The Italian Campaign For World War II
The Italian Campaign The Italian Campaign put Allied troops in Europe. Lesser objectives of the
invasion included a chance to capitalize on the collapse of Italian resistance; to immediately use Allied
forces; to engage German forces that could be sent to Russia and northern France; to take control of
airfields that could be used for bombing missions; and to gain control of the Mediterranean.
Casablanca Conference Planning: Believing the North African campaign would be over quickly,
American and British leaders began discussing their next move. While the British favored pushing
north through Sicily and Italy, the Americans wanted a direct, cross Channel attack. Since this
required detailed discussions, a conference between Roosevelt, Churchill, and their senior leadership
was scheduled. The two leaders chose Casablanca for the meeting. Casablanca Conference The Talks:
The talks consisted mostly of planning an invasion of southern Europe. It was felt that invading Italy
would take Benito Mussolini s troops out of the war and force Germany to shift forces. This would
weaken the Nazi position in France, allowing for a later invasion. Operation Husky The main forces
for the invasion of Sicily were the U.S. 7th Army under Patton and the British Eighth Army under
Montgomery. The invasion began on July 10, 1943, with combined air and sea landings involving
150,000 troops, 3,000 ships and 4,000 aircraft, all aimed at the southern shores of the island.

Relationship Between Fathers and Sons Essay
Both poems My Papa s Waltz by Theodore Roethke and Those Winter Sundays by Robert Hayden are
poems in which the speaker (a son in both cases) attempts to explain his complex relationship with his
father. It seems that the two poets are reflecting back in their early lives as young boys and showing
different appreciation toward their father. In my interpretation My Papa s Waltz is about a boy and that
is excited that his father got home to play with him. Only problem is the speakers father is drunk and it
hard to enjoy himself but he held on because the unconditional love he has for him, as the line says
The Whiskey on your breath / could make a boy dizzy; / But I hung like death: (1 2 3). However,
Those Winter Sundays is more ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Also is a sign of being responsible and not indolent.
The impression that I get from My Papa s Waltz is that the boy s father is an alcoholic and
irresponsible. I say this because as the father and the boy were playing around in the kitchen The
unconscious father could of drop a hot pan that the mother could have been cooking on and cause
serious damage. That to me shows that the father don t really think about the possibilities. On the
contrary Those Winter Sundays Sundays too my father got up early (1) shows that the father is a hard
workingman, that everyday of the week he is up early with cracked hands that ached / from labor in
the weekday weather made (3 4). The speaker s father is a man that did hard labor to keep heat in the
house and also made sure his son was looking sharp for example, polished my good shoes as well
(12). Overall he was very responsible and loving even though the speaker didn t think so at the time
seeing that he didn t show appreciation and no one ever thanked him (5).
When it comes to the mood the speakers portray different attitudes towards their fathers. In My Papa s
Waltz the speakers mood is positive while the poet reflect back negatively and in Those Winter
Sundays the speaker attitude is like whatever and negative while the poet also reflect back an realizes
that his father was a

Natural Gas Grills
Natural gas grills eliminate the cost of buying propane by plugging directly into your natural gas line.
Natural gas is a cheaper option and also environmentally, a better option because it is classified as a
greenhouse gas. The initial cost of gas plumbing and installation can be expensive, but you do save
money over time. Size is one thing you need to consider when buying an outdoor grill. How big is
your patio or deck where the grill is gonna go? Also, are you the average griller, cooking mostly
chicken and steak? Or do you grill bigger meats more regularly? Obviously the size of the grill
matters, so really evaluate your options. A grill s primary square inches refers to the size of the main
cooking grate. The higher the number, the

Modern Soccer Research Paper
Emergence of Modern Soccer
The sport of soccer is traced back more than 2,000 years ago to ancient China. There are some other
places that also claims that they started the game of soccer and they are Greece, Rome, and parts of
Central America.
The place that really transitioned football the game that we now know as soccer is England. In
October 1863 is the year that the game of soccer was actually established, eleven representatives from
London clubs and schools met at the Freemason s Tavern to set up common fundamental rules to
control the matches amongst themselves. It is said that the English also recorded the first uniform
rules of the game, they forbid tripping opponents and touching the ball with your hands. As the game
of soccer developed the more rules that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Then I found out that the leading exporter for soccer players in the world is actually Brazil even
though Europe is the core economic of soccer. It is said this is because of the Brazilian players
predominantly fluid and imaginative style of playing the game of soccer. This is crazy to me but about
5000 Brazilians play professional soccer outside of Brazil, which is a very outrageous number of
soccer players that are playing professional soccer all around the world. One of the reason that Brazil
has so many soccer players is because they are inspired by the success of Pele and Ronaldo. In Brazil
there are 500 professional clubs and those clubs employ about 23,000 players. Since there is so many
teams the individual markets are small and the pay is low for all the teams except for the top ones. It is
stated that, 90 percent of Brazilian players earn less than 100 euros per month (Bellos). Brazil exports
so many players to the world because of the poor clubs which means poor pay so the players would
rather go somewhere else where they can make more

The Demographic Transition Theory
Unlike society a few decades before, the life expectancy has increased and now America is seeing an
exponential growth to the elderly population. There are many factors that could be the cause of this.
Looking at the demographic transition theory in conjunction with the Malthusian theory brought
valuable insight for me. The demographic theory says there are four stages to population growth that
are predictable. Those who are in their late 80 s and above were capable of seeing all four of these
stages in America. As they aged and the stages for population advanced so did technology. Malthusian
theory claims that there are three factors that prevents the human population exceed its carrying
capacity, which are food, disease, and war. Those who lived through the four stages of America were
lucky enough to see technology advance to prevent those factors in being lethal to our population. It
became possible for adults to live on to see their grandchildren and eventually their great
grandchildren. However, having life for so long isn t always the best. There s a quote from the movie
The Dark Knight which I believe applies to this situation, You either die a hero or live long enough to
see yourself become the villain. . This quote is evident in the film Living Old , because eventually you
reach an age where your body and mind regresses, which hurts your love ones. For example, in the
film Mary Ann DiBerardino daughter of Chester and Rosemary Haak has suffered seeing her parents

House Voices Essays
House Voices
I will start with my new house. It is down the street from where my grandma and great aunt live. The
house has two levels, the main floor and the basement. There are two bedrooms, the office, the
bathroom, the living room with a fireplace, dinning room, and the kitchen on the main level. The
basement contains the laundry room, the family room, a bathroom, and a large storage area. The house
was for sale because the old woman who lived in it before us had died in the summer heat while her
air conditioner was broken. Her neighbors found her in her house. It was later discovered that she had
been dead for a few days. She was lying on the floor, in the only hallway in the house, just beyond the
bathroom door.

