Ipsec And Ssl Protocols ( Vpn )
Abstract: As the development of computers, smart phones and tablets, more and more equipment
are connected to the Internet. Virtual Private Network, which establishes private network over
public network has made work and life much easier for people. IPSec and SSL/TLS protocols,
which provide security services, are widely used for VPN. In this paper, I ll learn the details of
IPSecand TLS/SSL protocols and provide an analysis and comparison of them.
I.Introduction
Virtual Private Network (VPN) comes to my sight by chance due to China s great firewall blocked
my access to Gmail when I stayed in China last summer. To visit the blocked websites, one of
solutions is using VPN technology.
VPN is referred to set up a private network across a public network and usually can be classified
by three types: [1] Remote Access Type, which can establish a connection between a client outside
and a company s internal resources, Extranet Type, which connects different resources in different
networks, and Intranet Type, which creates a connection between different resources within one
network. The working theory of VPN can be briefly explained by a simple example including
several steps:
Node A in Network I want to communicate to Node B in Network II via public network.
1. Since A wants to communicate with B, A will generate and send a packet whose destination IP
is B s IP address in Network II.
2. The gateway of Network I gets A s packet and checks its destination IP, if belongs to

Hildegard Von Bingen Reflection Essay
For my film review I decided to watch Vision: The Life of Hildegard von Bingen, (2009). The
story of a 12th century German nun, Hildegard von Bingen (Barbara Sukowa), that was best
known for her visions of God that were written down by Monk Volmar (Heino Ferch) and her
fellow nun Richardis von Stade (Hannah Herzsprung). The film starts off with Hildegard being
brought to the cloister as a young child because she speaks the language of God, although she
does not admit this until later in life when she finally confides in Monk Volmar whom appears to
be her closest friend and confidant. Much of this film appears to deal with her rise and fall from
grace with various people because she stood her ground on the legitimacy of her visions and
learnings. This leads to her becoming a polarizing figure in the Christian world at the time
especially to the women that join the cloister to follow her. But much of the drama and the
center of the plot deals with many of the Christian leaders not following their own teachings,
including her. After being brought to the cloister by her mother, a young Hildegard von Bingen
is introduced to the anchoress Jutta of Sponheim (Mariele Blendl) and is introduced to her
daughter that becomes Hildegard s sister. Several years later, after the cloister has gained a
much stronger female following, when Jutta of Sponheim dies, there is an election for a new
Magistra between Sister Hildegard and Sister Jutta (Lena Stolze), which Sister Hildegard wins.
After becoming Magistra, Hildegard begins having stronger visions from the Living Light
which she says is the voice of God. After her first intense vision she brings them up to her friend,
Monk Volmar, whom then persuades her to allow him to write some of them down. He believes
in these visions so much that he brings them to the leader of the cloister, Abbot of Disbodenber
(Alexander Held) whom dismisses them as false at first, but concedes that he does not have the
power to deem them as lies and if they are true, they could bring great fortune and gifts to the
cloister. The Abbot then proceeds to invite higher level priests to come verify the visions, but they
too believe them to be false but send it up to the Archbishop of Mainz, Bernard of

Words Are Not Enough
A very good morning to everyone present here today. I m Bryan Ong from the Methodist Boys
School of Kuala Lumpur. It is indeed a great honor for me to stand here today to deliver my talk.
Before I begin my talk, may I ask you people to do me a favor? It s pretty simple; just try to view
this situation as though as it s a picture. Tell me, what would you say from it? Exactly! You see a
rather decent looking boy standing here trying to overcome his fear and deliver a talk. And behind
me you see the theme of the talk today words are not enough. Ladies and gentlemen, through
merely a picture, such adequate amount of data can be collected already. Now, try to describe this
situation, without a picture, and only with words. I bet you re... Show more content on

Not everything in fact. As you or I may know, the world is not like the world we used to live in
anymore. Our Mother Earth is dying away. Despite all the talks and articles around the world
about our perishing Mother Earth, little has been done to save the environment. Our Mother
Earth can t speak. She can t put her pain in words. Hence, our Mother Earth expressed her rage
towards our irresponsible acts by bringing catastrophe, hence, the recent earthquake and tsunami
in Japan that claimed hundreds of lives. This is a strong message by Mother Earth saying that
she s dying already. And if we don t do anything about it, she ll die. And we ll lose our home. This
recent tragedy has reached practically everyone around the world. And the message is delivered
not by words, but by a horrendous cataclysm. I would very much love to continue to talk about this
but apparently this talk has a time limit. Therefore, like I said, words are not enough. Thank you.

The Different Stages Of Human Development
The different stages of human development can be vast in dimension. The chosen age group was

Early to middle childhood features such as physical, emotional, cognitive, and social aspects have
their growing and specific developments compared to other human developmental stages. Also,

(Avants et al., 2011). Parental nurturance and the involvement in a child s life can impact their
independence where different aspects of warmth and availability of parent care, expressive and
verbal responsivity, paternal connection, emotional environment, and encouragement of maturity
are important. Children are learning more complex tasks where they are attempting to understand

The Cleveland Cavaliers Essay
According to LeBron James, You can t be afraid to fail. It s the only way to succeed. You re not
going to succeed all the time, and I know that. . LeBron will lead the team to the eastern
conference then to the NBA Finals. The Cleveland Cavaliers will win the 2015 2016 NBA
Championship because we have the best player in the world, we will have all our players back
and they have a good bench to back up the starters.
The Cavaliers, with no doubt, have the best player in the world, LeBron James. He has worked
hard every day to get to the place he is at right now and it shows. He has won the league MVP
four out of five years. He has been selected to his 12th All Star game, which he will be starting
the 11th year in a row. Also, he has won two NBA championships, him being the Finals MVP for
both championships. Not only has he won two NBA championships, he has won two Olympic gold
medals for basketball. Finally, he is the youngest player to score 20,000 points. Even though he is

Homelessness Of The Ozarks And Its Effect On Mental Illness
Homelessness in the Ozarks and its Effect on Mental Illness in Older Adults
Landon Green
Missouri State University
Homelessness In the Ozarks: Then to NowThe issue my team chose to research and tackle was
homelessness in the Ozarks. Specifically, we wanted to look at the demographics of the issue and
then ultimately we wanted to look into the effects the issue of homelessness is having on another
serious issue, mental illness, and vice versa. The Merriam Webster Dictionary defines
homelessness as one having no home or permanent place of residence. It defines mental illness as
any of a broad range of medical conditions that are marked primarily by sufficient disorganization
of personality, mind, or emotions to impair normal psychological functioning and cause marked
distress or disability and that are typically associated with a disruption in normal thinking, feeling,
mood, behavior, interpersonal interactions, or daily functioning. Some of the examples of mental
illnesses given by Merriam Webster are major depression, schizophrenia, obsessive compulsive
disorder, or panic disorder. The main aspects of the issue that will be covered are the current status
of the issue, the causes, current organizations involved in finding solutions, and what more needs to
be done. Looking at the status of homelessness from the past to the present, we can see that there
has been a drastic increase in the percentage of homeless. In a 2013 Statewide Homelessness Study

