Five Guys History
There are thousands of different fast food chains in the world. One of these chains is Five Guys, with
about 1,000 restaurants. One might think that this fast food place is just like the others, with meals
containing preservatives and chemicals, but this restaurant does prove itself worthy of praise. Five
Guys first began when the father of the four young Murrell brothers told them that they could either
start a business or go to college. ( About Us ) Jerry Murrell, the father, had learned how to cook by
cooking for a University of Michigan frat house. He admired the boardwalk fries at Ocean City, which
were always cooked right with high quality potato, peanut oil ... I thought a good hamburger and fry
place could make it. (Welch, How I Did It: Jerry Murrell, Five Guys Burgers and Fries ) And so, their
first restaurant opened in 1986 in Arlington, Virginia. The place was later named Five Guys after the
fact that it was started by five guys: the father and his four sons. ... Show more content on

H. T. R. Tolkien s The Fellowship Of The Ring
The Fellowship of the Ring begins with the passing on of a ring from Bilbo to Frodo, like a gold
watch being passed down from generation to generation. For a while, it was just like it was that kind
of gold watch until Gandalf finds it is much, much worse than the average family heirloom. Gandalf
suspected the ring was one of the many twenty Rings of Power. He cast the ring into the fire to
determine if his suspicion was right or wrong, and revealed that it was the One Ring and that plans
must be set for the long toil to make the peace of Middle Earth last. It took a long time to get to
Rivendell, all the while being chased and pursued by the most skilled, cunning, and surely deadliest of
all the Dark Lord s minions. Tolkien delicately and carefully crafted a detailed history, culture, lore
and language for each race of Middle Earth. A story behind the story is pointed at in little hints, almost
always throughout the Middle Earth related books. An excellent example was the reference to the long
history of Elrond. Another are the Ents who are like peaceful giants, but when their environment
(dense forests) is damaged, they become a non figurative expression of an angry orchard. The Hobbits
live an idyllic life in the Shire while the rest of Middle Earth is in total disarray in conflict. The Shire
seems to be a fluke, there by chance. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It brings the characters and songs to life because the narrator makes everything so much more
interesting. The speaking voice varies between people and allows the reader to develop a personal
relationship with each character. The best part is listening to the songs being sung because they bring
depth to the book that is missed when you read it (unless you make up a tune and sing it out loud
yourself). For a sample of the audio book, click this link:

Main Elements of a Contract
Main elements of a contract A contract is a written or verbal agreement made between two or more
parties in which the exchange of goods and/or services is agreed upon through unilateral or bilateral
exchange. A successful contract contains at least six key elements, which detail how this exchange or
exchanges will take place. A contract can also include details of how breach will be handled or details
about how the contract can be legally terminated. Furthermore, a contract can have several defenses
that will make it unenforceable by law. The six major elements of a contract are offer, acceptance,
objections, mutuality of obligation, and competency. In contracts, an offer specifies what goods and/or
services are going to be exchanged. An order can be defined as an expression of willingness to
contract on certain terms, made with the intention that [terms] shall become binding as soon as it is
accepted by the person to whom it is addressed (Treitel, 2007). As stated in the definition of offer, the
next step in creating a successful contract is acceptance. Acceptance can also be referred to as genuine
assent and requires that all parties partaking in a contract agree to the terms outlined in the offer.
Legally, all terms outlined in a contract cannot be transferred to a third party, nor can services be
subcontracted out to a third party unless there is a provision included in the contract that addresses
how these circumstances should be handled. Furthermore, all terms

Remote Minehunting System ( Rms ) Of Littoral Combat Ship
This paper examines Remote Minehunting System (RMS) of Littoral Combat Ship (LCS) in detail.
LCS is a fast platform designed for executing operations in near shore environments. But, it is capable
of conducting open ocean operation as well. It is designed to defeat asymmetric threats. Mines,
submarines and fast surface craft can be shown as unique examples of asymmetric threats. The LCS,
which is a fast, maneuverable surface ship, provides warfighting capabilities for tasks/missions
including mine warfare, anti submarine warfare (ASW) and anti surface warfare (ASUW). The RMS,
which will be deployed on LCS, is a component of the LCS Mine Countermeasures (MCM) mission
package (MP). The mission package is called the Remote Minehunting System. The system uses the
Remote Multimission Vehicle (RMMV). The RMMV vehicle is produced by Lockheed Martin. It
conducts autonomous and/or semi autonomous missions. It also carries AQS 20A minehunting sonar.
The sonar attached to RMMV is specifically designed for a variable depth forward looking and side
scanning under sea. Raytheon makes the AQS 20As. The RMS detects, classifies, and localizes non
buried bottom and moored mines. It also identifies shallow water bottom mines.
U.S. Navy plans to keep its ships out of the dangerous minefield with the RMS. Navy focuses on
decreasing core crew for mine warfare while conducting mine hunting operations as well. Navy
envisions that this concept with RMS on LCS will prove a significant force

Alligator Vs Crocodile Compare And Contrast
Alligator vs crocodile Many people get the Alligator and the Crocodile confused.Yes there are some
similarities but there is ways to tell the difference. Even though many people can not tell the
difference between the two there are many differences like the alligator has a little bit brighter color
on their skin. One of the main ways that you can tell an alligator and a crocodile apart is the nose or
the snout. On an alligator the nose of the animal is more of a u shape. Another way is the crocodile
teeth stick out of its mouth when its mouth is closed. They both have really sharp teeth and a lot of
power in their bite. The average length of a crocodile is a whopping 19 feet long. Compared to the

