Foster Care As A Temporary Solution Essay
Foster care is one of the major issues still faced in this world today. According to Crosson Tower
(2013), in the early 1800s, boarding homes were instituted with the idea of rescuing good children
from bad parents. She noted that the idea of paying for foster homes to house children was
renounced because agencies advocating foster careargued that it would lead to foster parents
taking children for money rather than out of altruism. However, she also explained that the
practice of paying for foster care emerged, and the government became involved regulating and
administering the foster care system in the twentieth century. In addition, her research indicated
foster care became progressively more common as the form of caring where the parents were
unable to care for their children. Although foster care is designed to be a temporary solution, the
nature of foster care today shows the complete opposite (Crosson Tower, 2013). The organization
that will be discussed in this paper is going to expand on the issue of foster care and their advocacy
efforts to combat the issue.

Nursing Homes And The Nursing Home Facility
For those who are not familiar with nursing homes , nursing homes is occupied by residents of all
demographic 65 years and older with low function morbidities on their activities of daily living like
eating, bathing, dressing, toileting ,transferring and continence. However, nursing homes provided
other services like skilled nursing ,this are services that provided for non permanent residents .non
permanent residents are patients that come for a short period of time due to need of medical
services. Usually, the length of stay Lange from 90days and above depend on their prognosis. The
main reason these patients are admitted to the nursing homefacility for short stay is to receive post
hospitalization and post operative care like intravenous medication, physical and occupational
therapy. Each year, millions of older people 65 and older fall. In fact, more than one out of four
older people fall each year. One out of five falls causes a serious injury such as broken bones or a
head injury. Each year, 2.8 million older people are treated in emergency departments for fall
related injuries. (CDC,2015).Fall in the nursing home is a huge problem .Elder people living in
nursing homes die every year due to falls related injury .These falls cause so many injuries leaving
our patient with permanent injury each year. Fall prevention in the long term care it can be very

Have you ever thought about how many Muslims are discriminated on a day to day basis? On
account of discrimination, it s a prejudiced or prejudicial outlook, action or treatment and this is

What Role Does Reason Play In Determining The Content Of
What Role Does Reason Play in Determining the Content of Morality
Immanuel Kant and David Hume diverge in their ideas about the nature of morality and do not see
eye to eye on how to determine whether or not an action is morally permissible. Kant holds that
practical reason alone can be used to determine whether or not a line of behavior is moral, whereas
Hume believes that reason is inconsequential to morality and that the way to determine whether an
action is moral is to examine the sentiments that it provokes within us.
Despite these differences in Kant and Hume s theories of moral philosophy, adherents of the two
philosophers, nevertheless, for the most part agree on the contents of morality. However, though
the moral rules that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For Kant, in order to determine the morality of a particular behavior it is necessary to be able to
appraise that behavior rationally free of emotional coercion. According to his Universal Law
Formulation (ULF) a moral act is one that we can rationally will that others carry out as well. By
the same token, to behave in a way that is immoral is to conduct oneself in such a manner that we
cannot rationally will that others comport themselves in.
What Kant s reliance on reason as the ultimate determinant of morality means is that the moral rules
constructed by Kantians are steadfast and unwavering. Granted it is admittedly possible for some
Kantians to say that the moral rules generated from Kant s philosophy are able to accommodate
extenuating circumstances, Kant s insistence on putting practical reason over empirical factors
means that the ULF will either pass or fail a maxim consistently, regardless of circumstances.
It follows from Kant s argument that all beings endowed with rational faculties will be able to
use either the ULF or the Formula of Humanity to derive the same moral rules, regardless of the
particular state of affairs they are faced with. Of course, it is certainly possible for an individual,
say Shelly Kagan, to use the ULF to pass a maxim that say something like Shelly Kagan can kill
whoever he wants, whenever he feels like it, such maxims, however, abuse the ULF by bringing in
circumstantial factors the name Shelly Kagan for instance is a

Once More To The Lake Analysis
Once More To The Lake by E.B White features stylistic and rhetorical strategies such as literary
tone and flashbacks. Through the use of White s flashbacks to his earlier childhood at the lake, the
literary tone of nostalgia and reminiscent sentiment is set. The nostalgic attitude of the work
contributes to the heartfelt tone of the piece as White transports the audience to a meaningful time
in his life. Furthermore, the use of the various flashbacks helps White relate his childhood to his
child, creating a parallel between White and his father, when he was his childs age. Through this
sentimental tone, the overall meaning of the work is created as it displays how time does not
change memories, even if time has changed the present day. Together, these stylistic choices affect
the audience s reactions as the reader is able to identify how the lake represents the authors
unfading and untouchable memories of his younger days.
White s purpose for writing this piece was to describe how memories can not be changed despite
how time changes everything around it. This can be seen when the author states that the middle
road in the dusty field was gone, leaving two roads. Despite this change, the author states that the
way led past the tennis court, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The piece was written describing White s time at Belgrade Lakes, Maine, where he vacationed as
a child. With this, the audience of the piece was anyone who read Harper s Magazine and had an
interest in White s autobiographical piece about Maine and his time at the Belgrade Lake.
Furthermore, the piece was written during World War II, and highlights a better time in America s
history, where there was no war and kids could be run free without the worries of an ongoing war. It
can be seen that despite the anxiety of war, memories of the past remain tender, and remind the
audience that time passes continuously, but fond memories will unfailingly be

Research Paper On Europa s Gravity
remember asking my team members why we did not need to calculate as much for the return trip
thinking about the moon Europa s gravity?
Of course, it is a factor but the gravity of earth compared to Europa is very different (Europa s
gravity is very like our moon, which is 5/6 less than earth s gravity). A team member responded.
The escape velocity (4) (the velocity required for an object to leave the gravitational field) to leave
earth was one that my space craft needed to beat in order for my mission to be a success. (the
escape velocity for earth is 11.2 km/s) The escape velocity takes in account the gravitational force,

Back on earth I loved to spend time in the gym to work out. This not only made my muscles
healthy but it was a good distraction from the realities of my classes in college, my jobs after
college, and other things. Working out also gave me a healthy mindset, which is perfect for
travelling in space. Looking out the window into space was truly mesmerizing. Seeing the infinite
darkness with specs of light from the stars gave me a whole new perspective. My first mission in
space was a six month stay on the International Space Station. From the ISS I could see an
amazing sunrise, but this new mission made me feel so disconnected from my home. Travelling
where no man has ever gone gave me new inspiration and courage.
As my destination approached I began to refresh my studies on Europa. Europa is a moon (11)

described as a natural satellite) of the Galilean family orbiting Jupiter. Europa is similar in the
size of the earth s moon but slightly smaller (Europa s mass 4.8 * 10^22 kg compared to the
moon 7.3*10^22 kg). The surface is fairly new due to the lack of crater impacts. The surface has
many crevices and cracks making it look like glaciers compressing and stretching. This is what

Oligopoly Market Failure
In micro economics market failure is characterized by resource misallocation and subsequent Pareto
inefficiency. Just as the invisible hand falters, so is the case that the unregulated markets are
incapable of solving all economic problems. In laissez faire economy, market models mainly
monopolistic, perfect competition and oligopoly are expected to efficiently allocate resources for
the welfare benefit of the society. However individualistic and selfish private interests divert the
public benefits thereby prompting government intervention to correct the imperfection which may
lead to disastrous economic impact. Although corrective intervention policies by government may
not necessarily address the underlying imperfection induced by... Show more content on