Blues Boundaries And The Blues Angela Davis Analysis
Rebekah Scarborough

History of the Blues
Professor House
Did Angela Davis get it wrong?
As a consequence of slavery and segregation, Angela Y. Davis contends in Blues
Legacies and Black Feminism, her study of the recordings of Billie Holiday and the blues
vaudevillians Gertrude (Ma) Rainey and Bessie Smith, black social consciousness has been
overdetermined by race, with too little attention paid to sex and virtually none to class. Davis, a
professor of something called the history of consciousness at the University of California,
Santa Cruz, would have a hard time selling such a notion to this country s black poor, who are
understandably inclined to blame the legacy of white racism for their poverty. But she s right in
step with the more radical of her academic colleagues, even if her ingrained cultural nationalism
prevents her from joining them in dismissing race as an arbitrary social construct with no basis in
anthropology. Race, according to current academic thinking, is a smokescreen that has drawn
discussion away from the more crucial issue of class.
If this sounds suspiciously like Marxism, it is Marxism gone post modern: a tool for the
analysis of literary and other texts, not necessarily a call for the exploited masses to rise. One
of the side effects of this recent trend has been to restore the credibility of certain black
intellectuals and activists of the 1960 s and 70 s, whose Marxist ideals might otherwise make
them seem like relics not of their own day but of the 1930 s. Davis made the news in 1969, when
the Regents of the University of California attempted to bar her from teaching at U.C.L.A.
because she was a member of the Communist Party, and again a year later, when she briefly
became a fugitive after being accused of supplying the brother of George Jackson with the
firearms for his one man raid on a Marin County courthouse. (Jonathan Jackson was killed,
along with three others, in the ensuing shootout. Davis was later apprehended, tried and
acquitted.)
Davis s thesis in Blues Legacies and Black Feminism, in a nutshell, is that Ma Rainey
and Bessie Smith, among other flamboyant women blues singers

Essay on The Things They Carried by Tim O Brien
The Things They Carried, written by Tim O Brein, is a story told through the eyes of members of
a United States Army troop trudging their way through the Vietnamese country side and jungles
during the Vietnam War. Each man has a specific job and so they carry specific belongings that
they need to fulfill that job as well as a few mementos from home. These men also carry unseen
baggage that is all too real to these men, their families and responsibilities back home preying on
their minds, the horrors of war, and the stress of the importance of fulfilling their duties to keep
then men around them alive.
The soldiers carried the individual items necessary for individual jobs and sentimental mementoes
from home, such as Rat Kiley, the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These are the reasons that the men could not sleep at night. Not the foreign sounds of animals and
country they did not know, it was the memories that kept the men alert. By and large they carried
these things inside, maintaining a mask of composure (Belasco 1469). The physical aspects of the
things they carried, the men could get a respite by setting them down for a moment, but the mental
things could not be dropped so easily, in fact most men always carried this weight, thus making the
mental weight upon their shoulders more tedious to deal with. The biggest mental struggles the
men dealt with were those of the memories flashing across their minds of fellow comrades dying,
the emotional weight of men not knowing if the man they are standing next to may die that day,
memories from home and the war, both shameful and joyous, the turmoil of day to day life in an
alien land, and embarrassment. O Brien expands on this by saying, They carried the soldier s
greatest fear, which was a fear of blushing. Men killed, and died, because they were embarrassed
not to. It was what had brought them to the war in the first place, nothing positive, no dreams of
glory or honor, just to avoid the blush of dishonor (Belasco 1469). The stress of these things, were
wearisome to carry, but they had carry them to live to fight another day. The

The Great Chicago Fire was one of the significant devastation that happened in the eighteenth
century. Through this tragic event, hundreds of people died and thousands of buildings were
completely destroyed in the fire. Before, the city was flourishing as more people traveled and
decided to call Chicago their home. After the fire destroyed most of the surrounding area, people
began blaming one another for the deaths of all the people. As time passed, Chicagoslowly began to

the city boomed with the abundance of money and people. Moreover, because there was

Subaru Car Research Paper
Subaru cars are no ordinary cars they are high performance cars. Therefore, performance cars
need performance replacement parts to ensure that the performance of the car is maintained.
When any part or accessory of your Subaru car is worn out or damaged, always insist on
replacing it with a genuine Subaru part. Getting genuine Subaru parts is the best thing you can
do for your vehicle. No matter the destination, with high performance Subaru parts, you can
enjoy your every ride to the fullest. The genuine parts are designed to handle any kind of duress,
be it physical or climatic. Therefore, whenever any parts that need replacement, replace them with
high performance genuine parts and do not compromise the performance of your vehicle. Most
Subaru cars have a boxer engine, a flat laying engine, that delivers an impressive amount of
power. The flat laying engine layout also factors toward the better balance and fuel economy of
the Subaru vehicles. Now, you would not want to give up the exceptional power, balance and fuel
economy of your Subaru car with inferior Subaru parts...right? For that reason, it is always in your
best interest to go for genuine Subaru parts. Aftermarket Subaru parts are available on the market,

How Wars Always Have Disastrous Effects On Civilians
Wars always have disastrous effects on civilians, in particular on children who are growing up in
a world of violence and are surrounded by atrocities and deaths. It can be even more traumatic
when children find themselves taking an active part in conflicts. Indeed in numerous conflicts,
combatants aged under eighteen, and therefore considered as child soldiers , are involved.
Although international law expressly prohibit the recruitment and use of youths aged under
fifteen, about 300,000 child soldiers are currently taking part in hostilities, and many do not have
the legal age to do so. Some are enrolled by force, but many volunteer for various reasons. Some
claim that children should not have anything to do with political issues and wars and thus should
not be prosecuted, while others claim that all children are not purely victims and may be partly
responsible for their acts. This essay argues that because they are children, child soldiers cannot be
prosecuted along with adults, and should rather benefit of support programmes in order to enable
their reintegration into the civilian society. However this reintegration may takes years and cannot
be successful until it is sure that children are no longer a threat for the society or for themselves,
and it may require that children spend time in detention centers for minors until they are no longer
a danger. The first part will focus on the different situations that can lead children to become
soldiers. I will then explain

Feminism In Wonder Women
Wonder Women: The Untold Story of American Superheroines is a film about the history and
importance of the famous DC Comic character, Wonder Woman. A psychologist named William
Moulton created Wonder Woman in 1941. When she was first created, she was the ideal feminist
icon. She did not rely on a man and always saved herself. Wonder Womans creation was at a time
while the United States was at war. During World War II, women took their places in the working
industry while the men were off at were. Wonder Woman s character resembles the attitude
towards women and the need for them to work and be seen as equals during wartime. Her creation

Women are now portrayed as stabbing each other in the back and being overly sexualized
(Wonder Women). Portraying women as evil and overly sexualized sends out the wrong message
to viewers. It sends messages that women cannot be the heroes. If they are not villains then they
are often in need of rescue. The women seen on TV and comic books are wearing revealing outfits.
As the film points out, this leads to sexiness becoming the way of signaling empowerment . Young
girls deserve better than to think dressing provocatively is a way of showing empowerment.

Pharmacotherapy for Clients Dependent on a Substance Essay
Medications approved by the FDA for treatment of alcohol and opioid dependence, including
acamprosate, disulfiram, naltrexone, methadone, and buprenorphine, have not been widely studied
in the dually diagnosed population. Often, study participation criteria exclude individuals with co
occurring substance use disorders and mental illness, and it is only in recent years that research
specifically focused on this population has become more common. Pharmacotherapy has also been
underutilized in practice. A survey of 955 bipolar individuals found that while 8% met criteria for a
current alcohol use disorder and 5% met criteria for a current non alcohol substance use disorder,
only 0.4% received disulfiram, methadone, naltrexone, and/or... Show more content on