I started having fun with it, all over again. Then I lost interest in it. It found a new home in a box that
was placed in my closet, and forgotten. A year later, we moved into our new house. A few months after
we were fully moved in (though we still have boxes upon boxes of old stuff in the basement, which
we do not plan on unpacking for lack of shelf space).
I had started school at Topeka West High School, got settled in with everything, and on came the
homework. One night, while working on an essay for my Junior English class, I heard a faint,
annoying, sound. It sounded mechanical, but I could not make out what it was. The never ending,
irritating noise, similar to that of the neighbor s barking dog, continued long enough to let me walk
around and attempt to find it. I wandered into the storage room, where the noise continued to grow
louder and louder. Finally, I neared where the noise was the loudest, which was, of course, the old
box.
I grabbed the box and brought it around the blanket wall into my room, so I could look inside of it at
my desk. Once I had opened it, I discovered that the noise was coming from my old Talk Boy Jr. I
laughed when I noticed that an old shoe box, filled with Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Jurassic
Park figures, had shifted its position. The shoe box landed on the play button of the Talk Boy Jr.,
making it repeat an old voice n static recording. I pulled the Talk Boy Jr. out of the box

Janie And Her Husband Analysis
Janie And Her Husbands
From the beginning of the novel it is modern time where Janie is at, then she flashes back to her old
life with Nanny. Nanny helped Janie get her first husband, Logan. She has two more husbands after
him. Janie never knew what love was, she experienced abusive love, love she thought was true love,
and actual true love. So why not compare her husbands and see which husbands she experienced
abusive and real love with.
Let s start off with Logan, his full name is Logan Killicks and he was Janie s first husband. He was an
unattractive older man who was very abusive towards Janie. Nanny had Janie marry him because she
thought he was a good man and was rich. He made Janie work like a peasant. The author states, Janie!

Power Of Magic In A Midsummer Night s Dream
The Power of Magic in A Midsummer Night s Dream One of the most important elements of
Shakespeare s A Midsummer Night s Dream is the contrast between the real world and a world lived
in by fairies, and other magical beings and forces. Magic is a powerful and useful tool for the
characters that can use it. Some characters abuse the power of magic, while others are more
responsible in how they use it. Shakespeare plays with the boundaries between fantasy and reality.
Like the reality and illusion and the mirrored world of fair and human. He looks at into man s conflict
with characteristics of human behavior. A Midsummer Night s Dream contains many supernatural
elements for example magic and transformation. Oberon is one of the characters that abuse the power
of magic. Oberon is the King of the Fairies, his magic affects his own life, and the lives of other
characters and everyone experience his magic differently. Oberon is married to Titania, Queen of the
Fairies, who got an Indian boy from her friend who passed away. Oberon desperately wants the Indian
boy to be one of his followers, but the boy is one of Titania followers and she will not give him up.
This is when Oberon decides to use magic so he could win the Indian boy. Oberon uses the magic of a
flower to make his wife, Titania fall in love with the creature she sees. Oberon says, Fetch me that
flower; the herd I shew d thee once: / The juice of it in sleeping eye lids laid / Will make or man or

Sibling A
Listening is an essential part of dialogue. If properly exercise, it allows us to absorb information
within messages and exchange thoroughly processed feedback. This exchange offers an effective
communication between parties. The lack of effective listening results in miscommunication,
unessential dialogue and a waste of resources. Here we will discuss the relationship between siblings.
The siblings in this case have a long distance relationship. Sibling A is married with no children and
sibling B has two children, but is separated from her husband. Two years ago sibling B reached out to
sibling A about a pending separation from her husband. The major concerns were expressed via phone

that they are fully engaged. In addition, the listener should refrain from interrupting the speaker until
they have completed their message. The listener should keep in mind the rule of replying to statements
before changing the subject (Verderber, K. S., Verderber, R. F. 2013, pg. 213 214). In addition, Dr.
Passmore recommends for Empathetic Listening , that the listener reflect the emotion or perceived
emotion to the speaker so that they genuinely feel that the listener is listening (2014). Furthermore Dr.
Mc Naughton, adds it is important to let the listener know what resources or help the listener can
provide. Sibling A waits until sibling B is done providing all relevant information. Sibling B then
lowers her voice to demonstrate sensitivity to sibling B s situation. Sibling A let sibling B know that
her feelings are impotant and they are with cause due to the history with her husband. However,
gathering the facts sibling A tells sibling B, her husband has provided for the family since the
separation and she is aware that he is applying for citizenship. Therefore, sibling A recommends
sibling B speak with her husband to clarify what information will specifically be needed for the
documents and sibling A can research how the documents contents can be controlled. Understanding

Historical Development Of Haute Couture
This essay will be considering the historical development of haute couture by analysing Charles
Frederick Worth s (father of haute couture) key factors in the success of haute Couture. I will then
discuss Coco Chanel s thriving impact on haute couture as well as ready to wear caused by the second
world war. Saint Laurent s drift to ready to wear and the high street fashion system will also be
discussed in order to answer if haute couture is relevant in fashion today. The books I will be
analysing and referencing are A Cultural History of Fashion in the 20th Century by Bonnie English,
Couture by Ruth Lynam, How Fashion Works by Gavin Waddell. Which will thoroughly breakdown
the evolution and historical development of fashion by cultural, economic, environmental and social
changes to finally come into a conclusion.
The attraction to Englishman Charles Frederick Worth s garments caused by royalty was the origin to
the relevance and recognition of haute Couture in the 19th Century. Ruth Lynam, editor of Couture
concludes the growth of Worth s wealth, she states: The princess was the instrument of good fortune
for Charles Worth... (Lynam, 1972:54) What Lynam seems to be stating is the pecuniary advantage the
Princess Pauline de Metternich supported with her admiration for his creations. The promotion of his
designs are partly owed to the princess however without the recognition perhaps haute couture wouldn
t have been relevant or would not have been as effective. The

Essay On Tribal Masks
Since the ancient times, tribal masks play a huge role in the traditional ceremonies and dance regalia
of Native American tribes. The Northwest Coast Indians are the most prominent native mask makers
who carve intricate ceremonial/dance masks. Believing that the world is led by supernatural beings or
spirits, several cultures created masks worn ceremonially to connect and appease with these forces.
Two of the prominent Native American masks are the Iroquois False Face masks and the Hopi
Kachina masks.
False Face Masks of the Iroquois
The False Face masks are regarded as living and are fed with tobacco. They are characterized by
distorted features with deep set eyes accented by metal. They have long white or black hair from the
horse s tail. Their noses are crooked and bent. Tobacco is tied onto the hair above the forehead.
False Face masks are made primarily from basswood. The man making the mask is guided by the
spirit to discover the right wood in the forest for the false face mask. The masks were thought to be
inhabited by the spirit of the tree. The spirit stimulates the distinctive elements of the design in which
the product represents the spirit itself. As it is carved from a living tree, the mask is removed when
completed.
The face is painted based on the time of day it was cut as well as the meaning of the mask. ... Show

Each member had a spirit that directed its mask carving from a live tree. The False Face masks are
used in healing rituals, invoking the spirit of an old hunchbacked man that offers him corn mush and
tobacco. The invoked protects people from fierce winds and illness. Among certain Iroquois, a mask is
seen as alive, traditional, and powerful regardless of whether or not invocations have been made.
Thus, the mask is regarded as a living representation of a spirit. Whenever the mask is not worn, it is
considered as a living

A Survey Of Secondary Care Pharmacist Independent
A Survey of Secondary Care Pharmacist Independent Prescribers in the West Midlands
Proposal summary
The implementation of pharmacist independent prescribing is an emerging area in healthcare with the
potential to optimise access to medicines. However the actual role of independent prescribers [IP] in
practice is poorly understood and under represented in literature. Current interest in funding for
pharmacist IP by Health Education West Midlands [HEWM] is a major driver behind this research. It
is hoped that this research may be used to help support future investment policies within the West
Midlands [WM].