Competition failure or monopoly may result from natural monopoly where it costs incurred in
production becomes lower when only one firm is involved in production than several firms
producing the same output. In a monopolist market under production, higher prices become
dominant contributing to market inefficiency. Winston cites cases of misuse of monopoly power
can lead to market failures and sometimes may lead to acute shortage of essential commodities
(130).
Coordination failures by private markets are perceived to contribute significantly in inefficiency.
Negative externalities like environmental pollution and positive externalities like focusing on public
benefits and ignoring the private benefits significantly contribute to market failures. Fundamental
questions have been raised to determine the appropriate time government intervention is required
and the magnitude of inefficiency to warrant supposedly intervention or to let the market correct
itself. Stiglitz, argued that inefficient government microeconomic policies to address the market
gap often tends to exacerbate the existing problem or yield unproductive results in the economy
(34).
Market failure Correction The principal of Pareto efficiency dictates that market failure is a product
of making other individuals worse than they were found. To

Virtual Public School Report
Before I came to a virtual public school, I attended a private school and was homeschooled
throughout middle school. My mom chose to homeschool my siblings and I because she was travel
nurse, which caused us to move every year.
When my sister and I was enrolled, the level of flexibility this program offered pleased my mom s
concerns, while also providing rigorous courses and standards. My mother wanted my younger
brothers to receive this type of education. However, in the following school year, new laws were
set in place to restrict students from enrolling who were not already public school student.
Seeing how this issue affected more than just my family, I decided to take action and figure out
how to help solve this problem. I researched more about about my state s legislative, as well as the

Catholic Beliefs
Catholic I Believe In God
STILL CATHOLIC AFTER ALL THESE YEARS I believe in God, Father Almighty, and in
Jesus Christ, His only begotten son, Our Lord, who was born of the Holy Ghost and of Mary,
the Virgin, who was crucified under Pontius Pilate and buried; on the third day He rose from the
dead ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of the Father, from whence He shall
come to judge the quick and the dead; and in the Holy Ghost; the Holy Church; the remission of
sins; and the resurrection of the dead. (Apostles Creed) I am Catholic, and this prayer that is said

Catholics are followers of Jesus. Our journey begins at baptism, and we continue on that journey
towards eternal happiness. There are two main ideas that separate Catholicism from Christianity.
The first is that Catholics believe in the Church as its teacher. This means that just as you might
need a math teacher to explain your textbook in a way that you understand, we need the leaders
of the Church (Pope, bishops, and priests) to interpret the Bible. We shouldn t take everything the
Bible says literally, and these leaders help us to apply its teachings to our lives. The second main
idea is that there are seven Sacraments (baptism, confession, communion, confirmation, marriage,
annointing of the sick, Holy Orders) that we need to incorporate into our lives so that we may
live the teachings of the Church. It is one thing to hear how we should live our lives, but it is
another to do. That is where the Sacraments help. The Church has laws governing the reception of
all the sacraments. Members are expected to try and understand the meaning of the Church s rituals
and to develop a full sacramental lifestyle. (web) Catholicism has other teachings that are integral
to the religion. Followers are expected to live according to the Ten Commandments of the Old
Testament, the Gospel message of Jesus Christ, and the laws and moral teachings of the Church.
The Church is officially against any racial or national criteria for membership. It is a universal

Analogy All life is a game of power. The object of the game is simple enough: to know what you
want and get it. The moves of the game, by contrast, are infinite and complex, although they
usually involve the manipulation or people and situations to your advantage. As for the rules,
these are only discovered by playing the game to the end. Cause and Effect In the past century,
government has expanded and become more involved in many new fields and aspects of life.
One reason for this change is that government has more to because the population has increased
by 600 percent over the past 100 years. More rules and regulations are needed to keep larger
numbers of people living and working together peacefully. Another reason for government
expansion is the growth of cities. The government has been forced to accept responsibility for the

With Google increasing their percentage of searches, in comparison to all other search entities, it
is easy to see that Yahoo and Microsoft are losing the battle against this Internet behemoth. In the
period from 2008 to 2010, Microsoft maintained a constant net profit margin (Hitt, Ireland
Hoskisson, 2009). This would indicate that Microsoft is outperforming Google, but these
impressive numbers do not tell the story for the segment of Microsoft that is competing against
Google. The operating profit margins during this period for Microsoft s online services business
unit are embarrassing at best, with negative margins in 2009 and 2010. This indicates that
Microsoft is hemorrhaging money at an increasing rate while it tries to compete with Google.
Similarly, Yahoo shows declining net profit margins for every year from 2007 to 2010, with
margins for 2009 and 2010 dropping below 0.1. (see appendix). Overall, while its top competitors
are losing money and market share, Google continues to grow and provide investors with profits.
Several factors are what make customers prefer google to its competitor. The search industry giant
s success is a cause of many key resource strengths and competitive capabilities. Google gains the
trust of users through reliable, accurate searches and a clear distinction of upfront ads in searches.

The Image Processing Techniques For Breast Cancer
Abstract In recent years the image processing techniques are used commonly in various medical
areas for improving earlier detection and treatment stages, in which the time span or elapse is very
important to discover the disease in the patient as possible as fast, especially in many tumours such
as the lung cancer, breast cancer. This system generally first segments the area of interest (lung) and
then analyses the separately obtained area for nodule detection in order to examine the disease.
Even with several lung tumour segmentations have been presented, enhancing tumour segmentation
methods are still interesting because lung tumour CT images has some complex characteristics,
such as large difference in tumour appearance and uncertain tumour boundaries. To address this
problem, tumour segmentation method for CT Images which separates non enhancing lung
tumours from healthy tissues has been carried out by clustering method. The proposed method uses
pre processing technique that remove unwanted artifacts using median and wiener filters. Initially,
the segmentation of the CT images has been carried out by using K Means clustering method. To
the clustered result, EK Mean clustering is applied . Further the features like entrpy, Contrast,
Correlation,Homogenity and the area are extracted from the tumorous part of Fuzzy Ek Means
segmented Image. For feature extraction, statistic method called Gray Level Co occurrence Matrix

Symbolism In The Beauty Queen Of Leenane
The Beauty Queen of Leenane, a deep, twisted play by Martin McDonagh, is a symbolic work of
art. The symbols within this play, powerful as they may be, do not jump out at the reader. They are
instead embedded into the simplest objects and the relationship of the main characters. Martin
McDonagh portrays his symbols with such an ironic eloquence; the dark, powerful symbols are
inextricably linked in such a beautiful way, that once the reader makes the connections, the entire
aura of the play changes. From symbols as simple as hot oil and a rocking chairto the mother
daughter relationship of Mag and Maureen, the reader learns more and more about Irelandduring its
time of troubles. Right off the bat, the reader is aware that Mag and Maureen s relationship is not a
traditional mother daughter relationship. Any and all forms of love seem to be absent, there is no
common ground, and abuse is evident. It is within this abuse that the first symbolis found hot oil.
The stage directions state, Maureen slowly and deliberately takes her mother s shriveled hand,
holds it down on the burning range, and starts slowly pouring some of the hot oil over it, as Mag
screams in pain and terror (McDonagh 43). The literal use of the symbol of hot oil is highly
substantial in identifying the kind of relationship Mag and Maureen possess, but the symbolic
significance behind the hot oil bears a greater significance. In this play, hot oil is symbolic of the
intense, burning tension between mother