There is a dearth of research on the use of acamprosate in the collective dually diagnosed
population, attributable perhaps to its relatively recent approval in 2004. There is, however,
evidence supporting the use of disulfiram and naltrexone. In a landmark study, Croop et al.
(1997) found naltrexone to be safe among 865 clients. Although this study did not specifically
focus on dually diagnosed clients, such clients were common in both the treatment and placebo
groups, so the research is clinically relevant. A later review of 72 clients receiving naltrexone for
alcoholism showed good treatment retention (81.9% completed the 8 week study) and good
clinical response (82% reduced drinking by at least 75% and only 17% relapsed at 8 weeks)
(Maxwell Shinderman, 2000). In a later placebo controlled study of 254 outpatient clients with
diverse psychiatric disorders and co occurring alcohol dependence, Petrakis and colleagues (2005)
found that use of disulfiram or naltrexone was associated with a significant reduction in drinking
days per week, and an increase in consecutive days of abstinence, compared to placebo. Clients
were randomly assigned to receive (open label) disulfiram and (blinded) naltrexone, naltrexone only,
disulfiram only, or placebo only. In this multisite, placebo controlled study of VA clients, there

Ridley Scott s Use of Mise-en-Scene to Convey Atmosphere...
There was a dream that was Rome. You could only whisper it. Anything more than a whisper and it
would vanish, it was so fragile.
The film Gladiator was released in 2000. A thrilling action film, it was a huge success, scooping
five Oscars and earning over $427 million dollars. Sir Ridley Scott who directed the film already
had many great films to his name, such as Alien , Blade Runner and American Gangster , so it was
no surprise when this film became one of the highest earners of the year 2000. The mise en scene

There is a close up of his face, which allows the viewer to see every emotion, which adds an
essence of vulnerability to a character that is more often than not, perceived as the complete
opposite. It is also used to emphasise the fact that Maximus is the character the film will be
based around. Following the close up, there is a shot of a robin sitting on the branch of a tree,
after a short while it flies away, perhaps sensing danger. The shot is then back to Maximus, who
is smiling sadly, possibly at the thought of the robin being able to fly away from it all, when he
can t. The way that mise en scene has been used to depict a slight fear in the character of Maximus,
adds contrast to his personality, which in turn adds depth, leaving the audience feeling able to
connect to him. The music in this scene makes it almost haunting as it creates a calm yet uneasy
atmosphere. Maximus is wearing gold in this which, not only continues the theme of gold, but also
represents his authority. The combination of this strong, powerful figure being slightly fearful at
what lies ahead, adds to the uneasy atmosphere. The lighting in the sequence is also a lot darker

with the non diegetic sounds like the wind blowing and the distant sound of birds, help create a
really dramatic, prominent sequence which leads on

TASK 2 i.Name and describe the four main types of tissues in animal ii. Describe the two types
of Plant cell and their function FOUR MAIN TYPES OF TISSUES IN ANIMAL There are four
types of main tissues in human body 1.Epithelium Epithelium tissues are composed of layers of
the cells that are closely packed together which is specialised to form the covering or lining of
both external and internal surface of body such as surface of your skin and internal digestive
system. The main function of epithelium tissues are to provide protection like skin that protects
you from injury, secretion like glands such as enzymes, and to absorb materials like intestine such
as waste products etc. The two examples of Epithelium tissues are Squamous epithelium and
Glandular epithelium. 2.Connective tissue Connective tissues holds and binds everything together
which are found all around the body. This type of tissue is also called fibrous connective tissues
as they are consisting of a lot of fibres eg. Collagen and Elastin. The basic function of the
connective tissue is to support, bind or connect all other types of tissues together in the body.Blood,
cartilage, and bone are usually considered as connective tissue 3.Muscle tissue Muscle cells are the
contractive tissue of body that produce force and cause motion within internal organs. Muscle tissue
is separated into three different categories: visceral or smooth muscle that are located in the inner
linings of organs and skeletal

A Paradigm For Multiple Input Multiple Output ( Mimo )...
Abstract A paradigm for multiple input multiple output (MIMO) channel modeling demands
diversity technique to compensate the effects of fading and shadowing. In this paper, error
performance of MIMO system is analyzed with orthogonal space time block code (OSTBC) and
maximal ratio combining (MRC) techniques over Weibull gamma (WG) fading channel. WG
distribution forms a composite channel model which is used to determine the effects of multipath
as well as shadowing. Closed form expressions for symbol error rate (SER) are computed for
MIMO systems using OSTBC and MRC in this scenario. Consequently, the effects of fading
severity by varying shape parameters are also shown by simulation and analytical results.
Keywords Multiple input multiple output (MIMO), orthogonal space time block code (OSTBC),
maximal ratio combining (MRC), Weibull gamma (WG) fading, symbol error rate (SER).
Introduction In the present wireless systems, the demand of proliferation of bandwidth for high
data rate and reliable communication requirement is increasing. Multiple input multiple output
(MIMO) systems are investigated to achieve these requirements. Also, diversity techniques are
recommended to increase the reliability of system. Orthogonal space time block codes (OSTBCs)
are employed in MIMO systems to achieve the full transmit diversity while allowing a simple
maximum likelihood decoding algorithm. This algorithm is based on linear processing of received
signals [1 2]. MIMO system uses

Summary Of Disco Rice And Other Trash Talk
In the article Disco Rice, and Other Trash Talk written by Ian Urbina, the sanitation workers
developed their own slang. Many people who work as garbage men cannot understand one
persons language, or way of speaking. Using slang as a language is easier for all of the workers
to communicate as a group. In addition to making it easier to communicate there are also
several other reasons why New York workers use slang terms. First of all, the garbage men are
working in the hot summer. In paragraph four it says It makes disgusting items not so disgusting.
Using other words like mongo and Disco rice is looking at the trash in a different way. They would
no longer have to picture loads of debris. using different words can also be a distraction

correlation between pirates and natural disasters:

Can the scientific method be used to test the claim that disasters are caused by the declining
number of pirates? Be specific as to why or why not, and if so, how would this be done? (6 points)
This claim cannot be tested by the scientific method. It is making a claim that is anecdotal.
To design a scientific experiment you need to be able to have an independent variable, dependent
variable and a controlled variable. With their assumption the global warming would be the
dependent variable that is being changed by the number of pirates decreasing. The independent
variable would be what you are changing. We can t control the number of pirates in the world

FINANCIAL MARKETS AND INSTITUTIONS
A Strong Financial System Is Necessary for a Growing and Prosperous Economy
Financial managers and investors don t operate in a vacuum they make decisions within a large and
complex financial environment. This environment includes financial markets and institutions, tax
and regulatory policies, and the state of the economy. The environment both determines the
available financial alternatives and affects the outcomes of various decisions. Thus, it is crucial that
investors and financial managers have a good understanding of the environment in which they
operate. History shows that a strong financial system is a necessary ... Show more content on

To make good decisions, financial managers must understand the environment and markets within
which businesses operate. Therefore, in this chapter we describe the markets where capital is
raised, securities are traded, and stock prices are established, as well as the institutions that operate
in these markets. Because the overall objective of financial managers is to maximize shareholder
value, we also take a closer look at how the stock market operates, and we discuss the concept of
market efficiency.

For example, some insurance companies allowed brokers to keep premiums for as much as a year
before remitting them to the insurance companies. The brokers invested these premiums and
earned interest on them, and this gave them an incentive to steer business to these companies rather
than to insurance companies whose policies might be better for the brokers clients.