The Standardized Extract Of Ginkgo Biloba
The standardized extract of Ginkgo biloba EGb 761® is an herbal remedy, most extensively used for
dementia and cognitive impairment and it is one of the best classified extracts (DeFeudis FV, Drieu K.
2000). This standardized extract contains 24% flavanol hetrosides and 6% terpenes (ginkgolide
biolobalide) and is marketed in Europe as Rokan® and Tanakan® (Porsolt et al.,1990). Having a
lower molecular weight EGb 761 can cross blood brain barrier and produces various pharmacological
effects on central nervous system (DeFeudis FV, Drieu K. 2000). In recent studies it is seen that
Ginkgo biloba extract (120 600 mg) enhances to some extent many cognitive processes in healthy
young individuals as well as old aged individuals suffering from impaired cognition (Silberstein et al.,
2011). In spite of being easily tolerated it shows mild side effects in humans such as allergic reactions,
GIT disturbances, nausea, headache, dizziness, heart palpitation, restlessness, and weakness whereas
LD 50 ranging from 1100 7725 mg/kg body weight of mice or rats shows low acute toxicity (Frensin
et al., 2010) .
G. biloba extract has been known for enhancing the cerebral and peripheral blood flow (Winter, E.
1991) inhibiting corticosteroid synthesis to reduce stress (Marcilhac A et al., 1998), having
antioxidative and free radical scavenging properties (Guidetti et al., 2001), inhibiting aggregation of

America s Impact On The Planet Essay
As a species that continues to evolve and expand on this planet, humans have made many lasting
impacts to their home. Some of these changes often go generally unnoticed, such as the shift in
popular music, or fashion trends. Even transitions from job to job, or relocating to a new city seem to
weigh lightly on the general public. However, unbeknownst to us, we as a species have a far greater
impact on this planet than we would like to admit. Throughout our day to day lives we tend to
unknowingly impact and mold or future. It can be something as simple as forgetting to recycle that jug
of milk, or neglecting to clean up a spill after a self done oil change. Even the foods we eat and the
way we manufacture them have a lasting effect on the planet. Perhaps one of the more noticeable ways
we as a society affect the Earth though is how we build upon it. With much of the global population
centralized in urban areas, and there continued growth. It is interesting to observe the way in which
this urbanized land reacts to human interference. One of the more interesting aspects of urbanization is
the use and management of water. With the continued expansion of cities, and the modification of the
land in which these concrete jungles cover, changes to land are inevitable. In his book Urban Storm
Water Management, Hormoz Pazwash briefly summarizes some of the impacts urbanization has to
land, and water quality stating. Urban development alters the natural process of storm water runoff.

The Coop: Market Research Daryl Buckmeister was facing a difficult problem that many business
owners encounter. After much success, his quick service chicken restaurant, The Chicken Coop, was
seeing a sales decline in 20 of The Coop s 76 stores. The average decline in sales for these 20 stores
was 6%. His top two managers, Anita McMichael, VP of Quality and Trevor Wallace, VP of
Marketing, were working with Buckmeister to figure out why customers weren t spending as much
money in those stores and to determine the best way to correct this problem. There were three key
parts to Buckmeister s decision: (1) should he invest in market research, and if so, (2) how much

There exists the potential of using the results of the surveys to pay bonuses to everyone from line
employees to vice presidents. Such an incentive scheme could help focus employee attention on
quality and customer satisfaction issues. The purpose of these Customer Experience Studies would be
to gather information on how customers viewed their visits to The Coop restaurants. The program
would involve using an outside company, which would hire individuals to visit Coop restaurants and
the individual would have no knowledge of who was paying for the research. The cost of this would
be approximately $20 per visit, or a total of $45,600 for an entire year. While Wallace s ideas are
expensive, they will provide The Coop with the most in depth research. When offering
recommendations, one has much to consider. Primarily, while Buckmeister s ideas have some
potential to be effective, market research cannot be approached with the mindset of providing the
business with a quick and easy fix. To truly understand consumers, both of his options are not in depth
enough and contain too small of a sample size. I think that each of Buckmeister s ideas should be
implemented as they are both relatively inexpensive (focus groups and comment cards) but they must
be supplemented by a larger and more in depth form of market research. I believe that McMicheal s
suggestion of taste tests should be eliminated from consideration. Sales at The Coop are not

Saddle Bags Essay
Saddle bags are a great addition to your saddle. From its original leather material, saddle bags are now
made out of synthetic material. There are different kinds of Saddle bags that can fit your needs.
An important part of the equine track, since the first saddle was invented, is a saddle bag. It is a great
addition to your saddle. Since there are things that a person likes to carry with him, saddle bags are
good for:
* water bottles
* rain coat
* cell phones and others
Saddle bags are originally made from leather. At current, equine saddle bags are made out of synthetic
material. Examples of these synthetic materials include:
* Condura Nylon
* Canvas
Some nice looking saddle bags available have soft linings on the backside. An example of a soft lining
saddle bag is the Fleece. Soft lining bags are used in order to prevent the bag from chaffing your

Virtual Reality Is Defined As The World Wide Web
Virtual reality is defined as the electronic simulations of environments experienced through head
mounted goggles and wired clothing to enable the user to interact in realistic three dimensional
situations (Biocca). It has recently gained attention throughout the gaming subculture in the form of
the Oculus Rift, a new console that allows users to interact with a constructed 3D environment.
However, its potential does not end there. It is already being applied to provide hands on training for
surguries (http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC1356924/) and scientists are finding
applications for it in ocean and space exploration http://www.cnet.com/uk/news/spacevr wants to take
you aboard the international space station/
But what s more, virtual reality is increasingly referring to the enhancement of interpersonal
communication around the world on the same scale as the world wide web, an idea that has been
dubbed metaverse. The implementation of virtual reality in our daily lives on a massive scale has the
potential to change how we value. Is the full scale integration of virtual reality into our daily lives in
line with the philosophy of technological appropriateness? That is to say, upon reflection of our ends
and values, should we commit to the development of this technology for the purpose of changing our
lifestyles? Will the end result preserve diversity, promote benign interactions between humans, their
machines, and the biosphere, and will it promote human

1848 Women s Rights Convention Essay
Through out history, Americans have fought for the rights of freedom in their country, freedoms that
have been passed down through dozen s of generations. Freedom s such as religion, speech, press,
slavery and the right to vote. Americans, though very aware of their freedoms, often take them for
granted and forget the struggles that their ancestors went through to obtain them. One example of this
struggle is a woman s right to be treated and looked upon by the government as equals. This was not
an easy battle to win, and it took a strong few to begin to bring the struggle that women had faced for
centuries to an end.
The need for women s rights began back in colonial America where women were referred to as ...

