Children In The Romantic Period
Page of 5
ZOOM
Smith1Austin D. SmithENGL 25111 19 17It s a hard knock lifeChildren of the Romantic Period
became more prevalent not only in the politics of society, but also within the poetry, composition, and
political debates of the time period. Such a controversy arose due to society s understanding of what it
meant to be a child of the Romantic Period. Prior to the nineteenth century, children were viewed as
having an identity in correlation to the parents. However, this began to change at the turn of the
Romantic Period with the introduction of more prominent children s literature rising to popularity
within society via the literary and political figures of politicians. The figure of the child prompted
poetry and political debate during the Romantic period. This debate occurred because society
reconsidered what it meant to be a child. Before the nineteenth century, children were seldom viewed
as having an identity separate from adults. Children were viewed as miniature adults or adults in
training. Most children were orphans, but even families with both parents living might still have to
fight
Smith2to survive. During the Industrial Revolution, working class children were often sent to work at
an early age in factories and workshops, depending on where their families lived, whereas in earlier
periods they would have done mostly agricultural work. Factory work with its long hours led people to
question if it was endangering children s health. Middle class

Character Analysis Of Brutus
Cassius states, Caesar doth bear me hard; but he loves Brutus. Cassius sees that Brutus can be
manipulated both in spite of and because of his nobility. Cassius flatters Brutus and appeals to his
perception of equality. He justifies murdering his closest friend, Ceaser, harming both himself and the
people of Rome. He is proud of his reputation for honor and nobleness, but he sometimes is not the
most practical man, and is often naive. He is the only major character in the play dedicated to make
his behavior fit a strict moral and ethical code. Shakespeare uses the assassination of Caesar to
develop ways to show the complexity of Brutus and his character throughout the play. He cannot
justify, to his own satisfaction, the murder of a man who is a friend and who has not misused the
powers of his office. Consequently, thinking of the assassination in terms of a ritual instead of a
murder makes it more acceptable to him. Unfortunately for Brutus, he misunderstands the citizens of
Rome. In William Shakespeare s Julius Caesar, Brutus is naive, because he exhibits characteristics
flaws such as foolishness, idealism, and self righteousness, which eventually lead to his killing of
Caesar and himself.
Brutus s naive personality leads him to be easily manipulated by others. Cassius tells the other
conspirators his plan in the killing of Caesar. The other conspirators believe that it would be a smart
idea to do it the following day, due to Caesar receiving his crown. The conspirators decide that it
would only work to involve Brutus in on the plan too. The conspirators agree they will only get Brutus
on their side if they write fake letters to Brutus saying they are from the people of Rome. Later that
night Brutus finds the letters and reads them. After reading the letters, Brutus States, ... Speak, strike,
redness. I am entreated / o speak and strike? O Rome, I make thee promise / If the redness will follow,
thou receivest / Thy full petition at the hand of Brutus (II.i.55 58). After reading the letters, he feels he
needs to join the conspirators. So Brutus agrees to the plan and tells the conspirators what he plans to
do. Cassius knew that the conspirators could not assassinate Caesar without Brutus support. Brutus

Social Classes In Mycenaean Civilization
Society: The difference of classes in societal structure can be derived from the goods that were buried
in their graves. It is clear that there was a strong, ruling class and a lower group containing mostly the
common people. The political hierarchy consisted of the The Wanax (or King), at the top, who was the
political and religious leader. Below him were the local chiefs and controllers who looked after
administrative duties. The safety of the state was the responsibility of the Lawagetas, the head of the
army. Because of this efficient hierarchy, the Mycenaean Age was economically and culturally
affluent, while weapons, arms and armaments found in graves and sites confirm their society as
military inclined. Economy: The Mycenaeans used ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Only a few texts, paintings and pictures suggest the name of the Gods. A popular deity was Poseidon,
(at the time probably associated with earthquakes and land transformations). Other important Gods
included the Lady of the Labyrinth and Diwia (Sea Goddess). Other members of the pantheon of
which evidence has been found include Zeus Hera, Ares, Hermes, Athena, Artemis, Erinya as well as
Dionysus. There are very few temples or shrines that have been found where religious practices might
have been exercised: So we can assume all rituals took place on open ground or in peak sanctuaries
and caves. Some shrines that are found have a tripartite structural design. Minoans had a strong
influence on most of the religious practices and rituals practised by the Mycenaeans. Art: Pottery work
such as stirrup jars, pitchers, kraters and chalices were made during this era. The vessels that were
exported were more intricately (instructed and detailed) designes and had beautiful motifs (design),
often depicting warriors and animals. Vessels in the shape of tripods, basins, or lamps were found in

Kobe Bryant
LOS ANGELES Lakers fans are spending hundreds of dollars on tickets to bid farewell to Kobe
Bryant as he winds down his final season in a Hall of Fame caliber career. They are coming to Los
Angeles from out of state and from overseas. They are skipping work and sacrificing vacation days.
They might want to go to Phoenix, instead. Or New Orleans, or Salt Lake City, or anywhere else the
Lakers are scheduled to play road games, because there has been a strange twist in the Kobe Bryant
farewell tour: He is skipping a lot of home games, but not missing many chances to say goodbye to
opponents fans. Bryant has missed 11 games since announcing on Nov. 29 that he would retire, and 10

Theme Of Fire On The Mountaintoo
Anita Desai is recognized as the first Indian author writing in English who delineates feminist themes
seriously, focusing on the conditions of women in India. The conflict of her characters is noted to be
as one, between reason and instinct, the will and reality, involvement and detachment. She is deep
rootedin her native culture that is evident from herthemes, style, landscape, images and of course, in
her successful experimentation with English novel. Her novels raise many issues of universal
relevance and its beauty lies in the fact that it can be interpreted from various angles.
All her novels have themes chiefly exploring the human psyche to its deepest depths. Anita Desai s
exploration of female domains historically, the family and the home, as well as her focus on female ...

