck in a hospital due to there being no rooms available at a nearby
long term care centre. There are few individuals who choose not to go into a long term care
facility, however there are also many people who don t have the option to enter a home due to
absence of facilities. As a result of lack of long term care amenities, waitlists have skyrocketed.
With respect to the long term care facility called Riverview Gardens, located in Chatham,
Ontario, 9 out of 10 people wait 437 days for basic accommodations (Community Care Access
Centre, 2016). The worst part is that most of the people who are on the waitlist are elderly,
meaning that it could be dangerous if they are forced to stay home while they wait for a
placement. The Family Caregiver Alliance (2015) reported that approximately 63% of people in

Imagery And Symbolism In Paper Towns By John Green
It s a paper town. I mean look at it, Q: look at all these cul de sacs, those streets that turn in on
themselves, all the houses that were built to fall apart. All those paper people living in their
paper houses, burning the future to stay warm. (Green, 57)The novel Paper Towns , by John
Green is about a boy named Quentin Jacobson, who has spent a life time loving the
magnificently adventurous Margo Roth Spiegelman from afar, so when she cracks open a
window into his life, he follows. I think a major theme in the novel is seeing the truth in people,
and knowing that our view or idea of a person will never be enough to show all that a person
really is. Also knowing that people change all the time, and how we see or imagine them to be isn t

The next two quotes are from Quentin and Margo s conversation, when he finally finds her after
months of looking for her. During their conversation about a story that Margo wrote about them,
she tells Quentin, The grass got me to you, helped me to imagine you as an actual person. But
we re not different sprouts from the same plant. I can t be you. You can t be me. You can
imagine another well but never quite perfectly, you know? (Green, 302)The Grass in the novel
symbolises the interconnection between people. Although each grass represents a different
person, all grasses serve the same purpose which is to interconnect an entire lawn. Using grass as
a symbol helped to show that, even though we re all humans, (grass), were not the same persons,
we can t ever be or truly understand another person using the ideas and imaginations we have
about them, because these are not enough to show who a person really is. The next example of
symbolism that I ll be using to prove my thesis represents both individuality and interconnection.
This quote is also from Margo and Quentin s conversation, but this time is a quote from Quentin,
where he tells Margo, When did we see each other face to face? Not until you saw into my cracks
and I saw into yours. Before that we were just looking at ideas of each other, like looking at your
window shade but never seeing inside. But once the vessel cracks the light can get in. The light
can get out. (Green, 302) In this case the vessels symbolises a combination of both individuality
and interconnectedness, because each person is their own vessel, and once they begin to crack,
you get the sense of interconnectedness by being able to see inside each other, but if the vessel
doesn t crack, they stay in their individuality. Only once a person s outside shell breaks, you can
get to know them and see who they really are on the inside. But if it doesn t crack you ll

Korea Research Paper
Their primary goal was to once for all rid the Korean leadership from their dependency and
influences forced upon them by China and Russia. Once they took control of the peninsula they
intended to use it as a buffer against Russian, Chinese, and other Western influences.
In 1894, a rebellion broke out in Korea. The Chinese government sent 2,000 troops to Seoul. Japan
immediately occupied Pusan and Chemulpo Bay (Incheon) in Korea. China quickly gained control
of the uprising and asked Japan to withdraw their troops from the peninsula with the
understanding that they would do the same. The Qing s request met with resistance in Tokyo.
Japanese leadership expressed concerns over Korea s weaknesses and they worried that other
Western nations, especially Russia, would attempt to gain access to Korea. Japan asked the Qing
leadership to institute specific reforms in Korea. The reforms mirrored the Japanese Meiji styled

publication. Charles Dickens chose the main character, David Copperfield, to describe his own
life, thoughts and experiences. This is the reason why several readers describe this classic to be an
autobiography of the writer.

From 1842, Charles and his family began to travel throughout the world. Initially visiting Canada
and the United States. He later travelled to Italy, Switzerland and France.
After his tour of the US and Canada, he published American Notes which didn t go down well in
the US, being that, at that time, it was a relatively new nation and hadn t developed much of an
attitude or sense of humour to anti slavery. Alternatively it could have been that Charles expressed
an offensive attitude towards tobacco chewing, which, by his own account was practiced widely.
In 1845, Dickens founded an amateur theatrical company which he continued until the end of his
life and was to take up a great deal of his time. He later travelled with Wilkie Collins and Augustus
Egg, the former of which co wrote the play The Frozen Deep with Dickens.
In 1856, Dickens bought an estate that he had held a high regard for since childhood, Gad s Hill.
Hans Christian Anderson, visited the family there regularly until he out stayed his welcome.
First public paid readings began in 1858 and continued until three months before he died in 1870.
These readings became enormously popular, after all, no one was able to portray the characters
better than the author himself. These performances took place in many locations throughout

Syrian Refugee
University of Kansas
On September of 2015, the image of 3 year old Aylan Kurdi went viral. The toddler s lifeless
body on a Turkish beach had reverberated across the globe (Parkinson George Cosh, 2015).
Aylan s family had fled the brutal civil war in their native Syria and only attempted the boat
crossing after Canada denied their application of admission as refugees. The image led to an
astonishing outpouring of support for Syrian refugees (Hein Niazi, 2016). In this paper I will
discuss about the Syrian refugees Crisis, the characteristics of the of Syrian refuges crisis, how
similar or different it the Syrian refugee crisis is from other refugee crisis, how Syrian refugee
crisis affects individuals, families, and communities, what relevant research exists on the Syrian
refugee crisis, and what key strategies have been known to be useful in this crisis, how one
promote resilience in this crisis and how the social workers personal value affect him/her in
addressing this crisis.
Cause/Characteristics
Syria s civil war is the worst humanitarian crisis of modern time. The Syrian Civil war Began in
March of 2011, between rebel brigades and government force; economy and infrastructure is
destroyed (Library, 2016). Divisions between secular and religious fighters, and between ethnic
groups, continue to complicate the politics of the conflict (Corps, 2016). Additionally, the Syrian