Examples Of Assertiveness In Julius Caesar
Assertiveness
William Shakespeare wrote the Tragedy of Julius Caesar where he tells the story of: The ides of March
and the downfall of Julius Caesar, Marcus Brutus, and Gaius Cassius.
Marcus Brutus is known for participating in the assassination against Julius Caesar in the play: The
Tragedy of Julius Caesar. At the time, Rome was led by the mighty tyrant Julius Caesar, who had
returned victorious from battle against Pompey. Such people as Marcus Brutus and Gaius Cassius
Longinus were afraid that Caesar would not see fit as the crown of Rome and struck him from his life.
Caesar s right hand, Marc Antony stood up for Caesar s beliefs and hunted the conspirators down, and
returned the favor.
In The Tragedy of Julius Caesar by William Shakespeare, Marcus Brutus is an example of
assertiveness where he rather would choose his 0wn opinions over his fellow conspirators.
Throughout the text, there are different areas where assertiveness is being used. (62 65, I, I, 827)
Into what dangers would you lead me, Cassius, That you would have me seek into myself for that
which is not in me In the translation of modern language, this quote would be translated into: What
kind of danger could you lead me into Cassius? That I don t already have inside me or around me.
Brutus is telling Cassius, during the scenario. Caesar has risen to power, and Cassius fears that this
power will lead to the downfall of Rome, therefor an assassination attempt must be made.Brutus is

The Lament Of The Queen Of Sweden
The Lament of the Queen of Sweden
Luigi Rossi was employed in the Borghese court in Rome in 1620. The seventeenth century in Rome
marked an increase in the level of musical productivity. Some of the finest musicians including
Frescobaldi, Marlo Mazzocchi, Savioni and Carissimi were active in Rome at this time. Another
incredibly important patron of Rossi was Antonio Barberini who was very impressed by Rossi s
works. Rossi s music circulated in France in the early 1640s as well. In 1641, Ottavio Castelli sent
Cardinal Richelieu a copy of Ferito un cavaliere, (a Wounded Knight) recommending it to Jules
Mazarin. This piece was composed by Rossi as a lament of the Queen of Sweden set to a text by Fabio
della Corgna, where the Queen Maria Eleanora ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Musically, the piece employs the use of a ground bass the descending tetra chord which had by this
time begun to be associated almost exclusively with the lament. The spiraling and constant downward
motion of the ground bass with the repetitive harmonies of the frustrated cadence became so strongly
associated with the genre of laments that the use of heightened rhetoric or further embellishments was
not necessary for the despair and the intense emotions of the lament to be heard and identified. The
ground bass alone became the fundamental basis of laments. Lamento del la Regina di Suezia in
particular is set as versi sciolti recitative form throughout the entire piece. It is similar to Barbara
Strozzi s lament Lagrime mie in that both pieces have a musical and textual refrain. The refrain of the
Queen of Sweden lament seems to be the most emotionally charged lines of the piece whereby she
sings in a sort of emotional frenzy Give me someone, for pity s sake, who will kill me! (datemi per
pietade un che m uccida) The music of the refrain also corresponds with the emotions using affective
dissonances The idea that the queen wishes for someone to kill her rather than live in a world without
her King husband is an indicator of how distraught and hysterical she had become and hints at her
mental instability in the period after his death. The lament itself is moving and effective. As rage
overcomes the queen at the injustice of Gustavus death she implores the people to take up arms and
submerge the earth in torrents of blood, may every town be torched at your hands, may every province
burn, kill, wound, do not spare the wicked ones in order to avenge his death. The music changes to
highlight her rage and then her incessant despair appropriately matching her tone lending a unique air

Compare And Contrast Dracula And Parable Of The Sower
Similarly to Dracula, in Parable of the Sower, Lauren is initially condescended by more dominant
males, including her father, Harry, Bankhole, and Travis. Her religion has not taken full form and she
cannot yet present it in a compelling and coherent manner to convince people to join her community.
She is somewhat fantastical about venturing beyond her housing wall and fully forming her religion.
She literally lives surrounded by walls, symbolizing a cave that shields her from all that the outside
world has to offer. Even if the exterior of the wall only presents her with danger, violence, and a
crumbling society, it is reality and a dangerous reality is safer than the illusion of safety. Once she is
forced to exist and live on her own, she structures Earthseed, her religion, and becomes able to fend
for herself. Parable of the Sower takes place in a dystopian california in the not too distant future. At
first, Lauren resides in the relative safety of a walled community of eleven homes, but her community
is burned to the ground and she is forced to undergo a change. As she enters the real world and leaves
her home, she gains knowledge and knowledge is powerful. Her change is apparent in both her actions
and excerpts from her religion. Lauren exclaims, There has to be more that we can do, a better destiny
that we can shape. Another place. Another way. Something! (151). Here, she haphazardly searches for
something. She cannot even identify what she is looking for. Her desires are unclear and she presents
them immaturely. It is a very youthful manner in trying to solve problems; irrationally looking for
something, anything, to help, but refusing to step back and analyze the situation in a methodical way
to discover what actually needs to be done. She had dreams of moving north, but never actually
implemented or underwent a plan to relocate to a better living condition. Logging accounts of the
annihilation of her neighborhood, lauren writes, Last night, when I escaped from the neighborhood, it
was burning. The houses, the trees, the people: burning (153). She is then forced to escape and
develop a new life. She approaches her trip in a very practical manner, taking note of her funds, food

more temperate shows that he is saying she is perfect and constantly exquisite . The word darling
gives the poem an affectionate tone. Shakespeare is also writing to show off his writing skills, this is
shown in the last line when he says, So long lives this and this gives live to thee , because he says his
writing will live on forever. It is also written to give his loved one a reminder of mortality. Nor shall
death brag is the reminder of death and it is personified because it implies death can t take her.
The purposes of Let Me Not were to flatter Shakespeare s loved one, remind his beloved of mortality,
define love and to show how love is threatened by other things. Romantic flattery is shown when
Shakespeare says, rosie lips and cheeks , it is also describing his beloved. The reminder of death is
shown when the poem says, edge of doome ; this is even more effective than just death because it is
describing love until the end of the world. The edge of doome also defines love and pontificates it to
the end of time. Let Me Not is an imperative because it is a strong

