2. Rhetorical Techniques In Billy Joel s The Nylon Curtain
While the term authored is traditionally applied to literary works, the term can be used in a
broader sense to refer to any piece which employs rhetorical devices in order to serve a specific
purpose or put forth a specific message. In terms of an audio album, the cover artwork is the
first part a listener is exposed to and can be expected to pique that person s curiosity so that they
are led to learn more about or buy the album. The artwork created by Christopher Austopchuk for
Billy Joel s album The Nylon Curtain exemplifies this concept of authoring as the scene he uses
both draws one s interest when first seen and embodies a part of the social commentary presented
through the lyrics of the album. The cover of The Nylon Curtain presents a bleak view of the
American Dream, with an illustration of a line of houses, all exactly the same: two stories, an
attached garage, and a car inside the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The title brings to mind the historical scene in which the album was released due to the relation
to the figurative Iron Curtain which divided Europe at the time. With the Cold War continuing
and the recent loss of the Vietnam War, the title contributed to the dreary image which the cover
paints for America at the time. This reference to the conflict at the time further appeals to the
sympathies of the audience, with many opposing the war efforts which were ongoing for
decades. Because of this, they would likely have identified with both the title and the songs on
the album which voiced opposition to the war in Vietnam and spoke of the suffering caused by it.
This use of pathos would lead one to be curious about the meaning behind the title if they were to
see the album in a record store, advancing one main purpose of the cover artwork: to lead one to
want to buy the

3. Argumentative Essay On Teen Abortion

Teen Abortions aren t Always a Bad Thing
Imagine it is late at night, and you are walking home from a friend s house. It s very dark and
you can t really see what s going on until all of a sudden, this random man grabs you and throws
you into the back of his car. That same night this man rapes and sexually abuses you. Later on, you
find out that you are pregnant by this man and you don t want to keep it, but everyone around you
is telling you that you shouldn t get an abortion because you would then be labeled as killing your
child. Now you are stuck debating whether or not you want to give birth to a baby that wouldn t
be here if you weren t raped that night you were walking home from your friend s house. One of
the biggest dilemmas in today s time is whether or not teen abortions should be legal. Every year,
more than 50% of babies that are conceived, come into the world unwanted (Guttmacher). Whether
it is from the mother being raped, abused, not wanting their parents to find out, not wanting
everyone to know that they had sex, or even just the thought of the fact that she is a child raising a
child. Therefore, all teens should be allowed to have an abortion for many different reasons without
being told they are murdering their child.
Abortions became a political debate after the court case of Roe v Wade legalized abortions in 1973.
In the 1973 case of Roe v. Wade, the U.S Supreme court ruled that the woman has

What caused injury and death during (and after) ancient battles? Soldiering has never been an
easy job. In any period of history the risks are rarely any different, death and injury stalk every
battlefield the world over. Egyptian and Greek warfare became sophisticated theatres of mortality
and injury in their day, the means by which the enemy could be dispatched were numerous and
effective. Rivalling this however, was nature; infection and disease were as big a risk to the
soldier as any blade. Injury is also present in the mind of the warrior, the stress of battle, the grief,
the inner turmoil caused by murder and the horrors one could witness remained long in the memory
of every veteran and for some this manifested itself in mental... Show more content on

This relief displays the impact arrows had in battle alongside other weapons; Winlock comments
that, the dead and wounded bristling with arrows in the Deshasheh reliefs give a realistic picture
of the battlefields . Along with sources like that of The Tomb of Amenemhet and its depiction of
ranged weapons we can confidently assert that arrows and other ranged weapons played a large
role in causing the casualties of Egyptian warfare, the physical evidence unsupportive due to
flesh decay and wood s biodegradability. In all, the pitched battle was quite clearly a dangerous
place but if we are to take the Deir el Bahri tomb as an example there appears to be only 60 or so
dead out of a force of perhaps hundreds, a reasonably low percentage, it would be reasonable to
assume that death and injury trailed the surviving soldier home. Many of the injuries sustained
during a battle would not be immediately lethal, Egyptian soldiers could carry war wounds to their
death. Short term post battle deaths would occur from damage like: internal bleeding, blood loss,
infection and injuries which would prevent the soldier from functions like eating and drinking.
Many more would survive battles with injuries that whilst were not lethal in the short term would
leave the sufferer with severe pain and/or disability. We know that many could return from battle
with brain damage, the Edwin

