As direct competition, Cetaphil Moisturising Lotion contains key ingredients such as emollients and
humectants to prevent moisture loss from the skin (Galderma Laboratories 2013). Other, more indirect
competition includes products such as Dove s Deep Moisture Body wash that boasts a
NutriumMoisture formula as a two in one moisturiser and body wash. 2.4 Positioning Against
Competition The Daily Moisturising Lotion is positioned as a tonic for sensitive skin, through the
references to the use of colloidal oatmeal as the ingredient based point of difference (Johnson amp;
Johnson, 2014). The competition, Cetaphil Moisturising Lotion, is similar in that it claims to be a
strong, gentle moisturiser for dry skin, with a corresponding ingredient based point of difference
(Galderma Laboratories 2013). This ingredient based point of difference, however, isn t promoted to
the same degree, as seen in commercials (TV Commercial Spot Cetaphil The Genty Power Gentle
Skincare Products 2014). Though the Aveeno Daily Moisturising Lotion and Olay s Complete Defense
Daily UV Moisturising Lotion SPF30 share points of parity such as their daily use positioning, the
specification of the Olay lotion s SPF relegates the Aveeno to a somewhat all round lotion. It is,
however, the ingredients that take centre stage in the positioning of Aveeno s Daily Moisturising

Theme Of Guilt In Atonement
Both writers of the books Atonement and The Remains of The Day investigate the manners by which
the characters are responsible for enabling their imagination to dominate their perception of reality.
This then brings severe consequences that shape the rest of their stories throughout the novels. Regret
and guilt are depicted throughout both novels by the successful utilization of dialect that is used in the
books in the portrayal of emotions, or lack of, which also showed the tension between the characters.
With close analysis of the characters in the novel, it is questionable regardless of whether the
characters feel regretful or guilty for any of their actions throughout the novel. Nearing the climax of
the novels; Briony and Stevens set goals ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In Atonement, Briony is the guiltiest because of her abuse of her imagination and therefore becomes a
victim to the controlling demon the invades her mind. However, her guilt is not made excessively
obvious up until the end section of the novel where it is uncovered that she becomes a nurse. Briony s
guilt is shown through the way that she endeavours to keep on working for her fallen sister as opposed
to following her own desires. The fountain scene is an excellent example of how Briony s desire for a
much more romanticised world would affect her to think irrationally, while watching the interactions
amongst Cecilia and Robbie, Briony s train of thought switches rapidly between a proposal of
marriage to Robbie being in control of Cecilia and issuing a command which Cecilia dared not to obey
. The verb command would have stunned Briony to a high degree as Cecilia was of a higher class than
Robbie which was very

Descartes Discourse On Method Summary
The mythical phoenix is born in the ashes of its mother once she has been consumed in flame,
becoming stronger than she ever was. In Discourse on Method, Descartes hopes to destroy the
conventional understanding of philosophy that has been followed throughout the ages, and in doing so
establish his own philosophy as the new convention in the ashes of the old philosophy. In this paper, I
will present Descartes findings of instability in philosophy and distaste for the way people learn as his
motivation for undertaking this reconstruction of his thoughts, finding a firm and lasting basis for the
sciences as his end goal for the reconstruction, and his rules for conducting thought and code of doubt
as the way by which he hopes to achieve ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Descartes takes this idea and applies it to book learning, and he concludes that book learning is
composed and enlarged little by little from the opinions of many different persons. However, he
believes that book learning does not draw nearly as close to the truth as the simple reasonings that a
man of good sense can naturally make about the things he encounters. Descartes believes that one
should trust in their reason rather than in their knowledge which has been collected from the opinions
of others. Secondly, Descartes, by embarking on this reconstruction of his thoughts, hopes to find a
stable basis for the sciences. Since Descartes was trained as a mathematician, he likes to find proofs
for ideas, so that he can know them with absolute certainty. Initially, he believes philosophy to be the
basis for the sciences insofar as they [the sciences] borrow their principles from philosophy. However,
he concludes that philosophy cannot be the basis for the sciences, saying, one could not have built
anything upon such unstable foundations. Now, he has to find a stronger foundation for the sciences
and it is only through the reconstruction of his thought that he is able to do this. Lastly, Descartes uses
two methods to carry out the reconstruction of his thoughts. The first method is his four rules for
conducting thought, which will characterize the way that he will look at the world during this period
of reconstruction. The first rule is

Human Control Project Analysis
Today, numerous individuals are persuaded that the end of the dark wolf was a blunder, as well as a
drawback to the personal satisfaction in this nation. There has been an open objection to redress the
circumstance made by the lack of awareness of our progenitors. Then again, in trying to address a
circumstance made by the human impulse to control nature, it is significant to recognize the amount of
human impedance is fundamental. Human control must be tempered by an appreciation and
restriction. Projects intended for the insurance and rebuilding of untamed life must reflect respect for
the normal request instead of predominance over it. The outcomes of human activities including the
disposal of the dim wolf have been particularly intense in Yellowstone National Park, where the
absence of a characteristic predator has brought about the overpopulation of buffalo, deer, and elk. As
indicated by Sharon Begley of Newsweek magazine, Missing a characteristic predator, a great many
the ungulates have starved amid intense winters, and there has been no determination weight to keep
deer quick and moose effective . Another issue is more inconspicuous. As Ms. Begley ... Show more