However non medical prescribing [NMP] is a growing area within healthcare that has evolved over
the last fifteen years. The aims of NMP are to improve patient care, allow easier patient access to
medicines, increase patient choice, to better utilise the skills of healthcare professionals and introduce
flexible team working across the NHS.1 NMP was first considered following The Crown Report 1999,
in which it was suggested that specific professional groups including pharmacists should prescribe
from a restricted formulary for specific conditions.2 This was followed by the NHS Plan 20003 which
set out policy for the development of NMP. Legal changes in 2003 allowed for the development of
supplementary prescribing [SP] for pharmacists.3
By the spring of 2005 there were over 240 pharmacist SP4 and the barriers to SP began to be
recognised. As stated by Hughes et al these included financial and organisational problems, a general
lack of awareness into the role as well as over bureaucracy of the clinical management plan.5
Consultations in 2005 evaluated the option of further extending the prescribing role of pharmacists to
allow patients greater access to healthcare services and pharmacist knowledge.1 Legal changes in
2006 introduced independent prescribing for pharmacists, enabling the prescribing of any licensed
medicine for any medical condition

The Theory Of Consciousness And The Body
When the word consciousness is used regarding human beings, the word itself usually implies that
those individuals are conscious of being conscious. Many individuals assume that the mind, the brain,
and the body react as one. But the idea of the mind is not related to the concept of the brain or the
body. These differences allow philosophers to determine a people s consciousness in the world around
them. Individuals derive the concept of consciousness from their experience because consciousness
itself comes from one s youth. Consciousness can be described as an individual s ability to become
aware of his or her surroundings including both the external and internal world which they are present
in. The idea of consciousness can be explained by obtaining something simple and changing it into
something complex, also known as the emergent property. The process of emergent property can be
achieved in two steps that allow philosophers to determine who and what possess consciousness.
The process of changing matter into energy, which is the first step of the emergent property, combines
subatomic particles in a specific structure to form atoms. The final step of the emergent property
process occurs when those atoms combine to form a more complex form. In humans, as a whole, the
most complex combination of atoms develops to process the brain s activity and is known as the
central nervous system. But because the mind is not correlated with the brain, humans can be aware of
their

Job Evaluation, Performance Management, And Compensation
In order to lay a foundation for a balanced, unbiased and fair system of pay, job evaluation has to be in
place. While people may think the focus is on the employee in the position, this could not be further
from the truth. The focus is primarily based on the job itself. The contribution of the employee is
covered in performance appraisal (Nigro Kellough, 2014, p. 103). In most organizations where work
is being performed, it is structured rather discretely and certain tasks are set into identifiable jobs. Job
evaluation is to enhance efficiency and equity in a variety of core personnel functions (p. 103). It is
very useful when involving recruitment, examination, selection, performance management, and

103). This system simplifies the employee appraisal process and ensures that the development of the
pay system is equal (p. 103). With any system and organization there are issues, advantages and
disadvantages. This research will also focus on the methods involving job analysis and evaluation, job
pricing, and the issues in the public sector pay policies. The advantages and disadvantages of four
different job evaluation methods will also be thoroughly discussed. Job analysis plays a vital role in a
lot of human related activities, but every process that has interventions, has limitations. According to
Michael Armstrong (2003), job analysis provides first hand job related information, it provides
valuable job related data that helps managers (p. 173). Managers analyze the duties and
responsibilities of a particular job, risks and hazards involved in it, and skills and abilities required to
perform the job (p. 173). One of the most important activities it helps with is, creating suitable jobs for
employees. When HR fits the right person, in the right job, it tests the skills, understanding and
competency of the HR manager. It helps them understand what type of person is suitable for the
position (p. 173). Armstrong (2003) provides information regarding job analysis and several helpful
tips with establishing operative hiring practices and training needs such as, who should be hired,
where they should be placed, when to convey training and how, what type of

William Wordsworth Syntactic And Semantic Features
The Syntactic and semantic Features In the first stanza, the poet introduces the attractive and striking
grove where he enjoys nature and at the same time also has sad thoughts . The second stanza explains
why there are sad thoughts . The reason is because nature linked human soul to her fair works, and the
soul run through me and the thought of what man has made of man makes me grief. Wordsworth
draws the phrase to her fair works from the last of sentence to the first, which emphasizes the fair
works of nature.
We already mentioned that Wordsworth speaks highly of nature, here through the syntactical
deviation, we can see how Wordsworth appreciates and enjoys nature s beauty and harmony. The next
deviation appears in the third ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They hopped and played. Here again the poet uses personification to show how the birds are in accord
with nature and how happy they are. Now let s pay more attention to the second line Their thoughts I
cannot measure . In ordinary life, we usually will express it in this way I cannot measure their
thoughts . The object their thoughts is marked. On the one hand, it shows once again Wordsworth likes
to put nature in the first place.
On the other hand, it is coherent with the whole stanza, because the focus is on the birds. If putting I in
the first, then the coherence will not be so good. The fifth stanza is devoted to the budding twigs .
Personification is used again. We see the twigs spread out their fan to catch the air and the twigs must
be in pleasure as well. In these three stanzas, the flowers, birds and twigs are all personified and they
are all greatly pleasant in the harmonious natural world.
The sixth stanza comes back to the sad thoughts of the poet. After the descriptions of the beauty and
harmony of nature, when we think again what man has made of man , we cannot but lament. The
sorrow here reaches its climax. So here the poet uses a rhetorical question Have I not reason to lament/
what man has made of man? to show his powerful feelings.

Human Nature In Joseph Conrad s Heart Of Darkness
Joseph Conrad s incredibly erudite, and lengthy prose in his, Heart of Darkness, challenges the reader
to scrutinize human nature in all walks of life. While written in 1899, Heart of Darkness still serves to
be a novella for the ages. With exceptional flexibility to a numerous amount of human issues Conrad s
novella is easily paralleled with countless contemporary affairs; reaching from international, national,
social, and personal matters (Conrad). Not only recently, but for many years we have been fighting in
the middle east. Very recently, militants of the Islamic State executed seventy civilians in a Syrian
town (Deeb, abcnews.com). As Conrad explores humankind s evil innate desires in the Heart of
Darkness through violence, hypocrisy, and our interior world one can straightforwardly connect such
acts with behaviors articulated in Syria these past couple days. This devoted band called itself the
Eldorado Exploring Expedition, and I believe they were sworn to secrecy. Their talk, however, was the
talk of sordid buccaneers; it was reckless without hardihood, greedy without audacity, and cruel
without courage; there was not an atom of foresight or of serious intention in the whole batch of them,
and they did not seem aware these things are wanted for the work of the world. To tear treasure out of
the bowels of the land was their desire, with no more moral purpose at the back of it then there is in
burglars breaking into a safe. With this quote pulled from part one, we

The Characteristics Of Odysseus In Homer s Odyssey
The main character in the Odyssey, Odysseus, displays many valuable traits throughout the novel,
which helped support the main idea that cunning, endurance, and loyalty are more valuable than brute

Marketing Strategy of Mcdonald s Corporation
McDonald s Corporation is in the fast food industry and operates more than 24,000 restaurants in 111
countries worldwide. In the United States, it has 12,450 US outlets, most of them in stand alone
locations that generate a 42% share of the nation s fast food hamburger business. Corporate
communications states that a new McDonald s restaurant opens every 8 hours (McDonald s 1999).