5. Constantine the Ruler of the Roman Empire
Constantine the ruler of the Roman Empire had been surrounded by many controversies during
his reign (Cameron, 14). He was the son of a great warrior and he defeated Manutius a great ruler
at Milia Bridge. He had gained much respect and admiration among the Romans as a fair ruler. He
emerged as a ruler who supported Christianityand then became popular as a Christian ruler himself.
His reign and victory over the Roman Empireis a significant event in the history of Christian
religion. With the Edict of Milan in 313 Christianity was recognized as a religion, and the
followers were free to practice Christianity without fear. It has been argued that Constantine failed
to treat different religions equally as paganism (Cameron, 57). Constantine also sponsored
churches, promoted Christians to high government ranks, exempted taxes for the clergy. In the
latter days of his rule Constantine had a stricter approach towards Christianity and professed that
there is one God, the Christian God. He rewarded building temples into churches. He played a key
role in framing important church policies namely The Council of Arles, A.D. 314 and The Council
of Nicaea, A.D. 325.
Constantine, however faced much challenges after he legalized Christianity. Christianity had been
divided into different churches and their views. Constantine is also responsible for the creation of a
universal church. Constantine presided over the First Ecumenical Council held at Nicaea to resolve
the Arian Controversy.

6. Colonial Empires Of The New World
Colonial Empires of the New World

November 9, 2015
4th Period Abstract
In my paper I will be discussing the different colonies in the new world. I will talk about the main
settlers in the new world including; the Europeans, the Spanish, the Dutch, the French. How these
settlers interact will be the main topic of my report. I will also discuss the effect these settlers had
on the Indians that lived in the territories they claimed.
Empires and Colonies in the New World The first foreign settlers that came to the new world
were the Spanish. Many countries seeked trade with Asia but had to go around the tip of Africa to
get there. In 1492 the king of Spain at the time King Ferdinand funded the voyage of a Christopher
Columbus to sail across the ocean to find a better rout than what was being currently used. While he
never set foot in North America he opened the door for English exploration.
By the time the English made it over to the new world the Spanish had already explored a lot of
North America and encountered three major groups of peoples; the Incans in present day Peru, and
the Mayans and Aztecs in present day Mexico and South America. With their exploration they
found wealth in the form of gold and silver. They brought guns, horses, and armor that made the
local peoples view them as gods. But along with foreign technologies they brought illness.
Smallpox, influenza, malaria, measles, typhus and syphilis were transported to the

7. Casual Employment in Australia
Introduction Over the past decades, casual employment in Australia has become a phenomenon of
great concern. With the soaring numbers of casual employment, the debates about the benefits and
drawbacks of causal employment have become fiercer. Casualization is a very important form of
employment in Australia, which has been protected by workplace law. The majority of casual
labor force constantly contact with their potential employers to apply job and confirm the
arrangement of working time from month to month, or even week to week. In term of wages,
causal workers cannot get paid for the annual holiday leave. However, they can receive more paid
than the full time workers for the same working hours. In this essay, how casual... Show more

Of course, casual employment is not the only reason for problems in the human resource market.
There is no denying that causal workers are also important components of labor force, just like
permanent employees and self employed workers. However, most of people agree that causal
labor forces are the most vulnerable group in the job market. When it comes to the influence of
casual employment on the economy and individual enterprises, there is little agreement on this
issue. Many small companies strongly support casual employees, for the payment for casual
employees is far lower than the fixed employees. Some enterprises go even further, which hire the
entire workforce from the casual employment group. Apart from the reason that casual
employment can save the cost of the companies, flexibility is also an important reason for them to
select casual workers. There are also other managers who maintain that causal employees are not a
wise choice for all the companies. This is because many causal workers are poor in skill and
productivity with low commitment to the enterprise. Casual employment may meet the short term
demand for both employees and employers, but it may lead to the constraint of dynamic
productivity and innovation. This is not in accordance with the long run interests for employers. To
distinguish the benefits of employers from the benefits of whole economy is also