Nonetheless, there are inborn issues in catching and moving wolves effectively. Indeed, even scholars
for the project concede that the most obvious test is to beat the common inclination of wolves to
attempt to return home. The main answer for this quandary is to pen the creatures up for a time frame
until they get used to their new environment. Tragically, at whatever point wolves are penned, there is
a threat that they will lose some of their ferocity. Be that as it may, such measures have as of now been
fundamental on account of one of the wolf families in Yellowstone. Taking after the illicit slaughtering
of the overwhelming male in one of the packs, a late redesign

Analysis Of Blair Witch Project
Semiotic Analysis on Blair Witch Project Blair Witch Project is regarded the first of its time, a horror
film in a documentary style movie. The release of the film in 1999 marked a new phase in the creation
of films. The Blair Witch Project set a benchmark for production of films of different genres,
especially for horror movies. The fixtures of the genre, horror films, have long being characterized by
the presence of graphical violence and torture by villains like monsters, ghosts, demons and madmen
or psychopaths. Prior to the release of the Blair Witch Project, most horror movies were developing in
many ways especially in the storyline and justifications of the supernatural characters and scenes.
Blair Witch Project was very special in many ways, using mystery, suspense and foreshadowing to
create the intense fear and scare in the audience. Since the 1980s, the horror movies have changed
dramatically. With every new experience through innovation, in the film industry, the horror films are
expected to change with time, and in a whole new dimension. The film Blair Witch Project, produced
in 1999, has had an incredible impact and influence, which very few films have had over the years. It
is arguably among the scariest and most frightening horror film to date. It is a one of a kind on the
basis that it being a horror film, it does not possess the characteristics of generally known horror
movies. Throughout the whole film, we find no violence content like torture or graphic

Reflection On My Math Class
Since starting this class, I feel as though my background knowledge of math would have been enough
for me to feel comfortable in the classroom but, because of the readings and in class tasks with my
peers I ve become more knowledgeable on many terms and practices of math.
It is clear that within the classroom of my peers we all complete a math problem differently. Some
students answer questions the completely different way than I do but, we get the same answers. For
example, when we were asked to add simple math numbers, two of the four of us thought the same
way. While to other people found different ways to get the answer. Amongst the four of us there were
three different ways to solve one simple addition question. This small task opened my mind
completely. I can see that was in my group of four people, there were three strategies to answer one
question. I can only imagine a number of ways a class of 30 students comes up with. This will
enhance my understanding as a teacher because I know that every student does not think the same and
there is more than one right way to solve a question. This class has also shown me that using
manipulatives is one of the best tools to enhance the students understanding. Using manipulatives will
not only help the students, but it will help me as a teacher to understand the student s steps in solving
questions. The best example in class was when my group was given coloured bears and asked to show

Analysis Of My Papa s Waltz By Theodore Roethke
Theodore Roethke s poem, My Papa s Waltz has spurred passionate academic debates among
professors, scholars, and students; the imagery, context, and diction of the poem clearly supports the
interpretation that Roethke writes My Papa s Waltz reflecting on his relationship with his father. A
relationship in which, notably, causes harm to the author. However, through all the nights Roethke
spent in pain and in horror, his love for his father still exists. While many people believe that the
author tells a lovely story of a fond memory with his father, it is not possible that the use of negative
imagery and negative diction does not play a role in the story told. My Papa s Waltz tells the story of a
small boy who is abused by his ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Furthermore, the negative imagery in My Papa s Waltz strengthens the interpretation that the poem is
about abuse. Throughout the entire poem the author noticeably creates multiple negative images.
Roethke mentions how he hung on like death and how his father held [his] wrist not his hand. From
these two lines we can already see how Roethke is in some kind of danger or trouble, for he hung on
like death which serves to explain how he barely survived he had much trouble staying on. His father
also does not hold his hand; he holds his wrist, as if he were getting his son in trouble. If his father
would to waltz, as in dance with his son, he would hold him by the hand not the wrist. Further,
Roethke mentions his mother whose countenance could not unfrown itself. Many argue the author
implies that his mother frowns at the sight of the pans falling in the kitchen. Analyzing closely, one
can conclude that it is unreasonable for a mother to just frown and watch her pans fall logically, she
would react in some other form by trying to stop it. Since the author does not mention any movement,
it is reasonable to believe that the mother just stands there with a frown because her eyes come across
a horrific image that she freezes in fear and can only frown upon this sight. Roethke s father hurts and
attacks his son in some form and Roethke tried to fight back and