Essay On Mark Twain
Mark Twain once stated, Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry and narrow mindedness. This quote
should let us all know how much travel actually meant to him. In his life, he did a lot of traveling and
exploring. From a newspaper apprentice to a pilot Mark Twain lived a rather adventurous life .
First, most people think that your childhood can have a pleasant or unpleasant effect on your
adulthood. Mark Twain was born Samuel Clemens on November 30, 1835 in the frontier village of
Florida, Missouri ( Mark Twain Biography.com ). He spent his boyhood in nearby Hannibal, on the
bank of the Mississippi River, observing its busy life, fascinated by its romance, but chilled by the
violence and bloodshed it bred.(28 Cox) During his childhood he became exposed to slavery, at one
point he actually discovered a body of a drowned slave. At 12, Twain would actually have to drop out
of school due to the sudden death of his father John Clemens; he would become a young apprentice (
MarkTwainBiograpgy.com ). Twain wasn t even a teen and basically had to become the man of the
house not by choice but basically by force, this more than likely made Twain the hard worker that he
was.
Next, one could say you should treat every job as if it is actually your career, as if you would be doing
it for the rest of your life. Mark Twain had several different jobs. He began work as an apprentice then
a compositor with local printers, contributing occasional squibs.(125 MacArthur) At 17 his comic

The Angels Pariah Versus The Prince Of Angels
On that fateful night the battle to end all battles started. The angels pariah versus the prince of angels.
The battle to shake the world. The battle fought for the humans. But this is not were the story starts,
not really anyways. My name is Nadie Luccius and I am the one and only angel to tear off his wings
and plunge down to Earth all for the sake of being human. This is the story of the war between
humans and angels and it started one year ago.
The angel Nadie walked on the path of heaven being blamed for the misfortune in the battle against
demons, after all every place needs a pariah to take the blame, even heaven. The angel looked down at
Earth and looked at the humans marveling at their complexity, their weakness, and their strength.
Nadie couldn t help but to marvel at them. Most angels saw the humans as weak hairless apes, but
Nadie loved them. Most of all he wanted to be one.
The angels liked to refer to Nadie as the next Lucifer, but he was the exact opposite. Lucifer was cast
down to hell because he could not love humans more than God, and therefor defied his father. On the
other hand Nadie loved and adored the humans.
An angel called out to Nadie
Hey Nadie Michael wants to speak with you. The angel said.
What does he want Leviaten? Nadie questioned.
Your guess is as good as mine Nadie but he seemed pissed of so, you better hurry your ass up. The
now named angel, Leviaten answered.
Don t tell me what to do; I still out rank you. Nadie said.

Why Do Scientists Come Up Hypotheses
This paper will be talking about hypotheses and theories that have been proven over time with the
experience of how scientists came up with their own hypothesis and proved them or have other people
prove them wrong. Its goes over claims, evidence and reasonings scientists gave to prove their
hypothesis correct. Russian Chemist A.I. Oparin and English Geneticist J.B.S. Haldane were the first
scientists involved and conceived the Primordial Soup Hypothesis. It was developed in the year 1924.
These scientists claimed that the building blocks of the life came from one simple molecule that was
formed from the atmosphere (without oxygen) and was called organic soup . Now,evidence suggests
that the first organisms were autotrophs. Two new scientists, Chemists Stanley Miller and Physicist
Harold Urey, did a famous experiment 30 years later in 1950. Their experiment consisted of mixing
gases to present primitive earth. the gases used were:Methane,Ammonia,Water,Hydrogen, and no
oxygen, Then they electrocuted the mixture to signify ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Pets Are Prone At Superficial Skin Injuries
Pets are prone to superficial skin injuries and most owners will encounter a situation at some point in
time involving a cat, dog or other pet that s sustained a wound. Unfortunately, many dog and cat
owners do not know how to properly clean and disinfect a wound or the owner will assume that the
injury will heal on its own, leading to a complete lack of wound care. And too often, a situation with a
wounded dog or cat will end in the veterinarian s office with a pet who s experiencing a great deal of
pain and discomfort from the cut, gash or sore. It s important that pet owners understand how to
perform basic first aid on their animals. It s part of responsible animal ownership. You wouldn t ignore
a wound on your child, so a dog or cat s wound should be tended to as well, explained Dr. Michael
Levine, DVM. If an injury is not treated properly, infection will result. Signs of infection include pain,
swelling and redness, In cases where an infection has been left to fester and spread unchecked, the pet
may need to go under anesthesia for a complete cleaning of the wound site and removal of tissue that s
been damaged by the infection. In severe cases, the infection can spread from the skin s surface, down
into the deep tissues of the muscle and even to the bone. If the infection encounters the circulatory
system, the infection can turn systemic, resulting in an often deadly condition known as sepsis. To
avoid infection, all cuts, scrapes, sores and other

Inequality And Violence During The United States
We are all unequal, therefore, build an unequal society, but not together, but superiors are responsible
for building it; those belonging to the elite. In the approach taken by the author of Inequality violence
in the U.S. the capitalist system, makes us see the dark side of society, distinguishing the types of
violence in the author s opinion, they are worrying. Violence is closely linked to economic
inequalities, ethnic or gender caused in most cases by a capitalist and militarist system exacerbated.
It is not a violent act placing toxic waste in minority communities or expose the humblest workers to
harmful conditions for their health and that of your family? In America it is given more priority to
economic violence to peace, over 80 percent of the U.S. population is in the bottom four categories
middle, working, working poor, and underclass. Even the 14 percent in the upper middle class depend
on wages (Barbara, H. 2005 ). Politicians, policy makers and big corporations also advocate and
contribute to the increasing of the inequality, and in their actions they harm many lives, increasing
even more the poverty, and when there s no human development thanks to all the obstacles, there will
be violence because they put impediments to their personal and social grow.
To have a development as a person needs to have a greater human capacity to maximize their social,
economic, cultural and political circles, and protect them for future generations through hard work,

Civic Engagement Essay
This course has made me well versed in the teaching modules needed to become an effective teacher
in the twenty first century.Teachers have dual responsibilities in this generation. Teaching has evolved
from simply making sure that the students are learning the subject matter of preparing them for
survival in the 21st Century Learning. This necessitates engagement in Digital Participatory Culture,
and the importance of Civic Engagement. Students are entering an age where they are being asked to
possess more skills than ever to compete for positions against other students around the world.

It can be characterized by Jane L. David s article on Service Learning and Civic Participation, Projects
with civic engagement goals expose students to social problems and to public agencies responsible for
the amelioration of these problems. For example, instead of organizing a food drive as an end in itself
a traditional form of community service students might use this activity as a springboard to research
and discuss how effectively government agencies at various levels respond to hunger (David 1). Civic
participation creates an environment for students to undertake a community focused activity allows
them to become active participants in their community. Another important conclusion that comes from
Civic Participation is its connection to Self actualization, This study provides a description of how
digital natives conceptions of civic action and communication differ from those of previous
generations. For the majority of the 20th century, Dutiful Citizenship reflected the dominant belief that
civic engagement is a matter of duty or obligation. For digital natives, however, citizenship is not a
duty. Their civic actions originate from their personally expressive politics (esco.com 2).I conclude
from this that students need activities that engage not only their Civic Responsibility but also their

Beowulf, The Great Warrior
In the first speech, (pages 42 43; lines 260 285) Beowulf has just arrived on the beach of the Danes,
King Hrothgar s territory. An unnamed coastguard is obviously intimidated by the proportion, design,
and occupants of Beowulf s craft, yet he stops the warrior to ask his business and inquire after his
heritage. Thus, the hero of Beowulf, the great warrior himself, introduces himself to the coastguard
and in doing so, to the readers (or oral audiences of the time). Beowulf mentions his famous relatives,
including that they are, King Hygelac s hearth companions and his, noble father was known as
Edgetheow, a front fighter famous among nations... (Longman 42; lines 261 263). Beowulf is careful
in everything he mentions, whether regarding his lineage or Hrothgar, to point to the great deeds and
heroism of them, rather than himself. The warrior certainly knows how to speak with reverence and
eloquence to the watchman to gain himself and his soldiers passage into Hrothgar s hall, saying, [i]t is
with loyal and true intention that we come to seek you lord the son of Healfdene, guardian of the
people (Longman 42; lines 267 268). Beowulf continues on the acknowledge King Hrothgar s power
and flatter the coastguard s master mentioning they have a, great errand to the glorious hero, the
Shepherd of the Danes... (Longman 42 43; lines 270 271). Beowulf upholds an incredibly