Catfish Are Widely Available In The South And Make For
Catfish are widely available in the south and make for a delicious meal. The firm white meat of catfish
fits perfectly into a diverse variety of baked and broiled dishes. Farm raised channel catfish fillets are
found these days in many grocery stores throughout the USA. Other kinds of catfish, such as flathead
and blue catfish, are more often wild caught out of ponds, lakes, and rivers. Of the different kinds of
catfish, channel catfish have the most mild taste but all are suitable for eating. The states along the
Mississippi River are home to many restaurants with great reputations for serving catfish, and in North

Clinical Signs Of Bvdv Infection
Laboratory diagnosis The clinical signs of BVDV infection are highly variable and there are many
factors that affect severity of infection like viral strain, age of affected animals, immune status,
reproductive stage and mixed infection. Therefore, diagnosis based on history, clinical signs and
postmortem examination should be considered only as preliminary diagnosis. The accurate and
confirmatory diagnosis of BVDV infection depends only on laboratory diagnosis. 1 Virus isolation
BVDV isolation in cell culture, followed by identification, is considered as the most reliable method
for diagnosis. Many different clinical samples are suitable for BVDV isolation during the viremia
stage as nasal discharges, peripheral blood leukocytes, serum, semen, aborted fetuses and feces.
However, presence of maternal antibodies in serum and buffy coat samples from newly born animals
may neutralize the virus and decrease the sensitivity of virus isolation. Virus isolation methods are
labor intensive and may take several weeks. Furthermore, virus isolation cannot differentiate between
PI animals and transiently infected animals. The FBS used as supplement for propagation of cell lines
should be tested for BVDV contamination before usage to avoid false positive results. Dubovi et al.
2013 stated that there are many factors that may affect the success in BVDV isolation and discussed
the misconception that BVDV isolation is the gold standard for diagnosis. Some of those factors are

Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? and a series of his flashbacks revealing how his life experiences gave
him the right answers to every quiz question in the show. It displays the way he formed his destiny. On

he won the top prize of the show and became a millionaire. There is no answer to his happy ending
other than It is written , or, It is destiny . Jamal s destiny is the result of his actions. If he had not
earned an honest living by being a chaiwallah at a mobile phone company s call center, he would
never have known how to get the chance to join the game show. If he had not been a contestant on the
game show, he would never have become the millionaire. He tried to change the life he was given,
created his own life, chose the paths he took that made him who he is ultimately destined to become.
Finding Latika at the railway station in the last scene of the film, he said, This is our destiny (1:47:56).
Eventually, a young uneducated man whose life was full of poverty and tragedy got his destiny,
becoming a millionaire and enjoying the true love after many painful life experiences.
A Girl Walks Home Alone At Night portrays the main character The Girl as scary and lethal, but
human in both appearance and motive. She is a chador wearing female vampire who wanders in Bad

lipstick, preying on immoral men. She created her own destiny and shaped it with her choices and

Brave Test
Title: Brave Test
In the Disney princess movie Brave it opens with a family who are enjoying a day on a picnic. Later in
the movie the viewer finds out that this is not just an ordinary family, but a royal family over a
kingdom. This family includes the king, Fergus, the queen, Eleanor, their daughter, Merida, and their
three sons, Hurbert, Harris, and Hamish. The movie is set in the Scottish Kingdom, and just like in
every kingdom the king is the ruler, but in the viewer s perspective of Brave this does not seem to be
the case. In the movie, the character Elinor steps out of her assigned role of a queen, developing the
epic.

The muffin did change her mother, but not in a way that Merida expected, Elinor was converted into a
bear! When Merida and Elinor realized, it had changed queen Elinor into a bear the two of them were
both frightened, because they knew if Fergus or anyone else saw Elinor she would be killed.
Therefore, Merida attempted to flee the castle, to return to the witch, who could revert her mother
back. However, they were heard by Fergus and he gathered the clans to slaughter, the thing that he
thought took his leg; a bear. As Elinor and Merida dash into the woods, Elinor begins to see Merida s
passion and love for the outdoors. When they arrive at the river, Merida immediately leaped in, Elinor
sits back and watches at first then she notices there is food in the river. As a result, Elinor takes off her
crown and joins Merida in attempt to catch some fish to eat. As Merida teaches her mom how to catch
the fish, and they begin to play in the water, the viewer can feel and notice the rebuilding of the
mother daughter relationship that Elinor and Merida once had. As soon as they leave the river, Elinor
leaves behind her crown, displaying the passing of the old and the coming of the new. The viewer also
saw Elinor s hair had changed from in two braids to down and flowing, which also shows the
deference in Elinor. Elinor stepping out of her designed role as a queen develops Merida s character
and demonstrates the theme of Merida contesting the tradition of the Anglo Saxon

The Psycho Analytic Perspective
My life is a story of the self realization of the unconscious. Everything in the unconscious seeks
outward manifestation, and the personality too desires to evolve out of its unconscious conditions.
Carl Jung The author of the lines mentioned above, Carl Gustav Jung, is one of the major contributors
of the Psycho Analytic perspective of understanding personality. Jung who was born in Kesswil,
Switzerland, in 1875, was a very close associative of Sigmund Freud. The duo shared a lot of common
ideas and thoughts beginning from their first meeting at Freud s office in Vienna, after a period of
mutually admiring correspondence. But, In the course of time these discussions revealed a small crack

Like all psychoanalysts, Jung recognized that personality contains both conscious and unconscious
elements. Like Freud, Jung referred to the ego when describing the more conscious aspects of
personality. His description of the unconscious, though, differed from Freud s id and superego
structures. Furthermore, he did not seek to increase the role of consciousness in personality and to
minimize unconscious influence, as did Freud. Rather, Jung sought a balance in which unconscious
elements were given an equal role, complementary to that of consciousness Jung s description of
personality types is one of the more straightforward aspects of his theory. Among other things, it helps
explain why some people seize on his descriptions of mystical and mythological experience with
enthusiasm, while others dismiss them as non scientific nonsense. The difference depends on a person
s psychological type, that is, the person s grouping based on Jung s three major dimensions of
personality. The three dimensions are introversion versus extraversion, thinking