Ideological Bias Reflected in American Crime Statistics
As Nils Christie argued, crime is a property of the state (2004). As such, it can be defined by the
same systems of ideals which influence the state. Crime statistics, which refer to a category of
human acts that society view as deviant, can consequently be argued to be without objectivity
(Dorling and Simpson, 1999). The statistics they provide are thus arguably not exact. To a certain
extent one could infer they are reflections of society, of those who present the data and most
importantly of those who accumulate it. The facts themselves become a socially constructed
foundation for social knowledge, which inevitably become subjective. This essay aims to discuss
how ideological biases within the Police and to a certain extent the... Show more content on

These particular areas tend to be inner city, with a high population of ethnic minorities, poverty and
crime (Lynn and Elliot, 2000) . Thus not only does the sample and the data it acquires become
less representative of the population as a whole, it in turn over represents particular groups of
people, and the types of crimes committed; which in turn gives across bias ideologies of criminal
groups, criminal areas and the level of crime. As exemplified by Tony Blair who stated gun
crime was a problem within the black community (Wintour and Dodd, 2007), these crime statics
can give across an ideological bias of the relationship between a particular crime and a particular
group. Arguably, higher levels of police are distributed in these areas which in turn creates a
cyclical effect whereby ideological biases fuels higher levels of policing, which in turn increases
levels of offending in statistics, as described by Sharp and Budd (2005), which consequently fuels
the ideological biases as demonstrated by Tony Blair.
Ideological bias can also under represent particular groups, giving a bias towards their lack of
deviance. This was evident in Britain during the late 20th century where Black people were seen as
deviant and Asians were seen as law abiding victims. Their

What Is The Cosmological Argument
A logical argument for God s existence or nonexistence is the cosmological argument. William
Craig says in his book that there are three statements that give the cosmological argument form.
Craig concluded that whatever begins to exist has a cause. The Universe began to exist therefore
the Universe had a cause. What that cause was, is widely challenged. The argument against the
existence of God includes the Big BangTheory. The Big Bang Model is a broadly accepted theory
for the beginning and evolution of our universe. According to NASA, it claims that twelve to
fourteen billion years ago, the part of the universe that can be seen today was only a few
millimeters across. It has since expanded from this hot dense state into the vast and much cooler
cosmos that is inhabited. Remnants of this hot dense matter as the now very cold cosmic
microwave background radiationcan be seen which still pervades the universe and is visible to
microwave detectors as a uniform glow across the entire sky. Those who say that God does not
exist use this as their argument to explain how the universe was created. Those who support this
theory say that the universe resulted from a big bang and everything that is in existence came from
this phenomenon. In talking about the Big Bang Theory, Jeffrey Keen said, In general, science
accepts that both the structure of the universe and the laws of physics were created simultaneously
at the beginning of the Big Bang, and have since remained constant

This book also makes suggestions for parents that have children with cognitive difficulties. The

He states that there are five levels, starting with the most basic and finishing with the most
intricate ways of learning and behaving. The levels are as follows: perceiving (level one),
remembering (level two), creating (level three), organizing (level four), and thinking on a higher
plane (level five). At the basic level, Levine states that the child must first be able to understand
the relationships and the important characteristics of a spatial or sequential pattern. Once this is
accomplished they can store this information for later use (remembering), which will help the
child create output that is arranged spatially or sequentially (level three). Level four is where the
child is expected to be good at time management (sequential) and materials management (spatial)
(Levine, p.152). Finally the child is able to reason, solve problems, and form concepts using
their spatial and sequential ordering systems. In the first half of the chapter, Levine discusses
sequential ordering in terms of the five levels described above. He states that a child needs to be
able to perceive the order of the days of the week, the months of the year, and perhaps the steps in
solving a problem. If parents recognize a lack in this ability in their child, Levine suggests that they
should practice teaching their children rhymes and other practices that force the child to use their

Essay about The Threat of Anne Hutchinson
The Threat of Anne Hutchinson
In Puritan led Massachusetts Bay Colony during the days of Anne Hutchinson was an intriguing
place to have lived. It was designed ideally as a holy mission in the New World called the city
upon a hill, a mission to provide a prime example of how protestant lives should have subsisted of.
A key ingredient to the success of the Puritan community was the cohesion of the community as a
whole, which was created by a high level of conformity in the colony. Puritan leaders provided
leadership for all facets of life; socially, economically, religiously, and even politically. A certain
hierarchy was very apparent in the Massachusetts Bay Colony, in which ministers always seemed to
have gotten their way. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the trial against Anne Hutchinson, she was charged, in a vague manner, to be a danger to the
colony because of the spreading of her Antinomian opinions at her meetings. Throughout the entire
trial Anne was slowly being backed into a corner in which ideally she would have then broken down
and admitted to doing all the wrongs in which Governor Winthrop believed she was guilty of, but
she never really did. The evidence against her was so weak in nature, that it seemed that Winthrop,
along with all the other elders and deputies, really needed a confession to completely justify her
banishment. Though unsuccessful in their efforts, even when it was brought up by the Deputy
Governor that Anne went to a meeting of ministers and told them all that they preached the
covenant of works to their very faces, Anne stayed with the Fifth Amendment technique and denied
nothing, while admitting nothing. Where I believe she might have messed up is when she attested
to the probability of her saying this of the ministers in private. By saying that, she more than
admitted to being of the same mindset of the ostracized Antinomians. This in turn gave the hungry
judges/jury enough evidence for the banishment. It is my understanding that Anne s type of
mischief was not too uncommon for that time period in Massachusetts. Meetings were held all over
between Puritans discussing religious topics such as Biblical translations and weekly sermons

fundamentally to embellish the outsides of basilicas and different religious structures. The most
punctual Gothic models were stone figures of holy people and the Holy Family used to enhance the

Portal of Chartres Cathedral (c. 1145 55) were minimal transformed from their Romanesque

Security in the Office
What measures should office employees take to ensure office security?
Why is office security important?
Office security is important because security threats, in particular, theft and embezzlement, do take
place in small businesses.
What is embezzlement?
Embezzlement occurs when the company s property are misappropriated by the employee whom
the property is entrusted. In simple terms, this is the act of the employees stealing property from
their own company.
What warning signs of embezzlement should employees look out for?
An increase in overall sales returns could mean that the accounts receivable payments of the
company have been concealed.
If there are unusual bad debts within the company, this could mean employee fraud has taken
place in the company. In addition, if the cash or credit sales has declined or increased slightly from
previous period, this could mean that some of the company s sales are not recorded.
Bounced checks received by the companies could mean that funds are being taken out from the
business bank account without authority.
Shortages of inventory could mean that employee pilferage has taken place within the company.
A decline in profit and an increase in expenses incurred by the company can mean that cash is
withdrawn from the company s account illegitimately.
Slow collection of business accounts receivable can be used by employees to hide embezzlement.
Steps to preventing employee embezzlement:
In order to prevent dishonest acts from

Are Humans To Blame For Global Warming Research Paper
Humans are to blame for global warming, there is no question about it. Humans and human actions
are causing a rise in temperature worldwide. We have recorded a steady rise in temperature for the
last fifty years. This rise is caused by an estimated 95% of human actions.Humans are to blame for
global warming because of deforestation, population growth, and the use of non environmentally
safe products.
Deforestation is a process of cutting down too many trees and it largely affects the climate. The
Amazon rain forest is a perfect example of this. In the past 40 years a full 20% has been removed
from that single rainforest alone. When cutting down trees the process of photosynthesis can not
take place. Therefore large amounts of carbon dioxide are left in the air, and there is less oxygen.
These C02 bonds interfere with the C03 in the ozone. Global warming is greatly affected by
deforestation due to the increase in greenhouse gases it causes. Tens of Millions of acres are being
cut down each week. These acres are as large as Italy. When these trees have been burned carbon
dioxide enters the atmosphere. Trees are 50% carbon dioxide, so when deforestation takes place lots
of carbon dioxide is released. It accounts for 25% of carbon dioxide emissions. ... Show more

This is the result of creative destruction: new products and production methods replace or rather