8. Comparing The Langmuir And Bet Isotherms
Figure 3 Comparison of the Langmuir and BET isotherms
Fig. 3 compares Langmuir and BET isotherm shapes: gas adsorption along the BET isotherm
contributes more significantly at early time of production than that of Langmuir isotherm curve.
The reason for this is the slope of the BET isotherm curve at higher pressure is larger than that of
the Langmuir isotherm curve, resulting in more adsorbed gas releasing at early production times.
The amount of released adsorbed gas with BET isotherm curve is larger than that with Langmuir
isotherm curve under the same pressure drop from the initial reservoir pressure to the bottom hole
pressure.
Dubinin Astakhov equation
To describe adsorption in micro porous material, Dubinin Astakhov have proposed form of Dubinin

The author utilized setting expertly as he casually introduces the fact that the apartment is on
the eleventh floor of a New York apartment building during the first few paragraphs of the story.
The scene is further set when the contrast between the warmth in the apartment and the coldness
of the ledge is portrayed when his wife leaves for the movies. An additional contrast in setting is
created as he will be working, and later be stuck on the cold ledge, fighting for his life, while his
wife is relaxing in the comfort of the theatre. The author utilizes a narrator with an omniscient
point of view. This allows the reader to get an insight into the thoughts and feelings of Tom. The
use of this type of narrator also allows the author to control what and how much is revealed to
the reader in building suspense. The point of view used influences the effectiveness of suspense
as the narrator reveals the various thoughts and feelings of Tom at the correct point in the
development of the story to keep the reader absorbed by the developments. The narrator s
perspective affects your understanding of the story. The tone in this story is seemingly neutral
and factual, but on closer assessment it becomes clear that the author, Jack Finney, portrays a
sympathetic view towards the character Tom Benecke. The way the narrator is telling the story
results in a lot of suspense. Will Tom go out on the ledge? Will he be able to retrieve the yellow

Revenge and must convince the crew that he is the real Jack Sparrow. Here he uses his tricky and
slick tongue to persuade the crew to lead a mutiny. After meeting Blackbeard, he agrees to help him
find the fountain of youth, but he is only trying to find it for his own profit. A trickster blurs
boundaries of society and does it for his own good. Sparrow blurs the boundaries between being a
pirate and doing the right thing. Throughout the series, he can be seen offering to help and then
turning it into his own personal gain. In on Stranger Tides, Sparrow acts like he is going to help the
king and then turns against him and escapes. Once he arrives on Blackbeard s ship, Sparrow
agrees to help them find the fountain of youth. Once on the journey, he turns to doing what
benefits him; thus, again blurring the boundaries and using trickery. Captain Barbosa is another
character who uses trickery and blurs boundaries. The rivalry between Sparrow and Barbosa is
evident of trickery in how they build off each other to trick others for their own good. In on
Stranger Tides Barbosa acts as a captain for the British Navy to find Blackbeard who took his leg
from him in the past. Barbosa was only using the Navy to run a ship to follow Blackbeard and find
the fountain of youth where he turned back into a pirate with the motive to kill Blackbeard.

12. Semiotics Analysis of Lego Advert
Lego targets parents, offering an alternative to television!
From the first glance, it is immediately noticeable that this controversial advertisement is clearly
very different from the traditional advertisements one would expect from Lego. It definitely has the
parents as the target audience and is focusing on the parent s fear of bad influences on their children.
When one considers who the preferred, negotiated and oppositional readers would be as defined
by Stuart Hall (Hall et al. 1980), it becomes noticeable that the preferred reading for this
advertisement would be that of wealthy young parents that can still relate to playing with Lego
when they too were children. Even more so would be the parents that are influenced by the ... Show