Atomic Mass Of Pure Aluminum Lab Report
Introduction This experiment had two objectives: 1) to determine the atomic mass of pure
aluminum, and 2) to determine the masses of aluminum and zinc in an unknown aluminum alloy.
To fulfill both of these objectives, both pure aluminum and the unknown alloy were reacted with
HCl in order to produce a chemical and H2 gas. The reaction of aluminum and zinc with HCl are
found below:
2Al(s) + 6HCl(aq) вџ¶ 2AlCl3(aq) + 3H2(g)
2Zn(s) + 6HCl(aq) вџ¶ 2ZnCl3(aq) + 3H2(g) Both metal samples would dissolve into liquid HCl,
producing a H2 gas which would then displace grams of Hв‚‚O into a previously weighed beaker.
The increased mass of the beaker was then used to determine the amount of moles of H2, which was
subsequently used to determine the moles of aluminum reacted. Using the first reaction shown
above and molar mass ratios, the atomic mass of the pure aluminum sample was found, fulfilling
the first objective. A provided formula in the lab manual was then used to convert moles of H2 into
a mass fraction of aluminum in the unknown alloy, completing the second objective. Results for
both reactions were measured and calculated with the use of provided formulas found in the lab
manual.
Observations and Procedure Four trials were conducted in this experiment. The first two trials were
set up to ultimately record the experimental molar mass of aluminum, and the last two trials were
set up to record the percentages of aluminum to zinc in an unknown alloy. The purpose of two trials

On June 1, Jerry Lauro, an investigator from the Pennsylvania Department of Public Welfare, takes

The Mapp Vs. Ohio Court Case
The Mapp vs. Ohio court case took place in Cleveland Ohio when Dollree Mapp was unlawfully
convicted of a felony. On May 23, 1957 at 1:00 P.M., Police appeared at the door of Dollree, who
was currently living with her daughter from a previous marriage, and demanded entrance. They
believed that she was housing a bombing suspect within her home and that she was part of a
gambling crew. Due to the 4th amendment The right of the people to be secure in their persons,
houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated,
and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and
particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized (US

entrance. The fourth amendment requires for a search to occur or seizing of possessions, they

hours, the police laid siege to the house. Her lawyer appeared on the scene, and one of the
policemen told him that they now had obtained a warrant to search the house, but refused to show it
( Exclusionary Rule). The officers then forced their way into the house by knocking their doors
down and she demanded to see the warrant. Flashing a piece of paper in the air, she snatched it

Invasives versus non invasives: Not all alien species are invasive. Many, such as honeybees, may
be considered beneficial to the environment and the economy. If a species hasn t had any record of
introduction to new habitats, it is nearly impossible to tell whether it will be dangerous or not. The
cane toad was introduced to Australia under the mistaken impression that it would only eat the
insects they hoped it would. Garlic mustard was introduced as an herb. The best practice is to
simply import as few new non native species as possible. This also includes tightening all pathways
of introduction to prevent new introductions. Community outreach: A website will be created by

Queen Elizabeth I
Queen Elizabeth I was the most extraordinary leader in English history. She was born on
September 7, 1533 at Greenwich Palace. Her birth was not celebrated; instead it was a bitter
failure to her father King Henry VIII, who was expecting the birth of a son. Her mother was
executed for treason not long after her birth (Jokinen 1). After Henry VIII s third spouse Jane
Seymour died; however, Elizabeth was set back in the order of succession after Edward and
Mary by act of parliament. When she came into power, she had to clean up the mess that was
left by her sister Mary s five year reign. Mary had suddenly changed the national religion from
Protestantism to Catholicism, and she was not going to listen to any objections. She pitilessly
hunted down and executed Protestants who refused to convert. After Elizabeth I took the throne,
she switched back to Protestantism and restored religious order in England (Greenblatt 15).
Under Elizabeth, religion and nationality were nearly the same (Greenblatt 19). Her first act as
Queen was to form a loyal government: she replaced the Privy Council with eligible advisors
such as nobles, lawyers, and businessmen (Greenblatt 15). Although she had a fantastic board of
advisors, she did not allow them to decide her choices (Alchin 1). Elizabeth was determined to set
up a safe and steady government. During Queen Elizabeth s forty five year reign, England thrived
considerably. Her reign witnessed a large gain in literacy and accomplishments in the

Analysis Of Joe Turner s Come And Gone
Nothing takes away the dignity and self respect of individuals like stripping them of their human
characteristics and viewing them as property instead of people. The quickest way to make someone
lose his or her direction in life is to destroy the identity he or she worked hard to forge. Through his
use of symbolism and indirect characterization, August Wilson establishes his theme that finding
and maintaining one s identity is important in life.
The title Joe Turner s Come and Gone refers to Joe Turney, the brother of former Tennessee
Governor Peter Turney. In the late 19th Century, Joe Turney was responsible for transporting black
prisoners from Memphis to the Tennessee State Penitentiary, located in Nashville. However, he