Big Brother Symbolism
Big Brother: Protector or Dark Representative As far as the eye can see, the posters so bold and
ubiquitous boast Big Brother Is Watching You (Orwell 3). He is the leader of the Party, yet he
is also the government itself; he is a symbol representing much more than what is implied. In
1984 by George Orwell, Big Brother represents the darkness behind the Party. This dark
symbolism is evident in big brother s name using the principles of doublespeak, similarities
between big brother and dictators, big brother s totalitarian like action and purpose, and the fear
caused by big brother s unceasing watch on his people. Though Big Brother is a symbol for the
Party s darkness, some readers interpret his character as harmless. Afterall, big brother is a name

creates the Ministry of Truth to dispose of books and other such documentation of stories that do
not suit his needs, much like how Hitler burned books for the same purpose (Ingersoll). This
knowledge was carried out to such an extent that Big Brother could rewrite astronomy to make the
stars mere miles away from Earth if such a truth accorded with the unrestrained exercise of power
by the Party (Ingersoll). Another example of Big Brother s similarity to dictators can be found

white/blacks in the novel creating a cut throat atmosphere which creates a hazardous place for
Jamaica s denizens. Many racial situations occur between whites and blacks, which Americans are
use to due to the dangerous troubles between blacks and whites in the 1950s with a clear enemy:
the whites. But Rhys tackles a more important point: an overall racial hostility between everybody
living in Jamaica during the novels time period with no one to blame. Instead of using only racism,
Rhys uses situations her readers could easily relate to such as: betrayal, adultery, and feeling of not
belonging. Through her use of alternating points of views,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Rhys places Antoinette in such a position to show her readers several things: how Antoinette faced
racism and prejudice, her misunderstanding of racism, and the violence towards the discriminated.
Rhys also shows how apparent the racism towards white people is, with Annette hinting at the
destructive nature of the Jamaican people by saying they are more alive than [Mr. Mason is], lazy
or not, and they can be dangerous and cruel for reason you wouldn t understand (29). Rhys needs to
show that races, Creole and white people cannot escape racism and chooses to use Rochester and
Antoinette to help readers better connect with them. The point of this practice is to show Rochester
and Antoinette are both victim and helps create a complex connection between them: through
conflict, marriage and their individual faults.
Rhys integrates the two characters and their racism so her readers will feel more connected with
both. In the paper Race, Creole, and National Identities in Rhys Wide Sargasso

Communication Styles And Methods For Resolving The...
Identify the process to communicate any problem and methods for resolving the problems.
Conduct a group meeting: This is the effective and efficient way to get the business information and
messages conveyed and delivered among a group of team members. During the meeting any
previous issues and future concerns are brought up for detailed discussion and a meeting minutes
will be formed and distributed to the meeting participants after the meeting.
Send business emails: This method is opposed to the time consuming group discussion and
meeting. By just sending the emails to all the required team members, staffs work will not be
delayed by being pulled off from their conducted work. This communication method can also serve
as the strong evidences for delivered business information.
Individual discussion: This communication method allows the participants to discuss some private
and sensitive information face to face without creating any offending feeling. However both parties
need to be aware of the communication styles and learn to compromise their opinions.
Conduct a group presentation: This communication style is best for the team members who are
visual learners. They can accept new ideas via seeing the pictures and photos and prefer to learn
under the formal learning environment. MS PowerPoint software can help facilitate this
communication method.
Apply visual materials: Some staffs learn things faster by reading from a summarised information

School Environment And The Classroom Environment
Do you remember ever as a kid dreading going to school? Somedays you just really didn t feel
like it, but you had to anyway. Now, was it you didn t enjoy school whatsoever, or was it really
the environment they put you in at school? Well, kids today are facing those exact same problems
each day. It s time to get to the bottom of it. The school environment children spend most of their
day is a place many kids across the nation do not enjoy. There are many flaws in today s school
environment that some may not realize. However, many schools tend to blame the kids by telling
them they simply do not wantto work and they are acting lazy. Even if there is a small percentage
of students where that really is the case, but for the other ninety percent, that is completely false,
and it is crucial we emphasize that. School environment issues include children being allowed to
have their cell phones in the classroom which is decreases their work time, the excessive amount of
homeworkkids are being faced with which is causing some kids to cheat and giving them anxiety
and stress issues, and the debate about extending the school which would push back students
schedules causing the to get less sleep, but still having to wake up just as early as before the in the
morning. To begin, some students and teachers are wishing to bring cell phones into the classroom
more often. They are becoming rather eager to have cell phones be the next step in transforming

The Impact Of Network On The College Student
The impact of Network on the college student.
With the advent of the era of information, network in the lives of college students plays a very
important role, the network brings us a lot of convenienceпјЊHowever, its negative effects become
more and more cause our attention. To further investigate the influence of network for college
students, I adopt the method of the questionnaire survey and online search. (my opinion)
According to a survey (Basic situation investigation), some students can effectively control the
Internet time and the main purpose is to collect learning materials online. There is a question (the
question three is: What is the purpose of you access the Internet? A: Check study material B: chat
with friend, C: watch the news D: listen to music or watch movies, D: others ) Forty five percent of
the students chose to listen to music and watching moviesпјЊThirty four percent of students chose
to chat onlineпјЊWhile only 15% of the students chose to find information related to the learning
and watching the news, the remaining 6% of the students chose the other.
There is no denying that, network openness and convenience, the diversity of content and
universality, for college students provide a broad space for learning, broaden the students learning
approach, help to widen the vision of the students and promote academic (Naigui Ci said). Also, the

The Baroque Era Essay examples
The Baroque Era
The Baroque era was a unique period in music that began during the 1600 s and ended around
1750. The word baroque is define by Merriam s Collegiate Dictionary as, of, relating to, or having
the characteristics of a style of artistic expression prevalent esp. in the 17th century that is marked
generally by use of complex forms, bold ornamentation, and the juxtaposition of contrasting
elements often conveying a sense of drama, movement, and tension. The word baroque has been
used to indicate paintings, poems, architecture, literature, and all else that is dynamic and

Thomas church in Leipzig. This was a demanding job in which Bach composed canatas for the St.
Thomas and St. Nicholas churches, conduct the choirs, oversee the musical activities of numerous
municipal churches, and teach Latin in the St. Thomas choir school. Bach remained at his post in
Leipzig until his death in 1750. Although he excelled his forbears and contemporaries, he did not
receive the respect he deserved until after his death. Bach is now regarded as one of the greatest
composers of all composers and is a source of inspiration for musicians.
While Bach s musical career centered around Germany, Antonio Vivaldiwas the son of a
professional violinist whose musical career cantered in Italy. Born on March 4, 1678, Vivaldi was
a virtuoso violinist and composer whose works included over 500 concertos.
Vivaldi s output was enormous. It is said that he invented ritornello form. If he did not invent
this, he was the first to use this technique. In 1703, Vivaldi began an on and off relationship with
the Ospedale della Pieta, a home for the female offspring of noblemen and their mistresses.
Vivaldi remained working this post for much of his life. He did, however, take leave to compose
many of his famous operas such as Ottone in villa, his first opera.