Architecture serves a variety of purposes in the world. This can be seen through the architectural
design of buildings as well as the materials used for their development. Greek and Roman architecture
is an excellent example of this development, and the evolution of Greek architecture follows a distinct
pattern; that is, and it developed organically to serve the needs of the Greeks through various phases of
Greek history. Each style of architecture carries its own unique and separate characterizations, yet

The Arch and Dome were the most distinctive features of the ancient Roman architecture. Roman
buildings significantly differed from those of Greek and so the new architectural style was created.
Mainly because of high population densities and wealth in the cities, the ancient Romans discovered
their own architectural solutions. In particular, they applied arches and vaults as well as building
materials enabling them to attain the unprecedented progress in the construction of public structures.
The Colosseum, the basilicas, the Baths of Caracalla and the baths of Diocletian, the aqueducts of
Rome, the Pantheon, are all relevant proofs of genuinely Roman architectural innovations. These
impressive buildings all served important public functions, In contrast to Greek aesthetic axioms;
these objectives were attained with a wide scope of public effect. Roman architects and civil engineers
used the skills necessary to build the best possible roads, bridges, baths, forums, theaters, etc. The
works of the roman architects are so sufficient that they still stand today. These include arches,
columns, roads, and buildings, such as theaters, amphitheaters, and circuses, which were designed for
recreation. The Romans eagerly embraced Greeks sophistication, so much that it became the
foundation. In one respect, however, Rome s arched construction, in which a roof is

Personal Values And Values
1. The UA College of Medicine Phoenix values its culture, curriculum, and the community it serves.
Which aspect(s) do you value the most? (required, 350 words max)
Health, humanity, and human connection are a few of the values which I hold to the highest regard.
Health, because of its central importance to human happiness and well being. Humanity, because of
the uniting and healing powers of compassion and love. And human connection, because of the sense
of belonging, identity, and support that is provided through our meaningful relationships with others.
These values are particularly important to me due to their necessity in not only the longevity of life,
but in living a life of worth and quality. We learn from the experiences and insights of others, and we
learn together in our pursuit of new experiences alongside those whom we befriend. These
experiences and connections play an important role towards small and largescale economic progress,
personal and populational health improvements, and the entwined facets of happiness and
productivity. In a more role specific sense, these values are of the utmost importance to me because I
believe that the best care is given by a physician who truly cares for and understands their patients,
allowing them to improve their patient`s outlook on and quality of life, as well as their health. The
experiences that I have gained from overcoming adversity within my own life have instilled within me

The Benefits Of Human Cloning
How would you like to have another you? No, not an identical twin but another person who is actually
100% you? Would the idea fill you with delight or horror?. As a genetic engineer as well as a senior
researcher at the University of Adelaide I am terrified from where the research of cloning human

cloning is the creation of an organism that has an exact genetic copy of another. Since the cloning of
Dolly the Sheep in 1997, research of human cloning has been on the edge of the seat. It brings many

The Role Of Competition Law And Its Effects On The Local...
My interest in this paper is to consider a complex network prospective; the application of Competition
Law, and more specifically related to its effects on monopolistic competition, and its effects on the
local market and South African economy as a whole.
South Africa (SA) was distant from many other major markets and production centers. This made it
complex for international trade to compensate for these conditions, even though trade has expanded
since 1994, mainly with the European (EU) and the United States (US). Tariff levels have declined on
average, but anti dumping duties protect key industries such as steel, where the state has long had an
interest and an exclusive export agent can prevent arbitrage between export and local markets. SA s
history of import substitution and the attendant habits of business practice and government policy
favored local insiders thus challenging other market entrants. This encouraged the new SA
government to review the SA competition law regime in the White Paper on Reconstruction and
Development in 1994. The need for a new competition policy in SA was because of excessive
economic concentration and ownership, collusive practices by enterprises and the abuse of economic
power by firms in dominant positions. A need for further transition emanated from the effects of
globalization and trade liberalization and the need to redress past inequality and non participation in
the national economy. Thus fundamental principle of competition policy

The Underdogs By Mariano Azuela
The classic Willie Nelson and Waylon Jennings song Mammas, Don t Let Your Babies Grow Up to Be
Cowboys tells the sad, but familiar story of men growing up and leaving their families for reasons
they do not fully comprehend. It is the women, however, in the novel The Underdogs, by Mariano
Azuela, that understand this all too well. In The Underdogs, the author depicts Northern Mexican
villages overrun by the Mexican Revolution sending impromptu soldiers to fight the war, leaving few
citizens left behind with essentially nothing. Azuela paints a picture of the tremendous pressure put on
the citizens of Northern Mexico during the Revolution and we see this through his descriptions of
massive casualties and families feeling incredible pain due to the absence of their loved ones
everyday. Azuela uses this wartime atmosphere to describe how important women in Mexico were at
this time and their significance during the Mexican Revolution. Although degradation and
manipulation of women are quite obvious themes throughout the story, we see that the women of
Mexico played a major role in the Mexican Revolution, whether they fought in the battles themselves,
or were just a fading memory in a soldier s mind.
To fully understand the significance of women and their treatment in this time, one must first
understand the tension going on in the region. Pancho Villa, the leader of the Mexican revolutionist,
proclaimed himself as the military governor of the state of Chihuahua, a state in

Functionalism Vs Conflict Theory Essay
In sociology, the Functionalism and Conflict theory both explain the way society functions as a whole.
While interactionists perspective explains why society functions the way it does as well, it is more of
the explanation of why individuals function and interact the way they do in society, and how one can
be influenced and what influences one another.
Functionalist see society like the human body. In the same way that the body relies on the lungs to.
Death and distribute oxygen throughout the body and brain, functionalist also see society similarly as
being constructed of different interdependent components such as education, religion, and family. Just
as the human body would stop functioning if the lungs stopped breathing or the heart stopped
pumping blood throughout the body, society would also fail if education, family, or even religion was
no longer functioning. This shows that everything in the society in which we take place in, plays a
specific and important role in the world and social construct in which we live in which can be
explained as functionalism. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Slaughter s Essay Why Women Still Can T Have It All
In her article Why Women Still Can t Have It All, Anne Marie Slaughter comes to the conclusion that
women can have it all, but the present structure of today s society has made it unfeasible. Slaughter, a
high profile government employee, was appalled when she received supercilious and demeaning
remarks regarding her stepping down; ultimately choosing her family over her career (Slaughter).
Choosing family may be an easy choice for some, but when today s society has placed an exceeding
amount of value in ones career, some are faced with an unimaginable decision. For women to finally
have it all, a family and a career, Slaughter argues that we must rediscover the pursuit of happiness,
redefine what it means to be successful, and reacquire family values. Slaughter claims that society has
redefined the value of childcare, and is irritated that employers make conjectures, of equally qualified
employees, based upon whether or not they are a parent. For instance, she compares a marathon
runner to a parent, who are both equally qualified employees. She continues to emphasize that to be
both a parent and a marathon runner takes the same amount of dedication and determination.
Slaughter insists, The discipline, organization, and sheer endurance it takes to succeed ... Show more