Cause you forgot how to sing your song (II, ii, 68). According to Bynum, an individual s song is
synonymous with his or her identity. This is seen on a historical level, when one considers the
detrimental impact Joe Turner s chain gangs had on individuals: he broke each member until they
had all forgotten who they were. The loss of individual identity may allude to the fact that members
of a chain gang had to work together because they were chained together; they were no longer
viewed as individuals but were considered a unit. When viewed as a symbol for oppression, Joe
Turner exceeds chain gangs and is found in every level of the lives of African Americans; he is
the reason men like Seth are unable to further their businesses, he is the reason police officers
abuse their power and arrest innocent black men like Jeremy, and he is the reason families like
the Loomis fall apart. On a metaphorical level, the loss of identity could refer to the loss of one s
self in the sense of the values one holds dear. Regardless of the dimension in which the loss of
individuality is viewed, the central message remains the same: Joe Turner (oppression and the
historical figure) preys on the identity of African Americans and works hard to destroy it.
Besides symbolism, Wilson uses indirect characterization to describe the different generations that
are present in the play and show how each generation struggles to find and

Essay on The Development of Photography and Film
Art critic Robert Hughes once said, People inscribe their histories, beliefs, attitudes, desires and
dreams in the images they make. When discussing the mediums of photography and cinema, this
belief of Hughes is not very hard to process and understand. Images, whether they be still or
moving, can transform their audiences to places they have either never been before or which they
long to return to. Images have been transporting audiences for centuries thanks to both the mediums
of photographyand cinema and together they gone through many changes and developments. When
careful consideration is given to these two mediums, it is acceptable to say that they will forever be

This also holds true to the field of cinema and film.
In the world we live in today, anyone can pick up a handheld video camera and record their son s
soccer game or daughter s school play, but to really capture the beauty of an event takes true
talent. It takes the expertise of a cinematographer or director of photography as they are also
known, to capture the true essence of an event and scene. Thomas Edison even once said, By
faithfully reproducing and kind or type of movement, it [cinematography] constitutes man s most
astonishing victory to date over forgetfulness. It retains and restores the things memory alone can
t recover, not to mention its auxiliary agencies: the written page, drawing photography. ... Like
them, cinematography prevents the things of yesterday that are useful to tomorrow s progress
from sinking into oblivion; amongst these one must count moving things, which only a few years
ago were considered impossible to fix in an image (Neale, 54). A picture, whether it be a
photographed image or a filmed image is nothing when it has not been looked at with the proper
eyes. When expressed through the proper lens and eye an image can really be worth a thousand
words.
So the year was 1894 and the city was none other than New York City. It was then when the public
caught the first glance of Thomas Edison s Kinetoscope at work. With this invention, pictures were

Staying Young And Looking `` Beautiful ``
Staying young and looking beautiful has been a coveted notion throughout past cultures and into
today s society. In order to stay young, many anti aging interventions have been tried throughout the
years. Beauty has been an important factor throughout time. For instance, an obsession with
immortality is a central theme in a Babylonian legend about King Gilgamesh, who ruled southern
Mesopotamia in about 3000 B.C. (Post, 2004). Although this is a legend, slowing or even reversing
the agingprocess occurred in other cultures. Stated in, The fountain of youth cultural, scientific, and
ethical perspectives on a biomedical goal, In the third century B.C., adherents of the Taoist religion
in China developed a systematic program fro prolonging life and perhaps the oldest written record
of attempts to reverse aging is in an Egyptian papyrus, circa 1600 B.C., which provides instructions
for preparing an ointment that transforms an old man into a youth of 20 and claims that it has been
found effective myriad times (Post, 2004). The obsession for beauty and to stop the aging process
doesn t stop there. Such things as the use precious metals as eating utensils, grafts from the sexual
organs of animal species, cell injections from the tissues of newborn or fetal animals, consumption
of elixirs, drugs, hormones, dietary supplements, and the Fountain of Youth have all been attempted
to stop the aging process (Fishman, Binstock, Lambrix, 2008). These options and attempts may

Foucault s Panopticism
In Panopticism , Michel Foucault proposes an explanation for how power and discipline are
instilled and function within society. These ideas were created based on the purification and
partitioning systems introduced during the seventeenth century plague. Families were confined to
their households and failure to comply with daily roll calls, limited food rations, and immobility
resulted in death. The Panopticoncreated by Bentham provides further support for the concept of
constant visibility. This was an architectural arrangement that ensured constant surveillance and
individualization of inmates. The Panopticon was considered a source of automatic power because
possible observation and examination by guards created order among inmates. The... Show more

It appears that viewing people without their approval is a form of monarchy, assuring that no
one questions or fights authority. This attempt at securing power can be related to an essay
called Ways of Seeing by John Berger. One passage states that kings and queens only allow
certain historical artwork of the past centuries to be viewed by subjects so that their power is
never under scrutiny. Berger writes, The art of the past is being mystified because a privileged
minority is striving to invent a history which can retrospectively justify the role of the ruling
class . After a deeper analysis of Foucault s work, however, it becomes apparent that panopticism
is not protecting tyranny unlike the mystification of art. Foucault emphasizes that, as a whole,
we are all a part of the panoptic machine . He writes, Consequently, it does not matter who
exercises power. Any individual, taken almost at random, can operate the machine: in the
absence of the director, his family, his friends, his visitors, even his servants (187). In other
words, there is not a single designated operator, but rather we are all involved in observing one
another. It is a system of reciprocal power, a system of accountability. In fact, the guard in the
Panopticon tower is not reigning over the inmates. He is simply the designated observer whose
reciprocal power will be lost as another is shifted into his position. In everyday institutions the
designated authority does not have infinite power over their students, workers, or government
officials. The idea of panopticism is an effective and simple tactic that holds peers