The target audience of the advertisement can easily make a connotation with the signs given in the
first frame that this woman is about to have an intimate and maybe even sexual encounter. Her
partner being unknown to the audience does signify that he is likely unknown to her as well. The
door in the right of the image serves as a great use of an anchor to confirm to the audience that
these two are about to have a monument in private behind a closed door.
The signs in the second frame of the advert can be denoted as a young male sitting on a white
sofa holding an object to his head. The audience cannot see the object his holding as it has been
censored out with Lego blocks. There is also a bottle of orange liquid with black labels. The
room the man is sitting in is very sterile and empty and the only other known items visible is a
newspaper, knocked over drinking glass and a chest of draws in the background.
As with the first frame, the creators of the advert, DDB advertising agency (Best ad, 2009, online),
were relying on semiotics. They were trusting that in our modern culture the audience would be
able to see the censored shape and colours of the Lego pixelated object and use it as an indexed
sign to derive the meaning that the man is in fact holding a gun against his head.
This notion is anchored by the man s facial expression. The clever use of semiotics tool of

In Dancing at Lughnasa (1990) by Brian Friel (b.1929), the author presents a memory play with
themes of memory and migration, together with language and performance. The drama explores
complex issues in the lives of invented characters (Lojek, 2006 in Gupta, 2012, p. 250). Friel s
characters stress memory over history, the stage directions demonstrate a variety of events in an
individual and communal position. The Mundy s family express their past with a social historical
background, depicting their wishes and relationship in a maze of recollections, that are made of
events or persons from their past. Moreover, the recollections of events foregrounds the theme of
memory. However to consider the realistic features in tension with the role of memory, the audience
must focus on Friel pretending presence of characters and incidents on stage, embedded within the
text that provide a fundamental tone of loss and everyday details of the characters lives.

The lighting in Showrooms is imperative to take into consideration for the success of a business.
The quality of lighting effects how the products looks, and how clients will perceive it. Ultimately,
lighting effects whether a client will purchase your products or not. Even with the enormous set of
visual environmental cues present in retail environments, lightingdoes play a significant role in
creating an ambiance. This quote by Yvonne De Kort is expressing the importance of lighting in
a retail space and the effects it has on a spaces ambiance. Lighting effects how everyone feels and
changes the ways we interact in spaces. I am going to go through the showrooms I observed and
reflect what I learned about the types of lighting fixtures and lighting layers in showrooms.
RESEARCH
In showrooms it s important to include all form of lighting (general, task, and decorative) into the
space to create a cohesive lighting design that showcases the products that are being lit. Lighting
can be used to direct focus to certain products, and create paths for customers to follow. It is good
to consider the flexibility of the fixtures placed, to allow for adjustment when store displays are
changed. Making sure the color rendering of the lamps is high quality, so the clients know what the
products actually look like. Keeping maintenance easy is important, because products that are not
lighting properly will not sell. Layered lighting techniques must support the plan of the space and

Title IX consists of just thirty seven words, and it is these words that have transformed the
dynamics within the female athletic sphere in the United States. Although the federal law was
initially envisioned to assist women in academia, it is currently renowned for its profound
impact on American sports (Ware). It is an irrefutable fact that Title IX has vastly increased
women s participation in sports: the law has reportedly increased female participation rates
within colleges six fold from 1972 the year it was passed to today (Cooky). Opportunities for
women in sports have never been greater. However, despite the progress made by Title IX, it
faces deep challenges in its quest to achieve true equality. Women s participation rates in sports
still lag far behind men, and one cannot ignore this disturbing reality ( National Coalition ).
Thus, the question as to whether or not Title IX has achieved gender equity is highly debatable.
This paper intends to understand the shortcomings of Title IX s goal in attaining true equality
through analysis of its limitations. Specifically, this essay will explore women s history in
sports prior to Title IX, the importance of sports for females, an overview of Title IX s statute,
and an analysis of the law s various issues. To narrow the scope of my essay, I will focus mainly
on intercollegiate sports. Historical Attitudes Pre Title IX Prior to the passing of Title IX in 1972,

extends the discussion from diatonic triads and tetrachords to more set classes, and how much of
the similar voice leading properties are retained. There are, however, multiple questions that I am