The Crucible And The Handmaids Tale Analysis
By exploring settings societies governed by political and social patriarchies, both Arthur Miller s the
Crucible and Margaret Atwood s The Handmaids Tale provide commentary on women s role in
society. Both texts are set against a backdrop in which women are seen as a second class and are
subject to male dominance. The similarities in the two texts lie within their separate discussions of
gender roles in society, but they differ on the intricacies of this. From a theocratic standpoint, the play
and the novel dissect the faults in an oppressive society, with Miller making it abundantly clear that it
can in fact be challenged instead of conformed to. Atwood also somewhat entertains this concept, but
both writers have different perceptions on identity and individuality in worlds that don t seem much
unlike our own. The consequences of a patriarchal, theocratic state based on the foundation of
Puritanism is first challenged by The Crucible, which evaluates its effect on the women in its society.
This specific form of religion seemed unhealthy to Miller, as in the search for the perfect people,
Puritans became obsessed with seeking out the damned and condemning them. Perfection was seen as
a responsibility to these people as they wanted to ensure the Devil could not harm them, and the
playwright attributes this paranoia as one of the main reasons behind the mass hysteria in Salem that
followed. The townspeople were constantly looking for evil in everything that went wrong, and

Tiberius Claudius Nero Caesar Essay
Tiberius Claudius Nero Caesar
Tiberius Claudius Nero Caesar was born in Rome on November 16, 42 BC.
Four years after his birth his mother divorced his father and married Octavian.
Tiberius was a descendant of the Claudian family who moved to Rome shortly after the foundation of
the city. The Claudians did not respect others who were not of noble ancestry.
After Tiberius was four he was raised to be a loyal servant of Augustus.
Tiberius is associated with Augustus for 22 years. Augustus had Tiberius carefully educated. Augustus

Tiberius began to take firm steps against foreign beliefs because he thought they were a threat to
traditional Roman values. He expelled followers of the Egyptian and Jewish religions from Rome and
banished astrologers. Tiberius believed in astrology himself but probably feared a possible conspiracy
inspired by horoscopes.
Tiberius established a central camp for the Praetorian guard in Rome so the military could be quickly
called to put down civilian violence. Civilian riots were common because of the large population of
unemployed that were provided for by the public dole. Lucius Aelius Sejanus was in charge of these
troops and that gave him an enormous amount of potential power. He aspired to marry Livia Julia,
Tiberius daughter, and worked to increase the emperor s fear and distrust of other members of his
Tiberius family. In AD 26 Tiberius left
Rome and withdrew to Campania, and the following year went to the island of
Capri. Tiberius left Rome under the power of Sejanus. Finally realizing that
Sejanus was trying to seize the imperial power he sent a carefully worded letter to the senate. The
senate read the letter while the unsuspecting Sejanus sat in the senate chamber. Tiberius bitterly
condemned Sejanus. Quick action was then taken to execute Sejanus and his family. Incidents such as
this one gave
Tiberius a bad name with the people of Rome and the senate. Tiberius continued to rule Rome and the

When Sister Josephine called me that night about Sister Mary s last days, the doctor told her that the

Thomas King The Inconvenient Indian Sparknotes
The Inconvenient Indian by Thomas King is a non fiction story about Native people in North America.
Thomas King relies on a multitude of sources for his work, such as historical events, movies, films,
TV, politics, art, and Indian White relations. King also, puts his own taste in the Inconvenient Indian
and brings his own experiences in the story. He accomplishes this by being ironic and sarcastic
throughout the entire story. King prefers to reflect on contemporary issues. The Inconvenient Indian

history. In the sixth chapter Like Cowboys and Indians, King talks about American Indian Movement
(AIM). The people involved in such movement, women and men, protested aggressively towards
Native Indians. Their theory consisted of having more faith in the laws of the land and the judicial
system , as King claims. At the end, makes his readers reflect on why Indians have not started all over

we should forget about them since they happened in the past. He also points out some of those
atrocities to demonstrate how awful they were. He also talks about the Indian Gaming. In the end, he

I am not sure if it is haplogroup X, but I wanted to learn about a haplogroup that is present in Native

because it is hard to trace its path. I believe once a lot of people are able to afford the ability to have
their mtDNA tested it will be easier to evaluate X2a. I found it interesting that not only is haplogroup
X unique but it is found in high frequencies in the Great Lakes population and low frequencies in the
Plains and Pacific Northwest. This caught my eyes because I am from Ohio which is a part of the
Great Lakes region and it is where my grandmother was born as well which could give the possibility
that X2a is a part of my lineage (Raff and Bolnick, 2015). I think it is amazing that haplogroup X has
shown a correlation between protection against harmful diseases and promotion of successful aging
(Courtenay et al., 2011). I think this could be a reason why the people that brought haplogroup X into
the New World lived and prospered so well even in the type of environmental conditions they endured
before, during, and after the Ice Age. The fact that they have protection from diseases allowed them to
conquer any illnesses that they might have come in contact with while traveling or mating. In Amish
populations today, haplogroup X was not only successful

Philippines Imperialism
Imperialism is when one powerful nation dominates a weaker nation. Nations should not imperialize
others and they are many reasons why, that are shown in history. The first reason is imperialism causes
a hostile environment between the nation imperializing and the nation being imperialized. Next, the
negative outcomes outweigh the positive. In other words, when there is little good that comes out of
expanding one nation, why would a nation take that risk? Lastly, Ethnocentrism is one of the effects of
imperialism. Ethnocentrism is judging another culture based on the standards of their own culture.

