John s Dress Code
Thy word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path.
Psalms 119:105
John had finally been hired as a security officer in a large bank where he felt that he had more
prestige, simply because there was more money in his pockets each week! During his training
period, John was given a book on the banks policies, one of which described the dress code; only
white or blue shirts. clip on ties and navy pants.
John went to work each night ecstatic and happy that he was moving up in the world, his only
negative feelings about his job was the dress code! Although, he followed it obediently, John was
old school and all of his ties were just that neckties not the clip on s that he was made to wear.
Those clip on ties were so short for his ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The more this outsider pulled it, the tighter it got around his neck and John now felt himself being
choked to death.
If it wasn t for the intervention of another officer, John may have died that night. And, it was all
because he had not been wearing a clip on tie, how foolish, how shortsighted John felt now!
Had he worn a clip on tie, it would have come right off his neck and John would not have been
choked at all. He finally saw the rational behind the banks police book, the dress code they had
developed and the difference behind wearing a clip on tie verses his own neckties!
How many times have we fallen short or battled, simply because we chose not to listen to God s
Word? Perhaps, God was telling us to walk down a pathway that seemed uncertain in our eyes or
perchance we were looking for an easier road to travel on!
David is telling us... that by reading, knowing and trusting God s Word, we have a lamp light
that provides daily directions to where God is leading us! God s Word is a light that brings
understanding to our hearts and minds for living out His daily plan for each of our

Summary Of Joseph J. Ellis The Silence In Founding Brothers
The Silence in Founding Brothers by Joseph J. Ellis is one of the most distracting chapters in the
book. We know, and the founding brothers knew, that abolishing slavery was the right thing to do.
In this chapter Ellis tries to explain that slavery was a bigger problem than just choosing right from
wrong, and that ending slavery could divide the nation in half. This chapter describes the debate
that took place where the founding brothers had the opportunity to argue about the most volatile
topic facing the nation. The different personalities, ideologies, and compromises of the founding
brothers shaped this ongoing debate.
The main characters in The Silence were Benjamin Franklin who tried to abolish slavery; Thomas
Jefferson who idealistically ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
America s original intentions (88) were open for interpretation. Thomas Jefferson s ideology
concerning slavery was just as inspiring as his Revolutionary ideology against tyranny. In,
Notes on the State of Virginia, Jefferson wrote that all slaves born after 1800 would eventually
become free (90) .He believed that slavery should not expand into the Western territories. In the
Norwest Ordinance he wrote there shall be neither slavery nor involuntary servitude in the said
territory . Jefferson s revolutionary ideology was inspiring but not effective in solving the
problems associated with slavery. It was Madison s cautious approach, or his inaction that
prevailed. He appealed to the Northerners by acknowledging that slavery was immoral, but
rejected proposing a federal law and believed that slavery should be dealt with at the state level,
which appealed to the Southerners. Madison used political rhetoric to avoid the threats of
secession of Southern states and kept the issue of slavery out of federal control. The house
debate of March 23 shifted antislavery votes in Madison s favor prohibiting Congress from
prohibiting slavery. So that Congress had no authority to interfere in the emancipation of slaves.
So the founders succeeded in taking slavery off the table for political debate. The silence may
have helped to keep things in balance while the North and South were becoming more divided on
the issue and party politics were starting to form. The course of history may have changed if the
founding fathers did not avoid the issue of slavery, or if Benjamin Franklin could have continued to
make history, but history started making

Quality And Safety Of Neonatal Care
Quality and Safety in Neonatal Care in Nursing Practice Infants within the neonatal intensive care
unit (NICU) are one of the most vulnerable patient population in the hospital. The quality and
safety of these patients are at top priority because of their immune systems have not fully
developed yet causing them to be at the highest risk for infections. According to the Institute of
Medicine (IOM, 2001), quality is defined as the degree to which health services for individuals and
populations increase the likelihood of desired health outcomes and are consistent with current
professional knowledge (Masters, 2005). The Quality and Safety Education for Nurses (QSEN)
defines safety as, the minimization of risk of harm to patients and... Show more content on

Scope of Quality and Safety in NICU practice Patient s in the NICU are considered to be very
tiny and fragile and immunocompromised due to their immature organ systems which can lead to
many dangerous medical problems. Patricia W. Stone states maintaining a safe environment
reflects a level of compassion and vigilance for patient welfare that is as important as any other
aspect of competent health care (Stone, 2008). The patient s safety should always be a top
concerned for a nurse because in a health care facility the purpose is to heal the patient and get
them on the road to recovery. Nurses must learn from the errors of the past and use their knowledge
to improve the quality of nursing to the patients to ensure if errors do happen again that the use of
evidence based practices are put into place to improve their outcomes. According to Higher Quality
of Care and Patient Safety, Registered Nurses (RNs) are instrumental in achieving multiple care
goals, including promoting infant health and clinical stability, maintaining the integrity and
cleanliness of central catheters, and preparing families for their role in infant care and successful
transition it home (Lake, 2016). Nurses are reasonable for the education of the families of the
patients to ensure that the best quality of care for the patient is maintained outside the hospital to
ensure the best medical outcome for the infants.

Different Ways Organisms Make Sounds
Five different ways organisms make sounds would be by sonar (echolocation), drumming, clicking,
beating, and singing. First, bats use sonar, also known as echolocation, to help them navigate
through their surroundings and catch food. A sound wave is produced from the bat and returns as
an echo. A bat s sonar helps them comprehend the size, location, and the direction the object is
moving in by listening to the echoes that return. Second, termites, as well as many other animals
and insects, use drumming as a way of communication. Termites bang their heads against the
ground to warn other termites about danger or when they feel threatened. In most termite species,
only soldier termites would produce the warning signal by drumming their heads against the
ground. Other... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Next, gorillas beat their chest to communicate with one another. Usually male gorillas beat their
chest to display their dominance among the group or to challenge another gorilla when approached.
Most gorillas will beat their chest when they feel threatened, whether it s by another gorilla, an
animal, or even a human. Gorillas will also beat their chest when they re excited, alarmed, or
marking their territory when another group of gorillas advance. Finally, Toads/frogs and birds are
two common species that sing to communicate. Male toads/frogs sing to attract the attention of
female toads/frogs during mating season. Other times, toads/frogs will sing to mark their territory
or because the weather is going to change. During the morning, usually around dawn, most male
birds sing to attract a mate and keep other male birds away from their area. Male birds have their
own signature song, each with a different variation. The songs sung during dawn are clearer and
more consistent than those heard throughout the day. Birds will sing warning calls when they feel
threatened and/or notify nearby birds of

every last Friday of the month. On special days, we have more recess time and get to do lots of
fun activities. The bad thing about my school is when you get into bad trouble bad things will
always happen to some of us.
In the sixth grade, I can have so much homework to do. Can the teachers just give us a break? We
have to have loads of homework. In class, we always have to take a test. The test is always going to

Individualism And Individualism
Individualism has swept our current society. Teenagers like myself constantly are bombarded
with television, radio, social media, and music that pushes a person to be unique and strive to be
themselves. With this new agenda on the rise, comes a new thinking of self confidence. This
thinking in return, has led to many teenagers making big decisions that impact them on a much
larger scale than the surface level might show. The issue at hand has slowly began to create a
culture in which many immature teenagers begin making mature decisions without thinking the
consequences through. Over time, modern day media has turned these negative mistakes into a
perception of positive results. With millions of young adults interacting with social media on a
daily basis, this small issue could grow into having a major effect on society. Parents or
guardians should decide whether teenagers get piercings or tattoos and society must put a stop to
the idea of individualism in the minds of teenagers while getting back to the root of success;
respect, standards, and work ethic. Many adolescents that have body markings are more likely to
participate in high risk behavior and dangerous activities. According to a 58 question survey taken
by Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Youth Risk Behavior Survey, Sean Carroll, a
pediatrician and writer for American Academy of Pediatrics claims, Participants with tattoos and/or
piercings were more likely to have engaged in risk taking behaviors and