I found the idea of relating the set classes of the same sum through pure contrary voice leading
very useful and neat. The tetrahedron shown on p. 36 is very interesting in terms of geometrical
properties. However, the tetrachords with doubling tetrahedron is somewhat artificial to me. The
geometrical neatness is facilitated by the multiset (0112), but outside the vertices, each
tetrachord can only link to one/two tetrachords of the same nature through the same motion.
Similarly in the tetrahedron B, the tetrachord that enables the geometry to happen is (0134). I
wonder how we can find out such pivotal set classes when we construct such spaces. In the case
of the space in trichords, I really curious about the cases when we are dealing with odd sum
classes. I am fascinated by the fact that the axis of symmetry is between two rows of 6 trichords
(like p. 21) while that of an even sum class only contains one row of 6 trichords that is the also
axis of symmetry. Other than figuring out the pitch center of balance through the clockface or
arithmetical means, would there be some kind of geometrical significance? There are a lot of
interesting geometrical features in the examples and I really want to see more in depth relationship

It was supposed to be implemented by 1916, when Schlieffen felt that Germany would be strong
enough to be victorious; however, when Schlieffen designed his plan, he did not take politcs or
the chaos that it would lead to into account. Two years before they were prepared to implement
the Plan, in 1914, a Serbian nationalist killed the Austrian Archduke Franz Ferdinand. It is
believed that the tension between Serbia and Austria Hungary goes back to the annexation of
Bosnia and Herzegovina by Austria Hungary. Serbia was infuriated because it ruined their hope
of Slavic unity and freedom by using Bosnia to establish a large Serbian Kingdom. Because of
the archduke s assassination and the fact that Serbia rejected some of the ultimatums given by
Austria Hungary in order to preserve its sovereignty, Austria Hungary declared war on Serbia.
After the takeover of Bosnia and Herzegovina by Austria Hungary, Russia and Austria Hungary s
allies were committed to supporting their respective allies more effectively in the event of
another crisis. Therefore, since Russia was determined to fully support Serbia, Czar Nicholas II
ordered partial mobilization, the process of assembling troops and supplies and making them

21. Figueroa s Framework In Tennis
Figueroa s Framework is a tool used in examining the sociocultural factors influencing equity and
access to sport and physical activity. It is made up of five levels individual, interpersonal,
institutional, structural, and cultural. These levels relate back to the idea of access and equity to
sport the ability to playand the access to the same opportunities (Amezdroz, et al., 2010). I will
discuss the impact that the individual, interpersonal, and institutional levels have had on my
experiences and performances in tennisthis term and make recommendations on how to maintain or
improve my experiences and performances in tennis.
The individual level of Figueroa s Framework refers to the factors that affected my sports
performance which based on my own attitudes, values, beliefs, and experiences. Having had past
experience in tennis positively impacted my performance as it gave me essential knowledge of
the rules, and allowed me to begin development of skills prior to this unit. My previous tennis
experience stretches back to grade 7, where I played tennis for inter school sport. With the help
of an experienced friend, I was able to improve greatly and pick up key tennis skills. Once
entering high school, I had multiple occasions in which I had the opportunity and access to
improve my tennis skills, including during HPE and Wednesday sport. This prior experience is
extremely relevant in my tennis performance this term for a number of reasons. It gave me

Advantages of remote corrosion monitoring There are a variety of remote corrosion monitoring
systems that enable maintenance personel and plant operators to get accurate measurements of