Ethnocentrism is judging distant cultures based on the standards of your own. Imperialist nations
believe that they are superior races and culture. The White Man s Burden provides more insight on the
perspective of those imperialist nations ( The White Man s Burden : Kipling s Hymn to U.S.
Imperialism ). To serve your captives need; to wait in heavy harness, on fluttered folk and wild your
new caught, sullen peoples, half devil and half child said Kipling ( The White Man s Burden : Kipling
s Hymn to U.S. Imperialism ). This quote means it is believed that the white man s burden or
responsibility is to imperialize, civilize, and Christianize these other nations. For instance, African
American were seen as the unfit and they needed to be civilized. Racism is when races are considered
inferior to another race because of assumptions made. When you consider another race unfit, you are
basing it off your own culture s differences therefore creating racism (Rashid, Aatif). Furthermore
inequality is caused by those superior nations . These superior nations put themselves on a high
pedestal resulting in the belief they are better than anyone else. Ethnocentrism is cause by imperialism
and can sometimes be the motivation behind imperialism. Inequality is then an effect of those nations

In 1893, to Doyle s readers disdain, he had attempted to kill off his extremely popular Sherlock
Holmes character in order to focus more on writing about Spiritualism. In 1901, however, Doyle
reintroduced Sherlock Holmes in The Hound of Baskervilles and later brought him back to life in The
Adventure of the Empty House, so the lucrative character could earn Doyle the money to fund his
missionary work. Doyle also strove to spread his faith through a series of written works, consisting of
The New Revolution (1918), The Vital Message (1919), The Wanderings of a Spiritualist (1921) and
History of Spiritualism (1926). And in 1928, his final twelve stories about Sherlock Holmes were

Mr. Deeds Goes To Town Essay
Daneen Small ID: 108886157 HIS 268 Professor Robert Chase Extra Credit Essay: Mr. Deeds Goes to
Town Frank Capra s production of Mr. Deeds Goes to Town exemplified many themes of the 1930s.
This romantic comedy touched on wealth and inequality during the Great Depression. It also
incorporated gender relations and the role of women during this time period. At the beginning of the
film when Deeds is approached by John Cedar about his inheritance, Deeds doesn t react as one would
usually. His initial reaction to his new found wealth was portrayed in a way that he was unemotionally
effected by this large sum of money. Rather than jump for joy, Longfellow seemed expressionless and

Deeds plan had emulated some of the initiatives of FDR s New Deal Plan. The New Deal was a series
of domestic programs formed between 1933 1936 in response to the Great Depression that focused on
the 3Rs of Relief, Recovery, and Reform. This movie primarily focused on relief, which helped the
unemployed and poor. Longfellow Deeds goal was to help finance rural, family homes within a huge
farming district. This entailed each family getting 10 acres of land, seed, horse, and a cow. Eventually
the farmers would be able to buy back the land after three years. The New Deal had many programs
targeted toward aid to farmers such as the Agricultural Adjustment Administration (AAA) and the
Resettlement Administration (RA) of 1935. Deeds Farming Project closely resembles the RA. The
Resettlement Administration provided funds to farmers and agricultural workers on marginal land to
areas where crops can grow. It provided these families with loans to take care of basic living expenses.
By the end of the film, when Deeds in defending himself in the courtroom, he really demonstrates the
inequality between the rich and the poor of the era with his reference to driving up a hill in his small
town and rowing a boat in the river. He just wants to help out the people in

Should The Penny Be Retired Analysis
Benchmark A In the article of , Should the Penny Be Retired? by the Associated Press states that many
countries and more have deemed the penny useless and therefore got rid of it. Many people around the
world especially in Toronto say to the penny that, They re a nuisance and have outlived their purpose.
While many are for getting rid of the penny all together there are still some people who are for
keeping the penny around in fear for store managers rounding up to a nickel or a dime. In my
perspective I believe that the penny is still valuable for many reasons even though the worth of it is
small.
Even as the worth of the penny is small it can help you get precise amounts and exact change. If we

Adolf Hitler s Machiavellian Strategy Essay
Adolf Hitler s Machiavellian Strategy
Machiavelli s The Prince outlines tactics for a leader to seize and maintain lands under his power. His
tactics have been demonstrated repeatedly throughout history, and though his approach is hardly
ethical or idealistic, one cannot deny the fact that it has proved to be effective. Hitler is an example
that exemplifies the accuracy of what Machiavelli said would bring success in the acquisition of new
provinces. One topic Machiavelli focuses on, especially in Part II, are different types of troops. Had he
seen Hitler s army, he would have classified the troops as native, and would have applauded Hitler s
choice in troops over mercenary (men who fight for money,) auxiliary (foreign ... Show more content

Furthermore it contained people from various religions, including Catholic, Protestant, Jewish, and
atheists, such as communists. Hitler had built the support of an entire nativist Nazi army over the years
with the Beer Hall Putsch, his book Mein Kampf, a book that narrates his struggle in Germany, and his
tremendous oratory skills. Using this army he was able to bully his way into a dictatorial position and
dissolve the Reichstag, eliminating the last bit of democratic government left in Germany. Once in
power, he was able to successfully stay in power by using the guidelines given in The Prince. The
work acknowledges that mixed principalities are of the more difficult to control. To hold such a land
in your power, you must first extinguish the line of princes (15). In Hitler s case, the princes meant
anyone who had any sort of political power in Germany, and he was swift and efficient in killing them,
and outlawing their political parties. Machiavelli also said it is better not to share power, and Hitler
followed this by killing all those in his own Nazi party that had any sort of power, including his whole
elite blackshirt army. The final, and most important issue of maintaining a mixed principality is the
use of force and strict policies, which Hitler used without fail.