The Factors And Roles Of The Stanford Prison Experiment
Not everything goes according to plan. At Stanford University, an experiment was conducted by a
psychology professor, infamously known as the Stanford prison experiment. The research was
based and held in a prison setting with 24 recruited individuals who were then appointed as either
inmates or guards, the operation was planned for two weeks as well as rules that were meant to be
followed. What would be the fundamental purpose of experimenting with this, why did the head
researcher want to conduct this experiment, how did the use affect the outcome? Why would
someone run an experiment like this? The purpose was to understand the development of norms
and the effects of roles, labels, and social expectations in a simulated prison environment
(Zimbardo, 1971). With the exercise, the researchers were able to investigate how realistic the 24
individuals fit into their roles. With the participants playing into their roles it would hopefully
demonstrate a specific analysis of the situation, as well as the difficulties and hardships between
guards and prisoners within United States Navy and the United States Marine Corps

The Obesity Epidemic in the United States
The United States of America is known for having a high obesity level. According to David
Frum from CNN, except for Mexicans, American citizens are more likely to become obese than
any other nationality. Some obese countries have enforced an extra high tax on fast foods and
other high calorie foods, and many people believe that the U.S. should adopt the fat tax as well.
According to Dictionary.com, the fat tax is a tax imposed on or proposed for high fat or
otherwise unhealthy foodstuffs . Although a tax on junk food could reduce obesity, the low
prices could protect low income families from going broke, and therefore a tax on junk food
would not be beneficial to America. One of the main groups that would be negatively affected
by a fat tax are the diabetics. Those who fight hypoglycemia occasionally need candy or soda to
raise their blood sugar levels. Why should diabetics have to pay more for something that could
potentially save their lives? They already have to pay extremely high costs for their insulin to
keep their glucose levels from reaching too high. At Diabetic Care Services and Pharmacy, a

wedding was held at the house of Eliza s uncle, Benjamin Prescott. Clercs method of teaching was
from French signs. His students, he taught, learned those signs for their studies. As the Hartford
students and teachers widely spread Clerc s teachings in his original and in their modified signs,
deaf communication acquired an identifiable form. Currently, about two thirds of today s ASL
signs have French origins. Examples of words that mean the same and have the same signs in
American and French are: wine = vin; hundred = cent; look for = chercher. Louis Laurent Marie

Income Inequality Research Paper
Economic inequality refers to how economic metrics are distributed among individuals in a group,
among groups in a population, or among countries. Economists generally think of three metrics of
economic disparity: wealth, income, and consumption.
Some studies have emphasized inequality as a growing social problem. Too much inequality can be
destructive, because income inequality and wealth concentration can hinder long term growth.
Early statistical studies comparing inequality to economic growth had been inconclusive, There are
various numerical indices for measuring economic inequality. A widely used one is the Gini
coefficient, but there are also many other methods.

Video Games Stereotypes
Video Games
Video games first started being introduced into the world around the 1970 s and since then have
evolved and made an impact on the real life and online world. Throughout the years of video games
making more and more of an impact in the entertainment industry, the question to weather they are a
form of media still remains. Media is defined as the main means of mass communication (television,
radio, and newspapers) regarded collectively. And depending where you re coming from media can
include the video gaming industry, film industry, tv industry and of course the news and marketing
industries.

As video games is such a big medium, they are able to convey messages to the players in a more
low key way, gender representations and stereotyping are both big things that the video gaming
industry can effectively play a big part in. Stereotyping refers to one group s generalised and
widely accepted perception about the personal attributes of members of another group (Ashmore
Boca, 1981; Dates Barlow, 1990). Within most traditional media, gender and racial stereotypes
are the most pervasive two. Increased distorted representation of women and minorities can have
a negative effect on the way that the viewer sees that particular group. The way that video games
are able to influence large masses is another reason to why it is able to be classified as a
legitimate form of media. The definition of media as stated above being, the main means of mass
communication (television, radio, and newspapers) regarded collectively. . Female characters have
changed and evolved throughout the time of video games, the first ever playable female character
in a mainstream game was created in 1986 and then another well known female character was
created by 1996, and that one being the protagonist of Tomb Raider, Lara Croft. By 2014 it is now
able to be chosen by the player in a collective of certain games to weather they play as male or
female. It isn t uncommon to see a female characters in a video game to be over sexualised, much
like mass media in todays age. Female characters are also commonly portrayed as a damsel in
distress , and the male protagonist is usually the one to save her. Mass medias such as the news
and newspapers have this in common with video games, making it out that females usually need
some sort of male hero in their lives. There is a big push for more women to be involved in the

Invertebrates And Star Fish Comparison Essay
In the Discovery Education video about sea invertebrates, there were many similarities and
differences that make each of the invertebrates unique. Each of the invertebrates had different
forms of achieving nutrients and sourcing their food. In addition to finding different sources of
food, they also have different growth and reproductive rates and styles and how they respond to
their environment also depends on their environment and their physical abilities they have as a
species. One of the most essential keys to maintaining life is sourcing ways to obtain nutrients.
Like many other marine invertebrates, both the Krill and Diablo Rojo Squid come to eat at
night. The Krill prey on plankton near the top of the water, but as a result for leaving the security
of the deep sea they themselves become prey to other animals like fish. El Diablo Rojo Squid,
also swimming near the shore use the fish, lured in by the Krill, consume the fish as their main
source of food. In addition to Krill, Jellyfish also consume plankton. Larger Jellyfish, like the egg

While some invertebrates unique traits are commonly known, like how a starfish can regenerate
an arm in about a week, other abilities like regenerating shells are equally as interesting. Spider
Crabs have the ability to grow a new shell underneath their old shell before moving to warm
water where they are able to crack their old shell open and back out with a new one. Marine
animals that live in the frigid waters of Antarctica like the Red Starfish, Sea Urchins, and
Nemertine worms move are very slow; they have a slow metabolism, slow growth rate, and move
very slow across the sea floor. One explanation of their slow movements is their need to conserve
energy. Carcasses, their main food source, are not abundant, so they need to conserve energy they

the play continues Blanche develops a relationship with Stanley s friend Mitch. The addition of

about to start doing so. The abrupt change brought on by the death of her young husband Allan
Grey attached to the polka tune playing, led to a drinking problem with Blanche. Whenever a
change comes about to Blanche s situation she often is seen drinking within the scene prior or

they have a fight wherein Mitch says: You ought to lay off his liquor. He says you been lapping

has also caught up to her, causing additional problems with her relationship with Mitch. The

Benefits Of Peer Mentoring
Juvenile mentoring programs have shown to be extremely successful for both mentor and mentee.
Mentoring programs builds connections and within those connections there is guidance, support,
and knowledge being shared on both ends. Mentoring at risk youth is essentially to improve
academic achievement, improve interpersonal skills and for personal development. Choosing
between cross age mentoring and peer mentoring has to be intentional and should be based off of
what the youth needs.
Peer mentoring is defined as: two youths of different ages that reflects a greater degree of
hierarchical power imbalance than is typical of a friendship and in which the goal is for the older
youth to promote one or more aspects of the younger youth s development (The Handbook of Youth
Mentoring by David Dubois). Because of the small age difference, mentees feel comfortable and
compelled to share any thoughts, ideas, and ask more questions. Being close in age allows the
mentor to be able to understand and relate to what their mentee is expressing. From this, the mentor
can present solutions or advice.
Cross age mentoring is essentially adult to youth mentoring. A lot of the at risk youth do not have
solid adult figures in their lives; having an older mentor can fill this void. Cross age tutoring is
argued to be more effective than other techniques because adults are seen as role models since they
have more life experience. Mentoring has emerged as a promising approach for enriching

The Pearl Harbor Attack
December 7, 1941 the Pearl Harbor attack was a big event in history that led to the US joining