Essay On Occupational Therapist
Everyone has helped someone at least once in their life, but occupational therapist help people
everyday. Occupational therapists are the ones to call when someone need help doing daily
activities. For the longest time I knew that I liked helping people. I like watching the joyful
reaction of people when they learn something new. After researching more about the work
environment, the education needed, and the salary, I can see that his career is a good possibility
for me. Occupational therapists (or OTs ) help people improve or learn new activities and make
differences in people s lives. Working with people and heavy equipment can still have it s risks

Starbucks Case Study
Starbucks case study 1 I think the most important management skills for Schultz to have are the
conceptual skills. Since Schultz is the chairman of Starbucks, which means he is the top manager of
the company, the conceptual skills are the most important for him to have. Mostly because
conceptual skills help him see the organization as a whole. It helps the manager understand the
relationship among the various subunits, and visualize how the organization fits into its broader
environment. In fact the conceptual skills are defined as the ability to think and to conceptualize
about abstract and complex situations. But as we can see in the case Schultz proved he had good

Starbucks managers and especially top managers face another issue, they have to be a learning
organization. This means an organization that has developed the capacity to continuously learn,
adapt and change. But I think based on the text that Howard Schultz has proven his possession to
this quality as an individual, but he has to transform it from an individual asset to a company s goal
and way of doing things. 4 The interpersonal roles that Howard Schultz might perform are the ones
that involve people, like being the figurehead of his organization which means he represents it in all
matters of formality legally and socially to those outside of the organization like attending
ceremonies, doing interviews..., being the leader this role defines the relationships between the
manager and employees (encourage his employees to improve productivity, solve conflicts...), and
liaison role (coordinating activities of two projects, interacting with people outside the
organization...). He might also perform the informational roles that are primarily concerned with
the information aspects of managerial work that involves collecting, receiving, and disseminating
information. In the monitor role, Schultz

African Americans Should Be Banned Essay
Although the CITES banned the poaching of Asian and African elephants and international trade in
the mid 1980 s, many organizations have been posting anti ivory trade promotion on their website
(Stiles, 309). Websites such as International Fund for Animal Welfare (IFAW), Born Free
Foundation, Care for the Wild International, and the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS)
(Stiles, 309). Many of the southern countries of Africa do not agree with the African elephantban
(Stiles, 309). They ve been against the ban since around the mid 1980 s (Stiles, 309). People from
the southern countries of Africa have been arguing because they don t believe they should be
penalized because other countries don t know how to handle their wildlife (Stiles, 309). The

They also noticed that out of the 149 elephant sample they had, two of those elephants were killed
for the mean while the other 149 were killed for the ivory (Jachmann Billiouw, 235). This making
a big concerned. Out of all those 149 elephants being poached, only two being used for a living is
impressive. The rest were just killed for only two little things, that have a value but yet is not worth
the killing of a mammal.
Poaching has been increasing for many years. The number of poaching cases throughout the
decades have been increasing. In the 1970 s and 1980 s, the ivory demand grew drastically
making poaching for ivory increase throughout these years (Stiles, 309). CITES recommended to
use a system called Monitoring the Illegal Killing of Elephants (MIKE) in which helped monitor
the illegal killing of elephants (Stiles, 312). Also, to try and qualify the number of those elephants
killed by poachers (Scriber). The system has been working well that now monitors between 30 and
40 percent of the elephant population

Taking a Look at Addison s Disease
Autoimmune diseases are very common. There are over 23.5 million Americans who suffer
from such diseases. Women of child bearing age and people with a family history of
autoimmune diseases are more likely to be affected by these diseases. Addison s can also occur
in dogs. This type of disease is one that is caused by the attack of healthy cells and tissue. The
immune system can t tell the difference between the healthy tissue and the bad one and it attacks
the normal one creating an autoimmune disorder. Autoimmune disorders can destroy body tissue,
change the function of an organ, or cause abnormal growth in an organ. Parts of the body that are
usually affected by these disorders are joints, muscles, blood vessels, endocrine glands, or other
organs. There is a wide variety of autoimmune diseases. More than 80 kinds of diseases have been
discovered.
One common autoimmune disease is Addison s disease. Addison s occurs when your body creates
antibodies which attach onto your adrenal cortex and destroys the cells which create cortisol, and
aldosterone. This may not seem to be a big deal but, it is life threatening. Cortisol is a hormone
which responds to stress, increases blood sugar, and suppresses the immune system. . It also helps
regulate the metabolism. When there is a lack of cortisol you can have symptoms such as diarrhea,
inability to handle stress, vomiting, loss of appetite, and much more. Aldosterone works with blood
pressure, and helps regulate the salt and water

How Does Roman Polanski Use Cinematic Techniques In The...
How does Polanski convey the notion of man s inhumanity through cinematic techniques in The
Pianist? Roman Polanski s The Pianist, released in 2002, shares a realistic encounter of man s
inhumanity in World War II. Full of scenes that show the ruthless behaviour of the Nazis, Polanski
presents the idea of man s inhumanity at the time of Hitler s rise to power in Germany through
skilful cinematography. Although Polanski uses many different cinematic techniques, three of
them are more strongly drawn upon than others: lighting, camera angles, and sound. The lighting
in the film works around a realistic perception of style, reflecting the situation in World War II.
The use of dull colours emphasises the depressive feeling of the characters. An example of this
can be seen in an interior scene of an apartment of one of Szpilman s friends who is trying to help
him. Bright, natural lighting is used to create a clear opposition between the world of the
protagonist and the Polish people who are considered more privileged. This... Show more content on

This scene begins with a tracking shot of the Jews entering the umschlagplatz. As the camera
zooms out to a high angle view of the umschlagplatz from the outside of the barbed wire fence,
the significance of this information is revealed. This forces the viewers to witness the
imprisonment and the powerlessness of the Jews and thus man s inhumanity. Through the
cinematography of the scene of the wasteland, the viewers are witnessing the ruins of the war.
Man s inhumanity is once again revealed, as Szpilman is portrayed to be a prisoner in what
seems to be an endless ruin of buildings and empty houses. With the use of the high camera angle,
Szpilman appears to be lonely and helpless, and the endless rows of ruined buildings and houses

I can t recall not being a part of New Hope Baptist Church because when I was growing up my

Milton Reid was New Hope Baptist Church s first full time pastor. Before Rev. Reid came to
New Hope s the pastor only served on the second and fourth Sunday. Our communion was held
on the second Sunday. Rev. Reid changed the communion to the first Sunday and rearranged the
choir. He gave the Senior Choir the first and third Sunday and the Junior Choir the second and
fourth Sunday. My mother made robes for the choir and even embroidered names in them to
prevent any mix ups. She also ordered sheet music for us from the Theodore Presser Company in
Chicago, Illinois. At the time there were no available places in the area to purchase sheet music.
These things were done by the Grace of God and at no expense to the church. We had rehearsal
every Monday night. The memories are pleasant even though for many years during the winter
months there was no automatic heat. I would go to the church ahead of time to make a fire.
Most of the time my father would help me, and sometime I was on my own. I would make sure
the fire would burn before going back home then return later for rehearsal if it was not warm when
the choir members came in they would gather around the potbellied stove and I was up front on the
piano with my coat on. By the time the church really got good and warm, it was time to

Variable Selection Via Penalized Likelihood Plays An...
Variable selection via penalized likelihood plays an important role in statistics and machine
learning. In this paper, we first review some classical methods like AIC, BIC, Mallow s Cp, then
discuss some regularization methods including Lasso, adaptive Lasso, elastic net, adaptive
elastic net and group Lasso. We also consider the application of regularization methods in
generalized linear model, Cox s model and time series analysis. At the end, we give suggestions
for future work. 1 Classical Method The problem of variable selection is always the center of
statistical research. Some classical methods like best subset selection, forward selection and
backward elimination are proposed to handing massive data set. These methods are basically
based on the idea of grid search. For example, the best subset selection searches the optimal
model by all possible combination of the predictors. The forward selection find the best model by
adding one predictor at each time, while the backward elimination finds the best model by
removing one predictor at each time. Although these methods are powerful and accurate, they also
cost a lot. For instance, suppose our model has 10 predictors, if we run the best subset selection to
get the optimal model, we need to compare 1024 combinations of the predictors. It is unrealistic to
perform such method in our real life because it time consuming. As a result, more efficient methods
to solve the problem of variable selection are urgently desired. In