For the saltwater plumes, a saltwater plume is a horizontally moving body of saline fluid that is
contained in the larger, fresh body of water. The plumes come about when there is heavy
retraction from the aquifers resulting in a saltwater intrusion. In order to keep the plume from
reaching any of the retraction sites, or wells, we must keep a close eye on the pumping amounts
at each well. For instance, Georgia Pacific shuts their machinery down for two weeks every

corruption being committed by others, due to fear and strictness of Saddam Hussein. The
educational system was excellent, as after completing primary and secondary school, you could
head to a well managed university. Prices were low in a convenient setting, reflecting a strong
economy. In fact, the averaged price for a automobile was equivalent to 1,200 IQD. A grain rice
could be bought for less than 4 IQD. The rate of owning a home didn t carry a burden. Overall, the

Eventually, the Kurds would be saved by the United States of America and the West, as they
would provide the no fly zone in the 36 degree parallel in the North, ultimately establishing a
autonomous region for the Kurds to operate their own quasi nation in that enclave. The other no
fly zone in the 32nd and deep 33rd degree axis in the South, that would protect the Shia majority
Arabs in this regions. The purpose of the no fly zone was to slow down and ultimately stop
Saddam Hussein s militaristic actions towards the groups.
The irony is that Saddam Hussien would fuel the fire to the long and already sectarian violence of
the nation, and officially split of the groups rather uniting the people

Real Estate Exchanges. 120 founding member, 19 boards and one state association meet at the
YMCA auditorium in Chicago, IL. In 1912, a group of local board secretaries formed the first

Rule. The Code of Ethics has seventeen articles, nine are for duties to clients and customers, five
are for duties to the public, and the last three are about the duties to REALTORS. For example, the
first article is When representing a buyer, seller, landlord, tenant, or other client as an agent,
REALTORSВ® pledge themselves to protect and promote the interests of their client. This
obligation to the client is primary, but it does not relieve REALTORSВ® of their obligation to treat

The action they have planned is the AEC Political Advocacy Competencies Work Group
considered development of a certification/designation for GADs. With input from a survey of
GADs and chief staff, and focus groups at the 2014 GAD Institute, the work group is not
recommending development of such a designation. Rather, the work group is proposing that there
be an emphasis on more professional development opportunities for GADs. With the core
standards reinforcing the need for strong advocacy initiatives at all levels of the organization, a
more comprehensive curriculum for GADs would benefit all. Along the same lines, the AEC plans
to expand the political advocacy and consumer outreach education opportunities for chief staff, so
they are prepared to lead an advocacy

The Asian American Community And Racial Relations
The Asian American Community and Racial Relations
The Asian American community history is filled with countless events of social and racial
injustices against the community that the common public does not recognize.
Today America claims that racial discrimination is becoming less of a problem but to the Asian
American community the situation never changed. As to this day people are facing discrimination in
the form of hate crimes from the rising numbers of white supremacists. In the form of verbal
harassment, physical abuse, threats of deportation, etc. They are also facing issues in the forms of
cultural and social barriers such as culture, language, and overall understanding. It is viewed in

After the events the immense population of Arabic, Pakistani, Bengalese and people from
Muslim majority countries despite their different backgrounds were looked to as potential
terrorists (Maira). According to Maira s, Youth culture, Citizenship, and Globalization the youth
from these countries are usually the one that will work and study at the same time but also, the
ones that will support America (Maira). An example is Sohali, an Indian Muslim immigrant,
who works and study but does have relations with the other communities. However, after the
events he like many other youths are being labeled as potential terrorists while also thinking if
they are the enemies. On another point of the attacks effects, it led to racializing citizenship as
Leti Volpp states that Muslium or Middle Eastern groups are now being labeled as terrorists and
non citizens (Maira 345). For all the Arabic, Muslim, and South Asian that are living in America,
after the attack they were forced to live their lives in fear due to racial and religious profiling of
being labeled as a terrorist. As these people are not only immigrants but rather people who are
coming to help support their family back home but also their hosting country. Which to this day are
still being categorized as terrorists due to racial and religious profiling that goes beyond the

Influence Of Soccer On American Culture
The Embracement of Soccer
The rest of the world lives and breathes soccer much like Americans live and breathe football.
The world embraces soccer because soccer brings people and their countries together. Nations
throughout the world come together for 90 minutes to see what nation will prevail so much so
that soccer is said to be the unofficial universal language throughout the world. But many people
in the U.S. have never watch a full soccer game in their lifetime. This is why U.S. will never
embrace the sport of soccer because of national dominance, money, and location unlike the rest of
the world. A lack of national team dominance within the U.S. is a major problem for the sport
soccer for many reasons. The first reason is due to the American culture about being the best. The
quote you have to beat the best before you can be the best is very true for the American culture.
For example the Super Bowl only awards the winning team a trophy. So for an American team to

The sport of soccer is heavily based around a tournament format. In other words, once a team wins a
tournament they are then labeled a successful team. There are two problems that the U.S. cannot fix
due to where it is located. The first problem is one tournament that the U.S. competes for on a
normal basis. The Gold Cup is a tournament that the United State competes in with other North
American teams and is hosted by North American nation. The issue with this tournament is there
are not many quality teams that compete in this tournament. The second problem with the location
is that the United States cannot compete for certain tournaments. A prime example would be the
Euros that are held in Europe every four years. The only teams allowed in this tournament are
teams that are located inside of the continent of Europe. Therefore one of the major limitations for
the growth U.S. soccer is