The Case Morse Vs. Frederick
In the case Morse Vs. Frederick, a supreme court case that questioned the first amendment, the main
argument set out by Frederick was that the school s principal, Morse, was that Morse violated
Fredericks first amendment right. Juneau Douglas High School was in session during the Olympic
Torch Relay for the 2002 winter Olympics. The school decided that it would let its students and
faculty out for a short period to watch as the torchbearers passed the school. This was considered a
school event and was treated as a field trip. Joseph Frederick was a senior at JDHS. He was a bit late
coming to school that day. When Frederick arrived to school during the event, he met up with some of
his friends. They soon pulled out fourteen foot banner that had the phrase: BONG HiTS 4 JESUS .
The school s principal, Deborah Morse, almost immediately told the students to take down the banner.
All but one student complied with Morse. That student was Joseph Frederick. She told the boys to take
the sign down because she believed that the sign was encouraging the use of illegal drugs in school.
She told Frederick to report to her office where she later punished him by suspending him for ten
days. Frederick believed that his constitutional rights were being denied and that the first amendment
was violated in the process. Frederick sued Morse claiming that the school violated his first
amendment. Morse explained that she was not violating the first amendment because the school has a

I Have A Dream Speech Outline
I Have a Dream was a pivotal speech delivered by the Reverend Martin Luther King, Jr. on August 28,
1963. 250,000 civil rights supporters attended the March on Washington where the speech was
delivered at the steps of the Lincoln Memorial. The peaceful demonstration was organized at the heels
of President Kennedy s proposal of civil rights legislation earlier in June 1963. Since 1960, Dr. King
had presented several different versions of his Dream speech, but his delivery of the speech that day
would be the last version and subsequently became copyrighted material. I Have a Dream was
delivered 100 years after the Emancipation Proclamation in 1863. Dr. King s belief was African
Americans were still not free 100 years later. His speech spoke of blacks and whites living peacefully
together in society, seeking an end to violence, expanding voting rights for blacks, and called for ...

King began his speech that the day would go down in history as the greatest demonstration for
freedom. What he didn t know was his speech would go down in history as well as the greatest speech
of the 20th century. But, how impactful was his speech and did Dr. King s dream get fulfilled? Dr.
King was violently targeted over his pursue of civil rights which spanned from 1955 until he was
assassinated in 1968. Some of the civil rights accomplishments since August 28, 1963, are the passage
of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 that outlawed discrimination based on race, color, religion, sex, or
national origin; the Voting Act of 1965 that prohibited unequal application of voter registration
requirements; the Fair Housing Act of 1968; and ending racial segregation in schools, employment,
and public accommodations. He was voted Time s Man of the Year in 1963 and received the Nobel

Atomic Bombs And Its Effects On The World s Top Scientists
In the morning of July 16, 1945, the very first nuclear explosion took place in Alamogordo, New
Mexico. This one very specific explosion was the first test of the most damaging weapon ever known
to man. These explosive devices took almost six years to research and develop. It took a team of hand
selected of the world s top scientists. This collaboration was famously known as the Manhattan
Project. Less than a month after the test, President Truman dropped two nuclear bombs on Japan.
These weapons were dropped only three days apart. The aftermath was so crucial it made the Japanese
finally to surrender.
Before there was the aspect of nuclear bombs people destroyed each other at each other stuff using
conventional bombs. Casing full of explosives like Trinitrotoluene or known as TNT or ammonium
nitrate. When they are detonated, conventional bombs created most of their energy in the form of a
blast. This blast can go faster than the speed of sound. But imagine if uranium, plutonium, or even a
hydrogen bomb was detonated. It would create a huge mushroom cloud with a vast number
radioactive rays passing through destroying everything in the path.

The Realization Of Doublethink In 1984 By George Orwell
IGNORANCE IS STRENGTH is one of the party s key phrases. This means that having uneducated,
oblivious people, contributes to the power of the party. The citizens of Oceania must believe
everything the government tells them in order to be controlled. People who refuse to believe these lies,
or try to let people know the truth, are considered enemies of the party. This is considered
thoughtcrime, and anyone who is found guilty is subject to vaporization , and will never be seen again.
In 1984, George Orwell uses characterization of the protagonists, Winston and Julia, and plot to
explain how in a society built upon countless lies, it is a crime to think or spread the truth. The
character construction of Winston Smith is based around his thoughts of truth and conspiracy. He tries
to practice doublethink, but is often unsuccessful. If you want to keep a secret, you must also hide it
from yourself. (Orwell 283). This is a thought of Winston Smith near the end of the book. This
describes the thought process of doublethink, and how one must hide their true thoughts from
themself. When Winston is done being tortured, he begins to hide the truth from himself. Life, if you
looked about you, bore no resemblance not only to the lies that streamed out of the telescreens, but
even to the ideals that the Party was trying to achieve. (Orwell 74). Winston has this thought while
considering whether the proles could ever rebel. This passage is a description of the contrast

The Gas Mask
Production Of The Gas Mask In World War 1 And How It sIts Evolved Since The production of the

highly unprepared. The soldiers had a total of four breaths to figure out how they were going to escape
the toxic gases, At first nNobody knew what was going on, which, in return, made the soldiers react
fast to save their lives. The war influenced the masks in many different ways. Now, before the modern
mask that people know so well was created and finalized , the gases used against the troops had to be