Over Many Years, Lois Lowry S Novels Have Been Analyzed
Over many years, Lois Lowry s novels have been analyzed by many. Lowry is known for
grasping measures of social control and taking them a step further. While some, such as Lucas
Kavner (2012) and Carter F. Hanson (2009) declare their acclamation for her out of the box writing
technique, scholars and Utopian studies, such as Lyman Tower Sargent (1988), Tom Moylan
(2014), and Fredric Jameson (1998), place emphasis on the contradiction that dystopia has on
nature.
One could only dream of a world without discrimination. In a world with no differences shown

Intelligence , Integrity , Courage , Wisdom , and the Capacity to See Beyond. (Lowry, 1993, p. 62

The Receiver of Memory is the one person in the community who stores all the past memories of
the time before Sameness. The position of Receiver of Memory is important because there may
be times where one must use the wisdom gained from history to aid the community s decision
making; guidance in the present using memories in the past. (Noyce, Koenigsberg, Silver, 2014).
The figurative community Lowry writes of lacks any color, memory, climate, or understanding of
their territory, all in an effort to uphold structural order and a true sense of equality beyond
personal individuality. Our people made that choice, the choice to go to Sameness. Before my
time, before the previous time, back and back and back. We relinquished color when we
relinquished sunshine and did away with differences. He thought for a moment. We gained control
of many things. But we had to let go of others. (Lowry, 1993, p. 95)
Though some scholars do not agree with the writing techniques of Lois Lowry, I argue that Lowry is
an amazing and independent writer. I find Lowry s writing to be very fascinating and somewhat
truthful in the real world even though these are fiction novels. While Lowry writes of these
innovative places, she uses symbolism which connects the character s world to our own world.

The Glass Unicorn Symbolism
Broken Glass and Breaking from the Past
In Tennessee William s 1944 play entitled The Glass Menagerie, Williams employed prevailing
symbolism to illustrate Laura s odd habit and ultimate fate. Laura escaped from reality when she
was in the presence of her glass animals, and suffered emotionally due to her physical deformity of
one leg being shorter than the other. The figurine in her collection that she admired the most was
her glass unicorn, which also served as a powerful representation of her oddness and physical
defect. Throughout this essay I will further discuss the significance of the glass unicorn, by giving
further detail on the connections made between Laura and the glass unicorn. Tennessee Williams
illustrated the significance of the glass unicorn in a symbolic fashion. The glass collection
Laura possessed and felt so fondly of, was more than just an oddity. Williams used the glass to
represent the fragility in Laura and as a standard for the decorative items that women might
possess. The glass unicorn was fragile and delicate, just as Laura was. This fragility was physically
obvious in the glass; as Laura said, If you breathe, it breaks! (1.7.89). ... Show more content on

Throughout my research, I have discovered that all autistic children have specific individualized
characteristics and that both programs are equally stressful because both require IEP for their
students even though special education has it for all and not just a fraction of their children. A
successful special educationprogram requires research supported practices that include
individualized assessment of a child s skills and strengthens, interests, and needs. It includes intense

condition is that integration should be based on the individual needs of the student. This means that

impairments in social interactions, communication, and behavior. Some social issues include the
dislike for being touched, the inability to look others in the eye, being more interested in objects
than people, and not being able to make friends or play with others. When it comes to
communication these individuals have the inability to socialize properly, and difficulty with verbal
and nonverbal communication. Nonverbal communication is defined as the understanding of body

Studies in Emotional Intelligence Essay
Studies in Emotional Intelligence
There is a growing interest in the concept of emotional intelligence, and with that growth is a gap
between what we know and what we need to know. In the article, Emotional Intelligence: Issues and
Common Misunderstandings, Robert J. Emmerling and Daniel Goleman inquire as to what
emotional intelligence is, how it differs from other established constructs within psychology,
whether or not it can be developed, whether or not it can be a better predictor of work performance
than traditional measures of intelligence, whether or not it should be measured at all, and how it
relates to ethics.

This would allow those with a low IQ, but a high level of emotional intelligence to thrive with only
average intelligence. This gives individuals the idea that IQ matters very little. Emotional
intelligence has begun to challenge the assumptions about what leads to success, and to bring a
balanced view to the role of emotion and cognition in determining life outcomes. In order to
validate claims of the importance that emotional intelligence and traditional intelligence possess in
the prediction of certain criterion, more research is needed.
Within the emotional intelligence paradigm there exists several theories that attempt to better
understand and explain the abilities, skills, and traits associated with emotional and social
intelligence. Researchers have been able to demonstrate the discriminant validity of trait based
approaches to emotional intelligence. Recent research shows that emotional intelligence is a unique
construct that accounts for unique variance when IQ and personality are controlled. Emotional
intelligence has not been around for very long, and evidence continues to develop that shows how
EI represents many traits and abilities that are not fully accounted for by traditional measures of
personality and cognitive intelligence. The traditional intelligence field has not been threatened or

Relational Dialectics Theory Essay
Comparing relationships to unicycles seems strange or unlikely, however the constant strive for
balance against opposing forces is a perfect description for relational dialectics theory (Griffin,
2009). Barbara Montgomery, an interpersonal communication scholar, describes riding a unicycle
as a task of contradicting forces, constantly pulling against each other in a tug of war motion. The
best way to control the wheel is by the constant changes in movement, adapting one way or the
other, to maintain control over the fall (Griffin). When Montgomery and Baxter first started
researching interpersonal relationships they were surprised by the feedback they discovered from
their interviews (Griffin, 2009). They found multiple truths to a lot... Show more content on

They argue that these tendencies are common towards all relationships and are unavoidable
(Griffin). The core concept that stands out of relational dialectics theory is contradiction (Griffin,
2009). A contradiction happens whenever you have two interdependent forces that mutually work
against each other (Griffin). This is continually happening in relationships because they are in a
constant state of flux. Relationships are constantly changing and there is no complete certainty.
Baxter and Montgomery give the example of contradiction as a game of tug of war created through
interpersonal conversations. Moreover, these theorists believe that contradictions are inevitable and
can be used to constructively enhance the quality of relationships (Griffin). When researching,
Baxter came across three reoccurring contradictions that come as a balancing act for relationships:
integration separation, stability change, and expression nonexpression (Griffin, 2009). There are
two ways to experience these dialectic contradictions, internally or externally. Internal dialectic
refers to the contradictions within the relationship, whereas external dialectic refers to
contradictions between the couple and the community (Griffin). Baxter and Montgomery regard the
internal dialect for integration and separation as a contradiction between connectedness and
separateness (Griffin, 2009). As an individual a person feels the need to be independent and

between 1994 and 1996 and is estimated to grown at an annual rate of 4% over next few years.
There has been an uptrend in multiple cat households which is primarily due to the ease of care and
maintenance for cats relative to other pets.
Omega Paw has segmented its market into three divisions. 5% of the cat owners are new or first
time owners while 80% of the owners are experienced. The rest of the 15% are segmented in the
gray zone where owners keep their pets outdoors and therefore only spend on food. Omega Paw
should focus its marketing in the first two segments as those owners are likely to research and

could be divided more in to smaller segments with pet owners who prefer to use basic traditional
equipment versus owners who are willing to try new products to see if it matches their needs.

is about the loss of someone close that has endured pain and will, hopefully, find comfort and
peace in the arms of an angel . Pairing this song with animal cruelty would release a surge of

is a different context so I automatically change the way I speak. For example I use phatic talk,
which I would never use in front of my parents because it would show that I am lazy and I am
not bothered about the way I speak. However I use it now to show my friends that I am relaxed

Paulo Freire s The Banking Concept of Education
In his essay The Banking Concept of Education , Paulo Freire condemns the current beliefs about
education, and argues strongly to support his own, new, and somewhat radical ideas about how he
believes education should work. It is clear from his writing that he wishes to convey very strong
feelings in this essay. At the very beginning, after a very brief description of the current education,
he states that education is suffering from narration sickness (212), and later continues to say that in
our current system [words] become a hollow, alienated, and alienating verbosity (212). These