The Homosexuality As An Interdisciplinary Theorization Of...
The proposition of my paper is to propose the homosexuality as an interdisciplinary theorization of
Caravaggio s artwork done in Rome. The purpose of this paper is to not dig deeper into the
homosexuality of Caravaggio but to give a different representation and perspective of
homosexuality. This paper does not discuss the actual sexuality of Caravaggio, but more so how we
perceive norms that can differentiate with connotations to sexuality in Rome during his lifetime.
Homosexualityis intertwined with norm systems that concerns sexuality. Caravaggio has some
significant traits in his early art work done in Rome such as sensualism and the extensive use of
charm. The sensual charisma has been extensively explained in religious terms and given a
simpler cultural context by Maurizio Calvesi. There have been many debates where Caravaggio
was a homosexual or not, based on the paintings he had done that had young men and young boys
with seductive trances on their faces. The few examples of this would be The Cardsharps, Boy
bitten by a lizard, The Lute Player, Bacco, the Musicans, Boy with a Basket of Fruit, St John the
Baptist. Also, to contribute to the assumption that Caravaggio was a homosexual was the private
paintings he has done which include a naked Pluto, Jupiter, and Neptune, in order to symbolize a
perfect human in an inhumane world. The paintings on the ceilings help bring to light the social
culture that shows the norms directly connected to sexuality in Rome at

Freedom Of Choice In Walt Whitman s I Hear America Singing
Being in American isn t standing up for the pledge, not just taking a moment of silence, and not
just celebrating the 4th of July. Being an American means having freedom in choosing your own
path, opportunity in creating your own destiny, and a hard working mentality to achieve your
goals. Since the beginning of the establishment of the United State; people have wanted the
freedom of choice. Immigrants long for it, and Americans have the ability to carry it out. We
first see freedom of choice in I Hear America Singing by Walt Whitman. The poem sates, The
shoemaker singing as he sits in his bench, the hatter singing as he stands, the woodcutter s song
(12). The following excerpt displays the freedom of choice in the lower class, or the blue collar

that you are free to choose whatever job you want. Secondly we see this idea of freedom of choice

displays that despite her current predicament she is willing to do whatever it takes to have a better
life for herself; she inherits a hard working mentality just like an American has. Next example of
hard working mentality in Americans is in the poem I, Too Sing America by Langston Hughes. In
the poem Langston Hughes writes, Tomorrow, I ll be at the table when company comes (3). This
shows that he s not satisfied with his current situation and despite his predicament he still wants
better for himself and doesn t stop his admirations. This is what it means to be an American; having

The Common Man, Nothing More Than A Phantom
Though Wall Street seems to be an enigma to the common man, nothing more than a phantom one
hears about constantly. Many view Wall Street in a negative light because they seem to be living in
an elite exclusive parallel world, where they are untouched by the economic disasters they cause. In
some way they really are living in a parallel world, in the sense that Wall Street has its own culture
that is separate from other surrounding cultures. In Biographies of Hegemony author Karen Ho
explores this sub culture especially focusing on their recruitment methodology. One of the parts of
their culture is the word smart which means something different to them. Smartness implies that
recruits standardize themselves and Investment Bankscustomize themselves in order to be
impressive to each other and because Wall Street s business relies on impressiveness.
The recruits have to tailor themselves to find into a box, model of the ideal candidate , that
Investment Banks are looking for. To be hired employers and recruiters need to ensure that they fit
into the Wall Street Lifestyle, the expensiveness, the exclusivity, and the impressiveness. Wall
Street is looking for a specific candidate, because as Ho points out, The key criterion of smartness
is to wow the clients... smartness must be represented and reinforced by a specific appearance and
bodily technique that dominantly signals that impressiveness... (Ho 167). The ideal candidate is

Walt Whitman And Allen Ginsberg s Poetry
Follow your inner moonlight; don t hide the madness. You say what you want to say when you
don t care who s listening. Walt Whitman was a brilliant writer of his time, a writer that created a
voice for the masses to no longer be a mass, but an individual. He was truly a pioneer of his
generation, a revolutionary in thought, and this is not his quote. Due to his paralleled lifestyle to
Walt Whitman, Allen Ginsberglearned and drew inspiration from such works as Leaves of Grass to
apply towards his own book, Howl and Other Poems in the 1960s.
The lives that they lived mirrored one another, in a way bringing the two poets closer despite a

The younger years are the most influential, there is no doubt that Ginsberg stored Whitman s
messages in his heart and kept the morals throughout his life. Proof of this lies in Ginsberg s
alteration of religious views. Kaddish in Judaism is meant as a mourning prayer, a title meant as
reflection of Ginsberg s mothers mental problems. Though Ginsberg s origins were Jewish, he
would convert to a Buddhist belief system which would subsume into his work and themes. Walt
Whitman was a humanist, part of the transition between transcendentalism and realism that played
a major role in the writing of that generation. When Whitman figures Leaves of Grass as the
product of a harmonious identity between the human body, human society, and the natural
environment, a realm distinguished by an intense focus on the material existence of the human
body, and a radical freedom consisting in an unfettered identification of the body with its material
environment (Nineteenth Century Literature Criticism). The belief of letting go of material value
and place a value in self discovery.
In their respective time periods both Ginsberg and Whitman held the same purpose in their poetic
compositions. Whitman would chastise the American society for being money driven. Although the
Civil War had ended and the need for income was desperate, this desire for wealth had flourished
into the American mind set. The opening of the west, the surge of immigration, the melding of a

most common to catch the disease between March and May. You are infectious from about two
days before the rash appears until roughly five days after. ChickenPox can be passed onto
someone, by any form of contact. For example if your coughed on or have contact with a person
with chickenpox. For chickenpox, the time from infection to the appearance of the rash is around
14 to 16 days. A few days before the appearance of the rash, the person may feel feverish and have
a sore throat and headache. The skin may be marked for some months after rash has cleared. Before

Effects Of The Berlin Conference On Africa
The Berlin Conference was were 14 nations, during 1884 1885, came together and discussed the
rules for all the divisions in Africa. They came together because all these countries had in visioned
war stirring among themselves. Any of these European countries could claim apart of Africa if they
had told the other nations about it first and showing that that country could keep it in control. The
Europeans completely disregarded how the African ethnic and linguistic groups were divided and
divided themselves among the all of Africawithout any thought of these African groups. The
conference sealed Africa s fate even though no African leader was invited to the meetings. The only

In paternalism, the African people were treated in paternal ways by providing for their needs, but
not giving them rights. The Europeans believed the Africans were to dumb to handle a country
and its business rights. So, the Europeans governed the people in a paternal way by meeting their
needs but not allowing them any rights. In Social Darwinism the attitude was that one race was
superior to other. Charles Darwin s ideas about evolution and natural selection were applied to
human society. Those who were the fittest for survival enjoyed wealth and success and
considered superior. Non Europeans were considered lower then the Europeans because they
hadn t advanced in technology yet. Both paternalism and Social Darwinism were ways you