Asthma Essay
Introduction
Asthma is considered as one of the most common chronic and complex respiratory conditions which
involve both environmental and genetic factors (1,2). It is such a condition of the airways presents as
constriction of the bronchi and bronchioles in response to irritants. The vascular resistance of the
pulmonary system will increase as constriction leads to a smaller vascular diameter (3,4). The
prevalence of the disease is predicted to rise making it one of the major life threatening disorders. In
the UK, the prevalence of asthma showed an increase two to three fold from 1955 to 2004 (5).

The plasminogen system works in opposition to clotting factors, which work to create clots of fibrin
such as thrombin activatable fibrinolysis inhibitor. Since pleural tissue is covered in elastic tissue and
relies on said tissue for mechanical function, the build up of fibrotic clots can damped the
physiological ability of these tissues (Figure 1). It is the interaction of various immune responses and
tissue remodelling that cause further complications to asthmatic individuals (10).
Figure 1: Fibrin turnover control in pleural disease. Pleural injury is a result of the activation of two
similar pathways which are coagulation and fibrinolysis. The production of tissue factor (TF) is by
mesothelial cells. The upregulation of uPA and PAI 1 by mesothelial cells which can either lead to the

serine protease plasmin formation by interacting with urokinase plasminogen activator (13). The

Buddhist Meditation Paper
Rooted in the Buddhist religious practices, meditation is rapidly being implemented into the
mainstream system of health care. Numerous studies have indicated that extensive meditation training
may lead to functional and structural changes within the brain (e.g. Cahn Polich, 2006; Carter et al.,
2005; Slagter et al., 2007). Therefore, suggesting that the continuous practice of Buddhist meditation
is associated with cognitive, emotional, and neurophysiological changes (e.g. Davidson et al., 2003;

attention is concentrated on an individual s moment to moment experience; allowing oneself to be a

The Buddhist principles of mental training and well being assert that cognitive flexibility can be
nurtured by building on improved attentional abilities which are initially trained and cultivated
(Wallace Shapiro, 2006). Moore and Malinowski s (2009) study did not asses the levels of well being
in the participants, however, the data collected sufficiently corroborated the mental balance model as a
positive correlation was established between the practice of meditation, mindfulness, and cognitive
flexibility. The data collected within the reviewed article, concluded that the practice of meditation
improves mindfulness skills, having a positive effect on attention and cognition. The article supported
previous research by corroborating that, to foster mindfulness, attention needs to work collectively
with a non judgmental attitude towards individual experiences. This paper has outlined the elements

Museum Misconceptions
This thesis focuses on archaeology programming in museums and the common visitor misconceptions
about archaeology that museum educators face, especially those promoted by popular culture. By
recognizing the notions and understanding of archaeology that visitors and program participants carry
with them, museums can create truly educational programs that go beyond the adventure/detective
version of pop culture archaeology and successfully introduce the archaeological discipline to the
general public. This thesis analyzes and explores what misconceptions of archaeology are commonly
held by museum visitors, what their source is, and how museum programming can address these
notions.
The author of this thesis chose to pursue this research topic thanks to a personal background in
archaeology and an interest in education, which coincidentally led them to The University of the Arts

As stated by Wang et al. (2006, p. 160) ... environmental accidents, complaints, and concerns have
pressured industries to shift from the traditions end of pipe approaches to sound pollution prevention
strategies . Interface are reducing their smoke stacks. End of pipe solutions are no longer accepted as a
means of reducing pollution and remaining sustainable in the 21st Century (Waage 2003, p. 23). This
has resulted in Interface reducing their 292 smoke stacks to 183. This is a 39% reduction in smoke
stacks from their operations. A reduction in smoke stacks equals a reduction in pollutants and waste
entering the earths atmosphere. As stated by Wang et al. (2006, p. 160) Pollution represents a loss in
profits during manufacturing . By Interface reducing their pollution through smoke stack
minimisation, they will see a return in increased profits. Further looking into the aspect of reducing
emissions, Interface has acknowledged that to prevent toxic emissions altogether we must go upstream
and prevent those toxic substances from entering our factories in the first place. What comes in will go
out as a product, waste or emission (Waage 2003, p. 23.). To sum this statement, prevention is better
than cure. By following a process of assessing what products come into a manufacturing process and
either substituting or eliminating pollutant products, the end waste will be minimised. As Interface has
set up a programme to reduce benign emissions they