He accomplishes this with much fanfare, denouncing the banking concept as much as possible to
gain advantage in the readers minds with his new revolutionary concepts.
Only in the end of his essay does Freire focus more on his own system, and explain its privileges
without resorting to the faults of the currents system, but even then he uses the latter tactic several
times. The essay ends on a political note, calling the new revolutionaries to realize what the name
they call themselves means, and to change the current ways not only on the outside, as they have
done before, but also internally to make radical changes to their philosophy and their ideas about
education. This concluding device stirs up some doubts as to the point of the whole essay. It might
seem from the author s concluding point that the underlying purpose of the essay was not to
expand on the more beneficial ways of education, but to criticize the ways of political leaders in
his, or some other country. Nevertheless, the rest of the essay shows little evidence of such a plot,
and this point is at best marginal.
One of the passages that is impressive in its ability to appeal to the reader uses a few unique

Ann s Responsibility In The Painted Door By Sinclair Ross
Since civilized society was created, the factor that has organized society the most is responsibility.
Responsibility is the bond that ties people with their obligations towards others around them. For
example, responsibility is when someone trusts someone, and in return for that the person behaves
and acts towards this trust. In the short story The Painted Door , Sinclair Ross describes the major
character Ann and shows how her discontent with her life, her betrayal to John and a lack of
communication are the factors that affect her responsibilitytowards her husband John. The first
factor that affects Ann s responsibility is Ann discontent with her life with John.when Ann gets

College Should Offer Free Tuition
Having a college degree is considered to a vital part of being successful in today s day and age.
College degrees are really expensive, but in a long run they really pay off. College can be a big
financial burden so with that being said, in my opinion, I think community college should offer
free tuition with some sort of standards to be eligible for free tuition. President Barack Obama
conveyed a speech at Macomb Community Collegein Warren, Michigan this past September.
President Obama proposed a free educational cost at any two year junior collegeat length of their
stay as long as they were at least half time students, and they keep up a base evaluation point
normal of no less than 2.5 and the administration would cover seventy five percent of the costs to
the state getting the remaining total as stated by Silvia Munguia. CQ researcher Silvia Munguia,
states that Although some people may disapprove of the proposal, arguing that the country
would lose a lot of money and that offering free community colleges would not necessarily
improve our educational system nor guarantee students graduation from college, it is definitely a
great starting point. I agree with this because at the end of the day, you have to start somewhere.
Munguia also states There are many benefits of making the first two years of college free. If
Obama s proposal passes more people will be able to attend college and be better prepared upon
entering the job market. Free community colleges

High Altitude Wind Power Generating System Essay
High Altitude Wind Power Generating System
Objectives:
1.To design and fabricate an indigenous small scale model of an Airborne Wind Energy (AWE)
System.
2.To assemble all the components of the Airborne Wind Turbine.
3.To conduct experimental analysis in order to obtain optimum outcome.
Introduction:
Electricity is the physical phenomena associated with the presence and flow of electric charges.
It plays a vital role in our day to day life. It is used in industries and household appliances like fan,
television, computer, heater etc. Without electricity it is difficult to lead our life comfortably. In
present generation, the consumption of electricity is more than its production. Hence, huge
amount of electrical energy has to be produced to meet the present requirements. There are a
plenty of ways by which electrical energy can be produced which includes the usage of both
renewable and non renewable energy resources like solar energy, wind energy, nuclear energy etc.
This proposal deals with the production of electricity by using Magenn Air Rotor System (MARS)
which is one of an airborne wind energy systems. It requires very minimal wind to function and its
implementation saves the conventional energy sources as well as create pollution free environment.
Magenn Air Rotor System (MARS) is one of the lighter than air wind turbine that rotates about
horizontal axis in response to wind, thereby generating electrical energy at a lower cost. The
generated electricity can be

The Benefits Of Antitrust Law
Telser has also suggested that when productions require each entrant to pay fixed costs that cannot
be fully recouped by most of the participants unless means can be found to restrict total output
(and hence fix prices) and then divide total sales. (Machovec, 1995) Some form of race to the
bottom will happen unless a form of horizontal price fixing takes place with social benefits. The
most common examples provided by the literature are related with transportation industry, such, as
airlines and shipping carriers. (Lester T. G., 1994)

George T-Shirts Essay
Question 1: What are the possible financial outcomes if George orders 5,000 shirts, 7,500 shirts
and 10,000 shirts, respectively?
Based on the information given in the case, the expected number of attendees is:
E(x) = 80,000*0.25 + 50,000*0.5 + 20,000*0.25 = 50,000 people
Selling price per shirt: $100/12 = $8.33
Discount price: $1.5
Scenario 1:
Assumption: George orders 5000 T shirts; cost: $17,750; the number of attendees buy his T shirts
are 5%, 10% and 15% respectively
The possible financial outcomes under scenario 1 are as follows:
Scenario 2:

How much is perfect information worth to him?
George would use the information to maximize his profit. In question 1, George did not have
perfect information about the future, therefore his best bet was to take the conservative route
based on assumptions, and estimations. For instance, the profit he made based on the assumption
in scenario 1 (50,000 people would come, 10% will buy his T shirt) is $23,900. If he had perfect
information, say he knew that the number of attendees would be 80,000 and 10% of them would
buy a shirt from him, he would place an order of exactly 8000 T shirts.
Assumption: He pays $5 for one extra T shirt in excess of 7,500 pcs. * Cost = $25,250 + 500*$5 =
$27,750 * Revenue = 8,000*8.33 = $66,640 * Profit = $66,640 $27,750 = $38,890
Perfect information is worth: $38,890 $23,917 = $14,973
Question 4: Assume George makes T shirts for 30 events per year:
Should George quit his day job and become a T shirt entrepreneur full time?
I will need the following information to address this question. 1) How much is his income at his
current job? 2) Is the income from making T shirts more or less substantial than his current job?
3) Based on the question he potentially has an event every 12 days. How big are these events? Are
they all as lucrative as the current event? 4) What is the competitive landscape? Is he the only
special events T shirt maker? If not, how competitive is it? 5) Are there any potential changes

Pamela Meyer in her speech identify different concept of communication through which one can
identify a liar. The speaker attributes speech, body language, confidences and other distinctive
features that are used to identify a liar. She attributes day to day activities as the environments at
which liars may exist. The speaker s ideas are based on assumptions and personal components. The
ideas highlighted by the speaker could be applicable to some instances but may fail to reflect the
truthof the matter. There is need to analyze this concept with respect to various concepts. The
speaker effectively proofs her point but fails to acknowledge exceptions within her speech. The
essay will focus on the main points highlighted by the author and use them to identify the
authenticity of the speech. Perceptions and personal opinions could differ from the reality. The
manner in which a person presents his or her points could be either persuasive or misleading. In
Meyer s speech, she emphasizes on verbal language. As a means of identifying when one is lying,

The nature in which a person cooperates or relates will tell if they are a liar (Meyer, 2011). In this
case, a liar may fail to cooperate in an effect to divert attention or create a sense of unease to the

this instance, the speaker provides elements of truth. A person interacting with other parties in this

America Needs High School Incentive Programs To Help...
Throughout the lives of individuals, everyone imagines the dream job or the job that is going to
make the most money. Most of these jobs need to make it so a higher education like college is
needed to be able to even make it in the field. College is not by any means cheap, depending on
what college is chosen, yes it can be less money but it is still thousands of dollars by the time the
degree is earned. Many people that want to go to collegecannot afford it, therefore cannot reach the