  • 2. The Italian Campaign For World War II The Italian Campaign The Italian Campaign put Allied troops in Europe. Lesser objectives of the invasion included a chance to capitalize on the collapse of Italian resistance; to immediately use Allied forces; to engage German forces that could be sent to Russia and northern France; to take control of airfields that could be used for bombing missions; and to gain control of the Mediterranean. Casablanca Conference Planning: Believing the North African campaign would be over quickly, American and British leaders began discussing their next move. While the British favored pushing north through Sicily and Italy, the Americans wanted a direct, cross Channel attack. Since this required detailed discussions, a conference between Roosevelt, Churchill, and their senior leadership was scheduled. The two leaders chose Casablanca for the meeting. Casablanca Conference The Talks: The talks consisted mostly of planning an invasion of southern Europe. It was felt that invading Italy would take Benito Mussolini s troops out of the war and force Germany to shift forces. This would weaken the Nazi position in France, allowing for a later invasion. Operation Husky The main forces for the invasion of Sicily were the U.S. 7th Army under Patton and the British Eighth Army under Montgomery. The invasion began on July 10, 1943, with combined air and sea landings involving 150,000 troops, 3,000 ships and 4,000 aircraft, all aimed at the southern shores of the island. • 3. Relationship Between Fathers and Sons Essay Both poems My Papa s Waltz by Theodore Roethke and Those Winter Sundays by Robert Hayden are poems in which the speaker (a son in both cases) attempts to explain his complex relationship with his father. It seems that the two poets are reflecting back in their early lives as young boys and showing different appreciation toward their father. In my interpretation My Papa s Waltz is about a boy and that is excited that his father got home to play with him. Only problem is the speakers father is drunk and it hard to enjoy himself but he held on because the unconditional love he has for him, as the line says The Whiskey on your breath / could make a boy dizzy; / But I hung like death: (1 2 3). However, Those Winter Sundays is more ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Also is a sign of being responsible and not indolent. The impression that I get from My Papa s Waltz is that the boy s father is an alcoholic and irresponsible. I say this because as the father and the boy were playing around in the kitchen The unconscious father could of drop a hot pan that the mother could have been cooking on and cause serious damage. That to me shows that the father don t really think about the possibilities. On the contrary Those Winter Sundays Sundays too my father got up early (1) shows that the father is a hard workingman, that everyday of the week he is up early with cracked hands that ached / from labor in the weekday weather made (3 4). The speaker s father is a man that did hard labor to keep heat in the house and also made sure his son was looking sharp for example, polished my good shoes as well (12). Overall he was very responsible and loving even though the speaker didn t think so at the time seeing that he didn t show appreciation and no one ever thanked him (5). When it comes to the mood the speakers portray different attitudes towards their fathers. In My Papa s Waltz the speakers mood is positive while the poet reflect back negatively and in Those Winter Sundays the speaker attitude is like whatever and negative while the poet also reflect back an realizes that his father was a ... • 4. Natural Gas Grills Natural gas grills eliminate the cost of buying propane by plugging directly into your natural gas line. Natural gas is a cheaper option and also environmentally, a better option because it is classified as a greenhouse gas. The initial cost of gas plumbing and installation can be expensive, but you do save money over time. Size is one thing you need to consider when buying an outdoor grill. How big is your patio or deck where the grill is gonna go? Also, are you the average griller, cooking mostly chicken and steak? Or do you grill bigger meats more regularly? Obviously the size of the grill matters, so really evaluate your options. A grill s primary square inches refers to the size of the main cooking grate. The higher the number, the ... • 5. Modern Soccer Research Paper Emergence of Modern Soccer The sport of soccer is traced back more than 2,000 years ago to ancient China. There are some other places that also claims that they started the game of soccer and they are Greece, Rome, and parts of Central America. The place that really transitioned football the game that we now know as soccer is England. In October 1863 is the year that the game of soccer was actually established, eleven representatives from London clubs and schools met at the Freemason s Tavern to set up common fundamental rules to control the matches amongst themselves. It is said that the English also recorded the first uniform rules of the game, they forbid tripping opponents and touching the ball with your hands. As the game of soccer developed the more rules that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Then I found out that the leading exporter for soccer players in the world is actually Brazil even though Europe is the core economic of soccer. It is said this is because of the Brazilian players predominantly fluid and imaginative style of playing the game of soccer. This is crazy to me but about 5000 Brazilians play professional soccer outside of Brazil, which is a very outrageous number of soccer players that are playing professional soccer all around the world. One of the reason that Brazil has so many soccer players is because they are inspired by the success of Pele and Ronaldo. In Brazil there are 500 professional clubs and those clubs employ about 23,000 players. Since there is so many teams the individual markets are small and the pay is low for all the teams except for the top ones. It is stated that, 90 percent of Brazilian players earn less than 100 euros per month (Bellos). Brazil exports so many players to the world because of the poor clubs which means poor pay so the players would rather go somewhere else where they can make more ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. The Demographic Transition Theory Unlike society a few decades before, the life expectancy has increased and now America is seeing an exponential growth to the elderly population. There are many factors that could be the cause of this. Looking at the demographic transition theory in conjunction with the Malthusian theory brought valuable insight for me. The demographic theory says there are four stages to population growth that are predictable. Those who are in their late 80 s and above were capable of seeing all four of these stages in America. As they aged and the stages for population advanced so did technology. Malthusian theory claims that there are three factors that prevents the human population exceed its carrying capacity, which are food, disease, and war. Those who lived through the four stages of America were lucky enough to see technology advance to prevent those factors in being lethal to our population. It became possible for adults to live on to see their grandchildren and eventually their great grandchildren. However, having life for so long isn t always the best. There s a quote from the movie The Dark Knight which I believe applies to this situation, You either die a hero or live long enough to see yourself become the villain. . This quote is evident in the film Living Old , because eventually you reach an age where your body and mind regresses, which hurts your love ones. For example, in the film Mary Ann DiBerardino daughter of Chester and Rosemary Haak has suffered seeing her parents ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. House Voices Essays House Voices I will start with my new house. It is down the street from where my grandma and great aunt live. The house has two levels, the main floor and the basement. There are two bedrooms, the office, the bathroom, the living room with a fireplace, dinning room, and the kitchen on the main level. The basement contains the laundry room, the family room, a bathroom, and a large storage area. The house was for sale because the old woman who lived in it before us had died in the summer heat while her air conditioner was broken. Her neighbors found her in her house. It was later discovered that she had been dead for a few days. She was lying on the floor, in the only hallway in the house, just beyond the bathroom door. I have ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I started having fun with it, all over again. Then I lost interest in it. It found a new home in a box that was placed in my closet, and forgotten. A year later, we moved into our new house. A few months after we were fully moved in (though we still have boxes upon boxes of old stuff in the basement, which we do not plan on unpacking for lack of shelf space). I had started school at Topeka West High School, got settled in with everything, and on came the homework. One night, while working on an essay for my Junior English class, I heard a faint, annoying, sound. It sounded mechanical, but I could not make out what it was. The never ending, irritating noise, similar to that of the neighbor s barking dog, continued long enough to let me walk around and attempt to find it. I wandered into the storage room, where the noise continued to grow louder and louder. Finally, I neared where the noise was the loudest, which was, of course, the old box. I grabbed the box and brought it around the blanket wall into my room, so I could look inside of it at my desk. Once I had opened it, I discovered that the noise was coming from my old Talk Boy Jr. I laughed when I noticed that an old shoe