Narrative Essay On Emergency Medical Technician
My heart was going to fly out of my chest. To pass my emergency medical technician (EMT)
program, I need to complete two clinical s while filling out patient care reports. I knew my
procedures, but would I miss a step? I knew my terminology, but would I mix them up? Would I
just be in everyone s way? I studied nonstop, aced my test, and ran through every skills lab I
could. Yet, I did not feel prepared. I was going to play a part in what happens to the patient. But I
was ecstatic to test my ability.
My nerves were quickly forgotten as I walked to the emergency entrance with large red letters
spelling EMERGENCY. I expected a large entrance considering that they are working to create a
level one trauma center. As I walked through the single sliding glass door, I recognized two of the
four workers at the front desk running the prehospital stroke test. One lady, ... Show more content

After introducing ourselves, Rachel told me she was going to have me do any procedure that I
was qualified for. I began to panic as I attempted to recall all the skills my instructors
demonstrated. Grabbing the iPad, we began to walk to the first room. The monitor lit the dark
room as we pulled the curtain to the side. The man I walked in earlier laid motionless with labored
breathing. After reading his chart, not only was he a type one diabetic, he had gone on a four day
meth binge and could not remember the last time he ate. Due to him not eating, he was
experiencing an insulin shock. Can you get the vital signs while I find the glucometer Rachel
asked as she rushed out the door. I poked at the monitor to find the screen I needed. Heart rate,
blood oxygen saturation levels (SpO2), and blood pressure popped up. After the monitor read 112,
I knew he was experiencing tachycardia, a sign of hyperglycemia. Rachel returned with a
glucometer three times the size of the ones from my

Hybrid Vehicle Disadvantages
The pros and cons of Hybrid/Alternative Fueled Vehicles:
There are many factors to consider when purchasing a Hybrid or Alternative Fueled Vehicle. Most
times when searching for a vehicle, consumers tend to search for amenities to help cut cost. When
considering alternative fueled vehicles, consumers have to keep in mind that there are several
types of hybrid vehicles with different operating abilities to choose from to satisfy the needs of the
consumers. With hybrids, there are three types which are hybrid electric vehicles, plug in hybrid
electric vehicles and all electric vehicles. Since they all operate differently, it is important to be
informed to ensure the consumer is happy and satisfied with their investment.
Hybrid Electric Vehicles consist of gasoline engines, electric motors and use advanced
technology to operate. One of the technologies used is a regenerative braking, which recaptures
energy that is lost during coasting or braking. The use of the forward wheels is what turns the
motor which generates electricity and assist to slow the vehicle. There is also a normal hydraulic
braking system that stops the vehicle when the regenerative system isn t sufficient. Another
technology used is the Electric Motor Drive/Assist which allows the electric motor to provide
power and assist the engine in accelerating, passing and hill climbing. It also allows a smaller,
more efficient engine to be used. The electric motor in hybrids drives the vehicle at low speeds,

Statistics And Crime Statistics On Crime
Official crime statistics refer to statistical data which are compiled by official agencies such as
the police and courts, and are published by the state. National statistics about crime in England
and Wales have been collected and published by the Home Office annually since 1857. These
figures are compiled by putting together the offences recorded by the police in each of the forty
three police areas in England and Wales. The statistics contained in these volumes are of great
significance, not only for those who study crimeor work in the criminal justice system, but also for
politicians, the mass media and the general public, for whom these are the major source of
authorized information about the extent and trends in crime. These figures give an indication
of whether crime is increasing or decreasing and allow geographical areas to be compared, they
also give a good indication of police workload. However, official statistics on crime arguably
have serious deficiencies. Whether official crime statistics are an accurate measure of the extent
and seriousness of crime can be questioned for a number of reasons, which will be discussed in
the following essay. Alternative methods of measuring crime such as self report studies and victim
surveys, which may be a more accurate measure of the extent and seriousness of crime will also be
discussed.
A crucial factor that can affect the recorded level of crime is the extent to which members of the
public are prepared to report

Anabolic Steroid Use in Sports Summary
Anabolic Steroid use in Sports The competitive drive to win at all cost is fierce among athletes.
Winning at all cost often includes using one of many performance enhancing drugs such as anabolic
steroids. Many athletes use performance enhancing drugs, like steroids, to achieve higher goals and
set higher records than other drug free successful athletes. Although athletes are performing at
higher levels when using such drugs, what is the cost? Finally anabolic steroids should remain
banned from sports because their use results in many harmful side effects; because their use violates
sports regulations, and because their use can cause death. Anabolic steroids should remain banned
from sports because of the many harmful... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Another reason is the potential side effect caused by the use of anabolic steroids. Since the use
of steroids has become a trend among athletes, the number of deaths among them has risen. A lot
of these deaths are due to suicides and violent behavior as a result of the effect of these anabolic
androgenic steroids on mood. A number of recent, well publicized deaths of American football
players have drawn attention to the potential dangers of sports supplements and the raised
important public health concerns about the unrestricted availability of these products that are
exempt from U. S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) regulation (Haller, 2002). Performance
enhancing drugs are not only dangerous and damaging; they are potentially deadly. Between
1985 and 1995, at least 121 US athletes collapsed and died during or directly after a training
session or game; most often because they had hypertrophic cardiomyopathy or heart
malformations (Maron, 1996). Most of the athletes that have collapsed and died during or directly
after training session or game tested positive for some type of performance enhancing drug. From
case reports, the incidence of life threatening effects appears to be low, but serious adverse effects
may be under recognized or under reported. Data from animal studies seem to support this
possibility. One study found that exposing male

Research Paper On 1930s Music
Research Paper: The 1930s
When the Great Depression hit its lowest point, approximately 15 million Americans were
unemployed and nearly half of the nation s banks failed says, History.com. From the music that
people listened to, to the clothing they wore, the people of the 1930s were forced to change their
lifestyle.
The way people lived changed dramatically during the 1930s due to the Great Depression. Many
new musicians were founded during this era. There was a huge switch in the music industry and
the genres that existed. For example, two of many new genres were introduced throughout the
30s. Hillbilly folk and Western. The center of this new western music was Texas, where taverns
with new jukeboxes or stages entertained patrons. Musicians dressed as cowboys became
legendary during this decade. By the end of this generation, western music became a lot more
danceable and rowdy (Berg). Hillbilly folk first originated from the Appalachian Mountains and
the Southeast. A few folk musicians that prospered this genre were, the Carter Family and the
Smoky Mountain Boys. Hillbilly music benefited especially from radio programming like the
National Barn Dance and the Grand Ole Opry. As mentioned in 1930s: Music . Although there
were many more genres, those two are the ones that became very popular over the course of the
30s. Not only did music provide a distraction, but it also supplied entertainment.

Performance Of Sports And Performance Enhancing Drugs
Performance Enhancers in Elite Sports Performance enhancing drugs are as old as sports
themselves. Even the ancient athlete that competed in some of the first Olympic Games were
know to use substances to boost their performance. It is on record that Olympian Thomas Hicks
won the marathon after receiving an injection of strychnine during the race in the third Olympiad .
(Savulescu, 1) It wasn t until the 70 s that athletes began being tested for performance enhancing
drugs and they became banned. Even then college athletes weren t tested. Only a select few
Olympians and professional athletes were tested. The International Amateur Athletic Federation
projects that only 10% 15% of athletes are tested at all in major competition. (Savulescu, 5) Part
of this was due to the fact that the technology to test for these substances was relatively new and
unavailable. But the main reason performance enhancing drugs are illegal for athletic use is
because they are seen as an unfair advantage for the athletes that use them and of course because
of the health risks involved with using some of these drugs in dose that wouldn t be prescribed by
a physician. These reasons are either untrue or can be eliminated with their legalization. Either way,
performance enhancing drugs should be allowed at the elite levels of competition such as
profession sports and the Olympics. The best way for our government has found to control a
substance and make it safer is through legalization and regulation.