The Gps Technology
THE GPS TECHNOLOGY INTRODUCTION Throughout time people have developed a variety of
ways to figure out their position on earth and to navigate from one place to another. Early mariners
relied on angular measurements to celestial bodies like sun and stars to calculate their location. The
1920s witnessed the introduction of more advanced technique radio navigation based at first on radios
that allowed navigators to locate the direction of shore based transmitters when in range. Later
development of artificial satellites made possible the transmission of more precise, line of sight radio
navigation signals and sparked a new era in navigation technology. Satellites are first used in position
finding in a simple but reliable 2D Navy ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The satellite signals are further processed by data processor of the navigation set to demodulate the
data and then decode it to get the user s 3D position coordinates. The GPS receivers are used for
navigation, positioning, aviation, shipping, geology and other purposes. WORKING Consider the case
of a lightning followed by a thunder. A few seconds after seeing the lightning we hear the thunder. If
we know the time taken for the sound waves to travel from the lightning place to the listener, we can
calculate the distance between the listener and the lightning place. Similar principle is used in the
working of GPS. The GPS system works by determining how long it takes a radio signal transmitted
from a satellite to reach a land based receiver and then, using that time to calculate the distance
between the satellite and the Earth station receiver. Radio waves travel at approximately the speed of
light, 3x108 m/s. if a receiver can determine exactly when a satellite began sending a radio signal and
exactly when the signal was received, then it can determine the propagation time. From propagation
time, the receiver can determine the distance between it and the satellite using the mathematical
relationship d = v × t Where d =

Essay on Ghost Story of the New Jersey Devil
The New Jersey Devil
The Legend of the Jersey Devil is the most prominent legend that is told to citizens of New Jersey; it
is mainly told to elementary school aged children. There are a variety of settings that the story has;
however, the most common location that is used when retelling the tale is Leeds Point, NJ, which is in
the Pine Barrens region of the state. This tale of the Jersey Devil recounts the existence of a
supernatural creature that is said to have terrorized the New Jersey Pine Barrens and surrounding areas
for the last 260 years. The teller of this version of the legend is a Caucasian female who is eighteen
years of age and attends the University of Maryland. She comes from a middle class family and

After a few months of being confined to the basement, the devil flapped its wings and flew out the
chimney, and the Shrouds family never saw it again. People s animals started to disappear, and they
blamed the devil for it. They said that it started to kill and eat the flocks. Some people even said that
the Jersey Devil would terrorize little children because it was jealous it could never be a normal child.
Ever since then, the devil has been spotted in different places in the New Jersey Pine Barrens, making
that same screaming noise.
There exist many different types of storylines about the New Jersey Devil. Despite these
discrepancies, most of the versions have the name Leeds involved. For example, in the version that I
collected, Mrs. Shrouds lived in Leeds Point; however, in other forms of this story, the woman s name
was Mrs. Leeds. Most tales of the New Jersey Devil involve this woman who had one too many
children and placed a cursed on her unborn child. This tale also ties into the study of magic since the
mother of the Jersey Devil cursed her unborn child, causing it to be born as the deformed creature that
it is known to be today. In some cases, as in the story described above, numerological superstition
plays a roll and the devil is the thirteenth child, while other versions maintain that the child was
actually the sixth or seventh to be born into the family. Another account of the origin of the

Furthermore, I expect that REITs use relatively less debt for financing, because of the relatively higher
cost of debt.
Already in 1958, Modigliani and Miller have pointed the discussion of capital structure towards the
cost of debt and equity. According to their first proposition, in a world of no corporate taxes and with
perfect markets, financial leverage has no effect on a firm s value. In their second proposition, they
state that the cost of equity equals a linear function defined by the required return on assets and the
cost of debt (Modigliani and Miller, 1958).
As negative aspects of debt, e.g. personal tax loss and bankruptcy costs however do exist in reality,
Miller (1977) elaborates that leverage will either have no or a negative effect on the firm s value,
hence untaxed firms should favor equity.
Nevertheless, firms have used leverage even before corporate taxes have been introduced (Maris and
Elayan, 1990). This implies the existence of some market imperfections, which benefit the use of debt
financing, thus enable a trade off of the cost and benefits of debt resulting in an optimal capital
structure, where marginal cost equal marginal benefits.
In general, the majority of existing research is set up by taking the security issuance choice as the
dependent variable and then tests empirically for determinants based on data from one type of
companies. It needs to be taken into consideration that security issue decision and capital

The Trolley Problem Of The Monist
Judith Jarvis Thomson presents an ethical dilemma entitled The Trolley Problem in The Monist. The
problem describes a situation in which a trolley car is moving quickly and out of control on a train
track towards five people who are tied to the tracks; you have the power to pull a lever, change the
direction of the trolley car and save those five people at the expense of the life of one person who is on
the track the car was diverted to (Thomson 1397). The choice to be made is not just about whether or
not one should pull the lever though. The problem dictates a choice about whether one would kill, in
the case of choosing to pull the lever to kill the one person and save the five, or letting die, in which
case nothing is done and the five are killed because of the lack of action taken (Thomson 1398).
Thomson believes it would be incorrect to turn the trolley and willingly choose to kill one person,
rather than allow the five to die, but the philosophies of Immanuel Kant and John Stewart Mill must
be analyzed to determine whether they would agree with Thomson, or have a different view from
Thomson as well as one another. When considering J.J. Thomson s Trolley Problem, the philosophies
of Kant and Mill must be fully analyzed and expressed to determine the most plausible perspective to
be taken by both philosophers on the issue. There are strengths, weaknesses and criticisms of both
ethical arguments, and these will be considered as well in the analysis. The ethical