To offset this, we have designed a merit and bonus plan. Merit Plan The merit pay will increase
FastCat expenses; however, it will be worth the cost as the employees who received pay increases will
receive raises based on merit. Only 68% of FastCat s employees will receive merit pay; that is a
$28,769 increase. Providing bonuses for workers, who perform their jobs effectively, according to
measurable criteria, should increase overall performance within FastCat. According to the original
merit plan, the rating system used valid and valuable criteria but the uneven distribution suggested its
extreme leniency. Over 68% of the employees exceeded expectations (Appendix 3.2.1 3.2.2). To
correct this, FastCat should implement a 360 degree feedback program. This will not only encourage
teamwork, but it will give employees clarity and challenge them to improve. This directly supports
FastCat s goals of controlling costs, increasing revenue, and creating a team oriented culture The new
merit distribution is stricter and has a forced distribution that should help control costs (Appendix
3.2.3). Indeed, merit plans are susceptible to bias. If this occurs, FastCat should consider hiring
outside auditors to assess individuals at the company. For now, the 360 degree program should prevent
and/or alleviate such issues. Communication is key in implementing this new plan as sometimes

Theological Symbolism in Cool Hand Luke Essay
In the 1967 prison film Cool Hand Luke, directed by Stuart Rosenberg, there are many examples of
theological symbolism and religious themes. Most of the symbolism alludes to Jesus Christ, which is
often utilized in film to add depth to the protagonist in the story. Such Christ figure symbolism can
also be seen in films such as the 1999 hit The Matrix and the original Star Wars film (1977). Along
with these visual suggestions, there are also thematic elements that underlie Cool Hand Luke which
involve Biblical allusions and metaphysical questions.
The film revolves around a man named Lucas Jackson, portrayed by the legendary actor Paul
Newman, who is sentenced to two years in a small suburban jail. He is convicted for destroying public

Luke s goal was to challenge the establishment (to which he seemed to think was unjust) and make an
example of hope for his fellow men in that they wouldn t have to bow down to Dragline. Interestingly
enough, after this fight, Dragline becomes acquainted with Luke and becomes very friendly.
Another scene that had a similar theme of crucifixion was when Luke boasted he could eat fifty eggs
in the span of an hour. All of the inmates gather around him while Dragline fed him the eggs. Luke
was taking this challenge in order to prove himself to the inmates, as well as to make money from all
the bets placed on him. After he finishes eating the fifty eggs, he lies on the table with his arms
outstretched. The camera zooms out and focuses on Luke on the table for a few seconds, which further
reinforces the image of the crucifixion. Although there are not many direct implications from this
scene as to what Luke was sacrificing himself for, it may have been for the fifty inmates at the jail.
Perhaps Luke was sacrificing his stomach to stimulate the small economy in the prison, since
everyone seemed to be profiting in some form after his challenge. The image of the crucifixion also
occurs at the end of the film, when Dragline is reminiscing about Luke s actions, and a photograph of
Luke is placed on crossroad which creates a cross. The camera focuses away and this image

The Importance Of Seeing The Philadelphia Orchestra...
Last year I had the privilege of seeing the Philadelphia Orchestra perform Gustav Holst s: The Planets
Suite. The piece as a whole is one that pulls the strings of your heart from the first pound to the last
mystic moment of silence. It has been a year since I heard the orchestral piece in full, and ever since, I
have been awaiting to get an opportunity like that again. It is unfortunately a rare occurance in my
generation to feel so strongly about a piece of art. The world is at our fingertips, and yet we have no
urge to explore it.
According to Gustav, the Planets were a depiction of life and the many stages of its progression. As a
young adult and musician this suite inspired a new way of seeing, feeling, and hearing life. Thierry
Fischer, a music director at Utah Symphony wrote, Holst denied that the suite has any connection to
the classical Zodiac other than the names and traits of the personified planets, that connection by itself
is enough for the music to conjure strong images of the mythological deities associated with each.
Mars, the bringer of war, begins with five quiet yet dominant beats in a reverberating 5/4 rhythm. As
the movement continues we hear the grinding minor chords, which leaves the ear unsettled. Mars is
said to be an obvious illustration of war, the depressing and frightening steady march of soldiers as
they walk toward the unknown. Throughout the entire movement there is no clear harmonic release,
the chromaticism just sways back and forth.

Pros Of Leasing
In the vast majority of situations here in the United States, I recommend leasing over any other ways
to finance and drive a car.
This might surprise you.
Because we have been brainwashed that leasing is a fool s way to drive a car.
But when we exploit the benefits of leasing (and avoid the common traps), we are able to drive a lot
more car for a lot less money over our lifetime.
*** We all know leasing is confusing
Leasing is meant to seem complicated.
This is done on purpose, because it tricks (most) people into making poor financial choices. And these
bad decisions puts more profit into the dealer s bank account.
But when we exploit leasing in our favor, it is almost always cheaper than any other form of financing
a new car.
*** ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I am about to share with you the big loophole of new car leasing.
Ready?
Here it is...
It is a secret that most people do not know about.
It is the secret that gets most people thinking leasing has mileage and damage penalties.
But the secret is this:
The legal loophole around paying for end of lease penalties is to get the dealership to buy our car back
from us (instead of turning it in).
Let me repeat this, because it is the secret to get more car for less money.
At any time during a lease, we can sell our leased car to any dealership on the planet. It does not
matter if we sell a leased Toyota to a BMW dealership or a leased Audi to a Honda dealership.
Because as soon as we sell the car to the dealership, the lease company gets paid off and cannot charge
us for end of lease extras.
This is known as a early lease buyout .
It is the cost that anyone can buy the car for. And it is calculated at the same time we sign the lease
paperwork.
Even better, some dealerships will offer us more for our leased car than the early lease buyout.
Why? Because they can flip our leased car and sell it used on their lot for a ton of profit. (More on this

History Day Failure
Failure can feel devastating when you are living through the experience. I felt this way during one of
the greatest failures in my life, failing to qualify for State History Day in my junior year of high
school. This was my third History Day competition and I had previously qualified for State. While I
entered the event with confidence from previous competitions and a final product that I thought was
close to perfect, experiencing failure this time taught me how to strive for the best that I can be,