This is only one thing students have to pay when going to college. Books and supplies are
another expense which can add up quickly because the books the professors require students to
buy are very expensive. Room and board is also very pricey, most of the time the colleges and
universities offer everything from the bed, to bathrooms and study areas for students.
Transportation cost can also rack up if the student lives off campus. Even if the student does live on
campus, some colleges allow cars and the students end up using them a lot for shopping or doing
activities outside of college. In the article State Financial Policies and College Student Persistence:
A National Study , Rong Chen and Edward P. St. John state that, State governments play an
important role in American higher education through the direct subsidy of public institutions. Over
the last half century, however, state funding of higher education has undergone significant
changes. Traditionally, state funds for higher education were mostly allocated to public
institutions to maintain low tuition for students and to promote equal access . In the past, the
government assisted in paying for a higher education. Equal access is what everyone wants to
have because people that do not have a steady flow of income or have a small amount of income
can still go to college and maybe get a better job than working a mill for a lifetime. The fact that

Great Leap Forward Essay
Great Leap Forward was a movement during China s second Five Year Plan led by Communist
Party of China from 1958 to 1960, in order to improve the current situation of poverty and
backwardness in China at that time. Although it started with a good intention, the result of the
Great Leap Forward was disappointing. It was totally a mistake made by Mao during the
exploration of socialist that it brought a disaster to the Chinese economy and people s standards of
living.
The causation of this failure event was complex and it is a topic worth many historians studying.
Many historians concluded that the failure of the Great Leap Forward was mainly because of the

The initiation of Great Leap Forward was based on the basic situation and the information
provided by individuals and collectives at that time in China. Before the launch of Great Leap
Forward, the current status of Chinese economy was quite optimistic. The development of
agricultural cooperatives was so rapid that the number of cooperatives increased almost 45 times
from 300 to over 14,000 in a short 2 year period. In addition, China had just achieved great
success in the First Five Year Plan. The average annual increase rate of the national income
reached over 8.9 percent from 1953 to 1957. These outcomes and achievement gave Mao an
impression that people have the capacity to complete the high indicators he set and made him feel
that the new climax for the socialist masses is coming and all the cadres should energetically lead
the movement in a planned way.
However, some individuals and local cadres were not honest about the output they made. People
used to tell the good news only and hide the bad news to please superiors. Data and output were
often exaggerated. For instance, the total food production in four provinces was reported to the
central government as 66.8 billion in 1952, which seemed unrealistic. Although people intended to

Analysis Of When The Lone Ranger And Tonto Fistfight In...
For decades discrimination has been continuously growing, being angled at minority groups. These
negative outlooks have created many barriers and disadvantages, with society, for those belonging
to different cultures. Each set of characters within the stories are created with different
backgrounds, but live with similar expectations and struggles. These barriers occur in day to day
activities and interactions, affecting individuals, and creating negativity. Paul K. Chappell once
said, To truly listen to others, we must develop empathy. If we do not empathize with people, we
cannot really hear what they are saying. When we do not listen with empathy, we hear only their
words (Chappell). White reading each short story, Amy Tan s Two Kinds, and Sherman Alexie s
When the Lone Rangerand TontoFistfight in Heaven, the reader is able to connect the stories
characters through race, culture, and ethnicity to create that feeling of empathy Chappell was trying
to introduce.
In the stories, two kinds and The Lone Ranger and Tonto Fistfight in Heaven, we see how the
families each are treated poorly because they are of different races. In two kinds the family is a
Chinese family. When moving to the United States Tan must change to look more like an
American girl so they cut her hair. Tan explains her change by saying, I now had hair the length
of a boys, with straight across bangs that hung at a slant two inches above my eyebrow (516).
Tans original look made her stand out too much compared to an American child. By cutting off
her hair she felt that she could finally become perfect (516). By explaining the drastic changes
they felt were needed Tan is showing how far individuals are willing to go in order to be
accepted. In The Lone Ranger and Tonto Fistfight in Heaven the characters is spoken poorly to
by an officer. When found driving around late at night the main character is told you should be
more careful where you drive, says the officer continuing with, your making people nervous. You
don t fit the profile of the neighborhood (35). The young man is being told that people are afraid
of him because of how he looks. The color of his skin or the length of his hair automatically make

Consumption Overpopulation and Its Effects on the Environment
Consumption Overpopulation
Think about a sign that says EARTH Max Capacity 10 billion. Based on what they have the
human population plans out parties. They have a lack of space and resources. Anyone who
would plan these parties would have to take in account for the amount of people that would have
to scrunch in with each other, and how many people would not have enough food to last the party.
Which basically makes it so the guests are down to a certain number. Our planet is a close
similarity to the already mentioned party. Just like how a large room can only offer a certain
amount of resources. Despite this idea, the concepts of overpopulation, and resource degradation
still are at large and are a risk.

Ultimately the behaviorisms of the commons amount to overusing the resources and misdistribution
of all the resources in the environment (Burke 2001). The very same Burke argues that the lack of
awareness about the topic of resource degradation and over consumption proves that Hardin s
theory is drastically flawed. The very first idea is the fatalistic belief program that block the actual
risk perception. Humans can not harm the Resource Base (p.449). The second premise is that the
complicity of the concerns regarding the environment blocks the individual awareness of risk. He
Concludes that a call for education and consensus building (P.472) in raising the environmental risk

Environmental risk perceptions also allowing loss aversion, unrealistic optimistic attitude, and
heuristic assist in understanding the way humans go towards their resource consumption problem.
Praterelli and Chiarelli go to resource overuse, and the degradation of the various resources. Also
not to mention the overpopulation of consumption from the loss aversion standpoint. The idea of
technology becomes a medium when it comes to avoiding the immediate losses although having the
long term or evolutionary factorials. On the flip side, Burke approaches the environment risk factors
from two risk theories; unrealistic happiness and heuristic sort of availability. The

The Fear Of Black Male Sexuality
Marquise Akbar The Fear of Black Male Sexuality in Baldwin s Going To See The Man
Schulman, Gary I. Race, Sex, and Violence: A Laboratory Test of the Sexual Threat of the Black
Male Hypothesis. American Journal of Sociology 79.5 (1974): 1260. Web. The potential for white
men to violently express attitudes of racism is studied to determine if the white male finds the
Black male sexually threatening and, if so, does this threat incite the proclivity for the white male
to act violently. Shulman studied 84 white, male, freshman and sophomore students at UC Santa
Barbara. According to the study, The subjects are young, educated, white men from stable homes
with no mental instability, whose values lean towards a liberal ideology. This experiment
considers Koval s psychoanalytic interpretation of white racism, based largely on the Oedipus
complex and Skolnick s belief that the conflict that fosters violent racism is a feeling of
powerlessness and insecurity in whites. Schulman s focus is to prove that a much larger population
is inclined to violent expressions of racism, and that this inclination is partially based on the
perceived sexual threat of the Black male. The experiment contrives a conflict requiring the
subjects to choose between cheating on a given task, which prevents the victims from being
shocked, or not cheating, thus shocking the victim The victims in the test conditions are a white