Fracking Environmental Issues
Considering my major is environmental studies I have chosen to focus this week s journal entry on
threatening environmental issues. My first issue surrounds the water crisis in California and the
second I ll be focusing on the controversial issue of fracking.
The drought in California has presented some controversial and difficult issues for the residents of
the state. Due to the lack of rain and fresh water the state has began, with no regulation, pumping
irreplaceable groundwater to aid the drought. This is an out of sight crisis considering it is
invisible in the average persons life. Furthermore, as long as residents are continuing to have
access to water in their homes and work places the crisis is largely out of sight out of mind.
However, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Fracking is also referred as hydraulic fracturing in which rock is fractured by a pressurized liquid
to further create cracks and openings underground to extract more free flowing components such as
natural gas, petroleum, and brine. Millions of frac jobs have been performed on oil and gas wells
worldwide to further extract more shale gas, tight gas, tight oil and coral seam gas. This highly
controversial issue of greed and depletion of deeply bounded fossil fuels is extremely important.
The argumentative basis of this matter is between those whom benefit and have more readily
available accessible hydrocarbons and the people who are aware of the potential hazardous
environmental effects. Hydraulic fracturing greatly threatens the risk of ground and surface water
contamination, air pollution, noise pollution, and the consequential triggering of earth quakes and
hazardous long term effects that are unknown. This is highly controversial considering the industry
that is already in power of fossil fuel extraction is highly powerful and ran by both government
powers and mass corporate powers with much control on those who regulate. I am on the
opposing side of the fossil greedy powerful organizations who push for fracking and believe that
there are surely alternative solutions. I am personally interested in the issue of fracking because I
know how important and vital clean ground and surface water are for human survival and also
because I am terrified of the technology mankind has came to power over that in which threatens
and potentially could trigger disasters that we have no control over such as earthquakes and
sinking of the land. There are many issues amongst my major that I cold have focused on but I
believe in this current day the largest problems surround the ever so greedy and extreme measures
mankind will take to have power over natural resources,

Statement of Facts On January 1, 2011, Mary Brown (victim) went jogging at 7:00 pm on the
route she had been taking for six months and passing the usual houses. Upon reaching 123 Roper
Street, a man, John Smith (defendant) ran out, tackled her to the ground, jumped on top of her,
and eventually pinned her down. Then the defendant, using a box cutter, stabbed the victim in the
face, making a five inch gash just below her left eye. While cutting the victim, the defendant
stated, I watch you run by here every day and I wave hello to you from my window, but you
never wave back. You think you are too pretty to wave at me, well now you will not be pretty
anymore. The defendant s neighbor, Mike Jones, witnessed the attackand heard everything from his
yard, but was too afraid to stop the attack. John Smith has been charged with aggravated malicious
wounding. Mary Brown is a 30 year old mother of two small children that has resided in the
neighborhood for six years. She had never met the defendant until the attack. In the four years since
the attack, the victim has endured facial numbness, partial paralysis, and plastic surgery. Every day
Mary is reminded of the terrible encounter with John Smith by the permanent five inch scar, he
placed on her face. Trial has been continued several times and the medical expert will not be

George Washington as America s Greatest Leader Essay
George Washington as America s Greatest Leader
An independent country requires a strong, wise and dignified administration to guide a highly
emotional population through a tough phase while establishing a stable relationship with other
nations. At the same time, the first president, guided by his administration, must create a charter to
govern the nation. Being the first president of the United States of America and a new face on the

He simply declared neutrality by saying that he believed that France had actually started the war. [3]
Following Washington s decision to avoid France s war, Washington found himself in a situation
with the French minister to the United States, Edmond Charles Genet. The new minister arrived in
the United States in April 1793 and at once began to hire recruiting agents and to commission
privateers for war on English shipping. Again, President Washington declared his neutrality, but this
time he clearly said to both England and France that he would not aid either, and he even asserted
America s right to trade freely with both.[4]

Europeans did not interfere in American affairs and vice versa. The Europeans would no longer be

Washington stated:

Analysis Of The Myth Of Robber Barons
Throughout American industrialization, large industries were run by some of the richest men in
history. These men got the nickname robber barons due to their creation of large monopolies by
making questionable business and government activities, and by taking advantage of their workers
to succeed. But in The Myth of the Robber Baronsby Burton W. Folsom, he argues against these
claims, and he takes a deeper look into some of America s richest and most successful men. By
specifically looking at Cornelius Vanderbilt, John D. Rockefeller, James J. Hill, the Scranton family
and many more, Folsom believed that these so called robber barons were actually entrepreneurs
with a drive to succeed, leading to an improvement in American lives.

The government also enacted the Hepburn Act, which made shipping internationally difficult on
the railroad. Despite the fact that government grants led to incompetent railroads, the Interstate
Commerce Commission and Hepburn Act were put into place, which made it so Hill could not
offer rate discounts on exports traveling on the Great Northern en route to the Orient which was
helping improve the economy with increased trade. Hill and other market entrepreneurs were not
corrupt or unfair when choosing to not have subsides, but rather the political entrepreneurs were
corrupt and insolvent. Also, Folsom argues that John D. Rockefeller was negatively impacted by
government intervention. The Sherman Act was intended to prevent monopolies and those
companies in restraint of trade . Yet Standard Oilhad no monopoly and certainly was not
restraining trade . Rockefeller s goal was not to create a monopoly but in order to keep his business
succeeding he needed directors in each state. By enacting the Sherman Act, Rockefeller s company
struggled, due to competition rising. These laws essentially stopped the growth of successful
businesses, such as Hill and Rockefeller, who became so successful due to no government
intervention.
Many saw robber barons as deceitful, but this is actually not the case. Within The Myth of Robber
Barons,

others. As shows on page 243, when instead of getting things for Christmas himself, he asks for
shoes for the children in Afghan that have no shoes to keep their feet warm. Another example is
on page 252, where he always had respect and compassion for others, no matter their social

Analysis Of The Poem Lycidas By Paul J. Alpes
The traditional pastoral poems follow a creative style that romanticize rural life and landscapes,
which drifted away from industrialization. The quintessential pastoral poems have been described
by Paul J. Alpes as a double longing after innocence and happiness; that it is based on philosophical
antithesis of Art and Nature; that its universal idea is the Golden Age; that its fundamental motive
is hostility to urban life. (10). Some literary critics have made the assertion that Milton s poem
Lycidasfollows the traditional pastoralconventions, for instance, Samuel Johnson recognized the
poem as a traditional pastoral because it depicted an idealized life of rural leisure. Moreover, he

The speaker challenges the customary idyllic landscape like the laurels and myrtles by
destructively picking the flowers and berries off the trees, instead of the speaker being grounded
in nature like the other speakers in traditional pastoral poems, he destroys it. Furthermore,
Milton turns the pastoral into one of mourning because the speaker s compulsion for disturbing
nature before season due all stems from the death of Lycidas who died in his prime . As the
poem continues, the speaker explains the romanticized pastoral landscape where he and Lycidas
were once shepherds: For were nursed upon the self same hill, / Fed the same flock, by the
fountain, shade, and rill. Together both, ere the high lawns appeared (23 25). These lines display
how the speaker can reach nostalgia with these pastoral fantasies that distance him away from
reality. However, the speaker soon leaves the romantic when he laments about Lycidas: And old
Damoetas loved to hear our song. / But O the heavy change, now thou art gone, (36 37). The
speaker being able to come back to reality demonstrates how the Milton is unable to emphasize the
traditional romantic pastoral setting of peace and joy because of the emotional anguish the speaker
has. Furthermore, Milton alludes to the fact that one must remove themselves from an idealized
world for them to grieve properly. The amount of control that the speaker had over his decision to
leave his pastoral fantasy is

Maharashtra’s maximum irrigation potential
Challenges faced by many countries in their struggle for economic and social developments are
related to water (TAC, GWP 2000: 6) 2. India, too, is a varied country in terms of water availability
and Maharashtra is a peculiar State of it.
Maharashtra has uneven distribution of water resources. A large area is, therefore, water deficit
whereas a small part is bestowed with abundance of water. Maharashtra s physiography has
constraints over the creation of surface water (SW) potential for irrigation purpose. At present, the
area under irrigation is 17.5 per cent out of total cultivable area 3. One study estimates that even
after exploiting all feasible sites, maximum irrigation potential created may reach up to 34 percent.