Although many people believe that capital punishment is cruel and unusual. It is the only
punishment that can truly compensate the loss of a loved one. In recent years, the rate of serious
crimes has increased. The increase of crime is the result of less effective punishment. Dating back
to early civilizations, capital punishment, also known as the death penalty, was viewed as an
effective punishment. Yet today s society it is viewed as cruel and inhumane. I believe that capital
punishment should be executed more often because; the rate of serious crimewill decrease, free up
prison space, and would serve as the ultimate warning. What is capital punishment? Capital
punishment is the lawful way to take a person s life, once convicted of a serious crime, such as
first degree murder. Some people agree it is the most appropriate punishment to all vile murder
cases (Williams), but others call it cruel and unconstitutional. There are a variety of methods in
the death penalty. The method used most would be lethal injections, due to its quickness,
effectiveness, and pain less results. My first reason why I believe the death penalty should be
executed more often is because it could possibly help the problem of overcrowding in prisons.
States such as Texas and California, mainly suffer from this problem due to its vast population and
crime rate. Instead of keeping inmates for life in prison, its better to execute the one s with the

Abstract. Coherent Optical Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (CO OFDM) technique is
extensively reconnoitered for next generation optical communication system emerges attractive
pathway towards future implementation of 1 Tb/s Ethernet systems. This paper proposed the
design of 100 Gb/s CO OFDM system based on the dual polarization of signal. The performance of
100 Gb/s CO OFDM system using Quadrature Amplitude Modulation (QAM) format transmitted
over 576 km optical link using standard SMF is evaluated. The performance of the system in terms
of signal to noise ratio (SNR), bit error rate (BER), laser linewidth, chromatic dispersion and
receiving constellation diagram to accomplish excellent system. Eventually, dual polarization based
CO OFDM system has high spectral efficiency as compared to conventional CO OFDM and

The Boy in the Striped Pajamas Persuasive Paper
The Boy in the Striped Pajamas, written by John Boyne, displays the importance of never letting a
holocaust happen again, and he puts this into words in a sarcastic way. John Boyne s story is a
good teaching tool for the Holocaust, because he displays the overall theme, which is millions of
Jews being put into concentration camps, and killed. He adds details of how Jewish people were
treated horribly, which is what happened in the Holocaust. However what John Boyne fails to do is
elaborate on the little details. For instance, the fence would have been barbed wire and it is not in
the story. Despite the minor details, the story is a good teaching tool for the Holocaust, because it

Working in clinical setting was a great experience. I had the pleasure to care for a resident that

experience with my resident and performed an assessment known as a SPICES. This assessment
allows us as caregivers to identify and help provide nursing interventions to an elderly that may
face these geriatric syndromes. During a SPICES assessment, we look for signs of problems
during sleep, problems eating, incontinence, confusion, as well as evidence of any falls and any
possible skin breakdown. During my assessment, I encountered many medical conditions my
patient has that supports that she is having problems with a few of the geriatric syndromes.
When it comes to sleep, my patient does not seem to sleep very well and has difficulty falling
asleep. There are no signs that my resident has any problems with her everyday feeding and
eating. She is able to perform this daily activity individually. As for having trouble with
incontinence, for the most part this resident is able to tell a caregiver when she has to use the
restroom. To make herself more comfortable at night she will not eat or drink anything too late
which prevents her from having to use the bathroom during sleep hours. While she will not ask

28. The Sleeping Giant
Inventory Management: The Sleeping Giant Inventory management seems intuitive at first. Avoid
stock outs by making sure you have enough inventory and you should be fine. After a few minutes
into our discussion, it was evident that I had grossly underestimated the science behind it. Figuring
out how much inventoryto order, when to order it, and how to maintain it was something that never
crossed my mind. Having too much inventory was a problem I didn t think could hurt any company.
Throughout our discussions, I quickly learned that inventory management could be a course of its
own. Companies need to strategically prevent inventory disasters, but also discover how their
management of inventory can be a competitive advantage. The correct amount of inventory is a
constant balancing act between maintaining a safety stock your company has determined while not
over ordering. Every order has its costs, so making frequent orders is not the easy way out. The
tool used to approach this task is known as the EOQ, or the economic order quantity. The goal of
the EOQ measurement is to find the inventory lot size at which the company should order. The only
two costs associated with this model are inventory holding costs and fixed costs allocated to an
order. While this model can help with the decision making, the assumptions made under it can make
it unreliable at times. Lead times and demand rates remaining constant are two of the assumptions
made that can vary on unexpected levels