History Day, I had created a 10 minute documentary about Senator Robert Dole and his impact on the

latest national survey from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration s

survey. The use of illegal drug use among 50 to 54 has doubled since 2002. Meanwhile for 55 to 59,
such drug use has tripled. Marijuana is by far the most used illegal drug among both children and
adults (Casavant and Chantal, 2001), but not just limited to that drug also according to SAMHSA.
A similar study was also done in the United Kingdom; this study was geared to finding out what are
the causes of preteen using illegal drugs (McKeganey, 2004). Over 1200 students was asked to

Almost 80% of apartment renters prefer making online rent payments, while six in 10 landlords would
prefer all tenants made digital payments. Integrated payment options include digital wallets, credit
cards, eChecks, ACH transfers and debit card transactions. Electronic payment processing is faster
than traditional collection processes, which means more control over the cash flow. Another key
benefit is that companies can process owner payments electronically, eliminating costs associated with
printing and mailing paper checks. Additionally, when integrated with property management
accounting software, financial records are always up to date and error free.
Key benefits of automating payments include:
No more lost checks
Ever payment received or generated leaves a digital audit trail
Greater visibility. Easy to identify and address late payers and negative payment patterns
Lower collection costs
Secure portals protect privacy and assets
Enhanced accountability

Threats Of Cryptography And Steganography
The popularity of internet and its technologies increase day by day and so are the threats to the
security of our information transmitted through the internet. The unauthorized or illegal access of the
data or tampering of data is very high. In order to provide security of data being accessed by
unauthorized people, information security is required [1].
Cryptography and Steganography is too used to secure communication. According to dictionary.com:
Steganography is: Hiding a secret message within a larger one in such a way that others cannot discern
the presence or contents of the hidden message and Cryptography is The process or skill of
communicating in, or deciphering secret writing or ciphers [2].

1.2 History of Steganography
The first use of steganography is reported by Herodotus, the so called father of history, who mentions
that in ancient Greek, hidden text was written on wax tablets. When Demeratus wanted to notify
Sparta that the king of Persia, Xerxes, intended to invade Greece, he wrote this message on a tablet
and covered it with wax. To recover the message the other people in Sparta simply had to scrape the
wax off the tablet [3].
1.3 Steganography
The basic concept is that it has a cover object that is used to cover the original message image, a host
object that is the message or main image which is to be transmitted and the steganography algorithm
to carry out the required object. The output is an image called stego image which has the message
image inside it, hidden. This stego image is then sent to the receiver where the receiver retrieves the
message image by applying the de steganography

Using Two Transmit Diversity Scheme
1.2 LITERATURE REVIEW
[1]S. M. Alamouti, describes a simple two branch transmit diversity scheme. Using two transmit
antenna and one receive antenna, the new transmit antenna provides the same diversity order as
maximal ratio receiver combining (MRRC) with one transmit and two receive antennas. The scheme
easily be generated to two transmit antenna and M receive antenna to provide a diversity order of 2M.
This scheme does not require any bandwidth expansion any feedback from the receiver to the
transmitter and its computation complexity is similar to MRRC. This also provide diversity
improvement to all the remote units in a wireless system, using two transmit antennas at the base
station instead of two receive antenna at all the remote terminals.
[2]Vahid Tarokh, proposed that data is encoded by a channel code and encoded data is split into n
streams that are simultaneously transmitted using n transmit antennas. The received signal at the each
receive antenna is a linear superposition of the n transmitted perturbed by noise. The code constructed
here provides the best trade off between data rate, diversity advantage, and trellis complexity.
Maximum likelihood decoding is achieved in a simple way through decoupling of the signal
transmitted from different antennas rather than joint detection and significant gain can be achieved by
using the increasing number of transmit chains with the very little decoding complexity.

Medieval Universities In The Middle Ages
The idea of a university, an institution composed of students seeking higher education in particular
subjects, facilitated by teachers who are knowledgeable in the subject he or she teaches, is one of
many concepts that has survived throughout the Middle Ages into modern day ( university ). Although
the idea of a university has evolved over time since the Middle Ages, the general concepts of a
university have remained the same, allowing for the successful comparison and contrasting of the
changes in what was considered university, or universitas Latin, commonly used as the language in
which lectures were given, for university in medieval times, and what is now considered a university
in the current era ( Legacies of the Middle Ages ). The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The main four disciplines that were established to be studied in medieval universities were theology,
law, medicine, and letters what we know today as liberal arts ( Legacies of the Middle Ages ). Oxford
University originally specialized in the arts, civil and canon law, and theology in the twelfth century,
incorporating medicine as a track of study in the thirteenth century. Oxford, along with Bologna, Paris,
and Montpelier belonged to the primary band of European universities in medieval times (Cobban 4).
The universities in the Middle Ages existed not solely for the purpose of teaching, but also to facilitate
research and debate, and that its curriculum covered both religious and secular subjects ( Legacies of
the Middle Ages ). In addition to the four main disciplines of study previously mentioned, logical
analysis applied to all subjects being studied. In the Middle Ages, students gained a facility in the
application of rational argument to intellectual propositions, the essence of the scholastic method as it
had evolved from the twelfth century and even earlier (Cobban 150). Students attending medieval
English universities studied the trivium, consisting of classes focusing on the effective usage of logic,
grammar, and rhetoric. Arithmetic and astronomy, a mix of classical, Arabic, and contemporary
sources, also played a major role in specific subjects studied in medieval universities (Cobban 155
57). Although the universities in medieval times taught subjects that are worldly, English scholars
were subject to ecclesiastical courts. An abundance of scholars not only received a degree from the
university, but they also acquired clerical status (Cobban 2). In the days since the formation of the
university in the Middle Ages, the amount of courses available for students to study has increased

How Did The Mahele Impact The Hawaiians
Mahele means land division in Hawaiian and within the land division it was split into four parts, the
King, chiefs, commoners, and could be purchased by the foreigners (Borreca). This happened when
King Kamehameha realized that his Hawaiian Islands could be taken forcefully by the foreigners
(Borreca). Then, King Kamehameha created the mahele to prevent foreigners from taking their land.
This did not go well because the Hawaiian chiefs started to sell the land to the foreigners which
caused Hawaiians land ownership to lessen. The mahele did not benefit the Hawaiians because they
lost resources, lost land, and their crops were stolen and destroyed by the foreigners.
A political impact was that the Hawaiians lost many resources. This was because of the land divider
did not equally and fairly divide the land. Hawaiians that lived in the ocean and the midland were
unable to go into the mountains and cut down trees for their needs. Therefore Hawaiian childrens were
eating raw potato because of no firewood and their mouths were swollen from eaten raw taro (Hio).