Subsidence In New Orleans Essay
New Orleans was built on a marsh. The city was inundated by water during Hurricane Katrina in
2005, causing a tremendous loss of human lives and costing the economy billions of dollars in
damage. Since the storm, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has built a system of lift stations and
levees to control the flow of water around the city. This has created what is best described as a
bathtub surrounded by water. To further elaborate, New Orleans is the bath tub, while Lake
Pontchartrain and the MississippiRiver surround the city. Over the years keeping water from
entering the city has become more difficult because the city continues to sink lower below sea
level. Subsidence of marshy soils lowers the ground elevation in and around the City of New
Orleans. The gradual caving in or sinking of land is known as subsidence.... Show more content on

121 122). Primary subsidence takes place after the water has been drained form the marsh, the
soil compresses under its own weight due to the loss the force of buoyancy. During primary
subsidence, the volume of the organic component decreases, but the mass of the organics
remains the same. Secondary subsidence is caused by a combination of oxidation and shrinkage.
The mass and volume of the organics decreases during secondary subsidence (Ewing and
Vepraskas, 2006, p. 121 122). Being able to differentiate between the two different kinds of
subsidence in marshes allows for more precise methods of measurement by scientists. Primary
subsidence happens before secondary subsidence, and secondary subsidence typically only occurs
in the upper portion of the soil stratum, the part exposed to air. Primary subsidence reduces the
volume of the soil, while the mass of the sample stays the same. Meanwhile secondary subsidence
reduces the volume of the soil and reduces the mass of the soil.

Bone Supplements
This is as true of bone supplements as it is of any other, and particularly true of supplements
containing both calcium and glucosamine. Glucosamine is manufactured in small amounts during
the normal biochemistry of your body, but decreases as you age. Glucosamine is a chemical that is
used by your body for the manufacture of cartilage that protects the bones in your joint by providing
a cushion between them. Without cartilage the boneends of your joints would rapidly wear, a
condition commonly known as osteoarthritis.
The main structural components of the cartilage in your body are substances known as

Omega 6 is good for you, but only in moderation relative to your Omega 3 intake. Omega 9 fatty
acids can reduce the chances of you developing atherosclerosis, with a consequent reduction on
the possibility of heart disease and strokes. It is a strong antioxidant and can help to reduce your
cholesterol level and blood pressure, and together with Omega 3 and 6 reduce the risk of breast
cancer.
When you consider all of these benefits of the Omega fatty acids, and also of calcium and
Glucosamine supplements in association with Vitamin D and magnesium, any supplement
containing all of these would of extreme benefit, not only to those suffering from arthritis and other
bone conditions, but also of high cholesterol levels and high blood pressure.
Such a supplement in liquid form would render it even more potent due the much faster and more
efficient absorption by the body. The benefits of liquid calcium supplements would then be
augmented with substances that not only improve the absorption and beneficial effects of the
calcium, but also provide the additional benefits of antioxidant and anti inflammatory properties
that help to allay the painful effects of bone and joint

  • 2. Ipsec And Ssl Protocols ( Vpn ) Abstract: As the development of computers, smart phones and tablets, more and more equipment are connected to the Internet. Virtual Private Network, which establishes private network over public network has made work and life much easier for people. IPSec and SSL/TLS protocols, which provide security services, are widely used for VPN. In this paper, I ll learn the details of IPSecand TLS/SSL protocols and provide an analysis and comparison of them. I.Introduction Virtual Private Network (VPN) comes to my sight by chance due to China s great firewall blocked my access to Gmail when I stayed in China last summer. To visit the blocked websites, one of solutions is using VPN technology. VPN is referred to set up a private network across a public network and usually can be classified by three types: [1] Remote Access Type, which can establish a connection between a client outside and a company s internal resources, Extranet Type, which connects different resources in different networks, and Intranet Type, which creates a connection between different resources within one network. The working theory of VPN can be briefly explained by a simple example including several steps: Node A in Network I want to communicate to Node B in Network II via public network. 1. Since A wants to communicate with B, A will generate and send a packet whose destination IP is B s IP address in Network II. 2. The gateway of Network I gets A s packet and checks its destination IP, if belongs to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 4. Hildegard Von Bingen Reflection Essay For my film review I decided to watch Vision: The Life of Hildegard von Bingen, (2009). The story of a 12th century German nun, Hildegard von Bingen (Barbara Sukowa), that was best known for her visions of God that were written down by Monk Volmar (Heino Ferch) and her fellow nun Richardis von Stade (Hannah Herzsprung). The film starts off with Hildegard being brought to the cloister as a young child because she speaks the language of God, although she does not admit this until later in life when she finally confides in Monk Volmar whom appears to be her closest friend and confidant. Much of this film appears to deal with her rise and fall from grace with various people because she stood her ground on the legitimacy of her visions and learnings. This leads to her becoming a polarizing figure in the Christian world at the time especially to the women that join the cloister to follow her. But much of the drama and the center of the plot deals with many of the Christian leaders not following their own teachings, including her. After being brought to the cloister by her mother, a young Hildegard von Bingen is introduced to the anchoress Jutta of Sponheim (Mariele Blendl) and is introduced to her daughter that becomes Hildegard s sister. Several years later, after the cloister has gained a much stronger female following, when Jutta of Sponheim dies, there is an election for a new Magistra between Sister Hildegard and Sister Jutta (Lena Stolze), which Sister Hildegard wins. After becoming Magistra, Hildegard begins having stronger visions from the Living Light which she says is the voice of God. After her first intense vision she brings them up to her friend, Monk Volmar, whom then persuades her to allow him to write some of them down. He believes in these visions so much that he brings them to the leader of the cloister, Abbot of Disbodenber (Alexander Held) whom dismisses them as false at first, but concedes that he does not have the power to deem them as lies and if they are true, they could bring great fortune and gifts to the cloister. The Abbot then proceeds to invite higher level priests to come verify the visions, but they too believe them to be false but send it up to the Archbishop of Mainz, Bernard of ... • 6. Words Are Not Enough A very good morning to everyone present here today. I m Bryan Ong from the Methodist Boys School of Kuala Lumpur. It is indeed a great honor for me to stand here today to deliver my talk. Before I begin my talk, may I ask you people to do me a favor? It s pretty simple; just try to view this situation as though as it s a picture. Tell me, what would you say from it? Exactly! You see a rather decent looking boy standing here trying to overcome his fear and deliver a talk. And behind me you see the theme of the talk today words are not enough. Ladies and gentlemen, through merely a picture, such adequate amount of data can be collected already. Now, try to describe this situation, without a picture, and only with words. I bet you re... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Not everything in fact. As you or I may know, the world is not like the world we used to live in anymore. Our Mother Earth is dying away. Despite all the talks and articles around the world about our perishing Mother Earth, little has been done to save the environment. Our Mother Earth can t speak. She can t put her pain in words. Hence, our Mother Earth expressed her rage towards our irresponsible acts by bringing catastrophe, hence, the recent earthquake and tsunami in Japan that claimed hundreds of lives. This is a strong message by Mother Earth saying that she s dying already. And if we don t do anything about it, she ll die. And we ll lose our home. This recent tragedy has reached practically everyone around the world. And the message is delivered not by words, but by a horrendous cataclysm. I would very much love to continue to talk about this but apparently this talk has a time limit. Therefore, like I said, words are not enough. Thank you. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The emotional climate also affects the child s feelings such as the parent s temperaments towards child during discipline creating socio emotional outcomes based on parental nurturance (Avants et al., 2011). Parental nurturance and the involvement in a child s life can impact their independence where different aspects of warmth and availability of parent care, expressive and verbal responsivity, paternal connection, emotional environment, and encouragement of maturity are important. Children are learning more complex tasks where they are attempting to understand and transition to self sufficiency. The Cleveland Cavaliers will win the 2015 2016 NBA Championship because we have the best player in the world, we will have all our players back and they have a good bench to back up the starters. The Cavaliers, with no doubt, have the best player in the world, LeBron James. He has worked hard every day to get to the place he is at right now and it shows. He has won the league MVP four out of five years. He has been selected to his 12th All Star game, which he will be starting the 11th year in a row. Homelessness Of The Ozarks And Its Effect On Mental Illness Homelessness in the Ozarks and its Effect on Mental Illness in Older Adults Landon Green Missouri State University Homelessness In the Ozarks: Then to NowThe issue my team chose to research and tackle was homelessness in the Ozarks. Specifically, we wanted to look at the demographics of the issue and then ultimately we wanted to look into the effects the issue of homelessness is having on another serious issue, mental illness, and vice versa. The Merriam Webster Dictionary defines homelessness as one having no home or permanent place of residence. It defines mental illness as any of a broad range of medical conditions that are marked primarily by sufficient disorganization of personality, mind, or emotions to impair normal psychological functioning and cause marked distress or disability and that are typically associated with a disruption in normal thinking, feeling, mood, behavior, interpersonal interactions, or daily functioning. Some of the examples of mental illnesses given by Merriam Webster are major depression, schizophrenia, obsessive compulsive disorder, or panic disorder. The main aspects of the issue that will be covered are the current status of the issue, the causes, current organizations involved in finding solutions, and what more needs to be done. Looking at the status of homelessness from the past to the present, we can see that there has been a drastic increase in the percentage of homeless. In a 2013 Statewide Homelessness Study ... • 11. Blues Boundaries And The Blues Angela Davis Analysis Rebekah Scarborough 15 December 2017 History of the Blues Professor House Did Angela Davis get it wrong? As a consequence of slavery and segregation, Angela Y. Davis contends in Blues Legacies and Black Feminism, her study of the recordings of Billie Holiday and the blues vaudevillians Gertrude (Ma) Rainey and Bessie Smith, black social consciousness has been overdetermined by race, with too little attention paid to sex and virtually none to class. Davis, a professor of something called the history of consciousness at the University of California, Santa Cruz, would have a hard time selling such a notion to this country s black poor, who are understandably inclined to blame the legacy of white racism for their poverty. But she s right in step with the more radical of her academic colleagues, even if her ingrained cultural nationalism prevents her from joining them in dismissing race as an arbitrary social construct with no basis in anthropology. Race, according to current academic thinking, is a smokescreen that has drawn discussion away from the more crucial issue of class. If this sounds suspiciously like Marxism, it is Marxism gone post modern: a tool for the analysis of literary and other texts, not necessarily a call for the exploited masses to rise. One of the side effects of this recent trend has been to restore the credibility of certain black intellectuals and activists of the 1960 s and 70 s, whose Marxist ideals might otherwise make them seem like relics not of their own day but of the 1930 s. Davis made the news in 1969, when the Regents of the University of California attempted to bar her from teaching at U.C.L.A.