Analysis Of Thomas Alva Edison s Life
Thomas Alva Edison was born February 11, 1847, in Milan Ohio. He was the seventh and last
child born to Samuel Edison Jr. and Nancy Elliot Edison. He would be one of the four to survive to
adulthood[1].
During the Civil War, Edison learned a lot about the emerging technology of telegraphy. He
traveled around the country doing lots of work in this field. Edison began to develop serious
hearing loss early in life, in which many believed came from a serious case of scarlet fever or
some type of blow to the head1. With the development of auditory signals for the telegraph,
Edison knew he was at a disadvantage because of his fading hearing, and he began to work on
inventing devices that would help make life a little easier for him despite his deafness. One of
these devices consisted of a printer that would convert electrical signals to letters. Edison realized
that he had a love for inventions, so much so, that he decided to quit telegraphy in 1869, to pursue
the life of a fulltime inventor1.
After Thomas Edison left the field of telegraphy, he began to develop his career as an independent
entrepreneur. By doing this, he managed to form lots of partnerships that would help him in his
upcoming career as an inventor. Edison had his eyes on the prize because he developed his
products only for the highest bidders. Often, that was Western Union Telegraph Company, or one of
its competitors[2].
During Edison s life here on earth, he acquired a total of 1,093 United States patents for

Contemporary Political Theory Should We Have On...
Policy makers need a certain measure of agreement on what is just and unjust (Rawls, 1999: 6) to
coordinate their policies efficiently, meet expectations and grant stability in society. Answering
whether policy makers should listen to a statement like this, we will explore what impact
contemporary political theory should have on policy makers and examine the nature of their
relationship.
Due to its limited scope, this essay cannot elucidate whether policy makers should listen to natural
scientists or economists, comparatively. In what follows I shall focus entirely on Rawls s A Theory
of Justice (TJ) and Nozick s Anarchy, State, and Utopia (ASU). I furthermore assume that political
theorists and policy makers are two separate parties and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Rawls convincingly illuminates that individual policy makers can critically reflect upon their self
interest by internally assuming impartiality (Rawls, 1999: 119 120). This intuitive method for
understanding the role of justice (Campbell, 1988: 82) serves as a framework for unbiased policy
making. Despite various political attitudes, institutions rest on an underlying consent about what is
(un)just. In this sense, the OP makes individuals see policy goals from distance (Rawls, 1999: 19).
Beyond that, by listening to political theory, policy makers learn to evaluate how we speak about
justice (see Campbell, 1988: 9). Intuitive societal debates about who deserves what should be heard
so that policy makers are not only informed by lobbyists. Even if parliament does not discuss
political theories, they translate into culture and beliefs. Listening could make policy makers reflect
upon their own normative grounds, becoming aware of the principles they should act

Amazon, Google and Microsoft are providing services following the logic of computational
infrastructure cloud computing, with Amazon the pioneer in providing and marketing
infrastructure of this kind. The academic community has also shown interest in cloud computing,
and some work has been directed to improvements in aspects of performance, security, usability,

/introduction to hadoop/ The MapReduce system handles the processing through a master
process whose function is to orchestrate the processing, manage the process of grouping records
and distribute the blocks in a balanced manner. The MapReduce was implemented using C + +
and has interfaces to Java and Python. The MapReduce was developed by Google but there are
some open source implementations, among which stands out the Hadoop (Hadoop 2010). The
Hadoop is a framework of free code in Java to run applications that manipulate large amounts of
data in distributed environments. The Hadoop is composed by the file system HDFS (Hadoop
Distributed File System) and a parallel execution environment. Within this environment, or better,
the Hadoop framework, several subprojects can be found, such as the implementation of
MapReduce, the distributed data management system called HBase, data flow language r and
structure for parallel execution called Pig. The main characteristics of the Hadoop are:
distributed storage systems, file partitioned into large blocks is distributed on the nodes of the
system, blocks replicated to handle hardware failure and a location for temporary data. Unlike
other approaches to distributed file systems, the storage and processing of HDFS is done at each
node of the system. Thus, using the Hadoop or MapReduce is relatively easy for a computer
project working with

Introduction
Allopathy
1.Allopathic medicine is an expression commonly used by homeopaths and proponents of other
forms of alternative medicine to refer to mainstream medical use of pharmacologically active
agents or physical interventions to treat or suppress symptoms or pathophysiologic processes of
diseases or conditions. The expression was coined in 1810 by the creator of homeopathy, Samuel
Hahnemann (1755 1843). In such circles, the expression allopathic medicine is still used to refer to
the broad category of medical practice that is sometimes called Western medicine, biomedicine,
evidence based medicine, or modern medicine (see the article on scientific medicine).

Ayurveda significantly developed during the Vedic period and later some of the non Vedic systems
such as Buddhismand Jainism also are incorporated in the system. Balance is emphasized, and
suppressing natural urges is considered unhealthy and claimed to lead to illness. Ayurveda names
three elemental substances, the doshas (called Vata, Pitta and Kapha), and states that a balance of
the doshas results in health, while imbalance results in disease. Ayurveda has eight canonical

Financial Assets Promising A Risk Free Payoff
Banks hold financial assets promising a risk free payoff equal to $ iskfreeassets$, with households
as their counterpart for this financial position. Banks also hold $Facevalue$ government bonds.
Each government bond has a face value equal to one, payable at the end of the second period. The
government, however, may default on its debt, so the payoff may be lower than one. Let
$govtpayoff(Y) leq 1$ be the actual payoff of one government bond, where $Y$ is the aggregate
output the payoff, $govtpayoff(Y)$, will be determined below. One key feature of the mechanism
that we describe is that banks loans are distorted by the overhang of the existing bank liabilities. To

Let $sigma$ be the standard deviation of $ln(idiosyncraticshock)$. Each bank receives net of
taxes output, $(1 axrate)y$, in return of its loans.footnote{ To focus on the main mechanism, we
lump the financial and production sectors together. The mechanism, however, does not depend
on this assumption and would be at work even if firms were modeled separately, banks received
only a share of the output produced, and firms distributed the rest to households as dividends.} It
also receives the payoff, $assetpayoff(Y)$, of its financial assets and government bonds. If the
sum of the two is less than the face value of its liabilities, i.e., $(1 axrate)y+assetpayoff(Y)
facevalue$, then the bank defaults, repays $(1 axrate)y+assetpayoff(Y)$ to the creditors, and does
not distribute any dividend. Otherwise, the bank repays the entire face value of its liabilities,
$facevalue$, to the creditors and distributes the rest, $(1 axrate)y+assetpayoff(Y) facevalue$, as
dividends. We restrict attention to equilibria where $facevalue assetpayoff(Y)$, so that there is a
positive probability that banks default. Notice that all decisions are made before the realization of

d) D Leon purchases material on 30 day terms, meaning that it is supposed to pay for purchase
within 30 days of receipt. Judging from its 2005 balance sheet, do you think D Leon pays suppliers
on time? Explain. If not, what problems might this lead to?
The Company records indicate that they did not pay their suppliers on time. Also the accounts
payable balance swelled by 260% from yester annum, however the sales managed to pull up only
76%. The company is jeopardizing its relationship with the suppliers, this can lead the suppliers to
cut off the company and put it into bankruptcy against the Company if the company continues with

e) D Leon spends money for labor, materials, and fixed assets (depreciation) to make products, and
still more money to sell those products. Then, it makes sales that result is receivables, which
eventually result in cash inflows. Does it appear that D Leon s sales price exceeds its cost per unit
sold? How does this affect the cash balance?

false accusation is what sends him to Camp Green Lake, a juvenile detention camp. Stanley and the

mentions a lot of backstory on a broad period of time. He also uses characters to prove his point.
Families from three generations reunite in the end, the curse is broken. Stanley, the main
character, grows throughout his time at the camp. Stanley appears to be the hero of the book,
but he isn t exactly the hero type. When we are introduced to him he seems to be a teenager with
no interest or commitment to any interests in life. Stanley then enters camp where he is pushed
around and does not speak up for himself. Stanley wakes up everyday believing his life is cursed
and that only failure awaits him. Sachar, however, shows us the changes that Stanley goes
through while he is at camp. When the other boys give him the nickname, Caveman , he feels
like he has a place at camp and this boosts his confidence. He begins talking and laughing with the
other boys more. Later, he begins talking to Zero, a quiet boy who rarely speaks. They become
inseparable friends and together they shut Camp Green Lake. They are both outsiders and the

turnovers because of his 14 interceptions and losing eight fumbles. In comparison, Winston did the
worst during his last season with the Seminoles as among the 39 FBS quarterbacks that passed
over 3,000 yards and still managed to take the team to the playoffs. As a quarterback, Winston
counted on his teammates like returning running back Dalvin Cook to assist in making great plays
and wins for the football team all the way to the playoffs. The football season begins with the