Comparative Analysis of Vertigo, North by Northwest and Notorious by Alfred Hitchcock
The British master of suspense, Alfred Hitchcock, made the cinematographic history by the
unique auteur approach. His own vision of the story, uncommon manner of shooting, and
challenging ideas formed his style and made him recognizable. The genius of the 50 s and 60 s,
he provided the rich legacy for the future generations and set the pace for the directors all over the
world. This paper is going to trace the specific features of Alfred Hitchcock through the analysis of
three of his world known masterpieces, namely Vertigo, North by Northwest and Notorious. The
discussion of the films will be based on three cinematographic elements: genre, use of motifs, and
camera set ups.
Genre
Alfred Hitchcock is fairly referred to as the pioneer of the psychological thrillers. Though such
genre did not exist in the 50 s, it would soon be transformed from the so called suspense films
(Thompson 41). The director was obviously a true master of making his audience feel afraid and
anxious all his innovative techniques and auteur approach were directed to create a genuine feeling
of suspense. The genre always implied psychoanalytical elements as well as those of violence and
murders.
All the films under consideration make a good example of the plot including mystery and murders.
Presented in artistic visual form, they can be defined as the typical suspense films by Hitchcock. In
spite of different

Key trend and key success factor: Grilling is a popular event in US. Common reasons for

34. Animal Testing Animal Cruelty Essay
Is animal testing an experiment in cruelty?
Yes, because these poor animals being tested are always in pain and usually are never allowed to
know freedom like the Britain never gave us Americans the freedom we wanted until we won the
war where we began to give our own selves rules and freedom. No animal is safe from
experimentation, not even baby animals.
Animal tests do not reliably results in human beings. 94% of drugs that pass animal tests fail in
human clinical traits. I believe that this is true because there is a lot of animals that have different
traits than humans which most drugs used for them will NOT be able to succeed on humans. A
study in Archives of Toxicology stated that The law predictivity of animal experiments in research
areas allowing direct comparing sons of mouse vs. human data puts strong doubt on the usefulness
of animal data. I believe this may be true because you will figure out more medicines and drugs for
the world but you are still torturing these animals. These poor animals that have done nothing to us
are dieing because of our cruel ways towards them. According to neurologist Aysha Akhtar, MD,
MPH, over 100 stroke drugs that were effective when tested on animals have failed in humans. That
is definitely true because us humans have many traits that are way way different than animal traits
which makes me ask....why? Why do us humans keep doing this to these animals when most of our
many experiments don t work?

This is an Antiqua, British story where things are different, but really no different, than the
upbringing in rural United States. Born in the West Indian Island of Antigua, Kincaid admits
that her desire to write came while she was young, but it seemed like avocation that would elude
her because she knew so little about what it involved (ProQuest Learning, 1). Themes that
included things she had perhaps experienced personally. The poem stresses that the conditions
are so poor that mother must prepare her daughter for womanhood and to find a decent man. It
teaches her to cook certain baked goods and to be a good housekeeper. It alerts her to the not so
nice part of life, and that smiling at a person you dislike is not the same smile you render to a
person you really approve. Girl is rebellious and is reminded at every stop what to do and what
to not do. Mother thinks girl is hell bound and about to be a tramp, (slut). She feels that she may
never get one of the good boys if she acts in a certain way. Being a woman in poverty, her anger
seems to get the best of her in different ways. The voice of the poem gets harsh after a while. It
explores the things of today s taboo headlines such as abortion. This means, if the man girl choses
don t work out, there is a remedy for