  • 3. Foster Care As A Temporary Solution Essay Foster care is one of the major issues still faced in this world today. According to Crosson Tower (2013), in the early 1800s, boarding homes were instituted with the idea of rescuing good children from bad parents. She noted that the idea of paying for foster homes to house children was renounced because agencies advocating foster careargued that it would lead to foster parents taking children for money rather than out of altruism. However, she also explained that the practice of paying for foster care emerged, and the government became involved regulating and administering the foster care system in the twentieth century. In addition, her research indicated foster care became progressively more common as the form of caring where the parents were unable to care for their children. Although foster care is designed to be a temporary solution, the nature of foster care today shows the complete opposite (Crosson Tower, 2013). The organization that will be discussed in this paper is going to expand on the issue of foster care and their advocacy efforts to combat the issue. The Human Service Agency For over 25 years, Devereux Florida has been recognized as an agency for administrating behavioral health, mental disabilities, and child welfare assistance to children and families (About Us, n.d., para. 1). • 6. What Role Does Reason Play In Determining The Content Of What Role Does Reason Play in Determining the Content of Morality Immanuel Kant and David Hume diverge in their ideas about the nature of morality and do not see eye to eye on how to determine whether or not an action is morally permissible. Kant holds that practical reason alone can be used to determine whether or not a line of behavior is moral, whereas Hume believes that reason is inconsequential to morality and that the way to determine whether an action is moral is to examine the sentiments that it provokes within us. Despite these differences in Kant and Hume s theories of moral philosophy, adherents of the two philosophers, nevertheless, for the most part agree on the contents of morality. However, though the moral rules that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For Kant, in order to determine the morality of a particular behavior it is necessary to be able to appraise that behavior rationally free of emotional coercion. According to his Universal Law Formulation (ULF) a moral act is one that we can rationally will that others carry out as well. By the same token, to behave in a way that is immoral is to conduct oneself in such a manner that we cannot rationally will that others comport themselves in. What Kant s reliance on reason as the ultimate determinant of morality means is that the moral rules constructed by Kantians are steadfast and unwavering. Granted it is admittedly possible for some Kantians to say that the moral rules generated from Kant s philosophy are able to accommodate extenuating circumstances, Kant s insistence on putting practical reason over empirical factors means that the ULF will either pass or fail a maxim consistently, regardless of circumstances. It follows from Kant s argument that all beings endowed with rational faculties will be able to use either the ULF or the Formula of Humanity to derive the same moral rules, regardless of the particular state of affairs they are faced with. Of course, it is certainly possible for an individual, say Shelly Kagan, to use the ULF to pass a maxim that say something like Shelly Kagan can kill whoever he wants, whenever he feels like it, such maxims, however, abuse the ULF by bringing in circumstantial factors the name Shelly Kagan for instance is a ... • 8. Once More To The Lake Analysis Once More To The Lake by E.B White features stylistic and rhetorical strategies such as literary tone and flashbacks. Through the use of White s flashbacks to his earlier childhood at the lake, the literary tone of nostalgia and reminiscent sentiment is set. The nostalgic attitude of the work contributes to the heartfelt tone of the piece as White transports the audience to a meaningful time in his life. Furthermore, the use of the various flashbacks helps White relate his childhood to his child, creating a parallel between White and his father, when he was his childs age. Through this sentimental tone, the overall meaning of the work is created as it displays how time does not change memories, even if time has changed the present day. Together, these stylistic choices affect the audience s reactions as the reader is able to identify how the lake represents the authors unfading and untouchable memories of his younger days. White s purpose for writing this piece was to describe how memories can not be changed despite how time changes everything around it. This can be seen when the author states that the middle road in the dusty field was gone, leaving two roads. Despite this change, the author states that the way led past the tennis court, and ... Furthermore, the piece was written during World War II, and highlights a better time in America s history, where there was no war and kids could be run free without the worries of an ongoing war. It can be seen that despite the anxiety of war, memories of the past remain tender, and remind the audience that time passes continuously, but fond memories will unfailingly be ... Of course, it is a factor but the gravity of earth compared to Europa is very different (Europa s gravity is very like our moon, which is 5/6 less than earth s gravity). A team member responded. The escape velocity (4) (the velocity required for an object to leave the gravitational field) to leave earth was one that my space craft needed to beat in order for my mission to be a success. Seeing the infinite darkness with specs of light from the stars gave me a whole new perspective. My first mission in space was a six month stay on the International Space Station. Just as the invisible hand falters, so is the case that the unregulated markets are incapable of solving all economic problems. In laissez faire economy, market models mainly monopolistic, perfect competition and oligopoly are expected to efficiently allocate resources for the welfare benefit of the society. However individualistic and selfish private interests divert the public benefits thereby prompting government intervention to correct the imperfection which may lead to disastrous economic impact. Competition failure or monopoly may result from natural monopoly where it costs incurred in production becomes lower when only one firm is involved in production than several firms producing the same output. In a monopolist market under production, higher prices become dominant contributing to market inefficiency. Winston cites cases of misuse of monopoly power can lead to market failures and sometimes may lead to acute shortage of essential commodities (130). Coordination failures by private markets are perceived to contribute significantly in inefficiency. Negative externalities like environmental pollution and positive externalities like focusing on public benefits and ignoring the private benefits significantly contribute to market failures. Fundamental questions have been raised to determine the appropriate time government intervention is required and the magnitude of inefficiency to warrant supposedly intervention or to let the market correct itself. Stiglitz, argued that inefficient government microeconomic policies to address the market gap often tends to exacerbate the existing problem or yield unproductive results in the economy (34). Our journey begins at baptism, and we continue on that journey towards eternal happiness. There are two main ideas that separate Catholicism from Christianity. The first is that Catholics believe in the Church as its teacher. This means that just as you might need a math teacher to explain your textbook in a way that you understand, we need the leaders of the Church (Pope, bishops, and priests) to interpret the Bible. We shouldn t take everything the Bible says literally, and these leaders help us to apply its teachings to our lives. The second main idea is that there are seven Sacraments (baptism, confession, communion, confirmation, marriage, annointing of the sick, Holy Orders) that we need to incorporate into our lives so that we may live the teachings of the Church. It is one thing to hear how we should live our lives, but it is another to do. That is where the Sacraments help. The Church has laws governing the reception of all the sacraments. Members are expected to try and understand the meaning of the Church s rituals and to develop a full sacramental lifestyle. (web) Catholicism has other teachings that are integral to the religion. This would indicate that Microsoft is outperforming Google, but these impressive numbers do not tell the story for the segment of Microsoft that is competing against Google. The operating profit margins during this period for Microsoft s online services business unit are embarrassing at best, with negative margins in 2009 and 2010. This system generally first segments the area of interest (lung) and then analyses the separately obtained area for nodule detection in order to examine the disease. The symbols within this play, powerful as they may be, do not jump out at the reader. They are instead embedded into the simplest objects and the relationship of the main characters. Martin McDonagh portrays his symbols with such an ironic eloquence; the dark, powerful symbols are inextricably linked in such a beautiful way, that once the reader makes the connections, the entire aura of the play changes. From symbols as simple as hot oil and a rocking chairto the mother daughter relationship of Mag and Maureen, the reader learns more and more about Irelandduring its time of troubles. Right off the bat, the reader is aware that Mag and Maureen s relationship is not a traditional mother daughter relationship. Any and all forms of love seem to be absent, there is no common ground, and abuse is evident. It is within this abuse that the first symbolis found hot oil. The stage directions state, Maureen slowly and deliberately takes her mother s shriveled hand, holds it down on the burning range, and starts slowly pouring some of the hot oil over it, as Mag screams