Symptoms of Narcissism in Eve Using Paradise Lost
Symptoms of Narcissism in Eve I. Introduction A. The allusion to pagan fable that most haunts
views of Milton s Eve is her Narcissus like behavior when, fresh from her Creator s hand, she
pauses at the verge of the mirror lake attracted by her own reflection and has to be called twice:
first by God, who leads her to Adam, and then, as she starts back toward the softer beauty of the
face in the lake, by Adam himself. (McColley 63). B. Eve s scene in which she observes herself at
the pool can be seen as a biblical form of the myth of Narcissus. C. I will argue, first, that Eve s
scene alludes to Ovid s myth of Narcissus. Second I dispute interpretations that view Eve s actions
as a narcissistic impulse,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Scholars have attempted to come up with an answer which explains Eve s Narcissus like
tendencies. Some scholars feel that Eve s narcissism is an innocent stage of human development
since she quickly outgrows it. (McColley 63). One scholar feels that There is a certain beauty in
Eve s narcissism because it is the linking of above and below. (Norford 10, 14). Others, like
Jonathan Collett, gather the idea that Eve s scene at the pool is simply a biblical form of the
Narcissus myth. The myth of Narcissus, written by Ovid, is the tale of a hero whose self love
gradually brought him to his death. Although Eve s memorization of herself at the pool did not
ultimately take her life, there are many similarities which tie Eve s scene at the pool and the myth
of Narcissus together. Mr. Collett writes, This situation by the pool echoes Ovid s tale of
Narcissus and attributes to Eve a native vanity that issues in the Fall, sometimes finding additional
sinister implications in periodic resemblances between the creation of Eve and the birth of Sin.
(Collett 88). Throughout his article, Collett notes on similarities found not only between Narcissus
and Eve, but also between the birth of Eve and the birth of Sin. One similarity can be found in the
myth of Narcissus. Echo, a local nymph, crosses paths with Narcissus, and at first glance, notices
his beauty and falls in

Firstly, the use of empathy to build relationships with employees and clients. Rapport building is
also supported with verbal and non verbal communication that comes to the fore when translations

the only way this business can derive an income to pay employees who in turn work to supply the

Analysis Of The Other Side Of The Sky By Farah Ahmedi
Farah Ahmedi was a girl who was desperate to escape her war torn country of Afghanistan by
crossing the border into Pakistan. Annie Johnson was a fierce woman who wanted to support
her family by starting an intricate business that cooks meals for factory workers. The next
mission missionary was Theodore Boone who was a 13 year old boy who wanted to prevent a

The Other Side of The Sky, elaborates on this statement by describing Farah Ahmedi s life, the
author states, Their only hope was to escape to Pakistan (para. 3). This quote explains that Farah
Ahmedi did not want to leave the country out of her own choice, it was a necessary decision. Her
country was war torn, so she and her mom had no choice. After the very difficult and treacherous
journey to cross the border through the mountains on the border, and four years in Pakistan, Farah

Charlotte From Now, Voyager Directed By Irving Rapper
Imagine you live in a mansion, your own butler, and maid, everything you could dream of. Would
you be happy? I most certainly would be. There is only one issue with the house, your mother is
controlling and does not want you to be yourself. She decides what you do, wear, say. What about
now? You still happy living there? Charlotte from Now, Voyager directed by Irving Rapper is not
happy with her house because of her mother, Mrs. Vale. The mansion that Charlotte and Mrs. Vale
live in is not only not home like, but also strict and demanding. The house has an important
significance to the film.
During the film, there is not one thing out of place in the house. One of the first lines in the film is

Vale decided what happens in her house. When Charlotte is taking DoctorJaquith around the
house, they walk up the stairs and she tells him the stairs squeak because when she was 17, she
came home late and her mother noticed from the stairs and since then she will not fix the stairs
so she knows when Charlotte tries to come home late or leaves. This shows Mrs. Vale is strict
and would like to be able to hear her child at night if she tries to leave or come home late. Once
Charlotte and the Doctor get into her room, she starts to talk to him about her mother and tells
him a story about when they were on a ship and she was engaged to the sailor and her mother
tries to make her feel ugly by saying why you not wearing your glasses? You will never get
another pair of eyes. Making her put her glasses on symbolizes that if you have glasses on, you
are ugly and worthless which is what she is trying to get Charlotte to feel. After she goes away to
get help and return from the cruise, Charlotte goes upstairs to her mother s room and Mrs. Vale
tells her that she invited people over and tells her I ll wear my white lace gown. Wear your black
and white foulard. Charlotte tries to tell her mother she lost over twenty five pounds and it will
not fit her but her mother tells her that she has had Miss Till here and took it in. She is trying to
tell Charlotte that she decides what she wears and she has no say in it but Charlotte goes behind
her mother s back and wears what she wants. When Charlotte tries to talk to her mother about
independence and how she has never had any with her, her mother tells her to buy what you
want, to wear what you choose, I make the decisions here, Charlotte. Then tells her that she
should wear her glasses so it s less of a shock to people and because of her illness she lost her hair
and she is letting it grow out as quick as she can. This is Mrs. Vale deciding what Charlotte does

When the quality throughput of the component is less than 95%, the demand is increased. Quality
measures are in place to alert the supplier when the throughput is less than 95% as desired but
additional demands with reduced quality requirements keep the supplier from delivering. Original
plans called for specific manufactured items for each component yet the supplier elected to use a
less expensive alternative which isn t meeting quality requirements.
To help mitigate the supplier risks, determine the supplier s attitude to safety, quality, and
environmental aspects to delivering components. Another treatment would be to appoint an onsite
supplier liaison manager responsible for signing off on any supplier and/or design changes. It
would also be helpful to have back to back contracts with sub contractors. IV.Fault Tree Two

In the second fault tree I illustrated the impact of labor on the delivery of the 787 Dreamliner. The
labor to assemble the airplane components at the Boeing facility in Everett is critical to ensure the
on time delivery of the airplane. The union labor to assemble the Dreamliner is under contract
review, the contract will expire two months prior to the first assembly. The expiration of the
machinist contract and failure to arrive at a new mutually acceptable contract would lead to a
possible strike. Discussion between the labor union and the company would be required to mediate

Review of Culture Jam by Kalle Lasn
The advertising culture is having a devastating effect on our agendas of
becoming the media s ideal of perfection, and behind all of this self sacrifice the
media and corporations are the ones succeeding, not us. In Culture Jam, by Kale
Lasn, the founder of Adbusters magazine, he attempts to show the reader what our
mass media has been doing subliminally.
When the average American thinks of consumerism, we believe it is the promotion
of the consumer s interests. What Lasn believes is that we re being told what our
interests are and to buy into those false interests. We ve become disconnected with
ourselves and our own interests to fit those that our corporations have designed for
us. He uses an example of taking your ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Have we lost all self in media?
When I first picked this book up for class, I decided it would be a
great read. Something that would challenge my concrete thoughts and turn them into
better ideas. It has, to an extent. I could relate to almost each and every example
Lasn has discussed, but I saw no conclusion at any point. Normally when we, as
thoughtful humans, are so adiment about a topic, we like to clarify a quick solution,
even if we don t fully discuss the outcome or dive into detail. He offered this
wonderful insight into the making of our modern day psyches, yet left me hanging for
a solution. Almost like the entire subject where he on how the television media

While I believe that we have become disassociated with our true

technology is a negative force. Being able to have predicted forecasts and knowing
if we re having a war outside of our homes is a vital part of surviving in our world
currently, and without those advances, we could easily perish. What my solution would be to

learns to live through her father and her husband s denouncing cruelty and continues to be a sweet

strength, her ability to deal with hardships, and her instinct to keep fighting. Her undeniable
strength comes with protecting those she loves. She teaches herself to take all that is forced upon
her because she has never known the feeling of living an easy life. Celie has had to fight for her
happiness, alone, from her younger years into adulthood. Even though this character was in
constant torment, she continued to adapt to her surroundings and did what she could to keep those

1.Introduction. Halogen Bonding, Xb, Is The Product Of
1.Introduction
Halogen bonding, XB, is the product of a non covalent interaction between a halogen X and a
negative site B (e.g., Lewis base). The halogen, X, is usually part of an R X molecule where R
can be another halogen, an organic or an inorganic electron donating group. Halogen bonding (XB)
is in some ways analogous to hydrogen bonding (HB). In the latter, a hydrogen atom is shared
between an atom, group or molecule that donates and another that accepts it.[1 3] In halogen
bonding, it is a halogen atom X that is shared between a donor R and an acceptor Y. Thus the two
forms of interaction can be illustrated by:
HB : R_H...Y
XB : R_X...Y
Because of their high electronegativity; halogen atoms in halo organics are classically ... Show more

More recent studies of the halogen bond in the solid state have been conferred by both Pennington
et al and Laurence et al. [19 21]
The seventies and the eighties of the last century witnessed the further extension of the
experimental inspections by introducing infrared spectroscopy of Lewis base dihalogen
complexes isolated in solid inert gas matrices at temperatures low enough to cease reaction, even
when the dihalogen was ClF or F2. Lattice effects in cryogenic matrices are lesser than those
present in Hassel s crystals however, they are not fully absent. [22 37]
The introduction of supersonic expansion techniques endorsed studying the rotational spectra of
HF...ClF12 and HF...Cl2 13 in active isolation via molecular beam electric resonance spectroscopy.
Klemperer et al referred to such complexes as anti hydrogen bonded, with HF acting as a Lewis
base. The advantage of the supersonic