It appears that Shakespeare is justifying Macbeth s ruthless ambition and want to maintain power,
which puts Macbeth into darker depths by having Banquo and Fleance murdered, by his lack of
an heir. Similarly, the audience is provided by Snowball as the rival to Napoleon s absolute
power in his introduction to the character in Chapter 2. Orwell tells the reader he was a more
vivacious pig than Napoleon , setting him up immediately in competition His description goes
on to describe him as quicker in speech and more inventive . This is proven when he emerges
later in Chapter 4 as the brave hero of the Battle of the Cowshed after which we see him awarded
with the military decoration of Animal Hero First Class while the reader realizes Napoleon
seems to be conspicuous in his absence. Moreover, Snowball invents plans for the windmill and
Orwell outlines all his creative ideas in his committees and therefore Napoleon clearly makes
plans to expel him from the farm. The key difference between Shakespeare and Orwell s
presentations is that we witness Macbeth s thought processes and plans while Orwell keeps the
reader in the dark yet offers them clues that Napoleon is not to be trusted. It comes as no surprise
to the reader in Chapter 5 when Napoleon unleashes his personally educated dogs, who represent
Stalin s secret police, on Snowball. Both leaders maintain power by eradicating any competition.

Regulating Interest Rates as a Solution to the Recession...
Today s financial crisis has deeply impacted all areas of life not only in the United States, but also
the rest of the world. Company giants such as Circuit CityВ® and Merrill LynchВ® have fallen
victim to the financial crisis. One of the biggest industries the financial crisis has had an impact on
has been the housing market. Everyday newspapers, journal articles, and television media cover
stories regarding foreclosures around the country. To regain financial control of the world and
domestic economy, one must begin with the housing market. There are various areas of the housing
market, which allow for overhaul and maintain a prosperous future. Regulating bankinterest rates

By repaying their debt, this helps the banking industry, which in turn strengthens the economy. This
is a win win situation because everyone benefits from it: the consumer improves his or her credit
worthiness in order to purchase a home at a later time, the banking industry does not lose out on
loaned money in either the short or long term, and home buyers will be able to enter an
agreement with the lender knowing beforehand that their interest rate will not rise at any point,
thus making it affordable. For people who are currently in an ARM, the banking industry should
allow them to transfer to a fixed rate loan that allows affordability to the consumer without
jeopardizing loss of money on the banking industry. The banking industry should also be flexible
regarding requests by its home owners. Some people are beginning to realize ahead of time that
eventually they will not able to afford the house they are living in. One solution might be to allow
the flexibility such as lowering payments for a specified amount of time such as one or two years.
Affordability is the main idea to a homeowner. If a mortgage is affordable, most likely a
homeowner will continue to make his or her payments on time and not foreclose on the home.
For example, if a person is paying $1,000 per month in mortgage and is not able to afford this
amount, by allowing them to reduce their payments to $800 on a two year agreement, the bank will
temporarily lose

6 Scientific Methods
During my reading of the scientific method and how they are essential to invention and
innovation. I found six methods to scientific. Each method has a purpose to assure that you are
giving the experiment a fair test. The first method is to Make an Observation one should take
notice by watching or identify. The second method is to Ask a Question by doing this you can
find out the WH questions words. Those are the how, what, when, who, which, why, or where? For

English Essay We Are Virginia Tech
We Are Virginia Tech Speaking is form of art that can either be a natural gift or a practiced
talent. Much like there are several different ways a person can draw: cartooning, free hand, or
realistic, there are many ways in which a person can speak. Nikki Giovanni s speech We Are
Virginia Tech makes people cry, rejoice, and move on. A speech is one form of art that can
evoke these types of emotions from people. In Nikki Giovanni s poem We Are Virginia Tech,
which was spoken at a memorial ceremony for Virginia Tech shooting victims, she uses her tone
and a repetition of words to make her speech very powerful. The tone of her voice is very distinct,
she speaks with poise and confidence, while remaining remorseful but positive... Show more content

People in the audience who lost close loved ones in this disaster may not think the other worldly
tragedies Giovanni describes are of the same magnitude as this. For others though these images
she gives may help them connect with the loss some are experiencing. Speeches can affect
people in different ways, some speeches will inspire you, others will make you reflect on your
own life, some will teach you a life lesson, but Nikki Giovanni s poem was meant to bring
together a group of disheartened people. Giovanni s speech did not affect me as intensely as it
did to the families of the victims who actually saw her give the speech. Similar to whether you
are seeing a photo of a piece of artwork or seeing it in person, seeing or hearing a recording of a
speech it will affect you differently. Sontag says, real art has the capacity to make us nervous
(Sontag 759). This speech is meant to bring out the sadness, but also the hope for a better future
that people are feeling. Preston Risser said, her poem brought out the hurt people were feeling
and brought awareness to the situation at hand. As seen in the video people are either crying
after she is finished, or standing up with a newfound inspiration to stand tall and put this tragedy
in the past. The way a piece of art might make you feel does not have to be displayed by some
physical expression, it can be an emotion that is kept inside. In relation to how Nikki