In line with the policy, GSDA, following its emergence, was inclined towards executing
systematic and scientific hydrogeological surveys for exploration, assessment and development
of GW sources in the State. The organisation began with scientific approach for strategic
development and appropriate policy formulation. During this first phase GSDA carried out
considerable work pertaining to GW development. The core concept was drilling of bore wells
(BW) and hand pump installation to provide drinking water facility to rural population in view of
source dependency. The underlying objective was to provide potable and assured drinking water in
every nook and corner of the State.
State resolved the issue of drinking water scarcity by initiating BW based hand pump programs.
GSDA carried out drilling activities and drilled more than 100,000 BWs. Similarly, GSDA
recommended open dug wells (DW) to tap GW from shallow aquifer 5 that is replenishable under
normal rainfall conditions for irrigational purpose.
Consequently, the role of organisation as service provider helped tackle drinking water scarcity in

greater success of DWs in terms of GW availability. However, it became imperative for
organisations to modify their structure to suit the new roles, new attitudes and approaches in its
functioning. GSDA, too, while performing the

Machiavelli s Discourses On Livy
Niccolo Machiavelli was at his time and continues to be now days one of the most influential and

He argues that it if the natural prince possesses such extreme sagacity, he will always maintain
himself in the state unless deprived by a superior force. Nonetheless, if the natural prince has
reasons enough to irritate his subjects and causes himself to be hated, people will willingly trade
him for another ruler in the hopes that the new ruler will be better than the present one.
Machiavelli says that once the prince is replaced, the state is no longer to be considered a
hereditary principality but be classified as a mixed principality. As Machiavelli had at first noted,
new and mixed principalities are indeed much more difficult to maintain. For it is in new and mixed
principalities that difficulties start to present themselves. Machiavelli states that mutations to form
mixed principalities, in which men change their rulers gladly in the belief that they will better
themselves by the change, arise from a natural difficulty. Unfortunately for the people, problems
for Machiavelli do not stop here, for he argues that it is an infinite number of other wrongs that
follow in the train of new conquests. When the new prince takes over another prince s domain, he
finds himself in a delicate situation with regard to the people who put him in power and with those
whom he injured by seizing that principality. He explains that the new prince has for enemies all
those whom he has injured by seizing that principality; and at the same time he

II.Everyone wants flying to be safe, but the question is what is each person willing to invest for
their safety.
A.Is there a proper balance of time and money?
B.When does a security screen become an invasion of privacy?
C.Should passenger profiling be allowed?

Cleansing is important but shampooing is not
Traditional shampoos are on the list of products to avoid if you are trying to grow and maintain
healthy natural hair. Traditional shampoos use sulfates to cleanse hair and sulfates are extremely

because the cuticle layer does not lie flat and in sticking up manifests itself as frizz. Even straight
hair frizzes so its best to embrace it as straightening ( to counter shrinkage) and using gels and
serums (to counter frizz) can have negative effects on the hair such as heat damage and product

Social Conformity Hypothesis
Social Conformity
Hypothesis: Participants will act in a certain way/ change their opinion in order to conform to the
majority. Social conformity refers to an individual s change in behaviour, beliefs or feelings to
accommodate to the standards of their peers or to conform to social norms. A study carried out in
1932 by Jenness to test social conformity, consisted of 101 psychology students and was an
experimental investigation. Students were asked individually how many jellybeans were in a glass
bottle. The participants were divided into groups and asked to find a group estimate through
discussion. Later students were asked to provide another individual estimate for the purpose to see
if they would change their answers due to social influence. ... Show more content on

At the staring of the investigation, a declaration was to be made by all the participants in regards
to their age. It was necessary that the participants are above of sixteen years of age. There was one
participant who was below the specific age limit. The participant had two choices to choose from to
participate any way neglecting the age requirement or to refrain from participating. If the participant
would have participated, it might have affected the results in more or less amount. However it
resulted into a positive ethical choice where the participant did not participated in the investigation

Perspectives On Psychology And Evaluate Their Key Assumptions
Perspectives in Psychology
This essay will give detailed descriptions of the behaviourist and cognitive perspectives in
psychology and evaluate their key assumptions. The strengths and limitations of each perspective
will be discussed along with an evaluation of their applications to contemporary issues in
psychology. Finally there will be an analysis of the similarities and differences between each
perspective and a conclusion.
The behaviourist perspective is a scientific approach within psychology which claims that we are
blank slates at birth and all human behaviour is learnt.Behaviourism was developed by John Watson
in America in the early 1900s, (Cullis, T1999). Behaviourists focus on external conditions, learning
and experience ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He investigated his theory further by repeatedly pairing a neutral stimulus with an unconditional
stimulus, such as the ringing of a bell with the arrival of food; this eventually led to the bell
ringing alone causing the dog to salivate. Pavlov believed the bell was a conditional stimulus and
salivating to the bell was considered the conditional response.
B. F. Skinner was another influential psychologist who developed the theory of operant
conditioning. Unlike Pavlov, Skinner thought that behaviour was determined by the consequences
or rewards generated after the response, he called this operant conditioning, (Cherry, K 2005).
Skinner invented a device which contained a button which an animal could press in order to gain
food, water or some other form of reinforcement. Using this box he discovered two forms of
reinforcement, positive (which resulted in a favourable outcome), and negative (which resulted in
removal of unfavourable outcomes).
Cognitive psychology, as opposed to behavioural psychology, is the science of how we think.
Cognitive psychologists are concerned with the human brain and its functioning as an information
processor. Key areas of interest within cognitive psychology are mental processes such as memory,
perception, problem solving, language, creativity, attention span and thinking. Ulric Neisser
published Cognitive Psychology in 1967

Albert Camus Suffering
In Albert Camus The Stranger, the novel centers around the life of Meursault, a French Algerian,
who begins the novel attending his mother s funeral. Meursault does not express grief over his
mother s death, and treats the day after the funeral as just another day with no nostalgia for what
came before. As the novel progresses, Meursault continuously shows this lack of emotion and
connection to others in his life, making him a stranger to not only the reader but other characters in
the story. When Meursault befriends a neighbor of his, Raymond, and helps him with his cheating
Arab girlfriend, he unknowingly gets sucked into a conflict that will affect the rest of his life. A
victim of circumstance and choice, Meursault commits a murder, and... Show more content on

The Stranger acknowledges a different approach to life and reality, one with certainty and emphasis
on the individual. In Melissa Payne s Discussion of the Absurd in Albert CamusNovels, Essays
and Journals, she describes that Camus desires that man reads this novel and becomes
disorientated and divorced from any reality of which he knows. He must recognize that reality
means that life exists and death is approaching; Camus believes that these are the only truths, and
abstractions no longer exist (Payne 15). In the novel, Meursault knows that his death is
approaching in the form of his execution for the murder of the Arab. His crisis arises while
questioning his past actions, an exercise out of character with his belief that life is only about
present choices and the dawn of the next day. Meursault does not seek to absolve himself by
turning to God or asking for forgiveness, but instead, accepts the life he has chosen, freed by the
certainty that death was inevitable one way or

The Decisive Outcome Of The Napoleonic Wars
Thesis Statement:
This paper shall attempt to show the reasons for the need of this campaign and why this campaign
was important to the decisive outcome of the Napoleonic Wars [1787 1815].
Historical Background:
In 1803, the War of the Third Coalition began against France. In this coalition, the powers of the
United Kingdom, Austria, Russia, and Sweden went to war against France to reestablish order on
the old continent of Europe. In the War of the Third Coalition two major battles of the Napoleonic
wars were seen: Austerlitz and Trafalgar both were decisive in their tides of the war efforts. In
the end, Austria would be forced into a surrender, and the Confederation of the Rhine would occur.
This would leave the United Kingdom as one of the few states at war with France for the safety of
Europe. By 1808, Napoleon was marching on many of the old states (again): Austria, Prussia, and
Spain. With the French invasion of Spain and Portugal, the British were forced to send troops to
the Iberian Peninsula. Following a series of defeats and almost the complete loss of Lisbon, the
United Kingdom placed Arthur Wellesley (who would later become known as the Duke of
Wellington) in command of the Iberian Forces for the defense of Portugal, thereby, beginning the
great campaign in Spain, known only as, the Peninsula Campaign. The reason for the historical
significance of the Peninsula Campaign of 1808 to 1814 is thusly this: with growing number of
British troops in the underbelly of