The Debate Over Same Sex Marriage
Dissenting Rhetoric On June 26, 2015, same sex marriage was legalized across the united states, due
to a decision the Supreme Court made; the decision made all state level bans on same sex marriage
were considered unconstitutional, thus overruling the bans. In the dissenting argument on the Supreme
Court s Decision to legalize same sex couple marriage, Chief Justice Roberts makes a passionate
argument revolving around the fact that it was the Supreme Court that made the decision and not the
Country. Chief Justice Roberts shows his emotional look on the decision throughout the dissenting
argument. During the dissenting article his frustration and anger grows during the moments where his
personality was shown through. In the argument, Roberts stated, Many people will rejoice, and I
begrudge none their celebration. But for those who believe in a government of laws, not men, the
majority s approach is deeply disheartening (Roberts 2). Roberts is showing though his own emotional
outlook that he is not upset nor disappointed in the decision to allow same sex marriage, but
disappointed that the Supreme Court of nine people was allowed to make a decision for a country of
fifty states. His disappointment continues, Roberts ends the dissenting argument with a last thought,
Celebrate the availability of new benefits. But do not celebrate the Constitution. It had nothing to do
with it. I respectfully dissent (29). Roberts shows his anger at the decision, that the choice was

Gun Control Restrictions
The United States has 88.8 guns per 100 people, which is the highest total in the world. The guns was
first intended for hunting and self protection. Later on, it was brought into the military for use. For that
reason, people believe that guns can only be used in the military. Others say that the Second
Amendment gives them the right to have guns and use it for protection. This was for if any person
tried to attack them, they would have protection with them at all times. Later on, guns got used for the
wrongs reasons. More crimes were being develop, like the assassination of President John F. Kennedy.
Now, people want more restrictions on gun ownership and how it should be used. If some restrictions
were to be made, some say it will not make much of a difference. Guns use had lead to violence in the
past, but also it coud be a good protection for humans against attackers. The argument that may still be
going on today is if the United States should put more restrictions on gun ownership and use. The
reasons why people are still asking for more restrictions is because more crimes and shooting as been
happening lately. There were about 126 mass shootings around 2001 to 2014. The opponents of this
issue think that if more restrictions were made, that would not change the fact that there would be as
much shootings as there was. Reasons to believe this was that even with more restrictions, shootings
would still go on. Nothing would stop the criminals from killing others. Now,

What Would Happen if the New T shirt Market Operated as a Free Market? The producers in the new
T shirt value chain do not operate in a free market system. Government protectionist measures such as
subsidies, quotas, and tariffs have limited economic success to a fortunate few. According to the
author Pietra Rivoli, the winners at various stages of my T shirt s life are adept not so much at
competing in markets but at avoiding them. These winners include the U.S. cotton farmer and the
China apparel industry. Their market dominance and profitability have benefitted significantly from
the political prowess of their government to limit competition. If government intervention was
removed from all segments of the new T shirt value ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, this transition will be gradual given the U.S farmers advantage in producing more yields per
acre and higher grade cotton. With the elimination of U.S. government subsidies, cotton textile
manufacturers will pay more for cotton. As the leading buyer of cotton, the Chinese apparel industry s
profitability will be reduced due to their inability to pass on increased cotton prices to their buyers.
China s manufacturing costs had already increased by as much as 40% due to higher market wages
and costs with complying with worker and environmental protections. Although China has substantial
labor and is accused of utilizing sweat shops to keep their costs extremely low, their increasing
manufacturing costs have opened the door to other countries with cheap labor such as Vietnam and
Pakistan. Although the Chinese apparel manufacturers would lose profitability due to rising cotton
prices and competition from emerging countries, they stand to gain the most from the removal of U.S.
quotas and tariffs. According to the author, in 2007, 95% of the 20 billion garments Americans made
were purchased overseas. Due to U.S. trade barriers, China s share of the U.S. apparel import was only
30%. Once these barriers were removed, Chinese apparel would flood the American market due to
their low cost and dominance in garment manufacturing. Experts predict that China could eventually
supply 85% of U.S. apparel. As they increase their market share in the

The Power Of Parliament And Parliamentary Sovereignty
Prior to the English Civil War and Glorious Revolution the Crown acted outside Parliament, causing
there to be a struggle for power between the King, the Courts and the Parliament in the 17th Century.
Eventually the Courts and Parliament defeated the power of the King and Parliamentary Sovereignty
emerged. Parliamentary sovereignty holds that parliament has absolute sovereignty it is the supreme
law maker over all other government institutions. There are no legal limitations on the legislative
competence of Parliament and no person is allowed to override or set aside the law of Parliament. R
(on the application of Jackson) v AG (2005) shows that the definition of an Act of Parliament differs
according to whether it has been passed with consent of House of Commons and Lords or just the
House of Commons. The courts have the power to decide if a document is an Act of Parliament. In
this case they found that the Parliament Act 1949 and the Hunting Act 2004 were passed under
procedure laid down by Parliament Act 1949 and are valid statutes. For Dicey, it was the very
keystone of the law of the constitution that Parliament is the sovereign or supreme legislative authority
in the state. He defined Parliamentary Sovereignty as The principle of Parliamentary sovereignty
means neither more nor less than this, namely, that Parliament has, under the English constitution, the
right to make or unmake any law whatever; and, further, that no person or body is recognised by