  • 13. Essay on The Things They Carried by Tim O Brien The Things They Carried, written by Tim O Brein, is a story told through the eyes of members of a United States Army troop trudging their way through the Vietnamese country side and jungles during the Vietnam War. Each man has a specific job and so they carry specific belongings that they need to fulfill that job as well as a few mementos from home. These men also carry unseen baggage that is all too real to these men, their families and responsibilities back home preying on their minds, the horrors of war, and the stress of the importance of fulfilling their duties to keep then men around them alive. The soldiers carried the individual items necessary for individual jobs and sentimental mementoes from home, such as Rat Kiley, the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These are the reasons that the men could not sleep at night. Not the foreign sounds of animals and country they did not know, it was the memories that kept the men alert. By and large they carried these things inside, maintaining a mask of composure (Belasco 1469). The physical aspects of the things they carried, the men could get a respite by setting them down for a moment, but the mental things could not be dropped so easily, in fact most men always carried this weight, thus making the mental weight upon their shoulders more tedious to deal with. The biggest mental struggles the men dealt with were those of the memories flashing across their minds of fellow comrades dying, the emotional weight of men not knowing if the man they are standing next to may die that day, memories from home and the war, both shameful and joyous, the turmoil of day to day life in an alien land, and embarrassment. O Brien expands on this by saying, They carried the soldier s greatest fear, which was a fear of blushing. Men killed, and died, because they were embarrassed not to. It was what had brought them to the war in the first place, nothing positive, no dreams of glory or honor, just to avoid the blush of dishonor (Belasco 1469). The stress of these things, were wearisome to carry, but they had carry them to live to fight another day. The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