Being Well Rounded Research Paper
The idea that being a well rounded person has surfaced in many areas of life, including college
resumes and job related fields. Those who are advanced enough to be considered well rounded
are those that are in high demand for jobs around the globe. Many would ask what does it mean
to be well rounded, being that it could mean a variety of things. Being well rounded is the
specification given to those with knowledge and skills from multiple backgrounds. These skills
can come from anything including a background in arts, humanities, sports and much more but
one of the greatest skills that can better one as a worker and human being overall is the skill in

The Dream Of The Rood And Beowulf
In Anglo Saxon literary works, the writing usually addressed to a Christian audience but yet all
commonly affirm the values of the warrior cultures in power in different matters. In the two pieces
The Dream of the Rood and Beowulf there are two powerful kings being represented that are set in
overlapping values that benefit their true courageous deeds. Both are considered good, but do they
mean the same thing in Christianityand paganism contexts? Specifically, the two pieces both fuse
together Christian and pagan ideals to show their two powerful kings represented in two
completely different manners. In the literary work Beowulf the character Beowulf is known as the
king along with many others. While in the literary work The Dream of the Rood JesusChristis
known as the king since he is directly referred to as a king several times throughout the work.
The settings and time periods play a huge role in the values and beliefs of Christianity and
paganism and whether the values are good or bad that are shown in the stories. Since Beowulf
was set in Denmark and Geatland around 500 A.D. it shows us that the main factor of Beowulf
was the values of paganism. But we don t necessarily know if the paganism we re being shown is
for the better. And so on for The Dream of the Rood , set at the crucifixion, which is an obvious
Christian element, so the entire story is mainly based around the Christian values all Christians
followed. More detail is needed about the stories to

Argumentative Essay On Gay Marriage
In 2009, the Iowa Supreme Court decided to legalize same sex marriage, making Iowa the fourth
state in the United States to do so, after Massachusetts (2004), California (2006), and Connecticut
(2008). On February 2, 2011, when a group of conservatives in the Iowa State Legislature proposed
a constitutional amendment to ban gay marriageand thus overturn that decision, college student
Zach Wahls spoke about his mothers, a lesbian couple, at a public hearing before the IowaHouse
Judiciary Committee. Using a variety of rhetorical devices, Wahls argues quietly that the issue is
not whether gay parents harm children, as opponents were suggesting at the time, but whether they
will be protected equally under the law.
Wahls uses polysyndeton to emphasize three interrelated autobiographical facts: I m a sixth
generation Iowan and an engineering student at the University of Iowa and I was raised by two
women. The first fact is an appeal to Iowans sense of pride in their heritage and also to Wahls
credibility as a speaker; Wahls expects these Iowans to listen to him because he is the descendant
of Iowa pioneers. The second fact, that Wahls is an engineering student at the University of Iowa,
also appeals to Iowans sense of pride, since Wahls has chosen to attend an Iowa school. It is also
another appeal to Wahls credibility: he must be intelligent if he is an engineering student. After
using these first two facts to appeal to his audience and build his credibility,

Fear Of Public Speaking
As of 2015, more people in the United States were scared of public speaking than zombies or
volcanoes or even death. The fear of public speaking also known as glossophobia is a type of
performance anxiety, which is a subgroup of anxieties that include test anxiety, stage fright, etc. The
sensations felt by an individual could have been as minuscule as slight tremors, or as overwhelming
as gargantuan panic coupled with paralyzing fear. To have stated that glossophobiawas a difficult
fear to overcome would be a tremendous understatement; it took forever and a day to break the
vicious cycle, with the mandatory addition of constant practice. Nevertheless, individuals have
overcome their fear of public speaking by carefully preparing their presentation, using correct
breathing techniques before and during the presentation, and by interacting with their audience
frequently. Individuals who wanted to reduce their fear of public speaking knew they could not
just delete the root cause. As expected, it required time, but with constant repetition, the effects
the phobia had on one s life were weakened. Moreover, an appropriate point to start would have
merely been to have known the information cold. The pathway to success was found by only by
knowing what was needed to be talked about, as memorization is unnecessary and unwanted. If the

Children Of The Lucky Country Case Study
Australia, a nation known as The Lucky Country , has an excellent award winning democratic
society with a booming economy. It is a land with unique fauna, climate, great golden beaches and
natural resources. Despite increasing economic prosperity and technological advancement, many
Australian children are not benefiting from the progress. In fact, for some the reality is an actual
decline in the vital areas of health, education and opportunity. Although, the trends in infections,
survival at birth and in infancy, accidents and deaths in the primary school years, death rates
from severe diseases such as cancers, and overall life expectancy have all improved. However,
the levels of many problems affecting children and young people are worryingly high and appear
to be increasing. Therefore, while death rates have fallen, proportions of children and youth with
complex diseases such as asthma, diabetes, overweight and obesity, intellectual disabilities and
particularly psychological problems such as depression, suicide and eating disorders have
increased. Similar is the trend in premature births and physical disabilities such as cerebral palsy.
Such concerns about children and young people in the lucky country were raised by the Australian
of the Year 2003, Fiona Stanley and inspired her to write the book, Children of the Lucky Country?
Fiona Juliet Stanley is Founding Director of the Telethon Institute for Child Health Research in

place since 1914 and had set about placing their dug outs deep underground and fortifying them
with concrete. The barbed wire had been stretched out more than thirty metres wide, making it
almost impossible to penetrate, regardless of artillery. It was not only poor forward planning
that resulted in such terrible losses however. For example, the shells supplied to British forces
were not as Haig had envisaged, many of which were of low quality, or failed to go off at all.
Over confidence resulted in the offensive s first major flaw; it s timing. The infantry attack began
at 7.30 am on 1st July, rather than at dawn when no man s land would be covered in a thick mist
which would naturally make the task of the German gunner much more difficult. Such a time was
chosen by Commanders who were confident that there would be little, if any, resistance along the
German front. The attack began after the detonation of two huge mines placed under German lines,
the explosion of which could be heard in London. This, another flaw in scheme, only served to
inform German forces that an attack was coming. The assault consisted of twenty seven divisions,

Wyatt Earp Research Paper
If I had the chance to talk to someone for thirty minutes, I would choose Wyatt Earp. Earp was a
known as the biggest and best law enforcement officer during the late 1800 s early 1900 s.
Everywhere that Wyatt went, people knew about him. Wyatt Earp helped protect many people
during his life, and did not show fear to anyone. I admire Earp because of his bravery to protect
the people he loved and fulfilled his duty to his fullest potential. Even though Wyatt s familytold
him not to serve in law, he felt it was his duty and kept the people in Western America safe.
Talking to Wyatt Earp would be a dream of mine because he has been an inspiration of mine for
many years. I would most likely listen to him more than I would talk to him, because I really
want to hear all of his stories from his point of view. His adventures with Doc Holliday... Show

I want to know why he did it and his inspiration for selecting this path. The conversation would then
focus on Earp s time in Tombstone. I am curious about why he went to Tombstone why he wanted
to stop serving in law enforcement. The O.K. Corral was a major event that went on during the time
that Wyatt was staying in Tombstone. Just listening to Wyatt Earp tell his story about how he
stopped the outlaws and brought justice to the town of Tombstone would be enough for me, let
alone a thirty minute conversation. Talking to a any heroduring the Wild West would be an honor
within itself, but talking to Wyatt Earp satisfy any dream I have of talking to anyone famous.
He was feared by many and protected many with his life. I respect Wyatt Earp because he is a
role model for the way people should live. He was passionate, smart, and was not afraid of
anything, not even death. I believe that talking to him would make me a better person by distilling
the same brave emotions into me, and that is why I would like to talk to him more than anyone else

The Marketing Of Cvs Health Operates
Industry Overview:
The industry that CVS Health operates in is characterized as, the Retail Drugstore industry.
Companies that operate in this industry offer a wide variety of goods and services such as
prescription medication through their in store pharmacy, over the counter medications, health and
beauty items, toiletries, grocery goods, photo processing, and basic health services. This industry
includes retail stores with a pharmacy and excludes mail order retailers, hospitals and clinics.
Some hospitals and clinics offer their own pharmacy to their patients on site to cut out retail stores
such as CVS Health. Hospitals and clinics that offer such services to their patients can be
considered substitutes to a drugstore s pharmacy. Also, to fulfill their health and beauty, grocery,
and toiletry needs, consumers can choose to go to Wal Mart or Target.
The retail drugstore industry became common in the United States around the 50 year period of
1870 1920. Before drugstores became prevalent, physicians would dispense medication themselves
at their office. Once drugstores were invented, physician dispensing declined as drugstores could
dispense medication and offered customers a soda fountain. However, owners of drugstores made
most of their money from selling tobacco and soda rather than their medication (1).
Drugstores have evolved greatly over the years due to increasing competition. By 1990, the
drugstore business was changing in various ways. Demographically, there

The Period Of The Renaissance Period
Renaissance literally means rebirth. It refers particularly to the rebirth of learning during this
period. There was a tremendous revival of classical literature and art, but in the end it was the
joining of this with the intellect of the Italian people that lead to the change of the Western World.
This period was definitely more than just a rebirth though, it was also an age of new discoveries,
both geographic and intellectual. Both of these resulted in changes of tremendous importance for
Western civilization.
In the economy, for example, there were many innovations that lead to a commercial revolution.
There were innovations in banking, accounting, company structure, insurance and commercial law
and the invention of commercial capitalism. All of these things worked together to usher in a new
world that was very different from that of classical Antiquity but they also laid the foundation for
what was to come during the Renaissance period.
When looking at the culture during this time there was great influence from the Humanist
movement led by Petrarch. There has been some controversy over time as to exactly what the
humanist movement was all about. According to Burkhardt the time was a discovery of man,
which was in direct contrast to the current secular interests of the time. Modern humanists are
defined as someone who has a set of human values, which are normally secular in nature, that are
based on a particular conception of many and his potential.