Analysis of Colson Whitehead s John Henry Days
Thesis: Colson Whitehead s John Henry Days is a quintessentially postmodern novel because of its
cynical tone, its confluence of imagery, and its treatment of social and existential alienation.
I. When the protagonist first arrives in West Virginia, his sense of alienation and isolation become
poignant: setting the stage for what is becoming a postmodern novel. His experience checking into the
hotel as a journalist offers telling evidence of the theme of alienation: The desk man at the hotel gave
him a press packet when he registered, checking his name off a list, but J. hasn t bothered to look at it
so he doesn t know what time dinner is, (p. 693). The imagery that Whitehead uses solidifies the core
theme of social alienation. Here, the protagonist s name is disembodied. His name is on the list,
legitimizing his status in the society. On the list, he belongs to a group a professional organization. He
is accountable to his profession, and yet, the protagonist does not feel a genuine sense of belonging.
This trend continues throughout John Henry Days, and is one of the things that characterizes the novel
as being postmodern. John Henry Days addresses a protagonist who seems completely emotionally
detached from his surroundings; and yet his journalistic attitude makes it so that he has keen
intellectual insight into what is going on regarding the symbolic meanings of the John Henry
symbolism.
Journalism also happens to be a postmodern profession in the eyes of the

War Is A Human Experience That Affects People Essay
War is a human experience that affects people greatly. To some people, war is a source of pride, but to
many it is a horrible, violent, and life changing experience. When war comes up in any conversation,
it evokes negative feelings in a person like pain, hurt, and even sadness. Many individuals have been
direct victims of war and some are indirectly affected but still influenced, nonetheless. War continues
to be a pervasive subject and an inspiration for many artists to draw upon. Many artists use art to
express their feelings about war and get their perception of it out to the public. A lot of these
individuals use art to increase awareness in people and to let them understand the negative impacts of
war. One such person is a woman named Edith Birkin, who is not only a survivor of the Holocaust,
but is also an artist who drew images of the situation and victims that were caught up in this horrific
event. Through her artworks, Birkin is able to vividly portray her experiences and put on to canvas
what happened to the Jews during the Second World War. Her paintings allow individuals to see the
conditions during the war that left many people in pain and scarred for the remainder of their life. In
1933, the rise of Hitler to power initiated the advent of the Holocaust. He instilled in the minds of
German people that they are the dominant race and that the inferior race, the Jews, should be
eradicated to stay superior. He was able to rule over majority of Germany and use his

To illustrate, director often uses red details in scenes to symbolise danger, small things such as a scarf
on Dr Sattler s neck in the beginning of the film. These tiny details indicated the audience about
danger and builds a fearful mood. In addition, the weight of the evidence suggest that, colours and
lights can make any situation appealing and horrifying. A final point, the performances of the actors
were magnificent and absolutely accurate, as it acknowledges the audience with the actor s genuine
emotions. Joining, Jeff Goldblum as Mathematics Malcolm are Sam O Neill as Dr. Alan Grant, Laura
Dern as Dr. Ellie Sattler, Richard Attenborough as park creator John Hammond, Samuel L. Jackson as
a computer guru and Wayne Knight as the villain Newman. The picture starts off with an outbreak,
nevertheless, the audience doesn t know what is creating so much horror to the characters. To be more
precise, in the scene when Dr Grant, Mathematician Malcolm, and the two kids: Tim (Joseph
Mazzello) and Lex (Ariana Richards) were waiting to see the T rex. This scene builds up curiosity in
the viewers because of the excited reactions of the actors. Malcolm notices something in the dark and
looks very surprised, the audience notices the raw human emotion of Malcolm and the curious
reaction. Overall, this scene supports the aspect as it displays to the audience the outstanding