How Wars Always Have Disastrous Effects On Civilians Wars always have disastrous effects on civilians, in particular on children who are growing up in a world of violence and are surrounded by atrocities and deaths. It can be even more traumatic when children find themselves taking an active part in conflicts. Indeed in numerous conflicts, combatants aged under eighteen, and therefore considered as child soldiers , are involved. Although international law expressly prohibit the recruitment and use of youths aged under fifteen, about 300,000 child soldiers are currently taking part in hostilities, and many do not have the legal age to do so. Some are enrolled by force, but many volunteer for various reasons. Some claim that children should not have anything to do with political issues and wars and thus should not be prosecuted, while others claim that all children are not purely victims and may be partly responsible for their acts. This essay argues that because they are children, child soldiers cannot be prosecuted along with adults, and should rather benefit of support programmes in order to enable their reintegration into the civilian society. However this reintegration may takes years and cannot be successful until it is sure that children are no longer a threat for the society or for themselves, and it may require that children spend time in detention centers for minors until they are no longer a danger. There is a dearth of research on the use of acamprosate in the collective dually diagnosed population, attributable perhaps to its relatively recent approval in 2004. There is, however, evidence supporting the use of disulfiram and naltrexone. In a landmark study, Croop et al. (1997) found naltrexone to be safe among 865 clients. Although this study did not specifically focus on dually diagnosed clients, such clients were common in both the treatment and placebo groups, so the research is clinically relevant. A later review of 72 clients receiving naltrexone for alcoholism showed good treatment retention (81.9% completed the 8 week study) and good clinical response (82% reduced drinking by at least 75% and only 17% relapsed at 8 weeks) (Maxwell Shinderman, 2000). In a later placebo controlled study of 254 outpatient clients with diverse psychiatric disorders and co occurring alcohol dependence, Petrakis and colleagues (2005) found that use of disulfiram or naltrexone was associated with a significant reduction in drinking days per week, and an increase in consecutive days of abstinence, compared to placebo. Sir Ridley Scott who directed the film already had many great films to his name, such as Alien , Blade Runner and American Gangster , so it was no surprise when this film became one of the highest earners of the year 2000. Following the close up, there is a shot of a robin sitting on the branch of a tree, after a short while it flies away, perhaps sensing danger. The shot is then back to Maximus, who is smiling sadly, possibly at the thought of the robin being able to fly away from it all, when he can t. The way that mise en scene has been used to depict a slight fear in the character of Maximus, adds contrast to his personality, which in turn adds depth, leaving the audience feeling able to connect to him. The music in this scene makes it almost haunting as it creates a calm yet uneasy atmosphere. • 23. A Paradigm For Multiple Input Multiple Output ( Mimo )... Abstract A paradigm for multiple input multiple output (MIMO) channel modeling demands diversity technique to compensate the effects of fading and shadowing. In this paper, error performance of MIMO system is analyzed with orthogonal space time block code (OSTBC) and maximal ratio combining (MRC) techniques over Weibull gamma (WG) fading channel. WG distribution forms a composite channel model which is used to determine the effects of multipath as well as shadowing. Closed form expressions for symbol error rate (SER) are computed for MIMO systems using OSTBC and MRC in this scenario. Consequently, the effects of fading severity by varying shape parameters are also shown by simulation and analytical results. Keywords Multiple input multiple output (MIMO), orthogonal space time block code (OSTBC), maximal ratio combining (MRC), Weibull gamma (WG) fading, symbol error rate (SER). Introduction In the present wireless systems, the demand of proliferation of bandwidth for high data rate and reliable communication requirement is increasing. Multiple input multiple output (MIMO) systems are investigated to achieve these requirements. Also, diversity techniques are recommended to increase the reliability of system. Orthogonal space time block codes (OSTBCs) are employed in MIMO systems to achieve the full transmit diversity while allowing a simple maximum likelihood decoding algorithm. As such, it can be defined by the same systems of ideals which influence the state. Crime statistics, which refer to a category of human acts that society view as deviant, can consequently be argued to be without objectivity (Dorling and Simpson, 1999). The statistics they provide are thus arguably not exact. To a certain extent one could infer they are reflections of society, of those who present the data and most importantly of those who accumulate it. The facts themselves become a socially constructed foundation for social knowledge, which inevitably become subjective. Thus not only does the sample and the data it acquires become less representative of the population as a whole, it in turn over represents particular groups of people, and the types of crimes committed; which in turn gives across bias ideologies of criminal groups, criminal areas and the level of crime. As exemplified by Tony Blair who stated gun crime was a problem within the black community (Wintour and Dodd, 2007), these crime statics can give across an ideological bias of the relationship between a particular crime and a particular group. Arguably, higher levels of police are distributed in these areas which in turn creates a cyclical effect whereby ideological biases fuels higher levels of policing, which in turn increases levels of offending in statistics, as described by Sharp and Budd (2005), which consequently fuels the ideological biases as demonstrated by Tony Blair. Ideological bias can also under represent particular groups, giving a bias towards their lack of deviance. • 29. What Is The Cosmological Argument A logical argument for God s existence or nonexistence is the cosmological argument. William Craig says in his book that there are three statements that give the cosmological argument form. Craig concluded that whatever begins to exist has a cause. The Universe began to exist therefore the Universe had a cause. What that cause was, is widely challenged. The argument against the existence of God includes the Big BangTheory. The Big Bang Model is a broadly accepted theory for the beginning and evolution of our universe. According to NASA, it claims that twelve to fourteen billion years ago, the part of the universe that can be seen today was only a few millimeters across. It has since expanded from this hot dense state into the vast and much cooler cosmos that is inhabited. Remnants of this hot dense matter as the now very cold cosmic microwave background radiationcan be seen which still pervades the universe and is visible to microwave detectors as a uniform glow across the entire sky. Those who say that God does not exist use this as their argument to explain how the universe was created. Those who support this theory say that the universe resulted from a big bang and everything that is in existence came from this phenomenon. In talking about the Big Bang Theory, Jeffrey Keen said, In general, science accepts that both the structure of the universe and the laws of physics were created simultaneously at the beginning of the Big Bang, and have since remained constant ... The levels are as follows: perceiving (level one), remembering (level two), creating (level three), organizing (level four), and thinking on a higher plane (level five). At the basic level, Levine states that the child must first be able to understand the relationships and the important characteristics of a spatial or sequential pattern. Once this is accomplished they can store this information for later use (remembering), which will help the child create output that is arranged spatially or sequentially (level three). Level four is where the child is expected to be good at time management (sequential) and materials management (spatial) (Levine, p.152). Finally the child is able to reason, solve problems, and form concepts using their spatial and sequential ordering systems. In the first half of the chapter, Levine discusses sequential ordering in terms of the five levels described above. He states that a child needs to be able to perceive the order of the days of the week, the months of the year, and perhaps the steps in solving a problem. If parents recognize a lack in this ability in their child, Levine suggests that they should practice teaching their children rhymes and other practices that force the child to use their sequential ... Humans and human actions are causing a rise in temperature worldwide. We have recorded a steady rise in temperature for the last fifty years. This rise is caused by an estimated 95% of human actions.Humans are to blame for global warming because of deforestation, population growth, and the use of non environmentally safe products. Deforestation is a process of cutting down too many trees and it largely affects the climate. The Amazon rain forest is a perfect example of this. In the past 40 years a full 20% has been removed from that single rainforest alone. When cutting down trees the process of photosynthesis can not take place. Therefore large amounts of carbon dioxide are left in the air, and there is less oxygen. These C02 bonds interfere with the C03 in the ozone. Global warming is greatly affected by deforestation due to the increase in greenhouse gases it causes. Tens of Millions of acres are being cut down each week. These acres are as large as Italy. However, outdated businesses start to collapse, suffer losses, and even close down when rival firms introduce cutting edge innovations. This is the result of creative destruction: new products and production methods replace or rather destroy obsolete goods (McConnell et al 37). At Stanford University, an experiment was conducted by a psychology professor, infamously known as the Stanford prison experiment. The research was based and held in a prison setting with 24 recruited individuals who were then appointed as either inmates or guards, the operation was planned for two weeks as well as rules that were meant to be followed. What would be the fundamental purpose of experimenting with this, why did the head researcher want to conduct this experiment, how did the use affect the outcome? Why would someone run an experiment like this? The purpose was to understand the development of norms and the effects of roles, labels, and social expectations in a simulated prison environment (Zimbardo, 1971). With the exercise, the researchers were able to investigate how realistic the 24 individuals fit into their roles. With the participants playing into their roles it would hopefully demonstrate a specific analysis of the situation, as well as the difficulties and hardships between guards and prisoners within United States Navy and the United States Marine Corps (Zimbardo,1971). With the funding of the experiment coming from the U.S. Office of Naval Research, the participants were paid $15 per day. • 41. The Obesity Epidemic in the United States The United States of America is known for having a high obesity level. According to David Frum from CNN, except for Mexicans, American citizens are more likely to become obese than any other nationality. Some obese countries have enforced an extra high tax on fast foods and other high calorie foods, and many people believe that the U.S. should adopt the fat tax as well. According to Dictionary.com, the fat tax is a tax imposed on or proposed for high fat or otherwise unhealthy foodstuffs . Although a tax on junk food could reduce obesity, the low prices could protect low income families from going broke, and therefore a tax on junk food would not be beneficial to America. One of the main groups that would be negatively affected by a fat tax are the diabetics. Those who fight hypoglycemia occasionally need candy or soda to raise their blood sugar levels. Why should diabetics have to pay more for something that could potentially save their lives? They already have to pay extremely high costs for their insulin to keep their glucose levels from reaching too high. At Diabetic Care Services and Pharmacy, a box of five Humalog pen Kwikpens cost $339.29, which is extremely expensive, especially if the buyer does not have health insurance. Each of the invertebrates had different forms of achieving nutrients and sourcing their food. In addition to finding different sources of food, they also have different growth and reproductive rates and styles and how they respond to their environment also depends on their environment and their physical abilities they have as a species. Mentoring programs builds connections and within those connections there is guidance, support, and knowledge being shared on both ends. Mentoring at risk youth is essentially to improve academic achievement, improve interpersonal skills and for personal development. Choosing between cross age mentoring and peer mentoring has to be intentional and should be based off of what the youth needs. Peer mentoring is defined as: two youths of different ages that reflects a greater degree of hierarchical power imbalance than is typical of a friendship and in which the goal is for the older youth to promote one or more aspects of the younger youth s development (The Handbook of Youth Mentoring by David Dubois). Because of the small age difference, mentees feel comfortable and compelled to share any thoughts, ideas, and ask more questions. Being close in age allows the mentor to be able to understand and relate to what their mentee is expressing. From this, the mentor can present solutions or advice. Cross age mentoring is essentially adult to youth mentoring. A lot of the at risk youth do not have solid adult figures in their lives; having an older mentor can fill this void. Cross age tutoring is argued to be more effective than other techniques because adults are seen as role models since they have more life experience.