  • 4. Aristotle s Ideas Of Potential Infinity Aristotle supported the idea of potential infinity but refuted the idea of actual infinity . He defined potential infinity by saying if you are counting natural numbers, logic would tell us that we can always add one to the previous number and that can potentially go on forever. He also said that we could potentially use this logic in geometry if we imagined a line that extended beyond both points with no recognizable end. On the contrary, actual infinityseems paradoxical because even if we had an infinite number of things in a category then infinity would still be whole in a sense with a beginning and an end. Aristotle s ideas were supported for many centuries ( Aristotle , n.d.). The philosopher Zeno of Elea (495 435 B.C.E.) came up with the idea of infinite divisibility . The basic concept of the theory was that you could take any object, cut it in half, cut those halves in half, and so on until you reached the end of the divisibility process and were left with only particles, or elements as he called them. The first conclusion he drew from this theory was that the elements were essentially nothing, which meant that the sum of all the pieces made the whole object nothing. The second conclusion was that the elements were something but that they had no size, which meant that the sum of the whole object also had no size. The last conclusion was that the elements are something and they do have a size. But that would mean that you would never reach the end of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 6. The Main Four Factors And Components Of Social Perception Social Perception Social perception is the process of interpreting information and making assumptions about others in order to attach meanings based on what we can observe. Social perception also refers to using social cues and available information to evaluate others. People rely on social context when judging others as it strongly influence how we label people and their behaviors. Social perceptions can also be flawed because observers can misinterpret others and come to the wrong conclusion. It is important to understand the concept of social perception because it allows individuals to recognize their own bias when forming impressions about others. Understanding social perception may even help individuals overcome these challenges by responding appropriately in certain situations. Moreover, it is innate for people to try to predict and understand the behavior of others around them. People tend to evaluate others based on various things and how we perceive people and situations can influence our attitude and behavior as a result. The main four components that influence the social perception of others include observation, attribution, integration, and confirmation. The first component of social perception is observation, which is associated with three factors including the person, situation, and behavior. People normally focus on the physical characteristics, context from prior experiences, and nonverbal communication of others when collecting evidence to support their ... • 11. The Decline Of Marriage And Family Life The concept of a traditional American family has been profoundly changed over the last 100 years. Fewer marriages are forming, divorce rates are higher than ever, and childlessness is much more common. The decline of marriage and family life seems to be the inevitable product of progressive ideas and modern socio political conditions. Feminist and contemporary liberal critics of marriageand family life appeal to individual rights, liberty, consent, equality, and love as they seek to dismantle and undermine commitment to marriage and family life. However, some scholars would propose that the actions and words of America s Founders show how to reconcile marriage and family life with the same modern ideas of equality, individual rights, and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In West s two books it is very clear that men and woman of the founding era placed family first, the belief [being] that family integrity was indispensable for the public safety and happiness, (Vindicating the Founders, pg. 85). Their beliefs were based on the fact that there are differences between the sexes, differences that correspond to the traditional gender roles in the family, (Vindicating the Founders, pg. 85). Today, this claim is easily dismissed by critics of the Founders views. Marriage was defined by the Massachusetts supreme court in 1810 as an engagement, by which a single man and a single woman, of sufficient discretion, take each other for husband and wife, (The Political Theory of the American Founding, pg. 220). For the Founder and people of the time, the right to marry [was] no less fundamental than freedom of religion and of the press, (The Political Theory of the American Founding, pg. 221). Marriage was a natural right practiced by a large majority and considered an important component of human happiness. And, since pursuinift g happiness is a natural right, marriage is therefore a part of that right, (The Political Theory of the American Founding, pg. 221). Assessment And Formative Assessment Overview the process used by teachers and students to recognize and respond to student learning to enhance that learning, during the learning (Cowie Bell, 1999, p. 32) is one way to define formative assessments. This definition stresses the idea of formative assessment being a continuous process which should improve teaching, learning, and achievement. Therefore, when reflecting upon the assessment strategies observed within my classroom to be most the effective in progressing learning the one thing that comes to my mind is a formative assessment. The best way to understand formative assessment is by comparing it and contrasting it with summative assessments. In this essay, I will critically analyze how formative assessment may be used ... Formative assessments are an ongoing process of observations they are administered throughout the unit and recorded daily. For that formative assessment accepts that abilities can develop and change. Also, summative assessment doesn t help individual students since it does not provide feedback on a particular aspect of knowledge or skill within a subject area. • 13. Essay On The Spanish Colonies In The American Colonies The Spanish, French, and English all established major settlements in North America in the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries. In each colony, settlement revolved around different types of trade: plantations and mining in New Spain, the fur trade in New France, and tobacco and the family farm in British North America. There were many similarities among these countries approaches to settling, but also enormous differences. New Spain The Spanish were the first European country to establish significant colonies in the Americas. By the 1570s, the Spanish had established roughly 200 cities and towns in the New World. They had also built many cathedrals, as well as the first universities in the Americas. New Spain refers to Spanish colonies in North and Central America and the Caribbean. At its height in 1795, New Spain included Mexico, Panama, several Caribbean islands, and most of the United States west of the Mississippi River. In these territories, the Spanish started large projects to get all available resources. Throughout the sixteenth century, the Spanish established sugar plantations in the