Character Analysis Of Empire Rising
In the novel Empire Rising, Michael Briody is a confident, idealistic ironworker from Greenwich
Village Ireland. Originally a soldier fighting in the Civil War, Briody escaped prison camp and came
to America to start a new life in the Bronx. Due to the hardships he faced in Ireland and trying to get a
job in America, Briody now carries an immense love for the work he does on the Empire State
Building. The job he does with the rest of the rivet crew is one of the only things that distracts him
from the guilt of being a hitman. His other diversion is the relationship he pursues with Grace
Masterson, another Irish immigrant who lives on a houseboat. Briody s strong feelings for Grace are
ultimately what lead to his potentially avoidable demise.
The personality traits that Briody carries remain the same throughout the novel, even when he is faced
with hardships. He can only be described as a man of dedication and loyalty who trusts his instincts
and doesn t back down easily. Briody s dedication shows itself in the novel through his love for
working. He s described as an ironworkers posterboy, (06) which further explains that he is devoted to
the work he does on the Empire State Building. The book mentions on multiple occasions that Briody
is addicted to the way building something so monumental makes him feel. Actually, I m truly happy
when I m on the job. There s nothing like it, really. Most people might think it s crazy, but I love the
work, the men. (189) By reading

They fought back in the decision of freeing slaves. The South wanted to be left alone to make their

The Importance Of Community Service
The efficiency of service can be looked at form multiple angles. Does the motive behind service less
than its effectiveness? I will be exploring just that in this paper by evaluating the net benefit to a
community and its lasting impact on the individual performing mandatory versus voluntary service. I
was drawn to this topic after listening to Tovia Smith s podcast, Selfish Giving: Does It Count If You
Get In Return?. Smith interviews many professionals on their opinion on service done for personal
gain. In the article, Community Service, published by the Center for Justice and Reconciliation, they
define mandatory community Service as restorative justice for offenders. The Center for Justice and
Reconciliation leads a reader to believe that offenders doing community service is no different than
when a high school student does it for a college application. I believe that the Center for Justice and
Reconciliation is correct that offenders and high school students both partake in mandatory
community service but for different reasons. High school students use service to get into college while
offenders use service to make amends with the community they have harmed. Both Smith and the
Center for Justice and Reconciliation agree that service is good but differ on what makes it efficient.
While I agree with Smith s main argument surrounding service, I believe that community service
remains effective when you evaluate the motives, net benefit to community, and a lasting impact

Similarities And Differences Between King Henry And Julius...
4. Comparing Caesar to King Henry V
4.1 Aristocratic family backgrounds
King Henry V and Caesar share common historical grounds. As the third king in the Lancaster family
line, King Henry was descendent of the old, aristocratic Angevin dynasty which reigned in England
from 1154 to 1485, beginning with King Henry II of Plantagenet. The family dynasty began in the
region of Anjou and the dynasty s expansion into Europe was considered its golden age (Vauchez, A et
al. 2000:65). Similarly, Caesar too came from an old, aristocratic family that had patrician roots. In his
infamous speech made at his Aunt Julia s funeral, Caesar illustrated how the Julia gens claimed
ancestry from Aeneas, son of Aphrodite saying ...while the Julians...descend from the goddess Venus
herself... Caesars adds that his family ...therefore hold the sanctity of kings who rule among men and
of gods whole rule over kings... (Freeman 2008:52). By both having an aristocratic family
background, there exists a commonality between the two prominent historical figures.

The Dualists Essay
The infinite theoretical duel between the duality of our mind and body by philosophers has been one
that has been replete with a magnitude of different philosophical theories that try to posit our
existentiality. Consequently, these theorists try to find the answers to the causality of how the mind
and the brain truly interact: Are we our synapses, or are we something more than that? However, one
theory that has been of interest to many recent scientists and philosophers alike is one that has been
around since its conception by a famous mathematician and philosopher named Rene Descartes. This
theory is called substance dualism; and accordingly, this theory tries to solve the mystery of how these

However, one theory that I find particularly helpful is one that is from the Cartesian dualistic
mentality; however, it branches of into its own direction and creates a plausible theory that I hope will
help open doors to many more answers to the mystery of our experiential existence. According to Dr.
Jeffrey M. Schwartz, Henry P. Stapp, and Mario Beauregard, who are researchers in the field of
neuroscience and quantum physics, the mind creates a causative effect through the brains neural
mechanism thus through material matter and this in turn creates an interaction. Consequently, these
interactions call it volition if you will affect the atoms, matter and molecules of our material existence.
Consequently, only through quantum physics can one know how these substances comingle with each
other to create a seamless interaction that can either have positive or negative consequences to our
existence. In philosophical terms, this theory also pertains to our experiential existence; thus, it has
implications for our day to day life (2). Classical physics mainly deals with formulas and sets of
equations that describe our world in macromolecular terms; however, quantum physics is concerned
with the more intimate aspects of casual

seasonal change. The number of daylight hours can be represented by a periodic function. This
periodic function can help Alaskan Council predict daylight hours for tourist travelling to watch their
Bore Tide. A Bore Tide is a tidal phenomenon in which the leading edge of the incoming tide forms a
wave (or waves) of water that travels up a river or narrow bay against the direction of the river or bay
s current. Anchorage, Alaska is known for its famous Bore Tides. These bore tides occur at least once

analysis the function itself was used to find daylight hours. The hours were then compared to the
original data points. This comparison resulted in a percentage error being recorded. (Refer to
Appendix 5 for the results of the function and percentage errors). The highest percentage error
recorded was 7.35% on February 1st 2011. This error could be because February has 29 days in a leap
year but 2011 data was used. The error could also occur because only 24 data points were used, if
more data points were used a more precise graph would have been generated leaving less space for
error.
Question 1e:
Simple deriving and calculus was used to verify that the equation L=417 sin⁡