Marine Contamination and Pollution Essay
Marine Contamination and Pollution According to the United Nations Joint Group of Experts on the
Scientific Aspects of Marine Pollution (GESAMP) of 1972, marine pollution is ?the introduction by
man directly or indirectly, of substances or energy to the marine environment resulting in deleterious
effects such as harm to living resources, hazards to human health; hindrance of marine activities
including fishing, impairing the quality for use of sea water, and reduction of amenities?(Clark 3).
Since the beginning of modern civilization, man has continuously polluted the oceans. As more and
more pollution entered the Earth?s oceans and problems became evident, man has been given the
obligation to prevent further damage. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Marine debris consists of discarded plastic, glass, and metal that does not easily decompose. Some
debris such as abandoned ships and old cars that sink attract fish because they form artificial reefs.
Some artificial reefs have been purposely made by humans out of sinking marine debris for the sole
purpose of providing sea life with an ecosystem. The pollution problem is more centered around
floating marine debris such as plastic. Because plastic floats it constitutes a threat to sea birds and
mammals who either eat it or become entangled in it. Each year 30,000 northern fur seals as well as
hundreds of thousands of other marine animals die due to being entangled in discarded
plastic(Johnston 63). These plastics when eaten can lodge in the intestines and stomach to block the
digestive tract to cause malnutrition and death. Not only does marine debris effect sea life, but humans
as well. Marine debris interferes with ship navigation and litters beaches along coastal water. Toxic
chemicals are extremely hazardous to the oceans. Three of the most deadly chemicals are constantly
running off land into water. These chemicals; DDT, PCBs, and dioxins belong to a family of industrial
and agricultural chemicals that do not brake down easily in our environment. When these chemicals
enter the ocean they are first absorbed by phytoplankton and zooplankton. These planktons are an
important part of a fish?s diet, therefore; fish eat

  • 2. Five Guys History There are thousands of different fast food chains in the world. One of these chains is Five Guys, with about 1,000 restaurants. One might think that this fast food place is just like the others, with meals containing preservatives and chemicals, but this restaurant does prove itself worthy of praise. Five Guys first began when the father of the four young Murrell brothers told them that they could either start a business or go to college. ( About Us ) Jerry Murrell, the father, had learned how to cook by cooking for a University of Michigan frat house. He admired the boardwalk fries at Ocean City, which were always cooked right with high quality potato, peanut oil ... I thought a good hamburger and fry place could make it. (Welch, How I Did It: Jerry Murrell, Five Guys Burgers and Fries ) And so, their first restaurant opened in 1986 in Arlington, Virginia. The place was later named Five Guys after the fact that it was started by five guys: the father and his four sons. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 3. H. T. R. Tolkien s The Fellowship Of The Ring The Fellowship of the Ring begins with the passing on of a ring from Bilbo to Frodo, like a gold watch being passed down from generation to generation. For a while, it was just like it was that kind of gold watch until Gandalf finds it is much, much worse than the average family heirloom. Gandalf suspected the ring was one of the many twenty Rings of Power. He cast the ring into the fire to determine if his suspicion was right or wrong, and revealed that it was the One Ring and that plans must be set for the long toil to make the peace of Middle Earth last. It took a long time to get to Rivendell, all the while being chased and pursued by the most skilled, cunning, and surely deadliest of all the Dark Lord s minions. Tolkien delicately and carefully crafted a detailed history, culture, lore and language for each race of Middle Earth. A story behind the story is pointed at in little hints, almost always throughout the Middle Earth related books. An excellent example was the reference to the long history of Elrond. Another are the Ents who are like peaceful giants, but when their environment (dense forests) is damaged, they become a non figurative expression of an angry orchard. The Hobbits live an idyllic life in the Shire while the rest of Middle Earth is in total disarray in conflict. The Shire seems to be a fluke, there by chance. ... The speaking voice varies between people and allows the reader to develop a personal relationship with each character. • 4. Main Elements of a Contract Main elements of a contract A contract is a written or verbal agreement made between two or more parties in which the exchange of goods and/or services is agreed upon through unilateral or bilateral exchange. A successful contract contains at least six key elements, which detail how this exchange or exchanges will take place. A contract can also include details of how breach will be handled or details about how the contract can be legally terminated. Furthermore, a contract can have several defenses that will make it unenforceable by law. The six major elements of a contract are offer, acceptance, objections, mutuality of obligation, and competency. In contracts, an offer specifies what goods and/or services are going to be exchanged. An order can be defined as an expression of willingness to contract on certain terms, made with the intention that [terms] shall become binding as soon as it is accepted by the person to whom it is addressed (Treitel, 2007). As stated in the definition of offer, the next step in creating a successful contract is acceptance. • 5. Remote Minehunting System ( Rms ) Of Littoral Combat Ship This paper examines Remote Minehunting System (RMS) of Littoral Combat Ship (LCS) in detail. LCS is a fast platform designed for executing operations in near shore environments. But, it is capable of conducting open ocean operation as well. It is designed to defeat asymmetric threats. Mines, submarines and fast surface craft can be shown as unique examples of asymmetric threats. The LCS, which is a fast, maneuverable surface ship, provides warfighting capabilities for tasks/missions including mine warfare, anti submarine warfare (ASW) and anti surface warfare (ASUW). The RMS, which will be deployed on LCS, is a component of the LCS Mine Countermeasures (MCM) mission package (MP). The mission package is called the Remote Minehunting System. The system uses the Remote Multimission Vehicle (RMMV). The RMMV vehicle is produced by Lockheed Martin. It conducts autonomous and/or semi autonomous missions. It also carries AQS 20A minehunting sonar. The sonar attached to RMMV is specifically designed for a variable depth forward looking and side scanning under sea. Raytheon makes the AQS 20As. The RMS detects, classifies, and localizes non buried bottom and moored mines. It also identifies shallow water bottom mines. U.S. Navy plans to keep its ships out of the dangerous minefield with the RMS. Navy focuses on decreasing core crew for mine warfare while conducting mine hunting operations as well. Some of these changes often go generally unnoticed, such as the shift in popular music, or fashion trends. Even transitions from job to job, or relocating to a new city seem to weigh lightly on the general public. However, unbeknownst to us, we as a species have a far greater impact on this planet than we would like to admit. Throughout our day to day lives we tend to unknowingly impact and mold or future. It can be something as simple as forgetting to recycle that jug of milk, or neglecting to clean up a spill after a self done oil change. Even the foods we eat and the way we manufacture them have a lasting effect on the planet. Perhaps one of the more noticeable ways we as a society affect the Earth though is how we build upon it. With much of the global population centralized in urban areas, and there continued growth. It is interesting to observe the way in which this urbanized land reacts to human interference. One of the more interesting aspects of urbanization is the use and management of water. With the continued expansion of cities, and the modification of the land in which these concrete jungles cover, changes to land are inevitable. In his book Urban Storm Water Management, Hormoz Pazwash briefly summarizes some of the impacts urbanization has to land, and water quality stating. Some of the finest musicians including Frescobaldi, Marlo Mazzocchi, Savioni and Carissimi were active in Rome at this time. Another incredibly important patron of Rossi was Antonio Barberini who was very impressed by Rossi s works. Rossi s music circulated in France in the early 1640s as well. In 1641, Ottavio Castelli sent Cardinal Richelieu a copy of Ferito un cavaliere, (a Wounded Knight) recommending it to Jules Mazarin. Musically, the piece employs the use of a ground bass the descending tetra chord which had by this time begun to be associated almost exclusively with the lament. The spiraling and constant downward motion of the ground bass with the repetitive harmonies of the frustrated cadence became so strongly associated with the genre of laments that the use of heightened rhetoric or further embellishments was not necessary for the despair and the intense emotions of the lament to be heard and identified. The ground bass alone became the fundamental basis of laments. Lamento del la Regina di Suezia in particular is set as versi sciolti recitative form throughout the entire piece. It is similar to Barbara Strozzi s lament Lagrime mie in that both pieces have a musical and textual refrain. The refrain of the Queen of Sweden lament seems to be the most emotionally charged lines of the piece whereby she sings in a sort of emotional frenzy Give me someone, for pity s sake, who will kill me! (datemi per pietade un che m uccida) The music of the refrain also corresponds with the emotions using affective dissonances The idea that the queen wishes for someone to kill her rather than live in a world without her King husband is an indicator of how distraught and hysterical she had become and hints at her mental instability in the period after his death. The lament itself is moving and effective. As rage overcomes the queen at the injustice of Gustavus death she implores the people to take up arms and submerge the earth in torrents of blood, may every town be torched at your hands, may every province burn, kill, wound, do not spare the wicked ones in order to avenge his death. This means that having uneducated, oblivious people, contributes to the power of the party. The citizens of Oceania must believe everything the government tells them in order to be controlled. People who refuse to believe these lies, or try to let people know the truth, are considered enemies of the party. This is considered thoughtcrime, and anyone who is found guilty is subject to vaporization , and will never be seen again. This describes the thought process of doublethink, and how one must hide their true thoughts from themself. When Winston is done being tortured, he begins to hide the truth from himself. Life, if you looked about you, bore no resemblance not only to the lies that streamed out of the telescreens, but even to the ideals that the Party was trying to achieve. (Orwell 74). Early mariners relied on angular measurements to celestial bodies like sun and stars to calculate their location. The 1920s witnessed the introduction of more advanced technique radio navigation based at first on radios that allowed navigators to locate the direction of shore based transmitters when in range. Later development of artificial satellites made possible the transmission of more precise, line of sight radio navigation signals and sparked a new era in navigation technology. A few seconds after seeing the lightning we hear the thunder. If we know the time taken for the sound waves to travel from the lightning place to the listener, we can calculate the distance between the listener and the lightning place. Similar principle is used in the working of GPS. The GPS system works by determining how long it takes a radio signal transmitted from a satellite to reach a land based receiver and then, using that time to calculate the distance between the satellite and the Earth station receiver. Radio waves travel at approximately the speed of light, 3x108 m/s. if a receiver can determine exactly when a satellite began sending a radio signal and exactly when the signal was received, then it can determine the propagation time. Already in 1958, Modigliani and Miller have pointed the discussion of capital structure towards the cost of debt and equity. According to their first proposition, in a world of no corporate taxes and with perfect markets, financial leverage has no effect on a firm s value. In their second proposition, they state that the cost of equity equals a linear function defined by the required return on assets and the cost of debt (Modigliani and Miller, 1958). As negative aspects of debt, e.g. personal tax loss and bankruptcy costs however do exist in reality, Miller (1977) elaborates that leverage will either have no or a negative effect on the firm s value, hence untaxed firms should favor equity. Nevertheless, firms have used leverage even before corporate taxes have been introduced (Maris and