Americas. The Spanish considered using Native Americans as their labor force but, eventually relied on slavery. Though American Indians were utilized in the Mexican gold mines, European diseases had decimated the American Indian population, and the Spanish considered Native Americans too savage to be good workers. The Spanish set up a bureaucracy to govern the large population of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 14. Open Availability In Nursing Home We live in a day and age where most Canadians do not concern themselves with the odds of them being placed in a long term care facility due to the presence of our health care system, however, a greater number of individuals should be more cogitative about the possibility of needing to be put in a home and that not being an immediate option. According to the Ontario Long Term Care Association (2015) over 40% of the long term care homes in Ontario are small, with 96 or fewer beds. With the aging of the baby boomers within the next couple of years, 96 beds are simply not enough. The hardship of leaving the comfort of one s home is stressful enough, without having to worry whether or not there will be open availability in the local nursing home. This report examines ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There are two simple solutions to this problem: open more long term care facilities and have them subsidized or offer optimal home care services. No person should be without care, especially when they need it the most, just as no person should be forced to stay at home in unsafe circumstances or be stuck in a hospital due to there being no rooms available at a nearby long term care centre. There are few individuals who choose not to go into a long term care facility, however there are also many people who don t have the option to enter a home due to absence of facilities. As a result of lack of long term care amenities, waitlists have skyrocketed. With respect to the long term care facility called Riverview Gardens, located in Chatham, Ontario, 9 out of 10 people wait 437 days for basic accommodations (Community Care Access Centre, 2016). The worst part is that most of the people who are on the waitlist are elderly, meaning that it could be dangerous if they are forced to stay home while they wait for a placement. I mean look at it, Q: look at all these cul de sacs, those streets that turn in on themselves, all the houses that were built to fall apart. All those paper people living in their paper houses, burning the future to stay warm. (Green, 57)The novel Paper Towns , by John Green is about a boy named Quentin Jacobson, who has spent a life time loving the magnificently adventurous Margo Roth Spiegelman from afar, so when she cracks open a window into his life, he follows. I think a major theme in the novel is seeing the truth in people, and knowing that our view or idea of a person will never be enough to show all that a person really is. During their conversation about a story that Margo wrote about them, she tells Quentin, The grass got me to you, helped me to imagine you as an actual person. But we re not different sprouts from the same plant. I can t be you. You can t be me. You can imagine another well but never quite perfectly, you know? (Green, 302)The Grass in the novel symbolises the interconnection between people. Although each grass represents a different person, all grasses serve the same purpose which is to interconnect an entire lawn. Using grass as a symbol helped to show that, even though we re all humans, (grass), were not the same persons, we can t ever be or truly understand another person using the ideas and imaginations we have about them, because these are not enough to show who a person really is. The next example of symbolism that I ll be using to prove my thesis represents both individuality and interconnection. This quote is also from Margo and Quentin s conversation, but this time is a quote from Quentin, where he tells Margo, When did we see each other face to face? Not until you saw into my cracks and I saw into yours. Before that we were just looking at ideas of each other, like looking at your window shade but never seeing inside. But once the vessel cracks the light can get in. The light can get out. (Green, 302) In this case the vessels symbolises a combination of both individuality and interconnectedness, because each person is their own vessel, and once they begin to crack, you get the sense of interconnectedness by being able to see inside each other, but if the vessel doesn t crack, they stay in their individuality. Only once a person s outside shell breaks, you can get to know them and see who they really are on the inside. But if it doesn t crack you ll ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 16. Korea Research Paper Their primary goal was to once for all rid the Korean leadership from their dependency and influences forced upon them by China and Russia. Once they took control of the peninsula they intended to use it as a buffer against Russian, Chinese, and other Western influences. In 1894, a rebellion broke out in Korea. The Chinese government sent 2,000 troops to Seoul. Japan immediately occupied Pusan and Chemulpo Bay (Incheon) in Korea. China quickly gained control of the uprising and asked Japan to withdraw their troops from the peninsula with the understanding that they would do the same. The Qing s request met with resistance in Tokyo. • 23. Atomic Mass Of Pure Aluminum Lab Report Introduction This experiment had two objectives: 1) to determine the atomic mass of pure aluminum, and 2) to determine the masses of aluminum and zinc in an unknown aluminum alloy. To fulfill both of these objectives, both pure aluminum and the unknown alloy were reacted with HCl in order to produce a chemical and H2 gas. The reaction of aluminum and zinc with HCl are found below: 2Al(s) + 6HCl(aq) вџ¶ 2AlCl3(aq) + 3H2(g) 2Zn(s) + 6HCl(aq) вџ¶ 2ZnCl3(aq) + 3H2(g) Both metal samples would dissolve into liquid HCl, producing a H2 gas which would then displace grams of Hв‚‚O into a previously weighed beaker. The increased mass of the beaker was then used to determine the amount of moles of H2, which was subsequently used to determine the moles of aluminum reacted. Using the first reaction shown above and molar mass ratios, the atomic mass of the pure aluminum sample was found, fulfilling the first objective. A provided formula in the lab manual was then used to convert moles of H2 into a mass fraction of aluminum in the unknown alloy, completing the second objective. Results for both reactions were measured and calculated with the use of provided formulas found in the lab manual. Observations and Procedure Four trials were conducted in this experiment. Her birth was not celebrated; instead it was a bitter failure to her father King Henry VIII, who was expecting the birth of a son. Her mother was executed for treason not long after her birth (Jokinen 1). After Henry VIII s third spouse Jane Seymour died; however, Elizabeth was set back in the order of succession after Edward and Mary by act of parliament. When she came into power, she had to clean up the mess that was left by her sister Mary s five year reign. Mary had suddenly changed the national religion from Protestantism to Catholicism, and she was not going to listen to any objections. She pitilessly hunted down and executed Protestants who refused to convert. After Elizabeth I took the throne, she switched back to Protestantism and