box, filled with Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Jurassic Park figures, had shifted its position. The shoe box landed on the play button of the Talk Boy Jr., making it repeat an old voice n static recording. I pulled the Talk Boy Jr. out of the box ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Historical Development Of Haute Couture This essay will be considering the historical development of haute couture by analysing Charles Frederick Worth s (father of haute couture) key factors in the success of haute Couture. I will then discuss Coco Chanel s thriving impact on haute couture as well as ready to wear caused by the second world war. Saint Laurent s drift to ready to wear and the high street fashion system will also be discussed in order to answer if haute couture is relevant in fashion today. The books I will be analysing and referencing are A Cultural History of Fashion in the 20th Century by Bonnie English, Couture by Ruth Lynam, How Fashion Works by Gavin Waddell. Which will thoroughly breakdown the evolution and historical development of fashion by cultural, economic, environmental and social changes to finally come into a conclusion. The attraction to Englishman Charles Frederick Worth s garments caused by royalty was the origin to the relevance and recognition of haute Couture in the 19th Century. Ruth Lynam, editor of Couture concludes the growth of Worth s wealth, she states: The princess was the instrument of good fortune for Charles Worth... (Lynam, 1972:54) What Lynam seems to be stating is the pecuniary advantage the Princess Pauline de Metternich supported with her admiration for his creations. • 13. Essay On Tribal Masks Since the ancient times, tribal masks play a huge role in the traditional ceremonies and dance regalia of Native American tribes. The Northwest Coast Indians are the most prominent native mask makers who carve intricate ceremonial/dance masks. Believing that the world is led by supernatural beings or spirits, several cultures created masks worn ceremonially to connect and appease with these forces. Two of the prominent Native American masks are the Iroquois False Face masks and the Hopi Kachina masks. False Face Masks of the Iroquois The False Face masks are regarded as living and are fed with tobacco. They are characterized by distorted features with deep set eyes accented by metal. They have long white or black hair from the horse s tail. Their noses are crooked and bent. Tobacco is tied onto the hair above the forehead. False Face masks are made primarily from basswood. The man making the mask is guided by the spirit to discover the right wood in the forest for the false face mask. The masks were thought to be inhabited by the spirit of the tree. The spirit stimulates the distinctive elements of the design in which the product represents the spirit itself. As it is carved from a living tree, the mask is removed when completed. • 15. The Theory Of Consciousness And The Body When the word consciousness is used regarding human beings, the word itself usually implies that those individuals are conscious of being conscious. Many individuals assume that the mind, the brain, and the body react as one. But the idea of the mind is not related to the concept of the brain or the body. These differences allow philosophers to determine a people s consciousness in the world around them. Individuals derive the concept of consciousness from their experience because consciousness itself comes from one s youth. Consciousness can be described as an individual s ability to become aware of his or her surroundings including both the external and internal world which they are present in. The idea of consciousness can be explained by obtaining something simple and changing it into something complex, also known as the emergent property. The process of emergent property can be achieved in two steps that allow philosophers to determine who and what possess consciousness. The process of changing matter into energy, which is the first step of the emergent property, combines subatomic particles in a specific structure to form atoms. The final step of the emergent property process occurs when those atoms combine to form a more complex form. In humans, as a whole, the most complex combination of atoms develops to process the brain s activity and is known as the central nervous system. In ordinary life, we usually will express it in this way I cannot measure their thoughts . The object their thoughts is marked. On the one hand, it shows once again Wordsworth likes to put nature in the first place. On the other hand, it is coherent with the whole stanza, because the focus is on the birds. If putting I in the first, then the coherence will not be so good. The fifth stanza is devoted to the budding twigs . Personification is used again. We see the twigs spread out their fan to catch the air and the twigs must be in pleasure as well. In these three stanzas, the flowers, birds and twigs are all personified and they are all greatly pleasant in the harmonious natural world. The sixth stanza comes back to the sad thoughts of the poet. After the descriptions of the beauty and harmony of nature, when we think again what man has made of man , we cannot but lament. The sorrow here reaches its climax. So here the poet uses a rhetorical question Have I not reason to lament/ what man has made of man? to show his powerful feelings. ... Human Nature In Joseph Conrad s Heart Of Darkness Joseph Conrad s incredibly erudite, and lengthy prose in his, Heart of Darkness, challenges the reader to scrutinize human nature in all walks of life. While written in 1899, Heart of Darkness still serves to be a novella for the ages. With exceptional flexibility to a numerous amount of human issues Conrad s novella is easily paralleled with countless contemporary affairs; reaching from international, national, social, and personal matters (Conrad). Not only recently, but for many years we have been fighting in the middle east. Very recently, militants of the Islamic State executed seventy civilians in a Syrian town (Deeb, abcnews.com). As Conrad explores humankind s evil innate desires in the Heart of Darkness through violence, hypocrisy, and our interior world one can straightforwardly connect such acts with behaviors articulated in Syria these past couple days. Pets Are Prone At Superficial Skin Injuries Pets are prone to superficial skin injuries and most owners will encounter a situation at some point in time involving a cat, dog or other pet that s sustained a wound. Unfortunately, many dog and cat owners do not know how to properly clean and disinfect a wound or the owner will assume that the injury will heal on its own, leading to a complete lack of wound care. And too often, a situation with a wounded dog or cat will end in the veterinarian s office with a pet who s experiencing a great deal of pain and discomfort from the cut, gash or sore. It s important that pet owners understand how to perform basic first aid on their animals. It s part of responsible animal ownership. You wouldn t ignore a wound on your child, so a dog or cat s wound should be tended to as well, explained Dr. Michael Levine, DVM. If an injury is not treated properly, infection will result. Practical Constraints Practical Constraints Over sixty artworks are from the David Roberts Collection including some never seen before works, such as work by Caroline Achaintre, Roy Lichtenstein (nude in the Woods, 1980, it was noted to me whilst on the guided tour that this was a rare woodcut by the artist) and James Rosenquist. There are also commissions by artists such as murals by Allison Katz, flower arrangements and video pieces by Luiz Roque and also loans from the designers Claude and Francois Xavier Lalanne. A key term used when describing the exhibition space is mise en scène . Mise en scène is an expression used to describe the design aspects of a theatre or film production, which means visual theme or perhaps more pertinently telling a story both in visually artful ways through storyboarding, cinematography and stage design, and in poetically artful ways through direction. It is also commonly used to refer to multiple single scenes within the film to represent the film. This is particularly the case in this show as each room has a different look and feel like one would experience in a theatre; for example the Main Stage has a very different look and feel that the Backstage area. The Main Stage is particularly evocative of the shows aims and provides a centre point for the show especially the main stage itself which has been constructed especially for this show and painted green. Emily Young s Archangel I 2004 (see figure 1) made from Monteone onyx stone is situated on the edge of the stage and can be seen straight away as one enters from the bar. This sculpture, which weighs one tonne , had clearly exercised difficulties due to its weight and size. The polished stone resembles a woman s head who appears to be singing on the stage. • 30. Beowulf, The Great Warrior In the first speech, (pages 42 43; lines 260 285) Beowulf has just arrived on the beach of the Danes, King Hrothgar s territory. An unnamed coastguard is obviously intimidated by the proportion, design, and occupants of Beowulf s craft, yet he stops the warrior to ask his business and inquire after his heritage. Thus, the hero of Beowulf, the great warrior himself, introduces himself to the coastguard and in doing so, to the readers (or oral audiences of the time). Beowulf mentions his famous relatives, including that they are, King Hygelac s hearth companions and his, noble father was known as Edgetheow, a front fighter famous among nations... (Longman 42; lines 261 263). Beowulf is careful in everything he mentions, whether regarding his lineage or Hrothgar, to point to the great deeds and heroism of them, rather than himself. The warrior certainly knows how to speak with reverence and eloquence to the