Analysis Of The Lone Ranger And Tonto Fist Fight In Heaven
Do you have issues with family members not being there for you? If so, you may be in a similar
situation as victor from The Lone Ranger and Tonto Fist Fight In Heaven by Sherman Alexie.
Victor s father leaves their home and the reservation while victor is still young age leaving him to
live with his motheron the reservation. In Native American cultures, storytelling has historically
been used to convey morals, an understanding of life and death, and roles in society. Using the
fictional character Victor, Alexie takes this tradition to a new audience in order documents his
childhood struggles separation and distance from familyand how stories kept those who were absent
with him.
Family members can cause great deals of emotion when there is a separation. Victor s father
leaves home without warning when victor is an adolescent. Even though there is still a
meaningful bond between victor and his father as seen in the following quote, Come on back
inside, she said. it s cold. No, I said. I know he s coming back tonight. (p, 35). By waiting for his
father to come back Victor shows that there is a abound between them and that he is struggling with
his absence. Unfortunately, his father did not return and Victor, while struggling with his father s
abandonment, had to learn how to be a man on his own. A family member permanently leaving
while hard, is not the same as them just not being there.
Sometimes family members are absent or distracted from the family. One instance of this is
when Victor s father buys a motorbike and disappears because he is using his bike so much.
Victor s father didn t do much of anything except ride that bike and listen to music. (P, 32). By
only riding his bike and listening to music he is leaving Victor to grow up on his own not having
a proactive male role model in the immediate family. This can be harmful to anyone growing up
because the role they show you is the role of being absent for the family. One positive is that it
does give an example for you to try not to become when growing up. Sometimes we have to
remember those who are not in the family as well.
Remembering the family members not with us anymore can be just as important as them being
with us actively. One

Essay On Laparoscopic Hysterectomy
Introduction: Hysterectomy assisted by laparoscopic techniques has been used for 25 years and
recently also by a robot assisted procedure. The robot assisted procedure has been shown to have
certain advantages over conventional laparoscopic hysterectomy, as it is associated with shorter
length of stay (LOS) and fewer conversions to laparotomy 1. Both conventional laparoscopic
hysterectomy and the robot assisted procedure have many advantages over open surgery, as it
significantly reduces the need for blood transfusion as well as pain and the amount of analgesia
used 2. However, well performed studies with multimodal pain management are needed in order
to reduce the amount of opioids used and thereby reducing the well known side effects, such as
postoperative nausea and vomiting (PONV) 3. The transversus abdominis plane (TAP) block is
increasingly used as pain management after abdominal surgical procedures 4 7. Three studies
have evaluated the effect of TAP block after total laparoscopic hysterectomy with varying results 8
10. No studies on TAP block after robot assisted hysterectomy have been published. The main

In our study we placed the TAP block just after the patient was anaesthetized, prior to surgery.
TAP block can be placed either before surgery, at the end of surgery before awakening the
patient, or as a rescue block if needed at the PACU. Placement prior to surgery has the advantage
that the transversus abdominis plane might be easier to visualize with ultrasound, as surgery can
make the ultrasound picture more blurred due to oedema. The disadvantages for placing TAP
block prior to surgery may be the time limit factor, as the duration has been described to be 8 to
24 hours in previous studies. Thus, prolonged surgery time will reduce the postoperative duration
of the block. No randomiserandomized studies comparing TAP block placed prior or after surgery

A Feminist Reading of Updike s Rabbit, Run Essay
A Feminist Reading of Rabbit, Run
I do not like Harry Rabbit Angstrom. This creation of John Updike, this man who abandons his
pregnant wife and young child, and his alliance to the late 1950 s feeling of unrest and rebellion
makes me angry. Many times throughout this novel my cheeks flushed furiously and I could not
contain my exasperated sighs. When I read the last sentences of Rabbit, Run and closed the book, I
was disappointed. It was not because Updike fails to make it clear where or to whom Rabbit runs
(home to his wife? back to the prostitute?). Surprisingly, I was most disappointed because the novel
had come to an end. Although my reaction to Rabbit was negative, it was a very strong reaction; I
had become ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He sneaks down the strip of grass between the two cement walks that go with the two brick walls
(18).
Also citing this example from the novel, among others, Robert Detweiler determines what
implications this might have surrounding Rabbit s character. He states:
Harry, like his animal namesake, is mild in nature and openly harmless, even a frightened creature;
but if he is allowed to roam unchecked, he can do damage through his constant and voracious
appetites...he is always ready for flight, always poised to escape when life threatens him...he share s
the rabbit s reputation for reproduction (36).
I think it is important to add rabbits seem inoffensive, but are quietly troublesome. It is difficult
to assess their destructiveness while they are in sight. Interestingly, Updike chooses to not show
much of the immediate aftermath of Rabbit s abandonment of his wife, Janice. We are almost
exclusively in Rabbit s mind after he leaves, and we must make mere assumptions of what is
happening back at the Angstrom household. This is where a bit of my anger came to the surface.
During his initial trek, Rabbit seems innocent, charming, and timid as a rabbit. Nevertheless, if
we look beyond the superficial, Rabbit is horrible as a man. I felt duped. I was not even given a
prompt chance to prove to myself that Janice was coping poorly. In fact, we do not see Janice until
months later when she is giving birth to their daughter. For being named after a docile and shy

Essay about Salman Rushdie’s Idea of Women in The Satanic...
In Salman Rushdie s novel The Satanic Verses Rushdie tells a story about two men, Saladin
Chamcha and Gibreel Farishta, oddly connected by the fact that they both survive the hijacking of
their aircraft. Throughout the novel, Gibreel has powerful dreams in which the narrator brings up
the topic of the Satanic Verses. The Satanic Verses
were supposedly verses that Muhammadsaid were
part of the Quran and then were later revoked. The Verses allegedly said that Allah was not the
only godand that there were three slightly lesser female deities. It is believed that the Satanic
Verses were removed from the Quran because they accepted females as divine. In The Satanic

During the course of the novel, Rushdie uses the narrator, whom we assume to be Satan himself,
to illustrate to the reader why women are more inclined to not follow the strict rules of Islam,
and instead stray towards to devil because of better quality of life promised with the devil as
opposed to the demeaning and shameful life they lead in the religion of Islam. In the Mahound
chapter of The Satanic Verses, the narrator tells the story of Ibrahim and his wife and son, Hagar
and Ismail. He took them to a waterless wilderness (96) where he abandoned them, but before he
left Hagar asked him Can this be God s will? (96), and Ibrahim replied that it was. The narrator
says that men have always used God as an excuse to mistreat women in their lives and then goes
off on a tangent thinking to himself Small wonder, then, that women have turned to me (96).
This is where the reader can make the inference that the narrator is Satan because women are
turning to him and away from God and religion. They feel as though they are treated better by
the devil rather than God because the men in Islamic societies always justify the horrible things
they do to women by saying it is indeed God s will. Later on in the book in the chapter A City
Visible but Unseen Rushdie again shows the favoritism of males over females. When Hind gives
birth to her second daughter, Anahita, she is so upset that she only has two girls that she refuses to

Works and Days by Hesiod
Sometime around 750 600 B.C.E., the Greek poet Hesiod produced what is generally thought to
be the oldest surviving Greek poetic works. During this time, Greece was near the middle of its
Archaic period, a period of technological, social, political, and cultural innovations. This was the
period in which the first true alphabet system arose, the system which allowed Hesiodand other
poets like him to record permanently the oral stories and lyrics so important to Greek culture.
This was also the time in which the Greek polis emerged what is today translated as city state as a
result of increases in population size. Hand in hand with the increase in population and formation
of political bodies like the polis comes the colonization of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

you will not go hungry, so that revered Demeter (goddess of the harvest) fill/your granary with

another theme of Works and Days, the woe that women bring to men. As Hesiod tells it, the first
woman was created by Zeus as revenge against Prometheus from deceiving Zeus and giving the
gift of fire to men against his wishes. In retaliation, Zeus had Hephaistos, the god of the forge,
create from clay a mortal woman resembling the immortal goddesses. He had Athena dress her,
and Aphrodite make her wanted by men (lines 59 66). Finally, he had Hermes place inside her a
currish mind and thievish character (line 67). And then Zeus sent herb down to Prometheus brother
Epimetheus. Pandora, as she was called, meaning All Gifted, or one who is given gifts from all the
gods, brought with her a jar, which she opened, unleashing suffering onto the world. Only Hope
remained within the jar, the lid quickly shut before it could escape (lines 84 98). And thus Pandora