  • 35. The Trolley Problem Of The Monist Judith Jarvis Thomson presents an ethical dilemma entitled The Trolley Problem in The Monist. The problem describes a situation in which a trolley car is moving quickly and out of control on a train track towards five people who are tied to the tracks; you have the power to pull a lever, change the direction of the trolley car and save those five people at the expense of the life of one person who is on the track the car was diverted to (Thomson 1397). The choice to be made is not just about whether or not one should pull the lever though. The problem dictates a choice about whether one would kill, in the case of choosing to pull the lever to kill the one person and save the five, or letting die, in which case nothing is done and the five are killed because of the lack of action taken (Thomson 1398). Thomson believes it would be incorrect to turn the trolley and willingly choose to kill one person, rather than allow the five to die, but the philosophies of Immanuel Kant and John Stewart Mill must be analyzed to determine whether they would agree with Thomson, or have a different view from Thomson as well as one another. When considering J.J. Thomson s Trolley Problem, the philosophies of Kant and Mill must be fully analyzed and expressed to determine the most plausible perspective to be taken by both philosophers on the issue. There are strengths, weaknesses and criticisms of both ethical arguments, and these will be considered as well in the analysis. The ethical ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Parliamentary sovereignty holds that parliament has absolute sovereignty it is the supreme law maker over all other government institutions. There are no legal limitations on the legislative competence of Parliament and no person is allowed to override or set aside the law of Parliament. The pollution problem is more centered around floating marine debris such as plastic. Because plastic floats it constitutes a threat to sea birds and mammals who either eat it or become entangled in it. Each year 30,000 northern fur seals as well as hundreds of thousands of other marine animals die due to being entangled in discarded plastic(Johnston 63).