Introduction The purpose of this report is to identify the direct and indirect competition of Aveeno s Daily Moisturising Lotion, the positioning and the target audience, based on the scope of a full page print advertisement found within the August 2015 edition of the Australian magazine, The Woman s Weekly . 2. Client Background The Aveeno brand is a subordinate brand ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As direct competition, Cetaphil Moisturising Lotion contains key ingredients such as emollients and humectants to prevent moisture loss from the skin (Galderma Laboratories 2013). Other, more indirect competition includes products such as Dove s Deep Moisture Body wash that boasts a NutriumMoisture formula as a two in one moisturiser and body wash. 2.4 Positioning Against Competition The Daily Moisturising Lotion is positioned as a tonic for sensitive skin, through the references to the use of colloidal oatmeal as the ingredient based point of difference (Johnson amp; Johnson, 2014). The competition, Cetaphil Moisturising Lotion, is similar in that it claims to be a strong, gentle moisturiser for dry skin, with a corresponding ingredient based point of difference (Galderma Laboratories 2013). This ingredient based point of difference, however, isn t promoted to the same degree, as seen in commercials (TV Commercial Spot Cetaphil The Genty Power Gentle Skincare Products 2014). Though the Aveeno Daily Moisturising Lotion and Olay s Complete Defense Daily UV Moisturising Lotion SPF30 share points of parity such as their daily use positioning, the specification of the Olay lotion s SPF relegates the Aveeno to a somewhat all round lotion. It is, however, the ingredients that take centre stage in the positioning of Aveeno s Daily Moisturising Lotion against such ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Theme Of Guilt In Atonement Both writers of the books Atonement and The Remains of The Day investigate the manners by which the characters are responsible for enabling their imagination to dominate their perception of reality. This then brings severe consequences that shape the rest of their stories throughout the novels. Regret and guilt are depicted throughout both novels by the successful utilization of dialect that is used in the books in the portrayal of emotions, or lack of, which also showed the tension between the characters. With close analysis of the characters in the novel, it is questionable regardless of whether the characters feel regretful or guilty for any of their actions throughout the novel. Nearing the climax of the novels; Briony and Stevens set goals ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In Atonement, Briony is the guiltiest because of her abuse of her imagination and therefore becomes a victim to the controlling demon the invades her mind. However, her guilt is not made excessively obvious up until the end section of the novel where it is uncovered that she becomes a nurse. Briony s guilt is shown through the way that she endeavours to keep on working for her fallen sister as opposed to following her own desires. The fountain scene is an excellent example of how Briony s desire for a much more romanticised world would affect her to think irrationally, while watching the interactions amongst Cecilia and Robbie, Briony s train of thought switches rapidly between a proposal of marriage to Robbie being in control of Cecilia and issuing a command which Cecilia dared not to obey . • 5. Descartes Discourse On Method Summary The mythical phoenix is born in the ashes of its mother once she has been consumed in flame, becoming stronger than she ever was. In Discourse on Method, Descartes hopes to destroy the conventional understanding of philosophy that has been followed throughout the ages, and in doing so establish his own philosophy as the new convention in the ashes of the old philosophy. In this paper, I will present Descartes findings of instability in philosophy and distaste for the way people learn as his motivation for undertaking this reconstruction of his thoughts, finding a firm and lasting basis for the sciences as his end goal for the reconstruction, and his rules for conducting thought and code of doubt as the way by which he hopes to achieve ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Descartes takes this idea and applies it to book learning, and he concludes that book learning is composed and enlarged little by little from the opinions of many different persons. However, he believes that book learning does not draw nearly as close to the truth as the simple reasonings that a man of good sense can naturally make about the things he encounters. Descartes believes that one should trust in their reason rather than in their knowledge which has been collected from the opinions of others. Secondly, Descartes, by embarking on this reconstruction of his thoughts, hopes to find a stable basis for the sciences. Since Descartes was trained as a mathematician, he likes to find proofs for ideas, so that he can know them with absolute certainty. Initially, he believes philosophy to be the basis for the sciences insofar as they [the sciences] borrow their principles from philosophy. However, he concludes that philosophy cannot be the basis for the sciences, saying, one could not have built anything upon such unstable foundations. Now, he has to find a stronger foundation for the sciences and it is only through the reconstruction of his thought that he is able to do this. Lastly, Descartes uses two methods to carry out the reconstruction of his thoughts. The first method is his four rules for conducting thought, which will characterize the way that he will look at the world during this period of reconstruction. The first rule is ... • 6. Human Control Project Analysis Today, numerous individuals are persuaded that the end of the dark wolf was a blunder, as well as a drawback to the personal satisfaction in this nation. There has been an open objection to redress the circumstance made by the lack of awareness of our progenitors. Then again, in trying to address a circumstance made by the human impulse to control nature, it is significant to recognize the amount of human impedance is fundamental. Human control must be tempered by an appreciation and restriction. Projects intended for the insurance and rebuilding of untamed life must reflect respect for the normal request instead of predominance over it. The outcomes of human activities including the disposal of the dim wolf have been particularly intense in Yellowstone National Park, where the absence of a characteristic predator has brought about the overpopulation of buffalo, deer, and elk. As indicated by Sharon Begley of Newsweek magazine, Missing a characteristic predator, a great many the ungulates have starved amid intense winters, and there has been no determination weight to keep deer quick and moose effective . Another issue is more inconspicuous. As Ms. Begley ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Nonetheless, there are inborn issues in catching and moving wolves effectively. Indeed, even scholars for the project concede that the most obvious test is to beat the common inclination of wolves to attempt to return home. The main answer for this quandary is to pen the creatures up for a time frame until they get used to their new environment. Tragically, at whatever point wolves are penned, there is a threat that they will lose some of their ferocity. Be that as it may, such measures have as of now been fundamental on account of one of the wolf families in Yellowstone. • 8. Analysis Of Blair Witch Project Semiotic Analysis on Blair Witch Project Blair Witch Project is regarded the first of its time, a horror film in a documentary style movie. The release of the film in 1999 marked a new phase in the creation of