watchman to gain himself and his soldiers passage into Hrothgar s hall, saying, [i]t is with loyal and true intention that we come to seek you lord the son of Healfdene, guardian of the people (Longman 42; lines 267 268). Beowulf continues on the acknowledge King Hrothgar s power and flatter the coastguard s master mentioning they have a, great errand to the glorious hero, the Shepherd of the Danes... This can be seen through the architectural design of buildings as well as the materials used for their development. Greek and Roman architecture is an excellent example of this development, and the evolution of Greek architecture follows a distinct pattern; that is, and it developed organically to serve the needs of the Greeks through various phases of Greek history. Roman buildings significantly differed from those of Greek and so the new architectural style was created. Mainly because of high population densities and wealth in the cities, the ancient Romans discovered their own architectural solutions. In particular, they applied arches and vaults as well as building materials enabling them to attain the unprecedented progress in the construction of public structures. The Colosseum, the basilicas, the Baths of Caracalla and the baths of Diocletian, the aqueducts of Rome, the Pantheon, are all relevant proofs of genuinely Roman architectural innovations. These impressive buildings all served important public functions, In contrast to Greek aesthetic axioms; these objectives were attained with a wide scope of public effect. Roman architects and civil engineers used the skills necessary to build the best possible roads, bridges, baths, forums, theaters, etc. The works of the roman architects are so sufficient that they still stand today. These include arches, columns, roads, and buildings, such as theaters, amphitheaters, and circuses, which were designed for recreation. • 33. Personal Values And Values 1. The UA College of Medicine Phoenix values its culture, curriculum, and the community it serves. Which aspect(s) do you value the most? (required, 350 words max) Health, humanity, and human connection are a few of the values which I hold to the highest regard. Health, because of its central importance to human happiness and well being. Humanity, because of the uniting and healing powers of compassion and love. And human connection, because of the sense of belonging, identity, and support that is provided through our meaningful relationships with others. These values are particularly important to me due to their necessity in not only the longevity of life, but in living a life of worth and quality. We learn from the experiences and insights of others, and we learn together in our pursuit of new experiences alongside those whom we befriend. These experiences and connections play an important role towards small and largescale economic progress, personal and populational health improvements, and the entwined facets of happiness and productivity. In a more role specific sense, these values are of the utmost importance to me because I believe that the best care is given by a physician who truly cares for and understands their patients, allowing them to improve their patient`s outlook on and quality of life, as well as their health. • 35. The Role Of Competition Law And Its Effects On The Local... My interest in this paper is to consider a complex network prospective; the application of Competition Law, and more specifically related to its effects on monopolistic competition, and its effects on the local market and South African economy as a whole. South Africa (SA) was distant from many other major markets and production centers. This made it complex for international trade to compensate for these conditions, even though trade has expanded since 1994, mainly with the European (EU) and the United States (US). Tariff levels have declined on average, but anti dumping duties protect key industries such as steel, where the state has long had an interest and an exclusive export agent can prevent arbitrage between export and local markets. SA s history of import substitution and the attendant habits of business practice and government policy favored local insiders thus challenging other market entrants. This encouraged the new SA government to review the SA competition law regime in the White Paper on Reconstruction and Development in 1994. The need for a new competition policy in SA was because of excessive economic concentration and ownership, collusive practices by enterprises and the abuse of economic power by firms in dominant positions. A need for further transition emanated from the effects of globalization and trade liberalization and the need to redress past inequality and non participation in the national economy. Thus fundamental principle of competition policy ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Maternity and Body Maternal Politics and Romanticism Themes like adolescent changes and pregnancy, labour and child birth, lactation and nurturing, caring and child rearing, are recurrent themes related to the biological aspects of motherhood, in the poems written by women. This phase of maternity and the changes that accompany it, whether biological, psychological or socio cultural, have been depicted from a variety of perspectives by women writers. Eunice De Souza in her poem, Catholic Mother (1, see the appendix for full poem) depicts in a nutshell the issues that politicise motherhood. • 37. The Underdogs By Mariano Azuela The classic Willie Nelson and Waylon Jennings song Mammas, Don t Let Your Babies Grow Up to Be Cowboys tells the sad, but familiar story of men growing up and leaving their families for reasons they do not fully comprehend. It is the women, however, in the novel The Underdogs, by Mariano Azuela, that understand this all too well. In The Underdogs, the author depicts Northern Mexican villages overrun by the Mexican Revolution sending impromptu soldiers to fight the war, leaving few citizens left behind with essentially nothing. Azuela paints a picture of the tremendous pressure put on the citizens of Northern Mexico during the Revolution and we see this through his descriptions of massive casualties and families feeling incredible pain due to the absence of their loved ones everyday. Azuela uses this wartime atmosphere to describe how important women in Mexico were at this time and their significance during the Mexican Revolution. Although degradation and manipulation of women are quite obvious themes throughout the story, we see that the women of Mexico played a major role in the Mexican Revolution, whether they fought in the battles themselves, or were just a fading memory in a soldier s mind. To fully understand the significance of women and their treatment in this time, one must first understand the tension going on in the region. Pancho Villa, the leader of the Mexican revolutionist, proclaimed himself as the military governor of the state of Chihuahua, a state in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 38. Functionalism Vs Conflict Theory Essay In sociology, the Functionalism and Conflict theory both explain the way society functions as a whole. While interactionists perspective explains why society functions the way it does as well, it is more of the explanation of why individuals function and interact the way they do in society, and how one can be influenced and what influences one another. Functionalist see society like the human body. In the same way that the body relies on the lungs to. Death and distribute oxygen throughout the body and brain, functionalist also see society similarly as being constructed of different interdependent components such as education, religion, and family. Just as the human body would stop functioning if the lungs stopped breathing or the heart stopped pumping blood throughout the body, society would also fail if education, family, or even religion was no longer functioning. This shows that everything in the society in which we take place in, plays a specific and important role in the world and social construct in which we live in which can be explained as functionalism. ... • 39. Slaughter s Essay Why Women Still Can T Have It All In her article Why Women Still Can t Have It All, Anne Marie Slaughter comes to the conclusion that women can have it all, but the present structure of today s society has made it unfeasible. Slaughter, a high profile government employee, was appalled when she received supercilious and demeaning remarks regarding her stepping down; ultimately choosing her family over her career (Slaughter). Choosing family may be an easy choice for some, but when today s society has placed an exceeding amount of value in ones career, some are faced with an unimaginable decision. For women to finally have it all, a family and a career, Slaughter argues that we must rediscover the pursuit of happiness, redefine what it means to be successful, and reacquire family values. Slaughter claims that society has redefined the value of childcare, and is irritated that employers make conjectures, of equally qualified employees, based upon whether or not they are a parent. For instance, she compares a marathon runner to a parent, who are both equally qualified employees. She continues to emphasize that to be both a parent and a marathon runner takes the same amount of dedication and determination. Season after season, the winter rains and summer sun had streamed in over Santa Maria del Fiore s high altar or where the high altar should have been. Their predecessors had begun the church in 1296 to showcase the status of Florence as one of Europe s economic and cultural capitals, grown rich on high finance and the wool and silk trades. It was later decided that the structure s crowning glory would be the largest cupola on Earth, ensuring the church would be more useful and beautiful, more powerful and honorable than any other ever built, as the grandees of Florence decreed.