Malcolm Knowles Adult Learning Theory
The chosen learner is Jake s mother, Jennifer. Her cognitive developmental level, according to
Piaget, is formal operations (Hemmelgarn, 2011). Accordingly, she has most likely advanced from
using logical reasoning with concrete examples (concrete operations) to abstract thinking. The
impact this might have on her learningis that she should be encouraged to be self directed and
autonomous as she educates herself about her son s diabetes. A review of the information obtained
can e reviewed and expanded upon with the educator. At this developmental stage, she is internally
motivated and may rely on previous experiences (Bastable, 2014). In conversations, the educator
should inquire as to her thoughts and feelings and offer guidance as needed. It will be important
for the educator to give Jennifer direction and support as she begins this process of learning about
her son s disease.
An appropriate theory for organizing Jennifer s learning would be Malcolm Knowles Adult
Learning Theory. The rationale that Malcolm Knowles Adult Learning Theory would be
appropriate for Jennifer is that the four principles of adult learning identified by Knowles are
congruent with the life situation she is now faced (Pappas, 2013). As an adult and a mother of a
child diagnosed with diabetes, she needs to be involved in the planning of her learning to make it
pertinent and meaning to her; her previous life and learning experiences need to be recognized; she
will be most interested in

Walmart Financial Ratios
Wal Mart Financial analysis If you glance at the financial ratios in the income statement you would
see that Walmart is operating at a high capacity. The company s profit margins although high are
declining at time passes by. After looking at Walmart s liquidity, the company is in a great position,
it can pay off its debts without much trouble. Liquidity ratios include current ratio and quick ratio.
If you look at the financial records you would see that current ratio has been on the rise since 2013.
The liquidity position that Walmart is currently in indicates that company has not enough money to
meet its current obligations. This means that Walmart is ideal with a company its size, if you look

The History Of The Aloha State
The Aloha State became the 50th state in 1959, but the history of Hawaii goes back centuries
earlier. Roughly 1,500 years ago, Polynesians from the Marquesas Islands first set foot on Hawaii
Island. With only the stars to guide them, they miraculously sailed over 2000 miles in canoes to
migrate to the Islands. 500 years later, settlers from Tahiti arrived, bringing their beliefs in gods
and demi gods and instituting a strict social hierarchy based on a kapu (taboo) system. Hawaiian
culture flourished over the centuries, giving rise to the art of the hula and the sport of surfing, but
land division conflicts between ruling chieftains were common. In 1778, Captain James Cook,
landed on Kauai at Waimea Bay. Naming the archipelago the Sandwich

whether a business is going to succeed or fail. In fact, the customer can fire everybody in the
company from the chairman (CEO) on down, and he can do it simply by spending his money
somewhere else. Literally everything we do, every concept perceived, every technology developed

Steroids In The Film Bigger, Stronger
In the documentary Bigger, Stronger, Faster it covers the choice to use, or not use steroids in
the lives of three brothers. The middle brother Chris describes his personal choices not to use
steroids, while his younger brother, Smelly, does use, and so does his old brother, Mad Dog.
Both of Chris s brothers are breaking the norm, and participating in both formal, and informal
deviance. Even though deviance occurs of both side of normality, his brothers are
overconforming. The oldest brother, Mad Dog, has such a strong sport ethic, he refuses to give
up on his dream of becoming a professional wrestler. Mad Dog has such a low self esteem that he
feels the only way to be successful, and gain respect is to make it as a wrestler. He was not
happy working for his father selling insurance, because it was not his dream. So he did whatever
he could to still maintain his life in the sports world, because it was so exhilarating he would do
anything to stay involved. Mad Dog used steroids, wrestled at any events he could, and
continuously sent in tapes to the WWE to audition for a role. Still none of this was enough to make
it big. At the end of the documentary he was shown moving to LA, where he thought that would be
the key to unlocking... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Smelly now the coach of a high school football team, uses steroids on an inconsistent basis to
help with his powerlifting hobby. He doesn t openly admit to having self esteem issues like his
oldest brother did, but judging by his constant need to lift more, and become better, and stronger
it is apparent he feels insecure in relation to something. Smelly also very much links his success
as a man on his relation to not only coaching, but lifting. His wife knew he used and since having
children became bothered by it, so they came to an agreement he would stop. His friends, and
coaches seem to think at some point he will return, because it is so much a part of who he is, that
he cannot give it