films. The Blair Witch Project set a benchmark for production of films of different genres, especially for horror movies. The fixtures of the genre, horror films, have long being characterized by the presence of graphical violence and torture by villains like monsters, ghosts, demons and madmen or psychopaths. Prior to the release of the Blair Witch Project, most horror movies were developing in many ways especially in the storyline and justifications of the supernatural characters and scenes. Blair Witch Project was very special in many ways, using mystery, suspense and foreshadowing to create the intense fear and scare in the audience. Since the 1980s, the horror movies have changed dramatically. With every new experience through innovation, in the film industry, the horror films are expected to change with time, and in a whole new dimension. The film Blair Witch Project, produced in 1999, has had an incredible impact and influence, which very few films have had over the years. It is arguably among the scariest and most frightening horror film to date. • 9. Reflection On My Math Class Since starting this class, I feel as though my background knowledge of math would have been enough for me to feel comfortable in the classroom but, because of the readings and in class tasks with my peers I ve become more knowledgeable on many terms and practices of math. It is clear that within the classroom of my peers we all complete a math problem differently. Some students answer questions the completely different way than I do but, we get the same answers. For example, when we were asked to add simple math numbers, two of the four of us thought the same way. While to other people found different ways to get the answer. Amongst the four of us there were three different ways to solve one simple addition question. This small task opened my mind completely. I can see that was in my group of four people, there were three strategies to answer one question. I can only imagine a number of ways a class of 30 students comes up with. This will enhance my understanding as a teacher because I know that every student does not think the same and there is more than one right way to solve a question. This class has also shown me that using manipulatives is one of the best tools to enhance the students understanding. Using manipulatives will not only help the students, but it will help me as a teacher to understand the student s steps in solving questions. The best example in class was when my group was given coloured bears and asked to show 1 as many ways as possible. We decided to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. Analysis Of My Papa s Waltz By Theodore Roethke Theodore Roethke s poem, My Papa s Waltz has spurred passionate academic debates among professors, scholars, and students; the imagery, context, and diction of the poem clearly supports the interpretation that Roethke writes My Papa s Waltz reflecting on his relationship with his father. A relationship in which, notably, causes harm to the author. However, through all the nights Roethke spent in pain and in horror, his love for his father still exists. While many people believe that the author tells a lovely story of a fond memory with his father, it is not possible that the use of negative imagery and negative diction does not play a role in the story told. My Papa s Waltz tells the story of a small boy who is abused by his ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Furthermore, the negative imagery in My Papa s Waltz strengthens the interpretation that the poem is about abuse. Throughout the entire poem the author noticeably creates multiple negative images. Roethke mentions how he hung on like death and how his father held [his] wrist not his hand. From these two lines we can already see how Roethke is in some kind of danger or trouble, for he hung on like death which serves to explain how he barely survived he had much trouble staying on. His father also does not hold his hand; he holds his wrist, as if he were getting his son in trouble. If his father would to waltz, as in dance with his son, he would hold him by the hand not the wrist. Further, Roethke mentions his mother whose countenance could not unfrown itself. Many argue the author implies that his mother frowns at the sight of the pans falling in the kitchen. Analyzing closely, one can conclude that it is unreasonable for a mother to just frown and watch her pans fall logically, she would react in some other form by trying to stop it. Since the author does not mention any movement, it is reasonable to believe that the mother just stands there with a frown because her eyes come across a horrific image that she freezes in fear and can only frown upon this sight. • 11. The Crucible And The Handmaids Tale Analysis By exploring settings societies governed by political and social patriarchies, both Arthur Miller s the Crucible and Margaret Atwood s The Handmaids Tale provide commentary on women s role in society. Both texts are set against a backdrop in which women are seen as a second class and are subject to male dominance. The similarities in the two texts lie within their separate discussions of gender roles in society, but they differ on the intricacies of this. From a theocratic standpoint, the play and the novel dissect the faults in an oppressive society, with Miller making it abundantly clear that it can in fact be challenged instead of conformed to. Atwood also somewhat entertains this concept, but both writers have different perceptions on identity and individuality in worlds that don t seem much unlike our own. The consequences of a patriarchal, theocratic state based on the foundation of Puritanism is first challenged by The Crucible, which evaluates its effect on the women in its society. This specific form of religion seemed unhealthy to Miller, as in the search for the perfect people, Puritans became obsessed with seeking out the damned and condemning them. Perfection was seen as a responsibility to these people as they wanted to ensure the Devil could not harm them, and the playwright attributes this paranoia as one of the main reasons behind the mass hysteria in Salem that followed. Tiberius established a central camp for the Praetorian guard in Rome so the military could be quickly called to put down civilian violence. Civilian riots were common because of the large population of unemployed that were provided for by the public dole. Lucius Aelius Sejanus was in charge of these troops and that gave him an enormous amount of potential power. He aspired to marry Livia Julia, Tiberius daughter, and worked to increase the emperor s fear and distrust of other members of his Tiberius family. In AD 26 Tiberius left Rome and withdrew to Campania, and the following year went to the island of Capri. Tiberius left Rome under the power of Sejanus. Finally realizing that Sejanus was trying to seize the imperial power he sent a carefully worded letter to the senate. Analysis of Colson Whitehead s John Henry Days Thesis: Colson Whitehead s John Henry Days is a quintessentially postmodern novel because of its cynical tone, its confluence of imagery, and its treatment of social and existential alienation. I. When the protagonist first arrives in West Virginia, his sense of alienation and isolation become poignant: setting the stage for what is becoming a postmodern novel. His experience checking into the hotel as a journalist offers telling evidence of the theme of alienation: The desk man at the hotel gave him a press packet when he registered, checking his name off a list, but J. hasn t bothered to look at it so he doesn t know what time dinner is, (p. 693). On the list, he belongs to a group a professional organization. He is accountable to his profession, and yet, the protagonist does not feel a genuine sense of belonging.