Entertainment In Brave New World
What do you think of when you hear the word entertainment? Do you ever wonder why it s the way it

does entertainment affect culture and a society? These are questions that might have many different
answers of varying explanations and magnitudes. For centuries, people have looked to a multitude of
different things to do as a way to escape their normal lives and to have fun. So then came various
forms of entertainment. Although it may not seem so at first glance, taking a more critical look at the

In both societies, it is used to entertain the masses. In the Brave New World, entertainment is also used
to distract citizens, and make them docile. The use of soma, constant intercourse, immersive
entertainment machines, and presumably many other sources of entertainment put the citizens of the
Brave New World in a sort of mental comatose or haze. But then I ask you, how different is our
society in this sense? First, let s look at initial exposure. On average, children between the ages 2 5
watch about 32 hours a week worth of television/media.(XXXX) that s 1,664 hours a year, about 69
days, or almost 10 weeks. That much exposure has massive impacts on the developing brain. From
age 5 and on, we are basically conditioned to accept whatever the industry throws in our

Examples Of Bad Mother In Mythology
1.3 Bad Mothers in Mythology and Fairy Tales
The chapter so far has shown what is conventionally considered good mothering , according to the
models perpetuated by psychological theories and the prevailing social custom and practice.
It is also important to analyse the space given to mothers who do not perform their role according to
this established pattern. Traditionally, representations of bad mothers have been transmitted through
myths and fairy tales, which, by imagining the existence of such dissonant figures in an allegorical
perspective, contributed to place maternal violence in a distant place and time, preventing them from
challenging women s traditional role as caring, nurturing actors within society.
Joseph Campbell defines mythological ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Nonetheless, stories of mothers acting in subversive ways and calling into question both the bedrock
of family stability and the limits of mother love can be found in many myths. Medea kills her own
children as a sign of personal revenge against Jason, her former lover, who had abandoned her. Jocasta
ruthlessly abandons her son Oedipus in order to save her husband, favouring conjugal love over the
mother child bond. Althea decides to burn the branch that kept her son Meleager alive after he had
killed her brothers. The function of these challenging examples of women who favour others over
their children, and as such are branded as bad mothers, could be found in the desire to show the
destructive force of phallic women, who turn the typical representation of female characters as sources
of life in negative death bringers. Desire of revenge, fear and pain pushed these mythological
characters to act against social expectations by giving prominence to their own subjectivity or to
relationships other than filial. Medea favoured her own desire of hurting Jason, by depriving him of
his beloved children, over her maternal love. This leads her to kill her offspring, who represent in her
eyes also a proof of her ability to love and of her vulnerability. Jocasta, scared by the oracle s words,
tries to avoid the destiny the Gods have sanctioned for her by abandoning Oedipus and failing to
perform her maternal duties. Althea s filicide is provoked by her grief over her brother s death, caused
by the son she had protected for all of her life. All of these female characters reverse the positive,
fertile role traditionally associated with women in mythological narratives by killing the ones they had
created, subverting the image of women as nurturing part of society. Because of their failure to
comply with the maternal

The Consequences Of Alcohol Analysis
Alcohol is a very widely used drug, and is therefore present in many clinical and forensic toxicology
cases. Quantitation of alcohol levels in patients affects the clinical treatment they receive as well as
any legal consequences associated with the incident that led to their hospitalization. Alcohol analysis
and its consequences for postmortem cases also forms a large part of the forensic toxicologist s
workload [1 2].
Although gas chromatography mass spectrometry (GCMS) or gas chromatography flame ionization
detection (GC FID) is the most accurate and reliable method of determining blood alcohol
concentration (BAC), it is expensive, time consuming, and requires technical proficiency manhours [1
2]. Therefore, BAC determination in a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, there is still contention over its existence, prevalence, and severity; this is evidenced by
recent articles and court cases contesting its relevance [3,7] . It is problematic that almost every
mention of this phenomenon goes back to a single study in 1995 that failed to put the issue to rest [6].
Forensically, this research has multiple implications. The presence and level of alcohol in a victim or
perpetrator s system has great bearing on their behavior and frame of mind. As a result, the amount of
alcohol in a person s blood can serve as a strong piece of evidence. From a sentencing standpoint, the
level of legal consequences assigned to an individual is also be dependent on the amount of
intoxication detected [1]. With these consequences in mind, it is imperative that the test used to
measure ethanol levels is reliable and accurate. If there is a possibility that the enzymatic assays used
widely throughout hospitals can be inaccurate under certain conditions, it is necessary that the users
and interpreters of those assays know that interference can occur and when it might happen. If markers
can be developed to determine when further testing for ethanol should be done, the reliability of the
test will be greatly increased. In this study, the aim will be to determine if lactate and LDH in
clinically possible antemortem concentrations can cause a significant

The Lost Girls
25 of the best historical fiction books
If you re one of those people who insist that reading about history is boring, then you re not alone.
From the dry memorization of wars and rulers to the watered down way that textbooks depict
controversial events of the past, lessons on history can really become a snooze. Believe it or not, the
way history is presented is what will leave you uninterested. But when you re imagine the past and
reflect on past social conditions that still plague society today it s easier to resuscitate those important
moments from the past that seem dead. My advice? Breathe life back into the forgotten moments of
history by reading a good, historical fiction book.