  • 2. John s Dress Code Thy word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path. Psalms 119:105 John had finally been hired as a security officer in a large bank where he felt that he had more prestige, simply because there was more money in his pockets each week! During his training period, John was given a book on the banks policies, one of which described the dress code; only white or blue shirts. clip on ties and navy pants. John went to work each night ecstatic and happy that he was moving up in the world, his only negative feelings about his job was the dress code! Although, he followed it obediently, John was old school and all of his ties were just that neckties not the clip on s that he was made to wear. Those clip on ties were so short for his ... If it wasn t for the intervention of another officer, John may have died that night. And, it was all because he had not been wearing a clip on tie, how foolish, how shortsighted John felt now! Had he worn a clip on tie, it would have come right off his neck and John would not have been choked at all. He finally saw the rational behind the banks police book, the dress code they had developed and the difference behind wearing a clip on tie verses his own neckties! How many times have we fallen short or battled, simply because we chose not to listen to God s Word? Perhaps, God was telling us to walk down a pathway that seemed uncertain in our eyes or perchance we were looking for an easier road to travel on! David is telling us... that by reading, knowing and trusting God s Word, we have a lamp light that provides daily directions to where God is leading us! • 3. Summary Of Joseph J. Ellis The Silence In Founding Brothers The Silence in Founding Brothers by Joseph J. Ellis is one of the most distracting chapters in the book. We know, and the founding brothers knew, that abolishing slavery was the right thing to do. In this chapter Ellis tries to explain that slavery was a bigger problem than just choosing right from wrong, and that ending slavery could divide the nation in half. This chapter describes the debate that took place where the founding brothers had the opportunity to argue about the most volatile topic facing the nation. The different personalities, ideologies, and compromises of the founding brothers shaped this ongoing debate. The main characters in The Silence were Benjamin Franklin who tried to abolish slavery; Thomas Jefferson who idealistically ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... America s original intentions (88) were open for interpretation. Thomas Jefferson s ideology concerning slavery was just as inspiring as his Revolutionary ideology against tyranny. In, Notes on the State of Virginia, Jefferson wrote that all slaves born after 1800 would eventually become free (90) .He believed that slavery should not expand into the Western territories. In the Norwest Ordinance he wrote there shall be neither slavery nor involuntary servitude in the said territory . Jefferson s revolutionary ideology was inspiring but not effective in solving the problems associated with slavery. It was Madison s cautious approach, or his inaction that prevailed. He appealed to the Northerners by acknowledging that slavery was immoral, but rejected proposing a federal law and believed that slavery should be dealt with at the state level, which appealed to the Southerners. Madison used political rhetoric to avoid the threats of secession of Southern states and kept the issue of slavery out of federal control. The house debate of March 23 shifted antislavery votes in Madison s favor prohibiting Congress from prohibiting slavery. So that Congress had no authority to interfere in the emancipation of slaves. So the founders succeeded in taking slavery off the table for political debate. The silence may have helped to keep things in balance while the North and South were becoming more divided on the issue and party politics were starting to form. The course of history may have changed if the founding fathers did not avoid the issue of slavery, or if Benjamin Franklin could have continued to make history, but history started making ... Quality And Safety Of Neonatal Care Quality and Safety in Neonatal Care in Nursing Practice Infants within the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) are one of the most vulnerable patient population in the hospital. The quality and safety of these patients are at top priority because of their immune systems have not fully developed yet causing them to be at the highest risk for infections. According to the Institute of Medicine (IOM, 2001), quality is defined as the degree to which health services for individuals and populations increase the likelihood of desired health outcomes and are consistent with current professional knowledge (Masters, 2005). The Quality and Safety Education for Nurses (QSEN) defines safety as, the minimization of risk of harm to patients and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Scope of Quality and Safety in NICU practice Patient s in the NICU are considered to be very tiny and fragile and immunocompromised due to their immature organ systems which can lead to many dangerous medical problems. Patricia W. Stone states maintaining a safe environment reflects a level of compassion and vigilance for patient welfare that is as important as any other aspect of competent health care (Stone, 2008). The patient s safety should always be a top concerned for a nurse because in a health care facility the purpose is to heal the patient and get them on the road to recovery. Nurses must learn from the errors of the past and use their knowledge to improve the quality of nursing to the patients to ensure if errors do happen again that the use of evidence based practices are put into place to improve their outcomes. According to Higher Quality of Care and Patient Safety, Registered Nurses (RNs) are instrumental in achieving multiple care goals, including promoting infant health and clinical stability, maintaining the integrity and cleanliness of central catheters, and preparing families for their role in infant care and successful transition it home (Lake, 2016). • 5. Different Ways Organisms Make Sounds Five different ways organisms make sounds would be by sonar (echolocation), drumming, clicking, beating, and singing. First, bats use sonar, also known as echolocation, to help them navigate through their surroundings and catch food. A sound wave is produced from the bat and returns as an echo. A bat s sonar helps them comprehend the size, location, and the direction the object is moving in by listening to the echoes that return. Second, termites, as well as many other animals and insects, use drumming as a way of communication. Termites bang their heads against the ground to warn other termites about danger or when they feel threatened. • 8. Individualism And Individualism Individualism has swept our current society. Teenagers like myself constantly are bombarded with television, radio, social media, and music that pushes a person to be unique and strive to be themselves. With this new agenda on the rise, comes a new thinking of self confidence. This thinking in return, has led to many teenagers making big decisions that impact them on a much larger scale than the surface level might show. The issue at hand has slowly began to create a culture in which many immature teenagers begin making mature decisions without thinking the consequences through. Over time, modern day media has turned these negative mistakes into a perception of positive results. With millions of young adults interacting with social media on a daily basis, this small issue could grow into having a major effect on society. Parents or guardians should decide whether teenagers get piercings or tattoos and society must put a stop to the idea of individualism in the minds of teenagers while getting back to the root of success; respect, standards, and work ethic. Many adolescents that have body markings are more likely to participate in high risk behavior and dangerous activities. According to a 58 question survey taken by Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Youth Risk Behavior Survey, Sean Carroll, a pediatrician and writer for American Academy of Pediatrics claims, Participants with tattoos and/or piercings were more likely to have engaged in risk taking behaviors and ... Since Schultz is the chairman of Starbucks, which means he is the top manager of the company, the conceptual skills are the most important for him to have. Mostly because conceptual skills help him see the organization as a whole. It helps the manager understand the relationship among the various subunits, and visualize how the organization fits into its broader environment. • 12. Taking a Look at Addison s Disease Autoimmune diseases are very common. There are over 23.5 million Americans who suffer from such diseases. Women of child bearing age and people with a family history of autoimmune diseases are more likely to be affected by these diseases. Addison s can also occur in dogs. This type of disease is one that is caused by the attack of healthy cells and tissue. The immune system can t tell the difference between the healthy tissue and the bad one and it attacks the normal one creating an autoimmune disorder. Autoimmune disorders can destroy body tissue, change the function of an organ, or cause abnormal growth in an organ. Parts of the body that are usually affected by these disorders are joints, muscles, blood vessels, endocrine glands, or other organs. There is a wide variety of autoimmune diseases. More than 80 kinds of diseases have been discovered. One common autoimmune disease is Addison s disease. Addison s occurs when your body creates antibodies which attach onto your adrenal cortex and destroys the cells which create cortisol, and aldosterone. This may not seem to be a big deal but, it is life threatening. Cortisol is a hormone which responds to stress, increases blood sugar, and suppresses the immune system. . • 13. How Does Roman Polanski Use Cinematic Techniques In The... How does Polanski convey the notion of man s inhumanity through cinematic techniques in The Pianist? Roman Polanski s The Pianist, released in 2002, shares a realistic encounter of man s inhumanity in World War II. Full of scenes that show the ruthless behaviour of the Nazis, Polanski presents the idea of man s inhumanity at the time of Hitler s rise to power in Germany through skilful cinematography. Although Polanski uses many different cinematic techniques, three of them are more strongly drawn upon than others: lighting, camera angles, and sound. The lighting in the film works around a realistic perception of style, reflecting the situation in World War II. The use of dull colours emphasises the depressive feeling of the characters. An example of this can be seen in an interior scene of an apartment of one of Szpilman s friends who is trying to help him. Bright, natural lighting is used to create a clear opposition between the world of the protagonist and the Polish people who are considered more privileged. This... In this paper, we first review some classical methods like AIC, BIC, Mallow s Cp, then discuss some regularization methods including Lasso, adaptive Lasso, elastic net, adaptive elastic net and group Lasso. We also consider the application of regularization methods in generalized linear model, Cox s model and time series analysis. At the end, we give suggestions for future work. 1 Classical Method The problem of variable selection is always the center of statistical research. Some classical methods like best subset selection, forward selection and backward elimination are proposed to handing massive data set. These methods are basically based on the idea of grid search. For example, the best subset selection searches the optimal model by all possible combination of the predictors. The forward selection find the best model by adding one predictor at each time, while the backward elimination finds the best model by removing one predictor at each time. Although these methods are powerful and accurate, they also cost a lot. For instance, suppose our model has 10 predictors, if we run the best subset selection to get the optimal model, we need to compare 1024 combinations of the predictors. It is unrealistic to perform such method in our real life because it time consuming. As a result, more efficient methods to solve the problem of variable selection are urgently desired. In ... The proposition of my paper is to propose the homosexuality as an interdisciplinary theorization of Caravaggio s artwork done in Rome. The purpose of this paper is to not dig deeper into the homosexuality of Caravaggio but to give a different representation and perspective of homosexuality. This paper does not discuss the actual sexuality of Caravaggio, but more so how we perceive norms that can differentiate with connotations to sexuality in Rome during his lifetime. Homosexualityis intertwined with norm systems that concerns sexuality. Caravaggio has some significant