43. The Difference between American and German Thinking
The way Germans and Americans think is totally opposite. Germans think deductively, and take a
scientific approach. On the other hand Americans tend to think inductively, they first form a goal
and figure out the details later. These styles but head because Germans often think of the American
approach as unrealistic. The negative side to the German thinking is that while are German is
planning an American may beat him to putting an item on the market. The Americans might not be
100 percent error free but they got the product out first. Communication styles are also very
different in the two countries. Americans do not like to disagree with one another. They hardly ever
tend to respond with firm answers and try to beat around the bush and try to politely tell someone
no. Germanslike to debate with each other when they are facing a problem. If a German disagrees
with you they will be sure that it is made know.
A difference between Germany and America is freedom vs. security. Americans believe in having
freedom even at the cost of sacrificing security. Germans on the other hand like to have security.
They like to be able to plan ahead for long periods of time. They find the fact that in the US a
person can be fired from their job for almost no reason at all very distressing. There is also a great
difference in freedom of speech in the two countries. For example in the US racist Nazi
propaganda would be legal where in Germany it is completely illegal. The American view is I

44. Automated External Defibrillator ( Aed )
AED Research 1. How does an AED work? Automated external defibrillator (AED) is a small
computerized device used to analyze heart rhythms and provide an electric shock, if needed, to
restore the normal electrical activity of patients heart. When a patient is suspected of having a
sudden cardiac arrest CPR is performed until an AED device is available. If the device is
available, when turning the machine on the voice of the device will guide the first responder
through the process. There are adhesive pads with electrodes sensors that are required to stick onto
the chest of the unconscious patient. Once the pads are stick onto the chest, the electrodes then
send information about the person s heart rhythm to the AED. The devices will then analyzes the
heart rhythm and determine if an electric shock is needed. Once the device detect that a shock is
needed the device will warn first responders to stand clear, then the machine will automatically
delivered the shock. If the person is still not breathing, continue on with CPR while the machine
recharge. Once the machine is ready it will again analyze the heart rhythms then provide an electric
shock. (U.S. Department of Health and Human Services [HHS], National Institutes of Health
[NIH], National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute [NHLBI], 2011). 2. What are the shockable
rhythms an AED recognizes and describe each? There are two shockable rhythms an AED is able
to recognize. The first shockable rhythms is ventricular

45. Reasonable Religious Disagreements Summary
In Reasonable Religious Disagreements, Feldman discusses the role of intolerance and relativism
in argumentation in regards to how epistemic peers who have a share of the same evidence
reasonably maintain their own belief, all the while, maintaining that the other party of the
disagreement is reasonable in their belief as well. This essay will concentrate on the benefits of
Feldman s observation and the benefits of critical thinking in argumentation as well as elaborate
on the main reason as to why people so desperately agree to disagree in relation to media coverage.
Feldman begins the introduction of his inquiry by identifying the importance of argumentation in
critical thinking and epistemology. He states, Epistemology is the abstract study of knowledge
and rationality. Critical thinking, as I understand it, is a kind of applied epistemology, the
underlying idea being that thinking clearly and carefully about any issue requires understanding
and applying some fundamental epistemological concepts (Feldman 1). He goes further to
describe arguments as tools for helping us figure out what it is most reasonable to believe
(Feldman 2). A good argument is an earnest exchange between different parties that are trying to
establish an agreeable conclusion. It is for this reason that agreeing to disagree is fallacious. In a
debate, the sole purpose is to challenge ideas and claims in order to come to the paramount and
most logical conclusion. The function of deliberation is

46. Importance Of Higher Education
Education is a key to a better and successful life. According to the article, Why is higher education
is important by Dr. Heather Allen, defines that higher education is education provided by
universities, college, and other institutions that award academic degrees. Higher education includes
both the undergraduate (i.e., college) and the graduate (or postgraduate) levels. Higher education
includes most professional educationand is strongly vocationally or professionally oriented. Hence,
higher education makes individuals much more intelligent than what they would be with just a high
schooleducation. The more intelligent an individual is, the better quality of life they are likely to
have. Higher education systems can very valuable because they provide individuals with life skills
that are essential to being successful in life. While studying at a higher education system, one is
forced to develop to essential time management skills much more so than at the high school level.
With the time needed for studying, attending classes, completing homework, so one needs to
manage their time in order to avoid falling out. These time management skills help individuals later
on in life. Another important life skill that individuals who attend higher education systems gain is
money management skills. Some higher education system students work part time jobs, but the
majority is unable to find the time to do so on top of their schoolwork, so the only money they
have for spending is