  • 2. Children In The Romantic Period Page of 5 ZOOM Smith1Austin D. SmithENGL 25111 19 17It s a hard knock lifeChildren of the Romantic Period became more prevalent not only in the politics of society, but also within the poetry, composition, and political debates of the time period. Such a controversy arose due to society s understanding of what it meant to be a child of the Romantic Period. Prior to the nineteenth century, children were viewed as having an identity in correlation to the parents. However, this began to change at the turn of the Romantic Period with the introduction of more prominent children s literature rising to popularity within society via the literary and political figures of politicians. The figure of the child prompted poetry and political debate during the Romantic period. This debate occurred because society reconsidered what it meant to be a child. Before the nineteenth century, children were seldom viewed as having an identity separate from adults. Children were viewed as miniature adults or adults in training. Most children were orphans, but even families with both parents living might still have to fight Smith2to survive. During the Industrial Revolution, working class children were often sent to work at an early age in factories and workshops, depending on where their families lived, whereas in earlier periods they would have done mostly agricultural work. • 3. Character Analysis Of Brutus Cassius states, Caesar doth bear me hard; but he loves Brutus. Cassius sees that Brutus can be manipulated both in spite of and because of his nobility. Cassius flatters Brutus and appeals to his perception of equality. He justifies murdering his closest friend, Ceaser, harming both himself and the people of Rome. He is proud of his reputation for honor and nobleness, but he sometimes is not the most practical man, and is often naive. He is the only major character in the play dedicated to make his behavior fit a strict moral and ethical code. Shakespeare uses the assassination of Caesar to develop ways to show the complexity of Brutus and his character throughout the play. He cannot justify, to his own satisfaction, the murder of a man who is a friend and who has not misused the powers of his office. Consequently, thinking of the assassination in terms of a ritual instead of a murder makes it more acceptable to him. Unfortunately for Brutus, he misunderstands the citizens of Rome. In William Shakespeare s Julius Caesar, Brutus is naive, because he exhibits characteristics flaws such as foolishness, idealism, and self righteousness, which eventually lead to his killing of Caesar and himself. Brutus s naive personality leads him to be easily manipulated by others. Cassius tells the other conspirators his plan in the killing of Caesar. The other conspirators believe that it would be a smart idea to do it the following day, due to Caesar receiving his crown. The conspirators decide that it would only work to involve Brutus in on the plan too. The conspirators agree they will only get Brutus on their side if they write fake letters to Brutus saying they are from the people of Rome. Later that night Brutus finds the letters and reads them. After reading the letters, Brutus States, ... Speak, strike, redness. I am entreated / o speak and strike? O Rome, I make thee promise / If the redness will follow, thou receivest / Thy full petition at the hand of Brutus (II.i.55 58). After reading the letters, he feels he needs to join the conspirators. So Brutus agrees to the plan and tells the conspirators what he plans to do. Cassius knew that the conspirators could not assassinate Caesar without Brutus support. Brutus ... • 4. Social Classes In Mycenaean Civilization Society: The difference of classes in societal structure can be derived from the goods that were buried in their graves. It is clear that there was a strong, ruling class and a lower group containing mostly the common people. The political hierarchy consisted of the The Wanax (or King), at the top, who was the political and religious leader. Below him were the local chiefs and controllers who looked after administrative duties. The safety of the state was the responsibility of the Lawagetas, the head of the army. Because of this efficient hierarchy, the Mycenaean Age was economically and culturally affluent, while weapons, arms and armaments found in graves and sites confirm their society as military inclined. Clinical Signs Of Bvdv Infection Laboratory diagnosis The clinical signs of BVDV infection are highly variable and there are many factors that affect severity of infection like viral strain, age of affected animals, immune status, reproductive stage and mixed infection. Therefore, diagnosis based on history, clinical signs and postmortem examination should be considered only as preliminary diagnosis. The accurate and confirmatory diagnosis of BVDV infection depends only on laboratory diagnosis. 1 Virus isolation BVDV isolation in cell culture, followed by identification, is considered as the most reliable method for diagnosis. Many different clinical samples are suitable for BVDV isolation during the viremia stage as nasal discharges, peripheral blood leukocytes, serum, semen, aborted fetuses and feces. However, presence of maternal antibodies in serum and buffy coat samples from newly born animals may neutralize the virus and decrease the sensitivity of virus isolation. Virus isolation methods are labor intensive and may take several weeks. Furthermore, virus isolation cannot differentiate between PI animals and transiently infected animals. The FBS used as supplement for propagation of cell lines should be tested for BVDV contamination before usage to avoid false positive results. Dubovi et al. 2013 stated that there are many factors that may affect the success in BVDV isolation and discussed the misconception that BVDV isolation is the gold standard for diagnosis. Everything in the unconscious seeks outward manifestation, and the personality too desires to evolve out of its unconscious conditions. Rather, Jung sought a balance in which unconscious elements were given an equal role, complementary to that of consciousness Jung s description of personality types is one of the more straightforward aspects of his theory. According to the original merit plan, the rating system used valid and valuable criteria but the uneven distribution suggested its extreme leniency. • 13. Theological Symbolism in Cool Hand Luke Essay In the 1967 prison film Cool Hand Luke, directed by Stuart Rosenberg, there are many examples of theological symbolism and religious themes. Most of the symbolism alludes to Jesus Christ, which is often utilized in film to add depth to the protagonist in the story. Such Christ figure symbolism can also be seen in films such as the 1999 hit The Matrix and the original Star Wars film (1977). Along with these visual suggestions, there are also thematic elements that underlie Cool Hand Luke which involve Biblical allusions and metaphysical questions. The film revolves around a man named Lucas Jackson, portrayed by the legendary actor Paul Newman, who is sentenced to two years in a small suburban jail. He is convicted for destroying public ... Luke s goal was to challenge the establishment (to which he seemed to think was unjust) and make an example of hope for his fellow men in that they wouldn t have to bow down to Dragline. Interestingly enough, after this fight, Dragline becomes acquainted with Luke and becomes very friendly. Another scene that had a similar theme of crucifixion was when Luke boasted he could eat fifty eggs in the span of an hour. All of the inmates gather around him while Dragline fed him the eggs. Luke was taking this challenge in order to prove himself to the inmates, as well as to make money from all the bets placed on him. After he finishes eating the fifty eggs, he lies on the table with his arms outstretched. The camera zooms out and focuses on Luke on the table for a few seconds, which further reinforces the image of the crucifixion. Although there are not many direct implications from this scene as to what Luke was sacrificing himself for, it may have been for the fifty inmates at the jail. Perhaps Luke was sacrificing his stomach to stimulate the small economy in the prison, since everyone seemed to be