in pain and terror (McDonagh 43). The figurine in her collection that she admired the most was her glass unicorn, which also served as a powerful representation of her oddness and physical defect. Throughout this essay I will further discuss the significance of the glass unicorn, by giving further detail on the connections made between Laura and the glass unicorn. Tennessee Williams illustrated the significance of the glass unicorn in a symbolic fashion. The glass collection Laura possessed and felt so fondly of, was more than just an oddity. Williams used the glass to represent the fragility in Laura and as a standard for the decorative items that women might possess. The glass unicorn was fragile and delicate, just as Laura was. The core concept that stands out of relational dialectics theory is contradiction (Griffin, 2009). A contradiction happens whenever you have two interdependent forces that mutually work against each other (Griffin). This is continually happening in relationships because they are in a constant state of flux. Relationships are constantly changing and there is no complete certainty. Baxter and Montgomery give the example of contradiction as a game of tug of war created through interpersonal conversations. Moreover, these theorists believe that contradictions are inevitable and can be used to constructively enhance the quality of relationships (Griffin). When researching, Baxter came across three reoccurring contradictions that come as a balancing act for relationships: integration separation, stability change, and expression nonexpression (Griffin, 2009). There are two ways to experience these dialectic contradictions, internally or externally. Internal dialectic refers to the contradictions within the relationship, whereas external dialectic refers to contradictions between the couple and the community (Griffin). Baxter and Montgomery regard the internal dialect for integration and separation as a contradiction between connectedness and separateness (Griffin, 2009). Only in the end of his essay does Freire focus more on his own system, and explain its privileges without resorting to the faults of the currents system, but even then he uses the latter tactic several times. The essay ends on a political note, calling the new revolutionaries to realize what the name they call themselves means, and to change the current ways not only on the outside, as they have done before, but also internally to make radical changes to their philosophy and their ideas about education. This concluding device stirs up some doubts as to the point of the whole essay. It might seem from the author s concluding point that the underlying purpose of the essay was not to expand on the more beneficial ways of education, but to criticize the ways of political leaders in his, or some other country. Nevertheless, the rest of the essay shows little evidence of such a plot, and this point is at best marginal. One of the passages that is impressive in its ability to appeal to the reader uses a few unique techniques. Introduction: Electricity is the physical phenomena associated with the presence and flow of electric charges. It plays a vital role in our day to day life. In present generation, the consumption of electricity is more than its production. Hence, huge amount of electrical energy has to be produced to meet the present requirements. There are a plenty of ways by which electrical energy can be produced which includes the usage of both renewable and non renewable energy resources like solar energy, wind energy, nuclear energy etc. This proposal deals with the production of electricity by using Magenn Air Rotor System (MARS) which is one of an airborne wind energy systems. It requires very minimal wind to function and its implementation saves the conventional energy sources as well as create pollution free environment. These barriers occur in day to day activities and interactions, affecting individuals, and creating negativity. Paul K. Chappell once said, To truly listen to others, we must develop empathy. If we do not empathize with people, we cannot really hear what they are saying. When we do not listen with empathy, we hear only their words (Chappell). White reading each short story, Amy Tan s Two Kinds, and Sherman Alexie s When the Lone Rangerand TontoFistfight in Heaven, the reader is able to connect the stories characters through race, culture, and ethnicity to create that feeling of empathy Chappell was trying to introduce. In the stories, two kinds and The Lone Ranger and Tonto Fistfight in Heaven, we see how the families each are treated poorly because they are of different races. In two kinds the family is a Chinese family. When moving to the United States Tan must change to look more like an American girl so they cut her hair. Tan explains her change by saying, I now had hair the length of a boys, with straight across bangs that hung at a slant two inches above my eyebrow (516). Tans original look made her stand out too much compared to an American child. By cutting off her hair she felt that she could finally become perfect (516). By explaining the drastic changes they felt were needed Tan is showing how far individuals are willing to go in order to be accepted. In The Lone Ranger and Tonto Fistfight in Heaven the characters is spoken poorly to by an officer. When found driving around late at night the main character is told you should be more careful where you drive, says the officer continuing with, your making people nervous. You don t fit the profile of the neighborhood (35). The young man is being told that people are afraid of him because of how he looks. • 51. Consumption Overpopulation and Its Effects on the Environment Consumption Overpopulation Think about a sign that says EARTH Max Capacity 10 billion. Based on what they have the human population plans out parties. They have a lack of space and resources. Anyone who would plan these parties would have to take in account for the amount of people that would have to scrunch in with each other, and how many people would not have enough food to last the party. Which basically makes it so the guests are down to a certain number. Our planet is a close similarity to the already mentioned party. Just like how a large room can only offer a certain amount of resources. Despite this idea, the concepts of overpopulation, and resource degradation still are at large and are a risk. The concept of the word ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Ultimately the behaviorisms of the commons amount to overusing the resources and misdistribution of all the resources in the environment (Burke 2001). The very same Burke argues that the lack of awareness about the topic of resource degradation and over consumption proves that Hardin s theory is drastically flawed. The very first idea is the fatalistic belief program that block the actual risk perception. Humans can not harm the Resource Base (p.449). The second premise is that the complicity of the concerns regarding the environment blocks the individual awareness of risk. He Concludes that a call for education and consensus building (P.472) in raising the environmental risk of awareness. Comparison and Contrast Environmental Environmental risk perceptions also allowing loss aversion, unrealistic optimistic attitude, and heuristic assist in understanding the way humans go towards their resource consumption problem. Praterelli and Chiarelli go to resource overuse, and the degradation of the various resources. Also not to mention the overpopulation of consumption from the loss aversion standpoint. The idea of technology becomes a medium when it comes to avoiding the immediate losses although having the long term or evolutionary factorials. On the flip side, Burke approaches the environment risk factors from two risk theories; unrealistic happiness and heuristic sort of availability. The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 52. The Fear Of Black Male Sexuality Marquise Akbar The Fear of Black Male Sexuality in Baldwin s Going To See The Man Schulman, Gary I. Race, Sex, and Violence: A Laboratory Test of the Sexual Threat of the Black Male Hypothesis. American Journal of Sociology 79.5 (1974): 1260. Web. The potential for white men to violently express attitudes of racism is studied to determine if the white male finds the Black male sexually threatening and, if so, does this threat incite the proclivity for the white male to act violently. Shulman studied 84 white, male, freshman and sophomore students at UC Santa Barbara. According to the study, The subjects are young, educated, white men from stable homes with no mental instability, whose values lean towards a liberal ideology. This experiment considers Koval s psychoanalytic interpretation of white racism, based largely on the Oedipus complex and Skolnick s belief that the conflict that fosters violent racism is a feeling of powerlessness and insecurity in whites. Schulman s focus is to prove that a much larger population is inclined to violent expressions of racism, and that this inclination is partially based on the perceived sexual threat of the Black male. The experiment contrives a conflict requiring the subjects to choose between cheating on a given task, which prevents the victims from being shocked, or not cheating, thus shocking the victim The victims in the test conditions are a white male, a white male known to be sexually involved with a Black female, a ... • 53. Super Bent Research Paper Coffee is a Drug and Bent Spoons are a Conflict Have you ever experienced a moment where you wake up and literally all of your spoons are bent? I don t mean one, I mean every single one of your spoons are super bent. Every spoon is bent at a 90 degree angle. They re metal spoons, so it must have been something the size of a pine tree that bent them. Additionally, their 90 degree angle bend must mean they were bent by some robot, perhaps under orders from a puppy cartel on the sun who ordered for the illegal immigration of pine trees over the Swiss border, for some reason, using your spoons. The operative had to be someone with empathy towards the plants, but skill, and a cool, collected attitude. It had to have been a plant robot. Who could... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