restored religious order in England (Greenblatt 15). Under Elizabeth, religion and nationality were nearly the same (Greenblatt 19). Her first act as Queen was to form a loyal government: she replaced the Privy Council with eligible advisors such as nobles, lawyers, and businessmen (Greenblatt 15). Although she had a fantastic board of advisors, she did not allow them to decide her choices (Alchin 1). Elizabeth was determined to set up a safe and steady government. Analysis Of Joe Turner s Come And Gone Nothing takes away the dignity and self respect of individuals like stripping them of their human characteristics and viewing them as property instead of people. The quickest way to make someone lose his or her direction in life is to destroy the identity he or she worked hard to forge. Through his use of symbolism and indirect characterization, August Wilson establishes his theme that finding and maintaining one s identity is important in life. The title Joe Turner s Come and Gone refers to Joe Turney, the brother of former Tennessee Governor Peter Turney. In the late 19th Century, Joe Turney was responsible for transporting black prisoners from Memphis to the Tennessee State Penitentiary, located in Nashville. However, he would often ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Cause you forgot how to sing your song (II, ii, 68). According to Bynum, an individual s song is synonymous with his or her identity. This is seen on a historical level, when one considers the detrimental impact Joe Turner s chain gangs had on individuals: he broke each member until they had all forgotten who they were. The loss of individual identity may allude to the fact that members of a chain gang had to work together because they were chained together; they were no longer viewed as individuals but were considered a unit. When viewed as a symbol for oppression, Joe Turner exceeds chain gangs and is found in every level of the lives of African Americans; he is the reason men like Seth are unable to further their businesses, he is the reason police officers abuse their power and arrest innocent black men like Jeremy, and he is the reason families like the Loomis fall apart. On a metaphorical level, the loss of identity could refer to the loss of one s self in the sense of the values one holds dear. Regardless of the dimension in which the loss of individuality is viewed, the central message remains the same: Joe Turner (oppression and the historical figure) preys on the identity of African Americans and works hard to destroy it. Besides symbolism, Wilson uses indirect characterization to describe the different generations that are present in the play and show how each generation struggles to find and ... It appears that viewing people without their approval is a form of monarchy, assuring that no one questions or fights authority. This attempt at securing power can be related to an essay called Ways of Seeing by John Berger. One passage states that kings and queens only allow certain historical artwork of the past centuries to be viewed by subjects so that their power is never under scrutiny. Berger writes, The art of the past is being mystified because a privileged minority is striving to invent a history which can retrospectively justify the role of the ruling class . After a deeper analysis of Foucault s work, however, it becomes apparent that panopticism is not protecting tyranny unlike the mystification of art. Foucault emphasizes that, as a whole, we are all a part of the panoptic machine . He writes, Consequently, it does not matter who exercises power. Any individual, taken almost at random, can operate the machine: in the absence of the director, his family, his friends, his visitors, even his servants (187). In other words, there is not a single designated operator, but rather we are all involved in observing one another. It is a system of reciprocal power, a system of accountability. In fact, the guard in the Panopticon tower is not reigning over the inmates. He is simply the designated observer whose reciprocal power will be lost as another is shifted into his position. In everyday institutions the designated authority does not have infinite power over their students, workers, or government officials. The plumes come about when there is heavy retraction from the aquifers resulting in a saltwater intrusion. In order to keep the plume from reaching any of the retraction sites, or wells, we must keep a close eye on the pumping amounts at each well. For instance, Georgia Pacific shuts their machinery down for two weeks every summer, this causes the plume to shift from the middle of two well sites to the well site being used the most. This can cause the quality of the water to lessen as the taste will become salty and bitter. While there is an unlimited supply of water coming from the aquifer, the rate at which the water is being retracted can cause the water to become tainted with plumes, among many other problems and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It appears that Shakespeare is justifying Macbeth s ruthless ambition and want to maintain power, which puts Macbeth into darker depths by having Banquo and Fleance murdered, by his lack of an heir. Similarly, the audience is provided by Snowball as the rival to Napoleon s absolute power in his introduction to the character in Chapter 2. Orwell tells the reader he was a more vivacious pig than Napoleon , setting him up immediately in competition His description goes on to describe him as quicker in speech and more inventive . This is proven when he emerges later in Chapter 4 as the brave hero of the Battle of the Cowshed after which we see him awarded with the military decoration of Animal Hero First Class while the reader realizes Napoleon seems to be conspicuous in his absence. Moreover, Snowball invents plans for the windmill and Orwell outlines all his creative ideas in his committees and therefore Napoleon clearly makes plans to expel him from the farm. The key difference between Shakespeare and Orwell s presentations is that we witness Macbeth s thought processes and plans while Orwell keeps the reader in the dark yet offers them clues that Napoleon is not to be trusted. It comes as no surprise to the reader in Chapter 5 when Napoleon unleashes his personally educated dogs, who represent Stalin s secret police, on Snowball. Both leaders maintain power by eradicating any competition. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This is a win win situation because everyone benefits from it: the consumer improves his or her credit worthiness in order to purchase a home at a later time, the banking industry does not lose out on loaned money in either the short or long term, and home buyers will be able to enter an agreement with the lender knowing beforehand that their interest rate will not rise at any point, thus making it affordable. For people who are currently in an ARM, the banking industry should allow them to transfer to a fixed rate loan that allows affordability to the consumer without jeopardizing loss of money on the banking industry. The banking industry should also be flexible regarding requests by its home owners. Some people are beginning to realize ahead of time that eventually they will not able to afford the house they are living in. One solution might be to allow the flexibility such as lowering payments for a specified amount of time such as one or two years. Affordability is the main idea to a homeowner.