In a human s lifetime someone has to stand up for what they believe in, in order to make a
difference. The Greek play Antigone, by Sophocles takes place in the city of Thebes and is about
two sisters, Ismene and Antigone, reacting to the deaths of their two brothers. Ismene and Antigone
s two brothers were at war on opposites sides of a civil war. They ended up killing each other in
combat. Since the brothers, who were supposed to be the next kings of Thebes, were dead, the
throne was passed to their uncle Creon. Creon, considering Polyneices a traitor, decides that he
will only honor the brother Eteocles. This infuriates Antigone, who decides she will honor
Polyneices by burying him, despite the law made against it. In the first scene Antigone takes her
sister Ismene outside to the private gates to talk about her brother Polyneices not being able to be
buried. They go back and forth over Antigone s choice to bury their brother. Ismene doesn t want

Even today, there are people trying to make a difference and do what they think is morally right

consequences of their actions to do the right thing. Some activists such as Harriet Tubman, Martin

Impact Of Tourism On Tourism Development
I.Rationale
Since the 1970s, many different studies have investigated and analysed residents perceived tourism
impacts toward tourism development. As stated by Nunkoo, Smith, and Ramkissoon (2013),
researchers are increasingly making use of different theories to investigate this topic.
A major reason for rising interest has been the increasing evidence that tourism development leads
not only to positive, but also has the potential for negative outcomes at the local level (Lankford
Howard, 1994).
Furthermore, due to the lack of research on the particular destination, it is of special interest for the
present student to investigate the perceptions that the residents of Malaga hold toward the most
recent socio cultural impacts of tourism derived from a rapidly industry development. Some
professionals of the tourism industry state that Malaga residents consider that the tourist attractions
are only focused on tourists and therefore they do not get involved in the range of activities offered.
The result of the study can be a source of information for future studies in which the centre of
exploration are the locals residents mindset towards socio cultural tourism impacts and how the
industry development affects their quality of life in both positive and negative ways.
II.Research Questions
пѓ Why are residents such a relevant factor on tourism? Residents as ingredients of a destination
пѓ How does the community of Malaga perceive the socio cultural impacts of tourism?

Community Observation Report
Community service is services volunteered by individuals or an organization to benefit a
community or its institutions. My favorite community service job that I completed was located at
The Junior Achievement at the Atlanta Discovery Center. The objective of this service was to teach
children how to survive and succeed in the world economically through the use of time, talent,
cooperation, and education. Before they came to the center students were trained by their teachers
to budget money and to spend it wisely. So when they finally arrived, a real life model was
presented to them. With the compelling volunteer and student interaction, we helped each student
understand the theory to life and also understand the differences between needs and wants. The
building was set up with different mini department stores like Chick fil A, Publix, philanthropy
shop, SunTrust bank, home/apartment agencies, automobile shop, Belk, Kaiser Permanente, and
AT T. These shops were to help the students understand manage the differences between what they
really needand what they really want. In addition, the goal was to also help build character and
skills to make it in the fast moving real world. Before the volunteer work began the director of
the center sat us in the room and trained us, with the use of a PowerPoint on the tasks that we
would be performing. First, she assigned us a store, and some people had to share stores because
some jobs involved printing. I was assigned the