profiting in some form after his challenge. The image of the crucifixion also occurs at the end of the film, when Dragline is reminiscing about Luke s actions, and a photograph of Luke is placed on crossroad which creates a cross. The piece as a whole is one that pulls the strings of your heart from the first pound to the last mystic moment of silence. It has been a year since I heard the orchestral piece in full, and ever since, I have been awaiting to get an opportunity like that again. It is unfortunately a rare occurance in my generation to feel so strongly about a piece of art. The world is at our fingertips, and yet we have no urge to explore it. According to Gustav, the Planets were a depiction of life and the many stages of its progression. As a young adult and musician this suite inspired a new way of seeing, feeling, and hearing life. Thierry Fischer, a music director at Utah Symphony wrote, Holst denied that the suite has any connection to the classical Zodiac other than the names and traits of the personified planets, that connection by itself is enough for the music to conjure strong images of the mythological deities associated with each. Mars, the bringer of war, begins with five quiet yet dominant beats in a reverberating 5/4 rhythm. As the movement continues we hear the grinding minor chords, which leaves the ear unsettled. When Demeratus wanted to notify Sparta that the king of Persia, Xerxes, intended to invade Greece, he wrote this message on a tablet and covered it with wax. To recover the message the other people in Sparta simply had to scrape the wax off the tablet [3]. 1.3 Steganography The basic concept is that it has a cover object that is used to cover the original message image, a host object that is the message or main image which is to be transmitted and the steganography algorithm to carry out the required object. The output is an image called stego image which has the message image inside it, hidden. • 24. Using Two Transmit Diversity Scheme 1.2 LITERATURE REVIEW [1]S. M. Alamouti, describes a simple two branch transmit diversity scheme. Using two transmit antenna and one receive antenna, the new transmit antenna provides the same diversity order as maximal ratio receiver combining (MRRC) with one transmit and two receive antennas. The scheme easily be generated to two transmit antenna and M receive antenna to provide a diversity order of 2M. This scheme does not require any bandwidth expansion any feedback from the receiver to the transmitter and its computation complexity is similar to MRRC. This also provide diversity improvement to all the remote units in a wireless system, using two transmit antennas at the base station instead of two receive antenna at all the remote terminals. [2]Vahid Tarokh, proposed that data is encoded by a channel code and encoded data is split into n streams that are simultaneously transmitted using n transmit antennas. The received signal at the each receive antenna is a linear superposition of the n transmitted perturbed by noise. The code constructed here provides the best trade off between data rate, diversity advantage, and trellis complexity. Maximum likelihood decoding is achieved in a simple way through decoupling of the signal transmitted from different antennas rather than joint detection and significant gain can be achieved by using the increasing number of transmit chains with the very little decoding complexity. Oxford, along with Bologna, Paris, and Montpelier belonged to the primary band of European universities in medieval times (Cobban 4). The universities in the Middle Ages existed not solely for the purpose of teaching, but also to facilitate research and debate, and that its curriculum covered both religious and secular subjects ( Legacies of the Middle Ages ). In addition to the four main disciplines of study previously mentioned, logical analysis applied to all subjects being studied. In the Middle Ages, students gained a facility in the application of rational argument to intellectual propositions, the essence of the scholastic method as it had evolved from the twelfth century and even earlier (Cobban 150). Students attending medieval English universities studied the trivium, consisting of classes focusing on the effective usage of logic, grammar, and rhetoric. Arithmetic and astronomy, a mix of classical, Arabic, and contemporary sources, also played a major role in specific subjects studied in medieval universities (Cobban 155 57). Although the universities in medieval times taught subjects that are worldly, English scholars were subject to ecclesiastical courts. How Did The Mahele Impact The Hawaiians Mahele means land division in Hawaiian and within the land division it was split into four parts, the King, chiefs, commoners, and could be purchased by the foreigners (Borreca). I will be exploring just that in this paper by evaluating the net benefit to a community and its lasting impact on the individual performing mandatory versus voluntary service. I was drawn to this topic after listening to Tovia Smith s podcast, Selfish Giving: Does It Count If You Get In Return?. I believe that the Center for Justice and Reconciliation is correct that offenders and high school students both partake in mandatory community service but for different reasons. High school students use service to get into college while offenders use service to make amends with the community they have harmed. Both Smith and the Center for Justice and Reconciliation agree that service is good but differ on what makes it efficient. Jocasta ruthlessly abandons her son Oedipus in order to save her husband, favouring conjugal love over the mother child bond. Althea decides to burn the branch that kept her son Meleager alive after he had killed her brothers. The function of these challenging examples of women who favour others over their children, and as such are branded as bad mothers, could be found in the desire to show the destructive force of phallic women, who turn the typical representation of female characters as sources of life in negative death bringers. Desire of revenge, fear and pain pushed these mythological characters to act against social expectations by giving prominence to their own subjectivity or to relationships other than filial. Medea favoured her own desire of hurting Jason, by depriving him of his beloved children, over her maternal love. Alcohol analysis and its consequences for postmortem cases also forms a large part of the forensic toxicologist s workload [1 2]. Although gas chromatography mass spectrometry (GCMS) or gas chromatography flame ionization detection (GC FID) is the most accurate and reliable method of determining blood alcohol concentration (BAC), it is expensive, time consuming, and requires technical proficiency manhours [1 2]. Therefore, BAC determination in a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, there is still contention over its existence, prevalence, and severity; this is evidenced by recent articles and court cases contesting its relevance [3,7] . It is problematic that almost every mention of this phenomenon goes back to a single study in 1995 that failed to put the issue to rest [6]. Forensically, this research has multiple implications. The presence and level of alcohol in a victim or perpetrator s system has great bearing on their behavior and frame of mind. As a result, the amount of alcohol in a person s blood can serve as a strong piece of evidence. From a sentencing standpoint, the level of legal consequences assigned to an individual is also be dependent on the amount of intoxication detected [1]. With these consequences in mind, it is imperative that the test used to measure ethanol levels is reliable and accurate. If there is a possibility that the enzymatic assays used widely throughout hospitals can be inaccurate under certain conditions, it is necessary that the users and interpreters of those assays know that interference can occur and when it might happen. If markers can be developed to determine when further testing for ethanol should be done, the reliability of the test will be greatly increased. In this study, the aim will be to determine if lactate and LDH in clinically possible antemortem concentrations can cause a significant ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