traits in his early art work done in Rome such as sensualism and the extensive use of charm. The sensual charisma has been extensively explained in religious terms and given a simpler cultural context by Maurizio Calvesi. There have been many debates where Caravaggio was a homosexual or not, based on the paintings he had done that had young men and young boys with seductive trances on their faces. The few examples of this would be The Cardsharps, Boy bitten by a lizard, The Lute Player, Bacco, the Musicans, Boy with a Basket of Fruit, St John the Baptist. Also, to contribute to the assumption that Caravaggio was a homosexual was the private paintings he has done which include a naked Pluto, Jupiter, and Neptune, in order to symbolize a perfect human in an inhumane world. Since the beginning of the establishment of the United State; people have wanted the freedom of choice. Immigrants long for it, and Americans have the ability to carry it out. We first see freedom of choice in I Hear America Singing by Walt Whitman. The poem sates, The shoemaker singing as he sits in his bench, the hatter singing as he stands, the woodcutter s song (12). The following excerpt displays the freedom of choice in the lower class, or the blue collar jobs. Many view Wall Street in a negative light because they seem to be living in an elite exclusive parallel world, where they are untouched by the economic disasters they cause. In some way they really are living in a parallel world, in the sense that Wall Street has its own culture that is separate from other surrounding cultures. In Biographies of Hegemony author Karen Ho explores this sub culture especially focusing on their recruitment methodology. One of the parts of their culture is the word smart which means something different to them. Smartness implies that recruits standardize themselves and Investment Bankscustomize themselves in order to be impressive to each other and because Wall Street s business relies on impressiveness. The recruits have to tailor themselves to find into a box, model of the ideal candidate , that Investment Banks are looking for. Walt Whitman was a brilliant writer of his time, a writer that created a voice for the masses to no longer be a mass, but an individual. He was truly a pioneer of his generation, a revolutionary in thought, and this is not his quote. Though Ginsberg s origins were Jewish, he would convert to a Buddhist belief system which would subsume into his work and themes. Walt Whitman was a humanist, part of the transition between transcendentalism and realism that played a major role in the writing of that generation. When Whitman figures Leaves of Grass as the product of a harmonious identity between the human body, human society, and the natural environment, a realm distinguished by an intense focus on the material existence of the human body, and a radical freedom consisting in an unfettered identification of the body with its material environment (Nineteenth Century Literature Criticism). The belief of letting go of material value and place a value in self discovery. In their respective time periods both Ginsberg and Whitman held the same purpose in their poetic compositions. Due to the lack of rain and fresh water the state has began, with no regulation, pumping irreplaceable groundwater to aid the drought. Fracking is also referred as hydraulic fracturing in which rock is fractured by a pressurized liquid to further create cracks and openings underground to extract more free flowing components such as natural gas, petroleum, and brine. Millions of frac jobs have been performed on oil and gas wells worldwide to further extract more shale gas, tight gas, tight oil and coral seam gas. This highly controversial issue of greed and depletion of deeply bounded fossil fuels is extremely important. The argumentative basis of this matter is between those whom benefit and have more readily available accessible hydrocarbons and the people who are aware of the potential hazardous environmental effects. Hydraulic fracturing greatly threatens the risk of ground and surface water contamination, air pollution, noise pollution, and the consequential triggering of earth quakes and hazardous long term effects that are unknown. This is highly controversial considering the industry that is already in power of fossil fuel extraction is highly powerful and ran by both government powers and mass corporate powers with much control on those who regulate. I am on the opposing side of the fossil greedy powerful organizations who push for fracking and believe that there are surely alternative solutions. I am personally interested in the issue of fracking because I know how important and vital clean ground and surface water are for human survival and also because I am terrified of the technology mankind has came to power over that in which threatens and potentially could trigger disasters that we have no control over such as earthquakes and sinking of the land. Consequently, the role of organisation as service provider helped tackle drinking water scarcity in the State, placating the impatient politicians. The scientific survey by organisation helped in greater success of DWs in terms of GW availability. However, it became imperative for organisations to modify their structure to suit the new roles, new attitudes and approaches in its functioning. GSDA, too, while performing the ... His writings, distinct from other renaissance authors of the epoch, make emphasis on his personal views and his opinions on the political matters taking place in Florence, Italy. Further discussed in the text are two of Machiavelli s most renowned works, The Prince and the Discourses on Livy. Both books comprehend Machiavelli s understandings of politics and explicit analysis on the various methods of governments with respect to principalities and republics. He argues that it if the natural prince possesses such extreme sagacity, he will always maintain himself in the state unless deprived by a superior force. Nonetheless, if the natural prince has reasons enough to irritate his subjects and causes himself to be hated, people will willingly trade him for another ruler in the hopes that the new ruler will be better than the present one. Machiavelli says that once the prince is replaced, the state is no longer to be considered a hereditary principality but be classified as a mixed principality. As Machiavelli had at first noted, new and mixed principalities are indeed much more difficult to maintain. For it is in new and mixed principalities that difficulties start to present themselves. Machiavelli states that mutations to form mixed principalities, in which men change their rulers gladly in the belief that they will better themselves by the change, arise from a natural difficulty. Unfortunately for the people, problems for Machiavelli do not stop here, for he argues that it is an infinite number of other wrongs that follow in the train of new conquests. When the new prince takes over another prince s domain, he finds himself in a delicate situation with regard to the people who put him in power and with those whom he injured by seizing that principality. He explains that the new prince has for enemies all those whom he has injured by seizing that principality; and at the same time he ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The strengths and limitations of each perspective will be discussed along with an evaluation of their applications to contemporary issues in psychology. Finally there will be an analysis of the similarities and differences between each perspective and a conclusion. The behaviourist perspective is a scientific approach within psychology which claims that we are blank slates at birth and all human behaviour is learnt.Behaviourism was developed by John Watson in America in the early 1900s, (Cullis, T1999). He investigated his theory further by repeatedly pairing a neutral stimulus with an unconditional stimulus, such as the ringing of a bell with the arrival of food; this eventually led to the bell ringing alone causing the dog to salivate. Pavlov believed the bell was a conditional stimulus and salivating to the bell was considered the conditional response. B. F. Skinner was another influential psychologist who developed the theory of operant conditioning. Unlike Pavlov, Skinner thought that behaviour was determined by the consequences or rewards generated after the response, he called this operant conditioning, (Cherry, K 2005). Skinner invented a device which contained a button which an animal could press in order to gain food, water or some other form of reinforcement. Using this box he discovered two forms of reinforcement, positive (which resulted in a favourable outcome), and negative (which resulted in removal of unfavourable outcomes). Cognitive psychology, as opposed to behavioural psychology, is the science of how we think. Cognitive psychologists are concerned with the human brain and its functioning as an information processor. Key areas of interest within cognitive psychology are mental processes such as memory, perception, problem solving, language, creativity, attention span and thinking. The Stranger acknowledges a different approach to life and reality, one with certainty and emphasis on the individual. In Melissa Payne s Discussion of the Absurd in Albert CamusNovels, Essays and Journals, she describes that Camus desires that man reads this novel and becomes disorientated and divorced from any reality of which he knows. He must recognize that reality means that life exists and death is approaching; Camus believes that these are the only truths, and abstractions no longer exist (Payne 15). In the novel, Meursault knows that his death is approaching in the form of his execution for the murder of the Arab. His crisis arises while questioning his past actions, an exercise out of character with his belief that life is only about present choices and the dawn of the next day. Meursault does not seek to absolve himself by turning to God or asking for forgiveness, but instead, accepts the life he has chosen, freed by the certainty that death was inevitable one way or ... • 42. The Decisive Outcome Of The Napoleonic Wars Thesis Statement: This paper shall attempt to show the reasons for the need of this campaign and why this campaign was important to the decisive outcome of the Napoleonic Wars [1787 1815]. Historical Background: In 1803, the War of the Third Coalition began against France. In this coalition, the powers of the United Kingdom, Austria, Russia, and Sweden went to war against France to reestablish order on the old continent of Europe. In the War of the Third Coalition two major battles of the Napoleonic wars were seen: Austerlitz and Trafalgar both were decisive in their tides of the war efforts. In the end, Austria would be forced into a surrender, and the Confederation of the Rhine would occur. This would leave the United Kingdom as one of the few states at war with France for the safety of Europe. By 1808, Napoleon was marching on many of the old states (again): Austria, Prussia, and Spain. With the French invasion of Spain and Portugal, the British were forced to send troops to the Iberian Peninsula. Following a series of defeats and almost the complete loss of Lisbon, the United Kingdom placed Arthur Wellesley (who would later become known as the Duke of Wellington) in command of the Iberian Forces for the defense of Portugal, thereby, beginning the great campaign in Spain, known only as, the Peninsula Campaign. The reason for the historical significance of the Peninsula Campaign of 1808 to 1814 is thusly this: with growing number of British troops in the underbelly of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Accordingly, she has most likely advanced from using logical reasoning with concrete examples (concrete operations) to abstract thinking. The impact this might have on her learningis that she should be encouraged to be self directed and autonomous as she educates herself about her son s diabetes. A review of the information obtained can e reviewed and expanded upon with the educator. At this developmental stage, she is internally motivated and may rely on previous experiences (Bastable, 2014). In conversations, the educator should inquire as to her thoughts and feelings and offer guidance as needed. It will be important for the educator to give Jennifer direction and support as she begins this process of learning about her son s disease. An appropriate theory for organizing Jennifer s learning would be Malcolm Knowles Adult Learning Theory. The rationale that Malcolm Knowles Adult Learning Theory would be appropriate for Jennifer is that the four principles of adult learning identified by Knowles are congruent with the life situation she is now faced (Pappas, 2013). As an adult and a mother of a child diagnosed with diabetes, she needs to be involved in the planning of her learning to make it pertinent and meaning to her; her previous life and learning experiences need to be recognized; she will be most interested in ...