  • 2. Narrative Essay On Emergency Medical Technician My heart was going to fly out of my chest. To pass my emergency medical technician (EMT) program, I need to complete two clinical s while filling out patient care reports. I knew my procedures, but would I miss a step? I knew my terminology, but would I mix them up? Would I just be in everyone s way? I studied nonstop, aced my test, and ran through every skills lab I could. Yet, I did not feel prepared. I was going to play a part in what happens to the patient. But I was ecstatic to test my ability. My nerves were quickly forgotten as I walked to the emergency entrance with large red letters spelling EMERGENCY. I expected a large entrance considering that they are working to create a level one trauma center. As I walked through the single sliding glass door, I recognized two of the four workers at the front desk running the prehospital stroke test. One lady, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... After introducing ourselves, Rachel told me she was going to have me do any procedure that I was qualified for. I began to panic as I attempted to recall all the skills my instructors demonstrated. Grabbing the iPad, we began to walk to the first room. The monitor lit the dark room as we pulled the curtain to the side. The man I walked in earlier laid motionless with labored breathing. After reading his chart, not only was he a type one diabetic, he had gone on a four day meth binge and could not remember the last time he ate. Due to him not eating, he was experiencing an insulin shock. Can you get the vital signs while I find the glucometer Rachel asked as she rushed out the door. I poked at the monitor to find the screen I needed. Heart rate, blood oxygen saturation levels (SpO2), and blood pressure popped up. After the monitor read 112, I knew he was experiencing tachycardia, a sign of hyperglycemia. Rachel returned with a glucometer three times the size of the ones from my ... • 3. Hybrid Vehicle Disadvantages The pros and cons of Hybrid/Alternative Fueled Vehicles: There are many factors to consider when purchasing a Hybrid or Alternative Fueled Vehicle. Most times when searching for a vehicle, consumers tend to search for amenities to help cut cost. When considering alternative fueled vehicles, consumers have to keep in mind that there are several types of hybrid vehicles with different operating abilities to choose from to satisfy the needs of the consumers. With hybrids, there are three types which are hybrid electric vehicles, plug in hybrid electric vehicles and all electric vehicles. Since they all operate differently, it is important to be informed to ensure the consumer is happy and satisfied with their investment. Hybrid Electric Vehicles consist of gasoline engines, electric motors and use advanced technology to operate. One of the technologies used is a regenerative braking, which recaptures energy that is lost during coasting or braking. The use of the forward wheels is what turns the motor which generates electricity and assist to slow the vehicle. There is also a normal hydraulic braking system that stops the vehicle when the regenerative system isn t sufficient. Another technology used is the Electric Motor Drive/Assist which allows the electric motor to provide power and assist the engine in accelerating, passing and hill climbing. It also allows a smaller, more efficient engine to be used. The electric motor in hybrids drives the vehicle at low speeds, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Statistics And Crime Statistics On Crime Official crime statistics refer to statistical data which are compiled by official agencies such as the police and courts, and are published by the state. National statistics about crime in England and Wales have been collected and published by the Home Office annually since 1857. These figures are compiled by putting together the offences recorded by the police in each of the forty three police areas in England and Wales. The statistics contained in these volumes are of great significance, not only for those who study crimeor work in the criminal justice system, but also for politicians, the mass media and the general public, for whom these are the major source of authorized information about the extent and trends in crime. These figures give an indication of whether crime is increasing or decreasing and allow geographical areas to be compared, they also give a good indication of police workload. However, official statistics on crime arguably have serious deficiencies. Whether official crime statistics are an accurate measure of the extent and seriousness of crime can be questioned for a number of reasons, which will be discussed in the following essay. Alternative methods of measuring crime such as self report studies and victim surveys, which may be a more accurate measure of the extent and seriousness of crime will also be discussed. A crucial factor that can affect the recorded level of crime is the extent to which members of the public are prepared to report ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Anabolic Steroid Use in Sports Summary Anabolic Steroid use in Sports The competitive drive to win at all cost is fierce among athletes. Winning at all cost often includes using one of many performance enhancing drugs such as anabolic steroids. Many athletes use performance enhancing drugs, like steroids, to achieve higher goals and set higher records than other drug free successful athletes. Although athletes are performing at higher levels when using such drugs, what is the cost? Finally anabolic steroids should remain banned from sports because their use results in many harmful side effects; because their use violates sports regulations, and because their use can cause death. Anabolic steroids should remain banned from sports because of the many harmful... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Another reason is the potential side effect caused by the use of anabolic steroids. Since the use of steroids has become a trend among athletes, the number of deaths among them has risen. A lot of these deaths are due to suicides and violent behavior as a result of the effect of these anabolic androgenic steroids on mood. A number of recent, well publicized deaths of American football players have drawn attention to the potential dangers of sports supplements and the raised important public health concerns about the unrestricted availability of these products that are exempt from U. S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) regulation (Haller, 2002). Performance enhancing drugs are not only dangerous and damaging; they are potentially deadly. Between 1985 and 1995, at least 121 US athletes collapsed and died during or directly after a training session or game; most often because they had hypertrophic cardiomyopathy or heart malformations (Maron, 1996). Most of the athletes that have collapsed and died during or directly after training session or game tested positive for some type of performance enhancing drug. From case reports, the incidence of life threatening effects appears to be low, but serious adverse effects may be under recognized or under reported. Data from animal studies seem to support this possibility. One study found that exposing male ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Research Paper On 1930s Music Research Paper: The 1930s When the Great Depression hit its lowest point, approximately 15 million Americans were unemployed and nearly half of the nation s banks failed says, History.com. From the music that people listened to, to the clothing they wore, the people of the 1930s were forced to change their lifestyle. The way people lived changed dramatically during the 1930s due to the Great Depression. Many new musicians were founded during this era. There was a huge switch in the music industry and the genres that existed. For example, two of many new genres were introduced throughout the 30s. Hillbilly folk and Western. The center of this new western music was Texas, where taverns with new jukeboxes or stages entertained patrons. Musicians dressed as cowboys became legendary during this decade. By the end of this generation, western music became a lot more danceable and rowdy (Berg). Hillbilly folk first originated from the Appalachian Mountains and the Southeast. A few folk musicians that prospered this genre were, the Carter Family and the Smoky Mountain Boys. Hillbilly music benefited especially from radio programming like the National Barn Dance and the Grand Ole Opry. As mentioned in 1930s: Music . Although there were many more genres, those two are the ones that became very popular over the course of the 30s. Not only did music provide a distraction, but it also supplied entertainment. • 7. Performance Of Sports And Performance Enhancing Drugs Performance Enhancers in Elite Sports Performance enhancing drugs are as old as sports themselves. Even the ancient athlete that competed in some of the first Olympic Games were know to use substances to boost their performance. It is on record that Olympian Thomas Hicks won the marathon after receiving an injection of strychnine during the race in the third Olympiad . (Savulescu, 1) It wasn t until the 70 s that athletes began being tested for performance enhancing drugs and they became banned. Even then college athletes weren t tested. Only a select few Olympians and professional athletes were tested. The International Amateur Athletic Federation projects that only 10% 15% of athletes are tested at all in major competition. (Savulescu, 5) Part of this was due to the fact that the technology to test for these substances was relatively new and unavailable. But the main reason performance enhancing drugs are illegal for athletic use is because they are seen as an unfair advantage for the athletes that use them and of course because of the health risks involved with using some of these drugs in dose that wouldn t be prescribed by a physician. These reasons are either untrue or can be eliminated with their legalization. Either way, performance enhancing drugs should be allowed at the elite levels of competition such as profession sports and the Olympics. The best way for our government has found to control a substance and make it safer is through legalization and regulation. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Analysis Of Thomas Alva Edison s Life Thomas Alva Edison was born February 11, 1847, in Milan Ohio. He was the seventh and last child born to Samuel Edison Jr. and Nancy Elliot Edison. He would be one of the four to survive to adulthood[1]. During the Civil War, Edison learned a lot about the emerging technology of telegraphy. He traveled around the country doing lots of work in this field. Edison began to develop serious hearing loss early in life, in which many believed came from a serious case of scarlet fever or some type of blow to the head1. With the development of auditory signals for the telegraph, Edison knew he was at a disadvantage because of his fading hearing, and he began to work on inventing devices that would help make life a little easier for him despite his deafness. One of these devices consisted of a printer that would convert electrical signals to letters. Edison realized that he had a love for inventions, so much so, that he decided to quit telegraphy in 1869, to pursue the life of a fulltime inventor1. After Thomas Edison left the field of telegraphy, he began to develop his career as an independent entrepreneur. By doing this, he managed to form lots of partnerships that would help him in his upcoming career as an inventor. Edison had his eyes on the prize because he developed his products only for the highest bidders. Often, that was Western Union Telegraph Company, or one of its competitors[2]. • 9. Contemporary Political Theory Should We Have On... Policy makers need a certain measure of agreement on what is just and unjust (Rawls, 1999: 6) to coordinate their policies efficiently, meet expectations and grant stability in society. Answering whether policy makers should listen to a statement like this, we will explore what impact contemporary political theory should have on policy makers and examine the nature of their relationship. Due to its limited scope, this essay cannot elucidate whether policy makers should listen to natural scientists or economists, comparatively. In what follows I shall focus entirely on Rawls s A Theory of Justice (TJ) and Nozick s Anarchy, State, and Utopia (ASU). I furthermore assume that political theorists and policy makers are two separate parties and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Rawls convincingly illuminates that individual policy makers can critically reflect upon their self interest by internally assuming impartiality (Rawls, 1999: 119 120). This intuitive method for understanding the role of justice (Campbell, 1988: 82) serves as a framework for unbiased policy making. Despite various political attitudes, institutions rest on an underlying consent about what is (un)just. In this sense, the OP makes individuals see policy goals from distance (Rawls, 1999: 19). Beyond that, by listening to political theory, policy makers learn to evaluate how we speak about justice (see Campbell, 1988: 9). Intuitive societal debates about who deserves what should be heard so that policy makers are not only informed by lobbyists. Even if parliament does not discuss political theories, they translate into culture and beliefs. The MapReduce was implemented using C + + and has interfaces to Java and Python. The MapReduce was developed by Google but there are some open source implementations, among which stands out the Hadoop (Hadoop 2010). The Hadoop is a framework of free code in Java to run applications that manipulate large amounts of data in distributed environments. The Hadoop is composed by the file system HDFS (Hadoop Distributed File System) and a parallel execution environment. Within this environment, or better, the Hadoop framework, several subprojects can be found, such as the implementation of MapReduce, the distributed data management system called HBase, data flow language r and structure for parallel execution called Pig. The main characteristics of the Hadoop are: distributed storage systems, file partitioned into large blocks is distributed on the nodes of the system, blocks replicated to handle hardware failure and a location for temporary data. Unlike other approaches to distributed file systems, the storage and processing of HDFS is done at each node of the system. The allusion to pagan fable that most haunts views of Milton s Eve is her Narcissus like behavior when, fresh from her Creator s hand, she pauses at the verge of the mirror lake attracted by her own reflection and has to be called twice: first by God, who leads her to Adam, and then, as she starts back toward the softer beauty of the face in the lake, by Adam himself. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Scholars have attempted to come up with an answer which explains Eve s Narcissus like tendencies. Some scholars feel that Eve s narcissism is an innocent stage of human development since she quickly outgrows it. (McColley 63). One scholar feels that There is a certain beauty in Eve s narcissism because it is the linking of above and below. (Norford 10, 14). Others, like Jonathan Collett, gather the idea that Eve s scene at the pool is simply a biblical form of the Narcissus myth. The myth of Narcissus, written by Ovid, is the tale of a hero whose self love gradually brought him to his death. Although Eve s memorization of herself at the pool did not ultimately take her life, there are many similarities which tie Eve s scene at the pool and the myth of Narcissus together. Mr. Collett writes, This situation by the pool echoes Ovid s tale of Narcissus and attributes to Eve a native vanity that issues in the Fall, sometimes finding additional sinister implications in periodic resemblances between the creation of Eve and the birth of Sin. Halogen bonding (XB) is in some ways analogous to hydrogen bonding (HB). In the latter, a hydrogen atom is shared between an atom, group or molecule that donates and another that accepts it.[1 3] In halogen bonding, it is a halogen atom X that is shared between a donor R and an acceptor Y. To have stated that glossophobiawas a difficult fear to overcome would be a tremendous understatement; it took forever and a day to break the vicious cycle, with the mandatory addition of constant practice. Nevertheless, individuals have overcome their fear of public speaking by carefully preparing their presentation, using correct breathing techniques before and during the presentation, and by interacting with their audience frequently. Individuals who wanted to reduce their fear of public speaking knew they could not just delete the root cause. It is a land with unique fauna, climate, great golden beaches and natural resources. Despite increasing economic prosperity and technological advancement, many Australian children are not benefiting from the progress. In fact, for some the reality is an actual decline in the vital areas of health, education and opportunity. Although, the trends in infections, survival at birth and in infancy, accidents and deaths in the primary school years, death rates from severe diseases such as cancers, and overall life expectancy have all improved. However, the levels of many problems affecting children and young people are worryingly high and appear to be increasing. Therefore, while death rates have fallen, proportions of children and youth with complex diseases such as asthma, diabetes, overweight and obesity, intellectual disabilities and particularly psychological problems such as depression, suicide and eating disorders have increased. Similar is the trend in premature births and physical disabilities such as cerebral palsy. Why the Battle of the Somme is Regarded as a Great Military Tragedy On 1st July 1916, General Haig prepared the battle plan for an offensive on German lines, designed to relieve the strain on French forces at Verdun and break through a strong line of German defences. While Haig would have preferred an attack further north, he was hopeful that the operation should be successful in drawing forces away from Verdun and killing as many German troops as possible as part of the war of attrition . The location was the Somme River. The details were worked out by General Haig and his deputy, General Rawlinson. The strength of German defences was also underestimated, seeing as the Germans had been in place since 1914 and had set about placing their dug outs deep underground and fortifying them with concrete. The barbed wire had been stretched out more than thirty metres wide, making it almost impossible to penetrate, regardless of artillery. It was not only poor forward planning that resulted in such terrible losses however. For example, the shells supplied to British forces were not as Haig had envisaged, many of which were of low quality, or failed to go off at all. Over confidence resulted in the offensive s first major flaw; it s timing. The infantry attack began at 7.30 am on 1st July, rather than at dawn when no man s land would be covered in a thick mist which would naturally make the task of the German gunner much more difficult. Such a time was chosen by Commanders who were confident that there would be little, if any, resistance along the German front. The attack began after the detonation of two huge mines placed under German lines, the explosion of which could be heard in London. This, another flaw in scheme, only served to inform German forces that an attack was coming. The assault consisted of twenty seven divisions, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 46. The Period Of The Renaissance Period Renaissance literally means rebirth. It refers particularly to the rebirth of learning during this period. There was a tremendous revival of classical literature and art, but in the end it was the joining of this with the intellect of the Italian people that lead to the change of the Western World. This period was definitely more than just a rebirth though, it was also an age of new discoveries, both geographic and intellectual. Both of these resulted in changes of tremendous importance for Western civilization. In the economy, for example, there were many innovations that lead to a commercial revolution. There were innovations in banking, accounting, company structure, insurance and commercial law and the invention of commercial capitalism. All of these things worked together to usher in a new world that was very different from that of classical Antiquity but they also laid the foundation for what was to come during the Renaissance period. When looking at the culture during this time there was great influence from the Humanist movement led by Petrarch. There has been some controversy over time as to exactly what the humanist movement was all about. According to Burkhardt the time was a discovery of man, which was in direct contrast to the current secular interests of the time. Modern humanists are defined as someone who has a set of human values, which are normally secular in nature, that are based on a particular conception of many and his potential. ... • 47. Analysis Of The Lone Ranger And Tonto Fist Fight In Heaven Do you have issues with family members not being there for you? If so, you may be in a similar situation as victor from The Lone Ranger and Tonto Fist Fight In Heaven by Sherman Alexie. Victor s father leaves their home and the reservation while victor is still young age leaving him to live with his motheron the reservation. In Native American cultures, storytelling has historically been used to convey morals, an understanding of life and death, and roles in society. Using the fictional character Victor, Alexie takes this tradition to a new audience in order documents his childhood struggles separation and distance from familyand how stories kept those who were absent with him. Family members can cause great deals of emotion when there is a separation. Victor s father leaves home without warning when victor is an adolescent. Even though there is still a meaningful bond between victor and his father as seen in the following quote, Come on back inside, she said. it s cold. No, I said. I know he s coming back tonight. (p, 35). By waiting for his father to come back Victor shows that there is a abound between them and that he is struggling with his absence. Unfortunately, his father did not return and Victor, while struggling with his father s abandonment, had to learn how to be a man on his own. A family member permanently leaving while hard, is not the same as them just not being there. Sometimes family members are absent or distracted from the family. One instance of this is when Victor s father buys a motorbike and disappears because he is using his bike so much. Victor s father didn t do much of anything except ride that bike and listen to music. (P, 32). By only riding his bike and listening to music he is leaving Victor to grow up on his own not having a proactive male role model in the immediate family. This can be harmful to anyone growing up because the role they show you is the role of being absent for the family. One positive is that it does give an example for you to try not to become when growing up. Sometimes we have to remember those who are not in the family as well. Remembering the family members not with us anymore can be just as important as them being with us actively. One ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The robot assisted procedure has been shown to have certain advantages over conventional laparoscopic hysterectomy, as it is associated with shorter length of stay (LOS) and fewer conversions to laparotomy 1. Both conventional laparoscopic hysterectomy and the robot assisted procedure have many advantages over open surgery, as it significantly reduces the need for blood transfusion as well as pain and the amount of analgesia used 2. However, well performed studies with multimodal pain management are needed in order to reduce the amount of opioids used and thereby reducing the well known side effects, such as postoperative nausea and vomiting (PONV) 3. The transversus abdominis plane (TAP) block is increasingly used as pain management after abdominal surgical procedures 4 7. Many times throughout this novel my cheeks flushed furiously and I could not contain my exasperated sighs. When I read the last sentences of Rabbit, Run and closed the book, I was disappointed. I think it is important to add rabbits seem inoffensive, but are quietly troublesome. It is difficult to assess their destructiveness while they are in sight. Interestingly, Updike chooses to not show much of the immediate aftermath of Rabbit s abandonment of his wife, Janice. We are almost exclusively in Rabbit s mind after he leaves, and we must make mere assumptions of what is happening back at the Angstrom household. This is where a bit of my anger came to the surface. Throughout the novel, Gibreel has powerful dreams in which the narrator brings up the topic of the Satanic Verses. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... During the course of the novel, Rushdie uses the narrator, whom we assume to be Satan himself, to illustrate to the reader why women are more inclined to not follow the strict rules of Islam, and instead stray towards to devil because of better quality of life promised with the devil as opposed to the demeaning and shameful life they lead in the religion of Islam. In the Mahound chapter of The Satanic Verses, the narrator tells the story of Ibrahim and his wife and son, Hagar and Ismail. He took them to a waterless wilderness (96) where he abandoned them, but before he left Hagar asked him Can this be God s will? (96), and Ibrahim replied that it was. The narrator says that men have always used God as an excuse to mistreat women in their lives and then goes off on a tangent thinking to himself Small wonder, then, that women have turned to me (96). This is where the reader can make the inference that the narrator is Satan because women are turning to him and away from God and religion. They feel as though they are treated better by the devil rather than God because the men in Islamic societies always justify the horrible things they do to women by saying it is indeed God s will. In retaliation, Zeus had Hephaistos, the god of the forge, create from clay a mortal woman resembling the immortal goddesses. He had Athena dress her, and Aphrodite make her wanted by men (lines 59 66). Finally, he had Hermes place inside her a currish mind and thievish character (line 67). And then Zeus sent herb down to Prometheus brother Epimetheus. Pandora, as she was called, meaning All Gifted, or one who is given gifts from all the gods, brought with her a jar, which she opened, unleashing suffering onto the world. Only Hope remained within the jar, the lid quickly shut before it could escape (lines 84 98). And thus Pandora damned men, previously living happily on earth, remote from ... Since the brothers, who were supposed to be the next kings of Thebes, were dead, the throne was passed to their uncle Creon. Creon, considering Polyneices a traitor, decides that he will only honor the brother Eteocles. This infuriates Antigone, who decides she will honor Polyneices by burying him, despite the law made against it. • 54. Impact Of Tourism On Tourism Development I.Rationale Since the 1970s, many different studies have investigated and analysed residents perceived tourism impacts toward tourism development. As stated by Nunkoo, Smith, and Ramkissoon (2013), researchers are increasingly making use of different theories to investigate this topic. A major reason for rising interest has been the increasing evidence that tourism development leads not only to positive, but also has the potential for negative outcomes at the local level (Lankford Howard, 1994). Furthermore, due to the lack of research on the particular destination, it is of special interest for the present student to investigate the perceptions that the residents of Malaga hold toward the most recent socio cultural impacts of tourism derived from a rapidly industry development. Some professionals of the tourism industry state that Malaga residents consider that the tourist attractions are only focused on tourists and therefore they do not get involved in the range of activities offered. • 55. Community Observation Report Community service is services volunteered by individuals or an organization to benefit a community or its institutions. My favorite community service job that I completed was located at The Junior Achievement at the Atlanta Discovery Center. The objective of this service was to teach children how to survive and succeed in the world economically through the use of time, talent, cooperation, and education. Before they came to the center students were trained by their teachers to budget money and to spend it wisely. So when they finally arrived, a real life model was presented to them. With the compelling volunteer and student interaction, we helped each student understand the theory to life and also understand the differences between needs and wants. The building was set up with different mini department stores like Chick fil A, Publix, philanthropy shop, SunTrust bank, home/apartment agencies, automobile shop, Belk, Kaiser Permanente, and AT T. These shops were to help the students understand manage the differences between what they really needand what they really want. In addition, the goal was to also help build character and skills to make it in the fast moving real world. Before the volunteer work began the director of the center sat us in the room and trained us, with the use of a PowerPoint on the tasks that we would be performing. First, she assigned us a store, and some people had to share stores because some jobs involved printing. I was assigned the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
